When Kenzo and Nandy came back to the Robles house Jerónimo and Sandro continued making transphobic comments to Nandy because they rejected that their father has fallen in love with her.

This is going to be a quick one, as I have a lot going on and I'm writing half from memory, half from some notes I took while watching. Feel free to add things I might have missed.

®️Thank you, Jarifa, for making up this perfect title while we were doing double (and sometimes triple) duty while recapping La Herencia. Oh, good times!....Remember Pedro Montero, you guys? Maybe he and Ginebra should start dating, I'm sure she'd find him quite fetching.😉

Paz and Esteban are both in tears as Paz reports back to work. They talk about Gala’s food needs. The kids come back the stairs and are happy to see Paz, Elvira … not so much. She eventually agrees with Paz getting back to her old job, after the kids insist. Gala especially needs her help.

While still outside Paz called Samara. Monito told her while handing her the phone. Mauro watched and listened. Paz told Samara she got out of jail and Samara told her she wanted to visit her neighborhood. She told her that Cobija had been sick with a stomach problem. [Will someone wonder how Cobija got sick? They all know that Ginebra is a monster.] Paz reminded her that they needed to be patient and soon they will be together looking at the moon. She gave the phone back to Humberto who was impressed.

Fobo visited Elvira in her office looking appropriately dashing in his black shirt and neat-invisible black sling. He was there for one more try at playing Rudolfo to her Contessa*. She was a little ill at ease at this happening in her office and she felt like a teen so she hesitated.... but finally agreed after hearing him out. [The jury needs to be polled about whether we want to see this consummated.]

Mireya gets a call that Paz's trial has been moved up, which she is disproportionately excited about. I guess it's good news if any wheels are moving at all. She wants to plan a big party to celebrate, but Lupe thinks it's premature. Then Kenzo shows up in a Miami Vice blazer and tells Nandy everything is on track for the change of gender in her official identity papers. Now it will be impossible to stop the party! Lupe gives in.  

Mauro tells Gin he hasn't been able to get into Fermin's safe deposit box to look over the incriminating diary/newspaper/whatever, so they'll have to keep him alive for now. Not sure why they don't just come up with a scary new threat, but thanks for the torture break.  

Paz gets hold of a phone and calls Sam on Monito's hidden cell. I was on the edge of my seat through the whole conversation, but fortunately with Monito serving as lookout they didn't get caught. Mostly it was just sentimental chitchat about looking at the moon and thinking of each other, etc. (Wasn't that a song?)

As if all the woo-woo surveillance already wasn't enough, Esteban talks out loud to Berenice's picture about his suspicion that it was Gin who killed her. Dude, she's in heaven and all that: maybe light a candle and write her a nice note? I'm not buying the whole animal-tracker thing, anyway. Even radio collars, which are large and up front, don't tell you what the elk are actually saying. 

He says he feels impotent. Well, we can hope.

Kenzo tells Nandy that he loves her. She can barely believe it, she’s never known love, only rejection. She loves him, too, but is afraid of being this happy. He is also scared of losing her or his kids because Felipa will do her best to ruin everything. They hug. Have we seen them kiss yet?

Paz is taking out her anger on a bell pepper. She is cooking and telling Emy about Ginebra’s visit. She is not jealous, she is furious, Esteban only used her, made a fool out of her. But it’s her fault, she wanted to fly too high, now she has to come back to reality. Emy listens to her but is more worried about Paz cooking while being this mad. She’s hungry. This is a woman who has her priorities straight. Respect!

Ginebra's words echoed in Esteban's mind as Paz came to the visiting room to see him. He began with a speech about the beautiful dreams and memories, then released her hands and ended their relationship, fulfilling Ginebra's vicious demand. His face showed reluctance and sadness. He was crying. Paz needed an explanation.

The opening scene is a rewind on the Lupe-Mauro slap, which is fun, and then Porfirio throws him out on his can, which is even more fun. Gala sniffs and says that Gema didn't say anything important, but she's clearly feeling it.

Gin admits to Mauro that she's in love with Esteban, which has never happened to her before, and you can tell it's true because she's really honked off about it. He points out that there is no HEA here because Esteban can't stand her, but she says she'll have him one way or another. (Are we sure she's not related to Gema?)

In the courtroom, everyone's playing Fun With Perjury. Paz is just a poor, deluded grieving mother who sees her missing child everywhere; Fefe is a good-for-nothing debtor/wife-beater who threatened everyone into submission; the rest of the Robles are clueless rubes and nobody doesn't know nothin'. Castro is called upon to confirm a number of details and seems gratified someone is actually listening to him. The judge sends everyone back to jail so he can take a Xanax think.

Paz isn’t sure she and Fermin should take full responsibility. Humberto states the obvious, the Roble family DID commit the crime. He and Esteban start quarrelling (not the time, dudes), but Paz eventually agrees with Hum’s plan. Too many people have already suffered, at the very least they will be safe. Esteban disagrees but stands by her.

Then Hum instructs Paz to start saying that she never knew Sam’s true identity, it’s important for their strategy. Esteban insists he will check to see if this plan is legit.

Mireya and Lupita find a woman (Emy?) who decides to protect them in jail. She does it for the money, she realized they are well connected.

When they are alone, Esteban protests against Hum’s strategy to have Paz take all the blame. At the very least he hopes Hum will be ready for trial. And he kind of implies that Hum doesn’t have the entire story about him and Porfirio not speaking.

Salomón tried to help Pepa feel better with a gift of colored chalk and comfortable-looking new shoes [Did he have to spend all the money Gala gave him?]. Pepa recalled the first birthday present from his brother was crayons. Salomón assured Pepa he would always be there for him.

Sam and Mauro are having playtime out on the lawn when she asks him if he really loves her. He assures her with tears in his eyes that he really, really does. She says then he should help the Robles, because they're important to her. So fascinating to see a future protagonista practice her bargaining power.

In the boys' jail, Fermin gets thrown into solitary for attacking Rubio. He struggles mightily, even though that's pretty much the only safe spot in the whole place. Take a break, Fer. There will be plenty of other opportunities to be a punching bag when you're rested up. 

Gala visits Salo and slips him some money because she knows "you have to pay for things in this place." She assures him that she knows he and his family are good people. They talk around their (fake) relationship and (fake) breakup and finally agree that it was best, especially considering their current (fake) old/new boyfriend/girlfriend. Salo thought-bubbles "but I didn't plan to fall in love with you" as she turns and walks away, dripping tears. 

Esteban visits Kenzo and gives him kudos for defending Nandy. Ken says he had no choice: he loves her. Esteban is supportive. He goes on to relay the sad news that no lawyer will take their case: they all seem to be afraid of something. They then talk about ballistics(!) for an absurdly long time that could have been spent checking on the dog-rabbit. Priorities, people.

A few days later…

Lupita is back home, the house is cucarachas free. The entire family is there (Vermin, too), Samara and Monito come to greet Lupita, followed by Nandy and Kenzo. Joy all around, this is a bad sign.

Pepa is turning 18, Paz thanks Kenzo for his help, he says she needs to tell Esteban the truth. She agrees, she plans to tell him today 

ENTER the COPS, arresting everyone for having kidnapped Samara. Esteban arrives just behind them and recognizes Ginebra’s daughter. He can’t believe Paz would do that; how could she lie to him?? Castro is taking everyone to jail, kicking and screaming. Samara doesn’t want to be separated from the family; Paz is begging for Lupita not to be taken since she just got out of the hospital, but Lupita admits she knew Samara was hidden in the house.

Esteban asks the family not to speak anymore, they need a lawyer. And then he looks on, powerless, as they are taken outside.

The barrio people see press in front of the Roble house, it’s a screaming mess. Esteban is trying to reach a lawyer as Paz and her family are being taken away in handcuffs.

Samara is crying for Paz, while a reporter is trying to interview her. Castro has to pull a screaming Sam away from Paz’s arms. Nandy and Kenzo are arrested, too.

Mireya and her sons were worried to the max about Lupita. Esteban filled them in on what the doctors said – she was stable and her vital signs were acceptable – and had to ask about where Paz went. He was shocked that she left the hospital with Lupita fighting for her life. Pepa told him that Paz and Vermin were taking Monito back to his parents. Esteban sensed that something wasn't right. Mireya said she hadn't told Paz anything about Lupita's condition. Pepa told him that they were helping Paz but it was nothing bad. Esteban excused himself to leave to check on the investigation.

Fuego and Elvira are still investigating the child who went missing from the hospital. Elvira is sure the Roble family had something to do with it, she’s even afraid they might start stealing from the house, too. However, she needs proof before going to Esteban, he’s been defending them too much and accusing her of being a snob. She would never!

Enter Monica, who Elvira accuses of helping kidnappers. Monica declares her innocence, but Elvira fires her and promises to do everything in her power to remove her license.

Mauro comes to visit the Roble boys. Salo and Pepa are NOT happy to see him. Mauro chats with Monito, he calls him “Chema”, which the kid forgets is his pretend name.

Alone with Mireya’s boys, Mauro tells them that he is dating her, she even slept with him the other day. Oh, boy…Salo wants to strangle Mauro, neither he nor his brother believe him, but he says from now on he will be part of their life.

Esteban and Kenzo are talking about the latter's feelings for Nandy. Kenzo admits they kissed, but this whole thing is weird to him, he has never had feelings for a trans woman before. He's afraid of what his kids will say, what Felipa will say (honestly, if you care about your ex's opinion on your current love life you need to rethink boundaries). Esteban pretty much tells him to accept Nandy as a woman and if he loves her, go for it.

Porfirio and Humberto debrief Esteban's visit. Porfirio admits he was moved by seeing his grandkids, and now he's just confused. Humberto says, "Why not forgive him and turn the page?" Porfirio snaps out of his confusion and goes right back to being a curmudgeon. "He left when I needed him most! He is no longer my son!" Oh, well.

Elvira summons Fuego into her office for a little "about last night." He is the New Senor Disculpas: forgive me, I was out of line, I am not worthy, etc. She responds with some actual compassion, telling him to never say he isn't worthy -- but he is young, with his whole life ahead of him (well, let's be realistic: half of it, anyway), and what could he possibly see in her? He says he admires her tremendously: her intelligence, her beauty, her fierce loyalty to (some members of) her family. She wavers but pulls herself together: love is not for her. That ship has sailed. 

Jeronimo goes to the barrio and starts a fistfight with Salo. They cause each other equal damage, which requires a greater-than-usual suspension of disbelief. Finally Gema breaks it up, and they throw Jero out together, which is kind of fun.

Ginebra can’t believe Mauro loves Samara, that recogida. She realizes she can’t kill her anymore (darn); she will have to make society think she is a loving mother. And of course she will use this opportunity to go against Paz, also, she “stole” her little girl and Esteban will despise her for that.

Gin wonders about what Samara might remember, she might ruin them. Mauro is afraid the Roble family suspect him, he even thinks Paz saved Sam from that attack a while back. Gin wonders why would Paz keep Sam hidden if she doesn’t know she’s her real mother. They both agree they need to come out smelling like roses out of this. And Gin is still set on marrying Esteban and steal everything from his family. This will be her revenge against Elvira, robbing her of everything she has. It was because of her that she had to sell her body and she had to kill.

Mauro thinks they need to stop Paz before she gets to marry Esteban and Gin is determined to do just that, she has become her mortal enemy.
