Monday, 10/19/15, Episode 85: Sebastian is a Jerk and Titina is a Crazy Beyotch- They Deserve Each Other
Part 1:
Antonio puts his foot in his mouth as he tries to defend himself from Natalia’s accusations about him being a cheater, just like Sebastian, by saying the thing with Sara was of no importance. 1) This doesn’t really improve Nat’s view of him; and 2) It totally hurts and ticks off Sara, who is eavesdropping on the other side of the door.
Sebas convinces Nat to come back into the apartment to listen to his excuses. He’s doing a poor job of it, when Titina starts blowing up his phone, and he refuses to answer. Nat grabs his phone, locks herself in a bedroom, calls the number, and hears Titina cooing to “Chebi, mi amor!” Nat has heard all she needed to hear. She hands the phone to Sebas, slaps him, tells him off, and rolls on out with her suitcase.
Unfortunately, there are no more free seats on flights out of San Gaspar, so she checks into a hotel and calls Isa to cry it out. They both agree that men are all the same (conveniently forgetting that Isa is doing the same thing) and Nat tells Isa about Antonio coming out of Sara’s apartment. Isa is ticked off, and calls Tonio for an explanation. He just happens to be with Sara at El Molcajete, apologizing with a huge bouquet of red roses for hurting her with that “of no importance” remark. He explains he was just trying to diffuse the situation with Nat, and tells Sara she is very important in his life. They discuss Sebas, and Sara thinks he got what he deserves. In fact, ANY person who gets involved with someone else when they already have a novia/o, should question if they really love their novia/o. Tonio agrees, and they both look like they are thinking hard about this. (Come on, kids! Think harder!) When Isa calls, Tonio is in no mood to argue about his neighborly behavior with Sara, and tells her that if she doesn’t like it, well, she doesn’t have to take it (i.e. she can end things). He hangs up on her, and we hear no more from Isa today.
Over in the plant, things are getting even more tense between Pepe and jumpy Nelson. Nelson mouths off at Pepe for blabbing to Rafa and butting into his life. Pepe has enough, and decks him! A fight breaks out between them, and they are separated by Ramon and another guy. Rafa finally gets them to stop when he says they will both be suspended. Rafa calls Tonio, who meets with the three privately and upholds the suspension ruling. They are both suspended for a week. Pepe apologizes for his behavior, while Nelson turns and walks out in frustration. Nelson calls Pedro to tell him of his suspension, but says he’s sure the tampering with the sensors he’s already done will not be discovered. Pedro is less that pleased. He calls Anselmo into his office and tells him to find a new mole at Conatrol. As for Nelson-- time to get rid of him! Yikes!
Serena’s boss calls her to get an update on Simons rocket. She claims that she did not yet meet with Simon because he’s out of town and won’t be back until the day after tomorrow. Simon arrives to her hotel room just then, and he gives her permission to see his rocket. As they leave her hotel, Serena gets something in her eye, and Simon tries to get it out. Unfortunately, Edwina happens to be walking by, and from her vantage point, it looks like Simon and Serena are smooching. Then Serena trips and Simon helps her, making them look close and cozy. Edwina’s heart breaks and she cries.
Simon shows Serena his rocket, and she is VERY impressed. So impressed, in fact, that she needs some more days to examine it before she’s satisfied.
Cheo surprises Sara as she’s leaving work, with her huge bouquet of red roses in hand. She lies that she bought them to use the petals for a dessert they are making tomorrow. Cheo wonders why she’s taking them home then. She lies that she’s taking them home to de-petal them. Cheo happily agrees to help and begins ripping off the flowers off the stems. LOL! Sara grimaces.
Once back in the apartment building for the evening, Tonio’s first stop is Sara’s door. Cheo answers, Tonio lies that he was looking for Simon, Cheo implies that he and Sara are getting busy and sends Tonio on his way. Cheo then lies to Sara that it was Jahovah’s Witnesses at the door, and then tries to get busy for real with her. Sara is not in the mood though, and they are interrupted by another knock on the door from Tonio. He somehow burned his arm while making his usual dinner sandwich (seriously!) and has come looking for aloe. Sara is happy to let him in to help. Cheo—not so much.
We finish the episode with Sebas and Natalia. After the first slap and rejection by Nat in the apartment, Sebas decides to give it a try in her hotel. He gets into her room by pretending to be room service. The door is open as they argue, and lurking Titina hears the whole heartbreaking conversation. Sebas refuses to leave, does a piss poor job of apologizing, then finally decides to come clean and tell Nat the WHOLE story of Titina—from the non-serious sex, all the way to the family and brothers who thought he was a real suitor, and then their revenge with the green paint. Nat listens and cries. Then she dumps his sorry, crying ass and kicks him out of her room and life, slamming the door on his way out. Titina then knocks on Nat’s door (Why? To rub salt into the freshly opened wound?), but Nat, thinking it’s Sebas, yells at Titi to go the hell away. When Titi gets home, her mother has had enough of her stalking Sebas, and tells her from now on, her brothers will be watching her night and day.
Sebas decides to try to get Nat back for a third time. Since lies and brutal honesty didn’t work, this time he decides to try romance. He enlists the help of two of the musicians in the apartment building and Bruno, who decides to come along for the hell of it. They sing “Perdoname” outside Nat’s hotel door, and she looks like she’s softening, until Titina calls her. Nat is enraged and drags Sebas into her room to talk to his lover. Bruno and the other guys think the music REALLY did its job.
Sebas tells Titina off, while at the same time begging Nat to forgive him. He hangs up on Titi, but she calls right back! Sebas decides to take off the gloves, and tells Titi that she was the worst mistake of his life and if she were the last woman on Earth, he’d have nothing to do with her. He hangs up again, and asks Nat if that’s what she wanted. It sure was. But she still doesn’t forgive him. He has always known that infidelity was unforgiveable to her. Sebas cries and says he’s nothing without her. Nat is in tears, but she is unmoved.
-End of episode.
Perdóname, si yo te hice sufrir
Si conocernos no te dejo vivir
Perdóname, te juro que te amo
A mi no me enseñaron
Otra forma de querer
Perdóname, si en algo te he fallado
Volvamos a intentarlo
No te quiero perder...
I appreciate every rocket joke that has been made, but I think this may be a work of rocket joke art:
"Simon shows Serena his rocket, and she is VERY impressed. So impressed, in fact, that she needs some more days to examine it before she’s satisfied."
I'm watching now and Edwina is breaking my heart.
I would like to add Lucita to the list :D I love how she makes everybody dance to her tune!
Gracias, Vivi! Como dice el dicho, thank you for the Monday recap :D
Wow, I swear Natalia slapped some of the green of Sebastian's face. I hope the chemical stuff was no less gentle. What? I'm mean. I admit it.
"They both agree that men are all the same (conveniently forgetting that Isa is doing the same thing)" ain't that the truth!
"Pepe has enough, and decks him!" Color me shocked. I did not see that coming.
OMG, the rocket jokes! Yes, well, one would want to make a thorough examination, and with a rocket that size, that's going to take some time. Well played, Vivi, well played!
"He somehow burned his arm while making his usual dinner sandwich (seriously!)" Yeah, I didn't get that either. And with all the condiments laid out, I wasn't thinking it was a grilled cheese.
"Finally decides to come clean and tell Nat the WHOLE story of Titina," which I'm glad, but did he really? Why do I feel like he glossed over some stuff. Though I'm with him on the fact that he couldn't get rid of her. Which is why he shouldn't have started anything in the first place!
Lol, Kat "como dice el dicho..."
I hope Nelson tells everyone the truth before Pedro has him bumped off.
OT- has anyone seen jlk elsewhere on the blog? Did she say she would be away and I forgot?
Arranged thematically and how ever it popped into my head. It felt fluffy today. Not filler, mind you. That’s a negative thing. I was very entertained. There just wasn’t a lot of plot movement.
Bonus: Recipe for Nieve de Pétalos de Rosa
Sebastian
Sebastian vows to Nat not to give up until she forgives him. That’s romantic when the guy is innocent. Here...not so much. Nat dumps his ass.
He leaves Nat’s room and lets Bruno know that the serenade was for naught. Bruno hands him the bottle of tequila. Sebas wants two bottles of tequila. It’s going to be a long night.
They take the meeting of the drunken He-men Women Haters Club to Bruno’s apartment. Anto hears the commotion and comes out of his apartment. He agrees to join Sebas in his woe. Anto takes a pity shot of tequila, but otherwise stays sober.
Sara comes out of her bedroom to investigate as well. We get the obligatory longing looks and touchy touchy.
Simon comes home and breaks up the party. (He’s coming from working with Serena. She needed him to explain in minute detail how his rocket works.)
Sensores
The next morning Sara is making chilaquiles. Simon mentions the whopper of a hangover Sebas must have and Sara gets the idea to bring chilaquiles to Sebas.
Sara takes the chilaquiles to Sebas, but he’s still in bed. Anto invites her in and asks if she wants to eat breakfast with him. A call from Rafa interrupts them. There’s a problem at the plant.
Unfortunately, they’ve lost even more gas than ever, despite what the sensors say. It’s a realy mystery. Anto and Rafa are both very worried that the plant will close.
Celos
Edwina thinks about seeing Simon with Serena. It upsets her. Magda arrives with Vlad and notes Edwina’s mood. Magda thinks Edwina is in love. Edwina claims she is just indignant that Simon has forgotten his promise to honor the memory of his wife.
Edwina marches over to Simon’s and tells him how disappointed she is in him. Simon tries not to laugh. It’s cute. He explains that Serena is an old friend from college and asks if Edwina could perhaps be jealous. Edwina gets her feathers ruffled and insists that she and Simon simply had a techno-scientific relationship. She sees him as an engineer and not a man. Simon gets his feathers ruffled and says he sees her as a bank teller and not a woman.
But Edwina’s comment must have hit home. As soon as he arrived at Serena’s, Simon asks her if she sees him as an engineer or as a man. She only sees him as an engineer.
The Rest of It
• Roque thinks Sara is still got something going with Anto. He convinces Cheo to tell Sara a fib about going to Zacatecas and then head over to San Gaspar and catch Sara doing something she shouldn’t. You suck Roque.
• Quique sees Rafa at Nachos and wonders if he should approach him.
• Nat makes it home and cries on Isa’s shoulder. Isa says that she broke up with Rick forever.
• Rick received a huge wad of cash from Pedro. He plans to keep playing Conatrol and Pedro, get as much money as he can and then get as far away as he can.
• Titina has her friend call Conatrol and leave a message for Sebas. The friend says she is Nat that she wants Sebas to meet her at the hotel. Sebas arrives expecting Nat and make up sex. He gets crazy Titina instead. He plays along and asks if she wants them to take a bath together. Titina gets nekkid and heads to the bathroom. Sebas grabs all her clothes and scrams. Leaving her stranded in nekkid in the hotel. Explain that to your brothers, chica.
• Sara brings Anto nieve de pétalos de rosas.
I'm with you on Sebastian's declaration of not giving up being less meaningful coming from an admitted cheater. And at the same time, I'm amused by him ditching Titina at the hotel with no clothes. I also loved Drunk!Sebas kissing Sara on the forehead repeatedly and stroking her hair.
"She needed him to explain in minute detail how his rocket works." Tee hee! Sorry, couldn't let it go unremarked.
I offer Just an Engineer (sung to the tune of Just a Gigolo)
He's just an engineer
The only one who's here
people know the rocket he's making.
Paid for every bit
not selling views of it
ooh, what they're saying!
There will come a day
he'll finally fly away.
What will they say about him?
When that launch comes he'll hear
"What an awesome engineer!"
Why'd they e-ver doubt him?
'Cause Siiiiiiiiiiimon's got a rocket!
Edwina cares for him, and science
It's quite an alliance
He waaaaaaaaaaaaas so sad and lonely
sad and lonely, sad and lonely,
But finally Edwina came to take a chance on him
'Cause he ain't so bad....
I don't think I even know how to praise that version of Just a Gigolo enough.
Loved this too:
"They take the meeting of the drunken He-men Women Haters Club to Bruno’s apartment."
Diva - thanks for the song lyrics!
Love the rocket jokes. :) I was glad that Edwina went right to Simon to confront him about what she saw. Sure, it didn't lead them to smooching and ripping off each other's clothes. But at least it cleared up a major misunderstanding.
I enjoyed both seeing Sebas being miserable, and him punking Titina. They both deserved what they got. Sebas still has not taken adequate responsibility for his role in how all this went down.
Thank you Denise!
Sebas is still dead to me, but I did like him getting back at Titina. I just see it more as justice for Nat's sake.
How did Titina even make it to the hotel anyway...no que "Your brothers will be watching you"?
Now that I've had a chance to read more recaps
Vivi thanks for Monday's recap and rocket jokes (I liked what Sara liked)
I really liked though " Bruno, who decides to come along for the hell of it" -what a perfect description of Bruno's personality
oooh and the lyrics, I've been humming it, but didn't know the words
Thank you so much Vivi
-----
Ramon has actually been the one stopping fights this week what a change!
-----
Awww Edwina :{ Simon saying he didn't see her as a woman seemed to sting a little more than her saying she only saw him as an engineer- was it just me?
---
I liked how ProtaSara made lemons into lemonade or torn up roses in to ices for the restaurant and Tonio that's just how she does
-----
oh Sara thanks for the recipe
And the recap of course
"You suck Roque." - Word to the nth degree
-----
I'd never heard just a gigolo before(which is kinda crazy I know) but enjoyed the lyrics all the same Diva
maybe I just don't remember hearing it, cause now that I've looked it up it sounds familiar
----
Ok I have a dissenting opinion on Sebas and Nata, it might not make me too popular but here goes anyway
I think Sebas has been getting away with having out of town flings, the way he went about this and the way he kept telling Tonio he knew what he was doing, seem to indicate that.
So, I'm glad he got caught and am laughing at all his troubles and think he totally deserves to suffer, but if he really learns something from this, specifically that he never *wants* to cheat again, then I think Nata should get back with him, after making him suffer for a while and only if he really is convincingly repentant, I have hope they could have a good relationship even after all this.
Maybe I'm wrong, and I welcome arguments to the contrary but that's what I think now.
Tomorrow I may change my mind:)
---
oh yeah
raisin update
day whatever (I've lost track and haven't checked since yesterday anyway)
Each day I checked they've gotten progressively darker/more raisin colored and more shrively, now they really look like raisins but they're still pretty moist so now I'm wondering how dry I have to let them get before they are safe to leave out of the fridge w/o going bad.
It occurs to me I haven't tasted any since day 2? 3? whatever
I taste one and it tastes like a raisin but jucier
cool
I'm pretty much resigned to Nat and Sebas getting back together. It feels like a given, but it's just a matter of "how" and "when" and can they make it believable. I hear what you're saying--if he really reforms, go for it. I just don't know how Nat (or for that matter I!) would be convinced that he has reformed.
I hope the raisining keeps going well!
Yeah, what Kat said about Nat and Sebas. I think one of the main factors for me is that Sebas has always known that cheating was a deal breaker for Nat. And she knows herself well enough to have put that on the table. We have seen how jealous she can get, even over innocent stuff. So I just can't see her getting to a place where she could forgive and forget. The writers will have to work hard to make it believable.
About to start working on the recap now. Yesterday was fluffy and today was filled to the brim with action. I'm warning everyone now that I won't do it justice.
The recap is perhaps a little out of order with some condensing and combining.
Sara arrives with the nieve de pétalos de rosas and Anto tells her all about the possibility of the plant closing. This makes sara incredibly sad. Does that mean he’ll be leaving San Gaspar? Sara tells him not to give up. She’ll be there to support him! She hugs him from behind (so k-drama….*nods to sneaky*)
Bruno arrives for his hydroponics class about the same time Laura is arriving for her reading class. Bruno asked about her sprout and she said that she had an accident and the flowerpot fell. The music was really ominous. Am I blanking out on a scene where Pedro broke it?
Sebas tells Anto about leaving Titina stranded in the hotel nekkid. Sebas gets a laugh thinking about her trying to explain to her brothers why she’s coming home just wrapped in a towel.
At the hotel Titina sneaks into an open room and snags some clothes from the closet. Too bad it’s a frog suit. (Wow that just made my day!)
Anto, Sebas, Lic Uribe and Rick on a conference call. The plant is losing even more gasoline than before! ¡No puede ser! Even Rick is confused. Lic Uribe wants Anto and Sebas to come to the DF.
Rick assumes Pedro must be stealing gas from other spots, too. Rick calls Pedro to tell him that the loses are so bad that they might close the plant. Pedro is not happy. If the plant closes, he can’t steal any more gasoline!
But it’s Carmelo!!!! He’s taken things into his own hands and has been stealing the gas!
Anselmo has found a replacement for Nelson. It’s a long time employee who knows the workings of the plant very well. Pedro tells him to get in touch with the mole candidate.
Anto, still trying to figure out how so much gas was lost, returns to the idea that there must be an informant in the plant. He asks Rafa for his opinion. Rafa is starting to agree. Anto sends Rafa to go talk to Comandante Chavez the Most Competent Policeman in Telenovela-land.
Anto and Sebas head out for the airport. Anto leaves a letter for Sara.
Titina refuses to eat her dinner (because she’s 5) and claims it makes her sick (eek!) and flounces away from the table. Her father and mother are concerned. She’s been acting weird since they went to Zacatecas. After the parents leave the table, the brothers wonder if Titina could be pregnant. If so, it will kill their parents. They plan to follow her and find out.
Bruno gives Laura a new flowerpot.
Donuts for dinner! It looked like a nice variety.
Edwina sits at home and ponders whether she is jealous. She decides it’s one thing to be jealous, another to show it.
Theme song!
Nelson goes to see the guys at the police station and talk soccer. He’s there when Rafa arrives an tells Fidel that Anto suspects an informant at the plant. Cara de I just tinkled in my pants. Rafa and Fidel plan to investigate and find out who is the rat. It’s important. The plant could close. Fidel will try to come up with a plan. He tells Rafa to watch his people. After the meeting Rafa invites Nelson to join him at Nacho’s (Nacho is still in the DF settling his divorce, BTW.)
Anto and Sebas arrive in the DF. Anto doesn’t plan to call Isa, but she shows up any way whining about being the last to know he was in town. How did she find out? Did I miss something? Anyhoodle. There is whining, there is blaming Sara for making her insecure (to which I say Sara didn’t “make” you insecure. You already were and Sara exacerbated it. Own your flaws, be-yotch.) Isa convinces him to set a date for the wedding. She finally leaves and Anto is the epitome of tortured soul suffering from unrequited love.
Edwina goes to Simon’s an interrupts donut time. She needs to speak to Simon. He invites her in and Edwina is introduced to Serena. Bruno and Juancho didn’t think they would ever see two women vying for Simon. Sara shoos them off to their rooms and follows, leaving Simon and his two lady friends alone to chat.
Edwina is super classy and explains how her interest in weather balloons started. Simon had come to apply for a loan and when she got a load of his rocket, she couldn’t help but get excited about launching it. Unfortunately, they had a falling out and she hasn’t seen his rocket since. When she gets up to leave, Simon offers to walk her out. In the hallway he asks what she wanted to talk to him about. She says it was nothing and leaves. After Edwina leaves, Simon decides to walk Serena to her hotel. (I think he left something there. ) Once they get there, Serena pulls more information out of him about the disagreement he and Edwina had. She also encourages him to mend fences with Edwina. (I find it so refreshing that we can have two females NOT fighting over a man.)
At Nachos, Rafa and Nelso discuss possible moles. Whoever it is is probably getting paid well. Nelson tries to throw suspicion on everyone in the plant. Then, when Rafa offers to pay, he acts relieved...since he’s short on cash.
Titina stalks Sebas’s apartment and terrorizes Chepe. Her brothers walk up and berate her. She loves Sebas with all her heart and there is something that unites them forevurz.
Isa heads back to her apartment where Nat is waiting. Isa is thrilled about setting the wedding date and dare I say happy that the plant is closing? Her glee makes me sick. I hope a mob of unemployed San Gasparinos chases her down with pitchforks. Nat starts to cry when she hears Sebas is also in the DF. She could never forgive him, but it hurts.
Titina’s brothers drag her home. They are even more convinced she’s pregnant.
Nelson calls Pedro and tells him about the impending search for the mole. Pedro asks when Nelson heard Rafa tell the police….
...because there’s already a note waiting for Rafa when he gets home. “Are you interested in making a lot of money?”.... Rafa knows immediately that it’s from the saqueadores. He informs Antonio who tells him to inform Fidel.
Sara finds Anto’s letter among the mail Simon brought in earlier. In it, Anto says good bye and apologizes for not being able to love her as she deserves.
OK, I will admit...she's a bunny boiler, but Titina in a frog suit cracked me up! I wonder who's wandering around San Gaspar now missing their frog suit and wondering where the hell it went?
"But it’s Carmelo!" That dumbass! Why didn't he listen to Pedro?! (Did I just say that?)
"Edwina goes to Simon’s an interrupts donut time." OK, first of all...DONUTS! and second of all...I loved the way everybody was moving around each other so smoothly to get the table set so they could have DONUTS! It was like a little dance.
"Unfortunately, they had a falling out and she hasn’t seen his rocket since." I know, dude. That's, like, way unfortunate. *snickers*
So help me, Titina had better have food poisoning.
Oh, Anselmo, Anselmo...you're trying to bribe RAFA?! This is gonna be good!
"In it, Anto says good bye and apologizes for not being able to love her as she deserves." *sob* ok, I know he'll be back, but still...*sob*
"Nelson goes to see the guys at the police station and talk soccer. He’s there when Rafa arrives an tells Fidel that Anto suspects an informant at the plant. Cara de I just tinkled in my pants."
Not to mention:
"Edwina is super classy and explains how her interest in weather balloons started. Simon had come to apply for a loan and when she got a load of his rocket, she couldn’t help but get excited about launching it." Ha ha - you're shameless!
Has Antonio made any progress at all with the saqueadores?
Look, I know it's hard for Rafa to think anyone in the plant is capable of being the mole. But now that he's accepted that this may in fact be true, he shouldn't be mentioning Tonio's plan to ANYONE except the police (and maybe even not Quintin-- he's a blabbermouth). I can't believe he just spilled everything to Nelson. Hello!
Yeah, I am worried that this plan to fool Pedro won't go as well as the "shooting" of Tonio plan. Especially with both Nelson and Ric in the know.
Titina in the frog suit was hilarious. It would have only been better had we also seen people pointing and laughing at her in the streets, all the way home. :) I'm going to imagine that it actually happened.
Sara- Yes, when Laura came home with her first sprout, Pedro was in a sh*tty mood and slapped it out of her hands to the floor.
"Comandante Chavez the Most Competent Policeman in Telenovela-land."
and this "Unfortunately, they had a falling out and she hasn’t seen his rocket since." made me laugh out loud
Titina in the frog suit was sooo cute little green Titina hee hee but at first when she looked in that closet I thought there must be a body in there or something she was so horrified
-----
But seriously Rafa!!??!! when he started telling all about finding the mole at conatrol right there in front of Nelson I was reduced to waving my hands around and sputtering I was so flabbergasted
San Gaspar home of the bocons !
-----
Caray Caray is one of my favorite sites, I come here whenever I can and the Vecina page is the best! (the other pages are nice too but they don't have rocket jokes)
One of the things I really like about this show is that they notice the little things like putting the ice cream in the freezer, they don't just expect us to forget that Tonio has some sitting on his desk when important things come up, no they have him ask Marina to put it away. It makes me think the writers think we are smart or at least paying attention and will notice that stuff
"It would have only been better had we also seen people pointing and laughing at her in the streets, all the way home." WORD.
Is it mean to say that the frog suit looked perfectly natural on Titina?
Sneaky- "I was reduced to waving my hands around and sputtering I was so flabbergasted" YOU TOO????? I do this all.the.time. You have perfectly described my reactions. "Sputtering" for sure!!
Isn't Caray just the greatest????
"...they notice the little things like putting the ice cream in the freezer..."
*nod nod* right? It's awesome!
The big drama today is the meeting in the DF and the question of whether or not the plant will close. Obviously, Antonio, Sebastian, and Ric all want the plant to stay open (as do Pedro, Sara, and all the employees), but the board and even Uribe are seeing the losses pile up and thinking it might make more sense to close it. MIGHT, because there are a lot of employees who have been there for years, and paying their severance could also be a big hit to the company, so this has to be researched. Antonio also brings up the angle that the employees shouldn't have to suffer for something beyond their control--namely, organized crime. There will be another big meeting "tomorrow" to discuss things further. Ric, Antonio, and Sebastian actually work together to gather the info to convince the board not to close the plant. Rafa is going to come to the meeting to explain how the sensors were tested.
What about busting the "saqueadores" (dudes stealing the gasoline)? Well, Pedro has Sara, his unofficial , unwitting informant passing on the news that the plant closing seems like a done deal. The sting operation with Rafa in the town square is a total fail! Quique shows up and Rafa can't get him to go away. They argue, and Quique exposes the microphone taped to Rafa's chest. Pedro is furious when he finds out, but the whole thing could have been avoided if he had just gotten more info from Nelson--of course Antonio's right-hand man, who was at the police station yesterday, wasn't going to be a good spy for them!
Speaking of the Rafa-Quique situation, many, many bleepings ensue throughout the rest of the episode when various people bring up Rafa's "cousin." I assume what's getting bleeped is/are slur/s for "gay" but I'm not a good lip-reader. On the side of "let people have their privacy and let's focus on the real issue here" are Fidel and Antonio. On the side of "too juvenile to resist making a joke" are Quintin, Sebas, and Ric. When Ric brings it up, Antonio is convinced that either Isabel or Natalia is the one who gave him that information, because Rafa is too discreet for it to be a "rumor" that Ric just happened to hear. Rafa confides in Marina that he's worried all his years of discretion will come to nothing due to Quique's behavior and he may not be able to find another job if/when the plant closes.
As regards Sara and Antonio's messy non-relationship…Sara is heartbroken that Antonio may never return, though she's still determined to be his cheerleader every chance she gets. The have a mushy "goodbye" conversation that ends with Sara poignantly thought-bubbling "It's over. What never was is over."
Cheo was pretending to be in Zacatecas, but he stops by El Molcajete to surprise Sara. The surprise is on him when he reads Antonio's goodbye letter, which Sara conveniently left on the counter. Sara does her best to pretend she's sad about the plant closing more than Antonio leaving. Cheo decides to focus on the positive--Antonio is leaving--and lay the pretty words on thick. Sara gives him a strong maybe, IF he keeps the number of kids to 2 and quits being such a Neanderthal.
The plans for a party to formally announce Isa and Antonio's engagement are going forward. Ric is steamed when he hears about it. Natalia isn't thrilled either--because Sebastian will be at the party. She won't promise not to shove him in the pool.
We still don't know if Titina is pregnant or not, nor do her brothers. She shows up at the Conatrol offices and Marina has to deal with her. She goes so far as to hand over a folder containing a memo to HQ stating that Sebastian's position at Conatrol San Gaspar is now vacant, since Sebastian will be returning to his old position at Conatrol DF. She is unmoved by Titina's whining and pouting and does a happy dance back into the building, having now gotten revenge for their previous run-in. You go, Marina! Power to the admins! She admits the memo was fake when she calls Sebastian to tell him what she did.
We end the show with Pedro calling Ric and suggesting he try to get himself sent to San Gaspar to run the plant. Ric looks like he likes that idea, but I'm pretty sure no one else would!
I was so glad to see both Fidel (who I like more and more) and Tonio being mature and open minded about Rafa's sexuality and relationship status. Those other knuckleheads need some slaps upside their heads. I'd like to be cavalier about Rafa just needing to come out of the closet, but I think his concerns about losing respect and standing at work are valid. For his sake I hope he can eventually be open about himself AND maintain his friendships and work relationships.
For the most part they've done this story well. A few things have made me cringe, but for the most part it has seemed honest and...? What am I looking for? They haven't made it seem like it's some huge statement. Rafa and Quique are regular characters like everyone else?
¿He metido la pata?
"Sara gives him a strong maybe, IF he keeps the number of kids to 2 and quits being such a Neanderthal." I liked what you said about it better than I liked the scene
"She won't promise not to shove him in the pool." - I hope she does
---
Vivi you are right about Quique's jealousy problem, he'd be a big problem even if he were the partner in a hetero couple, but I like him, I keep wondering what could Rafa do so he feels more secure and is happier but maybe there's nothing. :(
I agree, Vivi, in some ways Rafa's anxiety would be lessened so much if he could stop worrying about everyone finding out...but then I think that opens up a whole new can of potential worries. And Quique...ay, Quique...he seems so immature compared to Rafa. I'm sure there was something that attracted them to each other in the first place, but they seem to have lost sight of whatever that was.
Sara, I swear I heard that was a thing now, Netflix and something...oh, looked it up and it's "Netflix and chill" and nope, that's not meant literally! Rafa is a literal Netflix and chill guy.
sneaky two shoes, I wish Sara would stop giving him the "maybe if" when she knows he'll never be able to pull it off!
We pick up the action where Ric takes a phone call from Pedro, who suggests that Ric be the person to run Conatrol in San Gaspar if Antonio doesn’t continue on. Ric likes the idea.
Quintín is chatting it up with Nacho about the aborted Operation Trap The Saqueadores. Ramón walks up and he and Quintín start laughing about Rafa and his “dizque(supposed) primo” Quique. Nacho says to knock it off. “En boca cerrada no entran moscas” (Flies don’t fly in a shut mouth.)
At Conatrol Rafa receives a call from Quique asking what the heck he was doing in the park with a hidden microphone etc.. The conversation escalates as always to where Quique is again jealous of Rafa’s dedication to his job. Ramón walks up and overhears. Rafa tries to cover, but Ramón isn’t buying it. Rafa gets annoyed and tells Ramón to bug off.
Bruno’s got it bad for Laura. He stops by her classroom and tells her there isn’t much he wouldn’t do for one of her smiles. El Padre Vicente interrupts them before Bruno can cross that line into no-turning-back territory. (The chemistry was so hot, but the fear for both of their lives was just as present.)
Fidel chews out Quintín for being such a chismoso. Fidel tells him that at this point every employee at Conatrol is officially under investigation.
Rafa asks Marina’s help to squelch the rumors regarding him and his “primo.”
Fidel calls Antonio at Conatrol, D.F. to inform him about the investigation of all company employees. Ric is present, and believes the said employees will be annoyed with Antonio, making it much easier for Ric to replace him.
At El Molcajete Rosa asks Sara when she and Cheo will get hitched. “He’s so in love with you.” Sara says that it will be awhile since Cheo needs to learn to trust her and not be so suspicious all the time. She shows Rosa the goodbye letter from Antonio and admits that she’s going to miss him – but just because he is her neighbor and good friend, of course.
Roque throws more wood on the fire, telling Cheo he’s a chump for accepting that Sara lets Antonio be so personal and close with her.
Marina hatches a plan to shut Ramón’s mouth. She calls him in and tells him that she has personal knowledge that Rafa is as manly as any of them. How does she know? asks Ramón. Because she and Rafa are LOVERS! (Good one, Marina!) Ramón cara de Oh dang!
Sebas has a good laugh with Antonio when he tells him how Marina got him off the hook by telling Titina that he, Sebas, was transferred permanently back to the D.F..
Titina’s friend tries in vain to convince her to get on with her life, because “Chebi” ain’t comin’ back! Titi says she’s not giving up. She’ll call Sebas and tell him that if he doesn’t come back to her, she’ll throw herself off a bridge. Her friend says that it’ll never work, because even if Sebas takes her call, it will only be to tell her to jump head first, so that her death will be certain. (Pfffft!)
Theme song :-) Doo doo dee doo.
Fidel and Rafa inform the employees at the plant that they will all be investigated until the mole is found. Ramón blames Antonio because “That guy never trusted any of us. He’s just looking for a scapegoat to CYA.” Rafa says, “Calm down; we gotta do this.”
Ric calls Pedro. They’re gonna investigate everybody etc., etc..
Fidel thinks Ramón may be the “soplón,” with that bad attitude of his. Rafa says that he doesn’t think so. “He doesn’t like Andrade, but he’s an honest man,” says Rafa. Rafa blames himself for not figuring out who the mole is by now.
Sebas tells Antonio to stop thinking about tomorrow’s meeting and to watch tv or get some sleep. He himself is dressed very smartly and is going over to Natalia’s to see if he can make any headway there. Antonio looks at his phone. (Call her!)
Yes! He dials Sara’s number. She is initially thrilled, but then decides to be strong and not pick up. Anto dials the house phone and the same thing happens.
Anto asks himself what he is doing. He is going to announce his wedding date with Isa tomorrow and he must be more steadfast.
He calls his dad. He explains how bad it is at Conatrol. His dad expresses complete confidence in his son’s ability to find his way out of this problem. Antonio is encouraged.
Nati opens the door just to close it on Sebas again. He just wants to explain! Please could he come in?
[comercial]
Sebas; “Soy capaz de irme de rodillas a la Villa con tal de que me perdones, Natalia.” (I am willing to go on my knees to the Villa to convince you to forgive me, Natalia.) (One does this to pray for, or show thanks for miracles conceded by La Virgen de Guadalupe.)
Nati says not even La Virgen can help him now. He should have thought about this before taking up with Titina etc.. She shoves him out the door, not before he can make a smooching gesture and a wink. (Makes him look like a major cad instead of a repentant suitor.)
Ramón is circulating a petition against Antonio, but Nelson doesn’t want to sign. He says he’s in enough trouble. Ramón calls him a “coyón” and leaves. Nelson’s phone rings. It’s Rafa. Is Nelson’s offer to help with the investigation still a go?
(Seriously?)
Rafa arrives at Conatrol D.F. and enters the office where Sebas is working. Sebas brings him current with the latest data for the big meeting.
In San Gaspar Nelson is back at his post in the sensor control room. Another employee walks in and welcomes Nelson back. By the way he is concerned about some anomalies he has discovered in two sensors. At times they just seem to go offline. “Ah, really?” comments Nelson. “Let me take it from here.”
“Great.” says Other Guy, “It’s good to have you back.”
Nelson: “Phew, close one!” (Recapper: “Arrrrgg.”)
Marina loves the roses that Sebas sent her as a thank you for getting rid of Titina. He asks Marina to cross her fingers that the meeting goes well and the plant won’t have to close.
We’re at THE MEETING. Rafa begins his report by explaining how the sensors work.
[comercial]
Simón comes to Edwina’s house to tell her how wrong he was in blaming her for the article written about him and his rocket. He wishes he could win back her friendship. At first, Edwina tells him that she is not in need of his friendship. She says this so rudely that one would think Simón would be offended. But no, he continues to apologize and insist that their relationship means a lot to him, and would she like to help him with his cohete?
Rafa continues explaining how the stealing of fuel from the pipes dates back to 1994 and so is not a result of Antonio’s policies. One big wig recommends closing the plant. Rafa continues explaining why Antonio can’t be held responsible to halt al delinquency in the region.
Simón to Edwina: “So, wadda ya say?”
Edwina: “But you didn’t trust in me.”
Simón: “It can work out if we both try.”
She’s not sure, so Simón excuses himself and leaves.
Ramón walks into the sensor control room and greets Nelson. He tells Nelson that the letter with the signatures is on it’s way to the D.F. marked URGENT. Ha! “That will show Andrade not to distrust us here in San Gasp. I suppose you told Rafa about the letter.” Nelson: “Of course not. I’m no squealer!” (The heck you’re not.)
At THE MEETING Ric goes to bat for keeping the plant open. It would cost more to close it than to keep it going, he argues. The pensions of the long-timers, the machinery, the betraying of the trust of the community “eyes and ears” people, not to mention the loss of status Conatrol would suffer. Uribe calls a recess of 15 minutes.
Marina is antsy to know what is going on at the D.F. meeting. She tells “Chucho” to please turn down the music. “Heck, you sound like you-know-who now!” he replies, gesturing towards Anto’s office. Marina says she’ll be right back; she needs to make a call. When she’s out of sight, Chucho goes to check out the note on Marina’s roses. The note says, “So that you won’t miss me while I’m away, My Tigress. Your Rafa.” “Whoa, so Rafa likes the mature ladies!” comments Chucho.
Recess is over. Uribe says some head guy Sitches (?) has decreed that the plant in San Gasar will stay open for one more “semester.” Nearly everyone lets out a collective sigh of relief. That is, until Slick Ric proposes to now put someone else in charge of the plant instead of Antonio. Uribe thinks that is a great idea “muy atinado.” The big wigs leave and Antonio challenges Ric. “What was that stab in the back about?”
Ric: “Hey, I said I agreed the plant should stay open – not that you should be in charge!”
Antonio lunges for him, but Sebas and Rafa hold him back, as Ricardo leaves the room with an egregious smirk on his face.
In Uribe’s office the secretary hands him the letter from the crew in San Gaspar.
Anto, Sebas and Rafa are furious about the maneuvering by Ricardo. What to do now? The same secretary enters and tells Anto that he is wanted in Uribe’s office. Sebas: “Suerte, Cretino.”
Uribe is stressed about the letter. Antonio explains that there has to be a mole among the crew, and that he and the police needed to cooperate to ferret him out.
Uribe: “I understand your actions, but now I can’t defend you to the higher-ups.
You will have to leave your post at San Gaspar.”
Cue the music.
"The chemistry was so hot, but the fear for both of their lives was just as present." Beautifully put!
"Because she and Rafa are LOVERS!" This whole little side plot and the way it has played out so far was hilarious! I loved the card on the roses feeding into the story. Tigresa indeed :D
"Recapper: 'Arrrrgg.'" I'm right there with you. The longer he goes without telling people what's happening, the more afraid I am for his life.
I'm so glad Simon and Edwina have mostly made up! I hope she does start working with him again.
"Nearly everyone lets out a collective sigh of relief." Not even kidding, I was holding my breath and didn't realize it until Uribe said the plant would stay open.
I'm so pissed at Hot Head Ramon and his lousy timing.
But I kind of want Ric to be responsible for the plant, and let Ramon and the other hotheads suffer under Ric. The only ones I feel bad for are Marina and Rafa.
Speaking of those two, their ruse about them being lovers is hilarious!
Hmmm. Good point about how interesting it might get when we see the plant under Ric's command. I think he has definitely bitten off more than he can chew with Pedro also.
"Nelson: “Phew, close one!” (Recapper: “Arrrrgg.”)" also me arrrrrg
------
I really think that somehow it will work out best for Tonio if Ric takes over the plant for a while, maybe that was Ric will take the heat for the robo or maybe they'll see how much less competent he is than Tonio
----
Laura and Bruno sigh they have such chemistry I want them to be together, but they're both too decent to play around, maybe that's what makes them so likeable.
Speaking of playing around, Sebas ungh not a lot of sympathy left for him
Perfect description of the scene!
"(Recapper: “Arrrrgg.”)"
This deserves a standing ovation
"Rafa continues explaining how the stealing of fuel from the pipes dates back to 1994 and so is not a result of Antonio’s policies."
Thank you! That's what I thought I heard. This has been going on 20 years???? The San Gaspar plant is really lucky to still be open!
