Que pobres tan ricos #17: The cannon explosion or the little flame, its a matter of degrees..... and MA and Lupe continue to communicate and look the same way
Isela/Mini in white robes, as usual Isela is asking for money … they celebrate the upcoming wedding, like winning the lottery without even buying a ticket.
At attic, Frida and Leo are cleaning up/picking up, while Jose is bugging them about the place all a mess. Leo and then Frida defend themselves… then she makes fun of Jose because he said he rehearses there with his band, about him being a loser etc etc. He claims to have his fan club. Jose turns it on Leo being a rich bum. Leo takes his exit rather than receiving more lectures. Jose tells Frida his band/group has a gig tonight. They begin whistling back and forth.
MA and Lupe, her doing numbers, we owe 307,228.60. MA is very amused staring at her and smiling. She asks if it sounds good. He says yeah, well, maybe… well, more or less. He admits he was not really listening. She claims he is doing same he did back then at the restaurant. MA says did not mean to offend, she agrees, his head is at the wedding of Mini and A-hole. MA cannot admit he was thinking about that. She repeats the number. He has to talk it over with Saul. Lupe says go ahead. Here is your mensa. I will even loan you my notebook. She swears they will pay MA peso sobre peso. She wants MA to start figuring out where he will take his family. She does not want to risk trouble with the police. He swears as soon as he fixes his problems they will leave their house… forever. (he tries to get up by sliding the chair back, but he almost stumbles to floor with chair and all, but is very respectful ‘excuse me’ once he finally manages to stand up.
At some chinese restaurant, MA and Saul talk. MA is obviously affected by the wedding stuff. They order ‘whatever is in this picture’… Saul and MA talk about the magazine article. MA repeats the text from the article. Although Saul doubts it, MA tells him Lupe told him they have been seing each other for many years. Saul wants to bring the subject back to the corporate finances.
Carme and Lupe at kitchen… Carme teases Lupe about MA. ‘lo que se ve no se oculta’ (whatever can be seen with the naked eye is hard to hide)
Emiliano and Grandma Mati… . He wants to know if she will eat a ‘dry’ or ‘wet’ soup… loL! She would rather talk about how was his day at school. Then she will have a ‘hard’ soup.
Back to kitchen, with Lupe and Carmela. She does not want Emi to get too close to Grandma Mati. She is trustworthy, but what would happen if she found out Emi is a RP? Carme figures out that is why Lupe wants all the RP out of there asap. When Lupe goes to Mati, she recognizes her as someone who worked at the RP offices at some point. Lupe excuses herself, won’t go into that subject.
Saul and MA… Saul asks MA to calm down that anger held inside. MA asks then what do I do? Look for A-hole to break his face? Do I argue with Mini? Saul says distract yourself with something else. MA asks what? With Lupe? We just talked about the money debt. Saul admits Lupe has ‘lo suyo’ (her virtues). Saul would not be surprised if MA conquered Lupe and it would avoid him problems with the Menchacas. MA says not the moment for jokes, too many problems at hand. Saul offers him a ride but he wants to walk.
Wedding day! Bridesmaids in deep purple. A-hole, not wasting time, is flirting with one of the bridesmaids, telling her he will call her after the honeymoon. Mini walks in, waving her hand as if she won the Miss Universe crown. As she walks and salutes, we hear A-hole, saying he is marrying the prettiest girl, and she is the luckiest gal… Minerrrrrva!! Suertudota!! (Lucky gal MINERRRRRVA!!) Then he rolls his eyes at her ‘gimmics’ walking in, since she is taking Very LLOOOOOONNNNGG!!! AS’s club friends are also gossiping about Mini and A-hole. They are trashing MA and saying love won after all! Two other ladies bring up the point Mini is NO innocent virgin. Chabelita reacts as if it is news to her.
A-hole and Mini keep on posing… Isela with hands together counting her blessings. Then when wedding is over she SHOUTS ‘welcome to the family, dear son in law!!!’ then takes a SQQQUUEEEEZZZZEEE on his cheeks!!
Back to Menchacas… Carmela is irritated at AS and Leo making their way in… Frida comes in, she is looking for MA. Lupe tells her he went to see his friend the lawyer. She calls Saul on cell phone. Saul tells her he left MA a good while ago. Lupe excuses herself saying she forgot to buy some things.
Back at church, MA is obviously disguised across the street looking into the couple. Suddenly Min spots him. ‘no puede ser!’ But she won’t tell A-hole what is up. She tells A-hole she just realized her school classmates did not make it to the wedding. He brushes it off… they keep posing/kissing. MA is suffering. A-hole can’t wait for their honeymoon. Isela pulls Mini away, asking her to fake it…
MA talks to himself, what did I do coming here? I don’t matter… (he argues with people walking by about his talking to himself) Isela tries to convince Mini that MA is in Europe. Mini is sure it was MA. Isela questions if MA would take the risk to come to Mex to see her get married. Yeah you’re right he would not risk it. But I was sure I saw him! Isela keeps brushing her fears off… Smile, even if it is tough.
At disco, Jose is telling his friend he got inspired by Frida for a song… His friend can predict Jose will end up dating ‘la prima’. Yeah she is pretty, not quite my style, thin legs, a bit thin… Friend wants to meet her.
Lupe runs into MA out in the sidewalk. She questions where he was. They are both a bit cold. He tells her he was with Saul. And she notices he is angry/miffed. They argue back and forth, why was Lupe out alone? To buy some bread. MA will walk Lupe to get the bread.
Jose and friends play in front of other teenagers. They don’t sound too bad at all. She feels pretty, she loves to call the attention. Where do you think you are? You want to impose your law/rules. Everyone calls you la jipiris-nais! La jipiris-nais! The crowd does not like it, they get bombarded with paper balls. Friend wants to leave. They are trying to pick up their equipment under the rain of stuff.
Wrapping up the wedding… Mini and Isela are saying goodbye to the guests… Mini asks what to say to the gossip questions… Isela says let them talk and say whatever… the point is we are now the ‘Senoritas Ruiz Palacios!’
Lupe reminds MA he needs to figure out what to tell Don Chuy when he finds out MA is hiding from police. She won’t admit she believes him innocent, but you need to hurry up and fix the issue. He repeats he doesn’t want to cause her any trouble. Lupe asks him if he went to spy on Mini and A-hole. He asks her how did she know. She had a hunch. Yeah, I confess I was hurt, not sure if it was for love or for ego/pride from her betrayal. She says it will pass. How about some croissants for consolation. (the funny thing is she calls them ‘cuernitos’ which is NOT the word MA wants to hear now. She apologizes) They share a lovely smile.
Back to A-hole and Mini… will take you wherever you want later… Cairo, Bahamas… Isela keeps putting Mini on platter for A-hole, repeats she ‘reserved’ herself for this moment. He will know how to value her. Lets go already, before people hold us back. (seems A-hole wanted to go unnoticed, but Isela announces out loud they are leaving)
Jose keeps telling his friend their luck will change soon. Tries to cheer friend, one of these days he will come up with a hit song and you will see. Friend is trying but still is not sold on it yet.
Mini and A-hole in bed… (GAG!!) next thing we know A-hole is doing his victory scream… she has a shocked face ‘already??!’ (I guess sleeping with A-hole was not quite unforgettable in Mini’s mind, more like wham bam thank you ma’am!).
Lupe is getting in bed, can’t sleep… meanwhile MA is laying out the plastic over himself, sleeping on the newspapers… … Leo turns and uts his foot in MA’s face… MA blows his cap, and yells at Leo totally out of proportion with what had happened. MA can’t sleep either, remembers when Lupe saw him naked. Smiles. She is also smiling in bed, remembering when he saved her from falling piano. He remembers earlier their conversation at table. She remembers when she offered hi m the croissant and he put the sad face. He giggles a bit, then tries to lay down to sleep again. But is fully awake, sighing.
A-hole keeps elevating himself as the best thing that happened in Mini’s life… comparing himself to cannons and fire. Pum Pum Cataplum!!! She says she only saw a little flame, not a huge fire. She thought it would take him longer. He keeps saying he is the ultimate experience. She says it was more like a fast food. He tells her she is insatiable. He can repeat the dose, taking 2 to 3 minutes this time. He will take a shower first, though. She is not a happy camper. Calls mama… she wants to die… Isela guesses A-hole figured out she was not a virgin. She will sue the doctor. Mini says not that. MA was a bull in bed, this guy doesn’t even compare ‘un sopirito que ni despeina’ (a little breeze that doesn’t even lift my hair as compared to a hurricane (MA)) . Isela keeps saying what matters is the size of his wallet. Mini protests., money can’t buy what my body needs! Isela says don’t mess it up. She was an expert at ‘faking it’, no one caught up to it. Mini claims this has been the biggest mistake of her life. We hear A-hole singing ‘La Donna inmobile!!’ Mini is really disgusted.
Next morning… Piragua!!! Out in street.
MA is fixing coffee in kitchen, Lupe comes out. Lupe just arrived from taking Emi to swim lessons at the public pool nearby. He claims he did not make any mess. She admits he is right. He thanks her for calming him down last night, she thanks him for walking with her to get the bread. She offers him a ‘concha’ which is seashell shaped bread. He says sure, not ‘cuernos’ but will accept a ‘concha’. They keep smirking and smiling at each other.
Back to the honeymooners… we hear tango music… he wants to do another ‘quickie’ before they head to airport. She claims she gets nervous if they are late for the flight. He givesin. But when we arrive we will lock ourselves so you can keep enjoying me. Too bad you can’t compare me to others because you would realize I am the best that could happen to you. The sex guru!... (she sighs… not uttering any word)
At Menchacas, there is a waiting line for the bathroom. AS is in bathroom brushing DaVinci’s hair. Both Frida and Leo and Jose and Perla are waiting. She finaly comes out. She announces to them that they better get up really early, THIS will be MY scheduled time. Perla notices she was using her hairbrush on DaVinci and starts rattling at her. AS does not think it was a big deal. Frida rants at AS. It was wrong. Perla says the hairbrush is the only thing she had left from her saintly mother.
Down at kitchen, MA and Lupe are eating bread with coffee. She tries to give him advice to take it easy about A-hole. MA thanks her for worrying. Suddenly they hear the scandal upstairs and run up there. Perla tells what happened. Leo defends DaVinci, he has won thousands of contests. Lupe tries to calm everyone. MA tells his mother it was wrong. Don CHuy also comes out, they all sound louder than the cops on Saturday. What is the ‘merequetengue’ about? Grandma Mati rants at AS, she will tell her son to divorce her. Don Chuy rants at Perla, AS did not know it was hers. Perla protests, Jose backs her up. AS says she will only apologize to our Dear Father, only when it is utterly necessary. Don CHuy puts his hands on face giving up. MA repeats that AS has to take a look at what she did, it was wrong. Don Chuy says it was no big deal. Lupe rants at him saying we all have to start respecting each other and other people’s things. The scandal continues. Lupe yells ‘YA!!!’ MA tries to stop the congressional discussion,asks his family to go up to attic, apologizes to Perla in his mother’s name and promises her he will try to pay/replace her hairbrush, as soon as there is money to do it. Jose and Leo want to continue the rant, but MA and Grandma finally get the RPs out of there. Perla turns to Don CHuy, disappointed he defended that woman and not your family... Don Chuy asks why so much ‘farfalla’ for an old messed up hairbrush. Perla replies with tears in her eyes ‘because it was my mother’s!!’

I was laughing so hard when Ahole went on that rant Pum Pum CataPlum, it was hilarious! The look on Mini's face was priceless! She now realizes what a mistake she made. I wonder how long she can keep faking it. Ahole is a Legend In His Own Mind isn't he?
I can't believe MA actually went to the wedding. I guess he just had to see for himself, but Lupe was so kind to him. I think she is changing her mind about him, slowly but surely. I think Carm is right about Lupe and MA.
JT's band I think, had trouble with their sound system and that's why they sounded off. One of the speakers had massive reverb. Hopefully they fix that cause the song actually wasn't bad.
Why doesn't Don Chuy or MA make a schedule for the bathroom? This would solve a lot of problems in the future. Oh, and Da Vinci was naked tonight. He had no "outfit" on.
I noticed Leo actually had pj's and Frida did too. Everyone in fact but MA. Poor guy has been sleeping in the same suit for what a week now? He ought to get Saul to get some things for him. I think Decie mentioned that yesterday. All of them need to be dressing down. MA sticks out like a sore thumb with that suit he is always wearing.

Thanks for your recap Marta. ITA w/Mads, Mini's expressions were hilarious. I don't remember seeing this actress in a comedy before but I am really enjoying her here. Mini and Alejo are perfect for one another as they will soon be cheating on one another quickly.

AS really pithed me off last night and so did Don Chuy. That final scene with the hairbrush and Perla Ivette's tears really bothered me. I hated that everyone took the girl's feelings so lightly. I don't want scale 10 Karmageddon for AS, but I feel like she needs a comeuppance....and soon!

Great job, Marta. I laughed so hard during the walk down the aisle picture posing, and the dud (for Mini) of a wedding night. But if Alejo is all that Lupe has experienced so far, then she has a LOT to look forward to when she and MA eventually get to that stage. :)

Sara- Agreed about the brush. But I do think Don Chuy finally got it at the very end when she pointed out it was her mama's brush. AS still didn't express any regret even after she learned that. It was a good scene though because so far Perla has been shown as being vain and a bit shallow. It was nice to finally get some depth to her, and it was nice to see Tizoc being so supportive of her.
Yes, Vivi...I did like the scene for those reasons. I don't want Perla to become a "baddie." I want the RPs and Menchaaaacas to all learn from the experience. It seems to me Abuelo and Mati were not so class conscious that the looked down on people like the Menchaaaacas and I think we've all decided MA gets his "make it on you own" mentality from Abuelo.
I'm just ready for some of the learning and working together to begin. This is taking a bit too long for me. I'm also wondering how long MA will be a fugitive and how long it will take to prove his innocence. I can't imagine this going on much longer, but this is doing well in Mexico and I fear it will get dragged out. Or maybe I just don't understand the pacing of the comedies?

Jipi he pronounces hee-pee so i am guessing he thinks she is a bohemian pretty girl and he just likes to make fun of her and her situation that way. as in hee-pee nice girl. that is my take. anyone else with a different idea?
everyone knows what 'cuerno' and 'cuernudo' means, right? so funny she grabbed precisely croissants which over there are known as butter 'cuernos' for their shape. poor MA, his facial expression was priceless!!
Marta- Yes on the hippie part. But in Mexican slang, nice (yes the English word) means something fancy, fine or expensive. So he's calling her a rich hippie girl in the song.

Priceless wedding from the strut down the aisle to the flying groom in the bedroom. Apparently Ahole is Quick draw MaGraw. . Obviously Min has traded down and Lupe will be trading up in that department.

Considering how finicky she is about Da Vinci I'm actually surprised she would pick up any old brush in the Menchaca house and use it on him. It was also so odd to see him naked. LOL

I did have a lot of trouble with the dialog last night, especially among the teens, maybe because I was tired. I did get that the song was saying "hippie is nice" but they did sound really terrible. They need to learn how to set up and test their equipment properly...
I liked MA stumbling with the chair. I don't usually like this sort of thing and few actors are very good at it, but this was well done. It reminded me of John Ritter.
Wow... who knew Ahole was Speedy Gonzales? He's small, quick, and somewhat crazed. I wonder if Vilma knows this about him. I also wonder if someday, Mini and Lupe will compare notes on MA vs. Ahole.

I know it's just a running gag, but even if he's bathing each day, MA's one outfit must be really ripe by now! He could at least borrow some sleeping clothes from his brother or Don Chuy.

Julie-I think I only noticed because the day they were actually going through the dresses I kept thinking the AS's friends were all rather tall and slim and she was shorter and less svelte. Ah well. I'm sure the rich have seamstresses and tailors on call.

Well... Chinese food restaurant menus are in English here too, but when there are pictures, people often use the pictures to order rather than figure out what the thing in the picture is called. (Unless the picture is right next to the name of the item... but sometimes it's not.)
I only mention it because I ordered that way recently... and it wasn't even a Chinese place. There was a photo of a good-lookin' sandwich, and I wasn't sure which one it was on the list, so I said "I'll have that thing, please."

I believe AS convinced him NOT to call Macarena so she would not find out they are in financial distress... that way he would still have Macarena as a prospect later. If Macarena found out where they are and how they are living now she would not give him the time of day. that is their thinking.

It has only been a couple of days actually since the great crash and I agree that Macarena the Contessa probably is blue blood rich and cash poor. A lot of European nobility lives on titles and not much more so it will be interesting to see what happens with Leo and his "novia" if the truth comes out.

What a great episode. The wedding and wedding night were hilarious. I so enjoyed Minerva as Doris in CI. She was so funny then and became one of the few bright spots in that TN and she seems even better in this. She is a real talent.
It seems that every episode has it's mouth watering scenes. Last night it was the bakery that I could almost smell as well as the Chinese restaurant. The produce market is another place I can almost smell and of course there has been the food in the restaurant as well as those street vendors. This show makes me hungry almost every night.

And what a disappointment for Mini on the wedding night! Ahole so self-satisfied and so clueless. Mini so unsatisfied and wishing for her "tiger" instead. I think Ingrid M. is more nuanced with this role compared to the GovDau in CI and even funnier.
I liked the snob girl song and thought it had possibilities. I wonder if Leo will ever join in the band? I can see Frida singing the song and not taking offense at it.

Heh. I will FF through a "music as filler" storyline, myself, but I am curious as to how Leo will fit in with the Menchacas and this seems like the obvious choice.
I can't believe that a guy who plays the piano with only one finger can actually help the band, but maybe he knows something about the practical side of managing or promoting a band. (And setting up their equipment.) Seriously, those kids need help.

I'm not on the Ingrid bandwagon... Yet. I did think she was funny last week when AlejoP mentioned the baby and when he kissed her she had this shocked face mid-kiss. It cracked me up.
