I've watched through #7 and hope to catch up this week. Here's a few thoughts on what I've seen so far.
Why didn't Halis go to Ferit's wedding? He orchestrated it.
Why is the guy seen hanging out IIRC in the Korhan's kitchen named Carlos when he's supposed to be an immigrant from France?
Ferit teases Seyran about being submissive around adults and salty with him, but I think that's good manners. I hope she doesn't 100% abide by Ifakat's long list of submissive behaviors. Speaking of submissive, is everyone rising when the patriarch enters and leaves the dining room normal?
My first comment on this dizi was about another bully patriarch. But I'm enjoying Halis. I thought it was genuine liking and admiration when he walked down that alley to meet Necip and people greeted him. He wanted a bride from Antep, and I think he may be a big supporter going forward.
I was surprised Ferit deleted the woman's number at the gym.
They definitely tried to fake us out when Ferit dropped his towel and then showed his undies in place. Seyran gets shocked each time he tries to shock her, but I guess they already emphasized how ghastly Kazim raised the girls to be "pure".
I was surprised they haven't turned Suna into being resentful toward her sister. Telenovelas would definitely have gone there.
Pelin is supposed to be madly in love with Ferit, but she didn't protect him from almost dying in a diabetic coma. Her goal was showing Seyran she's not going away, but it was pretty disgusting of the two of them to do that on the wedding night.
Maybe my comments are repetitive of things already said earlier, but I avoided reading either recaps or comments to avoid spoilers for me.
I’m planning a short summary of tonight’s lobo episode. I’ll post asap as I have golden 11 to post as well.
Novelera, I’ll respond to your perceptive golden comments later as well!

Babachita: Looking forward to seeing your recap of this evening's episode. Something tells me that the large group of Antagonists will keep winning as well as increasing the Body Count.
Lobo, Morir Matando – Wolf, Die Killing
Episode 9 #1
Without proof there is no trust – Sin pruebas no hay fe
[This was complicated to do because the subtitles were either not there or were often delayed. I’m giving you my best shot at a summary. I find this telenovela hard to summarize.]
Previously Lobo was arrested. Antonia and Dante were interrogating him. They left him with two guards and Lobo overpowered them. He runs down the hall the police station. The loud alarm goes off. Antonia catches up, but he holds her at gunpoint.
Lobo: I can’t stop now. Let’s negotiate says Antonia.
Lobo: You of all people should understand. Your father was treated unfairly, but if you let me, I can help you. I’m on your side, Antonia. I can prove it.
Loudspeaker voice of Dante: Do you have him, Antonia? Have you seen him? Where are you?
Lobo tells her to put her gun on the ground. She does so slowly. He kicks it away.
I won’t let you keep…
Lobo interrupts saying: I have to keep my word (referring to Miranda and Renata).
He leaves her there and runs out the door. She picks up her gun. A military type goes by in background.
Cruz is standing in the auditorium. Lots of armed cops run by, and the alarm is still annoyingly loud.
Antonia shows up.
Cruz: What’s going on?
Antonia: Rosales escaped.
We see Lobo creep up the stairs in the parking garage.
Cruz: He escaped? I’m surrounded by idiots. Do I have to teach you how to deal with fools like him?
She tells Cruz they’ll find him.
Cruz is having a fit and rips Lobo’s picture off their crime bulletin board of suspects.
Cruz: He was under our custody. Explain.
Cruz tells Antonia he was her responsibility.
Dante interrupts and gallantly [perhaps] takes responsibility, trying to make points. He says it was his fault. He gave the order.
Cruz: He couldn’t have gotten far. If he gets away, you’re all imbeciles.
Antonia walks away with no comment.
Cruz leaves to brief the President.
In the parking garage, Lobo finds a cop with coffee and a donut getting into his police car, not paying attention. Lobo sneaks up behind and puts his gun to his head. The cop looks at him. Lobo introduces himself. The cop says you’re a legend around here. Are you a fugitive now? He agrees to help and acts normal in his car. Lobo tells him not to be a hero or you’re dead and gives him his coffee. Lobo climbs in the back. We see lots of armed police going through the parking garage.
At the de la Colina home, now occupied by El Azufrero and Chela, Azufrero is reading folders from Graciela’s correspondence with a lawyer. He is shocked and comments several times that Gustavo was stupid. He notes that Chela has inherited lots of debts. El Az is able to read the financials very quickly.
There is a police press conference or maybe she is just speaking to other cops. Antonia says they made a mistake not monitoring Lobo. She says they know Renata is OK, despite being held hostage. She says Lobo threatens our society.

Episode 9 #2
FerCho and Santi are with Renata. She is listening to headphones. Lobo calls and tells them he has a cop car and is heading south. “I borrowed a patrol car.” Lobo is waiting for Chela with the police lights blazing. She goes into the house, starts to use the gym, and feels safe. Then Lobo walks in!
El Az is still looking at financials and other papers, and calls it all a mess. The papers mention lots of caches on the border, to find half of a map, and the daughter’s eyes. El Az: What is this nonsense?
El Az asks Cruz who sent the cops to his ranch. Cruz tells him he can’t give him that information. El Az asks why they can’t keep Lobo in custody. The Russians may have called Cruz. Cruz insults El Az and El Az asks if he is now giving him etiquette lessons. Someone says it’s not their fault, that Jerarca was a coward.
Lobo and Chela meet. She tells him there is no Tio Raul. Lobo asks why Miranda never talked to her. He asks her to remove the reward for Renata’s return because it puts her at risk.
Renata continues to draw the tattoo of the bad guy.
Antonia and Adela engage in girl talk about who gets Lobo and Dante.
Lobo tells his friends that Chela doesn’t act like a grieving aunt. Fercho wonders if she is part of this. Renata mentioned El Azufrero when she was talking to Santi.
El Az sees the video of the de las Colinas. He speculates that Jerarca (Gustavo, I believe) was taking over the weapons business, but he wonders where Cruzito fits in all this.
Fercho is getting into the encrypted file and finds links from de la Colina to Cruz to Dante or El Azufrero. They have identified the tattooed guy as Rodolfo Paz, with only misdemeanors on record. They think he’s not a major player. [I think we know differently. Isn’t he Cripta?]
Antonia is resting and Lobo shows up, but wait, it’s just a steamy dream! She wakes up very impactada.
Renata shares her story about Santi, not a superhero. She tells Fercho he needs to get Santi a ring. She finishes the story with the Colorin, Colorado ending that all kids learn. Lobo arrives, calls her Squirt, but still seems very uncomfortable with her. Fercho is worried how Santi will deal with saying goodbye to Renata.
Fercho gets a message that someone who works with El Az wants to talk.
Chela is making a recording. Two things about her: She loves her niece over all, and she never lies. Hmmm. She gets messages arguing all this; some might be using the de la Colinas’s names. She also withdraws the reward because it might hurt her niece. She trusts the authorities to solve this for her dear sister and brother-in-law.
Antonia is talking to her grandmother’s doctor. He tells her that dementia symptoms can come and go. Trauma can make it worse. With her son in jail, she is plenty traumatized.

Episode 9 #3
Chela, El Azufrero, and Remedios are meeting. He is upset that the reward was withdrawn. He asks who gave her permission to do this without his authorization. Chela sticks up for her decision. Then Remedios and Chela get in a loud argument. Chela tells them she withdrew the reward because Lobo threated her. She also tells El Az to tell his mother to knock it off or this partnership is over. He tells her she doesn’t want to know his bad side. She tells him she wants bodyguards. Finally, Remedios yells and stomps out. Chela and El Az draw closer and kiss, but then he gets a call. He tells her this will be continued.
He goes to the kitchen where Cocula and Cripta, the tattooed guy, are waiting. El Az: I hope it’s good news.
Flashback: We see the de la Colina’s safe being cracked open in the auto workshop. They find a thumb drive in the safe.
Cocula: Technology is no match for experience. We might not even need the kid.
His cartographer friend looked at the topography of the map and found the only place it could be.
El Az: Cocula, you’re more efficient than Dante!
Neither Dante nor Cruz know about this. El Az pays them with money, and they start to count it. He tells them not to count it now, to keep going with their story. The map goes up the west coast of Mexico and cuts in to Sonora through Hermosillo (south of Arizona), heading north.
El Az: This is Lobo’s route. We might get there before Cruz. All three are beaming!
Antonia goes into Cruz’s office and opens his computer. She is looking for something to clear her father, “Something to link you to Lobo.” The blonde assistant catches her. Antonia says she brought files for Cruz.
In the general police area, Dante keeps pressuring Antonia to go to dinner. She finally agrees, but she will drive herself.
Lobo stops a man on the street and tells him he understands he wants to talk to them about El Az.
Remedios teases Chela about the kiss. Chela says she has crossed the line. Remedios says she’ll drink to that and gets out the liquor to make a toast. She tells Chela that the mother of El Az’s boys is 3 feet under: She was negotiating with the gringos to capture El Azufrero. Remedios says she was stupid, not thinking of her sons.
Cruz and his wife are at their Senior Home charity, making speeches and giving gifts. When Grandma Guillermina gets close to them, she says he isn’t fighting for justice, he’s a corrupt official and gives him a powerful slap.
Antonia tries to keep the dinner topics to work, but Dante eventually declares himself. She tells him it is inappropriate, subordinate to boss. She tries to go back to work talk. He tells her he doesn’t care about the rules. He asks if there is someone else. Lobo, perhaps?
End of Episode 9
Babachita
Excellent recap, Babachita! ITA. This episode was hard to follow. And, as I mentioned before, I've gotten used to the dubbed Spanish in the dizis, much slower. Arap especially speaks very fast. My subtitles in Spanish are OK, but much of it goes so fast that I have to back up the recording a few times.
These jerks made Antonia take the blame at the presser.
I'm grateful you mentioned that those guys in black who invaded El Az's mansion were police. When it happened, I wasn't sure if police or a rival gunrunning group.
Hmm. I did not know Cripta is the tattooed guy. When the invasion of Gustavo and Miranda's house happened, the only one who stuck in my mind was Cocula.
Is colorín colorado like "they all lived happily ever after"? I have heard that phrase in other TNs.
It was sweet that Renata is now fine with being renacuajo (tadpole). She was highly insulted before.
Dante is a total idiot. Antonia is trying to let him down easy and extricate herself from his declaration by pleading its being against regulations. I worry about repercussions if or when she has to tell him what's also going on is the ick factor he brings out in her.
I'll be putting up another comment on the other show. I'm doing my night owl thing tonight hoping to see the lunar eclipse from my patio.
Howdy from the Alamo City CarayCaray Family. Here's my super-short recap of last night's episode.
*Babachita: Thank you very much for your amazing recap of last night's episode.
*Lobo is spot on about Chela NOT being the so-called grieving aunt because I strongly believe she's deeply involved in this sinister conspiracy.
*Creepy Dante cannot help himself & I wonder if his obsession over Antonia will escalate into more sinister methods.
*Sounds like everyone wants Renata DEAD.
*Busted out laughing when Cruz got slapped by the Old Lady.
*More scheming & plotting by the large group of Antagonists.
Trying Turkish diacritical marks. Yali çapkini (cannot get that dotless i; I give up!}. I use the Spanish ALT codes on my Windows 11 keyboard all the time. Anyway, I've mentioned my Turkish American cycling instructor, Ahmet, before. I had the name of our dizi on my phone and asked him to pronounce it for me (after class, of course). It was fun. I found out it's not Yalee. It's Yaluh.
So I finished #8 tonight. Thanks for the fine recap, dondi.
It's going to be good for Suna to leave Antep. I had a scare when she was walking in the street. I'd forgotten what Yusuf looked like, and I was afraid of some boys trying it on with a disgraced girl.
Fuat is no fool. He said Kazim might be coming to check out the Korhan's house rather than his own.
I expect Halis to see through Kazim as if he had no skin when they finally meet.
Why does Hattuc allow Kazim to treat his wife and daughters that way? She seems to have some status. Does the house perhaps belong to her?
I had an almost thought that there was a teensy bit of Amor Real in this plot. The girl has to leave the boy she did care something about for an arranged marriage. Except Yusuf is no Adolfo, so well played by Mauricio Islas.
I'm surprised at how well Ferit is holding up under Master Necip.
Novelera, this is sort of like “and they lived happily ever after,” that schoolkids say at the end of a story.
Colorin Colorado
Este cuento se ha acabado
I’m not sure why I think Cripta is tattooed guy. I could be wrong.
I’m going to publish golden 11 now.
I’ll comment more later. Have to go

Episode 11
“An Unexpected Visit” – Una visita inesperada
(Brief recap from end of last episode)
(At the new Sanli home in Instanbul)
Ferit catches up to Suna alone in the kitchen and tells her she deserves an apology. He doesn’t want any issues between them. She nervously tells him he has nothing to apologize for. She admits she was clumsy that day.
Ferit: The truth is, when I saw Seyran again, it was a weird feeling.
Suna: What do you mean again?
Ferit: We’d met before, at the backlavaci and even had a minor argument. She didn’t tell you?
Suna fibs that Seyran had told her. She said she thought he was talking about something else. Suna is obviously shaken at this information. She tells him it’s OK, and he doesn’t need to apologize. He tells her he is glad. If he were watching her face, he would know she’s not OK.
(At the jeweler workshop)
Halis and Latif are walking down the stone hallway. They enter the workshop and Necip welcomes them. Necip gives the kiss of respect to Halis. He tells Halis it’s good to see him there. Necip gives Latif a piece for Halis to look at. Latif takes it to Halis, who is sitting by a window at a table. He gets a loupe from Necip for him to look at it more closely.
Necip: Ferit chose this from the others. We’ll have to see whether it’s talent or beginner’s luck. It’ll be a different story once he feels better. He sounded sick over the phone.
Halis looks surprised at this and looks at Latif but covers it well so Necip doesn’t notice.
Halis: He’s a bit sick, yes. Latif, bring us two teas, please.
Latif leaves and Halis continues: Since we’re already here, let’s take a look at the rest.
Necip rises to get the rest, while Halis is making a frustrated expression, no doubt thinking about Ferit.
(Back at the Sanli home)
Seyran and Ferit are visiting Suna and Esme. Seyran is hugging her mother and asking if she feels better. Esme tells her she is fine and not to worry. Suna is looking at Seyran with a very annoyed expression. Seyran hugs her and asks what is wrong. Suna tells her nothing. Seyran probes, are you OK? Suna insists she is fine. Seyran says OK and that they will see them later, as she and Ferit go to leave. Although Seyran leaves with Ferit, she can tell something is wrong.
So can Esme after they leave. She asks her what is up.
Suna: Seyran already knew Ferit. She lied to our faces.
Esme: What? Are you crazy? Why and how would they know each other?
Suna, emphatically: They’d met before! I thought I had caused this when I spilled the coffee, but she’s been lying all along.
Esme: Calm down. It’s OK. Shhh. Your aunt can’t find out. Come here and we’ll talk.
Suna: I have to talk with Seyran about this.
(In a hospital recovery room)
Asuman is still very drowsy. She tries to move, but it hurts. Gulgun is there and asks if she needs anything. Asuman says she doesn’t need anything. Gulgun covers her. Asuman asks about Fuat. Gulgun says he is with Ferit and Seyran. Gulgun asks if she wants to be alone and she says no. There is a knock and Seyran comes in. The brothers are together outside of the room. She tells Asuman to get well soon. Gulgun says she will call Orhan and leaves Seyran with Asuman.
The brothers are walking in the hall. Fuat looks very unhappy. He says the doctor said all went well, but they still need more tests. Ferit asks him how he is feeling.
Fuat: What do you think? How’s your work?
Ferit: Same as before. I knew I had to start somewhere, but I don’t think it’s the right fit.
Fuat: Where would you have wanted to start?
Ferit: That’s not what I meant.
Babachita
Episode 11 #2
Fuat: What do you think? That because you got married, you’d get a spot in the company? If you had a baby now, I’m sure Grandfather would give you a spot. He’s lost all hope in me.
Ferit, tearful: Listen, brother, that’s not what I meant. You know I’d never say that.
Fuat: I know, brother. I’m just a little down. I’m not making any sense.
Ferit: I’m so sorry, brother. Come here.
They hug, both very emotional. Fuat: I’ll never be a dad. This can’t be happening. My biggest dream was to be a father.
They hug for a long time. Afterward, they sit together outside the recovery room.
Ferit: This doesn’t mean you’ll never be a dad.
Fuat looks at Ferit for a bit: I’m trying to be a good husband. But staying strong in front of Asuman is harder than I thought.
Ferit: Everything’s going to work out, you’ll see. You and Asuman will get through this.
Fuat: How? I thought my life was heading in a straight line. I had it all planned out. And now?
Ferit: Sometimes your journey isn’t as straightforward as you thought. It has its up and downs. You had no way of knowing. But I know you, brother. You’ll be able to push through. Go with the flow. And don’t worry, I’ll always be here for you.
Fuat: Unbelievable. You’re actually making sense. Marriage has done you good.
Ferit: A joke.
Fuat: No, not a joke.
Ferit asks Fuat if he is ready to head back, and they walk toward Asuman’s room together.
(At the Korhan yali)
Halis is sitting at dinner, with a somber expression. He asks about Asuman. Orhan tells him she’s fine and that he visited earlier. Halis thanks Allah. He asks about Fuat. Orhan tells him he is OK, but a bit disappointed. Latif signals to the staff to leave, sensing this is becoming a private discussion.
Halis: Ferit, how are you feeling? I heard you were sick.
Ferit: It wasn’t serious. It was the wedding stress.
Halis: It wasn’t that. I heard you got sick again. Necip told me.
Ferit looks around for help, Ifakat rolls her eyes, Orhan just looks down.
Ferit takes a deep breath: Listen….
Halis interrupts: You thought I wouldn’t find out? Orhan did you know about this and said nothing?
Ferit: I told him I took the day off. Dad didn’t know.
Halis slams his fist down on the table in anger: You’ve gotten comfortable lying. Liar! I felt so ashamed in front of my old friend. I’ve vowed to be truthful my whole life. I had to betray my morals for you? I can make your life hell, you stupid boy! (Tears are running down Ferit’s face.) Look at me. Look at me! (Ferit looks at him.) I got you a job so you’d become a man. But you’re too comfortable. Why would you need to work? I don’t want to see you now. Get out of here!
Get out! Disappear!
Ferit walks out. Ifakat gestures that Seyran should follow him. She follows Ferit out of the room.
Halis: And what do you two have to say (to Orhan and Ifakat)? You haven’t raised him to be a man. I’m the only one who cares enough! (He pounds the table with every word of the last sentence.). Listen, Orhan, I know he’s your son, but I’m not done with him. Did you hear me?
Orhan: I heard you.
Halis: Ifakat, can’t you see neither of his parents are stepping up? You’ll handle him. Be as strict as you need. Or I’ll have to do it myself once again.
Ifakat: I’ll handle it. I’ll make sure…
Halis pounds the table again, interrupting her: You’ve ruined dinner. Enjoy! He stands and walks out, followed by Latif.
Orhan and Ifakat slowly sit back down.
Orhan: What a disaster!
Ifakat: Ferit can’t keep doing this.
Babachita
Episode 11 #3
Orhan: Ifakat, please calm him down. He’s going to make the kid sick and then Halis would be sorry. He’s too hard on him. His wife was at the table.
Ifakat: I’ll handle it.
They look very stricken by this dressing down, not at all like the midnight lovers that they are.
Later we see Ifakat giving Halis a shoulder rub.
Halis is very troubled but seems to finally relax.
Halis: Thank you so much, Ifakat.
Ifakat: Of course. You are so tense.
Halis: It’s much harder at my age. If only I were younger, I’d break his bones without mercy, only for him to have to wake like a soldier the next day.
Ifakat: He was away from us for a while. He still has a lot to learn.
Halis: If his parents hadn’t sent him so far, he’d already be working at the company.
Ifakat: That’s true.
Halis gives a great sigh and pats her hand, telling her the shoulder massage helped a lot. He is even smiling. He tells her to call Latif to join him.
She tells him to have a good evening and goes to call Latif.
Halis: You too, Ifakat.
Halis rocks back and forth. He asks Latif if he was on the other side of the door.
Latif: I was thinking of you. I hope you’re feeling better.
Halis: I’m fine, don’t worry. I just need you to grab my medicine. I’ll go rest. We’ll see what fate has in store for us tomorrow.
(At the Sanli home)
We hear peppy Turkish music and see Kazim enjoying the moonlit view and thanking Allah for his good fortune: This is exactly what we needed. Auntie, come here! I’m glad we’re here. Ferit is growing closer to us. I would’ve liked to talk to him.
Hattuc: And why do we want that boy close to us?
Kazim: We’ll start getting together more, little by little. Do you see what this means? Only our daughter can give them what they want. Korhan grandchildren.
Hattuc: Don’t say that Kasim! You’re building castles in the air. You must solve Suna’s situation first. She was so happy when Seyran visited. But I didn’t like Seyran’s attitude. She was more worried about her sister than her husband.
Kazim: I’ll think of something. But Suna’s not our priority. She made her bed, and now she has to lie on it.
Hattuc makes a really ugly face and shakes her head at these words, but Kazim can’t see this.
Suna is upstairs and is talking on the phone with…Yusuf!!!
Suna: It had nothing to do with me. Seyran lied to us. Why didn’t she say they knew each other, Yusuf? You have to go find out! You must do it, just like you talked behind her back.
(At the yali)
Dicle enters the kitchen with a tray and finds Abidin there. He jokes that it’s terrible that she caught him. He thought she was done with work. Dicle says she will go rest after this.
Abidin asks if she is still mad at him. She says she isn’t mad. He asks her what’s with the face, then. She shakes her head: Abi, will you tell my parents?
Abi asks what, and she says that Secil on her phone isn’t actually Secil. Abi discovered this when he answered her phone. He tells her, no, not to worry. He says he shouldn’t have taken her phone in the first place. He tells her they are even.
Dicle: Thank you, Abi. I’m sorry I treated you the way I did.
Abidin: It happens to all of us. Was it your boyfriend who called?
Dicle: You could say that.
Abidin: Be careful. You can’t trust any man.
She smiles and tells him to sleep well and leaves.

Episode 11 #4
Up in their attic, Ferit is dressing to go out, and Seyran says maybe he shouldn’t go. He laughs and tells her she is playing the role of the concerned wife very well.
Seyran: Don’t give your grandfather more motives to be angry.
Ferit: You think he could get angrier? You think his anger has a limit? Anyway, nobody’s going to see me. I’m out of here! (He pauses at the door) Do you want me to bring you anything?
Seyran says no, and he says he will see her later.
She looks very lonely there all alone. She walks out on the balcony and sees Sultan outside bringing in a basket of what looks like laundry. Ferit walks out to Abidin waiting at the SUV. Ferit looks up and see Seyran and their eyes meet. A plaintive Turkish song is played. We see Sultan looking very thoughtful, glancing up at Seyran. Then we see Pelin alone scrolling through pictures of her with Ferit. Lots of unhappy people that evening. Seyran paces around upstairs. She opens the nightstand and takes out the bracelet Ferit made and looks at it.
Ferit is with Abidin in their yacht. Ferit looks like he wants to cry. They are drinking. It’s a beautiful evening on the water in Istanbul. [Life is rough!] Seyran walks out on the balcony again. She is fingering the bracelet and slowly starts to smile. Pelin is sort of sleeping on her couch and gets a message. She goes to the door and opens it to find Ferit. She hugs him and later we see them watching a movie on the computer, both smiling happily.
Sometime later, we see Ferit sneaking in through the balcony, but he stubs his toe on the way in, falling down, which awakens Seyran. He seems to have passed out, and Seyran is very worried because he can’t open his eyes. She’s about to go get help when he tells her he is OK.
She told him he scared her. She thought it was his diabetes. He tells her Abidin had checked his sugar. Then she says: But look at you. Come on, get up!
She struggles to get him up and then gets him on the bed. He wants water, so she gets some. He lies down on the bed with his sneakers on, rubbing mud off on the sheets.
Seyran: What if someone walked in right now?
He starts to laugh.
She tells him he ruined everything.
He tells her it’s better that Halis doesn’t know where he is. She pries off one sneaker. He says then Halis can worry. She gets the other sneaker off. He continues: It’s best to make him worry, so he’ll be less harsh.
She covers him with the duvet, and he tells her to stop bothering him: I’m sick of you. I refuse to keep sleeping on the couch. My back hurts. I spilled water on myself.
She starts laughing at this spectacle.
Next morning, Suna is looking at her phone. She and Yusuf seem to be texting. He is smiling at his phone. He is now in…Istanbul, just outside of the yali! Uh oh! Inside, Seyran wakes (on the couch) and looks for Ferit. He yells that he is showering. She wonders if he is running late. He tells her they aren’t open today. He tells her teasingly that she can come in if she needs the bathroom. She laughs and tells him sarcastically that he’s so funny. She is not happy looking at the stains on the sheets. She thinks for a bit and rips off the fitted sheet.
In the kitchen, Sefika tells Sultan that Ms. Sefika wants a lemonade. Sultan says, unkindly: Wow, does Ms. Sefika need anything else?
Sefika: What are you saying?
Sultan continues to make her point, asking why she said Sefika.
Sefika: It is Ms. Ifakat. I’m so tired, I can’t think straight.
Sultan speculates out loud that maybe Sefika secretly envies Ms. Ifakat.
Sefika: Why would I envy her? She’s a widow like me. If you want to know who I actually envy…
Sultan: Who would’ve thought? Who?
Sefika tells her she won’t tell her.
Sultan keeps after her: What if we found you a retired man who’s looking for a wife?
Sefika: Allah Allah, don’t say that! How do you come up with these things?
Sultan: You’re always complaining about being a widow.
Sefika: Get to work. Ms. Ifakat is expecting her lemonade. Don’t make her angry.

Sultan asks where Dicle is.
Sefika: Our beautiful bride Seyran called her to her room.
Sultan: What a demanding woman. (Her jaw hardens and she looks very glum.)
Dicle comes down to the laundry with the sheets. Her mother stops her and asks why Seyran called her. Dicle tells her she wanted to change the sheets. Sultan says she just changed them the day before.
Sultan: What happened last night?
Dicle: Mama, I don’t know.
Sultan: Changing the sheets is not for her to decide. [Are you kidding me?] That must be it.
Dicle: It’s none of our business, Mom.
Sultan says it’s fine, just go, and continues to think.
In Ifakat’s room, Sultan brings in the lemonade, although it looks more like tea in a teapot.
She hems and haws until Ifakat asks her what’s up. She tells her that in the morning Seyran asked for them to change the bed sheets.
Ifakat: So, what?
Sultan: We changed them yesterday. She gave us the sheets herself. And after last night, …
Ifakat: OK, I understand. It’s none of your business.
Sultan: But, Ma’am, that girl seems quiet, but she has Ferit eating out of her hand.
Ifakat: He’s her husband. Please go.
As she leaves, Ifakat tells her it’s not a bad idea to keep an eye on her.
Sultan promises to do so.
Next we see Orhan and Ifakat laughing at the breakfast table.
Orhan: Allah Allah. We’ve got to be careful around Sultan! I admire her drive, though she tends to go overboard.
Ifakat: Thanks to her, I found out Seyran and Ferit are growing closer. [So, perhaps they are all making the wrong assumption about why those sheets need washing, as they might have needed on their wedding night. Otherwise, I don’t see what Sultan’s scoop is about!]
Orhan: Seyran looked scared after Dad yelled at Ferit.
Ifakat: You’re laughing now, but don’t forget she’ll be your grandchildren’s mother.
Orhan: That’s true. Someday. Now’s not the time. Asuman just had her surgery.
In walk Seyran and Ferit.
Orhan tells Ferit to eat something. Your grandfather’s not coming.
Ferit: He really is angry. He can’t even look at me.
Ifakat: Please, let’s not talk about that again. How are you, Seyran?
Seyran: I’m fine, thank you. (As she sits, she drops her phone.) Ferit beats her to it. She thanks him.
Ifakat tells her that they don’t use their phones at the table.
Ferit: Grandfather may not be here, but he is in spirit. [I chuckled at that! Ifakat surely carries out his wishes!]
Seyran: I’m sorry. I’m waiting for the test scores, but I’ll put it away.
Ifakat: What test?
Seyran: For the university. They’ll post scores soon.
Ifakat: I know you’re young, but you’re a Korhan now. There are certain things you should forget about.
Sultan comes in looking like the cat who ate the cream as she says to Seyran: There’s a young man waiting for you outside. He insists on seeing you.
Seyran looks confused, and Ferit looks surprised. Ifakat is staring at her.
She gets up: Excuse me, I’ll be right back.
Ifakat is going to spy, but Orhan tells her to sit down. Because of that, Ferit doesn’t try to follow, but he wants to.
Babachita
Episode 11 #6
Seyran opens the door and a very somber Yusuf is standing there.
She leaves the door open [big mistake] and yells at him: What are you doing here?
Yusuf: I couldn’t sleep last night. I risked everything to come here. You owe me an explanation.
Seyran: What are you talking about? Explanation for what?
Ferit, who has followed her, hears all this, and then walks out to join them: Seyran?
Ferit gives Yusuf a long, patrician gaze up and down, taking his measure.
Seyran: Everything’s OK. I’ve got this.
Ferit: I’ll be waiting here.
She closes the door.
Seyran: What do you want me to explain? How dare you show up here after what you did?
Yusuf: You should be ashamed, you’re with that…
She puts her hand over his mouth and tells him to shut up; they will hear him.
Seyran: What are you doing here?
Yusuf: Why didn’t you tell me you already knew him?
Seyran: What are you talking about?
Yusuf: Suna told me. You knew him before the proposal.
Seyran: Do you not know me? You are an idiot, Yusuf. Didn’t I ask you to run away with me?
Yusuf: Tell me the truth. I dropped everything to be here. I need to know, Seyran.
Seyran: You realized you were wrong.
Yusuf: My head’s about to explode. I won’t leave until we talk.
Seyran: Stop overreacting.
Yusuf: You think I’m overreacting?
Seyran: Yusuf, you are putting me in a tough spot.
Yusuf: It’s the same spot you left me in.
Seyran: Fine, well talk later, OK? But not now. This isn’t the time or place. Please understand. Would you rather talk and know the truth or make a scene and hurt me? Which do you prefer?
Yusuf: Fine. Unblock me, and I’ll wait for your call. If you don’t, I’ll come back tomorrow. I mean it. If I lose, we both lose.
She nods in agreement. Then he leaves.
She holds her head and tries to get a grip.
She goes in and finds Ferit waiting.
Seyran: I’ll tell you later, Ferit. Right now we have to think of what to tell the family.
Ferit: You need to calm down first. We need to act normal. Follow my lead, OK? Let’s go.
They walk back to the dining room, Ferit saying: That’s normal, Seyran, I’m not surprised. More random relatives will show up, even ones you don’t know. It’s what happens when you’re a Korhan.
Ifakat: What happened? Who was it?
Ferit: A relative from Antep. He found out she got married and wanted to congratulate her.
Seyran: I barely know him. I’m sorry. I didn’t know he was coming.
Orhan: You didn’t even let him in?
Ferit: No, he seemed a little off in the head. He didn’t want to come in.
Ifakat: After coming all this way?
Ferit: As I told you, he wasn’t right in the head.
Seyran: I’m sorry.
Orhan: That’s OK, dear, it’s not your fault. Though I doubt he only came to congratulate you. Some relatives come for money.

Episode 11 #7
Seyran: She knows that, Dad.
Ifakat: There are ill-intentioned people out there. You can’t let them in.
Seyran nods. She asks to be dismissed.
Orhan tell her to go ahead.
Ferit is closely watching. He says he will go with her and asks to be excused.
They run up the stairs. Latif catches Ferit: I hope it wasn’t important, sir.
Ferit: What?
Latif: I was just notified of your guest. Who was it?
Ferit: Oh, no one. Just someone who wanted to congratulate us. An interesting relative. Have a good day.
Ferit has a very solemn expression as he heads to his room.
Seyran is on the phone trying to call Suna. Suna won’t answer.
Seyran: Thank you so much. I couldn’t have done that without your help.
Ferit: Who was he?
She thinks long before answering: He is my ex-boyfriend.
Ferit repeats: “He is your ex-boyfriend” several times.
Ferit: Alright. Interesting. You never mentioned him. Why’d he come here looking for you?
Seyran: I don’t know either, Ferit. He said my sister told him you and I knew each other before the proposal.
Ferit: So what? Who does he think he is, coming here at this time of the day?
Seyran: Ferit, when you picked me over Suna, I asked for his help. I was scared. I told him we should run away together. But he chickened out. I broke up with him right there.
Ferit: Hold on, what did you ask him?
Seyran: To run away together.
Ferit: Would you have done it if he’d said yes?
Seyran gives a little nod: He was a coward. That’s not important anymore. I have to talk to my sister now.
Ferit: What for?
Seyran: I told you, I need to know what she told him.
Ferit: She must have told them about us meeting at the shop.
Seyran: She doesn’t know about that.
Ferit: It might’ve come out when I talked to her.
Seyran: What’d you say? When was that?
Ferit: When we visited. I ran into your sister. I tried to apologize to her, but…
Seyran: Clapping: Thank you for your help. This is exactly what I needed!
Ferit: How was I supposed to know you were hiding things? Allah Allah! Don’t try to blame me for this. That guy wouldn’t have shown up if he didn’t think he had a chance. Are you still in touch with him?
Seyran: Of course not, Ferit. I blocked him. I don’t care about him. I need to talk to my sister. Can you help me, or not?
He stares at her for a bit: OK, I’ll go talk to Dad then we’ll leave. Start getting ready.
End of Episode 11
Babachita
Good suggestion, Novelera. I’ll use Spanish cc’s next week.
Steve, Grandma slapping Cruzito was a memorable scene!
I’m enjoying El Az with Chela. Remedios gave her a toast along with a warning about what happened to his wife!
Babachita
I like Halis, too, Novelera. It’s encouraging that Ferit might have some genuine ability in that world of gems.
IIRC, Halis knew Kazim from Antep so Halis might not be surprised at his antics. It’s so funny all this plotting and negotiating, how the guy on the lower rung of the ladder tries for advantage from those at the top. Seems exhausting to me to have to consider every move!
Novelera, I remember you mentioning that Ahmet your instructor told about the very short i sound in Mardin. Might be a similar sound in Yali?
How lucky we are to have Dondi and Ahmet to keep us informed!!!
Babachita
Beautiful recap, Babachita. Great asides. I could visualize all the scenes. And you also provided an excellent recap of Lobo! You were busy!
Song in #11: Sakladığın Bir Şeyler Var/There's Something You're Hiding – Dedublüman
YouTube with translation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFXE3CEf5ms
I was waiting for Halis to start pounding the table, lol. He told Orhan and Ifakat, “you poisoned the meal/food!” Classic.
Orhan’s comment: “He’s going to make the kid sick and then Halis would be sorry. He’s too hard on him.” That gives us a clue as to why Ferit got away with stuff for so long.
I'll try to get #12 up tonight.
general comments
novelera, Halis didn’t go to the wedding because he’s not well enough to travel. Yes, I also wondered why “Carlos” is from France. I think Seyran is a well-mannered person but she is also fearful because of abuse. Ugh, Pelin. She’s a spoiled brat. She says she loves Ferit, but I think she sees him as a possession. And he uses her.
I don’t think anything belongs to Hattuc. Her status is being Kazim’s elder. He sometimes considers her input, but he gets the final word. Yes, it’s a wonder that she lets Kazim treat Esme and the girls so poorly. But she treats Esme and the girls like servants, too. I guess she feels she should be served as the elder. Locking the pantry is a bit much. I think she draws the line at physical violence. She did try to stop Kazim when he beat Suna… to no avail.
Halis is a very grey character for me. I enjoy Çetin Tekindor’s portrayal. Halis is from Antep and of a certain generation. Honor is paramount. He is traditional and demanding. He’s not effusive with praise or affection and is quick to anger, but I believe he loves and protects his family as well as he can. And he spouts all that philosophical stuff, lol. The family is afraid of him. He could kick them out, disinherit. I can’t say more about Halis at this point. I think my personal experiences with family, friends, and neighborhood growing up, color my feelings a bit, too.
Halis said Kazim was a child the last time he saw him. He knew his father well. I think Halis can handle Kazim.
Turkish diacritics. I can’t always get them to work when directly posting into the blog. ALT 0305 gives me the dotless i on my laptop. There is also a capital dotted İ. Turkish has vowel harmony so you know which “i” to use in most cases. I’m very lazy about using the marks, especially when I’m hurrying to get a recap posted. I make sure to use them when spelling a real person’s given name.
#12 part 1
Ferit agrees to take Seyran to see Suna.
Orhan and Ifakat have breakfast alone. She asks him if he ever imagined what it would be like if it was always just them at the table. Orhan says sometimes. Ferit comes to the table. Dad, I’m going out with Seyran. Absolutely not, Ifakat states, did you forget what happened with your grandfather?
The girl’s father is here, she should be allowed to see him, Ferit replies. He came to the house on his first day and kissed grandpa’s hand. You start talking about traditions and customs only when it suits you. You married me off, now don’t interfere in my affairs. Ifakat looks at Orhan to stop this. Orhan tells Ferit to go but don’t take too long. Grandpa isn’t coming down, I’ll talk to him if necessary.
Ifakat’s jaw drops. She looks daggers at Orhan and gets up from the table. Orhan follows her out to the patio. He explains it just came to him quickly. She’s angry—why did you contradict me? He answers, my father won’t be down. Gulgun won’t be back until afternoon. It’s just the two of us. She asks, was that why you disagreed with me? We’re wasting time talking, he says.
Gossip in the kitchen. Ibo enters and asks, did you find out who that boy was? Sultan replies, no, Ferit Bey sent me away. I thought it was suspicious, Ibo says, he asked for Seyran and I could tell by his accent, he was from Antep. He was angry when he showed up but left sad.
Wow, and her father showed up here yesterday, Sultan adds. There’s something about that girl I don’t like. That’s enough, Sefika says. You’ve made it your mission to bother that poor girl. Sultan accuses Sefika of switching sides ever since Seyran talked to her the other day. I’m on my own side, Sefika replies, I have to work all day instead of gossiping with you.
There’s a cute scene where Firat pretends to be a monster with a paper bag on his head and a play sword. Everyone in the kitchen gets involved in the game.
Seyran is still trying to call Suna with no luck. Ferit figures Suna must be very angry. I am too, Seyro says, she’s the reason that Yusuf showed up. That idiot came all the way from Antep! Ferit tells her to calm down, she’ll get the chance to talk to her sister. He asks, why are you so worried? This isn’t easy, she answers, I tried to stop him from making a scene without knowing what Suna told him. Were you able to, Ferit asks.
He wants me to meet with him, Seyro says, I said yes so he would leave. Ferit asks, you’ll call him? No, she replies, I’m going to see him after I talk to Suna. Ferit stops the car. What will you do? I’m meeting with him, Seyro answers. No way, Ferit says, that’s impossible. Seyro asks why. You must be crazy, Ferit says. Seyran fires back, don’t talk to me like that. Ferit reminds her she is married. You’re Seyran Korhan now, you can’t meet your ex-boyfriend.
What if he comes back to the house, Ferit asks, is he threatening you? You can tell me. She looks worried but she tells Ferit he’s overreacting. And you of all people are judging me? He asks, what does that mean? You go out with Pelin all the time, she replies, like it’s natural for you to have a girlfriend. Is Pelin threatening you? Slight eye roll from Ferit. Pelin doesn’t knock on the door early in the morning, he says. Seyro’s turn to eye roll—that’s right, she comes in from the roof.
#12 part 2
Ferit turns the car around and says, my father didn’t give me permission to take you to your ex-boyfriend. What don’t you understand? what if someone saw you? What if he does something stupid? What if the press finds out? You didn’t notice someone took your picture with my mother. What do you think would happen if my parents found out? And don’t say it would never happen. You can’t see him.
Seyran gives in but she still needs to talk to Suna. She must be locked in her room, crying, thinking the worst. I have to fix this. We’ve both suffered from this situation. Please, Ferit. He turns the car back to take her to Suna.
Hattuc is nagging Kazim about returning to Antep. He’s combing his moustache. He suggests putting a pantry in the kitchen, like the one they had in Antep. And she can safeguard the key. She’s not interested. She just wants to return to Antep. The doorman calls upstairs and Esme answers. Kazim says, see even brainless Esme has learned how to answer. You should get used to it, too.
Esme goes to Suna’s room. Your sister is here. Please don’t get upset and don’t yell at her. You don’t want your father to hear. We’ll go back to how we lived before.
Hattuc opens the door for Seyfer. Welcome damat, she says to Ferit, are you an idler? Didn’t you have a job? You were just here yesterday. He kisses her hand. You say nice words again, he tells her, I see you are in a good mood. Kazim calls out to Ferit to come over. He tells Ferit that Hattuc is just kidding with him. She loves you a lot. The dog still has the memory of his owner, Hattuc says. What’s new, Kazim asks Ferit. I’m working now, he replies.
Seyran goes to see Suna. Esme goes with her and asks her in the hall—is it true what Suna said? Seyran is frustrated—you too, mom? Esme says Suna has been crying in her room since yesterday. Seyran asks to speak with Suna alone.
Seyran knocks and enters the bedroom. Suna is facing away from the door and asks, what do you want? What nonsense have you been talking about, Seyran asks. Yusuf came to the house early this morning. Good for him, Suna replies, so I did the right thing. Consider that for tricking us while you have fun at the yali. Couldn’t you have asked me first, Seyro says, you believed that idiot over your sister? He’s your husband, Suna snaps, are you going to deny it? Tell me it’s not true and I’ll apologize immediately.
Seyran can’t answer. Sure, Suna says, Yusuf had a feeling about it. Do you see why I called him first? Now you show up here and act like a victim. Seyro argues, you acted behind my back without even knowing… Suna interrupts—just like you did! We were deceived! I blamed myself for days. I was punished for what I did! Dad almost broke my bones! Why didn’t you tell me! Couldn’t you just say that he saw you at the market and liked you? I was agonizing and you lied to me! You didn’t say a word!
Would it have changed anything, Seyran asks. If you hadn’t tripped, I wouldn’t have come into the living room. Ferit wouldn’t have seen me. But it happened. Yes, I met him at the baklavaci, but I didn’t plan on it. I didn’t know who he was and he didn’t know me. I answered him rudely and left.
Suna mocks, oh it must have been an act of God, right? Oh, my poor sister. So mistreated. Ended up in a rich family and now you’re happily walking around with your husband. And you still want an explanation from me? Shameless.
#12 part 3
That’s enough, Seyran says. You call him my husband. You don’t know anything. What else should I know, Suna asks, what other lies have you told? Seyran holds back tears. That husband you’re talking about… introduced me to his girlfriend on our wedding night. That’s something else you don’t know.
Suna tries to understand. Girlfriend? He was also forced to marry, Seyran replies, he has a girlfriend. They are still seeing each other. Suna can’t believe it. You’re right, Seyro says, I’m so lucky I live in his yali. I was rescued from a cave, only to be put in a golden cage. Ferit and I were never husband and wife. Our marriage is a lie. He continues his life as it was before. I’m just an adornment. That’s all. But my sister is picking a fight with me.
Is that the truth, Suna asks, you swear? Seyran swears. Suna turns her anger to Ferit. That dishonorable dog! She asks Seyro, you haven’t done anything about it? Why would I, Seyro replies, this benefits me, too. This way, he doesn’t touch me. Suna is horrified, how dare they do this to you? Who do they think they are, that Korhan family! Why didn’t you tell me? I’m your sister.
Ah… I’m your sister now, Seyran says. Then why did you call Yusuf and conspire against me? Seyran starts to cry. Suna hugs her. Did Yusuf create a problem? I told you, Seyran says, he came to the house this morning. I convinced him to leave but he threatened me. He told me I needed to meet him so we could talk. Suna offers to talk to Yusuf. And you can meet with him once, to explain everything. Seyran shakes her head, Ferit won’t allow it. I feel trapped. Suna says she will help. You and Yusuf can go somewhere private, and no one would notice. She says she has a plan and tells Seyran she will handle it. Trust me.
Esme enters. She tells Suna to get dressed and come out. Pull yourselves together. Did you resolve things? Yes, Seyran says. Suna calls it a misunderstanding.
Explain something, Kazim asks Ferit, you’re a Korhan. Your family couldn’t find you another position? Grandpa decided it would be best, Ferit replies, there’s nothing I could do about it. Kazim says it’s a shame. Your pride also matters. Ferit squirms. Kazim continues, you’re just like your brother but he’s the boss and you’re the apprentice.
Ferit answers, I really don’t have to work. Hattuc speaks up, that’s not right. Working makes the man. Earns his daily bread. Yes, you are right, Ferit admits, but as far as I know, Kazim Baba doesn’t work either.
Kazim straightens. What did you say? I’m a landowner. I manage my father’s lands! I’m an Ağa! An Ağa! One day you will get your inheritance from your grandfather and father. Then you can compare yourself with me. Estağfirullah, that’s not what I meant, Ferit replies, you’re clearly on another level. Kazim is satisfied with that. He says, look at me, your grandfather pushed you to get married, but he still doesn’t consider you to be a man. Ferit starts squirming again. I think he’s hoping that Seyran returns soon.
Kazim continues, of course, you cannot criticize his decision, but it is you who will continue his line. We haven’t met him yet, but I have no doubt your brother is a good person. It’s a shame he had no luck with his wife.
#12 part 4
Esme and Suna come out. Suna gives Ferit a lukewarm welcome. He asks, where’s Seyran? Forget about her, Kazim says, I’m talking to you. If your brother is above you, what should you do? Give your father a grandchild. That’s the way to become valuable in your family… Bilesin. Ferit has had enough. He sighs and gets up. Where is Seyran? Esme says she’s in the bedroom. Ferit goes to get her. Kazim grumbles to Hattuc, if he had any brains, he’d listen to me.
Ferit finds Seyran. What happened? Nothing, she replies, we just talked. Ferit asks what did you talk about? I told her everything, Seyro answers, she knows. What exactly, Ferit asks. I told her what our relationship is really like, she says. He’s not happy. Seyro says she had no choice, otherwise her sister wouldn’t have understood. Suna will talk to Yusuf, and he will leave us alone.
Ferit is good with that since he blames Suna for this mess. Seyran is ticked. Don’t you care about other people’s feelings? He says it has nothing to do with feelings. You’re just looking to shift the blame to me. So you don’t think this is your fault, she asks, you think you’re the victim here? I’m not saying that, he replies. You better not, Seyro answers. Suna isn’t doing well. Her mental state is worsening. Going out and seeing the city would do her good.
Ferit agrees and asks, do you want to go out with her? Do you want me to talk to your father? Yes, but how will you do it, she asks, you know what he’s like. Ferit knows. I’ll convince him, he says, I’ll handle it. Seyfer leave the room.
Kazim Baba, I have a request, Ferit says. Seyran really misses her sister. If you allow, I’d like to take them both out for a drive. I’d like to show them around Istanbul. Hattuc speaks up. That wouldn’t be appropriate. You can only go with your wife. Ferit asks why. If you don’t trust me, then say so. I’ll keep my distance until you’re back in Antep. Only Seyran will come to visit.
Kazim sits up. What are you saying, damat? You’re part of our family. How can that be? Auntie overreacted. She’s just worried because the girls don’t know the city. Suna wanders into the room and listens. Aunt Hattuc is right, Ferit replies, but I’ll be with them. Kazim turns to Hattuc. You can relax, Ferit will be with them. Hattuc frowns. Kazim gives permission. Suna is happy. Ferit thanks him.
Halis and Latif walk to the back of the yali and stand by the water. Halis breathes in the sea air and recalls, I was young… I remember there was a storm when I first crossed Istiklal (Independence) Avenue [a famous avenue in Istanbul.] There was an elderly man walking who didn’t have an umbrella. I felt sorry for him and offered to buy him one. He laughed and said, “Rain will fall upon us many more times, never mind.” I’ve been thinking about him lately. Now I ask myself, how many more times will I be able to smell the sea?
There will be many more times, Latif responds, and there will also be plenty of rain. You think so, Halis asks. Of course, Latif answers. I’m bothered, Halis says, I’m old and they don’t listen to me anymore, they don’t understand me. This family won’t even let me sleep at night. They live in their own world.
Times have changed, Latif replies, don’t compare yourself to them. Your flame has sparked for as long as I can remember, shining bright as you pursued your interests, your loves… now it can be rare to find those things. You’re right, Halis says, I’m also at fault. My love never faltered though my interest has as a got older. I began to pay less attention. I wish I could go back in time.
#12 part 5
Gulgun is in the living room. Ifakat enters. She asks if Asuman is in her room. Yes, Gulgun replies, she’s resting. Don’t go now. Ifakat says, that’s okay, I’ll see her later. Gulgun notes that Asuman is depressed but hopefully she will recover soon.
Ifakat scolds her. I’m shock at how inconsiderate you are. Maybe you don’t realize what you are doing. This woman will never be the same again. You’ll see soon enough, Gulgun says, I think we could all use a distraction. I’ll invite Esme over for dinner. Ifakat tells her this is not the right time. You were in Antep and the hospital for too long. You’ve pushed your duties aside. It’s time to go back to normal.
They are my guests more than yours, Gulgun says, if you don’t mind, I will invite her for tea. Ifakat fights her on this. I will invite them when I think it is proper to do so! That way, everyone knows their place! Gulgun laughs, my place? You should see yours first to understand mine. Ifakat asks, are you going to complain to your husband? Gulgun scoffs. She calls to invite Esme while smirking at Ifakat. And she invites Hattuc, too.
Ifakat is angry and demands Gulgun call back and cancel. A booming voice calls out—Ifakat! It’s Halis. Why are you being so disrespectful to each other? Gulgun explains she invited Seyran’s family tomorrow for tea. Ifakat says, I told her she should have asked us if we were available. We are getting provisions tomorrow. Staff will be busy. Tomorrow is not the best day. Gulgun says that Hattuc took such good care of them in Antep. It would be rude to cancel, but of course, it’s up to you.
Halis notes that Gulgun acted without asking. But what’s done is done. So prepare everything and welcome our guests. Gulgun said the magic word, Hattuc. She wins this round.
Ferit is driving Seyran and Suna. Suna wishes her mom was with them. Ferit tells her he didn’t ask because Hattuc might have come too. We can go with your mom another day. Seyran is surprised Kazim allowed it. Ferit thought he was easy to convince. But Aunt Hattuc hates me, he notes, and she’s not ashamed to show it. They all smile.
Suna gets a call and quickly shuts her phone. Ferit asks, who is it? Are you trying to control me too, Suna replies. That wouldn’t be a bad idea, Ferit says, I was just asking. Why are you so nervous? It’s a friend from Antep, Dilan, Suna says. [yes, it’s Yusuf and Seyran knows.]
Ferit asks, why didn’t you answer? Seyro steps in -what’s it to you? Leave her alone. Suna says that the friend knows she’s in Istanbul and will ask a lot of questions. Seyran suggests texting Dilan so she will stop calling. Suna does that. Ferit looks suspicious. Ferit has a flashback to Antep when Seyran told him how do you know I don’t have someone? I might have other plans!
Where do you want to go, Ferit asks, a café, restaurant, the mall… Seyro asks, you’re not coming with us? No, he replies, you missed your sister, you have a lot to talk about and I have things to do. Okay, Seyro answers, say hello to Pelin for me.
Latif comes to the kitchen to make sure things will be right for the visit tomorrow. Sefika reminds him the provisions are coming. Then you should have started earlier, Latif says and he starts to walk away. Sefika mutters, I can’t catch a break. It’s like we’re slaves here. Latif hears this. Sultan clears her throat so Sefika will stop talking.
Latif asks, Sefika hanım, what is wrong? How can you say this? What example are you setting? He calls her ungrateful. Now he leaves. Sefika cries. Ibo and Sultan comfort her. Sultan says she’ll call Dicle to help and they will all get it done. Dicle comes to the kitchen and asks her mom to come with her.
#12 part 6
Ferit shows up at Pelin’s with her favorite ice cream. She gives him a little peck and a hug. He looks a little uncomfortable. But inside the door, he grabs her and plants a kiss on her. His eyes open and we see he’s thinking of the stolen kiss he planted on Seyran. He backs away from Pelo. She asks, why did you stop? Let’s have the ice cream first, he says. Ferit looks confused by this intrusive thought.
Ferit calls Abidin. Are you there yet? Almost, Abi replies. Come back if you see they are alone, Ferit tells him, otherwise, you’ll have to intervene. Let me know.
Seyran and Suna have coffee in a restaurant. Suna notes this plan wouldn’t have worked if Ferit hadn’t left them. Are you sure about this, she asks. It’s our best chance of closing this chapter for good, Seyran replies. Suna says she could have spoken to Yusuf. You didn’t see him this morning, Seyro answers, he won’t leave me alone until I talk to him.
Yusuf shows up and Suna leaves the table. Call if you need me. Suna warns Yusuf to make it quick. He sits. How are you, my Seyran? What do you mean “my Seyran”? Did you forget the nonsense you pulled this morning? He starts to apologize. She interrupts, did you see the position you put me in? How dare you threaten me. I don’t even recognize you.
Please forgive me, he says, I’m still the same Yusuf. I’m not here to argue. I’m here because I care about you. All I’m asking is that you go back to your life in Antep, Seyran replies. It ended the day you abandoned me. I didn’t want to let you down, he says, I was scared. I didn’t think you’d actually get married.
Seyran says she had no choice. Yusuf questions, if you’re so brave, why didn’t you run by yourself? Did you really need me? She doesn’t answer. There’s a reason for that, he says, the heart halts the feet. It’s true, she replies, this is also my fault. I thought you’d give me strength. But this ended up being a good thing for me. After all this time, I never really knew you.
Yusuf says this isn’t his fault. You agreed to marry that man and now you blame me for not accepting it? I was just reacting after what your sister said. You never trusted me, Seyran tells him, why did you believe her? Because she’s your sister, he replies. You forgave her. Forgive me, too. We can run away together now. He holds out his hand.
She can’t believe this. I’m married now. Understand? She shows her ring. Whatever we had ended when I signed the paper. Get it in your head, there’s no going back. But your sister said your marriage is fake, he replies. Not to my parents or his, she answers. I can’t just run away. I don’t want you anymore. Don’t worry, you don’t have to apologize for your lack of courage. Please go, Yusuf. My life is already in chaos. Don’t make it worse.
And we are out.
Wonderful summary, Dondi! Yusuf makes me crazy! He needs to go home!
Do you need me to do epispde 13? I hope we will attract a few more to take on this job. But I can keep sharing the labor with you.

Antonia manages to get Dante to back off his declarations of attraction and jealousy of Lobo. She threatens to stop working with him.
Lobo has gotten hold of hone of El Azufrero’s sicarios, El Martillo. He contacts Antonia to say the guy will talk.
Guillermina insults Cruz some more, but she’s in danger of losing her place there.
El Az and Graciela get it on.
Martillo is killed in prison, by Dante I think.
Antonia questions Graciela. She sees El Az’s gum on a side table. Antonia hardly gets a minute alone at the cop shop without Dante breathing down her neck.’
She tells Adela she’s decided to believe Lobo.
Lobo is apparently a pilot. He’s renting a small place. But because Dante plastered Mexico City with his photo, the attendant at the rental place calls the police.
El Az plans to beat the police there and grab up Renata.
There was announcement on Telemundo about a podcast. I'm watching it right now. Get to You Tube and enter podcast lobo morir matando and you'll see an interview with Arap Bethke.
Novelera: Thank you very much for the recap of last night's episode. I'll be posting my personal thoughts on last night's episode sometime this afternoon.
El Martillo's neck was bloody, and Dante and Cruz were not bloody. I suspect they gave M the knife and encouraged him to kill himself. M knew he was a dead man as soon as he was caught - that is why he was so glum.
Antonia, when talking to Graciela, found out that the flowers at the funeral were from Grupo Cabrera. She realizes that Sr. Cabrera (Azufrero) was involved in the death of Los Colinas.
At the small airport, when Lobo was renting the Cessna, Renata picked up a can of spray paint. Could come in handy.
Yeah, Yusuf is a wimp but he did have a point when he said Seyran could have run away on her own.
Ferit knew what the sisters were up to right away. You can’t BS a BSer like Ferit.
Thanks, Babachita. If you can take #13, I can do #14, but it will probably be a brief one. I appreciate your help.
I don’t know if we will get other recappers. We don’t have many viewers and we are all at different episodes. Let’s try to stick to the order, even if it’s not daily, in the hopes that some will catch up with us. If we miss a day, no big deal. We are behind in episodes anyway. Those that are ahead can always comment on the latest recap.
We are hurting for viewers and recappers in general. Lobo doesn’t have a regular recap schedule either. We barely have discussions for either show.
Anastasia, good point about them forcing El Martillo to slit his own throat. I had not thought of that. And, yes, Anastasia definitely is onto El Azufrero being behind the deaths of the De la Colinas. She has another attribute of fictional, and perhaps real, detectives. She notices Graciela's tense behavior. I laughed at the remark about giving up a vice when she noticed los chicles on a table. I haven't heard that word in a long time. Decades ago, I drove into Tijuana with my ex and little kids selling chewing gum were quite prevalent.
Even if you're not watching Lobo, I highly recommend the You Tube I mentioned above, an interview with Arap Bethke. What a charmer! I liked the interviewer as well. Arap complimented the guy on astute questions. Questions were asked and answered also about Arap's strong environmentalism. There are Spanish subtitles, but I found it easy to understand both speakers and could have turned them off.
I have to agree about recappers and commenters being thin on the ground here at Telemundo Central. I do wish some lurkers would chime in. I have commented dozens of times that doing recaps can be a 15-minute job. When I do a quickie, I write a note about major things, an opinion I might have about a character's behavior, type it up in Word, copy and paste it into the blog. Soooo easy.
I'm watching the streaming one on Peacock. I mute the commercials and read stuff on my phone. I already have Netflix, Prime TV and pay Amazon more to get BritBox, so I'm not going to pay for premium Peacock. The one thing I find hard, at least for me, is discerning what episode number I'm on. When I open Peacock on my Roku device, and choose Poder y Traición, it just jumps onto the next episode. And when I come here, it's hard to guess which recap to read. When watching on a regular network television station, I've recorded it and the episode number is right there when I select it from my list of recordings.
So, where I think I am is the episode where Ferit drives Seyran to see her mother and sister. SO grateful Kazim was out walking in Istanbul, doubtless gloating about having put one over on the Korhans. And I also got a twinge at Suna looking angry finding out Seyran had met Ferit before the big coffee dumping fiasco. I've so enjoyed these two staying close, and I hope it passes quickly with Seyran giving the full explanation about the spilled almonds.
Was this also the same episode where Kazim showed up and said something about Ferit having been ill? It seemed to me that they kept the diabetic coma from Halis. And also that Kazim might want to extract something more from the Korhans for having accepted an inferior bridegroom.
Howdy from the Alamo City, CarayCaray Family. Here's my super-short recap of last night's episode.
*Gruesome way to go for Martillo. Oh well 😕
*Buji Gracelia has so many secrets & I'm interested in seeing her backstory.
*Slippery Cruz & Scumbag Dante keep upping the ante even further.
*What exactly did Lobo do to piss off half of law enforcement, some of whom want him dead ?
*Anastasia better watch her back.
*Of course, Gullible Antonia still gullible.
I stopped watching this as it is a bit too gory for me, and I'm watching 5 different TNs at this time so it was easy to choose to quit this. It's a shame as I really like Arap and found the child actress very good. As others have commented Antonia isn't doing much for me though I only watched about 4 episodes. I'll try to check out the interview when I have some free time.
I'm at episode 16 but haven't watched in weeks waiting for the patio to catch up. I'll need to watch an episode or 2 to get the characters straight again, then I can recap.
Episode 13 #1
Golden Boy – Poder y traicion – Yali Capkini
“Threats Rain Down” – La amenazas caen como lluvia
(Short recap from end of episode 12)
Suna and Seyran are having coffee in a restaurant. Yusuf shows up and Suna offers to stay. Seyran says no, and Suna says she will be nearby and to let her know if she needs anything.
As she leaves, Suna tells Yusuf to make it quick and not to cause any more trouble. He agrees.
He sits at the table.
Yusuf: My dear Seyran, how are you?
Seyran makes a face and asks: What do you mean “my dear Seyran?” Have you forgotten about this morning’s nonsense?
Yusuf starts to speak and she interrupts him: Do you see the position you put me in? How dare you threaten me? I don’t recognize you. Who are you, Yusuf?
Yusuf: Please forgive me. I’m still the same Yusuf. I’m not here to argue with you. I’m here because I care about you.
Seyran: Yusuf, all I’m asking is that you go back to your life in Antep. Do you understand? Our relationship ended the day you abandoned me.
Yusuf: I didn’t want to let you down. I got scared. I didn’t think you’d actually get married.
Seyran: What choice did I have?
Yusuf: If you’re so brave, why didn’t you run away on your own? Did you really need me? There’s a reason you didn’t do it. The heart halts the feet.
Seyran: That’s true. This is my fault, too.
[I ask how on earth she would support herself on her own, and it appears that in Antep it’s also important to have a man to protect a single woman. She had no choice unless her father would support it, IMO.]
Seyran continues: I thought you gave me strength. But this ended up being a good thing. After all this time, I realized that I never really knew you.
Yusuf: This wasn’t my fault, Seyran. You agreed to marry that man, and now you blame me for not accepting it? Later, I was just reacting after what your sister said.
Seyran: You never trusted me. Why did you believe her?
Yusuf: She’s your sister. You forgave her. Forgive me, too.
Yusuf holds out his hand to her: We can run away together now.
Seyran looks at him as if he has three heads: Yusuf, I’m married now. Look, I’m a married woman. (She shows him her wedding band.) Whatever we had, it ended the moment I signed the papers. Get it in your head. There’s no going back.
Yusuf is clenching his fist on the table.
Yusuf: Your sister said your marriage is a lie.
Seyran: Not to my parents. Or his. I can’t just run away now. I don’t want you anymore. Besides, you know the truth now. Your manhood isn’t being threatened. Yusuf, please go away. My life is chaotic enough. Please don’t make it worse. Go away!
Suna is pacing around in front of the restaurant. Abidin drives up. He apparently doesn’t recognize her because her back is turned, and he enters the restaurant.
Yusuf (clearly not getting the message): Do you not love me anymore?
Seyran: Broken trust ends everything, Yusuf. I said what I had to say. Bye.
She gets up: Please don’t look for me again.
She turns to leave and is stunned to see Abidin.
Abidin: Come with me, Miss.
Yusuf stands up and Abidin looks at him. Abidin asks if he is bothering her.
Yusuf, [clueless as ever]: Who the hell are you?
Abidin: Calm down, you’ll find out soon enough.

Episode 13 #2
Seyran, holding her head: Abidin, let’s go.
Yusuf: You don’t have to go with him.
Seyran: Yusuf, shut up! I’m begging you, please shut up!
She looks at Abidin and heads out of the restaurant.
Abidin continues to stare at Yusuf.
Seyran: Abidin, let’s go. I have to find my sister.
They head out, but Abidin turns to stare at Yusuf again, memorizing his face no doubt, and nods at Yusuf.
As Seyran reaches the street, Suna asks her what happened. Seyran is wiping back tears: Let’s go, Suna. Seyran takes Suna’s hand.
Abidin tells Suna he will take her home, too, and both girls get in the car.
Yusuf sees this from the restaurant and runs out as they drive off. His fists are clenched.
In the car, Abidin is looking at both girls in the rear-view-mirror. Their expressions are very serious. Suna decides to “talk” with Seyran by text.
Suna: Are you OK?
Seyran: I feel bad. Ferit found out and sent Abidin over.
Suna: I’ll be by your side. We can plan something. Don’t be afraid, sis.
Seyran’s eyes are red from crying. She covers her eyes in distress.
Abidin is still watching. Then the girls hold hands, Suna trying to comfort Seyran. Seyran looks at the window in pain. [This actress is able to convey so much emotion! I’m impactada by it all.]
Meanwhile, Ferit and Pelin are enjoying her favorite ice cream in her apartment. They start to get down to business, but Ferit’s phone rings. He sees two messages from Abidin. Pelin wants him to tell her what’s going on, but Ferit tells her he has to go. She tries to stop him by grabbing his arm. This angers Ferit: Let go of my arm. I have to go.
Pelin: Why do you do this to me? You come and go as your please without any explanations. (She cradles his head in her hands, but he has a very frowny face.) What am I to you? Do you not care about my feelings?
Ferit removes her hands: I’m sorry, but now’s not the time to discuss this. I have to go. It’s an emergency, OK?
Pelin: Stay. I don’t understand what could be an emergency.
Ferit: Pelin!
Pelin: I feel like I’ll lose you if you go now. Please don’t leave me.
He pries her hands off his neck: Listen, I’m, very upset, and the last thing I want to do is hurt you. Understand? I’ll see you later.
Pelin [She really has it bad here, what an offer!]: Would taking it out on me help? To calm you? That emergency can wait. They can wait.
Ferit turns and thinks. He puts his hand around her neck. [I’m hoping this doesn’t mean he’s thinking of her offer!]: You’re right.
We see Abidin’s car driving through town to Suna’s building. He tells her they have arrived, and she agrees. Seyran asks to accompany Suna to the door. Abidin agrees. As they walk, Suna offers to go with Seyran back to her place. Seyran declines: It’s OK. You have to go back or Dad will punish us if he finds out about this.
Suna: What about Ferit?
Seyran: I’ll take care of him. You being there would only make it worse.
The girls look at one another solemnly and hug. Both are crying. Abidin is watching them.
Suna: Try to be calm. Don’t let him mistreat you. He went to see his girlfriend. Don’t let him scold you. He has no right to be upset. Please, say something. Do you think he’ll beat you?
Seyran: I doubt it. I doubt he’s anything like Dad.
Suna: I’ll have my phone on me, in case you feel like talking.
Seyran: Thank you, sister. Relax, I’ll be fine. Go on.
Suna slowly walks away.
There is genuine fear in Seyran’s face as she watches her sister leave. Suna says to herself: Don’t let him do anything, sister!

Episode 13 #3
Seyran walks to the car. They reach the yali. Seyran asks Abidin for a favor. He is surprised and looks at her. She tells him it is important for her.
Seyran: I had to meet up with that guy to put an end to things. Lying to Ferit was the only way to do it. I’m not usually like this. I don’t want Ferit to get the wrong impression. Could you not tell Ferit what you saw? Tell him I was with Suna. Just this once.
[I’m thinking he may have texted Ferit already about this and that was the emergency Ferit told Pelin about, in which case Seyran is too late in asking this.]
Abidin is gripping the steering wheel and thinking hard.
Seyran: If you do this huge favor for me, I’ll never forget it. I’ll never put you in this position again.
Abidin looks back and forth, thinking. He unhooks his seat belt, gets out and opens Seyran’s door. He watches her walk into the yali. Apparently, he says nothing in response to her plea.
She walks up the stairs and hears a conversation and so turns around and walks back downstairs. Gulgun is encouraging Asuman to run a charity for stray animals, to keep her mind off things. She would have a crucial role. Fuat agrees with this. She is assured by Gulgun that she would enjoy the sisterhood from these events.
Asuman answers that she has a different idea in mind that she hasn’t even talked to Fuat about. She wants to start working.
Fuat: Wow, that’s great news.
Gulgun smiles.
Seyran enters and greets them. Gulgun asks her to join them.
Seyran: Are you feeling better, Asuman?
Asuman: Yes, thank you.
Gulgun: Where is Ferit? Did he go straight to his room?
Seyran: He had something to do; he’ll be back in an hour.
Gulgun: Are you OK? You look pale.
Seyran: I’m OK. Everything is fine.
Suddenly, Seyran notices a ticking clock with a moving pendulum on a table. This triggers a memory.
FLASHBACK: In the Sanli home there is a different clock ticking with a pendulum moving back and forth. Seyran is a little girl, looking around her father’s study. She responds to the clock, moving back and forth subtly in time with the pendulum. She opens a drawer and looks at his collection of what I think are prayer beads. (Kazim is always fiddling with these.) She plays with some of the beads, smiling, and then tries to stretch one over her head probably to wear as a necklace. It breaks, of course, and beads fall and bounce all over. (We see grown-up Seyran, wide-eyed, remembering this trauma.) Young Seyran realizes it’s almost time for Kazim to come, and we see the fear in the eyes of both older and younger Seyran along with the reflections of the ticking clocks. [I found this scene very disturbing. I had anxiety just watching it!] Then we see a needle and see that Suna has come in to restring the beads. Now that I think of it, it could be Suna that broke the prayer beads, but because we see the clock reflection in older Seyran, I assume she is the “guilty” sister. Also, Suna is the older sister, who would better know how to fix this. Anyway, they work to put the beads back together, Suna telling her not to worry. Seyran says: Dad will beat me if he finds out.
Suna: I’ll tell him it was my fault. Don’t worry.
Seyran: Then he’ll beat you. And it’s not your fault.
Suna tells her to say nothing. If I can’t fix it in time, you’ll stay quiet, OK?
Seyran: OK.
The fear on the face of Seyran as she watches the clock is very frightening.
Grown-up Seyran is in a trance with this memory and is crying, also watching a ticking clock.

Later we see Suna calling Seyran, who is in her attic changing clothes. She answers.
Suna: You haven’t called.
Seyran: I didn’t call because Ferit isn’t back yet.
Suna: Does he usually get home late?
Seyran: Not this late. It’s almost time for dinner. He should be here. It’s very weird.
Suna: It’s OK, it’s better this way. He’s probably not as angry anymore.
Seyran: I asked Abidin not to tell him, but he didn’t answer me. I don’t know what will happen.
Suna: Why did you ask him that? He’s not going to do it. You wasted your time.
Seyran: I didn’t think of that. I just asked him. Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.
Esme enters the room and asks Suna for help with some guests that Kazim is bringing home.
Suna to Seyran: Unbelievable, we have to tend to his friends now. I’m talking to Mom, Seyran.
Esme tells her to hurry up.
Suna tells Seyran she has to hang up, but that she should call if anything happens, anything at all. Seyran agrees.
Seyran is about to leave to go downstairs for dinner when her phone rings.
She asks who’s calling.
Yusuf: It’s me, Seyran.
Seyran: Why won’t you stop calling me, Yusuf?
Yusuf: I’m worried about you.
Seyran: You don’t have to worry anymore. I’ll be fine once you stop calling me, so stop worrying and leave me alone!
Yusuf: Why do you say that, Seyran? Are you afraid of that idiot?
Seyran: I’m not afraid of anyone. I’ve said what I had to say!
Yusuf: But I haven’t finished what I want to say.
We see Dicle going to the dining room with an empty tray.
Carlos opens the front door for Ferit who runs in, thanking Carlos.
Gulgun sees him: Where were you? Didn’t you see the time?
Ferit tells her he will be down quickly.
Gulgun: Your wife was home. Were you with Pelin?
Ferit: Mom, you know this marriage isn’t real. Didn’t you tell me nothing in my life would change? You promised me. This isn’t real.
Gulgun: You’re right. I did say that.
Ferit: Then follow through on your promises, OK? If you excuse me, I’ll be right down.
Gulgun tells him the table is almost ready and to get Seyran and come downstairs immediately.
In the attic, Seyran is still yelling at Yusuf: I told you clearly to stop calling me!
Yusuf: You’re doing all of this for that man?
Seyran: I’ve said this a million times, stop calling me. I don’t love you anymore!
Yusuf: I don’t believe it. I know you still love me.
Seyran: I don’t trust you anymore, Yusuf. There can be no love without trust. Please don’t call me again.
She hangs up and he looks at his phone as if he can’t believe it.
Ferit walks in. He tells her she can keep talking. She doesn’t need to hang up.
She tells him she was just talking to Suna but then her battery died. She goes over to plug it in. Ferit: You’re still talking to your sister. Did you not have enough time today? (He smiles at himself.). I guess you didn’t. You two must have a lot to catch up on. You’ll have to get together again to talk face to face in order to fully catch up. That’s what you were doing, right?
He stares at her intently: Right, wife? Answer me, please. Is that what you did? You and Suna were alone in that coffee shop? (Seyran hesitates) I asked you a question. (His voice is very loud by now.)

He asks her again if she and Suna were alone in that coffee shop.
Seyran: Ferit, can you please calm down.
Ferit: Why? Were you acting behind my back? Was it your sister’s brilliant idea? Who do you think you are?
Seyran: Calm down, Ferit. Don’t speak ill of my sister. Besides, it was my fault. I did it on my own. But you forced me to.
Ferit, whose voice is becoming more raised with each sentence: How did I force you? Have I forced you into anything since we got married?
Seyran: I was forced to marry you.
Ferit: I’m going to lose my mind. I’m going crazy.
Seyran: (Suddenly we are talking about Yusuf here. This confusing transition might be better in the original.) He wouldn’t have stopped bothering us until he talked to me.
Ferit: I asked if he was threatening you, and you said no. I asked you not to see him, but you did. Why’s you have to see him? Do you miss him that much?
Seyran: You mean the way you miss her? The way you’re always with her? I didn’t want to see him.
Ferit, yelling: Seyran, you’re driving me crazy! I’ve been honest with you from the beginning. But you’ve been lying to me, conspiring with your sister.
Seyran: Is that your problem? Me lying? I explained the situation, and you didn’t hear me. You forced me to lie. I’m not your prisoner, OK? I won’t be the new toy your parents bought you…
Ferit starts kicking things in the room.
Downstairs, the dining room looks about ready. Latif says he is ready to bring Halis, but he first enters the sitting room and asks about Ferit and his wife. Gulgun tells him they’re almost there. Orhan tells Sultan to go tell them to hurry.
Gulgun decides to send a text as well. Orhan tells Latif to be sure the table is ready for Halis. Latif trudges in, knowing they are just stalling for time and that the table is ready.
Meanwhile we see Halis putting the finishing touches on his clothing. He has a very serious expression and takes out his pocket watch to check the time.
At the top of the stairs, Sultan, smiling, overhears the couple arguing.
Ferit: That’s your only defense! There’s no excuse for what you did today!
Seyran: You can’t treat me like that. Why can’t you understand why I had to do this?
Ferit: So, it’s my fault? From day one, I’ve tried to make you feel comfortable.
Seyran: I can tell. You’ve really put in your best effort.
(Sultan’s mouth is gaping open, as she listens to all this!)
Seyran: You only think about yourself. You don’t care about others’ feelings. You’re so selfish! She pokes her finger in his chest to punctuate these comments.
Ferit: You’re trying to blame me for everything. You’re the selfish one. You’re a liar. You shamelessly yell at me. Why don’t you yell at me in front of your father? Why didn’t you yell at him when you refused to marry me? I’m sure he would have been OK with it. (He mocks Kazim here: “That’s fine, daughter, you don’t have to marry that man. Miss Seyran has decided she doesn’t want to get married.” Ferit laughs at this. Great. The only thing I’m at fault for is being respectful to you.
Sultan is smiling and enjoying this. She heads back down the stairs without reminding them about dinner.
Gulgun is texting from the table, but Ferit isn’t answering.
Orhan asks Gulgun why Sultan isn’t coming down yet? Asuman tells them Seyran isn’t answering her text, either.
Latif is muttering to himself about Sultan when she returns. He asks Sultan where they are when she comes in the dining room.
Sultan: I knocked on their door, but I could hear them arguing. I’m guessing they didn’t hear me over the yelling. I knocked multiple times. (We didn’t see this, but it’s possible this happened.)

As soon as Sultan mentions the argument, both parents jump up to go to Ferit’s room, but it’s too late. Halis enters the room and asks Latif what was going on. Did he lose track of time? Why didn’t you come up?
Latif: I was just about to, sir.
Halis stands at the base of the table with his cane counting heads. Then he tells everyone to take their seats.
At the head of the table, Halis’ expression is hardening.
Back upstairs, Ferit tells Seyran this is the only time he will tolerate this. If you lie to me again, you’ll regret it. Don’t ever conspire behind my back again. Never.
Seyran: What are you going to do to me? Huh? Are you going to hit me? Lock me in a cage? Torture me? I’ve already experienced all of that. I’m not afraid of you. Are you trying to scare me? Go ahead. I’m not afraid of you.
Ferit: You choose. You can face me, my parents, or my grandfather. If he found out about this, He’d send you back to your father immediately. Pick your poison.
Seyran: It’s my turn to ask questions now. What would my father say if he knew about Pelin? Have you thought about that? What will happen the next time he visits your grandfather? Does that not scare you?
Ferit looks unsettled, and then he suddenly realizes how later it is: Dinner!
He looks at his phone and sees the messages: This can’t be. We’re late.
Seyran: Calm down, someone would have told us if he was at the table.
Ferit: I have multiple missed calls. Come on, get ready!
They head down the stairs. They walk in, seeing the whole family waiting for them to arrive before they begin dinner.
Halis: Ahh, welcome dear children.
Everyone is looking daggers at the couple as they go to their seats.
Halis: Please take a seat. We were waiting for you.
Ferit: Please forgive us. We are sorry.
Halis’ face is scrunching up with anger.
Ferit: It won’t happen again.
They take their seats.
Halis: In all my years, no one has ever sat at the table after me. (He starts pounding on the table with his fist, making the glasses jump.) This is the first time in my life I’ve had to put up with so much disrespect! Who do you think you are?
(Ferit looks like he’s about to explode while Seyran is looking crushed, not raising her eyes.)
Halis: Who are you without your last name, Ferit? It used to be one, now there’s two. The girl’s young and ignorant. Following in his footsteps. Ifakat, Gulgun, I asked you to teach the girl our customs and traditions. (He pounds the table repeatedly while saying this.) Why didn’t you do it?
Ifakat: I’m sorry. She was doing so well.
Halis cuts her off: Enough! Don’t blame her for your mistakes.
He finally has had enough and stands up: This dinner has been tainted. I’m going back to my room.
Everyone stands as Latif helps him out of the room.
Halis: Listen, Orhan, look me in the eyes! You and your wife are responsible for Ferit. If you can’t respect the family, then… (He is so worked up that he doesn’t finish this threat.)
Orhan and Gulgun look at Ferit, who finally seems to be taking this seriously. Orhan is making little snarling motions with his lip.
Fuat and Asuman leave, Fuat wishing them bon appetit.
Orhan: Fuat! Stay. Pretend he’s still sitting here. (To everyone) Let’s have dinner. Take a seat. Asuman encourages Fuat to sit down as well.
Ifakat is about to cry and looks at Orhan intently.

After the meal, Ferit and Seyran are back in their attic. He rips the duvet off the bed and grabs a pillow, throwing them on the couch.
Ferit: You see what you did? I hope it was worth it.
Seyran looks at him, not believing what he just said. She arranges her bed on the couch.
Ferit brings her her charged phone: Why don’t you text him? You can see him again tomorrow.
Ferit: Congratulations (to you two), by the way. I had a lovely evening, thanks to you.
Seyran thinks about what to say: That’s rich of you, blaming me. You asked Abidin to follow me. You started the argument. What do you want from me? Do I ask for an explanation whenever you see Pelin? Your ego’s the reason we were late for dinner.
Ferit: My ego’s the reason we’re in trouble?
Seyran: Mmm Hmm.
Ferit: Bravo, Seyran. You always have an answer ready. This was all my fault. You did nothing wrong. I agreed to take you to your sister because you asked. When your ex-boyfriend showed up, I kept your secret. That was all my ego. Thank you.
He walks to the bathroom. Seyran gets a text from an unknown number. It’s from Yusuf and is a selfie of Seyran and Yusuf taken sometime in the past: We’ll meet again, Seyran, and you’re going to listen to me. If you don’t recognize your love for me, I’ll post this on social media for everyone to see.
Suna has texted: Are you OK, sister?
Seyran: I’m fine, don’t worry.
Seyran is very impactada by Yusuf’s text.
We see Kazim’s penthouse. He brings two buddies with him, telling them this is his humble abode. The concierge welcomes Mr. Kazim. Kazim says: What? I’m the patriarch here, show some respect. (Apparently Mr. isn’t sufficiently important.
He tells his friends that the concierge will learn someday. They smile at him.
He turns around again and asks it the concierge did what he asked him to do. He assures him that he did. Kazim tells his buddies (Ismet and Memis) to follow him.
Hattuc answers their door. She welcomes them after they give her the kiss of respect. Kazim asks her if the table is ready. She tells him of course. They ask Hattuc if she remembers them. Kazim: They’re friends from the military. From Urfa. We visited Antep together once while on a break.
Hattuc appears to either remember them or is being polite and pretending to. She says: Unbelievable. It’s been so long.
Kazim: Military friends are forever.
She ushers them all into the main room. Esme tells them welcome, and they give her a short nod. (Did they think she was part of the staff?) Kazim tells Esme to get Suna to help her serve. Esme tells him she is asleep. He insists that she wake her up. Now. He also tells her to tell Suna to dress appropriately and to come out of her room.
He asks if she understood. She doesn’t say anything, so he knocks her on the forehead, asking if she understood him and calls her an airhead.
She agrees to get Suna.
He exults over the food on the table, saying all they are missing is Lion’s Milk.

Episode 13 #8
Back at the yali, Asuman is reading in bed. Fuat enters in his pajamas and says he is not sleepy and wants to watch a movie. Asuman apologizes but tells him she is not in the mood for a movie. She tells him she was anxious all day. Fuat teases her: Only today? It’s always. He tells her to calm down and not worry. It’s OK.
Asuman: Seyran worries me. She looked so upset.
Fuat: I wonder what they were arguing about.
Asuman: Their families married them off. They don’t know each other. It’s hard to click right away.
Fuat: I’m lucky I never went through that. I married the woman I love. (He kisses her cheek affectionately.)
Asuman: That right.
Fuat: Ferit was supposed to get it together once he got married.
Asuman: That’s not how it works, Fuat. If you raise a spoiled kid, you can’t expect his wife to change him.
Fuat: Let’s talk about something else. I’ll pick the movie, since you don’t want to watch it.
Back to Kazim’s party. Lots of happy drinking and eating among the three pals.
Hattuc asks if they need anything else.
Kazim: You surprised me, Aunt, everything’s amazing. Go rest. Allah bless your hands. (To his friends) This food is better than any restaurant in Antep.
Esme and Suna are waiting.
Kazim calls Suna to pick up the plates.
One of the buddies tells him that Kazim brought Antep to Istanbul with the food and drink, but that they are missing the music.
Kazim asks, Music? Then he asks Esme to get him the remote and starts playing what must be music from Antep. The remote is at the far end of the coffee table. It is so typical that he calls his wife to bring what he could have easily reached himself. He doesn’t seem to know how to make it work, but Esme is able to start the music, showing him he needs to press the button in the middle. She walks off, shaking her head.
Back in the attic of the yali, Seyran is sleeping on the couch. It’s a lovely evening. Ferit is lying on the comfortable bed wide awake, with a tortured expression on his face. He gets up and walks out to the balcony, getting up precariously on the edge. He balances up there, looking out over the Bosphorus, and lifts his arms to the heavens. After a while, he goes back inside and walks over to Seyran, pulling her blanket over her. He looks at her affectionately. He gets back in his bed. Outside, we see Sultan walking, no doubt hoping he might reach out to her. Her face looks tortured as well.

Babachita: Looking forward to seeing your recap of Wednesday night's episode. Hoping there's some glimmer of hope for the Good Guys.
I just did a quick recap and lost it. Fudge - now I am short on time.
Ren and Lobo escaped hangar and are back at Lobo's house. Ren wants to go to her Aunt. Antonia is starting to believe Lobo. Cruz and Azufrero have renegotiated thir agreement, having double-crossed each other along the way.
Anastasia: Howdy from the Alamo City. My personal thoughts on last night's episode.
*Memo to Renata: Do NOT go to your aunt' house. She's up to no good.
*Slippery Cruz & Azufrero renegotiating their deal LOL. What could possibly go wrong ?
*Antonia slowly starts to believe Lobo. I hope she's careful because we both know Scumbag Dante is determined to get her by any means necessary.
