SILVANA – JUEVES – Parte 1 de 2

Whaddya know? Plot development!

After Manuel is furious about the more-than-a-door between their bedrooms, Stella guts it out. At first she airily tells him she opened up the space, then claims to have been too weak to have done it. Finally she settles on a mistake by the contractor. The problem with this scene is that Manuel is crap at outrage. He can’t really seem to ever give her what she deserves: absolute rage. He should have left the room immediately and gone somewhere else.

We again see AJ showing Chivis the photo Stella sent him of she and Manuel kissing. He won’t tell her who sent it. She’s not strong in this scene. Her voice shaking, she says they’re friends and it only happened the once. AJ: “Do you think I’m an idiot?”

We see a very depressed Don Benito with a glass of wine and tears in his eyes. Margarita comes home and gets it out of him what happened with Trini. He says his heart is broken. Margarita is amazed by the “gardener” story and tells him [oh boy…for once Margarita is absolutely right] that Trini is not worth it, not even one tear.

We get more nonsense in Manuel’s bedroom. Now Dom has come up to see what’s happened. Manuel accuses him of always being her accomplice.

AJ gets more and more angry and confrontational. He asks her how many times she kissed him and calls her unfaithful. She tells him she wasn’t unfaithful.

Majo is exchanging romantic texts with Vicente when Angie comes into the bedroom, absolutely furious. She tells Majo about AJ not letting Jorge enter the house. Majo, as always, tries to stick up for dadito and says it must have been a misunderstanding.

AJ says what he said once before: that Chivis got involved with the first man who came along. ¡AL FIN! Chivis tells him that Manuel isn’t just any guy. “I am in love with Manuel.” Shaken, AJ changes tack. He reminds her of when they were novios and about their 20 years of marriage. She tells him she doesn’t want for anyone to be guilty. It just happened. She tells him that the marriage is over.

Angie has dadito’s number. She tells Majo that kindly daddy is over. He brought them to the house to keep them away from everyone, including Jorge. She tells Majo that she must know that he’ll do the same to her when he finds out about Vicente.

AJ still won’t accept what Chivis is saying. He keeps telling her they’re tired and need to talk some more. He promises he won’t tell the girls (manipulation).

Trini is trying to call Don Benito, but he won’t pick up.

Majo, Angie, and Trini are in the Living Room. Angie says her father is interfering in her life. The insufferable Trini sticks up for AJ. [I am envisioning AJ in jail, the mansion gone, and Trini in an extremely bare bones assisted living facility.] Trini tells the girls that the Gallardos are not for them. Angie gets angry and says that Trini was different when they lived in the duplex [not that much, Angie] but now she’s just una vendida (sellout).

SILVANA – JUEVES – Parte 2 de 2

Poncho is showing Génesis and Jonas the house where he and Génesis will live after they’re married – Stella’s former house. [Guess the writers forgot they’ve been there before because they keep acting like it’s the first time they’ve seen it.] Poncho gets pressured into a wedding in one week.

Stella keeps sticking her head through those red velvet drapes and bothering Manuel. He keeps falling into her traps, much to my displeasure. She tells him Dom is in the loo and she needs to use the bathroom. But then backs him up against the wall. She tells him that Chivis is back with AJ and gone forever.

Lupita and Pedrito on the phone FF>>>

AJ comes downstairs looking disheartened. Angie confronts him immediately. Awful Trini keeps sticking her oar in. Angie asks him if it’s true he told Jorge he couldn’t come into the house to visit her. He admits it. Angie: “Why? He’s my boyfriend.” AJ: Because I want to know your boyfriends and I don’t know him. [Hard to get to know boyfriends when you’ve either fled the country or are in the slammer, AJ.]

AJ gets very nasty and tells Angie that she and Jorge don’t have anything in common. Majo tries to make nice. Angie is SO wonderful and tough in this scene. She tells her father that she’ll be the one to choose her boyfriend. AJ says that he’s her father. Angie tells him that this isn’t some other epoca; fathers can’t choose for their daughters. He finally loses it. “I’m your father y punto.

We get a cute scene with Jorge and Vicente in that crowded boys’ room. These Gallardos are so well drawn as siblings. No matter which two are conversing, they are completely believable. Vicente teases his brother about singing some love song. Vicente tells his brother he was impressed by the mansion.

Angie is very sarcastic with her sister. “Thanks for sticking up for me. I don’t know what I would have done without you.” Majo is apologetic and says she was afraid. Angie says that she should have been a bit braver; this, after all, has everything to do with her.

Poncho tells Dom about getting married in a week. But then he tells him he still loves Stella.

Vicente and Jorge swear to fight for their girlfriends, bucking each other up.

Benji comes to see Margarita and asks her how she liked the “fan page” he put up.

Stella sneaks into Manuel’s bedroom while he’s sleeping, slips into bed with him, and takes some cell phone pictures of the two of them side by side.

La Doña 13

Saul and Monica arrive home and his parents get on him for being out with Monica.

Felipe spends the night with his prostitute, everything works fine, next morning AG gets on him for searching her room, he tells her he slept with another women, she's ok with that, but don't let her get us in trouble, oh and she doesn't want him touching her again, diseases you know.

Rafael and Leticia eat and talk strategy about using Felipe's letter to get the tenement for AG and how to handle the backlash, Emiliano joins them and they are anything but a happy family.

Monica gives Lidya the news, Saul broke up with Ximena because he is in love with another women, she thinks it's her.

the black bird is driving Miguel mad, and Braulio who came home late is leaving early with a box of tools, Valeria is suspicious.

AG calls Saul late and wants to meet at the work site, Jaime is free but Saul's lawsuit is still on, and as Saul shows up in the morning, so are Monica and Lidya there, contemplating selling sandwiches to the workers.

Braulio shows up to work on Miguel (does he say there are no birds) talks about how much he cares for AG and how disappointed he was to hear that the monkeys got there before him, he will enjoy this.

Felipe pokes around in AG's room again and stumbles on the bat cave (those are some long burning candles).

Saul talks to AG at the job, she shows him her deed for the tenement, that it was forged, makes like she is a kindler, gentler person, that she will get what she wants another way.

Monica double talks the guy at the gate, gets in and runs up to meet AG, they shake hands, she wants to sell sandwiches to the workers, AG likes her spunk (or is she trying to look good for Saul), but you might distract the workers because you are so attractive, Saul says she can take of herself (AG remembers seeing her during the attack at the tenement) AG suggests she sell them at her office building, Monica will start tomorrow, then goes and gives Lidya the good news, who thinks something is fishy.

Regina calls Yesenia, doesn't trust her, wants to meet AG's daughter, nope, Felipe appears and drags her to the bat cave, this is witchcraft, he wants an explanation from her, ask my sister Regina replies.

AG and Saul move off alone, and talk, get closer, kiss, and then to a more private part of the jobsite.

Felipe rips on Regina for her sisters private room, what is she doing, who is she poisoning, then it hits him, she was drugging him, and mentions sleeping with another woman, this noticeable hits Regina who turns to leave, but he grabs her, and you are her accomplice he accuses her, I will never betray my sister she says.

Braulio is breaking Miguel down, he doesn't know where the Monkeys are, just give me a name, one name, and he does, Alejandro Cepedes ??

not sure what Monica and Lidya's plans are, I think they are back at their old corner, sales are bad, and they get hassled by the cops, Monica baits them to take her, then shows them her new permits.

Yesenia stops by to see Lazaro (guilty conscience maybe) and gives him some money she saved (not), he reluctantly takes it for his tests, Yesenia prompts him to go to the hospital now, with her.

things are getting hot and heavy with Saul and AG, the clothes start coming off, but they hear workers approaching, Saul heads them off, something about doing a panoramic photo shoot, AG doesn't want the pictures ruined, well ok, they leave and Saul is back for the action, wait, AG is dressed, said they almost made a mistake, this is not the time or place, when Braulio calls her with the name, she is all business and sends Saul away so she can take the call.

next we see Saul at the hospital, what?, Margarita is getting discharged, she is worried about Miguel, Saul says she can stay at the tenement, tells her about the detective in Veracruz who wants to help and then calls her but learns that Miguel is missing.

Silvana sin lana:

Thank you, novelera, I missed a lot of this in context. This episode didn't piss me off as much as the previous one, but it still did: shrinking-violet Silvana didn't get to go off on an increasingly asshat-ish DotU (who dared say she betrayed him with a straight face--another Trump-like resemblance manifests itself), even if she did finally frigging admit that she loves Manuel, but Angie did. And Trini, the spoiled bitch who admittedly has been the DotU's biggest supporter, naturally backed him up against Angie. (I can actually forgive Maria Jose for sortakinda flaking out on the whole discussion, since after Trini she's been closest to her dad and she's a fruit loop anyway.) Let alone Manuel, perpetual nice guy that he is, not flipping completely the hell out over Stella's home improvements. Poncho keeping his feet chilly about his wedding due to Stella was the necessary "Yeah, yeah, we've seen this before" part.

Annoyingly, the best thing in the episode was probably either Lupita/Pedrito or Benji showing up in full Lifetime TV-movie stalker mode at the end to screw with Margarita.

El Chema:

I'm having a little trouble keeping track of what's going on in this super-extended flashback/prologue, since it's juggling a ton of characters. But I do love that it's bringing in various departed characters from big-brother show ESDLC--apparently Feyo Aguilera and Isidro and Guadalupe Robles are running around somewhere.

SILVANA

novelera - Thank you for the recap! (or maybe this was a 'recrap') It doesn't look like the story advanced much in this episode. Thanks again for suffering through it.

SILVANA

Why are Chivis and Mañuel such wimps? They remind me of the Democrat party.
Señorita Angie, wee Pedrito and Vicente are about the only characters I have any time left for!

Silvana

Many thanks, novelera, for heroically slogging through this episode to produce an excellent recap. I loved your asides, esp. "[I am envisioning AJ in jail, the mansion gone, and Trini in an extremely bare bones assisted living facility.]" I can just imagine how many of her classist "friends" would come visit her there. And thanks, too, for vendida -- definitely a word I want to add to my vocabulary.

For me, the biggest disappointment of the episode was Manuel. I've been thinking of him as a wuss, but last night that would have done wusses a disservice. I was hoping that when Stella explained that Dom was in her loo and she had to use the bathroom, Manuel would have told her to go pee or poo or whatever on the floor on her side. And why hasn't he already contacted the house's owner about Stella's outrageous alteration?

I was also disappointed (though not surprised) when Stella succeeded in taking photos showing Manuel and her in bed. Even though the room was dark, and she didn't use a flash, the photos came out very well lit. I know that there are now cellphone cameras that can take low-light pictures, but my impression is that they're very pricey, and Stella probably doesn't own one. [Actually, I was hoping that the camera would flash when she took her first shot, waking up Manuel and alerting him to what she was trying to do. But no, of course not, the writers have to fill up three more weeks. So undoubtedly Chivis will believe that Manuel and Stella are back together. Sigh.]

La Doña

Thanks very much, deb, for another amazing recap. I know I must sound like a broken record, but I keep being awed by your ability to sum everything up so skillfully.

I'm finding the Spanish in this novela somewhat harder to understand than in Silvana, except of course for the Three Stooges. What worries me is that there are no Three Stooges in La Doña, but I find even what the normal people say difficult to follow. Oh well, I'm hoping that my ear will eventually get acclimated. But whether or not it does, I'm very grateful for your superb recaps.

SILVANA:

Thanks, novelera! I concur with what you all said. I was cheering Angie on. The only one with guts in this tn (who isn't crazy). And I was highly disappointed in Miguel. I thought it was incredibly stupid of him to not realize that Stella would try some kind of shenanigans in the middle of the night, knowing how she's been trying to jump his bones at every opportunity. What he should have done was switch bedrooms with Lucha, that way Stella would have gotten a nasty surprise when she crawled into bed with Lucha. But I overestimated his intelligence.

SILVANA:

Sorry- Manuel, not Miguel!

Silvana--
Yep, folks, this tn just jumped the shark for me.
First--AJ bamboozling Chivis after her declaration of being in love with Manuel;
Second--Margarita being so tender and understanding with her abuelo AND being the victim of a perpetration she had engineered against Angie and we're supposed to like her now;
Third--Trini is just unreal, vexing, more so than Mrs. Bennett in Pride & Prejudice and an equally loathsome classist stereotype;
Fourth--Vicente thinking AJ won't interfere with his relationship with Majo;
Fifth--Manuel, ach, what can I say. He did EVERYTHING wrong. He should have immediately called a carpenter/wallboard-er to rebuild the wall and charge Stella for it. He should have left the room, locked the door from the outside (if he could) and vacated it until the wall was rebuilt. We know he spends a lot of time downstairs on the couch, in Lucha's room or the boys' room, why stay in the room to "work" with Stella on the other side of the curtain. Dumb writers. Lazy, dumb writers. There are other tn ways to create tension between the two leads.

I agree with Vivi--Manuel should have changed places with Lucha for the night. And we thought the only DimDumbBulb was Dave on Vino.

I'm done with them all. Thank goodness I'll be away for a week. Maybe by the time I return, someone will have gotten some brains.

Silvana--
And by that I mean the writers. (Sadly, it's probably too late.)

SILVANA

We can only hope that after all the nonsense that Stella has pulled, Silvana won't fall for this one. Who takes a selfy of themselves in bed (when they have clothes on and are mostly sleeping)?

I'm going to give Silvana a pass because, from her body language, it looks like she had been beaten down emotionally by AJ before. She said once that he made all the decisions in the household, and with her head down and meekly responding to him, she's obviously used to doing whatever he says. This independence is a new thing, as is confronting him properly. She managed to learn quickly how to take care of her family. She can handle this. And if it gets hard, go talk to Angie who has once again proven she's the smartest one around.

Kelly

Silvana. You've outdone yourself this time, novelera. I tried to comment, but evidently pressed post at exactly the same time Kelly did and it disappeared. My one observation beyond what others have said was that I thought Chivis made progress in her confrontation with AJ. Like many bullies he folded a bit by offering to "pardon her" when directly confronted by her saying she was in love with Manuel. Divorce lawyer! That's the only thing that would make the delusional AJ realize he's done for. (That and going back to prison). I'll bet that even in a bare bones assisted living facility Trini would still be a snob. And Angie just keeps getting ever more admirable.

Silvana. novelera: I also agreed with you that Manuel handled the Stella missing wall confrontation badly. He should have gone to the closest Menards, Home Depot, or equivalent, bought some 2 x 4s and boarded up the hole himself. The suggestions from some of the commenters of his changing rooms with Lucha for the night were excellent too. I had also admired your comment that the Gallardos were well drawn as siblings. Yep, that is one of this tn's strengths.

Silvana--Regardless of Silvana jumping the shark for me, novelera managed to swim right through it all and come back up on dry land safe and in good humor. Thank you, belatedly.

Silvana

Thanks for Thursday's recap, novelera! I can hardly wait for the 40 minutes of inaction and 4 minutes of plot progression in tonight's episode.

Silvana

SpanProf: I hope Trini gets her ANVIL soon. I HATE her!

La Dona

Deb: I noticed that Felipe found AG's secret chamber dungeon.

Silvana

Thanks for all the terrific comments, guys. My recap couldn't adequately express my disgust at Stella getting away with her OUTRAGEOUS invasion of privacy. Of course, telenovela characters almost never do what I want them to do. If I could have transported myself into Manuel's body, I'd have called the cops. And maybe they would have then called the guys in the white suits, armed with a strait jacket.

And Trini is SO shrill and SO completely unbearable in every scene! Actually, I talk about fast forwarding but I watch every minute of her idiocy. How, how can she ever be redeemed?

I'm not optimistic Chivis won't fall for Stella's cell phone trick. After all, Manuel didn't pick up the phone and tell her about the "construction project", so she'll likely think he had something to hide.

Novelera: I want Karma to HIT Trini so bad, I usually fast forward whenever she's on.

LA DONA: Thank you deb! Great recapping! I'm beginning to fear for Felipe's safety now that he's discovered the lair of the bruja. He's on a tear, but no match for AG. Aracely is playing the same type of fierce, "ballsy" (pardon me if that offends anyone), strong woman with a grudge that she played in Los Miz. The difference being that here she's on the dark side. Pobre de Monica; she's deluding herself about Saúl's feelings. It's going to be nasty when the scales fall from her eyes. Saúl isn't winning any points with me for his cavalier treatment of the women in his life. I'm still not clear on the details of this latest scam to establish ownership of the vecindad, but I guess all that matters is that AG is the greedy bad developer and the tenants are innocent victims. Wondering whether they will dig up Yesenia's husband sooner or later.

Novelera, thanks for "takIng one" for the team/patio. Where can I find a novela beanie? I am so disappointed in Chivis and Manuel that I'm going to need a beanie or several drinks (or both) to survive such poppycock from the writers. Unlike some, I'm glad Chivis will see Stella's contrived foto in bed with Manuel. Perhaps it will help her find a backbone. Thankfully, we're in the "final episodes" and have recaps like yours to help us endure. Martini anyone?
Helen

SILVANA -

novelera - the only way Trini can be redeemed is if she donates her heart to someone, or both kidneys. 😛

Silvana sin lana:

novelera has probably asked the most important question of the entire series--how can it redeem Trini, the one character who might actually be more of a judgmental and possessive bitch than Antonio Jose? While she has had moments of relative lucidity, she's still more often than not so far over into rich-bitch territory that even her comic moments/tendencies actually fail to mitigate it. She's rivaling Hortensia from Santa Diabla, and that show thankfully killed that character off and had her have a sort of deathbed reconciliation. With Benito in the picture, I have to assume that's out...but then what can they do? Simply have her turn her back on the good life as she knows it and run off to be with Benito? That's not nearly enough, IMHO. If Benito is her endgame, she needs to frigging grovel and lose it all before I can even try to accept that.

La Doña 14 (1/2)

Saul talks to the detective about Miguel, he is sure he wouldn't flee, and afterwards questions Margarita, AG was with you, then she was in Veracruz, did you tell her about Miguel, ah no...

Gabino shows up in street clothes, Monica tells of her permits, then guesses he had something to do with it, he admits it, she doesn't like him strong-arming people for her, but thanks him, then with Lidya and Jorge they go for a beer.

Laz showered and is dressing to go with Yesenia to the hospital, but is having trouble with his pants, she checks in on him to see what's taking so long and helps, she works on him to get back what's his.

Braulio has found too many matches on the internet, they need Miguel to finger the monkey, but he is out cold, Ag can't stay because she has invited Marcos to dinner, I thought Isabel was to be with Diego, working on it, AG says.

when AG gets home Regina tells of Felipe finding her lair, wow, this is a very sacred place for her, the only place she can be herself, and feel close to her parents and Cesar, Felipe violated her personal space, now it's tainted.

the papers Felipe signed for AG come across his desk, whoa...

Laz arrives too late at the hospital for tests but there are some scans he can do, the doc asks about Monica.

Monica, Gabino, Lidya, and Jorge are at a fancy club, drinking fancy drinks with gummies and a salsa song comes on Gambino likes, he wants to dance, he'll teach Monica, and the place has a kiss cam, if it shines on you, you kiss, and it shined on them, Monica says no, he kisses her, parties over, she has her sights on someone else, she leaves.

Saul and Lopez are at another bar, he admits being smitten by AG and Lopez thinks he is feeling guilt over Ximena, not heartbreak.

Marcos shows for dinner, on time and with beautiful flowers for Regina and AG, AG explains she couldn't stop his expulsion (not) but she will be able to get them to welcome him back, enter a mad Felipe who has had a few drinks.

Felipe rants about the papers AG had him sign, she points out he is ruining Isabela's dinner, Marcos thinks he should go, AG agrees, Isabela flips, and later sneaks out after him.

Valeria walks into the bar Saul is at, Lopez ducks out, and Saul approaches her, she's still upset about the stunt he pulled having her get him into that party, he wants to apologize, as she makes it clear she can't talk about any cases she is working on out of the courtroom, and the tenement case is still open, what? is the look in Saul's eyes, and how stupid can I be in hers.

Valeria says she is not as dumb as people think, Saul urges her to make her own decisions, and calls her on stopping by for a drink rather than going home.

Laz and Yesenia are back, I guess Laz was a handful, he hates hospitals, Yesenia hangs around to comfort him, maybe it's just guilt for pinning AG on him, she says, she was so young and so beautiful he laments.

AG and Felipe are still at it, AG starts rounding up his stuff to throw him out of her house, this is my house he roars, you will be the one taking orders, you sent me to a prostitute but here I have the perfect whore, I could forgive you for everything but not for making me doubt my manhood, and this keeps getting rougher, throwing her on the bed and getting on top of her, she knees him, he grabs her, he wants to know who her lover is.

La Doña 14 (2/2)

Monica is back home, hears Laz laughing, this is new, and goes in to see what's up, Yesenia explains the hospital visit, I'll pay you back Monica says, and asks her if they are more than friends, no Yesica says, and Monica tells her when they first met, she was wondering if Yesenia was he mother, boing...

Marcos and Isabela have arrived at his house, his parents won't be home till late, Isabela says no matter how things turn out, she'll go where Marcos goes, and they get comfortable on his bed.

looks like Felipe's rape of AG is all but a done deal, until she grabs a bottle and smashes him good, and when he comes at her again, he falls on the glass shard she is still holding, bleeding bad he asks for help, NO ONE has the right to rape a woman AG tells him, Regina shows as he collapses.

Silvana sin Lana - Friday, December 16 - Capítulo 102, part 1/3

Short version:

The first half is annoying with more fighting between Stella/Chivis and Manuel/AJ. Stella shows the photo of her and Manuel to Chivis. Luckily the second half has cute scenes with Majo/Vicente and Lucha/Andrés. Also, Benji gets taken away by the police and Poncho lets the cult use Stella’s old house for sermons - forgetting that Vicente and Majo are also using it as their love nest…

Long version:

Stella sneaks into bed with Manuel and takes a photo of them “sleeping” together.

Chivis keeps tossing and turning in her bed. Lupita can’t sleep either and joins her. She misses Pedrito.

Benji keeps harassing Margarita and grabs her arms, pinning her against the counter. Jorge arrives and he and Benji start fighting. Eventually Jorge knocks Benji to the floor and holds him down while Margarita calls the police.

Lucha remembers talking to Andrés in the truck when he was passed out.

The police take Benji away. Margarita feels bad for getting Jorge involved and asks him not to tell anyone what happened. She actually takes responsibility for getting into the mess with Benji in the first place. Jorge, ever the good guy, says of course he was going to defend her and he’s happy that they’re friends. They hug.

The next morning at breakfast, Lucha and Vicente laugh about Stella making the huge hole in the wall. Manuel is not amused. Lucha still thinks Stella is harmless, but Manuel wonders what else she will do. And what will happen when the owner of the house finds out? They could press charges against Stella for destruction of property. But of course Manuel won’t denounce her.

Chivis marches into the office and yells at Stella for sending the photo of her and Manuel kissing to AJ. They trade insults and Stella tells her to prepare for war.

Manuel has already asked Jorge not to tell Pedrito about the wall. Lucha heads out to go to class and AJ is at the door when she opens it. He wants to speak to Manuel alone. Vicente goes in the kitchen where he can still clearly hear everything. AJ tells Manuel that he knows what’s going on between him and Chivis because Chivis told him.

AJ accuses him of destroying his family and tells him to step aside. Manuel does not back down and reminds him that he abandoned his family and Chivis has the right to start over with anyone she wants. AJ doesn’t believe that Chivis is really in love with Manuel. Manuel just happened to be there when he was not.

Esteban flirts with the maids at the mansion. Trini orders him to drive her to the barrio and he whines and protests that he had already been there that morning and he wants to drink his coffee. He knows that she wants to go to see Don Benito. Trini is fed up with his attitude and orders him to do his job.

Silvana sin Lana - Friday, December 16 - Capítulo 102, part 2/3

Stella follows Chivis outside, claims that she and Manuel are already getting closer again, and shows her the photo. Chivis is almost in tears and refuses to talk to Stella. Stella is at her worst here so feel free to FF. Chivis finally manages to drive off, but at least she gets to say that Stella is a shame to their gender first.

AJ is also at his worst and I really want to punch him. Manuel repeats that he and Chivis are in love, and the woman that AJ married no longer exists. AJ finally gives up and leaves. Vicente comes out of the kitchen to support his dad. Manuel is afraid, not of AJ, but of how Chivis is going to react.

Andrés shows Lucha his house and the plane ticket he bought for Mexico with the money he got back from the non-wedding. Lucha wasn’t expecting him to buy it so soon and half-jokingly wonders if he bought one for her too. Andrés comments that he would be afraid that she’d stand him up at the airport and she says she would never do that.

Vicente takes Majo to Stella’s old house so they can be alone. Majo is afraid that someone will interrupt them. She also feels guilty since she was brought up so conservative and really did want to be a virgin when she got married. Vicente tells her they’re not doing anything wrong since they love each other and she teases him for being so cursi (sickly sweet) and sounding like Chayanne (the singer). He asks if she wants to go upstairs. When she says yes, he picks her up and carries her up the stairs.

Andrés just needs to resign from the university and then he’ll be ready to go. Lucha jokes that she’ll bully the new teacher like she did with him. He tells Lucha they will keep in contact through Facebook. She doesn’t think he will have internet or time to keep in touch with her. He promises that he will always have time for her and he will find a way to talk to her, even if it’s through carrier pigeons or morse code. She tells him it will be very hard for her to not see him at the university anymore. She is proud of him for what he’s doing, but her heart is broken.

Andrés gives Lucha a handkerchief and tries to cheer her up. Lucha wishes they could have done this project together. Andrés reminds her that she needs to finish her studies and then she will be able to help people. Lucha admits that she thought he was just going to end up in a private clinic making tons of money and not helping anyone. He thought the same, but then he met her. She’s the best thing that happened to him that year. But he needs to go away to heal and find out who he is without Majo.

Silvana sin Lana - Friday, December 16 - Capítulo 102, part 3/3

In bed, Majo says she has never felt as protected and cared for as she does with Vicente. She feels so happy. Vicente is also happy and in love. He asks her if she is in love. She wonders if he’s being serious. Would she have gone to the house of her mother’s enemy with him or called off her wedding if she wasn’t in love with him? He was just joking of course, and when he says she already gave him la prueba de amor (proof of love), she really starts teasing him for being so cheesy. He responds that he has to keep talking like that since she’s his fresita from Coral Gables. He pronounces Gables like gah-blehz and Majo teaches him how to pronounce it in English. He repeats her, imitating her voice and intonation, and Majo teases him more.

Poncho lets Don Jonas and Genesis in the house so he can bless the space and hold sermon there. Everyday Don Jonas is trusting Poncho more and more. The cult members arrive with their own chairs and start filling the downstairs.

Majo tells Vicente that when they’re alone she feels like she can face her father and tell him about them, but then when she goes home, she chickens out.

Don Jonas thanks Poncho for letting them use the house but his mind is elsewhere, staring at Genesis and imaging that she’s starting to undress for him. Genesis nudges him to bring him back to reality and he yells alabado (praise the Lord).

Upstairs, Vicente and Majo hear the noise. They wonder if someone is downstairs or if the house is being robbed. Vicente grabs a bat and tells Majo to get dressed just in case.

Lucha tells Andrés that after he gets Majo out of his system and when he wants a girlfriend, he can send her a pigeon and she’ll find him one who’s a first year med student and who can visit him during vacation, like a summer romance. Andrés thinks it’s a good deal but it would have to be more than a summer romance. Lucha asks why she didn’t meet him before. They exchange te quieros. Andrés says being with him right now would be like flying with a broken wing and she doesn’t want that. They agree that when they see each other again, she’ll return the handkerchief he gave her. She wishes him luck and they hug.

Don Jonas is grateful they have a new place for their gathering, and they need to keep it free of sin. Poncho assures him that it is. Just as Don Jonas proclaims si no es así, el maligno baje por esas escaleras (if it is not that way, may the evil descend those stairs), Vicente comes down the stairs in his boxers holding the bat.

La Doña

MANY thanks, deb, for another excellent recap. As is so often the case, it cleared up some things I missed when I watched the episode.

I wish I liked the characters better. Even Mónica is getting on my nerves. Admittedly, that's in part because she speaks so fast, and I often find it hard to follow what she's saying. But I'm also finding that I like her less and less as the novela progresses. Perhaps it's because I'm watching it right after having watched Silvana, and one hour of trying to understand spoken Spanish may be my limit, esp. at night. If that's the case, things should improve after Silvana drags to its long-overdue end.

Among the things that puzzle me was the conversation between Braulio and AG where Braulio says he thought Isabela was supposed to be with Diego, and AG says she's working on it. Did she say something either in that conversation or elsewhere about how she's working on it? I'm trying to figure out how her seeming to befriend Marcos is part of her plan. Or are we supposed to be in the dark about that right now?

I also wonder at times about the ages of the characters, esp. Yesenia, Lázaro, AG, Saúl, and Mónica. Oh well, I'll leave that alone for now.

Silvana

Muchas gracias, J, for yet another terrific recap, and for identifying Chayanne. Since the Spanish captions are all upper-case, I had no idea whether Chayanne was a person, a place, or a thing.

When Benji and Jorge were fighting, I kept wondering why Margarita didn't step in to help Jorge. At last, she did; her hitting Benji over the head was probably the only thing that stopped him from seriously hurting Jorge. And I guess we're again supposed to forgive and forget all the terrible things that Margarita has done in the past. I'm not sure I'm willing to do that. And I suspect that by the end we'll be expected to accept the redemption of Trini and Stella. Count me out.

I guess I was in a bad mood last night when I watched the episode, and that mood has apparently carried over until now. I was (and am) furious with Lucha and Vicente for finding anything funny about Stella's massive invasion of Manuel's privacy. That's especially the case because Manuel has already told both of them that he's in love with Chivis.

Andrés has been on my mierda list for quite a while, and he cemented his place on it last night. When he held up a plane ticket, I thought that it was a surprise ticket for Lucha to accompany him (and Lucha may have thought so, too). No way. Mr. Egocentrism can only think about how he feels, what he needs. His sweet talk about staying in touch with Lucha by carrier pigeon or morse code didn't make up for his insensitivity in the rest of the scene (as well as at so many other times).

I thought Manuel did a good job of holding his own and then some in the confrontation with AJ, and I loved the sly smile he showed to Viewerville when AJ announced that Chivis had told him all. But then Bold and Effective Manuel turns back into Manuel the Infuriating Wuss. Why in the world does he even hesitate about denouncing Stella? He berates Chivis for not being strong enough to tell AJ the truth, only to inexplicably wimp out when he has to do something a bit outside his comfort zone (though why it should be outside his comfort zone, I don't know). Feh!!

OK. Rant over (for now). :-)

Silvana. Excellent and complete recap, J. Also, thanks to Juanita for adding the detail about Margarita's clobbering Benji while he was distracted fighting Jorge. Benji really did seem to be attempting a rape. Let's hope that being in a remote part of Mexico and treating the poor and sick will cure Andres of some of his egocentrism. I too loved the way Manuel has AJ all figured out--that he's egocentric and despite 20 years of marriage doesn't even know Chivis, at least not the smart, independent, resourceful Chivis Manuel fell in love with. However, I can't believe that Chivis fell for Stella's story and bogus picture. I hope that plot line doesn't last long! I am off for a couple of weeks' vacation. I'll miss the next few episodes unless we stay in some motels that have Telemundo--somehow more of them seem to have Univision. I may be able to catch up at our daughter's in Houston, but may have to binge watch the rest when we get back. I think I'll be missing the episodes in which things may actually start happening!

Silvana sin lana:

Gracias, J, for this recap and especially for "Stella is at her worst here so feel free to FF." Yup, this damn show keeps on pissing me off. In no particular order:

- The only things that kept me from completely blasting Silvana for falling for Stella's picture gag after all the crap she's done before now were her zinger about how Stella has to dress like her to get Manuel to notice her and the fact that she doesn't know about the hole in the wall. That's about it. She should be smarter than this.

- Margarita's karma recycling via Lifetime Stalker Benji should have gone on a little longer before he got busted. That said, her deciding to keep mum about it probably does help a little bit; she's at least finally demonstrating a little self-awareness, which puts her way ahead of Stella and Trini.

- As much as I can not frigging stand Antonio Jose, Douchebag of the Universe, and as much as I liked that Manuel got to defend himself, Silvana, and his family to him...I've never been able to escape this sense that Manuel and Silvana's until-recently-secret relationship, albeit complicated as it has been by their families, is giving a faint whiff of moral superiority to one of the two characters on the show who absolutely does not deserve it. It's frustrating as hell, even if it's not necessarily deliberate; maybe I'm reading too much into the show's intent as well, but here I am.

- Andres/Lucia. I'm torn between appreciating that the show didn't insta-couple them after Andres got left at the altar, complete with Andres having this "I need to go find myself" moment (which I kinda get), and damning it for continuing to torpedo the sanest junior couple on the show before it ever got started. (Not the best junior couple, though. That's still Lupita/Pedrito.) Maybe there's a swerve coming, or maybe there's a timeskip and Andres and Lucia get together in two years a la El Fantasma de Elena...which would figure.

- Lucia and Vicente being more amused than freaked the hell out by Stella's home improvements. I guess it's in light of her track record, and I suppose I get that, but it was still really weird and a little awkward--especially with Manuel trying to stay zen about this now undeniably crazy bitch.

- And speaking of torpedoing stuff: right when I'm getting on board the Poncho/Genesis train, the show damn near napalms it--if comically. (We can never have nice things...is that it, show?) If this is the case, then it likely has to be setting up Poncho and Stella finally getting together at the end of the show--which would be fine if she actually deserved him, which at this point she most certainly does not.

Silvana

J- you do such wonderful recaps, it's always a pleasure to read then.

yep, Jorge was really getting a beating until Margarita conked Benji.

it was interesting following the Manuel/AJ confrontation, the manipulative AJ pushing all the right buttons but appealing to Manuel to not let it get physical, and quite masterful of Manuel to turn the tables and explain to AJ why HE is the one that needs to 'step aside'.

General

Have a wonderful, relaxing vacation, SpanProf. We'll miss you!

La Doña

thanks Juanita, LXV, and all who comment!

these recaps are a day to day thing to get us started, I don't know how long I will be doing this.

Juanita- AG's original plan was to get rid of Marcos but this just upset Isabela, so we haven't seen the new plan yet except she is reeling him in, it most likely involves convincing Isabela that he is no good, AG probably prefers Diego because he is a wimp that Isabela could dominate.

on the ages, I don't remember if they layed this out, but we could start with the rape 20 years ago, that's Monica's age, so AG maybe 35 now, Yesenia sister to her mother maybe 50 and for Saul, an educated and accomplished lawyer 30ish and Laz had his own business when AG was 16 ??, so 45/50 ??

General. Thanks, Juanita!

La Doña

Thanks muchly, deb, for answering my questions. So Lázaro, a man of 25 or 30 (20 years ago), married AG when she was, say, 15 or 16?? And would a man that young have had a hugely successful business (let's not forget that we're not talking about the tech industry)?

My head is spinning.

La Doña

deb, I meant to add that if you'd prefer not to continue to recap all five days each week, I'd be willing to do one each week after Silvana has ended, and perhaps other folks will offer to recap as well.

SILVANA

Thanks so much, J, for a very complete, terrific recap.

Well, I guess they’re going with Margarita being well on her way to redemption. Lately she has been very supportive of her grandfather, first trying to get some company in the guise of Sara. Of course that backfired, but her sentiment was real. And then she appears to have moved on from the Jorge obsession. It doesn’t look like Stella is that mature.

I thought they went too far in the Benji scene. He was portrayed as a pretty nice guy when he was falling for Angie. He started out as making her fall for him so Margarita could get Jorge back. But he was good with her. And I remember many of us wishing she’d just stay with Benji when Jorge was so annoyingly wimpish at times. So having him go all psycho on Margarita and then actually trying to choke Jorge to death didn’t work for me.

I thought the scene with Manuel and AJ was well acted on both sides. And AJ’s trying to get Manuel to stay away from Stella was the opposite of masculinity. Definitely desperation. Manuel was terrific when he said that he didn’t fall for AJ’s wife. He fell for a strong, independent woman who would get up at 4:00 to earn a living for her family. There was a lot of suppressed anger by both of them, and I kept expecting fists to fly. But then Manuel would only defend himself. He’s just not a violent person.

I guess they’re going with Chivis being too well bred to stoop to Stella’s level. And I guess it says something about my own fairly feisty personality, but I can’t stand it when she doesn’t seem to be able to stand up to Stella. I would have long since punched her in the chops if she got up in my face that way. And, of course, they’re going with her believing Manuel slept with Stella. Despite how close and deeply in love they’ve seemed recently, she buys the nut case’s trick.

I also thought Andrés might have been buying that ticket for Lucha. And at the same time I thought that she needs to finish medical school. He is insensitive at times, but I kind of give him a pass. What he said made perfect sense. He needs to heal in order to be ready for a relationship with Lucha. I got a kick out of her attempt to return his hankie and his saying ¡guácala! (gross, disgusting). She then teased him for using such a naco expression.

When they showed Vicente coming down the stairs, I was thinking: a bat, of course there’s always a bat close to hand in any kind of show, whether in Spanish or English.

SpanProf, we will definitely miss your insightful comments while you’re gone. Have fun with your family.

Silvana. Thanks, novelera! Great comments on Silvana as usual.

Silvana

J, thanks for what you do. Your work is greatly appreciated, especially in light of this being an extremely tedious and flat out annoying
Helen

Silvana
I meant to say annoying novela.

SILVANA:

Thanks so much, J! I haven't seen the episode yet, but will try to watch so I can see the Manuel-AJ scene and the Lucha-Andres scene.

SpanProf- Have a wonderful vacation!

La Doña:

Deb- You've done us a huge favor by recapping the first weeks of this show. You've done an amazing job.

I wonder how AG is going to cover up her husband's death? He's a pretty high profile politician, it doesn't seem like it will be easy.

Every time that AG or someone else says the Monkeys, I think of the Monkees and hear their theme song in my head. :)

La Doña

"yo no naci para amar"

is a recurring line in the chorus of the theme song "YO SOY LA DOÑA SIN DUEÑO" that Aracely Arámbula sings so well, it means

'I was not born to love'.

if you do a search on the song title, there are some videos with the words.

GENERAL

oh, if you haven't been to translate.google.com in a while, wow, these guys are on to something, it's as if they used to translate words and then try to put them together into a sentence, now they go for the sentence and bend the words into it, a translation of the La Doña theme song was pretty smooth.

SILVANA

J -
Thank you for the "recrap"!!!

The Patio of Lowered Expectations deserves more than what we've been getting lately from this telenovela.

I am ready to lanza nerfazos at the writers and these characters. Maybe their new years' resolutions will be to start acting sane? For sure, Trini, Fat Toad, and Stella should get charcoal in their stockings.

It's good that Andres is going away for a while. He'll probably get his head on straight while he's away.

As for Andres' future with Lucha, I can't see it ending with a HEA. If they marry, and Majo and Vicente marry, then that whole Brady Bunch/OMG my-ex-is-now-my-cuñada thing just gets too weird.
I'm not seeing it happen.

Seriously, just imagine the Brady Bunch family tree if all the pairings end up together HEA (FPS --- feliz para siempre:

Casa Gallardo + Chez Chivis:

Manuel + Chivis
Vicente + Majo
Jorge + Angie
Pedrito + Lupita
Lucha + . . . . Andres (ex of Majo)

Silvana

doris, you raise a good point. Perhaps a way around it is to have Andrés extremely inspired to continue the valuable work he's doing in Mexico, but not alone. He comes to realize that he wants Lucha by his side por siempre. Of course, that might screw up her med school education, but either they could wait until she gets her degree, or she could transfer to a med school in Mexico. Either way, they'd not be near the rest of the clan on a daily basis, but they'd be close enough to get together with them at Christmas, for example.

Hmmm...the more I think of that solution, the less I like it. I doubt that Lucha would want to be separated from her father and her siblings. But I think I'll hoist it up the flagpole anyway and see if anyone salutes.

SILVANA:

The writers already made it weird and icky but pairing up the parents AND each of the brothers with each of the sisters. The paring of Lucha and Andres is the least icky pairing, in my opinion.

General

Just noticed that Don Francisco now has a variety show on Telemundo. Was he fired from Univision? He used to have a long-running variety show on Saturday on Univision.

Gobluefan: I'm fuzzy on the specifics, but AIUI Univision officially canceled Don Francisco's long-running Sabado Gigante in spring 2015; it ran its last episode in September of last year. After that, I think he stuck around for the annual Teleton and then poofed to Telemundo early this year. Hopefully, his new show will last longer than Cristina Saralegui's did (about five months).

Silvana sin lana:

Vivi made a good point the show has generally tried to downplay--it's literally paired up everybody in two families together, if in a low-key fashion, which is kind of weird and latently icky. Last I knew, the only other novela that really went there was Fuego en la sangre--and that, I imagine, wasn't nearly as infuriating as this one is/has been.

Silvana

One more thing. When is AJ's trial? I assume he is out on bail.

We never see him consult his new lawyer or even discuss his case. It is almost as if he was cleared from all his past crimes. And, how is he going to pay his legal bills? I think buying back the former mansion and all its contents took much of the payment that he received earlier from an investor.

La Doña

Did Miguel's husband die? I know he passed out after getting stabbed with the broken bottle held by AG. Is there another scene that I missed that explicitly showed that he was dead?

SILVANA:

GoBlueFan- Just the mere mention of AJ's legal status infuriates me. How much time has passed, and Silvana hasn't checked for herself what the heck is going on with his case?! She just accepts everything he says as the gospel. After chasing him every which way, and harassing Silvana constantly, suddenly the investigators are nowhere to be seen? Not even when they've moved address? Oh, please! My beanie has exploded.

La Dona

I mean AG's husband's Miguel. Did he die?

LA DONA:

GoBlueFan- No, he didn't die. He just looked in really, really bad shape from that bottle stabbing. He'll likely survive to continue being a pain to AG.

SILVANA

Bill C - FELS had lots of infuriating stuff, especially the filler segment in the jungle with diaper man and Sofia Vergara. The posts and Patio comments were a bona file snarkfest.

Bona fide ....l thank you autocorrect....NOT
