This one went pretty quickly from scene to scene so I had a harder time keeping up with it all. Lots of activity around Velvet today!

Cris is so excited about her pancha even though she’s like two seconds pregnant, and she puts a hand on Barbie’s waist and asks how she feels. (Doubt she cares- she’s probably just looking for intel since she’s supposed to be at least a couple months along). Barbie tries to talk to her about how Al is still filing for divorce and Cris is like, no, because he wouldn’t give her what she demanded (the apartments and the Mexico atelier) so he has to stay with her. Barbie looks at her and might be realizing Cris is not entirely grounded in reality.

Ric talks to his sister and their parents miss them. Not sure why this is important.
.
And now all of a sudden Ric is watching a photo shoot and says something to Val, who tells him to get back to the clients.
.
Raul is back! Al gives him a welcome back hug and Mateo asks how he’s doing. He’s getting better but really wants to get back to work, and thanks them for letting him back. But he’s a friend now so of course he’s welcome back, and he says he’s learned his lesson, assuming about the whole internet dating thing.

Val and Enrique talk-slash-flirt. He asks if she’s jealous (the pics being taken were of him and Barbie) and she’s no because she has a boyfriend, Val2.
.
Mateo hands a check over to Clara’s mom and Clara tries to give it back to Mateo but mom gets the check in the end. She tells him he’s her favorite yerno, and I don’t like her. I hope the dad finds someone nicer in Miami.
.
Gloria has come to Val with some paperwork and demands that she sign to give Gloria back what is hers. Val hedges while Gloria and her henchman glare at Val1. She finally signs and Glroia immediately takes the papers back, and tells Val that she’s going to take Velvet to new heights. She says tother things but I think Val is either regretting signing or regretting not letting Gloria drink herself into oblivion. Or both.

Clara yells at Mateo about the check. He finally snaps and yells back that he’s tired of this and she never likes anything he does. He’s sick of it and maybe they shouldn’t get married. He storms off.
.
Mariana is someone I don’t know and she’s talking to Vic. Oh wait. She’s firing him on behalf of Cristina and he is not moving until he talks to his boss. He is going to harass Cris until he speaks to her directly. Looks like Cris won’t be getting rid of this baby daddy any time soon.

Val2’s mom has come to annoy Val1 again. She wants Val1 to arrange an end of year thing for some club? This doesn’t make sense. Not sure it made sense to Val1 either.

Al and Mateo enter his office and Gloria is sitting there ready to take over Velvet. (Too bad Val1 couldn’t hold off just a little bit longer). Al says he thought she wouldn’t ever be in front of him again after what she did to his mother, and she’s not going to be making any decisions. Gloria isn’t going to tolerate his insolence and he points out the door if she doesn’t like it. But she’s not going anywhere and will absolutely be in charge with the help of Cris. And then she makes it clear that she’s the one who told Cris about Ana.

Vic and Clara talk about him being fired. And she later fills Marga in and says there is something else going on but obviously isn’t sure what.

Val1 and Al talk about Gloria and how she spilled about Ana. Val is sorry about this, but he knows what she’s like. He wants to go after Glo about the imprisonment of Isabel but Val asks him not to. He says if she’s responsible then she has to pay. She says that if he goes after Gloria then their relationship won’t be the same. (Ugh). (Also she might need to be more into Val2 as a boyfriend because she’s going to need a change of scenery and probably a new job soon).

Jenny and Emilio have a nice conversation where she tells him how much she learned from him and how important he was to her.
.
Vic has found Cris and demands to know what’s up. She tells him she no longer needs his services. And he’s like what services? This? And he plants a big ole kiss on her. Blech. Cris is not happy about this and tells him to get his hands off her. Vic threatens to tell Al. She asks what he wants and he wants it all. Money. Power. Her. She laughs and says she’s a married woman. He talks about how important he is to her position and wants to keep on with their “thing” and remain a team. She grants him a raise but still won’t give in to his kissy moves. He happily leaves and she unhappily thinks about what to do next.

She later fills in Barbie about this and that she gave him a promotion to an executive position. While she’s talking, she’s ripping up something that she sets on fire. Not sure what it is. Barbie still looks worried. This might be her default now.

Mateo’s mom talks to Clara about presenting herself to society and changing her image. Clara’s like, this (pointing out her body) needs help? Emma says nah, she’s young, but needs some image improvement. Clara looks annoyed. Her default now until Emma moves to Florida.

Cris and Al talk. He says the marriage is over and she should sign the papers and she tries guilt, that he should be concerned with taking care of her and the baby. Instead he wants to leave her alone with the baby (and probably 5 nannies). She starts having pains (or faking?) and she does have a tummy. Did she shove a pillow under the dress while I wasn’t looking or is it just the way she’s sitting? Barbie is there too at the table and she and Al fuss over Cris as she has these pains. “Pains”?

Ric is on the floor when Pilar comes in to check out some of the clothes. Ric slides over to her and she says she knows he’s with her niece. He says he loves her. And then they talk about Sofia and her chance to study in London. He says she doesn’t have money and Pilar is like, You don’t think I don’t? And then she tells Ric he will never get to her level and there’s a lot of ragging on Ric. He says he won’t be humiliated and she keeps at it. She sucks.

Pedro finds Clara on the store floor and asks what’s up. She is super irritated because she’s wearing an ugly dress and a stupid little bow in her hair thanks to Dona Emma. She’s right to be mad. She looks terrible. Her sexy secretary look suits her so much better.

Gloria hasn’t harassed enough people today so now she’s going after Ana. She blathers on and Ana says she won’t listen to this and Gloria tells her, what? You going to go to HR? She wants Ana the heck out of Velvet.
.
Cris is crying about the baby and he wants to go with her to the doctors. She’s mad and says why? He wants nothing to do with the two of them (her and baby) and he calmly says that’s not true. She’s very upset but Al wants to be there for them. Cris still cries but probably because she doesn’t know how to get out of Al going with her to the docs and finding out she’s not all that pregnant.

Gloria is now strutting through the store until she’s stopped by Emilio who asks why she hasn’t greeted him yet. Emilio says imagine what people will think if they are able to prove what she did to Isabel. Way to poke the bear, Emilio.
.
Clara meets up with Vic and he tells her he is sticking around. He offers her a chocolate and she turns it down because they are for the bosses, or something. He says nope. It’s for anyone who is here. He giddily invites her to the bar. She is totally weirded out because he was so down earlier and now he’s on the top of the world. I miss his answer to her but Clara isn’t stupid and she knows something is up. But she doesn’t say no to the bar idea. She leaves, hopefully to change out of that dress Emma put her in.

Sara is back, meeting with Al. There is a party coming up? She tells him he can invite Cris, but he’s doesn’t think that’s a good idea.
.
Cris is in her office where she and Gloria talk. Gloria starts to reach out a hand to her waist and Cris walks away and asks her not to. She’s “not feeling well”, and Gloria empathizes.

Sara gives Al some advice about Cris not signing the divorce papers. She hits the nail on the head when she tells Al that Cris isn’t acting normally. She tells him to be very careful.

Cris, back with Gloria, talks about buying a house for the family? Yikes. Gloria says something about her only having 6 months left. (Gloria is going to figure this out before anyone).

Clara, still is the Dress, is drinking with Vic (drinking a lot), and spilling things about Cirs and Al. Vic says Cris seems obsessed with Clara and Clara says yep! She’s crazy about him. Vic appears to be mentally taking notes. This invitation for drinks had a purpose.

Ric tells Sofia that her tia tried to humiliate him and she asks why he didn’t tell her. He says it’s because she’s a Marquez. He tells her that working in a store is great! Until they fire you. Eating pizza every day is great! Until (something). Basically, he’s telling her that playing at working is not the same as having to work, and she’ll never understand. She’s mad at this and leaves him there. So this relationship might be over. For now.

Al tells Cris that what she feels for him is obsession and he tries to get her to see sense. She doesn’t. He tells her that trying to keep him from his baby is a manipulation and it’s not going to work. He says the world is how it is, not how she wants it to be. But he will be a good father and wants the baby, but not her. (That would be harsh if we didn’t know she had faked the pregnancy until recently). She says fine, then she’s not going to sign the divorce papers, as though that matters. He tells her that he is going to be with Ana regardless and he leaves. She is not happy. Her new default mood.

This one was a little tough to keep track of. Ultimas Semanas pacing. Sorry. So next week I'll be out of town with no tv or internet, probably just in time for all the good stuff to happen! I'll be looking forward to catching up on the recaps though.

I don't know what to think about Cris. She's not a good person and deserves what she's getting from Al and Vic, but also needed help that her dad never gave her. Villains are easier when they are more obviously bad (Gloria) but Cris is more interesting. Actually, Barbie has been more interesting to me lately. Curious to see how she handles the changes in her friend.

Thanks very much, K, for this delightful recap. I should mention that I'm
really glad you've started naming the parts 1 of 3, 2 of 3, etc. That
alerted me to the fact that part 3 of 3 was missing. I found it and restored
it.

I found it interesting that when Barbie mentions something about Vic's baby,
Cris gets somewhat upset and strongly insists that the baby is
Alberto's. In part, she says this to remind Barbie to say that the
father is Alberto, but Cris's vehemence suggests that she may have even
convinced herself that Alberto is the biological father.

IIRC, Barbie tells Cris that it's important that she continue to wear the
fake tummy, but Cris isn't so sure it's necessary. She says that Alberto
will never accept her lawyer's terms, and so he'll have to stay with her. As
she says this, her facial expression makes her look a bit crazy (with good
reason).

I was screaming at my TV when Gloria demands that Val sign a document giving
Gloria back everything that Gloria had signed over to Val. "DON'T SIGN!!!" I
screamed. Alas, she didn't listen to me. I don't really understand why she
didn't at least postpone signing until she could get a better sense of what
Gloria has in mind.

In a recent episode, Clara proved several times that she could see what was
going on more clearly than anyone else. And in the current episode, we see
that again. After speaking with Victor, Clara tells Marga that there's
something else going on here.

Victor, too, seems a lot smarter and more savvy than he did at first. When
Cris tries to fire him, he claims he'll tell her husband everything about
his relationship with Cris, including the fake tummy. He pulls out his
cellphone as if he's about to contact Alberto, and Cris changes her tune.

Cris also isn't doing so well with Alberto. Alberto tells her that he wants
to be part of the pregnancy, and if Cris refuses to let him go with her to
her visits with the OB/GYN doctor, he'll get a court order to authorize it.
(It's hard to know how much his actions indicate his concern for the baby
and how much is suspicion about the pregnancy.)

I'm also not sure whether the pains Cris claims to have are real or just a
bid for symppathy and attention.

K, when Emilio encounters Gloria late in the episode and asks her what
people will think if they find out what she did to Isabel, I loved your
saying "Way to poke the bear, Emilio." But poking the bear can be dangerous,
and I'm somewhat fearful about what might happen to Emilio.

Wow, Clara tells Victor that Cris and Alberto would have been divorced had
Cris not become pregnant. Victor finds this VERY interesting.
 

Bahar

Hats off to the writers for this episode! They had all these characters with all their individual reactions to what was unfurling – the interplay was so well done, so true to each character.

And we got lots of backstory! Timur’s unhappiness in his childhood home, saying if his mother had just divorced his father, a child wouldn’t have gone to the orphanage and a woman wouldn’t be dead. Then there was Evren’s and Dora’s childhood memories.

I do wonder in these shows why the characters decide to have dinner together in a restaurant when they know darned well the discussion they plan to have is going to be very heated. They should talk at home.

I wondered about the cake that Behar shoved Timur into. I’m thinking it was cardboard with icing on it. She pushed him very lightly and he came away with just some icing on him, no cake. Cakes are soft!

I think it’s too early for Dr. Evren to press his suit. Bahar is in a state of shock and barely hanging on.

Great job K, and Juanita added the things you questioned so I have little to add. I do have to comment on the wardrobe choices. I thought Rick telling Clara she looked like a poodle with the bow in her hair was spot on. Also about Rick, I think perhaps he told Sophie those things to drive a wedge between them so she will go get a college degree. I think Pilar's talk opened his eyes up to that being a good path for her (I tend to agree). I enjoyed Mateo chewing Clara out. She deserves it. Mom needs to go back to Miami and this is the easiest way to get rid of her.

I think Chris has the best role in this show. What a phenomenal actress. Ana is just a wishy washy extra IMO. We can blame it on the writers.

Val2's mom looked frumpy in her tan outfit. She needs someone to sell her nicer stuff from Velvet.

I would say maybe Carlos had been written out of the show but unfortunately he made an appearance in the trailer for tonight.

Yep, over and over we see Barbie looking worried at Cris's insistence Alberto will return to her because of the baby. Default expression was spot on.

I was glad to see Mateo actually losing patience with Clara. I expect the amount to save her parents' taqueria wouldn't ruin him financially and it would be great to see this woman go back to Miami! And that dress!!! Is Emma actually that clueless or is she trying to make Clara look awful so Mateo will reconsider?

Alberto never zips his lip when he should. He needs Valeria on his side. Why did he have to emphasize he'd be going after Gloria? Better to do it and say nothing.

It's been decades since I've seen the rubber belly trick used. I remember seeing one where the woman was showing 5 or 6 of them (steadily getting larger) to the female friend all villains need to have so we are in on the plot.

I was almost sure Cris was having a miscarriage when she seemed to have pains and was surprised that was apparently not the case. And, yes, Juanita, I also noticed the light bulb going on over Victor's head when Clara babbled about Cris getting pregnant to keep Alberto.

Cris is now hoist with her own petard vis a vis Victor.

Not much to add Maggie. I agree it is very well written. The fact I can get English CC's makes this easier to follow. If I have a doubt I rewind and change from Spanish to English.

Nevra is not a true to TN suegra. I would have thought she would have been more receptive to rich Rengin as a daughter in law. Of course her main motivation is not losing her house.. I think her former husband was cruel cutting his wife and son out of the inheritance though. Maybe they got money and he was making sure Bahar and the children would always have a roof over there heads.

I actually do have one question. Rengin's brother seemed to have been cut out of the inheritance. Was it found he was swindling from his dad. Rengin is really rich now so Nevra should suck up to her.

I was surprised Nevra wasn't wearing a chiffon scarf around her neck to hide her bandage. Looking for extra sympathy?

ITA, Kat, Carolina Miranda (Cristina) has the meatiest role on the show, and she is phenomenal.

You are 100% right, novelera, Albert never zips his lip when necessary. Liked seeing Cris hoisted on her own petard.

I’m worried that Carlos will use the current situation to get to Ana.

Mateo and Clara *yawn*.

I never thought that Rick would hold Sofi back from going to the UK for school. He’s not that kind of guy. He liked Luisa a lot and supported her when she wanted a singing career. As for his parents, I guess the visit means trouble because he’s mentioned a couple of times that they are very Catholic and very traditional. NYC/Velvet = den of iniquity.

 

Bahar

Darn I kept snoozing off, so I missed bits. And then I found out the episode didn’t tape! I wonder why.

But I was treated to both Nevra and Timur wallowing in their misfortune. Nevra caused so much trouble and just cries like a child who has broken the favorite vase and is now in trouble. Timur accepts the blame for what he did but why shouldn’t he get more chances? So there he is drinking away in a bar and who should come in but Dora. Why did she seek him out? Is she desperate for clients? Now she’s suddenly his lawyer and is looking pretty adversarial. Looking to make trouble for Bahar, who she now has figured out is Evran’s big love? If so, too bad, because she seemed really nice.

Looks like Bahar’s test results aren’t good. Uh oh.


 

Velvet ep. #71 p. 1 of 3

As the episode begins, Cris is talking to Alberto. She assures him that once
the baby is born, Alberto will come running back to her, begging her to
include him in the family. Alberto tells her it's not going to happen. The
world is how it is, not how she wants it to be. She insists that she won't
sign the divorce papers. Alberto replies, "Do what you want. Don't sign.
I'll be living my life with Ana. You do what you want." He leaves. She
picks up a ring (her wedding ring?) and throws it on the floor.

Alberto comes to see Ana. He tells her he came to see her to celebrate. "I
put my cards on the table. Cristina is not signing the divorce papers. But
it's just a piece of paper. We can't let it define our lives." Ana tells him
we have to stop. It wouldn't be fair to Cristina." Alberto replies that
Cristina is trying to control him, as if he's her puppet. Ana has said
nothing about how Cris has behaved toward her, but Blanca has told Alberto
about the abuse Cris has heaped on Ana. Ana reminds him that they agreed to
wait until he was divorced. He tells her that Cris won't sign the divorce
papers and has just been playing with the two of them. Cris knew all along
that her father paid him to marry Cris. Ana sees that as a sign of Cris's
love. Alberto says no, love doesn't destroy or manipulate or hurt. Love
protects. Alberto and Ana kiss.

Mateo tells Clara that Alberto has decided to go public with his
relationship with Ana. Clara says that Victor was asking her about Barbara
and Cristina's love life. Mateo asks, "Could he be interested in one of
them?"

We get more of Alberto and Ana in bed. They recall their first kiss. Alberto
tells her she kissed him--he was too scared. He says that she should be
Velvet's primary designer, not second in command. He also says that he's
been invited to the Sahguns' launch of their airline tonight, and she should
come with him.

The scene shifts to another kissing couple, Pedro and Marga. They're
interrupted by the unexpected arrival of her mother before they can get
undressed. She has brought food. They invite her to watch the movie they
claim they've been watching. She agrees, and as she sits down next to Pedro
she has two requests: 1) Start the movie from the beginning, and 2) move
over, because she doesn't like sitting next to strangers. (How could such a
person have two such decent daughters?)

Barb and Cris have apparently come from a doctor's office. Cris said the
doctor almost threw her out. Barb said she thought Cris wanted an exam, not
for the doctor to lie about her being four months pregnant. He could have
lost his license. Cris replies, "Everyone has a price. We just have to find
it." Cris looks jealously at Barb and says she wishes she had a large belly
like Barb's instead of a fake tummy. Suddenly Barb has stomach pains.

Gloria meets with Alessandro. She tells him he needs to go to the Florida
Keys and find a place as remote as possible. Why? Cris is obsessed with
Alberto and is emotionally unstable. "I need to get her away so I can take
control of Velvet."

Emilio comes to see Alberto in his office. He asks Alberto to take a look at
a document he hands him. Isabel had given the document to him a while ago.
It's a marriage certificate--the marriage of Benjamin and Isabel in Mexico.
The date is earlier than the marriage of Benjamin and Gloria. Thus, Isabel
was Benjamin's first wife and should have inherited his estate after he
died. Emilio tells Alberto, "Everything your father left to Gloria should
have gone to Isabel... At the very least, the document should enable us to
take control of Velvet."

Clara sees Victor at work. She asks him is he going home, or perhaps meeting
with someone from Velvet. Victor denies that he's meeting with anyone. Clara
warns him, "My radar never fails, Victor. Be honest with me. Is it Barbara?"
Vic denies that it's Barbara. Clara then asks, "If not Barbara, who?" He
tells her that from the moment he started working at Velvet, he had a
serious crush...on Barbara.

Sofia comes to see her Aunt Pilar. She tells Pilar, "Don't meddle in my
life any more. I'm not a nepo baby." Pilar asks her what a nepo baby is.
Sofia replies, "it's a girl who gets what she wants because of her family.
Nepotism." Pilar says that she's only trying to help Sofia get what she
deserves so she can prepare for her future. Sofia tells her she doesn't want
any money that comes from Fast Fashion or from destroying the planet or
exploiting poor third world workers. She also asks Pilar to leave Rick
alone. "His life hasn't been easy, and he's important to me." Sofia then
gets up and leaves. Pilar sits alone, somewhat pensive.

Gloria tells Cris that she has sent an agent to the Florida Keys to find the
house you've asked for, one with four bedrooms, a guest room, a pool,
Jacuzzi, etc. etc. And, of course, price is no object. Gloria starts to say
something to Barbara when suddenly Barbara'cries out and her water breaks.
Gloria says Barbara needs to get to the hospital. Cris bends over to pick
something up and her fake tummy falls out. Oops. Gloria and Cris glare at
each other.

Rick apologizes to Sofia. "I didn't mean to offend you. I'm very sorry.
You're very important to me." Sofia tells him that she's staying with him
because he makes her very happy. They kiss. (I was more taken with their
kiss than with Ana and Alberto.)

At the hospital, Gloria tells Cris "I never imagined you'd pretend to be
pregnant to hold onto Alberto." Cris replies, "I don't have to give you an
explanation." Gloria tells her, "I'm not judging you. Quite the contrary. I
think it's valid for you to do this to retain what's yours. I'm your ally,
not your enemy." This placates Cris enough for her to tell Gloria, "I'm
pregnant, but not months like everyone thinks, only a few weeks." Gloria
seems taken aback. "So you got pregnant after you told Alberto that you were
expecting a child? That's a risky decision. I need to know more so I can
support you." Cris replies, "After I told Alberto I was pregnant, I went
away for a month with Barbara. I had to find a way to make the dates add up
with our last time together." Gloria then asks, "May I ask who the father
is?" "Alberto," replies Cris. "Let's just say it's Alberto."

Alberto meets with a lawyer about the marriage certificate Emilio gave him.
The lawyer tells him they have to validate it in Mexico. Assuming there's no
problem, we can invalidate Benjamin's will, and Gloria would lose her share
of the inheritance. As for Valeria.... Alberto says he should leave Valeria
out of all this. Focus only on Gloria.

As we all knew he would, Carlos reappears. He comes to see Ana at work. She
is looking at something about Cloud Airlines on her phone. He tells Ana that
the Sahguns are having a party (to celebrate their acquiring a Cloud
Airlines plane??). He asks Ana to come with him. He assures her it's not a
date. They're just friends. She tells him someone else has already invited
her. Carlos guesses Alberto. Ana tells him Alberto is leaving Cristine.
Carlos asks her what makes her think that this time Alberto will keep his
word? She tells Carlos it's none of his business. Carlos responds, "The
heart is not always the best advisor. I suppose I'll see you there tonight."

As Carlos is leaving Velvet, he encounters Alberto. He tells Alberto, "You
can't erase your past." (Perhaps he should address his remarks to himself.)
He claims Alberto will be dragging Ana into a life of suffering. Alberto
asks, "Carlos, when will you understand that Ana doesn't love you?" Carlos
replies ominously, "Perhaps. but life can be long for some and short for
others. Anything can happen. I'm not a gracious loser."

I assumed that Barbie was having a miscarriage, but we now see Barbie in a
hospital bed holding her new daughter, Loourdes. Gloria comes to see her and
congratulate her, and she asks where Enrique is. With what I would imagine
is some bitterness, Barbie replies that if the baby had been a boy, Enrique
would have celebrated, but since it's a girl, he had business to take
care of.

We get another glimpse of the weird, sick side of Carlos. He's been drawing
rather ugly designs on a piece of paper that also has ANA written in block
letters several times. He says out loud (I think) "Ana, you can't push me
aside so easily. You are mine!

Meanwhile, Cris is dressed in what is probably an absurdly expensive long
jeweled gown, ready to go to the Sahguns' party. Gloria will go with her.
Cris says, "I'm going to take back what is mine." Gloria asks whether she's
sure she wants to go. Alberto will be there with the seamstress.

Rick and his sister are together. Suddenly their parents arrive. I don't see
the point of this, and it's getting late, so FF>>

At the party, Cris comes over to Ana, whom she calls Anita, and tells her
that she's not the only one Alberto has slept with. She points out Sara
Sahgun as another. Ana doesn't believe her. Alberto sees Cris and Ana
together and heads over to them. Cris makes a few more snide remarks and
then leaves. Ana asks Alberto, "Is it true that you and Sara Sahgun are
lovers?" And on that note, the episode ends.

 

Bahar

Things got lively now that the cat is out of the bag! Bahar looks shell-shocked about Aziz leaving her everything. I am glad she has a tough lawyer.

I was really liking Dora, but not if she goes after Bahar. Her motivation might be to keep Evren away from Bahar. If she is really this sneaky, did Evren/Ali spot these qualities back in the day? Growing up as an orphan might require serious street smarts. She would exploit Bahar’s good will, which we see as a genuine, kind soul, looking for fairness. Street smart Dora would see these as exploitable weaknesses. I think I saw Evren watching her, with a thoughtful expression.

Timur’s reaction to his mother’s loss of big bucks to a con man was entertaining to watch. He is getting battered daily with bad news. It must be taking an emotional toll. He grew up with negativity. I’d like to see him get a break.
I wonder if he and Evren will ever reconcile. They were close until Evren was given away. Why was Nevra so quick to get rid of Evren/Ali? My pet theory is still that they are brothers! Timur could use a positive relationship in his life. Might come from Rengin, who has brief bouts of kindness. Or perhaps Evren. Or both!

I also like Dora and I wonder if she is being sneaky as she offers herself as Timur's lawyer. Maybe she is looking for dirt to use against him to help Evren. This show likes to give us some mysteries.

I don't think the 2 are brothers. I think his sister was raising Evren. Perhaps she was Timur's Nanny or a live in housekeeper that allowed her to bring Evren with her.

One minute Bahar wants nothing from Timur except her school tuition paid, then she finds out they have treated her like a slave in her own home and she changes her tune. Any idea how much 35 million is supposed to be? I always feel this is a banks problem by not doing due diligence when they give a loan. I do understand she does not want her name on the loan though. Seems like selling the house would solve that problem and she claimed she didn't want the house in the first place.

I think Dora has a thing for Evren. It seems odd she waited so long to contact him. Now she keeps popping up. I also think she's signed on to be Timur's lawyer to perhaps help him as he tries to hang onto his marriage. If he stays married to Bahar, things aren't so smooth for the Bahar/Evren relationship Viewerville wants.

35 million Turkish lira is around $875,000, so Timur is in a pickle. I was surprised he went to Rengin so quickly, broadly hinting about the financial mess his mother put him into.

Wonderful recap, Juanita! ITA about the kissing. I have no idea why the two protagonists kiss like they're devouring each other, but it just looks weird to me.

Amen about Clara and Marga's mother! She got the big bucks from Mateo so why is she still in NYC? Could she be scamming Mateo and not giving the money to her husband in Miami for the taqueria?

I'm a little confused about Gloria and the house in the Florida Keys. It sounded at first to me like it was all Gloria's idea, but later they showed Cris being OK with Gloria's choice. Why would Cris want to leave NYC to Alberto and Ana for their time together to flourish? Speaking of flourishing, are we to be treated to a pregnant Ana?

How could Clara suspect Barbara of being the one Victor desires? Vic just arrived on the scene a month ago, and Barbie has been visibly pregnant much longer than that. Do guys lust for women pregnant by other men?

Yep, we got a Crazy Carlos scene. He also said the famous words: "If I can't have you no one can."

I know that Rick's sister whose name I can't remember is gay and problems were mentioned when she showed up in NYC about the ultrareligious parents not accepting that. They also would probably have a problem with Rick and Sofía cohabiting.
 

Velvet #72 part 1

Ana gets confirmation from Samantha that she and Al were lovers a while back. Sam tries to justify it by her free love m.o. she tells Ana sex and love aren't the same thing. Ana walks away in tears. Carlos to the "rescue".

Rick's parents assume daughter is the seamstress and rave over the sewing machine in Rick's apartment. They ask how Rick is doing at the car dealership. Good, lots of clients he says. Sofia lets herself in, Rick introduces her as his novia.

Emilio is questioning Al about what happened. Al is at his apartment looking for Ana, I presume. Al tells him she found out something. Chris gatecrashed the event. She told Ana I had a fling with another woman. Emilio says but that's not true. Al's like Ana was with Carlos and I felt awful so I went to a bar drinking and Sara showed up. It was only once he whines. Emilio tells him this is inpardonable. Poor Ana. Ana has turned her phone off and isn't answering. He tells Al if anything happens to her it's your fault.

Next morning (where did they spend the night?)Carlos is giving Ana some pretty good advice about love and relationships. Too bad he's a psycho. She doesn't know how she is supposed to feel. He suggests fashion week is coming up and I have to for work. He invites her along to Paris.

Chris taunts Al about not being with Ana. He blames her and that she is enjoying his pain She tells him of course. Now you know how I've felt. Al tells her he wants her out of his house, doesn't want to live under the same roof as her.

Ana agrees to go with Carlos right after the velvet launch. They shake hands on it.

Chris tells Al he can't make her go, it's Gloria's house. Al knows it's Gloria that's been giving Chris advice. Gloria ruined my mother's life, she's only using you. Chris doesn't want to talk about ancient history. Chris insists Gloria is on her side. Chris says she's the only one who cares about me. Al tells her teaming up.with her will only bring you problems. Why don't you move into that house we bought(so it hasn't been forgotten by the script writers). Or I'll go and you can stay here. He leaves.

Rick and sister are asking Emilio for help. Can you pretend I work here for a few days while they are in town. They only came to check on us. Emilio advises nothing good comes from lying. Uh oh, the parental units enter Velvet through the revolving door.

Clara's future suegra comes to the office to drag Clara off for a taste testing for the wedding reception. Mateo wals in. Well mama suegra is actually on top of things, the caterer (her friend) is bringing the selections to them.
 

Velvet #72 part 2/4

Val needs some jewelry for advertising purposes she demands from Enrique. He then hits on her. Heavy kissing (not the gross Ana/Al variety thankfully). Saved by the phone..it's Val2. Val1 grabs it and tells Enrique to stay away from her, she's made her choice.

Sara visits al.at his office. They hug affectionately. I dozed through this scene but it ends with Al saying he doubts Ana will forgive him.

Back to Rick's folks. They want Emilio to take daughter under his wing. And they are going to the dealership tomorrow to see Rick's place of work.

Victor tells Chris his jewelry campaign is ready to go live. She tells him Barb is on it ( no maternity leave for her?). Victor points out how poorly things went last time she was in charge. Chris tries again to get him to leave, with severance and that million dollars. He tells her he's the one setting the terms. He sends her a photo of them post coitus in his bed. Oh he also has some photos of her putting on the fake belly. She attacks him for his phone as he laughs at her. She says I'll kill you as they tussle. Enrique breaks it up. Chris explains the fight, my fault you know how I get. He showed me some photos for the new catalogue I didn't like.victor leaves.

Taste testing is in progress. Too much is upsetting Clara and Mateo's stomachs. Rush to the bathroom.

Enrique tells Chris he never liked that Victor. You fired him but he's still here. Chris says I had an affair with him. I thought you were madly ino e with Al. Chris laughs, don't preach morals to me. You and Val, remember! She admits he's pretty much blackmailing her. Enrique tells her how stupid she was. He's in charge now of getting rid of Victor.

Ana in the atetier crying (again). Al comes in to apologize. Ana gives him what for. I don't know if I can ever trust you again. I never slept with anyone else, not even Carlos. By the way I'm going to Paris for fashion week with Carlos.

Carlos and Chris are at their favorite restaurant for this show. She tells him Al and Ana were going public last night. Carlos says well she was upset about something. Chris laughs, I told her about Al and Sara. Carlos thinks they should team up.

Clara and Mateo have mostly recovered. Clara says your mom is going way overboard. I just want a simple wedding. Mateo says that won't fly, social life and keeping up appearances is her life. That's why I never told her about my dad. Clara hints she'd like to know that story. Mateo begs off, I want to forget that time. It was a sad time, especially for my mom. That's why he hasn't opposed the big wedding having her in charge is a distraction for her.

I too was a bit confused about the house in the Florida Keys. Gloria had made it explicit to Alessandro that Cris was emotionally unstable and hence Gloria wanted her far away when Gloria made her move to take over Velvet. The writers haven't made it clear why Cris is OK with having a house in the Florida Keys. I'm not sure whether we've missed something or the writers are at fault.

Hmmm...I'm not sure what I think about the idea of a pregnant Ana. Since Ana and Alberto are the major couple in the novela, I suppose it makes some sense to end with Ana and Alberto back together and in love, and Ana pregnant. But at the moment, that seems a bit rushed/forced to me. I guess we'll see.

I just loved the re-enactment of Timur and Bahar’s wedding, with the voice overlay of how they felt about it and their future, and then the summary of a marriage. Wonderful writing, thoughtful stuff. I think I’ll watch it again.

I sure didn’t expect Timur to accuse Bahar of unfaithfulness at the trial. That was rotten, and an almost-hug in the garden doesn’t compare to decades of cheating and an out-of-wedlock daughter. It was really something that still everyone was talking when they gathered at Evren’s office to hear about her needing a new transplant. And there was Timur waffling as usual, wanting her back and stalling Rengin who of course was furious. She sure fell in love with the wrong guy. Timur’s character is very complex. He's a weak man, not an evil villain.

I can well imagine Behar doesn’t want a piece of him inside her. Did we find out whether Evren is a match or not?

Chris tells Victor her brother is getting suspicious. He negotiates for 3 million. She agrees. Make it 5 he then says. He says you give me the 5 million and I'll disappear.

Ana is pouring her heart out to Raul.

(My CC's disappeared. I got too tired and went to sleep. Now I'm awake and continuing this, poof they're gone. And I have a hard time with Al's accent so sorry for any errors).Gloria is summoned to Al's office. His lawyer is with him. They show her the marriage certificate and tell her she wasn't legally married and thus is not the heir to anything. (If Ben had a will that specifically left her things I have questions!). Gloria claims it's a false document. Gloria tears it up. It was a copy they tell her. He tells her you will pay for all the pain you caused my mother. Gloria rages she was a nobody, an assassin. I think Al tells her the truth will come out as to the true killer. Gloria tells him it's mine and storms out

Well I probably could have finished this in 3 parts but at the halfway point it was looking like 4. Blame it on being too tired and losing the captions.

Val visits Al in his office. Can we talk. He supposed her mother told her everything. Val agrees, I'm your sister. Well I guess she didn't tell her all, as Al tells her about Dad's prior marriage. Oh you knew. For how long he asks? It came out when she was a drunk. Al reassures her he's not after her shares. Also I've asked Chris to leave. Darn, more stuff he mumbles that I didn't understand.....yay, back to Queens we go.

And Victor is getting mauled by two thugs in what appears to be a parking garage of I think the velvet apartment building. One calls his boss, Enrique. It's done. Meanwhile Victor has stumbled to his feet and takes off running. The thugs pursue him. Enrique looks perturbed.

Rick and sister come home to irate parents. We found this under your bed (ok, time to kick them out, what a meddlesome pair). A contract for dj Lopez at some bar! What does this mean Angie? Rick chimes in its my contract. My car dealership job fell through and I'm doing this now. Mom has to sit down in panic. See I warned you (to her spouse) NY is a center of perversion. (This storyline must be filler because it's dumb ). Angie (thankfully mom called her by name finally) looks upset.

Clara sees a bruises and battered Victor In the hallway. He asks for help and she lends a shoulder for him to lean on and takes him to her apartment where another busy body mom is still in residence. Mom suggests calling the police, Victor says no. In my half asleep early watching did I miss that Victor told Clara about his affair? At any rate mom is sent for the first aid kit and Clara asks is this because of your job and refusing to leave. He says yes. Don't tell anyone about what happened. Did he tell her she could be in danger? I wish I had captions!!!

Oh, that's right, he claimed it was Barb he was interested in. Clara is tending his wounds. Blood is on his shirt but though it appears it's from a head wound there was no blood on his head in the previous scene. The makeup department were stingy in their fake blood use. Margarita comes home. Oh wow, what happened. You called the police, why isn't he in the hospital. Mom says the same.(have you received an ER bill lately? I wouldn't go either unless I'd been shot, knifed or had broken limbs.). Clara tells them both to stop. He's fine. Margarita says so your a medical expert now? Clara tucks him under a blanket on their couch and they leave him alone. Meanwhile he fingers a thumb drive and tucks it into their couch cushions. His insurance policy? Hope mom isn't as nosy as Rick's parents and checks the couch for loose change daily.

Another scene with Al, this time with Mateo. He tells him I kicked Chris out of the apartment then moans (mumbles) something about Carlos and Ana. Now he's saying something about Gloria and how he's in charge of Velvet.

Ana fingers one of the origami cranes. Emilio asks how she's doing. She's confused, sad. Yesterday it looked like I was finally going to get my happy ending and now I'm heartbroken. Emilio tells her I saw Al. He was looking for you. He tells her what he did was serious but you should talk to him (I think). Then he tells her he gave all the papers from Isa.

Sara, sigh. Instead of just telling Ana that Alberto had a drunk one-nighter with her, she had to babble on about open relationships being the better ones. Read the room, Sara! Naive Ana is not going to find that comforting.

I enjoy every time Alberto lets delusional Cris have it. OK, you won't move out, so I will. And he called her on working with Gloria to damage Velvet AND come up with ways to spoil his relationship with Ana.

What are the odds Telemundo springs for some Paris scenes before this grinds to an end? I think the odds are pretty slim.

My FF>>> finger gets itchy every time we get the Mateo/Clara scenes. I had the impression maybe the laughable amounts of seafood might have been "off", causing the audible stomach rumblings. If I had that woman in my future as a MIL, I'd run the other way.

Rick's parents represent another dated thing about the plot. Rick sells high end clothing in a store where dresses are likely thousands of dollars each. Commission, anyone? He's probably doing better than he would at a car dealership. But the two just keep on making up more and more lies.
