Pasión y Poder, Gran Final, Part 2: Ep. 136, Thursday, April 28, 2016 Lies, Betrayal, Anvils Fall, & A Reconciliation (Finally!)
Here we go...
At GLA, Regina visits David in his office. Regina tells him that she found out that he is going to Australia. He confirms that he is, but didn’t think she cared. She has something that she wants to tell him, but he tells her that now is not a good time. They are having problems at the office. She understands that he doesn’t want to speak with her, it’s just that, well, umm… (but she doesn’t tell him what she came to tell him, instead she turns around and rushes out of the office, as if she’s got the runs). David starts to chase after her, but the doofus heads back into his office when his cell phone rings, instead of chasing after the woman he supposedly loves, because really, it was obvious what she came to tell him, and yet he let her get away. [Whatever]
Anyway, David doesn’t get a chance to even speak to whoever called him, because at that moment, security enters and lets him know that per Franco’s orders, he’ll have to hand over his name tag and abandon the premises. David refuses and tells the security guys that they can’t kick him out. Oh, but they can, at least that’s what Franco thinks. David tells Franco that the board meeting isn’t until the afternoon, so until then, they have no idea what will happen. But Franco is confident that the board members will back him up, after all he is the major shareholder of GLA now. David points out that they’ll have to see just how much longer Franco will be the major shareholder. Franco has heard enough and he orders security to get that imbecile out of there. Security obeys and they begin to approach David. But David asks them not to touch him (“no me toquen”) and lets them know that he knows the way out. He takes off his name tag, throws it on the desk, and leaves the office with his head held high. Franco smirks.
Over at Julia’s small, but independent apartment, Arturo arrives and wants to take her out for breakfast at IHOP where they can talk about her “dream home” and their plans together. Julia tells him she can’t go. Her dad hasn’t fully recovered yet, and also Eladio is having some problems down at the office. She explains that Franco has taken over GLA and has obtained more shares than Eladio. Arturo laughs at this. Oh, how he would have loved to have seen the look on Eladio’s face when it all went down. Julia gets pouty at him, and doesn’t see where the humor is in all of this. Arturo, however, does see the humor, and explains. He sees Franco betraying his father the same way that Erick betrayed him (and with Eladio’s help). Julia informs him that she’ll be backing up Eladio in this situation. Arturo tells her that he won’t allow it. “You know perfectly well that Eladio is my enemy” he tells her. But Julia explains that this is about David’s patrimony. And if he won’t allow it, then their relationship is over.
Meanwhile, Eladio is visiting Humberto in his room, and can’t believe that the rat bastard has so much luck despite the bad that he does. Humberto knows that Eladio came to see him so he could see Julia. Eladio tells Humberto that if he hasn’t already taken his oxygen tank from him, it’s all thanks to Julia. Humberto tells Eladio that Arturo will always be better than him, because Arturo includes the father in law in his plans, unlike Eladio. Then Humberto tries to stick it to Eladio, by telling him about Arturo’s plans to build Julia her “dream home”.
Arturo tells Julia that she can’t do this to him, she can’t do this to them. How does she expect for him to react when she prefers backing up Eladio after what Eladio did to her, instead of forming a couple with him (Arturo). Julia is sorry, but it’s her son’s patrimony, and she won’t turn her back on Eladio. With the shares Eladio gave her she could help him. Arturo tells Julia that if Eladio gave her those shares it was because he didn’t want to lose her. There was an interest behind it. Julia explains that she won’t let an injustice occur and that she’d the same for him. Arturo doesn't believe that Julia would do the same for him. “Then if you don’t believe me, we have nothing to talk about” she tells him. He agrees. He’ll leave before he says something stupid [not that he didn’t already]. He heads towards the door and before heading out he tells her that he loves her and to do what she has to do. He leaves.
Humberto continues using the “dream home” to stick it to Eladio. But Eladio doesn’t take the bait and he tells Humberto that he’s happy for Julia, because she deserves the best. At that moment, Julia enters, with a glass of water and her father’s meds. Eladio immediately senses that something is wrong with Julia. She explains that she and Arturo got into an argument because she’ll be backing him (Eladio) up. Humberto remarks that she and Arturo have always gotten along so well, so he’s sure that they’ll reconcile soon. Eladio then reminds Humberto how he used tell him that he’d be on Team I’ll Hate Arturo’s Guts Forever as long as he provided him with booze, cigarettes, and luxury. Julia is shocked to learn this. Humberto, the sly dog that he is, fakes an attack, and Julia rushes out to get his nurse. Now alone, Eladio tells Humberto to cut the act, and threatens him. If he confirms that Humberto has been playing with him and Arturo then Humberto will pay and dearly, because he does NOT forgive a betrayal.
Over at GLA, Franco desperately searches for some papers, but can’t seem to them anywhere. Ha!
At Casa Gomez Luna, we find out that David has those papers that Franco is so desperately searching for. Oh, and we also find out that Justino FINALLY served a purpose in this story because he’s the one who got those papers out of GLA. Eladio and David will use those papers to prove that Franco embezzled GLA to buy the shares. Eladio lets David know that the guy who mathematically organized the leak of money from the company is now on their side,
Over at Casa Montenegro, Jorge is waiting for Regina in the foyer. He’s sporting a pink shirt and still hasn’t learned to button it up all the way. [I guess he wants to give Regina one last chance to take a look at the “goods” before she decides whether to dump him for good or not] Anyway, Regina shows up, and Jorge thanks her for seeing him, after he behaved like such a putz the previous day. Regina knows she had it well deserved and thinks he had every right to behave like such a putz. Jorge couldn’t sleep thinking about what happened, and he tells Regina that he has realized that he can’t force her to be with him. He reminds her that he promised to make her happy, and he knows that for that to happen, he’ll have to let her go. She thanks him and hopes that one day he can forgive him. He tells her that he already has. She asks him what he’ll do now. He tells her that he wants to go to
At Casa Gomez Luna, David and Eladio are off to the board meeting. Julia will meet them there. David is glad to see that Julia is backing him up. Eladio didn’t expect for Julia to back him up, and knows that it must be hard for her, since she and Arturo got into an argument over this.
Hmm, for some reason Univision left out this scene, but I’ll go ahead and let you know what happened. Arturo and Agustin are at GM. Arturo tells Agustin that Julia should have let Eladio crash and burn. Agustin doesn’t side with his pal on this one, he sides with Julia. Agustin doesn’t think there is anything admirable about finishing off what has already fallen. Then he points out to Arturo that now he’ll have Franco as an enemy. Arturo’s not shaking in his dress shoes over that, he thinks Franco is an imbecile, who doesn’t know what he’s doing. Agustin tells Arturo to not be so sure, at least with Eladio the competition was upfront, but Franco is a backstabber. Arturo shrugs that comment off, and is still not worried about it, it seems. Changing the subject, and in a matter of factly way, Agustin lets Arturo know that Erick has been transferred over to the prison.
At the prison yard, Erick is sporting a nice arm brace, and gets welcomed by a guy who I’ll call “Bubba” and the other inmates. "Bubba" sees Erick as fresh meat and calls him "princess". Then "Bubba" and the other inmates start playing a game I like to call "Pass The Chimp". They start shoving Erick amongst each other, and hurt the boo boo that Erick has in his shoulder.
At the board meeting, Rueda recaps what happened the last time, and Franco sits and listens with glee a the recap. Franco starts mouthing off about redecorating Eladio’s office. At that moment, Gaby makes her [not] so grand entrance at the board meeting. She tells Eladio he must hear what’s on this USB and also hands him some papers that he has to look over. David puts the USB into the computer.
Back at the prison yard, Erick has apparently fallen (at least that’s what “Bubba” claims happened), and now he can’t get up. He has blood on his lower face and he cries for help. The guards come to pick him up. “Bubba” tells Erick that this is so he can get used to it. “Bubba” also comments on Erick not knowing yet where he’ll sleep. Another inmate chimes in that Erick doesn’t know whom he’ll be sleeping with either (as he points to himself). Erick is taken away by the guards still crying like a baby. (Okay, so if you are in prison, I don’t think you want to cry like a baby, it just doesn’t look good. Just sayin’)
Back at the board meeting, the smirk on Franco’s face has disappeared, as everyone listens to the audio recording where it’s revealed that Franco was more than willing to sell GLA corporate info over to the competition. David points out that Franco (who wants to be president) was willing to not only to betray Eladio, but also the interests of the company. Franco claims that what is on the audio recording has been rigged.
At Casa Montenegro, Nina tells Regina and Miguel that she’s worried about Erick. Prison is worse than the city jail. Arturo shows up, and he’s worried about Erick also, but says that there is nothing that they can do. Nina wants to send Erick money for “protection” but Arturo tells her “no”. Erick has to pay for what he has done.
Back at the board meeting, Franco’s five minutes of fame have ended. Eladio points out that Franco cannot be trusted. And if that weren’t enough, Gaby has just signed off her GLA shares over to him. Franco is really pissed off now, and he says that can’t be, because Gaby didn’t have shares when they got married, and he never gave her the money from her factory. David chimes in and points out that they’ve all just been a witness to Franco’s confession and fraud. Gaby accuses Franco of having sold her factory behind her back, and says that she doesn’t think the board members want a thief for a president. Eladio then reminds Franco what he told him about not knowing who his dad is. Then he sticks it to Franco, basically rubbing in Franco’s face, that his stint as the GLA president only lasted.. uh, almost a day. Franco has stopped being the president of GLA, because Eladio has the most shares now.
Arturo makes Nina see that they made a mistake with Erick by overprotecting him and solving his problems. Because of that Erick never matured and is NOT a real man. Nina nods her head in agreement. Just then, Agustin and Consuelo arrive, and Consuelo lets the family know that she was called down to the station to testify and she had to say what happened. Arturo tells her not to worry about, she’s not to blame, the only one to blame for what happens to Erick, is Erick himself.
Back at the board meeting, Franco is boiling mad, and demands to know where Gaby got her hands on those GLA shares. She reminds him of when he [stupidly] put up some of his shares for sell [to buy a car] and lets him know that Agustin bought them and gave them to her. Then she sticks to him, asking him, what it feels like to betrayed.
At home, Humberto calls up his BFF Arturo, to explain that if Julia is backing up Eladio it’s because of David’s patrimony. Arturo ses this differently- if she loved him, then she wouldn’t have backed up Eladio. Humberto tries to convince Arturo to not think like that and offers his help. But Arturo knows that Julia doesn’t love him. Plus, he doesn’t think that Humberto can help. He asks the old man NOT to call him again. Ha!
Back at the board meeting, Eladio suggests to the board that they expel Franco from GLA and press charges for fraud and breach of confidence. Then it happens.. Franco loses it, and he climbs on top of the conference table, and does some crawling, probably heading towards Eladio. But David stops him before he can get too far, gets him off the table, and punches the living daylights out of him. David holds Franco back, and Franco shouts at Gaby that he did love her, in his way, but he did. He accuses Gaby of having betrayed him and she shouts back that she did and in the same shameless way that he betrayed her as well. Julia has had enough and tries to shut him up. Then Franco reveals that Gaby already knew that he was Eladio’s spawn. Julia can’t believe what she’s hearing. David eventually takes out the trash (Franco) from the conference room. Now Julia looks accusingly at Gaby.
Filler alert, everyone. It’s now night time and Regina is in her room with Petra. Regina doesn’t think she’ll ever get married. Petra points out that she thought the same (about not getting married), and now she’s about to give Obdulio a “yes”. Ooh, Regina wants the scoop on that. FF →
At Julia’s small but independent apartment, Julia confronts Gaby over her knowing that Franco was Eladio’s spawn and not telling her. Gaby accepts that she knew and apologizes for not telling her. Julia feels betrayed, and can’t believe that Gaby did this. She asks Gaby to leave because she doesn’t want to see her face. When Gaby doesn’t leave, Julia walks out of the room.
David and Eladio talk about Franco being locked up. The Rivera Maya audit was enough to file a report against Franco. David knows that this hurts Eladio. Eladio says that this is what he didn’t want to happen and now it did. He thought that Franco could change and become a better man but was mistaken. Now his mission in life will be to make sure that David and Julia are happy. Changing the subject, they talk about Regina, and David mentions being cold with her when she came over before. He doesn’t know what to do, he wants to avoid another scene, where he tells her that he loves her and she tells him that she’s getting married [The Patio wants to avoid a scene like that too]. Eladio advises David to go and listen to what Regina had to say. Work can wait, David’s happiness should come first. David leaves to do just that.
Hmm, another scene cut. What’s going, Univision? This is what happened: Gaby visits Agustin at his apartment and thanks him for giving her his shares, even though it will make Arturo go through the roof. Agustin says that
Back at the small and independent apartment, someone is knocking on the door. Julia looks through the peephole and the fool opens the door even though she can see that it is Franco. [QTH, the guy totally lost it at the board meeting, and he could have come with a weapon, for crying out loud] Anyway, Franco has come to let Julia know that he’s not the only one who betrayed her. There are others who did as well. For starters, that rat bastard you have for a father was in cahoots with Arturo, and set up the Las Vegas trip. Secondly, Eladio always knew about my love child with Marinita, he tells her. Julia is shocked to hear this.
At Casa Montenegro, David has come to see Regina. Petra lets him know that this is his last chance to not let Regina go. Regina arrives and Petra leaves. David apologizes for his behavior from before and thanks her for coming over to say goodbye to him (since he’s going to Australia). He wishes her the best in her marriage with Jorge. Regina tries to tell him the real reason she went to see him.. but David the doofus interrupts and doesn’t let her. He’s got things to say. David says that he laments having gone out with Daniela, and although he didn’t love Daniela like Daniela would have liked, Daniela was still important to him, and he never wanted to hurt her (Regina). Regina knows and is grateful that he made Daniela happy. She finally gets a chance to let him know that if she went to see him at his office it was so she could tell him that she dumped Jorge. The doofus looks puzzled and asks her why she did it. [Because she loves you, you fool!] Regina tells him that she did it because she loves him. And the fool then asks her what that means. [Really, David?] She tells him that she wants to be with him. He tells her that he waited so long to hear that.. but.. “But what?” Regina asks. “Don’t you love me anymore?” she asks him.
Julia doesn’t believe Franco and thinks he is badmouthing her dad and Eladio because she backed up Eladio at the board meeting. But Franco convinces her that he is telling the truth and tells her that Eladio’s life is full of lies. Then he grabs her by the arm and with crazy eyes tells her that there is something more she must know.
David tells Regina that he hasn’t stopped loving her, but as she once said, love is NOT enough. Regina looks disappointed- obviously, this wasn’t the reaction she expected, and honestly I’m disappointed too, because we are being tortured with these scenes even in the finale, when they could just kiss and makeup already, so we can move on. There are other more important things to cover. It is the finale after all. Sheesh. Rant over. David explains that as much as they love each other they’ve hurt each other and made bad decisions. Regina asks him if he’s saying that because of Daniela. He tells her that he’s also saying it because of Jorge- she was going to marry someone she didn’t love, only because she didn’t want to face the fact that they had to fight for their love. She tells him that, that is what she is doing now, she wants to show him what she’s capable of doing for their love. He tells her that he wishes he could believe her, but he doesn’t know how they’d be happy. He excuses himself and then he leaves.
Franco tells Julia that Humberto told Arturo that he (Franco) was Eladio’s bastard child. He points out that Humberto knew and told Arturo instead of telling her so she could break up with Eladio. Julia finally kicks Franco out of her home. At that moment, we hear the voice of the old man as he rolls into the living room and kicks Franco out too. Franco leaves. Then Julia confronts her rat bastard father. Of course, Humberto denies it. But Julia can see that he hasn’t changed. What he did was despicable. She tells him that she wants him out of her small but independent apartment.
Hmm, again another scene cut. Not much happened, though. Basically, Regina tells Nina that she wants David to believe that she will fight for their love. She accepts that she ruined the relationship when she broke up with him while for him their relationship always came first. Regina wants to follow the lesson that Daniela taught her before she died and fight for her love for David. Nina and Regina embrace.
Again, another scene cut. In this one Julia tells Humberto that she doesn’t know where he’ll go, nor does she think she should care. He apologizes and tells her that everything he has done has always been for her own good. She accuses him of always having sold her to the highest bidder. Supposedly, he is supposed to protect her. He says that has protected her because she’s a queen and deserves the best. She tells him that she thought that he changed, but can see that he is worse. He apologizes and wants a second chance. But Julia can’t give it to him, everyone has betrayed her. It’s over. She leaves the room. Now alone, Humberto calls up Arturo to let him know that Julia found out that they were in cahoots. He asks Arturo for help, but Arturo refuses to give his help to the old man. Arturo will accept the consequences of his actions, and thinks that Humberto should do the same.
Julia arrives at the GL mansion. Eladio thanks for her for helping him out with the whole Franco takeover. Julia begins to tell him off over his lies- she knows now that he always knew about Franco’s love child with Marintia. He accepts that he did, and says that if he kept, it was because he thought that Franco should solve his own problems. He also didn’t want to hurt Gaby. Then he confesses another lie he told - nothing happened between Nina and me.
At the prison, Eick and the other inmates are at the workshop. Erick meets up with Ashmore and “Bubba”. Ashmore wants to do business with Erick and tells him that he’ll have to pay for protection. Erick says that he has no money. Then Ashmore, “Bubba”, and the other inmates, begin to torture Erick by threatening to literally cut off his hand. Ashmore decides they’ll have some “mercy” on Erick and instead they’ll cut off some fingers. Two fingers to be exact. They get out the tool to do the cutting and "Bubba" puts it on Erick's finger. Erick screams and cries.
Back at the GL mansion, Julia accuses Eladio of doing the same thing over again, by hiding his grandson. Eladio explains that Franco had to solve his own problems, and he told me that he didn’t want to lose Gaby. Julia can’t believe it- everyone is the same- she just found out her dad and Arturo were in cahoots to separate them. [Oh snap. The old man better watch on. Crazy Eladio is now after him] Julia goes on about everyone lying to her. Eladio accepts that he made a bad decision. Julia wants to know what his justification is over making Gaby his accomplice in hiding the truth about Franco’s origin. Eladio explains that he wanted to do what was right, they were happy, and he didn’t want to lose her. Julia points out that they lived a lie. Their happiness was based on a lie. Eladio asks her what are talking about. The Caridad thing again? Again the past? That happened long ago. He reminds her that she despised him back then and rejected him. “And why did I despise you?” she asks him. He gets it and knows they got off to a rough start. But then things changed. She asks him how many more lies there is and he replies that there are no more lies. She doesn’t believe him. She thinks that all he cares about is competition, power, and money. He tells her that none of that matters, she’s the only one who does. She tells him that she wants nothing to do with him.
Another scene cut. This one I get. It was rather gruesome. Here’s what happend: back at the prison, “Bubba” cuts off two of Erick’s fingers on Ashmore’s order. Erick falls to the ground, and crying out “my hand, my hand”.
OMG. Julia is STILL going on about the lies that Eladio has told her. Her whole life has been a lie. Yada, yada, we get it. Eladio gets exasperated with her and yells THAT THERE ARE NO MORE LIES. But she doesn’t trust in anyone anymore, and thinks that the best thing is for her is to be alone. She leaves.
Franco is desperate and and needs money. He mentions that he needs to do something and about leaving for another country. Caridad is with him and she thinks he should fix things with Eladio so he doesn’t get locked up. But Franco is in no mood to hear a lecture, he sees her wallet, takes out some money, and heads for the door. Caridad reminds him that he has a son, but Franco tells her that he can’t go fleeing with a baby in arms. He tells Caridad that now is her chance to raise a child [Uh-oh. Poor Mateo] and tells her to let the abuelo take care of Mateo. He leaves.
Julia is still mad at Gaby. David is there too as a peer mediator, I guess. Eventually, Julia forgives Gaby. And all is well between them. [Okay, now we can move on from that.]
Oh, goodie, anvil time. Eladio confronts Humberto over his betrayal. He realizes that the old man going quickly would be a gift for him, so instead Humberto will have to face purgatory. Humberto the sly dog tries to charm Eladio, but it’s no use. Humberto tells Eladio that Julia kicked him out. Oh, goodie, Eladio will help Julia out then. He’ll help her out by taking out the trash, and when I say trash I mean Humberto. Eladio takes the watch (that Julia gave Eladio and that Eladio gave Humberto) from him and tells him that now he’ll be his worst nightmare. They will be going to a place, a place where people are waiting for him, and where everyday Humberto will remember all the bad that he has done. Then Eladio takes out the trash, or rolls it out, in this case.
At the prison infirmary, Erick’s hand has been bandaged up, and he’s crying to his parents over what Ashmore did to his hand. Arturo eventually gives him some money to pay for protection, but he’s not doing it for Erick, he’s doing it so Nina won’t suffer. Erick thanks his dad, and says that if he hadn’t given him the money, then they probably would kill him, and he wouldn’t want his dad to be to blame for the death of two of his kids. Arturo looks at his son and realizes that not even being locked up has changed him.
Another scene cut: Simona tells Julia what went down between Eladio and Humberto. Eladio has taken Humberto to a retirement home near the hospital. Julia wants to go and get her dad, knowing that the retirement home is a bad one, but Gaby convinces her not to.
Anther one cut: Humberto is at the retirement home and tries to sell those bad shares that Arturo gave him. And that’s when he finds out that the shares are worth nothing. Ha! The old man curses who he once saw as a BFF. A BFF that could give him things, of course. There was another scene cut, where Humberto gets taken to therapy, despite not wanting to go.
At some cheap motel, Pedro is see fawning over some gal on a newspaper. Pig. The cops show up and arrest him and he agrees to rat out Franco and Erick in exhcange for a lower prison term.
At her small and independent apartment, Julia confronts Arturo over being in cahoots with Humberto. He tells her that if she loved him she would understand. He did it because he was desperate and Humberto was his only ally. She thinks she was treated like a toy and accuses him of manipulating her. Now she gets why he was always at the right place to console her. He says that he was there because he loves her. She asks him how he knew about Farnco’s origin and Arturo replies that he knew because Humberto told him. And he wanted her to know that Eladio was lying to her. Julia can’t with all this, she feels betrayed. He tells her that he’d do anything for her, he doesn’t want to lose her again. She tells him that you can’t lose what you don’t have. He tells her that he loves her, but he can see that she does not love him back.
Regina now shows up at David’s doorstep. She goes into this long monologue where she tells him that she thought distancing him from her was the greatest act of love ever for them and for their families. But now she has realized that it was an act of non-love. Losing her sister, her family destroyed, the thing with Erick… she needed his comfort, his love, for him to be there. She realizes that things happen for a reason and he made Daniela so happy during the time that Daniela loved him. It did hurt her, but she doesn’t judge him for that anymore, she learned that YOLO (You only live once) and that it’s only worth it if you are with who you love. And the monologue FINALLY ends with David kissing her. [Okay, good, now we can move on.]
Pedro has escorted the cops to the place where he dumped Marintia’s lifeless body. It is rolled up in a carpet like a bean burrito. Franco’s name tag is found in her hand. Pedro says that Franco killed her and his (Pedro’s) only crime was hiding the corpse.
Julia is with her shrink and tells him how she feels betrayed. [Oy vey, here we go again with this.] She can’t believe all that she found out. The shrink asks her what she plans on doing now. She doesn’t know [no surprise there], she feels so bad, but at the same time she feels like a load has been taken off her mind. She now feels free from Arturo and Eladio and has learned that her happiness doesn’t depend on others, but herself. She’s now ready to take control of her own life. [Good, because it’s the ending, after all]
Nina arrives at David's apartment and finds David with Regina. He wants to explain, but Nina tells him there is no need. She knows that David only felt affection for Daniela and she’ll always thank him for that. Nina thinks that now is time for both Regina and David to be happy. Regina and David embrace as Nina looks on with a smile on her face.
That's it for Part 2. Urban Anthropologist will take it from here with Part 3. We want to keep the comments on the same page (Part 3 of the finale) so I'm disabling them in my section.
