De Que Te Quiero, Te Quiero #130/131- Mon 7/14

De que no hay pruebas, no hay pruebas

Brigitte is relieved to hear from Alonso that Alberto visited Rodrigo, but things didn't seem to "get very far" between them.  She wants him to call Al's parents, but Alonso doesn't want to worry them if he doesn't need to.  Brigitte decides she doesn't want to wait alone and calls Carmen, but Carmen is busy waiting for Natalia to come home.  "Natalia, Natalia, Natalia!" whines Brigitte yet again.  Hey, there you are, Brat…wondered where you'd gotten to!  Carmen says Natalia's had a rough day, what with finding out who her "real" parents are.  Brigitte and Lupita are both surprised to hear this.

Lupita goes to tell Paolo and drags him out to the living room so they can interrogate Carmen.

Carmen tells Brigitte who Natalia's parents are.  Brigitte says "Why's she upset, then?  This is like winning the lottery!"  Carmen gets tired of Brat's attitude, so Brat gives her some more, saying of course she's having a worse day that Nat.  Lupita wonders how Tad is Nat's father if he didn't, um, have anything to do with Carmen.  Carmen gives them the deets.  Paolo figures Tad and Irene must be thrilled to have found her.

Padre Juancho finishes giving her the story and apologizes on behalf of…pretty much everybody who knew…for not being able to find the right time to tell her.  PJ suggests she be thankful for having 3 awesome parents and just treat Irene with the same affection she always has.

Carmen keeps telling Paolo and Lupita about the great Telling Nat debacle.  Irene shows up and  Paolo and Lupita welcome Irene to the family.  PJ calls Carmen and tells her Nat listened to his explanations and seemed calmer.

Brigitte is even more agitated, now that she knows Nat is "a Cacares" and has everything she wanted.  "They should have been my parents, not hers!  I hate her!"  Heh, heh, heh…yeah, Brat, let it alllll out!

Morales shows up at work, apparently still able to walk.  El leaves him in charge of the office…and then asks who the lucky lady is…and then decides he's not that interested.  Morales calls Kimmy and says he's stuck at the office until Monday.  She doesn't want him to tell El…and starts making plans to make his forced stay at the office more pleasant.

Abdul gets back to the apartment and tries to pretend he's angry with Mally, but he cracks pretty quickly and tells her about his day.  He's going to wait and see how things go with Big Abdul, but at least they've made their peace.  An excited hug morphs into some quality smoochies.

The cops find Alberto and his car.  Everything's burned, so they don't know who he is yet.

Mally's already ready to say "This won't work!" because of her past, but Abdul says he'd be an idiot to care about that.  He wants to wipe the slate clean and just start from now.

Tiburcio isn't doing well and Hilda blames it on Rod for letting him sit out in the sun.  She tells Lala about Rod sending her for suntan lotion, leaving Tiburcio out, and then yelling at her for telling Alonso that Alberto came by for a while.

Rod is searching for news about Alberto and finally sees that they're pulling up the car.  He congratulates himself on a well-carried-out plan…and then he's visited by the hand of the ghost of Alberto the Incinerated.  Not gonna lie…I miss Live Al, but I do enjoy that Dead Al is going to stick around and torment Rod!  When Rod tries to turn and look at Dead Al, Dead Al's gone.  Rod makes sure to tell him that he's not going to drive Rod nuts…but when he looks again, Dead Al, looking pretty dapper for a dead guy, is staring at him.

Kimmy sneaks in to El's office.  She brought Chinese food.

Angela goes over to Mara's, where it looks like there's a LOT more room in the apartment now that she's packed up most of the tchotchkes.  Angela tells her that Abdul is living Jaiba-free now.  She wants Mara to come with her to visit him, but Mara is waiting for some of her mom's friends to come pick up the tchotchkes.

Nat goes over to Tad's to ask why he left Irene when she was pregnant.  He keeps it simple, saying he didn't know she was pregnant when he left.  Nat wants more.  Tad tells her about getting the scholarship due to Vicente's string-pulling.

Lupita wants to call Nat and tell her to come home already, but Carmen tells her to wait.  Instead of Nat, Abdul shows up and asks Carmen to forgive him.  He gets hugs from Carmen, Paolo, and Lupita.  Even Irene is happy for them all and Lupita hurries to include Irene by telling Abdul that she's Natalia's mom.  Abdul is about to give Irene hell for abandoning Nat, but she tells him the story.  Carmen explains that they're waiting for Nat to come home.  Abdul laughs about all these extra parents showing up…"We're only missing Brigitte's now!"

Tad shows Natalia the last letter he sent to Irene from Paris.  It was returned, like all the others, by Vicente.  "My Dear Irene, This is the last letter I'll write you.  The fact that I've never received any response from you can only mean that you've forgotten about me.  I don't blame you.  I understand.  You couldn't handle the distance separating us and you've gotten on with your life.  I, here, far away, have never stopped thinking about you, and I have you engraved on my skin, as if you were here with me, holding me, and telling me you love me.  But what else can I do besides resign myself to being forgotten?  My worst enemy has been the distance that ended your love.  I don't want to say goodbye, but I can't take your indifference anymore.  I'll go away from you loving you with my whole being.  Be happy, Irene…Irene of my heart."  Tad says if he'd heard from her just once, things would have been different.  And especially if he'd known Nat was on the way.  He realizes now, with the perspective of age, that he shouldn't have let go of his love for anything…not even the scholarship.  One day, he ran into Irene again and found out they had a daughter…and then thought she was dead.  When Tiburcio said she was alive, they started searching.  "I only wanted to find you and hug you, and call you 'daughter.'  Do you think I can?"  Nat says she's the daughter of the people she loves best.  She's willing to let Tad call her "daughter," but only if he lets her donate her marrow.  Score one for Nat!  Come on, Taddy…you can't say "no" to your little girl's first request ever!  He tries to, though.  Nat gives him the "I can't find you just to lose you!" and then follows it up by calling him "papa."  Nice work, Nat!  Lupita would be proud.

The cops have identified the car as Alberto's and the person who examined the body doesn't think it was an accident.

Angela is pissed that Mally is at Abdul's apartment.  She explains they live together and Angela fumes.

A guy in a white coat tells the cop who appears to be in charge of the investigation that the trauma to the side of the head, PLUS the seat belt, PLUS the fact that there was no other trauma to the body leads him to think this was a homicide.  Finally, El gets some work to do!

Angela puts Mally down for having been a prostitute and mocks her for thinking that once Abdul makes up with his mom, he'll want a woman like her around.  She says that once Abdul gets over his lust, he'll start thinking about how many men she's been with.  "Leave, before he breaks up with you…because he will."  Angela leaves Mally in tears.  I don't want to dislike Angela, but she sounded and acted like she was channeling Diana just then.  Not cool.

Kimmy locks the office door so she and Morales can have a proper dessert after dinner.  They bleep out whatever she says as she prepares to, uh, mount…er…join him on his chair.  One of the other guys comes over to tell him about the new case and he stands up so fast he knocks Kimmy onto the floor.  She ends up hiding under the desk while Morales answers the door and pretends he was taking a nap and fell out of his chair.  They leave and Kim re-emerges and starts cleaning up the containers from dinner as the Big Boss walks in, wondering QTH she's doing there.

There's another knock at the door of Garcia Central Station and it's Tad with Natalia.  Nat hugs Irene and cries.  Irene cries.  Carmen encourages her to call Irene "mama" and says she won't be hurt.  Natalia says something to Irene, but she's crying so hard I have no idea what it was.  They hug and cry some more.

Kim pretends she was surprising El at work and didn't realize he wasn't in his office.  She leaves, and the Big Boss realizes he has no idea why he was in El's office in the first place.

Nat tells Irene that she talked Tad into taking her marrow and they're going to go get tested tomorrow.  Tad jokes that Nat got Irene and Carmen's stubbornness, so what's a guy to do.  Lupita is finally getting some happy crying in and tells Nat she likes her parents.  Paolo and Abdul join the love fest.  Brigitte shows up and insincerely tells Nat she's glad Nat found her "real" mother.  "It's nice to have a mom you can count on 100%"  Carmen rolls her eyes and tells Brigitte they need to talk.

Carmen starts off by criticizing Brigitte's snotty attitude and then gives up.  Brigitte gets right to the point, saying she's pregnant.

Natalia wonders what's going on, but all Irene knows is that Brigitte called a while ago.  Nat is hurt that Brigitte was throwing it in her face.  Tad has had about all the excitement he can stand for one day.  Nat gives him permission to go home and reminds him they have to get tested first thing tomorrow.  Before Tad and Irene can leave, Abdul insists on taking a picture.

Morales meets with Lab Coat Guy, who explains why he thinks the guy was dead before he got into the car and the crash was staged to cover it up.  Morales recognizes Alberto's name.

El shows up at Alonso's…awww, it just hit me that they're not The Al's anymore…and repeats Brigitte's suggestion that Alonso call Alberto's parents and play it cool.  They don't answer.  El thinks they must be out somewhere together.  Maybe Alberto just left his cell phone at home or the battery ran out.  He tells Alonso not to worry because bad news travels fast.  On cue, Morales calls El…who acts like Morales has to be walked through how to conduct an investigation…Morales explains how little info they have, but the car's owner is Alberto Campos Salgado.  El repeats this and looks at Alonso.

Carmen is surprised, but a baby is a blessing, not a problem.  "It is for me," counters Brigitte.  Carmen says she's not the first or the last…"Hey, I had 4!"…and says she's not going to chew Brigitte out for it.  "It's no problem!"  Carmen suddenly seems to remember what fun babies are to have around and her face falls a bit.  Brigitte's face would fall, but it has nowhere left to go.

El tells Morales he's on his way and tells Alonso that Alberto is dead.  Alonso throws something and picks up the phone.

Carmen assumes it's Alberto's baby, and won't that be great…then she thinks Brigitte is upset because she broke up with Al.  "It's not his baby."  "Then whose is it?"  Before Brigitte can answer, Alonso calls Brigitte, tells her Alberto's dead and it's all her fault, and curses her.

Alonso tells Brigitte she killed Alberto.  "Are you happy now!"  El takes the phone away from him and hangs up.  Alonso curses Brigitte and Rodrigo both.

Brigitte starts screaming that it's her fault and goes running out of the house.  Carmen has no clue what's going on.  She asks what's going on with Brigitte and Alberto and tells Paolo to leave the room with Lupita.  Nat knew about the pregnancy…and then, since she's questioned directly, says she knows who the father is, but she does NOT want to be the one to tell Carmen.  "Please don't make me have one more problem with Brigitte!"  Carmen insists she's going to support Brigitte, and she hopes Brigitte will stop making mistakes.  Abdul says he's definitely learned his lesson.  He's doing ok on his own for now, though, so he's not looking to move back home.  He goes back to his place.  Nat tells Carmen, "You wanted a man…looks like you've got one."

Alonso wants to see the body and El reluctantly agrees to take him.  Somebody's cell phone gets left by the coffee pot.

Abdul gets to his apartment to find Mally packing.  Ay, la pobre!  She's only got enough stuff to fit in one plastic grocery bag.  She's still crying over what Angela told her and tells Abdul that Angela is right.  Abdul won't let her go unless she says she was only fooling around with him and doesn't love him.  Well, she can't do that, but she doesn't want to hurt him.  Abdul says Angela is jealous and he doesn't care what she or anyone else thinks.

El and Alonso go to the morgue.  Morales tells them not to look.  "There's no way to recognize him."  El slooooooowly unzips the body bag while Alonso remembers Alberto's greatest hits--volleyball on the beach, finding the booze when they unpacked at Alonso's new apartment, setting up the surveillance  to bust Diana, the futbol game, dancing like a doofus, eating pizza, telling bad jokes, hauling a drunk Alonso around, throwing a drunken tantrum of his own.  Alonso cries on El's shoulder.

El and Alonso go back home and find Brigitte out in the hallway. El tells her they're sure Alberto is dead.  Alonso ignores her and goes into his apartment.  El invites her in to his place and tells her they're sure it was murder and he's not going to rest until he finds out what happened.  He calls Carmen to tell her that Alberto was murdered.  He says Brigitte is with him.  Carmen can't imagine anyone wanting to kill him…he was such a nice guy!  Brigitte doesn't want to talk to Carmen right now and El says he'll take her home in the morning.  Carmen says she's coming right over.  She cries for Alberto.

Brigitte slept in one of El's chairs.  Carmen and Nat show up, early.  Carmen hugs Brigitte and the Brigitte accuses Nat of being there to mock her.  Nat says they're all sad about Alberto's death, so she can only imagine how Brigitte must be feeling.  El takes Nat over to Alonso's so Carmen can talk to Brigitte alone.

Alonso is looking at pictures of the Bros and crying.  It doesn't look like he's slept or changed his clothes.  Nat and El come over and Nat gives Alonso her condolences and talks about what a great guy Alberto was.  Alonso is sure Rodrigo killed him because of Brigitte.  El swears they're investigating.

Brigitte tells Carmen she never wanted to hurt Alberto.  "Then why did you cheat on him?"  Brigitte says she doesn't know, but she feels terrible about treating him so badly.  She even thought he would be able to accept the baby…whose father is…Rodrigo.  Carmen now unleashes a tirade that seems to come almost directly from the comments on every recap for the last several weeks.  "WHAT?!!!!  HOW COULD YOU GET INVOLVED WITH HIM!!! HE'S TERRIBLE!!! HE WAS GOING TO RAPE YOUR SISTER!!! HE ALMOST KILLED DIEGO!!! HOW COULD YOU!!! HE'S THE MOST NEFARIOUS MAN I'VE EVER MET!!! WHAT'S GOING ON IN YOUR HEAD?!  You did it for ambition, didn't you?  Because of that jealousy you have for your sister.  Or, because of that jealousy, did you think you were getting involved with Diego?"  Brigitte weakly says it doesn't matter.  "Doesn't matter?  How far you've fallen.  I don't even know who you are anymore."  "Your daughter!  Who else?  Your daughter, who you're going to have to forgive and accept, whether you like it or not.  Sorry, mom, but that's how I am.  There's nothing to be done about it."  (She used the phrase "Que le vamos a hacer?" What are we going to do about it? Implying there isn't anything to do.)

Angela opens her door to an angry Abdul who tells her he wants her to stay away from Mally.  Angela…oh, Angela, why?!...lies and says she didn't say anything and Mally is making it up.  When Abdul reminds her of what she said, now Angela says it's true and Mally's just a ho who's just like Jaiba.  Abdul says he made a mistake with her and he wants her to stay away from him AND Mally.  Angela swears revenge.  Goodbye, Angela.  You were awesome once, back in the Good Vibes Kiosk days.  I once supported your hooking up with Abdul and was angry at the way he treated you.  But now it seems that since our beloved Alberto has been taken from us, leaving us a man short on this cruise, you have been sacrificed to keep the numbers closer to even.  It's a shame the writers have completely ruined your character this way, and I hope you make your way back to Team Garcia before you do anything that renders you unredeemable.

Alonso, El, and Nat look at the pictures while Alonso talks about his memories of Alberto.  Nat wonders if Diego has heard. She cries as she says he's going to be so hurt.  El says he hasn't been answering his phone.  Carmen knocks on the door and cries on El's shoulder after saying she knows the whole story now.

Rod peruses the morning papers and finds nothing.  He seems most upset that without any news reports, he doesn't know how much they know.  He says to himself that he has to pretend to be really upset.

Carmen goes over to PJ's to ask what she did wrong.  Alberto is dead and it's Brigitte's fault…because Brigitte was cheating on him and when Alberto found out, he lost it.  Carmen cries about what a selfish, jealous daughter she has and can't understand why Brigitte turned out that way.  The short version of PJ's explanation…"Free will."  He tells her Brigitte is a grown woman and if she wants Carmen's help, she needs to act like one.  Carmen hugs PJ and cries.

El goes over to Alberto's looking for Brigitte.  She lets him in and he neutrally says he needs Alberto's toothbrush to do an DNA test.  Brig asks if his parents have been informed already and El's professional demeanor cracks as he tells her she maybe could have thought about how she didn't want things to end this way BEFORE she slept with Rod and why didn't she just leave Alberto instead of cheating on him.  "Don't you see what your actions have led to?"

El brings the toothbrush back to his office.  Morales hasn't found any evidence.  It doesn't help that the crew who got there first didn't treat it like a homicide.  El swears that Rodrigo HAS to pay, and he doesn't care if there's no evidence.  He tells Morales to round up the posse…they're going after Rodrigo NOW!

A sad-faced Nat gets to Tad and Irene's.  She missed the morning appointment.  She tells them that Alberto died, but says it was an accident.  Later she admits it might have been a murder.  Tad immediately thinks it had something to do with Alberto being a lawyer.  Irene worries about how Diego and Alonso are taking it.  Nat says they need to reschedule the tests, so…where are they meeting tomorrow?

The cops show up at the Cacares Manse, but Hilda insists Rod isn't there.  El breaks it to Vicente that they're there to arrest Rod on suspicion of murdering Alberto.  Guys…have you learned nothing?!  Never give Vicente ANY information…EVER!

Rod calls Nat after Irene and Tad drop her off at home.  He's watching her from his car, parked across the street.  Nat says she knows he faked being with her to drive Diego away and that's why she and her mother left Caprico.  "Oh, so you know we're cousins now," he laughs.

Vicente blusters about not forgiving El for barging into his house without a warrant.  El counters that if Vicente warns Rod, he'll face charges for obstruction of justice.

Diego, in an anonymous hotel room, ignores his phone.  But not the text that says "Diego, you have to come back.  Alberto died."

El and Morales get the call that Rod is coming back and they run out to the driveway to point their guns at him before he's even out of his car.  He does get out of the car and pretends he's just hearing that Alberto is dead.  Vicente comes out to bluster.  Rod keeps swearing he didn't do anything and Alberto was his friend.  El ignores all of Vicente's threats and carts Rod away anyway.  Vicente watches them go, confused that for once his powers of intimidation didn't work.  Mr. 5ft: "Have your heart attack now!"  I agree, now would be a good time.

Nat is setting the table when Andres comes over with tamales.  She tells him about Alberto.  He offers his condolences to Nat and Carmen.  They look away when he says Brigitte must feel terrible.  He offers to leave, but Carmen calls Paolo and Lupita to the table.  Nat tells Andres that she's going to take him up on his job offer, since she figures her mom won't be ready to start working until her dad is recovered from his transplant.  Andres has no idea what she's talking about, but congratulates her once Carmen fills him in.  "So…Diego and Rodrigo are your cousins?"  Nat thanks God that Irene's an adopted Cacares.  She tells him about the transplant.

The next morning, Nat, Irene, Tad, and Carmen, show up at Tad's doctor's office.  He takes Tad to the lab and says he'll come back for Nat in a minute.  Nat says she's not nervous, but happy to help her dad.  She fills Irene in on Andres' new business and how she's going to help him out temporarily.  The doctor comes back for Nat and Carmen and Irene wish her luck.  Irene pumps Carmen for info about Andres.  Irene admits she's thinking about Diego and how foolish he was for leaving.

El doesn't buy Rod's innocent act.  Rod's story is that Alberto smacked him around a bit, but then left his house alive.  El tries to draw a line from Rod's lack of giveacrap for his own brother, his willingness to sleep with his "best friend's" girlfriend, and killing Alberto.  Rod denies there's any connection, pretends he wants justice for Alberto, and refuses to talk anymore since El has dragged him in there without any evidence.

Nat is optimistic she and Tad will be a good match and he'll be recovered in no time.

Angela goes to the fonda to complain to Toño about Mally and Abdul.  She wants him to spy on Mally and catch her with another guy.  Because, of course, someone like her is BOUND to be sleeping with SOMEBODY.  And Toño agrees to do it, for Abdul's sake.

Alonso lobbies to be allowed to interrogate Rodrigo and El finally gives in, but he's going to send one of his guys in with Alonso.

Vicente can't get a hold of his BFF the AG.  He's on vacation and unreachable.

Alonso and Cenudo(?) go into the interrogation room.  Alonso's strategy is to criticize Rod for sleeping with Brigitte.  Rod repeats his made up story…now adding that Alberto might have killed himself.  Alonso says he was dead before he went over the cliff.  Rod says Brigitte was probably sleeping with some other guy/s too and maybe one of them killed Alberto.  Alonso resorts to grabbing Rodrigo by the lapels and screaming "You killed him!  Admit it!"  El drags him out of there while Rod gloats that whoever loses their cool, loses.

Tomorrow: Diego is back in town and Nat takes him to a hotel to prove she didn't sleep with Rod by sleeping with him.  It doesn't look like it goes well.  Prepare for emotional trauma.

Comments:
I'm totally furious at Angela and expecting it will only get worse from here.

I'm glad Nat was easily convinced by PJ and by Tad's letter and the "you abandoned me" phase wasn't dragged out.

I think Brigitte both has and hasn't seen the error of her ways. Like it hasn't fully hit her yet. But it does look like they're going that route of trying to get her back on Team Good--though she resists being on Team Nice! Too bad she doesn't have any evidence against Rodrigo. Not for anything that could get him put away, at least.

Totally out of character for Angela.

Rod' s definitely a sociopath. Absolutely no remorse.

Nanette

I'm worried Nat and Tadio won't be a match. What are the chances of that?

I should have said in real life.

"Morales shows up at work, apparently still able to walk."

Alright Sassy Lady...way to start my morning off with a chuckle. Yes, Morales is evidently young and strong. Kimmy also, who still seemed able to walk rather than wobble.

Have to admit I got all mushy and tearful during the Tad/Natalia explanation and the final tearful reunion at Carmen's. More mushy tears when Carmen says "it's okay to call her 'mama', I don''t mind."

And then Brigette blows in like Toxic Waste and the Magic fades.

And color me FURIOUS at these writers. Not only did they kill Alberto, but they're killing Angela by turning her into a total witch. That is NOT her character. She would not act that way, even if disappointed in love. Okay, she might fantasize doing mean things to break up the couple, but she wouldn't actually do it because someone with her character would know it was WRONG. Hate these manipulations to produce more DRAMA. Ugh.

Back to your writing: Also loved
"Brigette's face would fall but it has nowhere else to go."

And also: "short explanation: free will". Ah yes, the enduring mystery of the human condition--we can choose what to do and what to think--and we choose envy, jealousy, hate and harm. Oh my.

I stopped watching after the first hour, so special thanks for another wonderful recap. My Spanish closed captions have been gobbeledygook for the last few days so appreciated the recap all the more.

Good morning, 5ft, I enjoyed your recap so much. The most funny part for me was your mentioning that Morales could still walk.

I too don't understand how Angela went from being such a peace loving advocate for everybody to being a harpy. Was there a transition that I missed?

I have to disagree with Mr. 5ft: I don't want Vituperous Vicente to kick the bucket until all his theft and manipulation have been revealed so he can finally check out in complete and utter disgrace.

Judy, liked your "Brigette blows in like Toxic Waste. . ."

Nanette, I have been wondering about the match between Tad and Nat too. Seems too pat to assume that it is a done deal.

Thanks again, 5ft for your hard work and delightful take on things.

David

Excellent, Kat! I agree with Mr. 5Ft. Of course, I think any time is the right time for Vicente to have a heart attack. :)

I think El is going to get in trouble for bringing in Rod with no evidence. No warrant. No evidence. If they had a warrant they would have done a proper search and found the evidence under the bushes.

I agree that the Angela we have known so far would have never been so mean, even if that's what she was thinking about Mali. And let's face it, if you were Abdul's friend, didn't get to see Mali's transformation, and only knew her as one of Jaiba's treacherous whores, who tried to use trickery to ruin Carmen's business, you'd be skeptical too. But it wasn't right for Angela to say those things to Mali, and I think it goes against her character. Maybe once Tono reports back that all he's seen Mali do is work hard at the store, Angela will realize her error.

Judy- I also had to reach for the Kleenex this episode.

I'll read the recap in just a sec Kat, but I see we are on the same page regarding Angela. What was former home girl smoking last night?

JudyB I was reaching for a hankie too!

Ha! "Finally El gets some work to do!"

And then he goes and tells Vicente too much and arrests Rod w/o a warrant. Don't screw this up, El!

I loved little welcoming Lupita last night. Diabolical, but sweet.

It was nice seeing all the Garcias (minus Brat) together last night. It's been a while. I also loved how Lupita and the boys (now men) welcomed Irene and Tad into the family.

Kat, scrumptious from beginning to end. You make the good better and the best sublime.

"Natalia, Natalia, Natalia!" whines Brigitte yet again. Hey, there you are, Brat…wondered where you'd gotten to!; "An excited hug morphs into some quality smoochies" and "Brigitte's face would fall, but it has nowhere left to go" were among my favorites.

I cried again last night – at Nat and the Padre, Nat and Tadeo, Alonso’s hearbreak and other times too numerous to count. Why does this tug at my heartstrings so? I'm glad I'm not alone as so many of you have stated you felt the same.

I loved the fact Natalia went to the Padre for comfort and conversation. He explained, she listened. I have no doubt the news was likely more easily digested coming from a beloved third party. After her initial shock wore off, she was able to process, and not only accept but embrace the truth. I thought this unfolded beautifully and realistically.

I know Alonso was devastated, but his calling Brig up screaming at her was really unpardonable, especially as the man is a doctor. I like so many facets of the character but again, he is just too immature for Irene.

What perplexed me was Angela. I guess the writers had to do something to justify Abdul being with Mally and turning Angela into a witch was apparently the way to do it. I think Angela is a strong woman but agree with Nanette, I don’t think this was in keeping with her character. She didn’t look remorseful either, did she? I think you nailed it Kat “you have been sacrificed to keep the numbers closer to even”. Sigh.

Loved the montage of the newly but deeply missed Alberto.

I had thought Brig might be turning a corner, but alas, no. "And then Brigette blows in like Toxic Waste and the Magic fades" - wonderful Judy.

David, I don't care when Vincente goes, as long as he goes. He is an utter waste of a human being. That said, I would probably hope for an imminent departure before he do too much more harm.

With every episode, DQTQ is moving higher on my list of favorites. The 2 hours fly by (I'm sure not for you wonderful recappers), but every episode is a treat. Every recap is a gift.

Wonderful comments all!

Kat, fantastic. Diana

Kat, got it all in and doesn't seem you have to even try. Second nature I guess. "Alberto the Incinerated"

Now wait a darn minute, they abruptly kill Alberto and now go after my girl Angela and try to convince me she is a she devil in a billowy ethnic blouse? Next, they'll have Lupita's head spin and spew green pea soup at PJ.

I got to be wary and not dismiss a sense of foreboding just because of all the happy tears from Nat, Irene & Tad.

Nat - "I'm walking on sunshine, whoa. And don't it feel good"

Brigitte - but mom, there's just something about the dude, ask Nat

Irene - things are looking up so don't screw it up

Tad - love boat has sailed already

El - you're fired

Lupita - reasonable assumption

Rod - when I try to imagine something hot, I don't mean Alberto

Alsono - go cry to your mother Irene, know you want to

Angela - well, he does have a propensity for prostitutes

Carmen - that love fest and group hug was kinda awkward

Morlas - you're gonna get caught, just you wait and see

5ft - Thanks for the great recap! I'd forgotten some of that stuff in my shock at all of the weird behavior last night.

Tofie - "Now wait a darn minute, they abruptly kill Alberto and now go after my girl Angela and try to convince me she is a she devil in a billowy ethnic blouse? Next, they'll have Lupita's head spin and spew green pea soup at PJ." THANK YOU!!! That sums it up perfectly.

I think they're counting on extreme emotions to justify some reactions from last night, but I think they missed the mark several times.:

1) Angela - 5ft said it well: shades of Diana last night. I get the "woman scorned" (and Abdul, don't pretend the attraction was all one -sided), but her mean-spiritedness was shocking. She ahs a lot of good points, for someone who doesn't know Mali at all, but she didn't need to share and certainly not the way she did.

2) The range of emotions over Alberto's death was a little weird. I guess I'm used to the over the top reactions on a tn, everyone screaming and collapsing into sobs and vowing revenge, so I was surprised that the Garcias were just kinda sad. It makes sense though, I know. He was a nice guy and kind of a friend, but they didn't know him that well, he wasn't family or anything. Still when Nat tells Irene and then abruptly reschedules the marrow test, I was like "really? that's it". And a text to Diego?! Alonso, wtf?! Alberto's death totally knocked that one off a wall. That call to Brig (as much as I want to see her suffer) was a little ridiculous, that text was ridiculous, and Rod played him easily in the interrogation room. If they'd showed him as a more reasonable man up to this point, it all would've made more sense and played out much stronger with the audience, imo because he would've been completely "sacado de onda," but as it stands he's just being characterized as emotional and irrational all the time. It's kind of making me mad because I think the story would be stronger all around if they'd stop doing that.

3) Rod is a nut job, he was scanning those papers because he WANTS to see his crime. He wants to revel in getting away with it. If they weren't already onto him, I'd say we were watching the birth of a serial killer.

4) Nat does WHAT?! I really hope it doesn't get to that point. Diego's kissing her and realizing that's not what she wants, so I really hope they stop short of actually making love? Having sex? I don't know what to call what I saw in the avances. Nat...girl, why? Why? You don't need to prove anything to him! And if you really wanted to, you could try going to a doctor first (though that's not always a guarantee), but seriously, what are you thinking?!

HellaShelle- I'll forgive Al telling Diego in a text because Diego was being a baby and refusing to answer his phone. He should know that if people are blowing up your phone, maybe there is something really wrong and you should answer. He brought on getting that news via text himself.

ITA about the previews. But it looks like this is the nail in the coffin (at least for now) for Diego and Nat. I just wish he could have found the wig, and that would be all the proof he needs. He's being an idiot.

Don't get me started on how Angela is getting at my Tono to stalk Abdul and Mali. I hope this is only a short phase for Angie and the writers better not take Tono out back and shoot at him. He's always been the quiet one and ATM one of my favorites.

I never hated Abdul and understood why he let La Jaiba influence him since Carmen for a while took his good behavior for granted and he had seeked refuge; Slutty refuge but refuge nevertheless. I'm glad he rehabilitated however and he is a telenovio for me.

I always liked Paolo; he is a stand-up guy and always there for his mom, Lupita, Nat, Mara and told off Brat'Git. I'm just worried about his character Centavito in La Gata; maybe he'll be like Tobias from CI-the best male character in the show and disappear before any flanderization. (Also, I don't want Paolo to go in the direction BonBon from PSMA went where we thought he would grow to be like Bruno. I doubt that would ever happen since Paolo isn't with a girl who drives blood to a boil Like 'Za did.)

Andres is a cutie and I have a thing for Jose Carlos Femat. I also liked his role as a stripper de una ruca in Zacatillo; his name was Alain. (Another telenovio.) I find his deep voice comical.

Angie and Mara have always been cool; Sure Angie has unexpectedly turned on the bitch-switch but I'm sure it'll be turned off in a little. Mara on the other hand I have NO complaints about whatsoever.

Mali I saw from the start she was showing remorse because one of the crabettes had mentioned possibly getting in trouble for the varmin infestation Jaiba staged. Relfection on actions and slow remorse is always a first step in redemption and I say Mali is the one crabette who showed remorse since she was the first to leave the brothel.

Finally, Tono; He is really quiet and you forget he is there but I've always noticed him. I'm hoping he ends up with Angela once or if her bitch switch is turned off. He's a cutie as well BTW.

I find it interesting that Abdul and Paolo who have a good mom whilst their fathers were absent until recent have girlfriends with abusive pasts inflicted by mother figures and not a father figure in sight (well until they got together Abdul was fatherly to Mali right?); Mara's Pobre Diabla Momma from hell and Mali's Mommy Needs a Beer Mommy who just handed her off to Krusterz Confidential Mcgee who is most likely a nun now. I remember when you guys were stating Angie couldn't really be a mother figure for Mara but more like an older compassionate sister who was with responsible and divorced dad (I threw that last part in there about divorced dad but you get what I'm saying.)

This is a very thought provoking novela with good side characters and while we're on the topic of parents, I want to meet Irene's real parents. Just a thought.

As others have said, they had to trash Angela's character to justify why Abdul would choose to be with a known prostitute over her.

I'm hoping she and Andres get together.

I don't think Brigitte's returning to Team Good because she was never on Team Good to begin with. The Garcia siblings at various points in this show have indicated that Brigitte's foul & sour nature is par for the course. You know that family member that just can't get right? The one that no amount of help, love, support or 2nd/3rd chances will help? Brigitte is that family member...the Garcia siblings love her but know she just can't get right.

The outburst at Natalia's bio-parents being wealthy and from a distinguished family speaks to how she feels about Carmen's situation. Why couldn't *I* have been the one with rich parents? That right there was a slap in the face to Carmen, who may not have had the most money but she did what she had to do to feed her kids and put a roof over their heads.

And poor Carmen, realizing Brigitte is an ambitious monster who slept with Rodrigo thinking he was Diego to get back at Natalia.

Yes, Brigitte has free will. She freely and willingly pretended to be Natalia in order to hurt Diego & Natalia AFTER knowing that:

Rod tried to kill Diego

Rod tried to rape Natalia

Rod knocked her up & claimed he wasn't the daddy

But she still is helping him because she thinks she's helping herself.

I think she ran to Carmen to tell her about the pregnancy hoping Carmen would help her get rid of the baby.

CorazonSalvaje- Irene's bio parents are dead. It was explained briefly during one of Vicente's early rants at her. His wife somehow knew Ierene's parents and immediately wanted to adopt her when Irene's parents died.

I think Amalia Caceres knew Irene's birth mom; I want to say that Irene's birth mom died and that's why Amalia Caceres adopted Irene.

I think there's an expectation that people who are doctors should comport themselves in a dignified manner at all times, and doctors are human too. Alonso had just found out his BFF was murdered, most likely by Rodrigo (who attempted to kill his other BFF and tried to rape his BFF's girlfriend 2x), all on account of Brigitte, who was cheating on him. Alonso saw how troubled Alberto had been over his suspicion that Brigitte was cheating on him, so to confirm that and know that Alberto went over to Caceres Manor to confront Rodrigo about Brigitte had to be a blow for Alonso.

I'm giving Alonso a pass for screaming at Brigitte. Will she use this experience to change? For right now, no because even after being screamed on by Alonso & finding out about Alberto's murder she's still blaming Natalia and resenting Carmen for her station in life.

If Nat indeed boinks Diego tonight, it will be so she gets to him before Brigitte.

El should be busted back to traffic cop and Rodrigo buy him a popsicle for the gift he gave him. Oh, Alonso has way to high an opinion of himself and Hot Rod ate him for lunch, proving once again he at best a quack. Now, if he could have given Rod a shot of sodium pentothal maybe he would have had a shot.

Lupita you are soooooooooooooo cute and just love it when you overhear a tidbit and even as you are ushered out of the room, all ears.

I really still don't know what Brat is complaining about. She has a great and loving family, who forgive her crappy attitude. Her loving mom made enough money to put her through college/trade school (which is exactly what Nat got too). Her sister gets her a sweet job at a design company, just what she wanted, before she was even done with college. She finds an amazing, sweet, boyfriend, who loves her so much he wants to marry her and buy her a beautiful condo. Just what is SOOOO horrible about Brat's life that she feels she deserves more, or that Nat is somehow taking something away from her?

I was perfectly fine with Alonso going off on Brigitte. But I'm kind of an a-hole.

then remind me to never anger you

LOL!

I also love Lupita and her nosiness.

I'm really not looking forward to tonight. After seeing the avances last night I was really cranky and stomped around for a bit. I think Nat is quite possibly the dumbest protagonist I've seen.

yeah, Nat makes the simpleton Kimmy appear an intellectual giant.

I'm not mad at Al for flipping out last night. I like that he did, because I feel like Alberto's death deserves intense emotional response. I'm mad at him for not texting Diego "Answer the phone. Alberto's been in a horrible car accident." and then telling him he was dead. But, Vivi, I can agree with you, Diego was being a butt, and if I was Al, I might have been like "fine! you don't want to answer to get this news? Here then, you get it via text!" too. But that's what I want to see. In addition to the begging, the crying, the baby making mission. I just need some moments of self reflection that let me know that he's aware that some of his actions are ridiculous. I wanted to see him say "Look, Karina, I understand that you have feelings for me, and honestly, I think you're great. You're sweet and very nice, but I don't have those feelings for you and I'm afraid if we keep hanging out, you're going to be the one that gets hurt. I'm willing to try to be friends, if you are, but I want to be sure we can both handle that." or "Irene, maybe I'm acting like an idiot and maybe I should know better because I'm a psychiatrist, but when it comes to you, there's no amount of education that can make me use logic over what I feel. I'm so in love with you, sometimes I just act crazy. I forget rationality, and I just act out of instinct. I'm sorry and I'm trying."

Sorry, I'm rambling. I just really want o sympathize with his character rather than just rolling my eyes at him and slapping my forehead with my palm.

I actually think the previews have Nat being kind of smart. She's not putting a bunch of importance on a made up concept (virginity) and the idea is that if Diego cares more about that than simply saying "no I trust you and love you and I don't care", then they're done. It's a little Greek tragedy almost, but from her standpoint I think it's a good way to move on from someone who only seems to care about having sex with her.

Gracias for the comments Nanette, JudyB, David, Vivi, Sara, Diana, tofie, HellaShelle, CorazonSalvaje, Anon207! (I hope I'm not forgetting anyone!) I see we're all in agreement about Angela's dramatic change.

"And then Brigette blows in like Toxic Waste and the Magic fades." JudyB, perfect description!

David, you make a good point...if Vicente checks out now, he doesn't get to have all his misdeeds exposed. Plus I think I'd like to see Vicente's head exploding when he actually has to see Tad, Irene, and Natalia together.

Vivi, I hope they go back in daylight and find that wrench, but I don't know how they'd get a warrant. Maybe on the basis that it was the last place Alberto was seen alive? And/or that Rod and Hilda were the last people to see him alive? I hope that Angela doesn't get the bright idea to ruin Mally's new job by telling her new boss about her past. "What's so horrible about Brat's life?" Only the things she's done to it on her own.

"She devil in a billowy ethnic blouse," indeed, tofie!

HellaShelle, I think you're right about Rod wanting to see a news report so he can gloat. I mean, really, playing dumb doesn't require research. I don't know what tonight's horizontal activity would be called and I hope nothing happens. What happened to the Nat that would have said "I don't have to prove anything to you. If you don't trust me, then it wouldn't have worked out anyway."?

Anon207, I don't think they had to trash Angela for Mally's sake. She and Abdul have always clicked. He was into her before Angela's abrupt personality change. Brigitte is...I don't know. You're right, she's never been good...but she was never quiiiiite evil until after moving to DF. There were fewer opportunities in Tuxpan, I guess. There was something about the call from Alonso, though, and El's lecture to her and how she's not arguing with anyone when they tell her it's her fault Alberto is dead. It makes me think if she was completely unrepentant she'd be brushing that off and saying he didn't have to go confront Rod. Geez...they've ruined Angela and now they're trying to give Brigitte some depth. I'm all kinds of confused.

Thanks for your recap Kat. You, Nanette, Judy, tofie and others have completely summed up my rage at the writers for conveniently changing Angela's character b/c they killed off Big Al. The Angela written before tonight would not have pulled that and to go to the cliched woman scorned as harpy is a cop out.

Little Al is still immature (and not worthy of Irene) but as Anon207 noted, I'm willing to give him pass b/c of the shock and his suspicion about the Brat.

Sara, I completely understand why you are upset about the previews. I blocked them out and when I remembered again I got anxious about another plot point the writers could possibly screw up.

Vivi and Anon207 points on Brat clearly delineate for me why I don't think this character will change. She's self-centered and greedy. Though she has had a nice life, her hatred of her sister and not being rich, are what defines her existence.

Oh and I don't fault Alonso for losing it. It was an emotional response to the death of someone he loved very much and who really deserved a better fate.

To expand on what I said earlier, Nat knows she hasn't done anything so she's really trying to get Diego to prove to her that he loves her. If he loves her, he says no. If he doesn't, he goes through with it effectively ending their relationship because he cares more about having sex with her.
I don't think she will go through with it anyway. I think if he chooses to do it, she's going to tell him to get lost before they do the deed.
But even if they did, I'd appreciate it from a standpoint of not putting a ton of importance on an outdated, harmful concept like virginity and basically leaving Diego to realize it wasn't worth losing Nat over.

I don't fault Alonso for his emotional outburst last night, someone needed to say it and they couldn't hear me and I was up close to the TV, but for all the boneheaded things he has done heretofore and hereafter. His pants are too tight too.

Anon at 11:24 I'm cool with not putting a lot of emphasis on virginity or purity, but there's still consent, and the idea that Natalia is a human being, not just a body. If she wants to be with him, I say go for it! If she doesn't want to be with him, then there's no reason to offer herself up as a piece of meat for him to use. And if she does want to be with him, then the charade is unnecessary.

Tofie - thanks, that was much more succinct thatn my ramble. If the before had been better, I think last night's justified performance would've been all the more powerful.

Anon11:35 - Good point, it is a refreshing take.

The Brat doesn't see what she's got, only what she doesn't. Like a child, she doesn't remember all the times mommy picks her up and kisses the booboo, the hundreds of breakfasts she puts in front of her, etc. All she sees is the lollipop she wants, and her mommy not giving it to her...because of Natalia.

"the charade is unnecessary"

Nat is 26 and married whom she thought was Diego and surely had "the talk" with Carmen years ago.

This silly girl reminds me when I was 16 and trying to determine the real reason a guy liked me and so fearful of a mistake.

Thank you for this fabulous recap and all the spot-on comments.

I agree with David that Vicente needs to live long enough to be brought low. But some severe angina along the way wouldn't upset me. (David, Mike says hi, by the way. Our little Aly turned two on Saturday so I'd better update her photo!)

Angela, darlin', haul out the crystals and incense, put on some calming music, light candles, whip up a disgusting looking smoothie, and hop into a bubble bath...

Or, Natalia could be trying to have sex with Diego to prove that she was still a virgin and thus could not have slept with Rodrigo.

Yes! That's what I'm having trouble with. She's going to sleep with Diego to prove she didn't sleep with Rod?! I don't like that.

Thanks, Karen and Emilia!

"Or, Natalia could be trying to have sex with Diego to prove that she was still a virgin and thus could not have slept with Rodrigo." That's what she says she's doing, which makes no sense whatsoever, because I'm pretty sure Diego wouldn't know the difference. That only works in romance novels...oh, wait, that's pretty much what we've got here...never mind, Nat, carry on with your ridiculous plan.

Gosh, I'm grouchy! Emilia, maybe I'm the one who needs some crystals and a smoothie!

"Or, Natalia could be trying to have sex with Diego to prove that she was still a virgin and thus could not have slept with Rodrigo."

Yes, that's what I got out of the avances. I guess she's relying on the ancient bloold-on-the-sheet virginity test?

i just don't get why she would do it. They're supposed to be done, so why does it even matter? This is just a far way to go for pride in your reputation with one person, imo.

I'm going to put the upsetting previews out of my mind until tonight when we see how it all plays out. There will be plenty enough time to be upset after reading tomorrow's recap. :)

Emilia- Great advice to our former Earth mother, Angela-- crystals, incense, calming music, candles, a smoothie, and a bubble bath. She needs to find her center again.

Classic Brigitte - "Natalia gets everything! Waaaa! They should be MY parents, not HERs! Waaaa!" She was so ridiculous she literally made me laugh!

And her snide remark that now that Natalia found her parents, maybe SHE (Brig) could have her own mother 100% of the time! As if Carmen has been short-changing her all this time. Imbecil!

Lest we all forget, Nat is a simpleton and drama queen so why not a passive/aggressive offer of her virginity to justify a stomp, huff, indignation and gully washer of tears.

Yet ANOTHER Fantastic 5FT Recap!!!

I loved this: "Morales shows up at work, apparently still able to walk."So true; so very true. :))

Add me to the list of Readers in a Rage over Angela. Sometimes, I fail to understand these writers when they do things that don't make sense.

I felt such sadness at the flashback to that sweet Alberto in good times. I am sometimes amazed at the reactions these TN can bring out in a viewer.

I think El was more than a tad premature in bringing in Rod last night. El is not a dumb man. Why would he bring in that sociopath Rod on a hunch when he knows that Rod has been one step ahead of everyone all this time?!

I am going to really miss the Garcia family. With the exception of the Toxic Waste (great one Judyb!!) known as Fish Lips Brat, I will really miss this family.

Fatima

Thanks, Fatima. It was a nice little montage of Big Al moments. I hope he's still going to get a proper funeral/memorial.

I hope so, too, 5FT. You've been simply amazing in your recapping of this story, 5FT. One day, I KNOW we will all be saying..."I knew her when...!"

Fatima

Stupid Eleazar just proved why cops should not be allowed to work on cases where there is personal involvement. Supposedly he is such a great detective that he gets all these promotions and awards, but a cool head is crucial in solving crimes. If he had reined in his temper he would have calmly been able to figure out, from what Alonso and Brigitte said, that Alberto had last been seen alive at the Caceres home. He would have talked to the staff when both Vicente and Rodrigo were out of the house and then with Hilda's help, patiently and thoroughly questioned Tiburcio, obtained a search warrant, and found the murder weapon (yes, I know it wasn't premeditated, but still) THEN he would have grounds for an arrest. I bet the rope that Rodrigo used to keep the car in gear as he sent it over the cliff is still somewhere in his possession. But now anything he tries to do will be tainted with his rash stupidity in jumping the gun with a totally illegal arrest and a good lawyer will see to that. Once again, the Teflon Rod will get away with everything.

I hate that I'm thinking "Well, how many episodes are left?" because that really determines whether El will be able to get away with this and somehow crack Rod or not.

Anon1:17 - yup. This is a beanie moment fo me, as all of his personal use of police resources has been. It's kind of in the "rampant bribery/corruption in tns" category for me.

Fatima - I'm going to miss them too. Aside from Brig, I've wished I could see spin offs of all of them. Lupita in a Carita de Angel type show, Paolo/Mara and Abdul/Mali (I'm such a sucker for the hug and head kiss, that Abdul had me melting last night).

I'm wondering if something happened to Angela during those edited eps a few weeks ago that caused her to have changed. She turned up as a full time worker at the fonda during this time, and we never knew why--or we were never shown why. Has she mentioned anything new agey or used her cards since she started working at the fonda?

Think girl, if Abdul didn't go to you after Jaiba, then he ain't ever going to be with you.

She mentioned doing a limpia for the re-opening and Carmen agreed, but they didn't really show it. I think she read Natalia's cards the day before Diego came back from Monterrey. I don't remember which of those was more recent.

I was thinking Angela was going to whip out her magic box on Abdul (and still may) and saw fire in those eyes. I understand she has lost patience but Abdul barked at her every time she came around he and Jaiba so why does she even want the guy now.

I really hopes Angela steps bank from the brink and looks around for another prospect. She's also doing perfectly fine on her own-- has her own place, good friends, a job. The fact is that Mali and Abdul really needed each other. Angela can find a man who meets her needs (and vice versa), but that's not Abdul.

Nanette, that's a good question. At the time, I thought the writers were trying to bring her more into the fold of the cast of characters. I can't imagine she'll take this Abdul situation to a serious antagonista level. It would be really sad if she wasn't part of the group at the end of the show.

I don't want her to change, I like her new agey feel and her softer look. It's a nice break from the super thin models with the super short skirts. Maybe spying on Mali and Abdul will bring her closer to Tony instead?

For some reason the writers wanted Mali for Abdul (it's not a bad thing) and probably thought it necessary to turn Angela antagonistic in order to achieve this. But it is totally unnecessary. They could have just have her remain true to her calm, smart, and caring personality and find someone else for her (Tony). After all, she's supposed to be both Natalia's and Mara's best friend! What are they doing to those friendships? As close as she's been to the Garcia family, now this? Ridiculous.
