Kara Para Ask – Black Money Love – Amor de contrabando
Episode 76 #1

Elif is in her creepy jail cell.
An envelope appears. She reads the contents, a declaration of guilt for laundering money for her to sign:
…I declare that I’ve laundered money in foreign countries and I profited from this. Also, I state that I formed a romantic relationship with Omer Demir just to clean my name and that I abused the justice system. This I solemnly declare as truth.
Elif grabs the bars in anger: Who left this here? Who’s there? I demand to see my lawyer right now. Who’s out there? Listen! Is there nobody out there?

Omer [looking oh, so handsome, I must say] is meeting with a different DA, who appears very bored and is clicking his pen open and closed.
And so, your Honor, in conclusion, our main suspects were Tayyar Dundar and Fatih Dundar, in other words, Tayyar Dundar and his son Fatih Dundar were working together.
DA: I hope you have very solid evidence to prove these claims.
Omer: Only that they were doing illegal transplants, but our primary witness was poisoned and died.
DA: Do you have the autopsy report?
Omer: Yes, we do, your Honor. But who killed him? We haven’t yet been able to prove the connection between this murder and Tayyar Dundar, but we’re continuing to investigate it, so your Honor, if there is laundered money, which there is, there must be an organization and illegal business behind it and Tayyar Dundar is at the head of …
DA, interrupts: OK, that’s fine. Enough. I understand
Omer: But I haven’t finished yet.
DA: But I’m finished listening, OK? Without any solid evidence, the things that you just told me are only unproven claims. I can’t waste my time with that.
Omer: But, your Honor, for days and for months I’ve…
DA, interrupts again: Our interview is over, Mr. Omer. Your report will be under review for three months. After that, we will make a final decision.
Omer: Your Honor, I’m just trying to…
DA: Enough, you can go. Good day!
They stare at one another for a bit.
Omer: You, too
Omer leaves. The DA gives him the side eye on his way out.

In front of the police station, we see Husseyn leave the station. Arda approaches him.
Husseyn: What’s happening? Where were you?
Arda: Good morning. I’ve been up all night doing research with Pelo.
Husseyn: Did you find anything?
Arda: No, they’ve been good at hiding their tracks.
Husseyn: And my brother was with the attorney until morning. Ah, I wish I could retire and put a newsstand here with two care tables and play backgammon until the evening. This job is putting years on me.
Arda: Omer will pull himself out of this. One lead will be enough for him to sort it out.
Husseyn: How can he pull himself out of it? The doctor said he has to rest. This is more serious that we thought it would be, Arda.
Arda: Who do you think the rat is amongst us?
He stares directly at Husseyn.
Husseyn: There isn’t a rat amongst us, Arda.
Arda: I’m saying that if you suspect someone, we could uncover him you know.

Episode 76 #2
Husseyn: I don’t suspect anyone. If you do, then tell me who.
Arda: I also don’t.
Husseyn: Good. See you later.
Arda: Where are you going?
Husseyn: Do I have to give you an explanation?
Arda: No, of course not. I was just asking in case the chief asked me about you.
Husseyn: If Chief Ali asks about me tell him that I had things to do and then I’ll be back once I finish them. If he complains, tell him to phone me. Is that OK?
Arda nods and Husseyn walks away.
Arda starts to walk after him.
Husseyn: Where are you going? Weren’t you going to see Omer?
Arda, thinking on his feet: I’m going to buy some simit to eat with Omer.
Husseyn: Yes, take him some simit and buy some cream cheese with them. The calcium will be good.
Arda orders four simit to go from the street vendor.
Husseyn is watching him in his rear-view mirror.
Arda takes the bagels and walks back to the station, while Husseyn backs out to leave.
Surprise [not], Arda comes right back out and gets in a taxi to follow Husseyn. He shows his badge to the driver (who is startled) and tells him to follow that car and not to lose it.
In his car Husseyn gets a call. He says: I’m on my way, I’m coming. I’ll be there soon.

Tayyar and Fatih are having some father-son time fishing with rod and reel from the pier. Tayyar is teaching him sort of. Fatih: With this knowledge, I could catch a shark.
Tayyar brags that the rod is the best money can buy. Fatih says it isn’t working and Tayyar says it’s probably because he didn’t tie it like he showed him.
Fatih: You see, even with all that money, it just doesn’t happen. So we can see that money can’t solve everything.
Tayyar looks almost human as he ponders what Fatih just said: Right, but this fishing business is all about luck.
Fatih moves over toward Tayyar and asks him to move over because he doesn’t have enough space.
Tayyar: Just call me father son. Why are you wiggling around about that.
Fatih: It doesn’t matter what I call you. The important thing is how I feel and I don’t feel that way yet.
Tayyar: I know why you’re feeling like that. Out last name’s the same but in your ID document it gives you my brother’s name instead of mine. Even on the papers I’m not your father. But I’ll fix that. I’ll include you in my inheritance. I promise.
Tayyar smiles.
Fatih: You still think I’m after your money, don’t you?
Tayyar: I know that is not true. You want trust and compassion.
Fatih is about to burst out laughing now.
Tayyar: You’re right to want that. It will be in time. Soon enough you’ll understand the value of your family. Your father, your sibling. A family does everything for each other. A father especially does everything for his child. And the child does the same. Now, if you’re hurt, I’ll burn this world down. (Fatih gives a skeptical side-eye here).
Fatih: It seems like you’ve forgotten that you were going to kill me.
Tayyar: That was in a moment of rage. That’s my biggest mistake. I’ll always have to live with that pain. But now, I’d die for you without even saying a word and very much hope that you’d do that for me. For example, if one of organs were to fail, you’d give me yours, right? I really think you would.

Episode 76 #3
This gets Fatih’s full attention: So that’s what this is all about. You need an organ, don’t you? All this playing at being a father and son is because of that. What do you want, huh? A kidney, a liver, what do you want?
Tayyar: Really. What a story you’ve just composed. You have a wild imagination. Good. We’re going to get to know each other better this way, I’m sure.
Fatih: We will, yes.
Tayyar: Oh, I caught one.
Fatih watches him reel it in, just like he has been trying to reel in Fatih.

At the courthouse, we see Omer cautiously open the door and peek out into the hall. He quickly closes the door when he sees the DA go out another door and ask where the bathroom is. The guard takes him there and Omer quickly takes the opportunity to go into his office. He goes through several legal papers and then finds two plane tickets and a surgical mask in his briefcase. The DA comes out of the bathroom and has the guard accompany him back to his office. Omer finds more documents. He takes photos of these. He hears the DA approach, telling the guard that he doesn’t want to be disturbed for a while. He enters to find Omer squatting on the floor, saying: I dropped my lighter. It was from my father. I would have really been sad if it has gone missing. That’s why I came back and nobody was here. It seems like I was here without permission, doesn’t it? Well, I’m really sorry.
DA doesn’t’ look convinced as Omer walks out and immediately goes to his desk to see if anything is missing. It all looks like he left it, but he is concerned.

Back to the father-son fishing outing:
Fatih: Today wasn’t that good. We didn’t catch much.
Tayyar: Fishing needs patience you know. You’ll learn to be patient in life, too.
Fatih: Right.
Tayyar: Come on, I’ll give you a ride home. We can chat on the way.
Fatih: You said I wasn’t your prisoner, but you won’t leave me alone.
Tayyar: Are you misreading me?
Fatih: I don’t want this. I’ll go by myself.
Tayyar: Actually, if I didn’t have this meeting that I cannot delay, we could have walked like father and son.
Fatih: I don’t want that. We would have been overdosed with togetherness.
Tayyar: I always like that imagination of yours. That’s one of my good qualities that you got from me.
Fatih: Sure, sure.
Tayyar: Take care of yourself and say hi to Mom for me. Goodbye.
Fatih watches him get in his van to leave. After he drives off, Mert appears. The brothers stand, staring across the street from one another. Then they meet in the middle of the street.
Fatih: So, you followed us. Were you jealous when I said I was going fishing with my father?
Mert: We have to talk. They walk together to the side of the street.

Arda is following Husseyn by taxi. He observes Husseyn stop under a big bridge and tells the taxi to stop. The taxi driver tells Arda he really hopes there won’t be any shooting because he has five children.
Arda: Relax, sir, it’s not going to happen, at least not now.

Back at the station, Omer is watching to see what the DA will do next. To his surprise, Elvan struggles up the stairs: Oh, my son!
Omer: Mother, what are you doing here? You even took the stairs.
Elvan: I’ve come to see you and Elif. You didn’t tell me anything.

Episode 76 #4
Omer gets her to sit down.
Elvan: I saw it on the TV. How’s Elif? Have you seen her at all?
Omer: They took her away from me. They won’t even let me see her. I have no idea how she is.
Elvan: Don’t worry. They’ll let her go.
Omer: It’s all my fault.
Elvan: Don’t talk like that, my son.
Omer: It is, Mom, it is. I did it in front of everybody’s eyes. I should have been more careful. I put Elif in danger. Man is blind sometimes. The documents override the truth. Mom, all I have is what I believe in, my love and my profession. But they’re too powerful. I see that now.
Elvan: Listen, nobody’s more powerful than Allah. He’ll give you the strength that you need. You shouldn’t give up. You should keep your hope alive. Listen, to me. If you don’t give up on Elif and if you and Elif don’t stop fighting, for it, you’ll see everything will turn out alright in the end.
Omer smiles at this: Mother, you’re the best mom in the world.
Elvan: Look what I brought for you.
She has a carrying case: I put food in it for Elif and I knitted a jersey for her as well. It’ll keep her warm. Take this to her. (She gives him a small item that he kisses three time, so I think it must be a religious item.) Tell her not to give up hope.
Omer notices the DA heading out of his office for the stairs to leave in a hurry. He tells Elvan to go home because he has to do something quick. You can leave those with Nadid. I’ll call you.
He heads down the stairs to follow the DA.

Mert and Fatih are visiting, overlooking the water.
Mert: Nilufer wants to talk to you about Elif.
Fatih: So, where is she?
Mert: At home.
Fatih: Then she can’t talk to me,
Mert: I’ll get her out somehow and you can meet. No one will see you. Don’t’ worry, she won’t tell Omer about it. She just wants you to help her.
Fatih: I think you must be losing your mind. You’re giving Nilufer to me with your own hand? Is there something more to this? What kind of a game are you playing?
Mert: No crazy, we’re [not] playing a game. I love Nilufer, I do, (Fatih is not very happy at this.) Of course, you don’t understand this kind of love. You don’t have any idea how real love it. (Fatih considers this.) The real man asks for help even from his enemy for his lover’s sake. Do you understand that? That’s all it is.
Fatih: How lucky you are Fatih. Your brother is both a rebel and a loser and has a poetic soul.

We the DA walking quickly on the street, followed by Omer at a safe distance. The DA gets into a taxi and Omer runs to catch another one. He tells the driver to drive!

In her gross jail cell, Elif is reading the statement they want her to sign. She paces back and forth. She goes to tear it up but hesitates.
Elif: Dam you all!
Just then a guard enters with another prisoner, who appears to be a lady of the night.
Elif tells the guard she wants to see her lawyer. She asks when the DA will give her a hearing.
The guard tells her they will let her know when the time comes.
Elif asks her who left the paper for her.
The guard tells her that if she keeps talking like this, she’ll never see the attorney.
Her cellmate looks at her carefully.

Episode 76 #5
Cellmate: How much did you pay for this, (fingering Elif’s clothing)?
Elif: Don’t touch me.
Cellmate: Sorry, you’re not so friendly, are you? I was just trying to chat, my dear Elif, just trying to chat.
When she says her name, Elif turns to look at her: How do you know my name?
The two stare at one another for awhile.
Cellmate: I’m Saded. They’ve sent me to you as a messenger. I know a lot of things.

Back to Arda following Husseyn in a taxi. The driver asks how long they will have to wait. His shift is nearly over.
Arda: Don’t worry. The meter is still running. I’ll pay that, and if it’s not enough, I’ll pay more.
Driver: Give me some of your simit, then, it smells so delicious.
Arda gives it to him.
Finally, he sees another car drive up beside Husseyn’s. Husseyn gets out and gets in the other vehicle. Arda can’t make out the other driver. He asks the taxi driver if he can see. The driver makes a joke that Arda should have brought binoculars instead of simit, although he admits he is enjoying the simit.

Omer follows the DA to a hospital. The DA is carrying a briefcase that might have money in it. The DA waits for an ambulance to arrive. There is a young relative of the DA’s, probably his daughter, in the ambulance. He strokes her head affectionately. The medics carry the stretcher into the building, with the DA holding the patient’s hand.

Arda is still in the taxi and asks the driver to pass the car Husseyn is in fast, not slowing down. The driver doesn’t understand. Arda repeats that he needs to drive past that car without slowing down so that Arda can look into it. The driver balks, but Arda tells him to just do it. The driver complies. Arda finally sees that Ali is the driver and he hands over a fat envelope to Husseyn. [Arda takes his time looking, and I’m yelling at him to get down!] He is thinking hard as the taxi passes the danger.

We see Fatih sitting and thinking on a bench by the beach. Mert and Nilufer approach.
Mert: He came, he’s there.
Nilufer: Mert, thank you so much.
Mert: I’ll be waiting here.
Nilufer walks over to join Fatih.
Fatih: Welcome, beautiful lady. You called me for your sister?
Nilufer: Please will you help me, Fatih? You know she’s innocent. She did it all for me. You made her do it.
Fatih: Have I ever thought I’d be this desperate to hold on to your sister?
Mert is watching from a distance.
Nilufer: I will never forgive myself if she goes into prison. I’ll never forgive us! Please do something, Fatih. If you really love me like you say you do, save my sister, please.
Fatih: Don’t worry. We’ll talk about this. We will. But first I have something to say to you, too.

Episode 76 #6
Nilufer: We don’t have time to talk about it.
Fatih shakes his head: But you don’t even know what I have to say.
Nilufer: I know. You always say the same things. You say that I belong to you, that I can’t go anywhere, that whatever you say is right and should stay that way. Isn’t it true? Maybe I’m missing something, but this is exactly what you’re going to say.
Fatih: You’re wrong, beautiful girl. I came here to set you free. From now on, if you don’t want to be my wife, you don’t have to be. You don’t have to do anything. You were right. This is not going anywhere at all. It’s not working. I love you with all of my soul, but you don’t love me. And that’s fine. I don’t want to force you.
He pushes her hand away and folds his arms.
They look at one another for some time.

Back in jail. Elif asks: Who sent you? Is it Tayyar? I asked you if it’s Tayyar.
Girl: I don’t know Tayyar or anyone of a higher rank. All they said to me is this: You know that paper in which you admit everything. The one you thought about ripping up?
Elif: How do you know who I am?
Girl: Listen, that paper is the insurance of your loved one’s lives. Your two sisters, one younger one older, and especially your lover. His name is Omer or something. He just came back to life from death. You love his family, too. So, you have a lot of loved ones which means you’re in a bit of danger. You’re going to get hurt.
Elif: Are you threatening me?
Girl: Are you deaf, girl, I told you, I’m just the messenger. I didn’t threaten or anything.
Elif: I don’t want to listen to you anymore.
Girl: Uh, as if I had anything better to do than this. Wait, I’m starting to forget. This was hard to memorize. OK, I remember. They say if you care about your loved ones sign this paper, admit that you are guilty. (She starts laughing.) Oh, and I remember the most important part. Well, sign that. There’s some time. A couple of years in jail. We’ll see. We’ll take good care of your family. Nothing will happen to the company and all of your family will live well. But, if you don’t sign, then you have to choose who’s going to die first from your loved ones.
Elif looks at her incredulously.

Omer is walking to the police station and sees Sami in the parking lot.
Omer: Sir! I found out, Sir. I know how Tayyar bought the attorney. He has a daughter just like …
Sami cuts him off: It doesn’t matter anymore. It’s over. We forget about it. They’re sending me to Izmir for a desk job.
Omer: Tell me you’re joking.
Sami: I told you, didn’t I? I told you that this monster plays big, didn’t I?
Omer: I’m going to make Tayyar pay for all of this.
Sami: Omer, stop! We failed, admit it.
Omer: Please don’t talk like that.
Sami repeats himself: We just used the wrong tactic. I told you to play with transparency. To let him make a mistake. But I was wrong. Whenever we tried to force him, he would just show us his sword. He was more powerful than we thought he was. Whenever we tried to fight him, we would always be the ones losing. So, forget it. There’s no point in fighting anymore.
Omer: Please, don’t dop this. Don’t say that. Object. Do something. Don’t just tell me that we failed and that we lost, we should give up. That man is a huge criminal. Are we just going to let him live his life that way?
Sami: I’m telling you that he’s powerful, big time, and unfortunately, he has his power because of our colleagues.

Episode 76 #7
Omer: Well, that doesn’t bother me. I won’t sleep until I find them all.
Sami: OK, don’t sleep. Be ambitious. Don’t give up on anything. Every system has its weaknesses. These people, these people will do anything as long as it benefits them. But don’t forget that we are also in the system. If you don’t want to give up, then don’t do as they say. Sooner or later, the truth will be exposed and we’re just waiting for that day, and when that day comes, I’m sure we will do the right thing.
Omer: But you’re obeying by going to Izmir.
Sami: I say let them believe that. There’s nothing that we can do right now. They gave me an order. Honest people always make it. They always make it through the obstacles. And believe me I do not intend on letting this go. I’ll come back. Take care of yourself, son. Plan your moves carefully. You have a habit of putting yourself in danger. Please give up on that because you’re a good cop, devoted to his job. We need you. The public will always need you. Really, you’re a very good cop. Please don’t ever forget that.
He gives Omer a sort of salute and leaves.
[I was so busy writing down the dialogue, I didn’t get to comment on Omer’s changing expression. He must have hundreds of expressions. He is such a great actor!]
Omer is very impactado. He must feel a little encouraged, but to go on without Sami right now is going to be tough.

Back to Nilufer and Fatih on the bench.
Nilufer: Is it over now? Are we divorced because you have said it three times?
Fatih: It’s over. You’re now free to go.
Nilufer: Why am I not happy, then? Why does my heart hurt? Why can’t I breathe?
Fatih looks at her, concerned.
Nilufer: I still lo…
Fatih interrupts her: I know. You still love me, too. But you see me as a criminal, as a sinner, as a lost soul. But you are still my light. Whenever I lose my way, you’re the star that leads me. You’re the good side of me. You are my belief in good. I did you wrong without knowing. I lied to you, I regret it all but I can’t take back time. But, believe me, right now my heart is completely nak.. here. I’m not mad at you. This is not your fault. It’s just something I have to do. Nilufer, I’ve made my decision. You will always be my other half. Give me my charm/amulet too and this will all be over.
Nilufer: I won’t. At least you can leave that with me.
Fatih: Come on.
She takes it off slowly and hands it to him: You started this and now you’re ending it. Don’t I have a right to talk?
Fatih: This will always be here (and he gestures close to his heart).
They stare lovingly at one another.
Mert is still watching. His face looks like a thundercloud. Uh oh!

End of Episode 76.
