We start with a recap of Isabel’s death described so well by . Then Emilio comes in with flowers that he drops to go to Isabel, crying over her. Cris is behind looking sympathetic. Al says “Lo siento” to Emilio and this is all very sad.
.
Luisa and Marga talk to Ana about how Al is actually still married, which is a goo dpoint and Ana should listen. But she doesn’t. She knows he’s decided and it’ll be all good, but she needs to talk to Carlos, which I’m sure will go well. But then she gets a call from Emilio to tell her the news.
.
Pilar is back! She’s signed over a business to Esteban. I don’t understand what’s happening but I’m pretty sure they are going to cause problems for Velvet.
.
Mateo talks to David, who says it’s not his fault. David says Mateo just hasn’t supported David’s success at business. Clara is there and she says she won’t do anything with David unless he returns the tias’s money.
.
Ana and the girls try to comfort Emilio who is devastated that she dies just as the two of them found happiness.
.
Esteban is now at Blanca’s with a bottle of wine. They mention Isabel but don’t know yet about her death. Esteban tells Blanca about opening up a branch of business in NYC, something to do with high-end fabrics? Sofia is still going to work at Velvet.
.
Sofia, meanwhile, has gone to Rick’s to move in. What? She’s tired of her dad but decides she’s moving in with Rick? But Rick is semi-ok with this. Not sure what he’s thinking. Well, yes, I do know what he’s thinking but this won’t be good for him. What’s with these two cousins not knowing the words “no” and “get out of my apartment”.
.
Blanca and Esteban smooch. Pfft.
.
Luisa and the girls, including Ana, give their sympathies and hugs to Alberto, with Cristina carefully watching over him. Al asks Ana to help plan the funeral, which she agrees to.
.
Ana finds a huipil belonging to Isabel while Emilio looks over some of Isabels’ drawings. Seems she was a designer too. The drawing we see looks like that beautiful Mexican embroidery that I hope will show up on Ana’s designs soon.
.
Mateo offers to help Al with the services and Valeria offers her sympathies and says she’ll remember their last conversation always. She has other nice things to say about Isabel and give big brother a hug. When she leaves, Mateo asks Al if Isabel helped make things better with Valeria. (?). Valeria is young and doesn’t always make good choices, but I like her. Her decisions suck sometimes but she doesn’t.
.
Ana talks to Carlos about the funeral that Al wants to have at Velvet. She talks about Isabel’s light, wanting to help people, etc. Carlos draws Ana in for a hug and kiss but Ana isn’t in the mood. Then she tells him she can’t continue with him and breaks up with him. This happened much faster than I expected. Carlos is surprised too.

.
Carlos only wants to ask why, if he did something wrong. She tells him no, that he’s been great. He defends himself about the dead Kathy issue, thinking that’s why she’s dumping him, but Ana says it wasn’t that. She believes him and gives an it’s not you, it’s me excuse. But he’s not stupid and asks it’s because of Alberto, right? Then Emilio enters and Carlos gives him his condolences. Emilio thanks him for everything he did for Isabel and takes his leave. Ana thanks him as well and he gets his “I’m secretly a scary murderer” look as she leaves.
.
Emilio talks to Blanca about his grief at not even being able to get up too the mountains, the short time they had. Blanca talks about his making her happy but he feels totally alone now. Blanca promises that she is there for him, as is Ana and everyone at Velvet. He’ll never be alone.
.
Val introduces Sofia to Cris and the rest of the board, sans Alberto. Cris tells Valeria that a reporter confronted her about whether Al’s mother was still alive. Cris tells him now, but this is for some reason a big deal that they all want to keep quiet.
,
Al gets to the store and is offered sympathy from Raul. Then Rick tells him that Cristina has decided that the funeral will not be at the store and they’ll have to find somewhere else. Cris is on the phone telling someone that his mother died years ago when Al enters the office, angry about her decision. He will not allow her to be treated like a criminal. Cris is trying to protect his reputation, which he couldn’t care less about. There is yelling and he tells her if she doesn’t like it, she can leave. She look shocked. But then she yells back demanding respect. She says she’s only trying to help and protect him but he doesn’t want her to keep manipulating his life. There is screaming at him from her and then she storms out. Mateo comes in and Al is still yelling that this marriage needs to be over. He can’t take it anymore and then he breaks down on Mateo’s shoulder. This actor is very good at grief and it’s all so sad.
.
Carlos has asked Marga to the fancy, rich people bar to talk about Ana. He tells her that Ana broke up with him and he asks if she knew. Of course she did. They are best friends. He says he loves her and he’s worried that this happened because of Alberto Marquez. Carlos blathers that he thinks Al is trying to get in the way of her dreams with his new interview. Marga accepts this and says she’s talk to Ana. Marga may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, although she hasn’t seen his secret scary face.
.
Esteban argues with Sofia at the store about her being underage, which she says is just for another month. He asks if she has a fake id and gives her grief. If she’s 20, then she’s still an adult even if she can’t legally drink so what’s up with these two?
.
Ana does go to the interview that Carlos set up for her. The interviewer has a lot of positive things to say about her designs and tells her she’ll be traveling a lot and gives her a proposal to bring her into Sam and White.
.
David meets with the tias, while Mateo and Carla watch, to return all their money. The tias are happy but want to know if she’s still taking Clara with him. Sadly no because Clara can’t be that far from her dear Mateo. They toast the return of the money. So Mateo’s womenfolk are ok-ish with Clara? Or at least know they are together?

.
Ana asks about the contract and her designs. I think they’d belong to the company? But she’ll get to go all over the place meeting influential people and doing important fashion things. The interviewer person is smiling too much and probably can’t be trusted. Plus Carlos was involved, so there’s that.
.
Marga talks to Pedro about being very confused. She’s happy Clara isn’t going to Singapore but Luisa is leaving her there, and the death of Isabel, and then there’s the Ana situation. But then Pedro FINALLY asks her out on something that sounds like a date, just the two of them. Marga is happy about that.
.
Ana talks to Raul about the interview. There is lots of good things but as a disendora fantasma. So not getting credit for her designs, I assume? Raul doesn’t tell her what she should do but talks about his career and tries to guide her to her own decision. She says it would be a good opportunity but things are keeping her at Velvet.
.
Al has the funeral at Velvet in the end, coffin and all. Al talks about how she transformed his life and taught him time is precious. Then he calls up Emilio. He says some beautiful things about her while Enrique sits behind Ana looking bored, but he showed up. Can’t remember if Cris was there. Emilio is grateful for having been with her in her last days, and he stands with Alberto.
.
Ana has now beamed to the rich people bar to talk to Carlos. He asks about the interview. She’s not convinced, but he gives her the advice to take the job. It’s a great opportunity and being a fantasma designer will a better opportunity than she thinks. He’s being nice, and even says he’s not going to force feeling from her that aren’t there, but he still wants to be friends. She asks if that would be weird, but he says what he’d miss most about her is talking to her. He would never ever not ever want to make her uncomfortable but their friendship is important to him.
.
Pilar has someone in he office investigating something or another, and she wants Esteban, who is at her office, questioned about the funeral held at Velvet. But not to worry, little brother, because nothing will leave this office. Esteban looks uncomfortable. Oh! The guy is a reporter. Pilar is trying to get Alberto out of Velvet and put Esteban in, but Esteban is maybe having issues with her methods because she calls him a coward.
.
Carlos walks up to Alberto and gives his condolences. But then asks if he’s getting together with Ana. It’s nothing to him but he’s sure it will matter to Al’s wife. Carlos lets him know that she got an offer from Sam and White and he should let her go. Al says he’s not the one trying to control her and she can go work wherever she wants. Al puts him in his place, as much as Carlos can be stopped.
.
Cris is talking to her daddy about starting her own business at Velvet. Gerardo humors her but doesn’t seem convinced when he gets a text about something shocking. Then we go to Al in the store being ambushed by reporters about his mother. Fin.
.

Very OT: All the hype, well-deserved, about Kpop Demon Hunters reminded me of my favorite Korean novela, Como Aman Los Hombres, broadcast by Telemundo (I think) years ago. I discovered that it is available on YouTube, although for some reason Capítulo1 is missing, or rather what is labeled as Cap 1 is actually Cap 2. I did locate the original Cap 1 in Korean with English subtitles. If you'd like an alternative to the Turkish novelas, I highly recommend this Korean novela (only 20 eps). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXFNfM4QA_c&list=PL8UaFwjpDvHc_HqwMrFIPc0yFcDPNp_P1

Bahar

I have a question! We can tell Dr. Evren is really interested in Bahar. I thought he didn’t know she was Timur’s wife, but then in this episode he says wait’ll Seren finds out Bahar is her suegra. Has he known all along?

I wish they wouldn’t sit on that ledge on the hospital roof. It’s nervous-making!

Bahar

Maggie, IIRC, Bahar told Evren early in the story, when Evren remembered that he disliked Timur’s father. He was aware of the liver transplant situation, so he must have known by then. It’s possible she didn’t tell him, but he did find out. I may be wrong, however! Wouldn’t be the first time.

Velvet
K, thank you for an excellent recap. I am still having trouble with some of the characters , but your recap helped me.

Who is a Pilar?

Things are calming down here a bit, and I was told that the new doors for my powder room and utility room will be polyurathaned And hung on Wednesday . However, I have learned that people tell you that they are definitely going to do something , and then they don't show up and don't call with an explanation . Sorry . its been a long summer , and I am feeling cranky.
Anyhoo, I appreciate your recap. Susan

Bahar
Evren definitely knows they are married. He is the one that told them all Timur was a match when she needed a transplant.

Velvet

Hi Susan! You have a good reason to feel cranky. The heat is making me cranky. Definitely dog days of August!

I think Pilar is the sister of Benjamin and Esteban.

velvet

Thanks, K. Great recap.

Good grief. Did they buy Isa’s casket at Costco, dump her in, and sneak it into Velvet in the dead of night? A few words at the store? Burial? I feel like I should have a mass said for her.

Pilar—what a snake! She wanted Esteban to blab about Isa At least he felt guilty about it. But the damage was done. Anyway, this type of “scandal” isn’t enough to take down Velvet. Not in this day and age. Maybe it will backfire on the evil doers.

Rick and Blanca are playing with fire, messing with Los Marquez.

“Valeria is young and doesn’t always make good choices, but I like her. Her decisions suck sometimes but she doesn’t.” ITA

“Esteban argues with Sofia at the store about her being underage… what’s up with these two?” ITA. Esteban is trying to be a good father too late.

Yes, Ana just ripped off the band-aid on that breakup.

I’m angry at Marga again. So clueless. Her big mouth helped to get Rod killed and now she’s confirmed Ana wants Albert. How long before Carlos plants child p*rn on Albert’s computer and tries to kill him?

velvet

Fine recap, K. Again, I really admire your wit and funny descriptions of the often-inexplicable behavior of TN characters.

It seemed to me that what Pilar created with some help from a hacker was a montage of a business selling fine fabrics. It seemed to me that the plan was to have Esteban sell Alberto on the fake stuff and then leave him holding the bag with no raw materials for Velvet's designs. Enter Esteban (Pilar's puppet) and exit Alberto.

David had the gall to say that Mateo was envious of his business acumen! Clara said she'd out what he'd done in the earlier cyber scam in a podcast. Who knew Clara was a podcaster? Looks like the tias got their $$ back. They were shown looking at their accounts on their phones.

Yep, K., something odd must have happened in the Pedro/Rick family for them to both get bamboozled by two overbearing woman who move in with them.

I'm quite disappointed in Blanca for seemingly getting over a man who really loved her so quickly and forgiving a cad.

Laughed out loud at the "dead Kathy issue" and Carlos's "I'm secretly a scary murderer look".

It was outrageous of Cristina to cancel Alberto's plans to have Isabel's funeral at Velvet, but it's another plot device to make Cris unlikeable enough for Alberto and Ana to end up together.

Yon did a fantastic job in the scenes where he finally blows his stack at Cris and her manipulations and telling Mateo he couldn't stand being married to her any longer. I did not see Cris at the funeral. And, if she boycotted it, that was a bad move in her campaign to hang onto Alberto.

Raul was his usual supportive self. He agreed with Ana that it was not so great designing things you'd get no credit for. But you'd meet contacts in the haute couture world that would be worth a lot.

velvet

K., I always enjoy your recaps, and usually I'm able to offer some specific comments, but I was away all day, and now the new episode is about to start, and since I'm recapping it, I'd better stop writing now. But I did very much enjoy your recap. Many thanks.

Bahar

Timur is such an interesting character. He was such a jerk at the restaurant, and he was horrid dragging his daughter away from her wall-painting project and then devastating her by throwing her art supplies in a trash bag. What was unexpected was that after Bahar had stepped in and saved the art supplies, Timur thanked her for saving their kids from him. Dejected, he had a tearful talk with his mother, who blamed Bahar. But he didn’t. How did you interpret the next part? He seemed to be reproaching his mother for not doing something during his upbringing. We have gathered that his father was a nice guy, or at least was very good to Bahar. Is it that Timur didn’t want to be a doctor and he was forced to be?

Son Aziz is such a sweetheart, and Umay too. They’re so kind to one another.

First we find out Parla’s father doesn’t even live in the country, and for a final flourish, we find out he’s not even her father!

This was a great viewing night. Karsu was great and I thought Bahar was great too. And A.Mar is always fun.

Velvet Ep. 56 p. 1 of 3

The episode opens on a chaotic scene of reporters and photographers trying to get information (or at least good gossip) about Velvet and especially about Isabel Juárez. Is it true that your mother is dead? Why did you keep her hidden? Are the rumors about your mother true? Alberto calls what they are doing harassment, but they continue. "If he refuses to deny it, it must be true." Finally, Mateo comes and breaks up the questioning. He and Alberto leave. Mateo tells him that someone must have leaked this.

Emilio tries to get rid of the photographers and reporters. He then runs into Esteban. Emilio makes some remarks to Esteban that makes Esteban ask whether Emilio is insinuating that he--Esteban--had something to do with the mob scene at Velvet. The two men inform each other of their mutual dislike. Esteban accuses Emilio of always being Benjamin's informer, his yes man, the one who always covered up Benjamin's mistakes. Emilio warns Esteban to be careful with Blanca. "You already hurt her once," Emilio says. "But now she's not alone." Esteban recommends that Emilio retire.

Enrique is seething with anger over Alberto. He thinks Alberto is ruining Velvet. He seems especially angry that Alberto let Isabel be married at Velvet, and her funeral was also held at Velvet. A sudden meeting of Velvet's board has been called. Enrique, Gerardo, Alberto, Val, and Barbie (Barbie? What is she doing there?) meet to discuss the situation at Velvet. Enrique berates Alberto for all the publicity, and his speaking to the press. Gerardo asks Alberto to respond. Alberto is silent. (His silence is followed by several minutes of commercials.)

Emilio asks Rick about his feelings for Sofia. Rick says they're just friends. Emilio questions this, and Rick admits that they're good friends. Emilio points out that the Márquez family doesn't like their members going out with just anyone. He suggests that Rick look elsewhere.

Marga tells her sister Clara that she has a date. Clara seems surprised and asks, "Do I know him?" No. "Did you find him on the Internet?" No.
Marga tells Clara "He asked if I would like to watch a movie at his house."
Clara immediately gets excited. "Have a great time. And not just the movie!"

Meanwhile, Pedro is having a heart-to-heart with Rick. Rick assumes that Pedro has more planned than just the movie. "Take advantage of tonight," he tells Pedro. Pedro seems perplexed. Rick explains the everyone knows what you do if you invite a woman to your house. Pedro protests. Rick replies, "Tonight she's yours!"

Esteban tells Blanca that Emilio doesn't trust him. Blanca seems surprised. "For me, he's intachable (irreproachable, faultless).

Carlos approaches Emilio and asks about Ana. Emilio replies that he doesn't meddle in her private life. Carlos keeps pushing, mostly unsuccessfully, for more information. He tells Emilio about the offer Ana has from Saman White, and he urges Emilio to talk with Ana about this and encourage her to take it.

Sure enough, Emilio and Ana get together. He tells her that Carlos came to see him, and he (Emilio) asks Ana why she didn't tell him she had broken up with Carlos, and also about the Saman White offer. She explains to him that yes, it was a very attractive offer, but her designs would not be in her name. He's eager to hear more, but Alberto has asked him to be with him when he talks to the press, so he has to leave

velvet Ep. 56 2 of 3

Alberto and Emilio face the press. Alberto says that Isabel was a good, noble woman who was the victim of a terrible injustice. She's the one who gave me life. She has my love and respect. He then turns the conversation over to Emilio, her husband. He starts by saying "My wife spent 25 years in prison. You know that. Let me tell you what you don't know. She was a singer and a seamstress. As a very young woman, she and Benjamin Márquez fell deeply in love. From that love, a child was born. A professional killer was sent to murder her. She defended herself. In the struggle, the gun went off, killing the would-be assassin. It was self-defense, but often the powerless are not heard. When she finally was released from prison, all she wanted was to see her son, who had been taken from her.

The Velvet board is still meeting. Enrique is furious at what Alberto and Emilio did. "Alberto put a store manager in front of the cameras to say exactly the opposite of what we wanted." Barbie thinks that Alberto should go away with his wife for a few days.

Raúl is having some sort of crisis. His creativity is blocked. He asks Ana what she's planning to do. Ana tells him that she can't leave Velvet when it is in the midst of tumult. Raúl says he thinks her time at Velvet is over. She should leave before the ship sinks.

Blanca talks to Sofia. Sofia refers to her as her father's lover, and says she's far from the only one he has had. Blanca replies "I am NOT your father's lover!" Sofia asks, "You think he thinks differently? He is interested in women of a different level."

Ana comes to Saman White to give them her decision. She tells them that she's sorry, but she can't accept the offer. "Right now, I have to be loyal to Velvet. It's not just a job. It's my friends and family." The woman interviewing her (Samantha?) tells her "Some opportunities only appear once." "Yes, I know" replies Ana.

At the board meeting, Enrique asks Alberto to step down as President. He proposes Val take Alberto's place. Val is quiet for a few moments and then says, "I want to be President, but not like this. I will not betray my brother. He has a plan for the company that he has not completed. Removing him would leave his work incomplete." An angry Enrique tells her to think with her head, not her heart. She tells him that's what she is doing. "I trust Alberto as a businessman, and even though we are going through a tough time, I know he'll do what is best for Velvet. I've made my decision. Alberto stays."

Blanca asks Emilio whether he withheld from Esteban that she'd had a child. Emilio assures her that he did no such thing. He cautions her to be careful when it comes to Esteban.

Sofia tells Val that some of the publicity surrounding Alberto and his mother has been positive. He is seen as a son who supports his mother. She suggests to Val that they could make a campaign around the issue. "What Alberto did is resonating with our biggest market." She talks about the steps they could take, including a billboard in Times Square!

Alberto meets with the lawyer who has prepared the divorce papers. The lawyer says the case looks strong, as long as there's nothing negative. Alberto says he cannot ask Sara to lie for him. The lawyer tells him that if it came out that Alberto was unfaithful, all would be lost. The lawyer says that Alberto needs simply to sign the divorce papers, but he should remember that once he does this, there's no going back. Mateo tells Alberto that he doesn't have to sign right now. Alberto does so anyway. [Hmmm...could Carlos make sure that Sara reveals that Alberto slept with her while married to Cris, and would that do in the divorce plan?]

velvet ep. 56 3 of 3

Cris says to Barbie, "I'm married to a man whose mother was in jail, a murderer." Barbie replies, "You knew what you were getting into. And you knew that your father paid money." Cris tells her that Alberto wants to talk to her tonight.

Raúl is astonished that Ana turned down Saman White. Ana shows him the drawing of the Oaxacan skirt and other similar designs. Raúl is suddenly excited. His creativity is returning as he looks at the drawings.

Esteban gives Alberto the false impression that he has a company that deals with high class fabrics, and that he had had this company in London as well. Alberto wants to use Esteban's fabrics.

Alberto wants to show the fabrics to Raúl. Esteban calls Pilar to tell her that Alberto offered to work with him, but he wants to see the fabrics. Pilar assures him all will be well.

Enrique is angry with Val. "I gave you the Presidency on a silver platter." Val replies, "And I said I didn't want it that way." Enrique tries to get her to distrust Alberto.

Alberto comes to talk with Cris, who is waiting for him in a sexy black slip. He says that their relationship isn't going well. She replies that she thinks what they need is a one-week stay at Punta Cana. He tells her he thinks their relationship can't be fixed. The best thing is a divorce. Cris looks stunned, and the episode ends.

Bahar

Timur's dad threw his artwork in the fire and told him being an artist was a worthless occupation. He is going to be a surgeon and that's it. Timur's mom didn't support (stand up to his dad) him at all, unlike Bahar who fights for her children.

Evren saw the bracelet twin that Bahar has when Timur dropped it from his pocket. He also saw it wasn't Bahar's as she was wearing it.

Rengin is a mess, making poor work diagnosis, etc. no surprise she crashed her car trying to get to Parla. Pretty sure the next episode everything will be out in the open regarding Parla's parentage.

Bahar

Thank you, Kat! I didn’t get that part about Timur’s dad throwing his art work away. Burning it up! Now everything makes sense. So Timur was thanking Bahar for protecting their children, and blaming his awful mother because she didn’t do the same, right?

So that means that Timur’s dad was not a nice guy at all. But we do know that he loved Bahar and was good to her. Hmmm.

velvet

Terrific recap, Juanita! You've alerted me to a possible gumming up the works by Carlos vis a vis Alberto's one nighter with Sara coming to light. Does Carlos know about that?

When did Gerardo get a seat on the Board? I thought Enrique was his stand-in. I did notice Gerardo restrained his bad seed boy when he lunged at Valeria after his desire to get rid of Alberto was foiled.

Pedro and Marga, sigh. This part seems very dated. These two have real jobs in high fashion, even if Pedro is just a handyman who gets shocked doing electrical work. But they're portrayed as having the emotional depth of high schoolers.

Could they hurry up with that great big anvil for Enrique...pretty please.

What's the point of Sofia. That same actor had an irrelevant role in Vuelve a Mí. OTOH I liked her idea of spinning Alberto's loyalty to his unjustly imprisoned mother into business for Velvet.

Happy to see that Emilio revealed one lie from Esteban. But unhappy to see that Alberto didn't even take time to think it over and accepted Esteban's "wonderful fabrics" immediately. It strains MY belief that Alberto hadn't heard about Esteban's bad habits from his father. Was it gambling away some of the family fortune, can't remember for sure?

Mr. Google tells me that you can still get a divorce in NY State if one of the parties is unwilling. But it seems to involve the unwilling party not responding to the filing. The other way, they go to court.

Two-faced Cris rides again. She's supportive to Alberto in his presence, but her true character is revealed when she spends time with the unlikeable Barbie. Even Barbie brought it up that Alberto likely married her for her father's propping up the family business and that she'd be better off with a divorce.

AND Clueless Cris wants her husband, who's just survived an attempt to oust him from his family's business, to take a week's trip with her.

I keep holding my breath about the possibility of Carlos putting one of those chloroform rags over Ana's face and spiriting her away.

velvet

Sofia is a brat but also 20 and therefore good at social media. She was smart to use the current "crisis" as a marketing tool, and Val is listening to her so maybe there is hope for Sofia, if her father doesn't mess this up. Still not sure what happened in London but the girl is old enough to get a job, especially if she can get it in the family business and start on the ground floor of the executive suite.

Blanca better not listen to Enrique over Emilio. She is old enough to know better. But best of all, new Raul designs! I love Mexican embroidery and can't wait to see what he comes up with.

velvet

Thanks VERY much, novelera, for your great comments.

I can't recall anything specific, but I have a strong sense that Sara and Carlos know each other well. It wouldn't surprise me if he knew about her brief flirtation with Alberto. And whereas Sara could ruin Alberto's divorce plan all by herself, I don't sense that she has any strong wish to do so. But if she and Carlos are good friends, and if Carlos does know that she slept with Alberto, Carlos would certainly be motivated to use that knowledge to ruin Alberto's plans to divorce Cris and marry Ana.

Yes, I'm not wild about Sofia, but I too like her bizarre plan to turn Alberto's loyalty to Isabel into financial gain for Velvet. Though a billboard in Times Square....?

I was surprised twice last night by choices Alberto made. Both his immediate decision to include Esteban's fabrics (though at least he does want to show them to Raúl) and his impulsive signing of the divorce document without giving it more careful thought made me uneasy. And, like you, I had thought that Benjamin would have given Alberto warnings about Esteban's weaknesses.

And yes yes yes, I fear that Carlos is likely to plan something awful to avenge Ana's choosing Alberto over him. Perhaps including the use of the tried and true chloroform rag to whisk her away. But I'm also assuming that we'll have a HEA ending. Ojalá.

Velvet #57 part 1

We open with Alberto telling Chris there marriage isn't working. A divorce will be best for both of them. Chris of course disagrees. This is a nightmare.

Shy and Rick are at the apartment building. Rick forgot his wallet so he runs back to get it. Blanca catches her. Aha, you were with Rick and not the girls and I suppose you used a fake ID. Does Rick know your true age? (BLANCA IS DEFINITELY out of place here, it's really none of her business).

Mateo has had an enlightenment. It's time t o get his own place so he and Clara can spend more time together. Clara points out how good he has it at home with the maid service of his aunts and mom (I'm sure it's actually the cook and maids if they are millionaires. He just needs to get a maid at his new pad as he appears to come from old money.)

Back to Sophie and Blanca who are now drinking tea or something together in Blanca's apartment. She tells Sophie a bit about her love affair with Esteban (not about the baby though). She was about her age when they had their affair but then he went to London and got married. I married my husband and we had a daughter together:Jennifer. Then he died. Sophie asks why doesn't Jennifer live with you(what is with these kids never leaving home?) She used to work together at velvet but their was too much friction between us so she got a job in Miami. I was to protective and controlling of her but it's because I care. Your father is doing NH the same yo you became loves you. Sophie doesn't buy it, he's always been self centered. Blanca says give him a chance.

Emilio is mourning over old photos of Isa. Ana advises him to put them away as they are upsetting him. Atbleast you got to have some time with her and saw justice served(Huh?) Emilio points out justice was not served until Gloria pays. Ana questions, are you sure it was Gloria. Yes. She hired an assassin and when that failed she got her locked up for life. He's going to keep searching for proof. Ana thinks he should just let it be, her punishment is being miserable.

Darn, more Chris and Al. It's that other woman right? (Yup). He says it was a one time deal and it meant nothing to me. We made a mistake getting married, we did much better as friends. Chris says we were happy on our honeymoon. He says we are living a lie. Now she's getting mad. A lie that made you a lot of money. ( I'm in the camp of the Orteguis should get the company after his lies and manipulation personally. I just really dislike him! ) she tells him you have a contract you can't break. He says you knew? She nods her head yes. He wonders how she could have gone through with it. Because I've loved you forever and this was how I could get close to you. Th a t contract will not be broken and we are not getting a divorce. She leaves the room wearing a black trench coat over her neglige, passing Val downstairs and leaves the apartment. Val tells him some home truths I agree with totally. What is different. Why now. You are destroying our father's legacy, our employees will lose their jobs because you decided to start a war with the Ops. Al tries to justify it. We are doing better. Dad wouldn't have wanted me to be unhappy, bla blah... (what a shame Enrique was already engaged. Val could have roped him and got the money that way!)

I'm typing this on my tablet as I foolishly decided my phone update would finish quickly. Over an hour later it's still only 75%done! I type so much faster on the phone.

Velvet # 57 part 2

Pedro and Marga's date is not going well. What a surprise! He has an upset stomach from eating hot dogs, that were actually expired sausages that he bought at the grocery. Marga advises him how to shop and check expiration dates. She's going to make him some soup. Silly scene i don't feel like retelling, but they finally confess there mutual love for each other. No kiss because he's puking again.?

Barbie needs a new bleach job, her dark roots are really showing. Perhaps she is thinking of the baby. Chris and she discuss Alberto. Maybe you should divorce is her advice. No way. I'm going to find out who the other woman is because obviously that is why he wants a divorce. Barb will help her discover who it is.

Clara wonders what has made Marga so happy ( she's humming in their apartment). M says she has a BF. Clara is like whoa, so fast you just met the guy. Margaret says I've known him for years. Clara guesses, Pedro?

Esteban visits Blanca in the atelier. You're looking at the new fabric supplier for Velvet. Congratulations! You are on the way to that family reunion you so want. I hope i don't let anyone down he says. She tells him she has news too, she's making strides with Sophie. He's happy to hear that.

Raul walks in. Blanca introduces the two. He's also your new supplier..

Clara gives it to Pedro who's eating Ramen noodles with a shaking hand in the cafeteria at work. What's this about you and my sister, how long has this been going on? Ah, she's just messing with him. My sister is not alone, you better treat her right. She hugs him, she is so happy for them both.

Al and Ana up on the roof again. He tells her I asked Chris for a divorce last night. Nothing will separate us. She feels like it's a dream. I love you. They kiss. I want to ff... (and i did through the commercials). How did Chris take it. Badly. But I'll take care of it. More kisses...

Barbie talks to Enrique about Chris and her flying off the handle. Apparently a few years back there was an episode. She improved after she went to Germany with your dad. Enrique chuckles. He actually checked her into a clinic for a week where they kept her sedated. Chris is a lot like my mom, but she also makes herself out to be the victim and manipulates dad to get whatever she wants. Barbie is surprised. Aren't you afraid she'll end up like your mom? ( Barbie may want to worry a bout her baby with those mental heath genes in the family).

Velvet #57 part 3

Yay back on the phone. I'm tempted to make the rest of this short and sweet.

Next morning. Chris is back home, still in her trenchcoat. Val tries to sneak past her. Chris says you know. Val says yes. Al told me. Chris says he loves me, he's just confused. She wants to know who's the other woman? Val says she doesn't know.

Chris is on the warpath looking for Sara at work with her wingman Barbie in town.

Val goes to Mateo hoping he has some influence over Al. He tells her nothing I can do or say will change his mind.

Barbie tries to reason with Chris. Oh joy, here's Carlos. Sara is on a month long vacation. Barbie whispers see, take her off the list). They make their excuses and leave. Carlos stops Barbie to ask what's up? She says it's personal. But don't tell Sara we were here. He's all helpful to her.

Raul presents the theme of his new collection based on Isa's designs. Enrique thinks she should be dropped and forgotten. Val and Al disagree

Ana tells the sisters about all seeking a divorce. Clara tells Ana about Cupid striking Marga and Pedro also. Hugs all around.

Barbie is trying to get Chris to take some pills to calm her down. She doesn't want her to have a breakdown like last time and get committed. Oops

Barbie meets with Carlos at a restaurant. He wonders what's up.with Chris. She's jealous. Of Sara. She lets him know divorce is on the table. He tells her it's not because of Sara. She and her husband have a rock solid (swinging) marriage.

Esteban wants to have dinner with Sophie and go play pinball somewhere since that is what she likes. You spoke to Blanca, right. He explains she is part of his past. They loved each other at the time. Now they are old friends reconnecting. Sophie thinks it's more than that on Blanca s part.

Chris goes to see Emilio at work and flat out asks him does all have another woman. Emilio pulls the I'm just an employee here which Chris calls his bluff. You are the quintessential keeper of secrets around here. Who is she? He says i just work here. I just lost my wife. I deserve some respect. Bye.

Emilio tells Ana about it. Chris is not taking it well. Ana says yeah, Al told me. Emilio says why didn't you tell me? She didn't want to worry him. Foolish Ana thinks it will all blow over after the divorce. Emilio says this is one furious lady, it is not going to be easy for all.

Bahar

Ok! I’m so excited about what I think was revealed tonight. But maybe I’m wrong. Are Timur and Evren brothers? Or am I confused?
The parallels are interesting. Evren and Parla growing up in the dark, hidden. Timur and Umay, on the contrary, grew up legitimate, in the light.

The scene with Rengin in the ER, where Timur operates, but Bahar intervenes to save Rengin, was very moving.

Just some comments!

Thanks very much, Kat, for this fine recap. I'm amazed that you can watch and type at the same time, especially since you're presumably talking about typing on your tablet and your phone. I can't type for more than a couple of sentences on either my phone or my tablet. I wish I could. For recaps (or just about anything else longer than a paragraph), I go to my desktop computer with its full-size keyboard. Which means I'm never watching and typing at the same time. My computer isn't even in the same room as the TV. Sigh.

I found myself very nervous for much of tonight's episode. It's clear that Alberto and Ana will be in deep mierda if and when they get caught kissing, etc. by Cris or Carlos or any of their minions (e.g., Barbie). So every time Ana and Al were together tonight, I found myself fearing that they'd be caught. Silly, I know.

Speaking of Barbie, I loved your saying "Cris is on the warpath looking for Sara at work with her wingman Barbie in tow."

And yes, the scene between Pedro and Marga was silly. Indeed, all the scenes between them have been pretty ridiculous. But I actually enjoyed tonight's scene, probably because they finally did manage to express their feelings for each other. Weeks ago, I was hoping Marga would find someone a little smarter and more capable than klutzy Pedro, but the more I see of them, the more I think they're right for each other.

I was rather surprised by the episode's ending. Barbie tries to get Cris to calm down, and she offers her a pill that will help calm her, a pill that Barbie too has taken, though not since she's been pregnant. Cris doesn't want to take it, but finally she does take one and puts it in her mouth. Barbie then leaves. I wasn't at all surprised when, as soon as Barbie left, Cris spits out the pill. However, I WAS surprised when, a minute or two later, she takes the bottle of pills, pours them into her hand, and (I think) swallows them all, with help from a bottle of what looked like Scotch or bourbon. However, I'm sure we haven't seen the last of her.

Bahar

Babachita – I don’t think Timur and Evren are brothers, but sometimes I’m clueless!

I loved how they showed Bahar’s realization about Rengin and Timur. Look at Timur lie and deny! And we see Evren’s starting to suspect too. When she and he went up on the roof with Parla and had a refreshing scream, I was thinking if I was coming into a hospital I sure would be nervous if I heard people screaming. Not the best publicity.

The writing is terrific, and I love how they are weaving the story together.

Selem is such a jerk.

Bahar

Maggie,

There were some clues that led me to my wild guess about Timur and Evren. While Evren was first consoling Parla, he tells her he also had lots of lies told him about his father. Then he had a flashback to the orphanage. He was left there by a woman who sounded just like Nevra. I thought to myself that couldn’t be. But after I thought for awhile, I remembered he had made a negative comment about Aziz , Timur’s father, about the time when he first met Bahar.

After Rengin was stabilized at the hospital, Evren gave Parla a jar in which to bury the lies she was told where it most hurts. Later, it showed a flashback of him burying his jar near a big house that might be the same house that Bahar and fam live in.

Then it shows a flashback where Aziz asks Nevra for a divorce because Selma was pregnant. A young boy, Evren, overhears this. The earlier flashback shows him about that age being left at the orphanage by a woman who sounds like Nevra.

Evren tells Cagla that he won't let the Yavuzoglus hurt Bahar as well.

They showed Timur and Evren together in several scenes, further making me think they looked enough alike to be half-brothers.

It’s a crazy theory, but it would be an interesting addition to the story of this family! If so, what happened to Selma?

OT Velvet

I posted 4 parts. The last comment seems to be missing.

Velvet

Juanita, my final comment went to spam. I was surprised Barbie gave Chris as bottle of prescription drugs. Some OTC herbal remedy. I could see, but it was definitely a prescription bottle. I mentioned it in the final missing comment (I thought it may have been whiskey, lol).

Bahar

I interpreted the flashback differently. I assumed the child was Timur that overheard Asiz and Nevra speaking. I don't see why Evren would have been in their house. My crackpot theory is the Great Asiz somehow botched something in Evren's mother's prenatal care, based on the old newspaper archives he was looking up early in the series. Some lady drops Evren off at an orphanage when his mom died. Now, like Parla, the possibility that the older child of his lover is also his, so that doesn't rule out the brother possibility. When child Evren buried the "swear jar" outside a house did any of you you think it was the orphanage or perhaps Timur and Bahar's house? I wonder who the last that dropped him off promising to visit was. A maternal aunt perhaps?

I agree the writers are doing a great job on this one. The only surprising thing is how much Bahar gets called in for medical emergencies with only 2 or 3 months of residency under her belt.

All the characters are likeable in some way except Selim.

Bahar

All of these are plausible. We just have to wait patiently until it unfolds!
