#39 part 1
Rewind: Halis wants Ferit found and brought to him asap or he will bring the entire yali down on everyone’s head. He was ready to deliver an ottoman slap to Orhan, but Ifakat intervened. He also gave Latif a good shake and a tongue lashing.
Outside Halis’ room, Orhan and Ifakat cry in each other’s arms. Then they head to her room.
As they drive to the country house, Pelin asks Ferit if he’s okay and if he wants to talk about what happened. Ferit says, my grandfather saw the photo in the paper. He slapped me in front of everyone. Pelo apologizes, I’m very sorry, this is my fault. You had nothing to do with this, Ferit replies. No one in that house really loves me. Don’t be ridiculous, Pelo says. It’s true, he tells her.
Pelo thinks if anything, they love Ferit too much. They spoil you. He snaps, don’t try to calm me down for once. I don’t believe any of it. She says, they would die for you. They are always worried about you. Have they ever refused you anything? I don’t care if they refused me everything, I just wish they loved me.
Pelo gives up. We can talk about it later. Change subject. Do you want to eat someplace or order delivery? We can stay for as long as you want. He doesn’t answer. She places her hand on his, everything will be alright. I’m here.
Seyran starts crying in the cab. Kazim gets angry. Shut up! You have no right to cry. Don’t make me angrier. How dare you lie to me! I’ll show you both. I’ve had a headache for days! I want you to see what that’s like. The cabbie gives Kazim the side eye.
Kazim continues, I asked what happened and you said you didn’t know! He slaps the dashboard. We’ll see when we get home. We’ll see what you know! The cabbie looks at Kazim. Kazim snaps, what are you looking at Uncle? Look at the road, not me. Don’t meddle in family matters, don’t make me angry. The girls hold onto each other in the back seat.
Hattuc has a headache from stress. She uses cologne. Esme brings her sage tea. Nothing can cure this headache, she says. [here’s the cure, get rid of Kazim.] He said he’d come back with the girls. This pain won’t go away, she whines, we have so many problems. Do you think he’ll do it, Esme asks. He was crazed when he left, Hattuc replies, I doubt he will return without them.
Doorbell. Banging on the door. Kazim is back with the girls. What did you do, Hattuc asks, I understand bringing Suna, but why bring Seyran? What else could I do, he replies, Ferit cheated on her! She couldn’t keep her husband at home! She’s as stupid as her mother! Hattuc notes that it was clear the groom was like this from the beginning. What is the girl’s fault?
Kazim replies, what is her fault? All my hard work, the money I invested, the private tutors, the classes… Sweat dripped from my face! And for what? For what! He throws his jacket. So she would never be disrespected! So she’d obey her husband! Damn you… he steps towards Seyran. She cowers beside Suna. Esme and Hattuc hold him back. He pushes Esme out of the way. He pries Seyran loose from Suna and drags her to the bedroom. He turns back to take Suna as well. Then he warns Esme not to interfere. Hattuc follows him.
The girls are shoved into the bedroom. He shouts—it would have been better if you had died when you were born! He directs Hattuc, no food, no water, no toilet. Let them suffocate on their own waste! He makes Suna hand over her phone.
#39 part 2
Hattuc tells Kazim to calm down. Leave them alone, they learned their lesson. She pulls him out of the room while he spouts about killing them. Seyran sinks to the floor and cries. Suna tries to comfort her. It’s okay. You’re okay. It will be okay. Suna starts crying too.
Ferit and Pelo arrive at the vacation house. Looks like they went shopping for food. It’s cold inside. There’s a fireplace. He looks at photos of Pelo when she was younger and laughs, how cute. He says he likes the place. Pelo gets a call from Gulgun. Ferit warns her to be careful. Don’t let them suspect anything.
Pelo handles it. Gulgun didn’t suspect anything. Pelo says that Gulgun sounded very worried. Ferit says he doesn’t care. She should have thought about it before breaking her promises.
Ferit is hungry. He asks Pelo to cook and he’ll light a fire. She asks him what he wants. He requests baked macaroni. She remembers that was the first meal she ever made for him. He laughs at the memory and tells her, you’ve never cooked anything as delicious as that. First times are not easily forgotten, she replies. [I think she made a point there.]
Abi and Sultan take a break. Ibo couldn’t have left at a worse time, she says. What would he be able to do, Abi replies, let him look after his father. Abi calls Pelo. She doesn’t answer. Mustafa comes running. He tells Abi cops have come and are asking for him. Abi says he’s got to find Orhan first. Stall the cops. Sultan asks what happened. He doesn’t tell and hurries off.
Everyone is on their phones trying to locate Ferit. Ifakat says they need to keep this quiet. Orhan complains about the mess Ferit has made. He’ll have men check hotels. Gulgun has called all Ferit’s friends with no luck. Asuman says it’s clear he doesn’t want to be found. Fuat is sure they will hear from him soon. This is typical Ferit.
Gulgun blames Ifakat. What did you expect? Of course he’d lie and go behind your back. You’ve instilled fear in him since he was a child. He had no other option. This is the empire of fear. Are we the guilty ones, Ifakat asks, you’re blaming us instead of questioning how you raised him? Look at Fuat. He grew up here too. Why isn’t he like Ferit? This is happening because you’ve spoiled Ferit. Orhan says that’s enough. Is it, Ifakat asks, that’s easy for her to say without knowing what we go through. Orhan repeats, that’s enough.
Abidin comes to speak with Orhan. They think it’s news about Ferit. Abi asks to speak privately. Orhan tells him to just say it, so Abi does. The police are outside. They want to take me. Abi hands over the chip from Taylan’s camera. He had other photos saved. I had to get rid of them. I went to his place.
Fuat asks, what photos? Abi explains, Ferit punched Taylan yesterday. He was provoking Ferit, and Ferit couldn’t contain himself. Taylan must have expected it because he had someone there to take photos.
Ifakat shouts,I can’t take this! Who do you work for Abidin!? What is your job here? Abi says he couldn’t stop Ferit, it happened so fast. Gulgun chimes in, you could have done something to stop it. Orhan tells her to shut up. He tells Abi to go to the station and give his statement. Find out the charges and I’ll call the lawyer.
Ferit stares into the fire and plays with his wedding ring. He takes it off, puts it back on. He heads over to the kitchen. He looks at Pelo’s prep. It looks great. He tells her, “iyi ki varsın” (I’m glad you exist/glad I have you.)
#39 part 3
Pelo says, I’m not trying to pressure you, but I’ll listen if you want to talk about it. There’s not much to tell, Ferit replies, Seyran betrayed me and then everything happened. I don’t know her well, Pelo says, but that doesn’t sound like her.
I thought so too, Ferit says, she actually covered for me several times before. But she told on me this time. Pelo thinks it makes no sense. Why would someone who was keeping secrets suddenly tell? Ferit says it’s simple. Grandpa would let her study if she told the truth. She did it without a second thought.
Seyran and Suna hold each other close. They wonder what will happen now. Seyran thinks Ferit will never forgive her. If only Halis Aga hadn’t slapped him in front of everyone, Suna replies. It’s all my fault, Seyran says, I ruined everything. Don’t be so hard on yourself, Suna answers. He was slapped once. What about us? I lost count of the beatings we received.
We have never received such beatings, Seyran says, and Ferit isn’t like us. Did you not see him at that moment? This hurt him very much. He is still like a child. His mischief, his anger, his jealousy… but his heart is pure. Suna notes that Seyro is more worried about Ferit than herself. Are you falling for Ferit? No, that’s not it, Seyro quickly answers, I feel sorry for him. Suna tells her she should feel sorry for herself, not Ferit.
Seyran wonders what Kazim will do. Suna has no idea, but this is serious. I don’t know if we can ever go back. Seyran thinks it’s over and says they will go back to Antep. Suna is not so sure about that. If your husband was not Ferit, that could happen. I’m not talking about the Korhans, I’m talking about Ferit. He won’t let that happen.
I’m not sure about that, Seyran says, he hates me now. Don’t be ridiculous, Suna replies, didn’t you just say he has a pure heart? He will realize you didn’t mean any harm, but it’s natural for him to be upset right now. Be patient. Everything will be okay.
This is like a joke, Ferit tells Pelo, after everything I’ve done for her, for her sister, Seyran handed me over just like that. Unbelievable. Pelo says, you’re very invested in this marriage. What does that have to do with anything, Ferit asks. You’re so upset about what she did, Pelo replies. Whose side are you on, he asks, what are you trying to say? I did so much for this girl, and she immediately handed me over. Do you think that’s right?
It was right for her, Pelo says, maybe not for you. I can’t blame her for this. After all, isn’t this her dream? If your grandfather promised her, it’s natural she’d do it. Ferit says, did you know her father beat her up so she would marry me? He locked her up in a basement without food or water. That was the only way she agreed to it.
Pelo laughs. She thinks that’s ridiculous. She calls him naïve. You believe that? Seyran must have been happy to marry you. Ferit says he thought so too but it turned out to be different. Pelo asks, then why are you so worried about this? He replies, why do I care so much? Because she is my wife. You know, we live in the same house… in the same room… maybe because of this?
Let me ask you this, Pelo says. Are you upset because Seyran was beaten, or because there was someone who didn’t want to marry the great Ferit Korhan? What does this have to do with it, Ferit answers. How would you feel if you married someone who doesn’t want to be with you?
#39 part 4
Pelo says she can answer that easily. He doesn’t understand. She explains, I, of my own free will, am with someone who doesn’t want me. Would we still be together if it wasn’t for my efforts? Ferit sighs, come on… you know perfectly well that I can’t be forced to stay somewhere I don’t want to be… no matter what you do. She asks, is that what you want?
Ferit loses his patience. I don’t get it Pelo. How did we end up talking about this? I wanted to vent for two minutes, and you managed to take the story back to us again. Helal olsun! Pelo confesses, Ferit, I’m tired of this uncertainty. I’m tired of you telling me about Seyran and the things you do together. I don’t get it, Pelo, Ferit snaps back, don’t get tired, okay? We’ve talked about this a million times, and you always bring it up! I’m not forcing you!
You told me nothing would change between us, Pelo reminds him, everything would stay the same. Do you remember telling me this before you married? You said your grandfather was forcing you. Look at us now! It turns out things are changing, Ferit replies, sometimes things change in life. For example, I wanted to continue my life in New York, but I came back to Istanbul. And if that wasn’t enough, I had to get married.
Pelo says that’s what she is talking about. I’m not in any of your plans or dreams. You know what makes us so different? You’re my everything. You are in all my plans. But there’s no room in your life or your dreams for me. Ferit answers, from now on, you won’t be. You have to move on… just like me. I’ve decided to start a new life. I’m leaving, Pelo. What does that mean, she asks.
I’m going back to New York, Ferit replies. Pelo is alarmed. Why, Ferit? Where does this come from? What does this mean? It means I’m going to New York, he says. I’ll leave on the first flight tomorrow. How can you just leave, she asks. I’ve been thinking about it, he answers, I’ll go and figure out what I’ll do. Anything is better than staying here.
Your grandfather would never allow it, Pelo says. I don’t need permission, Ferit replies, or money, or credit cards. I want nothing. So what will you do, she asks, you have no money… where will you stay? I’ll figure it out, he says, I have some money saved up. I’ll manage for a while, then think about it. Pelo wonders, you’ll go back home and tell everyone you’re going to America? You’ll pack your things, money, credit cards and say goodbye?
Ferit says no. I’ll go back tonight. Enter through the balcony, get my stuff and come back here. I’ll go to the airport from here tomorrow morning. Seyran will see you, she says. What will you tell her? Let her see me, he replies, I’ll tell her I need a break for a day or two.
Teary Pelo asks, what about me? What will you tell me? How will I live without you, she cries. You’ll live, he says, everyone can adapt to anything and manage. Pelin, this is best for you and for me. Look, Seyran got used to marriage. I was even getting used to it. You’ll get used to this too. It’s the best for everyone.
Ferit takes her hands in his. Pelociğim, you deserve better. You deserve much better than me. He gets emotional. I mean it. I don’t want to drag you down with me. You just said you were tired of the uncertainty. You’re right. Even the worst decision is better than uncertainty. This will be best for both of us.
#39 part 5
Pelo objects. No, no. It doesn’t matter what I said. Forget it. Don’t go! I don’t care about the uncertainty. Please don’t leave, Ferit. What are you going to do there? What will I do without you? Please, Pelo, please, he replies, don’t upset yourself anymore. My decision is final. I’m leaving, okay? Pelo gets up. Ferit grabs her hand, stands up and they hug. She cries. Ferit looks sad.
A very quiet Korhan dinner table. Orhan tells Gulgun she should eat. How can I, she replies, I don’t know where our son is. I don’t know if he’s alright or if something has happened. He could have collapsed in the middle of nowhere. Ifakat notes it’s been a rough day, but they must think positive. How could I, Gulgun says, I’m going crazy. What if he’s hurt?
Fuat tells her not to think worst case. With God’s permission, he’ll be fine. It’s like you don’t know Ferit. Gulgun says, we know Ferit. We know him well. That’s why I’m so worried. Asuman says, try to stay calm. They checked every hospital and police station in Istanbul. We’d know if something happened to Ferit, God forbid. Let’s give him time. He’ll come through the door and say, “ne haber? Geri geldim”. Inshallah, Gulgun exhales.
Halis comes to the table. Everyone rises. Any news on Ferit? Orhan says not yet. Halis asks for Abidin. Where is he? Looking for Ferit, Orhan lies. Did you call his friends and his wife, Halis asks. Fuat says he called friends, but he hasn’t contacted them. Halis growls, and did you call his wife? Ifakat? Gulgun? Ifakat says they didn’t think he’d call Seyran under the circumstances.
You never think about anything, Halis scolds, you just sit here and act like nothing happened! He sends a food tray flying. This wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t been so irresponsible! He points his cane at Orhan and Gulgun. What kind of parents are you? You sit and enjoy your meal, instead of searching for Ferit! What’s wrong with all of you? He looks at Fuat, is this how you care for your brother? He hits the table. Surprise me once! Yazıklar olsun! Halis leaves.
Gulgul tries to hold back her tears but can’t. Orhan stands there like a dope. Asuman comes to Gulgun and takes her away from the table. İfakat asks Fuat to call Seyran. She tells Orhan, calm down, I’m here, everything will be okay. He starts to snivel. Nothing will be okay. Nothing will work. Every day it will get worse. He falls into his chair. Ifakat comforts him, while she keeps an eye on the others in the living room. I’m telling you I’m with you. I’ll take care of everything.
Fuat tells Gulgun and Asuman that Seyran’s phone is off. Asuman tells him to call Kazim.
Fuat calls. Kazim shows his phone to Hattuc. See... they’re already calling. Fuat is the sensible one. Then he says, what’s the point of talking? It doesn’t solve anything. He shuts his phone. Let them rot. Hattuc asks, so what will happen now? Kazim answers, Halis Aga will come here and ask forgiveness. He will say, “Kazim Ağa, I’m sorry I could not make a man out of my grandson.” Only then will I send the girl back to him!
#39 part 6
Tövbe tövbe! Hattuc exclaims, are you listening to yourself? Halis Ağa himself will come to you? And who am I, Kazim retorts, I am an ağa, just like he is. Hattuc agrees but adds, but he’s older, older than all of us. He suits you like a father. That’s why I know he won’t come. Then know this, Hala, Kazim replies, if he does not ask forgiveness, he will not get the girl.
Look around you, Hattuc says, where are we? Whose house is this? What if he doesn’t show up? Will you take us back to Antep? The place you were so desperate to leave? Kazim snaps, that’s what I was thinking! We’ll return to Antep! What about the house? What about the land? Where is the property deed? What use are the Korhans to us? What have we gotten from this? Let’s go back to Antep! You wanted to go back, right?
Hattuc answers, you think I wanted to go back like this? We will be disgraced! Talk about disgraced, Kazim says, they thought we were lapdogs. If this is bad for us, it will be worse for them! Nothing is going to happen to them, only to us, she says, Suna already has a bad reputation. And if you take Seyran from her husband… we can’t protect the girls. We can’t go out in public!
Kazim blames it on the girls. One ran away from home and the other couldn’t keep her husband. They got out of control in Istanbul! But I know how to fix it! You’ll see. He heads for the bedroom. Hattuc is alarmed. She tries to stop him. He tells her to stay back, I don’t want to hurt you. Esme appears from the kitchen, gasping.
This is awful. Kazim stands outside the door for a moment to prepare. He slowly opens the door and stands there with a murderous look. He asks, are you comfortable? Have you slept? Did you rest? All that effort… all that money… gone… This room is too good for you. It’s too comfortable. You are not even worth getting my hands dirty. It was a waste.
Kazim enters the room and closes the door. The petrified sisters hold hands. We can hear but don’t see what’s happening in the room. What did I do to deserve a daughter like you? After all I did for you, you can’t even take care of your husband? We hear screams and cries from the room. Kazim continues to berate and beat Seyran, likely Suna, too. And Esme breaks down on the stairs. Hattuc comes to sit with Esme.
Meanwhile at the yali, Mustafa is making the nightly rounds. Ferit is on the grounds ready to get the ladder. He has to hide. Mustafa comes around and shines the flashlight. Will Ferit get caught?
We'll see in the next episode. And we are out!
There is no Lobo episode Friday, April 17, 2026. It is pre-empted by a Casa de Los Famosos special episode.
Thanks, Anastasia. I feel nauseous every time I look at my Lobo DVR recording and see the tail end of Casa de los Famosos. Reality shows are a curse upon us all. I read quite an exposé about them a while ago. Whether they are on Spanish TV or English-speaking TV, they make big bucks for the networks because they don't have to pay writers or actors. These people go on them and make absolute asses of themselves in the hope that they might become a star. Or maybe they were a star that hasn't had work in a loooong time. They work sometimes 18 hours a day and are paid less than minimum wage.
This was a difficult episode to watch, but you did a great summary, Dondi. I am amazed at the patriarchal structure that creates or enables this insanity. Two old guys, although Kazim isn’t as old as Halis, hold their families in stark terror. Kazim is horribly brutal to his daughters. Halis has grown adults shaking in fear! He hit Ferit very hard, so maybe he was more physically violent when younger. This just seems crazy. Then I think some more, and my own father had all of us shaking in terror. So it’s not just a Turkish thing.
I’ve seen a few of the dizis written with psychiatrists. Often they seem to “solve” people’s issues so that there isn’t a totally evil person by the end. I’m ready to dispense with Kazim and Halis is getting on my bad list. I wonder why they get so powerful and if they themselves were treated this way. Kazim and Hattuc have dropped hints of violence. Is there any hope that they can be helped out of this cycle of violence???

Ep #41
April 16
Lobo is pre-empted Friday by La Casa de Los Famosos.
Quick recap of Thursday:
Antonia and Eugenio are still kidnapped. Her phone last pinged from the cemetery . Our friends join Lobo's concern. Two follow Cruz and two follow Azufrero to try to find her.
Miranda posts a video with Alejandro's help. She says that she is alive, she was in a coma for awhile, and Lobo is innocent. Azufrero, Cruz and Graciela argue. Miranda then goes to a press conference where Cruz tries to explain himself, and she tells the gathered press the same things. Miranda may pay for an investigation on how Cruz handled the case, since somehow Lobo's DNA showed up at a crime scene he wasn't at. End episode.
Anastasia: Howdy from the Alamo City. Thank you very much for your recap of last night's episode & here's my personal thoughts.
*Lobo has to realize that Clingy Miranda is using him AGAIN.
*Jackass Big Ed & his EVIL freakshow son including his disgusting heinous sidekicks need to go down ASAP.
*Buji Goldie Locks also needs to go down.
*Slippery Cruz still Slippery in trying to keep his campaign for the Governorship going.
*Crazy Lady Macbeth: Fast Forward.
*Fingers crossed that Lobo & Co., rescue Antonia, Eugenio & Renata. Renata has no clue that Mommy Dearest is nuts.
*Clingy Miranda & that press conference OMG!
Thanks, Anastasia. I definitely go back and forth on Miranda. I hate her for having Antonia and her father kidnapped. I know you thought Eugenio was toast, but something about his appearing last night gave me hope. Also, Gabriel Porras is such a big telenovela star. I've seen him in many roles, hero and anti-hero, and I have my fingers crossed he'll be around to give the bride away.
And then I totally admire her the way she put Cruz in his place and let all of Mexico know that the DNA evidence from the crime scene might have been planted.
Renata is very smart and kids are very intuitive. She senses something "off" about her mother and still wants Antonia in her life.
#38 comments. Sigh. It really bothered me that Seyran said everything was all her fault. Nope! The timing made it sound like she told the truth to get her education, but telling the truth is part of her character. And it would have been hard to look a man as powerful as Halis in the eye and lie.
At least Seyran had Suna to lean upon when Ferit stormed out. And Suna hasn't been indoctrinated enough by Ifakat that she'd withhold any comfort from her sister for the "distance".
I was surprised that Halis couldn't predict that humiliating Ferit with that Ottoman slap in front of not only his family, but also the staff, could result in his running off.
Ferit is a total mess. I am so disappointed he went to Pelin. How soon, if ever, is he going to grow up? And Pelin takes whatever crumbs she can get.
Am I a bad person for SO enjoying Abidin's complete takedown of the sleazy reporter. He's one of the ones like those who chased Princess Diana's car through the tunnel.
That was a very sad final scene of Suna and Seyran looking out of the back of the taxi at the apparent end of their freedom from Kazim.
#38. I forgot to convey my thanks to Babachita for the fine recap of a very disturbing episode.
#39 comments. Thanks so much, dondi. You got a dialog laden episode and some very intense emotions. Really enjoyed your recap.
Does Gulgun know, on some level, about Orhan and Ifakat? Once in a while she loses it about Orhan always siding with Ifakat.
"Here's the cure. Get rid of Kazim" AMEN! The man is a complete sociopath. As far as I can tell he doesn't love anyone. He manages to have a tiny bit of culturally imposed respect for his aunt, but that's all. We probably won't see it, but I'd love to know the back story about why Esme married him and how such a fine woman had to stay with a monster.
Ferit is a petulant brat most of this episode. It seems he expected Seyran to lie for him. And, because of what Kazim spitefully said about her being deprived of food and water to marry him, he now thinks she doesn't care about him at all and jumped at the university education. I'm pretty sure New York isn't happening.
I do like the subtlety of most dizis as opposed to the obvious way characters behave in telenovelas. Pelin doesn't jump at the chance to agree with Ferit about Seyran. She actually defends her.
Suna makes a good point. Ferit was slapped once and went round the bend, but they've lost track of the beatings. I also loved Suna saying that Ferit won't allow their father to keep Seyran from her husband. She sees qualities in him that Seyran can't seem to see.
Kazim thinks Halis will come begging to him! And, speaking of Halis, I was quite surprised that he ordered everyone to let Kazim take the girls. I couldn't tell if it was because he was ill or just agreed that Ferit had burned his bridges with his wife.
