Gabriel Cannot Seem to Escape Brisa's Claws
Gabriel explodes at Brisa when he finds out that she never got her family's approval to give him the money. After listening to her lovesick ramblings, he tries to make it clear ONE MORE TIME than even though he is grateful for what she did for him, it doesn't mean that they will be getting back together. He insists that they go see her family where he insists on taking the blame for it all. Brisa will not allow him to do that and tells her family that it was she who took teh money for Gabriel because he needed it. Gabriel assures the family that he sees it as only a loan and will be repaying is ASAP. Meche gives him the side eye.
Gabriel talks to Marina and tries to restart their relationship. He says that he NEVER asked Brisa to steal the money for him. Marina is frustrated because every time she tries to get closer to her, he pushes her away. He wants to start fresh but she has no plans to go camping with him and Iker until Iker comes out and begs her to go. Before she goes home to pack her bag, she informs Gabriel that he better not think that Brisa is going to want nothing in exchange for her getting him the money.
Gabriel picks Marina up in his truck and, of course, Brisa sees them. She stands in the middle of the road to stop their way. She asks where they are going and when there is no answer, she steps aside and tells them to have a lovely day. Perla tells her to give it up already with Gabriel. It is clear he is done with her. Brisa predicts that in two days they will be back together.
Later at home, Brisa's sisters and mother tell her off for taking the money. Then Estrella and her mother hit the nail on the head. Estrella tells Brisa that she betrayed the trust of the whole family. She thinks Brisa took the money thinking that Gabriel would be grateful to her and come back to her. She needs to let him go. Meche tells her that love is a beautiful thing but when it is over, you need to close that cycle. One must keep their dignity above all else because it cannot be bought for all of the money in the world.
Sergio Hatches a New Plan
Sergio shows up at the Contreras' house to "help" and offers to pay Estrella's debt with Fabián who is somebody he doesn't trust. Estrella refuses. Meche is no help thinking it might be a good idea but Estrella refuses to give in.
Sergio takes Azul out to Erika's restaurant. He enlists her help in their mutual goal of getting her mother join them in forming a family.
Sergio returns with a suddenly bratty Azul and tells Fabián, who is kissing Estrella when Sergio darkens her door, that he wants to talk to Estrella alone. He then asks how Fabián's truck is doing. Fabián says it is coming out of the garage tomorrow. Sergio warns him to drive carefully especilaly on the highways because accidents happen . . . After Fabián leaves, Sergio tells Estrella that he is serious about wanting to get to know his daughter better and spend more time with her. Since there is a project in the area that his company is working on, he is planning on moving to town. He has no idea how long it will be for. Azul is overjoyed but not Estrella.
Valentín: Stuck in His Own Personal Hell
Valentín is with Pascual's phone alone as it charges and is taking advantage of the situation to listen to his pathetic messages and erasing them. Pascual comes in the room and notices that there are no messages on his phone. He asks Valentín what the content was of all the messages he said he left him. Valentín lies and says that he never left him messages but kept calling and hanging up when the call went to voice mail. Pascual asks what was it he wanted to tell him. Valentín answers nothing important. He just missed him a lot and now he is with Perlita. Pascual lights up talking about Perla. He sees his life as "before Perla"and "after Perla "arriving on the scene. He feels like he has a new life like our Lord in his resurrection.
Erika is Still Flapping Her Forked Tongue
Erika tells Fabián that she only wishes "the best" for him and Estrella. He has some doubts about that due to all of the hatred she has sowed in the past but ends up thanking her for her good wishes but also warning her to stay out of his and Estrella's lives. Erika has one last comment. She thinks that his relationship with Estrella will not be so easy since Sergio seems set to get more involved with Estrella and her family.
Yazmín Pushes Ahead
Yazmín is tempted to take maybe a half a pill to take the edge off but seems to control her addiction as she remembers being with her father as a kid happily fishing from his boat.
Yazmín tells her father that she wants to get a job. She wants to fish. Oliver is teaching her the basics. No, she doesn't want to work for Estrella. She wants to work for him. He happily agrees but she has to keep up with her school work and he gets to call the shots.
Everything Else
When Fabián goes to his father complaining about Sergio, Gonzalo diagnoses the problem. Fabián is jealous.
Marina and Estrella share notes in their fight for love. Marina makes it clear that it was never her intention to hurt Brisa. Brisa and Gabriel were broken up before she and Gabriel got involved. Estrella says the same thing happened to her with Fabián. He had already broken up with Erika.
Another good one. : )
Didn’t like bratty little Azul in this episode.
Poor Gabriel with Brisa predicting she will be back with him in 2 days.
No more Valentín moping around puhleeze!
Sergio was a real creep telling Fabián that “accidents happen.”
Jarifa, thank you for another wise and wonderful recap.
"Gabriel Cannot Seem to Escape Brisa's Claws". No he certainly can't, can he?? Brisa is utterly selfish, obstinate, unfeeling and thinks of no one but herself. She is determined to get what she wants no matter how she does it or who she hurts in the process. I was surprised she stepped away from the path of Gabriel's car packed with Marina and Iker. Yet, "Brisa predicts that in two days they will be back together". It's official; we have been warned...
"...a suddenly bratty Azul" nailed it! What happened to that sweet, angelic little girl? How convenient Sergio now "needs" to be near town...
Gonzalo correctly diagnosed Fabian's "problem". The green eyed monster...
Yaz made positive strides forward. Good for her for resisting taking the pill. I was surprised but happy she wants to work for Fabian.
I was struck by a few glaring hair issues tonight. In Sergio's first scene, his hair was really poufed and seemingly infused with "Just For Men" as there was almost no trace of gray. Yet, in each subsequent scene, his hair was back to being streaked with gray and a bit less deflated from the initial scene. :) Then, in the last scene when he was talking with Jaz, Fabian's hair and eyebrows seemed to be jet black. Were the hair stylists messing with us or is it just me??
A fantastic recap Jarifa!!
Diana
Dark clouds! This episode took a lot of unexpected turns.
Lale when she dropped in on Atilla made her intentions very clear. She was coming on to him very strong. He shut her down, but I was very disappointed that on her way out of the condo development she tried to make Karsu think she and Atilla had a thing going. I had liked Lale and didn’t think she’d play dirty like that. Yes, she’s all enthralled with Atilla, but still.
Reha again set off a chain reaction of disasters. Wasn’t that something how he called Hassan “Padre Hassan” like he could ingratiate himself and bring out the paternal in Hassan? He’s dealing with a stone cold mafioso! It was fun to see Hassan give him a fright by telling him to stay away from his son.
It was too bad that Delaver had no choice but to tell all. Not doing so would have cost him his life when it was discovered. He even had to tell about Genghis Khan. So sad! Up until now he and Attila and Cedvet had been so brotherly with one another.
Why is Hassan so fixated on the “three kids” thing? What’s wrong with that?
Well, this is what happens when evil enters the picture, and Hassan is pure evil. What will happen to Genghis Khan? Obviously Atilla knows he himself could be offed by his father.
Lale could tell when Atilla called her that something was very fishy. And yet she agreed to come! She knows she’s messing with mafiosi. It would be better to run for it. Well, she said she likes strong men. Big mistake in this case. Wait’ll she claps eyes on Hassan. He’s the kind of strong you want to stay well away from.
This telenovela has been very creative, not the usual fare at all, so I was very disappointed to see the plot is going to involve Atilla marrying Lale to save the lives of Karsu and her kids. I swear my screen lit up with neon Trope! Trope! Trope! signs.
Poor Filiz having to re-live her heartbreak and humiliation at the police station. How could they tell from Adnan’s ID that he was divorced? Or was it her ID? Poor Filiz having to say Adnan was her yerno. And then Adnan on the way out acting like it was all water under the bridge and can I give you a lift? Another disappointment was Karsu later telling her mom to just get over it, just put it all behind her. Filiz is having a very bad day.
Yep, Maggie, that was indeed a sad episode. The only good part was seeing Reha pretty much turning pale as he realized his misstep. When are these writers going to dish out some consequences for him?
Lale doesn't seem to have learned what most of us learned in high school. Men like to do the pursuing; she's salivating at the very sight of him, inviting herself in, etc.
I don't think the plot will go so far as Atilla actually marrying Lale. I believe he will have to ditch the idea of telling Karsu everything, as he'd planned. But Atilla has some skills himself. I'm pretty sure his cool demeanor and explanation of just being a friend to Karsu somewhat worked on the old man.
It was so fleeting, seeing Karsu so happy.
And the Filiz actress has the most expressive face! And Adnan is just a dolt showing up like that. He could have just sent a lawyer.
I realized at 8 p.m. that I hadn't watched episode 41. No wonder I didn't see the scenes you talked about Maggie. I'm caught up now. I watched 41 on ViX and 42 on Univision. Wonder what scenes were omitted last night.
I was glad to discover what website Omer glimpsed over Ipek's shoulder. She was admiring a bracelet that I guess was sold out. That was the "pay" Omer received from Atila. It was money well spent as Karsu was delighted with the novel.
Novelera, I'm kind of in Karsu's corner regarding Feliz. It has been at least 12 years since her divorce. Adnan was her second husband and it was a marriage that seemed to be only a few years duration. She is an attractive woman who has wasted a lot of her best years pursuing beauty with little to.shoe for it. She is still an unhappy woman; letting go of resentment and anger is good for the soul.
I also was upset when lake alluded to a relationship between her and Atila. At least she still realizes her brother is a jerk. She definitely made a huge mistake telling Reha who Atila is.
Hasan must still be very powerful. Looks like the head of the prison gives him preferential treatment.
I imagine the database the driver's license was put into has a lot of information. Since it was at the police station I imagine it has all public information on residents. Also, did she keep her married name?
Ah, it was Maggie that was disappointed in Karsu telling her mother to get over it. I reread the other posts.
I think I'm caught up. In this episode Inigo and Leonel's crazy sister Atocha trap the children in the strawberry warehouse and torch it, framing Carmelo by dropping his cross there. I'm a bit confused. Are the children Leonel's biologically or were they his ex's that she abandoned.? Atocha seems to allude that they aren't family. I'm not sure I'm liking this show. I'll stick with it a bit longer but. There's a good chance I'll abandon it.
Let's see, another mystery is who destroyed Amapola's herb shed. Seems she is a veterinarian and an herbalist/witch. She treats her autistic son horribly, and has the hots for Leonel. I'm guessing they have a physical relationship since his wife's "death".
Sebastian is giving a talk in a country hospital about burn treatment and of course they all spring into action when Leonel and the children are transported there. I'm sad that Paulina died. The child actress was so good in Receta. Is the guy looking to invest in the town? Why did he go look at the bar with Camilo? So many questions. I definitely think there is a body in that box he is dragging around with him. Looks like he'll dump it at the waterfall. This is a hard show to follow and it's especially difficult with all the weird names to keep track of.
Kat, thank you for the summary and yes, this is packed with "weird names to keep track of".
Last night was too dark for me so I'm out...
The characters are either evil beyond belief or just not appealing. Even Sebastian's character seems flat (although I love Daniel, the actor).
I'm going out on a limb here but I honestly don't think Colunga was the right choice for this role. Swashbuckling pirate? Definitely but his performance here is just lacking for me. To those who are liking this, enjoy!
Diana
Thanks Jarifa, another great recap. Brisa is on the same level as Sergio and Erica. I’m thinking her next step is to threaten Gabriel with what she knows. We know she has no feelings for Iker and probably would be happy to have Gabriel all to herself.
I don’t like Azul plotting with Sergio against her mother. Sheron for a rude awakening and I can’t wait. She’s turned into a brat and I can’t imagine how much worse she’ll get if she ends up living with Sergio.
Poor Fabian, he’s in for some rough times ahead. But at least he has Yazmin back.
To me it’s just obvious that Perla has no real feelings for Pascual. I wonder how this will be resolved.
Liz
Kat, thanks. I watched a couple of episodes this morning and was so sick of granny blaming Alba for everything over and over again. We got the point!!! Alba feels so guilty because she put a notebook in front of her father's face while he was driving and caused the crash that killed both of her parents. I liked the crazy vet Amapola with her pet python and her son Tonatiuh with his jar full of crickets. I was sorry to see that the child actress from Receta was killed off so quickly. I would like to see her in a "happy child" role some time. So, Camilo is going to get framed. I agree Diana that "The characters are either evil beyond belief or just not appealing." Looks like a novela which will be one long revenge plot. Colunga still looks good for his age but I remember him from "Soy tu dueña" where he still had that boyish smile. That was one good novela! I will probably check in on this from time to time when the viewing pickings are slim.
Diana, glad you enjoyed the "notes". As for Brisa, "I was surprised she stepped away from the path of Gabriel's car packed with Marina and Iker. "Me, too. I though he was going to have to get out and physically carry her out of the road. Gabriel, Marina and Iker better enjoy their weekend trip because there certainly be hell to pay in two days when they get back. "I was struck by a few glaring hair issues tonight." Thanks for mentioning that. When I am recapping I don't pay that much attention to the visual aspects which I appreciate so much. . Now I will have to go back and FF to see the "just for Men" and other variations! I need a good laugh. Thanks
Liz, thanks. ITA that "Brisa is on the same level as Sergio and Erica." Her jealousy has become evil just like theirs. Poor Meche! Interesting possiblity for bratty Azul: "She’s turned into a brat and I can’t imagine how much worse she’ll get if she ends up living with Sergio." I hadn't thought about it but with Sergio in town, he will be an easy escape to try to coerce her mother into doing what she wants. As for Perla and Pascual, with NO chemistry between them, it's lotsa' luck. So how long will she stay with him trying to make the impossible happen?
I was disappointed in Lale when she told her brother about Atilla. But now she’s lied to her sister-in-law and pretending Atilla invited her over. I feel sorry for Karsu, who was so happy.
I thought Hassan wanted Atilla to kill Karsu, but wasn’t sure. Atilla doesn’t have the heart or soul for his business. I think he’ll be with Lale and Karsu will be heartbroken.
Wednesday someone was commenting on when adnan’s affair with Hande was. It would have to have been close to when he married Irmak. I, for some reason think she was 19 when she went with Adnan. Hande must be around the same age as one of the sisters. So Adnan would have cheated on Feliz with her. I can’t imagine him being with a girl younger than 18.
I like how Feliz and the daughters are slowly forming a bond.
Liz
Great comments!
I thought last night’s episode was a little choppy. Is that because we now know scenes are being cut? I did think Reha’s interview with Hassan got cut off early. There was no scene of Reha slinking away. He would have to make some kind of awkward exit.
Kat, I’m thinking the kind of blow Filiz got from her husband leaving her is something that never will heal. It’s bad enough that he ran off with somebody else, but it was somebody else much much younger. It’s left Filiz with the feeling of being old and unattractive. She has a lot of spirit and probably could recover from his betrayal, but I think that her sense of herself is permanently damaged. Now the knife is twisted, her daughter is in her house, and worst of all, she’s pregnant with the baby he obviously desired. He has no other children we found out. Probably Filiz was past childbearing years when she married him so now she has another reason to feel old and inferior. And then she had to relive the humiliation in public, in the police station. Meanwhile Adnan is stupidly unaware and keeps putting his foot in it.
I don’t think just get over it is ever the right view of anybody else’s problems. Besides, Filiz’s old wounds have been freshly reopened and are bleeding again. Karsu herself is not over her anger at Hande. Reha was no big loss – it sounds like their marriage was no fun. She’s well over him. Leaving him just meant financial problems for her and adjustment for the kids. But Hande was her closest friend!
I was worried while watching last night that they have switched up writers. This show has been so wonderful with its lack of tropes (well, yes, we do have love blooming), and its complex characters brought to life by an amazing cast. The writing has been terrific.
I well remember how Mujer was so fabulous and then suddenly turned stupid at the start of a new season – I think season 3. The characters were changed and suddenly the plot developments were the heavy-handed unbelievable stuff we get in our usual telenovelas. I bailed on it, but then weeks later checked in again and they’d gotten mostly back on track.
(Say are any of you watching Grantchester over on PBS? After many wonderful seasons, they suddenly decided that they should add comedy and they changed characters we’ve come to know over years into comic figures. I may bail on that too.)
Of course in this episode we have Hassan and the threat that he might have any of our characters killed, his sons included and they all have to adjust their behaviors to stay alive. That changes things a lot. Where did he get the photos of Karsu and her kids?
But I was most concerned about Lale. She really seems to be acting out of character. They even created a scene to justify it where she’s having girl talk and saying she really wants a strong, protective man. Yes, lust can make you crazy, but she doesn’t seem like the type who needs a protector or who wants a dominant man. Also, her trying to mess up Karsu’s relationship with Attila is a standard trope (see A.Mar). I expect more from the writers.
I am not sure what Feliz was arrested for. I am guessing it was messing with the books? While having to humble herself before the police & her x..It probably beats cooking Botox in a prison toilet for cellmates.
I thought Atilla's father was in prison? If so he has a pretty good setup. I guess killing is okay but breaking up a family is a no go. Now I have never really liked Lale, she supports her idiot brother. Reha always the poor poor pitiful me. I would think there would be a line of people waiting to kill him just for being so freaking annoying.
Wow, rough first week!!! I can't believe the poor little girl died! Auntie is EVIL!!! Mom was no treat, either! I'll probably stick with it another week, before deciding but I can't definitely see the urge to bail.
Kat - I have done a lot of multitasking while watching so I won't promise that I didn't miss something, but I do think the kids are biologically Leonel's. I think Auntie just feels like they aren't 'hers' because she clearly feels no affinity for her own brother? I mean she hates her brother, right? So, she hates his kids, too? That makes sense to me. Anyway, I haven't heard any hint that Leo is stepdad.
I didn't notice the guy who wants to invest around town, so apparently I DID miss something... hehe
The relationship between Alba and Camilo confuses me. They call the same woman grandma and they refer to 'our parents', they 'te amo' each other but Camilo treats her like he wants her to be his girlfriend??? I guess they can't be siblings because they would be calling each other 'hermano/a' and they probably aren't cousins because they would refer to each other as 'primo/a'.....but it's a weird vibe!!! Usually, one thing they do very well in novelas is over define what the relationship is between the characters!!!
Feliz was brought in for questioning regarding the books, but the inconsistencies happened on the previous persons tenure. As an is going to get his accounts on it to prove her innocence.
I think dad is using the prison directors house for his meetings.
Darcy, I multitask also. If there is interest I'll try to stick it out another week too, but I may watch it a day later as it is on late.
I'm pretty sure Alba and Camilo are siblings that show a lot of affection. I guess when their parents died alba promised to take care of her little brother forever...the priest gets a lot of affection also. I don't think he is their uncle, one of the young girls may be his niece, possibly the one that likes the autistic guy. I'm going to have to write a chart with the names to keep them straight.
Sebastian, the visiting Dr. was shown the bar. I had the impression that Camilo and his grandmother are hoping for an infusion of capital to pay back the debt. Speaking of the debt, who paid the hospital bills, did grandma sell something or lease some land. Alba was upset that she wasn't consulted as she is a co owner. Of course she has been hiding out at the convent the past two years.
I only recognize a word here or there , but I am happy to see so many actors and actresses I know in this show.
Darcy ,
the guy you referred to as walking around town
looking to invest Is Daniel Elbittar , who was the galan in "Receta." He plays the villain in this show . His character is a doctor named Sebastian , and in the previous episode , they showed him in a hasmat suit throwing gasoline around a small home , and then , he threw a shoe into a trunk , and i thought that it looked like there was a body covered by a blanket in the trunk. .He ran into Alba at the hospital and was very interested in her . I think he is going to bring the evil . Susan
Kat, thanks for the info you provided . I didn't realize that two years had passed..
I think that Camilo and Alba are siblings .
I like the actor playing the priest . He has been in many telenovelos.
The young guy playing Tono is a Juan Osorio's son. Susan
Kat, I will definitely be watching at least a day late because my only means of watching is Vix and they don't upload until the next day - or sometimes even two days later as happened one day this week. I also work really early in the morning so I've been watching after work the day after it airs.
Alba and Camilo could be siblings but most of the time in Spanish siblings actually call each other 'hermano' or 'hermana'. Like you hear Atocha calling Leonel hermano and referring to him as her hermano when talking to her lackey. Same thing with cousins, they greet each other and refer to each other as primo. I haven't heard or noticed Alba or Camilo call each other hermano which makes me think they're not, even though it seems like they should be... Like I said, the relationship is weird.
Okay, I noticed Sebastian (I love that actor), I thought you were referring to another visitor in town besides the Dr who was some rich guy looking to invest in something.
I'm not sure who actually paid the hospital bills.... Maybe I should rewatch the end of the episode before Monday and see if it helps, but then again maybe we just don't know yet.
Notes from the Couch . . . The "Nothing Much Happened" edition. . .
Brisa Doesn't Miss a Beat
It is night fall and Gabriel and Marina are at the beach where Iker has fallen asleep in Marina's lap. Gabriel is surprised because Iker has never gotten used to anyone so quicky like he has with Marina. The spell is broken with a phone call from an hysterical Brisa. She implores him not to leave her. Her family hates her. She is all alone. She misses him. Gabriel says he is going to get a bank loan ASAP so he can pay her back ASAP. He tells her he is grateful for what she did for him but he is with Marina now. He says he has to hang up. Brisa turns vile screaming that she is the stupid one keeping what she knows about Iker a secret while he is off with his little family camping. She is the one who should have been there with him. Gabriel doesn't answer and hangs up. Brisa goes berserk in her room.
Gabriel tells Marina that Brisa called but he won't fall for her blackmail. He made it clear that now he was with her. (Marina) He apologizes again for how he handled the Victor situation. She brings up the fact that he shut her out. Gabriel wants to give their relationship another try. He thinks she feels the same in her heart. They kiss as Iker sleeps on the beach.
Back in town the next day, Brisa makes a point of using her power of persuasion on Gabriel. She doesn't want his gratitude. She wants them to be a couple again. Gabriel reminds her that he never asked her to steal the money for him. One thing is the money situation while their relationship is completely separate from that. She makes a point of telling him that she is not threatening him but if he wants his secret about Iker safe with her, he is going to have to resume their relationship.
Estrella Gives Fabián the Bad News
Estrella and Fabián catch up. He tells her about Yazmín wanting to fish. He is worried about her. Estrella thinks that Yazmín is strong and smart and will do just fine. Also it will be an opportunity for Fabián and Yazmín to get to know each other better. Estrella tells Fabiána bout Sergio moving into town. Fabián is surprised and worried that he will get Estrella to go back with him. Estrella reminds Fabián that she loves HIM.
Sergio rents a room from Erika. He is grateful that she called him in the first place about Azul. Erika admits that she had to pay a price for doing that but it is worth it seeing him reunited with his daughter. She adds that maybe they can end up helping each other.. .
Estrella agrees to go out with Sergio and Azul for the day. Azul asks all sort of uncomfortable questions of her parents about when they knew they were in love with each other, etc. Sergio is quick to give the desired response, Erika not so much. Fabián gives Estrella a call. he is cooking supper for her that night.
She decides on shrimp.
Fabián runs into Sergio on the beach where he is introduced to Oliver and Nemesio. Sergio tries to avoid shaking their hands but is not successful. Fabián says that he hopes that things go well with Azul because she is so excited about having her father living close by. Sergio states that he always gets what he wants and predicts that he will have Estrella falling at his feet. Fabián doesn't look impressed.
Pascual's Joy is Valentín's Pain
Valentín comes home to find that Pascual has set the table for supper. There are only two places, one for him and one for Perla. He asks Vslentín to make himself scarce while Perla is there just like the many times he did the same when Valentín had his female company over. Valentín leaves.
Perla has brought a dessert she bought. it is a cake with nuts. It turns out that Pascual is allergic to nuts. The cake could kill him. He is allergic to many things. Perla says they will have a long time to fond out what those foods are.
An upset Valentín meets Oliver and Nemesio at the bar but rather than having beer, he has some shots of tequila. He ends up drunk and comes home earlier than expected. He makes enough of a spectacle of himself and enough noise that Pascual has to ask him to tone it down. Valentín ends up screaming in his pillow.
The next morning Oliver asks Perla how things are going with Pascual. She says they are just getting to know each other. She answers very logically and dispassionately. Basically, she cares about Pascual. He takes good care of her. What else could a girl want? Oliver asks if the only reason she is with Pascual is because she can't be with Valentín. Perla says NO! to that.
Oliver Confronts Yazmín
It is evening when Yazmín awakens from a nap and pops a pill. Little does she know but Oliver is outside of her window and saw her take it. He crawls through the window and asks her what is if for. She lies and says it is an analgesic for a headache. He Oliver has a surprise for her. It is a San Pedro medal. He is the patron saint of fishermen. She loves it and Oliver helpa her put it on.
Fabián decides that the next day would be a good day for her to start fishing on his boat. She has a very successful first day.
Everything else
Meche thinks that Gonzalo should get paid for the amount of time he spends helping her out at the stand. He refuses. He is not helping her for the money.
Meche and Gonzalo are going to formal dance classes.
I was worried about the writing in Thursday’s episode, but I loved this one! So many surprises, so many undercurrents. I re-watched the early scene where Atila meets with his father and it was delicious to see it again now that I knew what followed.
I’m wondering if I have the background right: Lale figured out that Atilla was a mafioso and told Reha, who then thought he could go to Hassan and get him to tell his son to stay away from Karsu. He said Atilla broke up his marriage. Am I right about that?
So now Hassan, who knows all, and having ominously shown Atilla Karsu and the kids’ pictures, tells Atilla to call his girlfriend to come meet him. Lale appears quickly as requested. Then he asks when the wedding is and they both fumble around and Hassam picks tomorrow. It was fun to watch Atilla and Lale squirm while trying to pretend everything was okay. Later Hassam tells his henchman that he would never harm a woman, but Atilla doesn’t know that. He also says he knows that Attila and Lale are lying, but this is Atilla’s punishment for saving Genghis Khan and hiding him and for blowing his own cover by saying that he was in hiding. Re-watching the scene, knowing that Hassam is well aware of the lying, is fun. Also, Atilla, who is obviously scared of his dad, does get him to promise he won’t touch Genghis Kahn. Dad waves that issue off and says okay, just keep him out of my sight. Great stuff, and we see that Hassam isn’t 100 percent evil. He’s not beyond having fun jerking his errant son around and the people around Atilla aren’t in as much danger as we thought. Say, maybe Mert can come out of hiding and get back to singing.
I liked the exchange between Lale and Reha, where she said yeah, Atilla is hot, but marriage? Just no. And there’s Reha stressing that she needs to marry or Hassam will bump him off. Also, Hassan is rich! Too funny. I was very happy that Lale seemed like Lale again, and of course the actress is so wonderful.
Questions: How did Lale know to kiss Hassam’s hand in greeting? Why did Atilla not wear his glasses at the wedding?
Oh and I loved the way Atilla was when he and his bride got home. By morning we see it’s actual animosity and then he says she’s a dangerous woman, even more dangerous than he is. To me, the worst thing Lale ever did was to pretend to Karsu the night before that she and Atilla were close. Otherwise, Lale’s pretty much been a champ. She’s very canny but she has seemed like a good egg. She only told Reha that Atilla was a mafioso to get Reha to back off before he got seriously hurt.
Maggie, I wonder if it's a common form of respect to kiss the father's hand in Turkish culture, especially if they are your boyfriend's father.
Reha delighted in Karsu's anguish at the reception dinner. Hande rolled her eyes so she realizes he is a jerk. Can't understand why she remains with him. Irmak and Karsu may finally resolve their differences. Irmak comforts and agrees that there is no understanding the marriage. How sad that they had their night of passion. She could have dealt with the betrayal better if the physical side had never happened .This has made it extra difficult for both of them. I liked Irmak's idea of ruining the party.
Lale was hoping to be carried over the threshold. I guess that tradition is included in Turkish culture. She knows theirs is a fake marriage but hopes to win him over.
Daddy dearest is about to become a free man. This will be interesting.
Jarifa, thank you for the excellent recap in which Brisa goes berserk!
"She makes a point of telling him that she is not threatening him but if he wants his secret about Iker safe with her, he is going to have to resume their relationship". If that isn't a threat, what is? Are we surprised? Nopis. She is an out of control runaway train hurling down the track.
Sergio could hardly contain his disgust when Oliver and Nemesio shook his hand. I am surprised he would deign to stay at Erika's hotel which could likely muster one star at best! :)
Oh my, it certainly was "Pascual's Joy is Valentín's Pain." Valentin is drowning in recriminations and self pity. Perla is swimming in tepid and uncertain waters. "She answers very logically and dispassionately" was perfect. Perla is certainly giving it a go but hope hardly springs eternal that she and Pascual will end up together.
I was disappointed Yaz took the pill! Oliver always seems to pop up at the right time though. I sense the medal he gave her will play a part in her recovery.
Meche needs to lighten up a bit and let loose. I think she has found just the partner to help her do that!
"Estrella reminds Fabián that she loves HIM". Her steadfast devotion is comforting although Sergio is obviously just not going away.
Jarifa, thank you for all you provided and as always oh so well!

The kissing of the hand and touching the forehead is often seen in dizis. Daughters-in-law do it to mothers-in-law, grandkids to grandmothers, etc. It is a gesture of respect. If the receiver does not extend the hand, it’s a really bad sign! Kids do it to parents, etc.
Atilla’s anguish is killing me! He conveys so much with small facial changes. What a talented actor.
Karsu’s anguish was hard to watch, and we knew it was coming! I hope these two get a little more happiness, but I fear the relationship is doomed.
Lale is trying too hard. I wish she’d relax. Her expressions are telling. I agree she is a good actress, but I like the character less.
Love the growing affection of Karsu, Irmak, and Filiz.
Reha continues to be a major jerk!
I like the hope that Hasan may not be totally evil. I worry that Dilaver may slip trying to stay loyal to father and son/s!
No idea where this is going, but I’m loving the ride!

One of my theories was proven true. Leonel is not the biological father to his children. I can't tell if they were twins. Both look about the same age. Nana and Leo discussed it. I went back to the first episode to figure out the characters. Something caught my attention. Leo mentions how his father never forgave his mother for her infidelity. Hmm, is Atocha his half sister. It would explain the father's treatment of her and him leaving the estate solely to Leo. Another thing I noticed in that first episode was the wedding memories of Leo. The camera would pan on a button of his coat. It looked like perhaps it was a lion on the button. I think I'll spend my free time this weekend rewatching the episodes. When I have no clue who is who I miss a lot.
And I this 5th episode we are introduced to Sebastian's family. He's moving them to the Pueblo away from the ocean. Is his brother in law a policeman. There was a flashback to 3 years prior which I couldn't understand. Also is Sebastian into self harm? He has a bunch of cuts, or scars on his torso. They show him opening a Drs case of medical instruments.
That Atocha is a psychopath! Was she threatening Inigo at the waterfall when she tied his hands with a bandana and mentioned people who have died at the waterfall. And the way she terrorized poor Gus.
I don't understand why abuela(Covadunga, another weird name, she will be abuela to me throughout) won't sell some of her religious crosses to pay off her debt. It seems many have been in her family for generations, but it also seems she is addicted to buying more. Do they hope to turn the hacienda into a place people rent, bed and breakfast maybe?
Enough for now. I'll continue watching this, though the threat to Alba that she will pay off the family debt to Leo by marriage is ridiculous. Is he going to be a bigamist? Maybe his marriage to Julia wasn't valid. Poor Alba. 2 married guys wanting to marry her. I'm guessing Sebastian will be next to lust over her in true telenovela fashion.
Thanks, Jarifa, for some great “notes” on this episode. I couldn’t kick Gabriel. He needs to tell Marina everything. Then he needs to go to the police and tell him Victor is blackmailing him, and why. His other option seems to be Victor regularly asking for money, and getting back with Brisa, who is truly out of control. Why would you think blackmailing and threatening someone will make them fall in love.
Azul was annoying with all her questions about Estrella and Sergio’s big romance. I thought she overheard that her dad didn’t want her. If she’s old enough to be conniving she’s old enough to know her dad wanted an abortion.
It seems most of the adults are not Sergio fans. He’ll be even less popular when they find out he’s bringing a business in that will put the fishermen out of their jobs. I don’t think secrets stay secrets very long in that village.

What a sad episode. I felt so sorry for Karsu. While she was heartbroken Reha was just gleeful. So he thinks it’s great his sister is marrying into the Mafia. But only for how he will benefit. He still thinks Karsu was trying to make him jealous and still loves him. I hope things start getting bad for him.
It’s nice that Hasan isn’t all bad, but I’m not sure the fact that he doesn’t kill women and children makes him anywhere close to good. I am glad Genghis Kahn will get to live. I hope he can work in music again.
I thought Atilla told Lale he was mafia. We never really saw him tell her anything except that she couldn’t tell anyone he was mafia.

Are they really going to go through with the forced wedding? Come on...What time period is this? They kept going on about the 'new millenium' a couple of episodes ago.
How did Sebastian realize so quickly Leonel means it when he says 'you have to do what I say'. I mean, he is influential in his town but does he have enough influence to pretty much have anyone at his service?
This telenovela feels slightly...weird? What with the whole 'marry me to save your family' idea and that crazy abuelita. Camilo irritates me. He seems to lack self-confidence but he is fine with sacrificing Alba, be it by seeing her marry a liar or dragging her back to this insane house. Where is that therapist from eternamente amandonos when you need her?
Babachita – Thank you for the education about the hand kissing. I was thinking only mafiosi bosses got their hands kissed, but now I know it’s just part of Turkish culture!
Liz – I’m not sure what Atilla told Lale – my episode didn’t tape, so I couldn’t go back and re-check that scene. I believe he told her he was a writer in hiding because whatever he was writing was very explosive, and that she saw through that and went to her brother and told him to look out, mafia. But again, I’m not sure.
Also, I don’t know what to think about Lale. I have admired her ability to stay above the fray, to not let her brother’s drama and ridiculousness get to her, all the time still loving him and being amused by him, even telling him straight up that he’s a horrible human being. Is she really dangerous, as Atilla says? Also, I was surprised by Atilla’s animosity towards her. Yeah, that was bad that she came on to him, but he managed to make her a nice dinner once he untied her. Then he called her when he had to have a fake girlfriend and she came right away. I thought once they got home alone they’d have a friendly conversation about what to do now. Instead he's downright hostile. Why?
I’m wondering today if Hassan knew when he ordered Atilla to kill his brother that he wouldn’t really do it. We see he likes to play people and Mert’s his son after all.
Maggie, that’s really an interesting idea! Maybe Hasan is just testing Atilla. But, a very dangerous game! I’d like to think that Atilla’s family also starts to heal. The warden/prosecutor seems to treat him with respect, perhaps not only from fear. Lots of twists and turns!

Kat, maybe I'll rewatch this weekend too. I seem to have missed a lot too.
I'll skip right past the whole Camilo's cross being there doesn't prove anything because he could have lost that cross earlier in the day, or the day before, or the week before or the month before - because novelas have a tendency to arrest people for shaky 'proof' and we have beanies for that. But my beanie isn't big enough for Camilo's cross is proof that ALBA was involved??? How did she get arrested?? So, Camilo supposedly did it, and that means all three of them did it? I guess you could arrest abuela because she threatened Leo, but is Alba guilty by association? That's a mighty big leap.
The conversation Sabastian had with his brother-in-law cop was about the case of a missing woman. The brother-in-law said the case was driving him crazy and he was getting nowhere. Sabastian looked at the picture of the woman and it clearly made him uncomfortable. BIL said the look on his face said made him think he knew the woman and Sabastian confirmed that he did. That's all that was said. Not sure about the self-harm thing that was weird.
I didn't view the 'marriage proposal' as a threat or a 'forced marriage'. Yes, it would probably feel that way in Alba's shoes, but Leo is offering her a choice, it's choice between unappealing options, but still a choice. If he had said it when she was still in the jail cell as a marry me or rot in this jail cell, I'd see it more of being forced. As it is, Alba was begging for an opportunity to do 'anything' to prove her family is innocent and pay back the money they owe and Leo came up with a proposal, he even said: 'If you're willing to do anything, here's what you can do....' That's not to say it's not crazy and unreasonable, cuz it definitely is!
I think this is the first dizi/telenovela I've ever seen where a lack of daily recaps isn't causing the show to fall off the radar. Excellent comments, all.
The Reha actor is doing such a good job, and the words written for him are so maddening. I keep looking for signs of an insecurity that would cause him to be so completely self-absorbed, but I haven't noticed any. Hande was a game to him, fun on the side. Now that she's there all the time, he's exhibiting the same disregard he had for Karsu when she was under the same roof with him. Karsu's leaving was a blow to his ego, something that for him required retribution. Seeing her establishing a decent life and with a man in her life was unbearable. So he went to Hassan, pretending to be the innocent, loving husband. He left out their having separated before she even met Atilla.
Lale deserves the cold marriage she got. I like her less than some of you here. She has aided and abetted her brother's shameful behavior. She's shown up laden with expensive gifts, trying to show a contrast between what Karsu can give the children. And now she's become obsessed with the man she met during a business deal that fell through. Finding out he was related to a dangerous man didn't dull the obsession. Atilla's total contempt for her is earned.
I can hardly wait until Monday. I hope, and believe, that Karsu's reaction is not to become sad and bitter. I wonder if she'll stay at the bookstore. She doesn't really know he set that up, and that Cevdet is not a mostly absentee owner. But I'd like some more interesting and lucrative career for her.
Things are ambling along just fine in our summer novela . . .
Diana, yes, Brisa really has some serious problems since she doesn't even recognize a threat when she issues one: "If that isn't a threat, what is?" You said it! Yes, that was such a good scene with Sergio not wanting to touch the hands of the fishermen. Was he afraid he was going to stink of fish or what? I wonder if he thought at all about what he could catch at Erika's "one star at best" hotel. Sorry but I couldn't resist. He is such a creep.
Liz, one would think that Gabriel would know that the writing is on the wall and the time has come to come clean with the Iker issue with Marina and then with the authorities. The situation is not going to improve with that leech Víctor always lurking in the background and berserk Brisa who has no qualms about hurting anyone, including Iker, to get Gabriel back. Gabriel needs the support of his friend Fabián to point him in the right direction. "It seems most of the adults are not Sergio fans. He’ll be even less popular when they find out he’s bringing a business in that will put the fishermen out of their jobs." How long until that cat is out of the bag?
Can't wait until Monday!
After rewatching the first two episodes I've decided Alba and Camilo are siblings - he does call her hermana, but I still haven't heard Alba call him hermano which is odd. Either way, there's something off with them but then maybe it's all the betrayal between them? He has tried to help grandma 'sell her' off to pay the family debts.
