Kara Para Ask – Black Money Love – Amor de Contrabando
Episode 88 #1

One of Tayyar’s henchies has followed Fatih and Bahar. Husseyn calls Tayyar who is very upset because they haven’t brought Fatih and says the stress is keeping him from recovering. Husseyn tells him it’s impossible. He just interrogated the station recently.
Tayyar: I don’t trust those losers who work for me.
Husseyn: Fine, look for him yourself.
Tayyar: I didn’t ask your opinion! (Tayyar is flailing, visibly upset.) We will be ruined. I’m thinking of us and you only think of yourself. In my world, just so you know it, nobody can stay standing alone; if one falls, the others fall as well. Go and find him now. They will give you the address. (Tayyar hangs up. He is fingering something metal, looks like a letter opener.)

Fatih is talking with Bahar.
Fatih: It looks like you don’t understand what I’m saying. What did I tell you yesterday? That I love Nilufer, remember?
Bahar: Really, then why did you accept me that easily. Don’t fool yourself. Nilufer isn’t from your (social) class.
A henchie comes in and tells Fatih: Sir, I’m leaving. I have to do something quickly.
Fatih: The young lady is leaving also. Take her where she wants.
Bahar: I’m not going anywhere. But, if you want me to, I can go to Omer and tell him everything about last night, the things you forced me to do. Ah, and I forgot, I haven’t bathed and I’m full of your DNA [gross!]. All it would take is for them to examine me and then I can accuse you of violation.
Fatih: What kind of woman are you?
The henchie has been listening to this: Excuse me, sir, do I go or do I stay?
Fatih: You can go.
The henchie leaves. Fatih and Bahar are standing and staring at one another.

Omer and Elif are walking in the hotel. As they reach a door, she bids him goodnight. He kisses her and leaves to go to adjacent room. They grin at one another, so I wondered if the rooms were adjoining, but apparently not.

We see the police in full operation. Lots of crime tape. Arda walks to his car when Pelin and Ipek approach.
Pelin: What’s the situation?
Arda explains that there were problems of money, the loser put a bullet into the head of (the winner, I think), they found him screaming in front of the body. Most likely he’s on drugs. He points to the police car where the suspect is sitting.
Ipek: Allah, Allah, we have to go after him (the loser) and trap him.
There is more conversation among Ipek, Pelin and Arda. Arda jokes that Ipek has had lots of adventures while she’s been gone that she hasn’t told them yet! [The playful interaction among them suggests to me how well they (with Omer) functioned together as a team at and after the academy.]
Ipek: Please don’t say that Arda. I haven’t yet had the opportunity to do it yet.
Arda: Now you have the opportunity. We’ll be here for some time. So, we’re listening. (She says nothing.) Ipek, now or never. We are listening carefully. Why did you decide to return to Istanbul so suddenly? Why do you need us?
Ipek: I’ll tell you from the beginning. I married Serat. You know that part of the story. I can’t say it was a happy marriage and we divorced.

Episode 88 #2
Arda: That happens.
Ipek: That’s true. But I wish it was as easy as you say. I would like to have been free from Serat with the divorce.
Pelin: Is he bothering you? Is that why you escaped?
Ipek: He kidnapped my son.
Arda and Pelin are both impactado.
Pelin: You have a son, Ipek?
Ipek: Yes, he is five.
[Uh oh! Arda and Pelin are probably doing mental math here as am I. This is a dizi and we know whose son that kid probably is, don’t we?]

We see Elif in the hotel room reading in bed. She is thinking about Omer, just next door. We see Omer grinning. He goes to the door of his room and stops, grinning some more, then he returns to the bed where he lies down with a sigh. [Just use the balcony I’m thinking! Also, I notice that Elif’s room is nice and tastefully decorated in neutrals. Omer’s bed is hot pink!]

Ipek: He took my son for the weekend, and I never saw him again.
Arda: He can’t do that. There are laws.
Ipek: What a joke. It sounds nice. I discovered he brought him to Istanbul but I don’t know where he is hiding. This city is too big. It would be very difficult to find him. And, I’m not sure I have enough courage to find him myself. That’s why I looked for you two. I can’t tell anyone else at the station. You both know me. We grew up together. If they find out what Serat did, for sure they will remove me from the police force.
Pelin: Ipek! I never understood why you married that dummy. I still don’t understand.
Ipek: I left my past behind me. Now tell me if you’re going to help me or not. I really need you.
Arda and Pelin look at one another.

Husseyn drives up and parks on the street. Two men are waiting for him. I guess they have been following Fatih.
Husseyn: Where is he?
Henchie indicates a building.

We see Fatih pacing and Bahar still sitting on the couch. She goes to Fatih and tries to kiss him. He rejects her.

Back with Arda, Pelin, and Ipek.
Ipek: It’s been three months since I’ve seen my son. I can no longer inhale his aroma. He’s growing and may even look different.
Arda: Then tell us what to do with Serat? What is he doing now?
Ipek: Betting, drugs, anything else?
Arda: How can this be, Ipek?
Ipek: There was a man in Istanbul that he used to deal with. If we find that man, he might be working with him now. Then we could get the address of Serat.
A policeman announced that they are done with the crime scene: You can leave and we’ll get you the information.
Arda thanks him.
Pelin: Then, let’s go to the station. I’ll call Technology [I forgot her friend’s name who works there!] and ask for the pictures of the betting operators that are in the system.
Arda: Perfect. Don’t worry (to Ipek). We’ll find your son.
Ipek and Pelin walk off together and Arda goes to his car.

Back at the hotel, Omer is pacing again. [I can’t tell if he’s also playing with his lighter!] He goes to the mirror and primps a little. [He really doesn’t need to, don’t we all agree?] Meanwhile, Elif is also primping. Then she opens her door to go to Omer’s room and, surprise, Omer is right there waiting outside her door! [This is a fun scene!] He’s holding a sack and tells her he is delivering her order. She says she didn’t ask for anything. Omer tells her they told him she was without water and shows her a water bottle. Then he says that it’s well known that she loves her desserts, so he brought two of what looks like candy bars of different flavors.
Elif: You really know me well.

Episode 88 #3
Omer: May you enjoy this day.
Elif: Thank you.
Omer: On the contrary, thanks to you.
She wishes him good night and so does he. Omer starts down the hall in the other direction. Elif laughs and says: If you’re looking for Omer Demir, his room is that way. You look lost. He probably also needs water.
Omer admits to being distracted and wishes her good night again. She watches him until he enters his room.
[Their body language is screaming here for one of them to give in and invite the other one in!] As soon as Elif’s door closes, Omer pops right back out of his door. He grins as if he knows she is thinking of him. Then he walks back to her room just as she comes out. Elif mentions there are good movies available. She asks him if he’s chosen one. He says he saw several but hasn’t picked one. Omer finally throws aside the sack and says they should stop with this conversation and pick a movie. He won’t watch a romantic comedy, however. Elif agrees but also doesn’t want a horror movie because it will scare her. He asks if she is easily scared. He finally lunges toward her, lifts her up, and carries her into his room. I’m kidnapping you!

Bahar is yelling at Fatih: Look at me in my eyes. You have been using me, but you can’t throw me away like a mistake. Don’t make me mad. I promise I will tell Nilufer everything.
Fatih: Go ahead, tell her everything.
Suddenly, the door is opened violently and in walks Husseyn! Fatih tells Bahar to hide in the bedroom. He goes out to meet Husseyn: You were looking for me and here I am. Are we going to play cops? Where is Omer?
Husseyn: Omer isn’t here. I’m not going to arrest you. I came to take you to your father.
Bahar is peering at this through a crack in the door.
Husseyn: Your father wants to talk to you.
Fatih: Really. What does he want to talk about?
Bahar is very impactada at this in her hiding place.
Husseyn: How can I know. Ask him yourself.
Fatih: Look. Tayyar Dundar bought the older brother of Omer. Impressive. You’d better hope that Omer doesn’t find out.
Bahar is trying to get out of the house by the window with no luck. She tries the handle of the door, and the handle comes off in her hand, never a good sign.
Fatih: I’m not calling him by telephone if that is what he wants.
Husseyn: You can talk in person. He gestures to a henchie to take him.
Ooops. Bahar lets something drop which breaks and makes noise.
Husseyn hears it, of course: Who is inside there?
When Fatih doesn’t answer, Husseyn tells the henchie to restrain Fatih and goes to enter the room. Bahar is by the window.
Bahar: Mr. Husseyn.
Husseyn: What are you doing here? Didn’t they let you go?
Fatih, showing some chivalry, says: She has nothing to do with this. Husseyn, let her be.
Bahar: I won’t talk. I promise. I won’t talk; I swear it. I won’t tell anything to anyone. Not Elif, Omer, I won’t tell anyone. I swear, I swear! No one will know about this.
Husseyn, angrily, certainly having flashbacks to Sibel: What are you doing here?

Episode 88 #4

Omer and Elif are snuggling in Omer’s room. They are watching a movie. Elif is nodding off, but Omer tells her not to. She is the one who picked this. She says she is tiring of it. Then he grabs the remote and says they will watch futbol! They leave the movie on and Elif asks him to play with her hair. She likes that when they are watching a movie. Omer strokes her hair and she kisses him.

In the police station, Arda, Pelin and Ipek are at the computer, looking at suspects. She tells them she only saw him a few times.
Arda: We’ll find him. You have a really good memory! Keep looking carefully at the mug shots.
She finally stops on one photo. She indicates that he is Rasim. He is Serat’s man.

Out on the street, Rasim is asking Can for the money he owes him. Can gives him the money and says his debt is now paid.
Rasim: Good boy. I suppose you made peace with your mother. Your father has disappeared. You never had money before. Well, I’m grateful to your mother.

Bahar is thrown to the floor. Fatih: Don’t be an idiot. Let her go. She didn’t do anything.
Bahar continues to beg Mr. Husseyn to let her go. He has his black gloves on and opens his jacket, not a good sign. His face is very conflicted.
Fatih is begging him not to hurt her: She has done nothing.
Bahar repeats that she will never say anything. That she swears it.
Out comes the gun.
Fatih is more adamant. Let her go.
Bahar says her parents would be destroyed.

FLASHBACK: We see Sibel begging Husseyn for her life, using the same words as Bahar.

Now we see the two scenes back & forth, with Sibel and Bahar begging for their lives.
Husseyn aims the gun, but it’s a little wobbly. Fatih is yelling: Husseyn!
Husseyn pulls the trigger. Both Husseyn and Fatih have horrified expressions on their faces.

Back to Omer and Elif. She takes a wrapped present out of her bag and tells him: Happy New Year!
Omer: Elif, I thank you very much. But I didn’t get you anything. I feel like an idiot. I’m sorry.
Elif: But you gave me the best vacation in my life. This is a great gift. Now, open yours.
He unwraps it and finds an album with pictures of them, poems, illustrations, and other things to remember these special days.
Omer loves it: Elif, when did you do this? It’s lovely. It’s a great present, love.
Elif: It’s our “vittoria.” (Victory in Italian)
Omer: Elif, it’s really beautiful. I will look at it every night. And I’m also going to write down every lovely memory that we have. I will need lots of pages because you are always with me. Come here. (Big hug.)
Omer gasps a little because of his arm. Elif asks what happened? He says nothing.
Elif: You’re lying. Your elbow is hurting, right?
Omer: When you touch it, it no longer hurts. [Oh Boy!] You are my medicine.
Elif: Really? I have another treatment.

Episode 88 #5
She shows him a container, and he tells her not to ruin everything. She says to put this on his shoulder and not to complain about her aunt’s potions.
Omer gives up and falls on the bed: Allah Allah!
He removes his shirt. She unscrews the jar. He yells: Wait and complains about the smell.
Elif tells him to let her put it on his shoulder.
He does so, complaining, asking what sin he committed to deserve this, etc. He pinches his nose so he can’t smell it.
Elif: Don’t make my work harder. She applies the cream. He says it smells better, probably from her hands. [Watching this interchange is so much fun. Again, these actors’ chemistry and skill make these moments very entertaining!] They go back and forth, and he finally is holding her close.
Elif: Your pain is my life.
Omer: But you smell like heaven. Elif, I love you so much.
Elif: I love you, too, my love.
They very slowly reach a kiss.

Back at the shooting, we see Husseyn dragging Bahar’s body (continuing with alternating flashbacks of dragging Sibel).
Meanwhile, Fatih is taken to Tayyar’s van. Tayyar tells the henchies to shut the door and guard them well. The main henchie (attractive gray hair) hesitates and then complies. We see Istanbul in the distance, with fireworks for the New Year, an interesting juxtaposition between the murder and the festivities.
Fatih: You think you’re very brave.
Tayyar: Yes, of course I am.
Fatih: It bothered you a lot bringing me here but it wasn’t necessary. I would have come anyway.
I was coming to bring you an offer.
Tayyar: An agreement perhaps?
Fatih: You know that I could kill you here and throw your body to your men so they could do what they wanted with you. You had your opportunity. You had me at your mercy on that operating table, but you still didn’t kill me. Why is that? Shall I tell you? Because you and I still have unfinished business to give up (entregar), right? But you always take and I only give. Look, I really want to be Fatih Dundar, without being your shadow. I want to be powerful like you are. If you help me and do what I say, I will always be called this. I will be Fatih Dundar, a legend, I’ll have so much power that that everyone in the world will fear me, including my father. But if you don’t want to you can kill me. Do it now. This will be the only way in which you can be rid of me because it will be I who gives up love. [This was very confusing, and I think I have the gist of the meaning. Entregar is used here in a way unfamiliar to me. It may be like a feudal knight swearing (giving) fealty to his lord.]
Tayyar: If someone wants to impose something on me, he better know that this infuriates me greatly. I put the rules here. I make the decisions. That is my custom. (Tayyar leans in.) And the customs don’t change with time, right son?
They stare for a bit and Tayyar holds out his right hand. If you return to power with me, I will be proud and this deal will only make me happy.
Fatih thinks for a bit and takes the hand, shaking on the deal. Tayyar holds very tight. It really looks more like an arm wrestle.

We see Husseyn carrying Bahar’s body down a cliff toward the water and then throwing the body in the water. We see the body go down and disappear in the deep water, another scene to add to Husseyn’s nightmares. His face is full of horror and sadness.

Episode 88 #6

Back to the honeymoon hotel. Both Omer and Elif are sound asleep and finally have to awaken for the new day.
Elif: I’m so happy. I want to wake in your arms every day. I’m afraid that this will stop.
Omer: It won’t change, Elif. I will never let that happen. And no one can ever bother us.
Then someone’s phone rings. They both look unhappily at the loud phone. Then the other phone rings. They look at each other and realize something big is happening for both of them.

FLASHBACK: (One day before)
Bahar is begging Husseyn to spare her life and then is shot. Fatih is there to witness this, saying: Why did you kill her? Do you realize what you have just done? We could have solved this in a different way.
Husseyn: What way? If you hadn’t escaped I wouldn’t be here in the first place. Idiot. Then the girl wouldn’t be dead. Imbecile do you understand me?
Husseyn threatens the henchie that is with them. Don’t you move. He still has his big gun with silencer. Then Fatih and Husseyn start to fist fight. Husseyn again threatens the henchie into staying where he is. Fatih looks like he has wounds in his knee.
Fatih: And how are you going to clean all of this?
Husseyn, cocks the gun: You will do it. Take hours and with care. Throw nothing out! Both of you didn’t see anything, you didn’t hear anything, nothing happened here.
Husseyn uncocks his gun.
He tells henchie to find Clorox or something similar.
Husseyn walks over to Bahar’s body: Bring a blanket to take her out of here.
Husseyn shoves the bucket [looks just like my O’Cedar bucket and mop!] toward Fatih and tells them to clean up. He yells this again at Fatih and raises his gun again.
Fatih is still in shock but starts to respond and begins to clean the scene.
Husseyn looks like he is crying and finally turns away, overwhelmed.
A bit later, we see Husseyn holding the body over his shoulder wrapped in a blanket. Henchie is finishing mopping up the area. Fatih is still there. Husseyn asks if the car is still hidden. Henchie tells him yes. Husseyn orders him to destroy everything when he leaves. Henchie understands.
Husseyn gestures to Fatih to get moving. Fatih complies. Husseyn tells henchie to hurry. We see that some of Bahar’s hairs get stuck in the doorway near the bolt. Outside, they throw her body in the trunk. Henchie helps. Fatih is watching, still impactado.
Husseyn tells Fatih: Your friend, the owner of the house, tell him to keep quiet about this. They get into the car. We also notice a hair of Bahar’s in the floor of the trunk. [I’m also remembering Bahar threatening earlier that there was still plenty of Fatih’s DNA in her.]

Tayyar is yelling at Husseyn. We tried to put out the fire but you try to put out the flames with gasoline! How did you think you would catch Omer, tell me.
Husseyn: Perhaps he asks Allah to keep the mouth closed? You sent me there, Tayyar. You are the cause of all of this. It’s all your fault. You are guilty of the murder of that girl and of Sibel. Look, if you don’t do something about your son, you will also be the cause of his death, Tayyar.
Tayyar: You are threatening me for the mistakes that you made?
Husseyn: Yes, Tayyar. I’m threatening you. It’s enough. I’m fed up with everything. This is serious. Look at me. If your son says just one word, I will kill him. Do you understand, Tayyar? I won’t give him any mercy. What does it matter one more or one less, I’m stuck in this mess. What do I have to lose, Tayyar?
Tayyar: I won’t speak with you unless you do something, but of course, I am not sure. Everyone wants to be innocent, hiding their sins just like you.

Episode 88 #7
Husseyn: Well, that’s fine. I’m the chief of the homicide section. I know more than anyone how they reveal an assassination how they cover up, Tayyar.
Tayyar: Then, I will take charge of Fatih. And you of Omer. Now the clean sea should separate this time forever. You took two persons that lived in Elif’s heart. But don’t think that these cries will erase your love. You have to destroy this if you want to continue to stay alive. Like Commander Husseyn Demir, brother of Omer and patriarch of the family, choosing to love something else than what you should be occupied with.
Husseyn leaves the vehicle. He looks back at Fatih in another vehicle.

Then we see him dragging Bahar down the cliff to the water. End of flashbacks.

We see Tayyar and Fatih shaking hands on their deal. Tayyar: Welcome to the team again, son.

Husseyn is at the well at Elvan’s home, preparing to drop the gun in. We see his very expressive, unhappy face looking into the well. Lights go on in the house. He remembers and visualizes killing Ahmet, Sibel, and Bahar. He cries. Then he hears Elvan: Husseyn, son, what are you doing at this time of night? Is everything OK, son? He tosses the gun in, and we finally hear it hit bottom. Elvan asks what that sound was: Did something fall into the well?
Husseyn: Nothing, Mom, just a glass that fell.
Husseyn climbs up to be with his mother. She asks him what is worrying him so much that he’s outside here. Husseyn tells her it’s nothing. Just business.
Husseyn: I’m going to hug my mother now, and all will be well.
He hugs her and she calls him her handsome son. Her face is very loving; his face is fraught with sadness. She tells him they should go inside; it’s too cold outside.

In Istanbul along the waterfront, Omer is driving Elif in a hurry. (They’ve just heard the news.) She is crying: Omer, it could be a mistake, right? Maybe just someone who looks like Bahar? It can’t be her. I just talked to her, and all was well. We were going to meet up with some friends this weekend.
Omer: Elif, love, let’s calm down and then we’ll go see.
At the cliff, we see police pulling up a body from below. Arda, Pelin and Ipek are there.
Ipek: There are some marks on the land, but this may not be the scene of the murder.
Arda: Let’s look over the place.
Ipek: I sent three men to do that already.
Just then, the body is carried past them, and Pelin looks, saying: we need to look in case they find something.
Ipek agrees.
Husseyn shows up.
Arda: Wait, wait, wait.
Ipek wonders why they have to wait.
Husseyn reaches them: What happened? Didn’t this woman escape from Fatih?
Arda: Well, we don’t know. They shot her and threw her into the sea.
Ipek: We are sending the forensics now. The body will talk and tell us what happened to her.
Husseyn: Sweetie, you are talking like a detective from a Hollywood crime series. I told you not to watch those: those kids are just trying to reach our level (of expertise). Let’s see what happens. Let me pass.
Husseyn walks past the group. Arda is pensive (wondering about Husseyn). Pelin is watching Arda being pensive. Ipek still has not caught on…yet.
Husseyn’s countenance is very serious and very sad.

Thank you, Babachita. I never get tired of watching this dizi. It is well written, acted, and directed. Highs and lows, twists and turns. You wrote another wonderful recap that captured it all.

#89 part 1

Omer and Elif arrive at the morgue. Omer sees how upset she is and tells her this isn’t necessary but she wants to see Bahar. Pelin, Arda and Ipek come down the hallway to meet them. They have identified Bahar. Everyone gives Elif condolences. She cries in Omer’s arms and insists on seeing Bahar.

Ipek watches them walk away. She says to Pelin, years ago if someone told me that Omer would fall in love with a girl like Elif, I wouldn’t have believed it. It’s not his style at all. She asks, how did this relationship begin? It began with great pain, Pelo answers, they went through very bad days. Each time they were tested with greater pain, the more they were tested, the more tightly they clung to each other. Now they have a very strong, beautiful relationship. How beautiful, Ipek sighs, I hope it always continues like this.

Omer and Elif view Bahar’s body. Elif sobs and speaks to Bahar. My dear friend, it’s all my fault. Forgive me. She turns to Omer. She had the right to live her life. Omer tells her to get it all out, he’s here with her.

Levent is outside the morgue. He’s crying. Elif goes over to him and gives his condolences. They hug and cry on each other. Levent says, it was obvious something like this was going to happen to her. Elif looks surprised at this comment. Omer walks over to them. He takes Elif away and gives condolences to Levent.

Omer brings Elif home. He tells her to get some rest. Elif is worried this will be covered up and go unpunished. They won’t find Bahar’s killer. Don’t you trust me, Omer asks. How can I not trust you, Elif replies, if I still can get up in the morning, it’s thanks to you. But I lost my faith in justice and the worst part is I also lost faith in life. He hugs her. I know, I know. But one day, justice will be done, I promise. I ask you to never stop trusting me. And you can always call me when you are feeling down. He leaves her at the door.

Inside the house, Asli is ripping into Nilufer. It was your fault! She died because of you! You don’t know what you’re talking about, Nilu fires back. Asli answers, you keep going out with that murderous scumbag—when will we go to your funeral?!

Nedret walks in and wants to know what’s going on. Elif walks into the house. Asli explains pointing at Nilu, she put her life at risk. That psychopath Fatih killed Bahar! I’m sure of it! Nilu says, Fatih didn’t harm me, he let me go. Elif shouts—enough! Do you know where I came from? The morgue. I lost my best friend and all you do is argue. She was your friend, too. We all grew up together. If you can’t respect her, respect me. Elif heads upstairs. Nedret agrees with Elif. She’s right, I see you two have no concept of respect. She walks out of the room.

Fatih is back at the farmhouse with his mother, or as he puts it “jail”. If that’s what he told you, Nevin says, don’t leave. Who does he think he is, Fatih wonders, he doesn’t give me orders anymore. Those days are over. He smashes a drinking glass. Fatih gets his coat and leaves the house. Tayyar is waiting outside.

Where are you going, Tayyar asks, for now, you’re here. Behave yourself. Fatih asks, why am I paying the price for your man’s (Huseyin’s) stupidity? Why am I being imprisoned? We made a deal. Do you know what I gave up for that? Tayyar replies, it’s because of your love affair that everything goes bad. It’s because of Nilufer. Omer is probably looking for you. Don’t wander around. It’s dangerous. Fatih balks. Tayyar points out, if you want to use my name and my power to go playing mafia, I won’t allow it! Listen to what I’m telling you as your father and as your boss, I’m not letting you leave this farm. Looks like Fatih will back off.

#89 part 2

Elif makes a phone call to Sengul Teyze. [is that Bahar’s mom?] I need to tell you something. We lost Bahar last night. Elif crushes a tea glass in her hand. Başınız sağ olsun.

Omer adds Bahar’s name and picture to the evidence board. Huseyin walks in and sees this. [he should die of guilt.] He asks Omer if he has any leads. No, Omer says, but I’ll find something. Huseyin answers, I know you’re going to be angry about what I will tell you… Omer interrupts—so don’t say it. Arda walks into the room.

Huseyin continues, I know you’re not going to listen to me, but maybe she went out to clear her head. Let’s say she met someone and ended up dead. How can you know that didn’t happen? Omer shoots back—we both know that didn’t happen. Fatih kidnapped Bahar. They spent the night together. Bahar must have seen or discovered something she shouldn’t have. They executed the poor girl so she wouldn’t talk. [bingo!] Arda is staring at Huseyin, looking for a reaction.

Pelo and Ipek arrive. Ipek has brought simit. Omer ignores Ipek and turns to Huseyin, I don’t think we need help on this case. The guest captain doesn’t need to know about this. What guest, Huseyin says, you misunderstood. She (Ipek) was transferred here to fill your old position. Omer is stunned. Ipek tells him, is it clear now that I’m not a guest? They make uncomfortable eye contact for a few seconds. Omer walks away from the board.

Ipek says, I’ve been working on this case and something caught my attention. Huseyin reads from a report. Bahar had sexual relations. A possibility of rape? We can investigate that. Look, she met a man and then… blah blah blah… the girl met a tragic end. Pelo wonders if this means she was with Fatih. Huseyin opines, no way—wasn’t this Fatih, Metin dating Elif’s sister?

Pelo says if we can’t find Fatih’s DNA, let’s call Mert. After all, these men are brothers. We can get an idea. Arda compliments her on the good work. Omer agrees. Ipek notes that Bahar was murdered in the same way, found in the same area as Sibel, with a single bullet. I sent the bullet to forensics. They will compare it. That way we will know if the murder was committed by the same person. Omer likes that, but doesn’t let Ipek know. Ipek snarks, that of course is if there are no objections from our friend from the financial division (Omer). Huseyin gulps. Once again Arda looks at him for a reaction.

Elif is in bad shape. She opens a safe, takes out a gun and puts it in her coat pocket. She puts on the coat and rushes down the stairs, past Nedret and Asli who are talking about Bahar’s funeral arrangements. Her family wants her buried in Ankara. Elif and Nilu cross paths outside the house but Elif just walks on by her without a word.

Asli notices that the safe is opened. Their father’s gun is missing! Elif took it! We have to call Omer!

Tayyar calls Huseyin for updates. Work fast to close the case, I’m having a hard time keeping my son at home. Huseyin says he can’t rush for Tayyar. Arda sees Huseyin on the phone and slowly approaches behind him. Huseyin tells Tayyar not to call him again. He’ll call if anything happens. Huseyin turns around and sees Arda. Huseyin asks, where are you going? I’m going to the lab, Arda replies, was that Chief Ali on the phone? Did something happen? Why are you so interested, Huseyin asks in reply. It’s just that you seem nervous, that’s why I ask, Arda answers. Huseyin snaps at him, stop talking nonsense. Go do your job.

#89 part 3

Elif goes to Tayyar’s house. The guard tells her to wait at the door and he will let her know if he’s available. Tayyar says, tell her I’m busy and to come back later. The guards deliver the message and Elif tries to push her way in. Elif pulls out the gun and fires a shot at the house. Tayyar ducks. She fires a few more. One goes through the window Tayyar was at and one goes into the ceiling. Pinar rushes in and Tayyar tells her to get down.

Elif aims at the guards. Stay away! Bring that killer here now! Elif shouts—Tayyar Dundar! Stay away from my loved ones. Do you hear? And that bastard of a son of yours. Stay away from my family, from my sisters, my boyfriend. You took my father and my best friend! You’re a bloodthirsty man but you won’t go unpunished. I’m stronger than you, and so is Omer. We are even stronger when we are together. You can’t do anything to us! We’ll destroy you!

Tayyar looks a bewildered and a bit afraid. Elif is about to squeeze off another shot but Omer arrives and grabs her arm. Elif, don’t do this! He turns to the guards—what are you looking at? I’m a cop! They go inside.

Omer starts, what are you doing? Didn’t you come and take me away from here before? Didn’t you say stop? You were right. The more we do this, the happier he gets. He gets stronger. This isn’t you. She struggles against him. She’s hysterical—Get rid of him or this will never stop! I’m desperate because I can’t stop the deaths! It keeps happening! This is me! Omer holds her tight and walks her away.

Pinar and Tayyar look out the window. She asks, is that Elif? Yes, he replies, the one who grew up in my hands. He looks alarmed.

Arda, Pelo, and Ipek continue working on the case. Arda says that Bahar didn’t have her phone or her wallet on her. They must be at the crime scene. Huseyin is listening outside the door. Pelo says she’ll make a call and get the guys to track the phone. Arda tells her to wait. He closes the door.

Huseyin listens at the closed door. Ipek asks Arda why he closed the door. He continues, you know what happened with Omer’s phone. Whoever the informant is, he will carry the news accordingly. The killer will take precautions. For now, let’s not tell Omer either. Let’s investigate and then share the result. Ipek doesn’t understand why Arda won’t tell Omer.

Huseyin enters the room. Why is this door closed, he asks, did you find anything? Ipek catches on by the looks of Arda and Pelo. She tells Huseyin, no, we found nothing. Just what we already know. It’s as I said, Huseyin tells them, the girl went her own way. He goes in his office and closes the door. Ipek is floored.

Elmer are sitting in a park. [a cat is sitting by Engin!] He asks her if she’s feeling better. Well, she’s at least calmer.

Huseyin barges into Ali’s office. Ali is ticked. Huseyin is panicked. We don’t have time to be polite, he says, they are looking for Bahar’s phone. They are trying to find the crime scene with the signal. Arda and Ipek are getting closer. Get the men to say they didn’t find a signal. Ali wonders why Huseyin is so upset. He asks, are you involved in the crime? Huseyin gulps. Don’t talk nonsense. You wanted me to behave, I’m being the master’s dog. What else do you want? Ali tells him to calm down. We are in the same boat. I’ll take care of it.

Elif asks Omer, why does life have to be so hard on us? Do we deserve this? I wish I had the answer, Omer replies, but after the storm the calm always comes. We’re together, that’s what matters. The worst night of my life brought you to me, Elif says, that’s the good in all of this. But I’m always so scared. Feeling like something bad will happen. We smile one day and cry the next. Don’t we have the right to be happy? Is it a sin?

#89 part 4

Omer answers, it’s not a sin. You have the right to be afraid. I’d like to heal all your wounds. I can’t change the past but I’ll do my best to give you a new future. Elif says she trusts him. Omer continues, I have to catch those guys or neither of us will be at peace. We have to control our own destiny. I’m on your side, Elif says, no one should cry anymore. Put an end to this. [lol, the cat is still there.]

5 days later…

Ipek has an evidence wall up at Pelo’s. She thinks Fatih is the killer. All 3 were killed with the same weapon. Bahar was with Fatih that night and saw something she shouldn’t have. Pelo doesn’t think Fatih is the killer. She was at his interrogation where he emphatically denied killing Ahmet or Sibel. Ipek says she never met anyone who would admit killing anyone. Doorbell rings and Ipek teases Pelo that her boyfriend (Arda) has arrived.

Pelo asks Arda, where’s Omer? He’ll join us later, he replies, he’s with Elif. Ipek says, don’t do this, Arda. I’m really upset. And Omer is acting with the same sensitivity. He hasn’t spoken to me since I arrived. That’s not my concern. I need to start over again.

Arda tells her he found a common point between Ipek’s problem and Bahar’s. Nothing came up on Bahar’s phone and the devil tempted me. You know Serhat’s man, Rasim? I asked for his phone records. Pelo asks, what does Bahar have to do with this? Arda says they caught Rasim at the border crossing with Fatih. Who would Fatih turn to if he can’t go to Tayyar? Rasim. Fatih was at Rasim’s house. Ipek compliments Arda. Arda tells them not to say anything to Huseyin.

Huseyin shows up at a restaurant and blows past the hostess. He goes to a table in the back and there is Nedret Hala! Nice place, he says, why didn’t I hear from you? You’ve been avoiding me for a few days. Nedret reminds him there was a funeral. He gives condolences. She asks, what’s so important for us to meet?

Ipek, Omer’s ex, was transferred to Istanbul, Huso says. So, what’s wrong with that, Nedret asks. Huso explains that she’s not just any ex. She was his first girlfriend, his first love. They were going to get married. Then she suddenly left him without any explanation. We heard she married a rich man. She separated from him and came back to work with us. Omer’s wound is still bleeding from this.

Elif never mentioned this, Nedret says, I didn’t know. How could he tell her, Huseyin replies, she doesn’t know either. She thinks Ipek is just another officer. Omer didn’t have the courage to tell her. Now do you understand what I’m saying? Nedret looks concerned. This is serious, she says. Of course it is, Huseyin answers, but if you’re saying, “I don’t agree with you, let’s forget about this”, that’s fine with me. After all, I’m not the one who’s going to comfort Elif on my shoulder, it’s you. Huseyin gruffly calls a waiter over to serve him and Nedret tries to process what she’s just learned.

Omer takes Elif to get something to eat. She says she’s not hungry, but he insists. He says, when it comes to Omer, he gets a scolding—don’t go hungry, don’t forget your ointment… but let Elif go hungry for days? No, the laws apply to me and to you.

We hear a bit of Elmer’s song. They picked a good one. It’s on my dizi playlist.

They sit in a quiet corner of the café. Omer orders tea for him, coffee for her. He feeds her a bit of bread with honey and cream. He puts food on her plate. He starts the conversation. Elif, you know the new friend that came to our homicide unit, Ipek?

#89 part 5

Elif interrupts, I know, Pelo said there’s no new development in Bahar’s case. You’ll say I overwhelmed her by calling her 10 times a day. So I’m guessing she handed me over to Ipek. But I didn’t waste any time. The day she was killed, she told me she was meeting with a friend. I found this at my house. She hands over a notebook. It was Bahar’s. I called all the numbers.

Omer takes a look. Elif says, I hoped to find something in there, but I haven’t yet. It’s strange because apparently, she didn’t meet any friends that night. Omer says, maybe Bahar went out to meet Fatih and the thing about a friend was a lie. She asks, why would she meet with Fatih? After everything that happened, she was very scared. She didn’t want anything to do with him. I don’t think she willingly went to Fatih. That’s impossible.

Omer says let’s change the subject. But he needs to know something first. Does Nilufer know the results from the forensic tests? Did you talk to her? Elif says no. But that’s in the past now. Besides Bahar is dead, and she’s not here to tell us what happened. Omer agrees. He gives back the notebook and says, finish what you started. Call all her friends. If Bahar met someone that night, we need to know who it was. He smiles, I suppose you were a cop in your other life. He feeds her a piece of cheese. Don’t make fun, she scolds. I’m not, he smiles, you have a talent.

Filiz brings tea to Nedret outside the house. She asks if Nedret is okay, her hands are shaking. I’m very upset, Nedret replies, I don’t like Omer’s family at all. Filiz responds, that man (Huseyin) upset you again, didn’t he? I wish it was that, Nedret answers, if he just upset me, I’d say never mind and move on. But his intentions are different. He’s like a demon. All he does is scheme. His wife is another problem, and we all know about his daughter. The only thing they care about is money, not Omer and Elif.

Omer and Elif arrive at the Denizer house and Nedret stops talking. Filiz leaves the table. Nedret invites Omer and Elif to sit. Elif says they walked around today. Omer is leaving and she’s going inside to work for a while. Omer walks her to the door. Don’t tire yourself out, he says. Elif goes inside.

Nedret approaches Omer. Your ex-girlfriend, Ipek, is here in Istanbul. How is she? Is she doing well? Omer is surprised. He asks, how did you find out about that? Your brother told me, she replies. Another surprise for Omer. Nedret laughs. You might be wondering why he did that, right? Your brother went and said something like this to Nedret Hanım, right?

Omer admits he’s very surprised. Nedret continues, I wish that was all you didn’t know about your brother. Omer asks, what do you mean? Please speak clearly. Nedret answers, the night your family came here to ask for Elif’s hand, do you really think I had a pleasant conversation with your brother? What else could it have been, Omer asks. Let me tell you something, Nedret replies, your brother has something different in his head. He thinks that you two are not suitable for each other.

Omer can’t believe that. My brother loves Elif, he says, he didn’t mean it like that. I wish it was like that, Nedret replies, but your brother spoke openly. He even went further. He said, “let’s cooperate, let’s separate, Elif and Omer. They are not a match for each other.” Omer is perturbed.

And we are out.

Thank you, Dondi. We are getting to parts of this great tale that I either don’t remember or I didn’t ever see. I had gaps, I know. Anyway, very pivotal parts of the story this week. I also like the peppy Omer-Elif theme! Thanks again! It’s fun making this journey with you!

I'm finally caught up, and actually ahead an episode! I did not see Behar's murder coming at all. Hussein is even worse that Tayyer!

I thought Behar's mother? was the person that broke the glass.

I can't say I totally dislike Nedret. She has valid points about Omer's family. I think she loves her nieces and is trying to mostly help them.

Ipek is a good detective. They don't seem to be doing much about looking for her son though. I'm not sure why Can keeps going to Fatih's accomplice. Is he a drug dealer?

Thanks Babachita and Dondi (and Darcy ) for the recaps. They are quite helpful for me.

Hi Kat! Great to see you’ve caught up. I was surprised about Bahar, too, and I’ve seen this before. But, I’m not sure I saw all the episodes. So, that was a shock.

I think Tayyar is the worst because Husseyn has a conscience. He has nightmares. He is terrible and cold and calculating. He does what he has to. But Tayyar is a monster. He kidnaps/kills kids to sell their body parts. That seems worse to me. I don’t think Tayyar has a conscience.
Both are really bad.

I haven’t decided about Nedret. She loves her nieces. Ipek is a very good detective. I like watching the detectives work together. I hope they can find her son soon.
