Episode 90 #1
At the Denizer office
Mert is working on something at a table while Demet is hanging out, waiting.
Mert is mumbling to himself, and Demet reaches over to show him what he’s looking for, I think. He’s only been on the job a short time, IIRC.
Mert: We’ll look at that archive now.
Demet is grinning from ear to ear, ripe for the picking! Mert continues to work on something, and she just stands there, transfixed, waiting.
Demet: I’m in love with the CD that you gave me.
Mert: Great. That means you are addicted to rock. That speaks well for you, and you have good taste.
Demet: Every time you recommend something, it enchants me. Don’t you think that’s odd?
She draws up a chair close to him.
Demet: I thought you would take me to Beyoglu where there is live music. Did you forget, by the way?
Mert: Get permission from your parents and we’ll go where you want.
Demet: And if I tell them I’m working late these days?
Mert: That wouldn’t be right. They would find out sooner or later. And, I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to feel ashamed in front of Elif.
Demet: OK, I’ll get the permission but you go ahead and get the tickets, OK?
Mert: Deal.
Nilufer shows up and can see this interchange.
Nilufer: I’m not interrupting anything, right?
Mert: No, we were just working and talking. We reached a pause.
Nilufer grins at Mert. [Lucky Mert to have two women so attractive and attracted!]
Mert, acting all professional: We should continue working on this and take some steps. I’ll be back.
Demet: That’s fine.
Mert follows Nilufer out of the office.
Omer is sitting on a bench outside the Denizer home (it might be the office, but apparently it was the mansion.) thinking hard.
Elif is in her study looking through some papers. She sees him from her window.
Omer is remembering Nedret telling him that his brother wants Nedret to do something underhanded to separate Elif and him because “you aren’t destined to be together.”
Elif approaches Omer on the bench. She asks him why he is sitting there.
Elif: Are you worried about something? Is anything going on?
Omer: Nothing happened. I just wanted to rest a bit, and I was going to leave soon.
Elif: You are worried about me but I’m strong. You don’t have to treat me as if I were breakable. (She takes his hand.) I’ve already been through a lot and I will overcome this only if you are with me.
Omer: Elif, I have to tell you something. Look, it’s nothing that worries me, but we made an agreement that everything would be genuine and nothing would be able to separate us, not even ourselves, not ever!
Elif: Don’t scare me.
Omer kisses her hands: Look my love, no one can choose their family. No matter how hard you swim against the current, you can’t change the past. There are some things that determine your personality including the loved ones that can cause us hurt.

Episode 90 #2
Elif: I understand, captain. I know what’s wrong. You don’t want to marry me, so I can take charge of ending this. Do you want the official statement? I’m not yet ready for marriage. You deserve something better than this.
He hugs her.
Omer: I won’t let you go. I won’t do it. Elif, your name is marked on my forehead and in my heart and no one can remove it.
Elif: Then, what’s bothering you? Tell me.
Omer’s phone rings at this inopportune time. It’s Arda.
Elif: Saved by the bell.
Omer: Yes.
Arda: Omer, come to the police station right now. Hurry up. It’s good news, but I can’t tell you over the phone.
Omer: OK, I’m on my way.
Elif: What’s up?
Omer: I have to go now. It’s an emergency.
Elif: What? More bad news?
Omer: I think we have a clue or something.
Elif: Call me when you know, OK?
He kisses her cheek and then leaves.
Elif, sighs: Omer.
We see Nedret spying on them from the balcony.
Omer goes back and they kiss again.
Omer: The last thing I want to do right now is leave, but I have to go to work, Signorina.
Elif: That’s fine. I can understand that but something important is missing. It’s what you were going to tell me before. You have to tell me. We will look for a good time to talk about this.
Omer: Of course, yes, of course.
They both look at each other lovingly. Omer has a furrowed brow. Elif: Because if you don’t talk about what’s in mind, the relationship will end up hurting. I’ve experienced that before.
She strokes his cheek and kisses him.
He leaves. Nedret shakes her head watching all this.
Nilufer and Mert are walking together. Nilufer tells Mert that he said he knew something about Fatih and she wants to know it. He agrees but tells her she won’t like it.
Nilufer: What happened?
Mert: Omer called me the day that Bahar was killed. He wanted a sample of my hair.
Nilufer: And…?
Mert: They thought there was a possibility that Bahar was violated. Because I’m Fatih’s brother, they wanted to see if he might have been the attacker through DNA.
Nilufer: That’s OK. He told me about it but said that nothing had happened.
Mert: that’s right. She wasn’t violated but had consensual relations.
Nilufer: Then it’s not our business. Both of us know that Bahar had a boyfriend for some time.
Mert: Nilufer, they wanted a sample of my hair because Fatih and I are brothers. Is it possible you don’t understand? Before she was killed, Bahar willingly slept with Fatih.
Nilufer: Don’t be ridiculous, Mert. That is the solution that you found to make me leave Fatih. Was it your idea or that of Elif?
Mert: Elif knows nothing about this. Because I was involved in the case, the police informed me confidentially. If you don’t believe me call Omer and ask him. Your beloved Fatih cheated on you. Get that straight, Nilufer. And it was with Bahar. Understand?
Nilufer starts to cry.

Episode 90 #3
Elif is inside, climbing the stairs; Nedret is also there.
Nedret: Dear Elif. When did you go out? I didn’t see you leave.
Elif: I saw Omer sitting from my window and went to talk to him, but Arda called him and he ran to the station.
Nedret clarifies it was Arda, the tall one, who is hanging out with a lovely girl. Elif says it is Pelin. Nedret says she is getting so old that she can’t keep track of everyone’s name.
Nedret: I have a question. A young lady came by the house about Bahar’s case. She came early. Blue eyes and very pretty. Who is it? What is her name?
Elif: That’s Ipek. I don’t know her, but I think she is a friend of Omer from the police academy or something like that.
Nedret: Hmmm. I thought it was a friend of yours.
Elif: No, aunt, she isn’t my friend. I don’t know her, but she seems very nice.
Nedret says they should go inside because it’s too cold outside.
Omer arrives at the police station. He sees Husseyn leaving just as he reaches the door.
Husseyn: It’s about time you showed up. Since I didn’t see you at six this morning, I was ready to report you as missing. Where have you been?
Omer: Brother, on the night of engagement did you tell Ms. Nedret that you would work with her to separate me from Elif?
Husseyn: Where did you get that idea?
Omer: Answer my question. Did you tell her or not?
Husseyn just stares and doesn’t answer.
They are being watched from inside by Ipek, Arda, and Pelin.
Ipek: I think they are arguing.
Arda: They are always arguing. Had you forgotten?
Pelin: But what might be the problem? Maybe we should go see.
Ipek: Perhaps Omer is also having suspicions about his brother.
Arda: Omer? (He laughs.) I don’t think so. Don’t you know Omer? Husseyn is his second father, his idol. He would suspect us before his brother. He would never suspect him.
Ipek: But Omer is not stupid. If he finds a clue, he will follow it and solve the case. If it were you, I would tell Omer what I was thinking. That is what real friends do.
Pelin: Alright, let’s go. We have lots to do. Let’s leave them alone.
Ipek and Pelin leave, while Arda is very lost in thought.
Outside, Omer and Husseyn are still together.
Husseyn: Did Ms. Nedret tell you this? Anyone can complain about me, but when it has to do with your 30,000, I’m always guilty, right?
Omer: Enough, brother. Answer my question, did you do it or not?
Husseyn: Don’t you realize it’s your brother, Husseyn Demir, that you are talking to? I’m the oldest, the only support that you have in life. Do you think that I lied to you before?
Omer: I’m trying to understand this, brother, I’m trying to understand if you lied to me or not.
Husseyn: I never lied to you intentionally nor am I lying to you now. Yes, that is what I said (to Nedret).
Omer: How could you do something like that, brother? How could you? You told me that this (the relationship with Elif) was good and that I had been reborn.
Husseyn: Brother, listen, why are you acting like this? Look, I did say that. Why are you being so hard on me? I wasn’t speaking seriously. It was a joke. Look, I didn’t like her behavior that night, understand me? When we went there, she wanted us to buy gold things and then she acted like we were poor people and put us to the test. I saw this, I could tell that she didn’t like us and that she was faking when she acted like a woman with a big heart. I wanted to get her to confess. So, I wanted to fool her so that I could tell if she was faking and I wanted her to know that I knew that’s what she was doing.

Episode 90 #4
Omer: You can’t play games when it is my life, brother. I won’t let you do something like this. I won’t do it. That girl has met all my metrics and will be the mother of my children, brother. How could you speak like this about Elif and me behind my back? Don’t do it again. If you have a problem with Elif or with me you need to tell me to my face. Am I clear, brother?
Omer starts to leave, and Husseyn grabs his arm: Omer! Why are you angry with me? You should be angry with Nedret instead of me. I told you I only did this to get information.
Omer slaps his hand away. They are still staring hard at one another.
Omer: I’ll see you tonight at home.
Omer walks off, and Husseyn watches him. He shakes his head and finally walks off.
Omer arrives in the station office.
Omer: Good morning.
Arda: Are you OK, Omer?
Omer says he is OK.
Ipek: It looks like someone arrived with a problem or am I wrong?
Omer doesn’t answer but asks: And, what’s new?
Pelin: You need to see what Arda found. It’s on the computer. Ipek is sitting in front of a computer, and gets up, saying they can listen to it there. She and Omer do a little dance because they are trying to stay out of each other’s way but keep moving the wrong way and come face to face. Awkward!
(It’s a recording that was hard for me to translate, but I think it was “Racin, it’s Fatih. I need a place to stay. What kind of house do you have? I’m trapped here. I need you to return.”
Racim: Of course, sir.
Omer asks when it was recorded. Arda tells him to guess. Omer guesses correctly it was the day that Bahar was killed. The house of Racin.
We get to see someone (Racin) cleaning up at that very house. Can shows up just then.
Racin: What are you doing here, kid?
Can: I need to make a bet. I came before, but you weren’t here.
Racin: I left five minutes and was going to ask for my passport. Can’t you tell I’m out of here?
Go somewhere else. Can saunters into the house. Where do you think you’re going? Get out of here. What are you doing? I have things to do. I don’t have time for you.
At the mansion, Husseyn demands to see Nedret right away.
Nedret comes out to the foyer and asks why he is yelling. Then she recognizes him: Husseyn, why are you yelling?
Husseyn: How dare you give me away to Omer! Have you lost your head?
Nedret: Calm down right now. Elif will hear you.
Husseyn looks up toward Elif’s room.
Husseyn: She should hear me.
Nedret ushers him outdoors.
He is still yelling that Elif should hear him out: have her come out here and I’ll tell her myself.
Nedret: Mr. Husseyn, please calm yourself now. We should leave here in order to speak more easily. Is that OK?
Husseyn nods yet. Nedret opens the door and asks someone to bring her overcoat and handbag. Then she tells Husseyn: Let’s go.
They walk out together.

Episode 90 #5
In the park, Nilufer is still very affected by what Mert has told her. She paces back and forth.
Mert: Nilufer, do you feel better?
Nilufer: No, Mert. I’m not going to feel better until I look him (Fatih) in the eyes. I need to be sure.
Mart stands: Good. Then let’s go.
Nilufer: Where?
Mert: Where we’ll find that depressed person.
In the Denizer mansion
Asli is on the phone with someone: I agree. Many thanks.
Elif enters the room: Asli, do you know where Aunt Nedret is?
Asli: No, and have you seen Can? He didn’t go to school today and they just called me to let me know.
Elif: But, I saw him this morning. He was leaving for school.
Asli: Allah Allah, where is Aunt Nedret? She would give me some of her good advice.
Elif: Isn’t she in the house?
Asli: Don’t you know? Mr. Husseyn came and they argued. I heard them yelling and later they left.
Elif: They argued?
Elif is perplexed by this news.
At a restaurant by the water
Husseyn and Nedret are talking.
Husseyn: Omer is everything for me. We had many problems up to now, but I never felt this resentment toward me. This is all your fault. All.
Nedret sniffs: I don’t accept your words. Absolutely none. Once someone says something, one can’t predict the outcome. You should have thought about it before.
Husseyn: Listen…
Nedret interrupts: But you had lots of reasons.
Husseyn: What? You are confusing me, Ma’am, what are you referring to?
Nedret: Since they put the rings on I’m thinking in this, Mr. Husseyn. You are right. Omer and Elif can’t be together. And after that, all this business with the ex-girlfriend. This is impossible. After all, my niece will cry because of everything Omer means to her life. For that reason, I accept your offer, Mr. Husseyn, if it’s still valid.
Nedret reaches out her hand to seal the deal.
Nedret: We can stop this marriage.
We don’t see Husseyn shake on it.
We see Omer, Pelin, Arda and Ipek sneaking up on a doorway of a red building with white burglar bars and trim.
Omer: Police! Open the door!
Inside, Can asks Racin what to do. We see Racin tell him to be quiet.
Omer enters, gun drawn. He tells Racin to get down, face down with hands behind his back. They see someone is trying to get away. Omer goes to catch him: Stop there!
Can has his hands up: Sir, I didn’t do anything.
Omer recognizes him and calls him by name.

Episode 90 #6
Back to the new team of Husseyn and Nedret at the restaurant. It looks like they will be eating there.
Husseyn: I didn’t think you would be so calculating, Ms. Nedret.
Nedret lifts her tea and laughs heartily: I think well before I take a step, Mr. Husseyn. Imagine, if our deal is discovered, I’ll be innocent, but you’ll be guilty. I told Omer the things that you told me and he believed everything. What would he think of you? What I do is something innocent, but you will be the one to unlock everything. You need me. (She sits back and laughs again.)
Husseyn has a frowny face: It looks like you have everything under control. It’s like you’re a demon.
Nedret: Me, a demon! (She chuckles.) Just look in the mirror, Mr. Husseyn. I’m the demon, or are you? Don’t make such a long face. I have an excellent plan.
Husseyn: What is it?
Nedret: I just interrogated Elif. She knows nothing about the relationship of Ipek and Omer.
Husseyn: That’s what I already told you. My brother is afraid of Elif. I understand this part. Now tell me, what is the plan?
Nedret smiles.
Back at the scene of the crime, the red house with white trim.
Police are looking for finger prints, etc., checking all over.
Omer throws Racin on the sofa: Now, tell me, did you hide Fatih here? Did he have a girl with him?
Racin: No, captain. I haven’t seen Mr. Fatih since they arrested me in Edirne.
Omer grabs him and shakes him, and Arda tells Omer to calm down.
Omer: We have talked by telephone. He was here. I asked you if he was with a girl or not.
Racin looks worried.
Back at the deal-making lunch
Husseyn: Why don’t we avoid getting stuck with details. Just tell me everything. The ex-girlfriend of Omer works under his nose. What are you expecting?
Nedret, laughing: Come on, that doesn’t make sense. Do you think Elif would change her opinion only for that? Then Omer will go talk to her and he would defend himself rapidly, he didn’t have time, was waiting for the right time to tell her, and in the end, Elif will believe him because they have a strong bond that keeps them united, Husseyn. Do you think that just for that, she would break up with Omer?
Husseyn: So, what are we left with? Put pills in their drinks and then later take a compromising picture of them sleeping, or what?
Nedret: Mr. Husseyn, if you’re going to work with me seriously, drop your moralizing comments. I don’t like them at all.
Husseyn: OK, don’t get angry. I apologize. Tell me your plan.
Nedret: Tonight invite Ipek to dinner like a welcome colleague to our family. If Ms. Elvan likes the girl, as she said before, then everything will be good. Everyone will be content.
They stare at one another for a while. Husseyn leans in.
Back at the red house with white trim
Omer is still threatening Racin: I’m sure you know. Tell me right now, no matter the cost.
Arda is watching this while Ipek is carefully looking for clues.
Racin: I didn’t see any girl, captain.
Meanwhile, Ipek has found something, maybe Bahar’s hairs stuck in the doorway. She announces this to the group: I found something.
She looks close with a magnifying glass. It’s a good sample of hair from a woman. She and Pelin bag the sample.
Babachita
Episode 90 #7
Omer tells the tech to take it directly to CSI and he wants DNA. The tech sets off to do this.
Ipek: It looks like someone has to congratulate me. I’m sure it’s Bahar’s hair.
Meanwhile, Can is still sitting there. Pelin and Arda tell Omer he can take his little friend to the house, and they will finish arranging this place and will take Racin to the station.
Omer tells Can to stand up: Let’s go.
Omer and Can leave.
Ipek is watching Racin carefully. [She has really good instincts and seems to stand out even in this team of outstanding cops.]
Outside the restaurant, Husseyn gets into his car. He hears his police radio announce that Racin has been captured. Husseyn hits his steering wheel in frustration at the news.
Back at the Denizer mansion
Elif talks with Omer by phone, asking how long before he will be home. He asks what has happened. She says nothing, but that they had agreed that he would call her.
Elif: Did you forget me?
Omer: Elif, love, how could I forget you? (Omer looks over at Elif’s nephew, Can, in the passenger seat.) I’m just busy right now and can’t talk.
Elif: OK.
Omer: Are you busy? I thought I might stop by your house. There is a problem.
Elif: I’m at home. Do you know anything about Bahar?
Omer: It’s best if we talk when I get there.
Elif: OK, I’ll be waiting.
Omer agrees and hangs up. Then he addresses Can.
Omer: It’s very boring listening to advice, I know. I never like that.
Can: Then, why don’t you not bother?
Omer: Hmm. What I will tell you isn’t advice that friends would give, but I do think you should consider carefully. Look, people like Racin always use young people like you. Like you were his personal puppy. Today, it was betting business, but I’m sure that he didn’t even add your bets.
Can: I’m not so stupid. I always ask that he show me every coupon.
Omer: Really? Hmmm, that’s even worse. That means that you did something illegal, my friend. So, that means you’ll have to go to jail. You’ll be there at least a week. You’ll learn the actual reality there.
Omer looks over at Can.
Omer: Look at me. Don’t get involved with that guy ever again. Is it a deal?
Can: Now you’re trying to tell me how to live my life? Great. I should be grateful, but no one can tell me what to do, not even my parents. You neither.
Omer: If I were you, I wouldn’t bite off more than I could chew, youngster.
Can: Is that right? You aren’t in a position to warn me.
Can still looks very sullen.
We find Nilufer and Mert parked on a street. Mert is on the phone.
Mert: It isn’t a threat, Sir Hakan (The name is a guess on my part). I want to visit my brother and Syrah. She is a young girl; my brother already knows her and would be happy to see her. Great, thank you. Nobody should know this, not Tayyar or anyone else. Understood, thank you.
He hangs up. Nilufer asks if there will be any problem. Mert says, no, not to worry. Mr. Hasan Is the landlord of the farm. To enter, Tayyar’s guards won’t see you. You can talk to him all that you want.
Nilufer agrees and thanks Mert.
Mert: My father always brings his women here. Once I was worried about my mother. I hid in his car and I came all the way to this farm. I saw him enjoying with women from outside. Mr. Hakan hid me in the house. Weird, right? Now I’m bringing you here. Everything is so weird. That’s it. I’m out of here.

Episode 90 #8
Nilufer: You’re leaving?
Mart: I need to return to work.
Nilufer: We’re in the middle of a mountain and you are going to work?
Mert tells her not to worry, that this isn’t the first time. He gets out of the car.
Nilufer stays in the car.
We see Fatih throwing a knife as if it were a dart at a clock.
Mr Hakan (perhaps) comes up: Mr. Fatih? Are you busy?
Fatih: Tell me.
Hakan: Mr. Fatih, Ms. Nilufer is here.
Fatih: Don’t make her wait.
Hakan: She’s coming in, Sir.
Fatih tries to compose himself. Nilufer walks in.
Fatih runs to her: How did you find me, beautiful?
Nilufer slaps him.
They both look impactado.
Elif answers the front door of the Denizer mansion. Omer and Can are there. Elif is surprised: Can? (To Omer) Is he in some trouble?
They both look at Can, who slips past and enters the mansion.
Elif tells Omer to come in. Omer tells her: No, better that I don’t enter.
She tells him to wait and gets a coat.
Elif: What happened?
Omer: Well, let’s say that Can was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’ll tell you later, but for now, let’s not talk about it, OK?
Elif: So, Captain, this is the only explanation you have?
Omer: For now, yes.
Elif: Hmm, every time you hide something I can tell. This is the second time in the same day. Tell me what is happening.
Omer: I thought you like to be the detective.
Elif: A little. In fact, when I lived in Italy, I took classes in boxing.
Omer: Ahh, I thought your muscles (he indicates her arms) were from lifting bundles, but it was actually the boxing.
Elif: To be very clear, it was a sport. It’s odd that you don’t know the difference.
Omer: Watch what you say. What if I kiss you right here and won’t let you go? What would you do?
Elif: I also wouldn’t let you go.
They are grinning at one another. Omer: I never tire of you. Every moment that keeps me away makes me miss you more. What can I do? I don’t want to be away from you ever.
Elif: Then, don’t go. Stay always.
Omer: It’s impossible. I can’t.
Elif: Why? Is there another secret? Does it have to do with the mystery of the day?
Omer: Uhh, it’s not a secret. Look, your aunt is approaching.
Omer backs away. Elif says they are acting like teenagers. Omer says: Exactly.
Nedret: Hello, dear Omer.
Omer: Hello, Ma’am.
Elif: Aunt. What is all that? (Nedret carries lots of bags and packages.)
Nedret: I just bought some things, dear.
Elif goes to get Filiz to help.
Nedret: We’ll see you soon.
Omer agrees and leaves. Nedret calls Filiz again.

Episode 90 #9
Filiz runs into the foyer: Ah, you bought many things in the bazaar.
Filiz: Ms. Asli told Ms. Elif that Mr. Husseyn had come and that he had an argument with you.
I thought you should know.
Nedret sighs: Good. Come child, take these things inside please.
Omer and Elif are still in the garden.
Elif: You are watching but your eyes stay here. They won’t go with you.
Omer: Elif, you know that I can’t live without your eyes.
Elif: Wow, you know something about that poetry? [Didn’t get the name of the poet]
Omer: Of course, Signorina. Maybe I can be grosero sometimes, but I’m not a caveman. I know about poetry.
Elif: But, you never show me anything that suggests that you are a romantic. I’m surprised.
Omer: So, here we are.
Elif: I haven’t received any flowers, no surprise, you have never taken me to anywhere. You wait for me to do that. And it’s true that the one who confesses their love first is the one who loses.
Omer: You are being very unjust, Signorina. I came to your house early in the morning with [something I didn’t understand] in the hand. Don’t you recall that?
Elif: That happened a long time ago.
Omer: So this is a challenge and very expensive.
Elif: I challenge.
Finally, they kiss! [Ahhhhh!]
Omer: Was that enough of a punishment?
Elif: Well, I think so.
Omer: So, I’ll continue punishing you later. Go inside. I’ll be back to wait, beautiful. Elif grins and goes inside.
Omer skips happily down the outside steps.
Inside the mansion, Elif enters the living room where Nedret is sitting.
Nedret: Did Omer leave?
Elif tells her that he did.
Nedret is all excited about what she bought today, including almond pasta, herbs, etc. She says she will get Filiz to bring them for her to see. Elif asks what she did all day. Nedret says she went for a walk. She realized she missed all the bazaars in the city, so she went shopping.
Elif: I know you went out with Husseyn and that you argued. Why?
Nedret: Ah, yes, he stopped by. All he wanted to do was complain, and to be honest, I’m not going to worry about that.
Elif: And what did you talk about?
Nedret: He talked about his wife. You know she doesn’t get along with Asli. So, he complained about what happened with her. He’s a policeman, after all, and Ms. Elvan was offended. I told Asli 50 times, call them and apologize to them, but she didn’t pay attention to me.
Elif: Melike came by my office the other day and was offended. It is important that we fix things. This is the family of Omer and the truth is Asli was wrong.
Nedret: Yes, hija, but we are talking about Asli here. If we tell her not to do something, she will do it for sure. Elif, here’s what I’ve been thinking. Ms. Elvan has been to our house many times and they supported us well with the death of Bahar and her funeral. And I don’t think we have even visited them. Could we make them a visit? We could break the ice. [And, IIRC, Husseyn will be bringing the surprise: Ipek!]
Elif: That sounds very good.

Episode 90 #10
Nedret: That’s great. Let’s take flowers, we can make a cake, and then we can dine later. What do you think?
Elif: OK, Aunt, we will do that.
Nedret: My dear, my lovely girl, my little one with the beautiful eyes, my treasure.
At the farmhouse, Nilufer is yelling at Fatih and hitting him.
Nilufer: You killed Bahar! You killed me.
Fatih: I didn’t kill anyone.
Nilufer: You killed me when you touched her. Please deny it, tell me it’s a lie, or tell me something, tell me you never touched her.
Fatih looks down.
Nilufer: How could you do this to me? How could you kiss her? You betrayed me. I hate you for doing this to me.
Fatih: It meant nothing to me, and it wasn’t anything important. I’m an animal, I don’t know.
Nilufer slaps him: So, are you accepting that you’re an animal?
Fatih: Yes, I’m an animal. I’ve never disguised my way of being. This is what I am, Nilufer.
Nilufer: Is this your feeling of love? Do you think the significance of real love is to try the patience of the other? You kidnapped her. When you called me, you told me lies about my sister. I didn’t stop loving you. Even with those awful videos, I still didn’t stop loving you. Then you hit me and I felt repressed by you, I still didn’t stop loving you. But this is different. You touched someone else, and you did it the day after I let you love me. I can’t tolerate this. I can’t live with this, my love is not strong enough, Fatih.
Fatih is listening intently to this with a very sad expression.
Nilufer takes her bag and walks out. Fatih just stands there until she reaches the door. Then he runs after her. He takes her hand, holds her and asks her to wait.
Nilufer: Let me leave.
Fatih: No, I won’t do it.
Nilufer: There’s nothing more to say, Fatih. Everything is finished because of you.
Fatih: Nothing is finished yet. You know that I’m an abandoned child from the street. I’ve had goodbyes that mean more than reunions. You are the first person that renounced herself and your family for me. That’s why I love you, Nilufer. Woman, I want to venerate you, but I don’t know how to do it, Nilufer. You could teach me. I don’t want to hurt you again. I don’t want that because of me you go back to losing one tear.
Nilufer: But, the others were right, Fatih. This I will never be able to forgive.
She walks away. Fatih tells her not to go. He watches sadly as she keeps walking.
End of Episode 90
Babachita
Great recap as usual, Babachita! As many times as I’ve seen this, there are always details I forget.
Mert is a likeable guy. Is Demet jailbait?
I’m always impressed at the skills our protagonist police officers possess. They are all very good at what they do.
The poet they referred to is Cemal Süreya.
I think this is the poem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Rn2QFA3Ay0 You can turn on English captions.
Omer said, remember when I came to your door in the early morning hours with violets?
Ha, imagine if Elif and Omer’s first kiss was like Alya and Cihan’s?
Dondi, I haven't read the recap yet, but I recall an episode where Demet says she is 21, or maybe 20. At any rate, not jailbait. I'm ahead on the episodes so it may not have been mentioned yet, but that doesn't seem like a spoiler.
Thank you, Dondi. Violets! That sounds familiar! Their interaction was entertaining here. But Omer does do thoughtful things, too. I recall a restaurant by the water that he carefully planned for a special meal. It was white with blue, the restaurant, not the meal! :) (I’m pretty sure it was this dizi, but I may have mixed it up with another!) Elif is the one with the flair for creative touches. She is the artist after all. Omer is a gifted, persistent solver of challenging cases. Their strengths work well together. I love how the series uses poetry and other touches (the calligraphy dervish art) to embellish the great story!
Thank you for the Cemal Sureya link! I need to devote more time to Turkish! It will take an intense focus if I am to ever actually learn it! So much I want to do. So little time! Right now I feel the need to work on my Spanish because I’m so slow without my English dub/ccs!
The chemistry with Elif and Omer is so warm. Alya and Cihan seems to match their arid location. I really like both couples, but Omer-Elif is definitely warmer. Maybe the Italian influence!
Thanks again!
Babachita
Hi Kat, thanks for the info. Nothing is a spoiler for me so don't worry. I've seen this dizi several times over.
Demet isn't in college yet so I couldn't remember exactly how old she's supposed to be. If she's at least 18 that's not too bad but Mert is a college guy in his twenties. What will Huseyin think, right?
After reading Kat’s comment, I hope the restaurant I mentioned wasn’t from later in the story!!! I have seen most of this many years ago, and might have mixed up the timeline!
Blue and white restaurants aren’t unusual. Brings Fatmagul to mind!!!
Babachita
I like Demet and Mert. Glad they are old enough! Husseyn’s reaction? Hmmmm. Probably not good!

#91 part 1
Omer is working at the evidence board. Not sure about the post-it he put on Fatih’s photo. I think it says “Tayyar Dundar’s son.” Huseyin comes in and complains that no one is giving him the latest info. Omer says it was on the radio. Didn’t you hear it? I was upset with my brother, Huso answers, I went out to clear my head. Omer tells him he wants to question Rasim if he’s back from his medical check. Huso says that Rasim isn’t back yet. He adds, I wish you would tell me what’s going on.
Omer explains, we thought we could get help from Rasim and asked for his phone records. The man was already being monitored for another crime. We listened to the records and raided the house. We caught the man brought him here. Fatih had been hiding there. Then, while we were investigating, we found hair. Probably Bahar’s. We are waiting for the results, and it’s likely the crime scene will be revealed. That’s all. Omer leaves the room. Huso calls out, I’ll come upstairs. He looks at the board and panics.
Huso is looking woozy as he makes his way to Ali’s office. Once again, he bursts in and Ali scolds him on his manners. Huso asks, who do we have as a coroner now? They found a hair. If this goes down, we are lost. Hurry up!
Huso quickly leaves the office and spots Arda across the way. He scowls, rushes over and accuses Arda, this is all under your control. I see what’s going on. Arda answers, what am I doing? You hid the hair thing, Huso replies. Why would I do something like that, Arda says. You tell me, Huso warns. What you think could hurt a lot of people.
Elif gets ready to the tune of “Bırak Sende Kaybolayım”. An “edible arrangement” with a balloon arrives for her. The card reads: “Could this be called a romance? Come on then, Signorina. Let's see if you're ready for the whirlwind of love.” Hulya tells her there is more.
Two coffee mugs, one for Elif one for Omer. The card reads: I want to drink the first coffee of the day and the last chamomile tea of the night with you, signorina. I’ll come home and I'll kiss your hands, be prepared.
A big box comes in. It’s a large pillow with Omer’s picture looking over to a blank space on the other side. The card reads: until the wedding, I thought of my photo as a remedy for nights without me. You’ll sleep hugging it. Elif hugs the pillow.
She opens a small box. It has tickets. The card for reads: these are the New Year’s dreams I built with you for 2015. Next week we’re going to the movies, the week after that to a concert. I left the trip to Rome to you. After all it’s your second home. Elif is thrilled.
Asli enters Elif’s room. Signorina? I think someone wants you to follow these arrows. Elif follows out of the room, down the stairs and to the front door. She looks out, nothing. She opens the door. Surprise! Omer pops up and presents Elif with a bouquet of flowers. They hug. She says, I love you
So, am I forgiven, Omer asks, did I pass the romance test? Well, you spoiled me so much today, she replies, that’s worth a while. He says he will surprise her when she least expects it. What else can I do? I like being spoiled, she replies. And I like you smiling like this, he answers, that’s all I need.
Elif tells him, today for the first time, I feel like I can leave the house. It’s strange, people learn to live despite their losses. That’s right, Omer says, life is spent learning to live. Thanks so much for the gifts, she says, I loved them all, especially the pillow. I’ll always sleep with it.
#91 part 2
Omer tells her he has to go. They are waiting for the coroner’s report. Elif tells him her family is coming to his house tonight. He’s happy about that. A quick kiss and he’s out the door. She calls out, hey Romeo, don’t give yourself over to that macho komiser inside you, you’re much more handsome like this. Omer points to himself—handsome? Huh? Macho? Elif puts her hand up—okay, I’ll be quiet. And then she blows a kiss.
The ladies are knitting in the living room when Huseyin arrives home. He excitedly tells Elvan to get ready—we are bringing guests for dinner tonight. Elvan perks up—is Elif coming? No, Huso replies, the ex-bride, Ipek. Shock. Ipek? Ah, mashallah, Fatma comments, you have so many brides, it’s endless! Huso quips, don’t take it too seriously, Fatma Hanım. She’s working with us now, that’s why I invited her. She got married and divorced. She was never a real DIL.
Fatma scoffs, obviously not. Let me tell you, she opened the book of ex-lovers and chose Omer to come win him back. Elvan says, I’m sorry she got divorced, but Ipek isn’t that kind of girl. She has a good heart. She’s not here for Omer. Well said, Huso agrees. We’re not vindictive people. I invited her so she would understand we don’t hold grudges. No resentments. Elvan says Huso did well. Elvan and Melike get up to start cooking. Fatma shakes her head and sighs.
Huseyin goes to a storage room and finds some old photos. He stuffs one into his pocket.
Arda has the DNA results, the hair is Bahar’s. We’ve got the crime scene! Arda says he immediately sent the crime unit to the scene. They are examining everywhere, inside and outside. Omer says to check the cameras. Arda tells him there are no cameras around there to check. We need a witness. Omer wants to interrogate Rasim. Omer lets Arda tell the girls (Pelo and Ipek).
Huseyin slips the photo into an album. It’s Ipek and Omer’s engagement! He gets a call from Ali. We couldn’t handle the DNA work. Our guy is on leave. Arda hasn’t taken his eyes off the results. The hair belongs to Bahar. Huso is steamed. We have to close this case before Omer finds out what we’re doing. Ali warns, stay on top of this, if it gets to Tayyar, he’ll send us to hell.
Fatih tells Tayyar about Nilufer’s visit and that Mert helped her. He’s packing a bag. Fatih wants to make Mert pay for this. Tayyar orders him not to touch Mert. Are you sure it’s him? Yes, Fatih answers, Reyi (landlord) told me. Mert called him. He told Nilu about Bahar and she’s very angry. Tayyar is ticked. Nilufer might be revealing the location. Let’s hurry. Look at the situation you’re in because of a woman.
Fatih asks if the new place is safe. Do you have any doubt, Tayyar cautions, look, if you find yourself searching for love, if you go out in the streets chasing after it, you’ll get hurt again. You should have foreseen this. I warned you countless times to stay away from that girl.
I fell in love, Fatih explains, do you understand? He answers his own question—how would you understand? There’s no room for weakness in my life, child, Tayyar snaps, and there won’t be for you either! If there is, you’ve seen what will happen. And don’t touch your brother! Have any other requests, Fatih snarks. If you push me too much, it will backfire, you know.
You know me too, Tayyar replies. Now let’s get on with our work. The men will take you. Don’t call anyone and don’t go out. I’ll solve this. You’ll be cleared of the murder in less than a week. You’ll be free. I hope so, Fatih says, or you’ll meet the real Fatih if I end up in prison. Tayyar looks concerned.
#91 part 3
Omer is ready to interrogate Rasim. Arda and Ipek show up and are ready to join him. Omer tells Arda to tell Ipek that he’s going in only with him. [what is this 5th grade?] Ipek speaks up, I’m a detective in the homicide division and I’m working this case. I don’t take orders from you. Omer won’t even look at her. I only take orders from my boss, she continues, and I’m telling him all of this. At least Omer looked at her. Ipek heads to the interrogation room. Omer is ticked and he complains. Arda says that Omer doesn’t understand. Omer is convinced that Ipek came here to bother him.
Mert is working late and Demet brings him a cotton candy treat to cheer him up. Surprise! He asks, where did that come from? I bought it, she replies, whenever I was unhappy as a child, my uncle would buy me this. He smiles, am I a child? You’re not a child, she says but you’re unhappy. She pulls off a piece and tries to feed him. He turns away—I’m not good with sugary things.
Demet coaxes, try it. And she stuffs it into his mouth. He rolls his eyes. He likes it. She pulls off a huge piece and tries to stuff it into his mouth. Yaaa! Mert backs away. She giggles. He grabs the candy and gets up. Now he’s going to make her eat it. She tries to hold him off while he tries to stuff it into her mouth. They both start laughing. Then it gets quiet. There’s a look between them. She picks a piece of fluff off his beard and puts it in her mouth—mmm, very sweet. And here it comes, a very sweet kiss. Uh oh, Nilufer comes looking for Mert.
Omer interrogates Rasim while Arda and Ipek observe through the glass. Omer begins, since you don’t know anything, let me start by telling you what we know. Two people were killed with the same weapon. I didn’t kill anyone, Rasim says. No? Omer replies, she wasn’t killed in your house? You’re involved, you have no escape. Tell me who killed her. Otherwise, three murders will be pinned on you. Three murders. Omer puts his hand on Rasim’s shoulder.
Rasim sweats. He admits, I only saw the girl, they came together, that’s all. Omer asks again, who killed the girl? Rasim is silent. Omer shouts—who killed the girl?! Rasim answers, I don’t know. Omer pats Rasim, then he sits across from him. Okay, I solved it, Omer says, you killed the girl, right? No, Rasim replies, I didn’t. I wasn’t home. I didn’t even know she was killed in my home. Who killed her? I didn’t see.
There’s a knock at the door. Omer says come in. A cop enters and whispers something to Omer. He tells Rasim to keep thinking and gets up and leaves the room. Omer comes to the observation room. The cop explains to the three that the order came and interrogation is stopped. If you continue without his lawyer, you’ll be in trouble.
Omer is ticked. You see, they are at it again, but I don’t care. I won’t stop until he speaks. [doesn’t Rasim have a right to a lawyer?] Arda stops Omer from returning. The cop leaves. Arda reasons with Omer. It seems the man knows nothing. Let’s wait for his lawyer to arrive. It could be worse if you pressure him. Calm down, he’s not going anywhere. Meanwhile, Ipek enters the interrogation room. Omer’s not pleased.
Ipek asks Rasim, who’s your real boss? Serhat? Fatih? Or are they collaborating? I don’t have a boss, Rasim replies, I work for whoever pays me. I haven’t seen Serhat abi since he came here with his son. He calls Ipek “yenge”. He knows she’s Serhat’s woman. Ipek leans in—what do you know about my situation? What did Serhat tell you? Rasim answers, my brother is very angry with you. He won’t let you see your son, and you won’t see him. That’s all I know. Do your friends here know about Serhat?
#91 part 4
Ipek grabs Rasim and is ready to strike him. She shouts—tell me where he is! Omer rushes in and stops her. What are you doing? Let me go, she says. He tells her to calm down. Arda tells them both to take it outside. Outside, Omer demands to know why she was talking to Rasim. Sana ne? What’s it to you, Ipek replies. What’s it to me? That man is in my charge, Omer states, it’s my interrogation.
Don’t make me angry, Ipek warns, I’ll tell them to get you out of here. You’re on sick leave now. You’re not in the homicide division, but the financial one. We are in charge of this interrogation. I’m not going to take orders from you, so you better not interfere with my work. Ipek goes back inside.
Arda tries to reason with Omer. Listen, the girl also has problems with that man. She has her reasons. Omer doesn’t want to hear it. He doesn't want to know anything about Ipek. He wants her out. Omer goes back inside. Arda sighs and follows.
Nedret and Elif are ready to go to the Demir house. Asli and Can come downstairs. Asli wants to go too. Nedret tells her it’s better to stay home and enjoy a quiet night with her son. Asli says Nedret is right, and notes she can’t stand Melike, but she likes Omer. She gets her coat and promises to behave. Nedret relents. Asli hands Can his coat. Can is sullen and does not take the coat. Asli reminds him he’s in trouble for skipping school. He takes the coat. Nedret asks, where’s Nilufer? Asli says she’s with Mert.
Omer returns to the squad room. Pelo asks, did he talk? He talked, Omer replies, he saw Bahar, but he didn’t see the killer. Maybe if we work until morning, we can find something. We’ll wait for the lawyer.
Ipek tells Arda she needs to get info from Rasim about Serhat. Arda says he will handle this. I’ll find out where he is for you. Don’t worry. They enter the squad room. Arda tells Pelo to go with Ipek, and he will stay there with Omer. Ipek speaks up, I will stay. Your friend who is on sick leave doesn’t need to keep watch. It gets tense. Pelo calmly convinces Ipek to leave with her. Omer is annoyed.
Huseyin is hanging around outside the station when Pelo and Ipek come out. He approaches them. Pelo asks, what are you doing here? If you are asking about Rasim, we’re taking a break and will continue the interrogation in the morning. We’re waiting for his lawyer. Huso says, I came to pick you up. My mother has made dinner at home.
The ladies are surprised. What dinner? Ipek says she won’t come. It wouldn’t be appropriate. Huso says that Elvan was happy when she heard Ipek was here. She said, “I wish my silk haired girl would come so I could treat her to a feast and look into her beautiful eyes.” [he’s really laying it on thick.] Won’t you come? You’ll make Elvan Anne happy. Pelo smiles at Ipek and nods. Ipek looks like she still has reservations about going.
Elvan welcomes them at the door. Huseyin and Pelo enter. Ipek hangs back. Elvan says, aren’t you going to come? She steps outside and tells Ipek, the storms have long since calmed. Everyone has found their harbor, forgotten everything, and moved on. Ipek is teary. Elvan Teyze, I never wanted to upset you, but it happened like this. Elvan replies, don’t say anything, my unfortunate girl. Just give your aunt a hug. They hug.
Huseyin checks his phone. Nedret sent a message—we are on our way. Melike happily greets Ipek.
#91 part 5
They sit and eat. [I wish I was at that table. It all looks so good.] Huso reminisces. Do you remember how the four of you [I think he’s referring to Omer, Arda, Pelo and Ipek] used to fight for the last of the stew in the pot? Melike recalls that Arda always won the fight. Huso laughs, that’s how it is, a man is capable of killing for food. Ipek compliments, Ellerine sağlik, Elvan Teyze, çok güzel olmuş. Health to your hands, Aunt Elvan, it’s very good. May everything be good, Elvan replies, may it bring blood and life.
The doorbell rings. Who could it be at this hour, Melike wonders. Huseyin tells her to answer the door. Nedret says, surprise! Melike is shocked—and what a surprise. It’s awkward.
Omer is hard at work. Arda has brought them something to eat. He asks Omer if he’s found anything. Omer says he can’t concentrate. Let me ask you something and don’t lie. Did my brother ever say anything bad about Elif to you? Arda wonders where that is coming from. Nedret Hanım, Omer replies, she gave me the shock of my life today. It was something from the engagement night. My brother said to the lady, “let’s unite to separate Elif and Omer.” Arda is surprised.
Back to the Demir house. They are all in the living room now. The Denizers are eating. Nedret comments, we already ate, but it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t taste Elvan Hanım’s Hatay dishes. Of course, Melike feels the need to comment and put her foot in her mouth. They say that Malatya food is very good, but it will never be like Hatay. Anyway, at your house, we eat nothing but foreign food, it’s like we don’t live in Türkiye. Asli can hardly contain herself.
Elif looks at Ipek and asks, how are you? Good, Ipek replies, and you? I’m trying to be good, Elif says, if it weren’t for Omer, we would have had a very hard time getting through these days. Nedret says, we haven’t had the chance to meet Ipek properly. Thank you for coming to the funeral. We haven’t had the opportunity to sit and chat. Elvan and Ipek look uncomfortable.
Huso helps the plan along. He explains, Ipek is a childhood friend of Omer’s. She, Pelin, Arda, and Omer went to the academy together. They were very close, but they caused a lot of trouble, he laughs. Thank God, they weren’t expelled. I was up there every week because of them!
Elif asks Pelin if that’s true. She never heard about any of this. It never came up, Pelo says. Huso has an idea. He tells Hasan to get Omer’s photo album. You can tell Omer’s side doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Melike pipes up, if Omer was here, he would be very angry. He would say, don’t show those pictures to my fiancée. Elvan adds, there’s no need to open old wounds. Let’s look to the future. Forget about those yellowed pictures.
Nedret asks, is that possible? If a person has no past, they have no future. Don’t you believe that? Hasan brings the album and hands it to Elif. Here is graduation. Elif says, look how small and cute he is here. We should call him “tiny.” Elif turns the page. There are the 4 devrem at the academy, in their uniforms. Elif and Asli smile.
Omer wonders, why would my brother say something like that to that lady? What’s the problem? I asked him and he said that he did it on purpose to see how she would react, but I don’t believe him. He’s hiding something. [you have no idea, Omer!] Arda just listens. Omer continues, do you know the worst part? My brother lied to me for the first time, looking me straight in the eyes. It’s so terrible that I don’t want to believe it.
Arda blurts, it’s not the first time, and only now you realize it. Omer asks, what are you talking about? Forget it, Arda replies, come eat. What do you mean, forget it, Omer says, tell me what you have to say.
#91 part 6
Melike and Pelo start to clear dishes. Ipek offers to help. Huseyin tells her to sit. She’s a guest. Next time you can wash the dishes.
Omer tries to get Arda to talk. Arda closes the door. What am I saying? Huh? Okay, I’ll tell you. What I’m saying mate, is how can you live in the same house and not realize it? I’m sure Huseyin is hiding something. I don’t know what it is, but I’m sure he has a double life. Omer is stunned. Arda continues, your brother has been very mysterious lately. Omer takes exception. What are you saying? My brother doesn’t have a double life. I’m talking about a little lie in my family, and you come up with something like this.
Arda insists that Huseyin is behaving strangely. He also lies at work. Omer gets angry. This is my brother we are talking about! Watch your words! I try, I try, but I can’t, Arda answers back, he’s my boss too. It’s not easy for me either. Omer wants to be convinced. He wants an explanation. Open your eyes, Arda says, it’s time you realized. Your brother, Huseyin Demir, is not the same kind of cop as Omer Demir. Your brother, Huseyin is a corrupt cop!
Elif comments on a pic of Pelo and Ipek. I bet they were the prettiest girls in the academy. They must have had a lot of fun. Ipek doesn’t smile but nods, those were good times. Can whispers to Asli, let’s leave. Elif and Nedret look at another photo. A training photo. More photos and Elif and Asli giggle over them.
Elif turns the page and there is Ipek and Omer’s engagement photo. Their faces drop. Next photo shows Huseyin cutting the red ribbon. Elif looks at Ipek. Huseyin comments, what are those pictures doing in there? Elif closes the book. She asks, could someone explain this to me? She stares at Ipek. Everyone is silent.
And we are out.
I hate this episode! The plan of Husseyn snd Nedret went smoothly. I just hate that last scene when Elif realizes who Ipek is! So well-acted. So tragic! It’s necessary to move the plot forward, but it’s one of my least favorite episodes.
Arda finally tells Omer his suspicions. But the brothers are very loyal.
Earlier, Omer’s gifts were lots of fun! They have had such a nice time together! Even more reason to dislike the ending!
Great summary, Dondi.
