La Gata #111 - Wed 2/4- La Muerte

Tonight, the quote in the heading is especially apt...
"Come, let us gather together and suffer, sisters and brothers." -- Alice

With zero refrito, we go right back to the wedding in progress.  Pablo's hair is less sticky-uppy than usual.  Esme's locks gleam.  They remember their first wedding.

Gi monologues to the lighter…and gets busted by HatBro.  She just keeps flicking her Bic uselessly…that's not a euphemism.

The wedding continues.  Everyone smiles at each other.  Vicky is there, which explains HatBro's presence, sort of.  Maybe he doesn't like weddings.  Or needed to use the facilities.  Yes, Lo, you still don't love Esme.  We get it.  We got it the last fifty times you said it.  Mariano's back to a plaid bow tie…and looking at his mother like he knows what she's thinking.  And who doesn't, with that sour expression on her face?  Javier is there, looking only slightly less unhappy.  They close the deal with a big smooch.  Too bad, Gi.

Outside, HatBro tells Gi he can help her.  Because he's a psychiatrist.  I'm not kidding.  He really said that.  I don't know if I believe him at this point.  If this were the US, he'd have an obligation to call the cops on her as she's about 9/10 of the way to causing herself or someone else bodily harm.  He hustles her the hell out of there as Damian emerges from the church with Vicky on his arm.  Damian seems to feel the disturbance in the force.  Or maybe he smells the gasoline.

Pabs and Esme head for the reception out on the lawn.  I notice the Barrio Boyz in clean versions of their usual duds, holding incongruous wine glasses.  Heh.  Hugs, handshakes, and congratulations abound.  Lo is still grumpy--big shock.  Rita thinks that for once, the cards lied to her.  But we all know that on these shows, the cards NEVER lie.  There was an older man, tears, and prison--that would be Fernando, right?  Chácharas interrupts her reverie.  Esme goes to talk to Javi, who's hiding behind a tree.  He's going to Germany, where there are lots of opportunities.  Esme is sure they'll meet again.  Oh, for…just let him go, Esme.  Jarocha is NOT wearing a scrunchie…I repeat NOT wearing a SCRUNCHIE!  Esme tosses the bouquet and…commercial.

Esme and Pablo dance while she serenades him.

Gi is already in a padded cell, wearing a straitjacket, while HatBro says he's going to cure her, 'cause she's hoooooooot.  Dude, what do you mean that what "they" did to her is a sin?  I don't even know where to go with that.  Where did he find a padded cell so quickly?  Or do all his outfits look the same?

Virgina has passed out.  So help me….

Garabato, in his stupid hat, is in what I assume is a lawyer's office.  Is he wearing a shirt that says "Victor" on it?  Or is it "Actor"?

Virginia has come around and she and Carlos are at the doctor's office.  The Enfermedad With No Name is being controlled with meds, but Virginia is pregnant.  QTH, doctor dude…"How could you let this happen?"  Nice bedside manner, jackass!

Why is Ines not in jail?  Garabato goes to visit and tell her that her dad is dead, but she doesn't care…or so she says.  Garabato tells her that no one connected her to what happened with Jarocha and Jarocha's keeping her mouth shut, so Ines gets a second chance.  I think this is, what, her third or fourth "second chance"?  He proposes and she cracks up, even when he puts the big rock that he bought with actual money into her hand.

Carlos is now blaming Virginia for making him fall in love with her and then getting him to marry her so she can leave him alone.  He doesn't want to have a baby to remember her by, he wants her to stick around, but (and on this I agree with him) she's determined to die.  Ouch…he says he'll never love the baby.  QTH, show?

Well, Ines WOULD have married Garabato, but now she has no feelings, so that's that.  Garabato says this was a one-time-only offer.  Ines mocks his official name and says he'll never get his hands on the kid.

Pablo visits Mariano's office…ENOUGH WITH THE HOODIES ALREADY!  Mariano is surprised Esme isn't with him…she's off having "chick talk" with Virginia.  Pablo's book is going to be made into a movie and they want him to write the screenplay.  Which is pretty impressive for an established author, let alone a first-time author.

Esme thinks Virginia is being ridiculous for expecting Carlos to be ok with her decision.  Virginia mentions that the doctors want to do a "legrado" but she won't allow it.  Basically, an abortion, though that specific word means "curettage" in English.

Carlos prays and asks forgiveness for maybe being wrong and for being selfish and not wanting to lose the love of his life and be left alone.

Esme whines to Virginia about how she's going to be leaving them all alone and just for her stubbornness, when there are plenty of kids out there to adopt, and Esme won't support her in this because it's just a "capricho" (whim).  QTH with the tone and the insults from the queen of being stubborn, throwing tantrums, and doing things on a whim?!  Geez, I'm not even sure I agree with Virginia, but she IS a grown woman and she doesn't deserve to be talked down to like this.  She wants Esme to convince Carlos to come around.  Yeah, that's not going to happen.

We see Carlos singing in a coffee shop (with a guitar that's only slightly out of tune).  Flashbacks to fun times with Virginia.

I just screamed at the TV.  Esme tells Blanca that Virginia got pregnant even though the doctor told her not to.  I wish people would quit talking like she did this on purpose.  Even Jarocha.  And now, here comes Pablo and I am so not looking forward to hearing his reaction.

Victor/Garabato fusses and paces in Fernando's office.  Fernando is like the father to everyone under the age of 30 on this show.  Fernando will talk to the lawyer about what Victor can do to get the baby back.  Victor also wants lessons on how to be a gentleman.

And when we return from a commercial break, there he is, walking with a book on his head "days later."  Being tutored.  Still wearing another shirt with "VICTOR" on it.  Now Esme is helping with things like how to order in a restaurant and analyze the menu like a pedantic snob.  Is "pedantic snob" redundant?  Fernando announces that it is time for the makeover.  He balks, as Esme did, but doesn't have to be dragged back into the chair by Damian…remember that?  So long ago.  The stylist is giving him a dry cut--the advantage of which is that she'll already know how the curls will lay.  Don't say this show never taught you nothin'.

An unspecified amount of time passes.  Esme is graduating…from high school, I think…as valedictorian of her class.  She thanks her parents, her kids, Jarocha, Meche, Rita (seriously?), Chácharas, Virginia, Carlos…and finally Pablo, the love of her life.  Virginia appears to have a bit of a bump, but she's sitting down, so I can't tell.

Months later…at this rate, when we have the final next week, it's going to be 20 years later…a couple show up to negotiate for Ines' womb fruit.  They say they'll give her all the money she wants.

Virginia and Carlos' baby is kicking and they're at least talking, but Carlos isn't any happier about the whole thing.  He's making an effort, since their time is limited.

Ines is big and cranky and she can't take it anymore, damnit!  In a flash, she's screaming quite convincingly in the delivery room and the baby is out.  Looks like they found her an actual newborn, or at least not a three-month-old.  She doesn't want to hold him and won't listen to Rita about not giving him up.  The prospective parents come in with a suitcase full of bills--2M pesos.  They take the baby out of Rita's arms and go.  Ines tells her the kid will thank them for it later.  I'm going to laugh if this was a plot by Gara/Victor.

Virginia is going into the delivery room and feeling like she's about to fulfill her life's purpose.  Carlos is left out in the hallway, alone.  A squalling newborn is held close so Virginia can touch their head.  Out in the hallway, Carlos cries and is comforted by Esme, while Pablo crinkles his forehead and Mariano stands off behind them.  The doctor comes out and announces that it's a girl, and as far as Virginia goes, they should expect the worst.  Because modern medicine is no match for the Enfermedad With No Name.  Virginia has some bonding time with the baby and QTH WHY IS LO THERE?  She gives Virginia a blessing, while she holds the baby she and Augie had nothing but racial epithets for in episodes past.  Is a blessing from Lo really a blessing, I wonder?  Virginia is still hanging in there as her entourage traipses through her room, saying their goodbyes and checking out the baby.  I think I'm tearing up a little as Mariano says he couldn't have had a better sister.  Carlos can't help loving the baby.  Babies have that effect on people.  Virginia brings up the soccer team she wanted and the two of them pretend they're watching the baby grow up and how beautiful she is and how Carlos is going to walk her down the aisle and oh for f--they're selling it.  That's the only explanation for my sweaty eyeballs.  Carlos says love only has one name for him: Virginia.  So that's what they'll name the baby.  And then it's over.  Seriously, y'all, they killed off Virginia.

Years later…yes, really, years later...Carlos calls Virginia II down from her room so they can go hang out with her cousins.

Tomorrow: It's YEARS LATER and Lorenza still hates Esme; HatBro is helping Gi get her revenge at last?  QTH, y'all?  Q…T…H?

As the kids say, "I'm having all the feels."

I am devastated that they've killed Virginia. And I'm angry. This is supposed to be a Cinderella tale and dammit I want them to follow the rules. Only the bad guys are allowed to die. And to make matters worse they actually took the time to make it decent so it actually hurts. All the other crap that's happened has been so ridiculous that it can't be taken seriously.

I fear for the next 7 episodes.

Right there with you. The good guys are supposed to be rewarded and the bad guys are supposed to be punished. Virginia deserved a last-minute life saving intervention.

Kat - Thanks so much. There were so many great lines.

I was QTH when HatBro said he was a psychiatrist too.
Do psychatrsits walk around with hats 24/7 in Mexico? I can't believe he found a padded cell so fast. So he wants to help Gi because she's hot and thinks that what they did to her was sin. Ummm....ok.

Who caught the freakimg boquet? They made such a big deal about and then we see nada. Was it like this in Mexico or did Uni cut that part out.

LOL @ Garabato and the "Victor" t-shirt. I suppose that was his way of letting people know what his name is. I can't believe he actuslly got a haircut. That was funny how he stared at that lock of hair that was cut.

I can't believe they killed off Virignia. That was so sad. Poor Carlos. He does have his daughter but still. :(

Oh I kept hoping for a last minute save!!

It just really ticked me off that Ines is still alive and Virginia, who wanted and loved her child, will not get to watch her grow up.

Why?

I added

"Come, let us gather together and suffer, sisters and brothers." -- Alice

to the beginning, as it seemed appropriate for tonight.

Good grief, y'all! What a contrast between the random "Hi there, pretty lady, I'm a psychiatrist, let me help you get the revenge you want" and the really heartfelt goodbyes to Virginia. Consistency, they name is NOT La Gata!

Thanks, Mauricio. Yes to everything you said.

PS in my grief I forgot to officially thank you for your recap.

I dunno, Sara. I'm having a drink, so either things might start making sense or I might start not caring. I feel like this is one of those times when I'm going to wake up in the morning and be all "La, di, da, it's a beautiful day," and then I'll remember they killed off Virginia and sob. I'm only exaggerating a tiny bit.

Thank you for thanking me. I don't know if I deserve it or not. Dang, I'm bummed.

We'll all be here for moral support. I expect we aren't the only ones.

I'm hoping between the title and the quote from Alice people will prepare themselves mentally without feeling like I totally spoiled it. It just didn't feel right to let anyone wander innocently into it.

Jeez, we ALL innocently wandered into this. I've loved Virginia since the beginning.

I hate Ms Latoodle-oo even more today. But not as much as tomorrow.

Oh, gosh no. I have faith in her ability to continue doing worse and worse. Today felt like a gran final episode. Have the wedding, toss the bouquet, cut the cake, and throw the "FIN" up there...but then it went on to days pass, months pass, years pass. Talk about dragging it out! What is it that after years and years Gi and the Hatted Shrink are going to do that couldn't have been done in the "present?" And why do they need seven episodes to do it in? 24 hours from now, I'll know the answer to that, and I have no faith whatsoever that the answer will satisfy me.

And dammit Latoodle-oo wins because there is no way I'm going to miss the next seven days (despite my visceral and palpable hatred) because I'm dying to know what the hell else could happen.

What the ......

Please don't let Pablo's book/movie be titled "Las Aventuras de La Maldita Gata y el Imbecil de Pablo" ... and get the producers get the bright idea to turn it into a ... TAN, TAN, TANNN ... a telenovela!! Hope LaToodle-oo doesn't get the bright idea to make a sequel to La Gata!

I would cringe if I was to receive Lorenza's "blessing" and probably start spewing guacamole and doing the twist with my head! Ugh! Gross, I know, sorry!

Beautiful, generous, kind and intelligent Virginia doesn't even get a wake or a funeral? Why waste time on those stupid flashbacks? They even gave Ughy Augie and Terrible Tilico onscreen funeral time, caramba!

I shake the fist I'm not using to knock back cider in her general direction.

Obviously, if my goal is to stick it out until "the end" then I've got seven days to go. But what, I wonder, is the point? Once they killed off one of the few bright spots on this show, is there anything to look forward to? Comeuppances? I can't even be arsed to care. They're probably all going to suck anyway. Or people will get away with things and not get a comeuppance at all.

I guess I'm here for the Patio Peeps and the snark.

Thank you and condolences, Anon at 10:25. Maybe we're hearing the true story of how La Gata was written.

Naw, not really...Ines Rodena's original story couldn't have been this bad or it wouldn't have been one of the classics. Poor woman must be rolling over in her grave.

Oh well now I'm apoplectic. No funeral or wake? *headslap* I didn't even think about it.

I am I mourning. Virginia deserved a funeral. And an our father and a hail Mary and all the other. Things they do for TN funerals.

That slo-mo kiss blow from Pablo though.

For Virginia, there would have been candles, white roses, lots of crying, a fabulous portrait of her smiling, a beautiful and in-tune rendition of Ave Maria.

Corazon...at the graduation?

What the fuck. No seriously, they killed Virginia? One of the only characters with both a heart and a brain!? Aww hell to the naw!

Oh I had to come back to add "sons of b*tches" to all the writers on that staff. Unbelievable. I'm going to go send angry tweets now.

Pull up a pew and join us for the wake, Eli, and we'll all have a good cry together.

Diva...yes LOL.

I like that Lo had mustered up sympathy for Virginia. Virginia Juniorette is adorable

As for Ines and Garabato, I LMAO'd at him balancing a book on his head and Ines giving birth.

Lol, CorazonSalvaje, there was just that hint of Willy Boy flirtyness.

I'm sure the baby couldn't wait to get away from Ines...one good scream and she was out!

Diva, were you not kidding about him balancing a book on his head? He did that for realz?

I swear on a stack of the screenplays I someday hope to, uh, act and may my hair never know the shine of Maite's if I lie...he really did walk with a book on his head.

Diva--
Pull up a pew, indeed. I was tearing up when Virginia was saying goodbye to everyone, though I, too, thought they were faking us out and she would be okay. The real corker is that, in the flash forward, it looks like little Virginia II is blind also! Oh cr8p!

Thanks Diva, this was an uneven and very emotional episode. From the WTF moments to the truly tragic, and back again. *Sigh*

Now:
Yeah, who caught the boo-kay?

Without a birth certificate or ID, how did Garabato prove to a bunch of attorneys that he was the rightful heir to all that money?

Why didn't we see the results of Garabato/Victor's makeover?

J in Oregon
Still feeling a bit weepy

Here, J...have a hankie. I think you're right about Virginia II, but the scene was too short to be sure. I'm getting all weepy again thinking about how it must have been Carlos to style her hair in those puffs and he's probably overprotective and every time she hits a new milestone, he thinks about Virginia. :(

Yep Diva...the irony...another blind girl with a "degenerative disease" who can never have children. Carlos just had to trade one for another. So frustrating.
A dozen years ago there was a TN called Salome starring Edith Gonzales. One of her sons had a wife with an incurable disease and the doctors told her having a baby would kill her. But she secretly got pregnant anyway to leave part of herself behind in the world.

I feel like the writers played a mean trick on us.

J in O

The only good thing about the years later is that we will FINALLY see Pablito and Leticia as kids. Unless Latoodle made them still be babies. You never know with her. LOL

My frustration levels are at a new high. Missed Monday due to a meeting, dozed off for most of Tuesday's big action, getting back into watching just in time to see Gisela rescued and Virginia dying. And no reveal on who caught Esme's bouquet.

Snorted at Garabato's "Victor" shirt. Also his makeover. And Esme's graduation cap with the very dangling tassel.

The entire Gisela rescue/recovery scenario is one of the most improbable things I've seen in this showcase of improbabilities. She looked ok without makeup, but I'd just as soon see her in flames.

The most delightful couple has to be destroyed and beaten in the crucible of misery?!!? Carlos was so sweet and happy. Virginia was sweet, open, loving. Noooooo! Carlos does seem like a loving father, but it's very unfair.

I say Esme's black sash is her badge for the vein of suffering running through this TN.

But thanks to Eli, Sara, and Diva Kat for our recaps. Gives us a place to dry our tears.

That's a good point about Garabato, with no mother and father around, and without ever getting a legal name (remember, dad died BEFORE, he was born and his mother shortly thereafter) how would he be able to prove who he is?

Good morning everyone. I'm still depressed about Virginia's passing. It just seems so senseless.

Like others, it looked to me like Virginia II was blind. I just hope that when she's older everyone is more forthcoming with her about having children. That's assuming she also has the same disease her mother had.

As for Garabato, Latoodle has worried herself about logic or legalities. I sort of feel like Gar/Vic will still end up with the millions. And I want to see the new and improved version. Hopefully tonight. I'll be jealous of you, Lila!

Wonderfully done Kat, no, not just saying that because I feel I have to.

"That's the only explanation for my sweaty eyeballs"

They killed Virginny because she looked better in a wedding dress than Esmeralda and in Pablo's book Esmeralda is all that.

With Latoddle shit productions, I have frequently wondered, teens must write this stuff, but always leaned toward teen girls. I think it a teen boy and this Pablo kid real and benefits from the nepotism of the Latoddle clan. Warning to dynasties everywhere. When for generations you smell your own arse, it ends up smelling like, arse squared.

"nepotism"

I think this is what is ruining TNs from Televisa.

(tofie - do you mind emailing me? I'm pretty sure there's a link in my profile.)

Dammit! This stupid system ate my comment! (Not that it was all that great.)

Mostly just wanted to thank you 5ft for your continued great treatment of this, your humor, your insight, your perseverance.

David

Diva, thank you. I don't even know what to say. I'm not surprised that "they" let Virginia die. Killed her. As La Paloma said:

The most delightful couple has to be destroyed and beaten in the crucible of misery?!!? Carlos was so sweet and happy. Virginia was sweet, open, loving. Noooooo! Carlos does seem like a loving father, but it's very unfair.

Look. The voice of Lo is the voice of La Toodle-oo. The foul, vicsious, classist, racist rants about the sub-human muerto de hambres and negros, I am convinced, is her voice.

Carlos and Virginia were "destroyed and beaten in the crucible of misery" because this reflects La T00dke-oo's views on race mixing. I don't apologize for sounding hard nor am I trying to be controversial: any controversy is this piss poor excuse for a novela. This shitty production is nothing but a bully pulpit for a person who got the rocks to buy it to spew their f*cked up, twisted views on the human condition. We should have all known it would be so when it was set in a frickin' land fill. Land fill, poor neighborhood, garbage can, what's the diff, they're all maggots anyway.

PLEASE, red flag in bold any production this crew ever has anything to do with.

Is anyone associated with this novela involved with the next one coming up? If so, I'm out!

Oh. Sorry. Thank you Diva for a fantastic job as usual. Yes. I did watch it and your heading was right on!

Thanks, Diva.

No..no..no....I tuned in just in time to see Virginia go the way of all flesh. I cannot believe that they killed off that sweet, goldenhearted girl who endured a childhood with Low and Ughie. QTH ? Sadists.

Well, it's morning here and...yeah, I'm still bummed. Thanks to everyone for joining me in my woe. Woe! I will admit that there's a part of me thinking about the miraculous recovery of Eleazar in DQ, when the doctors had declared him dead and walked out of the room and he was lying there for a full five minutes before he came back...so...maybe? But I doubt it.

Anyway, hankies all around, and let me address some of the specific comments while we all sniffle.

J, they really did screw with us. I guess the consolation is that Carlos is going to be about 10000% nicer to his daughter than Lo was to Virginia I and isn't going to hide her condition from her (assuming she has it as well).

Mauricio, Mr. 5ft, from the one brief look in the previews, said he thought Virginia II looked older than her cousins.

La Paloma, good observation on the sash. Yeah, and "I'm a psychiatrist" was one of the things that had me shouting at the TV. Maybe it was the hat--I thought he was a rancher. Now I'm starting to wonder if Vicky's weirdness was engineered by him.

Eli, I guess that's the power of Fernando's money and regained social status--he can say "Yes, this is their son, and they planned to name him Victor" and make it happen. Maybe there's some distant relative available for a DNA test.

Gracias, tofie. She did look gorgeous *sniff, sniff* Plus she was actually, by her own admission, actually in love. Why can't I come from an established telenovela dynasty? I come from...an education dynasty. Not a lot of great nepotism opportunities there!

David, here is your original comment...

"Thanks, 5ft. you hit all the points with your humor, disbelief and anger. Just wonderful.

I am angry that Virginia had to die, and also that she succumbed to a poorly defined telenovela disease. What major organ system shut down? Why couldn't they have treated her? Maybe they could have called in a witch doctor?

HatBro seems to have turned Gisela into a blow-up sex toy.

Inez sold her baby for a satchel full of money; both mother and daughter win in this deal.

I don't understand why Virginia didn't get a nice sendoff funeral either. Even that jerkwad Augie got a funeral.

Thanks again, 5ft. I love how you handle these episodes.

David"

To which I say thank you, and yeah, why didn't anybody call Rita in? She restored Pablo's soul to his body and cured him of a gunshot wound to the head with nothing more than yerbas, a mud mask, and supplication.

Gracias, Lila. I do think you're on to something there. If what she wanted to say was that love is love and classism and racism are BS and need to go the way of the dodo, then she would have had Virginia and Carlos live happily ever after. I do agree that what she's trying to say is that different kinds of people shouldn't "mix." And I think that's a load of BS and maybe it's contributing to how pissed off I am.

This show was also one of those rare occasions when we've had someone with a disability who wasn't obsessed with getting rid of said disability. Virginia had accepted being blind, wasn't bitter about it, was getting on with her life, but oh let's kill her off. Meanwhile Esme eschews surgery and treats a center for occupational therapy for people with permanent disabilities as her own personal rehab clinic and regains the ability to walk with nothing but sheer force of will. Way to send the message that having a disability is ok for some people, but other people don't deserve it and can overcome it if they just try really, really hard.

And I will admit that I'm probably biased about this, having a chronic illness that currently doesn't have a cure. I'm sick and tired of the propaganda that if I were just positive enough, I could "cure" myself and if I'm still sick, it's just because I don't have the right attitude. Still, I don't think I'm imagining the subtext.

Gracias, susanlynn. I think we're all in shock. She survived her childhood, but was done in by a meaningless and not-at-all-researched plot twist.

Good Morning Everyone!

We saw Eps 112 & 113 last night.

I skimmed through some scenes:

- There was more to the reception than what we saw last night. El Sil says some words. Lo thoughtbubles that she will try to love her grandkids but La Gata's marriage to Pablo is cursed from that moment. She also thoughtbubbles that Augie was right and La Gata and Pablo will NEVER be happy.

- Jarocha catches the boquet. Yay! Detective is happy and goes to hug her.

- Pabs and Esme go to New York. They don't actually show them walking the streets. They just show some shots of New York. I guess there was no budget to actually send them to New York. LOL

- The goodbye scene between Lo and Vrignia was a little longer. Lo asks Virginia for forgiveness and admits to Virginia that she caused her harm. Virgina the good hearted girl she was tells Lo there is nothing to forgive. Virginia wants Lo to love her daughter even though she's not blonde like her. Lo cries. Virginia tells Lo not to cry - she wants Lo to be strong like Lo has always been. Virginia tells Lo that she loves her and will always love her wherever she goes. Lo tells Virginia that she loves her too. VIrginia asks Lo for her blessings and as we saw Lo gave it to her.

- There was a creepy scene with HatBro and Gi that was cut. He wants to cure her.

There was no funeral for Virginia either in the Mex episode. We go straight to years later.

And, you'll notice, both Victor & Esmeralda, of monied stock but grew up in a dump, get the royal makeover, while Damien, of uncertain parentage, never got to balance a book on his head. He can educate himself, become a professional but remain in his caste.

Thanks, Mauricio. Did Virginia actually say this: "Virginia wants Lo to love her daughter even though she's not blonde like her."?

Gracias, Mauricio! I actually agree with the decision to cut the big goodbye between Lo and Virginia. Just another reason Virginia was one of the good guys--she was able to forgive Lo. I would have been barfing through the whole scene. Boo on them for not having any funeral at all, though!

tofie, more thinly veiled classism from LaToodle. Aunque el dump kid se viste de abogado, dump kid se quede. I flip the bird in her general direction.

Anon at 9:08, Mariano sure is good with babies, isn't he! He always looks very natural. We're all a little vulnerable today. Have a hankie and pull up a chair.

well, I flip a bazooka bird in her direction

I had to look that up first...and then I cackled.

Diva, I was wondering how anyone could do a creditable recap of this botched up episode. You really pulled it off, thank you.

On a personal note, I will be in Scottsdale for a few days, (looking for purses at My Sister's Closet and eating at Olive and Ivy), what time does La Gata air in Arizona? I am always confused by the time difference. Don't want to miss a minute of the final week.

I will still meet with all of you on the patio for coffee.

Thank you, emeraldrose! It's on at 6pm local time.

Don't all Murf-ia/Nasty DooDoo novelas start off well-knit but unravel and just plain fall apart by one little loose thread?

I don't know. I have apparently seen some before, but my brain blocked out just how bad they were in order to spare me the pain. Or maybe there's some subliminal messaging in the gran final episodes. I'm going to be like that guy in Memento...tattooing "No More Latoodle" on myself and leaving Post-it notes everywhere.

Thanks for the recap of an awful episode. Awful, beca VA died, and I do believe she got pregnant on purpose bec she didn't look happy about adopting and was too excited when she found out she was preggers.

Awful, bec the forward progress shows that no anvil has fallen on Rita, Lo, Gi or Ines. Though maybe Rita's son dying could be construed as an anvil.

I do hope that the couple Ines sold the baby to was there for Victor. The fact that they were like, "we'll pay whatever you want" seemed too good.

The whole Gi plot is stupid as shite and I can't believe good looking hat dude is into her. I did almost chuck my water when he said he was a psychiatrist. First thought was "of horses?"

Must say I thought Vicky stole the show in that red dress at the wedding. Very stylish.

Mark my words:Nothing good will be shown in the last seven episodes. Do you all remember how stupid the ending of CI was? I expect the same here but worse.

Here’s the Lo and Virginia scene:

Lo and V cried throughout the whole scene.

V : Even if you aren’t my mother you are my aunt and I inherited many things from you. The tenacity mama. Despite you always being against it..and this isn’t a criticism...I married the love of my life.

Lo : Hija. No more. No more.

V : No mama. Don’t cry. Be strong like you have always been. This is the best day of my life. Look mama - my daughter was born. And even if she isn’t blond like me I ask you not to hate her.

Lo : Even in these desolate moments you are …. (she mumbled something I couldn’t catch - I think she says “you are Virginia”)

V : I can leave in peace. I can leave in peace because I never hated anyone. I always had love for everyone. I love you mama. I love you a lot despite how difficult our relationship was. I will always love you. I always admired you for your strength and for how you protected your values even if I didn’t agree with them.

Lo : Forgive me. Forgive me please. Forgive me.

V : There is nothing to forgive. Because forgiving is to accept that at one point there was resentment.

Lo : I caused you a lot of harm.

V : All you did was out of love. And what could have hurt me before I now have forgotten. I will always love you wherever I go.

Lo: And I will always love you. Always.

V: Your blessing mama.

Lo gives V her blessing.

Lo: May God bless you hija.

Lo kisses V.

And another thing, selling your baby has got to be illegal, no? I mean I understand giving it up for adoption, but asking for money seems like it would be illegal.

It is illegal. The briefcase full of money made me LOL. She sold the baby for 2 millon pesos I believe.

Thank you, Mauricio. Hmph! Not on Virginia but on you know who.

I still can't get over HatBro being a psychiatrist. I bet he completed his studies at DeVry University. Or worse he took online classes like Esme.

Gracias, Carvivlie...lol, yeah, I'd totally belive he's a horse whisperer :D Let's see how he does with a cow.

I have a hard time believing that Virginia I could have gotten pregnant on purpose, only because I can't figure out HOW she would have done it. I remember they didn't go to the doctor until after the wedding, so did they just...not bother with contraception until after the honeymoon? In which case, Carlos especially needed to take some responsibility for it. Once she was pregnant, though, yes, absolutely, the decision to carry to term was 100% her decision and she sweetly but stubbornly forced everyone to go along with it.

Eli, I'm sure you're right. It feels pretty pointless, but what the hell. There's always booze.

Mauricio, thanks for the transcript. She really was too good for her own good.

Eli and Mauricio, yep...2 Million pesos. But if she "sold" the baby to Garabato, he's never going to press charges. And she can't accuse him of having bought his own baby.

Maybe he got his medical degree from the same place gringo and David were going to get their physical therapy degrees.

Text messages between LaTurd-loo and Mess-jia during filming of these last scenes:

Mess: Hey, how's it going, Babe?
La: Hmm, OK, I guess, but we're getting ready to film tomorrow's episode and the alien ship I ordered to KIDNAP Gisela and take her to her own kind hasn't arrived.
Mess: No biggie, just throw in anything else, like we always do. You know we're good at that.
La: LOL, yeah, I know. And the idiots fall for it every time!
Mess: LATSATWTTB!!!
La: ??
Mess: Laughing at the Suckers All The Way to the Bank!
La: Word!
La: So anyway, this just popped in my head - what if I had a hunky psychiatrist, evil, of course, come out of nowhere to help Gisela wreak havoc? I still have a few episodes to fill.
Mess: That might work, but haven't you reached your quota of Dumber-than-a-brick hunks for this one yet? You know, we gots to stick to our formula for success, especially for our FANS in Mejico.
La: Yah, but don't forget, this is also going to air en los yoo-nai-tets, what about those fans? I'm hearing rumors that they like things that make sense.
Mess: Who cares about them?
La: True... all right, I'll do it, but damn my dumbest hunk is the lead here ... hey, what if I use him anyway? I'll just pull the Long-Lost-Evil-Twin-That-Nobody-Knew-About-And-Now-He's-Back-For-Venganza card out of the "Scenarios" Barrel!
Mess: You still have stuff left in your Scenarios Barrel?
La: Almost down to the bottom, but, Yup! So anyway, let's see ... oh, no!
Mess: What?
La: My Evil Twin scenario is missing! Oh, snap! Now I remember, I sent it out for editing and it's not back yet!
Mess: Why would you do that? We never change a tried and true scenario!
La: Sorr-rry! Just wanted to update mine a little, you know, for the fans.
Mess: DUH! Like I said before, who cares about them?
La: You're right, as usual! Anyway, I don't think I have any extra dumb hunks hanging around, and no time to contract one, got any you're not using?
Mess: Sure, mi amor, I'm on set, but I have one hanging around waiting for his scene to come up, but we won't get to it until tomorrow. You can use him today. He's in wardrobe and everything. I'll send him right over.
La: He's in wardrobe to play a hunky psychiatrist?
Mess: Who cares?

And as far as the mystery disease and its death sentence...

Why would the doctors not just suggest a tubal ligation? They recommended an unspecified method of birth control--my impression was that she'd been given a prescription for a hormonal birth control pill. Those are great, but not 100% effective for all women all the time. Why take the risk?

Great...so now I'm blaming the doctors and not the writers.

Carvivlie--that's the only way I could see her getting pregnant "on purpose" is if it happened after that visit to the doctor, if she pretended to take the pills and lied about it. That would still take some something-I-don't-have-a-word-for on Carlos' part. Not negligence, exactly, maybe more like...a lack of paranoia? He has no reason not to trust her if she says she's taking them, but when we're talking life and death...I would think he'd want to make sure she was taking them at the same time every day, didn't grab the wrong thing out of the medicine cabinet, etc. just for his own peace of mind.

Anon at 11:52 it's funny cause it's true. Or at least, that sounds way more plausible than a lot of the stuff on this show!

Anon11:52- That's some funny stuff!! And sadly probably close to the truth!

Since there was trouble in paradise yesterday, I went back and reread all of the comments. It looks like the war has ended and we are all back on the patio in peace and harmony.

Thank you for your hard work Diva
on bringing the recap to us.

A lot of comments from me today but first from yesterday---Bryan
So G is going to burn down a brick/stone church and kill all who are inside. Bricks don't burn and churches have back doors. Good point Bryan but this is a novela written by Ms. Latoodle-oo

Today---Eli, I cursed out Univision in an email yesterday so give um hell in your tweets today I say.

J---What? You want a birth certificate or ID? Are those things required?

Right, the tassel's string was way too long on Esme's graduation
cap. Is there a director on the La Gata set?

I have never seen a black sash on a wedding dress. I wonder who came up with that and why?

Thank again for your fill in's Mauricio, they're very helpful.

Ok---Now for today's main topic of discussion. Virginia--why did they kill off Virginia? I don't know why but like everyone else, she was one of my favorite characters. She was such a sweet and loving person. How she turned out that way having parents like Lowrenza and Augie brings up another I don't know from me. Life is sometimes strange. Bad parents wonderful child or children. Go figure. I loved the Virginia that was presented to us
the exact opposite of hard, angry,
hate filled Ines who doesn't even bat an eye while hurting others and yet Ines lives and Virginia dies. I once heard a minister preach a sermon entitled "Life Isn't Fair." No it sure isn't but no one promised us that it would be. This doesn't follow telenovela
rules. Well maybe for once, in this little part of the story, they made it real. That bastard Augie got a funeral, Virginia should have gotten one. Tweet that
Eli. Maybe they cut or left out a funeral for Virginia because it would have been too sad.

I didn't notice a blind Virginia II. Will pay close attention tonight.

So it looks like we are in for one last assault on Esme and Pablo from G. Maybe with the team of G and Lo before all fin.
the gringo

I loved it Anon11:52. Thanks!

That pretty much how the whole story was written I bet.

anon 1:52 so funny

Gracias gringo! One last assault that lasts seven whole episodes...I don't know if I can take it!

UGH! They should have killed Ines, burned Gisela, locked up Lorenza, given Virginia a miracle cure and end with the wedding ... y ... FIN!

Ya basta, stop beating this perro muerto with a stick!

Anon at 12:38, I could back that. Check back with me in a week and a half. I'll probably be hating myself for watching the last seven episodes.

Yeah, gringo, little Virginia Jr. is blind, too. This is prolly LaDooDoobutt's visiting the sins of the parents on the children.

Anon @11:52, that s*it is funny as hell! Summarizes our probably true speculations on how this crap is shat out each day!

Why does Hatbro even wanna help G? He doesn't know her from a hole in the ground. Ugh so stupid!

Because Monika Sanchez has a very good agent?

Oh, you meant a real reason. Nope. I've got nothing.

Eli: Because she's HOTTTTT! Really, that's the only thing the idiot writers could come up with! Crapola!

Eau de antagonista?

I wonder what Eau de Antagonista smells like. Gasoline and desperation, with just a hint of cow dung.

Whatever it is, Hat Bro likes it!

Tell ya, a psychiatrist was the last thing I thought of when I saw hatbro. He's some famous guy but never though him Dr. Phil or Dr. Ruth, more like he was an actor, or Country singer or tech wiz kid with a penchant for cowboy duds.

And to be able to spot "hot" right away in some homeless, stanky, skanky, ranting chick with a bic, must take xray vision.

Maybe that's his definition of hot.

Which doesn't explain why he's single, cause you can't swing a string of oversized Target clearance beads without hitting crazy on these shows.

Have we ever had a show with no crazy?

"cause you can't swing a string of oversized Target clearance beads without hitting crazy on these shows" Heeeeeeee

WTF, WTF. WTF. Why is this tn running exactly the opposite direction? Everybody is being forgiven, everybody is forgiving but I want the venganzas!!! What, Gisela might be cured of her bipolar insanity and thus fall in love with that doctor and her numerous crimes totally forgotten? with last minute episodes coming, why cant she burn herself to hell and go out with a bang. I want justice not forgiveness.
And about Lo, again being forgiven. Why is her hatred towards La Gata, Esme I mean, not towards Fela/Blanca if she really thinks she has the hots for Sil unless (horrors) she has a subconscious illicit desire for her son, Pablo. Damn her to hell I say, cuz she is evil and will never change.
Sara, keep on with your recap. You are not influencing at least
(me). I really hate this writing and tn with or without your recaps. I love everybody's contribution here tho sometimes I don't contribute. I have a good time just reading them and sometimes its too late for me to respond or give my two cents. Anne

We're nearly there, Anne. I don't know where "there" is or how painful it's going to be to get there, but we're nearly there!

I want venganzas too!

Hey Gata Peeps! Vivi, reporting in from South Carolina. I've read the recap. I've read the comments. And I still don't understand WTF is going on. Virginia is dead?!!? There's a time jump?!!? There is still over a week of this tn to go?!!? Que?

And darn it, I missed Esme's wedding dress. That's why I intended to watch the last week of this tn. I guess I'll have to hunt down the episode(s).

As for Latoodle, I learned my lesson from CI. I knew what this was going to be. I had seen bits of Cuidado con el Angel. I saw bits of Mar de Amor. Latoodle and her husband represent all that is bad about tns. That is blatantly clear. in fact, I think if we thought about the tns that annoyed us the most in the last few years, the tns that give tns a bad name, they would almost all be Latoodle and Mejia productions. So I say don't tar all Televisa tns with the same brush. Just know that when you watch a production with the name Mejia or Latoodle attached to it, you're going to get cliches or just plain old crap. Both can be fun at times (hey, I enjoyed La Tempestad and know plenty of people enjoyed CCEA), but just go in with your eyes open.

Hi Vivi! I think I've learned my lesson this time. As long as I don't forget :) I share your confusion. I definitely don't get what they're doing or why this is necessary.

On the bright side, it doesn't seem that Mejia and Latoodle have any kids in the business. Can you imagine if they had an untalented son or daughter who wanted to be an actor?

I think my heart just stopped at that idea!

From what I gather, Osorio is also starting to ruin the genre.

And I know this is heresy, but I will never watch a Angelli Nesma Medina production again. AdP was enough for me.

The name escapes me but the producer of La Malquerida is consistently good.

Lucero Suarez also doesn't disappoint nor does Rosy Ocampo.

Tidbit-Lucero Suarez was on the Cuna de Lobos crew.

Mejia and Latoodle attached to such classics as Maria Mercedes and Rosalinda.

Hmm.

Sara:

The producer of La Malquerida was Jose Alberto Castro "El Guero Castro".

Angelli Nesma produced Al Diablo Con Los Guapos, which is so far (and probably only because this one isn't done yet) the worst, most ridiculous FIN I've seen. She apparently also was responsible for Amar Sin Limites which also had a very lackluster ended, once the damn thing finally ended. That was also the one that introduced me to Monika Sanchez as the stereotypical "he must be mine" crazy lady.

Thank you Mauricio! All I could remember was El Güero and I wasn't sure if that was it.

I can't stand the fin of Al diablo.

Kat that's an issue I had with AdP- a lackluster fin. Not to mention Boyer.

Angelli Nesma also produced Por Un Beso which was also a remake of the original La Gata.

Oh my gourd....

Could it be we are being subjected to a 7 day ADCLG-esque fin?

It's like they keep going back to these old original scripts because the recognize how great they were...but then they mess them up. So how about cultivating new talent instead? And telling stories that are relevant today and make sense today? It's like they don't want to risk it by messing with a sure thing...but then they mess with a sure thing anyway. Frustrating!

I just recently saw a comment on another TN blog and they were saying much the same. They remake everything and don't improve and in fact make it worse.

I just read this on the Ines Rodena fan page on Facebook. Someone posted to the page saying that La Gata was more like La Fiera or Por Un Beso. The page admin responded (I'm translating):

La Gata is an original story, actually the first one written by Ines Rodena. La Fiera and Por Un Beso are versions of La Gata. Rosa Salvaje is a remake that they made by putting together parts of La Gata and La Indomable (inventions of Televisa). It wouldn't surprise me that in this version of La Gata they've used parts of all those novelas. All in all, what an "arroz con mango" ("rice with mango", in other words...a hot mess!) very typical of Natalie Lartilleux who has the "magic" of ruining all novelas (lately she is given to ruining Inesita's).

Oh thank you for reminding me about arroz con mango. I love that expression. Now I'm off to look up that Facebook page :)

Oh, but I love mango sticky rice, so that saying just makes me hungry. Yum! :)

Lol, Vivi! I wonder if you can get some in South Carolina?

Thanks Kat for the info.

Here's the facebook page:

I was previously oblivious to all the different producers of TNs...actually I signed on to La Gata because of...the cat.
Principeeeeeee, where are you???

J in Oregon

Pobre de J! Talk about a bait-and-switch.
