I'm busy doing a kpa summary for tomorrow right now. I am doing things tomorrow, but I could do a very short one later in the day. Lots of important staff happened in this episode. Let me know if you want me to do this.
Babachita
I wrote a long summary of tonight and stupidly switched Google pages before I was quite done. Arrgh! (Cómo se dice "aargh" en español?)
Sadakat told Cihan that Boran's father was Ecmel, as someone here guessed. Ecmel abandoned her to marry someone else, not knowing she was pregnant. Ecmel's brother came along and married her, knowing she was pregnant. - This is Sadakat's version. Wonder what Ecmel's version is? Sadakat is a known manipulator.
Sadakat tried to have Ecmel killed in the hospital, but Cihan's men got it stopped just in time.
Zeynep turns out to he pregnant from her lover back in her village. Alya examined her and found out. Spanish version doesn't say why Umma got Alya to examine her. Perhaps she was spotting or miscarried.
Cohan is of course upset about the news of Boran's parentage, and Ecmel's treatment of Sadakat. Sahin comes to the konak, upset that there was an attempt on Ecmel's life. Cihan waves a gun in his face, upset. Cihan says he repents of saving Ecmel's life. Everyone save Sada is shocked. Nare grabs a gun and waves it in Sada's face. End scene.
- Anastasia
Thanks so much, Anastasia. I'm sorry you lost the longer version, but you certainly got the gist. I appreciate your getting us started.
I knew Ecmel wasn't going to be bumped off. The writers want more of his evil snarls.
There was also a smug grin on Demir's face, something about a shipment. If anyone understood this better, let me know!
So Sadakat wormed the location of where Cihan planned to have Zeynep live and, IIRC, told her awful family about it. I wonder if some things were cut. Alya seemed quite willing to go along with a religious ceremony between Cihan and Zeynep (to save her life). I suppose Alya thinks she's leaving with Deniz anyway, so why not have him marry Zeynep. Is this going to be a family tradition, the first born Albora is not really his father's son?
Alya put Deniz's passport in a safe in her room. But I'm getting the feeling that she's possibly having second thoughts. She and Cihan are getting along well, and Cihan made the boy the happiest kid in Turkey with his birthday party and his pony.
Oops, I meant also to say that I hated to see the breach between Cihan and Sahin. Sahin is, I suppose, out for revenge.
Novelera, Babachita, Anastacia: I missed last night's episode due to watching "HILOS". Anything crazy happened?
- Anastasia
At the top of Thursday's Spanish episode, while still at the horse ranch (çiftlik?), Cihan took Alya for a horseback ride. C had A sit behind him and hold on to his waist. They galloped out into the beautiful countryside, and both enjoyed the ride. They stopped and dismounted and C asked A about Boran's ring. Alya said she is angry with Boran and done with him. He is just the father of her child. C said "Don't get angry with Boran, get angry with me". (Assuming C was helping A preserve her good memories of Boran.) They had a tiff and the three (incl horse) started walking back to the horse pen, instead of riding back. (The producers forgot it was a couple miles away since they probably had a horse trailer right there.) Earlier at the çiftlik, Nare asked C if he was falling in love with Alya. She is the second person to have noticed this. (Someone else, I forget who, wondered that aloud also this week.) Anyway, it was a nice encounter between Cihan and Alya furthering their budding romance.
- Anastasia
Thank you very much for the quick recap, Anastasia. ITA with you on getting Sada’s version but we don’t know Ecmel’s. There’s got to be more to this.
“Çiftlik” is a farm.
Here’s the song that played when Cihan and Alya rode the horse:
Büklüm Büklüm/Twisted – Sezen Aksu
YouTube turn on cc for English subtitles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vj5MM9-ncI&list=RD1vj5MM9-ncI&start_radio=1
novelera, there’s nothing more to understand in that brief Demir phone call. His men are shipping merch and are arriving in Mardin by morning. That’s it, no other explanation. I suppose we will find out more in the next episode. BTW, this was out of order. I had to skim through several minutes of the next episode to get to it.
I feel so sorry for Sahin. He’s caught between his crappy family and his love for Nare.
Sada had a lot of nerve attacking Zeynep. She was unwed and pregnant at 17, too.
There was nothing else edited out of the episode we saw.
Anastasia – thank you for putting up recap for us!
That was some horse ride! Alya on the back behind the saddle? It’s not a motorcycle! There’s nowhere to put your feet, and a horse is very wide back there so you can’t grip with your thighs.
A gallop is a very bad idea. They must’ve super-glued the Alya stunt person to the Cihan stunt person.
A major advance for Cihan. Instead of telling a woman to stop talking, he actually said “I don’t want to talk about it.” You’re getting there, Cihan!
A lot of revelations! I get the feeling that here marrying a servant is okay. In the Spanish-language TNs it’s such a major issue that the whole plot revolves around it.
Sadakat obviously loved Ecmel-spawn Boran and wants to keep Deniz, so I guess that’s a point in her favor. Maybe. She’s pretty awful.
I noticed the merchandise came in legally past the border and was being transported on the highway. What happens next? What is it that makes it illegal to transport across Albora land?
I've been thinking about Sadakat's plans to have Cihan marry Zeynep. I guess I just thought that in Mardin you didn't always obey the law about polygamy. But now I'm wondering if Sadakat insisting on a religious ceremony was to sidestep the law. I believe, but am not positive, that the civil ceremony we've seen where there's an officiant and both parties sign a red book that they take with them was the legal one in Turkey and perhaps the required one. So, in Sadakat's mind Allah would bless the religious one that would give Azem's line an heir, but it wouldn't be illegal?
Maggie, good point about the gallop. I also wondered about Alya, a city woman, not being firmly in the saddle. In a way it also reminded me of Hercai. Reyyan, the protagonist, galloped on her horse to escape the oppressive atmosphere in her home, and that's how she met Miran, who almost ran her over with his car.
dondi, yes, Sadakat thinks her bad youth deserves sympathy, but it doesn't extend to Zeynep. However, I did wonder if perhaps her telling Cihan why she fears Ecmel taking Deniz could be a turning point. Is it possible they'll do an Azize (Hercai) and soften up Sadakat going forward?
Oh, I meant to say that I spoke briefly with our Turkish American cycling instructor at the Y about this dizi. His name is Ahmet, and he's a jewel! I have spoken to him other times about how Telemundo runs dubbed versions. I said, in English of course, that the dizi was taking place where things aren't so open and liberal as they seem to be in Istanbul. He was quite familiar with the different moral values where this dizi takes place. I mentioned Mardin, but I pronounced it Mardeen. He corrected me to the short "i" pronunciation. I assume he's right?
Anastasia: Narco Telenovelas are here to stay, so you better get used to seeing them on the air for awhile.
Now, Telemundo should get rid of the annoying Turkish garbage ASAP altogether.
#30 part 1
Nare points a gun at her mother’s face. How could you be so cruel! Why do I have a mother like you? I’m ashamed to be your daughter! Cihan rushes over and lowers her gun. Nare continues to shout—you’ve ruined all our lives! Sada answers, then shoot me. Pull that trigger.
Cihan struggles to take the gun from Nare. She turns to him, you prevented my uncle from being murdered. Why do you regret it now? Explain this. Do you really want Sahin as an enemy? I wish things had been different, Cihan replies, but Sahin’s father is a bastard. Understand? Nare asks, so you have to kill him? Answer! Who is the bad one here? Then you should kill my mother too! Come on, kill her!
Cihan finally wrests the gun from Nare. She falls to the floor and Ozkan goes to help her up. Let me go, she shouts. Cihan asks Ozkan to take Nare home. Nare looks at Cihan. Finger pointed, she tells him, you were the only one I trusted, but now you’re just another disappointment. Another frustration for Cihan. Nare and Ozkan leave the konak. Alya is totally stunned by what’s happening.
Alya approaches Sadakat. You called me your enemy and humiliated me. You accused me of everything, and now your daughter pointed a gun at you. What is going on? How could a daughter try to take her mother’s life? Are you all crazy? [maybe.] Do you think this is normal? [in Mardin, maybe.] Do you want to make enemies of your children? That’s what you did. They’ve turned on each other. Will you be happy when they all become monsters?
Sada and Cihan remain silent. Alya continues, he (Cihan) saved his uncle, but what would’ve happened if you had killed him? What kind of mother are you? Sada calmly asks, are you finished? She looks at Cihan, tell your wife to be quiet. He tells Sada to go to her room. Alya starts to talk to Cihan, he waves his hand at her and walks away.
At the hospital, Fidan asks Ecmel, you knew this would happen, didn’t you? He nods. Everything you predicted is coming true. Sahin enters the room. Fidan continues with Ecmel, haven’t you learned your lesson? They are blood thirsty animals! Murderers! Our only recourse is to attack them first.
Zerrin speaks up. Don’t forget that Cihan saved my father. Ecmel tells her to shut up. This must be part of their plan, he says. Do you believe Cihan? Ecmel asks Sahin, you went to their door, what did Cihan Efendi have to say? He regrets it, Sahin sadly answers. Ecmel laughs at that. Then Sahin adds, he regrets not killing you. Everyone is shocked.
Did you hear that, Ecmel asks Zerrin, this is part of the plan. The people that tried to kill me will take the blame tomorrow, like Façalı (the one who stabbed him). Cihan will save himself again. It’s clear they won’t let me leave here alive.
Just what we need to stir the pot some more, Demir enters. He says security has been reinforced. I wish you could be at ease, but the situation is critical. He asks Sahin, are you ready to save your father? Ecmel pipes up, he’ll help me. And you (Demir) will find a way to get me out of here. Demir says he’s ready to do so. Trust me. Ecmel thanks him.
Ecmel yells at Sahin, are you listening? Sahin! Sahin says he’ll think about it. Demir smirks on his way out. Ecmel lays guilt on his son. If they kill me, you’ll be to blame. Think about that, too.
In the bedroom, Alya is ready to rip into Cihan. Nare lost her mind because of you. Her behavior is your fault. You saved your uncle from your mother, but why did you say those things to your cousin? You regretted not killing Ecmel? I still think that way, Cihan replies, I should have killed him.
#30 part 2
Alya is incredulous. You had your uncle stabbed but not killed to protect Kaya. Why are you saying this now? I was starting to think you were not a cruel man. I don’t understand. Cruelty should be repaid in kind, Cihan answers. You don’t understand. This is something different. That’s right, she replies, I don’t understand, and I never will. I can’t understand your erratic behavior. What you put me and my son through, isn’t fair. I won’t accept this.
Cihan searches for a way to answer her. Maybe he’s wondering if he should tell her the truth. His phone rings. It’s Kaya. He wants to know if his mother tried to kill his uncle. Cihan replies, what’s going on? Did they let you out of solitary? Yes. Kaya demands an answer to his question. Cihan admits it’s true.
Kaya is ticked. Cihan tells him to relax, Ecmel is fine. Kaya goes off. I can’t relax! Don’t you realize after this we will never convince anyone that what happened was done to protect me? Mom did it so everyone would end up hating us, but apparently it didn’t work out. I’ll never forgive her.
Cihan tells him not to talk about their mother like that. Kaya’s still angry. Cihan asks, did you forget that Ecmel tried to kill you, too? What’s wrong with you? You should only think about the trial! Cihan hangs up.
Alya wants to know what Cihan is hiding. There is something in your attitude, the way you are speaking. I don’t recognize you. You’re different. I thought I was beginning to understand you. I guess you’re not, he snaps back, it’s not that easy to know someone, is it? Did you know Boran? She warns him to shut up. He says, the truth has many faces, as do people. Always remember this. He leaves the room.
Nare and Ozkan arrive home. She lies down on the bed. Ozkan starts to remove her boots. She pops up. What are you doing? Don’t touch me. Go away. He turns to go. She goes after him. Are you happy? It looks like it.
I’m happy, Ozkan replies, because I saw you yearning for the impossible with Sahin. She asks, do you think I’ll ever be with you? No, he answers, and I don’t care. As long as you’re not with Sahin, I don’t care. Call me obsessed, a lunatic, but I don’t care. That man won’t take you away from me. I won’t allow it. Don’t underestimate me. She pushes him out of the room.
Cihan is in that underground office. He’s drinking and is pushing glowing hot stuff around on some heating device. [rocks? I don’t see a lot of smoke. Wouldn’t that be dangerous in an unventilated area? Neyse…] He thinks about what Alya said about him being a different person. He thinks about Nare’s disappointment in him.
Sada looks at a photo album. She replays Nare’s words in her head. “I’m ashamed to be your daughter! You ruined our lives!” I’m not sure who’s pic she’s looking at. Maybe Azem when he was young. She looks at a framed photo of Deniz. She remembers saying, if Ecmel finds out, he’ll want to take my grandson.
Very drunk Cihan stumbles into Deniz bedroom. He takes off his coat. Removes a shoe. He can’t even get the other one off. He slides into the bed and cuddles with the boy. He strokes his hair and gives him a kiss and promptly falls asleep. Alya appears in the doorway. She enters the room and watches for a moment. She removes Cihan’s shoe and covers him and Deniz.
#30 part 3
Deniz wakes up in the morning and laughs when he sees Cihan Amca in the bed. He pokes at his uncle’s mouth and wakes him. Günaydin! Wake up, uncle. Let’s wrestle. Cihan replies, you want to wrestle so early in the morning? Go back to sleep. Deniz pulls the covers back. Cihan tries to get him back in bed. Deniz jumps on him. Get up. Let’s wrestle. Cihan gets up. If that’s what you want. He picks up Deniz.
Alya enters the room. Cihan puts Deniz down. She wants to get Deniz dressed. He pulls his mother down on the bed. Cihan picks Deniz up again. Alya tells her son to stop bothering Cihan. Change your clothes. Do you want help? Deniz says he can do it himself. Cihan chimes in, he’s a big boy now.
Cihan tries to explain to Alya. Last night… She knows he was drunk, and she’s not pleased. He admits it. She asks if that’s why he slept in Deniz’s room. He claims to have confused the rooms. She tells him she came in and saw him cuddling with Deniz. She notes that he looked so sad. What happened? It must have been because I was drunk, he answers. Do you get like this when you drink, she asks. I guess so, he replies. I’m having a hard time understanding your behavior last night, she says. He snarks, you’re always having a hard time trying to understand my behavior. She raises her brows. Of course, I’m the one who’s irrational now. He says that’s not what he meant. She tells him she took his shoe off last night. He thanks her. She leaves. Cihan helps Deniz with his pants.
Alya and Ummu head to check Zeynep. Sada comes down the stairs and asks Ummu to pack Zeynep’s things. She’s going to leave. She will return to where she came from. Alya objects. Where will she go? She’s pregnant. Sada says she can go wherever she wants. She should have thought about that before she got caught.
Cihan comes outside with another order for Ummu. Call Zeynep. Zeynep comes out and Cihan asks, what is the name of the boy you love? She answers, Cemal. Cihan says, Ihtiyar (Muzzafer) has found him. Now I will call your families here so we can settle this once and for all. We will plan a nice wedding in Diyarbakir. We will rent a house and furnish it so you can live in peace.
Allah razı olsun, (may Allah be pleased with you) Zeynep gratefully replies. Cihan answers, estağfurullah (literally, I seek forgiveness from Allah, but it also a polite way to dismiss compliments.) Cihan turns to Sada. This matter is resolved. Don’t concern yourself.
Sada replies, just let her leave. She can go to hell if she wants. Zeynep hugs Alya, Allah razı olsun. If not for you, my baby and I would be dead. Ne demek, Alya replies, you’re welcome. Zeynep goes to her room with Ummu. Ayla acknowledges Cihan with an approving nod. He returns it and leaves with Muzzafer. Alya looks more confused than before.
Alya goes to her room and looks at flights on her phone. Not sure but she might have been looking for flights out of Diyarbakir. She looks at Cihan’s door. He comes into her room, and she quickly puts the phone down. She tells him, what you did downstairs… it’s very valuable. Are you showing some appreciation, he asks. He prompts for her answer and smiles. She says yes. Big smile from Cihan—nice, very nice. She asks, what’s nice? I’ll ask my mother to find me another wife, he jokes.
#30 part 4
Alya sighs. He says, don’t sigh. I’ll get a second wife, she’ll run away, you’ll save her, and I’ll go after you. After that, we’ll find a home for her and marry her off. And in the end, I’ll have your appreciation again. She’s curious and asks, when is the wedding? Soon, Cihan replies. She asks, and you’ll go to Diyarbakir? Yes.
I’ll go too, Alya says. He asks why. Because I have responsibility for that girl, she answers. What about the hospital, Cihan asks. I’ll ask permission, Alya says. I’m just letting you know I’m going to the wedding with you. Deniz will come too. Cihan objects to that. It’s not safe. Alya makes her case. They argue. Cihan reminds her about Ecmel. And Kaya’s trial is tomorrow. Don’t insist.
Sada comes to see Cihan in the underground office. He tells her, I had a brother. Boran. I grew up thinking that Boran would lead this family. That’s how it should have been. But you put the weapon you should’ve given to Boran into my hands. I wanted to go abroad to study, but you decided to send Boran to study in Istanbul instead.
Cihan continues, but if Boran was to lead this family, he should have stayed here. He needed to know and understand these lands. Despite that, you always kept me in the middle of everything. Because deep down, you thought that Boran, because he had Ecmel’s blood, should never be the head of the family. Is that right, mother?
Sada doesn’t answer. Cihan reasons, if we had asked him if he wanted to lead the family, he would have said no. You caused him to think this way. You guided him in that direction. And all the while you prepared me to be in charge. Now I understand why you want me to have a son. You want an heir that doesn’t have Ecmel’s blood.
Sada admits that’s right. It might be right for you, Cihan replies, but not for me. I don’t care if he has Ecmel’s blood or not. As God is my witness, it is irrelevant. Because… I had an older brother, Boran, who named his son after me. That’s why his son is my son. Sada lowers her eyes and nods.
Alya calls a friend, Cansu. Cansu says it’s been a while. Are you still in Toronto? Alya tells her she lives in Mardin now. Cansu asks, isn’t that where your husband is from? Alya says that’s right but, unfortunately, Boran has passed away. Her friend gives condolences and asks what happened.
Alya says she will explain later. She called for a different reason. Deniz and I won’t return to Toronto. We want to go to New York. I’m looking at options, but if I don’t find anything, can we stay with you for a while? Cansu says of course. She asks Alya when she plans on coming. Maybe in a few days, Alya replies, I’ll call you back once I finalize the details.
Alya looks at items on Cihan’s desk. Tools he uses to work on jewelry or watches. She picks up a gold clip with a butterfly. [Don’t know, is she having mixed feelings about leaving?]
Nadim has called for a meeting in a wooded area. He asks Cihan about stabbing Ecmel to protect Kaya. He adds, and when you tried to kill Ecmel in the hospital, the aşiret leaders as well as the Alboras were thrown into chaos. You tried to kill Ecmel to stay in power. Why?
Cihan responds, you want to know why? Cihan shouts—let him go! In the Turkish version, we see someone drop a man with a rope around his neck from an overpass in the distance. Nadim shouts, why did you do this? The other men start shouting at Cihan as well. Guns are drawn on both sides. Nadim shouts, that’s Mirza, the head of the Emirhan aşiret! Cihan asks Nadim, do you recognize him? Of course I do, Nadim fires back, why are you doing this?
#30 part 5
Cihan orders to cut the rope. The rope is cut, and the man falls into water below. Nadim says that man was going to choke to death. You’re worried about him choking, Cihan replies, I spared his life. What more do you want. We want this war to end, Nadim states, let’s stop fighting.
Halis asks Nadim to tell his group to stand down. All guns are put away. Cihan explains, Mirza partnered with my uncle and betrayed me. He betrayed all of us and yet, I spared his life. He’ll have to leave with his family and I never want to see him around here again. He better not come back. Not him or anyone from his family. Nadim is stunned.
Cihan continues, Ecmel is trying to ruin the Alboras. He is undermining Albora with the games he is playing. As long as I am in charge of Albora, I will not allow this. Halis whispers to Cihan, what is happening? You’re angry with Ecmel, but I don’t understand why. Have you forgotten Ecmel’s betrayal, Cihan asks. Halis warns, you will start a war. Bring it, Cihan replies, but I won’t be the one who started it.
Nadim cools off. He asks about the shipments. Cihan says he will take care of it. Nadim and his group are not happy about that. They saw what happened when Cihan tried to handle things on his own. They are not ready to allow this again. Cihan assures them and says after the shipment, I’ll make sure to deliver your merch one by one. If anyone disagrees, we can work this out another way.
Cihan makes a move for his gun. A man on the other side does too. Cihan warns him not to draw. Cihan takes the clip from his gun and ejects a bullet into Nadim’s hand. A gift for you, he says, I’m leaving. If anyone doesn’t like this, you can shoot me in the back. But you only have one bullet. If I survive, have a lot more, and I won’t let any of you live. Cihan and his men leave. And we see Sahin has been lurking!
Alya is looking for places to live. Too small, too expensive [welcome to NYC!] A nurse comes in with a question about a patient. Alya gets up but she doesn’t close her laptop all the way. She passes Mine in the hall. Of course, Mine takes the opportunity to spy in Alya’s office. She looks at the laptop. Wow, New York… that’s excellent. The further the better. She’s leaving! Mine is giddy.
Alya sees Sahin in the hallway. She stops him. I wanted to say that I’m very sorry about yesterday. He thanks her. I swear I don’t understand why Cihan behaved that way, she says. Did something happen between you two that I don’t know? We used to be brothers, Sahin sadly says, but that’s over. She tells him that Nare is not doing well. She’s depressed.
Sahin thinks for a moment. He says, Nare was right. She and I should never have gotten close. And speak of the devil… Nare shows up. She exchanges awkward looks with Sahin. Then she greets Alya who tells her to come to her office. One more glance at Sahin and she walks away with Alya.
#30 part 6
In the office, Nare says that Sahin is right. After what my mother did, I can’t judge him on his behavior. You saw how my mother made me lose control. I pointed a gun at her. And I still don’t understand my brother. I wasn’t expecting him to react like that. Did you hear what he said to Sahin?
Alya says she thought the same thing. I was shocked, too. I told him. It’s weird. I think there’s something else going on. Nare asks, like what? I don’t know, Alya replies. I asked Sahin if something happened between them, but he avoided the question. I know he’s (Cihan) hiding something. He left after you did and came back drunk. This really affected him. He’s not well. Do you have any ideas? Nare doesn’t know and says, did you ask him? Of course I did, Alya answers, but he didn’t say anything.
Erol comes to the office to see Cihan. He’s brought a recording of the incident with Zerrin, Sedat, and Kaya. There’s no angle that shows when the gunshot occurs. They watch the video together. We see the 3 running through the streets. Erol explains, then they run into that blind alley, but unfortunately, there’s no angle that captures the street where the gunshot occurred.
Cihan asks if there is another camera that captures this from another angle. Erol says there is similar footage from a corner store. They look at that. A moto comes into view. Cihan asks if there is footage that follows the moto. There is. Cihan asks Erol to zoom in. The moto rider has a camera on his helmet.
They continue watching. The moto driver looks startled. He drops something and hops on the moto and leaves. They figure the driver saw the gunshot and it could be recorded on his camera. The driver looked terrified, Cihan says, we need to find that man.
Alya asks Nare, how are things with Ozkan? Nare says they sleep in separate rooms. You can’t go on like this, Alya says. Neither can you, Nare replies. It doesn’t matter how upset I am with my brother, we can’t compare him to Ozkan, right?
Alya takes a deep breath. Can I ask you something? I just discovered there’s a basement room. I asked Ummu what it was, and she said it was Cihan’s private room. Is he hiding something there like contraband? Nare answers no, he never brings any work stuff to the konak. It’s just his private space. Why does that worry you?
What’s wrong with asking, Alya replies, it’s just a question. I didn’t think it was normal. I thought he might be hiding something from his past. Nare pauses before asking, why does this make you curious? No answer from Alya. Nare says, you’re starting to show interest. Alya looks surprised.
And we are out.
Dondi observed that Cihan is a martyr. I think that’s exactly where the writers are going with his part.
I think he’s a type you see often in movies and TV shows, the taciturn man carrying some great sadness from his past that we finally find out about late in the story. The character is world-weary but also noble so he does what needs doing. He has a greater understanding than the rest of the characters, a wider, more comprehensive view. While others flap around he remains stoic. If someone needs punching, he’ll do that with one effective blow. He’ll also shoot somebody if that’s necessary, with unerring accuracy. Otherwise he’s very reserved and keeps his thoughts to himself.
A lot of time detectives are this sort of somewhat mysterious figure who carries the weight of the world, and I sure remember many from when westerns were so popular. I can’t recall any women characters like this.
These characters always do the right thing. The thing that really troubles me about Cihan is that he’s a real jerk sometimes. The way he treats Mine is horrible. The servidumbre are all really nice people, but he imperiously orders them about like some potentate. Would it kill him to say please? He also orders the women about. Get in the car! Go in the house! He tells them what they can talk about and what not. I don’t believe he’s ever told a man to (essentially) shut up. I’m thinking too about the time Alya jumped in a car and rescued Zeynep from her father. He complained to Alya that now she looked like the angel. The alternative would be what … a dead girl?
I just saw the recap is up! A nice long one – oh boy! I’m going to read it now.
Maggie, perfect description of Cihan. In reading your words, I came up with a character in a classic movie who also fits that description: Shane. Interestingly enough, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival produced a play based on that character. I didn't see it because it began after my annual visit north for the Shakespeare Festival.
Another wonderful recap, dondi. Thanks as always for the deets Telemundo doesn't show us or shows only parts of that make me even more confused. I normally would have listened to that confab in the skinny trees over and over, but I knew you'd explain it! So Cihan gets tough with the guys with other clans.
Cihan knows Alya is right about his mother, but he has a hard time letting go of familial loyalty. Plus, Alya often goes about saying her truths in a hectoring way. I'm surprised at her having been a married woman and not having learned how to get your point across to a man.
It sounds like Ecmel will escape somehow, probably with Demir's help. And then all hell will break loose.
Cihan's stoicism seems to drive everyone nuts. Nare blows up. Alya blows up, Kaya blows up.
Ozkan is such scum. Hard to tell if he has any affection for her at all, but he'd go to any lengths to keep her from Sahin.
I enjoyed the "estağfurullah" description of what Cihan said to Zeynep. Sort of like the English: "It was nothing."
I like Cihan's sense of humor. It often seems to only irritate Alya.
Cihan now knows what Viewerville has intuited for a while now. Sadakat never wanted Boran to head up the Azem Albora clan because he's Ecmel's.
I thought that gold thing with the butterfly might have belonged to Meryem. I even looked up the Turkish word because of it. No, butterfly is not meryem, it's kelebek.
Why is Alya so sure she can immigrate to New York?
Mine is giddy. Perfect adjective, dondi.
Yay, so happy there may be a way to show what happened when the creep whose name I've forgotten wrestled with Kaya. I want Kaya out of prison and reunited with his adored nephew Deniz.
Very interesting about Cihan being a martyr. I hope he gets to leave that role and find happiness at some point.
Shane popped into my mind right away, too.
Such a powerful story enhanced by this wonderful patio!

This is a splendid recap, Dondi, wonderfully written! I love that you gave us some Turkish explanations. How for along are you in your Turkish learning? It sounds like you’re advanced level.
I didn’t understand that whole meet-up in the grove of trees. I couldn’t figure out why guns were drawn. I think it understand it better now, but what’s up with the guy with the rope around his neck? Was that the head of another clan, and did Cihan arrange to have him almost hung? If so, Cihan is sure good at having people almost killed. I also didn’t see what Cihan put in the hand of the other guy. A mint? A piece of gold? Thank goodness you explained that.
That underground office is really cool. I love the ceiling which I guess is the original rock.
I was glad to get a good look at Cihan’s shoes. I’ve thought before that he wears extra clunky ones that look too bulky to go with his slender legs. I see now they have super-thick soles. I noticed some scenes ago when a lot of the men were standing in the courtyard that the Cihan actor is a bit shorter than most of them. Maybe that’s the reason for the thick soles.
The detailed recaps are great but I really like the links to the music. I had to find one episode to hear the actors real voices and the dubbers aren’t bad. (Hulya in La Familia had a shockingly high voice),
Most important, though, is OMG never have an open fire inside the house! Is he trying to burn the place down? Which now that type that, it wouldn’t be the worst thing so never mind. Indoor grill all you want, Cihan.
