Información pública (Public Information) (#10 should have been Temictli, Book)
We open with Pablo and Karen as they end their argument on the fallout from his article. Pablo removes the ID from around his neck and puts it on the desk. Karen is beside herself.
Octavio is giving a press conference, an unsmiling Gabriela by his side as he vehemently denies Pablo’s accusations. Karen watches intently as Octavio derides Pablo; she brings the computer into the office where the staff watches with great interest. Eloisa’s three children are also riveted to the screen as they sit on the bed to watch. Elsewhere, Carmela sits on a sumptuous couch with a cup of coffee watching dispassionately. Naturally, Octavio is asked about Eloisa and Pablo.
Samuel and judgmental Antonia bring Eloisa the recording. Renata sticks up for Eloisa, telling her she is a wonderful woman and mother who has made great sacrifices for her children Octavio had an affair for several years, Eloisa has one boyfriend. She then defends Eloisa to Samuel. He walks up to her, putting his hand on her face as she backs up a bit. He smiles and then pulls her close. They kiss just as Antonia comes back but mercifully, she doesn’t see them. After he leaves, Renata puts her hands to her lips, looking guilty and conflicted (as well she should I huff).
Gabriela brings up Pablo to Octavio. They repeat the same old argument culminating in him telling her (for the hundredth time) that Eloisa is the mother of his children and that it’s not easy. He pleads the old “give me more time” as he cups his hand around her chin. They kiss and she giggles. Vamos. Eloisa leaves a voice mail for Octavio; I believe apologizing for things with Pablo leaking out.
Pablo comes back to the office and Karen hugs him; she is concerned for him.
Eloisa tells her two amigas she is a zorra as they disagree and comfort her. Pablo calls Eloisa but she seems to put him off. A woman in a rose-colored dress (I don’t know who she is – her sister perhaps?) calls Eloisa reading her the riot act. Renata complains to Leticia about what a raw deal Eloisa is getting.
Samuel is in the car with a pouting Antonia.
Tomas and his friend are playing video games when Antonia gets home. I believe she tells him she is going to keep the baby. He tells her she isn’t alone.
It seems a doctor has made a house call at Carmela’s. Eloisa defends Pablo as Carmela tells her to recoup her family and her marriage. Eloisa kisses her head and stands to leave as her mother spews out more vitriol masquerading as advice.
Diana
Karen and Julieta discuss Pablo. Karen tells her Pablo is interested in Eloisa; Julieta is impactada, the shock registering on her face. She kisses Karen on her cheek and hurries off.
Octavio is in a restaurant on the phone when Gabriela slithers in. She is petulant and distant. He clicks his wine glass against the other which Gabriela has eschewed. She is in no mood and ends up grabbing her purse and leaving.
More early morning drama. Matilde complains and refuses a drink that the housekeeper made for her because it has too many calories! Eloisa says it doesn’t and makes her apologize. She tries to reason with her daughter who wants to be perfect. Eloisa breaks the bitter news to her that no one is perfect. Matilde get more agitated and Eloisa tries to calm her down.
At the ballet academy, Matilde’s friend shows her a picture of Pablo. Julieta questions Matilde about her injury. It is clear Matilde is completely disregarding any advice her doctor is giving her. She is put in charge of the music as the other students dance.
Octavio mewls to Bernardo as I wonder if they ever talk business as their conversations always seem limited to Octavio’s perpetual crises in his marriage and with his mistress.
Pablo drops his son off at school and runs into Matilde who rudely tells him off about her mother. Julieta confesses to Pablo that she has been taking money (not sure from where).
The housekeeper talks on the phone with her daughter (?)
Eloisa is in her workshop working with clay when Renata brings her dinner and a big ‘ole bottle of tequila. Pablo is being interviewed on Sara Lazarus’ talk show. She pumps him on his relationship with Eloisa.
Octavio meets with Carmela. He is clearly ill at ease (good) as they sit formally holding their china cups and saucers. Octavio is being lectured about Eloisa but on exactly what I cannot say.
Tonight was one intense conversation followed closely by another: too fast and furious for me to keep up. I left several placeholders. Kindly add to or correct; your insight and invaluable comments are greatly appreciated.
No show tomorrow night.
Diana
Diana, yes, this was one intense episode where it seemed that there was never a break! Thank you for your very fine summary. I never thought this episode was going to end.
Okay, at the press conference, Octavio makes it clear that nobody but Ismael was responsible for his death. He also rejects the claims of Pablo Casas in his article. They have zero tolerance for sexual harassment. Ismael was not the victim. The only victim was the woman that was sexually harassed. Octavio suspects that Octavio published the article for vengeful and personal reasons. There are to be no questions at the end of the press conference BUT a "journalist" yells out a question about the relationship between Octavio's wife and Pablo Casas. That question shifts the public's focus away from the article and on to the connection between Eloísa and Pablo which results in ugly things being said about Eloísa all over the internet.
In the second to the last scene of the episode, Pablo is on a podcast with a friend examining the situation he finds himself in. Eloísa is listening. He wants to clarify things. Octavio Hidalgo and his ex were separated when he came on the scene. Nobody fired him. He quit based on principle. As for Eloísa, he is not going to talk about her out of respect. He does want to make it clear that they had nothing to do with each other while he was working on the article so there was no conflict of interest. She never knew about his investigation. Pablo believes that all the unknown "journalist" wanted to do was to distract everyone and get them to focus on something else. He wants the people who are listening to ask themselves who would benefit from changing the topic of Octavio persecuting Ismael to Octavio's ex Eloísa and him. A real journalist wouldn't hide behind the question. Pablo believes the truth always comes out in the end. . . and it does.
The last scene is between Octavio who has come to visit Carmela. Carmela is angry because Octavio told her that with the press conference the only one that would end up getting hurt would be Pablo. Octavio says that if he had known that Eloísa was going to get hurt, too, he never would have suggested the press conference. It hurt him, too. He tells her that Eloísa left him a voice message apologizing to him . She seemed more serene and different. Carmela says Eloísa did come to visit her and she seemed to be less emboldened and upset. Octavio tells Carmela that he knows it wasn't an easy decision but it was the right one. He thanks her. She answers that there is no need for thanks. He did it for her daughter so Pablo would not take advantage of her. She is only asking him that Eloísa never find out what they did. Never. Ever. End of this episode.
Yes, I believe that the woman in the pink dress was Fer(nanda), Eloísa's sister. She lives in a different city, but called the doctor for her mother who almost passed out. She blames Eloísa because of all of the gossip she has caused.Their mother's life has been a nightmare. Eloísa find out that her mother suffered a bout of low blood sugar caused from stress. No blood pressure or heart rhythm problems. After the doctor leaves, Carmela tells Eloísa that what she has cannot be fixed. It is the shame she feels because Eloísa is involved with a man without scruples.
Yes, after Antonia tells her boyfriend that his role as a novio is coming to an end. He admits that she is the strongest woman he knows; a real bad*ss. She will not have to go it alone. They are going to have a baby. She loves him, too.
FINALLY, Eloísa hears from the cook Yaneli that Matilde isn't eating. Matilde gets ugly with Yaneli and Eloísa has to force her to apologize. Eloísa finds out about her daughter she never knew. Matilde insists that she is going to ballet class only to watch. (we never knew what kind of injury she had, the doctor threatened her with a plaster cast if she didn't wear the brace. Was it a break? a lesser kind of fracture? She was to try to stay off of it for 12 weeks.) Matilde tells her she will only eat what is necessary. She has to meet certain standards for the ballet and Julieta's world. She has to be perfect. Matilde says she would rather be dead if she cannot be a ballet dancer.
At the ballet school, Matilde takes off the brace and wraps her foot in an elastic bandages. Julieta sees that immediately and wants to know what is going on. Matilde says she tripped. Matilde wants to know what is wrong exactly. Julieta tells her she cannot stress the foot for a week . . . according to the doctor then it is until tomorrow. Matilde says putting stress on things is what they do. She has given performances with back injuries and family crises. Performances do not wait for anyone. That being said she tells Matilde to be in charge of the music during practice.
We find out why Pablo's credit card didn't work when he was with Eloísa. It turns out that the ballet school is in trouble and Julieta had been using the charge card but then could not pay it off. Pablo also has found out that their bank account has nothing left in it for the same reason. She is upset that Pablo just up and quit because she was waiting for his next check to be deposited to be able to support their son.
That is all from me.
Jarifa, your brilliant narrative illuminated so much that was dark and murky. How fortunate we are to be the recipients of your wise insight and generous time.
"...he is only asking him that Eloísa never find out what they did. Never. Ever" was a deafening thunderbolt.
Earnest "Pablo believes the truth always comes out in the end. . . and it does". A good man who embodies many kind and honest attributes. But are he and Eloisa destined to be together? Octavio's smothering tentacles and persecution in the press aside, Eloisa might be too entrenched in her (thus far disapproving) family and lack the strength (and perhaps desire) to give up everything for him.
"Matilde says she would rather be dead if she cannot be a ballet dancer". Does the silly girl not realize the grave physical repercussions if she doesn't follow the doctor's instructions? Her desire outweighs her talent it sadly appears. She needs to be told the unvarnished truth. She cannot do herself harm for a career she will likely never achieve.
While Renata technically hasn't crossed the line of no return with Samuel, she is certainly straddling it. Time for her to put an end to his infatuation once and for all.
Julieta's using the credit card to keep her academy going was reckless. What did she think would happen when the credit ran out?
Fernanda's appearance, out of the blue, was unepected and a bit confusing at this late date.
Thank you so much Jarifa. This was amazing.
Diana
This was fabulous – absolutely loved your recap and comments Diana, and your details and comments Jarifa! You both clarified a lot of stuff for me.
Still, I’m confused about the “journalist” who threw out the question about Pablo’s and Eloisa’s relationship. Was that a plant organized by Eloisa’s mom and Octavio?
I’m impressed how well Eloisa is keeping it together. First, there’s the gross unfairness being so harshly criticized for her brand-new relationship while Octavio seems to be getting a lot of slack for his 2-year relationship that broke up the marriage. The kids are critical, and her mother thinks she should just mind the home fires so when Octavio comes back, which she is sure he will, he will admire her for being so noble. Barf. Now Eloisa is being trash talked in social media. After all that, I’d be cowering in a closet with a box of chocolates. Well, she does have excellent girlfriends. Yay for the sisterhood!
Diana, that was some episode, wasn’t it? Let us hope they are a little less packed with info going forward. Also, I agree that we didn’t need “Fernanda” calling from somewhere out there to add more unnecessary details and pressure Eloísa at this point. Give us a break! Then there is Renata AND Samuel. Each one should know better and I have no sympathy for either not being a fan of the “It just happened” excuse that Octavio used earlier for his romance with Gabriela in the series. So when does Eloísa find out? She is getting more isolated by the day.
Maggie, confused? You and me both. I went over that last scene several times thinking I had missed something. Carmela making Octavio promise that Eloísa never find out what they did was what made me conclude that they staged the whole press conference along with “the journalist.” It just seemed to be harsher on Eloísa than what they had expected. Loved the “cowering in the closet with a box of chocolates” comment.
Thank you so much Maggie.
"I’m impressed how well Eloisa is keeping it together" is exactly right just for the reasons you stated so impressively. I also loved "cowering in the closet with a box of chocolates". I'd be doing that - at the very least. Eloisa is made of stern stuff; I especially loathe that her children are being so harsh and critical. Expected of Antonia and mean spirited Matilde, but not Samuel.
Great question about the press conference; Jarifa's answer seems perfect.
Diana
Jarifa, yes, last night every scene seemed pivotal, every word seemingly important. Before I could try to digest what just occurred and/or take a breath, it was onto the next scene equally as vital to the storyline.
Thank you so much for "Carmela making Octavio promise that Eloísa never find out what they did was what made me conclude that they staged the whole press conference along with “the journalist.” I would not have connected the dots. I was thinking there was some terrible dark secret these two loathsome accomplices shared (I'd put nothing past them).
Loved your "She is getting more isolated by the day". So true!
I would be lost without your marvelous translations; thank you for making all of this make sense.
I am relieved there is no show tonight. I need to try and gather and conserve energy for tomorrow's sure fire rapid events.
Diana
Diana, I would put nothing past Octavio and Carmela either. Pablo asking who had the most to gain from the "journalist's" question helped me along, too. Thinking back on it today, when Octavio mentioned, almost in passing, that Pablo had written the article against him because of some "personal and vengeful" reason, he had created the perfect set up for the "journalist." My brain doesn't like to work this hard. Need to see what is on tonight. : )
Thanks, Diana and Jarifa, that was excellent. So much happened last night, Diana your summary was a great reminder of all the events!
I don’t understand why Pablo is sharing a credit card with his ex. That seems a little crazy. And Julieta waiting for his next paycheck to help her. He was foolish to give her access to his money so freely. I hope he makes new arrangements for the distribution of his paycheck. Julieta seemed short with Matilde. I wonder if she’ll be hard on her because her mother is dating Pablo. Even if she isn’t, I’m sure Matilde will blame her mother for anything that goes wrong with her ballet.
Octavio cheated on Eloisa for two years, behind her back, sneaking around, but her kids and mother are mad at her. Eloisa needs to decide to live her life for herself. I sure wouldn’t be inclined to take an husband back that was unfaithful like that. And Samual trying to win over Renata while condemning his mother is a bit hypocritical.
I did not realize Octavio and Carmela were even planning something together, and to find out it was the press conference that hurt Eloisa the most. I hope Eloisa finds out. I don’t understand why her mother would want anything to do with the man that treated her daughter like that. And expecting her to take him back. We really haven’t seen anything that would make us think he wants to go back with her. Although I think in the end he will want his old life back-after pretty much destroying it.
Liz
Liz, I was just as surprised about the credit card and bank account. It seems like Pablo was dragging his feet getting his divorce from Julieta so maybe he was not smart enough not to separate his finances when that happened. I don’t get it.
Liz, thank you so very much.
"Julieta seemed short with Matilde. I wonder if she’ll be hard on her because her mother is dating Pablo" sounds exactly right. Wait until she learns her friend Karen also covets Pablo! :)
Your observations are so sharp and clever including "Octavio cheated on Eloisa for two years, behind her back, sneaking around, but her kids and mother are mad at her". Such ungrateful brats, Samuel surely being the dagger in Eloisa's heart. I would imagine growing up with Carmela was quite an education for Eloisa; I am sure little would surprise her about her shrewd eyed and soul less mother.
Carmela must have something "on" Octavio otherwise he wouldn't be bending to her will so easily.
Diana
I can't believe we have to wait til Wednesday to see what happens next.
I'm already going through withdrawal. :(
Diana
I think these episodes are improving. I enjoyed watching Carolina and Padre interacting. You can see how well their personalities still mesh. Catalina is enjoying her suitor. It’s still a stretch to believe Cristina and Carlos, but they seem more into each other. I can’t decide if a promise ring is a cop-out or appropriate since they really don’t know each other that well. Manuel is about to get in trouble over Lorena. Will Carolina see any hypocrisy in her predictable jealousy of Lorena when there are subtle sparks when she’s with Padre? Probably not! When will Ramiro spill the beans?
I’ll ask again: any chance Romina is Ramiro’s? I don’t recall the timeline of all this.
Babachita
Babachita, I’m enjoying this more too! Lots of drama. I really don’t think Romina is Ramiro’s child. There’s no timeline but it seems like she had to work hard to get where she is. Plus, surely Manuel would have been suspicious, although he is kind of naive. If he had played it cool when Tamara ran into Lorena and him I doubt she would have suspected anything.
Carolina is much more comfortable sharing all this stuff with Salvador instead of Manuel. She forbids Ramiro to date Omar with the excuse she doesn’t think he’s right for her daughter. If she told them his dad was a sex trafficker she might have everyone on her side! I still can’t figure out if Omar likes her or is using her to help his dad.
I’m also amazed at Leo’s obvious attempts to break up their marriage and Manuel and Carolina believe everything he tells them. And conveniently, Lorena is always around to keep him company. I also wonder why Tony seems against Christina dating Carlos. The promise ring looked like a wedding band.
Liz
¿Quién es Eloísa Obregón? (who is Eloísa Obregón?)
Rosa ran five minutes over. I’m unsure if anything was cut and/or condensed but the scenes and dialogue unfolded at breakneck speed that was far above my understanding.
We open with a repeat of Carmela and Octavio discussing Eloisa and whatever mischief they were up to.
There is a series of brief scenes where Eloisa is being hounded by the paparazzi. They are literally in her face, cameras flashing as she walks with Matilde, leaves the house, meeting Renata and Leticia and returning home. She is a wide-eyed doe in the crosshairs as she is relentlessly pursued.
Eloisa’s not so sweet children discuss her as she listens around the corner, looking upset.
Pablo and Karen have a bite to eat and a discussion that was beyond me.
“Senor Cases” Carmela says, gritting her teeth as she greets Pablo. Eloisa was the main topic of course. Please fill in if you can.
A brief meeting with Bernardo, Octavio, Gabriela and Nicolas ensues. Something about no declarations. Gabriela stalks off and Octavio chases her, calling her “amour”. Nicolas is on the phone as he watches them arguing.
Renata and Eloisa talk; an agitated Renata calls Pablo.
Gabriela has her head in her hand when Antonia comes into her office. Are you all right she queries? Is it my father she asks, knowing full well it is. Antonia tells her she is keeping the baby and Gabriela hugs her and then apologizes. Antonia thanks her.
Gabriela arrived home to find Octavio waiting for her.
Bernardo and Leticia prepare dinner and share the tea. Gabriela and Eloisa are on the discussion menu.
Carmela ends up at Pablo’s. She pulls out a check with many zeroes, a bribe that he leave Eloisa forever. Thank you he says, but no thanks. When he leaves the room she puts the check on a shelf.
Octavio and Gabriela have an evening with Tomas and Antonia. Octavio starts to grill Tomas and is thankfully interrupted by a phone call.
Diana
Julieta is at Pablo’s when she finds the check! She picks it up, eyes wide as saucers. What is it for she asks. I think he tells her and then asks her for the check back. An impactada Julieta seems transfixed. She then picks up something from his desk and shreds it. To our great consternation, she then pockets the check! I have a shiver in my spine as I rue this sure to be disastrous move.
Antonia asks where her father is just as Octavio returns with his computer. They, Tomas and Gabriela watch Eloisa being interviewed. Pablo is watching at his home. Reflecting the title of the episode, I gather this is a chance for Eloisa to answer the question as to exactly who she is. The interview shows snippets of Eloisa’s daily life. We see her hanging paintings as she references her love for the arts. At their own “watch party”, Eloisa is toasted by Leticia and Renata; Samuel bidding them good night. Back to the interview, Eloisa talks about her three marvelous children as we finally see a genuine smile from Antonia. The interviewer asks about Octavio as Gabriela storms out of the room. Eloisa brings up Pablo and then Octavio gets up to go after Gabriela. She refers to her ex-husband…
Octavio senses something is amiss with Antonia and after finding out she has barricaded herself in the bathroom (not alone though), he knocks on the door. After entering, he asks Antonia what is wrong. I’m pregnant she tells him flatly. As his eyes widen, Tomas, standing behind Antonia, puts his hands supportively on her shoulders. Octavio stares darkly and rushes out of the room. He starts ranting asking if Eloisa knows. Rattled in the face of her father’s tirade, Tomas steers her toward the door. Calm down Gabriela tells Octavio, but it’s far too late. Octavio wants to be alone and leaves.
Pablo shows up at Eloisa’s and she warmly greets him.
Antonia and Tomas talk; she mentions being pregnant and in a professional crisis.
Eloisa shows Pablo her artwork, he responds “wow”. Pablo tells her he loves her and more passionate kisses ensue. She helps him remove his shirt as their ardor overcomes them. They end up on the floor of her studio.
Unfortunately, Octavio does not skulk back to his hotel room. He enters Eloisa’s house and calls out for her. Eloisa and Pablo are blissfully unaware of his presence and completely enrapture with each other. Octavio then calls out for Matilde. Senses on high alert, Octavio pulls out a set of keys from the drawer. He walks in on them as they struggle to pull themselves together. This is MY house he screams. You are divorced (getting divorced) Pablo strikes back with. Pablo dresses as quickly as possible and leaves. Octavio continues his tirade (most of it bleeped out) as Eloisa stares. He calls her immoral and far worse. She tells him all of this is his fault and defends herself saying that the children aren’t here. Octavio then unleashes his fatal blow: Antonia is pregnant he tells her. His dagger has hit its mark: Eloisa looks stunned and, in disbelief, puts her hands on her face.
I wish I had been able to understand more! Even if I had a DVR that allowed me to rewatch the various scenes, I do not think it would have helped. Kindly fill in where you can; your comments and insights are greatly appreciated!
Diana
Thank you, Diana, for covering this fast and furious episode. All I could say was YIKES!
Pablo tells Karen he wants to find out who the "journalist"was at the press conference and how he knew that he had quit less than 2 hours after he had, Karen feels he might be thinking she betrayed him. He says he knows she never would.
Pablo goes to see Carmel and says he underestimated her threat if he didn't leave Eloísa alone. She managed to get him fired from the magazine. She says all she did was present the conflict of interest. The directors at the magazine made their own decision with that info. He asks who leaked the info about him at the press conference. She wouldn't know. Why would she want to hurt her own daughter? He says he would not judge her or any parent for doing what might be morally ambiguous to protect their family. He asks who the journalist was. He thinks she knows. She tells him it is time to leave.
Octavio, Gabriela, Enrique Villalobos and Nico V are at a meeting. Enrique comments that although it was uncomfortable, the journalist's question turned out to be quite the distraction. Nico cannot believe it wasn't part of a plan. Enrique tells Octavio to make no more declarations. He adds that he thinks that he and Eloísa will get back together. They have been married for 25 years. Gabriela cannot take that comment and leaves.
Eloísa is tired of everyone defining her. She wants to define who she is for the public. She asks Renata to help her. Renata calls Pablo who sets up an interview with the same podcaster Sara who interviewed him.
Octavio tells Gabriela that he was all alone in his hotel room when he realized he could be there with her. She makes it clear she does not want to be his second choice. He reminds her that he left Eloísa for her. She is his ONLY choice. She smiles. They decide to celebrate with a special supper. She invites Antonia.
Carmela pays Pablo a visit. She has brought him a check for one million pesos ($54,199.00 USD) to be used however he would like. He asks what the check is for. She says to stop investigating the press conference. Nobody including Eloísa is to know that they had this conversation. She denies this is extortion or blackmail, it is only compensation for him losing his job. He thanks her but says he is not a part of her foundation. He hands the check back to her. She basically repeats what he told her that she would not judge him or any parent for doing what might be morally ambiguous to protect their family. She tells him to consider the offer in terms of caring for his son. She leaves but not before putting the check on a shelf by the door.
Octavio tells Tomás that he will not be hiring him. He and Antonia have a lot of life to live. They probably will break up and then he would have to fire him so as not to make Antonia uncomfortable.Tomás doesn't think they will be breaking up anytime soon. Octavio would rather avoid problems.
Julieta is telling Pablo how things are not going well with Jeffrey. He doesn't care about her ballet school. He is now investing in spas with botox. The problem is that he needed money so she got a loan for one million pesos in her name and now has no money to pay it off. She sees the check and wanted to know all about it. He says that Carmela got him fired although he really quit and now she came with a check out of pity. Julieta thinks she owes him. He goes to get some tea. While he is in the kitchen she supposedly puts the check back but pockets it instead and shreds the paper it was enclosed in.
Gabriela is exasperated as Octavio is mesmerized by Eloísa's podcast: Eloísa Obregón in the Nude. Eloísa talks about always being defined by being in relationship to somebody else like her children's mother, etc. but when she is in her studio and painting she is nobody's anything. She is only who she is : Eloísa Obregón.
Antonia tells her father that she is 4 1/2 months pregnant. She didn't tell her mother or anyone because a medical condition she has was complicating her pregnancy. Octavio tells her that she is f****** up her life. She asks if she is f****** up her life or his? When Tomás tries to intervene, he tells him to f*** off and blames him for ruining Antonia's life. Tomás does tell Octavio they are planning on getting married.
Gabriela chews Octavio out for his treatment of Antonia. He can only ask how could Antonia be 23 and not know how to prevent a pregnancy?
Octavio's reaction has raised doubts about what she is doing in Antonia's mind. Tomás is not happy that her father might have changed her mind. She accuses Tomás of preferring that things be that way anyway. Tomás wants them to do what they want to do, not what her father wants them to do. She thinks that maybe her father is right and a baby will f*** things up for them. It then comes up that her father wouldn't hire him but maybe he doesn't want to spend his life defending guys like Villalobos anyway. Maybe he would like to do something he feels passionate about. What to do with her being pregnant and he in a professional crisis??? He says they will be fine but doesn't know how.
Most of Octavio's tirade was the usage of the "f word" used in all sort of creative combinations. Eloísa stands up for herself quite well. Octavio cannot believe that she is with that dirty SOB since that *sshole is only with her for her money. She reminds him that the money Pablo borrowed from her was back in his account. He supposedly is only trying to protect her. She talks about giving herself a chance to be a woman and he informs her that while she was doing that, her daughter ended up pregnant somehow blaming her for her daughter's predicament.
Jarifa, thank you for your masterful translation of all of the action along with the very relevant, startling (and very confusing) dialogue. While I only gleaned words here and there, your sensational summary cleared up much I could not interpret on my own.
I misunderstood, thinking Carmela was paying Pablo to leave Eloisa, not that "it is only compensation for him losing his job" and/or "...caring for his son..." How benevolent.
"Enrique tells Octavio to make no more declarations. He adds that he thinks that he and Eloísa will get back together. They have been married for 25 years" explains Gabriela's hurt expression and quick exit.
So Julieta's relationship with Jeffrey is going down the tubes. How convenient that she obtained a loan for one million pesos without the means to pay it back when a check for the exact same amount literally falls in her lap.
Octavio is beyond cruel. The way he treated Antonia, purposely trying to come betweeen her and Tomas was despicable. He was chomping at the bit to reveal Antonia's pregnancy, rubbing it in Eloisa's face and then blaming her was pure poison.
Thank you for your very generous time and talent Jarifa. I'm very grateful.
Diana
Diana and Jarifa – You are superstars!! I’m so grateful.
Diane – I liked “wide-eyed doe.” That’s just what she looked like, poor startled thing.
What needed saying on the podcast is that Octavio was having a 2-year affair with Gabriela that broke up the marriage. We didn’t hear her say that, but we didn’t hear the whole interview. What we did hear was mostly about her identity as an artist and a mother.
This is so brilliantly written that I got to thinking that it couldn’t be from Televisa. I googled, and yes it is. If they can pull in excellent writers for this, why not for their other productions? Anyway, that makes it a lot harder to understand for recapping. It’s not like the usual TN where they spend a lot of time on variations of te amo (con todo mi ser/corazon) etc. Here the dialog just flies by and it’s packed with meaning. And new vocabulary!
A long time ago when I was recapping my Spanish was very iffy. There is always a call for recappers so I signed up. Back then there were teams, and everybody did just one night. How I agonized over my episode! I didn’t have a DVR, I had videotape and I kept backing it up and replaying bits over and over and frantically looking up words. It’s a miracle the tape machine survived. Fortunately I have a DVR now.
It would take me 2-3 hours to write up my recap, and often I’d have to throw myself on the mercy of the patio to fill in or straighten out bits. Of course they cheerfully did. So I admire the two of you doing this every night! Amazing.
Maggie, I really appreciate your kind words.
Thank you for so poignantly explaining that Eloisa's podcast consisted "...mostly about her identity as an artist and a mother". So well phrased.
You made an insightful point about the writing; it would be lovely if such excellence would become the norm rather than the exception.
Maggie, my recollection is that your recaps were unfailingly amazing. I completely understand and can relate to "agonizing over" every episode though. My recaps are never what I want or hope them to be but I have to console myself with simply trying to do my best.
I am so happy with our patio. Jarifa's incredible translations and insights lighten, brighten and make sense of it all. Along with the wise and wonderful contributions from you, Liz and Susan, it is proof positive that a small but generous group makes this an awesome, shared experience. Thank you all.

Okay, this series has 16 episodes. We have 4 episodes to go in only 3 days because a new novela starts on Tuesday. No double episodes listed. Guess they are getting the scissors out as I write. : 0
Thanks so much, Diana and Jarifa. A great recap of an episode that could leave your head spinning! I can’t believe Octavio is so self righteous. Cursing at Eloisa and calling her names. Like he hasn’t been living his lie for two years. And now it’s Eloisa’s fault that Antonia was pregnant. I hope Antonio de ides to side with her mother!
And speaking of mothers, poor Eloisa, what a horrible mother she has. I’m kind of glad Julieta is going to cash that check. But it’s sure to backfire on Pablo. And if Joseph needed money he should have borrowed it.
I can’t believe there’s only three more episodes. They will have to be fast and furious.
Maggie, when I recapped Juana, the Virgin I spent at least three hours an episode. I had part time jobs where I worked less! It’s a lot of work.
Liz
Jarifa, thank you.
I would swear that previous programming indicated all remaining episodes would air. Leave it to Uni to mess everything up at the last minute. This is very upsetting particularly because they did not air Mirada on Tuesday, opting instead to air Hijos.
This is going to make the remaining three episodes even more difficult to follow, especially after the slicing and dicing.
Agitated Diana :(
Hi Liz; thank you very much.
Octavio is horrid. "Like he hasn’t been living his lie for two years" is exactly right. Offense is his best (and only) tactic. Blech.
Eloisa is so good and kind, she is (miraculously) nothing like her mother. I can't believe Julieta will actually cash the check but she is definitely considering it.
I check for spelling and grammar errors but usually don't change the content unless I get a light bulb moment which is seldom :) which is the only reason I'm able to post relatively quickly.
Diana
Diana, you are right it should have turned out okay but then they stuck in that soccer game this week.
