I'm so sorry. I fell behind this week and I won't be able to watch the Friday episode before Sunday night. I might be able to get a recap up sometime on Monday. If you want to discuss the ep without me, feel free.

What I remember from last night is one atrocity after another:

- Matilde is livid that she wasn't informed about Luisa's condition (and I can't blame her). She believes what Ernestina told her, that Gloria tried to kill Luisa, and she abandons Gloria (and Daniel) in order to care for Luisa who she feels needs her mother most.

- Sweet and bubbly Yadira owes Maribel cash and Maribel wants it KNOW. To emphasize this, Maribel suddenly jams a syringe in Yadira's belly. I don't know what's in the syringe but I don't think it's Ozempic. Scared ****less, Yadira runs to the apartment shared with Gloria and Sebas and steals some of the cash Sebas had stashed in the couch. But Sebas catches her stealing and kicks her out.

- New chemistry student guy captive and his female chemistry student friend manage to escape but are captured and a narco intends to rape the female student. Chemistry guy tries to protect her, but I think she gets killed.

- Now by Luisa's bedside, Matilda hears the lie straight from Luisa's mouth that Gloria shot her.

- Back in jail, Gloria is offered a deal by Torres, who heard her argument with her mother and tells Gloria he believes her entire story. Gloria doesn't trust Torres and rejects a deal.

- In a jail cell, Gloria is threatened by a women's gang. Gloria shows her fight skills and they're impressed, but later Gloria is set up to be attacked again.

That's all I remember, aside from the fact that Sonia does have qualms about Jacinto planning to have Daniel killed along with Gloria.

Was the redhaired woman in Gloria's cell arrested in the scene before the jail scene while she was doing liposuction on a woman ?

Poor Yadira . Maribel is a monster. Even though she was trying to take the money to pay horrible Maribel,I am feeling that vibes between Yadira and Sebas.

Torres and his men raided Maribel's shop. Why didn't he arrest her ? Susan

Thanks so much, Niecie, for the mini-cap. I wish I had your memory. If I don't take notes, it seems like my brainpan is wiped clean during sleep.

Mathilde did listen to Gloria saying she didn't shoot Luisa and some other explanations. I thought she softened just slightly from her initial position of you are not my daughter any more. But she still sides with the other two.

I just don't get why these young women put up with Maribel. Is that the only salon in Mexico City? Laura's probably stuck because I thought they said she married Perrón, but Susana surely has options. And Yadira should just run. I think Maribel's network is on the small side. Doubt she'd find her. I had hopes for a miracle cure for Sebas and a relationship with Yadira, but that looks unlikely.

Maribel blamed the botched surgery on Carolina on her rival in the fake medical business. And I think the other woman calls herself Maligna. Could that be true? Anyway, she ends up in the same group cell with Gloria.

Sigh. Another cliffhanger. Do these writers think we don't remember Gloria alive and well in the first episode?

I have a teeny, tiny hope that whatever that young woman ingested will wear off and she'll be all right. I was amazed Facundo got away. This novela is so dark that I never expected it.

And they went straight with the trope of one of the nasty prisoners being gay and planning on forcing Gloria into sex. Not to mention the sleazy low-level cartel guy who planned to rape the young chemistry student and then kill her.

I am expecting a big trap being set for Jacinto and Tamayo by Torres. He called Tamayo and gave him, I think, Gloria's apartment address.

Who do they think they're fooling? There's 00.000% chance that Daniel is going to be killed.

jefa #18 part 1

Gloria gets a knife in her shoulder from another detainee. It’s a “message” from Jacinto. Gloria gets the woman in a choke hold and tells her she also has a message for Jacinto. The woman runs away.

Jacinto and Suarez get weapons from a cop—to kill Sebas and Daniel.
A client brings news to Brillante’s that La Macabra Rosa has been arrested. Maribel gloats and tells the woman to let Rosa’s clients know that she’d be happy to serve them.

Oh boy, Laura hasn’t paid back the money she borrowed from Maribel. Perron had no idea she borrowed and he’s not happy.

Eduardo’s boss wants him to close the case against Maribel since he raided her salon and found nothing. Ed’s not happy. But the boss adds that Eduardo should be celebrating—he got a promotion for arresting Rosa and is now in charge of his own division.

Marco congratulates Eduardo. Marco hopes he will get a promotion, too. He needs the money and couldn’t get a bank loan. [uh oh will Marco turn bad?]

Yadira goes to see her mom. She needs money. [Is her mom the landlord of Yadira and Gloria’s building?] Mom doesn’t want to give her money and brings up Yadira’s addiction. Yadira begs, I’m indebted to a criminal. She’s going to kill me.

Facundo and Karen show up at the house (I can’t remember if it’s Erna’s or Laura’s house) and are greeted by his mom, Amparo the housekeeper.
Mom asks Yadira how much. 30K in pesos. Mom says, 30 today, 60 tomorrow. Yadira swears it’s not for drugs. She hasn’t used in a year. Mom doesn’t believe her. Mom says that Yadira is like a punishment for her. Yadira replies that makes her feel like using drugs again. Mom says it’s good that Dad died and was spared the embarrassment his daughter has become. Mom tells her to leave and solve her problem on her own.

Maribel’s got bills to pay and the salon doesn’t make enough without the surgeries. Perron thinks the heat will be off because Rosa was busted. Maribel is sure that Rosa will squeal, and the cops will return. Perron suggests she collect on all the debts including Laura’s. Maribel says that’s not enough.

Jacinto and Suarez show up at Gloria’s with their weapons. There is a knock at the door and Daniel thinks it’s his mom. Sebas sends him to his room. [this kid gets sent to his room in every episode]

Jacinto and Suarez burst into what they think is Gloria’s place, but no, it’s an empty apartment.

Nice twist here. It’s Yadira who’s knocking on Gloria’s door. Sebas lets her in. She’s a wreck and begging for help. Looks like she took some drugs. Daniel comes out of his room and asks if Yadira is going to die. No, but Sebas asks Daniel to bring a glass of water. Yadira reveals the drugs to Sebas. Daniel brings the water and is sent back to his room.

Yuck, Maribel and Perron get flirty. Maribel claims she was a hottie back in the day with rich lovers. Perron asks if they were narcos.

Eduardo shows up at the empty apartment and confronts Suarez—drop the gun! Jacinto hides. Ed identifies himself. Suarez says he’s a Tijuana police officer, looking for a murderer. Ha, Ed says come out, come out, Jacinto Ortega.

Jacinto comes out and tells Ed and Marco to drop their guns. Should I call your boss so he can reprimand you for threatening a governor? Guns are lowered and Eduardo says, we heard you were here and wanted to offer you protection. Jacinto asks, who told you? Eduardo answers, I gave Tamayo this address. I had a feeling he was your informant. Right? Who owes who a favor?

Jacinto smiles, we’re here on a special mission. I imagine Tamayo told you that Gloria was arrested, Eduardo says, you must be after the guy who was with her. Jacinto laughs and mocks Eduardo. The FGE in CDMX is very efficient. I’m impressed.

Maribel gets the idea to launder narco money.

Yadira pukes and cries about being an addict. She cries about attempting to steal from Gloria. She tells Sebas that the money wasn’t for drugs. She owes money to Maribel, who is going to kill her. Sebas puts her in the shower.

Amparo feeds the kids. Karen has called her mom but she can’t go home. The narcos will be looking for them. Amparo wants them to go to the cops. Facundo tells her these people are too powerful. They had to make them think Karen was dead. It was a plan. Facundo hid up a tree. We see the flashback. He went back and gave Karen an antidote. Facundo tells his mom he met an FGE agent, Eduardo Torres. He will help them.

Jacinto asks to talk to Eduardo alone. Eduardo admits this was a set up. He asks, who authorized you to attack this place outside your jurisdiction? Jacinto says he’s not there as a governor. This is a family matter. Gloria and Sebas destroyed our family. She killed Fernando and shot and paralyzed her sister, Laura.

Eduardo’s not buying it. What motivated Gloria to hurt her family? Jacinto replies, they are crazy, cold blooded murderers. Ed wonders if Laura came to avenge her husband and Gloria acted in self defense. How do you know Gloria killed her BIL? Jacinto shows Ed the pic on the phone that Gloria allegedly sent.

Matilde visits Laura with a bouquet. She’s there to support. Maybe Laura can go to the US for treatment. Laura rips the flowers apart.

Yadira is feeling better. Sebas told Dani that Yadira had heat stroke [sorry, I had to lol.] Sebas asks about her debt. She explains she started using drugs in HS. She did it to forget her troubles at home. She needed money and borrowed it from Maribel.

Maribel makes a call to an old lover. Let’s relive the good old days. She’s coming over.

Jacinto claims he came only to ask Glo and Sebas to leave his family alone. He asked Suarez to come along for protection. He asks, is that illegal? No, Eduardo answers, but it is illegal to hire someone to kill for you. He mentions the man who came to the hospital to kill Gloria. He was from Jacinto’s side of town. What a coincidence. Ed says he’ll keep on digging to find out who put out the hit. Here’s what we do, Eduardo says, gather your evidence and take it to a judge. Press charges legally. Don’t come here like you own the place. Estamos?

Sebas is sympathetic. Yadira says the interest rate is so high, she will never be able to pay it back. Sebas says he’s also paying a debt for someone who was very important to him. He tells Yadira he’ll talk to Gloria, and they might have enough money for her to repay Maribel. Yadira gives him a big hug and then she plants a kiss on him, that he reciprocates.

Maybe I should feel sorry for Laura, but I can’t. She laments her situation. She says she’s dead inside, feels nothing. [yes, nothing but hate for Gloria.] She will spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. Matilde tries to tell her to be grateful to be alive, but Laura says being paralyzed is not something to be thankful for. Should I thank your perfect daughter for leaving me like this? Matilde says hatred poisons the soul. Don’t side with her, Laura replies, you can’t serve both God and the Devil. [Laura chose the Devil a long time ago.]

Eduardo heard what happened and visits Gloria in the infirmary. Who attacked you? Gloria has nothing to say. He tells her he confirmed his suspicions. Everything you told your mother was true. I set up Jacinto and he fell for my trap. He came to confront you and Sebas.

Sonia gripes to Jacinto, I was waiting to hear we were rid of Sebas, and nothing happened? He answers, if you’re desperate to get rid of anything let it be the baby in your belly. That’s another reason we’re here. He tells Sonia an FGE agent showed up and ruined everything.

That was some kiss. Yadira apologizes with a big smile. Then she asks, you didn’t like it? She starts to babble, I made a fool of myself. I’m sorry. Sebas is smiling, he can’t get a word in edgewise. She gets up to go home. He goes after her. Wait, it’s not that I didn’t like it, he says, I don’t want anyone to misunderstand my offer to help. It’s okay, she replies, I kissed you. It’s been a while since I experienced such kindness. Forgive me, it won’t happen again.

Sebas says, do me a favor. Remember that you are a very attractive woman. She says let’s pretend that kiss never happened. He says it never happened and now he’s kissing her, and they are moving backwards into her apartment. That towel’s about to come off. [Hey, what about leaving Dani alone?]

Suarez calls Jacinto. The hit on Gloria failed.

Gloria asks Eduardo about Daniel. He tells her both he and Sebas are safe. [for now.] I’ll make sure you’re released so you can be with your son. Ed asks her if the attacker mentioned Jacinto. Gloria says that Jacinto is sick. He thinks I have the narco’s $5 million.

Rosa comes in to see Gloria, but she doesn’t see Eduardo standing in the background. Rosa says, the woman who attacked Gloria wasn’t a detainee. The station chief is looking into it. I think she was paid to kill you. Stay sharp. I can keep an eye on you. You’ll have to pay for protection, try to come up with the money. Eduardo speaks up. That’s not necessary. Gloria is about to be released. You again, Rosa glares. Gloria is surprised—you know each other?

Duque makes a call. I sent the governor the schedule so he’ll clear the area. There’ll be no problems.

Marlin and sidekick return. Duque wants to see how the influencer killed his girlfriend and shot himself. Marlin starts, well… she’s dead… but she didn’t die like we wanted. She took poison. And Facundo got away. Duque asks Marlin to get the hammer. Duque smashes the sidekick’s fingers.

Maribel dolls herself up. [Ay, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. She’s literally putting lipstick on a pig.]

Ramona hands Laura her pay. Laura is upset because it’s not enough to buy the video game her son wanted for his birthday. Now it’s nothing because Maribel takes it as part of Laura’s payment.

Duque wants Marlin to get Karen’s body and dump it on the street and they will figure out a way to screw that fool (Facundo) who took off.

Rosa explains that Ed was the cop who shut her business down and arrested her. She tells Glo that there are no good cops. Eduardo tells Gloria that her friend is accused of performing cosmetic surgeries without a license. She’s the main suspect in the Piñero sisters’ murders. Rosa vehemently denies the murders and leaves.

Gloria asks if Rosa is a murderer. Ed says she’s only a suspect. What’s important now is that Jacinto snuck in someone to kill you. You can’t stay here. I have evidence you fired in self defense. And you were just attacked here. I’ll make my boss sign your release.

Laura cries that it’s her son’s birthday and she hasn’t seen him in a long time. Maribel replies, ask me if I give a *bleep* about your kid’s birthday. You get horny and knocked up and the whining never ends. Laura begs. Maribel says if you don’t like it, go back to your country.

Susana gives Laura some money to buy the birthday gift. She got a lot of tips today and made some bucks with her influencer stuff. Laura can pay her back whenever she is able. Tell the boy it’s a gift from Tia Susana.

Gloria thanks Rosa for saving her. She could have bled out. Rosa says she’s like a doctor, but not really one. I went to nursing school, she says, but I stuck with cosmetology. Rosa talks about Eduardo. He shut down my business. Yes, it’s not technically legal, I don’t have a license but….Did he arrest you? Gloria replies, yes, he was there when I killed the hitman. It was self defense. There are people who want to hurt me.

Rosa says, there’s only one bitch who hates me. She claims I stole her clients. But I swear I’ll make her pay when I get out of here. Don’t tell anyone.

Eduardo comes to Gloria’s cell. He’s got her release. She thanks Rosa again and says she’ll never forget what she did. Rosa says, look me up when I get out. My salon is Prima Donna. I can give you work.

Jacinto and Sonia are in a car waiting for Gloria to be released. Gloria and Eduardo appear. Jacinto tells Sonia that’s the FGE agent protecting her. Sonia snarks, another FGE agent, so predictable. Just like JJ. The bitch switched owners but learned no new tricks.

Glo tells Ed, I can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done for my son and me. Especially after how I treated you. I have a hard time trusting people after what happened. Eduardo understands, not trusting people is part of his job.
Jacinto is sure that Gloria and Eduardo are sleeping together. That’s not good. Jacinto pulls out his gun. Sonia gasps, you can’t kill him.

Ed offers to take Gloria home. She says she’ll take a taxi [she has money?] He asks, you don’t want me to know your address? No, she replies, you’ve already done a lot, and I appreciate it. He reminds her she has a lot of enemies. Glo is sure she can take care of herself. He starts to walk away, but she calls him back. It gets flirty.

Jacinto tells Sonia, we’re going to kill two birds with one stone.

And we are out.

Gracias, Dondi. All the details I needed and astute asides that make me think. Yep, poor Daniel always gets sent to his room. I wonder if anything is in said room to keep him amused there.

Yay! Gloria and Ed form an alliance.

Boo! Jacinto and Sonia already discover the alliance.

Rosa is a saint next to Maribel. I wonder if we've seen the last of her. I hope she gets out of jail and takes Maribel staff away.

Thanks SO much, dondi. I am VERY late to the party. I think I had too much undeleted stuff on my DVR, so Friday's episode did not record. I tried to watch it on the Telemundo site on Saturday, but either it wasn't up yet, or I did something wrong. And Sunday was my daughter in law's birthday, so I spent the day and evening with family. Finally, I could see the episode on Telemundo's site today.

Just one correction: The evil sister-in-law is Elisa. I guess we're going with Mathilde forgiving every one of her atrocities. Who tears up a bouquet brought by your mother?

Loved "lipstick on a pig" vis a vis Maribel dolling herself up to, I think, appeal to an old boyfriend and become a cartel money launderer. Azela Robinson is putting up one of her MOST disgusting characters, and that's saying a lot.

I was SO happy Karen survived. And thanks for remembering her name. I could not do so for the life of me. I'm pretty sure these two are going to make it to the end. Facundo needs to find a secret location and start trolling El Duque big time.

Gloria seems always almost on the verge of mistrusting Torres. I'm glad to see she decided to accept the ride with him. This whole Jacinto thing is nuts. I've heard plenty of things about corrupt officials in Mexico, but his dogged pursuit of Gloria and apparent willingness to kill her himself beggars belief.

El Duque's underlings are certainly at risk. That hand and/or finger smashing thing was awful. Duque said something about having a special relationship with Marlin, so his pinkies survived.

Perhaps I'll put this up on Monday's page when it posts.
