We have some dizi fans who plan to watch Poder y Traición, which is running very late on Telemundo. More news to follow.  In brief, the patriarch of the Korhan family looks for a wife to straighten out his irresponsible younger grandson, Ferit.  Suna, one of the daughters of the ambitious Kazim, is chosen.  But everything changes when the bridegroom chooses Seyran, the wrong sister.  She then enters a family full of betrayals and secrets.

Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation.  Since discussions of all the novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post, so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for.

By common agreement, this group DOES NOT discuss previews, trailers, or any other plot information not found in a current or past episode of the current production.  Spoilers WILL be removed by the admin.  This includes reference to earlier productions of the story, and even the original novel.  Thanks for your cooperation!

#1 part 1

In the middle of the night, a dark figure sneaks onto the Korhan family yali grounds, climbs a ladder up to the top level, and enters the bedroom of Ferit Korhan. It’s a young woman, who undresses and quietly slides into Ferit’s bed while he’s sound asleep.

Edit: at break of dawn, the staff rises. Latif prays. Others get dressed and start preparations for the day. Latif barks the orders to the staff in the kitchen—menus, errands to run. He tells Sefika to have lemon water ready for Ferit because “he came home late last night”. There’s a sweet interaction between the usually stern Latif and little Firat after the staff leaves the kitchen. Sefika smiles at this.

Latif brings Halis his medications and helps him finish dressing. Halis laments getting old. Latif answers, may Allah not give me life after you, Ağam. There are still many wonderful years ahead. Halis notes he’s already buried a child, and he hasn’t seen yet how the family will continue… [after he’s gone.] end edits.

Police cars arrive at the yali and the officers spread out. A panicked woman is with them. Halis and Latif notice the activity from the window in Halis’ room. Latif goes to check.

An officer and the woman are at the door. The officer tells Latif, this woman says that Ferit Bey is holding her daughter. Latif is shocked—impossible, how can that be? The woman claims her daughter sent her a message saying she is here.

Ibo sends Sultan to wake up Abidin. Sultan wakes him and tells him the cops are at the door. There’s a woman who says her daughter is here. Did Ferit Bey bring someone home last night? Abidin says that he brought Ferit home, alone. He was very drunk and he put him in bed. Sultan worries, what if she’s a minor?

Ibo knocks on Orhan and Gulgun’s bedroom door and he fills them in.

Ifakat comes out of her room to the sounds of the commotion downstairs.

Asuman looks out her bedroom window. Fuat wakes up. She says, your little brother has done something wrong again. The police are here.

Orhan comes to the door. The woman demands that the yali be searched. She’s sure her daughter is inside. Orhan asks the officer if he has any proof the girl is here. The woman says her daughter messaged her. She is being held against her will.

A booming voice is heard—Yeter! Enough! Everyone jumps. It gets quiet. Halis has come. He asks the officer, why do you come to the yali of the Antepli without an invitation, komiser? What is all this shouting? The officer answers, with all due respect, Halis Bey, the lady has an accusation. I’m sorry, that’s why I came.

The woman begs, Halis Bey… she goes to kiss his hand, but he pulls it away. Your grandson has kidnapped my young daughter. Halis barks, be quiet, woman! Why would my grandson kidnap anyone? This is slander. Halis signals to Latif to go [to Ferit.]

Latif knocks at Ferit’s door and enters. Ferit is still asleep. The girl is there beside him. Ferit! Ferit startles awake. Am I late for breakfast, he sleepily asks. Ferit looks over and sees the girl. He’s shocked—who are you? The girl gets out of bed and starts to dress.

Ferit jumps up, pulling the bedsheet around himself. Latif asks, what have you done? Ferit swears he’s never seen the girl before. He asks, don’t say anything to Grandpa. Latif tells him the police are here—and ağa sent me to you! Ferit is stunned. The police? Why? Latif explains, the girl’s mother is here. The girl runs out of the room. Latif tells Ferit to stay put. Ferit is baffled.

#1 part 2

The girl cries out to her mother, rushes past Halis, and out the door into her mother’s arms. The woman shouts, I told you she was here! She smugly says, tell me Halis Bey, who is slandering whom? What is my innocent daughter doing in your house? She asks her daughter if that bastard did anything to her. The girl sobs. The woman wants to press charges.

There’s nothing Halis can say. He quietly fumes. He turns to Orhan and growls, fix this mess, and he walks away.

Ferit is dressed now. Sultan is in his room. He just wants to go back sleep. She tells him that Halis is furious. He didn’t even come to breakfast, and he’s called for Orhan. Ferit thinks they will discuss his punishment. Maybe they will send him abroad again. Don’t say that, Sultan replies, you only recently returned. Ferit is resigned—let them do what they want. I don’t know that girl. No one will believe me. Sultan tells him she will let him know if she hears anything.

Halis tells Orhan, you’ve always been a good son… but you’re a useless father. You asked for permission to send him abroad. I thought he’d get an education and get a job. Look at the results. I feel more shame each week. Our family name is constantly on TV programs. Up until now, the police have only ever showed up to thank us.

Orhan responds, I’m sorry, father but Abidin was with him…maybe this was a set up? Halis asks, then why hasn’t anyone set Fuat up? Despite all my efforts, you’re a disgrace! How many times have I warned you to keep that kid in control! Halis bangs his cane for effect. Enough! It’s time to put a stop to this!

Halis continues, there’s only one option. Ferit must get married as soon as possible, before he gets into more trouble. Orhan is taken aback. But dad… Halis says he’s made his decision. Talk to Ifakat. Find a nice girl from my village and marry them as soon as possible. Orhan leaves the room and informs Gulgun.

Gulgun goes to Ferit. She tells Ferit his grandfather is right. You talk about a setup, but the police came and we were disgraced! Mom, this is ridiculous, Ferit replies, I’ll go abroad and grandpa won’t see me. I’m not getting married. She came into my room without my knowledge. Why doesn’t anyone believe me?

Do you hear yourself, Gulgun says, a stranger came into your room? How? There is a way, Ferit explains, I’ve brought girls here before. Grandpa has made up his mind, Gulgun says, he’s already thought about this, and you just sped things up.

Ferit sighs, mom, I can’t even take care of myself. I just graduated from college. [lol, he was in NY, how did he manage to survive and graduate?] And now I’m getting married because my grandfather said so? I’m going to lose my mind. I don’t even watch romantic movies with Pelin. What will I tell her? “let’s go crazy and get married”? Talk to dad and fix this.

Gulgun sits next to Ferit. You won’t marry Pelin… don’t worry. Then who, Ferit asks. Grandpa wants someone from his hometown, she replies.

A young woman, Seyran, looks out the kitchen window of a house in Antep. Her mother, Esme, enters. Help me clear the table, she says, they’ve finished eating. Seyran leaves the kitchen with Esme. Her sister, Suna scrubs the stove.

Kazim Sanli sits at the dining room table with his Aunt Hattuc. Esme starts to clear dishes. Kazim notes that their lands are not as fertile as before. Hattuc answers it’s always been the same, these lands and waters. But the people who work the land have left for the cities. That’s what I mean, Kazim replies, working the land is a tough job. He gets annoyed at Esme when she tries to take his tea glass.

golden
#1 part 3

Kazim continues, what will I do if I don’t sell the land? Did she [Esme] give me a son? We will have nothing left, Hattuc says, and I’m worried about the money you spend on the girls. Say yes to Muharrem’s son. No way, Kazim states, I won’t be related to people below me. They think they are rich just because they built some buildings. Before, they couldn’t even come ask me for salt, now they are asking for a girl?

Seyran returns to the kitchen. She’s ticked and tells Suna, my aunt is fixed on getting you married, and then it’s my turn. Let her give me, Suna replies, she’d do a good deed and I’d be saved. Seyran answers, saved when you get married, just like mom? Esme comes in and asks, what about your mom? Nothing, Seyran answers, just that your daughter wants to get married.

Suna says, at least I’m dreaming of the possibility of marriage, not dreaming of studying like you. Esme warns them to be quiet, or they all might get a beating. You can talk about whatever you want after your father leaves, she says. She tells Suna to make coffee for her father and tells Seyran to eat something.

Seyran looks at what they cleared from the breakfast table upstairs. She wrinkles her nose and declares—I don’t want to eat their leftovers! Don’t say that, Esme says, it’s not shameful. Will you only eat bread every morning? You look pale. Suna snarks, leave her alone, mom, she’s different from us. She’s educated. Suna teases and Seyran grumbles.

Kazim and Hattuc head to the home office. Kazim asks Esme to come with them. He says they need to prepare for this evening. They will have guests. There’s a man who wants to buy some land.

Kazim counts some TL and hands it to Esme. Take the girls to the market today, he tells her. A new store opened, an expensive, high-end store. Let them try on clothes so everyone can see their beauty. Try everything on, but don’t like anything and buy nothing. Okay, ağam, Esme dutifully answers. He tells her to polish his muddy shoes. Hattuc gives her the key to the pantry to bring them pistachios and chocolate with their coffee.

Kazim asks Hattuc, did you send the chocolates to Halis Ağa? Hattuc looks rattled but she answers, we did what you said and sent it. He notes, my father’s reign is over, but Halis hasn’t stopped going. A great man. We must keep in touch. We’ve invited him multiple times, yet he never responds. Hattuc replies, I’ve heard his illness is getting worse. Kazim replies, regardless of your wealth, you can’t cheat death. His grandchildren will inherit everything. This talk of Halis has affected Hattuc.

Gulgun tells Ferit, we’ll find a nice quiet girl. She’ll stay home and you can live your life as you want. She adds, and if you have children, your grandfather will finally leave us alone. Nothing has to change, I promise.

Do you understand what you’re saying, Ferit replies, are you crazy? I have to bow my head because grandpa wants? You have no choice, Gulgun says. I could go to the US, if grandpa doesn’t send me first, he answers. Seems you forgot how it is here, Gulgun reminds him, reality is here, not there. You can’t even go to another city without credit cards in your pocket.

I will be unhappy, very unhappy, Ferit responds, don’t you care about my life? I didn’t come here to convince you, but to warn you, Gulgun says. Go out and get some fresh air. And you should think about why things have come to this point.

Edit: Hattuc picks out nice dresses for the girls to wear at the market. Suna wants to make sure she has the fancier dress to wear. Hattuc gives them empty shopping bags and tells them to buy some cheap fabrics, just to make them look full.

golden
#1 part 4

Esme and the girls put on a good show at the market. Seyran asks Suna to cover for her. She’ll only be 5 minutes. Tell mom I went to buy the fabric. Suna does as Seyran asks.

Edit: Ferit goes out on the family boat with Abidin. He can’t remember how that girl got into his room. Am I crazy? Abidin tells him, you couldn’t even walk, let alone sleepwalk. Who brought her to my room, Ferit asks. We’ll find out soon, Abidin replies. Ferit says that she was just one out of several girls. Out of a hundred girls, Abidin jokes. Ferit notes that this is the first time he is innocent. The truth will come out. I believe in justice. Abidin snarks, will that be before or after the wedding? End edit.

Ferit is at the gym swimming pool. He makes eye contact with a girl. He swims over to her. Abidin has coffee while he waits for Ferit. He gets a phone call. He’s got news on the girl.

Abidin goes looking for Ferit in the locker room. Ferit calls out, I’m about to take a shower, and opens the door. Abidin says he found out about the girl. Her mother cleans Pelin’s house. Ferit tells Abidin to wait in the car. He’ll be there in a bit. Abidin wants to inform Orhan. Ferit says no, let me talk to Pelin first.

Ferit gets back to the shower and the girl from the pool who’s with him. She’s disappointed and asks, do you have to go? He smiles, there’s still time for a shower. He turns on the water, unties her top and gets to business.

Seyran leaves the market and heads to a park. She meets a young man there. He gripes she kept him waiting long. She answers it isn’t easy for her to get away. I really missed you, he says, if it weren’t for your sister, we wouldn’t be able to see each other. What does this have to do with my sister, Seyran asks, I came here. She’s shy.

The guy asks, so, have you found anyone for your sister yet? Seyran gives him a slap on the arm and a frown. She tells him to watch his words. Isn’t this true, he asks, do you go shopping just to buy fabrics? Let her get married, then it will be our turn. Don’t talk nonsense, Yusuf, Seyran replies, we need to pass our exams first. Yusuf says he forgot to bring a book to her. She says she must go but she will try to leave the house tomorrow if he brings the book. He quickly gives her a little kiss on cheek. She swats him. She’s flustered. She warns, don’t do that again. But she smiles after she walks away.

The fake shopping trip continues. It’s sad. This is the life they should have but can’t. Seyran makes an excuse that they need to head home. Nothing is bought as directed from Kazim.

Ferit is at Pelo’s place. I can’t believe that woman, Pelo exclaims. Ferit figures that she must have heard them while she cleaned. That’s how she knew to get in. I wondered why she wasn’t answering my calls, Pelo says. She sits next to Ferit and apologizes. It’s not your fault, he says, people are crazy.

Pelo thinks Halis will forgive Ferit. Maybe he won’t want to find someone to marry you. Maybe he will let you choose who you marry. She says she can testify on his behalf if needed. He’s not sure if that will help. It’s totally up to his grandfather. Pelin says if he wants someone from Antep, she’ll gladly move there. He gets up to leave. She complains they didn’t get to do anything. He gives her a quick kiss and tells her he’ll see her tomorrow.

The Sanli ladies are back from their shopping trip. They return with groceries in those fancy shopping bags. A bag has ripped under the weight of onions and potatoes. Don’t let auntie see, Esme worries.

golden
#1 part 5

Seyran bristles. I’m so embarrassed, mom. We lie so people think we spent a lot. Don’t say that, Esme replies, we don’t want to fall in the eyes of others. No, mom, Seyran continues, dad spends money on himself, on his guests. And us? We eat leftovers! Esme warns her to be quiet.

Hattuc walks into the kitchen. What are you doing here? You’re in the kitchen and haven’t changed your clothes yet? She shoos them out to change quickly and then start the cooking, it’s almost evening.

Esme serves Kazim and his guests. They make a deal on a land sale. Esme has the girls take the leftovers away. They chow down in the kitchen. They were lucky this time, there was a lot left. Esme comes to join them.

Contrast that with a Korhan family dinner. There is good news. The girl’s mother has dropped the case. She panicked that her game would be revealed and she’d possibly get prison time. Orhan considers it settled.

Ferit looks nervous, waiting for the ax to fall. Halis gives him a withering look. At least something good came of this, Halis says. He asks Ifakat if she has any suitable marriage candidates. Yes, she says, I spread the word and plan to go to Antep tomorrow to see for myself. Gulgun asks, why such a rush? Halis slams his hand on the table. Since when do people start talking before I’m finished? Come to your senses, everyone! Halis gets up and everyone at the table rises.

Ferit pleads with his father. Dad, please, Pelin said she’d testify. The case has been closed. Orhan shuts him down. Enough. How many times has this happened? You’ve run out of chances. There’s no turning back. Ferit leaves the table.

Edit: Sultan brings coffee to Ifakat’s room. Ifakat asks her to pack her bag for the Antep trip. She also asks Sultan to be her ears and eyes while she’s away. Tell me all that happens above and below. No worries, Sultan replies, as long as our ağa is in charge, no one will be able to disrupt your order. Ifakat whispers to herself, as long as our aga is in charge…

Another edit: the yali is shut down for the evening. We see Sultan shutting the lights and heading to her quarters, Ferit pondering his fate, the Sanli sister having a tickle fight, and Latif locking the doors.

Song: Kimseye Etmem Şikayet/I Don’t Complain to Anyone - Müzeyyen Senar
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDIBU25z6X4
There are Turkish lyrics in the drop down. You should be able to translate.

Latif knocks on Ifakat’s door. He tells her that Halis aga is in pain. He asked to see you. Ifakat goes back into the room. Orhan is in her bed! At this hour, he wonders, why is this your business? He doesn’t want anyone else to see him like this, she replies. This isn’t the first time, he says, and it’s beginning to annoy me. She warns, don’t say anything you’ll regret later. Don’t confuse me with your wife. Go back to her before she wakes up.

Latif brings a basin and water to Halis’ room. Ifakat enters behind him. He sends Latif off for the night. Ifakat starts to take off her robe. Halis sheepishly tells her not to take it off— you’ll catch a cold. This is awkward.

Asuman cries and Fuat comforts her. Don’t cry, he says, the meds are affecting you. We are young, we will get through this. One day we will hold our baby in our arms. I don’t think so, she replies, the doctor says the cysts have multiplied. The ovaries must be removed. He suggests they get a second opinion. Don’t lose hope.

Ifakat is done soaking Halis’ feet. [yuck] He asks her, how long has it been since you’ve been back to Antep? I’ve lost count, she replies. Have you missed it, he asks. How can I not, she answers. He tells her to choose a family that is worthy and someone that will please our troublemaker. Trust me, she says.

golden
#1 part 6

Edit: Seyran begs her mother to let her meet Yusuf to get the book. Esme is hesitant. She notes that Kazim won’t let her go to college. But Seyran reminds her he’s letting her take the entrance exam. Esme relents—okay wait till dad goes out. We find out that Seyran has Yusuf’s cell number saved as a girlfriend named “Dilan.” They also edited her meeting Yusuf. Not sure if that will show up later, but I can comment on that in another post if you want.

Zahide, the matchmaker, shows up at the Sanli konak and wants to speak with Hattuc. It’s important. The Korhan DIL will come for the sake of their youngest grandson. Kazim gets excited. He quickly ushers Zahide inside. This is something that can’t be discussed on the street.

Suna tries to spy on the convo between her aunt and Zahide. Esme chases her away—they will think you are a crazy, desperate woman. Suna is ecstatic thinking she has a chance to marry a Korhan grandson.

Edit: Hattuc calls Suna and Seyran. Esme is preparing the bathtub. Hattuc tells Suna to get undressed. Suna doesn’t understand. Let’s see you before the Korhan DIL sees you in the hammam so we won’t be ashamed later. Esme says, come on, kızım, that’s how it’s done. Hattuc says they are going tomorrow. Seyran helps Suna undress. Hattuc tells Seyran to give her sister a good bath. She has to be clean when she’s viewed. Seyran proceeds to give Suna a good scrubbing under the watchful eye of Hattuc.

We are at the hammam. There’s music and dancing. Ifakat is sitting with Zahide. She scans the young girls in attendance. Suna and Seyran sit next to Hattuc. Suna claps to the music. Seyran doesn’t look happy to be there.

A girl comes over and wants Suna to come to the middle of the floor and dance. Hattuc nods permission. Suna tries to make eye contact with Ifakat. Another girl comes over to Seyran, but she doesn’t want to get up and dance. Ifakat notices this and asks Zahide, who is that girl? Zahide says it’s Kazim’s younger daughter. But her older sister would suit you well. That’s why I’ve brought her here. Kazim has known Halis Aga a long time.

Ifakat knows who Kazim is. He sometimes sends gifts to Istanbul. Zahide says Kazim’s father was the richest landowner around. However, after his death, Kazim hasn’t worked the land and has been selling it. But the family is well respected. I’ve known Suna since she was a child. She’s a good girl. The father raised his girls with private tutors, taught them the traditions. They barely leave the house. No man has ever touched them.

Ifakat nods to an attendant. She brings Suna before Ifakat. She takes Suna’s hair down and removes her wrap. Suna is standing naked. Seyran rolls her eyes in a mix of irritation and embarrassment. Hattuc looks on with an approving smile.

They edited what I think is an interesting father – son conversation. Orhan goes to Ferit’s room. Ferit is feeling very sorry for himself. Orhan asks, can we talk? Ifakat Yenge has found a suitable girl. Orhan has empathy since he also learned he would get married from Latif. It’s hard, he says, especially when you are so young. I understand how you feel. Ferit gives a weak smile and asks, is there anything else you want to say?

Orhan thinks, then says, I’ve been unfair to myself and your mother for years. I’ll tell you don’t do that. Give the woman you’re marrying a chance, without prior judgement. Try to love her. Look at your wife with great intentions, and start your marriage beautifully.

Ferit asks, didn’t you ever dream of something else, dad? Another life? Orhan is wistful. Son, he answers, we can only dream. I don’t have the strength left for anything else. End edit.

golden
#1 part 7

Other edits: Hattuc gives Zahide gold for a job well done. Kazim is overjoyed that the Korhans are coming to ask for Suna. He hugs Suna and kisses her on the forehead. She’s stunned because her father has never shown such affection. He’s thrilled that the investments he’s made in the girls have paid off. Seyran has mixed feelings. She’s happy her sister is getting her wish, but she’s also losing her sister.

Ferit, his parents, and Abidin arrive at the hotel in Antep and are greeted by Ifakat.

Seyran asks Suna how it felt when dad hugged her. It was strange, she replies. He doesn’t even look me in the eye, but he hugged me. I think he finally remembers he has 2 daughters in this house. Seyran says, not 2, only 1. He hasn’t thought about me yet. Let dad send me to university, I want nothing else. End edits.

At breakfast, Gulgun asks, are we going to ask this evening? Ifakat says, that’s tomorrow night, but Kazim Bey wants to see us today. Of course, Orhan replies, he wants to see who he’s giving his daughter to. Ferit asks to be excused from the table. Orhan tells him to call Abidin and let him take you around town.

Hattuc calls Seyran. She tells her to take dresses for cleaning and go to Vakkas Usta (master) and give him my regards. We need 2 baklava pans for tomorrow. One with pistachios and one with walnuts. Be sure to ask Vakkas Usta and not the employees.

Ferit and Abidin walk around town. Seyran runs her errands.

Translation: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/ceylan-antebin-hamamlari-english
We also heard this song in the hammam scene.

Seyran walks into the baklava shop. She knocks over a bucket of pistachios. She apologizes profusely. I’ll pick them up, she tells the clerk, please get Vakkas Usta and tell him Kazim aga’s daughter is here. Seryan bends and starts to gather the pistachios.

Ferit and Abidin walk down the street. Abidin gets a call from the hotel. Ferit says he’s going to get some pistachios. He stands in the doorway of the baklavacı and sees Seyran. He takes off his sunglasses and smiles at her—halo, pardon, antep fistığı var mı? (Do you have pistachios?) He looks at the floor and jokes, I guess you don’t. She looks up at him, what did you say? He bends down to her level—I said, “do you have pistachios”?

Seyran frowns, what are you saying? Are you drunk? She stands up. So does he. What happened, he asks, is this how you treat people in Antep? She looks at him and scowls. If it’s fitting, she replies. We treat people as they deserve. She turns to look straight ahead. He asks, and if it doesn’t fit?

And we are out.

Golden Boy - Poder y traicion
Episode 1 Comments

Great summary, Dondi. I always appreciate the cut parts and the music info you so kindly provide us.

I noticed Kazim gave the girls money to shop and counted out about four TL bills, then thought better and held one back. That shows his character. He sees the daughters as an investment. I can’t believe their (girls and their mother) only food is what’s left over . They do all the housework. (They have no staff.) But because the girls never go out, they are considered valuable on the marriage market having apparently been with no man. Also interesting that Kazim is holding out for an offer from a good family and won’t accept one from a family he considers beneath him.

Hattuc inspecting her niece’s body (one of the edits) first was interesting. Later the public inspection by the Korhan women in the hammam (bath). Wow is all I can say!!! Like a slave auction.

Interesting that Ifakat, widow of oldest Korhan son, apparently has carved out a niche of power by sleeping with her brother-in-law and may have done so with her father-in-law. Now she washes his feet and cares for him.

Saving face is very important for Sanli family. They pretend to shop and fill designer shopping bags with things from the market.

I liked the advice to Ferit from his father to give his wife a chance and support her. Apparently Orhan feels some guilt for Gulgun and his unfulfilling marriage.

I thought the beginning scene was startling but apparently Ferit uses the balcony often. Funny the stealth extortion attack was from an employee of Pelin who overheard about the balcony entrance. Ferit lives on the wild side.

Thanks for a great start! I’ll do episode 2 tomorrow.

Episode 1 comments. I tried downloading the Telemundo app to my desktop computer and it didn't work. It did work on my phone. When I tried to view Epi #1 on my phone, I kept moving backward, but it only went back to Epi #6. Gave up on that. Then I went to Peacock on my desktop computer, searched for Poder y Traición and bingo! I thought I had Premium on Peacock, but maybe not. In any case it was great to watch the first episode at my home desk, fairly close to my monitor. And, I think because it's streaming, I can choose between English and Spanish subtitles, something I cannot do on my more than 10-year-old TV.m There were commercials. Maybe I can see if it's the same on my television; i.e., maybe the Roku on my TV knows I'm premium and the computer does not. I worked on getting to Genius on Spelling Bee while the commercials ran.

When the episode began, I thought maybe Ferit did know the girl, and she was obsessed with him. She surely stared at him longingly for one who was just part of a scam. At least Orhan grasped that Ferit might have been set up.

Oh boy, another Turkish head of family who's a tyrant and a bully. I have the sense that I might have seen the Ifakat actor before in another dizi. I hadn't quite grasped who was married to who, and was shocked when your recap, dondi, said Orhan was in bed with his sister-in-law.

Kazim is the worst. I can't understand why his unmarried aunt is the Queen Bee and his wife and children eat leftovers. When the family was first introduced, I thought Esme was the servant.

Wow! The girls go shopping with their mother so as to be on display and to buy nothing. I didn't fully grasp what was going on there until I read the recap. Seyran said out loud how she disliked Suna's dress to play the game. And then she comforted her sister who badly wanted that dress.

I thought Iftakat had come to "service" the old goat in another way.

I have to think about when I could recap. This week doesn't look good for me. Tomorrow I'll be watching Lobo and recapping. I might get to watch Episode 2 or might not.

Thanks a million, dondi, for such a great intro to all these folks and what's going on. I pasted and copied your cast list into Word and had it in front of me while I watched on my computer.

6.) Bus stop: Paco, Angela & Carlos have no idea what's coming their way as Paco is plotting something sinister against them.

7.) Back at the prison: We see La Mamba getting hostile with Officer Castillo & La Mamba starts a huge fire in the kitchen, which spreads across the prison.

8.) Chaos ensues inside the prison.

9.) We go straight into another diet of commercial breaks on Telemundo.

10.) While riding in the van-cab, Lucy's thugs ambush Paco, Angela & Carlos as they're forced into the truck.

11.) We see Paco, Angela & Carlos held at gunpoint at Lucy's so-called HQ & Angela rightfully blasted Horacio for betraying the Casillas family.

12.) We see the Annoying TV News Reporter reporting on the prison fire.

"CASILLAS"/OT
Dondi356, Kat in SC, Babachita, Kirby, Novelera, Elvira & Halimacandy: I will be posting Part II of my recap of last night's Gran Final later today.

Dondi, wow, I knew I was confused in that first episode, figured the girl was a set up but didn't realize she was Pelin's maid. It usually takes me a couple of weeks to sort out characters and the Turkish names makes it even more challenging. I'll try to rewatch these early episodes as the recaps are posted, I got to episode 10, I think, then it was decided that a patio would form so I quit watching.

Your recaps are so helpful. I could try to do one a week but fair warning, it will be more of a summary.

I actually feel sorry for Ferit being forced into an arranged marriage. I don't really understand the need for it to be with a country girl from grandpa’s hometown though. Are arranged marriages still common in Turkey?

"CASILLAS" GRAN FINAL RECAP (PART II)
13.) Back at Casillas Family HQ: We see the usual folks present: Ismael, Ulysses, Tata, Skinny, Jorge & other folks. They discuss the strategy in bringing down General Cifuentes & rescuing Isidro.

14.) In my personal opinion, I still believe Isabel set up Isidro to get arrested. I'll be shocked if we see her again next season when "SENOR" returns.

15.) Speaking of Isidro, we see Cifuentes' lackey soldiers escalating their torture of Isidro at the detention center.

16.) Nutty Lucy is plotting more craziness against Carlos & Angela (who needs to join the convent at the Vatican at this point).

17.) We see Parcero (apologies for butchering his name) begging Whacky Vic to kill him. Vic is of course, pissed off at Ofelia, etc.,

18.) Over at Rancho's he & his bodyguard crew pack their belongings & other bags in a bid to flee, but before he leaves his ranch: he calls Ligia & unsuccessfully tries to give her information about Cifuentes, etc., when she calls his bluff & hangs up on him LOL.

19.) More steady diet of commercial breaks on Telemundo.

20.) Another diet of commercial breaks ensue, including previews for "LOS FAMOSAS" & "LOBO" (which will be in the 9:00 PM CST timeslot tonight).

21.) Over at the burning prison facility, we see Leo, Hothead Diana & Co., disguised as firefighters arriving in the firetruck. We also see everyone else looking on.

22.) Whacky Vic has flashbacks of being tortured as he kills Parcero by hanging him on a tree, right in front of a shocked Ofelia.

23.) Leo & Co., rescue La Mamba, but when they tried to get Lizzie out of there, Lizzie refuses due to her so-called belief in some weird analogy, which pisses off Leo & Hothead Diana, who tells Lizzie that President Serrano would prefer seeing Lizzie & Co., dead, etc.,

24.) Of course, Lizzie gets beaten up by other female prisoners as the fire is engulfing the prison.

25.) Rancho & his crew arrive at the Military Police headquarters, where General Cifuentes has to stage Rancho getting arrested & put into "detention".

Hi Kat! We are finally launched!

I think the set-up girl was the daughter of an employee of Pelin.

I’m working on tonight’s summary. It will be long because we’re just getting started. I think short ones are fine. Dondi might work up a schedule. I can do one long or two shorter ones a week.

"CASILLAS" GRAN FINAL (Part III)
26.) Back at Casillas Family HQ: Ismael & Co., are notified about La Mamba being rescued by Leo, Hothead Diana & Co.,

27.) We see Paco & Slippery Horacio on the aircraft flying somewhere, but just as Paco is speaking with Hothead Diana over the phone, Horacio freaks out because the only pilot of the plane dies of a medical issue & tells Paco that the pilot is dead.

28.) Hothead Diana overhears what's going on & asks Paco what's going on. Knowing this is really the last time they're going to speak to each other, Paco tells Hothead Diana that he loves her & she tells him she loves him back. We see neither Horacio nor Paco should've at least tried to get control of the freaking plane OMG by flying it.

29.) Hothead Diana is angrily furious at both Leo & La Mamba, when they find out about Paco's likely fatal plane crash. Of course, Hothead Diana tries to attack La Mamba but Leo intervenes & tries to calm her down, offering Diana his condolences.

30.) It doesn't take long for Hothead Diana to figure out this was none other than Nutty Lucy's idea.

31.) Meanwhile over at the so-called mining area, we see Lucy's thugs arrive in the truck: with Carlos & Angela & I've got a feeling Lucy has more sinister plans in store for Carlos & Angela.

32.) Right on cue, we see Lucy pointing her gun at both Carlos & Angela---by forcing them to dig out the rocks & getting the money, etc., but Carlos & Angela are repulsed by the awful odor as they see Tibero's decomposing body. Lucy is gawking at all of the money, etc.,

33.) In the meantime, we see Tata speaking with Whacky Vic & Ofelia over the phone about Ismael & Co's rescuing plans, etc.,

34.) Ismael, Ulysses, Skinny, Computer Dude, Cowboy Buddy, Jorge & Co., are hiding in one of the military trucks as the truck arrives at the Military Police Headquarters.

35.) Meanwhile over at the US Embassy Complex in Mexico City: We see Ligia officially confirming that La Mamba is the biological daughter of General Cifuentes.

36.) Following this, we see Ligia & Roberta making out.

37.) We see Whacky Vic & Ofelia getting inside the military truck, joining Ismael & Co.,

38.) Shootout takes place between Ismael & Co., against Cifuentes' soldiers.

"CASILLAS" GRAN FINAL (Part IV)
39.) Before one of the soldiers die, he presses the emergency button, which goes off.

40.) There's a surprise twist: General Cifuentes shoots Rancho right in the back & keeps walking as Rancho is bleeding to death.

41.) We also see Whacky Vic & Ofelia shooting other soldiers during this time, while the emergency alarms are going off.

42.) The Annoying TV News Reporter still annoying with her constant over-the-top reporting LOL.

43.) Just as General Cifuentes is speaking with someone about getting a military helicopter in trying to flee the place, Ismael points his gun at him.

44.) We get to endure another special diet of commercial breaks on Telemundo.

45.) During the commercial breaks, we see previews for "HOY DIA".

46.) Following the commercial breaks, we go right back to the Gran Final of "CASILLAS" & we see Ismael & General Cifuentes taunting insults before Ismael shoots Cifuentes in the right wrist, left leg & I think somewhere else.

47.) Ismael demands to know where are Aurelio & Rutila? Cifuentes launches more insults.

48.) We see Ismael & Skinny searching the prison cells, before they rescue Isidro & Isturiz.

49.) Ismael & Co., leave the Military Police Headquarters.

50.) President Serrano visits Lizzie at the prison infirmary. We later see President Serrano holding a press conference, which was attended by Roberta & the Annoying TV News Reporter.

51.) We also see Laura & Santita at one of the undisclosed locations, but Santita runs into someone looking like Aurelio & Laura also sees her father-in-law. Plus, we see the previews for Season 10 of "SENOR DE LOS CIELOS" with the return of Aurelio Casillas.

#1 edits

Thanks, everyone! A lot happened in the first ep and we didn’t even get to see it all. It’s a shame they make these edits, especially in the first few episodes. We don’t get proper insight into the characters and their settings.

We didn’t fully see Suna’s excitement about the pending marriage. She looked up the Korhans on her phone and gushed over their luxurious home and found a pic of her handsome groom. The girl was on cloud nine. Seyran couldn’t understand her sister’s enthusiasm on marrying a stranger, no matter how rich or handsome.

Ferit is at Pelin’s and they are in bed. She wants after sex cuddles and tells him, I love you. He just glares at the ceiling and removes her hand from his face. She realizes he’s thinking about the marriage. He rolls his eyes, gets out of bed and gets dressed. I came her to forget, he says, don’t remind me. She says she’s not bothered by the marriage, but if he wants to break up…

Ferit warns Pelo, don’t start crying. Don’t be so dramatic. I have too many other problems, and I can’t deal with you, too. I’d say if I wanted to break up. Pelin thinks any other girl wouldn’t be so understanding. Maybe he should appreciate her.

What do want from me, Ferit snarks, you want me to sing songs to you? Maybe you will someday, she replies and pulls him in for a quick peck on the lips. He leaves. She tears up.

Seyran meets Yusuf in the park. I wish it was always like this, Yusuf says, just the two of us. He tries to hold her hand, she moves it away. He tells her he loves her and can’t get enough of her. You can love without touching, she replies. What’s the big deal if I touch you, he asks, you’re going to be my wife.

He reaches for her shoulder, she moves away. He continues, I’m going to come ask for you after your sister is married. She fires back, so my father can kill us both? He answers, if anything happens, we’ll run away. I will take care of you, my dear wife. I can take care of myself, Seyran asserts, I’ll go to university and tell my father everything. He tries for a kiss on the cheek—do you love me that much? She gets up and says she has to go.

Ifakat shops at the market. She’s got staff following her with the purchases. There are people who recognize her and greet her like a celebrity.

I can’t decide if Kazim is more ambitious or opportunistic. Maybe a toxic mix of both. I think we all agree he’s a horror. You should hear him in Turkish, howling with that regional accent. Hattuc is not much better. You would think she’d at least have some sympathy for her nieces.

Yes, novelera, another Grandpa Tyrant like we had in Hercai. And speaking of Hercai, the Ifakat actor played the scheming Sultan Aslanbey in that dizi. This actress specializes in this type of role.

Kat, there are still arranged/forced marriages. More so in Southeastern – Eastern Türkiye. And unfortunately, there are still honor killings. Grandpa wants a nice, traditional girl for Ferit. Scandal free and hopefully she will calm Ferit down.

Interesting that you feel sorry for Ferit. He’s so spoiled. There was another edit where Ferit complained to Abidin about his room being “changed” after marriage. Abidin laughed and said what will change? Only the room. You’ll just sign the papers. You’ll still have your credit cards, cars, money in your pocket. You can still go out and have fun. He called Ferit a whiner.

Babachita, I’d like to have a set schedule, so we know what to expect. I like what you proposed so hopefully we can follow that format. No pressure on anyone to commit to recaps or summaries, long or short, right away. Let’s see how the first week or so goes. We had 3 nights covered for Lejos and that worked out fine.

Thanks, Steve, for your gran final recap and for all the recaps. I only paid slight attention to this season.

Yes, why didn’t Horacio or Paco try to fly the plane. I would have tried. La Presidenta said that there was one survivor of the crash, in critical condition. Please let it be Paco.

La Presidenta lied that Lizzie died in the prison fire. Now Lizzie’s got a new life complete with a disguise? She also outed Cifuentes as having deep narco ties. He’s a fugitive.

Diana stabbed Lucy in the heart. Hope she’s really dead.

Gancho is really dead.

I don’t think Cifuentes is dead. He opened his eyes at the end.

Glad they rescued Isturiz. I thought there were others the general had in the fort.

Isidro is an annoying little brat.

Well, Victor got his revenge Parcero. Left his body for the vultures. He made peace with Carlos. I like his partnership with Ofelia.

Get rid of that irritating reporter and bring Carla back.

El Cabo is still alive somewhere and Aurelio has returned!

LOL, we’re getting ESDLC #10!

Perhaps all the cuts are to fit the time frame of this dizi finishing by July when the second part of Lejos de Ti will return. I'm actually pretty surprised Lejos did so well that they're giving us more.

Dondi, those were SEVERE cuts. Without your Turkish insight we would not know how disappointed Suna is going to be when she's not the bride. That's not a spoiler, exactly, it's the whole theme of the show...wrong bride. And we'd not have known exactly that Pelin and Ferit were having sex and that she was in love with him.

I can also think of a reason why some of these cuts might have been made. After all, this dizi might need to somewhat conform to the usual telenovela audience, Spanish speaking females who likes romance. Or that's what I think they think! The Ferit actor is gorgeous. Maybe they didn't want us to see his rather callous treatment of Pelin.

“…this dizi might need to somewhat conform to the usual telenovela audience…” This is a pet peeve of mine. Don’t we non-Latinos appreciate and enjoy the language and culture in TNs? These characters are Turkish. Let them be Turkish. I think they’re selling the audience short. I’ve learned a lot about Turkish culture and language over the years. Anyway, TNs might have more explicit sex scenes, but dizis make up for it in the romance dept. Rant over.

It’s a mistake not to fully show Ferit and Pelin’s relationship. It’s clear he doesn’t love her and he doesn’t take the relationship seriously. He sleeps with other girls. That’s why I referred to Pelin as Ferit’s friend with benefits in my description.

Yes, novelera, Mert Ramazan Demir (Ferit) is gorgeous.

Episode 2 #1
The Big Day

In Gaziantep (to find Ferit a “suitable” country girl), Ferit and Abidin are walking on a street past lots of restaurants, shops, and cafes. Across the street, Seyran enters Vakkaz Usta’s’s baklavaci to order the baklava that Aunt Hattuc wanted and promptly knocks over a basket of pistachios. She apologizes to the clerk and says she will clean it up immediately, although the clerk says he will do it. She gets down to help. While Abidin answers a call, Ferit enters the baklavaci to buy some pistachios. He sees Seyran kneeling with the overturned nuts and smiles at her. Their eyes meet and they make a connection. This is quickly undone when he asks if she has any pistachios (intended as a joke, as the floor is covered with pistachios). He speaks to her as if she works at the shop. “This is how you treat visitors in Antep?” She tells him they treat them as they deserve to be treated. He tells her he should take her to Istanbul so she can learn some manners and customer service. She tells him he is grosero. Then the store worker returns and tells her he has told Vakkaz Usta. Ferit apologizes, telling her he thought she worked there. Vakkaz Usta enters and asks angrily why nuts are all over the floor. Then he recognizes Seyran and smiles and greets her effusively. She apologizes for turning over the basket by accident. They engage in some small talk, and she places the baklava order that her aunt asked for. Ferit is watching her intently during this interchange. He smiles. She leaves the store, not quite rolling her eyes at Ferit as she leaves. He, on the other hand, is enchanted. He completes his pistachio order just as Abidin enters to tell him his father needs him. After they leave, Vakkaz Usta testily tells his clerk to clean up that mess!

Ferit looks around for Seyran as he follows Abidin. Later we see a caravan of very important vehicles arrive at a hotel. It’s the Korhan family: Orhan, Gulgun, Ifakat, Ferit, Fuat, Asuman and more. As they enter, they are greeted by Kazim Sanli and his family: Esme and Hattuc. Kazim calls for an assistant to put a spot of blood from the sacrificed animal (just done on location for the occasion, probably a sheep or goat) on Ferit’s forehead. We hear Turkish music as they follow their host. Later we see a sumptuous banquet on an outdoor patio, complete with belly dancers. Ferit no longer has the blood spot on his forehead. The families are relaxed, discussing traditions as they get to know one another. Ferit is feeling no pain and shakes his shoulders along with the belly dancers.

Afterwards, we see Asuman sleeping in their hotel room, but Fuat is up looking out the window, and listening to music on his earphones.

Back in Istanbul, Sultan walks down the hall to Ferit’s room, enters and touches the bed, remembering previous encounters. She falls back and lies there, obviously overcome with sadness and emotion. We are treated to some of the wonderful music from this dizi. Sultan ends up sleeping there in a fetal position.

Back in Antep, Abidin helps Ferit into his bathroom and works to sober him up. Ferit says: I’m not married yet. I’m still single. Let’s go out. Abidin plays along but gets him on the bed. He then tests his blood sugar and gives him some insulin. Ferit is mumbling about pistachios as he falls asleep.

It’s morning, and Sultan is still sleeping on Ferit’s bed in Istanbul. Latif finds her there and puts his hand over her mouth as he wakes her. He tells her to be quiet. She tells him she’s sorry, she fell asleep. Latif gives her a powerful Ottoman slap. He tells her he won’t tell on her out of respect, but not for pity. He tells her he doesn’t want to lose her to a fantasy. He tells her to change before anyone sees her.

Episode 2 #2

At the Sanli home in Antep, Seyran and Suna are still sleeping. Esme wakes Seyran, telling her they have lots to do. She tells her to let Suna sleep: She needs her beauty sleep. Seyran comments that Suna now has value. Esme says that Allah will bless Suna with a life of wealth. Seyran makes a wry face as she rises: I don’t know whether you’re praying or cursing her, Mama. Seyran dresses in an attractive green dress and next we see her scrubbing the living room floor on her knees with a bucket and sponge. Hattuc enters and tells her that her father hired people for this. Seyran is surprised and then offers to help the kitchen staff (also hired) to prepare the food. [We get the feeling that her daily life is like that of a maid, shopping, scrubbing, cleaning.] Hattuc tells her they hired the food prep out also: We can’t give the Korhans the stuff your mother makes. Eat something and stay out of the way. Hattuc gives her the key to the pantry (that is usually locked so that Esme and daughters can’t get into it). She tells her not to forget the baklava. In the kitchen, Esme and Seyran joke that Esme can finally be the lady of the house, since Kazim hired catering for this event.

In the hotel lobby, Abidin is drinking coffee. Ferit approaches, dark glasses, very rumpled. Ferit jokes that Abidin is always taking care of him, washing his face before bed. Abidin says he has no other option but to do so. Ferit reminisces about last night, the first night he got to drink with his father: It’s OK, now that I’m getting married. My father on one side and, on the other, my father-in-law. Abidin says it looks like he likes his father-in-law. Ferit says he doesn’t talk much, but he pleases him. Abidin tells him they will get to know each other, not to worry. Ferit says he doesn’t feel well. Abidin tells him he talked about his future wife when he was sleeping last night. Ferit is surprised. Abidin says: pistachios. [I looked up pistachios in Turkish. Antep Fistigi is what comes up. So, I’m guessing that pistachios are plentiful in Gaziantep.] Ferit is surprised he said that while he was sleeping. He smiles and gets a faraway look. Later he asks Abidin what time it is. Avidin tells him 9:30. Ferit is restless and wants to go out. Abidin tells him he will take him. Ferit says it’s better if he goes alone. Help me out, please. Abidin asks what about his father? Ferit tells him to hide from him for a while. He will look for Abidin later. Ferit: My last wish before getting married.
Abidin gives him the car keys and tells him he has an hour. Ferit promises. Abidin tells him he is going to his room.

Seyra is walking toward Vakkaz Usta’s store and hears Ferit going on about baklava and pistachios. He has a platter of ones with nuts and another of ones with pistachios, and he is sharing with the kids on the street. He tells Seyra: I didn’t forget.
Seyra: What are you talking about? That was my baklava!
He tells the kids to take them all.
Seyra: Why did you do that?
Ferit: I’m sorry. I was trying to get your attention. It worked.
Seyra: Angrily, What’s wrong with you?
They trade insults for a bit. He tells her he likes seeing her upset. Now he can go in peace.
Vakkaz Usta recognizes her and calls out: Seyran?
She asks why he gave someone else her baklava. He tells her that he didn’t. Hers is inside.
Seyran is speechless. Ferit: Vakkaz Usta, I tried to tell her. All the baklava for her! She’s obsessed with me.
Vakkaz Usta says something like Allah Allah!
The two young people stand staring at one another. Seyran: You’ll regret bumping into me again.
Ferit just grins at her.

Episode 2 #3
She takes her baklava back to their home. As she enters, Seyran is called “Miss” by a servant, something new to her. Her mother comes down the stairs and asks where she was. She tells her she just got there. Her mother tells her the hair stylist is there, to put the baklava away and go find her sister. She takes the baklava into the kitchen and offers to help. They don’t need her help. This not being the servant is new to her. She finds her sister being made up Seyran tells her she looks beautiful. Seyran praises the stylists. The tell her after they are done, then they will do Seyran and her mother.
The large living room is being prepared for the traditional ceremony. Windows are cleaned, delicious food is displayed including the baklava. Evening falls, and the lights are turned on. Even grumpy Kazim exclaims about the beautiful night with the stars lighting up the sky. Mother and daughters hug. We see the Korhan caravan approach the building. [I notice the streets are very narrow, pretty much one way only.] Neighbors are watching the arrival. As the Korhans walk toward Kazim, he cries out, Welcome! Orhan first, then Ferit comes bearing lovely flowers. Ferit stands for an awkward moment, and then gives the kiss of respect on Kazim’s hand. They are led up the stone stairs to the living room. Suna is peeking through curtains from the first floor. Seyran is looking at candies in a box and sampling them. Mother and sister tell Suna to calm down. They tell her she will have the rest of her life to see him. Suna wants to know where he sat. Esme tells her she will see when she takes the coffee. The helpers are told they can start serving the food. The sisters engage in some minor horseplay. Esme tells them not to leave this kitchen until she tells them to. She will let them know when it’s time to serve the coffee. Seyran keeps eating, and Suna is afraid there won’t be food left for the guests. Suna is very nervous. Seyran tells her he is just a man at the end of the day. Suna: As if I knew lots of men. I haven’t spent time with men.

Upstairs, the families are sitting in a U shape. Orhan: My father used to visit here often.
Kazim: I’m sure he’ll be back for the wedding. Or we’ll go there to kiss his hand.
Orhan: We haven’t seen our daughter-in-law yet.
Hattuc says she will be coming with coffee soon. Downstairs we see coffee being prepared the traditional way and poured into beautiful porcelain cups with saucers. The tray is arranged with the cups and saucers and crystal fluted water glasses.
Seyran: Come on, sis.
Suna has a panic attack and is shaking. Seyran offers to carry the tray up the stairs for her. She leads her out and across the patio and up the very old stone steps. Suna follows closely. At the top, she gives Suna the tray and tells her she will wait outside there for her. She tells her to be calm. Suna asks Seyran to fix her hair. Then Suna climbs the few steps to the living room carrying the tray. Suna enters and Seryran watches at the door. Seyran offers Orhan coffee. About that time, Ferit looks around and sees Seyran waiting at the door. He grins widely. Suna goes to offer her father coffee. He has his usual creepy expression that gives her no comfort in her time of anxiety. Suddenly, she catches her shoe on the rug and falls, coffee cups and all. It’s a big clatter. Hattuc stands in disbelief. Seyran runs to help her sister. The men look at one another and smile. Seyran gets Suna up but she then runs away. Seyran and her mother clean up the mess. The Korhans make weird faces, all except Ferit who is ecstatic to see Seyran again. He turns to his mother and tells her she’s the woman he wants to marry, not her sister. It’s her he is in love with. Gulgun is surprised and looks alarmed. Kazim notices and asks her if she is OK. She makes faces at Orhan indicating they need to talk. They leave to talk and Ferit is looking happier by the moment. Kazim tells him to drink coffee and leaves Ferit with Ifakat. Everyone else is out of the room.

Episode 2 #4
Time passes. Esme comes back looking worried. Ifakat already looks worried. The power brokers walk back in after the new deal is cut. Hattuc tells Esma to tell Seyran to come upstairs and for Suna not to come. Esme and Seyran walk in. Orhan says: We can’t forget tradition, given we’re here. Do you know why we’re here? I’d like to ask for your daughter Seyran’s hand in marriage on behalf of our son.
Seyran’s eyes get huge at hearing this and her ears are ringing.

Kazim says they have his blessing: All I can say is I hope you’re happy. Come closer, son-in-law.
Hattuc goes to Seyran, who is in shock, and tells her to snap out of it and go kiss her father’s hand. Hattuc: What are you waiting for? Seyran kisses Kazim’s hand, then Orhan’s, Gulgun’s, and Ifakat’s. Gulgun tells her to come over to stand by Ferit, and she has to physically move her. Farit is grinning. Everyone tells them congratulations. Esme smiles at them, but she is no doubt concerned about Suna.
Ferit whispers to her: Here I am, once again. How will you make me regret this?
The rings are brought on the tray.
Later, Kazim, Orhan, and Ferit walk down the stairs. Kazim tells Orhan Seyran is a good girl. I can’t complain. She’s never once disgraced her family. I hope she’ll be like a daughter to you (Orhan), not just a daughter-in-law. Orhan assures him of this. They shake hands. Kazim waits until Ferit remembers to kiss his hand.
Down in the patio, the women are gathered (without Suna, of course). Ifakat congratulates them again. Hattuc says to Seyran that Allah should bless both of them. Seyran gives the respectful kiss to Gulgun and Ifakat. Ferit and Orhan and then bid everyone good night. The Korhan women join them and they leave.
Kazim has a weird expression on his face.

Outside, Ferit tells Abidin to hurry so they can get out of there: I can’t believe I got the younger one!
Abidin hustles and they drive off fast.

Mother and daughter are silent, standing. Esme: Don’t be upset. Let’s wait until tomorrow and everything will be clearer then.
Seyran looks about to explode!
Kazim walks over to them: You got lucky, you know? Thank your father.
Seyran glares at him. She reaches out to Hattuc: Aunt.
Hattuc: There’s no way out. You better not resist. You father made up his mind. That won’t change. I’m sure it’s for the better. And please don’t tell Suna what just happened.
Hattuc walks away.
It dawns on Seyran: My poor sister. She looks up at her room. Suna is pacing back and forth.
Seyran and Esme enter.
Suna: What happened? Why are you crying, sister? Mom, what happened? Did they leave already?
Esme: Yes, they left.
Suna: This can’t be. I can’t believe it. (Suna starts hitting herself in the head.) You ruined it. Why’d you ruin it? (As she’s been taught, she blames herself for what happened.)
Esme: Stop hurting yourself.
Suna asks about her father: He’s furious, right? He must be fuming. Say something. Tell me what happened. Please say something. Did Dad change his mind?
Seyran: Sister, it all happened so fast. So fast, I barely understood. I swear it wasn’t my fault. It happened so fast.
Suna: I don’t understand, Seyran. What happened?
She thinks for a bit and then reaches out to Seyran’s hand and sees the ring. Suna is overcome. Esme: They preferred Seyran. [That’s a cruel thing for a mother to say.]
Suna cries uncontrollably. Seyran reaches for her, but Suna rejects her.
Suna: I’m not getting married. What am I going to do? I’m doomed. I don’t understand. They ruined me.
Seyran: I don’t want to marry that guy. I want you to get married.
Suna: Seyran, who cares if you agree or don’t. I’m hurt. I was rejected. I might never get married.
Lots of crying.

Episode 2 #5

In the vip car, Gulgun wonders how they will explain this to Mr. Halis. Orhan says they don’t need to give explanations. Ferit’s engaged.
Ifakat: We must tell the truth. Tell him what happened.
Orhan: What will you say? “The girl we met was clumsy, and your grandson insisted he marry he younger sister instead?” How do you think he will take that? There’s no explanation.
Ifakat says she can explain it. Gulgun tells Ifakat not to get Ferit into trouble. At least he’s on board now. Ifakat points out that although that’s true, he got his way again. It was humiliating. Orhan asks for whom was it humiliating. They were already willing to marry off their daughters.

Kazim is sitting in a comfortable chair thinking hard and playing with his prayer beads. Hattuc enters. He tells her that the staff needs to be cautioned that no one is to know what happened. Hattuc says she has, but they like to gossip. It will be a miracle if the story doesn’t spread. Kazim doesn’t think there’s a reason to gossip. He thinks they should be grateful that he liked Seyran. There would have been a real problem if they’d left with the ring.
Hattuc asks him what they talked about and what agreements they reached. He claims nothing, but Hattuc reminds him she raised him and knows his ways. What makes all this humiliation worth it, she asks. He smiles and tells her she will see. He tells her she is always asking why he invested so much in the girls. He has a plan. He is sure they both will leave. Hattuc asks how he will pull that off.
Kazim: Seyran is very young. She will miss us. We’ll have to visit Istanbul often. I requested a house. That’s just the beginning. Trust me. We’ll get her settled in, fall for the city and the boy. Let things flow. Once that’s done, I’ll ask for more.
Hattuc: You can’t be sure until you have Mr. Halis’ approval. We don’t know how he’ll take it. I don’t like the groom.
Kazim: Don’t worry. I’ll handle them. You handle the girls. They can’t say a word. The wedding will be in three days.,
Hattuc: Three days? So soon!!!
Kazim: It should have happened sooner. We can’t miss this opportunity.
Hattuc: If you say so. It’s getting late.
She leaves. He calls to her to tell Esme to come rub his feet or he won’t get any sleep.

In their room, Suna is lying down, Esme is holding her hand, comforting her, and Seyran is sitting on the floor next to them. Hattuc enters. She wants to know what’s going on, anyone would think they had had a funeral.
Suna: What did you expect, aunt? Did you expect us to dance and sing?
Hattuc: Maybe you should. Don’t you see you threw your life away because of your clumsiness? Nobody would’ve saved you had this night ended poorly. [These words from the aunt are also not comforting to Suna.]
Suna: What do you expect me to do with my life? They’ll say that clumsy girls wanted to get married?
Hattuc: It’s not a life sentence. Everyone will forget about it in a few days. You’ll be the beautiful girl you’ve always been. The worst you can do is give up. Stop whining.
Seyran: What about me? I don’t want this marriage.
Hattuc: You know exactly what’s going to happen. You’re marrying than man in three days, regardless of how you feel.
Everyone sits up!
Esme: What do you mean three days?
Seyran: Impossible. I’m not leaving home. I’m not leaving my mother or sister.
Hattuc: If it was for school, you wouldn’t hesitate to leave.
Seyran: I’m begging you, aunt, help me. I don’t want to get married, and to a stranger!
Hattuc: Steal once and you’ll be a thief. Kiss once, and you’ll open your legs. It can’t be so terrible. It speaks highly of him, the fact that he’s not picking up girls but rather, a wife. [She must not know about his reputation!]
Seyran stands up: I won’t be his wife! I’d rather die!
Just then Kazim enters: Are you out of your mind? What are you saying?
He goes toward Seyran, and Esme tries to block him from hurting her.

Episode 2 #6
Kazim: Have you forgotten I’m your father? You think I can’t make you?
He grabs her by the hair and yanks hard, then drags her out of the room with him. Hattuc tells him not to do this, but he tells her not to meddle. She says people will hear her screams.
Esme tells Suna to stay there and calm down. Esme follows Hattuc who is following Kazim and Seyran.
Kazim: Walk! Faster. Stop screaming. Since when do you talk back to your father? Get in there. He shoves her into a storeroom and tells Esme not to bring a single glass of water or she will have it worse than Seyran. He locks Seyran in. He tells Hattuc that if Seyran escapes, she will be held responsible.
Kazim: She’s not coming out until I say so!
Hattuc: Congratulation, Esme. He was in a good mood until you upset him.
Hattuc goes to find Kazim. Esme stands by the locked door and sobs: My girl!
Inside the room, Seyran is very impactada.

At a restaurant in Antep, we see Ferit and Abidin laughing at a table.
Ferit: Did you see my mother’s face when I told her? She wanted to run away.
Abidin: You were right. Nobody was expecting that.
Ferit: I saw Seyran come in and went crazy.
Abidin: I’m surprised. You’re never easily impressed at first sight. What happened?
Abidin gets a call that he was expecting. It’s Orhan.
Orhan: Where are you, Abidin. You didn’t return.
Abidin: Not yet. We’ll stay out here for a while.
Orhan: Why?
Abidin: Ferit wanted to have some fun before getting married.
Orhan: Abidin, don’t lose sight of him don’t want him to embarrass us. This is Antep, not Istanbul.
Abidin: Don’t worry. (He can see that Ferit already has some girls with him.)
Orhan: Don’t worry? I know him perfectly well. Get him back to the hotel as soon as possible.
Abidin: The hotel, OK.

At the Sanli home, Suna and Esme are looking at the breakfast trays they have brought back in. Esme tells her to take her father some coffee. Esme has a plate she is putting food on. Esme offers to prepare Suna some food because she hasn’t eaten anything. Suna says she isn’t hungry. Esme tells her not to act that way. She tells her she already has enough to worry about with her sister. Is she hungry? Thirsty?
Suna tells her Seyra never eats breakfast, so probably not hungry.
Esme: Suna, you can’t blame your sister. I was there. She had no idea what was going on.
Suna: When did I blame her? I haven’t said a word since last night! You asked me to get over it, and I’m trying.
Esme: I know you well, hija, I know what you’re thinking. Seyran has nothing to do with this.
Suna has a flashback to the incident when she dropped the tray. She nearly drops the coffee she is making right now.
Sun: It was my fault. I’m to blame. I ruined my chance. It was all my fault. Now I have to accept it.
Esme: Calm down, it wasn’t your fault. It was fate. You better get some rest. I’ll make the coffee.
Suna gets some water and drinks it.

Plothole, whatever happened to Aurelio’s baby daughter Alba. I think they showed her once and never again. Who takes care of her while they are on the run switching houses and all?

On TikTok today Raul who plays Chacorta said his character will not reunite with Aurelio. That the network said no to the idea and he won’t be returning for SDLC10 as the network doesnt want to go in that direction

Lobos

As Google AI says - Lobos stars Arap Bethke as Lobo Rosales, a former detective who becomes the protector of a young girl named Renata, the daughter of a woman he once loved. The series follows their dangerous journey to the border as they flee from criminals who want to exploit Renata for a hidden fortune she holds the key to.

Lobos

Lobos opens with a rich couple Miranda and Gustavo driving to an event. They are afraid of someone. With good reason, as they are soon assassinated.

The bad guys also go to their house. Their 9- or 10-yr old daughter Renata and her nanny Berta escape. Berta takes some info out of the house safe. It has info on Lobo, whom the mother Muranda had a relationship with before her marriage ten years ago. Berta is to take Renata to Lobo for help. They then are to go to Tio Raul at the border. The girl has part of the key to some treasure everyone is after.

Two cops investigate the parents' deaths. Antonia has a bad history with Lobo, because he put her father in prison. Dante (Eugenio in Google cast list) is her boss and is also in with the bad guys.

Actors Eduardo Yañez and Alejandro de la Madrid play bad guys the others report to.

Lobo - Ep 1 continued

Episode end: The cops think Renata has been kidnapped by Berta and Lobo (when actually they are helping her). The three have shown up on CCTV outside Lobo's apartment . The cops pay a visit to Lobo, but he doesn't let them in without a warrant. While the three are getting ready to leave, cop Dante comes back for an extrajudicial visit to Lobo, putting a gun in Lobo's face demanding to he let in. End episode.

Lobo speculation -

I am wondering if Renata is really Lobo's daughter.

Lobo, Morir Matando, Estreno
Part 1 of 7

This telenovela has a cast of many actors I’ve seen before. As usual, Telemundo avoided commercials to better hook us and to make your devoted recapper work very hard.

In Mexico City we see about 5 or 6 armed men entering a sort of warehouse. A bad guy shoots at them and is himself shot down. We see the leader clearly. It’s Damián Rosales. His nickname is Lobo. He’s played by Arap Bethke. A woman is heard crying “Help!”. Lobo finds her tied up in a storeroom. He identifies himself as a federal agent. Are you all right. She says that she is. He frees her and says it’s over. They call me Lobo, and you...? Miranda. You’re okay now, Miranda. Significant long looks between them. [She’s played by one of my favorites, Angélica Celaya.]

We see Miranda with a photo of Lobo. On the back he’s written Todo va a estar bien! Ten years have gone by. She smiles fondly at the picture and then tucks it into a box under a hankie. A well-dressed man comes up behind her. We see him from the neck down, and he puts his hands on her shoulders. He says that the jewelry makes her even more beautiful. It’s not Lobo. It’s Gustavo de la Colina (Rafael Novoa). They’re married. She asks if he spoke with “him”. He says he will do that right now. “He” has to understand once and for all that we’re out of the business. Miranda says he must know he doesn’t like anyone telling him no. I fear for our lives. Gustavo keeps stroking her shoulders the whole time.

Gustavo says that he knows I’m not his puppet. And, if he’s intelligent, he doesn’t need to interfere with us. Miranda says she’s afraid of retribution against their daughter. I’d die if anything happened to her. No, don’t think that way. Plus, we’re having a celebration. When he leaves, she puts the box with Lobo’s photo under a hankie into the safe.

Speaking of the wolf, we see him crossing a busy street with a throng of other chilangos. His bear is now streaked with grey. Then we see he’s gone into some building like a warehouse. I’m not sure what he’s doing to his shoulder, but it seems to be painful (trying to get rid of a tattoo?) Then he lifts weights. Clearly a very angry dude. He looks at a photo on his phone (Miranda? I couldn’t tell.)

Miranda and Gustavo come to say goodnight to their daughter, Renata. The nanny, Berta, complains that the kid isn’t doing her homework. Instead she’s reading a book of fantasy stories. Renata insists that her assignments are stupid, and the book is fantastic. Miranda lays a dicho on her: Primero el deber, después el placer. Renata agrees to do her homework, but she wants a story from her pops. Then she changes her mind and asks her mother. OK. Miranda holds up a doll. “Once upon a time there was a princess in her castle who was watching her prince while she danced with him. He looks very much in love.”

Part 2 of 7

Renata interrupts that she doesn’t like a stupid princess who looks at the prince like a beaten dog. She wants her princess to have a job on horseback. Her father suggests she write her own story for Mamá to read to her. Renata agrees. Miranda gives her the lecture. No screens, no cell phone, no video games, no tablets. You need to take care of your eyes. Did you put in your eyedrops? [So it appears there’s some issue with Renata’s health.] Renata replies that they didn’t even burn. Miranda makes her pinky swear that she’ll obey Berta while they’re gone. This is a very fond farewell by very loving parents.

Lobo is cleaning his gun and gets a call from his assistant, Fernando Cuevas (Christian Ramos). Fer says he’s looking for el hampón ese (that miserable crook). He knows the guy is in the city and is waiting for someone to “sing”. Fer says Lobo gives him the impression that he’s bored. Let’s have some beers with Santi and listen to some of those awful boleros you like. The reply is maybe. Are you seeing anyone. No. I’m better off alone. I retired. [Think he means from women.]

Next we are in a meeting room full of police officers. The man at the podium says that Antonia Lazo (played by Fátima Molina, new to me) has just gotten a promotion to be an agent of the criminal prosecutor’s office. We’ll see the big shot at the podium later.

Two guys are whispering in the seated crowd. Dante Melquiades (Roberto Romano) says to the other guy: “That one is going to be mine. Not because I say so but because she won’t have anywhere to run. She’s on my turf. Those who enter don’t leave.” [What a prince of a guy!]

Dante makes his first move. He congratulates Antonia and tells her that this merits a toast. Why not tell your comrades that we’re going to celebrate with a couple of little tequilas. She calls him boss. He insists on Dante. She tells him that those who work for him admire him very much. He goes on to say that they’re all family here. She says that she has an engagement. He grins and asks if there’s a boyfriend and is told it’s a family thing. He says family comes first too her face and looks not very happy behind her back.

Gustavo is talking on his cell. He says he doesn’t have anything to think over. He’s made his decision. He already said so. This isn’t a whim. If you think threats will work, then you don’t know me well. I simply stopped being interested in the business, especially since you began involving El Azufrero (sulphur miner) in this. Thank you, but that’s it. Goodbye.

Gustavo tells Miranda he knew they wouldn’t like it, but it’s done. Miranda says that “he” said the only way out was prison or death. This won’t happen, says Gustavo. My ex-partner has to understand that this is for the best for everyone. And we can count on the people who protect us. [Like all rich telenovela people, they have security.] I know how to protect my family.

El Azufrero (Eduardo Yáñez) is standing outside a mansion. He’s on the phone with a guy he addresses as Licenciado. No, we won’t permit that Gustavo de la Colina to make us look like idiots. He shouldn’t have messed with me. He’ll see who El Azufrero is.

Part 3 of 7

Gustavo and Miranda get into a car. [Since I’ve been watching dizis, I’m surprised Gustavo is driving.] A guard at the gate wearing a suit watches them drive off and speaks into his phone. “Proceed. Dead. Not badly hurt. This kid is going to be an orphan. [We later learn this guy is called Cocula.]

Antonia has come to the prison to visit her father, Eugenio Lazo (Gabriel Porras, quite grey-haired). He is surprised she’s come. He thought she’d celebrate with her co-workers. She says that of course she’d celebrate her promotion with him. She’s brought food, fish tamales…no chile, no bones, just as he likes them. She says they won’t measure up to Abuela Guillermina, but they’ll do. A guard walks by snarking about how well his girl takes care of him. Eugenio rises to the bait, but Antonia tells him to stop. She can take care of herself. He congratulates her and says they’re one step closer to their objectives.

Antonia asks if he still has his medicine. He has it, but he’s so tired, so agitated. I miss you and your grandmother. She replies that the medicine helps with his pain. And Grandma is well. I’m seeing her today and will send her your very best wishes. You don’t know how much it hurts me seeing you here, and I’m going to find the proof of your innocence. He says “that miserable Cruz put me here. He buried me alive.” This man won’t escape. Trust me. I swear that Cruz and Damián Rosales, el Lobo, will pay for putting you in prison. Eugenio says they can never find out that you’re my daughter.

Lobo gets a call from Fernando with the miscreant’s location. We see him in a hotel passageway. Yep, this guy is a central casting Bad Guy. He’s walking down the corridor with a young girl, in awful looking "sexy" clothes. He sees Lobo and asks him if he likes what he sees. She’s pretty, right? Pay first and wait your turn. Lobo replies that she’s a kid. Let her go. You think you’re a hero, or what? I’m Lobo, and I don’t like guys like you. The pimp keeps trying to get Lobo interested. Then he pushes the girl forward and pulls a knife. Lobo, of course, wins out. He gives the girl money and tells her to run, to go to her family. He chases the pimp to the roof and beats the tar out of him. Then he zip ties the guy to a fence. He makes a call to say the client should be told the guy is on the roof, ready to go.

Antonia’s grandmother, Guillermina Ortiz, and her friend Teresa admire Antonio’s certificate of promotion at lunch. Teresa asks if she’ll carry a pistol. She says she will, but the plan is not to shoot people. Some agents don’t fire a bullet their whole careers. She thanks them for their support. Teresa teases she’ll be too busy to find a boyfriend. Guillermina regrets that Antonia’s father is not with them to celebrate. She replies that he’ll soon be with them. Guillermina says that the world is full of baddies, look what happened to Antonia’s father.

Miranda asks Gustavo in the car why they have to celebrate his birthday at such a remote club. It’s far from their daughter. He tells her not to worry. He’s calling Cocula to check. He tells the guy they’ll be back after midnight. Take care of our daughter? The reply is that he will. Viewerville already knows that the guy is a traitor.

Part 4 of 7

We see some bad guys arrive at Casa de la Colina. They ask Cocula: "What do we do if La Doña gets brava and wants to defend the kid?" Kill her. They put on ski masks and start searching. Renata is skipping through the house with her doll.

Miranda and Gustavo are blocked in on the roadway. Miranda screams that they’re going to kill us. The shooting starts. Some of Gustavo’s guys in the follow car are loyal, but they’re shot down. Then Gustavo is killed. Miranda runs.

Renata is putting some chocolate in a glass of milk when she sees a guy with a ski mask on choke one of the guards. She drops her milk, grabs her doll, and runs.

Miranda runs through the woods, gasping. She takes out her phone. A killer catches up and shoots her twice, point blank. He tells someone she’s dead. He’s told that the police are coming and to leave. Miranda, wheezing, grabs her phone and manages to send an already written text. Then she died.

Berta hears the beep. She looks and says No out loud. “The day I feared has come. Do what we spoke about, how we prepared. Save my daughter! Don’t even trust the police. Only him.” We see Renata moving around the property, trying to hide. Berta packs a few things quickly. She sees an apparent real guard shot down by Cocula, wearing a mask. He calls her name and that of Renata.

Berta opens the safe and takes a piece of paper and a flash drive. She returns the photo of Lobo to the box and the box back in the safe. Cocula keeps calling out that he’ll protect them. Berta evades him.

Renata tells her doll, Tato, they’ll be heroes, even though she’s half dead with fear. A thug finds Berta and asks her nastily where the girl is. Berta turns and stabs him with a knife. “You won’t mess with my girl!”

Antonia’s friend Adela has brought her a fantastic looking cake. Adela’s son Javier is mentioned as Antonia’s godchild. Adela asks her to promise to have a life, travel, fall in love.

Lobo is talking with some guy who appears to be a food vendor. The guy says that the boss is happy with his work. He turned in that rapist and rescued the girl. Lobo is handed an envelope of money but asks about the girl. The guys says she went to her family. And the boss will give him more work. Lobo responds that he’s tired of this kind of work.

Antonia gets a call from Dante about a homicide.

Lobo arrives home to see Berta and Renata sitting on the stairs. She first extends her blood stained hand and then withdraws it. She says who they are and that she saw Lobo in a photograph. Renata says that this guy doesn’t look like the good person Berta mentioned. Berta tells him whose child this is.

Part 5 of 7

Flashback We see Miranda and Damián together. He hugs her and swings her in the air. He’s happy and says he wants to tell her something, but ladies first. Sin anestesia Miranda says: “I’m going to marry Gustavo.” He says that she said she’d break it off with him. You promised. She says she can’t. I love you, but I can’t. Gustavo and I have known each other a long time. We have a lot in common. Our families are friends. Lobo: The money, right? She denies it. There’s businesses; that’s the only thing that interests you. Go ahead. Marry him. I’m not going to beg for anyone’s love. He drops the ring box at her feet.

Back to Lobo’s steps. Renata haltingly tells him that some rateros entered the house. I want to see my parents, and I’m very hungry. Berta tells him that they’re in danger. They want to kill them. He says he’s sorry, but he can’t help them. Berta begs for a chance to explain further. Renata asks if he has milk.

Inside, Berta tells him she’s sure about the danger, and the parents aren’t answering her calls. She has a bad feeling. Señora Miranda told me that, if I received this message, it was because she’d died. We see that Renata has on headphones. Lobo says they can’t be sure. Berta says the good thing is that they haven’t found the girl. Who could have done this? I saw who. It was Cocula. He was my friend, that animal. He betrayed us. Lobo asks why him. Because I was told you were a policeman. He says that he isn’t any more. He asks her to call him Lobo. But he again says he can’t help. [Come on! We’ve seen the previews.]

Berta hands him the flash drive. With Renata asleep in the other room, they watch a video of Gustavo and Miranda addressing their brave girl. If you’re watching this, your papá and I are no longer alive. We don’t want to leave you unprotected. We have a gift for you so you can live well and peacefully away from Mexico. There’s a copy of this message in the safe, with half of a map. You’ll find this gift at the border with your Uncle Raul. It’s right at the border with the United States.

Lobo says there’s another video, but it needs a password. It must have meant something between Lobo and Miranda, because he types it in. It’s Miranda. Damián, this message is for you. If you’re seeing it, it’s because Gustavo has been in business with the wrong people, and we didn’t survive. [Berta left the room when the message began.] My daughter is what I love most In the whole world. I completely trust you to take her to the border. I beg you. Do it for the great love we had. She holds up a piece of paper that says Fuente Molino 33-45. It’s the address. No one else has it. Lobo says it’s the border port near San Isidro. Miranda says that the video can only be seen once. I don’t want the wrong people to see it. I know you’ll do it because I know you, Damián, your great and noble heart.

Berta turns on the TV and sees the news about the murder of Gustavo and Miranda de la Colina. The announcer says they don’t know who did it nor the whereabouts of the minor child. Berta sobs. She says that Renata can’t know it. Not yet.

Part 6 of 7

Dante is explaining the murder of the de la Colinas to Antonia. He says the guy was an important producer of tequila. He also gave lots to foundations for the needy. They view some videos of the three thugs we saw earlier. Antonia sees a street camera video of Berta and Renata rushing along. Then she also sees Damián Rosales. They identify Berta as the nanny. Dante says that Rosales must be involved with the nanny to kidnap the girl. First, they killed the parents. (Huh? Who’s going to pay the ransom, genius?) Dante tells Antonia he’s going to work the case with her. She agrees.

Renata wakes up and asks if her parents called. Berta replies that her parents aren’t coming here. But she says she spoke with them, and we agreed that Señor Rosales or Señor Lobo will take you to them. She asks why her parents are at the border. Berta says they went to meet her uncle. Renata says she only knew her aunt. She doesn’t know an uncle. Lobo remembers Graciela Villanueva, Miranda’s sister. She can’t care for the child. Berta adds that Miranda and Graciela had a bad falling out two years ago and don’t speak to each other.

Renata has the headphones back on. Berta tells Lobo that Renata is amazing, a simply brilliant child. She writes short stories at her age. Lobo thinks she looks like Miranda.

Dante and Antonia bang on the door loudly. Berta says they can’t know Renata is here. Lobo comes to the door, sees Antonia, and says he can’t believe his bad luck. Another flashback This one is of Eugenio Lazo being arrested and Antonia struggling with Lobo trying to stop it.

Dante asks where’s Renata de la Colina. Who? The girl we’ve come to protect. We’re going to search. Lobo tells them they’d have to have a search warrant signed by a judge. When Antonio pipes up something about the law, Lobo says he doesn’t believe in the law. He left because the place was full of rats.

Dante tells Antonia to get the warrant because he’s sure they’re inside. Lobo shuts the door in her face.

Cocula is having the safe drilled open. He takes out a flash drive, ignoring the box with Lobo’s picture inside.

The guy who I think is the one who gave the promotion to Antonia is playing good father to his two sons. They don’t identify him that I saw in this episode, but I think he’s Hernando Cruz (played by Alejandro de la Madrid). The boys spout off some platitudes from Papá. He gets a call. He tells his wife (played by Dominika Paleta) that it’s the President (female). But it’s Dante, saying he’s discovered something. He says they couldn’t find her or the nanny, but he’s sure he knows where the kid is. But an ex-detective won’t let them in without a warrant. When Dante says Lobo’s name, the big shot says he knows the guy. He messed with my business before. Enter by force, rescue the girl, and, if you need to kill him, do it. Dante looks pleased.

Part 7 of 7

The sister who was on the outs with Miranda shows up at the police station. Antonia is there. [How’d she get from Lobo’s place so fast?] Graciela is played by Marjorie de Sousa. She says immediately that she knows who killed her sister and her brother-in-law.

Dante tells Big Shot that the child is the key to finding Gustavo’s money. It’s complicated. We found half of a map in the safe. I’m sure the other is in the eyes of the kid. [??] He sends Big Shot the video of Gustavo and Miranda. I remember Miranda saying there were two copies. It includes Miranda talking about the treasure.

Lobo is getting ready to leave. Renata tells him she’s writing about a superhero. He tells her they don’t exist. Her story is about a masked hero. She goes on to say that her parents are also heroes.

Dante breaks in, points his gun, and says to bring him the girl or he’ll kill him right now.

Well, that was certainly a lot. Does Lobo plan to travel with Berta as well? She knows how to wield a knife, but I wonder about her traveling speed. We don’t lack for villains, do we?

golden #2

Excellent recap, beautiful descriptions, Babachita. Thanks so much. There’s a lot happening in these first few episodes and you captured it all. Surprisingly, there were no major edits. But I found issues with the translations.

In the Turkish we didn’t hear what Ferit whispered to Gulgun. But I am certain he did not say he was in love. I’m sure he said he “wanted” Seyran instead of Suna. The Turkish verb to want is istemek. If they took this from the script, maybe there was confusion with the Spanish querer that has the dual meaning?

They almost never get the correct translation when asking for the hand.

“Esme: They preferred Seyran. [That’s a cruel thing for a mother to say.] It’s not much better but Esme said, “kardeşin istediler”- they wanted your sister.

Here’s a horror: When speaking to Hattuc after the engagement Kazim really said, fortunately, their son liked Seyran, otherwise I would have been the murderer of my own child. That’s why Hattuc later told Suna “nobody would have saved you”.

“It speaks highly of him, the fact that he’s not picking up girls but rather, a wife. [She must not know about his reputation!]” lol. Hattuc was clear with Kazim that she doesn’t care for Ferit. Bad vibe. Hmmm.

Both sisters feel their lives are ruined.

Yes, Antep is famous for pistachios (antep fıstığı) and baklava.

I can do a short recap of #3.

golden

Dondi, whatever would we do without your access to the original Turkish? Thanks you for the info. I thought it was an odd thing for Ferit to whisper to his mom. Wanting her yes, but at that time he hasn’t loved anyone but himself, I’m afraid. So, the other meaning of “querer” is more accurate, in spite of what the translation showed.

The comment from Kazim about needing to kill his daughter harkens back to Dilaver wanting to kill Zeynep in Lejos!!! The importance of preserving honor is always paramount.

I’ll do a shorter one for #4.

lobo 1

Novelera, you made me laugh when you said you were surprised when Gustavo hopped in the drivers seat of his SUV. I was also surprised. Perhaps it is the dizis with bodyguards always driving!

I don’t have much time to comment, but IMHO anything Arap Bethke is in will be good. The story is compelling and the violence fits but so far not over-the-top. For fans of Hugo from Monteverde, he is also here (and in Mi verdad oculta). Lots of opportunities to see Cristian Ramos. Apparently he is also “Hugo” in Lobo!

I like Ed Yañez, but he isn’t going to be our lovable Rodrigo from Destilando amor! What is a sulfur miner, anyway? Not as fancy as a gold or diamond miner, I guess!

Is the sister good or bad? She had a falling out with Miranda, IIRC. DeSousa has played good, but generally is remembered for her evil roles. She had that most memorable anvil of coyotes or was it wolves, speaking of lobos! Is she related to Uncle Raul? There is a San Isidro in Chihuahua state not far from El Paso. There is also San Ysidro , CA, at the border south of San Diego, if they are using a real place. I figure it’s Chihuahua!

Great introduction, Novelera!

Oh my . I planned to watch Lobo because I have been a Big Ed Yanez fan for a long time , but I didn't realize that it had started. I will have to record it tonight .
Novelera, thank you very much for the detailed recap. Susan

Lobo
Novelera, I'll watch this too. I'm also an Arap fan. I just read the recap because as I started watching i got confused right away, especially since there was like a 15 second lag on the CCs. Now I'll have an idea of who is who.

Oops, that was me posting. I'll have to stop using my tablet to post!

Anastasia, thank you for your summaries of the action on the new TN. I burned some midnight oil on the recap. And, by the time I was ready to start pasting in my 7-part recap from Word, I saw you'd begun to post. By that time, I could only hope we hadn't both done a very long one and more parts of yours were going to be interspersed with mine. I had mentioned that I would recap the first episode, but if you aren't on Caray as much as I am, you probably missed it.

Glad to see we have some interest. They certainly loaded up the cast with very well-known actors. Is Uni only using young'uns these days?

Babachita, glad you're watching. I knew someone would get my bit about the richie riches in dizis having drivers. I definitely agree with your point that the violence seemed appropriate and not gratuitous. It set the stage, and I expect there'll be more bonding between Lobo and Renata and less gunfire going forward.

I did not watch golden last night for obvious reasons. It worked out fine for me to skip your recap because of our title words. I do plan to catch up.

Susan, as they say in street language, we're old heads. So, you will have recognized many of our cast. I was especially pleased to see Gabriel Porras, a really fine actor who's played both good guys and bad guys. Remember how awful he was in La Reina del Sur?

Hi, Kat. We missed you. IIRC it was a hip replacement. I have several friends with alien parts. Everyone seems to be spryer than before.

I'm off to the local high school for my Pilates class. The school has a fantastic Adult School schedule of evening classes. That's where I took ALL my Spanish classes for many years.

#2 – Mini-Recap

I’m hooked. Are there any others willing to do recaps of any length?

Dante does a lot of snarling. But like a lot of TN baddies pointing guns, he talks too much and Lobo gets the best of him. Renata has on her headphones during the fight. They leave his apartment and hide out in a storeroom.

Graciela tells Antonia her theory (or her lie) that Lobo killed Miranda and Gustavo because he was jealous. [and waited 10 years?] She says that Lobo worked for Cruz but made mistakes. Hmmm. Antonia tells Graciela that Cruz made some of his guys scapegoats for Cruz’s illicit activities. Antonia smells something off about Graciela

Lobo rents a car, but Antonia finds out.

Lobo tells Berta a brief recap of what happened between he and Miranda.

Antonia meets with Cruz, who says he didn’t know Lobo, but she knows it's a lie. And the Oscar goes to Alejandro de la Madrid for the best fake smile on the show. Later Cruz smiles and seems fine with his subordinate, Dante, going after a subordinate, Antonia, for a conquest.

Lobo takes Berta and Renata to, I think, that warehouse where we saw him lifting weights before. Lobo learns about Renata’s eye problems. Lobo is like the rest of his species. He has lots of dens.

Cruz comes to see El Azufrero, and we learn his real name. Plácido García Cabrera. When they talk about his being a sulfur miner, is this an allusion to the Devil? They definitely both want Gustavo De la Colina’s money. El Az introduces Cruz to some Russians. Before that, the two have a small who’s the one in charge moment.

Dante shows up when Antonia and the others enter Lobo’s apartment, pretending it’s his first time inside. Antonia notices the broken glass on the floor.

Graciela says on TV that Lobo is the responsible criminal and offers a reward.

Fernando manages to find Antonia’s address for Lobo. His boyfriend seems a bit jealous.

Dante brings Antonia to her apartment and pours it on thick how great she is. Adela and Javier meet Dante. He goes out for wine after they leave.

Lobo comes into Antonia’s apartment and pleads his case. But she sends a recording of what he’s saying to Dante. He does tell her about Dante having already been at his place before.

I am noticing that I’ve been spoiled by watching dizis in Spanish. The dubbed speech is slower than what I hear in TN’s. Sometimes I have to back up and listen twice to be sure I’ve got it.

lobo 2

This mini recap was very helpful. I could do one like this once a week. Preference for Mondays.

Babachita

"LOBO"
Babachita: Expect the Body Count to aggressively increase.

Scumbag Dante is obviously a dirty cop & Antonia is completely gullible.

As far Buji Gracelia: I do NOT trust her at all.

Lobo/OT

You are correct novelera, it was a right hip replacement. I'm doing great post surgery. I started watching lejos but I didn't care for the violence and I had other shows to watch so I skipped that one.

I'm guessing lobo may have similar violence to Fugitivas, or so I hope. I can't decide if Antonia's father is guilty or was set up by the bad cops. I haven't watched 2 yet as I was catching up on other shows on uni (that no one is recapping yet, but maybe if I start commenting others will jump in). Next week I will be able to binge more as my husband is heading to Colorado for his annual ski trip with our sons.

lobo

Your gran estreno recap was great as usual, novelera. You are the master. I'm a little behind on it but it's good. I'll watch. I don't know how I can contribute.

golden

I had a detailed recap of #3 but I lost half of it. I can post some highlights later today. We might have to rethink covering this dizi with Lobo on the schedule and then Lejos will be back in the summer.

golden

Dondi, how awful to lose your recap! I agree it is a little crazy with Lobo etc. lots of good stories right now. I’m fine with what you decide. I know some were interested and appreciated all your input. But with TM scheduling it so late and our trying to start over it’s a bit crazy. I’m still following it in real time, btw. We could wait until a lull and start again but I fear it might disappear from the streaming platforms eventually.

Let’s see if anyone else has an opinion.

Babachita

golden OT

I keep thinking about this. You've done so much work on this and I hate seeing it go away.

I have lurked on caray for several years. IIRC, didn’t big productions get their own pages? It seems to me that some of the problem is too many entries all clumped together. It’s a shame that Lobo couldn’t have its own page, while the “lesser” stories would be on the main page.

But, it is a lot right now and if Lejos comes in July it will be overwhelming.

I guess we could reach out to you with a question about Turkey in an OT entry once in awhile.

Anyway, I agree it’s overwhelming, especially if part of an entry disappears. Your entries are very valuable, btw. We’d never have understood Lejos without your help!

Babachita

golden

I’m still thinking. Another problem is less recappers available. It’s too much for just you and I to do that way.

But…you and I could write very short comment-summaries. Maybe we could take turns every other day.

I guess the main problem is that we are doing this off the regular schedule. I wish TM would run it again prime time later. I wonder if there’s any chance.

I’m exhausted just writing about all of this!

Babachita

golden

Thanks, Babachita. I appreciate your comments.

I'll post #3 and I guess we can drop it after that. Too bad it didn't work out. This dizi deserved better. The first Turkish season was stellar. IMHO, Afra and Mert created iconic characters. Their chemistry was off the charts. It's had great ratings all over the world. And Telemundo decided to dump it in the middle of the night with no promotion.

Maybe when we finish KPA, we can take this up on the daytime page with a similar schedule. I've saved my posts. Hopefully the episodes will still be around.

I'd be happy to answer any questions but number the comment so people can avoid spoilers if they are still watching. I'll catch a preview once in a while, but I dislike real spoilers. They lessen my enthusiasm to watch.

#3 part 1

Suna has a mini meltdown in the kitchen remembering what happened on her engagement night.

Kazim talks damage control. He’ll say that he planned to give Seyran all along. Hattuc thinks no one will believe this. She says Suna shouldn’t leave the house until everything blows over. Kazim agrees. He gets a call from Orhan, who wants to start the wedding arrangements asap. They’ll pick Seyran up soon. Suna overhears all this.

Esme goes to free Seyran from the storeroom. Are you okay? Seyran says she’s okay, but you can see she has some pain from spending the night sleeping on stones. She asks if Suna is okay. Esme tells her that Suna is fine. Hattuc appears and adds, why wouldn’t she be fine? Her time will come. Come with me after you shower. Seyran says she won’t go anywhere until she talks to Suna. You’ll do as I say, Hattuc orders, come!

Seyran asks Esme, why did he let me out? You have to prepare for the wedding, Esme replies, they are coming to pick you up. Seyran is distraught. Mom, we have to do something, she cries, I’ll do anything. Please help me. Suna is the one who wants to get married! Don’t ruin my future over a misstep! Didn’t you see? Suna is devastated! Seyran hugs her mom.
Esme tells her there’s nothing she can do. It’s been decided. There’s no going back.

Kazim walks the streets, greeting others along the way. The barber calls out as Kazim walks by—God bless! congratulations! Yusuf is sitting in the barber’s chair, but he didn’t see Kazim because his head was down at the sink.

The barber comments, did you see how proud he looks? Yusuf asks who. Kazim aga, the barber replies, he’s joining the Korhan family. Yusuf smiles, well he has a right to be proud. The barber adds, I heard there was an incident, but they fixed everything. How do you know, Yusuf asks. The barber says his niece was working there and said something weird happened. The older daughter was supposed to get engaged, but the younger one is getting married. Yusuf is stunned.

Orhan comes to Ifakat’s room. She gives him a cool reception. He picks up on her frosty vibe. Are you upset, he asks, did my father say something? Is he angry? No, she replies, but I wouldn’t tell you if he did. If you were so curious, you should have come last night. There’s something about Antep that changes you. You wouldn’t leave your wife’s side. He takes her hand, she pushes it away.

I’ll call your father, Ifakat says resentfully, I’ll take care of your son to spare you any scolding. But who am I? No one. Orhan asks forgiveness. We were tired, she was nervous. She couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t get out. But I’m here with you now… He goes in for a kiss and she backs off. We don’t have much time, he says and tries again. I can’t, she replies, the driver is waiting downstairs. Go back to your wife. It’s good for her to wake up next to her husband.

Abidin brings lemon soda and coffee to Ferit. Ferit! Wake up! Come on! You need to be awake for your new wife. Ferit slowly wakes. He asks, where are the girls? Abidin laughs, girls? Remember? You spent the night watching TV. Ferit smiles, I was preparing for marriage. Once you get married, all you do is watch TV, right?

Abidin hurries him up. We have to pick up Seyran Hanım. Ah, asks, is she a hanım now? Abi says yes, she’s the new Korhan bride. He adds, I have good news. Ifakat Hanim is leaving today. Ferit falls back into bed and laughs, that’s why I woke up so happy.

#3 part 2

Hattuc helps Seyran get ready and wants to talk before the girl leaves. You had tutors. Your upbringing has prepared you for this moment, for the future. Whose future, Seyran asks. Yours of course, Hattuc answers, did you really think your father would marry you off to just anyone? He wants his daughters to marry into an important family. He wants his daughters to be taken care of.

Seyran says, my father has never looked me in the eye. He always wanted a son. That’s in the past, Hattuc replies, your father wants his daughters to be happy. You think my sister is happy, Seyran answers back, she’s heartbroken. He locked me up when I said I didn’t want to marry!

What is life anyway… Hattuc asks, I would have liked to have a father like Kazim and built a family for me. That way I would have had a home. Seyran notes that her aunt didn’t want to marry either. Hattuc nods. Seyran feels her aunt should support her because of that.

It’s true, Hattuc replies, I didn’t want it and didn’t do it. Do you think it was a smart choice? I was like you when I was young. I’d walk through the market and everyone would turn around. I was Hatice Sanli… my name was known from Urfa to Adana. Look how I ended, dried up in this mansion. Learn from my mistakes. Elders are always right. Get your ID ready and go. And don’t cry in front of your sister.

This is where I lost my recap so it won’t be so detailed.

Seyro sees missed messages from Yusuf. She calls him. He’s waiting outside the konak. He’s upset has to speak with her. She’s frightened someone might see him. She agrees to meet later. Yusuf sees Ferit arrive at the konak with a big bouquet.

Ferit comes to get Seyran. She manages to be civil. Hattuc holds out her hand to be kissed, Ferit shakes it instead. Look at the frown on her face. Ferit makes another faux pas. He asks about Suna. Hattuc is ready to leave with Seyran but clueless Ferit thinks she’s running her own errand. Hattuc stays behind.

Seyran sits silently in the car, looking straight ahead. Ferit asks her, are you nervous, pistachio? Are you kidding, she answers back. I’m not, he replies, how many times does a person get married? What ever we are doing, lets make it quick, she says. Are you angry, he asks, is it because I asked about Suna? You know, she needs to get over this. No answer from Seyro.

Ferit continues, ah, you’re upset because I gave your mom flowers and not you. Had I known, I would have gotten them for you, too. Seyro fires back, you were going to get engaged to my sister! Why didn’t you? I’d say it’s fate, her replies, you’re lucky. You should see Suna jumping up and down, Seyro says.

Ferit asks for Abidin’s opinion. He answers, well they say great loves start with a fight. Ferit laughs. Seyran doesn’t think it’s funny. Abidin gives the agenda—photos, medical check, city hall paperwork.

Orhan and Gulgun drive through town. She notes that Antep has changed a lot. Only our shop hasn’t changed, Orhan says. She remembers the last time they were there. She was pregnant with Ferit. And now he’s getting married. Orhan says don’t start crying. Marriage calls for quiet crying, she replies, living in the yali taught me that. She tries to hold back tears.

#3 part 3

Photos taken. They are at the clinic. Ferit tells Seyro, something terrible happened. They are going to draw blood. I don’t care, she answers, either way, I’m dying. How brave, he says, let’s go, and he reaches for her hand. Don’t touch me, she snaps and pulls away. I have to take your hand, he says, I forgot to tell you. I’m afraid of needles. I think I stems from my childhood. Your childhood? Ignore it, she says, you’re an adult now. Ferit doesn’t let up, I’m scared I tell you. What happened to “for better or worse”? Abidin steps in here to hurry them up.

Ferit gets a call. He says it’s from Orhan but it’s Pelo. He steps away to take it. He tells her he’s doing the wedding prep. She asks if he’s sure about moving so fast. I’m doing this to make my family happy, he says. Pelo asks, how about making me happy? Ferit reminds her he’s getting married so he can continue seeing her. Blah, blah, blah. End call.

Pelo’s cleaning lady informs her she’s going back to her hometown. There’s a money issue. Pelo says she can’t ask her dad right now for a big sum. Maybe next week. And remember, after this, we don’t know each other. Yep, Pelo was the mastermind behind Ferit’s setup.

Blood work is done and Seyro wants to be dropped at the market. Ferit says no. It gets tense. Ferit is about to lose his temper but Abidin steps in again and cautions him not to keep provoking Seyran.

Seyran feels faint and leans against the gate. Ferit and Abidin rush to her. Ferit helps her to the car, Abidin goes to get water. Ferit opens the glove box to see if there’s anything in there to eat. Seyro sees the syringes and asks, what’s that? It’s insulin… it’s mine, he explains, I need it. Fainting spells and dizziness are familiar to me. She’s surprised. He reaches for her hand, are you okay? She moves her hand away, but slowly this time.

Abi comes with the water and Seyro takes a big drink. Ferit starts in, she’s fine, mashallah, let it not happen again. I manage to have this affect on girls. Oh Allah, you’ve sent me another. I’m used to this. Seyro calls him disgusting.

Sultan and Dicle start rearranging Ferit’s room. Sultan daydreams over a pair of Ferit’s underwear with a carrot print. Lol. Dicle grabs the undies and says, he probably won’t wear these after he’s married. Sultan grabs them back and tells her it’s none of her business.

Sultan complains about having a fourth woman in the house to take care of. Dicle hopes they will hire more staff. Sultan says they want someone who will keep their mouths shut and keep all their secrets.

Seyro asks to be dropped of somewhere other than the market. She runs to meet Yusuf. Long story short, she pleads with him to help her. She proposes running away. He chickens out big time, makes all sorts of excuses. This after he previously proposed running away. Seyran is disillusioned with her love.

Seyran returns home, distraught. She calls Ferit a narcissist. She has a talk with Suna, who says, maybe Allah is testing us. We just have to accept this.
Ferit is out to dinner with his parents. He spots Pelo at the restaurant.

And we are out.

Golden

Oh no, I'm interested in this one but I quit because I was waiting for the patio. I'm ready to binge it and get caught up to real time (I'm at 10 I think currently). Babachita when I'm caught up to real time I'll definitely contribute. My husband is going on his annual ski trip next week with our boys next week so I'll have more free time and not feel neglectful of him.

golden

I would continue if there is enough interest and we can stick somewhat to a schedule. Is there interest in continuing? Arkadaşlarim, please speak up! I don't mean to put pressure on anyone. I know time is valuable for all of us.

Even if it's a daily discussion, with numbered comments, I'd love to continue. Daily discussion with worked well with Karsu on Uni.

Tomorrow would be episode #4.

golden

I’d enjoy daily discussion.

Babachita

golden/lobo

I liked the first episode of golden, but it didn't grab me the way Lejos did. And I didn't expect to like Lobo as much as I do so far. But, if we settle for people just throwing in their thoughts, I can probably catch up and contribute on golden. Being retired helps, but I do have other activities scheduled in the evening. By the time the Pilates class was over and I'd eaten dinner, it was time for Lobo.

We don't have enough firm offers to recap Lobo either. I certainly don't plan to put up recaps 5 days a week. I did see your offer, Babachita.

I'll give it a try to catch up, at least to Epi #3 on golden before next week.

Golden

Dondi, yes please daily discussion. I have never liked rewatching shows so that is why I haven't jumped in yet to offer help, but when we get to 11 I'll be ready. Your cut scenes insights are invaluable.
