FATMAGUL: Turkish Episode #79/U.S. #82, Thursday, 3/31/16
RECAP BY VIVI
FATMA’S AND KERIM’S FRIENDS AND FAMILY CIRCLE GROWS
Part 1:
Fatmagul is recounting her story, specifically some of the things that happened over the last few months, to her reporter friend, Sinem, for her book. Kerim brings out a plate of delicious looking watermelon, which Fatma digs into immediately. Viewerville gets a surprise when Kerim puts his hand on Fatma baby bump, and says their baby girl has only craved watermelon lately. (!) Neither of them can stop smiling. Sinem asks what they will name her. Enise, after Kerim’s mother. Kerim kisses Fatma and they share a moment of pure bliss and love as they think about their baby. Fatma tells Sinem how they discovered she was pregnant four months ago—on June 8th, her birthday…

Fatma wakes Kerim by tickling him with her hair. A raucous tickle war, with Kerim playfully straddling Fatma, ensues…which turns into morning nookie. :-)

Kadir and Meryem have breakfast al fresco, and speak about a recent case of his—a six year old child left orphaned by a deceased mother (killed by her husband) and a father in jail. Kadir is losing sleep, worrying about the poor child. Meryem suggests they adopt him, and Kadir immediately agrees. He had been thinking the same thing!

In another intimate morning moment, Fatma dries her man’s hair and sends him off to work. He says he’s in a hurry, and has no idea when he’ll be home from work. Fatma is visibly crestfallen and asks him to remember what day it is. June 8th- her birthday! He (pretends he) forgot and is apologetic, and gives her a birthday hug. She pretends it’s no big deal and sends him off to work, then goes to work at the restaurant—where Meryem, Rahmi, and Mehmet also (pretend to) forget her birthday. In fact, Meryem makes a big deal about leaving work early to go have dinner with Omer and his girlfriend. Rahmi claims to have a meeting in his apartment building. Fatma pouts quietly.

She goes home later and starts prepping a romantic dinner for her and Kerim that evening. She’s even made a special cake. (no one should have to make their own b-day cake!) She calls Kerim, and he says he won’t be done working until VERY late that night. (so cruel!) Poor Fatma puts all the food she prepared in the fridge. She hangs out with Lodos, the only one who’s shown her any love that day (well, aside from the morning nookie). Rahmi calls and tells her he had a big fight with Mukaddes and needs to talk. She goes to meet him at the docks.

FATMAGUL, Thursday, Part 2:
As they sit by the water, Rahmi tells Fatma that things are not working out here. He doesn’t want to separate from Fatma—she is as important to him as his children. But he thinks it’s time he, Mukaddes and the kids return to Ildir. Both he and Mukaddes feel out of place in Istanbul. They want to go back to running a dairy. The children will be better off running free in the countryside. They’ll reopen the dairy—and they won’t use the Yasaran money to do it. Fatma starts to cry and offers to make peace with Mukaddes, if that will make him stay. She’ll miss him so much. Rahmi will miss her too, but knows he’s leaving her in good hands—Kerim, Meryem and Kadir. A boat keeps honking its horn and interrupting this emotional moment. Fatma snaps and wonders what the hell is the captain’s problem! She looks over at the boat, and sees Mehmet and Emre unfurling a banner that reads, “Happy birthday, Fatmagul!” Kerim, Meryem, Murat, Kadir, Omer and his girlfriend are also on the boat. Fatma realizes they tricked her into believing they had all forgotten, when they had planned this surprise party. Fatma and Rahmi dry their sad tears and board the party boat. She accepts the hugs, kisses and well-wishes of her friends and family.

The happy group cruises down the river as the sun sets. Fatma opens all her gifts, including a cute dress from Meryem that she changes into immediately. Kerim follows Fatma, and gives her his present privately—a delicate gold necklace with a rose and diamond pendant. Fatma loves it. Smoochies! They join the group who are seated for dinner. Later, as the others dance, F&K share a romantic moment alone on the prow. They remember her birthday the previous year, when he gave her the wedding dress. At that moment, she could have never imagined actually wearing that dress. She never would have imagined back then that they’d get married so soon. Kerim is proud that they’ve come so far. Fatma can’t imagine what she’d do without him by her side. The moment is interrupted by Emre taking candid shots of the lovebirds. Then Fatma gets nauseous…She goes to the bathroom to yack. Kerim eventually fetches her to come make her wish and cut her birthday cake.

Back in the present, Sinem asks what Fatma wished for when she blew out her birthday candles. “That our happiness never end. That we win the case. And that Kerim never leave my side.”

The neighbor girl, Esma, arrives with her mother, and we see there’s been an amazing thaw in relations with F&K’s neighbors. They sit with F&K and Sinem. Esma tells Fatma privately that Emre (and his family) formally asked for her hand in marriage! Joy and hugs all around. Kerim joins the celebration and concurs that Emre is a good man.

Back outside, Fatma continues to tell Sinem about how her birthday on the boat ended—cake, music, and cuddles with Kerim. But it’s obvious that Fatma was still feeling nauseous, even as she smiled contently in Kerim’s arms. When they get home, she upchucks almost immediately. Kerim gets super worried when he sees how sick she looks. He wants to take her to the hospital. She refuses, so Kerim calls Meryem for advice. Fatma runs to the bathroom again. Meryem has him make special teas, but also urges them to go to the hospital if needed, or she can even come over. Kerim fusses over Fatma and brings her tea in bed.

FATMAGUL, Thursday, Part 3:
Meryem can’t sleep for worrying, and wants to go over to F&K’s. Kadir finally hits on the right answer. “Could she be pregnant?” Meryem calls Fatma and asks her when she last saw her period. Fatma realizes she missed it, but has a hard time believing she’s pregnant. Kerim immediately gets excited and takes her into his arms. He’s sure she’s pregnant. She wants to do a pregnancy test first, but can’t help but get excited along with Kerim at the prospect of being parents. Meryem and Kadir are also overjoyed about being grandparents. Sadly, they learn that the child they wanted to adopt has been claimed by distant relatives. But being grandparents will make up for that loss.

Murat and Rahmi tell Mukaddes about the fun birthday on the boat. Her bitterness grows. But of course, she wants to know the details and all about the gifts, especially what Kerim gave Fatma. She wishes that the rose necklace has thorns. She mentions their move back to Ildir, to their OWN house. Murat gets super excited, but Rahmi is non-committal. A leak from the apartment above, and the appearance of the landlady requesting Rahmi’s assistance (yet again), is the last straw for bitter, jealous Mukaddes.

The next morning, Fatma and Kerim sit by the water, with their positive pregnancy test results in hand. If it’s a girl, they’ll name her after Kerim’s mom, Enise, says Fatma. Kerim starts to cry, then suggests that if it’s a boy, they’ll name him after Fatma’s dad, Mehmet. Fatma doesn’t care about the sex—just that s/he is born healthy, is happy, and has a good destiny. And, adds Kerim, that s/he only encounters good people in their life.

We come back to the present, and F&K recount how happy everyone was to hear the news about Enise. “My little girl was a surprise to everyone,” says Kerim proudly. F&K have postponed their trip to Australia until the following summer, when they’ll take baby Enise. And of course, Fahr will come visit in the winter when the baby is born.

Meryem and Kadir call F&K from Rhodes, Greece where they visited Meryem’s mother’s native village and house. They are glowing from their travels and vacation. F&K share the happy news about Emre and Esma. F&K and M&K plan on meeting up Ildir soon, since they all miss Rahmi and the kids (no mention of missing Mukaddes).

FATMAGUL, Thursday, Part 4:
We go back in time, to June 14th, to finally learn how the wall came down between F&K and their neighbors, and the cold war ended. F&K were driven from the airport, right after the trial, to their house by Emre. As they arrive, they see a fire raging in their neighborhood. As they get closer, they see it’s Esma’s house on fire. Esma, her mom, and little sister also are just arriving home, and cry that Esma’s dad is inside! Kerim and Emre douse themselves with water, run into the burning house, and rescue him. Fatma’s heart is in her throat, and she runs to Kerim’s arms after he brings the neighbor out. The next day, Kerim, Fatma, and Emre visit their neighbor in the hospital, and wish him and his family well. He admits he’s alive thanks to Kerim and Emre, in front of some of the other neighbors. He tells F&K that he’s so ashamed. He blesses and thanks them for saving him, and asks for their forgiveness. “From now on, not only will you be my neighbors, you’ll be my family.”

The romance between Esma and Emre started later, after Esma and her mom began helping out in the restaurant because Fatma was laid low with morning sickness, and Mehmet had returned to his village for vacation after finishing his exams. Emre came to the restaurant every day, and eventually asked Esma out.

Around this time, Rahmi, Mukaddes and the kids returned to Ildir. F&K and M&K give them an emotional send-off at the bus station. Fatma is a puddle of tears as she says goodbye to her brother and Murat. Rahmi entrusts Fatma’s well-being to Kerim. Fatma weeps as she hugs Rahmi goodbye. She tells him they are still together, even if they are living in different places. Mukaddes tells Fatma that they all had their reasons for doing what they did. She thinks SHE can forgive Fatma. (The nerve!) Fatma just wishes her luck and kisses the baby. Kerim hugs Fatma tight, and she cries inconsolably into his chest as the bus pulls away.

Back in the present, Fatma shows Sinem pictures of growing Elif and Murat, and of the new dairy they opened. The business is doing well—they only sell organic goat milk products (which they use in the restaurant). Rahmi is comfortable doing what he knows best, and the kids are happy.

Sinem points out that they’ve spoken about the what happened before the trial and after the trial. What about what happened the day of the trial-- June 13th? We are transported to the courtroom in Izmir, and hear Fatma’s thoughts as she sits in the courtroom- she wants this to be the last time she relives this nightmare, the last time she sees their faces—she wants them to finally be punished. We see all our players gathered in the courtroom. Fatma sits beside her lawyer, Kadir. In the defendants’ box sits Kerim (his lawyer, Omer, off to his right), Mukaddes(!), Selim, Erdogan, Resat, and Munir. In the courtroom are Meryem, Rahmi, Ender, Meltem, Hacer, Sinem, Perihan, Hilmiye, and Yadigar. The judges enter, and all rise. The trial begins.

End of episode.
(Thanks for being such a great group, Fatma Peeps! Romy, Nett, JdesdeNYC, Brenda, and all others who commented and lurked- I loved doing these recaps for you all, and discovering such a wonderful and beautifully done series. JdesdeNYC- thank you for providing us your beautifully crafted recaps each week. I will check in when I can as I travel the next few days. -Vivi)

Safe travels Vivi! Kudos to you and your band of Fatmagül followers. A triumph!

FATMAGUL:

Hello from Dubai! I just got off a near 14 hour flight and am enjoying a flat white and a croissant. Thanks again, LXV.

Romy- Saw your comment on the last post. Yes, it does seem like Fatma got pregnant from their first (not so great) time. So, at least they can say that something great came from not so great nookie. And now they can just enjoy the good/great nookie. :) Needless to say, the tickle fight in bed was my favorite scene this episode.

¿Quién es quién?

this is my favorite show,

it has all the drama that Eva has, prisons, murder, beating, and stabbings but it's being told from a different angle.

Eugene Siller (Pedro/Leonardo) is really pulling this off, the two twins, there is no doubt who is who, (of course the master in twins is Mario Cimarro in "La traición" being a twin passing himself off as the brother)

Laura Flores (Ines, Pedro's mother) is an incredible actress.

Oka Giner (Yesica, Pedro's sister) who was the rich daughter in "Bajo el mismo cielo", here has a gangsta look, a girl that got a job as the opening act at a Lucha libre match doing a short erotic dance, but one night, bad customer, (and I think she does her own stunts) jump up and caught him in a scissor lock with her legs and flipped him to the mat, wow, and at another time did a full flip.

Daniela Wong (Connie) who was the daughter in "Dueños del Paraíso", is caught in the middle of things, but she is so full of life, always sparkling eyes, love her!

Guillermo Quintanilla, (Chamoy, the ex dad) always menacing, is worse than ever.

Danna Paola, (Paloma, Leo's love) who I haven't seen before is amazing, I think that she is the youngest (20) protaga around,

Kimberly Dos Ramos (Fernanda, Pedro's love) keeps growing from "Marido En Alquiler" thru "Tierra de Reyes", perfect.

but this new guy (new to me because his Imdb list is longer than my arm) Carlos Espejel (Basilio), he is stealing the show, this guy is so cool.

QUIÉN
deb - I agree. This is a fun show because it does not get too dark or dramatic.

The more I watch Siller, the more impressed I become with his acting capacity. (seriously, I just want a rerun of RdC.... but I digress.)

Justino and any scenes with him in them get FFWDed because his storyline is just too creepy and disgusting. Let's hope he meets a deliciously awful end. Chamoy turns my stomach, including combing that beard. I just want to throw something at my TV screen.

The Yesenio/Rubén story is my favorite storyline. I just cannot help but like poor Termi. ;-) Let's hope Basi gets a desk job so his intelligence can be rewarded.

Quién

deb and doris, you're making me wish I had given Quién more of a chance. I didn't watch it from the start, but after reading some enthusiastic comments two weeks into the novela, I went to 5ft's site, read the recaps, and then watched an episode. The episode didn't impress me, and I decided that I'd stick with Eva la Trailera and not either add Quién or switch to it. But now you've got me second-guessing my decision. Fortunately, I'm still enjoying Eva la Trailera in spite of its stupidities (what would a novela be without stupidities?). And, as they say, a lo hecho pecho. But I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying Quién. Needless to say, you're welcome to discuss it here: you may encourage some more Quién fans to join in.

Fatma

Nice epi with mostly happy endings. You had to feel for Fatma crying her eyes out as the bus pulled away with her family. But it was for the best I believe.

But the nerve of Muka to say that SHE thinks she can forgive Fatma. When she first starting talking about this is where they part...I actually thought she was going to be decent but it's not in her. And she was delusional till the end. But good riddance. At least Muka is not living in the same city as Fatma anymore. While she can still try to wreak havoc from a distance....like drive a wedge between Fatma and her family...at least she's not in her space constantly.

So Emre and the neighbor girl. I'm glad. I liked Mekmet with Deniz (if they were going to pair anyone else up) and was disappointed when Deniz appeared more interested in Emre. I mean I really like Emre...but not with Deniz.

So the wedding night was not a total disappointment....I still didn't catch the conversation that confirmed this. Given the conversation the following day about not wanting to sleep in separate rooms, I assumed that nothing happened and only Kerim stained the sheets. I thought she got pregnant when they returned to that cabin resort a few weeks later.

Fatma:
Vivi, I miss you already. I swear it's true. Am I weird? We only "know" each other here but I have come to look forward to reading your amazing recaps so with the show ending and you away I feel lonely.
To my fellow Fatma peeps, J, you deserve a shout out for recapping, we were not many but we were plenty. It was a wonderful ride with all of you. I want you to enjoy yourself, be careful, and come back all refreshed. The tickle scene is the best yet. I love, love, love it. It's such a sweet moment, aww, and my Eniste. I am in heaven. Muka is cray cray, please go away lady. As for the trial, what's Kerim's crime? Not rendering aid to a person in need? That is the only thing he can be charged with, I think.

Fatma

Got a chance to watch live today now that I'm off the road. I enjoyed this finale. Not the usual TN finale since there was no wedding among the protagonist... but the ending was appropriate. Said it many times before...but this was a great show with great acting. Even the actress playing the Muka character. She did her job well because Muka was probably universally hated by all....I'm sure.

I stumbled across Engin's other TN, Kara Para Ask as well as a TN that he and the Ebe character were in together. Between the 2 shows, I hope Telemundo decides to dub the Kara Para Ask show. I'm sure it wont' satisfy the F&K cravings but it does look interesting.

I do have questions that I wont ask before the recap is posted. But Vivi (hope you're enjoying your travels) ...or whomever does the recap....can you please detail what happened with Muka. I want to make sure that I didn't misunderstand what I thought I heard.

Thanks

Fatma: Nett, I understand your confusion but when Meryem asked Fatma how things were with Kerim, they were in the kitchen at the farewell BBQ, Fatma clearly (I(in the Turkish)answered that night they slept together and it was hard on both of them. Meryem told her to talk about it with the therapist and Fatma said they will. I didn't watch the Spanish episode so I don't know her exact words to that question. They got married May 5 and she did not have a period in May and June 8 she is throwing up.
Romy

Fatma: Nett, Engin's show in on MundoFox( Amor Controbando) every day at 9pm and dubbed in Spanish. It started a while back they are already very far.

FATMAGUL

Vivi, great recap as usual. Have a safe and great time in Asia. I loved recapping this tn.

Nett, the Amor de Contrabando eps from MundoMax are all available on their webpage. I watched some of it and it was good .

I am working double overtime this weekend and I will not have the finale recap up until Sunday afternoon. Please be patient with me.

Juanita - QUIÉN won't win any Pemios, and some episodes are very FFWD-worthy, but it is light fare for those of us who are sitting on the Patio of Lowered Expectations.
😎 😎 😎

Eva

As I said earlier this week, I didn’t get back from book club until after 10 pm, so no recap from me. I’ll do one tonight, probably not very long.

By the way, I recommend the book we discussed last night, which blends nicely with some of the scenes in our recent novelas, especially Bajo el Mismo Cielo. The book is in English by an American born writer who has lived in Mexico nearly her whole life, her parents having moved there when she was an infant. It’s called Prayers for the Stolen by Jennifer Clement. Below is an interesting article in a British newspaper.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/books/authorinterviews/10624104/Jennifer-Clement-I-always-have-believed-that-literature-can-change-the-world.html

The connection to Bajo is the subject of trafficking of women, done by El Colmillo.

Quién

Doris, I'm surprised we haven't run into each other, since we've both been sitting on the wonderful Patio of Lowered Expectations! I find it's the best place from which to view most novelas. :-)

General

Novelera, thanks for the info re Jennifer Clement. I hadn't heard of her or of the book, but I went to the URL you gave, and both the work and the author sound very compelling. I wonder whether her books have been translated into Spanish.

Eva

Well, not much went well for our protagonists last night. It appears that Robert has had news leading him to believe he’ll wind up in jail. Of course, this is all Telenovela legal stuff. Pancho was suing him, and I don’t think you can sue another person into prison. Anyway, he and Cinthia agree to have Marlene and Andy bump off Pancho. Not sure if they also plan to kill Soraya. Marlene asks for half of the money inheritance and half of the businesses. She coldly tells Robert he’s a terrible businessman.

Another weird legal thing, or maybe I just don’t know about this. But the Houston legal team has managed to get Pancho’s accounts frozen, even though there has yet to be any judgment against him. Soraya remembers they have money stashed in the Cayman Islands. At least last night, Eva doesn't get any trucks.

More Adriana vomiting. Why doesn’t she tell her mother? I’m bored with this part of the story.

I guess Eva did a head fake on Marlene. She sent Bertha to look for a safe deposit box key in a fancy evening purse stored in the attic of her former house. Marlene interrupted them, found the key, and has appeared at the bank pretending to be Eva, expecting jewelry. But Eva mutters that Marlene must think she’s stupid, but she’s not. She finds another key in the mansion while La Alacrana is out trying to steal her stuff. I can hardly wait to see what Marlene finds in the box.

Martín and JJ are doing surveillance on the evil stepfather who raped (or maybe just tried and she stopped him – not sure) Camila. We see the new step-daughters are reluctant to get a ride to school from him.

Eva shows up at 3:00 and the nice shrink puts Fabi on the phone to talk to her mother. Armando the Ass shows up and raves in the background. Eventually he gets that guilty look and leaves. He appears to feel badly about his daughter rejecting him. He rushes out to say something to Eva, but she’s gone. I thought he might have been trying to say something halfway kind, but who knows.

Eva. I'll repeat what I said on Telemundo 1. OMG! A Cayman Islands account! How cool is that! Way to go, Pancho!

Eva. And does Marlene realize that she's working against her own interests? If she destroys Pancho's fortune, there won't be any inheritance for Bobby, for the Monteverdes to take, and she won't be able to get half of it. My preference for the baby problems would be that Adriana would miscarry due to all the drugs she ingested while with Andy, and that Betty would do something stupid and evil which would result in her death, but her baby would be saved. After all, we already know that the baby is a girl, so that we're emotionally invested in her, as is Pablo. The baby will be raised by Pablo and Eva. The drug ingestion might also explain why Adriana's pregnancy is so extremely difficult (apart from telenovela conventions, that is).

Fatma

Guys...thx for the info on Mundo Max. I will try to watch Engin a little over there but I'd much rather watch with the group. It's been fun watching epis and reading the recaps and engaging in the dialogue with you guys. Besides...Esclava starts on the 18th and not sure I'll have time this summer to watch two TNs...but we will see how the summer goes.

Rommy...I'll have to find that kitchen scene and re-watch it. If I have the right scene in mind, when I watched it...I thought it was in reference to how things were between them after the fight with Muka and F&K having words about him not trusting her enuf to approach her about the letters.

Bummer J ....first things, first...take care of business but I was so looking forward to savoring the last recap...and getting my questions answered. OK...I'll have to settle for hoping that Telemundo post the recap for me to re-watch sometime tomorrow so I can figure out what the judge said to Muka.

Great job and thanks to all the recappers! I've enjoyed each and everyone's recapping style and more importantly, commitment. Since there weren't many of us...initially, I didn't think there would be recaps so I'm so happy a few folks stuck around for this show and decided to recap and discuss. Appreciate the conversation, wisdom and cultural nuggets.

Eva

Novelera, thanks for giving us some plot to chew over. I think that Marlene and Andy DO plan to kill off Soraya as well as Pancho. Marlene several times has said something about wanting both of them dead, and she hates it that Soraya is such a good friend of Eva's and gets the chills whenever she's near Marlene.

I hope you're right about Eva's having done a head fake on Marlene. If she did, I fell for it too!

I too wish that Adriana would tell Eva about the pregnancy. Actually, from the look on Eva's face when Adriana suddenly made one of her dashes to the bathroom, I thought Eva knew what the problem was. But since she didn't say anything to Adri, perhaps I'm wrong. Or perhaps she's waiting to see whether Adri will confide in her.

SpanProf, good point about Marlene working against her own best interests, or at least her own best materialistic interests. It's possible that she so hates Eva that blurs her judgment. Also, I like your solution to the two pregnancies. I was perfectly content to have both women miscarry, but I agree that that's a bit of a strain even for a telenovela that thrives on coincidence. And your solution has the additional advantage of doing away with only one innocent baby.

Eva – Viernes – Parte 1 de 2

Epic fail for La Alacrana! She shows up at the bank to steal Eva’s jewelry. But the bank requires that the fingerprints on file match the person who wants access.

Bobby is adorable. He brings Adriana soup and feeds it to her. He tells her he loves her and gives her a tiny engagement ring. Like so many telenovela characters before her she can’t come out with the truth and rip off the band aid.

Eva, Bertha, and the two maids are chortling over how Marlene was fooled. Eva got Armando’s safe deposit key while Marlene was at the bank. Said Alacrana comes back before Eva can leave the house and spits some venom. They keep showing Marlene’s face like a mask. She tells Eva to leave her house. Eva calls her a plato de segundo que lame mis sobras (a leftover or second rate person, not sure which it means, but she says that she’s licking what Eva left on HER plate.)

Terrific scene. She tells Marlene she got the key but not her fingerprints, the love of her people, or that of her children. She tells her she’s had enemies more powerful than Marlene. And the person hasn’t been born who can doblegarla (vanquish her).

Pablo convinces Fajardo, his old partner in the police to get him into Mon-Sol for a recreation of the murder, and without a court order. [Fajardo is a serial gel-abuser. His hair is completely plastered to his head.]

When Adriana doesn’t accept Bobby’s proposal, he leaves angry that she let him go so far as to get on his knees before speaking up.

When Bertha tells Marlene that she’s the one who’ll be leaving soon, dragged out, Marlene first pushes the old woman onto the sofa and then fires her in a rage.

They torture us some more with Soraya’s corazonadas (presentiments). She keeps thinking something bad will happen to Pancho and/or herself.

The Mon-Sol drivers notice the bad guys who will be smuggling the drugs and realize they’re bad news. Evencio arrives and is greeted warmly.

Fajardo shows up at Armando’s office saying they’re going to use the premises for something about the upcoming trial. He presents Eva’s lawyer, and Armando is furious.

Soraya reminds me of the Old Woman Who Lived in the Shoe. She invites Bertha to stay at her house as well.

Andy the Asqueroso and the Sleazy P.I. are startled in their huge white van by the sound of a loud air horn. It’s Eva. She’s bought the tractor-trailer with the sale of her jewelry. Federica, Adriana, Soraya, and the maids come out shrieking with joy. Marlene also comes out and glares with that death mask face. Eva says she’s again going to be La Reina de las Carreteras y Eva la Trailera.

Cinthia also comes out and snarks to Federica (who she knows is of her social class) about knowing she was in jail with Eva. Federica responds that her husband is going to be in jail soon and maybe Cinthia as well. She heard that Cinthia had stolen a child. Cinthia flees.

Eva – Viernes – Parte 2 de 2

Pancho tells Soraya over the bugged phone that he has to fly to Houston to meet with the firm suing him. Soraya says no way; they’ll drive together.

Esteban almost finds out what Sleazy P.I. and AA are up to in the white van, and they peel out of there. [Why do they have to park right in front of the house?]

The good guys (gals, actually) celebrate with champagne. Bobby comes in, a bit stiff in his behavior, and Soraya tells him that someone sabotaged their factory.

Armando is freaking out about the police and Pablo being at Mon-Sol and Marlene keeps telling him to chill.

Pancho doesn’t fly to Houston because of a lot of protesters there over the food poisoning.

Armando insults Evencio and they almost come to blows.

Pablo takes Evencio step by step through the whole night of the murder. At first Evencio seems unsure of things while Marlene cackles in the background. Evencio remembers being sent a fine bottle of tequila and the smile disappears from Marlene’s face.

Evencio remembers that Sofía arrived saying that someone was trying to kill her and that Armando had told her to wait for him here. [Did Armando asking her to meet him come up at the first trial? No one seems surprised to hear this, so maybe I forgot that it was already known.]

Pablo wants to measure the time it took for Evencio to get from the guard shack to the offices. He asks him to remember what happened after Eva arrived. He says he was sleeping in the guard shack when Eva arrived. It was dark. Eva was asking for Javier, and Evencio told her only Sofía was there and that Armando had told her to meet him there.

So the electricity was out and Evencio gave Eva a flashlight and took one for himself to go turn on the electricity. Fajardo is using a stop watch. Pablo has Evencio timed from the guard shack to the electrical panel. Just as Evencio pulled the breaker, he heard Eva scream. Pablo and Evencio then run from the electrical panel area to the offices. Evencio describes that Eva was on the ground, holding Sofía, who was covered in blood.

Fajardo says it was 63 seconds from the electrical panel to the corridor where Sofía died.

Pancho, after hearing Esteban’s tale about the van, has his office swept and the bug is found. Pancho yells into the mike that he knows it’s Robert Monteverde. He yanks the cord out of the thing, causing some satisfying pain to the ears of AA and the P.I.

Evencio tells Pablo and Fajardo that Eva and he stayed there with Sofía's body and never left. Armando and Marlene look veeery worried hearing this. [I assume this time line precludes Eva getting out of the building and putting the knife where it was found outside the building.]

Eva

wow novelera, so generous of you to post a recap, and what a wonderful one it is.

good observation about Marlene's face looking like a mask!

as one of the maids said it, how is it that Marlene is everywhere?

yep, Marlene has Eva's house, her husband, her things, a second hand lady.

when Fajardo's hair is long enough for a pigtail, I think he'll go into rehab.

so Berta's getting a room at casa Soraya, must be time to hire a cook, and I'm wondering if Soraya has an extra room for me.

on the phone tap, maybe since the Mogollons had a wireless house phone they tuned into that frequency but needed to be within range, and yes this can be done.

Pancho was hedging at going to Houston because they don't have the facts yet and I'm hopelessly waiting for any security camera pics, any? *fingers crossed*

I'm not sure what Andy heard, could it be that the plane will crash with the lawyer (minus Pancho) on board?

oh yes, the Tequila in a box, (never had any), I seem to remember Evencio was told it was from Armando, but the bottle was removed by the bad guys.

I'm thinking we need to do a Perry Mason thing here and have the whole court walk through the crime scene.

and Pablo/Armando, wow, Pablo is ice compared to Marlene, but with intention.

FATMAGUL:

(Fabulous first day in Kathmandu. I've been fed so much just today.)

J- Looking forward to your recap. Having it posted later, just gives us more time to chat and think about how this tn was wrapped up.

Nett- No need to go back to that conversation. The only way Fatma could be having morning sickness by June 8th is if she got pregnant on their wedding night, May 5th. The nookie in the cabin only happened shortly before her birthday. I agree that the conversation in the kitchen was mainly Meryem checking in that the letters debacle didn't ruin things between F&K.

I worry about Murat and Elif growing up far away from the positive influences of Fatma, Kerim, Meryem, and Kadir. They need strong, positive role models to counteract the influence of Mukaddes, and Rahmi just isn't strong enough. I hope they send the kids to visit F&K often.

Eva

Novelera, what a fantastic recap! Succinct but complete, insightful, funny, and with useful Spanish...what more could anyone ask? Loved your likening Soraya to the Old Woman Who Lived in the Shoe. And yes, Farjado is definitely a serial gel-abuser. I wonder whether he has stock in the gel company. What other reason could he possibly have? Yecch.

Like you, I don't recall the issue of Armando's asking Sofia to meet him at Mon-Sol coming up at the trial. Perhaps the writers have had one of their brain f-rts? Or was it us?

If I'm not mistaken, Soraya continued to have her corazonadas even after Pancho said he wasn't going to go to Houston. Uh oh.

And when is Adriana finally going to tell someone what's wrong?

I'm still not sure what to make of Bertha.

Eva

Deb, you had me laughing out loud at your marvellous comments. I especially liked "when Fajardo's hair is long enough for a pigtail, I think he'll go into rehab," and your asking whether Soraya has room for you.

Yes, I too recall Evencio's being told that the tequila was from Armando. Perhaps tonight he'll remember that? Or will they keep us hanging over the weekend?

And thanks for your explanation about why the white truck was parked outside the house. I hadn't thought about a wireless phone.

Fatma

thx for the clarifiction vivi. I did revisit the cabin epi again. Fatma shed a tear as she was thinking of her first time in the cabin with Kerim...and they discussed her delayed declaration of love. So glad these 2 have found harmony in their relationship.

I agree with you vivi that the Muka influence on her kids will not be good given rhami's weakness. Thats why I dont understand the old thinking of avoiding divorce at all cost. Not all parenting is good parenting. If a judge really knew the true muka...he/she would waste no time removing the kids from her. True she hasnt harmed them directly yet but we know she is controlling and capable of putting her needs before anyone elses. No doubt she will poison their minds against Fatma till the day she dies.

Eva. Wonderful recap, novelera, and excellent comments, Deb and Juanita. Glad that Eva has her truck and paid for it herself, and loved the joyous all-female celebration when Eva drove it up in front of the house. I also loved it that Pancho found his office bug and he and Esteban foiled the detective and Andy listening to everything in their white van. It's great that Pablo is getting the murder logistics down to the point that he will be able to prove that Eva didn't have time to discard the murder weapon, something her first lawyer had said, but had not really brought home to the jury. Of course, there are 70 or 80 episodes to go, so even though things are going well for the good guys at the moment, it can't last. Besides, Soraya's premonitions always come true, and maybe we should be watching for Pancho's lawyer's plane to crash, deb.

FATMAGUL

I'm finishing up the recap now. This was a weird, informative, if anti-climatic finale. The previous episode seemed to be the finale, in that it wrapped up all everyone else's save the baddies' endings. We know Fatma and Kerim finally have a satisfying sex life; Fatma is pregnant with a little girl; Rahmi and Mukaddes moved back to Ildir; Meryem and Kadir are happily married and happy to be grandparents; Emre and Esma are getting married and Meltem found her dream man and is getting remarried. The only thing the finale resolved was the fate of Fatma's rapists and the people who helped them, but it only does that for five minutes. Back in an hour with the full write up and commentary on it..

Eva

I'll slip this in before the Fatmagul final gets up. And, by the way, thanks to all of you who recapped this show, especially Vivi. It's nice to see such lively discussions here on the Telemundo area, even if I didn't watch the show.

Thanks for the kind words about the recap. I like to keep my recaps down to two comments areas, whenever possible. Sometimes the conversations are so interesting that it goes into three.

Anyway, I simply can't believe the writers are going to have Eva return to prison. If that happened, what recourse would she have? I don't think you get more than one mistrial!

I expect the rest of the novela to feature Eva's business growing, and her predictions about sinking Armando's business coming true. This won't happen, of course, without a whole series of dirty tricks by La Alacrana.

Please, please, let BOTH of the Mogollones survive!

¿Qué Culpa Tiene Fatmagul?: FINALE "Fatmagul Gets Justice", Turkish Chapter 80/Telemundo Chapter 83, Friday April 1, 2016

PART I: Past Behavior Determines Future Behavior

The finale starts before the rape as Fatmagul is awakened from her small bed beside Murat in Ildir in all her peasant-girl glory by Mustafa, who wishes her good morning and wants her to come spend time with him. Fatmagul quickly changes and tries to sneak out the house past Mukkades, who catches her and reminds her to come home quickly because they have to cook at the Yasaran engagement party that night. “Don’t leave me with all the work! Do you hear me” hollers Mukaddes at a departing Fatma.

Meanwhile on the other side of town Kerim bicycles to his mentor, Galip’s welding workshop, with Meryem. They also plan to attend the Yasaran engagement party that night.

Mustafa and Fatmagul are by a lonely stretch of beach spending time together eating when Mustafa tries to kiss Fatmagul and she resists. “You’re my girlfriend,” he says, to convince her to neck with him. “I’m your girlfriend, not your wife,” Fatmagul counters, and Mustafa backs off. He asks her what she will do at the engagement party and she tells him, preparing the platters the waiters will serve. He tells her “not to move her hips so much” so as not to get him in trouble with admirers. Fatma scoffs at Mustafa saying she doesn’t do such things, but asks him to come with her to the party and help her in the kitchen if he’s so jealous. Mustafa balks, saying he has to head to Cesme with Serdar to do something; when he finishes helping Serdar, he’ll come back to Ildir and get Fatma. Fatma again scoffs at Mustafa, asking why he’s trying to fool her, if she already knows the “thing” he wants to do that day is to go drinking and get drunk with Serdar. Mustafa denies it and promises to come get her at the Yasaran engagement party. Mustafa gets a call from Mukaddes telling him Fatmagul needs to return home to go cook at the engagement party.

Next we are in Meltem’s bedroom as she and Selim get dressed and read the paper. Meltem complains that all the papers use the same picture when announcing and describing their engagement. After her father knocks on the door urging her the hurry up and come down for breakfast, she shoos Selim out, but not before asking him to do something about the tension between Erdogan and Selim’s father Resat and that he and his friends not get drunk so early in the day since she doesn’t want drunks at her engagement party. Selim agrees as he sneaks out the back door.

A polo-shirted Erdogan is at restaurant drinking orange juice with a newspaper in front of him when a cargo-panted and flannel shirted man comes to his table. It’s his drug dealer as the man slips him drugs in his hand when they shake hands and Erdogan lets him know that his money is underneath his newspaper. The dealer offers him a newer, “longer-lasting” drug, which Erdogan accepts. “I’ll let you know how it works,” he promises the dealer, after shoving the dealer’s payment for the drug under the paper.

Kerim is shown in his Galip’s workshop working with the mentor’s newest trainee. Kerim gets a call from Vural asking him to meet with him. In the meanwhile Kerim’s mentor, Galip, receives the mailman, and Galip hands the mailman a letter to Australia for Fahrettin.

Vural is shown walking to the beach, where Fatma’s rape will take place, while Mukaddes drives Fatma, Rahmi, Murat and herself to the Yasaran home and whines about how the chef in the Yasaran kitchen is bothering her to get there quickly to help in the kitchen. She also says they should have charged the Yasaran more if that’s the case. Fatma calls Mukaddes opportunistic and Mukaddes agrees. She then whines about Fatma’s in-laws to be, the Nalcalis, who expect Fatma to have a dowry. Rahmi tries to make peace by noting the Nalcalis will also give Fatma a bride present.

¿Qué Culpa Tiene Fatmagul?: FINALE "Fatmagul Gets Justice", Turkish Chapter 80/Telemundo Chapter 83, Friday April 1, 2016

PART II: Out of the Fullness of the Heart Men Speak

We see the elder Nalcalis in their fruit groves and Mustafa sneaks up on his mother. She lets him know a Captain Selami wants to speak with him; he lets her and his father know it is for a job offer as a sailor far away. His mother warns him against taking a job from someone like Selmami who has ruined his life. His father concurs, noting that money isn’t everything and he shouldn’t abandon Fatmagul for this job so soon after his wedding. Mustafa insists Fatma will just have to deal with his work hours as he wants to save up to buy his own boat.

As Fatma and co finally make it to the Yasaran home, we see Rifat, Erdogan’s father, and Munir discussing the problems Erdogan and Resat have been having recently. Munir suggests Rifat break away from his brother and form his own empire, since Resat is taking advantage of Rifat. Rifat balks, but will consider. They meet up with Resat who says that Erdogan should come to the engagement party and kiss his hand. Selim meanwhile speaks with Erdogan and convinces him to come to his engagement party.

Kerim meets up with Vural at a virgin stretch of beach he discovered, where Fatma’s rape will take place, and they talk about their futures as they wade in the water. Vural jokes that he’ll get married and move to Ildir and then he tells Kerim to marry Kristen and move to England since his welding skills would be valued there. Kerim balks saying he can’t leave Ildir, where his roots are, and where he has constructed a life. Vural asks if he’s reluctant to move so as not to abandon Meryem, but Kerim says no, she wants him to travel and leave Turkey, but he wants to stay in Ildir, fall in love, marry and raise kids. He flashes back to seeing Fatmagul that first day as he struggled with the sheep.
Vural, on the other hand is unsure if he will get into Cambridge as he hoped; the only thing he is sure about is that he will live elsewhere but he doesn’t want a family of his own. They leave the beach to meet with Selim and Erdogan at Yasaran house.

At that house Kerim and Vural encounter Fatmagul again on the staircase. Kerim blocks her path and stares at her, obviously struck by her beauty, until Vural tells him to let her pass. As Fatma flees, Vural recognizes her as the shepherdess they saw struggling to corral her sheep; Kerim is incredulous that it is the same girl, but Vural upbraids him noting that he should know the girl since she’s from Ildir. Kerim says although he obviously embarrassed the girl by staring at her, he doesn’t know everyone from his hometown.

As Fatma guessed, Serdar and Mustafa went out drinking. We see them in a restaurant drinking with Captain Selami and two lady friends of his, one of whom is fiercely flirting with Mustafa. She touches his handkerchief, his leg, at which he visibly balks but doesn’t stop, until Serdar mentions that Mustafa will get married soon and only has eyes for one woman, Fatmagul. Selami promises Mustafa he’ll earn a lot of money, along with benefits, if he takes the sailing job in Africa that he is offering him. Mustafa can start in week, he says. Mustafa balks, saying he can’t go sailing off so early since he has his wedding coming up, but afterwards, he’ll do the job. He gets a call from Fatmagul from the Yasaran engagement party telling him to meet her at her house instead of the party if he wants. Mustafa insists he’ll come by the Yasaran engagement party to bring Fatma home. He leaves Selami and Serdar to go as expected.

PART III: Round and Round

Vural, Erdogan and Kerim are at the party and Erdogan is hating on the whole event. He curses Resat, that his happiness would rot, is grateful to not be his unfortunate son. Vural notes that a Selim happily dancing with his fiancé Meltem doesn’t look unfortunate, to which they all laugh. Erdogan offers drugs to Vural, who gladly indulges, and Kerim, who balks at first, seeing Meryem is a few tables away, but takes it after Erdogan says Selim won’t balk if he’s offered drugs. Vural tells Erdo not to offer Selim any so as not to ruin his engagement party.

Kerim leaves the table to see Meryem off as she leaves the party; she tells him not to drive home drunk and he tells her he’s staying the night with Vural. Fatmagul is watching the presentation of the cake in a corner far away from the guests, but as Kerim comes back from seeing Meryem off, he encounters Fatmagul again, and asks if she was the same shepherdess struggling with the sheep. Fatmagul doesn’t answer, which leads Kerim to beg to at least hear her voice, to which she acquiesces by asking Kerim to get out of her way. As he counters to get Fatmagul to talk to him, Mustafa finally shows up at the party and calls out Fatma’s name, saving her from Kerim’s questions. She walks to Mustafa and he asks her what Kerim was asking her; she tells Mustafa her questioner asked for directions to the bathroom.

As Mustafa drives Fatmagul and a sleeping Murat home, he’s obviously jealous about encountering Fatma with Kerim and notes ironically that he wanted to spend more time with his girlfriend but she wanted to spend time with people she doesn’t know and give them directions to the bathroom. Fatma reassures Mustafa by taking his handkerchief with the promise to return it when he returns from fishing.

Back at the Ildir Yasaran house, the engagement party ends as Selim hands back the shoes of Meltem’s friends and he and Meltem make out before he leaves with his friends. He promises to stay with Vural to get over his hangover. The drugs start to take effect on Erdo, Kerim as they wait Selim and Vural so they can leave. Erdogan takes more drugs, offers Kerim some more which he takes. Vural comes out the restroom and they all leave in his car. They head of to “his secret kingdom,” the stretch of beach he discovered earlier.

In the meanwhile, Fatmagul is at home and sets her clock to head out to see Mustafa before he sets sail for his fishing trip.

After they arrive at that stretch of beach, we finally fast forward to the present in the court house as Selim tells the court the events that led up to Fatmagul’s rape at the beach. He tells the court they were drinking heavily, Erdogan gave him a second drug pill, and Erdogan was the one who dragged him (arrastrar) to the beach since he didn’t want to go there. Erdogan verbally contests this, asking ironically if he forcefully threw him on top of the girl (Fatmagul), too. Kerim is offended by Erdogan’s speaking of his wife this way and goes to choke him, which causes Fatmagul to be overcome by nausea. The judge, after telling Erdogan to not talk out of turn, decides for the court to adjourn for a fifteen minute recess.

As Meryem takes Fatma to freshen up and calm down, we see outside the courthouse waiting area are Sami and Hacer along with baby Murat. Sami is very Mr. Mom as he carries baby Murat in a baby carrier. Hacer relieves him of carrying Murat so she can breastfeed him and notes that Erdogan was silly and hotheaded for speak out of turn. Meltem and Ender are also there and Ender wonders why Munir is sitting at the defendants’ table. Meltem reminds her that Erdogan wrote a confession and implicated all who committed crimes along with him and that included Munir.

¿Qué Culpa Tiene Fatmagul?: FINALE "Fatmagul Gets Justice", Turkish Chapter 80/Telemundo Chapter 83, Friday April 1, 2016

PART IV: Coulda, Shoulda,Woulda

Meryem, Kadir and Rahmi try to convince Fatmagul not to go back in the courtroom for now, Fatma resists, saying she must see her assailants face-to-face, but she agrees to get some fresh air; as she goes to do so, we flash back to the night she was raped.

Fatmagul gets up out of bed by 1:30 am so she can make it in time to Mustafa’s before he sets sail at two. She has his handkerchief around her wrist. As she sneaks out of the house, she puts the kerchief around her neck. Meltem catches, but doesn’t stop her, as she runs out the house. At the beach are Erdogan, Selim, Kerim and Vural, lying on their backs high and speaking estupideces. Fatmagul crosses paths with them as she runs off to see Mustafa. Kerim happily points her out, Erdogan recognizes her as the shepherdess from before and they begin chase after her. This cuts back to the courtroom where we see Erdogan recounting the event. He doesn’t deny he is guilty, as he noted in his written confession, but he did not act alone, he insists. He didn’t even want to attend the party; Vural was the one who convinced him to go. The judge interrupts Erdo and tells him he doesn’t care about woulda, coulda, shoulda, he cares about the acts and deeds of those there that night and those who could’ve prevented the assault but did not. At this Kerim flashes back to how he pointed out Fatmagul to the others’ attention. The judge then decides to dictate sentence.

¿Qué Culpa Tiene Fatmagul?: FINALE "Fatmagul Gets Justice" Turkish Chapter 80/Telemundo Chapter 83, Friday April 1, 2016

PART V: Sentenced

There are eight defendants facing charges: Selim Yasaran, Erdogan Yasaran, Mukaddes Kentenci, Resat Yasaran, Munir Telci, and Kerim Ilgaz. Two are not present, the doctor Fikret Goralan, who wrote the false medical report saying Fatma was not raped, and Vural Namli, who is dead. The six present all stand as the judge dictates sentence. Mukaddes is first. She is sentenced to six months each on two charges: hiding and altering evidence in Fatma’s rape, and for obstruction of justice when she forced Fatma to leave the hospital early so she couldn’t denounce her rapists. Her sentence is converted to a fine, 36,000 liras, payable over two years, because she testified what she had done.

Munir gets the same two charges as Mukaddes and more, since he also bribed judges and other public officials in order to make the rape case go away, which brings on another four years in jail. He also gets a year in jail for kidnapping Mustafa; he gets a thousand days in prison for blackmailing Turaner and has to pay 20,000 liras for each day he serves for this charge. This adds up to seven years in prison. He will also be referred to the Istanbul Lawyers Association, since he’s a member, for additional punishment for all his ethical failures as a lawyer in Fatmagul’s case. The doctor, Fikret Goralan, whom Munir bribed to say in his medical report that Fatmagul was not raped, is on the lam, but is judged in absentia, to four years in prison.

Resat gets the same two charges as Mukaddes which carry a year in jail, plus four years in prison for his part in bribing the public officials to make the case go away. He also gets a year in jail for kidnapping and bribing Mustafa and a year in jail for blackmailing Turaner, for a total of seven years in prison. Perihan weeps profusely at hearing this.

Kerim, because he did not participate or commit any sexual acts against Fatma and he came forward to report the crime, causing the case to be reopened, he helped the authorities, is absolved. Fatmagul smiles at this determination, but Kerim remains serious, obviously feeling he does share some of the blame, and should have gotten a punishment. Vural, since he is deceased, has his charges permanently suspended.

Selim receives 18 years in prison, 12 for raping Fatmagul, and 6 for fleeing before the trial. Erdogan receives the same charges and sentence for the rape and escape attempt and three additional years in prison for attacking Fatmagul in the pedestrian stairway, for a total of 21 years in prison. Fatmagul smiles and sighs in relief as these sentences are read. As she exits the courthouse she hugs all her family, saving the last satisfied hug for Kerim, who hugs his wife warmly, but seriously, with the knowledge he too was to blame for the rape, but realizing he was graciously forgiven by the courts and his wife.

As the Yasaran are perp walked in handcuffs, even Resat in his wheelchair is led out handcuffed, Fatmagul’s voice rings out: “Let this be the last case, that the beasts are punished, that the victims never lower their heads in shame; that justice is always on their side; Let this be the last case; that violence against women, against the weak end.”

As the now sentenced criminals are taken back to jail the crowd outside boos them and Mukaddes, who they say has no shame. Fatmagul and her family however, are cheered and hailed. Fatma greets her supporters who carry signs saying “You are not alone,” “No is no”; “My body belongs to me”; “Rape is a crime against humanity”

¿Qué Culpa Tiene Fatmagul?: FINALE "Fatmagul Gets Justice", Turkish Chapter 80/Telemundo Chapter 83, Friday April 1, 2016

PART VI: Resolution

Fatmagul speaks to the press about what she hopes will come from the successful resolution of her case. She hopes her case would be the last; that her case will serve as a warning to perpetrators and encouragement to other women. She wasn’t alone in her pursuit for justice and they will not be alone, either. As Team Fatmagul leaves by taxi, the crowd cheers her by saying “We are Fatmagul!”

Next we see Fatmagul and Rahmi visiting their parents’ graves. Rahmi says they can rest in peace because Fatmagul is at peace. He also lets their parents know that they will have another grandchild who will be beloved. Fatmagul promises Rahmi she will him in Ildir at the end of the summer. They then pray at their parents’ graves.

Kerim is also visiting his mother’s grave reminding her mentally that he once said he would return when he learned to forgive her. As Rahmi and Fatmagul cross the cemetery to go to Kerim, they sadly pass by Mustafa’s wooden headstone, and walk through Mustafa’s parents’ graves. Kerim finally vocalizes his feelings when he proudly tells his mother that he’s going to be a father; that Fatmagul forgave him by loving him, and now he can forgive her, his mother, too. He also tells his mother he loves her and learned so much from her story. Fatma reaches Kerim, touches his shoulder and prays at his mother’s grave and is joined by Kerim as she does so. When they finish, they walk off hand-in-hand.

Then there is a flashback to the night of the rape, except the rape doesn’t happen since we see Fatma making it to the dock to see Mustafa, only to see the boat has already left. She sighs in frustration at missing the boat, but again encounters Kerim. He asks her if her name is Fatmagul, to which Fatma says “I’m engaged” and she runs off back home. Kerim looks at her smilingly and longingly as she runs off.

Then we cut to the present where Fatma walks proudly with her head high, beside her brother and Kerim after the cemetery visit. Later, a few months later, presumably to fulfil her promise to visit Rahmi in Ildir, a glowingly, bigger baby-bumped Fatmagul walks with Kerim hand-in-hand through town. “Is this the end?” asks reporter Sinem. “No, this is not the end,” says Fatmagul, because there are still too many cases of rape of women and girls. As she walks with hand-in-hand with Kerim, a Fatmagul voiceover mentions all the cases she knows of in Turkey. She and Kerim walk in the sun happily even as her voiceover trails naming such cases.

END OF EPISODE, END OF SERIES

Fatma

J....wonderful recap...full of detail. Still can't believe the show has ended. I enjoyed this show and the discussions here at CC.

Regarding Muka....her punishment was too light. I understood the part about her being sentenced but I didn't catch that it was converted to a cash restitution. So unfair since all she's going to do is pay it with that dirty money from the Ys. I did catch one conversation between Rhami and Fatma...where he indicated Muka has a job doing something with real estate management.... but she is ashamed to look someone in the eyes. Couldn't understand if he meant look people in general in the eyes...or Fatma. Point is....she finally showed some shame. It took Erdogan's confession to for the law to go after her...and I'm glad it happened.

Rhami is back where he is comfortable...around familiar people and places. And he's making a living doing what he knows. Its an honest living...nothing wrong with that.

Appears that the Ys and Munir got what they deserved regarding their long sentences. They were so arrogant and indignant....and so corrupt. They were horrible people who thought they were above the law so glad they fell...and hard.

In the flashbacks to MEstafa and his family....2 things stuck out...he was going to be controlling of Fatma and probably take her for granted...and he was definitely about making money...and would have sacrificed his relationship with Fatma to make money. He appeared to be an honest man but we all know money can be used to manipulate and corrupt so he was bound to compromise his values/family for money. Unfortunately, the ugly event of the rape and the Ys intervened in the worse way. He true character was revealed...and it was weak.

Like I said earlier, this was not a traditional TN finale with a wedding but it worked. I liked how it went back to the beginning to give insight on how that day started for all of the main characters. The last 2 epis gave us closure on the family/relationships of our main characters...and we got closure regarding the punishment of the criminals. Unfortunately, the struggle continues for so many faceless victims. The ending was meant to be a message...and it came across.

FATMAGUL

I agree with your comment about Mustafa's character being revealed in that talk he had with his parents in their fruit grove. He had no plan to tell Fatma about him going away as a sailor in Africa until after they married. It showed that he was selfish and uncaring of his partner's feelings. How he treated Hacer was not a fluke. Fatma was going to get the same treatment, and she did when he made it all about him when he came to visit her in the hospital. The only thing I liked about the focus on the beginning of the story in the finale was that it showed how everyone's responses to the rape was prefigured in the actions they made before the rape. Given who they were before the rape, the reaction to the rape was no surprise.

Mukaddes got off easy but at least all her deeds were exposed to the public. As much as people shamed Fatma for being a victim, Mukaddes will be shamed for selling her sister-in-law down the river.

Fatma: J, thank you so much. The final was lauded, hated, debated and dissected in 2012. I liked it because it showed what could have been(Fatma making it to the docks) and what did happen. I also was dissatisfied with Muka's sentence but when you think about it she obstructed justice and tempered with evidence but her crimes were more moral than egregiously illegal. Kerim failed to prevent the crime but in he was inebriated and drugged plus one against 3 and he failed to report the rape. Nett, Muka is ashamed to look at the villagers in the eyes and Fatma of course. Mustafa was bad news and Fatma would have been miserable. Thank you ladies for your company and kindness. Maybe we can meet again in Esclava Blanca. I think I will give it a shot. Until then I am on a break.
Vivi, you are missed but enjoy.
Romy

FATMAGUL

I appreciated the artistry of the finale, especially showing us how much of the characters' behavior post-rape was prefigured in their actions before the rape. Erdogan was destined to end up in somebody's jail because he was making drug deals at breakfast. Mustafa was unfeeling and unselfish because even though his parents explained to him it would be dumb to run off and leave a wife to go get money right after getting married, he still shrugged and said, "So what! She will have to deal because I'm the man and I need to make money." Kerim was looking to settle down and get married, which is why is he was so patient with Fatmagul; and in some way, they were "meant-to-be" because they kept on bumping into each other in the days before, and the day of the rape. Vural wasn't long for this world because he didn't want a family of his own.

However, the hyperfocus on the beginning was overkill. Why spend all that time--nearly ninety percent of the episode--on the lead up to that day when you could give a hopeful message by showing Fatmagul working with other rape victims, caring for her and Kerim's kids, visiting Australia, etc, to show that recovery after a rape is possible. Fatma loved her on her niece and nephew so much; it would have been great to see her loving on her own kids, Kerim, and continuing to help other domestic violence victims.

Even writing the recap, I felt weird spending so much time going over terrain we went over in the beginning. Most of what was shown in the past could have been shown in earlier episodes as flashbacks. The back-to-the-beginning focus was too much.

I did love that Kerim was somber in his acquittal. The look on his face said he knew he deserved punishment but only Fatmagul's love and the law's mercy is what gave it to him. I love the fact that he's still harsh on himself for that night because it makes him aware to not allow himself to be that irresponsible again. He really has grown up.

Fatma

Romy...I just wanted Muka to spend time in jail. Paying restitution with ill gotten money was not enuf for me. She can't pay enuf for the moral crimes she committed so I really...really.... wanted her to spend time in jail.

Fatma...

J....I see your point and when the writers took us back to the beginning, I was dreading it because I didn't want to see the rape scene again. I was glad to see that not only did they not replay that scene...but they also gave us a different angle of the beginning. Yes...many of the scenes were a repeat but not all of them so I felt like they provided additional insight into the main characters.

For MEstafa, was able to see more of his chovanism and selfishness. For Vural we could see that he was not happy with where he was in life. Ergo was destined for trouble and Kerim wanted a simple life. Selim did seem like he was truly happy with where was in life. And we saw the arrogance and maneuvering of the Yassaran parents. Muka...well Muka was Muka...nothing new about her.

We also see that Kerim's maestro was corresponding with his dad so that could have played out differently as well.

I found it interesting that Vural was encouraging Kerim about Kristian...but Kerim wasn't interested in her because he didn't want to leave his town. I initially thought that Kerim was always interested in leaving ...wanting something outside of that pueblo...but that wasn't the case based on the finale. It was Ebe that had encouraged him to leave so had it not been for that night...he would still be there.

Vural didn't know what he wanted...the finale demonstrated that something was missing for him....he just wasn't happy and didn't really know what he wanted at that point in his life...and apparently didn't know what to do about it.

J ...I too think the F&K were destined...despite that awful night. And I liked them showing us what could have been...had Kerim met Fatma differently. He had his chance to be more suave on the stair case ...but he was awe struck and couldn't say anything and ...Vural was there and had said something to Fatma about getting pass them so I'm sure he was nervous. I get that Fatma wasn't exactly open to meeting anyone and quickly declared that she was engaged when he approached her during the party...but I think they would have connected eventually. Interesting thought that they lived in such a small pueblo and hadn't come across each other yet but I guess some of that is the age difference.

FATMAGUL

Based on the dates on their parents' grave stones, I estimated that Kerim is eight years years older than Fatma. Kerim's mother died in 1990 when Kerim was six so he was born in 1984, which made in 26 at the time of the rape in 2010. Fatmagul's parents, according to their gravestones died in 2004, and Fatma said she was 12 when they died, so she was 18 at the rape in 2010. So, the age difference meant they didn't see each other in school at all which meant they didn't get to meet.

Given that Maestro Galip was communicating with Fahrettin, Fahrettin was planning to come back in Kerim's life since hebhad been probably asking for info on how Kerim was doing.

FATMAGUL:

I know it's the middle of the night there, and my internet is spotty, but I still must try to give a shout out to J for this spectacular recap. Thank you so much!

At first I was a little put off and confused by th is strange return to the beginning, but then I was drawn in seeing everything from a different perspective and with more detail than we originally saw.

As we inferred, Mustafa was always the selfish, macho jerk he became after the rape. When we compared his jealousy to Kerim's, I could never see it as the same. Kerim just didn't have that kind of cruelty and selfishness in him. Insecure, yes. But at heart a kind person wanting to love and be loved, and create a family.

Farh had said he'd kept tabs on Kerim over the years, and now we know the maestro was one set of his eyes on Kerim. I wonder if he specifically asked him to be a surrogate father to Kerim too.

I would have loved to see all those things you all mentioned- F&K with their own kids, their work with rape victims, Fatma going to university, Australia, etc. But these characters were so well drawn that I can easily picture it all. :)

FATMAGUL:

I wrote the above comment this morning (my time) but our internet was down, so it didn't get to post until now. :)

J I would be remis, if I didn' thank you for the outstanding recap. Until I saw it, I couldn't believe that you recapped everything including the flashbacks. You are great! ITA with all of my peeps comments about the TN and the finale. I was a little bummed out looking at about 1& half hour of flashbacks in the finale.

This was a superbly written and acted TN. ITA with the comment about the actress who played Muka. She did such a realistic job that she had all of us hating her and wanting revenge. I had to chuckle and tell myself that it was only a TN, but I wanted her anvil to be more then a suspended sentence and a fine. See even now, I don' t feel vindicated with her punishment. She will never change.

Vivi, thank you for your comments from abroad. You know how's to engage us and we in turn engage one another. Nett you are right we were few but mighty. I will miss all of you, my Fatma peeps. I look forwjjard to recaps by "J" & Vivi with other TNs.

Fatma: Well said ladies. To me it added to the depth of the characters. Also, when Kerim was saying "If only I didn't point you out to them" so we saw that moment. I love the last shot of a clear and sunny sky forecasting a bright future for our lovebirds. They left their future to our imagination but we know they are happy and hopefully Mehmet/Meryem(twins) are born 3 years after Eniste. Vivi, have fun.
