Mañana es Para Siempre, Tuesday, September 29--Ep #155: Free! Lili!

Whoo! What a night last night! Let's see what's in store for us tonight…

Franco can't figure out why Fer is being so cold. He begs her to tell him. She tells him she doesn't want to go on if they don't have a future together. He says he understands, or at least he thinks so. Fer says they need to stick to the important topic at hand. Franco makes the mistake of asking her to at least call him by his name, Franco, and insists that it is his name. Fer is upset that he's asking her to trust in a man who's dedicated his life to destroying her family based on a plan that he (Franco) has, but won't tell her about…is that it? Franco says there's another way of looking at it. That Artemio has been weakened and they can use his weakness to rescue Lili and stop Barbie. But Fer is upset that he won't explain his strategy and that unfortunately she has to keep relying on him. "So, fine, whatever, what do you want me to do?" Fer asks. She needs to hightail it over to Purificación and convince Aurora to go with Barbie, just like Barbie wants. Without saying a word (unless "ah" counts) she grabs her purse from the desk and storms out of the office. Me. Ow. I'd love to be able to say I've never pulled a "well if you don't know why I'm mad, I'm not telling you!" but unfortunately I can't. It's been a while though, in my defense.

Out in the hallway, Daddy NoBucks (since he handed it all over) sees Fer and wants to know if she dropped the charges against Cami. He gets angry when she says she hasn't because now his poor little Cami is going to get transferred to prison. Oh noes! Gonzo experiences some chest pain and grabs the wall for support.

At the jail, a shoeless Cami bitches to the guards who come into his cell that it's about time they got him out of this rat hole, "They've even stolen my tennies!" The guards cuff him and break the news that he's being transferred to prison. He yells and screams that there must be some mistake, he wants to talk to his lawyer, etc. Across the way, some of the other inmates whistle at him and one waves the stolen shoes. That's priceless. Don't drop the soap, Camiiiiii.

Barbie comes home to a drugged out Lili and insults her, as per usual. Lili is not only knocked out, but is tied up and has tape over her mouth. Overkill.

Lucio gets into Jacobo's car and reports no news. They're parked outside the Colegia Buena Esperanza, aka Nun Central, and they watch Fer's so-not-stealthy car drive up. Jacobo wonders who she is and Lucio fills her in. Lucio calls her Damian's wife, but Jacobo clarifies that she's ex. Does this mean she really is or that Jacobo's just pointing out that she dumped Damian's sorry ass? Jacobo tells Lucio not to get distracted, they're supposed to be watching Aurora. How are they supposed to do that if she never leaves the convent?

Fer tells Aurora they've got to talk. She says that Barbie talked to her, said she was sorry for everything, and wants Aurora to go with Barbie the hacienda. Fer can't take her because she has to pick up Santi, and the plan is for the two lovebirds to meet at the hacienda, so Barbie's going to drive Aurora over. Aurora is really happy. Fer makes her excuses and takes off. Aurora says she'll get her suitcase ready. She thanks Fer for the second time, giving her a big hug while Fer looks guilty. Nice to know Aurora's beanie is back on and in working order.

Franco informs Artemio that Fer is on board, so Barbie should be coming over soon.

Esteve walks into the office and asks Franco how things are going. Franco focuses on the positive, that if all goes well Lili will be home today and he, Esteve, and Venus will be on a plane headed back to New York. Esteve asks if Franco is sure, because everything Franco loves is here. Franco says the woman he loves doesn't love him, so therefore Esteve is incorrect. How does Esteve keep from smacking this guy? Franco's cell rings. It's Fer calling from her car to inform him that Aurora is waiting for Barbie. As soon as he thanks her, she pulls the headset off and remembers Gardenia telling her that Franco is Eduardo. She remembers about a second of their magical night together and then cries ugly. And remembers some more and cries ugly some more. And remembers some more and then finally lets a sob escape. And remembers some more and lets a tear fall and hyperventilates. And remembers waking up with "Franco" and cries some more. At least she pulled the car over. Pobre de Fer.

Barbie comes to the convent to make the pickup. Jacobo and Lucio see her. Lucio informs Jacobo that that's La Hiena. Aurora tells the Madre Superiora the plan according to Fer. MS gives her permission to go.

Fer is still crying in her car. She remembers asking Franco many wardrobe changes ago to tell her the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I knew that would come back to haunt him. Fer gets a call on her cell from the Madre Superiora. MS is worried because Barbie is there and Aurora wants to go with her. She wants to know if it's true that Aurora and Santi will be meeting up at the hacienda. Fer lies. And tries not to sob.

Aurora is packing, but Barbie tells her they're going shopping, yay! So, no need to pack. Because Reformed!Evil Barbie has all the time in the world to shop with her little girl. I vote Aurora asks for a pony. Aurora, however, doesn't want to go shopping because they'll be late to meet Santi. Barbie says that's fine, they'll go shopping another day. Barbie starts helping with the folding and the packing. She wants Aurora to call her Mommy, but in the meantime, maybe Aurora can just call her Barbara? Uh, doesn't she mean Rebecca? Already the new Mommy is being clingy, wanting to go down the hall with her baby to say goodbye to the Madre Superiora. Aurora is like "geez, Mom, can't I go say goodbye to a nun without a chaperone?" Barbie tells her to go while she takes Aurora's bag to the car. As she zips up the suitcase, Barbie smiles a big creepy smile.

On the phone, Artemio tells someone "her real name is Rebecca, Rebecca Sanchez. If she tries to leave the country, I want you to stop her. For whatever reasons you want. The bigger the complications for her, the better your pay." Oh, sure, he's got bribed customs agents. How did this guy make all that money? They'd better clear that up before the end or I'll go nuts thinking about it!

The Madre Superiora tells Aurora that she called Fer herself to confirm, so she's less worried, but she's still going to worry until Aurora calls her and tells her that she's with Santi. Aurora thanks her and gives her a hug. Then she hugs the other nun whose name I can never remember. The other nun talks about how she's going to miss Aurora, but is happy for her at the same time.

Santi is anxious. He's yelling at Fer that if within a reasonable amount of time, Barbie hasn't told them where Lili is, he's going to call The One Cop In All of Mexico City With a Name (Cmdte Lozoya) and tell him to put out an APB at all airports and points of exit to keep Barbie from leaving the country.

Barbie and Aurora drive off together. Barbie tells Aurora that Fer is so happy for them both now that Barbie will be around to take care of Aurora and the baby.

Fer has finally gotten to the office and she calls to tell Franco that the Madre Superiora called to let her know that Aurora was leaving with Barbie. He asks her to come to Las Animas because, ahem, for the security of the operation, ahem, it would be better if they're together when Artemio calls to tell them where Lili is. Riiiiight. Fer, in her office, throws up her hands and makes a face, but doesn't say anything to Franco. Yet. Commercials.

Fer ends up saying she's on her way over. She calls Flor and asks her to send Gardenia in.

Barbie pulls up in front of the Mansion O'Evil, telling Aurora it's an "obligatory" stop. She has to hand over some documents. She asks Aurora to wait. I guess this gives Jacobo and Lucio time to make the grab? Aurora rings the doorbell at the gate.

Inside, Artemio is reviewing Barbara's file. He's got the Amanecer newspaper with a headline reading "Pyromaniac Girl Kills Her Parents" and the El Meridian with the headline "Incinerated By Their Daughter" along with a mug shot of Baby Barbie and other assorted papers. He stacks everything up as his phone rings. "Yes? Send her in." He closes the folder. Barbie walks in with her manila envelope of everything Gonzo owns. Artemio says she must have had a reason for taking Lili, since she's not in the habit of helping out unfortunate women. Barbie says she'd least of all help that crazy woman. She hands over the manila envelope with the notarized papers that transfer everything from her name to his. She asks for Rebecca Sanchez's file. He opens it up and flips through it, pulling out one of the newspapers and the mug shot and asking, "Are you thinking of resurrecting the girl who killed her parents?" He grins. "Yeah, I remember, you burned down the house because you didn't want them to get cold, right?" "Whatever, I'm over it." Artie says she's over it thanks to him, for getting her out of the "correccional" (reformatory). He says without him she wouldn't have a life. She'd either have been meat for a prison or meat for a brothel. Dude, she's been sleeping with Gonzo for 15 years and you're going with "hey, you would have been a prostitute if not for me?" The gall of this man. He wonders what exactly she thinks he owes her. All she wants is her file back. He says he understands she has her own plans now. She says he's always so suspicious. "Give me the file and I'll give you back Liliana Elizalde." Wow. He's good. Didn't even have to ask. He's a pro, this guy. He only barely gloats.

Fer tells Gardenia that she isn't sure how long she'll be out of the office, but she begs her not to tell anyone else the truth about Eduardo. You mean other than Jacinto, Margarita, Esteve, Silvestre, Flor, Padre Bosco…am I leaving anyone out? Gardenia agrees and swears to Chuchito. She asks Fer if she's going to marry Eddie. "Don't ask me that question again, Gardenia!" says Fer before she leaves the office for the second time today. Poor Artie, he's gone to all this trouble, and really the company would have run itself into the ground without his interference.

Artemio tells Barbie that now, with Eduardo Juarez around he doesn't need Rebeca. "I warned you and you ignored my warning. Soledad Cruz's son is alive. Everything we did was a lost cause." Barbie asks where he is, but Artie tells her if he knew, she's the last person he would tell. "All the years I invested in you were worthless." Ouch. "At last, we'll be done with this. Tell me where Liliana Elizalde is and when the person I send to get her has her in front of them, THEN you'll get your papers back." Barbie says Lili is at the Elizalde's country house.

Franco thanks Fer for coming. "You've got nothing to thank me for, FRANCO. After all, she's my sister, not yours." Franco's phone rings. We hear Artemio tell Franco "When you trust me, call me back." Franco agrees, hangs up and tells Fer. "We're such idiots. Barbie had Lili stashed at the country house. You know, where we used to go to be alone together?" Only with fewer words. Fer is impactada.

Aurora rubs her belly and tells it they'll be with its daddy soon. It will have a family and she's grateful to God that her Mommy is mending her evil ways, all thanks to the bump.

Barbie paces and gripes that she has to wait. Artie comes in, followed by Hilda with a bucket of champagne and two glasses. Artemio offers Barbie a glass to toast with. He chuckles that she can trust it, he didn't put any narcotics in it. Barbie looks at the glass, but checks her watch. Artie does drink some and then says he gets the impression Barbie's in a hurry. Her excuse is that Gonzo is waiting for her to have dinner with him. Artemio points out it's not the first time she's stood the old geezer up.

Fer and Franco have arrived at the country house, where Fer doubts that Lili is really there. She thinks its another of Barbie's lies. Franco says that Artie is waiting for a call to find out whether Barbie was telling the truth. They find the glass of milk with the knock out drops. Franco tastes it (idiot!) and says it's fresh. The head for the bedrooms and find Lili. Drugged, mouth taped, and tied hand and foot. Fer tries to wake her up and gets a little frantic. Franco says they'll get her out of there and take her to the hacienda, but Fer wants a doctor to look at her. Franco carries her out. Lili, that is.

Gonzo whines on the phone to Barbie that the house is empty and there's no one to eat dinner with him. He says he wants to wait for her. Artemio notices Barbie is hesitating and offers to leave the room so she can speak privately. Barbie says, and I kid you not, "I heard you, but don't count on me. And better you get used to eating alone." She hangs up. Gonzo stares at the phone wondering what just happened. Tomasa asks him if she should serve dinner or wait. Gonzo throws a glass of water at the table, breaking it, and announces that no one in this house is having dinner tonight. So, uh, he's sending himself to his room with no dinner?

In Franco's car, Fer holds a still sleeping Lili in the back seat. Franco calls Esteve to tell him they're on their way. He wants Jacinto to wait for them at the door to carry Lili in (uh, how many days ago did he have broken ribs?) because he has to leave right away. He asks if Steve called a doctor already, which he has. Franco tells Fer the doctor is on the way. He tries to talk to her again about what's wrong. She says she'll tell him when it's time. Franco starts to call Artemio, but Fer tells him to wait. She reminds him that once he makes that call, Barbie gets her papers and takes off with Aurora, and then what? Franco says he thinks the best thing to do is play it clean. Fer doubts Artemio is playing clean, even though they now have Lili. "What's to say that this wasn't a plot between him and Barbie?" Franco says he doubts it, because Artie wants to get his daughter back.

Barbie has some champagne and cools her heels in Artie's office. Now it's Artie's cell phone ringing. Franco tells him that they have Lili, but it appears she's been drugged. He asks what assurances they have that Barbie isn't going to skip the country. Having Barbie right in front of him, Artie obviously can't answer, so he just says "thanks for the information," and hangs up. He tells Barbie that Liliana is safe. Barbie scoffs at the idea of Lili being safe in Artie's hands. "That's a huge contradiction." Artemio goes to the safe and pulls out Rebecca's file. He takes the documents out of the leather folder and puts them in a blue paper folder. Barbie grabs it and flips through it quickly. She confirms that everything is in order and hopes they never see each other's faces again. Artemio smirks, which freaks Barbie out. As she walks out of his office, he starts chuckling. Barbie cannot walk fast enough to get out of there!

Jacinto, Venus, Martina, Esteve, and Fer all walk Lili into the house, Jacinto carrying. Franco drives away.

Barbie leaves the compound with a big smile on her face. Until she sees that her SUV is empty. Ha, ha, hahahahaha! She anxiously approaches, calling for Aurora, "daughter!" She sees Aurora's purse, but tosses it back in the SUV as she rings Artie's doorbell again and starts banging on the gate.

And the doctor on call is, of course, Martina's Dr. Carlos, who assures Fer that Lili is fine, she just needs some time for the drugs to get out of her system. He tells her that he recommends they give her lots of water and he'll prescribe a diuretic so that she pees out all the drugs faster.

Artie tells Borja (previously the grave digging guy) via phone that he'll give him more specific instructions later. He sits drinking something on the rocks as Evil Barbie in full-on Protective Mama role storms in, clocks Artie on the back of the head with an elbow, then grabs his tie and chokes him with it, yelling "What have you done with her? Where is my daughter? I want my daughter!" Artie can't breathe to answer her. "You damned bastard! What did you do to Aurora?" Artie sucks in enough breath to say he doesn't know, but Barbie doesn't believe him. "You already did whatever you wanted to with me. You stole my youth you subjected me to everything you wanted. I turned into your slave. In all these interminable years, I've done nothing more than obey you so that you could quench your thirst for vengeance. I turned into the creation of your own evil. But understand that it's over. It ended when I found out you'd lied to me, swearing that my newborn daughter had died. You had my daughter. You were capable of hiding her from me. I hate you! I hate you! Know, know that I found her and I won't let you hurt her. I won't let you do to Aurora and my grandchild what you did to me, what you did with me. Give her back to me now! Give her back to me because with the same hate you fostered in me, I swear I'll make you pay for my entire disgrace." She drags him backwards off the chair by his tie as Franco comes running in. Barbie tells him not even to try it. "One step and this bastard dies! This is between me and Artemio, don't get involved. I want my daughter! I want my daughter!" Franco screams at her to stop or she'll never find out where her daughter is. He repeats that if Artemio dies, she'll never find out where Aurora is. She lets go of the tie and Artemio lies on the floor, gasping. Franco yells at her to get out of there and he'll try to find out where Aurora is. Barbie listens to him and leaves. Franco helps Artemio back into his chair and loosens the tie. Artemio gasps and coughs. Franco tells him to be calm, he's fine now.

Lili wakes up in Franco's bed at Las Animas. Her vision is fuzzy as she sees Fernanda. She starts to freak out, but Fer talks her down. Martina cries as she takes Lili's hand and says hello. Lili's still pretty blissed out from the drugs and kind of half dozes as everyone fawns over her. Including Venus, who comes in with a tray of juices for all the gals (I'll take some vodka in mine, if you don’t mind!). Lili is happy to see her too and exclaims (albeit weakly) "Venus!" Fer realizes what Lili just said and turns to look at Venus. Fer asks Lili why she called Lovely "Venus."

Artemio chokes out that Rebeca came in like a wild animal and accused him of taking Aurora. Franco looks at him suspiciously. Artemio explains that Barbie left Aurora waiting outside in the car. He says Barbie must have thought she wouldn't be in there for long. Isn't that what they all say. Don’t leave your kids in the car, people! Franco asks if Artemio's sure that he had nothing to do with Aurora's disappearance. "Oh, yeah, that's right! Between the champagne and the choking, I forgot that I'd given secret orders to my henchpeople to snatch the girl once Barbie was inside. My bad!" No, of course Artemio denies it. Franco doesn't know if he should believe him, but Artie says he has no reason to lie.

Lili and Fer continue their bizarre conversation (I mean, they haven't seen each other in several wardrobe changes, can't they talk about something besides Venus/Lovely? What's Lovely got to do with it?). "Because that's her name." "But when did you meet her?" "I don't know, I don't remember." Martina hurriedly offers Lili some orange juice. Lili wonders who lives in this house. Without answering her, Fer tells Lili she's in a secure location. Lili asks where Evil Barbie is. Fer says Evil Barbie will never hurt Lili again. Martina asks if Lili's hungry, but Lili is only sleepy. Fer says she'll stay with Lili while she sleeps. Venus and Martina excuse themselves. Fer looks curiously after them. Fer repeats to Lili that they're together and nothing bad is going to happen. She finally says that they're in the house of some friends. Lili cries about seeing her daddy. She doesn't want to go to the hacienda because Evil Barbie is there. Fer hugs her and reassures her. Ciro appears and nods at Lili. She calms down and lies back down. Fer says she'll never be away from Lili again and thanks the Virgen as Lili goes back to sleep.

Evil Barbie accosts the Madre Superiora, screaming that she just left Aurora in the car for a second! The Madre Superiora is surprised to hear that Aurora is gone. Barbie is convinced that MS knows where Aurora is. She begs MS to tell her and says she'll do anything. MS is understandably confused. Barbie tells her not to be cruel and tell her everything she knows. MS says she's sorry, but since Aurora left with Barbie, MS hasn't know where Aurora is. Barbie weeps.

Aurora is locked in someplace. She's banging on the door asking to be let out while outside her little room, Lucio and Jacobo play cards. Jacobo says they're waiting for instructions from Damian (not to Aurora, just to Lucio and purely for our benefit).

Barbie drives down the road, distraught, and puts on her headset. She calls Franco and tells him she needs him. She says she needs to talk to him urgently in her office. He says he'll be there in half an hour. Artemio says he supposes Franco has to leave, but he wants Franco to live up to his half of the deal now. Franco says he's a man of his word. Artie tells him to sit down and tell him where Eduardo is. "Eduardo Juarez is dead, and he has to stay dead!" Artie is confused. Franco says there's no trick. Eduardo is dead. He had to die so that Franco Santoro could be born. Artie huffs and puffs. Dun dun dun!

It feels a little light on the vocab, so let me add some:

weakness = debilidad
shopping = ir de compras (literally, "go buying")
unfortunate women = mujeres desafortunadas
brothel = prostibulo (could have also been translated as "house of prostitution," etc.)
you're in a hurry = tienes prisa
stand the old geezer up = dejar plantado al viejo
youth = juvetud
give her back to me = devuelvamela

BRILLIANT, Kat!! You got a humdinger to recap this time and you aced it.

Lucero was great in this episode, running the gamut of emotions from wicked triumph to murderous rage to unhinged fear she'd lost her hija. Kinda enjoyed her choking AB, about time someone got some licks in on this guy!

I sure hope that grinning fool Lucio gets something a lot worse than his light jail sentence for the necklace caper. It's funny how even the scummy Jacobo looks at him like something he just scraped off the bottom of his shoe.

Loved Daddy Nobucks!

Wow Kat you are fast with your recap...I just finished watching the episode! You did an excellent job as usual, thank you!
Now that everything is moving so quickly they are speaking faster and the CC's are rolling faster, but my Spanish brain is still just as slow as before...so I miss a lot.

I loved your comment about "Daddy NoBucks" too funny! I thought he was going to pass out when he grabbed his chest, but no such luck. His tantrum later at dinner was great. He does not have a clue what is going on around him!

Poor Lili, when she awoke surrounded by Fer,Martina & Venus it reminded me so much of the end of the Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy awakes to find Auntie Em,Prof.Marvel and the rest there by her side. Looking around not knowing if it was a dream.

Fr/Ed or is it now Ed/Fr, should have let Barbie kill Artemio. That would have killed 2 birds..etc
He wouldn't have to show Ed to Artemio and Barbie would be arrested for murder. Perfecto !
Oh well, I really wonder how he got into Harvard with his slow/low IQ at times.

Thanks so much 5 FT. I am grateful that you posted so fast. I wanted to watch this episode twice but my satellite is acting up again so came here to find the episode number to watch You Tube, but found this masterful recap you shot out like a girl who knows how to use an Uzi. Great job. I have been on the edge of my seat for the last several episodes. This TN does not disappoint. There has been so little dead space and now we are having revelations at such high velocity that I have to remember to breath now and then.

Thank you Kat for such a fabulous recap! I laughed out loud at so many of your great lines (Gonzo sending himself to bed without dinner...)

Lucero was great in this episode. She reminded me of a mama grizzly (take my word for it - don't poke the bear Artemio). And don't you feel such... compassion... for poor little Caaami going to prison without shoes....

Could anyone really blame her? Any mother would do that if she really felt her child was threatened. Yes, even Babs. all those years of losing her daughter, finding her briefly then losing her again right by Artemio Bravo's residence would drive her nuts and over the edge. It is clearly evident that Lucio and Jacobo were tailing Babs and Aurora.

It really would not make sense for Artemio to take Aurora just like that. anoterh thing is he never saw her, just found out she was alive again.

Who knows maybe it is an unholy tripartite alliance between Franco, Babs and Artemio against Damian, Jacobo and Lucio. A tag team match if you will. Each not trusting the other but bound by threats of mutual destruction should one backstab another.

Liliana on the other hand is hopefully on the road to recovery. Liberate Lili no more. She has been liberated. It is better to watch a bungled earlier rescue attempt at Lili than it was to see the Llorona this time last year. ;)

So now Artemio realizes that Eduardo was dead so that Franco Santoro could be born and that Eduardo is indeed Franco, he may be well on his way to a cardiac arrest. He was already weakened by a chiking fit with Babs who by the way could have really killed him in 5 seconds if she choked him properly. This is getting good. Some loose ends are beginning to be tied up. 6 more hours left.

OT: To those who care, Fels has been released on dvd in the us early Sept. with English subtitles. This is one dvd that is better in it's chopped up version than the full version. The only bad thing is you don't get to see Dra. Hotlips there.

Another interesting thing is Betty La fea is also ending and has gone to half an hour episodes. Who woulda thought they had the same number of episodes as MEPS and started at the same time?

Good recap 5FT.Latina.

Ibarramedia

Thanks, 5ft~~~~ YIKES....Lucero went full throttle and opened a big can of crazy on that poor , tiny mother superior and Art.

Thanks Mrs. 5 ft...You have an incredible command of both English and Spanish. I hope you work in a university setting somewhere, you'd be the school favorite!!

When did Artemio learn that Aurora was still alive? I thought that the kidnapping was only the work of Damian and Lucio, who hate Babs. Oh well...

Novelera, yes, that Jacobo look was priceless!

Elle, yes, Ed/Fr saved AB's life and told Babs to vayase as well. We could have had the two baddest eggs out of the program in one afternoon, what the??

Wow, these MEPS gals are small, but they can really choke or stab big guys with one hand only! I need to work out more.

Fernanda's car scene was incredible. She was the last to know the most important information in the entire program, Eduard is alive. He never TRUSTED or brought her into his inner circle. That would be hard,to me maybe unforgivable...just my
thoughts!

I cracked up over "Daddy Nobucks." The poor fool. I do hope Bravo has the same heart condition as Gonzo.

Poor Lili. When Bravo got her, I thought that was the end of forced sedation for her, but then Babs had to give her some more. You know Lili's never going to voluntarily take a sleeping pill for the rest of her life!

FELS on DVD. If it's cheap, it might be worth having just for the background music. I never did find a CD with just the instrumental/incidental music. I don't want the songs the actors sang, and I already have the Vicente Fernandez CD, but I'd really like to have "The Here Comes Feo Brass," "Juan's Kneadin' the Bread," and "General Grandpa's March" (my nicknames for them!), etc.

Another thought...Carlos you were so right on yesterday when you commented on how Fernanda must have felt on learning that unknowingly she had slept with Eduardo, think he was Franco. I think you used the words creepy and queasy. Silvia has played these two words so perfectly, she has looked almost sick, as if she would become truly sick to her stomach any moment. Her anguish and disappointment has been so real...She really deserves a Latin Emmy for her performance in this role...my two cents.

Great recap as always Kat, and thanks for throwing in some extra vocabulary. We viewers are all at different levels in our Spanish studies, and hopefully learning more is part of this pastime.

Univision was kaput for me last night until aboutr 9:30 and was trying to cobble together my recap from youtube, but I did see the end of this episode and actually felt sorry for Barbie losing her child Aurora so quickly. Enjoyed the choking scene, although she talked on a little too long for it to be at all realistic. But hey, who cares?
Thanks, as always, for a most enjoyable read.

If I were Santi, I'd be really ticked that Aurora (and child) were being sacrificed to MAYBE free Lili. No one really had a plan for how to get Aurora from Barbie once Barbie had Aurora (and child) in her evil hands.

Mrs. 5ft, an excellent and exciting recap!!!

One thing I have to say, as daffy as Gonzo was and as ruthless as Artemio was, the actor (I don't remember his name) did an excellent job handling the two roles.

When Fer told Gardenia not to mention Franco's real identity, Gardenia asked if she was going to marry Eduardo, Fer didn't answer and stormed out. With the look on Gardenia's face, I'm wondering if she thought she might give Franco another shot??? I wouldn't put it past her...

No time to read or join in today, but I wanted to leave you with this interview with Carla Estrada about Sortilegio

http://www2.esmas.com/entretenimiento/telenovelas/sortilegio/noticias/101147/carla-estrada-satisfecha-con-sortilegio

Muchisimas Gracias 5ft., Girrrrrl, I haven't ready many of your recaps cause I had my own novela going on for several weeks, you are a nut!!! I love you!!

"Oh, sure, he's got bribed customs agents. How did this guy make all that money? They'd better clear that up before the end or I'll go nuts thinking about it!" You're right about that, what the hell all those wasted years, torturing his own daughter, he's obviously rollin' in it. Oh well, it's like wondering where the big red satin bed came from. . .

"Dude, she's been sleeping with Gonzo for 15 years and you're going with "hey, you would have been a prostitute if not for me?"HAHHAHHAHHAH - Damn straight!

"All she wants is her file back." Heeey, f-i-l-e, l-i-f-e, the same letters!! oooooo, that's scary!!

"She asks Fer if she's going to marry Eddie." Carlos, you are right, you gotta love this girl's determination. She luuuuvs her some Eduardo. Personally, I don't like somebody hanging around my dish asking, "...you gonna eat that?"

"You've got nothing to thank me for, FRANCO." and "Franco tastes it (idiot!) and says it's fresh." You could file both of these under IDIOT!!!!

"Don't leave your kids in the car!" Heeeeheheeehee

Re what's the dif Venus vs. Lovely, poor Fer has been lied to by EVERYBODY, she must be feeling like she's in the frickin' twilight zone, "Who the hell else is not who they say they are in this freaked out parallel universe!!!"

Love the Artie beat down when my girl went upside Arties head, damn Barbie!!

Finally, YAAAAAAY, Lilli's free! I just feel afraid she's gonna go for a walk or Lucio, Jacobo or even Damian will come get her again! Exciting night. Thank you, luuuuv your sense of humor and the thoroughness with which you recap the dialogue. Think I'll go back and re-listen now that I really know all the subtlties of what they were saying. Late for work!!

Khalilah

Thanks for the recap Kat. They are speaking so fast now my poor brain isn't able to keep up sometimes.

I think any mother would have acted like Barbie. We get crazy when our children are threatened. I thought for sure AB would have passed out already.

I feel so bad for Fer. She just looks confused at this point and I don't blame her for being upset. Everyone and their dog knew about Eduardo but not her. She is a terrific actress and I hope we get to see her in some more TNs.

Aurora, look for a window. Pounding on the door doesn't work.

Cami will be so popular in prison. How funny they stole his shoes!

Ayyy, Kat, thank you for the great recap and wonderful snark. You had me with Daddy NoBucks.

Bonzo just doesn’t get it, does he? The guy is unbelievable in his relentless desire to free his criminal son Camilo. The “I don’t want to eat dinner alone” scene was just so pathetic, too. Que nos muera, Bonzo con el cara de tonto.

Why is Lili’s mouth taped up? I thought Babs said nobody would hear her scream, that far out in the sticks. That poor girl, how many times she has been tied up? I hope she has a gallon-size bladder.

I wonder if Artemio made back-up Xerox copies of Barbies dossier. Just in case.

I loved Babs going postal on Artemio. Mama bear, indeed. And why couldn't FrEd have just said, "Oops, my bad, didn't mean to interrupt" and LEAVE so she could finish the job!

Speaking of bladder capacity, while Reformed!Evil Barbie (loved that one, Kat) is talking with Arte, all I could think of was Aurora out there waiting in the SUV. Every woman who has been preggers knows how often one has to pee.

Looks like we've got the Kidnapped! version of musical chairs. Fruitbasket turnover.

P.S. That room where Aurora is being held looks a lot like the one Jairo put Gardenia in, several wardrobe changes ago.

Kat, this was great. Very, very funny. Poor Nanda. Now it's Lovely who is not who she says she is. Poor Gonzo, looks like the big one is just about ready to pounce on him. I'm hoping he gets to have that moment of clarity before he shuffles out. Poor Artie, his chicken has come home to roost.

Kalilah,"Are you going to eat that?" cracked me up. I suspect our DDenia may still be clinging to a fsding glimmer of hope.

Carlos

Another marvellous recap, Kat. Thanks for all the details, the snark, and the vocab. Actually, the Spanish captions on my set seemed almost 100% accurate: they kept showing gibberish like nH($JdhE%%@WQ, and that's exactly what I heard the characters saying :-). Your recap was a lifeline para mí.

I loved so many of your remarks, most of which other people have already noted. But among those not yet mentioned was "I vote Aurora asks for a pony." Plus your pointing out that Fer's request that Gardenia not tell anyone else about Eduardo meant "other than Jacinto, Margarita, Esteve, Silvestre, Flor, Padre Bosco…"

I really expected/feared that Barb would kill Artemio, then leave before FrEd arrived, and that FrEd would be arrested for the murder. Fortunately, with so few episodes to go, that was apparently too much of a plot wrinkle.

I also was afraid that Gonzo was going to have the Big One when he clutched his chest after Fer refused to retract the charge against Camillo, and that Fer would be filled with guilt. Again, perhaps we were saved by the impending bell.

I somehow missed FrEd's asking Jacinto to carry Lili inside, but this is the second time that Jacinto's broken ribs have miraculously mended. The first was when he wrestled with Gardenia to prevent her from going inside the church during the busted boda. That couldn't have been more than a few days after his beating, could it?

I'm still confused about Eduardo's immense importance to Artemio. Does anyone understand this? What secret could Soledad have been thought to have told FrEd that would inspire such fear in Artemio? I hope this is one of los loose ends to be tied up before the End.

Thank you Kat for the delightful recap. I was away from home last night and missed the entire episode and had to rely on YouTube to watch it. I loved all your mocking commentary also.

"Don't drop the soap, Camiiiiii." -- exactly what I was thinking when he was dragged kicking and screaming out of his little chicken coop.

So, Gardenia finally found an opportunity to spill the beans to Fernanda -- and Fernanda can't handle it very well. With this little meeting behind closed doors of the wonder twins, I actually lost sympathy for both of them.

Aurora's beanie must be on way to tight in order to be able to agree to go anywhere with Barbie.

Whoa! That's scary! -- Santi is thinking about calling the cops to stop Barbie from taking Aurora; that's exactly what Don Artemio is actually calling someone to do just that.

"hey, you would have been a prostitute if not for me?" -- I couldn't believe Don Artie said that. To him, her only options were prostitution in the brothel, life in prison or becoming his slave in business and pleasure. Geesh!

Oh, Kat, and don't forget to add Martina to the list. I think at some point at the clinica, Fr/Ed filled Martina in on his past and his life also.

Franco tastes the tainted milk -- WHY on earth would he stick his tongue in a glass when he knows Barbie had been there? GEESH!

"Artie huffs and puffs" -- that's a excellent description of him, Kat. If this was a cartoon, Artie's face would look like a raging bull with smoke billowing out of his ears.

Doris -- I think you're right - those walls do look a little familiar - recycling at its best.

Jody :)

If that's the case then she needs to get her butt out the window. Dumb and Dumber are so stupid it probably isn't even locked.

Doris, Jody,

I thought the room looked familiar as well. Wouldn't that mean she is being held at Soledad's old house? Wasn't that where Gardenia was kidnapped to?

TwiddleBug TC

I'm glad that Camilo gets to suffer without his shoes, but I have to wonder how they stole that from him. They are all held in individual cells in the jail. the drunk was the only other guy in Camilo's cell and he is gone. The guy who stole Camil's shoes is across the other cell.

Gonzalo wants his son out of jail guilty or not. Most parents are that way when it comes to their kids believe it or not. They would do anything to get them out of there. some even insist on their innocence despite overwhelming evidence.

I think Artemio Bravo has made a big assumption regarding Eduardo knowing anything. When in reality he does not. Soledad had been dropping off a few letters in the old manicomio when she was visiting Liliana. Some of those letters contained vital information. Chocolates were also hid in the floorboard.

Very Early on when Liliana overheard the phone conversation between Babs and Artemio Bravo, she heard Babs speak his name and thus told Soledad in secrecy about this. Soledad even confronted Babs about this which led to her eventual banishment from the Elizalde hacienda.

Years later when Eduardo returned from the States and he was visiting with a then dying Soledad, she said that Liliana knows the secret before expiring.

Early on we were wondering Who Artemio Bravo was and what role he played in the Elizalde family. we also wondered about what destructive power or information he had over their heads. Now after all is said and done, the secret was just his identity. Just the name Artemio Bravo and that he ordered Montserrat killed.

Artemio by ordering Babs to get rid of Eduardo was just tryuing to eliminate anyone remotely associated to Soledad because of
1) Soledad Knows who Artemio Bravo was.
2) Artmio Bravo was the name of the man who ordered Liliana's mother killed which she overheard in the phone conversation and she had asked Soledad who that was.

Ibarramedia

Babs seeing Eduardo and Fernanda kissing was a very convenient excuse for her to ship him out.
That sure provided a lot of suspence in the beginning. Now that we know the contents of the Diary, I don't know how it really could threaten Artemio. If anything it may help him more. But his is a mind twisted of hate and fury that he is beyond normal reasoning.

All in all it is a sad story for everyone. All because of Don Geronimo, Anibal's doppelganger of a grandfather who I quickly pointed out (his pictures and Altgrcia's are in the sala and fireplace mantle) very early on but was dismissed by the collective here.

I cannot really feel sorry for Artemio because he was able to make himself very wealthy and powerful despite being orphaned at a very young age. The brainwashing he did to Babs to make her his sex slave, servant, killing machine and then stealing her baby away and saying she was dead was inexcusable.

Babs only joy in her miserable life was Aurora. With the knowledge that Aurora was dead, life meant nothing to her so she was resigned to her fate top do Artemio's bidding. With the realization that Aurora was alive and well gave new meaning to Bab's life. All this pent up anger was evident in her dialogue to Artemio while she was trying to kill him.
In a way that was a sort of catharsis for Babs as she acknowledged that her life was wrecked by him. Almost a kind of deprogramming in the process transferring all the hate to Artemio and rightfully so. Unfortunately for both of them, she was not aware that Lucio and Jacobo kidnapped Aurora. They were the farthest from either one's mind.

If Artemio was in much better shape, he would have had the power to overcome 5'7" 125 pound Babs' choke hold. It was just lucky for him that Eduardo actully saved his life. He owes him now.

I think Babs, Fernanda and Aurora were horrified that the baby Aurora is carrying is a product of incest. But is somewhat accepted because it was before the fact that they realized they were related. It is already done.

Julie the FELS cd has the instrumental incidental songs except for Gabriela's theme with the violins. I wanted to listen to that. The incidentals are named after the characters like Juan,Fernando and Oscar. it's funny because I only listen to the incidental music.

Ibarramedia

Muchas Gracias Kat. Su "recap" es maravillosa (como siempre). With those words I'll quit while I'm ahead:-) I'm going to rewatch the episode now that you have clarified and given meaning to some things that I didn't quite understand. I'm still not sure why Fer doesn't want Franco to know that she had to find out his identity through someone else. I can hardly wait to see how Fr/Ed is going to manipulate & twist the name change fiasco in his favor. His tale of why he had to die will be so convincing until Fer will see it as the ultimate romantic act. In other words Eddie died for the woman he loved therefore he can never love another. The new guy Franco Santoro, can though.

Who knows Eddie's identity?: Jacinto, Margarita, Esteve, Silvertre, Flor, Padre Bosco (Martina). Don't forget Liliana. I can't wait until the two of them meet face to face in front of Fer. You know she's going to call his name and then Fer will remember how Lili tried to tell her all along.

Franco smelled then tasted the milk to see if it was fresh. Fresh milk means that Liliana is there or was there recently.

So I take it that both Anibal and Erika are in argentina for different reasons. Anibal on buisiness and Erika to start a new life?

I wonder if Camilo will meet Damien in prison. What could they actually plot behind bars? Will Damian let him in on his plans with Jacobo and Lucio? All 4 of them will be together in the big house soon.

Thanks Ms. 5Ft for the great recap and the terrific zingers! I also had LOL moments at Khalilah's recap of your recap!

I want to pick up on Sandy in TN's comment about Fer's anguish in the car. My thoughts are as follows.

Fer only loved two in her lifetime ... one boy - Eduardo, and one man - Franco.

In both cases, she "gave" her "FIRST" to them ... first kiss to Eddie, first sex to Franco.

In both cases, she also shared her heart ... she thought that there were no secrets.

Now, she finds out that not one, but the "TWO men" that she loved most in the world ... (note that she continued to love Eduardo into adulthood ... so in a sense, she loved her version of an adult Eddie) betrayed her.

BOTH of the men betrayed her. Both ... the ones that she thought would be her "all in all" betrayed her ... at the same time, in the same moment, embodied in the same person.

I think that yesterday's recap called Fr/Ed and Fer "aging virgins." My thought is that if she held out for that long, and mind you, in her heart she was still "holding out" for Eduardo in some way even when she was married to Damian, then her whole being was tied up in that one night as she was "de-flowered" with the red sheets and newly flowered water.

The holding out and waiting thing can be major!! And Fer is in her late 20's right? It's major.

I know that Artemeo was behind all of La Hiena's dastardly deeds, but I don't feel the same distaste towards him the way I do for La Hiena. She was so abusive and mean to everybody, especially Lilly. I know she was working under his orders and he created the monster she is and he’s ultimately responsible for all the crimes committed but that’s just how I feel. Does anybody else feel that way?

She didn't know love growing up so she only knows is meanness and what AB has programmed in her. Her parents were losers, her dad was a total scumbag, and I don't think AB was much better. It doesn't excuse her actions but it gives us more of an understanding as to why she is the way she is.

I loved Fer's "Bitch Please" look she gave to Gardenia after DDenia asked her if she was going to marry Eduardo. LOL

All Ed/Fr or Fred has to say to Fernanda to justify the creation of Franco Santoro was:

When I returned to Mexico, I was on my way to Hacienda Elizalde with flowers for you. You inadvertently splashed mud on me and felt sorry for me so you gave me a ride. We did no recognize each other then But I was going to see you. When you told me you were about to get married to Damian Gallardo, My world was crushed. you blew the wind out of my sails. I was hurt so much and I did not recognize you until you stated you name in the cellphone while speaking to someone and you never recognized me. Days later when you asked me about the girl I was about to marry, I told you she was marrying another man. That was you Fernanda.

If not for that, then I would never have assumed the guise of Franco Santoro and instead operated as Eduardo Cruz. i devoted all my resoruces to help your sister Liliana and bnailed out your family's Milk company. Now that is all over I can tell you that I love you more than anything else in the world. I have forsaken all women even Gardenia to be with you.

Maybe a little sappy for you but that explanation would take care of all the backpedalling FrEd will do.

Ibarramedia

I'm going to hate to see this novela come to an end. I just love it. Can you tell me the final day. I want to be sure to see it. I hope it's not this friday.

I agree with you Ibarramedia. That would be straight and to the point.

The show ends Monday. I think it is 3 hours long.

The series end on Monday at 8pm to 11pm. i'll be watching both the edning and also Monday Night Footnball between the Vikings and the Packers. Multitasking...

Ibarramedia

Ibarramedia, I like your version of how the story should go.

I must say though, that I still think that Fr/Ed was "wrong" for sleeping with Fer, knowing that he was lying to her. His own thoughts about leaving, never seeing her again, going to the U.S., etc. and using those as an excuse to "get it while he had a chance" suddenly seem quite selfish.

I'm rooting for him to "win" in the end, but I thought that it (going to bed with her) was dishonorable. This is the case, in my book, even if/when he uses all of Ibarramedia's words to "help" in his justification of the deception.

-Netgirl

Next Monday, Oct. 5th is the final episode, either two or three hours. (It comes on 7 pm Central time, I think...)

Martina was one of the first people to know FrEd's real identity, because of her working with Lili.

Great recap 5ft Latina. You did an incredible job, especially with the scene where Babs was choking Artemio. I was getting chills again.

By the way, brothel can also be "burdel" wich is a fancier way to say "prostíbulo" as "prostíbulo" is used mostly for the places where the cheaper prostitutes are. Wich just gives Artemio's words more sting.

I think Babs had no other way than being who she was. She became this monster because she was programmed by Artemio. It was HIM who gave her no choice by abusing her both sexually and psycologically. Had she stayed in the reformatory she would probably had have to endure a terrible life, with scars of her already abusive past. But by the way she was shown to love her child it was obvious to me that she still had feelings and maybe she would have turned out different under other circumstances. Maybe her life would have been worse and she would have turned out worse, or maybe her life wouldn't have been as bad and she would have turned out better. We will never know, because he took that glimmer of hope away from her, in the same way he took her choices, her body, her youth and her daughter.

So while Babs is still accountable for her crimes, Artemio should be held accountable for those too.

Jarocha

Ibarramedia, thanks for the info about the FELS CD. I thought it was just the actors singing.

Gracias Sra. 5ft

Wasn't that a phone toss by Gonzo & it hit the water glass?

Dios mio, I hope that's the end of Lili's suffering.

If someone was choking you & in the case of Babs, at least grab a handful of hair, I'm sure she would have let go.

It's always so helpful to bang on the door & yell "let me out" to someone that just kidnapped you. And the lecher Lucio has been locked up, so I'm sure he's eying Aurora.

I guess Camilo has learned the 1st rule of surviving in la cárcel, the shoes go under the bedposts.

Men will never understand women. If you're too dumb to know why I'm mad, I'm sure as mierda not going to tell you idioto.

BTW, Jacinto fell out of a tree trying to rescue a kitten, a very small tree. He wasn't beaten up.

Kat, thank you again for a wonderful recap.

I thought Fernanda found out about Venus' true identity when she (Venus) was trying to kill Cami.

rsk

Thanks for the recap Kat. It was a great episode and you matched it perfectly. Your snark was fun and I completely agreed with your disgusted at Bravo's words to Barb.

Though Bravo did create Barb or form her into a monster, I too cringed at her treatment of Lil (Anon 12:31pm). For me it went beyond her other victims b/c Lil's violation started as a child/teen. All of the other people Barb/Bravo messed over were adults (and even Eduardo was sent away). Lil had her life taken from her.

Yeah, Lil is free!!!!

I think the fact we saw Barb perform these deeds while Bravo never had to get his hands messy can influence how you feel. Seeing someone do the deed or deeds is different than the one who orders the action to be taken though both are guilt.

Netgirl, I liked your analysis of why Fer felt sick.

In the flashback of little Rebeca setting fire to her parents house, the child actor portrayed Babs evilness perfectly, even though she had a drunk for a mom & a pervert for a father. I wish her name was in the credits.

MEPS starts at 8:00 EST Monday & lasts for 3 horas.

Cristina is on Tuesday after Sortilegio & I'm sure will have some cast members on the show.

Connie (12:26) you said "Her parents were losers, her dad was a total scumbag, she only knows meanness and what AB has programmed in her. Her parents were losers, her dad was a total scumbag, it gives us more of an understanding as to why she is the way she is".
Explain that to the granddaughter of the man she so callously kicked down the hillside. Explain that to Illiana. If the parents that she incenerated were alive I'm sure they might also feel better knowing that they (the devils) made her do it!
How about Damian? Who could be sane with a mother like his? How about Camillo? He has a bad dad. The people he beat are scarred but alive. Why doesn't everyone male or female, drop dead gorgeous or ugly, rich or poor, deserve equal honorable mention under the "it's the way I was raised law"?

At the rsik of being unpopular because of my opinion and ideas, i will speak my mind here. Barbara Greco/Rebecca Sanchez is an interesting case study in human emotions and development through a life of horrible abuse, neglect and deprived of love. What to some may be considered a singl shred of humanity tha tBabs displayed was evident when she desperately wanted to know what happened to her daughter Aurora. she had lost total control of herslef in desperation and her total and absolute for Artemio Bravo surfaced and she acted on it by chokoing him. This desperation continued to manifest itself in her aggressive questioning of the Mother Superior. She caught herself a few times and apologized but lost her composure once more and freaked out. Self control can only go so far in that situation. Put ourselves in her position and will some of us honestly act that way or worse?

The Actions of Barbara may not be excusable but root cause of her behavior has been revealed and it is an interesting study in her maternal instict to come after her own child. Even animals react in kind when their own child is threatened. The courts normally determine if an accused criminal was of the right mind when a crime was committed. Brain washing is a true phenomenon. On a very small scale, we can look at the Patty Hearst case. She was kidnapped and ended up helping her abductors rob a bank. She was also a family memebr of the wealthy publisher William Randolph Hearst.

Numerous criminal theories state that if an individual has a genetic predisposition to commit crime - we can assume that Rebecca's parents committed petty crimes other than victimless crimes like public drunkenness or disorderly conduct combined with the environment in this case abuse, we are assuming since she was born. Domestic abuse and sexual abuse by a parent, plus continued sexual abuse by Artemio Bravo plus an indoctrination to Artemio's evil ways. Sure she is highly intelligent and educated and Artemio could have funded a team of tutors to provide her with necessary working knowledge of the world and education minus the teaching of loving and caring for human beings. Suffice it to say, she was deprived of Catholic teachings or any other faith ans humanistic teachings as well.

despite all that Babs was able to show what little compassion and shred of humanity that Artemio Bravo tried to erase from her.

Subject a child to the same situation and 19 out of 20 times they turn out similar to Babs.

The easy answer is to condemn all of them. But it is really deeper than that.

Ibarramedia

I always maintained that Babs is more likable than Camilo or Damian if you remove the murders and What she did to Liliana. I could not stand Damian and Camilo's behavior and character. They are even more mean to people in general than Babs is.

It is also disproprotionalte to compare Babs upbringing to Damian's and Camilo's. By a longshot..... just my humble opinion whether you agree withme or not.

Ibarramedia

Gonzo wasn't mean or bad, but like so many dads, too busy with work, so raising the children is left to the mom. And Monserrat, in my opinion was one of the worst. Camilo is the way he is because of her, class consious, thinking it was funny & cute when Camilo as a kid pushed Soledad in the pool.

Julie the FELS cd contains 19 tracks. 4 or 5 which i listen to. Of course it does not contain the vocal version of Para Siempre because as you said earlier, it is in Vicente Fernandez's cd.

i'm amazed at how the tone of the whole series changes with the tonterias nonsense taken out. Maybe they could have done it all in 65 episodes and our commneter and viewers would have a different view of it.

Ibarramedia

I thought i would throw in one more interesting tidbit in the study of human dynamics. If everyone's head is not spinning yet. We also have free will.

We can look at the Elizade children's upbringing and behavior. We assume that they all went to the best shcools money could buy that they qualified for. Why are they different? Why are people in our family and relatives behaving differently?

You have the :

1) Environment

2) Personal Experience

3) Genetics

4) Free will

Feel free to agree or disagree and I won't take it personal as long as no personal attacks are done. :) ;)

It is time for me to get the latest version of an industrial strength Beanie. Lol. :)

Once again please excuse all my typos in all my posts dating to last year. I'm a bad typer and the blog has no way to correct that unlike normal messageboards. Maybe I could hire Connie to type my posts. ;) J/k Just kidding.

I think Lucero's best acting is trying to do in Artemio. The rage was understandably realistic. I think she'll get an award for that.

Even though Silvia was fantastic, my guess is there is a lot of jealously, and resentment with her coming from Azteca, so if the voting is like the Oscars, I don't think they will be for her.

I haven't a clue about the male lead. If it's Yáñez for FELS, there is no way our FC can't win, but we don't know yet how Wm Levy is or was in Sortilegio.

I still can't get over Yáñez beating out FC for DA when FC was so great in Pasión, I'm still mad.

Anyone know when the awards show will be on or what it's called? Is it the Latin Grammys or is that music?

Variopinta, are you sure that Jacinto fell out of a tree rescuing a cat? I thought that was the cover story he gave out so that his wife and others wouldn't worry. I thought that in fact he was beaten up. But my Spanish is hopeless, so you may well be correct. Either way, he recovered remarkably quickly!

Sure, I'll type them for you! :-)

Yeah, he rescued a cat because you could hear it mewing outside the door. He climbed up in the tree and fell out as I recall.

Netgirl--

"In both cases, she also shared her heart ... she thought that there were no secrets."

EdFr kept her in the dark for so very long while so many others knew all the "secrets".

I don't think I'd like that.

Kat, thanks so much for that evocative recap, with the snarky asides. Too many highlights to quote.

I had a quibble with the tape Barbi used. I don't think that slick brown packing tape would hold as well as good ol' duct tape, but I'm not an expert like Barb.

Loved Cami losing the shoes and Variopinta's suggestion to keep them under the bed posts. Obviously, he wouldn't think of such a commonsense idea. Everything has always been taken care of for him in his previously privileged life. Maybe the bruises on his feet will be only the beginning of the damage he suffers in prison.

Ibarramedia mentioned La Llorona. That can be Barbi's new identity if she doesn't get Aurora back. She can endlessly search and weep for her hija.

When Barbi came to the Elizaldes as Artemio's "killing machine," she was being sold into a variety of prostitution with that clueless chunk'o'meat Gonzo. There must have been some moments of satisfaction in living a life of luxury, as opposed to, say, the childhood Aurora suffered. Also, the satisfaction of knowing how clever she was in manipulating people and events.

We still don't know how Artemio gained his wealth and power and we don't know exactly how Barb was trained to be the bitch/killer she is (ok, natural talent at work).

Fernanada was awesome as she cried ugly/real and remembered the moments with Fr/Ed/red bed. Also as she confronted Gardenia. And thanks, Kalilah! "Are you going to eat that?" If Ddenia doesn't watch out, she'll turn into one of those old hacienda kitchen ladies, still yearning after Don Santorito and crying in her humble room at night.
La Paloma

I can't take another La Llorana!

Forgot to say it "Yay! Lili's free!" When she wakes up, she can do makeup with Venus, like back in the mud wrestling days.
La Paloma

Kat, Thanks for the wonderful recap. I'm really needing the help with my captions acting up and so much is so important right now.

Netgirl, Though I enjoyed the scenes of Fr/Ed and Fer finally being together, I too feel that Franco "and" Eduardo betrayed Fernanda. There has been discussion prior to this about Fr/Ed being a flawed hero, but some of the prior jealousy, stupidity or lies which could be justified for the greater good just don't wash in this case. I agree that it was not an honorable thing for Eduardo go to bed with Fer when she did not know the truth.

Jody, In reference to your following statement:
"So, Gardenia finally found an opportunity to spill the beans to Fernanda -- and Fernanda can't handle it very well. With this little meeting behind closed doors of the wonder twins, I actually lost sympathy for both of them. "
I think most of us feel a lot of sympathy for Fer, I am just curious to know what it was that put you off here?

I do admit I was surprised that Fernanda essentially betrayed Aurora though. I think this was the first time I have ever seen her not take the high road. I think she could have told the truth to Aurora and then asked her to go with Babs to help in Lili's rescue. In asking Aurora's help in this huge thing, how they were going to get Aurora back should have been part of the explanation. I could only put Fer's lapse down to her emotional state of finding out the Eduardo truth and the overwhelming desire to save Lili especially after the tremendous letdown of Operation Lili-Pad.

Khalilah, I also loved the imagery of Fernanda and Gardenia as dogs hanging over the dish of Fr/Ed.

Barbara

Variopinta: The TVyNovelas awards are always something else. Sometimes they are clearly chosen by Televisa instead of the public and TV Azteca's novelas are not eligible for awards.

However Lucero would go into the antagonic category, in wich she will probably be favorite and since next years whe will be celebrating her 30 years of artistic career they could probably give her some special award. Her biggest rivals would be Leticia Calderón and Daniela Castro for ENDA and Mi Pecado respectively, but I do think this will be her year.

Silvia would go into the protagonic. She has less oportunities to win as I'm thinking Maité Perroni or Jaqui Bracamontes could get that one. Neither of those two are at Silvia's level but they are Televisa favorites. Perroni is actually doing a good job on Mi Pecado, her character there is much better written than in Cuidado, but there's some good actors in that novela and she gets outshined easily, however her fans from her RBD days are very vocal. Bracamontes is more central in Sortilegio, but I don't care about her acting.

Then there's the fact that Corazón Salvaje could be eligible next year and Aracely Arámbula could get in the protagonic category, but not in the antagonic because Aimeé is not evil (or at least she has never been before), so instead of logically splitting the votes in the respective categories they would summarize them for protagonic, and that would give her the win. This could also mean Yañez getting the award as leading actor instead of Colunga.

The Antagonic Male will probably go to Rogelio Guerra for Artemio Bravo. Armando Araiza and David Zepeda are his biggest threats but since they are younger they could be overlooked. They could give it to either of them and then give Guerra the first actor award (designed for veteran actors).

Silvia I think could have better chances in the female revelation category as she does have a very vocal fanbase that would like to see her win something.

Jarocha

Kat, mille grazie! No time to replay your wonderful one-liners but you're on top of your game!

Adios, gang! Hasta manana,
Maggarita

Jarocha, thanks for your analysis of the TV y Novelas awards. I don't get the magazine, but my friend Sue does and emails me the ratings they give novelas. Now, they rate some of the Telemundo novelas quite highly, but none of those actors ever win the awards.

This annoys me, as it seems Televisa has rigged the TV y Novelas awards program.

Also according to my friend Sue, Más Sabe El Diablo got a 10 rating (Telemundo) but I'm sure none of those actors (all excellent, especially Miguel Varoni as the villain) will be eligible for TV y Novelas acting awards.

Also glad to see you share my opinion of Bracamantes. I'm probably not going to watch Sortilegio because of her, plus William Levy doesn't do much for me either.

Netgirl, thanks for agreeing with my Eduardo explanation. Now for a guys perspective on Sleeping with Fernanda under those circumstances.

Fernanda is divorced from Damian Erika fled the altar thus cancelling Franco's wedding and they both have not done it yet. The lust and years of repression for Eduardo/Franco/ Fred is just too much. He had to let it out lest he go crazy. I just can't fathom how he could not be with any other girl all those years. And he is madly, deeply, trully in love with Fernanda. So it was like a fourth and goal, love and lust thing. My take from a guy's perspective. :)

I wouldn't mind Maite Perroni winning. I haven't seen Mi Pecado yet, obvi, but I loved her in Cuidado con el Angel. The writing was terrible but her acting was superb.

Why didn't Fer put a tracking device on Aurora? I'm sure Esteve could have gotten his hands on one. Why swap prisoners when you could free everyone?

I try not to read too much into it and just accept it for what it was. I thought it was very sweet.

The Fr/Ed-Fernanda interlude, I mean.

Jarocha, tks for the info

Do you know approximately when the awards show is on? I saw one but have no idea when.

In the only defense I have of FELS, Diana Bracho & Guillermo Garcia Cantú were fantastic.

I enjoyed it even though it was kind of campy.

Did the DVD leave out any of the Ewwwww scenes with Gabi and Feo? Watching that once was enough.

Connie, I believe it was out or at least minimized. I don't remember. i'm very grateful they eliminated almost all of Quintina's appearances save for 2 or 3 scenes.

Fernando Escandon has my vote for evilest and cruelest villain in TNs.

Go ahead and put an 'L' on my forehead for having the Mexican and US version of FELs. as well as the cd. lol.

Ibarramedia

Thanks for the great recap. I too was actually surprised that Barbie yelled at "Daddy NoBucks" but it was probably something she had been wanting to do for the past 15 years. And anyway I can't believe that among other things he really thinks that Fer is going to let Cami go free.

It seemed to me that Barbie was about to ask Franco how he knew Aurora was her daughter, but I likef that Ed/Fr and Art made her suffer without even knowing it and that Damian also has his own plans to get even with her.

In all the excitement of the past 3 blockbuster episodes, we missed Priscilla in action. What will she do now? Will she leave or stay? She's another nice girl that has my compassion. Not really bad or good just regular stuck with that dysfunctional family and a onced crazed stalker/Sperm Donor who she ended up saving and smartly exiling for his safety.

Call me ruthless, but I might have let the chips fall where the may regarding his fate with The executioner with a cab. It was a stroke of genius to send him away for his safety and not to contact her. That way, even if she saved his life, he would still be out of her hair.

Gardenia and Erika get hugs for being unfortunate in love and have been piled on too much.

Ibarramedia

Guillermo Garcia Cantú (Fernando)is in Cameleones but it will probably be in an earlier time slot since it seems 9:00 will be taken by Sottilegio & Corazón Salvaje.

I would still love to know how Artemio knew Dominga. He is wealthy so why leave her with a drunk poor woman who treated poor Aurora like a maid.

elle, because she was convenient in Artemio's twisted mind. Not too educated, drunk, will do anything he says in turn for meager monthly payments to barely exist. and Aurora to him was out of sight, out of mind. Just keep me appraised of her existence.

Ibarramedia

He gets my vote too. He was just awful. I hated Quintina so that's a plus. Do you recommend buying it?

Connie, If you think you will like it go ahead. It's up to you. Depending on how much you actually liked the series. Some people may not like any part of it. it is their prerogative.

It is refreshing to see the english dialogue word for word. as opposed to a sometimes brief summary. I'm a detail oriented guy, so I want to see everything.

Ibarramedia

Connie, if you mean FELS, I wouldn't pay 2 centavos for it. You can always watch the few good parts on You-tube.

Good point Variopinta. Maybe I'll get Pasion instead.

Ibarramedia--Being a detailed kind of guy isn't a bad thing unless you are trying to get me to make a list which will never happen. :P

Connie good luck grocery shopping. :) ;)

Ibarramedia

Don't forget you can get some of the novelas at your library. My library has Amor Real, the same butchered one I bought. I'm giving Netflex a try. Their turnaround time so far is excellent & they have a large selection of Spanish movies & novelas. I only watch one on Sat night. The last one was Intacto, didn't like it at all. The one I have for this wk is "Y tu mamá también".

I have had Netflix for a long time. They are great. They have a pretty good selection too.

Ibarramedia, you'd hate grocery shopping with me. I go down just about every aisle and then when I forget something I turn around and go back. No list.

I didn't see FELS and have no desire to see the uncut version (having read so many passionately negative messages about it). However, the abridged versions cut out about 85-90%, and that may help!

I may be a lone voice in favor of cut versions, but I rather like them. Sometimes they're a little hard to follow, but then again, sometimes so are the uncut versions! And most of the tedious drivel and cutesy but unimportant subplots have been eliminated. I'm really curious to see what they do with MEPS when they put it on DVD. It's the first full-length TN that I've seen uncut. I'll be curious to see what they cut out.

Novelera the thing about the TVyNovelas awards is that those were designed many years ago by Televisa for the mexican audience. The public buys the magazine and votes. In México foreign novelas are not as popular as the national product, Mas Sabe El Diablo being from Telemundo and shown here on Galavisión takes away all chances of winning even on if they were being completely honest in counting the votes. I'd be dubious too of the ratings given in TVyNovelas. But if those 10 points are refering to the people watching in México, then there's no competition with the 25 to 30 points MEPS used to have on regular basis. I think the best way to go about it is to include a best foreign telenovela and best actors in a foreign telenovela awards.

Variopinta I think the awards have been held in March for the last years.

Julie I didn't have a good opinion on Maite but she is holding her own in Mi Pecado, and she is playing an educated rich girl so no more mumbling.

Jarocha

They could cut out the whole witch thing and the Lovely thing. What else could they cut out though?

Connie,
Pasión was wonderful & with FC at his best.

Connie, thanks for the clarification about Jacinto. I remembered the sound of a cat, but somehow I thought I recalled someone saying Jacinto had been beaten up, so I assumed that the cat noise was a ruse to lure him outside. Oh well...Thanks to you and Variopinta for setting that straight.

Better than Alborada?

Thanks, Jarocha, again. I haven't seen the TV y Novelas ratings myself, as I said. My friend emails them to me from time to time. When she said Mas Sabe got a 10, I thought she meant on a scale of one to ten, it got the best score. En Nombre del Amor also got a 10 in that magazine issue.

I thought that what Sue was telling me was not ratings, as in number of viewers. Univision always wins that one because some areas of the US don't even broadcast Telemundo.

What I was referring to, again not having seen the magazine myself, is the rating that TV y Novelas gave Mas Sabe regarding the quality of the telenovela.

I saw the whole Pasión novela & bought Alborada, so it was cut, but not cut as bad as Amor Real. It's hard to say, all 3 are great.
Look at my picture, that's Ricardo de Slalmanca y Almonte in Pasión.
¡Qué hombre!

Connie, I agree that they could cut out the witch nonsense and the Lovely subplot. I wouldn't mind less of healthy, happy Jacinto and Margarita and less of Silvestre. What else? Gardenia's kidnapping and all scenes with Damian's mother. Also Erika's mother's "pregnancy."

Jarocha: Do you know where the TV Y Novela award show is usually held? My hubbie works the Latin Grammys every years- this year Vegas Nov 8, But it's just music.

Ibarramedia,

"So it was like a fourth and goal, love and lust thing. My take from a guy's perspective. :)"

I hear you, and my husband would explain it the same way ... but that is part of my point ... he wasn't thinking about Fernanda ... even with all of the pent-up love/lust that he had for her. He was taking advantage of an opportunity to "have her."

So yes, he's a flawed hero (ala Barbara 03:26), and he is extremely handsome, and he's generally a good guy (even though he does some really dumb things like TASTING the milk) --- but, in this case, he was not truly LOVING, he was LUSTING, and as much as he might argue the point, he covered his needs in a selfish way.

I came to this board as an early defender of Damian (still think that he's cute!) but I came to MEPS when he was on crutches, so I missed most of his antics until I caught up on YouTube. Damian is scummy. Cute, but sadly, he's not a good guy.

On the other hand, Fr/Ed *is* a good guy, but I still think that he took advantage of Fer. I know that it's "just a story" but even in real life, people let the handsome guys "get away" with doing dishonorable things because they are cute, fine, handsome, etc.

So ... I appreciate the guy's perspective!! And I understand where you're coming from but I'm not backing down, although I'll temporarily get off the soapbox. :)

Thanks for the lively discussion!

Regarding the coupling or bunny hopping (thanks, susanlynn), I was just happy to see it. I didn't really think of it as his taking advantage of Fer with a false identity until I read it here expressed by several commenters.

I think my instinctive reaction, not that it was all that clear, is that on some level, perhaps cellular, she knows it's Eduardo. These two totally fit the "star-crossed" lovers category. They are meant to be together and it didn't matter to me which name he used making love to her.

Kat: Great stuff! Daddy Nobucks was priceless --oops! Loved the whole thing! Your acerbic wit never falters. Hope you'll be with us for Sortilegio.

Novelera, I understand now. TVyNovelas puts rates the novelas in how good they are on a scale from 1 to 10 it's true. That must have been the info your friend send you, you are right. But yeah, the awards are based on the public vote. Televisa interferes sometimes, like years ago when Azteca's novelas were popular, those were only time we could tell easily that they were doing it.

Elle I think the place changes sometimes but last year the awards were held in Acapulco.

you explained it better than I could. Regarding the dual identity love affair. Almost like Clark Kent/Superman before he married Lois Lane.

Netgirl, i appreciate a different perspective. it does not always have to be opposing just different.
In my humble opionion, Eduardo/Franco was way past the uh, manual stimulation for lack of better words since we a re afamily friendly site. Even if he was wrong for doing that in your eyes, he still loves her and like others said, on a cellular and maybe instinctual level, Fernanda feels the same way whether it is Eduardo or Franco. Other real life guys may not even last a day or a week in repression. The man has endured for a decade and a half.

I agree that Eduardo/Franco is a flawed hero but not for the lovemaking. But for the other things he has pulled like wrecking Fernanda's emotions with the faked death, the creepy flowers from beyond the grave to ruin her wedding, the make believe romance with cohort Erika and other hijinks.

Let me ask all of you here what your criterion for watching a telenovela would be. Is it the male lead -since the majority here are female? Is it the story? the views?

I watch it for the story. As much as i love all the beautiful ladies there, they are a plus for me. But I won't waste my time if If don't like the story.

Maybe Jarocha can answer my next question. Since FELS has been topredoed by critics here and elsewhere, why does it seem like it is the greatest Mexican Novela of all time in Mexico? Just nrtrigued by the disparate viewpoint on it.

Ibarramedia

It was a pleasure reading all the interesting comments waiting for me after a looong day at work. It's 7 pm here, and I'm tired , but I have to give a call out to my 3 amigas : 1] Khalilah , you are too funny , girl [''You going to eat that ?''] 2] La Paloma , I loved ''Fr'ed in the red bed'' ...kind of a sexy Dr. Seuss 3] Jarocha, I really appreciate all the information you share with us. Feel free to ask me any grammar questions about English !!! Thanks , everyone ,for the great comments and a special thanks again to 5ft...I want to sit next to you at parties.

You are right Ibarramedia. I bet he was about to burst. One thing I liked of this novela was that our hero waited for her in the same sense that she waited for him. No double standards of watching the galán getting it on with other girls while the main lady remained a virgin waiting for him.

Jarocha

Leftover from previous recap. Everyone commented about how "random" the love scene was - Scotty beamed them to a different house in a different state, and the events of the day would not put Fern "in the mood for love."

But what bugged me most was how we were suddenly dropped into the middle of lovemaking. Two virgins, and she's been keeping at least some distance from him all along. We saw NOTHING of the process of her falling into his arms. None of the seduction, attraction, orchestration, decision, anticipation, Nothing! WE'VE BEEN ROBBED!

Remember early on, that scene between them in Ed's study, that was just burninating? And we said, if it's like this now, imagine when they really get close! pfzzzzt. Nada.

CS-93 FOREVER!

Novelera~~~I wish that I could take creDit for ''bunnyhopping'' because I like that term even better than ''the horizontasl mambo'' or ''bumping little cars '' [shout out to Carlos] , but I believe that Melissa [a former recapper] coined the term. As for Fr'ed making love to Fer as Franco, I thought it was dishonest of him. At the beginning when he was so mad at Fer for being about to marry someone else, I thought that he would seduce her as Franco, but he was sooo noble and honorable and never went beyond long, soulful, hot kisses. ...........................................Where was I ?? What was my point ? Ah yes, The VERY sudden seduction and teleporting to the resort with the red bed was so abrupt and seemed out of character for Fr'ed. However, I have decided to chalk it up to the idea that Fr'ed thought he was either going to be dead or in the U.S. and would nunca jamais see his onetruelove again and ....he wanted them to be together [bunnyhop, horizontal mambo, bump little cars] just once before never ever seeing Fer again......OKAY, Francuardo , I FORGIVE YOU . As for why I watch the novelas [my first was Alborada] , I have 2 main reasons : 1] Fernando Colunga and 2] Eduardo Yanez

Sure looked to me like Fernanda was a very willing amante & who could blame her. I don't care what name he's using. Only 6 hours to settle this, well 5, the last hour has to be all love & kisses, te amo's, bodas, etc. etc.

Hey, everybody, this is exciting, isn't it? Variopinta, I disagree about the last hour - I think that will be at most the last twenty minutes! Prior to that, there will have to be last-minute disasters of staggering magnitude. Usually they involve tiny babies in danger or people dangling over pirhana tanks but I'm not sure we have either of those in this novela...

Ibarramedia - my criterion are the story and how it is interpreted. Case in point: BLF vs LFMB
I've been a slave to BLF on Telefutila and dumped LFMB half-way thru---the only reason I hung/hanged in there as long as I did was because the forum folks were so fun---but ultimately I couldn't take it any more. LFMB put me off telenovelas for almost two years!

So far, the actors make no difference to me. Story & interpretation do.

And Franco told Fernanda he was leaving when Lili was safe.

Woiw, Elle```Your husband works the Latin Grammys !!! Let us know if Pit Bull is on the show this year and what your husband thinks of him. I heard him for the first time on The Alma Awards and asked a young guy in my grammar class from Colombia about him. Carlos told me that he is Cuban . I noticed that his song was in Spanish and English. His music has a very strong beat....loved it.

Doris, We have a lot more in common than I thought. I too have been wathcing Betty La Fea and the original beat out all the other versions. I have seen just about every first episode of all the international versions that are available in youtube. While it is not an accurate assessmant of the shows as a whole, I did not have the time nor the desire to spend endless days watching countless international versions of Betty la fea.

As I stated earlier, I watch for the story. Having said that, I cannot follow here without watching a show. The recaps are great, discussion lively and interesting but it all means nothing to me without watching it. Sorry i'm a very visual guy.

Ibarramedia

So,,,let's make some bets...How many of you think that Fer is already pregnant with Baby Fr'ed from that one noche de boda sin boda on Fantasy Island ????? I didn't notice any stops at CVS or Riteaid before Fr'ed led Fer to that red bed before they were wed... .enough said. Sorry, I can't seem to stop myself. See what you've started , La Paloma ?

If I were producing this TN I would leave out Steve/Venus/Lovely/Cadmilho (entirely). That storyline served no purpose other than to get Cad in jail and there were other, less complicated ways of doing that. I would leave out the whole Damian/Fernanda wedding. I'd rather just see a long engagement than all the contortions they put her character through to remain a virgin. I would leave out the Erika/Wedding part (total waste of time and of a good actress IMHO). AND I would leave out the re-enacting of the diary. The "bones" of this TN is Artie's revenge and all that could have been accomplished by him reading the diary alone in a darkened room with just that growling voice of controlled rage to give it emphasis. The Santi/Aurora storyline could be cut way down as well.

Hey, Susanlynn y todos, man this is so much fun! Ibarra, novelas are in the eye/mind/heart of the beholder. Though LFMB turned some off, it turned me on to novelas. I was reading and commenting on the Spanish (Univision) board and I was totally caught up in how Gah-Gah Loca Las Chicas were for Jaime Camil. For us, the love scenes between him and Angelica Vale had such a real feel, a palpable chemistry. I don't care what anyone says those, for me, are the best love scenes I have ever seen, love, not lust or graphic humping. This got me sorta hooked on watching if there is a beautiful or handsome or masculine (all three are best) galan. I so love the Spanish language that for a beautiful galan and the exposure to Spanish I often put up with inane story lines and mediocore story lines. And, I hope this is not offensive to anyone, I tend to like the tall, dark and hansome type of galan, stereotypical Latin Lover. I also like action and suspense some, ROMANCE more, can do without murder torture, domestic, child and elder abuse.

And I luuuuv chattin with alla y'all.

Oh yeah, Paula, you're right, even though I luved the love scene, they DID rob us now that I thik back to that office scene. Damn.

I watch telenovelas mostly for the story and characters. I might give a show more of a chance if it has an actor in it that I really like, but that's only an extension of the grace period. If I don't like the story, or if I hate all of the characters, I can't stick with it no matter who's in it.

Regarding the mismatch in popularity between Mexico and Caray, we've had several conversations about this over the years. Pasion was a total dud in Mexico, but it was very popular on Caray. And you know FELS was bigger in Mexico than it was here. The thing we keep coming back to is that we on Caray are only a small, non-representative sample of telenovela watchers.

In Mexico, most people probably watch telenovelas for the same reason we watch regular soaps in the US: junk food for the mind, to get away from a rough day. In contrast, most of us on Caray are drawn at least somewhat because of the novelty of another culture and language, so there's a cerebral component to it which reacts well to a historical setting or a well-crafted story, and balks at lazy writing.

There are probably Mexicans who look down their noses at telenovelas but enjoy some of the worst English-language programming just for the fun of trying to understand it like we do with telenovelas.

Just my guess.

Regarding the lineup for the Cristina show, don't assume that just because some of the stars aren't on Tuesday's show, that they won't be on at all. Often Cristina devotes two weeks in a row to a telenovela, so maybe Babs, Nanda, Gardenia, etc. will be on the following week. That would be neat. (I've never seen Damian on Cristina, not even in a taped segment, so I don't expect to see him this time either.)

Oops Variopinta beat me to it on the Cristina show - thanks for the details!

Silvia got back to México this week so if they want her now, they could do a live show with her, but I don't know if Cristina has live shows.

Jarocha

Julie - I think you're spot on with your assessment of viewers of telenovela and American shows. School has started, and so has Adult Ed. ESL classes. I encourage them to watch soap operas for the same reason we watch telenovelas. One Japanese lady was already hooked on Desperate Housewives.

Susalynn, thank you for your offer of help with my english. I would be very thankful if you could help me a little bit with some information on grammar. I'm afraid I have a problem with run-on sentences and the use of the comma. I've found some sites but I'm not sure of how helpful they are.

Elizalde Family Dynamics/Genetics:

The first 3 Elizalde children* were horrible, but the last 2 weren't. Why?

I think the answer is Monserrat/Jeronimo/Altagracia, but not necessarily because of genetics.

Anibal/Lili*/Camiii were under Monserrat's influence a lot longer than Fernanda and Santiago. Ironically, I think the murder of Monserrat was good for Fernanda & Santi. Barbie HAD to be loving and nurturing towards the two youngest Elizaldes to stay in Gonzo's good graces. Without Monserrat encouraging meanness, cruelty and looking down on people because of their station in life, Fer and Santi were able to grow up to be nice, kind people. And then it appears that both of them were sent out of Mexico for schooling so that got them away from their family and around other people.

Gonzo was able to ignore Monserrat's nasty attitude because he married a woman just like his mom. Gonzo was just like his dad Jeronimo by ignoring the antics of his nasty wife.

*Lili was a mouthy brat when Monserrat was on the scene. Although teenage girls often are mouthy brats, with a mom like Monserrat Lili probably would have turned out just as nasty as her mom and brothers.

I also think if Barbie never came on the scene and Monserrat had lived, Fernanda would have eventually become just like Erika and would have dissed Eduardo for being a camp worker's son.

Just my opinion.

Hola amigos, I have been having a little home coming today reading all the comments for after a long hiatus. I am so blissful at the FRED in Bed satin RED doing a burn with Fern. It all came back in a rush: the Erica Jong's "Fear of Flying" and most especially the "Zipless F**k. So easy at that right moment, rules be dashed. My sentiments did not go at all even for a minute to the feeling that he was being thoughtless. I think she wanted that night at least as much as he did. And ohhh, it was so pretty visually. This was strong both as story line and visual delights.

I also agree that she knows him inspite of the veil of the name change and has been longing for him since she doused him with mud. and of course before in her childhood fantasies and dreams.

Hey Ibarramedia, I am one who remembers the picture of granddaddy as Anibal with handlebar mustache and you did call it right way back when.

Ibarramedia, I watch a TN for a combination of the story and actors. I'll cut it a little slack either way. If the story's going to stray in crazy directions, I want my favorite actors there doing a great job. Or, if my favorite/good actors aren't in the cast, the story better be good.
I also like lots of nice scenery, exposure to culture and customs, and some good music.
I enjoyed the chance to see Rubi, Amarte Es Mi Pecado, and Mariana de la Noche in re-runs. Liked much of LFMB, loved Pasion, was lukewarm on Tontas. I don't get really excited about TNs centered on hot young bodies with lots of swimsuits. (Maybe because of my older not-in-shape body and years of life experience.)
