La Fea Más Bella #275-276 3/30/11 Wedding Bell Blues

Capitulo 275.
Read Amanda's original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

I neglected to post this "Full Circle" moment yesterday. Fernando is pulling an all-nighter on the script and Lety checks in on him, just like when Lety worked late on the balance and Fern checked in on her.

What a mess yesterday was. Today's a new day with a clean slate. If you couldn't find yesterday's summary (some glitch on Caray), you can find it at this link. I STRONGLY recommend that you at least look at #273. It's a very important episode. If you still want to post there, go ahead. I'll be checking the page through the day.

1. Marcia is pacing outside the wedding hall, and Luigi comes alongside as a friend. She weeps that the important thing is that Tom loves her friend and he didn’t back out two days before the wedding.

2. Ali suggests that Tom drink more so he won’t be as upset by the surprise. Ali’s dad’s still not there.

3. Caro tells Omar that she’s not a shadow, she’s real (unlike Aurora). He says he himself is only an apparition. She kisses him and asks if that’s real. He gently pulls away and says, “I can’t. I’m not the same anymore.”

4. Lety doesn’t want to join the señoritas to catch the bouquet but MamaJ and Aldo push her. Lety catches it and Fernando mourns. Fernando doesn’t join the men gathered to catch the garter, but Tom throws it over them, right into Fern’s hand. Outside, he finds Lety nearly crying.
F: You must be very happy because you caught the bouquet (oh, yes, her joy is written all over her tears face). That means that very soon you’ll marry Aldo, right? I hope that you two will be very happy.
L: No, Aldo and I haven’t talked about marriage (only shacking up).
F: Can you imagine? Only imagine, of course. How would it be if you and I were still together. You got the bouquet and I got the garter. (Seriously.) I’d marry you tomorrow morning, Lety.

5. Aldo asks Lety if this whim to get married could become reality. Lety giggles and says that if he has something to say, say it. So he says, “Let’s go back to the party.” In the space of five minutes, two galáns have talked to Lety about marriage. See any difference in her reactions?

6. The manager asks for the balance for the hall. Tom paid 50%, but Alidaddy never paid the balance. Tomy yells, asking why papi never showed up. Alicia starts crying, and Tom pays. Saimon and Paula give up their Acapulco trip (from the contest) so Tom and Ali can have a honeymoon. Ali conveniently falls asleep as soon as they get to the hotel.

7. In the morning, Fernando is eager for filming to start but is unwilling to show Luigi the script.

8. Fernando symbolically puts the loan payment between Aldo and Lety. It pays 50% of the debt, so he and Aldo are equal partners. For having just received $3.25M, Aldo doesn’t look very happy, but Lety looks proud of Fern. Aldo leaves.

9. Fernando sits on the throne like he owns the world. Lety gazes at him from across the desk, just like the old days. She tells him she’s sure the script will be wonderful (support). He doesn’t want anyone to know he wrote it. This is his way to prove to himself that he can make the company succeed.

10. Marcia and Omar plant doubts in Fernando about the viability of the project. Lety tells Caro that Aurora will never appear again (6 times). Luigi is in a panic. No actor will work on their project without seeing a script. Fernando says he’ll star in it instead.

Capitulo 276.
Read k-Fuego’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Aldo yammers about food to Carmina and Esther.

2. Fern reiterates that he plans to act in the pilot. Luigi throws a fit. Lui, Omar, Marcia, and Caro read the script. Fern is scared they won’t like it, but they love it. Fern says he wrote it, and they don’t believe him.

3. Lety invites Aldo to lunch. He begs off because he’s working hard. Lety is jealous that he’s with Carmina, and Lety’s sure Carmina wants to take her man.

4. Fernando’s paycheck is 1% of what it was when he was president. Omar gets nothing because he’s on commission and we know how much he works. Fern says he’ll buy lunch for the tres hermanos if they go to Comidilla. The cuartel goes there too. Fern and Lety can’t take their eyes off each other, and everyone sits together.

5. Luigi makes script modifications. Fern tells him he can’t, and they get into their usual fight. Fern does a really funny imitation of Luigi, tells Luigi he’s exceptionally ordinary, and says Ruli doesn’t want him anymore. Luigi slaps Fern.

6. Fernando performs a very dramatic introduction to the series and everyone is impressed (wasn’t that fun?).

7. Aldo pouts because Lety is busy all the time. She says the pilot is very important. GSNAK.

8. Everyone watches as they film the beginning of the show. A big drum turns, revealing Agent 00-FEO in salmon-colored plaid slacks (What? No bell bottoms?). We never see the face, but everyone is shocked.

Someone who couldn't find yesterday's summary, and CAN find today's, please post to let me know the system is working.

If you never saw yesterday's, I STRONGLY recommend it. You can find it at this link. It's a very important episode. If you still want to post there, go ahead. I'll be checking the page through the day, since we had so many problems with the link yesterday.

Today's song: Working My Way Back to You, by The Spinners.

Love the song, Paula!!
and another hysterical moment in today's eps...
at the end when Fernando is introducing his character, the character works for 'la federacion de expertos operativos (FEO)' LOL!! now he considers himself a FEO... too funny.

Don't you just love today's photos? Yesterday's, too! Thanks a mil, Pata!

I have a couple of leftovers from yesterday.

Marta, you said, "Once Lety begins to look inside for the 'beauty' then Aurora will dissappear and we will SEE the internal beauty Lety finally discovers. But Aurora is not the RIGHT answer in the appearance side, just like Aldo is not the RIGHT answer in the significant other side. Aurora is another attempt at resolving her self-image issues (like the dreaded green outfit early on)."
Marvelous analysis, Marta!

Also from yesterday. Fernando sees recovering Conceptos from Aldo as a crucial step in recovering Lety from Aldo. With Fern’s all-nighter, Lety HELPS him with the project, IOW she’s helping him win her back. What’s more, she breaks her date for a second attempt at a romantic evening at Aldo’s house, in order to help Fern with the project that is meant to win her back. (At cap 261, "if she married Aldo they would never have sex - he'd always chase her around the house, but she'd always have a headache." We see that prediction confirmed so far!)

Lety decides not to leave since Fernando is still working. I think that’s another sign that they have switched back to their original roles – she’s his assistant and he’s the de facto president. A good assistant stays until her boss leaves. Whereas Fern as president didn’t stay when Lety was working late.

I thought yesterday's wedding scenes were pretty worthless. But if you skipped today's, you missed some very good stuff.

Luigi jokes that Fernando wants to be the next Mauricio Garcés, but it’s true. In a 2008 interview, Jaime told Chicuela that they were working on securing the rights to remake Garcés’ Arroz Trilogy, with Jaime playing Garcés’ parts.

When Fern performs the intro to the show, various action clips play behind him. I suspect that several are from the Zapata movie Camil did in 2003 with Alejandro Fernandez. Without the naked butt scene.

When Omar hugged Fernando, did you notice the naughty bits?

GP, thank you for the answer. Until the problem gets resolved, I have two bandaide solutions.

1. Check the COMPLETE list of recap titles, as opposed to the list of Fea-only recaps. Someone said the complete list included the ones gobbled up in the glitch. You probably want to put that link into your Favorites for now.

2. At the end of the comments on ANY Caray recap page, you'll see a link labeled "Home." That will take you to the full text of all recent recaps, but no comments. To see the comments, click on the "Permalink" link at the end of the recap you want to see.

The problem is, this glitch is intermittant. Some people can see the new summaries and some people can't.

Ok am I crazy or did Luigi spill the beans today and NO ONE IN THAT OFFICE caught it? At first I thought Fern heard, but then he didn't do anything about it...I thought for sure Luigi said this is almost like when Lety told me she was Aurora! Or something to that effect...Fern and Omar gave each other a look and i thought for SURE...we were about to resolve that stupid story line...Sorry for shouting (in all CAPS), but that was nearly the most important part of today's caps for me. LOL

I also loved the use of space today with Lety and Fern in the office...did you notice how she also ended up in her old office with him closing the door behind her? I clearly see the transitions happening now...

The other thing that stood out to me today was the F.E.O. of the set they were doing the screen tests on (I'm assuming that's what was happening in the scenes in cap. 276. Can't wait for this Fern reveal tomorrow...Lety's face looked shocked...did he get a FEO makeover?

I'm sure there's a ton I'm not mentioning, but these were the things that sort of caught my attention watching today's caps...

Thanks Paula for all of the hard work in keeping the discussions going and getting the recaps posted. I think that the song is def very appropriate for today...

Ahh Marta - I just realized I was typing at the same time as you and Paula so I repeated some of the same points as you. I didn't know what the F.E.O. initials meant so thank you for the clarifications.

One other thing I noticed about Lety returning to her role as assistant is the fact that she goes to lunch with the cuartel and Fern, Omar and Marcia go to lunch together. It's as if Lety has returned to hanging out with her crew again like in at the beginning of the series. It was a very clear separation of the execs and the support staff...

Paula - I can see the link from the COMPLETE list link you posted. I've added it as a favorite now. Thanks!

Thank you Paula for working so hard to keep us going through these glitches.

Thank you Pata for the wonderful screen shots.

Can't wait to see what Fernando is going to look like in the pilot. (I didn't see salmon plaid trousers -- I saw white bell bottoms. I'd better take another look.)

Fernando's exercises to transition into his actor role were hilarious.

The scene where Fernando tells Lety that if he were her novio & they caught the wedding bouquet & garter that he would marry her tomorrow morning ... How touching! the looks that these two are sharing are burning up the screen.

Paula H said...
GP, yes, yes, YES!

Fernando has gotten back the presidency in all but name!
1. He hands Aldo the receipt and IMMEDIATELY steps behind the desk, while Lety remains in front of the desk.
2. Aldo leaves, and Lety supports Fern like a good client, saying the script will be wonderful.
3. Then Fernando plants himself in the throne – he doesn’t just perch. He OWNS that chair!
4. She calls him “Don Fernando,” but he calls her simply “Lety.”
5. He says the script will show he can move the company forward – that’s a president’s duty, not an assistant’s.
6. He lays out the plan for presenting it to Jax.
7. He puts it into the desk drawer in the cave, and asks Lety to guard it while he’s out – again, a task he’d give his asst.
8. As you mentioned, Lety hangs out in the cave, and
9. she goes to lunch with her peers, the cuartel.
10. Fernando is back to fighting with Luigi, just like the old days.

In yesterday's caps, Patron Fern acquired three clients: Caro at the shoot, then Lety and Marcia at the office. Remember, after Doomsday he lost everyone; even Omar turned against him. So three new clients in one day is significant.

There is something very sexy about a guy in charge and nothing seems to be stopping Fernando. I hope he is does not do an Austin Powers! On second thought that could be fun. Maybe Omar can be mini-me....
Jenn

Jenn - would that make Ariel Dr. Evil then? hahahahaha

Paula,
***Zapata movie Camil did in 2003 with Alejandro Fernandez. Without the naked butt scene.***
Who's naked butt? Jaime's or Alejandro's? If you say Jaime's, I'm hunting down that movie....

I too LOVED the scene with Fern/Lety bouquet/garter. I also felt so bad that Fern had to see Lety kiss Aldo right after he proclaimed he would marry Lety tomorrow if he could. Sad.

I don't get why the Luigi/Fern fight scene? It didn't seem to preclude anything... Why did Luigi slap Fern then the whole incident went no where? It is a set-up for something in the future?

Thanks for pointing out F.E.O. I didn't catch that it spelled out (ugly). Okay, I admit I was mainly looking at Fern, not the background stuff Jajajaja

Thanks for the side by side pics of Lety depicting how she looked after Fern suggested marriage and how she looked after Aldo mentioned marriage. NOTE: Fern wants to MARRY her. Aldo has only SUGGESTED it. And the suggestion leaves a bad taste in Lety's mouth. (Ick, who could blame her.)

When is Lety going to realize Aldo is just a poor safe substitute. I hope it doesn't take until she ends up in bed with him... Horrors of all horrors! She has Fernando Mendiola as a comparison. (And we all know, she ain't gonna find anything better for her)

Can't wait for the taping of the pilot hope it comes soon.

Diann

Hi Paula, thanks for the post. I actually thought the little wedding dance at the end of yesterday and beginning of today was quite funny. I loved all the looks on every ones face. I loved how Fern did a dip with Lety. They partly got Lety's outfit right. Loved the really high shoes, the jacket and the white dress. They should have never put that brown turtle neck under it.

I know I am fixating on Lety's clothes but that green jacket she had on today was as bad as the one she wore when we had that sweet little interlude of Fern/Lety bliss before Aldo came back.

Well, yes Diann, it's Jaime's butt, but it's from a distance, and after only a moment he gets shot three times and dies. I've heard that the movie is so artsy as to be totally unintelligible. And VERY hard to find.

People have mentioned they want to see Fern and Lety heating up, or a happy time for them. In many ways, this IS that time. The two are having marvelous warm times as friends. Much more that Lety/Aldo with their ibby-dibby talk. Fern is flirting with her, he's declaring his love and asking for hers, he's getting physically close, and he's talking marriage. It's almost as if this is the stage of him having to work hard to win her heart. He never had to do that, the first time around. So now he's turning on the charm, proving that he's her hero, and in the days ahead he'll turn up the flirting to full steam, with the emphasis on steam! All to "win" his Lety.

Diann, I think the fight with Luigi is to show that he's president again. GP, Luigi thought it was a big joke when Lety told him she was Aurora. So when Fern said he wrote the script, Luigi thought it was just as big of a joke. Now, Fern knows that he DID write the script, it's not a joke. So maybe he should get a clue. But he didn't.

Pata, as for Lety's clothes, brace yourself. I call tomorrow's outfit, "pond scum jacket with algae print over a maternity blouse, with mustard skirt." I'm pretty sure she's wearing maternity blouses lately.

This is kind of semi-off-topic, but I have to ask in case someone knows: what is the name of the song everyone was dancing to at the beginning of #275 (and end of #274)? I remember this song from my childhood - for some reason I associate it with the circus (which made it perfect for this wedding)!

Julie, Marie on the old recap said it was called Over the Waves and it was later recorded as When You Are In Love, It's the Loveliest Night of the Year. Many people thought it was called The Skaters' Waltz.

Ah, I only had time to skim the old recaps. Thanks!

Skaters' Waltz? really? Hmm... it's similar, but not enough to mix them up. Instead, I used to think this "Over the Waves" thing was the Dr. Zhivago theme (Somewhere My Love, also not really close enough to mix them up). Go figure...

Brace yourselves ladies, because I've got a lot today. First, Aldo is to me like nails on a chalkboard. Lety leaves the wedding for a short time and because she's not back within the time that Aldo would want her to be, he goes to find her. My question is (although rhetorical) will she have to ask Aldo's permission to pea?

When Fernando mentioned marrying Lety, she had that besotted look of wonder on her face. When Aldo suggested marriage, Lety goes into her little girl voice (an attempt at distracting Aldo, I think) and looks like marriage with Aldo is the last thing she wants. I'm going back to a point I've made before. Lety knows that marriage means sex. Marriage to Fernando means great sex because she has already experienced it. The look on her face was wonder and hope that she could experience it again. Marriage to Aldo means unknown sex that Lety doesn't want to consider. She doesn't get excited by the idea of sleeping with Aldo like she does with Fernando.

The scene in the office was great. When Aldo starts getting too close to Lety in the office, she hides behind the desk. When Fernando starts getting closer, she gets up close and personal with him and allows him to go behind the desk. Big difference.

The look on Aldo's face when Fernando handed him a check and then said they were 50/50 partners was priceless. I think the only reason Aldo didn't throw it back into Fern's face was Lety's presence. She looked at Fernando with such pride. Lety never looked at Aldo that way when he rescued Conceptos by selling his home and restaurant.

Now on to what I was saying about Lety and Aurora. All of us have imperfections and parts of ourselves that we like to hide. Aurora is that hidden part for Lety and she's afraid of Aurora. Lety has had to suck it up and go on no matter what people have said to her. But Aurora is a person who won't take that abuse. She is what Lety wants to do but is afraid to do. The same thing with the looks. Lety is afraid of being pretty and having men attracted to her because she doesn't know how to handle that. Aurora does. So, in essence, Aurora is Lety's fantasy come to life. She's drawn to it and repelled by it, but that persona is still a part of Lety. At some point, she has to acknowledge that and take the parts of Aurora (not the bitchiness) and let them shine through Lety. Maybe a better way to put is that Aurora is Lety's mask and vice versa. The day has to come when the mask comes off. When it does, Fernando will accept it better than Aldo ever will.

Finally, I love the Fernando that is emerging in these episodes. I think Lety is falling back in love with him, unbeknownst to her. The look on her face after she and Fernando were so close at the desk looking at the computer monitor tells me that she suspects her feelings are changing but is scared to go there.

Okay, I'm done until I think of some more things. Well, one thing - Carmina needs to talk Aldo far, far away.

Uh, oh, no spell check. That's supposed to be pee and pea. Aldo sure does get pissed off (no pun intended) with Lety when she doesn't meet his demands and expectations. No wonder his wife ran off with another man. Probably with him, she could be imperfect but not with Aldo.

I know, I know some of you hate Aldo & I like him but I think going to look for Lety at the wedding was perfectly natural. She'd disappeared for quite a while. I also think that he's acting like most novios would if they knew that their novia was working so closely and such long hours with her ex. He's actually showing a fair amount of restraint.

All that said it is nice to see the budding (rebudding?) friendship / attraction between Fernando & Lety.

I agree with Barbara about the two parts of Lety's / Aurora's personality. I hope that we can begin to see an integration of the two personalities.

Someone mentioned Aldo working with his editor on the new book. I think that that's backwards. The editors called him in to help edit/oversee the book series that the two women are writing.

So far I'm disappointed in Carmina. I expected more heat from her character. But maybe soon.

Güera

Guera - as usual we are pretty much on the same page. I agree that I don't think that it was really out of character for Aldo to go look for his novia to make sure she was ok...I'm not so sure I could actually tolerate the dynamics that he, Lety and Fern share if I were there. I don't even consider myself to be overly posessive or jealous in nature (far from it), but the fact that Lety and Fern still work so closely together and they just broke up a few weeks ago...I just think that's bound to fail. I think he should have allowed her time to get over Fern instead of rushing into the relationship with Lety.

I am seriously surprised that no one in that office paid attention to Luigi today. I swear if the clues about Lety being Aurora were snakes, they would all be dead from the poisonous bites by now. At this point I'm changing my prediction to Ariel being the one to figure out that Lety is indeed Aurora. He's evil, but at least he's the only one that seems to pay attention at that place.

I think that Aldo must not be seriously discussing marriage with Lety because he senses that she's not truly committed to him. I don't think he wants to get his heart broken again...I could be wrong, but he has to know that she still loves Fern even though she's telling him (Aldo) that she loves him.

Paula - I'll have to go back and re-watch Fern and Omar hugging if I have time. Def missed any naughty bits there!

I haven't had time to read the full recaps yet, will try to do it now.

That had to be one of the longest TN weddings I've ever seen. Found myself watching the three at the lonely hearts table, Fern moping about Lety, Marcia because she has no one and Omar babbling on about that PITA Aurora while at the same time looking upset that Caro was leaving. Contrast that with the drunken rowdiness at the cuartel table.

I could not believe the little chat with the cuartel talking about how Ali's father always lets her down, first with the car then her apartment. Obviously we are nearing the end because now we have to have that group of witches grow consciences and turn into nice people.

I don't think I've ever seen a woman less thrilled with catching a bouquet and having her adored (gag me) novio talk about their wedding.

Interesting that Fern who in the beginning couldn't write a love note on a card to Lety has now reached the point where he writes a whole script and moreover one that Luigi, Omar and Marcia all found to be good. Obviously as part of his development he has learned to be comfortable enough with emotion to be able to put things down on paper,

Paula you can save yourself some work with anything involving Aldo by saying Aldo blathers, Aldo orders, Aldo pouts, Aldo stalks. It pretty much covers everything

Great screen shots! I love the comparisons.

Paula, your song for today is one of my favorites. It's perfect, very goal oriented and upbeat. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I don't think I need to see Camil's naked butt in Zapata. It looked just fine at the end of today's episode

Like Güera I'm disappointed in Carmina. She really heated up the screen in Gancho. What's with her in this one?

GP, I also made a little gasp when Luigi revealed the real truth. Just goes to show you, when something is right in front of your face it can be impossible to see.

Deciegirl, excellent point about Fernando's writing capabilities! I hadn't thought about it in those terms. Maybe writing in his diary has helped?

Great comments today everyone. Sorry I was a bit late to the party but I enjoyed watching, reading the recaps and cogitating over the comments.

Paula, thanks for the wonderful recap, summary and trivia about the episode. That's what makes this so fun!

ok - i finally got the chance to read the full recaps. I def wasn't paying close attention to the scenes today so I totally missed Fern's description of his script. He actually says that the women don't dig his character so I'm going to assume that the shocked look on Lety's face was because he gets some sort of a Feo makeunder tomorrow.

It also really bothered me a lot about no one picking up on Luigi mentioning that Lety told him she was Aurora, but then I thought about it - either yesterday or today I think Fern and Lety were getting into the elevator and she made a joke about having to go get into her mysterious woman clothes...that's what I understood at least. I remember thinking then - she tells the truth, but no one actually believes her...

It's interesting that Lety still hasn't read Fern's script yet, but she's been his source of unwavering support in these last few caps. Is there hope for our girl yet? Is she finally becoming a better person? In the transition of power between Lety and Fern - I'm wondering why it's always shown as Lety a step behind Fern, or on the other side of the desk - it's never a real partnership if you think about it. We've spent a lot of time here on this board discussing the differences in Lety's behavior when she's with Aldo vs. Fern, but I find it interesting that while Aldo keeps pushing her to be the leader of the company on the surface she seems to regress. While on the other hand Fern feels that he's the one that needs to save the company (not Lety) and that makes her come across as stronger. Is it because Lety feels more comfortable in a supporting role? Thoughts? It's just something that I've noticed in the past few caps...

Georgia Peach, I think you're right that Lety feels more comfortable in a supporting role. She really didn't want to become Conceptos' president but her father insisted in order to repay the debt. There's such an obvious difference in how Lety is with Aldo and how she is with Fernando. With Aldo, she's indecisive and even childish. With Fernando, she's decisive and strong. It is as if Fernando gives her the strength and encouragement to be strong whereas Aldo just wants her to cling to him. That's why I don't think Aldo is going to take the Aurora bit too well but Fernando will be able to handle it. Aurora is the strong, although sometimes mean, part of Lety that she only shows around Fernando.

Sorry to disagree with some of you, but I think Aldo is overly possessive. It's the reason why he rushed into a relationship with Lety after she broke up with Fernando. He wants what he wants and will do whatever he can to get what he wants. Typical male, if you ask me!!!!

TOtally agree on Lety being more comfortable in a supporting role... but it also has to do with Fernando accepting that support and returning the favor by protecting her and accepting her the way she is...
Aldo on the other hand would never say he needs Lety's support. he would always wear the super hero mask and have the cocky attitude that Lety needs him in order to be successful... basically brainwashing Lety into thinking she NEEDS Aldo as a basic lifeline in order to move forward.

the gun logo changed from '007' to 'F.E.O.' is also hysterical and it is posted all over that Conceptos studio now...
I totally agree on the clues being thrown yesterday (Luigi saying Lety told him she is Aurora and Lety telling Fernando that she was about to change into 'la mujer misteriosa'... but noone gets it because noone sees Lety as even remotely able to be Aurora... esp Omar, who is the most clueless of all.

love the analogy 'Fernando wanting to recover Conceptos as wanting to recover Lety'.. thus when he gets half of Conceptos back, he is a happy camper, because he is that much closer in his recovering Lety goal... and Lety helping him with the script = Lety helps him getting her back... love it!

Fernando said he acted as the wodden soldier (soldadito de plomo) when he was in elementary school... Does anyone know if Jaime ever played either the tin man or a nutcracker in early age? that might also be a reference to real life.

Marta, The Lead Soldier (lead, the metal) is a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. I've never heard of Camil playing the part as a child. But I do know that he's wanted to be a performer all his life. In one interview he said that as a kid, he used (something?) as a microphone and pretended he was singing in front of an audience like Michael Jackson.

I think everyone missed Luigi's big mouth and Fern tossed off Lety's remark as a joke because the context is wrong for them. As human beings we tend to compartmentalize things and people. To everyone at Conceptos Lety is an unattractive badly dressed woman, who wears no make up and who lives in the barrio and works with them. When they see Aurora swanning around in her drag queen style with big hair, make up, furs and jewelry there is no way that they can put the two together. I'm sure when the truth comes out they will be shocked, as shocked as Lety was when she first looked at herself in a mirror.
