Kara Para Ask – Black Money Love – Amor de contrabando
Episode 79 #1

At Omer’s home
The Four Musketeers (Husseyn, Omer, Arda, Pelin) are sitting on the patio watching Omer’s telephone showing the apprehension of the “traitor” Mahmut, who, of course, has been framed by the real traitors, Ali and Husseyn. As we suspected, Mahmut is indeed the policeman who threatened and tried to attack Elif. Husseyn grabs the phone and said they can watch it later. He did tell them that he didn’t mention Tayyar. The informer gave his name, but only his nickname.
Omer: What about Ali? Metin said Ali was the informer.
Husseyn: Come on, Metin is absolutely crazy. You shouldn’t trust any of his words.
Husseyn goes on to ask: Would you believe him if he says one day that I was the informer?
Arda and Pelin look at one another. Omer: Of course I wouldn’t, how could I?
Husseyn: Look, I took these recordings from Ali. We set a secret meeting. (Arda and Pelin look at one another at this.) Would he do so if he was a bad man? (Husseyn, of course, knows all about Arda following him to his meeting with Ali. He is smirking as he is saying all this.)
Husseyn: No comment? You want to hear more? Here (he shows a document), evidence of the district attorney taking money, 500,000L. There you are.
Pelin: We already checked those accounts, both the prosecutor’s and his wife’s.
Husseyn: Have you thought about checking his wife’s stepsister’s account?
Omer: Oh, Pelin, how did you guys miss this?
Arda: You’re right. Sorry. We should have checked.
Husseyn, magnanimously and grandiosely: OK, you don’t have to feel bad. We’re learning. You’ll learn in time. Here stands the chief, with many years of experience. You make fun of me when I say it, but I didn’t just fool around while turning this hair and this beard white. You will learn in time, but we need to make the prosecutor talk, it’s important.
Omer, who has been buying all this: We have a plan for the prosecutor. We’ll deal with him.
Husseyn: Nice, yeah, if we make him give a statement by himself, it’ll be better. We’ll get a lead quicker. By the way, don’t scare the man. He has a ticket to the USA. If he goes, we’re done. We’d have to wait for the new prosecutor to be assigned and tell him about the Elif situation and hope to convince him. If it goes wrong, it will be hard for us to get her out. Be careful.
Omer: Thanks, Husseyn.
Husseyn, perhaps hoping for more thanks: All right, then, stand up (to Pelin), come give me a hug. (In her ear) I have good news for you.
Pelin: What are you talking about?
Husseyn: Did you think I would stop after finding the informer? I faced up to Ali. Fortunately, he helped me. You’re assigned back on to the mission.
Omer now has a big grin.
Pelin: Seriously? So, did the doctor who died (Guray) have anything to do with Mahmut?
Husseyn: We think he does. Mahmut didn’t say anything like that, but he told me he was in the department the day the man died.
Pelin: Thank you very much, Chief. Thank you.
Omer: Congratulations, partner!
Husseyn: You don’t need to thank me. I did my job. Did you think I would just let you guys go like that?
[Arda has a smile, but I don’t think he’s buying all this. He probably is impressed with the lengths Husseyn went to pull this off. Arda doesn’t get a warm hug, either.]

Episode 79 #2

At the Denizer mansion
Asli is sitting in the living room looking out at Istanbul at night. She has been thinking and picks up her phone to call her Bitter Aunt (BA), who answers this time.
BA: Oh, girl, tell me where have you been? I couldn’t reach you for such a long time. I’ve been calling Nilufer, and she never responds, It’s even harder to reach you. (Asli rolls her eyes.) Your home phone is never answered either.
Asli: We don’t answer phones because of the journalists. Bahar was going to deal with them, but she’s not around. [I just noticed this. Is she gone for good, I hope?]
BA: OK, I see. So, how are you doing?
Asli: Let’s just say we’re doing our best. I just wanted to thank you [uh oh!] for sending the money as soon as Nilufer called you.
Bitter Aunt is very confused at this.
BA: I’m sorry?
Asli: I mean, the money you sent.
BA: Ah, of course, (making quite a face). The thing is that I’ve been so busy recently that I forgot all about it. You know, the money.
Asli: Yeah, sure.
BA: Was it enough? So tell me, did the kids send you the right about of money?
Asli: Of course it was; they sent 700,000L.
BA (impactada), OK, if you need any more, you know I can always send you more. Just let me know. And, how are you now? How’s Elif? I saw her on the news awhile ago? Dld you see each other? Could you help her?
Asli [her expressions are fun to watch as she listens to this. Asli is very entertaining!]: She’s fine. She’ll be out soon.
BA: I hope so. And please tell Nilufer not to call me only when she needs money. Tell her to check if I’m doing well or not sometimes.
Asli: OK, Aunt, Thank you for very much again. Have a good evening.
BA: Good night.
They hang up. Bitter Aunt is thinking hard! She sighs and turns to her young female assistant: You see that? If you don’t have your job done properly, you have to deal with it yourself.
Assistant: Actually, you showed the girls (her daughters, I think) the set, so they took it out. [This was confusing. It shows that BA’s daughters and her assistant are all involved with her money decisions. The “set” must be where they think the daughter/s got the cash. We know that cash came from Mert, so I’m a little confused about the “set” discussion. That cash should still be there, unless, of course, the daughters have been using it for themselves.]
BA: Please, it’s nonsense. I’m still trying to teach you how it’s done after all these years. Stop trying to hang on to my words.
Assistant nods and leaves the room.
Bitter Aunt is still trying to make sense of what she heard from Asli.

Back at Elvan’s
Arda: OK, then, I’ll see you later!
Omer is getting ready to leave. Husseyn offers to join them. Omer: No, Husseyn you have a rest.
Husseyn: But you mess up things when I’m not there, you know.
Pelin: See what happens now. Husseyn will keep on fooling us with this.
Husseyn: Of course, it’s not over yet. I will get you in line in the morning and make you kiss my hand.
Husseyn snickers at this along with Arda and Pelin.
Husseyn to Arda: What’s up? Don’t look so nervous.
Arda: Don’t worry.
Arda and Pelin leave.

Episode 79 #3
Omer: Hey, Husseyn. I’m sorry for that day in the hospital. I was angry. I couldn’t manage my anger.
Husseyn: Honestly, it hurt me deeply. Later on, I thought one only hurts those that one loves. It’s all in the past now. I’m happy that you’re smiling now. It’s enough for me. These things happen between brothers. You know I care for you.
They hug.
Omer: Husseyn, I apologize.
Husseyn: I apologize, too. My apologies. (Husseyn has a sad look in his eyes.) OK, Come on. They are waiting for you.
Arda takes the license plates off a minibus outside Omer’s home. Now it looks exactly like Tayyar’s minibus.
Pelin: The minibus in front of his house is his, right? You’re sure?
Arda: Yes, I’ve seen him many times getting out of it. It was really hard even to find a like one.
Pelin: Your clothes are at the back, OK?
Arda: Anyway, did you see what he did? I made a big mistake accusing Husseyn of this. I couldn’t even look at his face while watching Mahmut’s confession video.
Pelin: I told you, Arda, didn’t I?
Omer joins them: Sorry I kept you waiting. So, let’s get going, partners. We have a job to do.
They drive off. We see Husseyn finishing his meal at the table. His phone rings.
He answers: Hi Tayyar.
Tayyar: I hope I didn’t wake you up.
Husseyn: No.
Tayyar: You know heroes don’t sleep at all.
Husseyn: Did you just call for a midnight chat?
Tayyar: Remember we made an agreement to cease fire today? I realized that I missed you when I first saw that paper, Husseyn.
Husseyn: Say anything else you have to say.
Tayyar: How does it feel to be the hero of the day? It’s nice, isn’t it?
Husseyn: Good, very good.
Tayyar: I hope your plan works and I don’t regret this. That you’ll stay a hero. Pray for it. If this plan fails, the consequences will be heavy. Keep this in mind.
Husseyn hangs up looking thoughtful. He finishes his drinks and looks almost teary-eyed.

We see Arda walking to the courthouse (or police station, I get the exteriors confused), while Omer and Pelin stay in the minibus. Arda is wearing a wire. Pelin is afraid he doesn’t have the wire on properly. Omer tells her not to worry: It’ll work. What else can he do?
Pelin: Don’t say that. It makes me feel bad.
Omer: What’s there to make you feel bad about? Arda is a good boy. If he breaks your heart, I’ll break his head. He knows that. Don’t worry about it.
They smile at each other.
Arda speaks: I saw him. He’s coming to the door. (It’s the DA.) Arda approaches him: Good evening, sir. He sent me to inform you.
DA: About what? Who sent you?
Arda: Your daughter’s operation has been delayed. Also, your flight to the US. You will go next week. I will give you your new tickets.

Episode 79 #4
The DA looks incredulous: What are you talking about? I don’t have that time. My daughter can’t survive one more week. We’ll lose her. Go and tell your boss that we must go when we agree, otherwise he can forget about me. Am I clear? I’ll let the woman go in the morning.
Arda: You can tell him this yourself. He’s waiting for you in the minibus. Please, this way.
They walk toward the minibus that Omer and Pelin are in.
Pelin: When I say three, the bird is in the cage. Count up to three.
Arda opens the door, and the DA is not happy to see Omer, not Tayyar.
Omer: Welcome, dear Prosecutor Chief. We’ve been waiting for you.
With Arda right behind him, he has no way to escape and finally enters the minibus.

In the basement of a parking garage
The minibus stops (with Omer, Arda, Pelin, and the DA (who thought he was meeting with Tayyar).
Omer: As I told you, sir, we have strong evidence. In fact, your conversation with my colleague in front of the building was recorded.
DA looking uncomfortable: How can you listen to me without any authorization?
Omer: We’re both on the same side, sir. Don’t panic and listen to me.
DA: What do you want from me? Why did you bring me here?
Omer: Commissioner Mahmut, who was in contact with you, admitted that he was the informer and gave you the instructions he received from above. We proved that everything was organized through the instructions that they gave. We’ve also recorded Commissioner Mahmut’s confession, and we also have the receipt for a large amount of money that was transferred to your wife’s stepsister’s account.
They wait a bit, letting the DA ponder this information: What do you want from me?
Omer: The answer’s simple. All we want you to do is your job. We just want you to administer the law. We want you to take Elif out of jail, who you took into custody without any good reason.
DA: Look, all of this…
Omer, interrupts: I know that you’ve done all of this for your daughter. I also know that in the past you’ve done your job. You practiced the law honestly before this case. If you’re without hope it can make you desperate to try anything. I’m not saying you’re right, but I understand. Listen to your conscience. Is it right to destroy someone’s life in order to save another? If you accuse Elif of her father’s mistakes, this will ruin her life.
The DA is very impactado. He thinks for a while.
DA: Do you want me to let my daughter die? I can’t do this.
Omer: She’ll be fine. Here’s the money you need for the operation. (He hands him the bag full of Metin’s money.)
The DA still looks unconvinced, but maybe there’s some hope.

Back at the station (or courthouse)
Elif, in her new clean cell, puts her food tray by the door. In walks Sebnem, the lawyer. Good cop is happy to let her into Elif’s cell.
Sebnem: It’s over, Elif, you’re free.

Episode 79 #5
Elif: Really? How?
Sebnem: The DA found out that he made a mistake. He reviewed your company files and he decided that it was your father, not you, who was guilty. This also means he has accepted that Nilufer was kidnapped.
Elif: What about Fatih Dundar?
Sebnem: He is free now until the first hearing. We will see what happens after that.
Elif, starting to react: So, I’m totally free now!
Good cop smiles, watching her hug the lawyer.
Sebnem brought her some clothes: You can change and then pull yourself together. While you’re busy doing that, we’ll do what’s necessary.
They hug some more, Elif looking happy and Sebnem looking a little worried, probably because she works for Tayyar, IIRC. [I could be wrong here, but that’s my impression.]

We see the DA with his daughter on a stretcher.
Omer: Asli’s arranged everything with a friend who lives in America. She’ll take care of everything you need until you get back here. She’ll let you know.
DA’s daughter: Thank you, Officer Omer, for all your efforts.
He smiles and strokes her hair: Take as many photos as you can, OK? We’ll talk when you’re back.
Smiles from DA, his wife, and daughter. [I’m wishing they would hurry up and get going!]
DA tells daughter to look after her mother. (I guess he is staying put for now.) She promises to and asks him to take care of himself, too. They load her into ambulance and wife hugs DA before she joins their daughter in the ambulance. They wave at one another.
We see the DA and Omer and good cop and, uh oh, Husseyn is there, too!!!
DA to Omer: I’ve never taken a wrong turn in my life. I’ll pay for everything I’ve done. I know it’s not easy for you to understand me, but you will when you become a father.
Omer: Consider all the options first before you make a verdict, OK, sir?
DA wipes away tears: OK, I’m ready. Let’s go now.
The cop gestures to his car. Husseyn and Omer are left behind. [I’m a little paranoid here. Now I’m worried about the DA—were those cops honest or loyal to Husseyn?!!!]
Husseyn: And here ends the story of our hero. It’s like a movie ending.
Omer: Don’t make fun of it, now.
Husseyn: I’m not. You’ve done a really good thing.
Omer: They’ll assign the DA to the High Council of Judge and Prosecutors, right?
Husseyn: Yes, let me tell you. He’s never seen Tayyar. He always talked to Mahmut. Now Mahmut is in custody for investigation. We can go for revenge, if you want.
Omer: Maybe we should leave this for another time. This is my happiest day ever.
Husseyn: Yeah, what else have we go to do? Let’s go there quickly and give her a surprise. Just think, she’ll be so glad to see the sunshine again.
Omer: Is everything ready?
Husseyn: Yes, I arranged the place and everything else.
Omer: Good. What about the ring?
Husseyn: It’s also arranged. They’re customizing it for Elif today.

Episode 79 #6

At the Denizer mansion
Asli is looking for Hulya. Asli opens the front door for Elvan, Melike, and Demet.
Asli, looking confused: Good morning?
Nilufer comes down: Welcome! Good morning!
Elvan: Thank you. I heard that Elif was getting out. We thought we’d cook her favorite food so that we’d also have a helping hand (in her release celebration).
Asli looks confused and rolls her eyes. [The actress is probably the most gifted eye-roller I have seen in a dizi!]
Melike: We wanted to come.
Asli: I wish you hadn’t.
Melike: Do you mean me?
Nilufer: Why are you waiting at the door. Please come in, please.
Asli: Please keep your shoes on. We don’t have those customs.
Elvan: But when it rains where we live, everything is covered with mud, so we’ll make it dirty everywhere.
Asli: No, no, no! Please don’t worry.
Elvan looks uncomfortable, but Melike speaks up: OK, then.
They enter.
Nilufer: So, we were planning to decorate the house for the whole celebration.
Asli: As far as I know, Omer has different plans. Elif won’t come home straight away.
Melike, grinning: Sure, I know! We know about everything.
Melike reaches out and touches Asli’s arm. Asli quickly recoils from this.
Melike: Yesterday, they got us all together. They were getting prepared for something. He’ll let us know when they’re ready and then we’ll go.
Nilufer is smiling, Asli is grimacing, and Elvan looks concerned.
Nilufer: OK, then we can all go together.
Melike: That would be great. We’ve come all the way through here. It was tiring.
Asli gives her an arched expression.
Melike continues: Got a bus, got a Metro, got a cab, all very crowded. So good that you have a car. We can all go together in comfort. (Asli looks truly horrified at this idea, clasping her throat, [but no pearls here] in dismay.)
Nilufer laughs.
Asli asks what food she has brought for Elif.
Elvan: This is salty yogurt and here’s some chili pepper paste and there was a market this morning, so those are fresh vegetables I bought from them.
Nilufer: Hulya! Please help Aunt Elvan just show her the kitchen.
Melike: I know the kitchen. It’s not the first time I’ve been here. And also, this counts as our house from now on (Asli’s eyebrows are way up now!). Don’t worry, come on, Mom, Demet, come on. They go to the kitchen. Nilufer is going to join them, but Asli calls her back.
Asli: What’s all this?
Nilufer: You’re really obsessed about these people.

Episode 79 #7
Asli: This is really rude. They come and go whenever they want. Shouldn’t they be informing us in advance?
Nilufer: OK, they want to make a surprise and help us for Elif. Don’t we like Omer? We do. He’s a really good person and these people are his family. It won’t change no matter if you like them or not.
Asli: OK, talk to them and tell them to inform us in advance if they come in the future.
Nilufer: I will, Asli.
In the kitchen, Elvan thanks Hulya: Thank you very much, my beautiful girl.
Hulya seems appreciative.
Elvan asks Melike: Tell me, didn’t you inform them about our visit? They weren’t expecting us.
Melike: I’m sorry. I totally forgot about it. (Elvan has a disapproving look at this.) And, what’s the problem? We’re practically related now.
Elvan: I really don’t know what to say to you.
While they are talking, Demet (just as she did previously) seems dazed in reaction to things in the kitchen. She reaches out and touches several items.
Melike: You don’t say anything, Mom, it’s not an issue. Elif is going to marry in the family. We’re almost relatives. They should get used to us coming here more often.
Elvan: Well, anyway, just wash them.
Demit, with a mug she had filled: I’m going to the garden.
Melike: Demet! Don’t make me crazy. Give us a hand.
Demit appears not to hear and goes outside. Elvan says to let her go.
In the garden, Mert is walking fast and collides with Demet. She makes a little scream in surprise.
Mert: Oh, excuse me! I’m sorry.
She is entranced with Mert, just like she is with all the other things in the house. She just stares at him.
Mert: Are you OK?
Demet nods her head.
Mert: We haven’t met, have we?
She shakes her head, again in a trancelike state.
Mert, smiling: Are you friends with Nilufer?
Demet: No.
Mert, laughing: It’s good that you know how to talk. My name’s Mert.
He grins and leaves her and walks on to wherever he was headed.
She smiles and, still dazed, starts to follow him.
In the kitchen, Elvan and Melike are preparing the food. Hulya is looking for things in drawers. Mert walks in, followed by Demet.
Mert: Hi.
Elvan and Melike greet him.
Mert: What’s going on? Did we hire a catering company for Elif’s party?
Melike: Oh, come on. We’re Elif’s relatives, or we will be soon, actually.
Elvan: I am Elvan, I’m Omer’s mother. This is Melike my older son’s wife and this is my granddaughter, Demet.
Mert: I’m childhood friends with Elif and Nilufer. I’ve been staying here for awhile. Anyway, take it easy. See you!

Episode 70 #8
Mert leaves, and Demet is still in her trancelike state, smiling and following him with her eyes.
Melike notices this and hits her with a spoon: What are you doing with your mouth open?
(Elvan is startled at this.) Pull yourself together. Go prepare the ingredients for the salad. Demet complies.
Now we get a discussion of old-fashioned v. modern customs as Melike says to Elvan: Mom, how can this be possible? What does this single man do in a house with three young girls in it?
Elvan keeps shredding a carrot without comment.
Later, Elvan and Melike are in the living room. Melike is looking in a chest. Elvan says: This is actually not right. We shouldn’t be doing this.
Melike: Mom, you take these.
Elvan: Their assistant is also gone.
The doorbell rings as Elvan is holding a silver tray. She puts it down and goes to answer the door to find…Bitter Aunt (BA) and her assistant.
Elvan says hello.
BA: Who are you? Why are you staring at me?
Elvan struggles to answer this.
BA: OK, here, take these bags upstairs. She hands the luggage to Elvan.
Elvan has a puzzled look.
BA: There was Hulya. It seems she’s not here. Have they just hired you?
Melike has been watching this.
Elvan doesn’t answer.
BA: What a strange person you are. Why don’t you answer my questions? Where are you from? They must have looked for you for a long time. OK. Go upstairs and tell Asli and Nilufer that their aunt is here. Do you understand?
Elvan is still at a loss for words.
BA: Why are you frozen like this? Who am I talking to?
Elvan looks away.
BA: Honestly, I feel like fainting. Please go and make coffee for me. I bet this woman can’t make it. She probably doesn’t even know how to make decent coffee.
Nilufer and Asli come downstairs, Nilufer telling Asli to calm down.
BA: Surprise!
They are definitely surprised.
Asli: Welcome, Auntie. So good to see you.
BA hugs her, saying how good it is to see her. They both greet their aunt.
Elvan and Melike are still standing there.
Melike: I’m Melike, and that woman that you were just telling to carry your bags is Elif’s mother-in-law. I understand now that you are Elif’s aunt. Nice to meet you.
BA takes a haughty, appraising look at Elvan from head to toe.
Elvan makes one of her lovely smiles.
BA to Melike: Nice to meet you, too.
She doesn’t seem able to welcome Elvan.

At the jail cell, the four musketeers are visiting with Elif through the bars.
Arda: Come on guys. Everyone knows about your Fame in this matter. Look at him. He’s going to cry. Looks like you’re going to cry, too.
Pelin: Chief, I think you shouldn’t say no. Your brother is asking a favor from you on such an unforgettable day. Don’t break his heart.
Arda: Well…
Husseyn: Well, look at this. You’ve gathered your entire team around for us. OK, I accept. If my brother’s in, I’m also in.

Husseyn: Come here and give me a hug. (Arda, Pelin, and Omer join this hug.) I love you guys.
Omer: Just be careful.
They are distracted, and then Elif emerges, nicely dressed thanks to Sebnem who brought her clothes and other items.
There is nice shot of the four musketeers smiling together as Elif emerges.
Omer: Elif, my love!
The cell door is opened and Elif walks to her friends. She is finally able to smile as she hugs Omer.
Omer: Are you OK?
Elif: I’m fine at last. How are you? How’s your arm?
Omer: I took my meds, so I’m fine. I missed you so much. [The chemistry of the stars is again very apparent as Omer and Elif embrace in this scene.]
Husseyn: Omer, come in so we can say congratulations. Get better soon, too, girl. (to Elif)
Elif: Thank you as she hugs Husseyn.
Omer: Husseyn is the one who got you out.
Husseyn: Don’t exaggerate. I’ve only done my duty.
Elif: Was it really you? Thank you so much. (She hugs him again.) It really means so much to me. (Husseyn looks a tad guilty here, as he should.)
Arda: Get well soon, Elif!
She hugs Pelin, who exclaims: Such happiness Elif. Then Arda hugs her.
Husseyn is watching all this.
Elif smiles at Omer.

At the Denizer mansion
We hear lots of laughter as the Bitter Aunt and Nilufer, Asli, Elvan, Melike, and Demet enter the living room.
Bitter Aunt (I think she is Nedret): Shame on you ladies. You should have told me who you were. How would I know I was surprised to see this house so crowded. Besides, I was not expecting any visitors at this hour.
Melike: You despise us…
Elvan interrupts Melike: Whatever. It’s over. I’m very happy that I’ve met you. I’m Omer’s mother, Elvan Demir. Omer, Elif’s friend.
Asli: My aunt comes from a prominent family, Nedret Denizer Kuloglu.[ What a snob Asli is here. If Denizer is her maiden name, she might be Ahmet’s sister.]
Nedret, laughs heartily: You’re a sweet girl, Asli. How did you remember that? Nobody has used that name for years. Denizer! It reminds me of my youth.

At the cemetery
We see Omer and Elif. They are tending to the flowers on the graves, including her father’s.
Elif: Omer, what are you doing? Why are we here? He’s as much guilty as Tayyar Dundar for the things that happened to me. I don’t feel comfortable being here.
Omer takes her hand: Elif, I know you have regrets. And, yes, you’re right, but we came here to receive his blessings rather than to call him to account for what he did. We’re both orphans. I wish our fathers were still alive. We could do everything right. I wish I could come to your house with flowers and chocolate. Life has taken so much from us, but I can’t be sad. Life gave me you. Life literally made me learn what the word “miracle” meant. He smiles at her and takes her hand. (Omer speaks to Ahmet’s grave) I promise you this, sir, I’ll be your daughter’s perfect companion to my last breath. I’ll be her friend and confidant, and if necessary, I’ll sacrifice life so that she never sheds a tear. Elif is my life companion. Asli and Nilufer will become my sisters. Rest in Peace, Sir. I’ll protect them all.
Omer and Elif hug as they stand next to the grave. They walk out to the main road of the cemetery.

Elif: We’re going home now, right?
Omer: Uh…
Elif: Omer! Look if you’re going to make a surprise party or something, I’m really tired and I need to shower and get rid of the smell on me.
Omer: A surprise party. I’ve never heard of such a thing. Look, I’ve been exhausted for the last two days. Let’s go and eat something. Feed ourselves, then I’ll drive you home, OK? Let’s go.
Elif: There must be some food at my house.
Omer: Come on, Elif. You don’t want to stay alone with me now, huh? Where’s the trust?
Elif: No, I didn’t mean it like that, Omer.
Omer: OK, I get it. I surrender. You’re right.
They get into his car.

At a building that looks like a school or some other municipal location that can be rented out for special occasions. It has a flag in front and blue metal gates around the complex.

Arda is helping decorate to welcome Elif.
Husseyn, Elvan, Demet, Melike are all working to make it festive.
In walk Asli, Nedret, and Nilufer.
Nedret: What is this, here? Have we come to a lower-class wedding? [They’re all snobs today, apparently.]
Later, we see Omer and Elif arrive, walking up the stairs. Elif is trying to make a call, but there’s no answer.
Elif: I said let’s go home in case Nilufer and Asli are worried, but I can’t reach them. They didn’t call me, either.
Omer: Maybe they’re busy.
Elif: Well, you’d think they’d care about their sister a bit, right?
Omer: I don’t know that much.
They come to the entrance with balloons and a sign welcoming Elif.
Elif: Omer.
Omer: Come here, my love. Let’s ask if there’s someone who takes you seriously inside.
They walk in together.
When they reach the big room full of tables, food, etc., Elif turns to Omer: Omer, what have you done?
Omer: You haven’t seen anything yet.
They reach the end of the room where their families are waiting. They are clapping.
Elif is very touched.
Nilufer: Elif, we missed you so much.
The three sisters hug.
Nedret: OK, OK, please leave my girl to me for a moment.
Elif, surprised to see her: Auntie, welcome. When did you arrive? How was your journey?
Nedret: Just a moment ago. I just arrived and these witches brought me here right after my trip.
Nedret hugs Elif and whispers: Is this Omer behind you?
Elif: Omer, my aunt.
Nedret: Hello, my dear, how are you?
Omer: I’m fine, how are you?
Nedret: I’m glad to be here.
Elif walks over to Elvan and hugs her.
Elvan kisses her: Welcome.
Nedret is watching all this carefully. [I wonder what she is thinking. If she is really a Bitter Aunt, as her nieces refer to her, it’s probably nothing good!]

Thanks Babachita!

Elif is out of jail...Huseyin's lie was somehow believable and now even Arda feels bad for doubting Huseyin! It was a banner day for the big H man! LOL

And it looks like it's about to be a banner day for Omer! I don't know if I'd give someone a surprise wedding before they even have a chance to shower the jail stench off, but I suppose it's romantic?

Is Omer's niece too young for Mert? She definitely has a crush!

KPA

I don't know why the above comment is showing as anon - it was me. My computer is being weird. Signing me out of everything left and right.

Thanks for the recap, Babachita. Loved your asides and ITA with them.

Demet was very obvious. I think she's supposed to be 16. Mert is a college guy so maybe he's 20? But he does look older than that.

ITA, Darcy, about Elif showering. But at least she got a change of clothes.

#80 part 1

Fatma has decided to crash Elif’s party and is charging full speed towards the venue with Hatice in tow. Hatice begs, mother, please, what business do we have there? Fatma fumes, my child has entered the black earth, and they are killing her all over again. I will stand before them like a torment! They won’t be able to announce this engagement.

Hatice tries to reason, what fault does Omer have in my sister’s death? On the contrary, he has always helped us. Fatma is adamant, I will not accept my fate anymore. My child died and nobody cares. They are happily together. I am a mother! I will not allow this! There’s nothing Hatice can say to dissuade her mother.

Elif tells Nedret Hala that they are all ashamed they couldn’t make it to enişte’s (brother-in-law/aunt’s husband) funeral. Forgive us. Nedret answers, I would have been upset in the past, but now I understand. I couldn’t come to my brother’s (Ahmet) funeral or to my SIL’s (Zerrin) funeral. If you were in a bad way, I couldn’t leave you to someone else, could I?

Elif leans her head on Nedret’s shoulder and says, we went through so many hardships, and we could never be there for each other. That’s why I’m so angry with myself, Nedret replies, I couldn’t be with you when you needed me most. Maybe I could have possibly prevented all these things from happening. She looks at all her nieces—I don’t know why you didn’t tell me. I’m your aunt, you’re my legacy.

Meanwhile, Omer and Huseyin set up something with a saz player.

Elif responds to Nedret, I wanted to manage it on my own. Nedret gives Elif a kiss on the forehead. My poor little one, you are a copy of your father.

Music starts and Nedret looks over at Omer. She tells Elif, look, the serenade has started, I think it’s for you. Elif turns and looks. Omer begins to sing a Türkü. Elif gets up from her chair and Omer walks over to her. He continues to sing then he nods to Huseyin to join in the song. Elif keeps her eyes fixed on her beloved. The reactions are interesting, ranging from delighted (Omer’s family and friends) to halfhearted (Asli) to discontent (Bahar &Levent).

Omer gets down on one knee and takes Elif’s hand. He starts, signorina, I want to get lost in the forest of your eyes. I want you to get lost in my heart. Let our hands be clasped like this forever. Let our hearts find hope and happiness only for each other. Let us have children. Let them be as merciful and brave as you. May they smell like you. Be my most beautiful love story, Elif, let your life intertwine with mine. Elif’im benimle evlenir misin? My Elif, will you marry me?

Elif goes on her knee and replies, I will be your wife. Omer kisses her hand. There is applause and the same varied reactions from the guests. Omer shows her the ring. I don’t have anything precious to give you, he says, except my unconditional love. I swear in front of all our loved ones that you won’t regret saying yes to me. He puts the ring on her finger and kisses her forehead. Applause. Omer lifts her off the ground with one arm and twirls her around. A disgusted Levent leaves the room. Both Nedret and Huseyin look troubled.

How’s this for an abrupt shift—Tayyar and Fatih are skeet shooting. Let’s have a father – son talk about women today, Tayyar says, you’re still seeing Nilufer. Fatih looks surprised. Tayyar continues, you’ve given her a bag. I hope my diamonds aren’t in it. Are you still following me, Fatih asks. I thought you told me that everything has changed and I’m free. Tayyar answers, I’m following you because I have to protect my son from the trouble that is called Omer.

#80 part 2

Fatih says, stop, don’t pretend that you care. You want something from me. If you had been concerned only with me speaking to Omer you would already have slit my throat. It’s something else. What do you want? I want to be a family, son, Tayyar lies, a family. [he left out the part about needing a kidney.]

Fatih responds, then you will walk out proudly and say, “this is my son”, but you can’t. You are not that kind of man. You are going to take what you want from me and leave, right? That’s why you are hiding me from everyone. Let’s go to the hospital if you dare. Show everyone, “this is my eldest son”. I’ve listened to your fairy tales, Tayyar Dundar, my stomach is full now, goodbye. Fatih puts the rifle away and leaves. Tayyar follows.

Elif’s family congratulate her. Pelo joins them. They admire her ring. Melike walks over and comments, we have done it simply and modestly among the family with a very tiny ring, it’s American style and all that. [Asli is irked.] Pelo puts her arm around Melike and asks, are you jealous? Nooo, why would I be jealous, Melike replies, I’m not jealous towards my loved ones. Elif and Omer deserve even better things. May they both be happy always.

Put that happiness on hold for the moment because an ill wind has just blown in from the street. Fatma has arrived. Everyone is stunned. Omer asks Elvan, what is Fatma doing here? We didn’t specifically invite her, so I don’t know, Elvan replies.

Melike rushes over to Fatma. She tries to cover up. Where have you been, Fatma? We’ve been waiting for you. Don’t even try, Fatma answers, we aren’t going anywhere. Asli and Nilu whisper, where did they come from? We’ll be finished if Auntie finds out who they are. Melike invites Fatma and Hatice to sit. Fatma rushes right over to Elif’s family table. She starts whining immediately—Omer Bey has hired musicians, a restaurant and all. Mashallah. Hatice steps in, mom, if you love him even a little, don’t do this.

Huseyin walks in with a cake, unaware of what is happening. Nedret is wondering WTH. Fatma glares at her.

Tayyar and Fatih come to the hospital. Fatih notes, it’s very nice to enter from the front door like a human being. But why are we here? I told you I want to have a family, Tayyar replies, you wouldn’t believe it. You told me I don’t go out in public with you. Here we are. Fatih says, you must be in a very difficult situation. You need me, don’t you? Tayyar says, you’re the same as I was when I was young, especially your sense of humor. Of course I need you…I need my son’s love [aka, kidney.]

Tayyar’s doctor,Batur, rushes over to catch him. Can I have a few minutes? Of course, Tayyar replies, but first let me introduce you to my son, Fatih. Batur is stunned. Fatih looks pleased. Tayyar introduces Batur to Fatih as the chief doc at the hospital. Batur says he didn’t know Tayyar had another son. Fatih interjects—no one knows this. Tayyar explains, it’s a long story. We recently reconciled. Tayyar sends Fatih to his office to wait for him.

Elif and Omer cut their cake and feed each other. Asli tells Nedret, they are getting very serious about this engagement. Fatma calls out—you never did such things for my daughter. You didn’t buy expensive gifts either. Of course, she is a rich girl, he must impress her.

Nedret asks Elvan, is this woman your relative? Elvan stutters, uh… sort of. Fatma rises from her seat, I am not, I couldn’t be her relative. I am Sibel Andaç’s mother, who was murdered right next to Elif’s father. She was Omer’s fiancée. Nedret is astonished.

#80 part 3

Batur tells Tayyar his test results show unbelievable progress. When I want something, I set my mind to it, Tayyar replies. Batur says it’s the perfect time for the operation. Should I start preparations? Tayyar says not in this hospital. Better to have it at the old farm with the necessary arrangements. Batur notes that Fatih looked in good spirits. You seemed to convince him. Not yet, Tayyar answers, but it’s close. He will prolong the life of his father. We will leave the old scores behind.

Fatma wails, my child… we had to give her to the black earth. Her engagement dresses were left on the back of the door. The black earth took my child. I couldn’t get enough of her scent. Elvan tries to calm Fatma. Don’t do this. it’s a shame for you and for the deceased. Fatma continues, I gave a child to the earth, my heart is burning… my soul is burning. Your child is getting engaged!

Omer speaks up—Fatma Abla, that’s shameful. Fatma jumps up and points her finger at Omer. Don’t call me sister! To Elif: Are you going to be happy with this ring? My Sibel’s blood is on this ring! Quick cut to guilty Huseyin. Fatma doesn’t stop. Aren’t you going to be crushed under the weight this? Isn’t your heart going to ache?

Asli asks, what nonsense is this?! What did Elif do wrong? Nedret says she must leave because the unpleasantness will grow bigger if she doesn’t. Asli says she’s leaving too and she takes Nilu with her. Nedret shoots a look at Omer on her way out. Elvan advises Elif to go to with her aunt. Don’t leave her alone. Omer agrees that Elif should leave. Fatma starts wailing again. Now look what has happened to us, Hatice!

Omer stops Elif on the way out. Don’t pour any tears on your face. What can I say? I don’t know how to apologize. She suffered a loss, that’s why she’s so resentful. Elif nods in understanding. Elmer hug and that sets Fatma off again. Hatice tries to calm her mom. Omer tells Elif he’ll call her.

Fatih looks through stuff in Tayyar’s office. He finds Tayyar’s medical report. He hears Tayyar coming and sits back at the desk. Tayyar brings the hospital management board in and introduces them to Fatih. Looks like Fatih realizes what’s up.

Back at the Demir house, Fatma is still carrying on. Now she has a headache. Omer asks to talk. Fatma says she has nothing to say to him. He asks, why are you doing this? What have I done except to support you? What have I done to Sibel? Do you know how much my Sibel loved you, she asks in reply. Whenever she mentioned your name, she was very happy. You talk about Elif even when you mention Sibel.

Huseyin comes in. Enough, already! I wasn’t going to interfere, but it’s gotten to me! You never stop talking! I am a man, but I have my limits. No, no, Fatma exclaims, I just can’t stay here anymore. She tries to get up and faints. Out comes the cologne. Elvan tells Omer he can go, they will take care of Fatma.

Huseyin follows Omer outside. He suggests that they rent a place so Fatma and Hatice can leave. With what money, Omer asks, there’s only enough for one or two month’s rent. We need to establish a system with no financial difficulties. Until then, they will stay here. Huseyin says Omer doesn’t owe them anything. They’ve been entrusted to me, Omer replies. With that Omer leaves.

Elif and family return home and they are greeted by Mert. He gets a cool look from Nedret. Nilu makes the introductions. Nedret asks if he’s a relative of Zerrin. Elif explains that Mert is Uncle Tayyar’s son. He’s staying with us for a few days. He’s staying in Asli’s apartment. I don’t think Nedret is pleased. Nilu changes the subject. She tells Mert that Omer proposed to Elif. Elif flashes her ring and a big smile. Mert gives his congrats. It gets a bit awkward and Mert excuses himself.

#80 part 4

Arda comments to Pelo, this Aunt Nedret seemed a little grumpy to me. Pelo lets go of Arda’s hand as they approach the station. She doesn’t want to enter hand in hand. Enough people know about their relationship anyway.

Pelo gets a phone call from “Ipek”. Arda asks, which one? By the look on Pelo’s face, he realizes this is the “old friend, Ipek”, and it might be a problem. Pelo answers.

Nedret sadly looks at a framed family photo. Elif enters the room. Elif mentions the living situation and that Nilu is the happiest because she has Asli’s apartment now. Nedret is appalled. We can’t allow this. Never! Isn’t that boy sleeping there? Elif explains there are two more bedrooms. Everyone has their own room. Nedret is alarmed—can the gunpowder stay next to the fire? Besides, if you father was alive what would he say?

Elif is at a loss, she never thought about it that way. I know you want to help this boy, Nedret says, you have the best intention. Let him stay in a 5-star hotel and let me pay for it. It’s not convenient for him to stay here. Elif feels bad about this. Nedret is adamant. She will take responsibility. This arrangement is not appropriate.

Pelo gets off the phone. She tells Arda, we’re ruined! Ipek is leaving Bursa. She’s coming here! Oh my God, Arda says, why is she coming? Omer has just recovered… and speaking of Omer, he enters the office. What’s up? Neither one mentions Ipek. Omer heard that Sami is at the station. He came to say goodbye, Arda says, the police commissioner is with him, too. Omer wonders why. Everything has been discovered and the investigation should be over. He has to be appointed back here. Arda says that Sami has been appointed to become the Vice Commissioner in Izmir. Omer looks surprised.

Melike tells Elvan that Fatma is still upset. She cried herself to sleep. Elvan says that Fatma behaved so thoughtlessly. Elif’s aunt is worldly, powerful lady. I don’t want her to come between Omer and Elif. Melike asks, what can we do? Elvan suggests they go and apologize.

Omer asks where is Mahmut? Let’s get him into the interrogation room. I’ll take his statement. Arda stops him. Don’t mess with Mahmut. Omer replies, you don’t expect me to let him get away with how he tortured me and Elif. Arda says let it go. His life is over. I want him to look me right in the eyes, Omer answers.

Sami walks in. Kolay gelsin, he says to all. He looks at Omer. I heard it’s a special day for you. I thought you wouldn’t be here. Omer notes that the investigation continues. Sami says, let’s not get into emotional conversations. In the end, I’m leaving with my head held high thanks to you. You made short work of that DA. Well done. But I couldn’t stop you from leaving, Omer says. I told you, Sami replies, I’m leaving with my head held high. A job well done. They understand that they were in the wrong and that’s all that matters. Yes, the truth came out, Arda says pointedly at Sami. Sami understands he’s referring to Pelo.

Sami turns to Pelo. I’ve come to apologize. My girl, what do you think… will you ever be able to forgive your old chief? Pelo smiles and replies, estağfurullah. Sami says, no matter how experienced you may be, one can still make mistakes. This is something that I actually learned from you. I’ll take this lesson and put it in my pocket. Sami hold out his hand to Pelo—hakkinizi helal edin (give me your blessing/forgive). Helal olsun, Pelo replies and takes Sami’s hand. [Now the slate is clean between them.] Sami goes to Arda. Take care of yourself. I entrust the city to you. May your path be open, Arda replies.

#80 part 5

Omer looks at Sami. How can I say goodbye? You are my support in the organization, my teacher. You were always by my side, you believed in me, trusted me. Thank you. Even if I am in Izmir, Sami replies, I will still be by your side, my son. I’m leaving, but my eyes and ears are here. He motions to Omer, come, I have some things to tell you. Omer leaves with Sami.

Pelo tells Arda, it feels like everything is slowly falling into place… like we’re coming to the end of something. You aren’t suspecting Huseyin anymore, are you? I wish that was the case, Arda replies, but I cannot silence my brain. That secret meeting between Chief Ali and Huseyin, then Ali’s defense in your case. We never heard the name of the secret witness. And there was Nevin, when she looked at Huseyin’s photo. Pelo walks out on Arda.

Outside the station, Sami tells Omer, saying goodbye has always been very difficult for me. Anyway, before I leave, I want to give you some good news. I was with the police commissioner the other day. He said they were really impressed with your work uncovering the human rights violations in the department and the operation in Rome. So they made you a Chief Inspector (başkomiser).

Chief inspector? Yes, Sami confirms, congratulations, Chief Inspector! I’m entrusting my work in the Financial Branch to you and you’re going to take down that Tayyar bastard. Hayırlı olsun. The men hug. I’ll bring him down, sir, Omer replies, don’t doubt that.

Huseyin secretly meets with Ali. They discuss Omer’s marriage proposal. I hope his happiness won’t affect us too badly, Ali says, Tayyar will go crazy when he hears this. Huseyin says he’s got it under control. Don’t do anything. I’ll handle it. Tayyar’s van arrives. Tell me, he asks, what happened after Elif was released? The lovers reunited, Ali says. Huseyin adds, Omer has forgotten everything since he’s been involved with Elif. It happened like I said it would. Are you sure, Tayyar asks, he won’t pursue me anymore? Huseyin says no.

Tayyar continues, I believe in you, Huseyin, but I don’t feel comfortable at all. It feels like I’ve made the biggest mistake of my life by siding with someone like you, someone with an arabesque personality. Huseyin tells Tayyar, this isn’t your first mistake. Aren’t we both the same? It’s not anyone’s first mistake, Tayyar replies, but don’t forget your limits. My glass is about to overflow. I can hardly control myself. Watch your step and control your brother.

Nedret has asked Mert to come see her. Elif is also present. Nedret asks Mert to sit. Asli and NIlu come into the room, too. She begins, dear Mert, my nieces consider you a brother, they fully support you. I think they are right because in our family, helping the unfortunate is a duty. They told me about your situation. I agree that it is difficult, but hasn’t this gone on too long?

kpa
#80 part 6

Mert says, I haven’t finished my schooling yet. Okay, Nedret replies, but that doesn’t mean you can expect others to help you. Look around, my son, there are plenty of people who study and work at the same time. Life is very hard, you must learn to stand on your own. Look at my nieces, they don’t have a mother or father, but they live on their own without anyone’s support. Now I look at you, a strong, healthy, capable man. Do you know where I’m going with this?

Poor Mert looks dejected. I see, he replies. Don’t worry. I’ll pack my belongings and leave immediately. Nedret says, please don’t see us as heartless. Go pack, call the driver. He’ll take you to the hotel and you’ll stay there until you find yourself a permanent place to stay. However, it’s not a gift. When you get on your own two feet, you will pay back the debt. Mert nods. He looks totally humiliated.

Pelin has bought celebratory baklava for Omer. Arda teases Omer about letting Pelo buy it. Pelo says she didn’t mind. Omer spent a lot on the proposal. He doesn’t have much money. Omer says wait till payday and he will take them out to a good place. Tolga comes in to give Omer congratulations. Huseyin walks in. My brother became a Chief Inspector! The brothers hug.

Ali enters the room and congratulates Omer. He turns down the offer of baklava. Huseyin tells Ali, did you notice that the student became the master? Ali gives a weak smile.

An officer comes to tell Omer that Mahmut has been taken to the interrogation room. Omer heads out. Huseyin tells Arda not to let Omer do anything crazy. Pelin leaves to distribute the baklava to the others on shift.

Ali tells Huseyin, the others will be happy, while we are becoming unhappy. So, tell me Huseyin, are you going to give the latest news to Tayyar or should I tell him? You know how crazy he can be.

And we are out.

I was so happy not seeing Bahar or Fatma for awhile. Oops, they were here! Levent also left asap. Bitter Aunt Nedret is a force to be reckoned with, I’m afraid. Omer singing was nice. Is there anything he can’t do?

The blending of social and cultural norms is setting up to be challenging.

Fatma is such a pill. I have to give the actress credit for playing her so well. She seems real! What a miserable person. I feel for Hatice.

Love all the Turkish words and music. Thank you, Dondi!

KPA

Thanks, Dondi! Another gem!

So, it was an engagement party and not a wedding... that's slightly better. As crazy as Omer is, I really thought he was going to marry Elif right then and there! Didn't his letter that never got delivered say exactly that?

It's weird that Levent was at the engagement party, but Mert wasn't...

Fatma is a pill and a half! Omer is a saint to take responsibility for her, he should kick her to the curb! At the very least for a few days/weeks. Let her go out on her own and figure it out and then if he wants to take pity on her come to her and ask if she's ready to shut her mouth and be grateful!

Just a heads up the recap will probably be posted a little bit later than usual tonight. I have a hair appointment today that had to be rescheduled from earlier in the week so I won’t be home until late afternoon.

KPA 81 part 1 of 4

Faith is back at home and he still has a copy of Tayyar’s medical record. Unfortunately, I don’t speak medical Spanish, so I am not sure if it straight out says the diagnosis. Faith looks confused and he pulls out his phone and for a second, I thought he was going to google it like I would have; but he doesn’t, he calls Tayyar. When Tayyar answers he greets him as Papa and much is said about this change. Faith says he’s getting used to it and asks if Tayyar is done (with something). Tayyar says yes, why are you going to invite me over for dinner. Faith says dinner sounds like a great idea but they’d like to be invited to Tayyar’s house with Pinar and Mert, you know since they are all one big family! Tayyar assures Faith that he’s always welcome in his home and he says great, see you there.

Elvan and Melike arrive at Elif’s house and Melike heads straight to the kitchen to prepare something…. Demet will arrive soon to help. Elvan asks Elif if she can speak to her Tia alone and Elif says of course, though she looks uncomfortable. The girls leave the matrons alone to chat and wait anxiously in the hall. Elvan apologizes for Fatma saying she was out of line and she shouldn’t have acted the way she did. (I really don’t understand why Elif is sent away for this, she’s the one who’s owed the apology) Tia is very gracious and says all the right things but the kindness of her words doesn’t exactly match the rebuke in her face.

The sisters are pacing outside the closed doors where Elvan and Tia are talking but Nilu and Asli soon decide they have less stressful things to do. Elif looks down at her ring with a smile and decides she does too! She calls Omer and he answers teasing her about not being able to go a minute without him. She says that’s not it, but shouldn’t she be able to call her future husband? He says she can call him whenever she wants. She tells him that his mother is there and he says that she’s probably upset about Fatma and there to apologize. Elif very wisely asks what that has to do with Elvan. She didn’t invite her and has no control over what she says. Omer says he is responsible for those ladies (eyes rolling). Elif rather comically says this visit will make the engagement more real because the ladies will start talking about their marriage. Omer says he’s very serious about their marriage, isn’t she? This starts off some teasing about how Elif was actually going to say no to the proposal but she didn’t want to embarrass Omer in front of all those people. Omer says his ring is on her finger now and Elif sighs and says she guesses she has no choice. Arda comes up behind Omer and he tells Elif he has to go. Elif isn’t happy to realize that Omer is at the station – so much for thinking he was going to slow down and recover. Omer tells Elif about his promotion and she’s excited for him until the genius goes and tells her that he's going to bring down Tayyar and Faith BEFORE they get married!!! So much for I’m going to marry you the day you get released from jail, right?

After Omer hangs up, he jokes happily with Arda about the upcoming wedding with no clue that he just shook his fiancé up. Arda is going to be the best man and the witness I think… Omer was embarrassed to ask because every time in the past that he thought he’d found true love he was oh so wrong, but so time he’s sure Elif is the love of his life! And we aren’t just talking about Sibel, we are also talking about the one before her who’s name Omer can’t even stand to her without getting mad…. who is, you guessed it the very same Ibez who called Pelo a couple episodes go!

Omer and Arda go in to interrogate what’s his name and the first thing Omer does is hit him in the face again!!! And I’m here for it! That’s for all the horrible hours he put Elif through! Bam! Now, he can sit down and tell them about Tayyar.

KPA 81 part 2 of 4

Elvan and Tia are indeed talking about the engagement and it’s not going well. Tia is very cagey! When Elvan is talking about coming by to do something for Elif in celebration of one of their traditions, Tia says who cares about traditions? Young people don’t! They do whatever they want. But when Elvan insists on following traditions to show the new generations the value of them Tia lists off a whole list of expensive items that it’s ‘tradition’ for the groom to buy the novia where they come from. Yeah, I think it’s safe to say Tia isn’t a fan of this engagement. She also had a few key words to say about the tough times Elif had at Omer’s side.

Meanwhile in the kitchen, Melike is ordering Julia around like quite rudely as if she enjoys having a servant for an hour and Demet takes off to sneak around the house again. I’m not sure if she was looking for something to steal or Mert this time, but she was caught by a maid who looked suspicious and she pretended to be looking for the bathroom. By the time everyone was sitting down to eat, it was mentioned that Demet left to meet up with friends. The meal or snack of whatever is short and tense as Asli insults Melike’s cooking and Elvan is clearly upset. Elif tries to play peacemaker but Elvan claims they have to go. Elif wants them to stay saying Omer can come for them later and eat as well but Tia claims perhaps they have some shopping to do! (LOL) Afterall, weddings are a lot of work. The ladies get up to leave and Tia asks about their car, Melike informs her they took two buses to get there and Tia offers them the driver but Elvan refuses. After the ladies leave, Elif says Elvan looked upset and asks Tia if anything was wrong but she plays dumb. Asli says she always looks like that! (LOL again)

As they are leaving, Melike complains about waiting for the bus and asks why they didn’t accept the offer of the car but Elvan says they aren’t parasites and they’ll go back the way they came! Melike sighs and follows.

Fatih and mom show up to dad’s house for dinner. Why would this woman volunteer to have dinner at the home of the man who treated her so badly under any circumstances? Tayyar greets them and they enter. Faith sees Pinar at the table and introduces himself saying this is the first of many family dinners they will have. Pinar startles at the name and remembers Omer mentioning it to her. We flashback to their conversation; she tries to maintain her composure and greets Fatih and mom warmly enough but Fatih senses her discomfort. He also notices her pregnancy and gets on to Tayyar for not telling him that he’s going to have another sibling. Tayyar claims he hasn’t had the right moment to tell him yet and Fatih says he’s just a box full of surprises. Tayyar acknowledges this is true.

Tia is introducing a ‘Tea to sleep better’ to the girls and explaining how they will wake with more energy. Nilu doesn’t like it but Asli loves the taste! LOL Asli is very glad that her aunt came to see them she has made them so happy and Nilu thought she had gone to Europe! Asli gives her a big hug and Nilu gets very uncomfortable… she quickly mumbles how she must have misunderstood. Tia gives her a quick look but says no, you didn’t misunderstand. I went but when I heard about Elif’s troubles I returned. This satisfies Asli who is off to bed. Nilu goes to follow suit and Tia reminds her to take her tea. Just when we think Nilu is about to get away with this, Tia calls out ‘Nilu, where did you get all that money?’ Busted!

KPA 81 part 3 of 4

Elif and Omer are walking and arguing over how well Omer is taking care of his arm. He’s taking his meds but he’s clearly not following all instructions. This turns into a conversation about their overall fears about their future. They can’t stand to be apart but they are also worried about Tayyar not leaving them alone. Or at least Elif is worried, Omer still wants to bring him down. It’s the same argument again. Broken up by Arda and Pelo arriving. Looks like this is a double date but they might need a venue change because Arda wasn’t thinking about Omer’s arm when he planned this and Omer isn’t going to be able to play pool. Omer says no problem, Elif can play for him but Elif says she’s never played in her life!

Elvan is outside thinking had when Huseyin arrives and thinks it must be bad news since mom always waited outside like that when she had bad news. Elvan tells Huseyin what happened with Elif’s Tia. Elvan doesn’t know what to do. How will they buy all that stuff? Huseyin says don’t worry? He’s going to pay for it! He has that money and it’s his responsibility being Omer’s second dad. (I mean they could tell snobby Tia to go fly a kite) Elvan says what if Demet needs it later but Huseyin can always get more money, shady cops have their ways! He didn’t share that last part. Elvan feels better, after all they have to do what they have to do since Elif is the daughter of a rich man. They go inside and get out of the cold.

Nilu tells Tia the truth about Fatih and the money and begs her not to tell Elif because she would be so mad. Tia said they are all really so totally lost! Big sighs. We’ll see how we are going to resolve all of this. She wishes her niece good night and leaves Nilu to stew.

The double date is off and running and at first Elif is frustrated by her lack of ability to hit the ball but then she sees the plus side of having Omer all snuggled up to her showing her how to hit the ball! They lean in super close and linger very long before Omer helps guide the cue and the ball goes in. Arda tries to ‘help’ Pelo with her shot as well but she doesn’t allow it even though she seems mildly amused. She hits him in the stomach with the cue stick and then scratches which he laughs at her for. Arda is next and he misses too. Omer asks where his talent is but he says he never claimed to have talent. Arda’s phone rings and it’s his ex but when Pelo asks, he says it’s the bank. At this hour? She’s skeptical.

Still at dad’s, Fatih pretends to go to the bathroom. What is he really looking for? What he finds is dad’s old in-home hospital room. This one has a medical report that does mention needing a transplant!! Fatih knew it! But he’s also caught, and injected with something from behind.

Pool is over and Elif and Omer are walking on the waterfront and eating something that burnt Elif’s hand. Omer kisses it and makes it better. Elif wants to know what happened to the plan to kidnap her and take her off on a vacation? Oh, says Omer, she has my ring on her finger and now she wants to control me. Elif says you promised me so I’m just asking. Omer says they will go but he’s trying to be respectful of her aunt. He doesn’t think she’d appreciate him taking off with Elif. Elif says that’s true, her aunt can be very old fashioned. They then discuss who is the most excited about the engagement and Elif teases Omer about having trembling hands but he says he has the steady hands of a policeman. All their teasing ends in sweet kisses with the beautiful water in the background.

KPA 81 part 4 of 4

The next day, Omer enters the house and says he wants to go to the bank and get some money because the tonight’s events are going to cost a lot of money but Huseyin says they already took care of it! Omer wants to ask questions but Huseyin blows him off and distracts everyone by announcing Omer’s promotion! Melike and Elvan are thrilled.

Fatih is unconscious in a hospital bed… must be transplant time. Daddy Tayyar arrives and asks how he is. He’s fine, sedated. The doctor is ready for the operation but Tayyar needs to take Fatih’s mom home first or she’ll cause problems.

Pelo walks out of her house and finds Arda waiting with flowers and coffee. Pelo smiles and asks if he’s planning to do this every morning. Arda says if she moved in with him, he could save gas money. Pelo scoffs they just started dating, it’s too soon for that. Arda opens her door and helps her in, she smiles and he goes around to his side. The couple drives off before they can see Cigdem and her mother arriving upon the scene and Cigdem is upset. Mom doesn’t understand why all her daughter does is cry over Arda, if she loves him so much why did she agree to divorce him? Cigdem thought she could win him back by making him see what he lost. Well, you can see his regret, mom says. If you want him back, tell him you’re pregnant! (Darcy rolls eyes!) Tell him you didn’t realize you were pregnant until after the divorce, he’ll come back. Pelo will back off, then you sleep with your husband and get pregnant for real and everything will be fine. Cigdem thinks hard.

Huseyin meets with Tayyar who’s angry because Omer is still following him. This didn’t really make sense to me because I can’t think of a new move that Omer has made toward Tayyar (maybe the interrogation of Megmet, but they had to figure he was going to ask him about Tayyar when they framed that guy?) but Huseyin tries to assure Tayyar that everything will go according to plan. Omer will get distracted with the wedding and the surgery. It turns out Tayyar has a problem with that too, he’s never going to allow Omer to marry Elif!

Great summaries from Dondi and Darcy! I thought things were sort of winding up for awhile. Maybe we are starting season 2 about now? Anyway, no such luck with things being all smooth and easy. Bitter Aunt Nedret, Tayyar and Husseyn, and even Arda’s ex are all hanging around. Elif and Omer seem totally devoted, but something must be going to shake things up. Lots of social class challenges. Fatma is a mess. Asli is on a roll. Fatih may not survive. If he does, which path will he choose. We have Bahar and Levent again, too. I guess there’s lots more to come.

Thank you for finishing up another great kpa weekend!
