Amor Bravío #149 (Uni 144) Tue 3/19/13 Roman is blessedly silent and Miriam learns her ABC’s.
Labels: bravio
QTH? Why are they continuing to ignore my Rodolfo? I can only hope it's because he's busy filming on another TN where he'll have a more prominent role.
Can't wait to see Daniel stammer his way through the explanation of his relationship with Camila.
Can't wait to see Dan do his own version of a tap dance to get out of that one.
You only left one thing out of your recap. Cam asks Dan if she can give her mom her/his Virgin medallion and he agrees.
Great scenes between Cam and Gussy. For all the Gussy haters, she is eating a whole pile of humble pies right now. Hopefully that satisfies any remaining bloodlust. :) Cam told her mom that it was important for them to love themselves above any man. I think this provides some insight into how she's chosen to handle the Dan situation.
Ok. Must sleep now.
Here is hoping that someone can get those fingerprints before Camila agrees to sign over La Malquerida to the devil.
To Cathyx about "novelas" in English: It was tried, but done badly. My9 tried it a few years ago and it was as though they intended it to fail:
1. Writing was poor. Stories were not sufficiently compelling.
2. Sex was still being treated like a 7th-grade locker room joke instead of intelligently and realistically (like in AB).
3. Bad casting/acting.
4. US TV audiences aren't ready for prime time on this stuff. This was asking audiences to completely change their viewing habits and patterns. It might have worked better if they had put it in Late Fringe instead where US audiences had watched M-F stripped programming for years.
Must get some zzzz's. See you guys tomorrow.

Except I was so impressed at how they all chipped in make food-Mariano did a nice job chopping those tomatoes-that I didn't notice how unclean they all were. But with Augie in jail, she should get used to germs.
For being such great evil characters Dio and Hissie really kinda suck at scheming. Aside from a few murders nothing has really worked out for them. Not now with Augie and Iliana (hooray! A name!) now foiling them.
Kelly
I was saying "Duh" to Miriam about the "C" as in Camilla but same to me, cuz I did not see that it could stand for Caridad too. Hahaha.
I want to add Natalia to our list of helpful redeemables -- if not quite there yet. She kept after Dio and this may result in still another twist in his plotting against Augustina. We'll see. She wants to believe her father but did hear her mother's words about being loyal to people she has known all of her life.
Aaron as Dr. Phil. Perhaps it is time for him to go back to Chiapas.
I loved the way that Camila asked Vivi about the situation with Roman as she came in the door to get food for Augustina. The mark of a true friend. Their friendship, even with its bumps, has been a nice feature of this novela.
Teresa's dress aside, I think she has looked very pretty lately. The actress has the kind of sharp features that can make her look very cold or very pretty, depending on the outfit, the make-up, her hair. She is at her best personality-wise when in legal action mode.
Happy first day of Spring, all. It's slow in coming to the northeast this year, but we'll get there.
Notice that although it seemed that the writers were being hard on Vivi, it's actually Rafa who has given/is giving in to Vivi's wishes, as Cam pointed out. After he went away for a few days, he decided that he could accept her desire not to get married, and they added a few more germs to Gussy's prison meal by making love on the dining table. And now it looks like he's coming around on the idea of adoption of Roman too.
I notice that Camila skirted around the issue when Gussy asked her not to do anything crazy to get her out of jail. Cam made it very clear to everyone that she would do whatever it takes to get her mama out of jail, whom she loves more than anyone else in the world. Dio knew Cam's Achilles heel, when he chose Gussy as his backup plan for getting what he wants from Cam-- MQ, and something else...
I was glad everyone was able to convince Cam not to go over to Dio's house to confront him. She was hot to give him a piece of her mind. But it would have been futile anyway.
However, I am disappointed by how easily Nat let Dio off the hook when she went to see him. She is still trying to fool herself that he is a good man. Come on Nat!
Paquita- It's not odd that you missed Cam asking Dan about the medallion. She was multitasking and did it between thanking him for the blanket, encouraging him to go home, and asking him to hurry up and cede the ranch to her. But it was a nice tender moment between the two of them. And I have been wondering for the past two weeks why neither of them has acknowledged that she's wearing a piece of jewelry that's so significant to both of them.
Vivi - I don't think Natalia let Dio off the hook. I think she did a great job of forcing him to help Agustina. How he goes about pretending to do that remains to be seen, but Natalia, imo, is now skeptical about dear ole dad.
“Miriam turns into the shrew complaining about the late hour” Glad I wasn’t the only one who saw her like that. Boy, was she slow –I thought Caridad will start playing charade or something.
Martha: “I don't think Natalia let Dio off the hook. I think she did a great job of forcing him to help Agustina. How he goes about pretending to do that remains to be seen, but Natalia, imo, is now skeptical about dear” AGREED
I forgave Augustina the day she acknowledged how wrong she was about Danny boy and ask for forgiveness. She’s paying too extreme a punishment for just blindly believed in Dionisio’s lies – she doesn’t deserve such humiliation.
Tonight, Dan will be having a very bad day …
The plot twist of Daniel fighting Camila to keep the ranch in a good way for him to hang on both in his own and Camila's interest. This will present difficult emotional tugs for Camila.
Renata, you are so right. A coming bad day for Daniel. I hope that he will be the man we want him to be and tell the truth or something closer to the truth than he has so far. He's so NOT interested in Miriam and so very hooked on Camila that he's definitely not his best Daniel at the moment.
It never occurred to me that the food preparers hadn't washed their hands after coming back from the delegación. Then again, I enjoyed Kelly's take on this: "But with Augie in jail, she should get used to germs."
Ozzie often gives wise advice, especially to Amanda re Nat, but I think he's WRONG WRONG WRONG!! about not telling Camila what happened to her mother at Dio's the night before. She needs to see the whole situation for what it is. Sigh.
Traveling Lady, I really liked your point about Dan fighting Cam to keep the ranch. I wonder whether that will be enough to throw a monkey wrench into Dio's plan to coerce Cam into turning LMQ over to him. Perhaps not, since surely the TN has to hit rock bottom in these últimas semanas before Justice and Love Triumph in the End.
One question about Leoncerdo. I'm beginning to wonder whether perhaps I understood him correctly in the garbage scene. He sees the three people coming for the garbage, and he says "No, pues sí, sí sólo un, dos, tres gendarmes cuidando basura. No le saques, no le saques." I took this to mean that he was sizing up his odds of taking out/overcoming all three and escaping. I continue to be unsure about "no le saques," however. Can anyone tell me for sure what this means here?
Myo-
I thought Nat gave Dion a pass too. She tells him she's in jail, he acts surprised, but did nothing about it. No attempt to even visit her. And she doesn't seem alarmed by that. I'm so done with this fantasy life girl.
I'm also done with Luzma. She needs some serious help and I hate what she's doing to Pablo. She did this to him after the rape before the marriage also.
I didn't see Ileana replacing the drops with the other one filled with water. I hope she did it.
I also FF through the boring talk of Aggie and Cam. I didn't need to hear what she said, because it was very obvious.
I hope Dan doesn't cede the property to Camila now so that she won't give it to Dion.
I don't blame Miriam for being angry at Dan. He has been ignoring her and he's not treating her with much respect right now. And I also said that he didn't need to be the one who went to the ranch to give Cam that bad news. I let him off the hook because he's in love with her. I get that. Now Miriam will finally get that too. Finally.
Gussy DID like Daniel when he was "Andres" but she was so caught up in:
Andres being a choffer and beneath them socially
Andres turning out to be Daniel, the true heir to the ranch
Daniel being the son of Agatha, the woman she hated all her life
Daniel getting the ranch instead of Camila
proving to everyone that Daniel was the liar and Dionisio was the good one
that she didn't want to see that Daniel could be a pretty good partner for Camila.
Gussy's always had nagging doubts, but now she knows that what Camila, Daniel, Vivi, Rafa etc. was telling her was true: Dionisio is a very bad person.
So now Gussy's on her apology tour to Camila, Osvaldo, Amanda etc. What I'd like to see is Gussy apologize to Daniel, even though he knows she is sorry. After all she's done and said to her, he still raced to Agustina's aid in her time of need without reproaching her.
Miriam, on the other hand, is about to go hard on everyone* (Daniel, Dante, Abraham, everyone) when she finds out Daniel & Camila got married.
*I doubt Miriam will go hard on Camila because she will feel sorry for her.
Did anyone see Ileana leave the fake drops?—Thanks Vivi, I missed that.
I think Teresa is “ugly” when she’s in bitch mode and pretty when she’s in “I’m kinda into Dante” mode.
I was afraid when Miriam and Caridad were putting the budgekin to bed, that Cari was going to spill the beans about what she heard. I didn’t expect the necklace.
I agree. It’s time to tell Miriam. She’s been under A LOT of stress lately and has had no problems. Stressing about the love of her life being lukewarm in his affections is plenty stressful, too.
I also agree that Cam needs to know what Dio did to her mother. I think Cam thinks she can still reason with D and if she knew what he had done, she might take a different tack. I agree that at the moment Os mentioned it was not the time—Cam needed a chance to process. But now she needs to know.
Anon207: I thought Agustina did apologize to Dan at LMQ before she was arrested. “*I doubt Miriam will go hard on Camila because she will feel sorry for her.”—interesting.
TL: My sister just e-mailed me a gripe about the weather in Indiana being so cold on the first day of Spring. She is just not a cold weather person.
Nanette
Anon207, I think Gussie in essence apologized to Daniel when she expressed surprise and gratitude to him for his help even though she had behaved so badly toward him.
I am just overjoyed that Ilana actually seems to have succeed in her plan. It may have taken the entire TN for her to get it right but better late than never.
Nanette - I too live in IN and today is the coldest its been in a while with no real sign of spring in sight :(
“Can anyone say “drama queen”? I’m so over this storyline.”
Word. Luzma is acting like a poster child for why 18 year olds should not marry. I know that she has serious trauma and that Pablo is in his early twenties, but his child bride is driving the situation. At least he seems to think she’ll get over it. Why are the adults acting like her decision is permanent? Don’t most teenage love spats last a few days at the most?
Vivi: “Cam told her mom that it was important for them to love themselves above any man. I think this provides some insight into how she's chosen to handle the Dan situation.” ITA, although I do see some other options that were available to her as loving herself in a better way, or at least which would have led to a better outcome. I do love how this message is presented here, though. It is not a good idea to value being married to a man, any man, over the love of your daughters. Similarly, Camila has indicated that she would sign over the MalQ to free her mother because she values her mother over any piece of property. As much as I've been rooting for the MQ all this while, I see her point and I see her weariness of all the fighting. She just wants some peace and normality and I can't blame her at all.
Yay for Iliana finally doing something useful and smart! And what happened to Cayetano’s weird, bald, monotone lawyer? Were we not supposed to notice he suddenly has a good-looking, normal one?
I thought Gussy’s attitude towards Daniel had started to soften by the time they returned from their honeymoon and she seemed genuinely pleased to welcome them home. She also told Camila at some point after Dan left the MQ the first time that she had seen how happy he made her and how much in love they were. When Dan hugged Gussy the a couple of episodes ago, she acknowledged to him that she had been unfair. Maybe it wasn’t quite an apology, but it seemed good enough for Dan, who has been very forgiving towards her.
I sure hope that Miriam figures out what is going on, but somehow I doubt it. She doesn’t have a very good track record of putting pieces together and her pollyanna-ish wishful thinking blinds her from reality. I think she is willfully blind in a similar way that Gussy, Nat, and Caye have been, although not as badly. She’s going to need to get clobbered over the head. That necklace won’t do it, and especially not when that wedding picture is still waiting for her to find. QTH was that necklace doing as the only item in that top drawer? Did Dan WANT Miriam to find it or something?
I have always thought that Teresa was incredibly beautiful.
Juanita, lol about your closed eyes! That scene was very tense for me, too. Usually I have to close my eyes during graphic violence.
I'm also having trouble figuring out Leoncio's game plan with those buckets o'basura. Is he planning to stow himself away amongst the Hefties? Because if it takes three guys to muscle that cart up into the truck instead of using a mechanical lift, don't you think they'd notice an additional 200 lbs or so?
And I'm with whoever thinks Nati is NOT giving Dio a pass for his disregard of Aggie's distress. This actress has very expressive eyes (over-the-top, you might say) and I think I caught a sense of alarm and reservation in how far she allowed herself to push the issue. She was very forthright in demanding an explanation, but then she seemed to pull back when he went into full fakery mode. I think she got a sixth sense not to pursue the point and that she might even be reappraising his character. I'm still remembering that she was a smart, independent thinker at the beginning before she got seduced by Daddy dearest demonio Dionisio.
And Hallelujah, Ramon never even opened his mouth! But I worried a little that Rafa might end up with a hernia, picking him up like that.
Looking forward to Miriam ripping Danny a new one, cuz, I think she's taken the gloves off now. Cannot wait for him to stop shrugging and mumbling and stand up straight and face the music (and ditch the sweater). This ought to be quite the scene.
No, they do not. I have been holding back (and it ain’t easy, sistah friend!) on the completely unrealistically sanitized jails/prisons shown on TNs. Has this not been discussed here? I posted this link before but it was at the very end of a thread, so I am not sure who saw it. For a reality check that is NOT pretty, take a look at this or any “Locked up Abroad”:
World’s Toughest Prisons: Mexico (from National Geographic – excellent)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODA86LDauCE&feature=player_embedded
A much more realistic portrayal of an escape from a Chilean prison. Check out the prison conditions.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8YkIZAxJdE
From the US State Department:
Prison Facilities: Prison conditions in Mexico can be extremely poor. In many facilities food is insufficient in both quantity and quality, and prisoners must pay for adequate nutrition from their own funds. Many Mexican prisons provide poor medical care, and prisoners with urgent medical conditions may receive only a minimum of attention. U.S. citizens who are incarcerated in Mexico are sometimes forced to pay hundreds and even thousands of dollars in “protection money” to fellow prisoners. From 2008 through 2011, 30 U.S. citizen deaths in Mexican prisons have been reported, including at least 13 apparent homicides.
(It seems to me that anyone who the other prisoners think may have some money, like Gussy, Dio or Isa, would also be targeted for ‘protection money’.)

As for Ileana, yes, she switched the drops. It's hard to forget that her past actions led to Luzma's rape, but if she can save Cayetano, then she'll have done something good for a change.
As for Miriam, I like how she said to Dante that she could never remain in love with someone who no longer loved her. She's a lot tougher than I thought she was, and I hope she gets Daniel (el cobarde) to tell her what's up with him and Camila. Btw, I may think Dan is a coward, but I still like him.
Oh, dear Agustina, yes, she messed up big time, but she doesn't deserve this. She sounds almost suicidal at this point. I fear for her....
Lastly, Luzma is now over the top for me. If she can't see that what she's doing hurts Pablo more than her inability to have sex with him at this point, then she's in serious denial.
Marta- Thanks for pointing out the huge plot propeller-- Miriam clearly stating that she wouldn't be able to stay with a man who didn't love her anymore/as much as she loves him. Once she knows the real deal between Dan and Cam, her marriage is over for her. I did laugh when Dante nearly choked on his salad and wine when she asked him about his impossible love. LOL!
Time for Dante and Teresa to see if there could really be something between them. I noticed that each time Teresa said she was going anywhere (Chile or the police station), Dante's first reaction was to offer to go with her, although she suggested that he stay with Miriam while she went to the popo station.
I noticed too that Dante seems to want to accompany Teresa now wherever she goes....hope this goes in an amor direction:)
Maybe Naty could facilitate that.
Of course if Isa gets ahold of the BA, they will be able to sub that property to the investor group, or so they seem to think. Someone needs to get on that situation and soon.
I agree that Nat has a long way to absorbing the truth about Daddy Dearest.
Kelly
Thank you for the effort in a rather shifty episode (I mean scene shifting, natch). Don Manuel was three hours away? Who would have thunk it. No wonder Dan wanted a change of scenery for the ride home, even if it was having to sit in the back seat and watch Camila with Mariano.
Did anyone mention the coinkidink that when Cam & Mar were on their way *to* Don Manuel's the radio was playing her's and Dan's sad love song and she asked Mar if she could change it and when she did, it was playing Mar's love song. I was surprised she didn't turn that one off, too.
Lady in Lavender was a perfect description for Gussy last night--she doesn't belong there, but she does on another level. We've had a lot of Mexican jail scenes where if families or friends don't bring them bedding, clothing and food, they're just out of luck. Those places are pretty public (men guards) and pretty spare (concrete benches). I remember when Jeronimo spent quite a bit of time in the local jail, Nata wanted him to take a bath first thing. These jails are meant to be temporary. It's one thing to be held in the local jail waiting testimony (as in Issa), another to have enough evidence against you to hold you until trial and/or disposition and sentencing, for which you get sent to prison (as in Leoncio).
Dio only knows how to lie--Carolina, are you listening? I think he presses an internal button and out comes the next lie. The way he was delivering his lies, though make me think Nat is not hearing his sing-song, tell-tale "I'm really lying to you." He promised Nat he'd hire the *BEST* abogado in all of Mexico to get Gussy out of jail.
I noticed, too, that Dan was trying not to leave Camila at the jail. She was really cold to him at first, with her muchas gracias.
Baby Aggie has sure gotten comfortable on the set. I saw how she reached for Caridad and smiled. Does anyone know if she's the real mother? I realize they needed someone to hand off the baby to so MM could go about being the extra wife.
Don't know about anybody else, but in that last scene, where MM is really steamed at Dan, she looked a lot older than Dan. Doesn't really matter, it's just an observation.
Yay, Blabgirl. I'm not quite ready to let her use her given name, yet.
OT-English novelas-UA--Did you watch The Killing on A&E? They promised one whole show in one season that had a beginning, middle and end. The end was disappointing to me, but it had some great character development.
I don't think it was natural for Luzma to be burning her wedding photo. It's not as if Pablo did anything to hurt her. (Augustina should burn hers, of course.) I think it would be more natural for Luzma to be putting it away in a box in the top of the closet.
I can't wait to find out where Dan has "hidden" the photo with Cam.
I hunger for the "Crowns and Gowns" productions that the BBC used to do when I was in college...
Kelly
And then we'll all be ready for the happy ending. :)
It's weird, but Sylvia Navarro has very prominent veins in her forehead and there are scenes when Camila is supposed to be stressed out where they bulge even more than usual. Of course, these are superficial facial veins, NOT anything like an artery inside the brain, but it does make her appear vulnerable (to me, at least) Miriam appears sturdy as a horse and I bet we'll see fireworks from her tonight, as well.
I loved The Killing. It ended up being two seasons—though I think it was originally supposed to be one.
UA: Totally agree with you re: A&E. Used to be you could count on 100% PBS/BBC/Masterpiece, etc quality programming on that station.
Kelly re: Dan’s hiding ability. Laugh out loud moment.
Maybe Dan had the pendant under that blanket he brought Gussy and that's why it was out in the open. Or maybe, as many have suggested, he subconsciously wants to get caught...
For some reason, I thought that Teresa looked especially gorgeous. What happened, I always thought her pretty, but even more so now.
Took a while to find her name, Sandra Kai, but not much else. That will probably change.I think people will want to know more about her. Someone said she is Mex & Asian, interesting looks.
I too loved "The Killing," but like you was disappointed in the ending. I liked the story line and the character development.
Although I always enjoy your comments and your input, and II must admit that it' was great to see that you could trust someone else opinion.
.
On the whole, I've been amazed at the civil tone here. To have this kind of polite multilog without a closed membership and active moderator with the power to bar bad actors (and the need to exercise that power daily) is very rare.
For one used to the rough and tumble of the typical internet discourse, fueled by anonymity, a need to develop a very thick skin, and the temptation to reply in kind, old habits can be hard to break.
But even when the words are polite, I think that there can be some tension arising from a move from "I don't like x about character y" to (a possibly implied) "if you don't agree that characteristic x is reprehensible or if you can't see how wrong/bad/mean/nasty character y really is, well then there must be something wrong with you, too."
That is a hazard that can crop up whenever someone expresses a firm opinion about anything. These are melodramas, and the characters are often, even in this excellent telenovela, something of charactatures, and thus invite strong opinions. Because the AB characters are more finely drawn than most, however, once we move beyond Dio, Isa, and Leo, it is not always so obvious that a criticism of one of the characters wouldn't translate to a criticism applicable to the real world.
So, while I have noticed that, at times, there can be an edge to the conversation, I hope that those occasions won't overwhelm the otherwise remarkable positivity that I think predominates here.
For my part, I'll continue to try to be, mostly, a cranky lurker, muttering to myself, and avoid poisoning the public well with excess negativity.
