Cihan’s stock just fell big time for me. He broke off with his girlfriend without a kind word or a sympathetic look. She is devastated.

And why doesn’t he just tell Ayla that she can’t go back to Canada because the baddies will seek her and her son out and get them? Why doesn’t he tell her that it was Boran’s wish for him to marry her?

Instead he’s a stoic guy I guess we’re supposed to admire because he’s actually Deep and has Big Feelings. Just spit it out and don’t make these women agonize!

Some highlights: After another proposal, Alya wonders how Cihan could consider this. Was he raised without love?

Kaya tells Sad about Alya being out. Sad tells Kaya that, if Nare comes to the konak, Sahin can never set foot there again. Both Sahin and Pakize overhear. Pakize calls Nare. Nare calls Alya, asking her to come to the hospital. Cihan brings Alya, and Nare tells him he should be ashamed of accusing Alya of the shooting. Also, she’s going to her place with Alya.

Deniz has locked himself in his room and says Cihan lied to him about bringing his mother. Then we see Deniz running out the gate of the konak into his mother’s arms. Sad is furious. She takes a minute to snarl at her daughter.

There’s a big confrontation between Sad and Cihan. This is an excellent scene, but these are highlights.

Nadim Baybars and one Safer talk about some “business”. Sorry, I’m struggling with the business aspect. But something is said about migrants with goods crossing Albora land. But Nadim isn’t involved, although Demir wants him to be.

At her home, Nare tells Alya about learning that, if she went to the konak, Sahin would never be able to.

Ecmel has a phone in prison and seems to be involved in the migrant thing.

Halis Koroglu meets with Cihan. What I gathered was that the shooting up of the truck has turned off some customers. Halis sort of says that Sahin may be involved. But Cihan doesn't believe it.

Cihan goes to see Mine. She keeps the chain on the door. He wants to come in to explain, but she insists that he say he loves her in order to enter. Finally, he tells her he plans to marry Alya.

Cihan takes Alya to a restaurant to explain things. He does tell her he doesn’t want to marry any more than she does. But I guess we’ll wait for the explanation until tonight.

Novelera - thank you so much for this! I’m still trying to get everyone’s names straight and need all the help I can get.

Cihan is still bugging me. He doesn’t explain anything to Ayla and just orders her about and insists she obey. Now he’s had an outburst of violence. He’s supposed to be the hero but I’m thinking this is a poor model of male behavior.

And there’s Ayla patching his hand up after his outburst because yeah, that’s what women are supposed to do. Harrumph.

Thanks for the Thursday highlights, novelera. They are making small snips here and there but nothing of great importance.

Maggie, I don’t know if you’ve ever watched this type of dizi before. By Mardin standards, I’d say Cihan is a hero. We’ve also seen another side to him. He’s great with little Deniz. Boran’s video hurt him a lot. Maybe he thinks it would devastate Alya. Remember Alya is a doctor. It’s her calling to help. She’d help an enemy as well.

Cihan said he’s been responsible for the family’s wellbeing since Boran left. You can see the weight of that responsibility and his conflict of emotions.

Mine must have known what she was getting, or wasn't getting, with Cihan.

This is the first time I’m seeing Ozan Akbaba (Cihan). I think he’s good so far. Some of you might remember the actor playing Alya, Sinem Ünsal. She played Sevgi the schoolteacher in Todo Por mi Hija. I think Sinem and Ozan have good chemistry.

#9 part 1

Alya proclaims, I am Boran’s wife. Cihan answers, Boran is no longer alive. Protecting you and my nephew as your husband would be an honor for me. That’s why I proposed it. Hear me out. She gets up from the table. Don’t talk nonsense, I won’t listen to another word. He asks her to sit down or else he will take Deniz back.

She sits. Keep your word, Cihan tells her, didn’t you say you’d listen to all I had to say? No one will know. We don’t have to behave like a married couple. I promise. What are you talking about, she fires back, do you realize what you’re proposing? This is ridiculous. That mansion is hell for me. Then what? My son will join your Mafia, while I play the role of your wife? What am I to you? A puppet?

Cihan tries to remain calm. Don’t drive me crazy or I’ll lock you away. You won’t see the light of day. You’re not listening to me. She gets up and a waiter crashes into her. He apologizes to her and Cihan. She walks out. Cihan calls Muzzafer, Alya walked out. Stop her.

Zerrin calls Kaya. Talk about the unexpected, he says, you couldn’t resist. The rules don’t matter. Love can overcome all, my love. No obstacle is too great. We can never be apart. She tries to get him to stop talking. He continues, when we’re in love we flow like the water of a river and feel as light as the wind.

Kaya, listen to me, she says. He tells her he’s on his way there. Come down and meet me. Don’t come, she responds. I’m calling about my brother. We haven’t heard from him all day. He doesn't answer his phone. Fine, Kaya says, I’ll find him and take him home.

Cihan’s men find very drunk Sahin stumbling out of the restaurant. He babbles about Nare. Kadir grabs him. Sahin’s phone rings and he drops it. The other guys take Sahin to the car and Kadir answers the phone. It’s Kaya. Kadir says they found Sahin. He’s a drunken disaster.

Kaya brings Sahin home. He has to be dragged in. He shouts about going to Nare. Zerrin comes out of her room. Sahin asks, why don’t you want Nare and me to be happy? Where’s my phone?

Fidan comes out. Sahin is still shouting about Nare. Kaya tells the guys to hurry and get Sahin to his room. [Turkish] This is about Nare. May Allah punish her, Fidan says. Kaya asks her to watch her words. Fidan answers, she (Nare) got married, she’s pregnant and she still gives Sahin hope. Kaya wants an apology. You go and ask forgiveness from your DIL (Alya), she replies. This is your habit. You’ll let her rot in prison like your uncle! That’s enough, Kaya shouts. Zerrin holds him back.

Fidan pulls Zerrin away from Kaya. Don’t touch him again! Kaya pulls Zerrin away from Fidan and warns, if you lay another finger on her… Fidan interrupts—and what will you do? She pushes him, will you kill me? Is that what you’ll do? Zerrin steps between them and tells Kaya to leave. He goes.

Distraught Alya returns to Nare’s house. What happened? I’ll never forgive him, Alya cries, he’s lost his mind. I will not marry, Cihan. Ozkan listens in. Alya continues, when he returned Deniz to me, I thought he’d take pity. But now he’s asking me to marry him again and I can’t. But if I don’t, I’ll go to prison.

Ozkan immediately calls Bahadir. Cihan will drop the charges if Alya marries him. Bahadir is with Demir and passes the news along. Cihan wants Alya to be his wife. Demir is stunned at first, and then he laughs and clinks glasses with Bahadir.

Zerrin must face Fidan’s ire. What will I do with you two? I’m fighting a war on two fronts against you and your brother! When will you learn? Sadakat was here, I was here, and in our presence, you said you didn’t love Kaya! You wouldn’t see him anymore! Zerrin replies, I called him because of my brother. He found him and brought him home. Why did you attack him instead of thanking him?

You defend him, Fidan fires back, didn’t you see him attack me? Zerrin blames Fidan for provoking him. Fidan grabs her phone and says she’s calling Ecmel to tell him what’s going on. Zerrin tries to get the phone from her mom. She begs her mom not to call. She won’t contact Kaya anymore. She cries. Fidan orders her to forget Kaya.

Demir calls Alya. She hesitates to answer but takes the call. You answered, Demir says, you must be desperate. Things did not go well with Cihan? Did he hurt you? Alya asks, how do you know? I even know where you are right now, he replies, it’s not hard to find out. She asks what do you want? I want to support you, he says, I have your ticket to freedom.

Alya scoffs. I’d rather remain a prisoner than have you grant me freedom. My son is my only interest. That could change, Demir replies, you want me to protect your son, don’t you? Of course. I can tell you’re one of those amazing women who would do anything for the people she loves. Alya asks, what do you want in return? We need to talk, he answers. She thinks. Alya? Alya? You still there? Alya looks at her sleeping son. She asks, where? He tells her to wait for his call tomorrow morning.

Nadim calls Cihan. We must talk. It’s very important. Smugglers with illegal merch will attempt to cross the Syrian border into Albora territory. Cihan asks, where do they plan on crossing? Over the mountains.

Next morning, Ecmel gets a visitor. He’s told it’s his son. But it’s not, it’s Sadakat! Ecmel attacks a guard. I was told it was my son! Why did you lie?! He has to be restrained. He shouts at Sadakat, you’re going to get me killed in this prison. Later you’ll testify I incited an uprising. You are a snake. Snake! He shakes off the guards and asks them to take him back to his cell. He leaves, but Sadakat says, you will talk to me Ecmel, you will face me.

Alya thinks back on things that happened, with Cihan, Sadakat, Demir. Marriage to Cihan, Deniz, Demir’s ticket to freedom.

Alya’s phone goes off. Deniz is alone in the room and picks up the phone. It looks like a message from Demir. Alya returns to the room. She grabs the phone. Deniz runs to the bathroom. Alya reads: Bahadir will be waiting by the door.

Nare greets Alya. Alya apologizes for inconveniencing her. Nare wishes she could help Ayla more. Think only of your baby, Alya says, I’ll be fine. I’ll stay here and fight your entire family. Nare says let’s have breakfast, but Alya says she has to go out. She’s meeting with her lawyer. Nare says her family doesn’t like that lawyer. Alya replies, I know, that’s why I hired him. Kadir sees Alya leave with Bahadir.

Looks like the Jandarma has caught the smugglers based on the tip given to Cihan by Nadim. Cihan and Kaya are present. Erol arrives. I got here at midnight, Cihan says, it went down exactly as Nadim said. I notified the Jandarma. Erol asks, whose merch is this? Did they say anything? Nope. Erol asks if Ecmel is involved. Cihan doesn’t answer. We see Sahin talking to the Jandarma.

Cihan says to Erol, only Kaya and you are to know about what Nadim said. If Nadim is not behind it, Erol says, then who is? Why did he decide to be so nice to you? Why do you think, Cihan answers, he wants control of the smuggling operation. He’s trying to make a deal with us.

Kadir contacts Cihan and tells him Alya went with that rat Bahadir, supposedly to discuss her case. He’s following them.

Alya asks Bahadir if he works for Demir. He says no, he’s her legal defense. My job is to get you your freedom, that’s it. Alya notices they are being followed. Bahadir is not surprised. Don’t worry, they won’t find anything. Demir is waiting for us at my office, he says.

Nare is at the breakfast table with Deniz. She gives him some cheese made from the milk of their cows. She tells the boy they have sheep too. They make yogurt and cheese in their factory. Deniz asks for his mom. Where did she go? Nare says she’s at work. Deniz asks, who is Demir? Isn’t he the man who kidnapped me? What makes you asks, Nare replies. Deniz says he texted his mom. It said Bahadir was coming.

Nare rushes off and calls someone, not sure who. Unavailable. She calls Cihan. Unavailable. She calls Sadakat. I tried calling but Cihan and Kaya weren’t answering. Where are they? Why do you ask, Sadakat replies. It’s important, Nare says, where are they? Sada says they are busy at the border. What’s going on? Nare reluctantly says, Alya is about to meet with Demir. But she doesn’t know where. Sada says she’ll notify Cihan. She uses the walkie talkie to give the news to Cihan. He hops in his car without telling the others.

Kadir follows Bahadir to his office. He contacts Cihan.

Demir is at the office, just as Bahadir said. He welcomes Alya, ask her to have a seat. Something to drink? I came to talk, Alya replies coolly. Demir asks Bahadir to leave. Alya is alarmed. He tells her to relax, he won’t hurt her. She says she’s not scared and sits. She’s listening.

Demir takes his time and a sip of coffee. He tells Alya, you are such a beautiful, smart, and well-mannered girl. It is a great misfortune that you became the DIL of the Albora family. Is that what you think, Alya replies. Fortunately, I’m no longer a part of it. Demir answers, yet Cihan Albora wants to make you his wife, doesn’t he? Alya asks, how do you know? Who told you? Demir smiles, Alya… instead of asking that, focus on what you need to do. I’ll decide myself, Alya says, this is none of your business. I came because I want you to stay away from my son. What do you want in return?

Marry Cihan, Demir replies. Alya is stunned--what? She gets up to leave. Demir calls out, if you do it, I swear I won’t touch your son. You’ll be released and be with your son. What’s your purpose? What do you gain? I want you to destroy them from the inside, Demir replies, and be my ally. Alya is alarmed. Demir walks over to her. Alya, beautiful Alya… don’t you think the Alboras should pay for all they’ve done to you? Don’t you want revenge?

Alya shakes her head no and says I don’t care. All I want is to leave this place with my son. You will, Demir replies, and you’ll be stronger than ever when you leave with your son. Or maybe you’ll become powerful here. But first, you need to destroy the Alboras. I know you have the strength to destroy Cihan. She walks out without another word. Demir calls out, think about it. You’re smart. If not, you’ll rot in prison and your son’s life will always be in danger. Alya walks out and asks Bahadir to take her home.

#9 part 4

Bahadir’s car is blocked by Cihan. Bahadir gets out, what’s going on? Control yourself. Sure, Cihan replies and gives Bahadir the Ottoman slap. Cihan wants Alya’s phone. He holds it to her face so it opens. Kadir holds Bahadir.

Cihan asks Alya, how long have you been talking to Demir? She doesn’t answer. Tell me what you are doing with this idiot, he asks. She doesn’t answer. He gives her back the phone. Be honest with me, Cihan asks, what did he tell you? She pauses, then says, he told me to marry you. That way, I can work for him. He wants information so he can get revenge on you. I don’t think it’s such a bad idea. It’s interesting, what do you think? Cihan looks away from Alya then looks back. She asks, could you marry a woman like that?

Cihan is silent. Alya asks, aren’t you scared I’d work for Demir? Cihan answers, I know you’d never dare betray me. Demir comes outside and says, don’t be so sure, Cihan. Even a rabbit bites when cornered. Demir gets in a car and goes. Cihan asks Kadir to keep an eye on Alya. He smashes the car window on Demir. Sahin and Kaya arrive. Cihan pulls Demir out of the car. Guns are drawn. Cihan gives Demir a beatdown.

Cihan is eventually removed off Demir. Demir shouts, you don’t know who you’re messing with! You’ll pay! Demir is taken away by his guys. Alya gets in the car with Cihan. We see that Sadakat is watching from a distance in another car.

Cihan’s hand is bleeding and Alya wants to look. He pulls it away. She wants him to go to the hospital. He tells her to stop talking. He stops the car and tells her to get out. He takes out a first aid kit. Cihan asks, when did he approach you? She replies, he came the night I was detained. He asks, why didn’t you tell me? My pride got in the way, she says, I didn’t know what to do. You put me in there, not him. And then he called me and said he wanted to see me. Cihan wants to know why she accepted to meet. Alya answers, he said he’d leave my son alone. Don’t look at me like that. You pushed me into the arms of that man. I’d do anything for my son. I’d walk through the gates of hell.

Who told him about the marriage, Cihan asks, was it you? Don’t be ridiculous, she replies. She doesn’t know. He asks, do you think it’s that rat Ozkan. Did he overhear you? Alya doesn’t care if he did or didn’t. Why does it matter? She asks him to reconsider marriage. She threatens, I’ll do whatever Demir wants. I’d do that and more for my son. I’m desperate. Kill me if you want, I’ll accept that. But if you marry me, it will be your undoing.

You told me, Cihan replies. Alya wonders what he means. Cihan explains, you told me about Demir’s plan. You could have agreed to marry me. It was a big opportunity for revenge, but you told me. You rejected it. Tell me why. She’s silent. He answers his own question, it’s because you couldn’t take Demir’s immoral proposal. You knew the right thing was to tell me.

Cihan brings Alya back to Nare. He tells Muzaffer to watch out for her.

Nare asks what’s wrong with Cihan. Alya replies, what’s wrong with him? Don’t you see the state I’m in? How could you go see that man, Nare asks. Alya asks, how did Cihan find out? Who told him? Nare admits she did it. Deniz saw the message on your phone. I don’t regret telling. Don’t look at me like I betrayed you. I didn’t mess up. You did. What were you doing with that man?

Alya replies, I didn’t go for fun. I had no choice, why can’t you understand? Where else could I go? What door do I knock on to escape this hell? You’re the only person who can understand. Don’t turn your back on me. I’m thinking about my son. Nare answers, so Demir Baybars is going to help you save your son, is he? You believe that? Alya thinks so. Nare asks what Demir wanted in return. Alya tells her. Marry Cihan and inform on the family.
Deniz runs into the room and greets his mom.

There’s a knock at the door. It’s Muzaffer. Sadakat gave the order. We are to take the boy to the mansion. Muzaffer and others barge past Nare. They take the boy out of Alya’s arms and hold Alya and Nare back.

And we are out.

Thanks so much for another excellent recap, dondi. And you filled me in on what Cihan said about Nadim. I'd sort of been thinking he was kind of a decent guy, but I guess he has an ulterior motive. He IS aware of what an awful son he has.

The actor playing Kaya is doing a good job. He's young and impulsive, yet sometimes he seems wise beyond his years. And he's a really good tío to Deniz. It was funny how he went on and on with Zerrin, trying to dazzle her with his verbosity.

Fidan seems to be trying to give Sada (that's probably better than Sad) a run for her money as most devious and/or vicious older woman. For an area that seems to involve suppression of women, these two take no prisoners.'

What devious thing dos Sada want with Ecmel? I can't think of anything.

Gotta say I enjoyed Demir's beatdown.

I agree that I'm liking Cihan. He's not a blind male chauvinist. He seems to me to know very well that Alya is justified in wanting to take her son back to Canada. But he is also a prisoner of his culture. Alya is innocent to the cruel and devious things these feuding families do. But Cihan wants to protect Deniz and Alya as well. I just wish he'd shave. Never been a fan of what Mr. Google tells is the fashionable "scruffy" look.
