With all the holiday prep, I fell behind. Thank you Babachita and novelera for helping me catchup with great recaps. I’m also grateful for Caray and all my Caraymates. And I’m thankful that Univision returned to YouTube TV.

Alya asks, why is your mother so insistent on you giving her a grandson? I think it backs speculation that Boran is Ecmel’s son.

The password on the usb is “Meryem”. Didn’t Boran say the something was special about that password, something in Cihan’s heart?

Cut: when Kadir called Cihan he asked if Pakize was angry with him. Cihan said, yes, she’s very angry with you and won’t cook you eggplant anymore. That’s what she was doing when Kadir “kidnapped” her.

Nare went to Hasankeyf. It’s an ancient town on the Tigris. The construction of a dam ruined many of the ancient sites.

As we know, a religious wedding (nikah) is not a legal marriage in Türkiye, but it’s permissible in the eyes of Allah. So Cihan can make a baby with Zeynep. BTW, Cihan did not say a “minister” would show up to marry him. What’s the problem with saying “imam”?

I will have a Friday recap up sometime over the weekend.

Dondi, It really looks like Boran is Ecmel’s. That would explain Sadakat’s insistence on another heir. Does Ecmel know? Could Cihan know? Did Boran know? I keep wondering about his insistence that Cihan marry Alya. Was it to protect Deniz or…?

I keep thinking that Zeynep has a sweetheart. If he shows up, that would be a possible solution. She doesn’t seem interested in Cihan, so that’s why I wonder if she has someone she'd like to marry.

Interesting about Nare’s location. The pictures online of Hasankeyf are fascinating. On the Tigris! How sad the dam covered many ruins. Ahhh, progress can come at a cost.

We learn so much from this blog!

#26 part 1

Ecmel tells Kaya to say his final prayer before dying. He’s about to stab Kaya when—surprise—Ecmel’s henchman literally and figuratively stabs him in the back! The henchie whispers, Cihan Bey sends his regards. Ecmel falls and Kaya gains the upper hand on the inmate holding him.

Cihan and Alya arrive home, and as usual, Sadakat is lying in wait for them. Where’s Nare? Did she go back to her husband? No. Did she run away with Sahin? She didn’t run away, Cihan replies, she feels terrible and wants to be alone. Sada is ticked. You said you’d bring her. Where is she? Cihan won’t tell.

Sada turns her anger toward Alya, blaming her for filling Nare’s head with nonsense and helping her to escape. Sada points to Alya—she’s a manipulator…she wants revenge on me… wake up! Cihan says nothing and just nods along. He finally shakes his head in frustration and tells Alya, let’s go inside. Once inside, Cihan doesn’t want to hear anything from Alya and quickly goes to his room.

Mine is pacing and drinking. I guess she’s waiting for the fallout from the usb.

Nare gets a call from Sahin. She doesn’t answer. He tries again. This time she answers. Nare, are you okay? Yes. Where are you? Don’t ask, she replies. He tells her he went crazy when she disappeared. Where are you? I have to think about things, she says. There is nothing to think about, he responds, we can’t be apart, it doesn’t work. We have to be together. She gives in and tells him she’s in Hasankeyf. He tells her he’s on his way and they will leave together.

Fidan sees Sahin leave. She asks where he’s going but he doesn't answer.
Nare packs her bag and leaves the hotel. She looks hopeful and happy.

Cihan thanks Alya for helping with Nare. She thanks him for allowing Nare to stay where they found her. We’re even. She asks, if Nare wanted to run away with Sahin, what would you do? Would you stop them? Cihan snarks, of course, I’d stop them. I’m heartless. Alya wants a serious answer. He replies, I’ve never done anything to stop them from being together. Despite that, they’ve never been able to be together.

Alya wonders, is it because the families are stopping them? Cihan adds, and it’s because Nare married Ozkan. Alya laments that Nare had no choice, she was in such despair. Cihan opines, they could have fought…they should have fought. Alya asks another question. Have you ever been in love? He says no [is he telling the truth?] She tries again—you’ve never been in love with anybody?

Hmh, Cihan smiles, no, never. I can’t love, I’m heartless. I don’t know, Alya says, when you spoke about Nare’s situation… she ponders… forget it, it was a silly thought. And yes, she adds, you married me even though Boran is your brother. You are heartless. Good night. Alya retreats to her side. Cihan softly says, good night… to everyone except me.

Alya puts something in her bag and sees the usb. She takes out her laptop and opens the video. She is stunned to see Boran. She starts the video and stops it when he says, if you’re watching this, I’m dead. She composes herself and restarts it. She starts to cry when he mentions Deniz was born. And then she gets to the part—“protect them. And…marry Alya. If I am killed, please marry Alya.” She replays that part. She is devastated and starts sobbing loudly.

Cihan hears her cries and rushes into the room. He reaches to close the laptop. Alya wants to keep listening. “Marry Alya.” I can’t believe it, she cries, Boran would never say that. What did you do? Tell me. Did you know? Did you see the video? Is it a joke? How could you hide this from me?

#26 part 2

Alya pushes past Cihan and heads outside. He follows her. Sadakat is watching from above. Alya gets in a car and drives. Cihan follows her.

Sada enters Alya’s room and sees the open laptop and Boran’s video.

Nare waits for Sahin by the water. She recalls their convo. He’s on the road to Hasankeyf when he gets a call from Fidan—your father was stabbed. We are on our way to the hospital. Sahin is in a quandary. Go to Ecmel or go to Nare. Ugh… he chooses to go to the hospital. [he should have at least called Nare.]

Alya is driving to who knows where [maybe she's driving to Canada?] She’s crying and thinking about the video. Cihan tries to get her to stop. She’s not paying attention and drives through a construction site and right into a mound of dirt.

Cihan runs to her and helps her out of the car. She has a cut on her head. He wants to take her to a hospital. She refuses. He gets her in his car and starts scolding her. Where are you going like this? I’m going to the depths of hell, she shouts back. If there’s a better hell than this, he replies, you go first, then send me an invitation and I’ll join you. She notes his sarcasm. He says he’s just trying to make the situation bearable.

I’m just trying to understand, Cihan says, what can I do? Don’t do anything, just leave me alone, she replies. He asks if her head hurts. She whimpers, it hurts. You have no idea how much. My soul hurts. It’s suffocating. I want to leave and disappear and forget everything.

Alya continues, because of my son, my husband condemned me to marry you… and you to me. How could you agree? Cihan tells her it was Boran’s wish, and he couldn’t refuse. I did it to protect you, believe me. Alya thinks she can protect herself and Deniz. But I need you, he answers, so I can look after you and keep the promise I made to Boran.

Alya wonders why Boran did this. Maybe we didn’t really know each other, she says. Cihan notes this must have been difficult for Boran. His love for you was beyond compare. That’s not love, Alya replies.

Cihan explains, when you love someone, all you want is their wellbeing. That’s what Boran wanted. He spent his life trying to give you the best. When Cihan jr was born he started worrying. Plus, he knew that we would never see each other in that way. That’s why he asked me to take care of you.

Look, Cihan continues, in the past, I did everything I said I wouldn’t do to keep my family safe from harm. I committed so many vile acts that I still regret. I did them without exception. Don’t forgive me, but I forgive Boran. She can’t forgive Boran, it’s unforgiveable. She feels betrayed.

Alya asks, where did you get the video. Cihan says Izzet. Alya wants to know if Izzet saw the video. No, he replies, it had a password. She says she was able to open it without one. He surmises it was a copy. She asks how he knew the password. He tells her that he and Boran had a secret password. He asks her how she got the usb. I found it in my purse, she replies. Who would have put it there? Cihan says he has no idea and changes the subject to the cut on her head. Let’s go home.

They get home, and there’s Sada again. She tells Alya, so now you know Boran’s final wish. Alya asks, did you put the usb in my bag? Sada replies, I would have shown you myself if I wanted to. I hid the truth from you for Boran’s own good. He was right, I didn’t know what kind of person you are. Cihan tries to stop his mom from talking.

#26 part 3

Sada continues, do you understand now? Cihan married you to fulfill his brother's final wish. Despite not being able to stand you, he found himself forced to marry you. Leave Cihan and get divorced immediately and get out of his life. Cihan asks Alya to go inside. He tells Sada, I forced that woman to marry me. Even though she wants to divorce me, I don’t plan on leaving her. Stop wasting your time.

Alya goes to her sleeping son.

Cihan deletes the video. Looks like he realizes who gave Alya the video.

Demir arrives at the hospital and speaks with Fidan and Zerrin. He tells them not to worry, they will get the one who did this to Ecmel. Sahin arrives and he’s ticked to see Demir there. Fidan defends Demir’s right to be there. Demir says, you know your father’s supposed friend, the one he called brother, the scarred one? Cihan hired him. He stabbed your father in the back and whispered… Cihan sends his regards. Sahin grabs Demir by the collar.

A scuffle is averted when the ambulance with Ecmel arrives. As he’s being wheeled out, Ecmel tells Sahin that Cihan tried to have him killed. Sahin is floored.

Nare tries calling Sahin. No answer. It’s almost midnight. She walks off.

Alya returns to her room and sees the usb is gone. Cihan tells her he took it and erased the video. He says she looks exhausted. He knew this would happen and that’s why he withheld the truth from her. She starts whining again. Tell me how do you do it? How can you be so calm? He asks, is that what it looks like?

I don’t know what to think about you anymore, Alya replies, should I feel bad for you or hate you? Should I yell or get angry? I don’t know. You live a life that isn’t yours, as if it were. How do you do it? Cihan just looks at her. She asks, what is it that’s truly yours? What keeps you on your feet? What’s your reason for being?

Cihan just looks very tired and sad. Alya says she asks herself the same thing. Why do I live a life by your side that isn’t mine and keep going as if nothing happened? And then I found out my husband did this to me. Now I understand why you insisted on getting married. It’s crazy. It’s ridiculous. His wish makes no sense. We can’t fulfill his final wish. The best thing to do is to end this.

End what, Cihan asks. The marriage, Alya replies, please Cihan. I can’t continue after Boran has humiliated me like this. Please understand. We have to divorce and move on with our lives. I’m going to take my son. Let us be free. He just gives her a cold stare and gets his coat and leaves.

Cihan calls Mine. She looks scared. She takes a breath and picks up the phone. She holds it close and doesn’t answer. I think this is Cihan’s confirmation that Mine planted the usb.

Erol calls Cihan and tells him Ecmel attacked Kaya, but Fashalı stopped him. They took Ecmel to Yonca Hospital. Demir is with him, and he probably planned everything. Kaya and Kadir are okay. The DA will take their statements. Cihan says he’s on his way.

Sada overhears and asks if Kaya is okay. She asks, what about Ecmel? He’s hurt. Sada is angry. Why didn’t your man kill him? Because I didn’t want him to, that’s why, Cihan replies. Sada answers, you should have taken his life.

And we are out.

Dondi- you hit it out of the park again!

The reason Boran wanted Cihan to marry Alya was to protect Deniz from the same people who killed him, right? And to protect Alya too?

That’s what I’ve been thinking all along, but I want to be sure.

I have a lot of thoughts but I think I’ll put them in a Monday comment.

Thanks so much, dondi. I really enjoy your writing style! And, yes, "as usual Sadakat is lying in wait". I know it's a dizi/TN trope that the annoying person always pounces no matter the time of day or night, but it drives me nuts the way she never misses an opportunity to try to impose her will.

Did we see it and I missed it? I'm wondering about the explicit reason Nare married Ozkan. It would surely have been simpler to remain single when she was forbidden to marry Sahin.

Speaking of Sahin, I hope he figures out that stabbing Ecmel in the upper back was to stop him killing Kaya and that he doesn't now think Cihan wanted Ecmel dead.

Yes, indeed, I was yelling at Sahin to please, please call Nare. Her waiting by the lake will turn her against him, I think.

When will they tell us about Alya's presumably Turkish parents? They both died, and Alya doesn't seem to want to talk about them.

Also, Alya was apparently not brought up in this culture and can't understand a marriage only for protection. I hope she understands that Cihan was keeping that video from her to preserve what she felt for Boran.

I kind of thought the relationship between Demir and Ecmel was a secret since Demir's uncle (I think) was the one who killed Ecmel's brother and Cihan's father.

I hope what Mine did means the end of his "staying over". What she did was unforgiveable. Even if what was on the usb was not so explosive, Cihan doesn't seem like the kind of guy to forgive her snooping.
