Sortilegio 2/12/10: Prince Charming Asks for a Happily Ever After or, Finally A Boda Without Bruno

Capítulo 92

As Viewerville readies itself for another mawkish jaunt through maudlin Mérida, Mary Jo and Alex are talking a tearful Paula into secretly taking a DNA test with Mary Jo to prove once and for all whether she and MJ are both true Samaniego's or not. This is the only way they can disprove their mother's claim that Sandra and MJ were not Pedro's and avoid any further emotional blackmail from Elena, which would force Mary Jo to share Porfirio's inheritance with Jorge and Elena as she has threatened hurting and shaming Pedro by telling him his twin daughters were actually Cristobal's. Paula curses her mother and agrees to have the test done.

On another side of the manse, meanwhile, Victoria gets a call on her cell from Fernando asking her to please visit him the next morning. He has a surprise for her. He says he's also a little hurt that she's avoiding him. Vicki makes excuses about her busy schedule, but then reluctantly agrees to make the effort to see him. She quickly hangs up. Poor Nando is still saying his sweet nothings but to a dead line. As he continues to wax romantic, telling Vicki how much he cares for her and doesn't want to lose her, he realizes Vicki has hung up on him. If his tan weren't so dark, Viewerville could see the fifteen shades of red his face turns.

A bit later that evening up in Alex and MJ's bedroom, Alex tells Mary Jo that he's gotten all the paperwork done for their civil wedding ceremony. The blood test is all that remains and they can be married in eight days. She is thrilled. It will be a simple affair. They'll plan the religious wedding afterwards, of course, once things have calmed down. Mary Jo tells Alex she just had a memory about their going to see a priest before to discuss their wedding. He's thrilled that the old MJ is returning! Oh happy day! They hug and cry tears of joy together.

The next morning Vicki visits Fernando. He shows her his surprise: he throws off the cover and then stands up on his own! Oh happy day again! With her help he begins to take a few steps. He tells her that he's going to be the same as he ever was and now she knows that she has no reason to reject him. Vicki is suddenly uncomfortable as Fer pushes the point. She tells him they've had that conversation already. When he's 40 something she'll be 60 something. (The woman has apparently come to her senses and is now ready to sacrifice her lust/love so that he can have a normal life?) He'll still be in his prime, she says, but she'll be essentially drooling and doddering. He insists it doesn't matter to him, but Vicki says it matters to her. She mentions then how well he and his lovely therapist, Irene, get along.

Nando insists Vicki is lovely too, and they've shared some quality time together also; but more than that, they were lovers. He thinks it's just her insecurities and that she shouldn't let those get in the way. Vicki insists that Irene is more properly suited to him [adecuada] and, yes, a better age for him. This is the reality, she tells him, that he is refusing to see. (Was anybody else out there dying for her to tell him that when he grows up and gets to be her age, he'll finally see she was right???) Just then the housekeeper comes to tell them that Irene is there for her session. Nando's frown hits the ground. Vicki says she sincerely hopes he won't give up his much needed therapy sessions. She greets Irene and then gives him a definitive "Adiós."

Irene cheerily tells Fer about the session she's got planned for him (definitely a gal who enjoys her work) and about a rehab center nearby that has a gym with all the equipment he'll need for his sessions. Suddenly she realizes he's depressed and distracted. She asks him what's the matter but he tells her not to worry about it. He has her repeat what she was saying. FF>>

Once Vicki returns home Felipa asks her what happened with Fer. Vicki fights back her tears and says what happened was what had to happen and not to ask her about or mention Fernando to her again. She then has Felipa call Lic. Quiñones. In a shaky voice Vicki tells the attorney to start the proper paperwork because Raquel has agreed to give her legal guardianship of her baby daughter.

Later that day there is a board meeting at Lombardo, Inc. where all the business partners' new and confidential numbers to their company bank accounts are passed out. Everyone is supposed to memorize their number for security reasons and then to destroy their hard copies. MJ is a little nervous since she's unfamiliar with these sorts of things. Alex says not to worry because they'll teach her little by little everything that she needs to know. Vicki assures her it's a good system. Meowra purrs pleasantly and adds that they'll all be sure to be careful with this information. Raqhell chimes in idiotically, obviously forgetting that her twin is there, that "There aren't any thieves at their company." (Viewerville shares a communal snort.)

Wile E. Bruno notices MJ's discomfort with company procedures. He pays a visit to Meowra after the meeting. Meowra says she is done with being a part of his intrigues. Bruno asks if she'd be game if he actually found a way she could avoid getting her hands dirty this time. Her whiskers come to attention and her ears prick up. Bruno starts to explain that his plan has to do with the secret numbers (pin numbers?) in those envelopes they were all given. Rrrreow??

That evening Alex takes Mary Jo out for a romantic dinner to celebrate her beginning to get her memory back. There are long-stemmed red roses lying on the table. Something's up. He tells MJ she has no idea how much he wishes she would remember the first time they made love. MJ smiles and blushes. Alex says it was marvellous for him and that now, after nearly losing her, he recognizes how much he really loves her. She's the woman he'd always imagined he would spend the rest of his life with. Mary Jo smiles and blushes some more as Alex hands her a long-stemmed rose with a huge 3 carat engagement ring hidden in the center of it. He formally asks her to marry him.

Viewerville oohs and ahhs along with MJ. She tells him he didn't need to do this and that she never expected it!! Alex says they were already married when they first met, so they didn't have a chance to enjoy this moment before. All he's ever wanted to do since the first time he saw her was to love her, and uh, he's still waiting for her answer. Mary Jo says of course she will marry him! She wants to with all her heart. (Not that he --or we-- ever really doubted that she would.) Alex looks more than a bit relieved as he moves in for The Kiss that seals the deal.

Across town at another restaurant, Paula and Gabriel are also having dinner together. Gabe, it seems, has been told that he has talent, but needs to improve his technique. So, his newfound patron is sending him to Mexico City to painting school. Paula says go for it. He says he's excited, but on the other hand, he's going to miss seeing her and that makes him sort of sad. Pau sort of matter of factly says they've become good friends and so sure, she'll miss him, too. He adds that there's something else he has to tell her that he never dared to before because he didn't feel he was on her level; and because he knows she likes the good life and such and now that he's going to be selling his pieces he'll be able to kinda, sorta provide for her now. (Yawn.) Pau's eyes go wide as she waits for the rest of it.

Gabe smiles oafishly and hands her some jerky post card that has "Will you be my girlfriend?" scrawled on the back of it. (Oh. My. Gawd.) Pau smiles nervously--but it's really hard to tell why. She is either A) extremely flattered or B) terribly embarrassed at the way this guy comes across. (I vote for "B".) Pau says she'll have to think about it first. He really hopes she'll give him an answer before he leaves in the morning for Mexico City. She doesn't commit. (Uh, Gabe, that should be your first clue she's trying to let you down gently.) He says he would like to leave with the hope that when he comes back home he will be returning for his girlfriend. He wants her to be that girlfriend. (Pau, the pickin's are not that slim. DON'T DO IT! Give him a peck on the cheek and pray daily to the diosito that he finds somebody at school right away and forgets you even exist!) Pau smiles broadly but says nothing.

Mary Jo and Alex return home late from dinner. First they check in at the nursery and ooh and ahh at the babies. Alex says it's such a marvel that the two of them actually made such a perfect little critter as Tony. MJ says their entire love story was destined to succeed, even though neither of them thought it might. Alex says no, he always thought she was out there somewhere and that eventually he would find her. It was like a magic spell or a charm [sortilegio]. "Yes. A love charm." The two kiss. A minute or two later Alex is taking off his shirt for her (and us). Soon after that... well we know what comes after that. 'Nough said..... Mary Jo willingly, though modestly, gives herself over to her one true love again. FF>>

The next morning Gabe says good-bye to Pedro, Chucho and his big sis. (Viewerville notes with great relief that Paula didn't stop by for a last minute farewell hug or smooch.) Chucho is near tears and tells Gabe not to forget them. Meche is bawling like crazy and Gabe reminds her that it's not forever. He gives her an envelope with money to buy some nice clothes and to find a house for the two of them. It's time they moved out now that they are able to, he says. Chucho and Pedro say it's not necessary and that they like things just the way they are. Gabe reminds them that that was the agreement when Pedro first let them stay there, and he'd always promised Meche "a little roof" of her own.

Chucho gives Gabe his blessing and sees him out the door. Pedro and he try to comfort Meche and tell her this is all part of life and that nobody can stop the young ones from flying away. You can only wait and hope that they come back some day, says the grieving Chucho. FF>>

At the same time, Fernando and Irene arrive at the gym for a therapy session. They're going to start in the pool. She sincerely promises to be there to hold him up and to support him...always..... They spend the entire morning together while Fer works on various pieces of equipment and she lends lots of cheerful encouragement. At lunch Irene tells him that he's improving rapidly. Fer wonders why he seems to be her only patient. She tells him he is a special challenge for her, but more than that, she says as she puts her hand meaningfully over his, he is also her favorite patient. Nando is flattery-might-just-get-you-everywhere-since-I-seem-to-be-on-the-rebound impactado.

That night a conscience-stricken Fer makes one last attempt to call Vicki. Vicki refuses to answer. Felipa tells her that whenever a cell phone rings you never know if it might just be the last time. Vicki clicks her cell off and sighs. Her fling is flung.

The next morning Lic. Quiñones is at the manse telling Vicki what he told the judge: that Raqhell had a health problem and that the father of her child died. The judge had no problem whatsoever giving Victoria legal guardianship. Vicki is still worried that the baby won't have a paternal influence in her life. Lic. Q. reminds her that Roberto would and could be that if she allows him to come by and visit from time to time. Vicki smiles and says she's going to call Bobo with the good news. They decide then to register the baby with Raqhell's last name.

At Lombardo, Inc., Bruno is now telling Mau how easy it will be to do what they're planning. It's all a matter of a click on a computer key and wufff! Ready! She really wouldn't be doing anything bad that way. She already has helped Mary Jo before to get her checking account and credit cards set up, he reminds her. All she has to do is go to the bank again with Mary Jo and then memorize the account number from MJ's open checkbook. Afterwards, Mau will give him the numbers and he'll take care of the rest from there. He'll transfer the company funds from the computer to MJ's account and then erase any trace of the transaction from the system. Simple as pie.

Mau figures that then the partners will think that Mary Jo is trying to embezzle funds from the company and will accuse her of fraud. Alex should become "disenchanted" with Mary Jo at that point. Meowra's still got cold paws and doesn't know if she really wants to help him or not. Bruno tells her it's their last chance to get MJ. "Are you in or not?" Mau nods. She is in. (Viewerville considers the fact that Meowra has used up 8 of her lives already. So, either she hasn't learned a thing from Bruno's legion muck-ups or she's become an adrenaline freak.) Bruno says that now all they have to do is wait for the opportune moment and then strike.

Back in Toluca, Don Emiliano pays Porfi a visit. He's amazed at how well his buddy seems lately. Porfi says that seeing MJ and his great grandson has made all the difference. The one thing that the disagreeable Elena did for him was to tell him that MJ was actually Cristobal's. Don Emi suggests it could just be another one of her long list of lies. Porfi insists the baby looks just like Cristobal did at that age. Emiliano reminds him that all babies look like all sorts of people at that age, but Porfi says it doesn't matter. They're his granddaughter and grandson because that's the way he wants it, period. Even if they were not he'd want them to be, and that's enough for him.

At the Lombardo manse, Alex returns home early and finds Mary Jo in the nursery. He tells her the results of her DNA test. (Duhn-duhn-duhn-duhhhhhn!) Yes, she and Paula are sisters and Pedro is their true father. Mama was lyin' like they thought. Alex calls up Don Emi to let him know about the results also. Emiliano says he'd figured as much and that Elena was lying in order to blackmail MJ so she could get some of the inheritance money out of her daughter. Alex says he and MJ don't know what to do because Porfirio still thinks MJ is his blood relative and that MJ doesn't want to hurt him; but on the other hand, there is the matter of the will and Porfi cannot leave money to a person who doesn't exist.

That night Mary Jo tells Pau the DNA tests proved they were really sisters after all. Pau is thrilled not to have to tell their papi something else that's painful. They giggle and tease each other and then MJ asks Pau how things are going at work. MJ wonders what Pau actually does there. Pau explains that she is in "technical support" and works with failures in the computer system. Mary Jo hasn't a clue what that means, but it sure sounds impressive.

In another part of the house, Alex is having a chat with Vicki about what's still necessary paperwork-wise for the wedding. Lic. Q. is handling all of it, he says and assures her he will have it all completed beforehand. As for the guests, they want only the family there. As for witnesses, they thought to have Fernando and Vicki. Vicki is uncomfortable with that and figures that Fer would be too, so Alex suggests having Dr. Hernan instead. She agrees and he leaves to head upstairs to bed. Vicki stays to read her e-mail. Suddenly there's a new one from Fernando. Vicki weeps as she reads:

"Victoria: We've talked before about your qualms [escrúpulos] over what other people might say, and about the age thing, and all of that, but I thought that you had gotten over it [superar]. Later, after my accident I thought that you didn't want to be tied down to a man who was an invalid. But, I am getting better, I swear. Irene comes every day to take me to the rehab center. I swim and do numerous exercises. I also know that you want me to get involved with a much younger woman, but I cannot. I swear to you that I cannot. If that is truly what you want, then alright. Perhaps I'll find another woman; perhaps I'll marry and might have children. But, you will never stop being the love of my life.
Yours forever,
Fernando"

Vicki breaks down and sobs. (Does this give a whole new twist to the definition of "mama's boy" or what? Woe to the woman who has to compete with frumpy old hags to be sexy.)

The next morning at Mengele Manor, Jorrible Jorge gets after Elena to continue her emotional blackmail of her daughter and forcing MJ into agreeing to share her future inheritance with them. Elena immediately calls the Lombardo manse looking for Mary Jo. "--Well, have you considered our little chat?" Mary Jo says yes, but that she wanted to be sure first before she did anything. She and Paula had DNA tests done and it turned out that in fact they were sisters and that what Mommie Dearest told Don Porfi was a lie. Elena swears it was the truth. (Ok. What as a nurse and assistant to the Son of Mengele don't you get about the results of a DNA test being undeniably accurate?) MJ politely disagrees and says tests don't lie.

Elena tries to fudge it with another fabulous fib that Pau was also Cristobal's daughter. Mary Jo finally gets impatient with her and tells Mama to stop making things up. "--That was not what you told Don Porfi! Even if it were, the only father for us both is and would be Pedro Samaniego!" Elena nervously asks if MJ is going to tell Porfi. MJ says she'd rather not in order not to hurt him, but Alex feels that they might have to anyway. She then cuts the conversation short and says there's no reason to keep talking since she now knows that Mama does nothing but lie all the time. Click!

Elena tells Jorrible the bad news. "MJ and Pau took a DNA test and now know the truth that Pedro is really their father." Jorge looks menacingly off into the distance and says the time has come to make a decision.....

Across the way again at Porfi's place, Don Emi and Porfi are having another chat. Porfi notes that Don Emi is looking worried and distracted these days. Emiliano says he's just worried about him. He doesn't like the idea that his friend should be disillusioned if MJ proves not to be a blood relative. Porfi says the more he's thought about it the more he has realized that blood ties are not that important. What is important is the bond of affection he and MJ share. He knows that Mary Jo loves him and he loves her greatly, too.

Don Emi asks if that means he's has finally written his will. Porfi says he had it done a while ago and just made them all think he hadn't. Don Emi says well, supposing that Porfi put the name of his heir as Sandra Betancourt, who is dead, or Mary Jo Betancourt on it, and that since her real name is Samaniego, that then Mary Jo wouldn't be able to claim whatever he leaves her. Porfi says well, she'll just change her last name. Don Emi suggests there is her family to think about. Her father is just a humble, everyday sort. Money isn't everything for some people. Also, people have feelings. MJ might not like hurting her daddy that way. Anyway, she's already married to a wealthy man who has his own set of sensibilities [carácter]. Porfi could risk losing her affection by asking her to do that.

Porfi thinks it through and decides to give MJ a call. During their conversation he asks when she's coming to visit him. She explains she's had tons to do around there for the civil wedding ceremony which is only a few days away. Porfi gets upset thinking she lied about being married. MJ explains they were married and got divorced but are remarrying now. She says she'll leave that story for another day because it is too long and involved. Porfi chalks it up to their being crazy youngsters. Mary Jo invites him if he thinks he's up to it. He says thanks for thinking of him, but he's not able to travel now. He asks her before they hang up what name she's getting married with. She says she's marrying under her legal name, Samaniego. Porfi makes a mental note.

Meanwhile, Irene keeps coaching Nando. One day they're in the pool together and she dares to kiss him on the lips. He starts to object but she asks him to give himself a chance. They kiss again. (If you can't be with the one you love, love the one your with.--My apologies to Steven Stills.)

Across town, Vicki and Raqhell have a meeting with the judge over guardianship of little Victoria. He agrees to give Vicki legal guardianship due to the ill health of her biological mother. Raqui agrees and says she knows that Vicki will be a better mother than she would be; that Victoria always has been. Mother and daughter make their peace and Vicki promises that Raqui can visit with her baby daughter anytime she wants to. Raqui doesn't look that thrilled with the idea.

A few more days pass. Finally it's Alex and MJ's wedding day. Meowra, LIs, Katia, and Raqui are chatting it up with the rest of the guests. Fer and Irene are an item now. Fer introduces Irene to Lis. Afterwards, gossipy Katia tells Lis that she is sure there is something serious going on--like Fer and Victoria are quits--because Irene doesn't seem to be just his therapist now.

Inside the house in the kitchen, we see the hired help preparing the eats for the party. Felipa, Zeke, Art and the housekeeper gossip about how easy the premade hors d'oeuvres were to get ready. Simple, yes, but not as delicious as the ones Felipa would have made herself, says the housekeeper. (Yawn.) Felipa now has two dogs she's playing with. FF>>

Bruno calls home to tell Vicki that he read in a newspaper that Alex and MJ were getting married at the house today. Vicki says yep, that's right. Bruno says great, but why wasn't he invited? Isn't he considered part of the family any longer? (This is too easy. I won't bother.) Vicki explains that since the last few times he's been anywhere near Alex all they've done is fight and this is one day they wanted to go smoothly. Bruno wonders how they could just kick him to the curb so easily. He understands, he says, but then they've got to realize why he is so bitter towards them when all they've ever done is push him out of the way like that. Click!

As Bruno broods he tears the newspaper he's been reading to shreds and grumbles to himself. "Let them get married! They won't have the pleasure for long."

The time has come. The wedding starts as Alex and Mary Jo walk towards the judge through numerous flowered, metal archways to say their vows. A few hundred or so of their "closest family and friends", mariachi band and singer all cheer them on. The ceremony ends and they sign the book. Vicki and Hernan sign the book. A number of what might be Alex's old girlfriends--or cousins--then also sign as witnesses. (As Viewerville checks the crowd, it's hardput to find a single male guest there other than the judge, Fer, Chucho, Pedro or Dr. Hernan.) Alex and Mary Jo seal the deal with another kiss and then greet their guests with very broad grins. It may not be happily ever after yet, but at least this time it is legit and Bruno--thanks be to the diosito--is nowhere in sight.

Gancho Friday February 12th. Lots of Lurking, But How’s it Working?

Alternate Title: Scents and Sensibility

Lurking. Who among us has never experienced the guilty pleasure of watching, listening, but being unobserved? Oh, we know it’s wrong. But we didn’t MEAN to pick up that telephone extension. And of COURSE we wouldn’t listen through a door! Maybe we’re just shy, and that’s why we read blogs faithfully, every day, but can never quite bring ourselves to put our thoughts out there in the world of cyberspace, for anyone to read. You say you never lurk? But isn’t watching a telenovela a little like lurking? We can observe the characters as they reveal their innermost secrets. We see them in private moments of sensuality. And there’s no guilt! And if we’re secretly watching some characters, and THEY’re secretly watching or listening, doesn’t that DOUBLE the pleasure? You bet it does.

When last we left our lovable characters, Nieves had polished off a super-sized tub of palomitas (popcorn) after movie night with Beto, and was going to do her business, when her darling criatura opens the door to their apartment, turns on the lights, and finds a slimy snake lurking in the shadows. Her name? Hisssssabel. Beto is so scared he can’t quite turn off the gas, and Hissy holds her nose at the smelly result.

Over in Coni’s room, Jacqui is telling her, in lurid detail, just how bad a lover Jero is. Apparently he cries after making love, and whines like a little mouse. Little do they know, but the mousey is in their housey (more precisely, in the dressing room, lurking and listening). Coni tells her Mom, “He never did that with ME”. With you? Yes, replies Coni, we did it, twice, and it was horrible. Jacqui can’t believe they’ve shared the same pain. Jerry’s like a dog, and was done in two minutes. He’s the worst lover in the world. We’re then treated to the downtrodden face of the worst lover in the world.

Outside, Aldo is sitting with his Dad Mauricio in the car, explaining the Estrella situation. He fills in Mauricio on what Katia did, what the boys Benjamin and Esteban did, and how he wants to handle problems himself. Mau tells him that violence never solves anything. But when Aldo asks Mau what he’d do if Monita were threatened, Mau admits he might bust some heads – if Monita didn’t do it first!

Watch out for Oscar, is Jacqui’s warning for Coni. Jerónimo’s just a puppet (un títere), but Oscar is bad news. Coni agrees, Oscar’s been demanding his money, but she had no problem blowing him off (lo mandé a la fregada). Her Mom doesn’t think she should have such a cavalier attitude. She tells Coni that Jero thinks Oscar may have been the one who offed Salvador, and for once in his life, Jerry could be right. So what do YOU think, daughter? Could Oscar have ordered the murder of Salvador? Could HE be behind the accident in Venezuela? Coni’s silence is deafening.

Isabel isn’t leaving until she talks with Nieves. Beto says no way, seeing you alive would kill her, she’s sure you’ve checked out (he says you hung up your high heels). Isabel realizes that Beto already knew she was still alive, and Beto agrees, his soul brother Mauricio doesn’t hide anything from him. In fact, he knows ALL about what Isabel did. Hissy hisses back, I didn’t come here to listen to any putdowns, least of all from someone as insignificant as YOU. Ouch. Outside, Nieves is just about to enter her apartment when Alicia intercepts her, and convinces her to talk a bit more about Cesar. They go off for some girl talk.

Mau’s bonding with Aldo is winding down, they’re at the door now, and Mau tells him the lawyers are trying to obtain some visitation rights for Mau. He really misses the girls, and is glad Aldo’s watching over them. Aldo (laying the groundwork for his upcoming declaration of independence), tells his Dad he loves caring for his sisters, but there’s a lot more in his life, shouldn’t he be able to concentrate on other things, too? Mau gives him an answer he probably didn’t want to hear. You’re still a year away from the age of majority (so Aldo is now 17), and of course you need to finish high school. Right. They hug and Aldo goes inside.

Gabi and Paula are sitting at opposite ends of a very long table in Moni’s apartment. Gabi has the strangest feeling. It’s like a premonition. Salvador’s trying to contact her. Paula’s into it, sure, Sal’s calling from the Great Beyond. Enter Estrella to give Gabi a hug, then Moni, then Ximena. There’s a group hug, which makes Gabi feel a bit better. Paula asks Gabi to repeat what she was feeling, and it’s like a tightness in the chest (opresión de pecho), she just feels that Sal is calling to her, begging her to help him. Xime’s enthused, she’s heard that after people die, their souls wander the earth, not content to move on until they’ve taken care of all pending matters. Let’s see, she continues. What had Sal not done? Marry me, answers Gabi wistfully.

Well? asks Jacqui of Coni. Do you know something about Salvador’s death? Ummm, no, of course not, in fact, I don’t even care, and, ummm, what’s more, I’m tired, I want to take off this dress and take a bath, okay? Fine, they’ll talk later. Coni heads towards her dressing room, as Jerry moves from the dressing room into the closet, sneaking behind some dresses. Coni enters barefoot, and Jerry secretly watches her enter the bathroom,

then quickly exits without her knowledge.

Xime thinks Gabi should try to contact Sal, to liberate his soul, so he can go towards the light. Estre’s skeptical, doesn’t believe in these things. Gabi says she’s always been skeptical (escéptica) too, but this is so real, there has to be an explanation. Well, Xime just happens to know a witch (una bruja), she’s really maraviguau, knows all about these things, and Gabi asks, can you take me to see her? Estrella wants to go, too, to find out about her future, is she making the right decisions? Moni doesn’t think Estre should trust her decisions to a bruja. Paula wants the bruja to cast a spell over Cristian to get him to pop the question, nothing else’s working on her stubborn boy. Moni doesn’t believe in all this stuff, but you know what? She’s going too, sisters together!

Nieves is finished talking to Alicia, and is just about to enter her apartment (again), when she’s intercepted by Paula, who tells her Gabi is here, in Moni’s apartment, and Nieves goes to give her a hug.

Inside Nieves’ apartment, Beto and Isabel are arguing. You have to leave, he says. Not until I talk with Nieves. There’s a knock on the door, and it’s Alicia. I think she says Nieves gave her the blue donkey purse, and she wants to pick it up. Isabel is surprised that Alicia’s in town. But there’s no way Beto’s going to let Alicia know Isabel is alive. What can they do?

Isabel lurks (I mean hides) behind the beads in Beto’s bedroom, as Alicia comes in, and sees Nieves isn’t there. Beto says she’s at Moni’s. Alicia is just about to leave, when she smells something. In fact, it’s perfume. Beto grasps for an explanation (as Alicia accidentally knocks her earring off, and picks it off the floor, in an unscripted moment I found hilarious, as the actors ignored it). Beto says he bought some perfume for his Mom, to cheer her up, what with Cesar leaving and all. Alicia recognizes the perfume as the one Isabel used to wear, she gets all misty, it’s almost as if Isabel were here (we see her behind the curtain).

Beto’s really nervous, but Alicia talks on and on, tells Beto that many people think she has no sense of humor, but really, she can be quite funny! (this scene is a scream, as we all know the actress playing Alicia is the real life mother of the actor playing Beto). Beto tries to usher Alicia out, but Alicia is laughing, she just HAS to tell Beto this terrific joke!

Let’s see, once they were in Moroleón, and they had to go to the D.F. Uh, no, maybe it was shopping. Wait a sec, ah yes, the doctor’s. She’s snapping her fingers, trying to remember, as Beto’s frantically urging her to just tell the neighbors, they’d really appreciate the joke. No, wait, now she remembers. They got on a bus, and ha ha ha, she can’t stop laughing, you’ll never believe it, a woman was so fat she took up two seats! And when Isabel saw her, she got right in front of her, and, and, (she fans herself, just can’t stop chuckling), she said in that very serious voice of hers (we see Isabel, not amused at all, behind the curtain), she said (Alicia imitates Isa’s low, expressionless voice), “Ah, Alicia, if they had told me that today the tickets were two for one, I wouldn’t have paid for yours!” She laughs uncontrollably, but it turns to a cry, she can’t help it, she wails, I miss her so much! She was my best friend, we were so good together. Beto, who has remained totally straightfaced throughout Alicia’s tirade, FINALLY convinces her to go over to Moni’s house.

Out from the shadows comes Hisssabel. “Alicia hasn’t changed. She’s still as corny and ridiculous as ever. You can see how I couldn’t stand her. There were days I wanted to choke her. She just never shuts up.” Beto shakes his head.

Back to lurker number two (Jerry). He’s trying to sneak out of the house, but he hears footsteps, and ducks into a corner. Luisa and Jacqui enter from opposite sides, Luisa starts to tell Jacqui about Andrés. After they leave, Jerry ducks into Aldo’s room, just as Jacqui and Luisa come back. Luisa goes off to bed, and Jacqui goes to open Aldo’s door, but it’s locked. Aldo doesn’t say a word, but he and Jerry stare at each other, and the door. Jacqui says she knows he’s in there, wants to talk about Estrella.

We know have six ladies at that table, Gabi, Nieves, Moni, Xime, Paula, and Estrella, all conveniently sitting on one side so we, the audience can see them at the same time. Nieves is patting Gabi’s hand, SHE’s just experienced the same loss. You mean, Don Cesar died? asks Gabi. Nope – left her, says Alicia, entering to make a lucky seven of our luscious ladies. Nieves laments that it’s the same, her Cesarín left, without even saying goodbye. Sure, interjects Paula, but there is one difference. Cesar’s not dead. Alicia joins with the criticism of Nieves, and the two start going at it, until Moni calls a halt, if you two want to fight, take it outside. Gabi is grateful for all this support though, without it she’d be sinking into an abyss. Xime thinks this is poetic, in fact, she’s going to use it in her next love letter from Lalu to Arnie. She gets out her white feather pen to take notes.

For some reason, Aldo wants to talk with Jerónimo, and with Oscar, but that’s not happening right now, since Jacqui’s insistent with her knocking. Jerry goes to hide in the bathroom, and Aldo lets Jacqui in. She assures him she’s not like Coni, and will never tell Coni any of this. Estrella had asked her to help, and she’s ready to. Aldo wants her to butt out.

Beto can’t believe how cold Isabel is, to treat her best friend the way she does. He also remembers the day Isa abandoned Monita, who sat on the stool (la banqueta) outside the door to the vecindad, waiting all day for her mother to return. She suffered for years. But somehow, she overcame that, and is strong. You should be grateful for that. Isabel disagrees, Valentina should thank ME. This infuriates Beto.

The seven sisters are bubbling with excitement -

Let’s all cook the same thing! suggests Moni. Xime wants to go out – they could all get daiquiris. Gabi’s not in the mood, but Nieves remembers she made a mole de olla (like beef stew in a pot) that’s really yummy (de rechupete), and it’s enough for all of them. She goes off to get it, as the others will set the table. Gabi wants to help, but they tell her to stay put, she’s the guest of honor.

Hissy explains why they should all thank her. By her leaving Valentina, that made her the strong young lady she is today. But, she says, picking up an apple, “the apple may be juicy, but that doesn’t mean it can’t spoil.” The snake bites deeply into the apple.

Outside, Nieves approaches her door for the third time, only to be called by Monita. Inside, Beto hears this, rushes over to Isabel, and grabs her from behind, clapping one hand over her apple-filled mouth to keep her quiet. He hustles her behind the beaded curtain as Nieves enters, looking for some plates that Moni needed. She calls out to him, and since there’s no answer, assumes he’s in a cantina, so much for his plan to be a priest. She leaves with the plates, and immediately Isabel, who has been struggling with Beto, elbows him in the ribs, breaking free, breathing heavily.

Aldo tells Jacqui he doesn’t want to be part of her family, doesn’t want her to be his granny. That’s good, replies Jacqui, because I’m much too young to be your granny. I can be like a young aunt, or an amiga. Besides, I don’t agree with what Coni is doing at all. I think you kids should be with your father, I know how much you’ve been suffering. And you know what? Life shouldn’t be about suffering. It should be about enjoyment, laughing, living intensely, life is like a big party. Aldo gives her a reality check. He and his sisters have lived in pain. Their mother died when Danni was a baby, they struggled to live in the orphanage, and only by Mauricio’s love have they been able to be a family. Jacqui understands, but thinks Aldo and Estrella aren’t ready to have their own family, that’s why she agreed to help Estrella. She knows a discreet gynecologist – No, interrupts Aldo. Estrella was confused, we’re having the baby. Jacqui doesn’t think Aldo’s looking at the situation over the long term (a largo plazo), but Aldo feels Jacqui is wrong, he IS being responsible, and he and Estrella will have the baby.

“How DARE you put your hands on me!” yells Isabel to Beto. All men are the same, they’re all PIGS who want to dominate women by force. Beto shows her how she hurt his finger when she elbowed him, but as he approaches, she screams for him to get away from her. Don’t worry, assures Beto, you’re not my type. But the snake splits venom, keep your disgusting hands away from me, no me toques, no me toques!

Jacqui tries to reason with Aldo. She was only twenty when she had Constanza, and was too young to be a responsible mother. She started viewing her children as obstacles to her life, and look what happened. Aldo thinks Estrella isn’t like Jacqui at all, but Jacqui disagrees. A child would ruin all of Estrella’s dreams.

Beto is pleading with Isabel. I didn’t mean to hurt you. But try to understand, if my Mom saw you alive and kicking (vivita y coleando), the shock could KILL her. Hissy responds that she WILL talk to Nieves. Beto says you’re scaring me, I’m sweating, look, smell this (he raises his arm). Hissy has a fit. You stink, I can’t stand your rotten smell! No, shoots back Beto. You’re the one who’s rotting, in your soul, in your heart. I will not let you see my mother, so leave! Fine, agrees Isabel, I’ll leave, but I’m coming back, because Nieves and I have unfinished business. Beto goes outside to see if the coast is clear, and guess who pops up? La Monita.

Moni wants to go inside to get some pots for the mole, but Beto won’t let her pass. He repeatedly stands in front of her, telling her things such as he knows all about pots for mole, they’re shaped liked boobies (I think that’s what he said), he can get them. Moni wasn’t born yesterday, though, how come you’re not letting me in Nieves’s apartment, Beto? Well, you can’t go in. Why, do you have someone in there? Some girl? No, oh course not. She tries to dodge him, but he keeps jumping in front of her, as she gets madder and madder.

Moni then looks over Beto’s shoulder, points, says look who just arrived!

Beto falls for it, looks, she punches him, and rushes past, opening the door as Beto winces in pain (he’s really getting a ribbing today). By this time, Hissy’s back in behind the beads. Moni doesn’t see anyone, so why didn’t Beto want her to come in? He says he let out a big one, didn’t want the smell to gross her out. Moni’s skeptical, doesn’t smell anything, wait a minute, she does. She smells perfume. Now she KNOWS there was a girl.

Aldo is firm. He knows the risks, but he and Estrella are ready to face them. Jacqui insists she’s just trying to help. Then why don’t you help yourself? Your own daughters need you. They’re both vipers, bent on getting what they want without regard to any other people’s feelings. Why don’t you put your own house in order? These wise words hit Jacqui hard.

Beto tells Moni he was with a girl, picked her up on the corner, but he didn’t pay, he just made out with her (la ligué, this is slang for made out with or had sex with someone, the word literally means to tie or bind, I guess it’s sort of like how kids in the U.S. say they’re “hooking up”). Moni is shocked, wasn’t he going to stop with the women, didn’t he want to guardar el silbato? (which means put away the “whistle”). Ah, but the flesh is weak, and I’m a macho billy goat, you know? Fine, says Moni, go with whomever you want, but what’s with bringing them back to your mother’s place, have you no shame? Well, he doesn’t have the dinero for a hotel, and by the way, when he brought the girl here, he had second thoughts, and the girl left, but not before she left her perfumy smell all over the place, of course. Moni starts to try to get a look behind the curtain, but Beto talks her out of it, he’s alone, doesn’t she trust him? Moni does, but wait a minute, that perfume reminds her of the one her mother wore. Ah well, she’ll go, but watch it with those dames, Beto.

The lurker emerges from her lair, telling Beto, I hope this shows you that I’m not interested in Valentina’s knowing that I’m alive……at least, not YET.

In another part of town, Jacqui has left Aldo, and Jerry the jerk can stop his lurk. He congratulates Aldo on putting Jacqui in her place, she deserved it, after leaving HIM, the most sought after (codiciado) bachelor in town. Yeah, says Aldo, according to whom?

Beto walks Hissabel all the way to her car, he’s not taking his eyes off her. She insists that his mother and she have to talk, about the man who left Nieves at the altar. Sure, Beto’s heard that story a million times, but what’s that got to do with you? More than you can imagine, she hisses. Did you know, Beto, that that man who loved your mother so much, is Marcos, the father of La Momia? You could knock Beto over with a feather.

And Monday looks great again. Oscar and Jerry have guns and money, and Gabi and Moni visit the manicomio. Will they see Salvador?

Vocabulario:

Un títere – a puppet

A largo plazo
– over the long term

Vivita y coleando – alive and kicking, colear can mean to wag one’s tail
Ligarse – to make out, or to have sex (literally to bind oneself(ves)

Dinero #20, 2/12/10: A Bad Night for a Hot Date

Marco hides his hoochie in the bathroom just in time for Ale to walk in and start seducing him. He squirms and claims he has an early appointment the next day. Ale is not to be dissuaded. She dims the lights and smooches him while the lingerie model stifles her giggles.

Rafa is finally home after a long day at work and tells madre and hermana he didn’t even sell one car. He frets about making the electric bill but Leonor tells him it’s already been taken care of; Julieta paid for it. Julieta says she got a very good-paying job as a secretarial assistant at her college.

Leonor catches Julieta in a lie. “Didn’t you say you were in the library?” Julie stammers that she’s working for a secretary in the library. Rafa worries her job will affect her studies but Julie assures him she can keep up. She wants to do something useful for the family. Rafa is adamant that Julie’s only responsibility is school but he thanks her for helping out.

Someone knocks on the door and Rafa, knowing it’s Vicky, rushes off to change clothes for their movie date.

Marco is still trying to push Ale way and again says she isn’t well enough. Ale asks if he’s upset that she surprised him. Of course not! Marco lies. He can’t wait to live with her and have her every night. He hugs her and then rolls his eyes.

Meanwhile, Rafa is trying his hardest to swallow Vicky’s face as they fumble down the sidewalk for a taxi.

Ale is insistent on spending the night with Marco, a concrete statue compared to Rafa who can’t keep his hands (or mouth) off of Vicky. Too bad there is no cold shower as intense as Vicky’s brothers pulling up to the curb to harass them. Tweedle-dumb and Tweedle-dee invite themselves on the date and offer to drive the novios to the movies. Reluctantly, Rafa and Vicky get in the truck.

Ale tries to pull Marco towards the bedroom but he stalls by saying the room is too much of mess. Ale doesn’t care and rushes through the door. She clumsily sits on the bed and invites him to join her.

In the car, Vicky plots with Rafa to lose the tagalongs as soon as they get to the theater.

Marco says he’s afraid of hurting Ale. Ale is hearing none of it but does fall off the bed when she leans over to kiss him. She still isn’t put off and keeps on kissing but Marco flat out says no. Ale wilts. “You don’t want me?”

Marco says Ale is the most beautiful woman in the world; of course he wants her. He’s just afraid of permanently hurting her. Ale tells Marco to call her a cab. He offers to drive her home but she refuses. She calls for a cab and glares at Marco when the attendant calls her Yomi Serrano (the hoochie’s name).

Marco fast-talks that Yormi is a client who stopped by the day before. Ale doesn’t look like she believes him and scrambles for the door.

Vicky and Rafa arrive at the theater but their plot to lose her hermanos backfires when they dash off to buy the tickets.

Marco attempts to convince Ale he turned her down because he’s worried about her. Ale is more worried about them as a couple. She starts to cry and wonders whether he wants to marry her anymore. Marco gets down on his knees and promises Ale he adores her.

Ale cries she’s afraid Marco doesn’t want her and will go looking for other women to satisfy him. Marco tells her he is incapable of being with another woman. Ale leaves and Marco thumps his head on the wall, probably worried his gravy train just left the station.

Yormi, Marco’s bimbo, comes out of the bathroom and guesses that Ale is his novia and not a business partner like he said. She isn’t the jealous type (or the modest type) and Marco wastes no time in crawling into bed with her.

A short scene of Rafa and Vicky having a miserable time watching the movie while the hermanos are having a blast. Another short scene of Ale sobbing in the taxi as it pulls away.

The hermanos drop Rafa off and ask him to pay them back for their movie tickets. He does and has a fit about it once he gets in the house.

A strange cartoon clock tells us it’s 5 A.M. when Rafa gets a wake-up call from Ale. She asks why he’s slept so late and Rafa is outraged at her inhumanity.

A little later in the morning, Leonor surprises Rafa with ham and eggs for breakfast. She bought groceries with the money Julieta brought home. Julie wanders in and Rafa asks just how much she made at her job. Leonor says it was 700 pesos. Rafa is floored and says a job like that usually only makes 150 pesos.

Julieta says she does other work too; besides, she only brought home a tiny bit of the 300,000 she earned. Rafa is frustrated and says he is the only one who is going to take care of the bills. (This was a little hazy. Please correct if need be!) He calms down and leaves for work.

Susana asks Ale how it went with Marco and she says it didn’t. Susana is suspicious but Ale says Marco is a faithful man. Ale blames herself; he doesn’t want her because she is injured and unattractive. Susana tells her to get a grip and Ale changes her tune and says it’s all Rafa’s fault for making her so repulsive.

That very moment, Ale starts berating Rafa but he takes it in stride and tells Ale she may be tough but she is very beautiful too. She softens a little but then snaps at him to get to work. He isn’t to receive any phone calls that aren’t work related. All she wants him to do is make “money, money, money”.

Ale hobbles back into her office and gripes to Susana about Rafa having the nerve to call her pretty. Susana just laughs.

Vicky calls Rafa at work again. He hides under his desk to answer it and she screeches her usual complaints. She talks about them getting married again but Rafa says he doesn’t have the money to go through with it yet.

Ramiro ducks down and asks Rafa if there’s something wrong. He hangs up and explains about the phone call and why he has two bottles of whiskey under his desk. Ramiro leaves and Vicky calls back. She wants to try their date again over the weekend in a hotel in a different town.

Rafa hides the whiskey in a desk drawer and asks Ramiro not to tell anyone about them.

Julieta stashes several more whiskey bottles in her bag and is nearly run over when Jamie rushes in the house. He’s concerned about how legitimate her job is but Julie says she doesn’t have time and tries to leave. He grabs her bag and sees Rafa’s whiskey in it. Busted!

Rosaura arrives to work late and gives a phony excuse. Marino admires and converses with his “Employee of the Month” photo. Ale holds a business meeting and scolds everyone as per usual.

At the butcher shop, Vicky pokes at a piece of meat while whining to her padre. She wants to look for a job with her friend Janet over the weekend. (Her cover for leaving town with Rafa.) Her padre agrees but only if her hermanos go with her. “And Rafael better not be there or disrespect you because he has no idea what I’m capable of.” He stabs a nearby chuck of meat for emphasis.

Avances: Rafa is chased by a German Sheppard and gets stuck in a tree (?!?!), Marco tries to make nice with Ale, and Rafa and Marco scuffle.

En Nombre del Amor, February 11, 2010--Where's Rodolfo?

Luz tells Paloma that Gabriel left for good and gives her a box that contains an hour glass and a letter from Gabe; Cristobal tells his mom that she has a granddaughter.

Rufi tries to get Pal to read the letter (even though Luz said she shouldn’t read it until she’s in Mexico City). Carlota comes in and puts on a woe-is-me-act about how alone she’s going to be when they leave. She’ll probably never leave there since her memories and deceased loved ones (among them, Macarena) are there. Emiliano shows up and informs them that Dr. Bermudez disappeared--it looks like someone attacked him at home but they don’t know if he’s dead or alive.

Padre Benito points out to Madeleine that first Pal has to be told that Cris is her father. Cris has it all planned out with Dr. B. and Rufi, but mientras tanto, Maddy will have to be patient. Cris then mentions that it’s Pal’s birthday and he wants them to go give her a hug. Madeleine is overcome with emotion and thanks God for so many blessings. Suddenly, Padre Mateo bursts in with the bad news about Dr. B.

Luz and Rafael wonder what happened with Dr. B. Apparently the police have already checked all the hospitals but he’s not there. Luz feels sorry for Pal and tells Rafa about Gabe leaving para siempre because he doesn’t want Pal to see him die.

Rufi cries that she doesn’t understand and Pal cries that it can’t be and runs off to her room. Carlota thinks to herself that she left Dr. B. dead, so what happened?

Ines has returned from her honeymoon and is visiting Diana. Diana tells her sob story about how she can’t find Samuel anywhere (and he has the deed to the house) and begs Ines to help her.

Samuel is on the phone with a scuzzy guy who says that Sam better get the money ASAP, or else.

At Dr. B’s house, the police tell Eugenio that the attackers came in the back door and Dr. B. was caught off guard. Eugenio asks whether there was more than one attacker--they don’t know yet, but it was well-planned. When one of the cops asks who took the body, Eugenio shrugs (with a somewhat guilty look on his face) and says they have to think that Dr. B. is still alive. The other cop thinks if that’s the case, then Dr. B. had to have someone help him.

Cris and Madeleine have arrived to see Pal. While Maddy talks to Pal, Cris asks to speak to Carlota. As soon as they’re alone in the study he grabs her forcefully and accuses her of getting rid of Dr. B. in order to prevent Pal from leaving. Once again he invites an anvil to come crashing down on him by saying that he’ll prove she’s behind all this if it’s the last thing he does. Carlota claims that it couldn’t have been her since she couldn’t have carried the body away, but Cris has no doubt that she had something to do with it. She snarks that now that he’s no longer a priest, maybe he should become a detective. He swears that her days are numbered.

Madeleine tries to encourage Pal not to lose faith, etc. In a real “well, DUH” moment, Rufi wonders who would have wanted to harm Dr. B. Maddy promises that she’ll personally ask Eugenio to help find Dr. B. Emiliano announces that it’s time for him to go so Pal walks him to the door. He tells her that she’s not alone, he’s there for her.

Romina stops by Camila’s store, where Cami and Orlando have been discussing the disappearance of Dr. B. Upon hearing the news, Romi is all upset that Pal isn’t leaving town now--what bad luck I have! Cami is disgusted and calls Romi selfish. Ro-it’s-all-about-ME-na stalks off.

Madeleine is still trying to console Pal. She thinks that this incident isn’t going to stop Pal from starting a new life, and she’s sure that this is the beginning of the end of Pal’s hardships. Nobody leaves this world without reaping what they have sown. The baddies get theirs, and the good ones like you will receive blessings. Yeah, ya hear that Carlota?

Angelica talks with Anamar about working at the platería--Anamar assures Ange that she’s not going to leave town and won’t leave her in the lurch (in terms of work) no matter what happens with Emiliano.

Rufi agonizes to Cris about how all their plans have gone down the tubes. Cris says their plans have only been postponed. Rufi tells him to pray for Dr. B to be alive, because they can’t take yet another death.

Madeleine asks Pal to forgive Cris; Pal replies that she can’t think about anything other than the doctor right now, but agrees to think about Maddy’s request.

Carlota calls German and demands that he find out what happened with Dr. B. German reminds her that he doesn’t work for her anymore and hangs up on her.

Samuel is waiting outside Romi’s house when she arrives home. She asks whether he’s there to deliver the furniture he was supposed to buy or to return the money he stole, then tells him she doesn’t have a father anymore. He asks her to listen to him and says there is an explanation for everything.

While shopping at Camila’s, Ines tells Cami that she should be worried about Sam--he and Diana were romantically involved and he asked Di for the deed to her house, and now he’s nowhere to be found.

Samuel tells Romi he had no choice but to give the money to those guys, or else he’d be killed, and claims he didn’t know they were crooks. He gets on his knees and says he needs money--if she doesn’t give it to him he’ll have to leave the country for good and he doesn’t want to lose her again. To top it off, he pretends to cry.

Cami calls Rafa to tell him about Diana giving the deed to the house to Samuel. Cami’s on her way to Romi’s to tell her what Sam did to Di.

A squirmy Orlando has a phone conversation with his business associate in Houston--the guy’s wife has some houses picked out for Orly and Cami to look at. Ok, but don’t say anything to Cami yet because I want to surprise her that I’m buying a house there. The guy wants to formalize/legalize their business relationship already or something like that, so Orly tells him that Angelica will be coming to set things up, blah, blah blah. Ok, see you and Cami here in Houston the day after tomorrow. More uneasiness from Orly.

Pal prays in her room for Dr. B. to be found safe and sound. Carlota comes in says she and Rufi can stay there as long as they want. Pal says that in addition to Dr. B, she’s upset about Gabriel, who left town without saying goodbye. Carlota takes this opportunity to observe that that was to be expected seeing as how he’s dying and all. Oops, you didn’t know about that? Pal flips out.

Romi is trying to access her bank account online before she writes her dad a check but can’t get the computer to connect. He’s all nervous and wants her to write the check right away. She tells him that all this stuff he told her better be true. Oh, and I don’t like it one bit that you had a romance with my husband’s mother. Sam claims there was nothing between them. Cami arrives and asks what Sam is doing there.

Carlota lies that they discovered Gabe’s illness recently, so Pal takes that to mean that he got sick when he arrived in Real del Monte and therefore it’s all her fault, because everyone that loves her dies.

Camila is outraged upon learning that Romi was going to write her father a check and she and Sam start arguing. She yells at him about taking the deeds to Di’s house and Romi is shocked. The phone rings, and the maid answers it and tells whoever is on the line that Romi and her mom are fighting with Romi’s dad.

German meets with Eugenio and hints that he has some good dirt on Carlota relating to what happened with Dr. B.

Romi asks if Sam swindled Diana. Cami grabs her phone and says let’s call right now and find out, but Sam grabs her arm and puts her in a choke hold. When Romi demands that he let Cami go, he yells for her to give him the check, so she goes to write it while Cami tells her not to give him anything.

Pal cries while reading Gabe’s letter (we hear his voice saying the words), but I’m so distracted by the inappropriateness of his peppy song playing in the background while she’s all weepy, that I don’t really care what the letter says. Something about how he has other plans that he’d rather not share with her because it’s better that way, and he’s leaving his legacy to her, and don’t look for him, he hates goodbyes.

Sam shoves Cami to the couch and demands that Romi sign the check. She calls him a coward and he grabs her and shoves her. Rafa arrives and he and Sam start throwing punches.

German tells Eugenio he thought that what Carlota proposed (to German) might interest him. Although German told Carlota to take a hike, Eugenio wants him to go back to her and say that she can count on him after all. Listen well to what you are going to do.

The scuffle continues between Sam and Rafa. Cami calls the cops but Romi protests because she doesn’t want her dad to get in trouble. Cami can’t believe Romi is still defending him. Sam calls Cami a whore and they yell at each other some more. Rafa tells Sam that he’s going to pay for everything he has done while slamming Sam’s face in the wall.

Pal talks with Rufi about Gabe--she thinks maybe he hid his illness from her because she had mentioned to him once that everyone that loved her ended up dying, and he didn’t want to worry her. Rufi advises her to talk to Gabe--ask Luz or Eugenio to put you in touch with him. Pal thinks she loves him more than she thought (but not more than Emil because she’ll never love again the way she loved Emil--oh, the tragedy). Rufi tells her not to let Gabe go.

The police--including the same guy who was investigating Dr. B’s case earlier--come to take Sam away. Romi is only worried about what the neighbors must think about all this. The cop says Romi has to come to the station to make a statement but Romi doesn’t want to; Rafa and Cami manage to convince her to go. Cami thanks Rafa for his help.

Romi tries calling Emil but he doesn’t answer. She looks on sadly as the police car takes her father away and worries about him being left in jail.

Emil sees Pal walking down the street and runs up to ask if there’s any news about Dr. B. She informs him that Gabe is out of her life and starts up again with her sobbing-heaving-speed-talking that is like nails on a chalkboard to me about how she’s destined to be alone and how marrying Romi was the best thing for him because it keeps him away from her and the bad luck she causes everyone she loves. Emil asks what Gabe has to do with it but she just walks off.

In Mexico City, Gabe is at a doctor appointment mooning about how he misses Pal. The doc comes in and says that his heart is responding well (though he should have died 15 years ago). Doc asks if Gabe has done anything different to feel connected with life; Gabe admits he fell in love for the first time. The doctor thinks the desire to live and love are strengthening his heart.

Pal calls Luz to ask for the truth about Gabe; she tells Pal to find Eugenio.

Carlota talks to herself about how she was able to keep Pal from leaving and, even better, she won’t have to get rid of Gabe. But she’s worried about the situation with Dr. B.--where is his body? Because he’s got to be dead, I killed him.

Avances: Someone calls Carlota with a message from Dr. B. saying he's not dead, and Emil walks in on Romi and German in bed together.

Sortilegio 2/11 The Investigation Continues

Sortilegio 2/11/10

From yesterday:
Victoria and Felipa--Fernando loves you. I know. You are right. I’m stupid. Well maybe just a little.

Tio was glad to see MJ and Alex. Alex has to tell Tio about Nando’s accident. He lies and says it was an accident at work and he broke his leg. He’s getting therapy. Tio wants to visit him and Alex tries to talk him out of it. He’s like a son to me.

Today:
The cops are visiting Elena. They want to ask her a bunch of questions.
Dr. Kruger is in Canada at a conference. She invites them in and cop #1 says they are interested in the kidnapping of MJ. They have a few questions. They want to know why she insisted that MJ was her other daughter Sandra. She says that they were confused because when they found her she was in a coma. The cops are looking at her like uh huh--sure. She continues explaining that Sandra was into drugs and they thought she had overdosed. The cop wants to know who found “Sandra” and Elena tells him about Useless. He was a friend of hers from Spain. He found her and brought her to the rehab in Mexico. No one ever suspected that Useless had switched Sandra with MJ? Of course not. So you went to Merida to see Sr. Lombardo. Of course. He took my daughter. And who told you where he was? His brother, Bruno. Ah—Bruno says cop #2. So when the doctor said that “Sandra” was really MJ they said you accused Useless. Didn’t you talk to Bruno about Useless changing your daughter for MJ? I didn’t say anything about him. The other cop chimes in and wants to know about Dr. Evil and suggests that what he gave MJ was not authorized by the medical association. Elena gets defensive and says that her husband does important research He is a serious doctor. Yeah, right. Cop #1 wants to know when Dr. Evil returns from Canada. She says she doesn’t know. The cops leave and they look like they don’t believe a word she said.

Over at Porfirio’s. Porfirio is in bed not looking very well. Iseas runs in looking like my siblings and I did when we would slide across the hardwood floor in our socks. Except he didn’t smash into the wall, break anything, or get grounded. He tells Por that his grandaughter is here with the baby. Por perks right up at that news. In they come and Por is overjoyed to see them. He is really taken with Tiny Tony. He’s very handsome and strong. He wants the nurse to give him a photo of his son. Look it is the same. Alex has the look like, “Not so much really, but ok.” He laughs that fake laugh that my first husband used to do when something wasn’t really funny. But he doesn’t comment. Por says this is the happiest time in my life. It’s a miracle. I have a granddaughter and a great grandson. My blood will continue. I am very satisfied. He kisses MJ’s hand. Tiny Tony makes the “I have gas face”and sticks out his tongue. What a cutie.

Back at Mengele Manor, Elena gets on the phone with Dr. Evil. She gets voice mail and leaves a message that he needs to contact her as soon as possible. The cops were here investigating.

MJ and Alex are leaving Por and heading back to the hotel. FF>>They say good-bye to Iseas. MJ wants him to take care of her grandfather. He assures her that he will. Don’t worry. FF>>

The nurse shows up at Elena’s. Elena wants to know if everything is ok with Porfirio. She spills the beans about MJ and family being there. She said he was happy about his granddaughter visiting. Elena looks impactada! She should--heifer. Elena gets on the phone with Dr. Evil. She asks how it is going and he says that they are imbeciles. They are afraid of advanced medicine. They aren’t real up on what he’s doing and are afraid and stupid. FF>> Then you are not interested in the investigation. They asked me questions about Useless, Sandra and MJ. Of course you answered correctly. Of course. MJ and her husband and their baby came to visit with Porfirio today. What child? The great grandson of Porfirio. Dr. Evil wants to know if MJ came to visit her. No. You need to go to Merida and talk to her. She is our only hope.

Nando is having his PT with the pretty therapist. She wants him to move his legs. Victoria looks on. He asks her about her schooling, and her family. Victoria makes her “I’m jealous but trying not to be” face and gets up and walks away.

Back at the Casa Victoria is telling Felipa how she’s not jealous. Ok, you keep on believing that. She is young and beautiful. He ignores me when she is there. Felipa is like don’t get your panties in a wad. She’s sure that Nando is just talking to her while they do their exercises. Vicky says they talk about things that don’t include her. All she has to talk about are things that happen at the house, and her kids. The competition has much more interesting things to talk about. Felipa thinks she is being silly. Yawn…FF>> Victioria is trying to convince herself that it’s better this way. Felipa says she has good news and bad news. Things are happening with her book deal. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Raquel wants to have Useless cremated and something I didn’t understand.

Emiliano is talking to Hernan who is glad to see him. He’s come to see his nephew. How is he doing? He’s better considering the accident was so bad its amazing he’s not dead. Tio looks confused. Alex said he broke his leg on the job. Dr. Big Mouth says it is understandable that Alex didn’t want to worry him. Nando is strong and young and with therapy he will walk again. Tio is impactada! He’s paralyzed?! Yes, didn’t I just say that?

Tio goes in to see Nando. You shouldn’t have come. Alex didn’t tell me the truth to not worry me. Hernan says his body is responding to therapy. You will get out of bed. Tio says he needs to know these things. They are family. Fernando says he won’t keep things from him again. FF>>

Vicky is talking with Raquel who is hugging the box containing the useless ashes of Useless.

Alex is talking to the cop. (Somebody fill-in here. It was way too fast.) The cop said they asked the same questions. Then who do we suspect? Alex says he knows who is responsible—dun, dun, dun—Quien? My brother Bruno. The cop says they checked him out and he is clean. (I guess that depends on your definition of “clean.” If his precious scarves are straight and his shirt isn’t rumpled then yeah--I guess he’s clean.) Alex wants to know what is going on with Dr. Evil. The cop says he’s in Vancouver. Alex wants to know when he gets back. Uh, we don’t know. He can come and go as he pleases. And besides he doesn’t have any motive. (I think I’m going to call him Inspector Clouseau because he is a moron). Mrs. Evil said that Useless took her but she wasn’t Sandra. There are witnesses that say that Useless didn’t take her. What about my wife. They erased her memory and put her mental health in danger. The mother gave authorization.

Dr. Evil is back in town and goes over to see Porfirio. Well, if it isn’t the esteemed Dr. Matasanos (quack—where have we heard that one before?) Dr. E wants to know how Por is doing. He’s just so happy since he got to see his great- grandchild. Dr. Evil says oh, swell, I’m happy for you. MENTIROSO! You know he’s thinking how unfortunate for ME. Por goes on to give him even more good news; He’s left all his stuff to MJ with the provision that she not give any money, not one red cent, ni uno centavo to your damn clinic! It’s done. Dr. E with a menacing face says “As you like it”(or as it pleases you.) I think what he’s really saying is “There will be blood. Oh yes--there will be blood.”

Alex wants MJ to have a DNA test done so they will know the truth. MJ is not so hot on the idea. FF>>

Dr. Evil wants Mrs. Evil to convince MJ to give them some money. Yeah I see that happening. She asks him why he can’t do it. He says because you are her mother for better or for worse. He continues to rant about others being stupid and imbeciles.

Alex buys MJ a car she is so excited. He wants her to take it for a drive. I didn’t know she could drive.

Victoria is talking to her agent. Fernando calls. She hesitates and then answers. He wants to know why she hasn’t been to see him. She gives him some BS about being busy with her book. He loves her and doesn’t understand why she is acting so strange. Tell me what is going on. She hangs up on him and cries.

Maura and Lissette. Maura gets a call. Mari tells her there is a meeting of the associates tomorrow. Maura gets upset about seeing Alex and MJ together.

Alex is talking to Nando. Nando is whining because Victoria hasn’t been to see him and doesn’t want to talk to him. Alex doesn’t know anything. Whiner FF>>

MJ is hanging out with Pedro and the baby enjoying a nice afternoon and talking about the wedding. Oh look, it’s the Wicked Witch of the West flying in on her broom—Maybe if MJ clicks her ruby slippers together 3 times a flying house will land on The Witch. EZ greets Elena with a very snotty Buenas Tardes. She says she’s here to see her daughter. EZ doesn’t look too happy and neither does Pedro. She wants to talk to MJ in private but Pedro has finally grown a set and isn’t having any of it. He gets upset and says if she has anything to say she can say it with him present. She looks down her nose at him. He says she is responsible for everything that has happened. If she was a real mother Sandra would never have been on drugs. It’s her fault that Sandra is dead. You go Pedro. He begs MJ not to go talk to her alone. MJ walks off with Elena and EZ makes a beeline for the house looking for Vicky. I didn’t know the old dude could move that fast. He’s always kind of reminded me of a turtle with his little bald head and that collar on his jacket. Pedro tells MJ that he’s here if she needs him.

Break

Elena tells MJ that Pedro isn’t her father. Yeah, so I heard. Elena swears its true. Vicky comes out of the house and asks Pedro what’s up. Pedro thinks Elena is trying to put one over on MJ. MJ tells Elena she doesn’t care if Pedro is her biological father—she loves him anyway. Now we get to the gist of the matter—we need money. JorHey is a brilliant doctor and they need money for the clinic. Pedro and Vicky scuttle furtively behind them. It’s cracking me up for some reason. MJ says she doesn’t have Por’s money so what does she want. Por is going to leave all his money to you. Don’t abandon us, don’t abandon the clinic. It’s not working so she tries—I’ll tell your dad that you’re not really his daughter. What a heifer. No redemption.

Back inside Alex, MJ and Vicky are talking. She must have told them what heifer said because she is upset and crying. Vicky thinks if she finds out for sure then Elena will never be able to hold that over her head. They try to convince her but she’s not sure.

Bruno knocks on the door of Erik’s cousin’s apartment. Ruh Roh, Shaggy! He wants to know what happened to Erik. She said he was hurt pretty bad and in pain. Bruno wants to know if he’s dead. And not “Oh My God is he dead!” But more like “Is the desgraciado infeliz finally dead?” She says no they went to the doctor. He’s doing pretty well. He gives her a card where to call him and some money.

Fernando is home!

Vicky is talking to Felipa when Raquel shows up. She said she’s feeling better but she feels really alone. Vicky says she could have therapy. Other people do it and they come out fine. Or you could take a vacation. She doesn’t like that idea either. To her credit she does ask about Nando. He’s ok. She’s surprised that Vicky hasn’t seen him but she thinks he’s too young for her. She leaves but comes back in and says sorry, I’m leaving.

Tio and Katia try to make him comfortable. He wants to see Sami. While Katia is gone Tio asks Nando about Victoria. Nando says she hasn’t come to see him. Tio says well call her then. Tell her you are home.

Chucho and Pedro. He’s back to whining and telling Chucho about Elena. Chucho says think about it—why does she want to talk to MJ alone?

Back to Elena and JorHey. They are trying to figure out what to do now. They need to get Por to change his will—by FORCE. Apparently they don’t know that “forcing” someone to change their Will makes it invalid.

MJ and Alex are explaining to Paula how Elena says MJ is the child of another father. Paula is really upset. She HATES Elena. Maybe Paula will get to be the one to get revenge on Elena. Four more days and counting!

Dinero #19- 2/11/10: Rafa, Ale, Vicky & Marco All Want to Seal the Deal

Rafael’s name rings a bell in Jorge’s dim memory. “Isn’t that the guy who hit you?” Luckily, because Jorge is usually so confused, no one takes this seriously and they begin to confuse him more by suggesting names of people he must be thinking of. Ale quickly hustles off the sales team back to work and sends her papa home with one of the drivers, making him promise to never do this again.

The sales team gossip about Ale’s personal life. They think her dad is sweet, but the boyfriend, not so much. The General says that guy can’t fool me, he doesn’t even have a real/fixed job. They all think it a low down dirty shame that Ale has to go to and from work in a taxi, instead of Marco taking her each day. Rafa seems genuinely concerned about this, and when Ale limps in to order them all back to work, he takes a moment to give her a look of admiration and adoration.

Marino and Ramirez want to know what has been making Ale so nervous and keeping her so on edge. It must be something right under their noses…Once he finds out, Marino is sure this will be the key to Ale’s downfall, and his rise to the Manager position.

Marco is relaxing and getting a massage and mani-pedi after a hard day of doing nothing. It also looks like he is no stranger to leg waxing, as those look pretty smooth peeking out from his white terry cloth spa robe. His “serenity now” moment is ruined, first by Ale calling to tell him about her father coming to Autos Siglos (he somehow fools her into thinking he actually cares about her father’s well being); and then by Chavez who calls him to invite him to his birthday party that evening. It will apparently be quite the pachanga of historic proportions, and Chavez will of course have some lovely amigitas available for Marco to sample. The one in particular that he’s thinking about for Marco is named Yormanis- Yormi for short.

Ale is distressed that Marco seems to have forgotten about their anniversary (of when they met) and has been acting strange. She thinks it’s her fault because she is so demanding, works so much, has money and family issues, and is currently an invalid. Susana gives her a new age-y pep talk. “You have the power to save your relationship. You need to change your attitude. Be positive.” Much the same talk Vicky’s friend had with her yesterday, but Ale is much more pleasant to speak with, given that she doesn’t have a big knife in her hand. She says Susana is right and decides she will start to change things with Marco tonight. After the Autos Siglos reception and new car presentation, she will surprise him at his apartment and get the home fires burning again.

Susana agrees to help get her ready, look “super-sexy”, and drive her to Marco’s place- not for Marco (because she can’t see the fine qualities Alex sees in him), but to make her friend Ale happy. Ale calls Marco and tells her “angel” that she’ll be out late at work, not to worry about her, and to sleep well (as he says he will be turning in early).

Rafa is hustling to sell some cars. First he sits down with a customer at his desk. They guy doesn’t want to buy a car today, so Rafa offers to sell him some fine whiskey instead. Next he tries to sell a car to a lady who doesn’t seem to have the least interest in buying. His desperation shows, and as she’s attempting to walk away quickly he offers to sell her some of the other goods he’s got for sale. She looks more scared than intrigued. He then finds another potential car buyer. A well dressed young guy who wants a luxurious car. Rafa has just the car for him, and the guy seems interested in buying! Rafa rushes off excitedly to Susana’s desk to get the sales forms (and we see Claudia eyeing his customer in the background). His first sale! Both he and Susana take a moment to celebrate. But as Rafa is headed back to his client, he is intercepted by the General, who is none too happy that Vicky has started calling other extensions, namely hers, trying to reach Rafa. He goes to his desk to take the call. She is going to treat him tonight- not only will she pay their date expenses (he’s still flat broke), but she is also in the midst of trying on a number of tiny underwear ensembles that she intends for Rafa to see on her. Oh joy! His first sale AND a well earned reward tonight.

While he’s on the phone, Claudia has sidled up to his client and is getting “friendly” with him. She even points to her nametag, which is oh so helpfully being jutted out by her boob, because Claudia is such a hard name to understand. She helpfully points out how rude Rafa is being to him, that she is also a salesperson, and that she wouldn’t do such a thing to her client. But, of course, she could never betray Rafa and steal his client. Unless…they just happen to bump into each other at a nearby restaurant and just happen to start talking about cars after getting friendly, then she could help him. Once Rafa finally gets back, it seems his customer has mysteriously changed his mind. Nope, he doesn’t want to buy that car afterall. In desperation Rafa asks him if he want to buy a bottle of whiskey. Uh…no. Rafa is crushed. He heads back to Susana’s desk to return the sales papers with tears in his eyes. Both I and Susana tear up with him. Susana tries her sunshiny best to cheer him up. Next time.

Claudia heads off for her serendipitous meeting with Rafa’s almost first customer. Nelson sees her leaving, sees dejected Rafa, and hears Rafa’s story. He puts 1 and 1 together and it seems he can actually add. He warns Rafa about letting Claudia anywhere near his male customers. They always seem to mysteriously gravitate towards her. Rafa thanks him for his advice, and watches as Nelson walks off with two female customers, one on each arm.

Ale presents the two new Ford models Autos Siglos will now sell- the Fusion and a Mustang. I’m asking myself what kind of deal did Ford make with the producers of HQEDNS because this whole show is one giant commercial for them. In fact, during Ale’s presentation, there is an actual car commercial! Applauses and cheers all around.

Marco has brought home a party favor from Chavez’s birthday pachanga. Could this be the much spoken about Yormi? I don’t think Marco cares really. She has a nice set and seems to be allergic to clothing because she’s wearing very little of it and proceeds very quickly to take the rest of it off.

Susana drops off Ale in front of Marco’s building. Apparently the front desk attendant believes guys should have each other’s back, because he stalls Ale and tells her he needs to call Marco to announce her arrival. He gives Marco enough time to hide Yormi, and her itsy bitsy clothes, in the bathroom, telling her it’s a (female) work colleague that has come to see him about business. He opens the door and is greeted by Alex holding a bottle of wine and calling him “mi amor.” Marco is obviously not used to this kind of spontaneity from Ale and asks if anything has happened, perhaps to her dad? She says no. She just wanted to see him, and she proceeds to seductively unbutton her jacket.

Yormi is listening at the bathroom door and decides she likes the possibilities of the combination of her, Marco and his female friend! She decides she is going to exit and give them a surprise.

Gancho Thursday Feb 11 #166 - Just one small prick and then he's no longer there...

Yes I know I'm a complete copy-cat but I HAD to do it and you'll see why. I hope Kris doesn't mind....

Ahoy all, it's my honey's birthday and we're going out tonight so this is what it is. Also, I notice that the closed caps are not working AT ALL and the sound is bad so if I get something wrong please feel free to comment and I will correct/add later. Thanks!!

Redux: Aldo proposes to Estrella and, well, we know our lovely star has very little self-restraint, usually choosing to follow her heart above all else. Frankly, I admire that about her, but it certainly does not make her life easy. Gabi's friends console her by pooh-poohing her concerns that Sal was killed.

Salvador is trapped in the drugged weirdness of the manicomio. Gah, creepy!!

Aldo tempts Estre with his dreams and fantasies of having a life and family with her. She's tormented.

Hahaha! Jacqui and Jero are soaking in the tub holding drinks and wearing cucumber slices on their eyes. I love how she includes everyone in her spa moments. He says to love her is the only thing he wants in his life, then he says he wants to kill himself, then he take a dive under the water right between her legs. What? He complains about Oscar and goes under the water again. OK, I think he's threatening to drown himself, not...well, never mind. Jero shares with Jacqui that he thinks Oscar planned Salvador's death. (Now if only Jero and Gabi can get together maybe she could start saving Sal!)

Back to the star-crossed and age-challenged lovers, Aldo continues to argue his case for marriage. Estre says it's not that easy but he argues yes it is. Surprise (not), she finally relents and agrees to marry him. He's ecstatic but she gives us the classic over-the-shoulder telenovela worry look that always bodes ill.

Jero is still pressing his point (so to speak) in the bathtub. He trusted Oski who betrayed him and now he wants to kill him! Jacqui says he's probably in Paris by now. Dang, they are talking fast. I think Jero figures he can hit Coni up for his part his in helping her to disengage Mau from his wealth. This pisses Jacqui off who she says she'll not stand for him going against Coni. She's had enough of his tonterias and himm being a guy who doen't make anything of himself. He was just an affair for her and she doesn't want to see him anymore, they are over. She stands up nekkid, covers her loveliness in a plush white robe, and leaves. He sinks down in the water, limp and defeated. Wow, breaking up with your boy toy while naked in the bathtub? I see where Coni gets her cojones!

Gabi and Pau are thrilled at Mau's announcement that he plans to start a new company. Pau loves the idea that she and Gabi will be peers at last and Pau can talk "tu" to Gabi. Ahem...Gabi tries to explain about the invisible but very real hierarchy of work experience. They way these two pals stick up for their own interests cracks me up.

The little group sympathizes with Gabi who tries to have enthusiasm for the project in spite of her sadness.

Jero trots after Jacquelinay like a pathetically oversexed puppy dog. He'll do whatever she wants just so he can be her guard dog. She's dumping him because he'll always be a muerto de hambre (without money). He pathetically begs her to keep him while trying to take her robe off, then he tries to borrow 2 million pesos (about 153K) from her. This really sets her off, she's an expensive dame and she's not about to support a man. She orders Jero to stay away from her and her daughter or she'll send her ex after him. She gives him her earrings saying they should keep him for a couple of years, think of it as a tip for all the fun they had together. She calls Britney Sofia and her multicolored duster and asks her to escort Jero out.

Jero chases off Britney Sofia, pockets the earrings and answers his phone. Well well, it's Oscar calling his dear friend Jerónimo.

Gabi doesn't want to be an aguasfiestas but feels she should get home. Moni and Pau convince her to stay in the vecindad with her gal pal support group.

Jero spits out a stream of bile directed at his old pal. Jero wants to kill Oski like the rat he is. Oski, completely unphased, needs a favor, will Jero do it or not? NO NO NO! Oski tells Jero to relax and let him explain what he needs. When Jero tells him he's at Cojoni's place Oski says that's just perfect, their entire future depends upon what Jero is about to do.

Aldo walks Estrella home and, standing in the most public place in their little patio, they agree to keep their marriage a secret and to tell no one, especially...(cut to Mau and Moni strolling up behind them)...especially Mauricia and Monita. Busted!

"Um, we were just talking about nothing, um, we're novios again." Mau congratulates them and Moni looks doubtful. Aldo points out they need to be together just like Mau and Moni. Aldo and Estre victory punch the air and vow that after the back and forth they will make it work this time. Moni pulls Estrella aside and they argue with their eyes.

It looks like Oski got Jero to be his lap dog again because Jero sneaks into Coni's darkened room and starts searching the closet.

Mau tells Aldo to be careful around Coni and to behave himself so he doesn't end up in jail again. Estre is shocked and kisses him for beating up the little dopes who attacked her.

Moni and Mau are happy because of Mau's brilliant new company idea and they gaze at each other. Under the anvil.

Andres is visiting Luisa. I think they're talking about how their parents reacted when they ended up in jail. Stupid parents, they never understand. Coni comes in and is thrilled to see Andres because he's rich and therefore better than Luisa's other loser relationship. He sucks up and asks Coni if they can go out to dinner pleeeeeeze? No Luisa is grounded. Then he gives Coni his slimy smile and she folds. They can go out as long as Luisa doesn't "engordar". It's not always great to have a model-skinny momma. Luisa looks shocked and embarrassed. The kids leave and promise to be home early. OK, at this point Andres is acting kind of sweet and normal for a change. Maybe he's OK but the jury is still out.

Outside Luisa wants to know what his plan is, hers is to NOT engordar. Wow, kid's got a nice car, a sweet little white convertible. I'm no car expert but it looks like a Mercedes to me. As they drive off in his rod Ivan walks into view. It sucks to be poor.

Moni scolds Estrella, what's she thinking? Estrella reveals that the near rape was all Katia's fault. The important thing is that her cub is repentant and learned his lesson so she'll give him a second chance.

Jero calls Oski from the closet (are we liking this symbolism?) to say he can't find the clothes he's supposed to be looking for. I don't think we know why yet. OK, he finds a blouse, then a skirt, but he can't find the shoes. Oski tells him to open his eyes and look, they are low-heeled and coffee colored. Jero looks through the thousands of shoes and finally finds them. He sniffs them. Really he does, I'm not making this stuff up.

More serious talk between Monita and Estrella, same old stuff. Moni wonders what happened with Estre's plans to stay with Alicia? Plans change, she got her big break. More talk about Estre's role and Angelii asking her up front if she is pregnant. In summary, Estrella says she has decided to "interrupt" her pregnancy.

Oski talks Jero through the closet search and decides to have Jero take a picture of the clothing so he can be completely sure they are the items he wants. Jero sets up the shot while Coni pouts in the other room.

Jacqui walks in and Coni wants to talk in her bedroom. Of course it makes no sense for them to have to go to another room to talk (unless Coni's afraid Britney Sofia will overhear) but how else will Jero get to eavesdrop on their conversation?

Jero takes the picture of the clothing arranged as if it's the victim at a crime scene and sends it to Oski. Oski likes what he sees and instructs Jero bring him the goods but to be very careful that nobody sees him. Jero shoves the clothing into his shirt front then hears Jacqui and Coni approaching so it's back in the closet for Jero.

Moni asks Estrella one thing, that she not do anything she'll regret later. Sigh, I'm getting tired of these endless chats about Estrella's future. Career vs. child, she's confused, neither she nor Aldo are prepared to deal with a child, etc. May we fast forward? However our male viewers might wish to watch simply because the two ladies are absolutely lovely and they do get up and pose a bit in this scene. They can catch up with the rest of us later.

Coni is in a typhoon of a snit as she confronts Jacqui about daddy's past, was he really in love and on the point of getting married with that Nieves? Why didn't Jacqui ever tell her? Her papa with that nobody? Jacqui tells her that Marcos insists he still loves Nieves, blech. Coni looks like she's going to be sick. Cut to Jero hiding out in the closet and listening intently.

Jacqui says Coni's taste for nacos is genetic while she herself has always had impeccable taste in men. Jero preens a bit but he looks pretty stupid with Coni's blouse hanging out the front of his shirt.

Coni asks Jacqui has she forgotten about that loathful Jeronimo? Jacqui sez let me clarify I was never in love with him. Her interest in Jero and Oski was only to protect Coni. Jero seethes in the closet. Jacqui vehemently insists that being with those two idiots, especially Jero, was revolting and it was a sacrifice all for Coni. Then Jacqui starts mocking him, Jackoleeenay, Jackoleeenay, she nearly barfed every time he played the grand seductor. He doesn't have money, style, personality, and very little below the waist. She holds up her little finger and then wraps her hand around it so only half shows. Smack down! Poor Jero sinks to the floor, limp and defeated AGAIN, and Coni looks like she's about to explode in laughter; another classic scene courtesy of Jacquelinay.

Nieves and Beto have returned from the movies. He's thrilled to have her all to himself again, she no longer needs that ugly porcupine nor he that Constanza. She sez best day in her life because she feels his love again deep in her heart. They have a mutual love fest, almost a little to lovey for my sensibilities but whatever. They talk about Moni's horrible mother and Nieves is all thank goodness that viper is dead. Uh oh.

While Nieves visits the baño Beto dashes into the house, turns on the light, and is frightened by the insidious Isabel. Is it an understatement to say he is muy, pero muy impactado?

Mañana: Jacqui tells Coni that Jero thinks Oski killed Sal and this time he might not be wrong. Beto physically bars Monita from entering his house.

Sorry, no time for vocab but some of the comments this week reminded me of a couple of my favorite dichos:

Con el Jesus en la boca = very worried, concerned (Lit. with Jesus in the mouth, i.e. praying, this was Susanlynn worrying about her daughter)

De tal palo tal astilla = like father like daughter (Lit. from the stick as the splinter, when Coni was compared to Marcos)

Gancho Wed Feb 10 - #165 Just one small prick and then you're there...

:)

Well, I haven't yet been able to review the show so here is a place for you to comment. I thought about writing random happenings to see if you were on your toes...maybe I'll pull that trick out next time. :)) HA!!! Hopefully I'll have a chance to elaborate once I've seen the show...til then, thanks as always...

OK here's some elaboration:

We open with Issy dishing to a disgusted Coni that her Pa was in love with no one other than our Snowball. Issy taunts her about having a relationship with Beto Coni says none of your beeswax. Issy toasts!

Aldo and Estre are arguing about whether or not she should have the baby. He telling her to keep it, her thinking it best if she doesn't. She is kind of losing it.

Issy and Coni pick up the conversation about Beto again. Coni denies he meant anything to her, she opened her eyes on time. Issy doesn't buy it. She thinks it's hysterical that the Pa liked the Ma and the daughter liked the son.

Cesar discusses with MOna that he knows Nieves never forget her great love. Mona tries to convince him he is loved now and that was old stuff. He tells her Nieves said she just saw him and still loves him. So he needs to step away graciously. Whoa tears.

Nieves and Alicia are washing laundry in the courtyard. What the heck is she wearing? She looks like someone threw a tub of carmel corn all over her and it stuck. The ladies discuss her drunken exploit, and how Cesar followed her to make sure she was ok. Alicia counsels against chasing Marcos, that Cesar is the lottery and she is lucky to have him.

Mona and Nieves are now chatting about Cesar, and how he left. Nieves thinks he left because she got drunk but Moni says uh uh, I talked to him and you told him about your love returning and that you even kissed him. Doh!

At SG, Marcos leaves, he and Mau agreeing to think about what the other said. Xime is there and she and Mau talk about the dough and how Rolu is almost stalking her, thank God he can't walk, and Coni was pissed off aboutthe money and she might need to borrow the Furia costume to hide from Coni!! Magic cousin bonding moments here.

Moni learns from Nieves it's true about the man coming back. Turns out its Marcos and she can't believe the same Coni's Dad. Nieves tells lovingly of the kiss and butterflies, and they both still love each other. But he also kissed that other one Jacqui. They don't quite finish this conversation when Pau runs in and has to take Moni off. They go to Pau's unit where Gaby is gushing tears, her old man (aka Sal) has died.

No we go to Estre and Aldo arguing about the baby and career in the park. He thinks she's silly for making castings more important that the baby. She tells him she already has a part and she's afraid. Neither one is ready for this and if he really wants to help her he'll help her lose the baby. Sigh.

Jacqui and Katia argue about Kat's misgivings. Kat runs off and jero shows up. Jacqui is still wearing dark glasses and complaining about too much noise. She's stressed, he complains about Oscar's traicion. He begs her to talk to Marcos to get back his shares. She tells him that Marcos won't kill him. jero swears vengence on the cockroach that is Oscar.

Suddenly after a fortuitous (gratutitous?) boob shot, we see said cockroach grabbing Coni and warning her she owes him his part of her divorce grabbings.

Blech, more arguing over the loss or not of the bebe between Estre and Aldo. Her luck is now, she'll never get another opportunity...he want to marry her.

Moni tries to cheer up Gabi. Mau arrives and offers all his support. Pau says except monetary because Coni took all that. Ha! Tea will have to do. Gabi thinks Sal was murdered. Everything happened so strangely and she lists some of the things that happened. She's convinced.

OK back to Oscar strong arming. Coni swears she'll give him nothing and he better get the heck out of dodge. She pulls the, we both know X so guess what, you won't push me. She says he killed Sal. He says nope you were there too and did nothing oh and besides, remember that you broke his phone on that day, and that phone has your fingerprints all over it so I can easily turn that over to the police and you'll be on the hook. She scowls at him.

A & E are still at it. She won't marry him, he's too young. She's being real, he's being dumb.

Coni still spitting back at Oski. How dare each other play with the other. He warns her again he has her in his hands. She'll get the damning phone when he gets his moolah.

Gabi still maoning about Sal, she can't even say the word plane. She insists jero and Oski have something to do with this. Mau still thinks it must be an accident. Moni tells of her fight for the tenement. Gabi promises her support.

Ah jeez, back to Coni and Oski. Don't extort me, etc. Coni finally gets to depart threatening her word is worth more than his.

Back again to A & E...talking about marriage. He looooves her and it will all be ok. The youth she criticizes is what will give him the strength to make it all happen. Hmm, words to live by.

Gabi still speculates about what the two might have done. Mau still tries to convince her it was an accident. She still feels something. Yeah the anvil.

In the manicomio, Sal and his wife are chatting, he gets an injection despite pining away for Gabi. This is where we end.

Dinero 2/10 "Siglo" a company known for its' high moral standards

Tonight starts out with Ale telling Susana that if everything goes as planned, her life will be practically back to Normal. Susana wonders if perhaps Ale is being a bit too optimistic. Ale says not with that great list of clients she gave Rafa. He’ll be able to pay her this month what her owes her.

There’s a knock on the door and in walks Rafa, nervously shuffling his client list. He tells Ale that he has a little problem. He proceeds to tell her he has the feeling that his co-workers have stolen his list of clients.

Ale is beside herself, asking how this could have happened, how could you have been robbed? Rafa isn’t certain how it happened. Ale starts screaming and poor Susana leaves them alone.

Ale asks Rafa for an explanation of how this happened. Rafa explains that when he started calling the clients on the list, each client had already been notified by a Siglo sales person. Rafa hands Ale the list of clients with the corresponding list of Siglo employees who had talked with the clients.

Ale asks where he had the list, Rafa states it was on his desk. Ale cant believe that he would be such an idiot to leave the list out on his desk. Ale angrily tells Rafa to come with her, shoving the list of clients back at him and goes to confront the thieves.

Ale is demanding an explanation as to what happened with Rafa’s list of clients and wants to know who stole them. El Torico thinks she is using rather strong accusatory language. The general is also offended with the accusation. When Ale confronts each employee with their corresponding ”client” from Rafas’ list they all come up with their own story of how it was just a coincidence. That their clients, were the same people that was on Rafas’ list.

There is a brief scene at the butcher shop with Vicky screaming and making lots of noise, telling papa he just doesn’t understand her problems. She has to fight for her relationship with Rafa. Papa is trying to calm her down and finally agrees that she can go out with Rafa tonight. Vicky hugs and thanks papa and off she goes, as papa is smiling and thinking he has such a beautiful daughter and some poor guy (our Rafa) is lucky.

We now see Julieta Introducing herself to Ernesto. She tells him that Pepito referred her to him, as she has a great deal for him. Ernesto sits her down and inquires about this great deal she has. She pulls out the two bottles of whiskey she stole from Rafa and asks if he is interested in buying them from her. He states they have good labels and is wondering if they are the real thing.

She assures him they are the real thing, addressing him as Sir. He starts getting all fresh with her, takes her hand and tells her he is not an old man. (Creepy) He asks how much they cost and she says 1000 pesos. (I ‘m not really certain but I think they are a lot more expensive than that). He states He doesn’t know if he is mistaken or if she has bewitched him with her eyes but he believes her and will buy them from her. As well as 10 more. Julieta is pleased with this and agrees. He gives her a small prepayment.

Back at Siglo, Ale is still confronting the group about the list. They continue with their lies of how they all knew personally all these clients and didn’t get them from Rafas’ list. She almost traps one of them in their lies, but he is able to talk his way out of it.

Ale realizing defeat, sarcastically thanks them all and tells them to return to work They all slink away like the thieves that they are. Ale turns to leave telling Rafa to come with her shoving the list back at him. He asks what he should do with the list, she takes it from him starts crumbling up each page throwing them at him in disgust.

She stomps off to her office saying “this cant be happening,” with Rafa in close pursuit. Rafa says it appears to him that this office isn’t very secure. Ale calls him naive and an idiot along with other cutting insults. She even wonders if he ever took a course on how to be an idiot.

Rafa tries to explain, and Ale tells him to shut up she doesn’t want to hear any more excuses. Rafa asks what are they going to do now. Ale tells him she had a sure fire plan to pay off her debts, as she waves her bills in front off him, and says your on your way back to jail. Rafa looks puzzled and repeats “back to jail” Ale sarcastically replies, what do you expect a 5 star hotel. Rafa asks her if she thinks she’s being fair. Ales reply is “Fair?” pointing to her neck brace. Telling him once again that this whole mess is his fault.

Rafa pounds on the table stands up and finally gets a little backbone. He screams back at her if that’s what she wants to do, then send me back to jail, I will go their happily!! He tells her it is a lot better then here and with fewer thieves.

Ale is taken aback with Rafa’s just outburst, and asks him what he is insinuating. He tells her he’s not insinuating anything, and this place is full of robbers. He rants on even managing to mock her beloved Siglo anthem. He doesn’t know what its like at her house but at his house, people respect each others property and he doesn’t have to worry about hiding anything in fear of being robbed. (Didn’t
Julieta just take a couple of his fine bottles of whiskey to sell?)

Speaking of Julieta, she returns home, and Leonor is asking why she isn’t in school. Julieta lies to mom, and then tells her she has a surprise for her and hands her the money she got from her ill-gotten sales. Mom asks her where she got the money and Julieta lies that she got it from a job at school.

Leonor doesn’t quite believe her and tells her to not get herself in trouble. Julieta reassures her everything is okay. Lies some more, with Leonor still not convinced. At the end saying she didn’t want to say anything about her new job for fear that Rafa would get mad she was ignoring her studies. She tells Leonor to trust her, smiles asks for a high five and goes on her merry way. Leonor looks worried.

Back at the den of thieves. El Bebe tells everyone he is out-raged at what just went on. They agree that Ale was behaving poorly, and El Bebe says that’s not what He meant. He says each one of them has to live with your own conscience for what they did. Marino resents this statement defending their actions. El Bebe continues scolding them, and disgusted with their behavior excuses himself. And runs off to the bathroom.

Ale and Rafa walk back to the showroom. She tells them they will all put the uncomfortable topic of the client list behind them and that Rafa will have the clients that aren’t friends or relatives of any of them without any more problems. (I wasn’t really clear on exactly what she was saying her) “Are we all clear” she states, and scolds Jimenez on his posture as she leaves and tells them all to get back to work.

We have a cute little scene with Jorge and Rosario. He is distressed because he is so poor. He comes up with the idea of calling one of his old friends for a loan. Rosario reminds him he has been dead for about 5 years. “oh that’s why he didn’t come to my birthday party. “ They both continue discussing the gravity of their problems.

Jorge blames himself for all the problems. All of his bad investments resulting in an embargo, and having to deal with this vulgar administrator. We flash to said administrator at some club surrounded by many scantly dressed women, Stating all of this luxury is thanks to Jorge’s prosperous hacienda. (Slimeball)

Back to poor Jorge lamenting that worse of all is that poor Ale has to work so hard to help them out. She has to work so hard that she doesn’t even have time for her own recuperation. He laments on, that he is nothing but a poor old man in his last days and cant even help out his own daughter. (very touching and sad little scene).

Back at Siglo, Rafa tries to get the attention of a customer who walks by hurriedly. He is then approached by his co-workers assuring him that all of this was nothing but a misunderstanding and a series of coincidences. They even lie and tell him that before Lopez left, he was so fond of everyone their that he gave them a list of his clients which by the way just happened to be the same clients on the list Ale had given him. What a sea of coincidences.

OH Rafa you are naïve. They convince him to believe them and even invite him out to lunch. After all they don’t want any bad feeling or misunderstandings between them.

Jorge sneaks out of the house and gets into his car and is on a mission. He nearly runs over a pedestrian and almost hit’s a biker as he heads out for Siglo.

Rafa agrees to go to lunch with the group , but not before we have to put up with Vicky on the phone. She starts with the voice and the whine and demands a kiss before he hangs-up.

Rosario calls Ale and tells her Jorge has taken the car and left the house. Ale is very concerned about his safety. They both promise to call each other if they hear any thing about him. We flash to Jorge almost causing an accident out on the road.

Back to Vicky slamming a knife through a piece of meat complaining to her friend about Rafa. She rants and raves and her friend looks at her and simply says. If you weren’t such a rag you wouldn’t have to worry about what Rafa was doing. ( Well not exactly her words, but similar). She hands her a mirror and tells her to look into it. Vicky admires herself in the mirror, missing her friends point.

Vicky’s friend , at knife point, tells Vicky she’s acting like a tele-novela star, all screaming and mad . She tells her that she’s going to loose Rafa acting like that. She tells Vicky she will help her become the kind of women men want. The first thing to know is don’t scream!

The Siglo group, including Rafa are now at a restaurant. This whole scene was long and boring so will just get to the point. They all order tons of food they have no intention of paying for. They Rag on poor Rafa and then stiff him with the bill. Oh yea and when Rafa sits down, the chair breaks.

After everyone leaves and Rafa is left with the bill, he does try to make it right with the waitress. He offers her a couple of bottles of his finest.

Susana is informing Ale that her dad is out in the parking lot. Ale is relieved and starts to call Rosario. It finally sinks in that Jorge is at Siglo and she becomes alarmed that he might run into Rafa. She tells Susana to hide Rafa somewhere. Susana tells her not to worry, that Rafa is at lunch with the others.

Ale is relieved to hear this and for the first time is glad that they aren’t working. She scurries off to greet Jorge asking Susana to call Rosario and inform her that Jorge is safe.

Ale goes out to talk with Jorge. He tells her he feels bad about everything and just wants to do his part.
He wants to sell the car to help out with expenses. She pleads with him not to do this.

Okay now we have a little name game going on here, Jorge first gets Beltron’s name wrong as he strolls out to greet Jorge. He chides Beltran because Ale has to get up so early to work, Beltran mentions the show tonight(Igot a little lost here) and that Ale will be there . They continue chatting, and Beltran invites Jorge into his office.

Ale is still panicked that Jorge will run into Rafa and states that he was just leaving. Jorge looks a little confused . Baltran continues insisting Jorge stay.

So now we have the entire Siglo group arriving at the parking lot. As they approach Ale, she becomes more panicked and Jorge appears even more confused. Rafa is standing behind Ale and Jorge asks who is that.
One of the group introduces him “Rafel Medina”.

Now the ultimate name game with Jorge reaching into the depths of his memory, Looking at Rafa, stating I know your name, its familiar, I know I’ve heard it before. He asks him if he’s a boxer. Rafa shakes his head no. Ale is trying to convince him that he doesn’t know that name. Finally Jorge states “Rafal Medino ? Isn’t that the guy that crashed into you.”
And that’s where we end.
