Amores Verdaderos #156 Wed 6/19/13 Everything my aunt said about you is true!

Did something happen tonight?  It must have been when I was dozing.

This was a night of anticlimactic revelations, of girls behaving badly, of old guys behaving worse, of crappy gifts and weird funeral customs.

It all starts out pleasantly enough.  Nikki tells Guzmancito, as they lie in bed together, that she's decided to take up modeling again.   Two salaries are better than one.  Maybe they could even afford a car.  Guzmán is all for her working though he intends to shoulder the costs of the household.

Adriana and Joan are, perhaps less pleasantly, in bed together.  (Their particular Lounge Lizard tune plays in the background so we know no good can come of this coupling.)  He wants her to stay the night.

Beatriz and Santino are getting together the papers they will need to get married.

Despite Joan's urging, Adri gets dressed to go back home.  She doesn't want to get used to waking up with him.

José Ángel finds Vikki in her studio and reports on his conversation with Candelaria.  Cande wasn't the woman with Aníbal when Vikki's mother died.  Not only that, Aníbal was definitely not Cristina's father.  Whew.  Vikki is relieved.  It would be terrible (fatal) if she and Cristina had been sisters.  JA goes her one better:

Si Cristina y tú fueran hermanas, tú y yo jamás podríamos estar juntos.
(If you and Cristina were sisters, you and I could never be together.)

[Patio gang: How many things are wrong with this picture?]

Guillo dreams of his father who is in heaven, that is Leo, formerly known as the Low.  Dream Leo urges Guillo to behave well for his mom, his grandparents and for Santino, a good man who will be a good father to him.

Adriana is shocked to hear that Aníbal and Candelaria are tying the knot and will soon be AnyCandy.  It will be hard for Nikki to assimilate the news.  And it won't be easy for Lili either...

Or maybe it will.  Lili doesn't blink at the AnyCandy announcement.  She knew they were sweethearts, she tells her dad.  She doesn't know much else, not even whether Any met Candy before she got married [cough cough] or after Cristina's father died [cough cough.  Water, please!]  Lili's pretty happy about it but the Angel is worried about the fallout from this marriage.

Vikki is awakened from her sweet (and I do mean sweet) dreams by her sweet daughter bearing a pink rose and a big smile.  Nikki came to pick up her laptop and her modeling book.  She's going to make the rounds of the agencies to find a job.
[Oh dear.  We know how that is likely to play out.  When is Estéfano coming back from Switzerland?]

NoblePaula, formerly known as PaulaToo, assures Candelaria that she is happy for her.   Imminent death has changed her priorities.  Now she cares about the happiness of her children and grandchildren (and not the approval of a sour old megalomaniac, though she doesn't say this exactly).

I guess Guillo remembered his dream and told it to Bea because she tells it to Santino. And Santino is delighted that Guillo is thinking of him as a father now.

Since Francisco and Nikki are also getting married, Bea thinks maybe they can have a double wedding.  Santino knows Francisco would be fine with it but he's not so sure about Nikki.  Bea says that  Nikki is different now -- why not even the shadow of that once arrogant girl remains…

Of course Bea can't see what sure looks like more than a shadow of that arrogant girl as she stands in the Balvanera foyer while a grinning Polita scrapes and bows.

Speaking of arrogance, Aníbal's voice sounds behind her.  He assumes she has been tamed  and is coming back home to play by his rules.  Nikki sets him straight:

"I'm just here to pick up my things, grandfather".

"So I'm not your tatito now," he muses.

Neither is she his princess, answers Nikki.  He tells her things could be as they were before.

"You mean if I do your bidding?" replies Nikki.

Lili, clutching a folder, runs excitedly towards Aníbal.   She wants him to check her plans for the opening of the Nursery.  This is news to Nikki.  Aníbal explains that he bought the property and Liliana will be running it.

"Don't tell me you've adopted la Rupi as your substitute granddaughter" snarks Nikki.

Lili snaps back loudly and angrily: "¡No te metas conmigo!" (Don't mess with me!)

Nikki is astonished.  Francisco is treated as hired help but this tipa raises her voice in the house as if she were a Balvanera and Aníbal says nothing!

"Things have changed", he tells her.

Lili and Nikki trade barbs but Nikki draws the first blood by reminding her diminutive enemy that it is Nikki whom Guzmán loves.

When Nikki stalks off and leaves Lili fuming, Aníbal strokes her hair and comforts her.  He tells her things will be getting better and better for her; he can't say the same for Nikki.

Guzmán is turned down for the job he was sure was his.  They tell him Meta Imagen accused him of abuse of confidence. (He fell in love with the person he was protecting.)
Screwed!

Nikki is still waiting for her taxi in the Balvanera kitchen when Liliana walks in.  The two start bickering again --

He loves me!

But not for long!

-- and then Lili grabs the taller girl and easily subdues her in a painful Aikido hold.

"¡Suéltame!" shouts Nikki.  "Let go of me!"

Vikki and José Ángel come running and order Lili to release Nicole.  The Angel is angry -- he didn't teach his daughter Aikido so she could go around hurting people.

Now Nikki is really upset.  Why does Liliana have to keep sticking her nose into her relationship with Frankie?  And now she's her grandfather's favorite.  Even her mother seems to be on her side.

Lili looks decidedly bitchy and unrepentant.  Nikki's face is tear-stained.  JA and Vikki are troubled.

At the spa in Morelos, Kendra grieves her tía Puchis in her own way with Espanto at her side.  But duty calls.  Soon she will have to go back to the city and teach Nelson Brizz to hate his older daughter.

In one room of the mansion, Vikki tries to convince Nikki to dial down the hostility toward Lili.  AnyCandy is a done deal and they are all going to have to live with it.

In another room, Arriaga has the same conversation with Lili.

Nobody gives an inch.  At the end, Nikki swears she'll hate that little pipsqueak for the rest of her life.  And Lili swears she'll hate that snobby Nicole Brizz for the rest of her life.
[ok, writers. Are we done with this conversation now?  We get it.  Neta.  ¿Captas?]

Francisco sits at an outdoor café and worries about how he'll tell Nikki he didn't get the job.  And he wonders why Nelson Brizz wanted to meet him here.

He doesn't have to wait long for an answer.  Nelson, with Salsero hovering in the background, whips out his checkbook.  How much will it take to make Frankie forget all about his daughter?

Lili, Nikki and Aníbal walk down the front steps of the mansion toward a spanking new pick-up truck with a big pink bow on top.  It's a gift for Liliana, explains Aníbal.  Lili squeals delightedly and runs right to it.

"Did you do this to humiliate me?" asks Nikki.  Aníbal denies that was his intention.  But she was a princess before and she left to become Cinderella.  Now she's paying the price for her recklessness (mala cabeza).

Guzmán tears up Nelson's check.  He doesn't need his money.  He gets up and walks away while Nelson calls impotently at his back:  "You'll be sorry!  It won't last!  Time will prove me right!"
["What a putz" mutters someone on the Patio.]

Nikki tells off Aníbal:  She's happy to give up his money for Francisco's love.   She needs nothing from him.  She's going to get a job and she'll be happy at the side of the man she loves.

Now Nikki turns to Lili and once more draws blood:
"Aníbal can spend his millions on you but you'll never have the man you want, Chaparriana!"

Arriaga and Vikki arrive in time for Vikki to hear Nikki's last dig.  She asks her daughter not to insult Lili anymore.  "She was asking for it," says Nikki.
[No kidding.  She really was.]

"Enjoy your truck!" she tells Lili.

And at Aníbal she aims this parting shot:
Ahora empiezo a creer que todo lo que dice mi tía Adriana de ti es verdad.
(Now I'm beginning to believe that everything that my Aunt Adriana says about you is true.)

Arriaga has had a chance to size up the truck and now tells Lili that he doesn't want her to accept the gift.

Vikki is proud of Nikki for standing up to her grandfather.  Nikki now realizes that Aníbal's  affection is conditional and he withdraws it when you don't bend to his will.  Vikki is concerned that the situation may affect Nikki's health.  But Nikki assures her it's all under control:  "Tú fresh y yo cool."  The Ikki's walk together towards the taxi which has just arrived.

José Ángel feels the truck is too much for his daughter.  But Aníbal says it is really for the Nursery.
[What a crappy gift.  His business.  His truck.  Lili doesn't even know how to drive.  As Julia asked yesterday: Why indeed hasn't someone pushed this guy down the stairs already?]

Nelson is back at Meta Imagen whining on the phone to Kendra that Guzmán refused his check.   Kendra is getting a cemetery pedicure, apparently, but she takes a moment to encourage Nelson in his idiotic plans.  He is touched by her understanding -- especially at a time like this.  He knows how much she loved her tía Puchis.  Salsero has trouble keeping his game face on.  He wonders what that zorra is up to now.

Since Lili doesn't drive, Aníbal says her assistant will have to drive the truck for now.  Has she found someone?  Lili explains that she has hired  Roy Pavía  on a trial basis.

We get a glimpse of Roy formerly el Rollero and now el Jardinero snoozing on Oscar's couch among his gardening books.
[Is this supposed to show laziness or industry?  Who knows.]

Aníbal supposes that tenista Roy doesn't know diddly about the care of plants.  Lili acknowledges that.  She's giving him a chance -- he's having problems with his parents right now and he needs a job.  Aníbal wags his finger:  "If his work is unsatisfactory, hire someone else."  Lili agrees.  She thanks him for trusting her.

As Aníbal walks to his own waiting car, he vows to find out just why Roy Pavía wants to work at the Nursery.

Vikki and Arriaga are back inside the house.  Vikki feels a little better because of the conversation she had with Nikki before she left.  Arriaga apologizes for Lili's behavior.  Vikki worries that all this conflict may separate them.  But Arriaga tells her that he and Vikki will always be together.
[Their song plays and we on the Patio are somewhat reassured, even if there is a bit of últimas semanas turbulence up ahead.]

Lili knocks and enters the room.  Aníbal wants Arriaga to drive the (damn) truck to the  Nursery.  He'll do that but first he forces a not entirely heartfelt apology out of Lili.

Vikki accepts Lili's words very graciously.  Because of AnyCandy, they will be like family and she hopes the girls will get along better.

Francisco is applying for another job, this time using his New York position as a reference and not mentioning Meta Imagen at all.  There are no higher echelon jobs available at the moment but there is something available at a lower level.  They need security personnel for a series of concerts.  Frankie is fine with that -- he just needs work.  But a moment later he is told he can't have the job after all.  It requires experience in Mexico and Frankie has only worked outside the country.  Screwed again!

Avances:
Will Adriana crack Candelaria open like a walnut?
Will Balzac be back?
Will Bad Lili wear those awful leggings until the bitter end?

Loved your recap, NovelaMaven, your subtle tongue in cheek approach is just right for this story; loved your observations of Kendra, "Grieves ...in her own way." Loved your puzzlement as to why no one has pushed Anibal down the stairs.
I thought that Vikki and Jose were actually considering Cristina might be Anibal's daughter, but you cleared that up for me.
You'd think that they would all stop sharing stuff with ol' Anibal todavía.
someone remind me how many weeks are "Ultimas Semanas" in the TN timezone.

NovelaMaven:

Wonderful, funny, succinct recap! I too am wondering why Anyballs hasn't taken a trip down the stairs! Also like the pairing of AnyCandy, lol.

Isn't it funny how the girls have switched places? Lili is becoming more like Nikki and Nikki, well she isn't quite Lili but she isn't the same Nikki anymore, but she still insults!

Lili didn't have to keep Nikki in that akido hold, that was more out of spite, and ay yi yi, she still has that obsession about Frankie! She needs to let that go already!Frankie is neva gonna love her like Nikki y punto. She is so very rude too! What happened to our sweet little Disney Lili? She must have taken a vacation!

Nikki and her mouth needs to stop too. I understand her anger, but She still isn't mature enough to handle this situation with finesse. I understand her anger at old Anyballs too, and it does seem as if he is replacing her with Lili. But Nikki is smart and now knows what is really behind those blue tinted glasses. Too bad Nikki told Anyballs she will be looking for a job, I bet he blocks her from getting one.

Anyballs is one piece of work! Pitting one granddaughter against the other. And he wonders why no one gets along! Duh! He is the biggest walking hypocrite eva! And as far as Roy goes, Anyballs should know his 'rents, well at least his Papa is as bad as Anyballs, as far as withholding the funds go!

I really worry for Ms Vikki and the Angel. Lili is so neva gonna let that happen. Nikki almost spilled the beans in that foyer! Angel ought to tell Lili and let her have her temper tantrum. Lili is the only clueless one, and everyone around her knows already. This will not be good.

The Pau has come a long way. I am really liking the person she is becoming, but she needs to give Cande some good advice about Any. Cande probably wouldn't listen though.

Poor Frankie he can't win for losing. Maybe he'll find another sort of job. I hated FF trying to buy him off ala the Kendho way. When Frankie refused the money, why didn't FF have the lightbulb moment, that maybe, just maybe the Ho is lying about Frankie? Nah, not so much. I did have to laugh at Dances, trying not to laugh. He had a really hard time keeping a straight face, lol.

NovelaMaven: If last night was somewhat short on storyline, your recap was full, bursting with delightfully hilarious comments. The recap was simply stellar.

"...of girls behaving badly, of old guys behaving worse, of crappy gifts and weird funeral customs" had me smiling in appreciation. Superb! Also loved "AnyCandy" and "sour old megalomaniac" among many others.

While critical of Nikki in the past, I felt for her last night. The realization of exactly who and what her beloved grandfather has been fully exposed. The cold hard reality of his cruelty must be devastating. Considering she was hit with not only Cande becoming part of the family (along with Lili), being "Lilihandled" into that headlock and seeing Lili gifted with that ostentious truck, she comported herself fairly well. I could not blame her in this instance for playing the "Francisco loves me" card. Lili deserved it - she needs to get over her delusion about Frankie pronto.

NovelaMaven, I did not catch that JA told Vicky they couldn't be together if she were Cris' sister, so thank you for relating that. It isn't surprising, I'm sure many of us feel that that is going to be an uncomfortable hurdle for both of them.

And Santino...he and Bea are going along planning their future unaware of several anvils in the background, plotting their moment to strike...

Francisco should go to Vicky and tell her he's being blackballed. Someone needs to intercede.

Has Kendra ever held her daughter? Not sure why I'm surprised by such callousness from a thieving, lying, conniving murderess but...

We are due for an Anibal free episode. Agree with you and eMarie that a nice trip down the stairs might be in order. Perhaps he and Odette can recuperate together??

"Will Adriana crack Candelaria open like a walnut?" I don't know NovelaMaven. Looks like high drama tonight!

Thanks again. It was marvelous.

Diana

Madelaine: Our comments crossed. You hit the nail on the head with Anibal's "Pitting one granddaughter against the other". Their "fire" was burning hot enough without his adding the extra fuel, right? ;0

Diana

Hah! I steal a line from Julia (Why hasn't anyone pushed Aníbal down the stairs yet?) and it turns out to be everyone's favorite!

I was just went back and tweaked the recap to give credit where credit it due. Thanks, Julia!

Emarie, by my reckoning we have 15 episodes to go, at least three weeks.

Mads, I don't like to say "I told you so" (well I do, actually. Just ask Mr. Maven) but I did predict that Lili and Nikki would switch places. Okay, I'm only gloating because it is so very rare that I am right about anything. :D

Diana, "Lilihandled" is perfect!

Thanks, ladies. It's so nice to wake up to your kind and clever comments.

NovelaMaven:

I did remember that you predicted that, about Lili and Nikki switching places. I remembered it as soon as I saw the first confrontation and Anyballs giving that truck to Lili. You were spot on, lady! I never would have imagined this happening. The fights yes, but Anyballs gifting the one and ignoring the other, meh, not so much! You go girl : )

Diana:

Yes, he sure did add fuel to the fire didn't he? I don't think he knows exactly what he has started here, but I think he will regret what he has done at some point, maybe, could be, oh, heck he needs a nice toss down those stairs : )

ostentatious truck. Sigh. No spell check.

Diana

NovelaMaven - Thank you for the recap!

I'm all in favor of some 'escaleracide'.

"Si Cristina y tú fueran hermanas, tú y yo jamás podríamos estar juntos."
Really? REALLY? REALLY??? That is about as idiotic a rationale as one's entitlement to do *equis* … "porque yo soy hombre. JA, were you hit upside the head with the dumb stick?

And yet, our galán turns around and shows great intelligence when he tells Lili she cannot accept the truck from Anibal.

Speaking of Anibal, have we ever seen him at the top of a staircase??? Methinks he knows better...

I think JA is starting to connect the dots, even though he wants to stay in 'DeNile.'

"Will Bad Lili wear those awful leggings until the bitter end? " LOL!!~!

One of those fade in/fade out scenes to/from commercial showed Lili making some real crazy eyes toward Guzman. Creeped me out.

I felt for JA when he told Lili he didn't want her to accept the truck and Anibal overrode him with it's for the business. He walked off without responding.

When Lili came to the library to tell JA that Anibal wanted him to drive the truck to the nursery, Vikki was trying to make peace by saying they would all be family soon. Lili walked off without responding.

I do know that using a martial art on someone like Nikki, who is clearly not a threat, is considered being a bully in that circle and is not tolerated. JA did not address that when he clearly should have.

Maybe Guzmancito and Nikki should just to to the States. It would clearly solve the employment problem.

NovelaMaven,

"Did something happen tonight?"

Well, yes, and the way you replayed it for us is hilarious.

"...Kendra grieves her tía Puchis in her own way..."

I can't stop laughing, connecting your words with the images on the screen. Excellent.

I thought that Nikki and Ratiana were hysterically funny last night. They are even more fun to watch than Nikki and Guzmán together.

Leo is now a good angel (in heaven?)... who would have guessed?

Nelson wasn't quite as much fun last night as he was the night before... I'm moving back over to Odette's table.

Carlos

NovelaMaven,

Thank you for an awesome recap to a not awesome episode. I love this TN but the pacing seems really inconsistent. And right now all the villains seem to be at the spa (Odette and KendHo) which, quite frankly, makes for a boring TN. Don't want to hear about supporting characters wedding plans or Guillos dreams about Leo!? It was bad enough watching Leo alive but as an angel? FF

Loved: [Is this supposed to show laziness or industry? Who knows.] and all your clever asides. How you consistently spin gold out of this drivel is beyond me!!

Thank you again, NM. Your recaps always brighten my day!

Katy

ITA that the pace of last night was all over the place, but you recap was a funny delight NM.

I'm not excusing Lili's aikido hold on Nikki, but Nikki did start it with the insults, giving Lili a little shove on her way to the kitchen, and then telling Lili to bring it on when Lili warned her to quit provoking her. She knows Lili can take her. How many times does the "dwarf" (as Nikki calls her to her face) have to put a beatdown on her before she realizes maybe she shouldn't ask for a beatdown? I'm just saying. Unless she spent some time those four months away taking self-defense lessons, she shouldn't poke the little bear.

Anibal continues his usual despicable behavior by pitting his granddaughters against each other. We have seen too much of him lately, but I fear this will continue to be the case in the final weeks.

Thanks, NOvelamaven, for that fast and snappy recap. The highlight for me was "AnyCandy." As in "No Anyoldballs, you are not going to get any candy. ".
As for LIli and Nikki...exhibits A and B for why I stopped teaching in a senior high school
And, it warms my heart to see a mother who has just given birth to a premature baby who has undergone dangerous heart surgery...relaxing at a spa. Que the hell?....
However, what is mainly on my mind is the hopefully upcoming return of VIncente. Here's the scenario I've come up with.....Adri and Asscot are at a table at an outdoor cafe. Suddenly, VIncente passes by, Adri and Vincente's eyes meet. She jumps up spilling her mojito on Asscot's ascot. VIncente leaps over the small hedge separating the tables from the sidewalk. They kiss. Viewerville is lost in the strains of Etta James's classic "At Last." A great big vertical kiss that wants to be horizontal. Asscot weeps and dries his tears with...his ascot. THe end....for Asscot. Obviously, I have too much time right now. ....Susanlynn, back to the reality of hanging up the laundry outside

Thank you NovelaMaven---A great job

Their particular lounge lizard tune plays in the background.

Will soon be AnyCandy

Kendra is getting a cemetery pedicure.

NM---Some of the lines that made me laugh.

Only one comment from me right now
and what could it be?
Well Lilihandled of course. As you all know, I have never been at the
"Brat Nikki" table. I have always stated that My viewpoint of the spoiled rich brat would change if she did. I must confess that I was starting to be won over to the "Princess Nikki" side. I had always liked Lili, not many others did, and I had aso stated that I would like to see Nikki and Lilli become friends. Odds on that happening??? The turn of events are surprising. The once Balvanera
Princess is now not so much and the once lowly little flower girl is now gaining favor. Anyway I have to ask---could it be karma? I mean that Nikki's bratty past is now catching up with her--maybe described as payback. On the other
hand Little Orchid who almost no one on the patio liked--OH! she's to goody, goody, mockenly a "Disney
Princess." Could it be that good karma is catching up to her as she is now gaining favor and being elevated to Balvanera status? Don't get me wrong, I still want them to be friends but Nikki is going to have curb her very sharp toung and Lili will have to forget about the Guzmancito as the love of her life.
Let's hope that both of those things happen.
the gringo

tongue---sorry
the gringo

Gringo...I have always liked LIli and nasty, spoiled Nikki has always brought back too many memories of entitled rich girls I've taught. LIli has had a tough time. She lost the mother she was so close to , and her beloved papa is too busy being head over heels in teenage love with Ms. Vikki to spend time with her. In addition, the rich girl who has been bullying her and insulting her at every turn, not only marries the guy she likes , she then divorces him and takes up with the guy LIli is infatuated with. Her nemesis seems to have everything..the two guys , rich parents and granddad, beautiful clothes, a car, a mansion. LIli, on the other hand, has lost so much..her home, her mother, her father's attention (not his love). I haven't commented much about Little Lily because I know most folks here are not fans, but I've always felt sorry for her. I think her attitude change can be blamed on listening to crazy Polita and the bitterness she feels after her world started crumbling and she lost so many parts of that world.Jmho

Susanlynn! Looks like I got back just in time! Snap out of it! Don't let these people(no offense to the sensitive people with feelings) influence you. Stop being all emotional about Lilly. Go hang around some men.

Cynderella

Susanlynn and Gringo:

I agree somewhat with your assessment of Lili, but what bothers me the worst is that Anyballs has cut off Nikki completely, no moola, no nothing from him until she caves, while on the other hand, here is "sweet innocent Lili" getting all these bennies, Nikki used to have, so why isn't Lili questioning this? She would have when she was Disney Lili about why Anyballs all of a sudden can't do enough for her. Why isn't Ms Vikki or Angel for that matter trying to find out what is going on here? Cande knows and I think she isn't okay with this.

As far as Nikki goes, yeah she has that way acid tongue, but did Lili have to stoop to her level? Nikki wasn't physically threatening her, so why the akido hold as Vivi said? Was that really necessary? Why couldn't Lili have been the bigger person and not let Nikki goad her as she does? Lili well knows Nikki's weaknesses as Nikki knows Lili's.

I really wish Angel and Ms Vikki would sit the two of them down and have a frank talk. They all need to clear the air, tell Lili exactly what is going on and then let the chips fall as they may, about Angel and Ms Vikki that is. It's long past time for that.

And this obsession of Lili's with Frankie, how many times has Angel and how many times has Frankie told her it's neva gonna happen? Lili needs to stop the obsession before it destroys her. That break with them showing Lili oogling Frankie is way creepy. I think it will be awhile before Lili gives up the ghost of Frankie. Sorry rant over!

Novela Maven! How dare you teach us the Spanish word for screwed and then NOT use it! You had the opportunity to write twice in this recap.

Cynderella

P.S. I love your recaps.

I figure the writers are building up the tension between Nikk-Iana so that when their half-sisterhood is revealed, all hell will break loose and Viewerville will be seated at the Patio going... "eh, we are so not surprised over this explosion."

Cynd - do you mean "fregado"?

In episode 141, Miss Novela Maven taught us that(revolcándose) is the word for "screwing".

Cynderella

Doris- They aren't half sisters. They are cousins, who will also soon be step-sisters. They both need to chill out. All this drama between them is getting old. Vicky and JA just need to drop the bomb about their relationship on Lili, and then go off to the islands for a few months and let their daughters fight it out in a cage match.

I think Vicky and JA think Anibal is just trying to impress Cande by being attentive to Lili, although JA is in denial that Anibal was Cris' father. And Lili and Anibal having been building a relationship with each other from long ago, even when Cris was alive and Anibal didn't know she was his daughter. He also had a special relationship with Cirs without knowing she was his child. Some of the few times Anibal showed his human side.

Lili has to earn her gifts through work, while Nikki got it all from Tatito without any work or effort, just for being pretty. In both cases, his gift giving is conditional.

Vivi:

I had to laugh at the cage match, but totally agree with what you said, he has been helping Lili and even Cris from way back ; )

Thank you, NovelaMaven! Great recap.

I was wondering why Guzmi didn't use Vicky directly as a reference. Why list MetaImagen and risk them getting someone who doesn't like you on the phone? If he just listed Vicky, Salsero (his direct manager as head of security, right?), and whoever he worked for in NY as references, that should be good and not give anyone a reason to talk to Anyballs or Nil-sense.

I'm glad Nikki has finally figured out that her Tatito is no saint and only loves people as long as they're obeying his orders.

Jose Angel really should tell Lili he and Vicky are together. Since everyone else knows, she's bound to find out somehow. Lili's being an unreasonable brat anyway; why not just throw that in there since she's festering already?

Cyn...Ha...Maybe you're right. I am a little emotional about Little Lily, perhaps because I can relate to a tiny brunette better than I can to a spoiled , tall blonde. I am ashamed to admit that I would be tempted to use my aikido skills on some people...if I had any aikido skills. Also, I'm back home from vaca doing laundry and dishes and feeling more working class Lily than trust fund Nikki. As for getting around some men, I suppose I could drive the few miles to the local golf course where Hub is playing in a golf tournament with his buds and hang out..offer to drive the golf cart, but somehow I do not feel that I would be welcomed. Therefore, it's just me here on the patio (my real patio..not THE PATIO) avoiding the jobs lurking and waiting to pounce on me if I go inside.Madelaine, I just cannot feel sorry for Nikki. She's older and was raised in such a privileged environment and was nasty to Lily from the very start for no reason. Poor little rich girl...sorry..I do not feel sorry for her...except for having nil for a dad and Anyoldballs for an Abuelo. P.s.Cyn... DId you read my scenario on the Adri/VIncente meeting? Following your wise previous advice, Adri will be wearing a dress or skirt...not capris.....Susanlynn, still wearing capris

Great comments Susanlynn--Madelaine
and Vivi---I love the comment section. I just hope those two [Nikki & Lilli] don't kill each other before it's all over.

Oh! and one more thing---I add my vote for Anyballs to go down the stairs. He's caused so much trouble
with all his manipulations.
the gringo

Such wonderful comments this afternoon.

gringo and Susanlynn, you aren't alone. I have always liked Lili tremendously and still am but wishing fervently she would change her recent antics and chidish behavior. Along with Madelaine, I wish she'd shown much more restraintlast night.

I've been far less enamoured of Nikki but as with anyone who receives a series of crushing blows simulateously, did feel badly for her (pretty much a first) last night.

Vivi, you put things in perspective once again: "Lili has to earn her gifts through work, while Nikki got it all from Tatito without any work or effort, just for being pretty. In both cases, his gift giving is conditional."

Julia, we are thinking alike. I also wondered why Francisco wasn't giving Vicky as his reference.

Diana

Yes, unconditional love is sought after, but as has been notes,ANyballs seems only capable of conditional love. The I will only love you if you do as I say. Today's quote in my local newspaper made me think about these characters. "Remember that everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something, and has lost something."...H. Jackson Brown Jr. Let's see...ANyballs is afraid his family finding out his secrets.....he loves power and being large and in charge.....and he is losing control of his daughters and granddaughters. Now, let's do nil. He is afraid of being divorced and thrown off the gravy train...he loves him some young, pretty, morally bankrupt models... He lost his moral compass a long time ago...if he ever had one. Next ?

Cyn - Ah! THAT meaning of 'screwing,' the ole "rolling in the hay."

Vivi - ... Gah. I was close. Step-sisters. Got it.

One more thing before it gets to late and we start to move into tonight-Friday's episode.

I must admit that I was thrown for a loop last night. I expected to see Nikki and Lili fighting but I was totally unprepared to see Leo in Heaven. I thought that we had suffered enough and were finally thru with him. Heaven?? Wasn't he banned or not allowed there. Did he sneek in the back door or bribe someone to let him in? Just being facetious, but I guess that every little boy thinks or wants to think that his dad is good. As I said, that part threw me last night. QUE!

I didn't realize that they had two different words for screwed. Sorry, everyone!

Cynderella

It was a little boy's dream who wants a father. There is NO WAY that man made it to heaven.

Cynderella

Thank you, Maven, for this snarky recap! :)

I don't condemn a certain amount of violence, and in the first part of the show I didn't mind it when Little Orchid kicked Nikki's butt, because Neta always deserved it.

However, in my opinion yesterday Liliana misused her aikido skills, and she broke the martial arts code of honor. It wasn't like she was a defenseless young girl mistreated by the big bad bratty Balvanera. I cut Lili some slack because she lost her beloved mother, and Roy (whom I like much) betrayed her, so she's very vulnerable emotionally, but she isn't as powerless and poor as she used to be. Actually, thanks to Fairy Godfather Aníbal, now she's in a better social position than Nikki, who has been exiled from the Garden of Balvanera Eden. They're equals. And it wasn't like Neta provoked her that much that even the Dalai Lama would've lost his calm.

Lili desperately wanted to win their fight, and although she's intelligent and educated, she can't compete with Neta's creative and deadly cruel verbal skills, which she chiseled through the years of being a bratty princess. So Lili decided to annihilate and humiliate Nikki physically. That was very desperate and sad, and it reeked of jealousy and bitterness.

Nikki should stop being so cruel towards Lili, and Lili should get rid of these ugly feelings. But they're pitted against each other by Tatito.

Cyn...so true..The low one could only be in heaven in a little boy's dreams. In reality, we all know where he is ...and he appears nightly in pobrecita Bea's nightmares.

Aribeth- ITA about Lili and Nikki. It seems like Lili is spiraling out of control and no one is doing anything about it. JA should be figuring out what the heck is going on and do an intervention with his daughter.

When Nikki was going through her emotional crisis due to her low self esteem, which resulted in her eating disorder, lashing out, and lack of focus, it was all hands on deck to support and help her. The whole staff was tasked with looking out for her, especially Guzman, Tomi and Vicky coddled her, and she was taken to a shrink and a nutritionist.

Menawhile, Lili nearly burned up in a fire, lost her home, got her heart broken a few times, and lost her mother, and no one really even paused half a second to ask how she's doing. Just get on with working and studying and you'll be alright. Maybe she's not alright. And she sure as heck won't be alright when the truth of her origins comes out.

Vivi...I agree. We all know how much Big Angel loves LIli, but he is so lovestruck over Vikki that he's not paying attention to what is happening to LIli. Vikki is equally oblivious due to being under the big guy's spell. Is that Old SPice he's wearing or Love Potion Numero Nine ? Tia Adri is busy getting busy with Asscot, so she hasn't been spending much time with Lili. Bea is busy planning her wedding and celebrating the low one's exit from the planet. Sometimes those quiet flowers are the ones who suffer in silence and get into deep emotional waters and into trouble. I think that we'll have our happily ever after..Nikki eating pasta with the Guz and LIli and Royboy watering and planting the flowers. LIli and Nikki may ever be kissing cousins , but I'm sure that they'll both simmer down and get on with their lives and loves. However, I am not sure Abuelo will turn over a new leaf and let his family live their own lives. What these people need is a monkey. (Cross reference Corazon Indomitable)

Even her grandma took off almost as soon as they put Cris into the ground, and only recently came back. And now she's too wrapped up in her Anibal drama to be of any help with the Lili situation.

NM thanks for your wonderful recap. You covered last nights antics quite well.

I'm hoping Vicente shows up soon and saves Adriana.

Though Lili isn't perfect, I can have some type of feeling for her whereas I have no patience for Nikki. And while Lili went over the line, Nikki should not keep provoking her or as Vivi said poking the little bear.

In addition to "falling" down the stairs, Anibal needs to be revealed for the horrible man he is, and then go to jail. And once its clear why FF is still in the house, kick him w/no money. It's obvious Kendra will have a bad end but those two sexist idiots need real comeuppance.

NM--Brilliant as usual. Your title got us off on the right path--straight to the Patio of Disbelief for a spirited discussion of the Lili-Nikki-Anibal hijinks. Personally, I would like to blackball Lili from the Patio (we can re-vote in the ultimos capitulos, neta?).

Doris--Right with you on the HUH? because Cristina & Victoria are/were sisters, Big A & Vikki can't be together? What century is JA living in (if there ever was a century that prohibited this type of pairing).

Also, Doris, Anyballs is imune to escaleracide. He's more listo than we thought. Remember, he moved into a spare bedroom downstairs after his little "heart" problem (he has a bigger heart problem now with Lili & Nikki). Adri is occupying his upstairs bedroom. What else can we do to speed his demise? Change his glasses prescription so he bumps into things?

Carlos--That was Guillo's dream; not the Patio's. We the peeps know exactly where the Low one is roasting.

Anibal incorrectly thinks that Nikki will give up Guzmi after a time in the poorhouse and return contrite and remorseful to the fold. He's sure that if he keeps pushing the envelope, she'll cave. What an s.o.b.

More when I finish all the comments.

Ok, midway down. Mads: I think Lili's obsession with Frankie is still being fueled by Polita and now Anibal, promising her, that is promising her that Guzman will be hers since it's a passing fancy for Nikki.

Doris:

"Speaking of Anibal, have we ever seen him at the top of a staircase??? Methinks he knows better... "

Hah! But we do see him using the front steps outside the mansion. There ARE possibilities. Still, anyone who saw how that scary-eyed meanie Alfonsina ended up dandling her darling grandbabies on her bony knees in Passion Pits knows that some villains end up with a Get Out of Jail Card. Could Aníbal be one of those?

Teresita:
It's probably true that Frankie and Nikki would do very well outside of Mexico. But poor Frankie just recovered his family and I would hate to see him distance himself from them. And I like to think that the Ikki's are close to each other to support one another. We'll see, I guess.

Carlos:

You may not believe this but I SAW YOU last night slipping away from Nelson's table and edging ever so quietly toward's Odette's. Oh well. Can't blame you.

Katy:

"It was bad enough watching Leo alive but as an angel?"

Wicked but true. So far we've had the dream, the drawing. What's next? Will we get the verse version after Vikki gives a poetry workshop for children?

Vivi:

You are a skillful apologist for Liliana. I see things slightly differently. She has suffered serious losses in the past year but she is bolstered by a secure, happy childhood. She was raised by two parents who nurtured her, taught her all kinds of things, saw to her material needs. She had a loving grandmother. So she came to her challenges with a certain amount of inner strength and resilience.

Nikki has a wonderful mother but has grown-up feeling not quite good enough to please her philandering, oblivious father and her bullying grandfather. In spite of that, she also shows resilience and generosity.

No matter how Lili sees it, Nikki didn't steal anyone or anything from Lili. She never played tricks on her or told lies to hurt her. But Lili HAS lied, HAS attacked Nikki's relationship with Guzmán, and HAS attacked her physically.

But one thing I will concede: Nikki needs to stop poking the little bear. She has to understand how hurtful her words can be.

Cyn--Revolcandose in espanol is "screwing," strictly in the physical horizontal meaning.

NovelaMaven – Lucky me to get to read your recap after a nutty day at the office. Thanks for helping me chill. “AnyCandy” – lol. “NoblePaula” –aaaah, how sweet.

Glad to see some folks on the patio giving Lili some sympathy. Agree Lili was dead wrong to get physical with Nikki.

It was nice that Vickie didn’t go overboard about it cause seeing your kid get creemed by another in your own house just isn’t right. Hope Lili gets to use that Aikido on a real villain some day.

In addition to Nikki razzing Lili about Guzman, I think deep down Lili feels bad because she senses her dad and Vickie are together. Again last night, she almost walked in on them kissing.

It's ridiculous that AnyBalls and Nelson can block Guzman and Nikki from money and jobs when everybody knows the real talent at MetaImagen is Vickie. I hope Nikki goes to Estefano for work.

Julia & Diana--I think the potential employer was doing what any company would do, call the HR dept in the referencing dept. Francisco had no idea Anibal had already "fixed" the job references against him. Hopefully, he will tell Miss Vikki. He's on her good side.

Aribeth--Loved your Garden of Balvanera Eden.

Serves me right for not reading ALL the comments. Asked and answered by others ahead of me.

Susanlynn:

You are wasting your talents on us. You should be submitting manuscripts to Harlequin Romances. :D

Oh and I do love "Asscot"!

Gringo:

I feel like "the lowly little flower girl" is being set up for yet another fall. She's allying herself with the morally bankrupt Aníbal and offending the man who has loved and protected her all her life, Arriaga. Oh well. Unlike in real life, here we know it will all work out in the end.

Cynderella and Doris:

I am thrilled to see your interest in vocabulary. There are lots of ways to say "screwed" and "screwing" (two very different concepts) in Spanish. "Fregado" and "revolcándose" are a little on the vulgar side but not x-rated. I would give you a few stronger versions but I'm afraid I'd see myself quoted repeatedly her.

So why don't we just relax a nice "destornillador" (screwdriver) instead?

NM- Certainly not appologizing for Lili's behavior. What she did was wrong. But I know if someone had kicked my butt several times, and tells me to back off, I'm not going to keep spouting off on them. That's just dumb.

Nikki didn't experience her dad and Tatito's bad side until now. Up till now, she was their pampered and spoiled princess, and she would go over Vicky's head to get their approval for things Vicky disapproved of-- like switching career choices multiple times, and dropping out of school. The two of them made life easy for her. Of course, the kid of true love, with limits, that Lili got was way better for emotional growth. But Nikki wasn't suffering. She was taking advantage of it.

No matter what kind of string base your parents have provided for you, losing your mom at 18 is going to throw you for a loop. That's just hard, period. And no one has really addressed it with Lili. Cande is loving, but she has been distant (to hide her secrets).

That's "kind of true love" and "strong base".

Julia:

"Jose Angel really should tell Lili he and Vicky are together. Since everyone else knows, she's bound to find out somehow. Lili's being an unreasonable brat anyway; why not just throw that in there since she's festering already?"

Yes! I thought the same thing!

Aribeth:

"However, in my opinion yesterday Liliana misused her aikido skills, and she broke the martial arts code of honor."

So maybe Guillo should sit her down and go over the Secret Agent Honor Code with her. Off-camera, of course.

Karen:

Oh yes, by all means, Furry needs to get kicked out! Do you think he will end up taking care of Mia? If he does, I bet soft-hearted Vikki will make sure to take care of him.

Anita:

While I would go along with blocking Bad Lili from the Patio -- at least temporarily -- I fear such a move might meet with some resistance. Therefore I suggest placing her table way at the back, near the kitchen or over on the far side, near the restrooms and the exit.

Niecie:

"I think deep down Lili feels bad because she senses her dad and Vickie are together."

Good point. There's a lot of that going around -- people suspecting the truth (like Arriaga about who Cristina's father was) but refusing to acknowledge it.

Vivi:

Whether we accept the premise or not, I think the writers intend Nikki to be the classic "Poor Little Rich Girl" who is materially stuffed and emotionally starved. And her bulimia is the big badge of her suffering. She tells us again and again, in one way or another: I grew up with everything but I was never happy.

Even if Nelson and Aníbal always wore the velvet glove in dealing with her, she had to be aware, at some level, of the iron fist within.

She also internalized their macho views of women, so much so that they literally made her ill.

Ok..I was just meandering around THE PATIO, but I think LIL Lili needs some support , so I'll be sitting at her table..near the kitchen, restrooms, and exit...win, win, win. ..I'll be the first served, will have the restroom handy, and can leave quickly if I need to. ...susanlynn, making lemonade out if the patio lemons

Great recap NovelaMaven.

I don't have much to say that hasn't been said. However, I will say that I also understand where Lili is coming from. I don't think either her nor Nikki are behaving well when it comes to each other but I get both of their issues.

Last year for Lili in telenovelaland had a mom and a dad and a house in the country and she used to go to school with friends her age and possibly dreamed of finding her first love. Everything that happened since the novela started and that Vivi has already mentioned happened in such a short time. All those changes and all that hurt could affect anyone, especially a teenager.

I tend to see Nikki and Lili as the classical tv confrontation of the damaged bad girl with a good heart that turns into a great person and the typical good girl who falls from grace (it happens with male characters too). Audiences will always root for the bad girl or boy because every step forward seems to be a struggle and we can feel compassionate by it and they can be charming in their un-pc ways. Meanwhile, audiences are much harder on the good girls and guys who were too perfect to begin with so it was hard to connect with them and their fall feels like a needed leveling to take them off their pedestal. The original writers understood this reaction, that's why the Nikki character was their lead and not Lili.

Jarocha

Jarocha:

You describe the classic struggle perfectly as well as our likely reaction to it. What an excellent comment! Thank you.

Jarocha- Fabulous analysis. What does it say about those few of us who aren't willing to cut the bad girl/boy much slack? :)

Vivi: I don't know, maybe that those who can judge the bad boy or girl are familiar with the type in real life and know how much their shortcomings affect the people around them. Besides, in real life bad boys and girls tend to stay that way most of the time.

Of course, there are always viewers who will always prefer the good boys/girls or the bad boys/girls.

Jarocha

Jarocha...What an excellent analysis. I think I have a hard time emphasizing with Nikki because I came in contact with so many Nikki's when I taught in a high school. I feel sorry for Lili because she's had so many changes and losses lately and she's only 18...very young.

Juarever.
Can't stand either Lili or Nikki. Or Roy. Or Guzman. Or Polita. Or Vikki. Or Cande, Anibal, Nelson, Espanto or Kendra. Definitely not Guillo.
Love Adri and Bea, Salsero, Arriaga, Tomi and Opalina. And Balzac (he,he), Jean Marie and Stefano.
On the fence about Odette, Paula, Felipe. Oh, and G/Hilda.
Was crazy about Cris.
The Godfather? Meh!

That should be "empathize "...sorry

Jarocha, NovelaMaven, Aribeth, You exactly explained what I wanted to say about Nikki and Lili. I really am 100 percent in agreement with your analyses of their characters.
Added to this, for myself, I want to reiterate, I dislike physical violence and for me Lili was always too violent and more spoiled than Nikki. That sweet Disney country princess is just out of control.
For me, the verbal abuse she got from Nikki especially the last one regarding the love of Guzmancito/millions from Anyballs were more hurtful than her physical abuse of Nikki. So take a cue from Nikki, be more classy and hurt her with words. Don't turn out to be a real monster like Kendho. It doesn't become you.
So sorry I am just not too fond of Lilli try as I would want to.
