El extraño retorno de Diana Salazar 3/16/25 Season 2 Finale NOT Series Finale
Here is hoping they do not make us wait too long for season 3.
Original second season: Episodes 7 and 8
Upon hearing that Lucas is being charged by his brother, there is shocked murmuring among those who are attending the wedding. Lucas tries to calm Lorena by saying she shouldn't worry and as long as her heart has a safe place for him, nothing can happen to him. That does nothing to calm Lorena. She thinks that his brother wants him imprisoned. She insists that they have to do something. As Rodrigo tells the captain to go and arrest the heretic, Lorena‘s eyes start to turn golden. Lucas notices and takes a step back. As the guards come to arrest Lucas, a chandelier falls on them right in front of the altar. As everybody reacts to the accident, Lucas and Lorena flee.
In the present at the hospital, Diana is telling Irene that if it weren’t for her she wouldn’t be here right now. She saved her life. She thanks her. Irene shrugs and says that coincidences are reality. She never thought that she’d ever meet anybody who had the same blood type as she had. Diana starts to say she believes less and less in coincidences but Irene cuts her short saying that it’s probably better just to avoid that subject. She instructs Diana not to lessen the dose of the medication she is prescribing for her. Diana‘s mother is going to be her eyes and ears because her mother knows how to take care of her. Diana mentions that she’s always arguing with her mother. Irene asks if not with her mother, who would she have to argue with? Her mother was very worried about her. Irene, out of nowhere, asks her who Inez is. When Diana was unconscious, she called her Inez and was talking about an "Eduardo." Diana smiles and says they are acquaintances from long ago. Diana thanks Irene again before getting on the elevator.
Malena goes to the gallery to talk to Gonzalo. He had no idea that she was coming. She came to sign off on Sandra‘s exhibition. He gives her the document to sign. She thinks that it’s probably for the best that she leaves the gallery at least for a while. He is fine with her decision if that is what she wants to do. She explains that her life is pure chaos now. She has a lot of pending restorations and now there is also the pregnancy. She returns the necklace with the two hearts that he gave her. He tells her that it was a gift. She realizes that but she can’t keep it. She starts to cry as she says it reminds her of what she could have had with him and that hurts her too much. She asks him to please take it again and he does. She tells him to take care and leaves.
Mario signs his release papers from the hospital as Irene asks if he wants a wheelchair. He says he doesn’t need one and thanks Irene for everything as she puts her arm through his. He thanks her specifically for healing him and the company she gave him. She asks if he has thought anymore about the Stanford offer. She would really be happy to go with him but she needs to know if he really wants her there with him and that he’s not doing it out of feeling obligated to her. He says that if he didn’t want her to come he never would’ve asked her in the first place. He offers to ask for a special transfer for her so that she can work on his research with him. Next, he mentions how he keeps thinking about what happened to Diana and him in the refrigeration lab. He thought that he’d never get out. Irene says he’s in shock and that’s normal. He says it’s not that. He realized that he didn’t react in the right way with Diana. Irene thinks he’s done the impossible to try to help her. Mario says that’s the problem. He always wanted to help her; to save her somehow. Sometimes, the best thing that a friend can do is just listen. Irene thinks that Diana did have somebody who listened to her and he did the best that he could. He answers maybe. She kisses him. She thinks their going to Stanford is going to be good for both of them. He agrees. They walk off together.
Diana arrives at her place and wants to talk to her mother, her father and her sister. She first recognizes that the four of them are a very unusual family but they have never talked about it. Diane thinks it’s time to change that and she also thinks she’s also speaking for her sister, when she says that they really want to understand both of their parents. They aren’t going to judge them. In order to do that, they need to know things about their parents. Emiliano asks her what things. Diana asks her mother why she always treated her different from Malena. Delfina starts by saying she didn’t treat them any differently. They are both her daughters and she’s always treated them equally. Malena is in agreement with Diana on the way they were treated differently. Her mother says the truth is that they ever since she was a little baby she saw something dark in her just like her father had in him. Emiliano thinks she’s referring to the power that he and Diana possess. That power naturally puts a wall up between them and other people. It’s part of a process. He could not avoid it. Diana asks her mother if she always knew about her father’s gifts. Her mother considers those "gifts" more of a curse. Emiliano says they just got out of control. When they are managed, those gifts can save lives. Her mother thinks that is perhaps why she was more distant with her. That is why she was so hurt when Diana left just like when Emiliano left. She knows that she sounds selfish and asks Diana to forgive her. She grabs Diana’s hand, then grabs Malena‘s and asks her to forgive her also. Diana hugs her mother and hold her sister‘s hand.
Irene and Mario arrive at his place. She asks if he needs any help. All that he wants to do is rest. He reminds her that she still has to go back to the hospital. She suggests that she could always take the day off. He answers that she’s done enough for him already and thanks her. She kisses him and leaves. Mario sends Malena a message. He will meet her at the lab in a half hour.
Malena texts Mario that she will be there. Before, she leaves, she pauses and tells her father that they still have a lot of things that they have to heal in their relationship. Malena is open to that healing if he is. He makes it clear that he’s always going to be there for her. He hugs her as she cries. She leaves and Diana is left at the table with both of her parents holding their hands.
Diana is asleep on her bed and we hear the metronome ticking slower and slower back to the 17th century. As they travel through caves, Diana, carrying a torch, tells Lucas, carrying firewood, this is the way to the cave she told him about. He asks if she is sure that they won’t go looking for them in that cave. She assures him they won't and they are less likely do so in the darkness. It turns out that the Holy Court guards are afraid of the local indigenous people. She asks him if he ever heard the legend of the sad Indian. There was once an Indian named Cuatitl who was madly in love with the daughter of a local chief. The guards think that his spirit wanders through these places. That’s why they won’t be coming. They’re afraid of him. Lucas concludes that they should be safe until dawn. They make a fire.
Malena has brought the portrait of Lorena to the lab for Mario to see. He finds the resemblance to Diana amazing. Malena believes Diana when she says that she just doesn’t look like the woman in the painting, but that they are the same person and doesn’t understand how he can just ignore the DNA test results. He says there are things that his scientific mind will not allow him to accept. That is why he wants to do another DNA test. He’s not going touch the painting itself. He’s only going to study the pigment and to determine if the blood present there is from 400 years ago. Malena would like to clarify something. The reason that she’s helping him is that through this test, they will be proving that Diana is not crazy. On the other hand, she’s not happy doing things behind her sister's back but she’s willing to take the risk. He looks at Lorena's face and sees Diana.
Back in the cave, Lorena is cold in spite of the fire. Lucas holds her. He has to confess something to her. He saw everything. He saw that it was due to her that the guards didn’t arrest him at the wedding. We have a flashback to her golden eyes. He knows that she has secrets that she hasn’t told him yet. He also wants her to know that his whole heart is hers. He’s only asking for her honesty. When they met, she dared him to tell her the truth. Now it’s his turn to give her that challenge. Lorena admits that sometimes things happen that she cannot explain. She’s able to make things happen. He asks if it’s witchcraft? She says no. She’s no witch just a different kind of woman. She thinks that he must think the very worst of her. He thinks that now he loves her more now than he ever did before. He trusts her. He is capable of doing anything for her, even giving his life. She rushes to him and kisses him. They spend a passionate night in the cave.
In the present, Diana is awakened by a knock on her door. It is Joaquín who has just stopped by to see how she’s doing. He didn’t mean to wake her up. She looks very calm. Diana explains that Leonor was very calm because she was in Lucas‘s arms. .Joaquín asks if she saw them? She nods. Yes, she did but they didn’t get married. Lucas was to be arrested for being a heretic. The more she thinks about it, Lucas and Diana were supposed to be together. Joaquín emphasizes that the most important thing now is not that but her own health. She has to rest. She wants to see the papers that the historian gave him. He is unsure whether to give them to her or not because it may not be the best time. He is concerned that she might think that whatever happened in the past is going to rule what’s happening in the present. She wants to know what he found out. She she finally grabs the folder with the copies of the documents that the historian gave him. He says she will find out that Eduardo died without any money or property. He died alone without Leonor. He adds that Eduardo ended up discredited and slandered. Joaquín guesses that he probably never was able to get back to Spain, but no one knows. Diane asks why he didn’t want to tell her any of that. She says that if he ended up alone, then it was most likely that Lucas was Leonor’s true love. Joaquín thinks that if he was or if he wasn’t her true love really doesn’t matter. It doesn’t mean that the two of them are destined to be together. He doesn’t want something that happened 400 years ago influencing what their decisions are in the present. She asks if he wouldn’t like to know if they’ve been together for the last 400 years. What he would like is for them to love each other for the people that they are today. That’s all that he can give her, nothing else. He can only give her the man that she sees before her not Lucas. She smiles and kisses him.
Sandro is walking Gonzalo through her exhibition. She is concerned about what the people coming through her exhibit and what they are going to see. He good naturedly asks since when is an artist worried about what people are going to see in their work? They’ll see what they see. Let them be. She has to agree. He thinks she’s brilliant. All she has to do is bloom like a flower or anything else. She laughs. She just wonders if he has an answer for all those nerves she’s feeling. He has a quote from that famous poet from "Eurípedo": Only with a beer! They agree on that with one beer or maybe more!
Malena gets a sample of the blood from the painting for Mario. Malena asks him the question. If the blood is 400 years old, is he finally gonna believe Diana? He says the fact that he wants to do this test at all shows that there’s at least a part of him that wants to believe Diana but his scientific brain is telling him that he has to do this test where he is sure that the process is clean and using the correct procedures. She wonders if he’s still looking for a way to contradict Diana. Being honest, Mario says he doesn’t know what he wants. He thinks right thing to do is to find out the truth and an explanation for . . . Malena asks " an explanation for what?" Mario confesses something that nobody else knows. When they were in the refrigerated lab, he saw this portrait in his head. She asks about the image in the painting he saw. It wasn’t the nun. It was the portrait that he’s looking at right now. Malena doesn’t understand why he does not accept that. There are things that science just can’t prove. She asks if he believes in God. He says that that he knows that there’s something beyond everybody, but he doesn’t believe in a God like he's portrayed in religions. She asks about fate. She mentions her father who told her that she was a woman with two hearts and now she’s pregnant. Mario thinks that everybody puts meaning to other people‘s words. Malena says that she was a little girl and Diana was just a baby. She saw shards of glass from a shattered mirror floating above her sister as she watched them. Mario asked if she thinks that her sister has the powers of telekinesis? Malena shrugs and says that Mario can tell her if she does because that is the only reason there is for what she saw. Mario has no idea but when he was a child, he saw Santa Claus in the sky. Malena thinks that he doesn’t want to accept that anything is supernatural because then he would have to change his whole belief system and that terrifies him. She wonders if she’s close to the truth. Before he can answer, there’s a knock at the door. He tells her that he is going to have a third-party run the test on the blood so there is no margin of error. Mario gives the sample to the scientist at the door saying that the sample needs to be carbon dated for its age. He knows that the results usually take about 48 hours, but he would be so happy if he could get the results earlier. The lab worker agrees. He thanks Malena for helping him out. He stares at the portrait.
Sandra tells Gonzalo that she would’ve liked for him to actually have enjoyed her exhibition. She knows that his body is going to be there, but as far as his mind goes, he could be anywhere. He asks if it’s that obvious? She knows all about his ”There’s nothing wrong here” face. They toast. He tells her to imagine being in love with a woman for years who was not interested in him and when she finally is interested in him, she’s pregnant with her former boyfriend‘s baby. She agrees that’s a serious situation and asks him what he’s going to do. He says nothing. There is nothing to do. The story is over because she’s already made her decision. The door is closed and is not going to open again. She asks him if he ever has heard the saying that when one door closes another one opens? She thinks that was from the poet "Eurípedo." They both have a good laugh. She tells him to take it easy. If he needs somebody to talk to or listen to him, she’s there for him for whatever he needs. He changes that to whatever he "wants" and adds that's dangerous. She smiles and nods. She kisses him. He kisses her back.
Malena goes to see Gael. She says it’s probably no use for them to talk about the same thing over and over again. He says that he’s sure about being with her. That has nothing to do with what might have happened in the past with Gonzalo. The problem is that he doesn’t know what she wants. She admits that her indecision isn’t helping right now but her head is telling her that they have to be together for the sake of their baby. Gael says he never thought that he would be asking her what her heart is telling her to do. She says she can’t just be thinking about herself. She has to be thinking for two people. Gael looks very sad and says that isn’t what he’s asking her. She wants them to give themselves another chance as a couple again and to fall in love with each other again so that they’re in a good place. Gael looks reluctant but then says that’s what he wants too. He thinks maybe they can plan a simple wedding in two or three months. They could even have it at the convent in Zacatecas. Malena looks tense. It is clear that is not what Malena is thinking about. She wants things to go on like they are. She wants to be with him but he knows that she does not want to get married. He explains that that since they were having a baby together, then it would be a good thing to get married. Also, he’s tired of apologizing if that’s what she wants or if that’s what she doesn’t want. He asks what does she want from him anyway. Malena gets a great big smile on her face and grabs him and kisses him. A sex scene follows.
At the same time, Gonzalo is having sex with Sandra.
In her mind, Malena is having sex with Gonzalo. In Gonzalo‘s mind, he’s having sex with Malena.
Back in the 17th century, Lorena and Lucas are lying on her wedding dress next to the fire. She wakes up. Lucas tells her good morning. He has to admit that this wasn’t his idea for their wedding night, but it was enough for him just having her by his side. She smiles and kisses him. He says if that’s how she’s going to say good morning to him, he wants to wake up with her by his side every day of his life. Lucas hates to admit it, but they’ve got to get going. She takes a moment to look at his face and stroke his hair. She thanks him. He asks why is she thanking him when he should be thanking her because he is still alive and free. She has nothing to thank him for. She puts her finger on his lips and shushes him. She thanks him for loving her as she is like he does.
Gustavo is complaining to Rodrigo about the incompetence of the guards. He asks how Lucas and his daughter disappeared like ghosts. Rodrigo assures them that they’re doing all that they can to find the count. Ana asks about her daughter. They can burn Lucas at the stake for all she cares but what about her daughter? Rodrigo tells Ana and Gustavo to please calm down. Rodrigo is certain that they will find them both. Gustavo then looks at Ana and says that they thought that Lucas would be a good match for their daughter not that he merely only wanted to corrupt her. That is why he kidnapped her. Rodrigo thinks that it’s best not to make such quick conclusions. They all saw Lorena and Lucas escape together. It didn’t look like any kind of kidnapping. Inez offers her assistance for anything that Anna might need. Rodrigo advises Inez to go rest. She has a busy afternoon ahead with the annulment of her marriage on the schedule. She agrees. Gustavo thanked her for her presence.
Rather than going to her own room, Inez goes to Lorena‘s room. She scans the room looking at Lorena‘s possessions. She ends up at the vanity where she opens a bottle of perfume. She then opens a drawer and finds the dress that Lorena wore in the portrait. She looks at the portrait and tells Lorena that she’s going to remove her mask of hypocrisy. She puts on the dress and then uses Lorena‘s make up and perfume to prepare for the annulment hearing. She mocks Lorena, pretending to be her addressing Eduardo "Of course, they can take a tour of the city. His wife surely won’t be jealous. Will she?" She poses as Lorena in the mirror.
Back in the present, Diana awakens with her head on Lucas‘s chest. She looks up at him.
Malena and Gael wake up together with him asking for some of her savage kisses. He laughs after she gives him one. Suddenly, Malena doesn’t look too well. She has to make a run for the washroom before she throws up. He’s left alone in the bed.
At the hospital, Irene is giving a presentation about high risk pregnancies. Everyone applauds as she ends. Irene welcomes Diana back now that she’s safe and sound. The next item on the agenda are the adjustments to Mario’s research moving to Stanford. In the second phase, he will be monitoring all of their work remotely. Diana notices that there’s a problem because she doesn’t have any copies of the second phase of the study. Irene says she will not participate in this second part of the research. She’ll talk to her after the meeting. Diana doesn’t want to wait and puts her on the spot. She wants an answer and she wants it now. Irene explains that she was given no patients in the second phase because they have decided to suspend her from her duties at the hospital. Diana wants to know who made that decision.
Later in their boss’s Dr. Mayol’s office, Diana asks him what’s going on. He says that Diana's superior made the decision regarding her state of mind. Diana comes to the conclusion that it was Irene‘s decision. Irene says every day her mental state is worse. She can’t keep working like that. Diana disagrees saying that she’s proven that she can take care of her patients perfectly well. She wants to know what kind of arguments can be used against her? Her boss says that Irene has told her about a situation that has left him speechless. Diane wants to know what situation that was. He explains that she used the laboratory at the hospital to do personal DNA tests. Diana admits to having done that. He explains that is way out of bounds of what their protocol demands. The worst part of it is that patients were waiting for the results of their tests just so that she could get her DNA testing done. Diana apologizes but that’s not good enough for him. He admits he has never had a complaint about her but this went way beyond any limits. What she did was unacceptable. Diana can’t defend herself. He says that she has to give more attention to her mental and emotional state. Diane sees this is a personal vendetta on the part of Irene. Irene tells Dr. Mayol that’s exactly what she was telling him about. Diana has delusions of persecution. Diana asks her if she wants to admit in front of her boss that what she really wants is to go to bed with Mario. Irene tells her not to be rude about it. Her relationship with Mario has nothing to do with her. Dr. Mayol tells Diana that she said enough. She agrees that there’s nothing that she can say to convince him to believe her instead of Irene. Due to the friendship and affection that he’s had for her due to them working together for so many years, he offers offers to write her a letter of recommendation for a job at another hospital. That comes with a condition, however. She needs to get help first. Diana looks at him with contempt but then her expression changes and she thinks him. He asks her to please clear out her belongings. He’s very sorry. She gives Irene a good long, hateful look and then she leaves.
Gael asks Malena if she’s okay. She says she’s not used to getting these bouts of nausea. She laughs as she refers to it as the "miracle of life." He says that he has emptied out a few drawers and her part of the closet. He doesn’t want her to feel pressured but when she’s ready, he would love to have her back. He gives her a glass of water. He’s going to the lab but he’ll see her in a little bit. They kiss. She tells him to have a good day. She is not smiling when he leaves.
Santelmo is telling Mario and Gael that finishing the the research at Stanford is important for him and also for their lab. He thanks Gail for doing everything that he did to help the transfer. Gail says there’s nothing to thank because Mario’s work deserves to be seen by everybody. Santelmo gets a message on his phone. His eyes open wide with surprise. He is getting messages from his contacts about news about his lab. It has to do with the incident that they had with the refrigerated lab. It has hit the news. The headline says two doctors were hospitalized for emergencies after they were trapped in a refrigerated Santelmo Lab. Santelmo asks Mario if he told anyone. Mario says of course not. Somebody at the hospital must have said something. Gael concludes that this isn’t a good image for their labs especially since now since they are starting a collaboration with Stanford. Santelmo hopes that this situation will not affect the negotiations on Mario’s research.
Diana arrives home in a bad mood. Malena is washing dishes. Diana asks where her parents are. Malena says that her mom went to the supermarket and she has no idea where her dad went to. Malena asks her if everything‘s okay. Diana tells her that she got suspended from the hospital. Malena can’t believe it. Diana says that bitch Irene accused her of being crazy and Doctor Mayol believed her. It had to do with the DNA test. If she could only prove that all this is a lie and stick it to Malena. They also suggested strongly that she go to an insane asylum before trying to get work at another hospital. Malena doesn’t know what to say to her except to offer her help if she can do anything for her. Diana says she can’t do a thing but talk to her about something else that doesn’t have to do with her problems. Malena admits to being more confused than ever even though she sure that she wants to have the baby. The issue is that she doesn’t know who she wants to raise it with. If she’s going with the way that her heart feels she wants to raise it with Gonzalo but then if she’s thinking about it logically with her head, it would be with Gail. She adds it would also have to do with her libido. Diana asked her if she had sex with Gael. Her sister says that she never knew make up sex could be so good. Malena wonders if it was the hormones. Diana laughs. Malena says then on top of it all it gets worse because Gael wants her to come back and live with him and she doesn’t know if she’s ready for all that. She doesn’t want go on fighting. She’s too confused. Diane smiles and shakes her head.
Back in the 17th century, a tearful Inez, dressed in Lorena’s portrait dress, and Eduardo are in Rodrigo‘s office for the annulment hearing. Rodrigo wants to make sure that Inez is there on her own volition and explains that the decision will be sacred and definitive. She says that she does understand that. He annuls the marriage of Eduardo and Inez Carbajal for the immoral actions of one of the parties. As the victim, Inez Betancourt will be the sole benefactor of all of the wealth and property that came from this familial union. Rodrigo asked Eduardo if he understands what this means. Eduardo acknowledges that he is the one who broke his sacred vows. All that he asks is that out of mercy, he be allowed to return to Spain. Rodrigo asks Inez what she thinks. She will grant him permission to go back to Spain. Before they sign the final documents, Inez offers Eduardo a last-minute chance to reconsider the situation. They can be together again. Eduardo takes a minute to think, and then tells her that he hopes that she can forgive him. Eduardo signs the document. Before signing herself, Inez says that she will live to see him regret this day. She finally signs the document. Eduardo gets up and leaves.
As Eduardo leaves, he is approached by Ofelia who is very upset. She tells him that Lorena is gone and nobody knows where she went. Eduardo doesn’t know what’s going on. He thought that she got married to the count. Ofelia explains what happened. She goes on to explain that Rodrigo and the Holy Court are hunting Count Lucas. He has to be with Leonor. She asks Eduardo to do something.
Somebody rings the doorbell at Diana‘s place. It is Irene. Diana doesn’t know how she has the nerve to show up at her house. Irene insists that she has to talk to her and pushes past Diana. Diana doesn’t know what she should say except for "f*ck you." Irene insists that she comes in good faith. She has come with a pamphlet for a very good psychiatric clinic. They have one on one counseling that is excellent. On the verge of tears and going on a rampage. Diana asks: who does she think she is? Her guardian angel? She throws the pamphlet back at Irene. She recognizes that Irene has already won. She got promoted to the head of the department and she got Mario. What more does she want from her? Irene says she wants to help her Diana Diana answers that she has other people who can help her and tries to lead her to the door. Irene stays put and asks if she is referring to Joaquín. Irene says that would be the blind leading the blind. Diana shouts in her face that the only one who is blind is her. With a smirk, Irene says that Mario was right. Diane is crazy. Diana's eyes start to glow golden. She says not a word more. Irene says "Diana. . ." and the next thing she feels is a terrible pain and suddenly she can’t see. She calls to Diana over and over for help but Diana is silent and motionless.
Upstairs, Malena is on a ladder working on the restoration of a painting when she hears shouting from downstairs between Diana and Irene. She looks concerned as she listens. Diana continues staring straight ahead as if in a trance. Irene is stumbling around the room calling out to her for help. There is a loud noise from upstairs. The trance breaks, Diana blinks and her eyes that are back to normal. Irene recovers her sight. Diana thinks of her sister and goes running upstairs to check on her. Irene follows her. Diana finds Malena unconscious on the floor. She checks her pulse and keeps repeating that "It can’t be. It can’t be." Diana calls out to Irene to help her because her sister is pregnant. Diana cannot believe that this is happening. Irene steps in and tries to help Malena.
At the hospital, Irene meets Mario. He asks what happened. She says that Malena was working and Diana… That’s where she pauses and says that she doesn’t have the slightest idea. She then says that Diane lost control and she attacked her. Mario asked how? Irene says she doesn’t know how she did it but she did attack her. Mario doesn’t understand what she did to Irene. She said that she was blind for a few seconds, she couldn’t see. Mario asks if she is suggesting that…? Irene says she’s not suggesting anything. She has no idea how Diana did it, but she looked at her in a way that she has never seen before. Her eyes turned a yellowish color. Irene knows that it sounds crazy. She hears herself talking and it does sound crazy. She has no idea if it was something to do with shamanism, energy or whatever but it was not normal. The woman is dangerous. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with her.
Mario gets a phone call from Dr. Santelmo. He wants to talk to him. Mario says he’s on his way.
Diana accompanies Malena and Gail to an obstetrician. The doctor asks what happened. Malena explains that she was restoring a painting and was working on a ladder. Suddenly, everything went dark. She got scared. She stepped wrong and fell. Diana asks what she means by everything went dark. Malena says it was as if she were blind for a few seconds. They do an ultrasound. Unfortunately, the doctor can’t find a fetal heartbeat. Diana stands against the wall in sadness as she watches her sister and Gael react to the bad news.Diana thinks back to the time when she was a little baby and the shards of the mirror were hanging over her crib, the short circuit in the lights at the floatarium, She thinks that Mario was probably right when he said that she was crazy. She remembers staring at Irene and watching her suffer. All she can do is cry. She leaves her sister with Gael.
Santelmo tells Mario that Stanford called and they want to withdraw from their negotiations with them . Mario asks why. Santelmo got a letter yesterday from lawyers representing Heinrich Labs. Mario knows nothing about those labs. Santelmo explains that the lab belongs to an ex-colleague of his. That would be Olga Heinrich who swears that he stole some research from her years ago. They have to stop all activity having to do with the research. Mario asks what his research has to do with this. Santelmo explains that they are alleging that the patents do not belong to them. Mario is angry because he was counting on Stanford. They have stopped the procedures at the hospital and their patients are counting on the trials. Santelmo tells him that he’s not understanding what he’s saying. They can’t continue. They would have to pay them multi millions in fines order to do so. Mario asks if that means that he will not be able to finish his trials. Santelmo answers not in the same way. They would have to start from zero. He is really very sorry.
Gael helps Malena return to her home where her mother is waiting for her. Her father Emiliano is there to hold her as she cries.
Later in the kitchen as Delfina cooks, Emiliano comments about how terrible an accident that was. Delfina make sure that he knows that Malena lost her vision all of a sudden without any reason. Emiliano starts to talk and she cuts him off. She’s not going allow him tell her that blindness is common during pregnancy because it isn’t. Delfina says it was no accident just like when the mirror broke at home 30 years ago. Diana was at home at the time of the accident. At the moment of the accident, she was arguing with Irene. Emiliano asks her if she really thinks that Diana had something to do with what happened to Malena. Delfina asks if he doesn’t think that Diana had something to do with it. Emiliano says if that’s the case then they’re going to have to be very careful with how they react to Diana. Delfina doesn’t think that they can keep on treating Diane like she’s made out of glass. Emiliano asks what she suggests. Does she think that Diana should put some distance between herself and the people that she loves? Does she think that her daughter should go live off on her own all by herself? Just like he did? Emiliano asks Delfina if she really wants that.
After a montage of sex scenes, Lorena and Lucas are walking towards the opening of the cave when they see shadows of people towards the entrance. Lucas recognizes them as soldiers. They try to flee back farther into the cave but they are ordered to stop in the name of the King.
In the next scene, Lucas is chained to the wall of jail cell. His brother comes to see him. Lucas says all that he’s asking for is a drink of water. Rodrigo has a great big smile as he addresses his dear brother and asks him how he’s doing. He sits and drinks some wine from a bota in front of Lucas. He comments on the value of a good rioja wine in the warm and humid weather. He adds that if his brother cooperates, in less than an hour he can be enjoying a feast of roast suckling pig Viscaya style with a good bottle of wine and plenty of water. He could be living the life of the count he is once more! Rodrigo informs him that if he isn’t ready uncover who the sinner is, there are other ways to make him talk. Lucas looks at him and asks him if he would be willing to torture his own brother? Rodrigo takes umbrage with that comment. "How could he ?.." he asks. Rodrigo tells a guard to bring some water. Rodrigo thinks he can easily avoid all this. All he has to do is swear that it was Leonor who asked him to hide those idols. Lucas says he has no idea what he’s talking about. Rodrigo is exasperated because he knows that Lucas knows. Of course he knows! Rodrigo pours a cup of water for Lucas. He tells him not to drown himself anymore in that kind of sh*t that he’s telling himself. He can start from scratch, have a new life and be with a new woman that doesn’t have all of these faults and sins like that mestiza (a woman who has European and indigenous ancestry) witch. He can be out of there immediately. Lucas insists he will never do that. Rodrigo shakes his head in exasperation and pours the cup full of water the ground. Rodrigo looks at him closely and says what a pity. He turns and leaves. Lucas stands defiantly in his cell.
Ana and Gustavo are filling Eduardo in on everything that happened. Ana says that her daughter wasn’t kidnapped by the count. Unable to say anything more about her daughter‘s compromised situation, Gustavo says that Lorena was with "the count" on her own volition if a man as degenerate as Lucas is can still be called a count. Now she’s being accused of helping a fugitive from the High Court. Gustavo says they all know that this isn’t the first time that this has happened. Anna says that is why they are asking him to please respect their shame. They ask him to look at all of the damage they and Inez have suffered. Ana asks Eduardo to leave them alone and never come back. Eduardo agrees to Ana's' request but not before Gustavo apologizes to him for having conspired against him along with governor Otalora in his corruption. Eduardo admits that he was no angel but his worst sin was loving their daughter. Gustavo agrees that was the worst thing because he knew that his daughter was promised to another man. Ana adds that he turned their home into an inferno, just like in Dante. Ana tells him to get out. Eduardo leaves. Inez sadly watches from another room.
Down in the kitchen, Ofelia is feeding her niece who has been set free. Inez is eavesdropping ever in the service of Rodrigo. Ofelia wonders what will become of Leonor. Her niece says that she owes Leonor her life and her freedom. If she had not helped her hide the idols, she would be dead. They have to help her. Inez withdraws having heard that juicy piece of information.
Diana wakes up in her car in the forest. She gets out and looks around.
Gael is at Malena‘s place. He’s making her some chilaquiles. He asks her if she like some coffee or some tea she says no. Emiliano comes in and asks her how she’s feeling. She admits that she’s feeling better. He asks if she knows where her sister is. She doesn’t. Emiliano says that she didn’t come home last night and has not answered his calls. He doesn’t want to get ahead of himself, but he also talked to Joaquín and nobody knows where she is. Emiliano asks if maybe she went to sleep at the hospital. Malena says that couldn’t be because she’s been suspended. Delfina asks how she got suspended? Malena doesn’t know. Emiliano thinks that he needs to go looking for her now.
At Mario’s, Irene comes out of the shower. She asks what he’s thinking about. He’s thinking about what he’s going tell his patients when he has to tell them that everything that they’ve done has gone to hell because of this stupidity. Irene says this doesn’t mean that his research is over. They’ll find another way to do it. Mario says at the present time he doesn’t see any other way. What really bothers him is that the promise that he made to his dead wife Reina. He sees that promises slipping away from him. Mario apologizes to Irene knowing how she was excited about going. She admits that she was but Mario can start from zero again anywhere. The important thing is that they’re together. He gets a call from Malena. He has to answer.
Mario tells Malena that he knows all about her fall. Malena makes it clear that she’s not there to talk about herself. The problem is Diana. They can’t find her. She asks if he knows anything about where Diana might be. The last thing that he heard about Diana was what Irene told him. Malena asks him if he knows why Diana was arguing with Irene. He says no, truthfully he doesn’t. Irene told him that her sister got very angry. She doesn’t know how Diana did it but she ended up going blind for a few seconds. Malena thinks back to her own experience on the ladder hearing Diana tell Irene that she was the blind one who couldn’t see below the surface then Irene telling her that Mario was right and that she was crazy. It was then that Malena lost her vision and fell off the ladder. Mario brings Malena back to the present. Malena is visibly puzzled when the call is over.Gael thinks that Diana must have just been really sad and decided to go off by herself. Nothing else. Malena has a lot to think about.
Emiliano thinks he has found Diana when he sees her car parked in the clearing in the forest. .Joaquín has come along for the ride along with Delfina. Joaquín calls out to Diana but she’s not in the car. Delfina thinks Diana is nearby. She explains that when Emiliano left, they left Zacatecas and they came to live here. They lived in a little cabin that belonged to some friends. Delfina will lead them there.
Mario is on a on a rampage to the Heinrich Lab and bursts into Olga‘s office. Olga tells her secretary that she will take care of it. Olga greets him with a great big smile. She tells the secretary to leave them alone and close the door. She starts by insisting that he call her DOCTOR Olga as she’s going call him, Dr. Mario. He says that she should be ashamed of herself. It’s people like her that give the medical profession a bad name. She smirks. He goes on to talk about adhering to a code of ethics as physicians. They all swore never to cause any harm. Smirkingly, she says that she knows all about that. He says what she has done is a clear case of espionage. He’s going to make sure that she ends up in prison. She thinks that it is a pity that they had to meet in these kinds of circumstances. She’s a great admirer of his work. He has an excellent reputation. He’s happy that she likes his work because he’s going to get it back no matter what. Still smirking, she says that they’ll be seeing a lot of of each other but for now, it’s time for him to go. She has things to do. As he’s leaving, she tells him to give her regards to Dr. Santelmo. Mario leaves. She’s left still in her smirking good mood.
Emiliano finds Diana looking out over the forest. She asks how he knew that she would be there. He says that her mother knows her better than she thinks she does. Diana says from here there’s a path that goes to the cabin, where she, her mother and sister lived. As a girl, she would come to the spot thinking that she would see him coming back and how happy they would be. But that never happened. She spent many afternoons thinking and asking herself why she felt so different from her mother and her sister. She thought about him, her father. She just wanted to know if he felt the same way that she did. Emiliano says that he felt the same way for many years. He had no idea what to do with himself. That is why he isolated himself. He thought he had to understand himself in order to understand his place in the world. When he finally accepted what was happening to him, he could see his mistakes, his successes, everything. He knows that it’s going take time for her to see everything as he does with such clarity but one day she will understand that what happened to Malena was not her fault. Diana tells her father that she judged him for many years because he had distanced himself from all of them but now she understands that he did it. it was in order to protect them. Now that is what she thinks she has to do. Joaquín and Delfina watch from afar. Diana has to put some distance between her and her loved ones. Emiliano says that’s not the answer. He thought that he had to go away from everyone and punish himself in order to earn their forgiveness. He was wrong. What he really needed to do was to share the burden he was carrying. He needed to share everything that was weighing him down in order to break the cycle he was trapped in. He asks her to understand him and not to make the same mistakes that he did. He tells her to share her load with him. He will help her. He is there for her always. Diana allows her father to hug her. Diana tells him that he’s right. She needs help. Delfina smiles at the two of them.
Malena looks at the portrait. Gael brings her some food and tells her that she needs to eat or else she’s not gonna feel any better. Gael says that someday they will get over this. He says that people are forged through the difficult parts of their lives. These experiences will make them stronger and more together unless the only reason she was with him was because of the baby. Malena is silent.
Mario is back in the lab telling a fellow worker that he just can’t allow himself to be robbed like this. Somebody took the information right from under his nose and he doesn’t know who. They review the security footage from the lab and Mario sees Gael stealing his research.
Diana arrives at her house. Malena comes downstairs. Diana hugs her but Malena doesn’t hug her back. She tells her sister how sorry she is. She asks Malena to please forgive her. Malena doesn’t forgive her but says that she’s glad that her sister is okay. Malena goes back upstairs. Diana is crying. Joaquín hugs her and tries to console her. Joaquiín says that her sister has been through a very difficult time and that she has to give her sister time.
At Gonzalo’s, Sandra asks him what he wants to eat. He says anything is fine by him because he is reading a message from Malena on his phone. Sandra is ready for more sex. She suggests it as their dessert. She says she’s going to order something and picks up his phone. She sees what he was looking at. He seems to be in his own world for a moment, but she puts down his phone. She asks him exactly where are they going with their relationship. She wants to know if they are just having casual sex. If that’s the case, that’s fine but if he wants something more, she would like to know because there’s something that she has to tell him. He says that having known each other for ten years and now having found each other again, he doesn’t see this as just casual sex. She feels the same. She has something to show him. They sit on the couch and she tells him that her ex Mauricio and she have a son. She shows him his picture. His name is Luis and she wants Gonzalo to meet him. He thinks that he is a handsome boy and congratulates. She explains that she’s in the middle of a pretty complicated situation dealing with fighting for custody of her son. Her life isn’t exactly easy right now but then, who’s got a simple life these days?
Joaquín goes to see Irene at work. He asks if she remembers him. She says she does. He is Diana‘s boyfriend. Joaquín says that he heard that she had an incident with Diana. She said she’d rather not talk about that with him. He says he is the right person because he knows Diane better than anyone. Irene says then he must be well aware that Diana is not a stable person. She’s dangerous. Irene doesn’t say that lightly. Joaquin says he’s not saying anything lightly either. She thinks that Diana needs to be supervised and that they need to look for somebody who can be responsible for her. .Joaquin tells her that he thinks that there are lots of people responsible in the situation. Irene is not about to accept that she and Mario had anything to do with the situation. They are the victims. Joaquín knows nothing about victims. What he does know is that she has more to do with Diana, much more to do with Diana than she has any idea of. He says this is a concern of the four of them. Irene laughs and asked where does he get this stuff from? Does he get it from his pseudoscience books? She says no wonder Diane is in such bad shape. Joaquín insists that neither he or Diana are crazy. The connection between the four of them is real and he knows that Irene feels it. She asked what he’s talking about. He asks her if she didn’t feel anything during that incident when she lost her eyesight. How does she know that Diana caused that when Diana didn’t touch her? Irene is at a loss for words as Joaquín continues and reiterates that they’re all connected. They are connected in this life and in a past life. He has no idea of how it exactly works, but he’s trying to find an explanation. He has a notebook for her with information she might be interested in. She is not interested. What he thinks is that they have to take care of the debts that they were responsible for in their past lives in the present if they want to get rid of all of this. He has seen her and so has Diana. They all met 400 years ago. She is silent but ends up taking the notebook. She starts to read as she and Joaquín share uncomfortable glances as he makes his way out.
Back in the 17th century, Inez is telling Rodrigo that she heard with her own ears what that Indian woman had to say to Ofelia. She was grateful to Leonor for helping her hide the idols. Rodrigo concludes that the little beast is Ofelia‘s niece.Ofelia is the housekeeper for Diana‘s family. Rodrigo can conclude that the idols did not belong to his brother. It was Leonor who got him into this whole mess. Rodrigo tells Inez that she has done the right thing. She kisses his ring as he says thank you and she leaves.
Eduardo goes directly to the the building where Leonor is being held. The guards will not let him enter. He realizes that his efforts are going to be useless just like the two guards he declares as useless. He adds that the king of Spain is gonna hear about this. He calls out to Leonor telling her to have patience because he will get her out of there. He promises her and tells to not give up. With a strong look of disgust at the soldiers, he turns and leaves.
Rodrigo next terrorizes Ofelia in his office. On his desk, he has all of the indigenous gods on display. She is crying in fear. He tells her to ask her gods to help her. He adds that she and he both know that these little figures belong to her niece.. He tells her that they still have time to save her niece. Leonor’s offenses can make up for those of her niece. He asks her to weigh the alternatives out on a scale. Rodrigo says all that he wants her to do is to say that it was Lorena who involved his brother in order to hide the figures. He would never ask her to lie! His religious investiture would prohibit him from doing so. Using each hand as if they were the side of a scale, Rodrigo asked Ofelia what she wants to do Save Lorena‘s life or that of her dear niece?
Ofelia chooses her niece because in the next scene Lorena is formally convicted of heresy against the Holy Catholic Church. A hooded man whips Lorena. Rodrigo appears saying that her situation hurts him more than it does her. She’s a lady of society, a white woman. She was going to be his sister-in-law. She was going to have the life that any woman would yearn for but just look at her. Look at where she is. She is in the hands of God. She shamed her family. She’s involved in this matter of adultery and witchcraft but the goodness of our Lord is so great that He is open to forgiving her. Rodrigo says that on the other side of the wall, he has Ofelia her housekeeper. He has arrested her. She is the one who gave her up. He asks Leonor to confess her heresy. She moves closer to him as he moves his ear closer to her thinking that she has something to say that he wants to hear like a confession. Instead, she spits in his face. They continue to whip her. Rodrigo says that they can spend their time like this. Leonor finally says that she’s going to confess. Rodrigo asks what exactly is she going to confess to? She confesses that she had a relationship outside of the bonds of marriage with Eduardo. Rodrigo asks what she has to say about the indigenous pagan statues? She admits to only tarnishing her honor for love. That is all she did. They can kill her by whipping her to death, but she has nothing else to confess to. They continue to whip her.
In the present, Diana suddenly awakens in fear. Joaquin recognizes that she didn’t sleep very well at all saying that she was tossing and turning all night. She explains that no matter how she wants to stop seeing Leonor‘s life, she can’t. Last night before she fell asleep, she was thinking maybe”Happily Ever After!” isn’t for her. She isn’t saying it for him, she’s saying it for herself. She can’t live knowing that the people she loves will get hurt just for being with her. No matter how painful it is, she’s come to the conclusion that there’s only one solution.
Mario pays Gael a visit. He asks Gael if he thinks that he can take him for being an idiot and then act so innocently? Mario does not know how he could steal his research. They both spent so much time and effort. Is he going to deny that too? Gael tries to excuse himself from talking to him right now because Malena lost her baby. Mario takes a breath and says that he’s so sorry to hear that. Gael is on the verge of tears.
Diana has brought all of her family members and friends together to make an announcement. She thanks them all for coming. Mario asks what’s happening because when he talked to her on the phone, she sounded worried. Her mother says that Diana has made her decision and wants to share it with them. Diana announces that she’s going to go to a psychiatric hospital. Mario asks her if she’s being serious. Joaquín says that was his reaction also. They won’t be able to cure her better than what they can do at home with her family being cared for by people who love her. Mario agrees with Joaquin. Diana says she’s already made the decision. She is going voluntarily. Mario asks why? She says because everybody seated here knows that there’s something in her that isn’t quite right. Malena sits quietly looking at the floor. Emiliano asks what she’s talking about. Diana says that things are happening that she just cannot explain. She has put other people at risk. She has put herself at risk. She hurt Irene. She looks at Mario and says that he and she almost died of hypothermia in the lab. Joaquín insists that going to a hospital is not the answer. Diana adds that she hurt her own sister and her baby. Malena starts to cry. Mario insists that there has to be another solution. Diana says this is the only way she can think of where she will stop being a danger to others.
As we see Diana being admitted into the hospital in the future, Diana knows that, as a doctor, she needs to understand what is going on with her. She refuses to put them at risk in that process. She says it doesn’t have to be a long-term decision but she at least needs to give it a try. In the future, Diana starts taking meds at the psychiatric hospital. In the present, Diana's mother offers to guide her and support her. Diane turns her down. the decision is made. Everyone starts to leave.
In the past, Leonor puts on the heretic robe, covering her beaten and bruised body.
In the future, Diana is being admitted to the psychiatric hospital. She is giving her sister Malena all rights as her medical power of attorney including the length of her day at the hospital and discharge. Malena signs. The admissions officer at the hospital says that they have to ask the patient’s representative if they think that the patient is a danger to herself or others. In tears, Malena has to admit that her sister is. Diana cries, too.
In the past, Leonor’s hands are tied and she has been led outside of the prison to be paraded in front of the towns people on the way to? being burned at the stake? Her mother has to wipe away tears. Her father looks emotional. Eduardo stares from the crowd. Ofelia looks down from a balcony. Diana manages a smile for her. Inez smirks from the crowd. Diana stares ahead.
In the present, Mario is having a beer. He gets a call. Dr. Martinez is calling him with the results of the the blood sample. The doctor recognizes that the sample has proven to be human blood and according to their analysis, it is 300 to 400 years old. Mario asks how well does the DNA match the blood of Diana. The doctor says it’s a 99.99% match. Mario was left shocked.
Leonor continues her heretic march.
Inez continues to smirk.
In the present day, Diana is led to her room at the psychiatric hospital.
Irene goes to her own home, where she has a portrait that she has found evidently due to the information that Joaquín gave her. She has a woman's portrait that looks to be of Inez. She looks just like Irene as she views herself and the lady in the painting. In the mirror across from the painting, Irene tries to imitate Inez's pose down to the positioning of her hand.
FIN
Issues: We saw Eduardo on the rack this season in a flashabck or montage if some sort but he has not been arrested at the end of this season so I am supposing that Lorena has not been branded yet. When does that take place? How long will Diana remain hospitalized? How will Mario deal with his “scientific brain” not being able to deal with the reality of the DNA/blood age tests? Has Irene turned into a believer with her apparent attraction to the Inez portrait? So many questions . . .
It is too bad that Diana has never learned to control her gift so she could use it as needed.
Good use of sex scenes showing that Gonzalo and Malena haven’t really moved on.
Mopey Malena still gets on my last nerve so much so that I actually felt sorry for Gael.
First, thank you for noting this is only the season finale. Whew! I swallowed my disappointment at the last scene and am so relieved this is not the end. Interesting that the present is as compelling as the past, although both are pain riddled intrigue.
"In the past, Leonor’s hands are tied and she has been led outside of the prison to be paraded in front of the towns people on the way to? being burned at the stake?"... Eduardo stares from the crowd". Had Lucas not been impisoned, he would not have hung back in the shadows, but would have rushed to her side, consequences be damned. That is but one reason why I hope Diana ends up with Joaquin. What a chilling scene.
Much of this was very hard to watch. Heartbreaking that Malena lost her baby.
Irene/Inés - both so very chilling. Both. I could hardly believe Irene chased Diana, invading her home after she cause Diana to be fired. And Inés is just a blood thirsty beyotch. How dense is Mario?? Manipulated in business and in love. Wake up dude.
Jarifa, thank you, thank you. More tomorrow.
Diana
I needed help in the scenes with the Cardinal. I lose track of the plot when he is involved. What a horrible person.
Has any else searched for info on this series and wished the original would also be re aired. It has high ratings and sounds equally intriguing to watch. Maybe ViX will acquire the rights when this series finishes.
I'm thinking Gonzalo is a dad and his ex chose another guy over him 10 years ago. Pretty much what he wished Malena would do with her pregnancy.
"We saw Eduardo on the rack this season in a flashabck or montage if some sort but he has not been arrested at the end of this season so I am supposing that Lorena has not been branded yet..." If Eduardo was to be arrested I thought it would have happened by now? I'm thinking Inez is concocting something so she can be free of Eduardo once and for all now that she has his money and possessions. The whipping of Lorena was horrible; the branding will be worse.
"It is too bad that Diana has never learned to control her gift so she could use it as needed" is so true. I felt so badly for Malena.
Diana
I felt bad about Malena’s baby, too, but cannot deal with her indecisiveness. Maybe she needs to be by herself if she can’t make up her mind. Her attitude has been selfish.
Diana has to end up with Joaquín please! Mario is such an unemotional blockhead. I will add your “dense” to him, too. What will he do when he finds out that his dear Irene has defected to the believer side? That will be something. What will the new test results do to his purely poorly logical noggin by next season?
I would have liked to have seen Diana go off with her father for a while. As for Malena being her medical POA ? I would have rather seen her mother or father in that role. Malena has too much emotion invested in her sister’s role in her miscarriage. Could that turn punitive? One would hope not since the occurrence of the strange power was not intentional.
That last scene with Irene was so very creepy. Yikes!
Rodrigo is such a disgusting , arrogant , self-entitled and evil character. He is so creepy.
I hadn’t thought that Gonzalo could be the real father of Sandra’s child. That is a real possibility and could be a satisfying ending for Gonzalo.
I'll look for it on ViX. I have the free version. I didn't think to look for it there. 196 episodes is a lot! When I have nothing to catch up with on current shows I've been watching Nuevo Rico, Nuevo pobre on ViX or Telemundo, I can't recall which. I'm not loving it and some of the characters speak so fast it would be impossible to figure out what they say without CC's. I was surprised by that one as the Colombian actors are generally easier for me to understand.
If Gonzalo is the dad then he would be better off with Sandra, as long as he could forgive her for not letting him know all these years. Malena really doesn't know who she wants and the fear of commitment ( she doesn't want to get married) leaves her never truly vested in her relationships. She should be seeing a psychologist. I'm sure it goes back to abandonment issues with her dad.
Did anyone else wonder if they are back in the house they lived in the first 6 years or so. That staircase looked the same as young Malena walked down when she saw the mirror shards dangling above baby Diana.
P.s. My water tank leaked, so I am dealing with the clean up and the insurance company .....also torture,. Susan
I wonder if we will see something develop in Season 3. As Jarifa noted, Rodrigo is disgusting (among many other things), he and Inez deserve each other.
Diana
Malena knows her sister has issues beyond her control. Sad that Malena miscarried, but would it have killed her to show some understanding/forgiveness for Diana since it was an accident?
Irene seems tickled pink that 400 years ago her look-alike was a queen bitch too.
Rodrigo loves his power. I wouldn't put it past him to be after Inez for her wealth. He hates Lucas and obviously enjoyed torturing him with the drinking water.
Looking forward to Season 3 whenever it drops.
I guess that I was way too into the dialog to notice the connection between Inez and Rodrigo. That could prove to be interesting and disgusting.; )
I remember having read somewhere/heard somewhere on the internet that this was to have three seasons. Here is hoping that is the case. Sometimes shorter is better.
This seems to be Cassandra Sánchez Navarro’s (Irene/Inez) and Erick Chapa’s (Gael) time. I just finished season one of the comedy series “Consuelo” on ViX and they are the romantic leads.
Here is hoping season 3 is released soon.
I think Irene/Inez and Rodrigo are on my last nerve. And then Malena…I agree with the above that Diana shouldn’t hv put Male I charge of decision making for her. She’s not in a good place emotionally/mentally herself. And what happened with Lucas after the water in the jail scene? Did Rod say?
Now waiting impatiently for season 3!! SaraAnne
