I am answering Babachita's question from Page 1. Yes, I watched Hercai. I enjoyed it very much. I didn't find it as difficult to understand the characters' motivations. Maybe it's because there seems to be, at least to me, less going on about the business dealings, whether honest or crooked.

Azize, the galán's grandmother, was the villain until a big change of heart in the latter stages of the dizi.

OT/TELEMUNDO:
Telemundo needs to get rid of all the Turkish nonsense altogether!

I would prefer seeing Brazilian & Argentinian Telenovelas.

I’m also commenting on items from the previous page. novelera, maybe my memory is faulty, but I thought Sada said that Boran was the oldest. And it made sense to me as Boran was the one who sought revenge on the Baybars. That would fall to the head of the family. Cihan took over after Boran left.

Alya is adopted, so Smith must be her adopted name. Perhaps her adoptive mother was Turkish. Maybe her birth family was, too. We have a lot to find out regarding her adoptive and birth family.

I’ve got a Thursday recap almost ready to go. I’ll post it soon.

#18 part 1

Sada is waiting in Alya’s new office. Sada asks to speak with the chief physician. A doctor asks her to leave and asks Mine to handle the situation. Sada isn’t budging and the doc calls for security. Nare calls Cihan who already is on his way with Kadir.

Security arrives but so does the Chief. Sada starts, listen… all of you. This is my DIL and I gave an order. As long as she’s working here, no woman in Midyat can come to this hospital to be treated. Make sure of that. Sada warns Alya—you keep working with that filthy Demir.

The Chief tells Mine she needs to be stricter and more careful in management. Mine reminds him that the Alboras are a very powerful family in the region. If the family doesn’t want Alya working here, it’s going to be a problem.

Demir hears this. Are you saying that we fire Alya? Mine says, no. I’m saying that dealing with these people might not be easy. Nothing in life is easy, Demir replies, success is measured by how hard the fight is.

Nare asks Sada, why won’t you let Alya work? Sada tells her that Demir set this up. Nare is surprised. Demir is watching them from a balcony. Cihan arrives and questions his mother. I’m doing what you couldn’t, she tells him, she (Alya) will not work here. Nare tells her bro what Sada did. Cihan spots Demir. Nare notes that Sada’s actions gave this opportunity to Demir.

Kadir gets a call. Sahin wants revenge on Hasan. Cihan gets in his car and Nare goes along. Ozkan arrives and wonders what’s happening. He thought Nare was there for a checkup. He follows them.

Sahin pursues Hasan through town. Both men are armed. Hasan stumbles, drops his gun, and Sahin picks it up. Hasan runs into a dead end. He’s trapped. Sahin raises his gun. Hasan pleads, don’t do this. Have mercy. Don’t ruin your future. You betrayed us, Sahin replies, you must pay. Hasan says he had no choice.

Cihan, Nare and Kadir catch up. Ozkan is watching in the background. Sahin warns them not to come closer. Cihan tries to talk him down. Nare runs in front of Sahin. His gun is right at her head. He pulls her to his side. I have to kill him, he says. Nare sinks to her knees and holds Sahin’s free hand. She begs and cries for him to stop. Our memories are all I have in life. I don’t want to remember you like this. That does the trick. Sahin lowers his gun and walks.

There was a song to accompany this scene.

Kaya grabs Zerrin as she enters school. He wants to talk. He stuffs her into his car. You’re not answering my calls, he says. Is that idiot still harassing you? Leave Sedat out of this, Zerrin replies. Kaya answers, Sedat? Sedat Nalhanoglu? Yes, he’s connected to Demir.

Should I be scared, Kaya fires back. I’m scared, she says, can’t you understand? You think that’s the problem? What we have is impossible, Kaya. Kaya says he will wait for her here tomorrow. They have important things to discuss. Zerrin gets out and we see that Sedat has been watching them.

#18 part 2

Alya is assigned her first patient. The woman recognizes Alya as the wife of Cihan Albora and doesn’t want to be treated by her. Alya walks away. The other doctors wonder how everyone found out so quickly. Alya retreats to her office. Uh oh, here comes Demir with a big bouquet. Mine sees him heading down the hall.

Demir knocks on Alya’s door. Alya gives permission to enter and then pushes the door back when she sees him. He just wants to congratulate her. He pushes his way in. He doesn’t want her to feel bad about what happened. It doesn't matter what the Albora’s do, he says, they’ll never get you to leave this hospital.

You only brought me here to upset the Alboras, Alya says. Demir admits it. I’m obsessed but I have my reasons. I want to drive them crazy. I want them to suffer as much as I have. I have to take every opportunity. He asks, but what do you want? If I own the hospital, why did you take the job? She says she had no choice. I want to practice my profession. I want to work, and I don’t care that you own the hospital. I don’t work for you, Demir. I work for my patients.

He calls her an exemplary doctor. She tells him to get out, she hates him and doesn’t want to see him anymore. He warns her not to play tough with him. She warns him to step back. He tells her she won’t find work at any other hospital.

You weren’t forced to marry me, Demir says, so take it out on Cihan. And I’m not the one who shot you in the back. And that’s not all. Cihan Albora, who supposedly hates my family, who thinks I killed his brother, partnered with my people in a smuggling operation. My father and your husband are joining forces. Alya thinks that’s a lie. Ask Cihan, Demir replies, and when he tells you, think about who you should hate more.

Demir places the flowers on Alya’s desk. Ah, one more thing, he says, they were caught. I’m sure you were the one who reported them to the Jandarma. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful partnership. Alya stuffs the flowers in the trash basket. Get out!

Nare explains to Ozkan, he (Sahin) was going to kill my uncle, and I had to stop him. You begged him because you love him, Ozkan replies. Nare looks away. He adds, you even knelt at his feet. It’s because of our past, she says, I’ve never kept anything from you. You knew we had been in love, but it ended. He thinks Nare still loves Sahin. Don’t lie, he says, you’ve never looked at me like that.

Nare replies, you’ve never loved me, Ozkan. This isn’t love and you know it. Then what is love, Ozkan asks. I don’t know, she says, it just happens. It’s the way he looks at you, smiles at you. His pure state, his courage, his sense of humor. That’s what you fall in love with.

Ozkan asks, is that why you fell in love with him? The man you speak about so poetically, betrayed you. She asks, so why did you marry me? Because I did love you, he answers, very much. You only loved what I had, she says, you loved the Albora power and influence. That’s what you wanted. She walks away.

Alya calls Nare. Nare doesn’t feel like talking. Alya wonders if Nare is turning her back because of Demir. Nare says she doesn’t know what’s right or wrong. Alya asks her, what’s wrong? Nare tells her about Sahin. Alya tells her to focus on the baby and herself. Don’t stress.

#18 part 3

Hasan comes to the Albora konak. Sada was so worried. Kaya asks if it’s true what he heard. Sada starts spewing. It is! That bastard tried to kill him! I warned you. You can’t trust him because he’ll never stop. Now do you realize? Why didn’t you take care of him Cihan? Kaya interjects, nobody’s touching Sahin. Cihan cautions mom, the bigger you make this, the more rebellious Sahin will become. Don’t say anything. Alya returns to the konak. Sada continues, you need to tear this problem out by the roots. If you don’t, then I will.

Kaya takes off. Cihan can’t stop him and sends Kadir to follow him.

Alya and Deniz work on a puzzle. He asks her if she will work like she did in Toronto. Cihan stands in the doorway and watches them for a moment, then knocks. Deniz invites him to help with the puzzle. Alya leaves to change her clothes. Cihan leans his head on Deniz’s shoulder and helps. It’s sweet.

Cihan enters the bedroom and Alya tells him that Sada turned all of Midyat against her. I also disagree with what Sahin did, she adds, but when you do these kinds of things, the truth is… Cihan stops her and says they’ll talk later. She asks, are you silencing me? Sahin kept quiet. Nare kept quiet. You think that’s all it takes? People have limits. Your mother provokes everyone. Pushes us to the edge, manipulates. She makes it so that when you are right, you’re wrong later.

All Cihan does is shake his head in frustration. Alya continues, people are only trying to defend themselves. If you try to seek justice, you become a monster without knowing how it happened. That’s how she raised you, it makes sense. Don’t you realize how you became a monster while growing up?

Cihan finally speaks. Please don’t talk like you know everything. Don’t upset me. You’re talking about things you don’t understand. When you’ve been through what I have, then you can call me whatever you want. It will never happen, she replies, I’ll never understand or approve of your lifestyle. Cihan admits, she’s (Sada) done things I don’t approve of, but that woman is my mother. Even if she weren’t, I’d be the same man. I learned to be cruel in the face of oppression, not for pleasure.

Alya scoffs. Cihan shakes his head in amusement. What’s so funny? He tells her he laughs so she doesn’t feel the weight of his anger. Be careful. If you’re going to work for that bastard, you’ll regret it. She asks, is it because he’s a Baybars? They are your enemies. The Baybars you accused of killing Boran. You accused me of working with them, but now you’re working with them?

Cihan asks, who told you? Answer my question, Alya replies, are you working with them? Don’t you distribute merch with them? Tell me it’s not true. He doesn’t answer and she knows why. So you are allowed to work with them but I’m not, she asks, why not? Cihan glares at her.

Kaya shows up at Sahin’s konak. He asks to speak with him. Guards won’t let him in. Kadir shows up and tries to get Kaya to leave. Kaya bangs on the door and shouts for Sahin. Sahin comes out, followed by Zerrin and Fidan. They tell him it’s too dangerous to open the door. Kaya enters. Sahin shouts for his family to go inside. They stay put. Kadir calls Cihan with the update. This won’t end well. Cihan leaves Alya. She wonders what’s happening this time.

#18 part 4

Kaya starts, my mother put your father in prison. I understand you want revenge. But what about us? What about me? I can’t live without Zerrin. And if you won’t stop until you have revenge… Kaya takes his gun out and throws it on the ground. Here I am, shoot me.

Zerrin calls out for Kaya. Wait, Sahin, please don’t do this. Kaya repeats, I can’t live without Zerrin. I don’t want a life without her. You understand me, don’t you? You know love, too. We’ve been through so much trouble together. End this. Shoot me. Get your revenge. Sahin tells him to take his gun and leave.

Fidan comes screaming down the stairs. No! He dies today! She goes for the gun, but a booted foot steps on it first. It’s Cihan. He picks up the gun and takes Kaya away.

Sada and Hasan talk. Nobody is more familiar with Ecmel’s talent for lying than I am. He moves like an octopus, wrapping his tentacles and suffocating you. I knew he’d be successful with Sahin eventually.

She asks Hasan to do two things. Sell Ecmel’s konak. The place is in my name. Azem bought it years ago and put it in my name. When assets were split, Ecmel got a lot of land and the konak. Before Ecmel could change the deed, Azem was shot and then Ecmel went to prison. The deed is still in my name. Sell it. Hasan warns Sada that things will get much worse. Sada says it can’t get any worse. What’s the second thing? It’s about the family we met in Diyarbakir. Dilaver and Neriman. Have them call me. I’ll show Alya what I’m capable of.

Dinnertime. Sada scolds Kaya. Kaya tells her she started all of this. She says that Zerrin has blinded him, and he can’t go back to that house. Cihan enters and wants a place set for Alya. Every member of the family should sit here and eat together. He reminds her of his tablecloth trick.

Cihan goes to get Alya and Deniz. They are on the swing. The kid talks him into pushing them. It looks like a nice family scene for about 2 seconds. Then they go inside for dinner. Firkiye is served (lamb and almond dish, a Mardin specialty). Dinner is tense. Deniz asks why everyone is so quiet.

Sada starts the conversation. She asks Deniz, did you know your mother started working? He knows. His mom is a doctor. Sada asks, doesn’t that make you sad? He asks why. Sada answers, because she will have less time for you. She will work all day and sometimes at night. Deniz replies, she worked in Toronto, too. But you had your father there, she says. Deniz says, says, yes and now I have all of you.

Sada seems satisfied with that answer. She shoots a look at Alya. Since your mother has entrusted you to us, I’m hoping that she won’t meddle in our time with you or your education. One of these days, I’ll take you to your uncle’s company. You will work there in the future. We will ride horses there and hunt birds. Deniz objects to the bird hunting—they have the right to live, too, grandma. Alya compliments Deniz. The boy says granny shouldn’t shoot them either.

Alya mentions the puzzle. She suggests Deniz take some firkiye to his room and finish it. Ummu takes Deniz. Alya turns to Sada, as you can see, my son isn’t like you, and he never will be.

Don’t be so sure, Sada answers. Alya says she trusts her son. The fact you are using him to sabotage my career is shameful. If you really cared about your son that much, you’d stay home and take care of him, Aliye hanım.

And we are out.

Awesome, Dondi! Many little bits that I didn’t catch. I have an appointment right now so I’ll comment in a bit. I have thoughts!

I know Cihan is supposed to be the good guy here. Yes, he’s trying to get a calm working situation with the Baybars, kind of a truce, but it’s not working out because of power-hungry Demir and Ecmel. I see that he’s trying to ameliorate some of the damage Sadakat is visiting on Alya.

But!

That doesn’t exonerate him. Last night he told Alya “Don’t make me mad.” She was ranting about all the bad stuff Sadakat is doing and he wanted her essentially to shut up. Then he said he was protecting her from the full force of his wrath. He acted as if listening to her complaints was a huge favor and she should be grateful.

Meantime, his mother has made Alya’s life a living hell. She wants to steal her child. She has shot Alya. She has cut up all her clothes and locked her out of her room. She has blocked her from all employment. She thwarts her at every turn and gloats about it and threatens more. Cihan has stood up to her some, which I guess we’re supposed to admire. “Es me madre” is an extremely poor excuse for not doing the right thing, for not facing the forces of evil, which is exactly what is mother is. I can’t admire him for being a dutiful son when she has escalated every conflict in the families to the point of warfare. A good man stands up for what’s right.

I also don’t like his treatment of Mine. She attempted suicide when he married Alya. The best thing for her would be to let her heal up and start a fresh life. But no, he shows up at her door like isn’t she lucky. Not one kind word, no professions of affection or love. We can’t say that the men in that culture don’t express loving thoughts because look at Sahin and Kaya.

Grrrr.

lejos

These episodes are full of intrigue. I worry what Sadakat is lining her brother up for. Who are these new people.

I still like Cihan. He seems like a calm person who has to keep the peace among several
fighting factions. He stays calm most of the time. He showed remarkable restraint when he found Alya did call the police. That would be a deal-breaker for most! He listened to her and seemed to understand her reasons. It seemed very disloyal to me, but he defended her to Kaya.

Sadakat is really out of control. I wonder if Cihan knows her backstory.

I think he and Alya will end up together, but can’t see any way for it to happen now!

What a wild and wooly place!

Dondi, thank you for the excellent recap. The actress playing Sadakat played the same type of controlling mother \_mother in law in the dizi with Engin. Does she ever play a good character ? Susan

Wow, you are SUCH a trouper, dondi. Your terrific recaps are a real gift to the Telemundo gang. I'm always trying to puzzle out if you've included a small detail from the full Turkish episode or if I missed something!

I think Alya felt a twinge of guilt about Demir somehow knowing that she'd informed on her husband. I guess Ferit Kaya (Demir) is a very good actor, because he's doing such a good job of being despicable.

Hmm, is Nare right about why Ozkan married her (Albora money and power)? A couple of times I've thought he might really love her

Will we ever see Sadakat lose? She was forced to dine with Alya, but managed to insult her during said dinner. I must say I'm getting very, very tired of all her victories. And those people that she sent Hasan to contact will probably do something awful because Sada hinted it would hurt Alya.

Yes, it's sweet is the perfect description of every scene with Cihan and Denis being close.

These scenes with Alya and Cihan talking past each other are tiresome. She's shrill, even though she's mostly right. And he's too stoic about the awful things his mother does.

Alya saying that Cihan is allowed (to do business with Nadim) while she's not allowed to do so with Demir had a logical response from Cihan. But he never seems to use logic when speaking with his wife. Nadim is not a bad guy; his son is.

Sheesh. Fidan is almost as awful as Sadakat. She'd surely have shot Kaya (and incidentally exposed herself as the target of a blood feud) had Cihan not arrived in time.

Thanks for clarifying that Sada owns the place where Ecmel's family lives and that it's because Azem died before it could change hands.

I loved Deniz reproving Sada about her shooting of birds.

Babachita, I also basically like Cihan. And it's true Alya seems incapable of understanding the pressures he's under.

#19 part 1

Alya leaves the dinner table. So does Cihan. They go to the bedroom. You wanted to work, he says. She asks, so I have to deal with the consequences? The man of few words, nods yes. She reminds him, you said I should work, didn’t you? Why do I bother talking to you? You said we wouldn’t get married and Deniz would continue his education. It was all a lie. I can’t trust anyone in this house. There’s no one to support me. No one to turn to. All I want is for my son not to be in your mafia. Is that asking too much? Cihan brushes past her into the adjacent room. Ha, he comes back briefly for a change of clothes.

Alya gets ready to sleep and Cihan gets ready to go out. In the Turkish, she asks where are you running off to? He answers, "tövbe tövbe” (repent, repent/shame on you) do you want to report it? He adds, don’t sleep on the chair, you’ll get sick.

We see that Cihan has run off to Mine. She asks if he sleeps in the same room as Alya. No, I sleep here, he replies. You didn’t last night, she says, where did you stay? He tells her to stop with the silly questions. She’s just curious. Cihan is ticked—that’s enough. We always have the same conversation. I’m tired of it. There’s nothing going on between Alya and me. Forget about that and focus on how Muzzafer can stay close to Alya at the hospital.

Mine says it’s not so easy, especially after what your mother did. The chief has complained, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I was fired. Are you really afraid Demir will do something to Alya? He is. She notes that Demir hired her. And that Sada doesn’t like Alya. Don’t be so happy, Cihan replies, she (Sada) doesn’t like you either.

Mine says, I heard your mother tell her, let’s see how long you work for that bastard Demir. What does she mean? Cihan tells her it’s not her concern. She continues, he treats her very well. Did you know? Cihan asks, what did he do? She tells him about the flowers. Don’t worry, he’s very friendly with her, don’t be afraid.

Cihan doesn’t look afraid, he looks angry, maybe jealous? Mine picks up on this. You’re not afraid of Demir hurting Alya. You’re afraid of her growing close to him, aren’t you? Enough! He barks and springs to his feet. I’m sorry, she replies, why are you so upset? I’m only sharing my thoughts because I don’t want it to affect you. You’re the one who taught me not to trust anyone. And don’t think I’m jealous of Alya. I saved that woman’s life. Cihan leaves.

Cihan returns home and his mother is sitting outside. He asks, what are you doing here? I could ask you the same question, she replies. He bids her goodnight. She calls after him, Cihan, I want a grandchild. Don’t start, he answers.

Sada continues, I know that there’s nothing between you and that woman and I don’t want there to be. Divorce her and leave her. Do you think she’ll leave, he asks. Whether or not, at least she won’t be your wife, Sada says. Cihan doesn’t want to talk about this ever again. She replies, find a good woman. You need to have children. He says goodnight and goes up to his room. Alya is sleeping on the chair. He stops and covers her.

#19 part 2

Next morning, Cihan is dressed and ready to go. Alya wakes up on the chair. He can’t believe she is still sleeping there instead of the bed. He asks her if Demir visited her at the hospital. She asks, are you spying on me? He wants an answer. She gives it. Yes, he came to tell me you’re working with his father. He asks, and the flowers? Wow, she replies, you heard that, too? I put them by the window… which reminds me, I have to water them. Cihan stares at her. Why are you looking at me like that? I’m being sarcastic. I threw them in the trash. He leaves.

Sada calls Hasan. Did you find a buyer? Finding someone won’t be hard, he replies, but let’s think about it. There’s no reason to pressure Ecmel like this. We should let everything calm down. Are you scared, she asks. It’s not that, he says, Sahin would grow even closer to Ecmel when it benefits us for him to be caught in the middle. She answers, he’s Ecmel’s son. All I did was bring the hate and jealousy to light that was already there.

Hasan says he knows Cihan will be furious when he finds out. Sada says she’ll handle that. Do you have the eviction notice? Yes. She directs, give it to my men to deliver it. I need them to pack their bags and leave asap. Once again Hasan asks her to think it over. That idiot tried to kill you, Sada replies, what more do you want? Don’t have any mercy. Did you speak with Dilaver and Neriman? Yes, they are on their way to the mansion.

At the hospital, Alya wants to speak with Mine. She asks, is there a way for the Albora men to follow me even in here? Mine says Muzzafer and his men are not allowed in. Alya asks if there could be someone she doesn’t recognize. Mine asks if something happened to make her feel uncomfortable. Someone gave information to Cihan, Alya replies, it had to be someone who saw it. Mine says she has no idea.

Alya calls to check on Nare. Are you feeling better? She says no. Alya asks her to come to the hospital for a checkup. If it’s a problem another doctor can see you. Nare says she’ll come.

Dilaver and Neriman arrive and Sada holds out her hand for them to kiss.

Cihan, Erol, and Kaya talk about the seized shipment. Erol says, after the military seized the truck, the police hung around the warehouse in the area. Today they raided Budakli. They didn’t find anything. We offered them coffee, and they left. They are still watching us. Kaya asks, so this is just getting started. Erol nods. Cihan says that Nadim’s shipment will have to wait.

Dilaver asks, what can we do for you, Sadakat Hanım? Is anything wrong? No, she replies, all you need to do is listen carefully.

Nare comes to the hospital. She sees that Alya has some patients. Yes, Alya says, there are some places even the Alboras can’t reach. Yes, places controlled by the Baybars, Nare answers pointedly. Nare, don’t, Alya responds. Albora, Baybars, this sect or that. It doesn’t matter to me. I’m a doctor. I’m sorry, I don’t have anyone to vent to. I try not to let it affect me, but I couldn’t help myself. Nare says, you can count on me. But be careful with Demir, okay?

Alya says this is your mother’s fault. If she didn’t mess with me, try to stop me, I’d be working in a Mardin hospital and have no connection to Demir. Nare asks, how are things with my brother? What do you think, Alya answers, we fight every day. He is unbearable. I miss my old life so much. I didn’t appreciate it enough. If I didn’t wake up each morning, I’d swear this is a nightmare. And then there’s the smuggling.

#19 part 3

Nare says, I understand that it’s not easy. What they are doing isn’t right. Cihan didn’t want to do it and for a long time he didn’t allow any kind of trafficking. But resisting isn’t so simple. Alya doesn’t understand.

Nare explains, there are many families that want to move their merch, and when Cihan resists, they attack him. They shoot at his trucks and block the sale of his merch. Remember when you first got here, a truck was shot at? The driver was murdered and if Cihan hadn’t intervened many more would have died.

Cihan is against the sale of drugs and weapons. But things would get complicated if he didn’t cooperate. You can’t imagine it. We are talking about a lot of families. He’s burdened with being responsible for everyone in Albora. The workers, the factories, and the fields. Do you understand? Put yourself in his place. Alya reflects on Nare’s words.

Sahin visits Ecmel, who asks, why didn’t you shoot him? No answer. You let a woman control you, Ecmel scolds. That’s enough, Sahin replies, say what you want about me but leave Nare out of it. Ecmel is ticked. You put that woman ahead of your own family? He shakes his head in disapproval. She’s just using you, son. You’re a puppet. If she loved you, would she have married another man? She’s having a child with that man. You need to accept it.

Alya does an ultrasound on Nare. Everything looks fine. Do you want to know the gender? Nare flashes back to years ago. She’s picnicking with Sahin. She tells him, if I ever have sons, I hope they are like you. Never, he replies, we will have a girl, and she will be like her mom. They hug. End flash. Nare says she prefers not to know. Alya asks if Nare really wants this baby. Is it because of Ozkan? Nare looks sad. She wishes the baby could have been Sahin’s.

A man shows up at Ecmel’s konak with the eviction notice. The family must vacate the konak in 30 days. The man tells Fidan that Sadakat put it up for sale. Fidan goes on the warpath.

Kaya stops Zerrin as she leaves school. Uh oh, Sedat drives up. Kaya is angry. He asks Zerrin, is that guy following you? What are you talking about, she replies, he’s a student here, too. It’s just a coincidence. He asks, do you believe that? Sedat walks by and glares at them. Zerrin gets a call—Sadakat put your konak up for sale. Fidan immediately left to find Sadakat. Zerrin tells Kaya. She needs to contact Sahin. Sedat watches them drive away.

Zerrin informs Sahin and says she’s with Kaya and they’re on their way to the Albora konak.

Kaya calls Cihan with the news. Come now!

Fidan shouts and calls for Sadakat to open the door. Ummu and Pakize wonder what’s going on. Sadakat smugly looks from the terrace. Sahin arrives and Fidan fills him in. She is ruining our lives and won’t even open her door! Sahin starts banging on the door and shouting. Men try to remove him. There’s a struggle. Fidan jumps in. Kaya and Zerrin arrive and join the fray. And here comes Alya and Nare. And finally, Cihan comes. He fires his gun into the air to stop them.

#19 part 4

Cihan asks, what’s going on? Sahin growls, her wickedness never stops! I don’t know you anymore! Fidan warns, you’ll pay, Cihan. She’s trying to sell our house. This is a new low! Fidan slaps Cihan with the notice. Your damn mother wants to sell it! He reads the notice. Sahin says he’ll set fire to the konak. Cihan replies, the konak is yours and it will not be sold.

Fidan wants to hear those words from Sadakat. Isn’t it enough to hear it from me, Cihan answers, the konak is yours and will always be yours. Fidan wants it in writing. Cihan understands and tells his family, let’s go inside. The door closes on Fidan and her family.

Sada’s children wait for her to come and explain. She enters the room and asks, what do you want to talk about? How could you do this, Kaya asks, how could you humiliate us like this? Have we sunk so low? Nare asks, do you have no conscience? Cihan asks Kaya to leave. He says he won’t go until his mother takes responsibility.

I don’t owe you any explanations, Sada replies, everyone gets what they deserve, Kaya. There’s a price for betrayal. Kaya calls her unfeeling and heartless. Cihan asks Nare to take Kaya and go wait for him downstairs.

Alya joins Nare and Kaya. Kaya is still steaming.

Cihan tells Sada he thinks this is enough. Say that to Ecmel, she replies, say it to Sahin. That fool sold me out and you did nothing to him. They think they are untouchable. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have threatened Hasan with a gun. Now he must pay. Cihan tries to reason, if you keep behaving like this, you will only drive Sahin crazier. You have to stop first.

Sada asks, are you afraid of him? Why would I be afraid of him, Cihan snaps back, I’m scared of what could happen to Nare and Kaya. I could barely separate them today. All he wanted was for you to come out and take responsibility. Sada answers, nobody is making me responsible for anything. They should do so first.

Cihan asks, where did this hate and bitterness come from? Is there something I don’t know? Sada pauses then says, Ecmel is the devil and Sahin is his puppet. I know they are conspiring with Demir. They need to be destroyed. They must leave Midyat. They can go to Mardin and establish themselves there. Fidan has houses in that town. They should live in one of them. I don’t want them close by. Never, Cihan says, they won’t leave because you won’t sell the konak. You will transfer the deed to Sahin. He rips up the eviction notice. Sada is determined to see them leave the konak.

Cihan comes downstairs. He says he will handle this. Nare knows her mother won’t change her mind. She had this planned out. If anyone had done that to us, Kaya says, I would have burned everything. Cihan tells him to relax and he’ll take care of this. Kaya demands to know how. I lost Sahin because of her (Sada). I can’t lose Zerrin, too. Cihan shouts, Enough! I will fix it! He starts back upstairs. If I said this, it means I’ll do it. Looks like Alya is beginning to notice how Cihan is burdened.

Later, Alya knocks on Cihan’s door. Can I come in? Yes, he says, you’re the only one who hasn’t yelled at me yet. Go on, get it out. It started with my mother, so let’s end it with you. She answers, I just need to use the bathroom, is that okay? He’s surprised… yes, of course.

#19 part 5

Next morning, Cihan finds Alya sleeping in the armchair. He covers her. He picks up a book she had been reading. [Sorry, I can’t make out the title.] He leaves the room.

Why does Alya feed Deniz? He’s old enough to eat by himself. Neyse… it’s only Sada, Cihan, Alya and Deniz at the breakfast table. Sada asks, where is Kaya? Cihan says, he only knows he left early. Sada watches Alya feed her son.

Zerrin is dropped off at school. Sedat is there in his car, likely he was waiting for her. He gets out and walks towards her, but he stops when Kaya appears and calls her. He heads back to his car.

Kaya says, I told you we needed to talk. Zerrin asks, what is there to talk about? You and me, he replies. You and me? Our families are at war, she says and walks away, right past Sedat’s car. Sedat gets out and follows her. Kaya spots this and follows him.

Alya asks Deniz if he’s full. She will take him to his room. She has to leave now, or she’ll be late for work. Sada speaks up. Don’t take my grandson. You’re going to work, he can stay. Alya looks at her son, come on, Deniz let’s go. Sada says, his name is not Deniz. It’s Cihan. Deniz pipes up, that’s right, mom. My name is Cihan. Why don’t you call me Cihan? Because I want to be like Cihan Amca when I grow up.

Alya is exasperated, Sada is pleased, and Cihan says nothing. Sada comments, what a brave boy. Deniz says, Amca, since I’m an Albora, too, you should take me to your office one day. I’m going to work there, too. Do you have guns there? Alya is shocked. What did we talk about? Deniz tells her to relax. I’m not going to shoot birds. I just want to practice on bottles. Alya replies, no Deniz you can’t. Sada reminds her—Cihan. His name is Cihan.

Erol arrives. Sada asks why he’s there so early. Cihan tells Deniz to go with his mother and they go. Cihan tells Sada, I want your signature so I can have power of attorney over Sahin’s konak. Alya hears this on her way out.
Sedat is closing in on Zerrin. She tries to hurry away. He chases her. Kaya spots him and runs after him.

The men stand around Sada at the table. Cihan holds a pen. He says, here’s the power of attorney. You will transfer it to me. He holds the pen out to her. Sign it. Get the pen out of my face, she replies. Cihan repeats, sign it. Over my dead body, she answers. Cihan gets in her face. Sign it already.

Ummu walks in and asks, where should I put your guest? Cihan is annoyed. Who is it that you’re interrupting us? Sada says, take them to the room near the patio. Don’t leave them standing there.

Sada gets up without signing. Cihan asks, who came? She replies, why don’t you see for yourself? Cihan tells Erol to wait there. Cihan follows his mother downstairs. Alya comes out of her room. Sada gleefully tells her, come welcome our guest.

Cihan and Alya enter the guest room after Sada. A young woman is there. Sada asks her to lift her head. This is Zeynep, the daughter of my friends Dilaver and Neriman. Cihan says nice to meet you. He asks why did she come? Sada replies, so you could have a baby with her.

And we are out.

Terrific recap, Dondi!

I’m trying to figure out why I get so worked up about this show. This is just my fourth dizi now. The first one I saw astonished me. After years of the Spanish-language ones I had gotten used to their genre and accepted its shortcomings. I realized the telenovelas are great campy fun and enjoyed them at that level. Then all of a sudden here was a show with outstanding writing and, most notably, complex, realistic characters. It was a revelation. The following two dizis I saw were equally excellent. A whole new world!

Then here comes this one and I’m aggravated that the characters aren’t realistic. I really need to take this for what it is.

But still it bugs me. Probably the most unrealistic character is Alya. A month before she came to Türkiye she was a happily married woman with a little son and also a great career, probably living in a big modern city. Now she’s lost her husband. It would be a time of heartbreak and grief, but we don’t see that. Now she’s in some dusty frontier outpost, held hostage by a woman who is trying to steal her son and also wants to kill her. Who hates her guts and delights in making her life miserable. Her life in Canada is completely gone. What about her stuff back there? Did they have a cat? She has nobody to talk to except Nare, but they don’t really talk much. You’d expect a person in this position would at some juncture just curl up in a fetal position and sob.

In the regular TNs the evil characters do evil things that never cease to shock me. I keep thinking I could never write for the TNs because I could never even imagine the things the writers think up. But boy, Sadakat leaves all those baddies in the dust. She’s trying to throw her relatives out of their house. She won’t sign the power of attorney and then, to top that all off, she presents Cihan with an unhappy young woman that he’s supposed to impregnate. All in the course of one episode!

I wonder what Sadakat does all day. She always seems to just sit bolt upright looking like a scowling statue of an angry goddess. Others have things they have to do. Does she just sit there? Sure enough, when Ciham comes back late from Mine’s place (he came for the warm bed and instead she wanted to actually have a conversion, so he left) there’s Sadakat just sitting outside on a bench, glaring. I guess she makes phone calls to do some string pulling, but that seems to be it.

She’s so still and rigid that it surprises me when she gets up and walks. I’d expect her to walk slowly and majestically or to even glide like she was on wheels, but no, she really steps out. Too funny!

Hi Maggie, what dizis did you watch? Were they all Istanbul based? This dizi is based on the Lebanese series "Al Hayaba".

Southeast Turkey is like another world to us. Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians and much more conservative. Of course, the writers take dramatic license and there are tropes, but stuff like this really happens there. Misogyny, arranged and/or forced marriages, honor killings, etc. This dizi continues to have high ratings in its second season in Türkiye.

Poor Alya hasn’t had much time to grieve. She’s been busy fighting for her son and fighting for her own life. Some of the others are fighting a losing battle against the predominant culture.

Thanks so much, dondi. Your weekend recaps are such a treat! This dizi almost seems tailor made for November. Daylight savings time is gone. It's been raining and/or completely overcast for a couple of days. Thus, Sada's diabolical moves fit right in.

Whatever Cihan feels for Mine, it doesn't seem like true love to me. He just doesn't tolerate any snark or jealous behavior on her part. I laughed at "Don't be so happy; she doesn't like you either".

Will Alya ever move to that inviting bed? Has she had Ummu change the sheets in case there's any Cihan sweat on the bed? We've seen her in pain from sleeping that way.

Speaking of Mine, I'm curious about whether or when Alya finds out about the two of them. I'm actually surprised Sada hasn't told her about it.

The friendship between Nare and Alya is good for both of them. In the last episode Nare filled Alya in on how difficult Cihan's position is. If he refuses to move contraband through his land, the family businesses suffer. By the way, did I miss something? Dondi, your recap mentioned a murdered driver that Nare brought up. We saw Necmi being saved by Cihan. Was there an earlier attempt in which someone lost their life?

Every time Kaya approaches Zerrin, Sedat seems to be looking on. Same old trope as in the Spanish language ones. Sedat was given a green light to pursue Zerrin by Demir as part of his torturing the Alboras plan. I can't tell if Sedat wants to ravish Zerrin or court her. The chase made it look like the former.

I'm pretty sure Cihan isn't going to bed Zeynep, but I can't predict Cihan's reaction. He's pretty fed up with his mother. Will this be the straw that broke the camel's back? Or will he refuse Zeynep and just let Sada keep on with her sabotage?.

Thanks, novelera.
The first time the murdered driver was mentioned was soon after Cihan rescued Necmi. We were confused then because we saw that Necmi was saved. Maybe there was something edited out but I never bothered to check.

I'd bet that Alya finds out about Mine after she starts a real relationship with Cihan. Mine will likely be very jealous and cause trouble.

I can’t believe that Cihan would make a baby with Zeynep.

#19 edits

I can’t remember if anyone mentioned this, but Muzzafer and Ummu are husband and wife, and Pakize is their daughter. They have their meals in the kitchen along with Kadir.

There was an interesting edit. The help eats in the kitchen and gossips about the bosses. Ummu recounts that Sada told Alya to stay home and take care of the child. The woman studied for years to become a doctor. Is this acceptable, Muzzafer?

Muzzafer reminds her the hospital is Demir’s. As if they would allow it if it wasn’t Demir, Ummu replies, you won’t be able to prevent women from working. Who is preventing, he asks, it’s because of Demir. And the hospital wouldn’t let me in. I hope he does nothing to the girl. Allah korusun, Ummu says.

Don’t speak without knowing the whole story, Muzzafer tells her. Cihan isn’t against her working, it’s yenge (SIL or aunt, referring to Sada). Cihan thinks about her more than all of us, understand? Does he think a lot, Ummu smiles. He tells her to keep eating.

They have been editing bits here and there hinting that Kadir is sweet on Pakize. He doesn’t show it outright. He teases her and annoys her. I’ve caught his glances. And he doesn’t like that she’s got a crush on Sahin. This plays out on a larger scale at this dinner.

Muzzafer mentions that a good family friend’s son saw Pakize at the market and was interested. This fellow has a successful restaurant in Mardin and is opening a branch in Midyat. And he’s handsome, too. Muzzafer says his friend wants to ask Pakize’s hand for his son. Muzzafer gave the okay and Ummu is thrilled.

Of course, Pakize is less thrilled. She doesn’t want to get married. She wants to stay with her family in the konak. Kadir speaks up on Pakize’s behalf and slanders the potential groom. Pakize is pleased to have backup, but no one realizes Kadir’s ulterior motive. It seems the possible proposal is on hold for now. Kadir is pleased. Later, Ummu gives Kadir a scolding and a couple of swats over what he said.

Dondi, thank you so much for that excellent recap of all the chaos . I have been recording this show, but I haven't had chance to watch. I finally watched the last episode and read your recap . I am having trouble matching the names to the faces.
So, this is another tale of feuding mafia type families. I notice that there are a lot of chases. It remind me if Hercai and The daughter .
The guy playing Sahin looks familiar to me . The actress playing Nare was in that dizi I watched that nobody else was watching ..."Madre" or was it " Mujer?Susan"

Dondi, thank you for the edits! They fill out the story so much! I never understood the truck/ from earlier. It's obvious this driver was rescued and grateful.

The kitchen discussion is wonderful!! I love how Ummu questions why Alya isn’t supposed to work! The staff doesn’t miss much and are part of the family!

Loving this show!
