Howdy from the Alamo City CarayCaray Family. I want to personally congratulate the Seattle Seahawks on winning their 2nd Super Bowl Championship from over the weekend.
Now, here's my super-short recap of last night's episode:
*Isidro still in prison at the interrogation room.
*Creepy Tibeiro still alive & General Cifuentes still upping the ante even further.
*Ismael & Creepy Vic forming some alliance of sorts: It will NOT end well!
*Leo & La Mamba stilk doing Leo & La Mamba things LOL.
*Lizzie wants more influence & power.
*Parcero & Horacio plotting something.
Also, again a huge battering of a character (this time a horrible car accident) and no bruises! ha!
Though nobody has commented yet, I have a bit I typed up last night which is off-topic, but I'll go ahead and post it. Here it comes!
Novelera – I totally agree with you that the pivotal thing is to have an excellent teacher! The lady I took my only year of Latin from was just one of two teachers in my whole K-12 education that I really didn’t care for. I was a well-behaved student, so we didn’t clash, but I had the feeling she wasn’t enthused about me either. I was very glad when the year was done. But I did learn about noun cases! Also, it was some vocabulary help. I remember a few years later I came across the word “puerile” and thought – wow, I have a good idea what that means!
What caught my attention is that you said your Latin teacher got a bit teary when talking about the death of Julius Caesar, and I wondered why. Now, history is not my strong suit, and I’d have to spend a ton of time reading up to see if my understanding of the Caesar story is correct, so just tell me if I’m wrong.
The way I understand it is that Caesar was an exciting guy and also a guy totally and ruthlessly focused on complete power for himself. The Roman republic had existed for over 4 centuries at that time and its main guiding principle was that no single man should be in power. Hence the elected senate and the two (not one!) consuls at the top of the pyramid. Caesar didn’t care at all about that ideal. The crowd thought Caesar was great. Lookit him go! And he conquered Gaul! (The senate felt his treatment of the Gauls was so vicious that it constituted war crimes, and I bet the standard was much lower then than today.)
The senate was weak – they were scared of him due to his popularity and his habit of having any opposing men beaten up. When he was off being governor of Gaul they laid out a bunch of charges against him – breaking laws of the republic and war crimes, but he could not be prosecuted because as governor he was immune.
When things got dire in Rome for various external reasons, they decided to opt for a clause they had that said one man could be leader in time of crisis but only for 6 months. The word for that leader was “dictator.” Caesar said he’d do it, but it had to be 3 years, not 6 months. The senate reluctantly agreed.
In the end, he got stabbed, and one of the men was Brutus, his beloved protégé. Brutus and the other assassins killed him to save the republic and its sort-of democracy. It was too late, though, and for the next 400 years it was emperors. The republic was lost, never to return.
#73 mini recap
Hamada names Nadim as Boran’s killer. Kaya goes BSC and heads off to find Nadim. Cihan warns him not to kill Nadim, but to bring him alive.
The word spreads about Nadim. Demir tells Nadim. Nadim proclaims his innocence and takes off in his car.
Kaya catches Nadim and forces him into his truck at gunpoint. Nadim shouts he’s innocent and grabs the steering wheel which makes the truck fly off the road and down a steep hill. Cihan, Demir, Zerrin, and Sada all arrive at the scene just in time to see the truck explode.
But don’t worry. Kaya managed to get himself and Nadim out before it exploded. Kaya seems to have minor injuries but Nadim is in bad shape. Cihan decides not to kill Nadim on the spot since he’s likely to die.
Surprisingly, Demir is upset over his father and vows to get even more revenge on the Alboras.
Meanwhile at the konak, Deniz finds Pakize and Ummu in the room that Sada was preparing for Mine’s baby. They were in there to clean out the stuff but Deniz gets upset and runs away. He falls down the stairs and is knocked out. He’s taken to the hospital.
Everyone is at the hospital now. Kaya is okay. Nadim is in the ICU. Deniz is fine. Cihan has a cracked rib.
Alya forbids Sada from seeing Deniz. [Yes!] Cihan backs her up. [Yes!]
Cihan tells Alya and Nare that Hamada gave up Nadim. Sahin walks into the room to make sure everyone knows this. [ha, not so fast, Sahin. I’m not convinced yet.]
Kaya is discharged. He calls Zerrin. She’s happy he’s okay. Kaya asks her how can she live in the house of the person who killed Boran. Demir comes into the room and goes crazy. Zerrin reminds him Kaya saved Nadim and oh, yes, didn’t you hate your father? Apparently Demir can hate his father but no one else can. He promises to kill Kaya.
Mine worms her way into Deniz’s room. She tells the boy she’s a close friend of Cihan’s. Thank goodness Alya comes in before Mine can tell the kid she’s having Cihan’s baby. Alya and Mine have some words outside Deniz’s room.
Deniz comes home from the hospital. Muzzafer is okay.
Cihan confronts Sada over what she did to Deniz and tells her she has to leave the konak. He’s moving her to Midyat today. Kaya and Nare question this. Alya just stands by. Sada is adamant—she’s not going! She is the Albora matriarch! Cihan tells her if she refuses, she will be alone. He takes Alya’s hand and they start walking out.
Sada faints. So perhaps everyone will stay in place now. We’ll see.
Maggie, thanks for posting about Rome. I guess I thought Ms. Mostenic dabbed her eyes with her lace-trimmed hankie because Julius Caesar was stabbed to death. She also might have been familiar with Shakespeare's play and Marc Antony's soliloquy. JC also got us the "crossing the Rubicon" metaphor.
Thanks so much, dondi, for putting up a really well-done summary of last night's emotional episode.
I thought Kaya was going to pay the price last night for always going off halfcocked. I thought he was burned up.
ITA about being surprised that Demir got all grief stricken about his papí. But, like nearly everyone in this dizi, his thoughts immediately turn to revenge.
I didn't understand that Ummu and Pakize were there to clear away the baby furnishings, so I was later confused by Sada's clearly proclaiming her innocence (not her usual M.O.).
Yep, I think Nadim has been very convincing in his protestations about not arranging for Boran's death. If Kaya hadn't been so impulsive, his level-headed older brother might have questioned him and believed him.
Ha! Demir can hate his father but no one else can!
Crap! Looks like we aren't going to have the pleasure of seeing Sadakat booted out of the Albora konak.
Thank you, dondi, for the recap! Sometimes, this show is like a cartoon with super heroes who survive all manner of accidents with minimum damage. No way anyone could survive that truck tumbling down the hill, much less have time to get out before the fiery explosion.
Does Lejos have 2 seasons? There are loose ends to tie up in two more nights. Mine's baby, the three couples, did Nadim really kill Boran, Ecmel, Sadakat, will Cihan keep control of the gangs. And, of course, will Kadir (?) get a girlfriend?
I think Cihan has always treated Mine badly. He never showed any affection for her. Now she's a villain, partly due to him.
He should have left her years before Alya came on the scene.

Episode 74 #1
Un compromiso peligroso – A Dangerous Compromise
At the Albora Konak
Cihan to Sadakat: You’re going to leave this house.
Sadakat: You know this is my home. I’m the matriarch of the Albora.
Cihan: Very well. Since you refuse to leave, you’ll be left alone.
Kaya and Nare appear unhappy with this, but Cihan tells them not to interfere. He takes Alya by the hand and they walk right past Sadakat. Then Sadakat faints (or feints). Nare, Kaya and Alya run to her.
Later, a doctor comes down from her room: Her pressure was high, but we medicated her. For now, she is stable.
Cihan asks about her heart. Doctor: There is a heart murmur but nothing to worry about. In the hospital tomorrow, we’ll do other tests.
Cihan: Fine. May I see her?
Doctor: We gave her a sedative. I’m sorry. You can talk to her tomorrow.
In their suite, Alya finds Cihan looking at a book of pictures. He asks about Deniz.
Alya: Pakize is with Deniz. I’ll go see him later.
He puts the picture book away and groans. Alya asks if it’s hurt. He says plenty, but the physical pain doesn’t matter.
Alya: I’m very sorry.
Cihan: Why?
Alya: In reality, I’m sorry about this situation. I know it can’t be easy to go against your mother and tell her that she’s leaving. I understand all that that means, and I realize that you are doing it for Deniz.
Cihan nods.
Alya continues: I also know you are doing it for me. I’m very grateful.
Cihan: Don’t thank me. I did it for myself. Alya, you two are my family. You are my wife and Cihan is my son.
Alya: I know how much you have been fighting. I can tell. It causes you pain and the fighting exhausts you. I can tell. Your mother will never change and you know it. Never. She’ll keep doing what she does and slowly wear us down over time. Especially Deniz.
Cihan: Yes. I like how direct you are. Thank you.
Alya: You know who killed Boran. You said so. Now that man is fighting for his life. There’s nothing he can do. Deniz isn’t in danger anymore.
Cihan: Stop.
Alya: Let me leave.
Cihan: No, Alya.
Alya: Come on, we’re not in danger anymore. The killer can’t touch us anymore. You know I wanted to stay here. You saw so yourself. In spite of everything, I tried to stay. I wanted this to work.
Cihan: You’re staying.
Alya: I can’t, Cihan. Look what’s become of your mother. It’ll always be like that. What if things had been worse? What if something more serious had happened? You think I could live with the regret? Why must we always argue? I don’t want to keep dealing with this situation. Living like this isn’t healthy and I don’t want to cause you more pain and suffering.
Cihan: What suffering, Alya?
Alya: You know.
Cihan: No, I don’t. I’m doing this for you both. Cihan and you are my world; don’t you know that?
Alya: I do.

Episode 74 #2
Cihan: What else do I have to do to show it? How do I demonstrate it? If you walk out that door with little Cihan, you’d hurt me more than my mother has.
Alya: Enough. Stop. (She is watching him holding his waist in pain.) Now sit down. Are you in a lot of pain?
Cihan: Only when I breathe.
She gets him to sit on the bed and adjusts the pillows.
Cihan: I don’t understand why you can’t understand.
Alya: Try to lie back but don’t exert yourself.
There’s a knock on the door.
It’s Ummu telling her what she ordered has arrived.
She has a nice blue box. Cihan wants to know what it is. She said it arrived just in time. It’s an elastic girdle sort of thing for him to wear.
She tries to take off his shirt, but he stares at her. She finally tells him he can take it off.
Then she gets him to lift his arms. She wraps him up.
Alya: Is that better?
Cihan: Looking at you makes me feel better. May I put my arms down? [This made me laugh out loud!]
Alya: Yes, slowly.
Later we see Cihan come back from the other room (apparently without the bandage) and get into bed where Alya and Deniz are already sleeping. Alya wakes and smiles to see that he has joined them.
Outside on the konak balcony, Nare is standing. Her phone rings. It’s Sahin.
Sahin: You know, right now, nothing makes me happier than talking to you.
Nare smiles.
Sahin continues: I’ve had this internal doubt ever since our last talk before I went to Syria. Even though I believed my father, I wasn’t convinced. I even prayed dozens of times, pleading that my father not be the real culprit. Now that I can feel that relief, I understand how heavy that burden was.
Nare: I also was scared, Sahin. I slept in fear every night but wouldn’t admit it. But now I feel happy and relieved. And not just for us but for your father. And especially you.
Sahin: I promised that if my father were innocent, I’d ask you to be my wife. It’s time for your answer. Come to the valley tomorrow and give me the answer to the question I just asked. Our story should’ve begun a long time ago. It starts with you and will continue for all eternity. Please come tomorrow.
She takes a large breath and tells him she’ll be there tomorrow.
Back at Albora konak, Cihan knocks on Sadakat’s door.
He wishes her good morning.
Cihan: Are you OK?
She says she is and he says he’s glad to hear it.
He sits on the bed beside Sadakat. She asks how he is. He tells her to stop acting like she cares.
Kaya and Nare enter as well.
Everyone is waiting for Cihan to speak: Just so you know, I’m not taking back what I said. If you continue with this, you’re just sacrificing your own health.
Sadakat is looking away from Cihan.
Cihan: But I’m not changing from my position even a millimeter.
Sadakat: Cihan, everything I did was for you and your well-being, so that the son of a fighter will grow up by your side and continue your legacy.

Episode 74 #3
Cihan: Did I ever say I wouldn’t look after the child? I said I’d take responsibility. But the baby’s mother isn’t setting foot in this house. That woman will not enter the mansion, you hear me? It’s for the best. I won’t separate the baby from his mother, which is why they have to live somewhere else. They’ll live comfortably in the house I buy them, and when I want to see the baby, he can visit. I’m a married man, Mom, and you will respect that. You’ll have to get used to it, got it? (No answer.) You either accept everything I just said or I’ll take Alya and Cihan and we’ll walk out that door and you’ll never see me in this house again.
Sadakat sighs and looks very impactada.
Cihan: Do you accept?
Nare and Kaya look at each other.
Sadakat: I accept.
Cihan: Excellent. I have one final request, so pay attention. The last thing I want you to do for me.
Sadakat looks at him.
(We don’t hear what he says.)
In the dining room, Ummu and Pakize are preparing what looks like coffee with a French press, but it could be something else.
Alya walks in and wishes them good morning.
Alya: No one has come down yet?
Ummu: They are just coming now.
Cihan enters followed by everyone. Cihan asks for Deniz, who is still sleeping according to Alya.
He’s glad he’s not there and tells Ummu and Pakize to leave them alone. The family all take their seats.
Alya: What’s going on?
Cihan: Nothing.
Alya tries to get Nare to tell her.
Cihan: I spoke to my mother. We won’t be discussing the baby anymore. It’s been decided that he won’t live in the mansion, and my mother won’t insist anymore. Of course, she’ll undoubtedly share with Mine everything we just discussed.
Alya looks at Sadakat and Cihan.
Cihan: She’ll explain every detail, every word, exactly as I said it, and Mine will never expect help from my mother again. Isn’t that right?
Alya’s face is very impactada, and Sadakat says: That’s right.
Cihan: Very well. After breakfast, we’re taking my mother to the hospital so she can discuss all of this with Ms. Mine.
Sadakat looks away.
Cihan: Fantastic.
Outside the konak, Cihan asks if everyone is ready. He asks Sadakat if she is ready. She nods and walks to the car. As she passes Kaya, she tells Kaya they will be asking for Ipek’s hand that afternoon. [Watching Sadakat during all of this is fascinating. She is humbled, briefly, but very quickly regains her demeanor of being in charge. I dislike her, but I have to be impressed with the force of her character.]
Kaya: This afternoon, Mom?
Sadakat: I already told you. Her mother sent her ring size and we agreed that the ceremony would be today. We’ll buy the ring when we leave the hospital and figure out what else to bring, OK, Kaya?
Cihan to Kaya: You’re not excited at all. You didn’t even know it was tonight. Call if off, Kaya. Did you hear me?
Sadakat to Cihan: Impossible. The caravan’s already on the way. You must follow through, and you’ll be asking for Ipek’s hand on behalf of Kaya. We’ll all go together.
Cihan: Mother, if Kaya changes his mind, I can talk to the young lady’s family. I’ll convince them. Kaya, you need to call off this engagement.
Kaya: I’m going through with it, brother. I’m going to the market. Call me when you’re finished and we’ll talk.
Sadakat, looking smug again: Very well. Let’s go.

Episode 74 #4
In town, Sahin drops Fidan off. Zerrin is in the back seat looking as unhappy as usual.
Fidan: Let’s go pick up something for the baby.
Zerrin: It’s too early, Mom.
Fidan: Time flies and we’ll look for something nice. Now come out.
Zerrin gets out of the car and goes with her mother.
Sahin gets a call. It’s Nare saying she’ll meet him in the valley.
He drives off quickly.
In the valley, Sahin is waiting. Nare arrives, and they are so happy to see one another.
Sahin: Your smile lights up my whole world.
Nare: I admire your unbreakable patience.
Sahin: I waited for you. A part of me always knew we’d be together. I anxiously waited for your smile to come back to me, and I won’t let them separate us again.
Nare: Yes, I’m here, Sahin, late as it may be. Right now my heart’s beating like when I was a girl.
Sahin: I know, my love. So is mine. I’m going to ask you that very important question.
There is a lovely waterfall nearby. Sahin gets on his knees and takes out a ring. His face really is very lovely when he smiles.
Will you marry me?
She is giddy, laughing, and says: Oh, Sahin, yes, I accept. We’ll be together the rest of our lives.
They embrace. He puts the ring on her hand, after he first put it on the wrong finger! They are ecstatic.
At the hospital, Sadakat comes out of the doctor’s office.
Doc: Her valves are functioning normally and the heart murmur’s rhythm is steady, which means you have nothing about which to worry.
Cihan: Thanks, doctor.
Doc: Ms. Sadakat, you’ll have to continue taking your blood pressure medicine.
Alya thanks the doctor. She sees Mine skulking, and Alya takes off.
Cihan: How opportune of you to be here, Mine. My mother wants to speak to you, don’t you? Go talk and I’ll wait here.
Sadakat gets Mine to follow her.
Back to the happy couple, still embracing in that lovely setting.
Nare: But we can’t get married right away.
Sahin: Why not?
Nare: Because I’m supposed to be mourning Ozkan’s death, sweetie.
Sahin: Let’s get a letter from the hospital for the civil registry. We need to get married without telling anyone.
Nare grins at him: Let’s do it!
At the hospital on the balcony.
Sadakat: No matter how much I insisted, Cihan made a decision and he won’t change his mind. Neither you nor the baby can live in the konak.
Mine: What are you saying? You promised. You said you’d take care of me and told me to focus on the baby. You said you’d handle everything and now you’re telling me I can’t set foot in the mansion!
Sadakat: Calm down. There’s no reason to raise your voice at me. It’s not like the prospect excites me either. In spite of you, Alya didn’t leave. Cihan won’t let her leave. That woman sweet-talked my son somehow and he no longer sees you the same way he used to. As far as he’s concerned, your relationship is over. Cihan will take responsibility for the boy. He’ll buy you a house in which to live, but you won’t come to the konak. You have to avoid getting overly emotional or you’ll lose the baby. You worry about giving birth. Then you move into that house and, after that, time will tell. Goodbye.

Episode 74 #5
After Sadakat walks away, Mine walks, thinking hard.
Alya is walking in the hall. Mine: Are you happy? Admit it, you win. You got what you wanted, didn’t you, Alya?
Demir comes walking up, shaking his beads as usual. He listens to this without Alya or Mine knowing.
Alya: I didn’t do anything. Besides we’re in a hospital, so stop yelling.
Mine stops and accosts Alya: Nothing’s good enough for you. Are you trying to lecture me? Alya: I’m just trying to set boundaries.
Alya tries to walk away, but Mine blocks her: You’ve got so much influence over Cihan that Ms. Sadakat now serves you as well. Bravo.
Up walks Cihan: Nobody’s serving anyone, Mine. Alya doesn’t need that. She manages her own affairs. But for you, all the doors are closed. I made sure of that.
Mine looks at Cihan and then Alya and finally walks away.
Demir is still skulking, so maybe he heard most of this.
Demir follows Mine.
She goes in her office and is visibly upset. She kicks her chairs and knocks things off her desk, so loudly that someone checks to see if she Is ok.
Leave me alone, she yells.
Someone else enters.
Mine: I said leave me alone!
Then she notices it is Demir.
Demir: Mine! Wow! They ruined my life. And now they’ve ruined yours. We’re in the same boat, Mine. You do get what’s going on, don’t you? You’re drowning in silence. But keep your cool. Revenge is a dish best served cold. Take your time planning it and be patient. Remember the files? Remember what Dr. Ugur told you?
FLASHBACK: You know what terrifies Cihan? Whatever it is, it’s his Achilles Heel.
Dr. Ugur: This key will unlock the reason Cihan’s after me.
Mine: What does it open?
Dr. Ugur: Something in the hospital.
Back in real time, Mine remembers this. Demir: Did you discover something?
Mine: Not yet. But time will tell.
Demir: I’m sure time will tell. I’ve always liked that expression. Goodbye.
Mine finds the key on the floor where she threw everything.
In town, Sadakat comes out of a store after buying rings for Ipek. Sadakat: Maybe we should have picked the biggest one.
Kaya: The other one would’ve been too heavy. This one’s fine.
Sadakat’s expression sours as she sees Fidan. Then Zerrin follows her mother onto the sidewalk.
Sadakat: Of all the people we could’ve run into, it had to be those snakes. Nice to see you, Fidan.
Fidan: Your tongue is very sharpened, don’t you think? Well, I hope you rot and that you fall. You told people that Ecmel is an assassin. Don’t you have any dignity? You walk the streets unfettered.
Kaya: Let’s go.
Sadakat: You’re as sweet as ever, Fidan. I have nothing to be ashamed of and no time to waste on you. Today we are asking for the hand of Ipek, the daughter of Salih Onderlioglu.
Sadakat rubs it in further showing the ring, shoving it in front of Zerrin.
Sadakat: Isn’t her ring beautiful?
Zerrin looks silently at Kaya.
Fidan: Oh, that’s great. What wonderful news!
Sadakat: Yes (and she walks off with her nose in the air.)

Fidan: Come, we’re wasting our time here.
Kaya watches her walk by and looks very sad.
Back in his room, Kaya is looking at a wedding band.
Kahya: Oh, Zerrin.
He puts it back in a little box.
Cihan enters the room.
Cihan: Are you OK?
They sit side by side on the bed. Cihan grabs the little box and opens it. He answers his own question: No, you’re not (OK).
Kaya: Remember when, in front of Demir’s house, I swore to forget Zerrin. You told me it wouldn’t be easy.
Cihan: I did say that.
Kaya: It’s very hard, in fact. But I’ve chosen a path from which there’s no turning back and I’m going to follow it, brother.
In their suite, Alya is tidying up things.
There’s a knock and Nare enters, dressed very nicely. [She always looks good, IMHO]
They talk about Kaya getting married. Nare says he is doing it just to forget Zerrin.
Alya: I know.
Nare: I made the same mistake and don’t want history to repeat itself.
Alya: You’re right, but it doesn’t look like Kaya’s changing his mind. Are you feeling OK?
Nare: I think I’m going to amend that mistake, Alya. I’m going to marry Sahin tomorrow.
Alya: What?
Nare: It’s a secret.
Alya: What are you saying?
Nare: It’s the only thing we can do to be together. Don’t tell my brother. I know you’ll keep my secret.
Alya: Nare, you should tell Cihan.
Nare: No. Listen, we’ll tell him after we get married. You know how hard it has been being away from Sahin.
Alya: Do you want me to join you? In case anything comes up.
Nare: Obviously. I’d love for you to join us, but we already have witnesses.
Door knock, and Cihan walks in.
Cihan: Nare, what’s going on?
They hem and haw. Nare says she will check on her mother and let them get ready,
Cihan: Did something bad happen?
Alya: No, but you know her. She’s worried about Kaya.
Cihan: Your outfit’s lovely.
Alya: So’s yours.
That gets a big laugh from Cihan. They both smile at one another.
Cihan: Are you ready? Let’s go.
She gets her handbag and they leave.
On a rooftop terrace, the families meet. They follow the usual traditions. Ipek serves Kaya the “best coffee,” which will probably be full of salt and pepper.
She tells him he is serious now but that’ll change, she knows it.
Kaya bravely drinks the coffee.

Zerrin is crying beside a basinet. She is looking at her ring.
Out on the balcony, Demir is aiming a long-range, high-powered rifle. He is joined by three henchies. They inform him that the Alboras have gone to ask for the hand of the girl.
Demir: Is there a lot of security?
Henchie: Yes, but most are in the garden, sir. Kaya Albora’s going down today.
Demir tells them he will take care of it, packs his gun in its case, and walks off.
Back at the engagement party, Cihan speaks: I come to ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage, in accordance with Allah and the word of the Prophet, on behalf of Kaya, if you’ll have him.
Her father replies: This is a great honor. Our family approves, but even so, we’d ask for our daughter’s approval. Ipek, darling, my beautiful daughter, are you sure you want to get married?
Ipek takes two breaths and answers: Yes, Dad.
Dad continues: Then I wish you all the happiness in the world.
Sadakat stands up along with everyone else. She tells some young relatives to bring the rings. They are given to Sadakat.
Now it’s a bit unnerving, because we suddenly are seeing this through a rifle’s sights.
Sadakat puts the rings on their fingers.
We see Demir begin to pull the trigger.
Zerrin walks in front of him. She is on another part of his home’s roof. Zerrin seems oblivious to the gun, but she is also watching the ceremony on the nearby patio.
Sadakat cuts the red ribbon that connects the two rings: In the name of Allah, may you have abundance and health.
She tells Muzaffer to bring the rest of the jewelry.
Kaya has yet to smile.
Zerrin is crying as she watches this.
Demir watches Zerrin from behind her patio.
Ipek: Mr. Kaya, you’re now engaged.
He is able to make a little smile. She notices: You smiled! I don’t believe it.
Kaya: I wish you good health.
Ipek: Thank you, you also. Should we hug? (Kaya looks uncomfortable.) Come on, a hug to celebrate. They embrace.
Now Zerrin appears dangerously impactada. Demir runs downstairs to follow her as she drives off.
Meanwhile the families all hug and exchange pleasantries.
Zerrin stops her car on the highway. She gets out on a bridge. She climbs over the first barrier. Then she reaches the bridge railing.
Kaya! I already forgave you, my love. But I can’t forgive myself. She sobs and shakes.
My baby. I’m so sorry.
She starts to climb over the railing.
Demir drives up just in time and grabs her.
Zerrin, get down from there and calm down.
She screams: Let go. This is all your fault; don’t you get it? Don’t tell me to calm down.
Demir is trying to calm her: Think of your baby.

He walks Zerrin into their home to try and calm her down. He places her on a chair and draws up a chair to speak with her.
Demir: Don’t scare me like that, Zerrin. Are you OK?
Zerrin: Why did you stop me? I didn’t want to live anymore. Why did you save me? I told you I can’t go on living without Kaya.
Demir: He’s the one who’s going to die, not you.
Zerin: What?
Demir: I’m going to kill him to avenge my father.
Zerrin: You what?
Demir: Seeing you cry over him just proves that I’m right to want him dead. He ruined your life. My father’s dying because of him. And because he made you suffer, he’s made me hate him. I’m going to eliminate him from our lives forever. I’ll do whatever it takes. I’m capable of anything.
Zerrin is looking at Demir like he’s crazy.
Demir continues: And I promise that I won’t stop until I complete my objective.
End of Chapter 74
Babachita
Howdy from the Alamo City CarayCaray Family. Here's my super-short recap of last night's episode.
*General Cifuentes & Creepy Tibeiro have evil sinister plans in store for Isidro.
*Ligia & Roberta having some weird lunch over at some undisclosed location.
*Flashback of President Serrano speaking with Ligia.
*Nutty Lucy trying to avoid Crazy Rancho's suspicions about whom she's speaking with over the phone.
*Looks like Parcero & Crazy Rancho will be scheming another attack on what's left of the Casillas family.
*Lizzie speaking with President Serrano over the phone.
Another amazing recap, Babachita!
I’m fact all you recappers have done astonishing work. These very detailed recaps must’ve taken forever to write up and have been tremendously helpful. In this dizi if we miss a tiny bit of dialog we can lose a major plot point.
You all went way above and beyond and it’s hugely appreciated!
Maggie
I also want to say that it’s been a wonderful experience being part of this patio. You all have been so warm and welcoming, and I’ve loved our discussions. Also I often needed the explanations and insights you offered. They were a tremendous help. It would have been way less fun watching this by myself and just commenting in my head (or ranting at the TV) with nobody to bounce ideas off.
You guys rock!
Maggie
Back to our story: Ipek is really nice and is a sunny person. Kaya has lucked out. He on the other hand was being very rude. We know he really doesn’t want to do it, but now that he’s decided to why wreck Ipek’s big day? It’s an insult to her family to have a groom who doesn’t value their daughter.
And Babachita - “skulking” - love it!
Maggie
Babachita, thanks SO much for another terrific recap. Your insights are always key as well.
Kaya certainly leads a charmed life, does he not? I'm starting to lose track of the times he's almost been finished off.
Sigh. I was disappointed when Alya's response to believing Nadim and that the danger to Deniz, was no longer a problem. Thus, she could leave. I don't think I've ever seen a TN or dizi in which people who love each other have taken THIS long to say it. But it was very sweet when she opened her eyes, saw Cihan in bed with she and Deniz, and just smiled.
What's wrong with where Mine lives now? Why does Cihan have to buy her a house. Can't he just support her there?
Babachita, ITA on Sada being humbled briefly. But she couldn't wait even one day to enjoy getting her way about marrying off Kaya. She seems to me to just be pretending to be defeated. She even hinted that with Mine with the last bit being about buying time. Sure, Ecmel is a terrible guy, but Sahin and Zerrin seem like good people (Fidan's doing?). She has three children and seems perfectly fine ushering them into unhappy marriages. We don't know what part she played in Cihan's marriage to the Baybars daughter (forgot her name), but I'm assuming she was OK with it.
I'm still confused about Turkish marriages. Nearly all the ones I've seen appear to be civil ceremonies. IIRC the officiant wears something that reminds me of the robes lawyers wear in court. That has seemed like all that is necessary. But what Nare said made it sound like her plans with Sahin were somehow less than that.
That skeleton key, pfft! These writers keep Ogur's finding out about Boran's parentage hanging over our heads.
Thanks, Babachita, I had forgotten about that tradition of the prospective bride serving something awful to the prospective groom.
Babachita, thanks for this recap and all the excellent recaps you’ve provided for this dizi.
“Sadakat faints (or feints).” Very clever. I wondered if she was faking at first.
I like Ipek. It’s a shame that the Alboras will probably ruin her life. In the Turkish, Ipek let Kaya know she didn’t spike the coffee…but she sort of teased he would pay for it later.
I was surprised when Cihan crawled into be with Deniz and Alya. It’s now or never to get that kiss.
To answer Beth S from yesterday, this is currently in its second season in Türkiye. I thought the first season ended with ep 27 but it’s 28. I can’t see how they could wrap this up in a satisfying way tonight.
I feel the same way you do, Maggie, about the patio. It’s much more fun to watch with company. I hope they don’t make us wait too long for a second season.
#75 - El Amor Siempre Gana
Part 1 of 4
Let me start with the good part. We’ll see the second season in July. They showed some kind of spoiler scenes after the end of this episode, but I’m trying to forget them and won’t write them here.
We revisit the scene with Demir and Zerrin where she asks why he stopped her from jumping. And Demir again rants about Kaya having ruined Zerrin’s life. He swears he’ll kill Kaya. [Demir, if you weren’t such a nut case, you’d know that telling Zerrin you’ll kill the man she loves just makes her hate you more.]
Alya and Cihan return from the engagement party. Kaya is in another car, staring into the abyss. Sada, butter not melting in her mouth, coaxes him out of the car. Ummu, unlike his mother, seems to know how he feels as she embraces him. Sada rattles on about what catch Ipek is. Alya and Cihan just stare at her.
Alya comes to the balcony to reassure Cihan he’s knocked himself out trying to protect Kaya. I tried, even though he decided to get engaged. I pray that young woman will be able to pull him out of the darkness, and that he will hang onto life. It’s true, Alya replies. But the day could come when Kaya doesn’t have anyone to hold onto…or he turns away. Cihan says sometimes there is no other option, rather for duty or for hatred. But people latch onto what they’re trying to escape. Only time will tell.
Looking at Alya, he says that the day may come that will show you whether you hold onto that person or walk away. [These two say volumes with their eyes.]
Nare is putting the finishing touches on her makeup. Alya comes in to smile widely and tell her she’s a beautiful bride. [Yes, indeed, she is! I’ve enjoyed these two becoming sisters throughout the dizi. Neither of them had a biological sister.] Alya can’t come to the wedding, but Alya will be there for her goodbye to this house. She gets a text. Sahin has arrived. They chose this time because Sada is out for the day.
Sahin looks so handsome. He waves at Alya. Nare runs into his arm. [I keep urging them to leave before someone spoils this.]
Mine is again trying to open lockers when a maintenance guy comes in. She’s thrown the keys in frustration, and he spots them. He tells her the technicians have been looking for them. They open the Maintenance Room. Mine snatches them back.
Cihan is giving Alya a suspicious look. She says she went out to get some eggs for Deniz’s breakfast. Cihan goes out and sees Sahin’s car leaving. Is Nare with him? What happened? They’re going to get married. Don’t interfere. He’s on his way to follow, Alya objecting, when Erol calls. Ecmel has been released from prison for medical reasons. [I hope it’s terminal and not that far off.]
#75 - Part 2 of 4
Ipek has called Kaya and he’s come to the college. She puts her arm through his and wants to play hooky from class with him. Of course, Zerrin arrives, and Kaya stops protesting. [I’m tired of his putting on an act for Zerrin.] Ipek kisses him. Zerrin’s face is a Greek tragedy mask. Demir arrives and pulls a gun. Of course, he points it at Kaya’s back and time elapses while pounding dramatic music plays. Zerrin leaps and forces the gun down. Stop! I’ll stay with you. I won’t escape. I’ll do whatever you like. I promise. But please don’t kill Kaya! You’ll be the father of my child. Demir: You’ll stay with me until the end? You promise? She swears it, and he puts the gun away.
Mine opens that room and also a closet. She finds a box that the small key opens. Ugur has left a note on the outside of a manila envelope. “The great secret of Señora Sadakat is that the father of Boran is not Azem, but Ecmel. I know this because my father knew it. Inside are the forms.” [Unclear to me what kinds of proof there could be.] Mine grins triumphantly. Your moment has arrived, Señora Sadakat.
Cihan and Alya are in a car. He asks what time the wedding will be. Seems he plans to prevent Nare and Sahin marrying. Alya doesn’t know. Just then she sees a man on the street and shouts for Cihan to stop. She runs after the guy, telling him to stop. The guy pulls a gun. But Cihan runs up pointing his. She tells him that the guy is Hamada. The guy who was blamed was a fake. They lied. Nadim is not guilty. The guy knows and that’s why he ran. You have to catch him, Cihan. Cihan: It’s Ecmel. Tell Nare. Stop them from getting married.
[I don’t understand what’s happening here. How does Alya recognize Hamada?]
Too late. Nare and Sahin are married. They get the red folders with the proof of marriage. Sahin pulls aside Nare’s short veil and kisses her forehead.
Cihan is in hot pursuit of Hamada, who's taken off in a car. Alya has gotten a ride home. Nare says she missed Alya’s call, but they’re married. Alya sighs and congratulates them, not saying that she likely married the son of her brother’s killer.
Smirking and chuckling to herself, Mine arrives at the Albora konak. She airily greets Sada. Sadakat tells her that pregnancy must have affected her mind. She clearly said that Mine couldn’t come here. Mine: You made me a promise and then left me alone. Your betrayal is branded into my chest. But the world keeps on revolving. Didn’t you say that time would tell? That time is now, my dear Señora. Sada asks why and is told it’s something unexpected. I’ll tell you when Alya arrives. Oh, here she is.
Sada: Alya is here, so say what you’ve come here to say and then leave. Alya says she doesn’t plan on continuing an argument with Mine. Leave me in peace. Alya walks away. Mine calls after her that this is different because it concerns Alya’s son. Alya turns. What the hell did you say? I’m listening. And if I were to say that Ugur is involved, what then? Mine is having such a great time. Her face is just crying out for an Ottoman slap.
#75 - Part 3 of 4
Alya and Sadakat exchange a look. It’s the thing you tried to keep quiet at all costs. I discovered the secret for which you almost committed murder. [She refers to when Sadakat planned to kill Ugur in that cave.] Alya tells her to keep quiet. Sada says not here and they go inside.
Cihan is chasing Hamada’s car. But some guys appear and riddle Hamada’s car with bullets while Cihan lies down on the front seat, so they don’t see him. Cihan checks, but Hamada has no pulse.
We see Ecmel being driven somewhere. He gets a call. Hamada is no longer a problem. Excellent! Now disappear, all of you.
Sada tells Mine to speak. Now! What did you find out? Just before he died Ugur gave me a small gift. I was finally able to open it today and found out the truth you’ve hidden for so long. Tell me! That Boran is really Ecmel’s son. Mine wears her self-satisfied smirk. Alya and Sada are impactadas. Sada gets right in her face. Keep quiet! Of course. I won’t say a word on one condition. Remember – you threw me out of here despite my being pregnant. Now I want Alya to leave this house. She’ll return to Canada. If she doesn’t, I’m going to Ecmel to tell him every single thing I know.
Alya: To Sada. Bravo. Look at the woman you chose as your ally to get rid of me. She betrayed you. She used your secret to threaten you. Look what you’ve accomplished! Sada looks awful. Then, turning to Mine. It’s shameful you’ve sunk so low just to live in this konak. Don’t you have any dignity. Sada tells Alya in a rather gentle way for her that Alya must leave for Deniz’s welfare.
Shut up! Don’t you dare mention my son. Of course he matters to me. More than anything in the whole world, more than my own life. Sada replies that she should separate from Cihan. You don’t understand. How many months have I lived in this country? I’m not going anywhere without my son. If the whole world burns up, I’m not leaving.
Mine says fine. She’ll go tell Ecmel everything she knows. Everyone will know.
Ummu comes to say that Ecmel is free and he’s at the konak. Sada pulls herself together and tells Ummu to make sure he doesn’t come past the garden. Sada, Alya, and Mine come to Sada’s usual gargoyle spot. Mine says she can ruin everything with just two words. [Wow! Mine is intolerable in this episode.] Alya tells her to shut up.
Sada orders Ecmel to stay where he is. Ecmel gloats. I came to start a fire for your trying to kill me. Do you hear? Now you won’t fear the past. You’re going to fear me in person. She orders him to leave. He says he’ll be seeing her. He’s sure.
Sada turns, miserable. It’s OK. Take my grandson from here. You have to leave now. If Ecmel finds out that Deniz [she says Deniz!] is his grandson, he won’t think twice about taking him. [What? This is some crazy medieval crap. How could he waltz in and take a child from its mother?] Sada is in tears. You can’t put Deniz at risk so as to say with Cihan, right? Don’t worry. I’ll protect you, guarantee your security. But go from here. Alya turns away in tears. Sada gives Mine a dagger look.
#75 - Part 4 of 4
Cihan calls Alya. She pulls herself together. He heard that Ecmel came there. Is everything all right? He tells her that Hamada was killed. She says they won’t be able to prove it was Ecmel. Cihan tells her that they need to remain calm. I’m on my way. Get Mine out of the place. She can’t be there.
Alya tells him they can’t throw her out. She knows that my son is Ecmel’s grandson. How’d she find out? Crying, Alya says that Ugur gave her something. She knows it all. Cihan, I’m going to leave the country. Your mother told me to take Deniz and go. Ecmel will find him. Mine will tell Ecmel he’s his grandson, and he’ll come for him. We have to go. You can’t leave. I won't let you go. He’ll try to take Deniz! He says he’s on his way. Wait for me. She says she can put up with Mine. She’s done it before. I managed to put up with your mother and overcame it. But, when it comes to my son, I have to protect him.
I’ve also dealt with them. We’ll overcome this. I’m going to protect that child. I won’t forgive you if you escape. You won’t forgive me? I’ve already forgiven you everything. This is the end. She hangs up and begins sobbing.
Cihan says they’re not going anywhere. He won’t let it happen.
We see Alya walking out holding Deniz’s hand. She isn’t even taking a suitcase. Our gargoyle is crying. Mine looks defiant.
Kaya’s come home. Deniz tells his tío that they’re leaving. Kaya is quite upset. He asks Alya to wait for Cihan. Sada tells Kaya gently to let them leave. Deniz tells his mother that they’ll come back, right? She doesn’t answer. She embraces Kaya. Kaya kneels and hugs Deniz. Alya thanks Muzaffer and Kadir. Alya looks back at Sada, distraught, and at Mine, defiant. And she gets in the back of a hired car.
Alya is at the airport with Deniz asleep on her lap. We get some flashback scenes of their stormy relationship. Her flight is called. Alya wakes Deniz, who says he’s sleepy. She assures him he can sleep on the plane. She looks behind her. We get a sort of repeat of when she went to the airport months ago. She again freezes before walking up to the official’s window. She looks back (for Cihan?) once more and then passes through to the gate.
Cihan has arrived. Alya is putting her purse through the x-ray machine when Cihan calls out. She won’t come back. Cihan convinces the airport guy to give him 2 minutes with his wife.
He promises her everything will be all right. Stay with me. I’ll protect you from anyone. We hear last call for the flight. Please don’t go. He gently takes hold of her arm. I don’t promise a rose garden. Maybe things could be worse. I don’t know. They’ll put mines in our way. Let them do it. We’ll get through this. Maye it will be difficult. I don’t want you to leave my life, Alya. Because I love you. He pulls her close and at long last the kiss! We see Deniz passed out on a chair.

Howdy from the Alamo City CarayCaray Family. Here's my super-short recap of last night's episode:
*More roadblocks ahead for the Casillas family.
*Crazy Rancho & Nutty Lucy still nuts.
*Creepy Vic with the cowboy hat & attire LOL.
*Interesting to see if Carlos & Gullible Angela might become endgame.
*More scheming & plotting between Crazy Rancho & Parcero.
*Ismael goes off on General Cifuentes over the phone, but Cifuentes is one step ahead of Ismael & the Casillas family.
I am looking forward to July! I may peek ahead on Daily Motion or elsewhere.
I wanted to add that the marriage ceremony is just a civil contract for property rights in many cultures. My SIL's and niece's marriages had separate Muslim blessing ceremonies (Pakistani culture in US).
I suppose the medical records from when Sadakat was thrown down the incline mentioned Ecmel and the baby. I would imagine Boran's birth certificate months later would state her then husband Azem as the father, as they were trying to hide Ecmel's name.
Supposedly Alya recognized Hamada from the car accident in Canada. Wasn't he the driver?
Speaking of disbelief, the killers of Hamada didn't shoot at the witness in the car behind H (Cihan's car). I assume they thought it was some random person who didn't need to be killed. Or the showrunners like plot holes.
Nice to finally see Sadakat get a little comeuppance, but shame it has to be at Alya's expense. And what does Mine expect from this? Not like anyone will like her. Her life is going to be very unfun at the konak (right?), and heaven help her if the baby is a girl. Because this town is a bit medieval.
But there is one way that Cihan could be with Alya and Deniz and also keep them safe. GO TO CANADA! Can understand why he wouldn't want to leave Kaya in charge of the family business, but this might be a good time for everyone to go straight and make Kaya get a real job.
K
Many thanks, novelera, for your excellent final recap and for all your first-class recaps for Lejos. The asides were perfect as usual!
Glad we don’t have to wait long for our second season. The ratings are still very good in Türkiye and I wonder if they will go for a third season. I saw the spoilerish preview, too, but I turned off the sound.
They set up the next season well.
Hamada was a big surprise. It came out of nowhere. Didn’t expect it, but I’m pleased. We were right, Ecmel was behind Boran’s death. Wow, the Alboras owe the Baybars and apology, don’t you think? Crazy Demir is really gonna lose his mind. And he really loves Zerrin.
It’s too late to stop Nare and Sahin. Will they be forced to divorce?
Mine played her cards but she will be the big loser in the end.
After 75 episodes, is that the kiss? Not feeling it. Where’s all the pent-up passion? More like a K-drama kiss. Ozan looked like he might get sick. Did Sinem eat garlic before the take?
Wonderful, Novelera! You finished up this season for us in great style, with your usual fun asides. I loved Sadakat’s “gargoyle spot.”
Did you notice Demir aimed his gun stiff-armed at Kaya, right in front of the school where many students were milling about, and not one of them noticed the guy with the gun?
How did Umur get his hands on Sadakat’s old file? How would his dad even do that?
I agree, how would Alya recognize Hamada?
Yay that Sahin and Nare finally got married, but that chaste forehead kiss! We didn’t even get a proper smooch. The only smooch we got was Alya and Cihan at the end and yeah, Dondi, it looked like pre-teens having a first tentative kiss. Cihan couldn’t have gotten Mine pregnant with kisses like that. He must be able to do better. I’m thinking though that all this lack of kissing must make it easier on the spouses of the actors – they would never have to avert their eyes.
Speaking of eyes, hasn’t the Mine actress got big ones? She really uses them to good effect – she can look scared, or like a deer in the headlights, or she can throw a wicked calculating look. Anyway, now Sadakat, who was her ally there for a while will now hate her – and Mine wants to move in with her? Whoo boy!
Sadakat tearing up – it must’ve been about the loss of Deniz, not Alya. And it was amazing how there was a flight to Frankfurt available right away. It was unbelievable that the ticket checker would allow an agitated husband past him to talk to his wife for just two minutes. How did he know it would be an amicable talk and the husband wouldn’t start swinging? Well, anyway it was indeed very amicable.
I forget who of you said they should just move to Canada. Heck yeah! For that matter, why didn’t Kaya take off on a young man trip, go see the world? Instead he’s being rude as hell, sulking through an engagement that was his own idea.
I was glad they told us our show is coming back in July! How on earth am I going to remember all the details, all the ins and outs? I hope you fellow patio members will be there to help me!
I had a lot of trouble at the beginning of this show. I felt like I was swimming upstream. My problem was the portrayal of Cihan and also Alya.
At the beginning, Cihan was portrayed as authoritative and hardened. But he was beyond authoritative, shockingly cold and imperious with Mine after her suicide attempt, and rude and imperious to the nice household help. What troubled me is that I thought the writers were imagining him as a manly man. Was this the Turkish version of machismo? Also, it was obvious that he was going to be our hero, but what hero says “es mi madre” as an explanation of why he didn’t reproach her for her awful deeds, which also included trying to shoot Alya? It wasn’t until well into our show that he began to reproach her. Is it admirable to condone awful acts just because it’s your mother doing them? A hero stands up for what’s right.
And I was troubled by the portrayal of Alya. Kaya could repeatedly say how he was yearning for Zerrin – he was a man in love! Sahin could do the same because he was also a man in love. The operative word here is “man.”. But if Alya repeated how she yearned for her old life in Canada and wanted to go back, it seemed she was presented as weak and whiney.
I thought she was anything but whiney. Or weak. She stood her ground. Not only was she miserable being snatched from her happy life (and she had lost her husband too) but she had to contend with Sadakat, who wanted to steal her son and also tried to kill her.
She never rolled up into a ball and cried. When Nare got a broken heart, she went and stared at a lake. Kaya spent the night on top of a car staring at the scenery. Alya never did any nature staring – she just did battle to hold her ground. Of course by the end we’d seen her strength and so did Cihan. But I definitely thought the writers didn’t see her that way at first.
Well, all this improved as the show went along and I stopped feeling that I was seeing it differently than the actual people who wrote it.
