MEPS - May 27, Wed. - Cap 72 - Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold

I will post again my request for a guest recapper. I will be away photographing in Wyoming for two Wednesday episodes, June 17th and 24th, the exact same weeks that Melissa will be in Mexico. I haven't heard from anyone with a burning desire to do guest recapping to try it out. In fact I haven't heard from anyone at all about it. How about a group effort? Could be fun. At the very least would someone agree to post headers and attach them so our enthusiastic group of commenters can keep up the momentum.

Well, I join the concerned citizens for costume change. That striped sweater and the white blouse and yellow skirt must at least smell a bit musty after a week of episodes. But, a Date with Franco? Who wouldn't have trouble picking out the perfect outfit. On the other side of the house, Aurora has dressed herself in poor me, poor me clothes for her date with Dominga. We are not amused and Santiago is in tears again.

Aurora (Abora) reacts to Barbara's relentless string of impertinent questions, So she has a Dead Mom, so she died young, Dominga vs Barbinator which is worse. Dominga gets her life. She has to discover Abora's identity (thanks for the real name for Aurora, Melissa) Fernanda finally changes her clothes and goes for the high cut nookie proof, Peter Pan collared blouse.

The goon squad gets sandwiches and swear to follow Artemio's orders as they sit outside Jairo's bar waiting for action to report. Dominga with black socks slipping, acts out the disgusting goof on the lawn, gets the news from a disbelieving Tomasa that Abora went to town. As fast as she can pivot her sagging black socked feet, she posts for the village.

Fernanda shows Santi her clothes and tells of her meeting with Franco. it is connected (relacionado) only with the business she tries to be so serious. Santi teases wanting to know why she is so concerned with what she is picking to wear. She demurs, I don't want to be the widow that everyone pities. And how about Aurora, she changes the subject. Santi replies, I need to ask you help.

Gardenia, shows up with the box from Margarita's, you bet it is without the letters, As Franco dives his hands into the box when he sees some letters while Denia the Damned wants to bring him coffee in her sex-kitten voice. [Ed note, I am so disappointed in DD, it is hard to describe these scenes.]

At the village church altar, Abora prays to the Virgincita, assuring the ever smiling statue how she loves Santil but couldn't stand more questions and grilling from the Barbinator. The classic cast system intimidation has worked its magic.

Santi tells Nanda how the wicked (really he said adorada, adored but with a sneer) step-mother's (madrastra) questions bothered Abora and he is sure she wanted to spoil (fastidiar) his wedding plans with Aurora.

Franco goes through the letters and is frustrated that none of the Nanda letters are there. Cut to her bedroom where Gardenia has said letters and finds a black bag to hide them in her closet, I can barely watch this betrayal but adjusting my beanie.

Abora asks for forgiveness for misleading Barb and Gonzo, she acted like the worst of cheats (embusteras).. Suddenly violating the sanctuary of the altar, Dominga grabs Abora by the scruff of the neck. You are going back with me, she barks.

Fernanda defends Barbara's motives with mild resistance to Santi's assurance that Barbara is interfering as usual with his life.

For a fat old drunk Dominga has no trouble subduing the spineless Abora who seems to have no strength to resist the blows and abusive language that condemns Abora since she was born. She won't put up with Abora's tantrums (berrinches) but is perfectly launched into her own. The motivation of Dominga's fury is hard to fathom.

Tomasa comes to tell Santi that some woman came looking for Abora. Santi doesn't ask for a description but asks Tomasa to tell him as soon as he sees her again. He then tells Fernanda that if it is Dominga, the witch (bruja) they are in serious trouble.

Dominga is taking her back with hair pulling and smacks in broad daylight in the middle of the town and of course, no one does more than mildly shrug their shoulders or pretend the unlikely pair are invisible with their scene in the middle of this very small town. Abora says, she has other plans she finally shows an inch of spine that she will marry Santiago and Dominga might as well go back to her village. Dominga says what will these rich folks say when they know who you really are? This makes some sense, but wouldn't Dominga profit from a grifter program here? Artemio Bravo sure seems to have her trembling in her sinking socks.

Suspicious Barbara, reviews Abora's words, She says the her mother was named Esperanza. I need to be sure that she is dead. And still I have doubts, how was it that my handkerchief came into her hands. I have to discover what is going on.

*Who is drinking, highballer Damian? No, no, the hand on the booze is once again Artemio asking into the phone, what is happening with Jairo? The goon squad report, they haven't seen anybody of interest come or go from the bar. Then he wants them to locate (ubicar) Franco Santoro's employee, Gardenia. The story is over with Jairo. Goon two asks goon one, Are we going to make her sing? For now we only have to locate her. Are these two smart enough to drive to Las Animas, stay tuned...

Said Gardenia still sneaking around in her own room, says the letters that Fernanda sent HER Eduardo will be hidden from him. Even her empty head registers at the level of her flashing black eyes, that this may not work out well.

Steve tells him the machine can't be stopped , Eduardo is over . the his wanting to revive the love of the dead Eduardo is like trying to resuscitate a cadaver. But if you don't want to convert into a criminal,. That is the problem, I love her, wails our handsome hero, Oh Dios, what am I going to do? It has resulted into a childhood love turning into a grand amor of a man whose heart beats with all his love. Steve tries again with pointless cheerleading to rally ED/Franco. He offers, Eduardo is dead but Franco was just was born. Eduardo struggles with the lies. Steve says he only has to believe that he is in reality Franco Santoro.

Fernanda pats makeup and remembers telling Franco on the horse ride that with all the bad things that have happened in her life that she has just told him of the happiest moments of her life.

Steve tries to get him to imagine what will happen if Fernanda discovers that he is not Franco but is Eduardo. Fernanda would never forgive me. IT is a time bomb, at any moment, she could realize who I am in reality. But you have to renounce Eduardo and forever become Franco Santoro.

Santi is driving looking around suspicious and very worried in Villa Madera while at the no-tell hotel, Dominga seems able to push Abora abut and pull her hair while Abora offers no resistance to speak of short of lots of whining. I am fed up with you trying to leave. Don't think you can return to the house of the ricos when you are from the class of ticks (clase de garrapata) and don't even try to stick even a nose out the window (asomar). We may never know why does she hate her so, She continues to berate her with taunts of well, princess where is your crown.

*Barbara, dramatic music pulsing, touches the oil painting of Abora which means she has invaded Santi's room, and asks, In reality, who is your mother? While over at the hotel, Abora asks too but of Dominga, why do you hate me so much? Stop asking questions I am not going to answer. Abora, kneels at the monster's bed, her submissive whining isn't easy to report, I will work and give you all my money so you can be so happy. FELiZ Dominga says she will throw water on this cheekiness (jeta). You don't have anyone. She carries on assuring Abora that she has impossible longings to be loved or cared for or even a part of anything but the lowest level of society. If it weren't for me you would be dead! Scream, scream (chilla chilla), do you think your blue prince will come to find you? She actually does hear the blue prince yelling from his car out the roof window. The goon guards are still parked in front of Jairo's watching from their black car with no signs of going to locate Gardenia. Santi stands in his roof window and bellows for Aurora.. With the Abora worming her way on the floor near the door, Dominga finally taunts her with the fatal threat, if you leave you will never know where to find her mother. Why does Abora care, why do we care, but Abora obligingly cringes.

Time to check in on Grupo lacsomuch Lactos, Osvaldo and Anibal talk about Vladi, As of tomorrow he will occupy the old office of Damian. Osvaldo asks, aren't you worried about his knowing the secrets about the speculation in the market (especular de la bolsa). After he is satisfied we can return the capital to the treasure or funds (arcas) of Grupo Lactos. [I guess they will fill Pris's accounts to fool Vladi and Pris.

Back at Vladi's apartment, he is ranting to Damian, the nerve (descara) of Anibla is unforgivable! V Damina says the important thing is he gave you gave Pris the documentation to build her confidence in you. But, Vladi adds, She made a deal (trato) with me that if I got her the information, she insists on knowing who was the contact in GL. Damian snaps, you didn't tell her it was me? No, says Vladi, but I told her it was Flor. Damian thinks this is fine. Vladi is concerned with betraying Flor, I begged her not to be unfair with Flor or get her in trouble with Anibal.

You have to save your own hide (pellejo). It is either protecting Flor or the love of Priscila, what do you choose?

* Boobalot has dancers like FELS old Badlove Bar without singing, Jairo in his kingdom answers his phone, it is Lucio at the jail begging, can you do something for me? Jairo, advise is that he doesn't need his help, You need a lawyer. Lucio tries to threaten, If you don't help get me out of here, I will tell them that it was you who killed Manzanaresl Jairo makes threats fo his own so we leave. Lucio in jail looking plenty worried. Jairo looks at his kingdom with his usual jaunty bravado.

Papa climbs the stairs with sudden interest in what Fernanda is doing. Are you going to be out long (demorar)? Fernanda lies and says she is going out for dinner with Erika. Santi, tells Fernanda at the bottom of the stairs that he has been out looking for Abora and is sure that Dominga has her .

Fernanda says she will help him look for Abora when she returns she has to keep her appointment with Franco. Aurora where are you, Santi says clutching at flowers.

Abora asks the slobbering, greasy fingered Domnga for five minutes. She sneers, what do you want 5 minutes for? To say goodbye to Santi. Abora promises to come back but greasy fingers hands her keys.

Steve speculates, Who is Fernanda going out with tonight, Eduardo or Franco? They are interrupted by Gardenia, Erika has arrived. Franco asks for her to wait for a minute, Gardenia is disgusted but goes back and tells Erika. Gardenia is jealous of her and says she feels like (tengo ganas) devastating her (desolarla)

Barbara is ail dressed up and is gong out to a business meeting according to her, Gonzo who usually doesn't notice who goes where, wants to know with whom and wonders if she would be annoyed if he stayed home. Barbara acknowledges that Gonzo he is always bored (and boring) at these things and she doesn't mind while she puts on her coat with a I love you see ya later (chump). Gonzo has a second thought on this day, When I tell Barbara that my daughter has confidence in Franco there are going to be big problems .

Barbara meets up with Cadho on the stairs. They exchange info on his progress on searching Las Animas for Franco clues. She wants to get the goods on Franco as soon as possible. I promise to carry you info (including the birth certificate) hasta le carnet when his mother gave birth to him.

* Franco comes in to Erika with Steve. She coyly asks if she is interrupting. Steve steps forward claiming, Franco has to go out but I have all the time in the world. And good news we have the date of the big party and the Elizaldes will all get invitations. Steve gives a big push to Erika's already over inflated ego, she will be the official hostess (anfitriona). Steve should die from the looks Franco gives him.

Domingo is still menacing, You have one hour and if you want to tell your warrior goodbye, these are my conditions.

Erika leaves so happy that she is the partner (pareja) of Franco. Erika kisses all the way out the door. Franco is furious, Don't you realize that this will be playing a dangerous game? This is not a game you are playing. I don't want to mislead Erika, but you will help her get revenge on Camilho Erika is going to be so happy being the hostess role while putting down Camlho. You can't ask Fernanda to assume this role at this point. And at this moment you should be arriving at the restaurant where Fernanda is now arriving. Fernanda is stepping out of her car an the restaurant at that very moment.

Dominga makes another string of insults like weakling (canija) you better return in just one hour, what are you going to do? Abora the addled says, I am going to the house of Gonzo and Barbara tell him I am starving, poor (muerto de hambre). okay go but you have no more than one hour. We have to get back to the hovel (jacal).

Franco shows up late at the restaurant, sorry something came up to delay me. What do you feel like having? (que apetece) did you order? She seems stern and leads off with, and what is so important that you wanted to deal (tratar) with me with such urgency (tanta urgencia)??

Next: Oops the terrible twosome track Fernanda and Franco to the restaurant, Barb sits in the cafe part and talks to Cad who skulks in the bushes like the rat he really is. All we need is for Erika to show up but they don't show us that fun event.

Great and interesting recap as always Cheryl. Thanks for the hard work. Santiago screaming Aurora's name in the pueblo is the stupidest thing I've seen so far. How the heck would he know where to find her? Almost like me going to Albuquerque yelling your name out there.

Cute Aurora with her beautiful bangs needs to smother Dominga with a pillow when she sleeps and forever be out of her clutches. That is the only bad thing she needs to do to escape from the physical, verbal and psychological abuse of Dominga after all these years.

Did you guys ever notice that Silvia Navarro and Susana Gonzales could be sisters. Both are beautiful bu I prefer Silvia more, though I could have both. ;) :)

I lost power at my house for 4 hours and it came back at 10pm so I had to resort to Youtube. While watching one of the parts, I caught a glimpse of Erika in a Peugeot commercial with her Hi-lo haircut. Needless to say that is her natural hair. I like it though. Speaking of her, I did not like the top she was wearing. It makes her deltoids or shoulders look so small.

Gardenia the sexy disappointed me in withholding the letters. She inadvertently will torture Ed/FR by doing this.

Babs showed some depth of character and emotion and some weakness. See, she is not all bad.

The advaces preview in youtube showed Camilo trying to break in Las Animas and Steve about to pummell him with a baseball bat.

Ibarramedia

Oh dear, the recap was excellent but this sounds like an unwatchable episode, full of painful scenes and no actual sizzling Fernanda/Eduardo action.

You DO have a way with words, amiga. "poor me clothes", "nookie-proof high collar", "sinking socks" (which I misread as STINKING socks", Boobalot and Jairo looking at his kingdom with "jaunty bravado". Delicious.

Now, at the risk of being tiresome, I'm going to defend our little Aurora. Yes, her constant backing down and groveling is annoying to the max! (one reason I probably won't watch this) BUT when a child, particularly a mild-mannered child, has been abused from birth on, he or she believes what she constantly hears...that she is no good, worthless, undeserving of any happiness and she quickly learns to do anything she can to appease the much larger much more powerful tormentor.

"The worm can turn" eventually but it takes time and a lot of support from other people. We can only hope that eventually she'll come to believe she is worthy of Santiago's love and inclusion in his family...but given how she's been raised, this is going to be difficult.

For those of us who grew up in nurturing homes, in a country where women had equal educational opportunities (we'll leave the matter of salaries aside for now)Aurora may seem like a sniveling bore; but I see her as an abused and terribly damaged child-woman who still needs help growing up and standing up for herself.

Thanks, Cheryl~~~The look on Fr'ed's face while locked in Error's fond embrace was priceless. His eyes were shooting daggers at the scheming Esteve. [Haven't we all had wellmeaning friends talk us into doing something that we knew was not a good idea ??I am raiding my hand. Yes, Mary Jane, I am talking about you.] Fr'ed , you have problemos. Everybody wants you, Man ! Que lastima. It's probably just like when you were the star quarterback on your school team. So, what did you do then ? It's fairy tale theater : Santi as Prince Charming , and Aurora as Cinderella, and Dominga as the wicked Something or Other. Will Aurora really return to Dominga's grimy clutches ? I am thinking more and more that Gardenia will end up with Esteve. In Alborada, faithful bodyguard Marcos took Luis's inconvenient mistress Perla off his hands and made an honest woman of her. Likewise in Amor Real, Manuel's faithful lawyer Sixto took Manuel's conniving housekeeper off his hands. The writers like to tidy the castoff mujers up so that the hero does not appear unherolike.

Cheryl: I would volunteer a recapping stint but I would have to create my own dialogue (since my Spanish skills are so abyssmal) so I could insert something like Anyballs admitting "I am a closet Rock Hudson" or Gonzo asking Babs to read Green Eggs & Ham to him. It might be amusing but it would definitely be totally off base! You recappers are the BEST & I wish I could come close to your level of excellence. I bow to you.

In the meantime, am I the only one who cringes at the Dominatrix/Abora scenes? I really want Abora to just bash her over the head with an empty jug of whatever cheap liquor the old bat slurps. Grrrrr.

Fr/Ed's schemes are destined to bite him on his scrumptious fanny. At some point, every female (ex the drooling viewers) will hate him. Errorika, Nanda, Denia, & even Babs all seem to think he loves them. Anvils ahead!!!

Perfect punishment: CadmilHO does his peeping Tom routine while Abora is captive, Dominatrix catches him & thinks he's hot for her. She compromises his morals in such a disgusting way that he takes a vow of celibacy para siempre.

Maggarita
:-P

Thanks for the recap Cheryl. It was a painful episode to watch. I can't stand to watch Dominga yank Abora around by her hair. And the part where she practically pinched her head was unbearable. I hope there's a really big pie cart heading Dominga's way. FF

It is going to take some time for Abora to stand up for herself but still...

I'm with you Ibarramedia. I didn't like Erika's outfit either. Well let's face it, I just don't like Erika! :P

I'm with you Maggarita. There were a number of weapons in that room.

This was the first MEPS episode that left me bored to tears (similar to FELS which left me bored to tears with every episode). Slofia, whoops I mean Abora, is getting on my last nerve. 45 minutes with her, and Dominga the repulsive, was 44 minutes of overkill. And Meester James, please exit and go back to Acacia.

Great recap, Comadre Cheryl! Lots of delicious descriptive phrases. "Nookie proof Peter Pan collar" "lacsomuch" "boobalot" and many more.

Abora is so annoying, but JudyB's explanation works for me. I hope she brakes through sooner than later. Every time Dominga grabs her by the hair I want to pop her in the nose.

Esteve should have told Ed/Fr that his only way out is for Ed/Fr to get the hyena and expose all the evil. Then, beg for Fernanda's forgiveness. Which of course, eventually she will forgive him.

I've seen this routine many times in the novelas: The gal loves him and will 'make' him love her. Or, he's hers to 'have' at any cost. Is this just delusion, or the belief that love can be owned or controlled? Anywho, Denia and Errorika are despicable for trying to manipulate people to get what they want...
jb

Cheryl, great recap and lesson as usual. I envy your trip.

Maggarita your recaps might be a lot more fun than last night's episode. I can watch blood and gore but abuse -nunca, nunca.

Shame on Denia. I suppose this is another part of the plot - who finds them next?

rsk

Was that Gardenia's room at Margarita's house or at Las Animas? I'm confused about where she actually lives.

Cheryl: Thanks for the great recap.

I'm confused. Is the girl's name Aurora or Abora? I like Aurora better.

Gardenia is now on the going-to-get-an anvil in the head list. I didn't like her temper tantrums before, and now I can't stand her. She broke the code, and I think she will become more and more dangerous because she is living in a fantasy land. I thought FrEd gently explained the situation to her. She just didn't want to get it.

Finally, Barb and Fernanda change their dresses. We've been waiting all week for this dinner.

Cheryl: I haven't had any success in finding a part-time recapper to take over the third Thursday of the month either. Hey y'all, recapping isn't all that hard. It's fun to jump in and get involved. Nobody cares if you get it exactly correct. That's part of the fun, i.e., to rehash and figure it all out the next day. I agonized over my first two "sub" recaps, but that was not necessary. Everybody appreciates what we do.

Cheryl, thank you for the recap. I was also wondering how looong has Fer been wearing that yellow skirt?

I am firing eSteve as "the voice of reason." I totally (!) disagree with his counsel to bury Eduardo and continue the lie of Franco S. for the rest of his life.

If FrEd has a pet rabbit, he better hide it from Gardenia, or else don't eat the stew. Ack.

And note to Camilo: If you're wearing black for evening undercover work, don't wear shoes that are visible from a mile.

Sorry Cheryl! I skipped your earlier request for a substitute because I thought I might be subbing for someone else those weeks. Then that fell through and I volunteered for Melissa. :(

If worst comes to worst, a group recap will be fun! I'd be happy to post a heading.

Thank you CherylNM. So hilariously descriptive and I feel your pain describing the groveling Abora. Get smart get up and call on your Ancestor's blood, i.e. Barb, to free yourself of this (as mommie would say) insect.

Fernanda's clothes. Not only "...high cut nookie proof Peter Pan..." but burnished copper?! does NOthing for her colored hair. MAYbe the costumers are trying to say something about the character? But what? what? what! Now the hanging slip was "Best In Show".

Great and very funny recap Cheryl. I'm still smarting over Gardenia's guile. Who could have guessed? I at least expected her to go ahead and turn them over to Eddie. I did detect at least a glimmer of remorse as she hid them.

Cheryl and Novelera, I finished Detectives Salvages. It is absolutely worth reading. Roberto Bolaño had a unique and compelling writing style. I've begun 2666, I'll report back., though it may be a while. It's over 1000 pqges.

Carlos

Me too Margaritta, I had my eye on the chair.

What was that thing Fernanda was wearing? It was awful. I couldn't believe she was going to wear that thing out in public.

In grade school when someone's slip was showing we would say "It's snowing down south." In Dominga's case it was more like an avalanche!

Thanks, Cheryl, for the vocab and recap. gotta add my statement of disappointment to everyone else's about Denia not delivering the letters. Yes, she did look remorseful at the time, but was it because of the guilt she was feeling, or the fear of getting caught. I watched it on youtube before i watched the episode on TV, so was disappointed twice.

All in all, a real drag of an episode. With Denia's hiding the letters, then Abora's kidnapping/abuse, that about corked it for me. Outside of thta, there wasn't much else. I sure hope that Abora drinks her milk, grows bone in her spine, and becomes Aurora. Why the knoldge of her mother is so important is anyone's guess. Someone has been paying Dominga to hide her for all these years. While I would want to know why, the price of admission to that ride (returning to Dominga's hovel-WTF?) would be too much, especially when she is loved and accepted by Santi.
I liked the youtube previews- Esteve ready to boink Cad with a club. And the Peugot commercial with Erika had no transition from the show, I couln't figure out what was happening at first.

I hope that tonite's episode is better...

Carlos and Dave~~~We hate to say we told you so, but......we told you so. Mujers know mujers. Gardenia wants Eduardo , so ethics are not going to stand in her pretty, sexy way. I'm undecided whether Esteve will end up rescuing the honor of Gardenia or Error. Both are delusional in their lusty hopefulness concerning Fr'ed. [Gardenia is hopelessly devoted to Eduardoooo, while Error is smitten by wheeling/dealing Powhere Meelk Franco.] However, Gardenia is hiding things from Ed and not playing fair, whereas Error is only guilty of being vapid and acting like a spoiled 14 year-old. Therefore, Error might be the one who ends up in Esteve's arms , but Esteve did seem to appreciate Gardenia's cooking skillz and her abundant charms and pretty face. The more I watch, the more I agree with you guys that Gardenia with her curly, flowing auburn locks, her humble peasant skirts and tops, and her many faults is the prettiest peach on the tree.

Paso, I've got you covered for the 3rd Thursday. And Cheryl, I can take those two Wednesdays for you.

5ft. Thanks very much. I look forward to working with you.

Thanks for the excellent company and support. You all are wonderful.

Yeah, Ibarramedia, I could see Silvia and Susana as sisters. You are so magnanimous to offer taking both of them on. What a generous guy! ha. And I do like the idea of Esteve taking a bat to CamilHo.

Judy, I am so glad you gave us a plausible and so sensitive explanation of the effects of long term abuse on a personality. I will try to be more
tolerant, although the writers do an excellent job of making Aurora maddeningly passive when I am sure she could topple Dominga with a well place fist to the gut. I just couldn't translate all the vile abuse coming out of Dominga's mouth. I can't get the motivation of her being so mean to this person who has kept her in salary, however slight, for so many years. I am with Connie and so many that have trouble watching the abuse being delivered so graphically.

Susanlynn, your theory of how to get our hero Franco out of the clutches of so many desperate women is really plausible. I too notice how the plot doles out couple units near the end and usually they pass out babies including taking care to place all the orphans with loving families. A bit trite but always makes me cry with the sweetness of it all.

Hey, Marggarita, your offer is full of fun. I just heard from Jody who has graciously offered to take the two nights for me. But, do feel free to continue entertaining us with your fun world view in the comments, we can always use more laughter.

Pasofino, I hope you find someone to help. You bring up a painful subject with our betrayer number one this week. Who would have expected the darling Gardenia would cross to the dark side. I kind of think from the lingering camera shots of her looking almost repentant or doubtful that she won't turn into a world class monster. And perhaps Esteve will take her on. He isn't the usual sidekick though, remember he is the really, really rich friend. He and Gardenia would be a strange crossing of culture and class. It might work!

5 ft Latina and Julie, thanks for the help and empathy, but Jody has agreed to help me out so I am relieved and thankful to have that covered.

Pasofino, the girl's name is definitely Aurora but the other day Melissa dubbed her ABora and I just picked it up for fun. After Judy's enlightening remarks on passive behavior in the abused, I am resolved to try to be more tolerant. However, I must agree with those here who have trouble watching the disturbing violent scenes.

Cheryl, I enjoyed this recap to the max. It's definitely 5 star. I don't like Aurora character. It's not because I don't understand what she's going through. I do. If this were real life instead of a novela, I'd be the first getting involved in organizing a group to help her. But since this is a novela, when I sit down to my TV to be entertained by fiction, she's just not the type character that appeals to me.
Gardinia might have felt a twinge of remorse when she decided to steal the letters, but since it did wasn't enough to make her change her mind it doesn't count for much. There's a saying that "ugly is as ugly does". In the case of Gardenia, I think the opposite might be true for the guys. If "pretty is as pretty does" then that would explain why everything Gardenia does has a bit of cuteness about it. OK guys, I'm teasing put the daggers away. I wouldn't tease if I thought you couldn't take it ... especially you Carlos. I've been waiting to get back at you ever since you made that remark about a man would do a lot for a good horse!! :)

Thanks, Cheryl, a very fun recap of what I found to be a somewhat boring episode. I thought the endless scenes with Abora and Dominatrixinga were, well, endless. But I do appreciate the vocab you threw in as to some of D's little witicisms.

I also agree with those who think Steve is not so much the wise seer as we thought he was. Bury Edwardo? Convince yourself he's dead? Don't think so, since so many others (including darling Denia) already know the secret. And Steve's telling Fr/Ed that Errorika won't be hurt? Please.

I also agree with those who felt the Fer's clothing choice was somewhat less than optimal. Someone should give her the phone number of Alicia on Tontas, who always looks sexy but refined (well, maybe not THAT refined)!

Yeah, what is with the clothing for the chicas? Seems like one extreme or the other...ho or virgin. Nanda with the turtlenecks (in Mexico?? Vermont in December, yes but in perpetually sunny Mexico...wtf?) looks just plain silly and I can't stand the bizarro bare shoulder/bra strap look for Errorika. Denia goes from cossetted servant to slighty sluttish Laura Ingalls and our poor, poor Martina gets stuck looking trampy even as a nurse. C'mon, wardrobe crew! Not as bad as FELS (words can describe that fashion disaster) but women are more nuanced than the diametrically opposed visions of slut or saint.

Maggarita
:-/

Awww Man! Hate it when I lose my comment, and it wasn't even on the clipboard. Shhhugar! Anywho, Cheryl, I made some kind of lame comment about being intimidated about how well you guys write and being scared to try recapping. I am thinking about it, though.

Haven't read all the comments but did read the recap. Muchisimas Gracias, Cheryl! That Dominga is jealous and resentful spending her life raising somebody else's brat, envious that Aurora may have a chance to escape the hood. Dominga herself has probably never had any goals in life, maybe in a younger body she worked in her town's own BigCups cafe. She just a bitch. Ok.

I could slap Esteve! He's just wringing his gringo hands in delight at all the drama he's stirring up. I know he's trying to be helpful but, dang, dude, get - a - frickin - life!

Eddie, clear Las Animas, light a fire, have a really nice dinner catered in (DO NOT let Gar-Dam-ya cook) and tell Nanda the truth. Hell, even tell her the Troot if you want to. Level, Man, and then woo her!! I should send you a copy of James Ingram, Find 100 Ways. C'mon, Man!

Khalilah

I like Santiago's role in the novela, but I hate his over acting. Ugh, all those stupid faces and dumb ass movements. I can't take them. On the other hand, Dumbinga is so well done. Right down to her slovenly clothes to her greasy fingers. Dumbinga and Abora's is the classic abuser/abused relaltionship. It's painful to watch but it's all so true.

Cheryl, excellent recap of a rather sad episode. Your humor was spot on and appreciated, particulary: "As fast as she can pivot her sagging black socked feet, she posts for the village." :)

So many great comments...

I'm with Doris and others who were extremely disappointed in Esteve's urging of Ed to forget his true identity and believe he actually is Franco Santoro. QTH? Ill advised to say the least.

I still see Esteve with Lili. He and Gardenia are too different and her recent betrayal makes it less likely.

I've always liked Aurora and find her gentleness and sweetness strengths, not weaknesses. There isn't anything remotely redeemable about Dominga -the actress playing her is doing an excellent job.

Kahlila: I thought I'd humiliate myself when I volunteered to be a sub recapper. I worried way too, too much. Then, when I did my first "real" recap I worried way, way too much. I wanted to be brilliant and witty.

Finally, I decided that I just had to be myself and give you guys what I saw the way I saw it. I get the job done and every now and then I come up with some good snark and humor. Try it, you'll love it.

Great recap Cheryl. I love your style. Don't change a thing. Your snark is your style and you have the right to call it as you see it. I happen to like Aurora(I'm adopted and life wasn't always good to me). But like someone else said, this is fiction. Also, for the work that you recapers do, you deserve to call the shots and the names. If we took a poll I'd bet we'd find as many people who don't like her as those who do. And hopefully none of the reasons has to do with lack of sympathy or understanding of what the character is going through. Rlf from Beaufort

Kahlila~~~AHHHHHHHH...James Ingram...Love his voice..like butter. Maybe we should play a little Al Green for the starcrossed lovers. Perhaps ''Let's Stay Together'' or my fav ''Love and Happiness''. Then , we could top their night off with some vintage Sade or Anita Baker or Brian McKnight or Etta James or Barry White. Right on ..right on...right on. Julie~~~I heard ''She Drives Me Crazy'' by The Fine Young Cannibals [Roland Gift] on the music tv station I listen to and thought of Highlander. Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast.

Barry White is the man! Keith Sweat is pretty good too.

That was 'Edwardo' ru.uunn.ing to the resturant table to be with Fernanda last night. And out of breath too. I want him to be Franco at the table. That would be hot. Esteve told him that's the best plan.
This Director does'nt miss a beat presenting the actor's personality conflict.

Alice, wow, thanks for remembering.I thought no one noticed,or more likely, tha everyone was simply nodding his head in tacit agreement. Kahlilah, Esteve has a life, it's named Franco Santoro. Pasofina, I've always considered your work witty and brilliant. Carlos

Yes Carlos we remembered. And once again I said 'naughty!' as I banged my desk smothering my laughter.

As I watched the scene on the street with Dominga and Aurora and all the people walking by and doing nothing--how many of us would really stop and interfere? I like to think I would.

Carlos: Aw, gee, thanks.

Connie - I thought the same thing you did (would anyone interfere?) and what struck me is that Aurora was not yelling "HELP!" That was the deal-breaker for me when I processed that scene. I think people in the U.S. would have kept walking, too.

Terrific recap as usual Cheryl! I loved your line about the Peter Pan collar!

Denia the Damned - she's not coming back from the dark side very soon.

I can barely stand to watch Errorika! Doesn't she wonder why her "boyfriend" doesn't speak to her and she finds out everything through jabberjaw Esteve? It's not like Franco's not in the room, either! Que verguenza!

Abora - ugh! I cringed through that whole business with Dominga. She had more than one chance to get away and she blew it.

My beanie is scheduled for it's 60,000 mile tune up over the weekend - and not a minute too soon!

Cad doesn't seem to be very useful or talented just like his bro Anyballs? and his dear dense Daddy. I wonder if he will start a successful new career path as a cat burglar...we will see soon enough. I guess tonight. GinCA

Not with those neon white shoes he won't!

Kahlila, I think you would be great at recapping. I always enjoy your witty comments.

Fer/Ed better start drinking more Power Milk to give him some backbone - he is going to need it with Erika. He is sinking deeper and deeper into her plans.

i thought magaritta's comment about dominga being spied upon by cadmilho and her thinking he had the hots for her was hilarious...!!! even more that he decided to become celibate...!!!

also i wonder what fer thought when the costume designers gave her that ugly, ugly dress to wear for her first dinner date with fr/ed...

ann-bklyn

Maggarita, Dominga and Camilo?...Very funny, but I don't buy it. Even Dominga has some standards. Carlos

Pasofino, thanks, Kid. I'll try not to be such a chicen next time somebody asks for help. Gracias, Amiga.

Susnlynn, Girrrrrrl! James Ingram can still do it for me! You shoulda seen him on a tribute to Quincy Jones, he sang his arse off and the hostess, what's that commentator on PBS that moderated. .Gwen Ifil (sp) my girl was visibly moved, fanning herself and everything. Yes, James Ingram Find 100 Ways. As somebody said, we're ready for Eddie to use those lips!!

Thanks, rsk, I may inflict myself on y'all one day.

Carlos y the other men: What do you think of Esteve's "strategic" moves for the party and Eddie's love life?
Since we gals read GarDamnya like a book, maybe you can give me some insight, cause it's starting to get as annoyed as Eddie.

Khalilah

Kahllah, glad you asked. Eddie clearly needed help. Who better than a handsome, glib, cunning Gringo. Esteve may seem a bit cavalier with Eddie's future, but this is a man with a plan...and an impish sense of humor. Oh yeah, Eddie's definitely in good hands. Let's hope Nanda has a sense of humor. Carlos

I though Garappata meant fleas? Anyway, I love Martina's nurse uniform. Thank you very much. :) As a matter of fact, I would love it if she grew her fingernails just a tad bit longer.

So do you all like the new ending credits where beautiful Fernanda is sleeping like a baby? Makes you feel like caressing her hair and kissing her on the lips. Lips like sugar.......

Steve is using props and diversionary tactics as his motive for the party. To establish Franco Santoro as a true hard hitter and pezzonovante or big shot, he must mingle with the hi9gh society crowd. Again, shades of the Count of Monte Cristo. People will not doubt him as a power broker after this..

Does anyone else think the walls in Dominga's hotel room look familiar? (Dark blue on the bottom, light blue on top, a red design halfway up) I think it was the girls' bedroom in FELS.

I'd like to think I'd help Aurora if I saw Aurora wrestling her on the sidewalk, but I can't swear that I would. But I'd at least call the cops.

Sometimes all you have to do is say something... anything... "do you need help?" and all the other passersby who were also wondering if they should get involved will then step in now that someone else has broken the ice, so to speak.

Cheryl, thanks for that excellent recap. I missed some spots while I sneaked over to the George Strait tribute concert.
Thanks to all for the great and funny comments. Carlos, I had to break out laughing (in the library) at your analysis: "Even Dominga has some standards."
La Paloma

I have a theory after seeing barbara show emotion. Maybe she had aurora at a young age and her parent took the child and put it up for adoption. Barbara kills her parents out of revenge. Armenio knows this and holds this against her until she does his beckoning. Afterwards she gets her child?? Possibly the child was his and hers and they jplotted the murder.

Thanks for great advice, Julie. I was wondering what I could do in that sidewalk Dominga/Abora struggle. It might be dangerous to get involved in some domestic situations. Dominga isn't such a threat unless she sits on her. By at least saying something, brings attention and other people will also help out...
jb

Thanks Carlos y Ibarra, Steve's plan sounds reasonable, I will trust that Eddie is in good hands with Esteve. Watching Esteve now with the bat watching Cadmillo. I wish he had something with some lead in it! Speaking of Trust, nobody trusts the Police on these shows!

Anon at 826, interesante. I won't start trying to do the age calculations though.
