This is a reposting of a comment I made on the previous page. It’s for Dondi, mainly, and I’m not sure she saw it.
Dondi,
After you gave the translation of the Turkish opening theme, I went back and watched it. It was much more impactante knowing the sad words. I also noticed the fascinating juxtaposition of the photography in the opening credits. Pictures were upside down to one another, and large spaces separated people and places. Things felt upside down, inside out, off kilter. I felt off-balance just looking at the beautiful but inside-out seeming images. I wonder if that is intended to show Alya’s impressions or maybe the inside-out feeling of the location or the whole story. It is fascinating to watch ( and listen to).
The version we see in Spanish leaves out this effect in the opening credits.
Babachita
Just a quickie.
Ugur is BSC. He wants Alya to leave with him. Sada keeps daring him to shoot her. [Could we be that lucky?] Was there ever a doubt? Cihan arrives and shoots the gun out of Ugur’s hand. But he escapes.
Hasan is banished for helping Sada find Ugur. Cihan doesn’t give Sada enough of a tongue lashing to suit me. And, yes, it’s all Alya’s fault. Sada also starts in on kicking Fiko out. Cihan says she stays.
Mine calls, pretending to just ask how Cihan is. He puts it on speaker for Alya to hear. He tells her to stop calling.’
Fiko asks Alya about how Boran died. She also has been trying to remember Halis’s surname. [I love how they’ve softened her makeup. She arrived looking SO cheap.]
Nare tells Alya about she and Sahin seeing each other. Alya smiles and says she'll help. Nare rides to the hospital with Alya. Of course, the gargoyle asks where they’re going. Demir is upset because his guys can’t find Ugur.
Ozkan calls Sada when Nare won’t pick up. Then, of course, he sees her leave the hospital in a taxi, follows, and sees her meeting Sahin. We get a moment’s joy for these two as they embrace. Ozkan calls Sada, who shows up with some henchies. She says Nare is going with Ozkan. She slaps Nare and behaves like a fishwife. Nare leaves with Sahin.
Sada calls Cihan. Sahin takes Nare to his konak, and we get some more fishwife behavior, this time from Fidan. Sada comes to Sahin’s place and orders everyone around. She’s having the door broken down when Cihan arrives. I enjoy this show, but Sadakat’s outrageous behavior and Cihan intervening are wearing on me. For some reason Demir and Zerrin show up.
Inside, Cihan tells Sahin and Nare he’s working on her divorce, and Nare is convinced to return to Hell, aka the place where Sada rules. Ecmel rags on Sahin, saying over his dead body. [Please let it happen, writers.]
We get a nice cultural moment for Deniz’s circumcision ceremony. Alya and Cihan have a moment. She even holds his hand. But Mine shows up. Cihan keeps telling her to leave. She says something about his forcing Alya to marry him. And someday he’ll come to her.
We get some group photos. Sada insists on one with just she, Cihan and Deniz. She won’t be in the same photo as Fiko, but Cihan has one taken with Fiko and the rest of the family.
Mine meets with her gyno. She wants her pregnancy kept a secret. If I grasped what she wants, she is holding on to find out the sex. It must be a boy, she says. And, I suppose, if it’s a girl, she’ll abort since she asked about the timing for that being safe.
Ugur shows up at Mine’s. She bandages his hand. He asks her to get him out of the country. If she does, he’ll give her a key to his hospital locker where, I assume, he’s got something stashed about Boran’s parentage.
Howdy from the Alamo City CarayCaray Family. Congratulations to the Indiana Hoosiers Football Team on winning their 1st National Championship.
Thank you so much novelera!
How did Ugur get away? It’s not like the henchies to not be able to catch him up.
Mine showing up was just plain weird. Cihan has treated her abominably but no means no. I don’t get in TNs how characters pursue others who are not only uninterested but actually hostile.
Maggie
Thanks for the quickie, novelera. Loved the asides. I also love your gargoyle description for Sada. Nare was warned to stay away from Sahin. What made them think they could get away with this?
Babachita, thanks for reposting your comment. I noticed this about the original opening, too. The opening we get gives a totally different impression especially since it’s paired with “Me Está Doliendo”. They are trying to push a love story as the main theme. There’s so much more to this dizi.
We got seriously shortchanged again. They left out 95% of the circumcision storyline. My Friday recap mentioned that there was a commotion over Deniz not being circumcised. It was interesting because we saw the difference between secular and traditional/religious. Alya thought that she could get away with bringing Deniz to the hospital for a quick procedure. Not so. Cihan had to explain to her later. Add Sada into the mix and you get the picture. Ay, what a scandal.
Later in the episode, Deniz came running into Alya’s bedroom in a panic. He overheard the staff discussing the prep for the sünnet düğünü and he got scared. He locked himself in Cihan’s side of the bedroom and refused to come out. Cihan coaxed him to open the door so they could have a man-to-man talk. The boy asked Cihan if he was circumcised and if all the other males at the konak were too. Cihan said yes and told him it is an important event in their religion and tradition. And the deal was sealed when Cihan told him he would ride a horse and he’d see Firfir.
They cut Deniz getting dressed and leaving the konak. Firfir was waiting outside and Deniz sat on him for a few photos. Then Cihan put him on a big horse and there was a procession through the village with a drummer leading the way and all the guests following and clapping to the beat. They passed by the mass sünnet held for the other boys.
We didn’t see any of the party at the Albora konak. Food, music, dancing. Cihan persuaded Alya to get up and dance with him. They danced the Reyhani (Mardin folk dance) in the center of a circle. If you saw Hercai, ReyMir did this dance at their wedding. It was nice to see Cihan and Alya smiling for once. Didn't last long.
Oh wow, Dondi, we got ripped off! I would love to have seen all this. Also, I couldn’t imagine that a little boy wouldn’t be scared.
I hope he did the horse sitting before the procedure!
Maggie
Dondi, thanks for filling in what Telemundo didn't think important about the circumcision celebration. The conversation (was it Friday?) about the Alboras sponsoring some sort of mass circumcision sent me once again to the internet. My son, decades ago, was circumcised in the operating room right after he was born. I can't remember for sure, but I don't think they even asked me. It was automatic. And this was also before you looked at the kid before birth in images. I knew he was a boy when the gyno called that out right as he appeared. Somehow, the quote for his birth included a line item of an extra charge should the child be born male. Fortunately, his father had terrific employer paid health insurance, so we paid nada.
But what I read said that, in Turkey, the boys are usually circumcised between the ages of 6 and 11. If that's true, why would Sadakat be outraged that a boy who is 5 hasn't had it done? I think it may be not as prevalent here in the U.S. as it used to be. The man who was my boss in the 90's and his wife did not have their sons circumcised.
Novelera, thank you. You didn't miss a beat . There are a lot of rinse and repeat moments in this show. Character responses are pretty predictable . I am wondering what the end result of this show is going to be . I can't see any HEAs unless all the star crossed lovers leave this land that time forgot . Susan
Susan, dondi has mentioned that there is another season of this in Turkey, and we are in ultimas semanas, I believe. So we probably won't get everything resolved. And, if the show is still on in Turkey, I wonder if Telemundo would want to wait until it finishes up to show it, if they show it at all.
Novelera, Susan, Dondi356: I believe this upcoming Telenovela is supposed to be replacing "LEJOS" on the 9:00 PM CST timeslot beginning on February 17th.

Episode 59 #1
El abandono tiene un motivo – There was a reason for the abandonment
Ugur and Mine at Mine’s apartment
Mine: You know something that scares Cihan. Whatever it is, you’re a danger to him. Tell me what it is.
Ugur, showing her a key: I’ll tell you if you help me. Help me leave the country. If you manage to do what I ask, this key will show you why Cihan’s after me.
Mine: What is that key to?
Ugur: The hospital.
Mine tries to take the key, and Ugur says: First help me cross the border and then I’ll tell you what the key opens. You’ll also understand why Cihan is so scared.
Mine thinks for a while.
At the Albora konak
Alya and Cihan tell Deniz to lie down and rest after the circumcision ceremony. The decorations and balloons are still up.
Deniz: Dad, I love you very much.
Cihan is very impactado. He strokes Deniz’ forehead: I love you very much, too.
Deniz: Mom, I love you very much, too.
Alya: But I love you more, darling.
Deniz: Do you love Mom too much, too?
Cihan and Alya look at one another.
Alya: Get some sleep, Deniz.
Deniz: Did I say something wrong? Why are you mad?
Alya: Because you’re tired. Get some sleep.
Cihan: He didn’t say anything wrong. Cihan, I love everyone in this house. Everyone. I love my whole family. Now it’s time to sleep.
Deniz is rubbing his eyes and very sleepy: Good night, Mom, good night, Dad.
Alya tells Cihan she will stay with Deniz that night. She also thanks Cihan very much for the beautiful day: Deniz formed memories that he’ll never forget. Neither will I.
Cihan: I think the same. I hope that in the future, these aren’t the only happy moments I have to remember.
Alya: Cihan,
Cihan: Good night.
Nare is readying for the day when her phone rings. She smiles seeing that it’s Sahin.
Sahin: How are you, Nare?
Nare: Sahin, I’m fine. How’s it going?
We see Fidan drawing near to Sahin without him knowing it.
Sahin: How am I going to see you now?
Nare: It’ll be hard before I get divorced.
Sahin: I’m out of patience. I’m going to kill that guy.
Nare: Stop talking like that, Sahin. You’re scaring me.
Fidan has gone inside and calls…Sadakat!
Sadakat: Why are you calling me? What’s happening?
Fidan: Because I missed you, Sadakat. [I laughed out loud at this!] I’m not calling for fun. Listen to me. Your daughter is talking to my son again.
Sadakat: What do you mean?
Babachita
Episode 59 #2
Fidan: I’m calling to warn you that if that married woman comes to my home, I’ll have to do something.
Sadakat: Don’t talk to me like that. Watch your mouth. My daughter will never go to your house. Your filthy, perverted son kidnapped my daughter. Raise your son the right way before talking to me, you shameless wretch.
Fidan: You’re the one who’s… (She sees that Sadakat has ended the call, but finishes): The shameless wretch is you, Sadakat.
Continuation of the phone call between Nare and Sihan
Nare: Swear you’ll control yourself until I’m divorced.
Sahin thinks for a bit, and Nare’s door is flung open by, who else, Sadakat: What do you think you’re doing?
Mother and daughter tussle over the phone, and Sadakat finally throws it to the ground, and stomps on it to break it.
Sadakat: Take your dam phone.
Nare: Have you lost your mind?
Cihan and Kaya enter the room, followed by Alya, hearing all the noise.
Cihan: Mom, what’s going on?
Sadakat: Nare’s not getting another phone. You’ll never set foot outside the konak again.
All three kids start yelling at Sadakat. Cihan tries to calm Nare down.
Kaya: What is all this about?
Sadakat: She was talking to Sahin. Fidan just called me. She told me to teach you what’s right, and that’s what I’m going to do. I was humiliated. I’m ashamed to be your mother. You are a married woman!
Cihan: Is that true?
Nare: He called me, Cihan.
Sadakat: If he calls, don’t answer it. He’s a man, of course he’ll call. But you’re the one who decides. You’re a married woman and you can’t talk to him.
Kaya: That’s enough, let’s go outside.
Sadakat: Don’t tell me what to do. Don’t do it again. Don’t say anything because this is all your fault. You’re responsible for this happening, Cihan. You brought this woman here.
Cihan: It’s her house, Mom.
Sadakat: I told you not to bring this woman to the konak without considering the consequences, but you did. You gave Sahin that land and look what’s happened. He mustered up the courage to kidnap my daughter. And now he’s calling her. It’s your fault and hers too, (pointing at Alya). Ugur is roaming the streets Allah knows where because of your wife and we can’t find him. Plus, she brought her mother of ill repute to the mansion. You caused all of this.
Kaya: Calm down, Mom.
Sadakat: Cihan Albora, an Albora doesn’t tolerate these things. When leaders tolerate disorder, they’re replaced immediately. Be careful, Cihan.
Cihan stares at Sadakat. Finally, she leaves the room, followed by Kaya.
Cihan, Alya, and Nare remain in the room.
Nare: I’m sorry, brother. I’m really sorry. Forgive me.
He leaves without saying a word.
In his room, he looks beaten down and sighs deeply.
Alya comes to him: I wish I could help you somehow.
Cihan: You made a tasty soup for Cihan. If you make it again, save me some.
Alya grins and nods: You’re doing the right thing, you really are.
Cihan: Sometimes doing the right thing isn’t enough. If you want to run the show, you have to be merciless.
They both think a bit. He asks how Deniz is doing. Alya tells him he is doing fine. He is excited about the kite festival.
Cihan: We’re going to go.
Another long sigh.
Cihan: I’m going out and can give you a ride if you’re going to the hospital.
Alya agrees and says she will see Deniz later.

Episode 59 #3
At the Baybars konak, Demir is having his bandages replaced when his phone rings.
Demir: What now?
His henchies are reporting: Ugur’s car was found in Gelinkaya in Albora. Ugur wasn’t inside. They are still looking for him.
Demir: OK. You look for him, too.
The doctor (I think) tells him he will be back tomorrow to check on him and reminds him to take his meds.
Demir: Fine, fine.
A knock on the door, and another henchie approaches: Fikriye Gurdel was a showgirl who worked all over Istanbul.
Demir: Interesting. Nice, Ms. Alya. You’re an exemplary, surprising mother. (He chuckles.)
Get ready, Cihan Albora. The rematch for the hospital is approaching.
A crowd has formed on a street. Cihan, Kaya, Alya, and henchies are giving out food and gifts to local kids.
One says: This is fine, Ms. Lady of the Konak. Thank you.
Alya: You’re welcome, but don’t call me lady of the konak. Just Alya or Ms. Alya.
A man responds: It wouldn’t be appropriate for us. You are the lady of the konak.
Gifts and food continue to be given out.
A car drives up and a bearded fellow gets out: Congratulations, lady of the Konak.
Cihan: Stop, Feyzo. (I don’t recall who Feyzo is, but Cihan doesn’t like him there. He tells Alya to get in the car.)
Feyzo and three henchies approaches: Why are you angry, Cihan. I wanted to ask about the lady of the konak (referring, I think, to Fiko). People talk.
Kaya tries to get Alya in the car, but she hears this, then turns and says: Wait. What did you say?
They finally get Alya out of the way, and Cihan hits Feyzo with a vicious slap. He pulls his gun, but Muzaffer restrains him.
Cihan: I could kill you right now, idiot. What do you care about her mother?
He struggles to get free from Muzaffer.
Cihan tells Feyzo: Worry about your own mother. He keeps yelling, while Muzaffer tries to restrain him.
Get out of here!
Muzaffer tells him this isn’t the time. Cihan kicks a basket as they lead him to their car. Cihan: I hate those bastards.
Demir, of course, is watching this with glee, and now we know who Feyzo works for.
Back at the Albora konak
Alya gets out of the vehicle and is visibly upset. This cheers up Sadakat: You humiliated yourself. I curse the day you showed up here. And, as if that weren’t enough, you brought your mother. That dirty woman has brought shame upon all of us, all of the Alboras. (Nare tries to restrain her without success). That woman must leave, you hear me? She must leave.
Nare: Enough, Mom.
Alya now runs up the stairs.
Sadakat: Let go of me. I can’t believe what kind of woman she is, and don’t tell me to stop. All of this happened because you asked me to keep quiet. As if that weren’t enough you brought that woman.
Cihan: Mom, calm down. Please stop shouting.
Sadakat: I told you not to let that woman in. She’s not staying forever. We’re a laughingstock all over Albora. That woman must leave.
Alya finally can’t take it anymore: Stop, enough! If she goes anywhere, it’ll be me taking her. You’re not throwing her out. Let me through.

Episode 59 #4
Alya walks away, followed by Cihan.
They go in and find Fiko in bad shape, vomiting, with Ummu and Pakize helping her. Cihan helps them and tells Alya she needs to go to the hospital.
Fiko: I don’t want to go to a hospital.
Cihan: You need medical attention, ma’am.
Fiko: Please, I beg you.
Doctor Alya finally appears (she switches to doctor mode). She says Fiko has a fever, probably from the chemotherapy. She starts giving orders about lemon water. She tries to get a blue pill down.
Sadakat comes stomping in: Why is that woman still…?
She finally realizes that Fiko is very ill. She looks at Cihan who stares back.
Sadakat is actually at a loss for words. She goes to leave the room.
Nare asks Alya if there is anything she can do. Alya says no thanks. Nare leaves, telling Cihan and Alya to call her if they need her.
[The actress playing Fiko is so convincing!!!].
Fiko finally is calm, but she looks very weak.
Alya: Are you feeling better?
Fiko reaches out and holds Alya’s arm: Yes, better.
Alya drops her hand and leaves the room. Outside, she and Cihan talk.
Cihan: If you ask me, she should stay.
Alya: How can you think that? Haven’t you seen what we’ve been through? Your mother would never allow it.
Cihan: My mother saw your mother in the room. She won’t tell her to leave in that condition. I won’t let her.
Alya: I feel terrible. I’m sad that I have to always go through stuff like this. And you’re caught up in it, too. I feel bad for you. And I feel bad for her. This is awful. Just awful.
Cihan reaches out for Alya’s forearm: It’ll all be fine.
Later, Cihan gives Nare a phone: Don’t call Sahin.
Nare and Kaya smile at each other.
Cihan: Look, I know you. You’ll find a way to call him but listen carefully. What you’re doing is wrong, Nare. Don’t do anything before getting divorced.
She smiles and nods.
She heads up to take care of Deniz.
Cihan to Kaya: Be quiet and get up. We’re going to the office.
We see Ozkan and Cihan outside the Albora office.
Cihan: Welcome, Ozkan.
Ozkan: Why am I here?
Cihan: I’m trying to speak to you in a civilized manner. Don’t try my patience, Ozkan. I’m warning you.
They sit at the outside table.
Cihan: You’re going to divorce Nare.
Ozkan: No.
Cihan looks very grim and walks close to Ozkan’s ear: Are you sure?
Ozkan: Is this a threat?
Cihan: What do you think?
Ozkan thinks.

Episode 59 #5
At the Midyat prison.
Ecmel is dialing on the wall phone. He tells whoever answers: What’s going on? You said it was urgent that I call.
It’s Ozkan: Yes, because this situation concerns you too.
Ecmel: What’s going on?
Ozkan: Sahin’s waiting for me to divorce Nare and Cihan just threatened me. What I’m trying to say is that if I lose to Cihan and I divorce Nare, your son will take her. You don’t want that happening, do you? Was I right in calling you?
Ecmel: You were. I’ll tell you what you have to do….
(Of course, we don’t get to hear what that is!)
Cihan and Erol are meeting at the same outdoor office table.
We searched the area but didn’t find Ugur. He couldn’t have gotten far. We think he’s hiding nearby.
Cihan: Have the guys investigate the vehicles along the border.
Erol agrees.
Cihan: Fikreye Gurdel. Investigate that name as much as you can. Even the slightest of details.
Erol: You’ll have it tonight.
Cihan: It’s important.
At Demir’s konak
Demir: Ozkan, welcome.
We can see that Zerrin can hear them from up above. [These konaks have lots of levels and hidey holes, perfect for such a tale.]
Demir: Sometimes your brain works.
Just then, Zerrin’s phone rings loudly.
Demir looks up, and she leaves the balcony wall to answer the phone.
It’s Sahin: How are you Zerrin?
Zerrin: Fine, just fine.
Sahin: You don’t sound it. What happened. Demir hurt you, didn’t he?
Zerrin: I’m fine, and don’t worry, he didn’t touch me.
Demir, who has joined her on the balcony, reaches out and takes her phone without hanging up.
Demir: Hello, Sahin! (Zerrin tries to take back her phone without luck.) Zerrin is fine, friend. Don’t worry. We have a guest with us. Ozkan is here.
Zerrin keeps trying to take the phone. She is angry.
Demir tells Zerrin to behave herself.
Sahin: What the hell are you saying?
Demir: He doesn’t want to get divorced. He values his life, so he asked your father for help. It’ll be my pleasure to help him out, too.
He gives Zerrin the phone back. She calls him an idiot.
Sahin hears all this and hangs up, heading down the stairs to leave.
Zerrin to Demir: Why are you such a jerk? I regret not plunging that knife into your heart.
Demir: You’re not that lucky, Zerrin.
He walks off, leaving her scowling.
He reaches Ozkan: Well, my dear Ozkan.
Meanwhile, Zerrin calls Nare.
Nare: Zerrin?
Zerrin: Nare, Ozkan’s here asking Demir for help. He doesn’t want to divorce you.
Nare: What?
Zerrin: He just told my brother. Please try to stop Sahin from coming. Do what you must to keep my brother from coming.
Nare: What are you saying, Zerrin? I’ll call you back.

At the Albora konak, Kaya and Kadir are playing pool. Kaya gets a call from Nare.
Nare: Kaya, where are You? I can’t get hold of Cihan.
Kaya: He’s on the border with Muzaffer.
Nare: Kaya, listen to me. Ozkan is with the Baybars and Sahin went after him. We need to do something fast.
Kaya: Who told you that, Nare?
Nare: Zerrin called me. Please, Kaya, go quickly.
Kaya: Fine, don’t worry, I’m on my way.
We see Demir and Ozkan walking down the stairs of Demir’s konak. There is a henchie keeping watch from the wall. Up drives Sahin followed by Kaya.
Demir tells Ozkan: Don’t worry, relax.
Sahin: I’m going to kill you!
Henchies surround Sahin, Kaya and Kadir. Everyone has a pistol. Zerrin finally stands in front telling everyone to stop.
Demir tells his henchies to lower their weapons.
Up walks Nadim, Demir’s father, also telling them to lower their weapons. Kaya, Kadir are restraining Sahin with difficulty. Sahin keeps threatening to kill Ozkan.
Nadim: Why do you keep coming here? This place isn’t a br….., (house of ill repute) [That made me laugh!]
Nadim: What’s going on here?
Demir: Ozkan and I were talking business. Is that a problem, Dad? Muno (one of Demir’s henchies), get Ozkan out of here. I’m tired of all the commotion. We’ll see each other later, Ozkan. Don’t be scared, relax!
Sahin: I’m going to kill you. (Kaya and Kadir are still holding him with difficulty.)
Demir: If it was up to me, I’d convince Ozkan to get divorced right away.
Sahin: What are you talking about?
Demir: Good job, this’ll keep Ozkan married to Nare.
The scuffles continue. Zerrin finally yells for them to stop: Leave and take my brother with you she tells Kaya.
Sahin and Kaya finally leave, while Demir grins from ear to ear.
At the Albora konak that evening.
Cihan: He’s an idiot. It’s in Ozkan’s interest to be servile to Demir.
Kaya: I could barely hold Sahin back. He almost shot him in the head. It’s like walking a minefield. You never know where you’ll detonate.
Cihan: He’ll come to his senses.
Sadakat comes down the stairs, listening to all this.
Cihan: I told you many. Times that this matter won’t be resolved tomorrow or the next day. If she gets divorced, what will change? As if that would fix everything.
Nare approaches.
Sadakat: Is Everything all right? What’s going on here?
Cihan: Nothing.
Sadakat: Did you find Ugur Kilinc?
Cihan: No.
Sadakat to Nare: That woman, Alya’s mother…How is she? Is she feeling better?
Nare: Yes,
Sadakat: Good. As soon as she feels better, she’s leaving. (She repeats this when Cihan just stares at her.). Let’s all go have dinner.
Cihan: I’m not even hungry.
He asks Nare how Deniz is. Nare says he is great.
Cihan: And Alya?
Nare: She’s with her mother.

Cihan: You go ahead. I’m not hungry.
Cihan’s phone rings. It’s Erol. There’s no progress on the search (for Ugur), but I managed to get all the info you asked for about Fikreye Gurdel. You’re never going to believe it. She used to work at a club in Ankara, but check this out. The biggest thing is that she served time for murder.
Cihan later comes down the stairs where Fiko is standing on the balcony.
Cihan: Ms. Fikriye, you’re up.
Fiko: I’m a lucky mother-in-law. I have a son-in-law who worries about me.
Cihan: You told Alya that you’re OK, but she doesn’t believe you.
Fiko: She’s not convinced. She’s always been perceptive, even as a kid. She’s very smart. Her instincts are strong.
Cihan: I know, I know.
Fiko: And she’s stubborn as a mule [the Spanish translation says stubborn as a goat, the English, a mule. You decide.]
Cihan: I hope you feel better.
Fiko: I’m better. The fresh air helps.
Cihan hems and haws, and Fiko finally tells him just to ask her whatever it is.
Fiko: I can tell you’re curious.
Cihan: You killed someone and went to prison.
Alya is coming down the stairs at this moment.
Fiko: You’re very smart. You did your homework, son-in-law.
Cihan: Why did you murder Emir Cezayoglu?
Alya gasps at this name.
Fiko sees that Alya is there.
Fiko goes inside quickly.
Alya is very impactada.
Cihan: Alya, I’m sorry, I should have told you from the beginning.
Alya: She killed that man?
Cihan: What?
Alya goes to her mother: You killed him?
Alya sits on the bed beside her mother. Cihan waits outside, listening.
Alya: Did you do it after I left?
Her mother nods.
Alya: And why didn’t I know?
Fiko: I kept that man’s body in the house until the day that I sold you to Caroline. I didn’t tell anyone. After you left, I turned myself in. I had to return the money to Caroline.
Alya’s face is full of pain listening to this.
Fiko: The idiot was married with children. I didn’t want him to go unpunished. My heart couldn’t take it.
Alya cries out and puts her head down.

Fiko: So, I gave them the money. His wife had suffered enough over that idiot. In the trial, they didn’t even consider the extenuating circumstances. And I spent nine years in prison.
Alya is very impactada: is that why you didn’t come back for me?
Fiko: This illness is me paying for all my sins. We women always pay the price. You should know that I didn’t choose this life. People judge you without knowing what you’ve been through and what you’ve done, without knowing the truth. And for some reason, people always choose what’s easiest.
Fiko flexes her hand, trying to reach out for Alya.
Alya get up and leaves the room. Cihan lets her leave. He has been listening at the door. He follows her out. She is overwhelmed. The theme they play here is one that I really like; it’s very sad. Later, we see Alya in a fetal position on her bed pillow and Cihan is sitting next to her. She is crying.
Cihan: Unless you fight for your future, you’ll never overcome the bad memories of the past.
Alya looks at him.
He continues: There are battles around you to cling to. Let them make up for everything you’ve been through. Embrace them.
[Oh no, I spoke too soon, we now hear “Me esta doliendo!”]
He stays for awhile and gets the red blanket. She takes his hand when he puts the blanket over her. He leaves her with the light on.
At Mine’s apartment, she is checking on Ugur.
Mine: Are you better?
Ugur: It’s better (he’s looking at his bandaged hand.)
Mine: I made the arrangements. When the truck starts being loaded, I’ll take you. You’ll leave this afternoon.
Ugur: Alright.
Mine: See you later.
Ugur: Mine, listen, I didn’t mean to interfere with your job, but you should give up Cihan. You could regret it.
Sher smiles at him: I won’t regret anything. I love Cihan so much that I’ll fight to the end for the man that I adore. And I’m going to win.
We see a nice new highway, and Demir is taking Zerrin to school. Zerrin is mad at this: Have you no pride? Are you doing this just to enjoy yourself?
Demir: Watch your words or I’ll throw you out of the car.
Zerin: Just try it. You think I’m scared of you?
Demir: Zerrin, do you think I’m kidding?
Zerrin: Stop the car and leave me here.
Demir: What don’t you like about me? I’m a good person.
Zerrin: You’re the devil.
Demir: Wrong. I’m a miserable man trying to get revenge.
Zerrin: Miserable people don’t do bad things.
Demir: But you tried to kill me for revenge.
Zerrin: Because you deserve it.

Demir: You think you’re right? What about what they did to me? Don’t they deserve it? I once loved as you do. As Kaya does.
Zerrin: Your heart’s made of stone. And your words are an insult to love.
Demir suddenly pulls the car to the shoulder.
Zerrin: What are you doing? (He drives down a dirt road.) Where are you taking me? I told you to stop the car.
At the Albora konak
Alya enters her mother’s room.
Good morning, they greet each other.
Alya: How are you?
Fiko: Fine. I’m fine, I mean it this time. I even had breakfast.
Alya: OK. We’re going out for a bit to take Deniz to the kite festival.
Fiko: Kite festival? That sounds fun.
Alya: We’re only going because my son wants to go.
Fiko: Of course, take him. These are the best days of his life. Moments like these never come back.
Demir is finally back on a paved road and stops at a new looking, very remote konak that looks built into the rocky hill behind it.
Zerrin is frightened. He tells her to get out of the car.
She struggles, but he takes her up the stairs into the very nicely furnished home. He tells her it is his prison: Welcome.
There are many photographs on the wall, most showing Seyda.
Demir: Look around. What do you see? Am I a wicked man? Now answer this. How different is Kaya’s love for you than what I felt for Seyda? Tell me. What did Kaya tell you? That he’d die for you. Did he say he can’t live without you?
He points at a photograph of Sayda: I couldn’t live without that woman either. I would’ve given my life for her. You think you’re the only ones who can fall in love? The only ones with hearts? You think only your love is sacred? Tell me.
He is on the verge of tears. His wound is bleeding through his sleeve.
Demir: Tell me.
And he collapses to the hard marble floor, landing like a stone.
Zerrin runs from the room to escape or to get help? Stay tuned to find out tomorrow.
