Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia, Capítulo 41, Thursday November 1, 2018; “Susana hires Catalina?” Or, “Things just get worse!”
We open
with David’s birthday celebration. Just before he blows out the candles he
makes the wish that he will get to meet his “real” father soon. This does not
bode well with Julieta and Robert. You can see Robert’s face just drop at the
thought.
Breakfast
is going on at the Córsega’s apartment and Audi is exclaiming about what they
should do to get rid of Crisanta. Imelda makes the comment that she is not
going to rest until Crisanta goes back to Baja California. Frida is texting at
the breakfast table and Blanca tells her the rules. She wants to go to the fair
with Lupe. Linda seems to think it’s just fine and says she will go, but
Eugenio says she is still being punished. Frida begs to go, but Blanca says, “We’ll
see, first we have to celebrate David’s birthday.” All of a sudden, Audi gets
up from the table and says he has to leave and go out and look for work. Everyone
thinks he is acting strange, even Polita. She says he’s hiding something, but
it’s certainly not money.
Robert
and Julieta arrive with the family in tow. They all sing “Las Mañanitas” to
him.
Later,
Rob and Julieta sit down at the Córsega table, Eugenio and Blanca notice that
they look sad and ask why. Julieta tells them that David’s wish when he blew
out his candles this morning was to meet his “real” father. Then Imelda starts
in with her “I told you so” regarding how it was a mistake to adopt an older
child. She says, “They have to suffer the consequences of adopting an older
child.” [Not nice, Imelda! Older children need homes and
good families to grow up in too. You just can’t kick them to the curb like
garbage.]
At
Susana’s place, her sons are saying goodbye to Vicente. Susana hears Axel says
how proud of he is of his father which cuts into her. She says she will wait in
the car for Sebas and starts to walk out. Axel catches up with her and says he
didn’t mean to hurt her with what he said. He mentions that with his
grandmother gone right now, shouldn’t they have more unity? Susana starts to say something about why
shouldn’t he be proud of her too, but he never says it. Plus he always refers
to his father as “Pa” but never calls her “Ma” and only refers to her as “Susana.”
She asks him to put himself in her place. How does he think she feels about the
fact they undervalue what she does and believe that their father’s position is
of all importance? Wiping her tears and hurt, Susana tells Axel, “It seems like
you are incapable of loving me.”
Back at
the Córsega building where Pancho has allowed Crisanta to stay, she is having
her employees from the dress shop deliver cans of paint and supplies. Julian wants
to know if these people are going to move in too, but Crisanta says they are
not, they are only her toy soldiers.
Daniela
is all packed up and ready to completely move out. She says goodbye to her “oso”
on the couch.
At
Cklass, Julieta and Susana go over some work. She speaks with Susana about
personal things about Susana’s mother. Susana explains that her mother does not
listen to reason, but she is going to explore other options. Julieta goes on to
talk about the problem with David and how David got the idea to want to meet his
biological father. Julieta’s theory is that it might have come from Sebastian
somehow. Susana listens, she says she would like to help, but Sebastian doesn’t
really listen to her. In fact, he’s all about his father and idolizes his
father. Susana starts to get a little
emotional and then suggests, “Let’s get back to the job here and work on
something that really is within our realm of control.” Julieta then thinks to
herself, “I just hope that Susana doesn’t turn into the monster again.”
Out in
the lobby, Casandra talks to another employee who says that Susana will kill
her if she doesn’t find her a personal assistant. Catalina is walking in to
overhear this and says she up for the job! Catalina asks what they need. “We need
someone who can do secretarial duties and also bilingual. Do you know anyone
like that?” Catalina just smiles.
Then
Catalina barges into Julieta’s office, “July!” “Mom, what are you doing here?”
Catalina says she has been very worried about her and pulls out her tarot
cards. Julieta tells her no, because she doesn’t believe in them. She has the
real truth and tells Catalina: “Yela came to see me and told me that David’s
bio father is in prison.” Then Catalina asks if she can read the stars or horoscopes
for David’s bio family. Julieta rejects that notion and tells her she has to
get back to work and it would be good for her (Catalina) to find herself a job.
Cat asks if Julieta thinks she can do anything? Julieta says, “Sure, something
that you can feel motivated to do. So what are you thinking about Mother?” Cat
answers, “That the universe moves in mysterious ways.”
The
painting has begun in the hallway of the Córsega apartment building. It is a
shade of a very yucky bright green. Blanca, Imelda and Eugenio are appalled;
they say it looks like a tavern. Blanca says it looks like diarrhea. The two
old women argue and Imelda threatens to call the police, then she takes a
paintbrush and paints over Crisanta’s blouse. Crisanta offers tit for tat. During
the argument, Daniela comes walking up with her suitcases and informs them all that
she has separated from Gabriel.
Linda
sneaks into Axel’s office to play.
Catalina
seeks out Susana at Cklass and tells her she is done fighting with her. Cat
tells her she is looking for her and would like to apply as her assistant. Susana
tells her that she needs someone bilingual in English and that an intermediate
knowledge of English fine. But would also like someone who can speak Manderin.
Cat basically fakes her way through the interview.
Gabriel
goes to Julieta’s office seeking her sympathy. Julieta hugs him and feels very
badly for him. They talk and she reminds him of how she left Robert for a while
to sort things out but they got back together. She tells him to look at this as
an opportunity, not just to think of Daniela, but to also think of himself.
Julieta explains that the only successful way of having a good relationship
with another person is to be a complete person yourself. She suggests that he
go for therapy to help. At the end of the conversation, she reassures him that
everything will turn out fine.
Pancho
arrives at Robert’s office and Robert wants to know what he wants. Pancho, his
usual comedic way wants to talk things out, but Robert really wants none of it
because he can’t stand him. The argument goes back and forth and nearly goes
slapstick again. Robert says, “Pancho, who told you that you could get involved
in my life?” Pancho says, “I’d better leave before you throw a temper tantrum.”
Then he walks out the door. Pancho opens the door to tease in a cartoon
character like fashion and Robert slams the door and jumps up in anger and
frustration.
Eugenio
and Blanca talk to Daniela and tell her they are there to support her. Blanca
reminds her that at one time, she had to leave too, but she came back. Daniela
says she will stay a few days until she can decide where she will live and she
just needs a place to work on her alebrijes. Daniela gives her parents a big
hug.
Robert
talks to Tavo about his parents’ situation. Tavo says he has already done a lot
for them he has to stand back and take care of his own family. Robert asks
about Ari’s therapy and Tavo tells him he can’t tell him much, but lets Robert
know he does need support.
Ari is
at a shop getting his ear pierced.
Audi
reads scripture from Matthew 19 in front of the church congregation. The
passage is about divorce. The Pharisees ask Jesus if it is alright to divorce
one’s wife for any reason. Jesus answers
them by saying that “Have you not read that He who created them from the
beginning made them male and female, and said, therefore a man shall leave his
father and his mother and hold fast to his wife and the two shall become one
flesh? So that they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefor God has
joined together, let no one separate.” The congregation shouts, Alleluia!
In the
bakery, Polita tells Pancho that she knows that Audi is hiding something from
her, something very big. She just hopes it isn’t dangerous. Pancho says he sure
that it isn’t because most of the time he is with the family.
Catalina
comes back to Julieta’s office after her interview with Susana. Julieta says, “Mom,
what are you still doing here?” Cat excitedly exclaims, “I’m applying to be
Susana’s assistant!” Julieta says, “WHAT????” Cat says, “Well you told me to
get a job that I can do and something I am good at.” Julieta then answers, “But
not in this office and not with my boss….”
Julieta
tries to talk Susana out of hiring her mother and Susana explains that they are
women and she is the one who talks about empowering women. Catalina is hired!
Hugo
and Diana look at the food cart outside the school. She suggests that he sell
the cart so that he can pay back Julieta and Robert.
Imelda
and Crisanta continue their fighting in front of their respective shops.
The Córsegas
have the locks changed at the front of their building. Pancho says Crisanta is
going to be quite angry when she realizes her keys don’t work. Catalina comes
walking up and asks Blanca to help her learn English.
Linda
and Axel are at a lovely park. She asks, “What do you want with me, anyway?” He
answers that he doesn’t want anything with anybody. “Are you sure?” Linda says.
Then she asks about what was going on with Clarisa. He says, “Are you jealous? What
about you? Are you looking for a sexy doctor?” Then they tease each other a bit
and Linda steps away.
Susana
has brought Sebas home and she watches a video message from Pancho. Sebas is
kind of upset when he hears Pancho says he likes Susana by saying “te quiero.”
Sebas says, “Why does he tell you that he “likes” you?” Susana asks why she can’t
have a friend and Sebas refers to Pancho as a “naco.” She tells him she doesn’t
want him using that word. [Naco is a pejorative word to describe poorly educated and poorly
mannered people with bad taste. Almost akin to saying someone is a redneck.]
Sebas goes on and says he does not like Julian or the rest of the family. He is
sure that Pancho wants Susana to be his girlfriend. Sebas definitely does not want
that!
Still
outside the Córsega building, Blanca agrees to give Catalina English lessons. Audifáz
arrives and they ask where he has been. Audi says he is taking a course but
does not describe what it is exactly. Robert comes riding up on his bicycle. He
wants to know what is going on and Blanca says that they are changing locks so
Crisanta can’t come into the building. Then Temo and Ari come walking up. Audi
questions Ari about what is in his ear. Ari says, “It’s an earring.” Audi is
upset and says, “Earrings are for women and for gays.” Robert says, “I think
you are being judgmental. A lot of boys wear them. Audi become angry and says
that Ari better take off that earring or he can’t come into the house!
Yela comes
to see Julieta at the office and she give Yela an invitation to David’s party. “One
more thing,” Julieta says. “What prison is David’s biological father in?”

Thank you, Cynthia, for your wonderful recap of another enjoyable episode as this thing just moves right along. And also an excellent choice of screencap thatwas from my favorite part of the episode, I had to laugh when Pancho and Robert were in each other’s face and they are so close that Pancho inadvertently spits in Robert’s face as a result of his over animated speech and Robert has to wipe it off. Gross, I know, but funny just like the chest bump. At least Tavo could give Robert some good advice.
Then there was Imelda complaining that Crisanta’s choice of color for the hallway reminded her of a pulquería (a place that sells pulque an alcoholic beer like beverage made from the maguey plant) . How would strait laced Imelda know what a pulquería looks like? Just wondering. : )
Sometimes I think that the writer’s sit around and think about what each character’s worst nightmare would be and then bring it to being a reality in this novela. Catalina working as Susana’s assistant???? That would be pure hell for Julieta. (Eventhough I did like Susana’s point of view).
Susana needs to think of “boundaries” and not cave into bratty Sebas’ wishes that she not see Pancho. Time for her to “woman up” and act as decisively at home as she does at work. She discusses way too much with an eight (?) year old.

Thanks so much for the recap, the great screenshot and especially for those asides in red. As I've often said before, it's like a virtual family room. We "watch" together and offer our own opinions on the characters portrayed. I'm really having a hard time with Imelda--not only in how she looks but in the things she says. Yes, things can go wrong with adopting older children. But they can also go "right". And besides, laying an "I told you so" on a person when they're in a difficult situation is supremely unhelpful. Empathy and support would have been a lot better.

And while I didn’t understand the dialog last night, I certainly got her chastising him for calling her “Susana”. It’s about time she told off her ungrateful, condescending son. Blech.
I was disappointed Susana did not give a comforting “ear” to Julieta, but she had a terrible morning and was still reeling from her own emotional turmoil, which is understandable. Fortunately, Julieta was able to be a bit more compassionate in her conversation with Gabi and “explains that the only successful way of having a good relationship with another person is to be a complete person yourself.” Sound advice.

I am thoroughly enjoying Pancho and Robert. Robert especially channels his inner child and his facial expressions are priceless. Pancho really know how to push his buttons, doesn’t he?

Thank you everyone! I cannot figure out for the life of me why Catalina would even set foot near Susana and want to work for her. That makes no sense at all.
I wanted to see Pancho and Robert throwing whipped cream pies at each other. That would be something!
It was rather silly of Audi to say that only women and gays wear earrings. I know lots of straight guys who wear earrings! It's just what has been in style and means absolutely nothing.

Hello everyone! I used to be a regular here, back in the day. I guess that started with “Una Familia Con Suerte” and I stayed for a good while with different shows. I always enjoyed the excellent discussions. I have to say that I’ve really been enjoying this show, and I thought it was time to come back. Believe me, we’re just getting started with this show. In Mexico, it got renewed for a third season, so there’s plenty more to come!
It’s a wholesome and decent family-oriented show that has something for everyone. And, who doesn’t like the return of Pancho Lopez, right?
I don’t know if it would be appropriate to ask the following, but I hope someone lets me know if that’s the case. Please feel free to email me.
I know that some of the recappers for this blog watch the actual Mexican unedited episodes, and I was wondering how or where I could find them here in the US. Believe it or not, I was able to watch them on the Dailymotion site up until about episode 45, and now, I can’t seem to do that anymore.

Welcome back to the patio, JPcruzer! Your name is familiar. I knew this season had been extended but not that the novela had been renewed for a 2019 season 3. Thanks for the good news.This novela has been just “ fun” and you cannot say that about many of them. As you said, there is something for everybody and I like the pacing with lots of plots moving quite quickly along. I never saw “Una familia con suerte” but sure have heard enough about it to be able to appreciate “Pancho López” who seems to travel from novela to novela. : )
