As I mentioned on the prior page, I will put up a recap tonight.
 

FALSA IDENTIDAD – 1 de 3

OK, I’ve completely given up on episode numbers; and, furthermore, I don’t care about them! So there!

And to think I’ve been avoiding the 10:00 novelas because of gratuitous violence! This one was hard to take. And, just in passing, Uriel has just about wiped Andrés from my memory bank in his horrific portrayal of Joselito (don’t call me that).

Porfi is working the saintly act to Isa, Max and Amanda. Amanda wants to bring him home to their house when he’s released from the hospital, but Isabel reminds her it’s Diego’s house also. She’ll have to ask him.

Salas calls the guy who helped Diego and Isabel when they were in Arizona with the false identities. Salas mentioned that the guy works for the FBI. [Whoa! The feebs do things like this?] Salas says that the auntie is causing problems. And we see said auntie planning to hire an investigator after seeing the news about Emiliano Guevara having been involved in a shootout in a motel.

Isa, Amanda, and Ricas come home from the hospital just as Fernanda has wiped the last of the dog’s blood off the wall. In front of the kids she says she spilled some salsa, but tells Isa the truth.

Circe is bouncing on her bed and gloating over the success of the drug move. She wants Felipa to join in. But they find a painting that José spray painted with “He who laughs last, laughs best.” She calls the increasingly evil Joselito and tells him he’ll sweat blood for this. His reply: Te pasaste de lanza de eso del trailer y la merca falsa en el trailer. (You went overboard with the trailer and the false drugs inside.) She rightly tells him she completely outwitted him, and she’ll send the Colombians after him He says that he wants her nana not to see her in the same way. Gulp.

Isa thanks Fernanda sincerely for cleaning up before the children could see what was done in their home. Fernanda tells her they can’t continue to say there.

Isa tells Ricas Nico was hit by a car.

Porfi calls his father (probably for money for doctors), but Mateo doesn’t pick up.

I forgot. Did Disgusto know that José took Felipa or did he lie to Circe when she asked him about it? Disgusto does suggest that José may have gone to Babel.

Isa tells Diego that the Gaona cartel came, killed the dog, and covered a wall with the blood. But his mother cleaned it up. She is not happy with Diego and tells him that he told her the cartel wouldn’t bother them any more. Diego has a very guilty face.

Circe gathers up the former waitresses/sex-slaves and newly sharp-shootin’ women and says they’re going back to Babel to light up the place, clients or no clients.
 

FALSA IDENTIDAD – 2 de 3

The torture of Felipa is awful. It appears Joselito’s guys don’t like this much. He says something about a cuchara (spoon, yikes!). I’m not sure what the red-hot piece of metal is for and would rather not think about it.

Jim finds out from Erick that José is there and that they’ve heard female screams, like someone being tortured.

Marlene asks Diana to stay at a friend’s house for the night and then calls Fernanda to say that Augusto is home and she should come right over.

José calls Diego. [How come every single TN character has every single other TN character’s cell phone number?] He’s gloating over killing the dog, and then tells Diego he broke the agreement between them by crossing the border with Circe. He tells him he’s his new sombra (shadow) and is now after everything Diego has in life.

And, as if Diego hasn’t already had a really bad day, the Colombians show up at his house. [Thanks, Circe!] Isa is dumbfounded and wants them out of there. The head Colombian, J. J. Ibarra, addresses him as Diego, Romeo or Emiliano, not sure what to call him. Isa freaks out. [Just like Circe, they walked right in. Diego, I know a really good locksmith. I know he’d recommend dead bolts.]

Isa goes into the children’s room and puts a chair under the door. Amanda doesn’t miss her chance to rag on Diego about the whole thing.

Circe arrives at Babel with her girl gang. Jim is shocked. Ramona tells him Circe is Gavino’s daughter and they push into some big room. A gunfight breaks out. Circe’s Diablas shoot a couple of José’s thugs, but José himself is gone. He’s left Felipa’s eyeball in a cigar box.

Disgusto tells Marlene she can’t go to Babel. Marlene: “How do you know what these narcos are up to if you’re not with them.” Just as Marlene is about to call the dancers at Babel to warn them, the doorbell rings.

We see a terrific scene with Fernanda, Disgusto, and Marlene. Sonya Smith nailed it!

J. J. Ibarra tells Diego he wants him to keep helping Circe move drugs from Sonora. Diego gets it right away – Circe. The Colombians find out what the Gaona cartel (actually José, for his personal revenge) did at Diego’s house. They offer complete security for his family if he continues to work with Circe.

José is like a mad dog. We hear Felipa moaning from the back of the car. He keeps calling her tuerta (one-eye). Piochas is disgusted with the whole thing. I think he’s figured out that all this is about Circe’s rejection of Joselito. Felipa is dumped outside a hospital, and nurses come right away.
 

FALSA IDENTIDAD – 3 de 3

Disgusto shows a lot of his true colors in the scene with Marlene and Fernanda. At first he grabs Marlene’s arm, asking how she could do this to him. She says that of course it’s her business. He asked her to marry him, but he’s still married to this señora.

Fernanda moves in and delivers a hard, satisfying slap to Disgusto’s fat face. [Couldn’t Telemundo have come up with an older actor that we could remotely believe either of these women would have gone to bed with?] Fernanda then lights into him. She tells him that all the time he was swearing to her that he loved her, he was mixed up with…ésta, pointing to Marlene. “This could be your daughter.” Marlene puts her oar in, telling Disgusto to tell Fernanda what he told her, that their marriage was not working and that he was not happily married.

José tells Piochas he’ll recruit some new guys and blindar (shield) the border so Circe can’t cross with the drugs. He adds that he plans to kill Isabel and the children.

Disgusto tries to convince Marlene that he and Fer didn’t have much sex. Fernanda fires right back at him that she tried and was refused, and now she knows why! Ha! Disgusto, the dog, says in passing that no man would refuse sex. Fernanda calls him garbage.

When Jota Jota promises to protect his family, Diego shakes on it.

Fernanda keeps on ripping Disgusto. But she starts to cry. She says she gave him everything, put him ahead of her children, treated him like a king. [We sort of see that this is working on Marlene.] “You used me. You betrayed me. You abandoned me. You never loved me. You spent your time in this beautiful apartment that surely you bought with my money. My son threw you out because you betrayed him. You were working for the Gaona cartel.” We see Marlene’s jaw drop. Disgusto tells Fernanda it was a punishment living with her. As they almost start hitting each other, Marlene tries to interfere. Disgusto raises his hand to backhand her, but stops.

Diego doesn’t lie to Isa. He tells her that, if he hadn’t helped Circe, they’d have killed her. Isa: “So you didn’t think about putting me and my children at risk.”

Fernanda tells Disgusto that if Disgusto wants a divorce, she’ll sign the papers. But first he’ll have to appear before a judge about the money he stole and the mortgage that caused her to lose her home. Disgusto comes back threatening to reveal what Eliseo did to save Diego, who was wanted by the police. "You already lost one son; do you want to lose the other?" [If Marlene hasn’t seen through this scumbag after THIS, she’s beyond hope.]

¡Muchísimas gracias! novelera, for another superb recap, complete with some helpful Spanish. I'm embarrassed to see how much I missed in this episode. There's also so much I wish I had missed, esp. José's brutality toward Felipa.

Some things surprised me, such as the success of "the former waitresses/sex-slaves and newly sharp-shootin’ women" in their shootout with the Gaona guys. I still have a hard time believing that after next-to-no training, they were able to shoot down several of mad-dog José's thugs. And I think all the women escaped unscathed. More telenovela magic, I guess.

Yes, once again Diego's front door apparently has a welcome mat out front and an easily pickable lock. Too bad you couldn't reach Diego to recommend a decent locksmith. It's astonishing that the great strategist for getting across the border is so oblivious to security at home.

I loved your coverage of the scene with Fernanda, Disgusto, and Marlene. I agree that after this encounter, Marlene has got to realize what a slimebag Disgusto is. HOWEVER, I recall having similar thoughts more than once BEFORE this encounter, and each time, sensible Marlene went missing. Sigh. At any rate, it seems Disgusto may have a way to pressure Fernanda to be quiet about his fraud, especially since she now is beginning to feel more warmly toward Diego and more guilt about her earlier treatment of him.

yep, Joselito must be auditioning for one of the late night narco slots, the part that interests me is that Piochas and all are just waiting for the word to take him out, and Gavino has made Circe untouchable.

and Diego never disappoints when it comes to getting his foot in the door of any dangerous mess, I still think they should burn the passports and try for new identities.

yep Porfi is in bad shape, how long without a drink?

Marlene's idyllic life sure got flushed down the toilet and she never left room for any options, she looks a mess.

Disgusto is all bark and no bite, Salas has his laptop and must still have that incriminating video I'll bet, say where is he staying, a hotel?

I was thinking Circe should shut down Babel, that would be a major blow to her dad's cartel, but she only has eyes (still both) for Diego.

so Jim is now in the middle of a cartel war, there doesn't seem to be a time when he says, Enough!

Usually, I recap the Tuesday episode. However, there's no episode tonight. I'll try to put up a bare bones "here are some of the things that happened" for Wednesday's episode. Because of my schedule, I will NOT be able to do a real recap. However, we've had good results with other people adding to such bare-bones lists--a communal recap, as it were. I hope that will be the case this time, too.

Deb, I loved your having remembered that Salas has the incriminating video. Of course, I doubt that Marlene is going to see it any time soon. Disgusto did manage to score a point when he asked Fernanda where the proof was.

And I chuckled at the thought that Uriel might be auditioning for a role on the Narco Hour.

Juanita, I agree that it’s probably far too soon for Marlene to move out of the fancy apartment. I also doubt she’ll tell Diana the whole thing.

I kind of like Jota Jota. He’s a businessman. All he wants is for the product to keep moving. He’d probably kill Diego and his whole family if he’d refused to cooperate. But I don’t think he’d enjoy doing it.

And, again, I love, love, love Colombian accents. When watching the Pablo Escobar novela, I looked it up and found that the voseo verb form is used in some parts of Colombia, but not all. It’s quite common in the department (sort of like a state) called Antiochia. Nearly every Colombian portrayed in telenovelas uses el voseo.

To think that eons ago I had a soft spot for Joselito. What a descent into sheer evil.

The only thing I can think of for Isa to do is run. Diego means well, but I'm not sure the pragmatic JJ is a match for Joselito's crazy evil. If only Joselito's men would take a look at "Mutiny on the Bounty."

Poor Marlene. She's gotten so use to her upscale condo. It will be interesting to see her next step. She feels like a fool, but will she come clean about Fer's money being in her bank account?

IIRC, Gavino ordered Joselito to leave Circe alone. Taking out the eye of her nana is not leaving Circe alone.
 

Falsa identidad - Capítulo 40 - 1 de 2

Since this is going to run over onto a second page, I've put up a recap-like heading, but it's not a full recap. It's just a fleshed out list of some interesting things that happened in tonight's episode.

The episode opens with Marlene, Fernanda, and Augusto. A disgusted Fernanda tells Marlene, "This is the Augusto you're going to marry." Marlene tells her to stop. Fernanda then tells Augusto that she'll give him a divorce. She never wants to see him again. She warns him not to come near her son or her. She's capable of doing anything to protect Diego. She then wishes Marlene "Good luck. You're going to need it." And with that, she leaves. As soon as Fernanda has left, Disgusto turns in anger to Marlene. "You betrayed me. You doubted me. Tomorrow, I'll leave." Of course, Disgusto knows how to play Marlene. She asks him not to leave and to forgive her. Arrgh.

Circe and Ramona come to see Felipa in the hospital. Felipa says she knew something bad would happen, and it's better that it happened to her (Felipa). Circe tells Felipa that she is the only good thing she (Circe) has in this life. José is going to pay. Felipa then whispers something I didn't catch, and that the Santa Muerte is going to come, and Circe owes a death. I really don't understand much of this. Circe tells her that she no longer believes in the Santa Muerte. She believes only in herself.

Diego tells Isa that it's best that they end their relationship. He's a danger to her and to her children. It's best if she goes back to her normal life as Isabel. She doesn't agree with his conclusion, but she can't come up with any other solution. Diego says he has a lot he has to take care of, and he'll try to do so as soon as possible.

Diego also tells Fernanda that she should leave. He and Isabel are ending their relationship, and Fernanda should move to a safer place.

JJ, the Colombian drug lord, calls Circe tel tell her he's done what she asked. Diego has not only agreed, he has signed a contract. A delighted Circe gives the news to Ramona. She admits that Diego stipulated one condition: that they don't touch his woman. Circe is confident that once Diego starts working with her, he'll forget about "his woman."

For me, perhaps the best scenes in the episode involved Diana and Chucho. She arrives at Chucho's and tells him that she told her sister she was going to stay with una amiga, but "I lied. I want to stay here with you." "In the same bed?" Chucho asks. Diana replies, "Unless you want to sleep on the floor." She tells him, "We're novios. We can sleep together." He agrees. She gets into bed. He very carefully tries to get into bed without touching her. Diana asks, "Aren't you going to get under the sheets?" "With you?" he asks. He then gets under the sheets but turns so his back is to her. Diana then says, "My good-night kiss?" Chucho gives her a quick chaste kiss and says "Good night." Diana turns to him and starts to kiss him more forcefully. He pulls away, claiming that they should proceed more slowly. He finally says, "I want our first time to be special." Diana asks, "Do you mean our first time together? Because I've already had my first time, and I assume you have, too." Silence.
"Chucho, are you a virgin?" His look says it all.

In the morning, Disgusto and Marlene have clearly, um, reconciled. He tells her, "You pick the date, and I'll do the rest."

Fernanda tells Isa about her painful meeting with Disgusto and Marlene. She says that the only thing she has to do now is give Disgusto a divorce. "If I don't, he'll denounce Diego. I've failed Diego as a mother in the past. I want to protect him." Isa replies, "We both have to do this."
 

Falsa identidad - Cap. 40 - 2/2

Circe asks JJ to do her a favor: spread the word to the cartels in Mexico, Venezuela, and Colombia that she is offering a one million peso reward for the head of José Hernández Esparza, aka Joselito, the head of the Gaona cartel.

A taxi comes to take Fernanda to where Diego is staying. Diego is going to accompany her in the taxi. As the taxi is about to leave, Isabel rushes out to give Diego the false passports. "I'm no longer going to need them," she tells him. She's going to be Isabel. Diego says she can stop pretending to love him. She replies, "I can stop being Camila Guevara, but I'll always be the woman who loves you." He tells her she'll always be the love of his life. Lots of hugs and kisses. Isabel asks him not to leave. He reminds her it's best for her, and for the kids. He gets into the cab with Fernanda and they drive off.

Chucho tells Diana that he didn't sleep at all. He spent the entire night looking at her. He also tells her that once before, he had a novia. They didn't have sex. He was terrified that she'd become pregnant. That seemed to be what was expected in their town. Diana asks him whether he knows about contraceptives. Chucho tells her that the people in his town don't believe in contraceptives. They use other methods, less reliable ones. Diana makes it clear that when they have sex, they will use contraceptives.

As Diana and Chucho are talking, Diego and Fernanda arrive. Diego introduces Fernanda to Chucho and to Diana. Diana knows who Fernanda is, but she says nothing except "pleased to meet you."

Piochas talks with José about the cartel. Piochas feels that all the focus on Circe is just José's personal revenge and has nothing to do with the cartel. José disagrees. I missed most of the conversation.

Isabel, Amanda, and Ricas go to see Porfi in the hospital. He's about to be discharged. The doctor tells Isabel that he will need constant care, and he shouldn't be left alone, since he might fall again. As Isabel pushes Porfi in a wheelchair toward the hospital exit, she passes Circe pushing Felipa in a wheelchair. At this crossroads, the episode ends.

Thanks so much for that more than generous "fleshed out" description of last night's episode, Juanita! I almost expected one of those Nueva Etapa notices to appear, since our protagonists are entering a new phase.

I noticed that disgusting smirk on Disgusto after he'd played her like a fiddle. Marlene is just an idiot.

What Felipa said to Circe, IIRC, was that right after José took her eye she had a vision in which he died a horrible death.

Piochas kept trying to convince drunk-with-power José that they should visit Gavino in prison to bring him up to speed or, at the very least call him. José obviously wants him kept in the dark.

I hope the amount of flashbacks last night was a one-off. Telemundo has a bad habit of getting us hooked and then treating us to 20 minutes of what we've seen before to stretch things out.

I also enjoyed the scene with Chucho and Diana.

Diego's goodbye to Isa and the children was SO touching. He obviously adores Ricas. And he was very sweet with Amanda and even kissed her on the cheek. For once she didn't have the stone face.

I suspect Circe may want to gloat over getting Diego to work with her. Hope I'm wrong.

If I remember correctly half a million pesos was $26K - at least when Eliseo paid Mateo, so Circe is offering $52K for someone to off José. JJ seemed to think assassins might be reluctant to off the head of a cartel. Circe reminded him that he's NOT the head, just a lamebotas.

yep, Piochas wanted to let the boss know, nope, we could go see him, nope, we could send word, nope, we could call him, nope.

Fer and Isa will still get to see each other at work.

is Chucho anxious to earn some more money, looks like Diego's rules, no drugs, no killing, will be swept under the carpet as he falls deeper into Circe's crazy world.

I think JJ was concerned that Circe's bounty on Joselito would bring a bunch of unsavory people onto their turf, but as long as his merc crosses the border...,

this should make Jose's life a little more interesting.

narco's seem to follow Pablo Escobar's lead, that when things don't go your way, you up the stakes.

Chucho and Diana together was my favorite last night too. I sure hope nothing bad happens to Chucho. I knew Chucho was a virgin. Surprised Diana didn't, but then he is her first virgin.

I am down with Circe putting out a hit on Joselito. It's the only way to take him out. Anyone who'd go after a cartel head is as fearless and loco as he is.

Marlene, yep, she's just pitiful. I guess that tutu skirt is supposed to emphasize her head is in fantasyland.

Sorry I haven't been present for the last two episodes. With company and the only tv in the living room, it's hard to watch--and then get away to comment. I'll be up to speed by Sunday and will do better. Novelera and Juanita did a super job covering the episodes. I feel as though I've already watched them. Thanks folks.

Many thanks, novelera, deb, Niecie, and Anita. I've been out of the house most of the day, and I'm about to leave again. So I don't really have time to comment on your very interesting postings. Lo siento mucho. I really enjoyed them.
