Por ella soy Eva #94 11/29/12: Living in a Powder Keg and Giving Off Sparks.

Eva brings Eugenia home and is scandalized to see Claudia living there.  She scolds Modesto for having a child from his "other family" there and Modesto, who has an intense dislike for Eva, tells her to leave his house.  Eugenia tells him it is her house, too.  Claudia joins in on the fracas and Eva takes her down a peg.  Eva leaves, encountering a drunk outside while waiting for a taxi.  He calls her 'mamacita,' and she hits him repeatedly with her very large purse until he withdraws.  Feeling her oats, Eva finishes his drink, hurls her purse into the taxi, and takes off.  The driver looks scared.

In the hospital Silvia, Helena, and Plutarco are being solicitous of Mad Dad who, charming to the end, tells them he doesn't need anyone.  Silvia has had enough and says, fine, take a friggin' taxi.  Helena tells him some men never change and he is one of them.

Angelica is meeting Santiago's parents for the first time in their home.  Angelica is her exuberant self and is happy to finally meet them, but Santi is nervous and asks her to sit down.  The parents give each other sidelong glances, obviously disapproving (you can see it in their faces, they're thinking "naca").  Angelica is offered caviar and makes a sour face upon tasting it.  When she goes to the bathroom, Santi asks his parents for a loan.  They are all over him.  This girl is nothing like Paty [you mean petty and spiteful?], she's vulgar, and she obviously doesn't come from a good family.  As long as Santi is with her he need not bother to come around again.  In fact, he's disinherited and he no longer has parents [no wonder they like Paty].  Poor Santi looks crushed.

Adriano calls Eva and she finally answers her phone.  He is beside himself because she disappeared on him and she tells him to calm down.  He needs to see her but she is going to visit Helena.  He falls off the couch reaching for a drink.  [he's thinking, "every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you're never coming round."]

Daniel tells Jennifer he can't wait to be alone with her, and after she goes into the house he says to himself that his patience is ending.  Marcela counsels Jennifer to take it step-by-step, and Jennifer agrees.

Pluto shows up at Helena's apartment and Silvia invites him to stay for dinner.  Then Eva shows up and Pluto scowls while she entertains Helena with her humor.  Silvia drags Eva off to the kitchen.

Back home, Angelica complains about how serious Santi's parents are and that they never smile.  They serve weird food- Santi says it was escargot- and why can't they serve pizza or chicken like normal people.  Santi confesses that class is important to them [i.e., they're snobs] and gently breaks it to Angelica that they don't approve of her.  He again asks her to stop modeling and get a normal job, but Angelica wants to be famous like Miss Universe.  She seduces him out of continuing the disagreement.

Now Adriano shows up at Helena's because he couldn't wait to see Eva.  It's getting crowded in there.  Adri is concerned and asks Helena where she's been the past couple of days.  Helena tells of going to Playa Majahua and begins to tell them about someone who showed up there.  Eva looks very worried.

At home, Bastardo is with his lawyer who is telling him he needs a woman.  How is he going to manage with one hand when he wasn't doing so well with two?  Bastardo doesn't need anyone.  Besides Silvia will soon return with her tail between her legs [keep it up, Chuckles, Viewerville will kill you before it lets that happen].

At Helena's crowded apartment Eva screams out.  She has a call and is worried that it's her sick aunt who she supposedly has been visiting in Sinoloa.  Eva looks to the sky and cries out to Christ not to take her.  Pluto says he didn't hear the phone ring, but Eva spits out that it's on vibrator mode, putz, as she stares him down.  Eva leaves and immediately phones Helena on JC's phone.  Helena looks uncomfortable and tells everyone it's Lucia on the phone.  She goes into the other room to take the call and JC begs her not to give him away.  At the very least give him more time to clear his name.

Renato and Lucia are at GI.  He says he wants to go to bed and Lucia jumps on that, all excited.  She'll give him a little "massage."  But no, he means he's tired and needs to rest.  She's confused.  No massage?

Eva comes back and tells everyone it was a false alarm.  Pluto rolls his eyes.  Helena comes back and is asked who was it that appeared at Playa Majahua?  She slowly says it was the most marvelous man in her life- Pluto.  Eva shows a look of relief and pain.  Now Lucia shows up at the apartment [everyone is here! where are the Evalettes?] and gets asked how did you get here so fast?  Helena pleads with her eyes to Lucia to go along with her story.  Eva distracts everyone by asking Lucia how it's going with Renato.  Lucia is her usual loopy self in her response [when really what she should be saying is, "I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark"].  Eva further distracts them with an announcement.  Adriano tells her that her wish is his command.  Eva has thought about it and likes Pluto's idea of a double wedding [Julie says double yuck].  Adriano and Helena agree to the idea- it will be in three months.  Lucia wants to make it a TRIPLE wedding with her and Renato, but everyone stares her down into silence.

Modesto is telling Eugenia he doesn't approve of Eva and he forbids her to see her.  Eugenia snaps back that nobody forbids her anything!  Again he tells her that her acting career is in the past.  He is worried about her, but she tells him not to worry about her- worry about Claudia.  He tells her he's going to Pueblo tomorrow.

JC tells Mimi about the double wedding in three months and she thinks he's gone loco.  He says it'll give him time for Helena and Pluto's wedding interruptus.  He calls Helena and sings to her on the phone; she has a mixed reaction.  He tells her Pluto is responsible for framing him, but Helena doesn't believe it.  She hangs up on him.  JC complains to Mimi that every time they get a lead- the CD, Samantha- it disappears on them.  Mimi suggests that maybe Helena can help them get the combination to Pluto's safe.  JC tells her "now more than ever, por ella soy Eva."

Silvia is telling Helena that she is worried about Mad Dad.  Helena says that she and Pluto will look in on him.  Silvia suggests that she accompany them when they do [noooooo!], but Helena tells her that it's not a good idea.

At Grupo Imperio the next day Helena is wondering, "What if Juan is telling the truth?"  Pluto shows up and Viewerville encourages Helena to tell him, "Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time." Pluto gets summoned to Adriano's office, where Adri tells him that someone indeed is robbing the agency.  He is calling a meeting of everyone involved.

What a hoot, Ithabill. It almost gave me a total eclipse of my computer as I nearly spilled my morning coffee all over the keyboard. Love your style.

Eugenia is really getting some starch in her spine (as my grandma used to say.) Modesto so doesn't like confrontation and if Eugenia continues to take charge of her ow life she'll have him right where she needs him. He'll back down because straight talk is not his way -- he's into manipulation.

The secret phone calls were interesting. I liked how JC begged Helena not to turn him in -- just as she was about to but he did it in a way that Helena never suspected Eva. As for the second phone call how could Helena stand up to hism when he sang to her like that?

So the audit has turned up Rebecca's shenanigans? I wonder whose head(s) will roll.

Thanks again for starting my day off with a total eclipse of sadness, Ithabill.

Bill, what a great recap. Bad Dad will never change. I really hope Silvia never goes back to that putz. Ya know I wonder if Bad Dad was a lot like Pluti, when he was younger, and wooed Silvia like Pluti is doing Helena right now and then became totally dominant after he married Silvia.

Eva is my favorite character. She is so over the top and the laughing with the hand in front of her mouth is very funny. Loved what she did to the guy that whistled at her and that taxi driver did look scared.

If it is Rebe that engineered this new fraud, it must be really easy to "cook the books" so to speak at G.I. You would think that Adri would have something in place after the "supposed" fraud of JC. Some type of oversight.

Poor Santi. His parents are way snobby. Angie was too funny sticking her finger in the caviar, lol. And that dress she was wearing wasn't her normal attire. She looked positively frumpy, lol. Now what will Santi do to get out of all that debt? I wonder if Santi's parents know the debt Paty Bebe put him in? They probably think it is all Angie's fault. And they did bring up if Angie and Santi's marriage was legal, seeing they got married in Las Vegas.

I really liked your reference to Total Eclipse of the Heart, I haven't heard that song in a long time :)

Thanks, Ithabill! great recap, as always.

Lots of funny bits and sad bits last night. I loved the part where Adri asked for a whiskey and had to settle for a tamarindo (the way he said it was priceless). And it was very sad watching Helena's face as she lied to her mother about the phone call. And poor clueless Santi.

From the breakfast scene where Marcela praises Fern as an example to their kids (ick), I'm guessing Fern is about to take a fall. I want to see him anvil-ed but maybe not with such a big anvil.

Thank you, Ithabill, for the recap and calling Eduardo "Chuckles" in your comments. I loved when Eva finished off the drunk's drink before getting into the taxi. It was good to see Helena come to her senses and not reveal JC's existence. I can't wait to see the results of the audit tonight!

Ithabill - Thanks a bunch. Great title.

Adriano gazes at Eva with such adoration. I hope he never ever finds out Eva's a man.

So glad Helena is in "the game" using her brain again.

Thank you for the title, Bill. Is it from a song?

What do we think will happen with Angie? Obviously Santi doesn't belong with her. But she's not evil like Rebecca, so by TN justice she won't be kicked to the curb. Will she turn to the dark side and then encounter an anvil with her name on it? Or will she see the light and die a heroic death, freeing Santi to find a good woman? Or none of the above?

Thanks, Bill. This was a great recap and a real life line for me. I had to attend an event and missed the entire episode. I know I can watch it later, but I need the news from "Evaville."

Mil in NC...I was really laughing at Adri having to settle for the tamarindo when he really needed a whiskey. I guess "el apartamento Moreno" doesn't keep the bar stashed with anything stronger than soda pop. Except for Barbara Greco, I'm not expecting a Lucero-character to offer Adri six different brands of whiskey from her wet bar. But she IS due to play a bad girl again.

Why was Adri so interested in Helena's stay at the beach? Was that his excuse to get close to Eva as soon as he found out that Eva was at Helena's apt. Or is he genuinely interested in Helena's well being because of her value to the Playa M. Project? Although Adri is becoming a better man by the good influence of Eva, I still believe that Adri is far more comfortable being lied to by a man than being told the truth by a woman!

Thank you, Bill! Yes! Yes indeed, I did say double-yuck.

Nice use of song lyrics. I nearly wore a hole through that record, back in the day.

Paula - I've been wondering about Angie, too. She's petty, ignorant, immature and selfish, but she lacks the ambition for real evil. Furthermore, she doesn't need to die to free up Santi for a proper church marriage, because as far as I know, the Catholic church couldn't care less if he gets a divorce just so long as his previous wedding was only a civil one and not a church wedding. So they can split up, he can marry Lucia, and Lucia can find someone who finds her less embarrassing. (Maybe Onesimo would like her.)

Anon 5:29, I am beyond ready to see Lucero play a Bad Girl again. She's very good as a nice girl, but she is so much more fun when she's evil.

So... there's a Big Meeting tonight. I love Big Meeting episodes!

Agreed, Julie, per the church, Santi can be divorced. But per the rules of TNs, if two people get divorced, doesn't one of them have to be evil? Early on, didn't Toni threaten Pluto with divorce? That's fine, Pluto's evil. And Sylvia could divorce Ed. But I think, per the TN rules, Marcela cannot divorce Fer. Fer is rotten, but he's not evil.

I could be mistaken; I'm willing to be convinced.

Hmm. Another thought. Santi is broke and DEEPLY in debt, and his parents have disinherited him. Angie is awfully shallow. If they get evicted and have to move into a shack, and it finally gets into her bubble-brain that her sugardaddy is sugar-free, might she divorce him as soon as a better offer comes along? I'd like to think that she has more affection for him than that.

I don't think you have to be evil to get divorced in a TN, though the main evidence I have for this (based on only 30 seconds' thought, admittedly) was Mr. James and Acacia in Destilando Amor. Neither of them was evil, but Acacia was mentally ill and the whole thing was really, really sad.

Actually, I think the scenario you describe (Angie divorcing when the magic plastic card stops working at the cash register) is quite realistic. I don't know if that qualifies as "evil," but it would be honest and it would let Santi off the hook without him having to act like a louse.

I wonder if we've seen the last of Paty. I don't expect her to end up with Santi, but I still feel like she's a loose end. Even if she doesn't get a proper coda, perhaps she'll get a punchline (like riding off into the sunset with Renato, or something crazy like that).

Ooops! When I said:

"...Lucia can find someone who finds her less embarrassing."

What I meant was "ANGELICA can find someone who finds her less embarrassing." (And I still think that guy could be Onesimo. If she does leave Santi, then she deserves Onesimo.)
