Golden Boy – Yali Capkini – Poder y traicion
Episode 9 #1
“A Dark Secret” – “Un secreto oscuro”

In Antep, we see Suna walking in the market area, watched closely by Yusuf across the street. He sends her a text. She opens it, and he gets notified that it was received. She nods at him. She walks down some of the very narrow streets or alleys, with tall buildings on both sides, and finds him waiting.
Suna: I’ll kill you, Yusuf!
He tells her to calm down, but she keeps shoving and hitting him.
Suna: I don’t want you ever texting my sister or me again!
Yusuf: I drank too much and don’t remember anything. She hasn’t seen my apology yet. She must have blocked me.
Suna: What’d you say about me?
Yusuf: You know people talk.
Suna: Things have changed now. Since you didn’t run away with Seyran, you won’t call her or ask about her. Did you hear me right?
Yusuf: Don’t do that. Anyway, where would we have gone to?
Suna: A real man would’ve known.
Yusuf: They would have found us. I had a plan. It wouldn’t been easier if she’d refused.
Suna: What are you talking about? She’s going through hell!
Yusuf: You don’t think I am? Who worries about me? [What a big baby!] He took Seyran just because he’s rich.
Suna: You got drunk and spammed her, how brave of you.
Yusuf: What if she’d said no? Would your father ignore it?
Suna: Enough, drop it. Never talk to us again. Never!
Yusuf paces around. We get a view from above how Suna has left him to pace in that narrow space.

At the yali, Sultan wishes Seyran a good morning.
Seyran asks if Asuman is in her room.
Sultan tells her she is at the swimming pool. Seyran turns back to Sultan: Ms. Sultan, Ferit misunderstood the other day. But I understand you. Motherhood’s a complex thing. I completely understand if you overreacted.
Sultan, very cool, asks if she can help her with anything.
Seyran tells her she disagrees with Ferit’s actions: I didn’t want him to scold you because of me. Never.
Sultan can barely control her emotions.
Dicle, coming down the stairs, tells her mother she is surprised because that almost sounded like an apology.
Sultan: You were eavesdropping?
Dicle: You didn’t tell me what happened. I was mad at Seyran over nothing.
Sultan: Great, go tell her how much you love her. How annoying.

Outside, Seyran finds Asuman.
Seyran: Am I interrupting?
Asuman: No, Seyran, come here.
Seyran, I thought you were in your room, but I was told you were here. How are you?
Asuman: How’s married life?
Seyran: It’s alright. What about you?

Episode 9 #2
Asuman: You know. You heard the news.
Seyran: I thought about what I should do and say before coming here, but nothing came to mind.
Asuman smiles at her.
Seyran: I’m sorry.
Seyran holds Asuman’s hand.
Asuman: Thank you for trying. Should we get coffee?
Seyran: Sure.
Asuman calls for some coffee.

We see Master Necip looking at a ring very closely.
Two henchie types are standing there watching.
One of them speaks, calling him “Master,” but he tells them to be quiet.
They leave and Ferit arrives, saying: Master, I’m here. I brought you some tea.
Necip asks who asked him to do that.
Ferit: What do I do then?
Leave it and come here.
Ferit sees many pendants, rings, earrings, etc., and asks what they are.
Necip: They are from your new series. Do you like them?
When Ferit says he likes them, Necip says he still doesn’t know if he likes them. They just came. Necip: Have you lost your voice? Ferit looks at the lot for a while and then picks up a ring. He says he doesn’t like it, it’s too flashy. It looks too expensive. Our jewels are usually simpler, yet just as valuable.
Necip likes this answer: You’re not as dumb as you seem.
Ferit: The other ones are more balanced. They are beautiful.
Necip says: Come with me. Sit down, I asked you to sit. Let’s see what you can sketch out.
Ferit: Master, what am I supposed to do?
Necip: Shut up.
He leaves Ferit to figure out what to do.
Ferit says: I can’t do this, sir. Let’s just forget about it.
Necip: You haven’t even tried. I’ll rest my eyes for a bit. Don’t get up until you’re done.
Ferit makes a face and says: Alright.
Ferit takes some gems out of a box and starts drawing. His phone rings. It’s Pelin. He hangs up.

There’s a knock on Asuman’s door. It’s Ifakat, who asks how she is. Asuman says she has more tests to do at the hospital. She is meeting the anesthesiologist to set the surgery date.
Ifakat: Your parents are coming, right?
Asuman hasn’t told them: Dad’s heart is weak; I don’t want him to worry about me.
Ifakat: That’s admirable. In spite of everything, you manage to stay strong.
Asuman: Sometimes it’s difficult. I’m doing it for my husband. I know Fuat’s nervous.
Ifakat: I bet he is. It’s hard for him, too. On one hand is our family name. On the other, his love for you. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you.
Asuman: I know. You’re right. We’re pushing through for now, but sometimes I feel like I’m being unfair to Fuat.
Ifakat: I understand. But don’t forget, we’re a family. And we all know that when the moment comes, we compromise, however much might be necessary.
Asuman: I understand this is a huge sacrifice on Fuat’s part.
Ifakat: In this case, Fuat isn’t the one making a sacrifice.
There’s a knock on the door., Asuman says to come in.
Dicle tells Asuman that her that the car is ready.
She says she will be right there.
Ifakat: Don’t worry about this. We’ll talk later.

Episode 9 #3

Back at Necip’s.
Ferit picks up a paper and tells Necip he’s done. Master is asleep. He starts to awaken and asks what happened.
Ferit tells him he did what he asked. What does he think?
Necip: Well, it’s nothing to brag about, but it’s good enough. Looks like you have some talent.
Ferit smiles at this: I think I can make a better one.
Necip: Then do it. What are you waiting for?
Ferit smiles and says OK.
He asks what he should do once he’s done.
Necip tells him to take it home to his wife.
Another call from Pelin is not answered. Ferit gets to work.

In the yali kitchen. Sefika is humming to herself and mixing something with her hands. Sultan is cleaning something. Ibrahim walks in quietly and surprises Sefika. Both Sefika and Sultan yell.
Dicle then joins them in some small talk. Sefika: To what do I owe this pleasure?
Sultan: It must have gone well, right?
Ibo: Don’t’ even ask. We lost a lot the other day, and we’ve doubled the amount. [Sounds like they are playing the market.]
Sultan: We’ll see. I hope so.
Ibo: I heard you apologized to Seyran.
Sultan: Dicle told you?
Ibo: Of course she did. My precious girl doesn’t hide anything from me. She tells me everything. It’s a good thing.
Sultan: Sure, but no one’s apologized to me.
Ibo: Don’t underestimate her because she’s young. Don’t risk our jobs for this.
Sultan: Ibrahim, fine, I didn’t and won’t say anything. Happy?
Seyran comes in and says good morning to everyone.
Seyran: We’re out of water in our room and in the freezer.
Sefika: You should have called from the intercom, we would have brought some.
Seyran: I’m not used to it yet.
Ibo: Sultan, we should have mini wine bottles in the pantry.
Sultan: Thank you. I’ll get your water, Ma’am.
Seryan: Many thanks.
Sefika: Do you like baklava?
Seryan: Of course.
Sefika: How can I ask that to someone from Antep! (She brings a box full of baklava over.)
Seyran takes a piece. She asks if Sefika likes it. She says she does. She doesn’t want to brag, but she makes a pretty good baklava.
Seryan says she and Sefika should make one together. Would that be OK?
Sefika looks uncomfortable, and then says she’d love to. She says she might learn a thing or two.
Seyran: Thank you.
She takes her water and tells them to have a good day.
Sefika reminds her to use the intercom.
Sefika: What a lovely girl. Ibo teases her with some baklava, but instead he eats it. Sefika frowns at him because she fell for the unfunny joke.
Sefika comments on how rude that was and then gets a piece on her own.

Episode 9 #4

Back at Necip’s.
Ferit is working on a gold piece with a large red stone. He gets a text from Pelin: I’m here.
Necip is sleeping. Ferit leaves and takes the bracelet with him. Necip notices immediately.
Necip: Give me patience. He doesn’t have common sense. It’s loaded with precious stones here and the idiot leaves the door open. He’s a professional idiot.
Necip leaves and locks the door with a key.
Pelin is walking down the hall and sees Ferit.
He is really upset she is there. She said he didn’t answer her messages.
Ferit: Why are you dressed like that? Are you crazy?
She tells him it’s hot out here. They are in a storeroom.
Ferit: You’re crazy, he tells her. He asks if she even heard what he said: I’m working.
She looks put out.
Pelin: Ferit, you’re not actually doing anything. He shows her the bracelet.
Ferit: Look I made this. Isn’t it cool?
Pelin tells him it’s awful. He asks what is wrong with her.
Ferit: It’s a beautiful bracelet. I even added a clasp. It’s pretty solid. It’s incredible.
She tells him: Honey, that’s what jewelry is. Come, let’s go to my place.
Ferit looks very solemn at her putdown.
Ferit: I’ll ask Mr. Necip if I can leave.
Pelin: Let’s go, I’ll wait here.
Ferit: Not here, everyone knows me. Call Abidin. I’ll call you if I get the change, OK?
She begs him to come with her. He tells her he’ll try.
He goes back into the hall, and shows her where to go out. Then he runs back to the workshop. He knocks. No one answers. Necip is in the room working and ignores the knocks.
Ferit tells him he’s sorry and to please open. Necip tells him to get out here, you stupid kid.
Ferit walks off with the bracelet.
Pelin is sitting in the SUV with Abidin. She asks him: So, how long do you think this will last for?
Abidin: What do you mean?
Pelin: This new development, his job and his marriage. This is Ferit we’re talking about.
Abidin: I honestly think this is for the long-run. I don’t think any of this will end.
Pelin: But his marriage is just a formality.
Abidin: Which is exactly why it’ll last.
Pelin: Come on. Even if there was a spark between them, Ferit’s not the kind of guy who thinks about marriage.
Abidin: Even if you’re locked in a room with your enemy, at some point you will get along well. The same thing applies here.
Ferit joins them. He is angry: I was out for two minutes but he still locked me out. He wouldn’t let me back in.
Abidin smiles: That’s not good.
Ferit: Of course not. I know he’ll tell grandfather. I have to go home. If I don’t go home now, I’ll be in big trouble.
Pelin: Don’t say that. Come on, baby. You don’t care about this.
Ferit: Then what should I do then, Pelin?
Pelin: What if we go get ice cream?
Ferit: OK, Bebek?
Pelin: Sure. They make the best honey roasted almonds.
She tells Abidin he knows where they always go…
The SUV drives through an alley on its way out.

Episode 9 #5

Istanbul is beautiful in the evening. Sefika is nervous. She asks Carlos to take the salad dressing upstairs. We see Abidin at the servant’s table, eating. Carlos told her he would and Sefika is thrilled because he understands her (His Turkish is improving). She tells “my handsome Abidin” that he will love the kebab she has made. It smells great. Meanwhile, Dicle is checking her phone. All of a sudden, Sefika cries out. Dicle reaches her first. She burned her hand and Dicle puts it under cold water. Sefika tells her she is fine and to go up and help your mother and take the dishes. Meanwhile, Abidin comes over to check her hand. She tells him she is fine and gives him a saffron dish to eat. “Eat and calm yourself,” she says to Abidin. He notices the phone and asks if it is Dicle’s. Sefika tells him to put it over on a shelf. She says: She’ll kill us if we touch it.
Abidin: Sefika, you know I don’t like saffron.

Abidin notices the telephone is ringing again. Sefika asks Abidin who it is. Secil, a friend of Dicle. Answer and tell her she left her phone behind. A man answers when he calls it. We see the kitchen door open. Dicle runs to get her phone. She yanks away her phone and asks him what he’s doing. How dare you answer my phone for me! Sefika tells her that Secil was calling and she told him to answer. Why do you care who calls me? Her father comes in and gets angry at Dicle. Is this how you treat your elders? He asks her again when she doesn’t answer. Is that how we raised you? Abidin tells them it was nothing and to calm down.
Dicle: Then everyone should treat each other with respect. She walks away. Her father yells at her to come back. Dicle! Sefika says she got upset at Abidin for answering Secil’s call. What’s with her?
Abidin: Maybe she thought I was looking through her phone. I’ll talk to her later.
Sefika: That’s no excuse for her attitude. She’s just like her mother. Ibo pats Abidin’s shoulder as he walks to the table. Abidin takes some fruit while lost in thought.

Upstairs, we see the family in a subdued mood as they eat their dinner. Ferit sits quietly and is probably thinking about when Necip will tell Halis. Halis asks what time Kazim’s family will arrive.
Orhan tells him around noon. Halis tells them Ibo will greet them. He can handle any requests they may have.
Halis: Ferit, are you getting along with Necip?
Ferit tells him they are getting along well.
Ferit: But, I made a mistake.
Gulgun inhales sharply and looks at Orhan.
Halis: He trusted you with the workshop, and you left without telling him.
Ferit: Grandfather, I left for two minutes. I had something on my mind, and he was inside, sleeping. I never thought…
Halis: All those unique pieces, stones…
Ferit: I’m really sorry. It won’t happen again.
Ifakat: It hasn’t even been a month, and he’s receiving complaints.
Halis: I’m not criticizing him, relax. Mr. Necip was angry when he called. His issue was with us. (Orhan’s head snaps toward Halis at hearing this!) He said we should’ve taken him as a kid. He said he has no ambition, but he has a good eye. (Gulgun smiles broadly at this.)
Orhan: Are you serious? Mr. Necip said that?
Ferit pokes Seyran with his elbow and grins. She makes a thumbs up sign.
Gulgun: My son can handle whatever he sets his mind to for as long as he wants to.
Ifakat and Fuat don’t look as pleased. Ferit is grinning ear to ear.
Halis: The proverb says a miracle can be found in every marriage.
Ferit tries to take Seyran’s hand but grabs her thigh. She is startled and yells. He takes his hand back and she explains that she bit her tongue.

Episode 9 #6

Later, we see the servants clearing the table while the family (Orhan, Ifakat, Gulgun) sits in the living area. Sultan asks if they need anything else. Ifakat tells her no, thank you. Get some rest.
Gulgun shares that Asuman isn’t doing well and won’t speak to anyone. Orhan says it’s not easy on any of us. Ifakat says he is overreacting: You really think Fuat will never have a biological child?
Gulgun: What are you saying?
Ifakat: He can have a child with someone else, then raise it within the family. Isn’t that what Halis did?
Orhan: Don’t ever speak of that woman again, Ifakat. Should I remind you of what happened?
Gulgun: Enough, some things aren’t meant to happen.
Orhan stares daggers at Ifakat: Our only shot at having grandchildren is up to Ferit.
Asuman has quietly entered the room and sharply takes in her breath.
Gulgun: Asuman, what are you doing?
Asuman: Nothing. I left my phone in my room.
Gulgun is annoyed at Orhan and Ifakat and gets up to leave, following Asuman.
Orhan: That was so rude of me.
Ifakat: It’s OK. You spoke your mind. She’s a smart girl. She knows what people are thinking.
Orhan: I hope this is for the best.
Asuman walks up toward the swimming pool. [A Turkish cat is also there. Love those cats.] She stands at the pool and rubs her stomach. Gulgun reaches her and they hug and cry.

In their attic room, Seyran is knocking on the bathroom door. She tells Ferit to come out. She tells him that he can’t hide in there. He finally opens the door and asks: Is everything OK?
He comes out laughing and tells her she is like a child.
She tells him he is insane: Yesterday you kissed me, and now you grab my thigh under the table?
Ferit shrugs: I was reaching for your hand.
Seyran: I’m going crazy! Stop touching me.
Ferit: You’re making a big fuss. I was just teasing you.
Seyran: Can’t you see you’re harassing me?
Ferit: You’re overreacting. Do you know what this could be like if it was somebody else? I introduced you to Pelin on our wedding night. I didn’t lay a finger on you.
Seyran struggles to ask: Where’d that kiss come from?
Ferit: It was a reflex. (He gives a little grin.) You were so angry and so close. I didn’t know what to do. You slapped me for it, and I apologized. What more do you want from me?
He takes something from his nightstand. Seyran is curious.
Ferit: I made you something. Take it as an apology.
Seyran: You think I’m softening up?
Ferit: I don’t know about that. I just made it for you. What do you think?
Seyran: You really made this?
Ferit: I swear.
Seyran: It’s obvious that you did.
Ferit: Why?
Seyran: You have no taste. It’s a bit crooked.
Ferit: Really? Keep in mind this is my first time making jewelry. It’s not that bad. I actually like it.
Seyran: I was teasing. It’s really good.
Ferit: You don’t have to lie.
Seyran: I really do like it. Look at this. It’s really good for your first.
Ferit: What do you mean? Give it back.
Seyran: No, I’ll laugh about it until I get bored. (She has a slight smile now.)

Episode 9 #7
Ferit: Give it back. Right now.
She won’t give it back. She says you want me to give you back my present?
Ferit: A present is supposed to be appreciated. She dangles it and then hides it. They are very close during this. Both are smiling. Lots of good chemistry here!
Ferit: Give it back! You are acting like a child.
She dangles it in front of him again. They end up falling on the bed, Ferit on top. They look at one another, obviously briefly mutually enchanted.
He smiles at her: Can I have it back please? He tries to pry it out of her fingers. He is just reaching down to kiss her, and it looks to me like she would have let him, when someone knocks on the patio door urgently.
Seyran is startled out of her trancelike state.
Seyran: Get off me. Someone’s outside.
Ferit: Calm down, it must be Pelin.
Seyran: What? How?
Ferit: She’s driving me crazy.
He pulls open the curtain and it is indeed Pelin, making silly faces. He opens the door and she enters.
Pelin: Hey I was freezing out there.
Seyran gapes at her.
Ferit: What are you doing here? It’s late.
Pelin: I was around the area. I just had to go up a few steps.
Ferit gives Seyran an unhappy look.
Seyran tells them both they need to stop doing this.
Pelin gets some water from the carafe: Ahh, I was thirsty. Want some?
Seyran: I’m trying to understand here. You climbed over a wall to get here?
Ferit laughs at this.
Pelin: I could’ve come through the front door, but I didn’t want to embarrass you.
Ferit explains: We have a staircase that goes up to the roof.
Seyran: How does she get to the staircase?
Ferit: There’s no one watching. You just go up.
Seyran: Unbelievable.
Ferit: What now, girls? Should we watch a movie? Let’s lighten the mood.
Pelin: That sounds good. Ferit, are you hungry? Should we order pizza?
Seyran looks more and more incredulous.
Ferit: This late?
He brings his laptop over to the couch to choose a movie.
Seyran is standing in the middle of the room: Are you playing with me? What’s wrong with you?
Pelin: I asked him the same question when I found out you were getting married.
Seyran moves her tongue around in her mouth, obviously not happy.
Ferit: I found a good movie. Let’s watch it together. (He pats the couch on his left, while Pelin is on his right.) He tells Pelin to move over.
Seyran: I can’t stay here any longer. Do whatever you want.
She heads for the door.
Ferit: Seyran, Seyran! Don’t be ridiculous.
She walks out and slams the door behind her.
Pelin: Let her go. Your room used to look much better.
Ferit: Don’t start.
Pelin: You got a little carried away with this whole marriage thing.
Ferit: What are you saying?
Ferit moves away from her on the couch.

Episode 9 #8
Pelin: You wouldn’t have made her leave. Weren’t we going to watch a movie together?
Ferit looks at her: Yes. You must be going crazy. You come in through the balcony, then expect me to kick out Seyran? You’re crazy.
Pelin: At least she’s gone for a bit.
Ferit: She left on her own.
Pelin: It’s just you and me now. What are we watching?
We see that Seyran is listening to this just outside the door. She gets fed up and walks away and down the stairs. Her face is a thundercloud.
As she is stomping around, she sees Orhan kissing Ifakat, his sister-in-law in her doorway. Seyran backs away holding her hands over her mouth to keep from making any noise. She backs into a corner near the stairs. Then she hears Latif saying to Halis: That works. I’ll go see Mr. Ferit now. Good night.
Latif comes around the corner.
Seyran, loyal, runs upstairs to warn Ferit. She runs into the room.
Pelin tells her she can tell the whole family if she wants.
Seyran: Mr. Latif is on his way here.
Ferit: You’re joking?
Seyran: Believe me, I’m in no position to lie.
Ferit: Hurry, Pelin. The balcony.
There is a knock on the door. Ferit puts Pelin on the balcony and shuts that door.
Latif: Mr. Ferit, are you busy?
Ferit: One second, Latif. (He closes the curtain.)
Ferit opens the door: Did something happen?
Latif: I just spoke to Mr. Halis. He said you should apologize to Necip. You must make it up to him somehow.
Ferit: OK, perfect. That’s exactly what I was going to do.
Letif turns to leave and stops.
Ferit: Is there something else?
Latif: No, have a good night.
Ferit: Unbelievable.
He goes to the patio door: Pelin, come here.
Pelin comes in saying she is freezing.
Sehran is sitting, still processing what she saw between Orhan and Ifakat.
Ferit: Seyran, do you have a jacket she can borrow?
Pelin: No, give me something of yours.
He goes to grab something.
Pelin looks askance at Seyran: What’s with the face?
Ferit: Seyran? Seryan!
Seryan: What?
Ferit: Are you OK?
Seyran: I’m fine. I’ve never been better.
Both Pelin and Ferit look at her from the couch.
Ferit: She’s crazy, but I had nothing to do with that. She’s very anxious. I’ve gotten used to it.
Seyran mocks him, repeating: I’ve gotten used to it.
Pelin laughs and Ferit says he wasn’t expecting that.
Pelin: Why are you so upset?
Seyran: You two are crazy. Had I not gone downstairs you two would’ve been caught.
Ferit tells her to please calm down. It’s over now. Latif won’t be back tonight. We’re fine.
Seyran: What did you say? All night?
Ferit: That’s what I said.
Seyran: You two are crazy. Grab your little girlfriend and go wherever you’d like. (She points to the patio door.) Take your stairs and leave. Do whatever you want, just leave me alone.
Pelin (who is loving this): She’s so dramatic. Why is she so upset?
Seyran: I wish I’d never come to this house.
Pelin: You’re right, she’s so tense.

Episode 9 #9
Ferit: OK, calm down. Seyran, come sit and watch the movie with us. Or go to sleep. Whatever you want. Relax.
Pelin: Who’s sleeping where?
Ferit: You and Seyran take the bed. I’ll sleep on the couch.
Another knock on the door. Mr. Ferit?
Ferit: No way. Pelin, go outside. Close the door.
Seyran: Go, run!
Ferit opens the door: Mr. Latif? You were just here. Is everything OK?
Letif: I couldn’t leave without telling you.
Ferit: What?
Latif: I went to my room, but I had to tell you. Don’t trust Necip. He’ll tell your grandfather the moment he sees a mistake. One day he praises, the next he betrays. He’s unpredictable. That’s all.
Ferit: I’d already noticed that. He’s quite strange. Thank you for telling me, though.
Latif: Of course. Have a good night, Ma’am (with that hint of a smile again.)
Ferit: Good night. Thanks a lot, by the way.
He closes the door and runs to the patio door: She must be freezing.
He lets Pelin in again.
Pelin: What’s going on?
Ferit: I’m sorry, this is how it is.
Pelin: You can’t catch a break. I think I’d better leave.
Ferit: Weren’t we watching a movie?
Pelin: I’m not in the mood anymore. I wanted to see you, but I’ll come back. (She looks right at Seyran when she says this.)
Ferit: Are you sure?
Pelin: See you, Seyran. Here, take this back (she returns his jacket).
Ferit tells her to keep it. Seyran waves goodbye, smiling sarcastically.
Pelin: Thank you. Have a good night.
Ferit: Pelin, it’s cold outside. Be careful.
She smiles as she leaves.
Ferit: We’ll talk later.
He laughs as he closes the door and curtain. She’s crazy!
Seyran: You are rude. Why don’t you walk her out?
Ferit: Why do you say that, Seyran? I thought we’d watch the movie together.
Seryan: Don’t even think about it.
Ferit: Seyran, we have to fix this. This isn’t working. Am I sleeping on the couch for the rest of my life?

In the morning, Seyran wakes on the bed holding a pillow. Ferit is already up and gone. There is a really nice Turkish song playing, it sounds like din dan, din dan as a chorus. We also see Orhan, Gulgun and Ifakat politely sitting in the living room as if nothing inappropriate happened between Orhan and his sister-in-law overnight. Seyran walks into the room, still affected by what she saw last night. She walks straight to the table. The others join her. Ifakat stares at Seyran.

At Necip’s, Ferit is sweeping the hall in front of the workshop. He finally sees Necip come trudging up. He goes to give him the respectful kiss, but Necip doesn’t want it. Instead, he gives him a key. Ferit grins.

While the great song is still playing, we see Suna readying to leave Antep, with furniture covered with sheets. She stares at their things, probably full of memories, good and bad. Esme seems likewise affected. Suna goes out and shuts the door. Mother, daughter, aunt, and several suitcases are in the courtyard. Finally, Kazim comes out of his door. Hattuc is the last to leave, and she is very reluctant to go to Istanbul. They get into a large van and off they go.

Back at the yali, we see someone making sketches of birds. It is Latif!
Seyran knocks on a door. It is Latif’s room. She asks if he is busy. He covers the pictures he is sketching.
Latif: Did something happen?
Seyran is captivated by the artwork he has on the wall. She tells him she like to draw as well. He tells her it is more of a hobby.
What’s the matter, he asks.
Well, my parents are arriving today. Can I pick them up?
Letif: How kind. Have you spoke to Ms. Ifakat?
Seyran: No, I wanted to ask you first.
Latif: You must talk to Ms. Ifakat about these things first. If she considers it appropriate, I’ll assign you a driver.
Seyran: OK, thank you.
She turns to leave, but Latif tells her: Every room here is its own home. Privacy at home is crucial. I handle everything with the utmost discretion. I expect the same from you. Don’t take this the wrong way.
Seyran: Of course not, I’m sorry. I’ll be more careful.

Ifakat has a knock on her door. Seyran enters. Seyran is having a hard time even looking at Ifakat after what she witnessed the previous night. She takes a deep breath.
Ifakat: Is everything OK?
Seyran: Yes, everything is fine. If it’s OK with you, can I pick up my parents?
Ifakat: Is it an emergency?
Seyran: No, not at all. I just want to see them.
Ifakat: We’ll have them over very soon. [I can’t believe Seyran isn’t being allowed to pick up her parents. This is really like a gilded jail!]. That way you’ll get to see them.
Seyran takes a pause and then says: Sure. But what’s wrong with picking them up? I don’t understand.
Ifakat: You’re a Korhan now. It’s more appropriate if no one knows how much you miss your family.
Seyran gives her a long glare and then agrees. She then walks away.

Lobo

Thursday…Antonia has handcuffed Lobo to her. I’m getting tired of Antonia. Over and over she sees how corrupt Dante and Cruz are, and she keeps trying to put Lobo in prison.

Dante seems to be experiencing twisted love. He’s texting Antonia when he stops himself and mutters that he’s behaving like an adolescent. His blood pressure rises thinking that she might prefer Lobo. He talks himself off the ledge saying she was just doing her job meeting with Lobo. He keeps insulting and bullying everyone at the cop shop. Guess they don’t have any management training classes in the D.F. police.

Cruz tells El Az not to let Graciela know he’s involved with the crooked deals. Cruz keeps pushing his luck with El Az, saying the nicotine gum El Az chews is making him more impulsive.

Dante sends Antonia some texts accusing Lobo of things. Antonia calls Dante. Once again, they don’t catch him. She and Lobo, handcuffed still, run into a wooded area.

Cocula keeps trying to answer his phone on the side that was burned with hot chocolate by either Fernando or Santiago, forget which. Surprise! Cocula loves his wife.

Renata keeps drawing the tattoo of the guy who came to her house. Ferando and Santi are so good with her.

Cruz has come to meet Cocula and the other evil guy at the strip club. Cocula asks Cruz when they can dar cuello a Lobo (kill him).

The press hears from Graciela about Lobo and Miranda. Antonio jumps to the wrong conclusion, that they were lovers recently. He tells her it was 10 years ago that they had a relationship.

Dante has ordered (and paid) some guy at the new prison to make sure Eugenio is protected.

Adela’s son, Javier, got into a fight at school and is suspended. He tells her it’s because some kids said his mother was a loose woman because he doesn’t have a father.

El Az invites Graciela to dinner with his family, prepared by his mother. He tells her not to dress like a prostitute. She accepts and meets his two sons and their girlfriends. But some guys show up shooting. I’m not clear if they’re police or a rival gang.

Antonia pretends to be asleep and Lobo jimmies the handcuffs. But she was faking. She points her gun at him and says that, if he doesn’t give himself up, she’ll shoot him.

There doesn’t seem to be much interest in this telenovela. I’ve really only seen comments and/or recaps from 3 of us. I’ll continue to watch, but I do want to catch up and join the Golden Boy party, so this may be reduced to a few comments by me going forward.

lobo OT

Novelera, thank you for the mini! Too bad more people aren’t joining this. I’m still watching but my interest is waning a bit.

Good luck with your book club. I loved that you are hiding your tv so your erudite pals won’t know you stoop to watching tv! They don’t know what they’re missing! You might throw some Turkish phrases into the meeting to spice things up!

"LOBO"
Novelera & Babachita: I'm watching this Telenovela. I agree with you on Antonia: She's ANNOYING!

I'll be shocked if this has a happily ever after, which I don't see it happening because NOT every Telenovela ends with happy endings.

Lobo

I don't know how how big our patio is, or how many people have found these recaps. It may be that people don't have anything to add.

I will say that there is more chemistry between Santi and Fercho than with Arap Bethke and anyone. His eyes are too intense and serious.

OT

Also, can we do some thinking about the difference between transcripts and recaps? I appreciate all the work that goes into transcripts, but for the US- Mexico produced shows English subtitles are available for the online versions. It may be off-putting for some to scroll past hundreds of words about a show they are not watching.

For instance Lobo had a cute scene between Adela and her son. It doesn't appear to be important to the plot so Novelera skipped it for the recap. We don't need a transcript of every word, in my opinion.

OT

I’m sorry we don’t have much activity on the Telemundo pages. I hope no one gets discouraged from participating.

Care and Feeding of a Recapper
http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2010/06/care-and-feeding-of-recapper.html

The post was encouraging people to comment but in general it’s about appreciation.

I don’t mind detail. Small things can be easily missed, and it’s good to have it on the record to look back. No problem for me to scroll if it’s not important to me. It might be important to others.

Yes, I’m guilty of posting long recaps, but I’ve also stepped in to provide shorter ones from time to time. I think there’s value in any participation, recaps and/or comments, no matter how long or short. It’s a service to the wonderful Caray community. I haven’t found another place as welcoming and supportive, and as fun as this. I’ve learned a lot about languages and cultures. I appreciate you all.

lobo

My thanks to novelera and Anastasia for keeping this going. I have been reading the recaps and comments. I don’t know how much I can contribute and I’m sorry about that. I’m invested in Golden and KPA at the moment and short on time.

I also have to admit after the first 2 eps, I haven’t been paying full attention. Even though this is not a narco novela, it has the elements of it, the action, violence and overacting. I think I have some fatigue from watching Dinastia Casillas.

Dante is awful. Both the character and unfortunately, the actor in this role. A turn off since he’s on screen a lot.

I do like Santi and Fercho very much. Renata is good, too. Big Ed is always a treat.

Thanks, Babachita. I truly appreciate the effort you made on this recap.

Song: Derinden/Deeply - Barış Diri
YouTube with translation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKNegJz4P-U&list=RDGKNegJz4P-U&start_radio=1

Not the best translation but you get the idea. I’ve heard this in other dizis. It’s on my dizi playlist.

Look at Ferit’s little spark of joy when he made that bracelet. Pelin was not very supportive of her boyfriend.

Seyran teased Ferit about the bracelet but I think turnabout is fair play. He’s merciless with his teasing. She made her point about feeling harassed. But he made his point about not forcing her to consummate the marriage. If Kazim married her off to an antepli, who knows what would happen.

#Seyfer chemistry is starting to bubble. Afra played the falling on the bed scene so well. You could see the mix of fright and anticipation in her eyes and in her breathing. Afra and Mert are great together #Afram.

Brothers Ferit and Fuat are so different. We don’t see much of an interaction yet. Looks like Fuat resents the attention that Ferit gets. Ferit is a squeaky wheel.

Ifakat is disgusting. She’s proposing that Fuat should baby with someone else. She doesn’t care about Asuman. Just the Korhan family legacy.

And we find out that Halis has a daughter out there somewhere. Was Halis the original çapkın?

Now Seyran has something to hold against Ifakat and Orhan. Apparently Orhan is a bit of a çapkın, too. Ferit has it in his DNA!

In all my years of dizi watching, I have never seen one where there wasn’t at least one cat sighting. Another reason I love dizis.

OT

Thank you for your thoughtful comments, Dondi. I have done short, medium, and long summaries. I understand that scrolling past a long one is a bit frustrating, but as all Telemundo novelas are on one page, that seems unavoidable. I always learn from these, whether I write or read. There are many details that I miss. Yours, with the additional enrichment of Turkish culture, are priceless.

Short ones give the details and move the story forward. All are valuable.

The link to Care and Feeding of a Recapper was timely. I just started doing these last year in Lejos and KPA after many years of lurking. I was timid and unsure how to proceed. I knew the purpose was for SLL (Spanish language learners), so accuracy was important. Just getting it down in the short amount of time was daunting. I didn’t know what to include or leave out. Taking time to refine took even more time. I reminded myself that this isn’t a thesis, and that good enough is OK. I have improved over time, but it’s still intimidating. The positive encouragement from comments has helped so much. I’m still developing my style. It takes time as well as patience on behalf of the readers for someone to become a master at this. I’m really grateful that some of the masters are still recapping!

Very good point that many have English subtitles on this network. Not so for Univision. I think any effort, long, medium, short is valuable and worth scrolling through other entries. I don’t watch all novelas and do my share of scrolling as well.

There is more than one goal and audience here. Some want just the facts while others want all the details and cultural information, a description so thorough you can “see” it while reading. Both are worthwhile.

I’m sure there are others that are intimidated to start writing these as I had been. Here’s hoping they’ll give it a try.

I'm writing this from work. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble with my personal laptop. There is a possibility I might not be able to post anything for the weekend. I'm going to a store after work to see if I can find a fix. If you don't hear from me at all on Saturday or Sunday, you'll know why. I've got about half of the KPA recap done. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.

Dondi, if you can’t do the rest of your kpa, if you publish what you have I can finish.

If not, let me know and I can do the whole one. We can just pause Golden at #9 and pick it up
later, since it’s generally just you and me.

Sorry, I went to the symphony tonight so I don't know how soon I will watch tonight's episode - Lobo #8.

Golden

I have to admit I’m just not feeling Lobo. I gave up after Big Ed and Marjorie had their talk in the yard and he kept burping loudly…. I do follow Golden right now and I totally appreciate you ladies going back from episode 1 to fill in many of the blanks for me! I love the details in the conversations! I have xfinity and we don’t have access to CC3 subtitles for some reason so I hv to figure it out on my own or watch YouTube and the English captions aren’t so good. (haven’t tried Peacock yet) So I was so happy that it would be here on Caray. I do understand tho that it is a “labor of love” on your parts and I don’t want you to burn out! I thank you so much for all you do, it is a terrific treat to have this site.

So glad they found your comment, Steve! I’m still having trouble relating to Antonia! I do want Diego to get a huge anvil. Watching Big Ed and Marjorie is entertaining. He is crass but enjoys life to the fullest. Why doesn’t she have a man of her own? His mother is scary! It was funny that she automatically expects Graciela to cook! I wonder how that went.

Lobo is cool. He is good with unlocking things and removing rounds! Useful skills. I don’t want an unhappy ending, Steve! Any chance?

I can't believe they started with such a fantastic cast of old pros and came up with such a frustrating show. While I admit to being big on recording shows and skipping the previews, what I did see seemed to be about a man saving a little girl. And that we'd see them running from baddies and bonding.

Antonia thought she had Lobo at gunpoint, only to learn he'd taken the bullets when she passed out after her fall.

You're right, dondi, in that the actor playing Dante is hamming it up and snarling to the point that I cringe every time he appears. And he's worn that same long-sleeved t-shirt that seems to have been designed to show off his musculature for a solid week now. How did Lobo restrain himself from smashing that pistol into Dante's face a few times when he, again, got the best of him?

Eugenio got bullied by some disgusting punks, but his protector put a stop to it and nearly froze the ringleader to death in a freezer.

El Az, his overbearing mamá, and his two sons have moved into Graciela's home. The mamá isn't happy Graciela can't cook. But Big Ed improves every scene he's in. He has a thing for Chela. I worked with a Graciela, but the guys from Mexico all called her Chela. But he sees her for who she is, someone who wants to get her hands on her sister's money.

Antonia found the location of the newest hideout at Santi and Fercho's place after Dante tried to get her to eat some food he'd brought, saying it was thoroughly searched. Dante went ahead, planning to kill Lobo and not having Antonia come along. But...foiled again.

And Lobo managed to open handcuffs...again. He got away and then was found by Antonia for the Friday cliffhanger.

It feels like they're never going to leave La Ciudad de México.

"LOBO"
Novelera: Thank you very much for your recap of last night's episode. My personal thoughts (it will be super-short).

*Lobo taking the bullets out of Gullible Antonia's gun was quite wise. Considering he used to be in law enforcement back in the day, he must be the Jack Bauer of Mexico.

*Graciela doesn't know how to cook ? LOL: Has she learned anything in life?

*Scumbag Dante is continuing to up the ante. Wondering why does he hate Lobo so much?

*Eugenio has a special protector? Wondering what's the special protector's angle in all of this including his backstory?

*Dondi356: I also have a theory about the Old Lady FAKING her illness, etc.,

*The Villains keep winning 24/7. Wondering what are the odds & percentage that Telemundo brings this back for another season?

Lobo

I noticed that on Telemundo's online schedule for Monday, March 2, Lobo is scheduled to start at both 10 pm Eastern and 10:15 pm E. I don't know if that means La Casa de Los Famosos will run over a few minutes. I didn't watch Friday's Lobo episode on TV to see what chyron scheduling message they gave us.

Thank you SaraAnne. Peacock gives ccs in both Eng and Spanish. I do speak Spanish, but doing summaries is much faster in my native English. If only I spoke Turkish! I dabble with Duolingo, but I need to focus more. I usually try to watch a dizi episode at least once in Turkish to hear the actual actor’s voices. Dondi is right that Seyran’s father with his Antep accent is fun to hear!

It's my week to put up the pages for next week. My DirecTV guide says Lobo will start 15 minutes late because of Casa de los Famosos reality show running late. Or, as I like to call it: Casa de Mujeres con las más Cirugías Cosméticas.

Dondi, sending you my best wishes for your computer's health.

I'm watching too many shows and this one is likely to go by the wayside. I'm recording it and could possibly pick it back up, but I'm not a fan of violent type shows and this one is definitely in that category.

Steve, I don't share your penchant for death and gore. I've only been watching for 3 years so I can go and watch old TNs or dizis if all that is on offer is narco novelas
Honestly, I never really watched much TV and I am getting burned out on it. Planting season has arrived and the days are getting longer so I don't need TV to amuse me.

#10 part 1

Replay of Seyran going to Latif’s room. Then she asks Ifakat if she can pick up her parents when they arrive in Istanbul. Ifakat is so nasty, she denies her request. Oooh, I want Seyran to blackmail her so badly!

Ibo has picked up the Sanlis and is driving them to their new home in Istanbul. Suna and Esme are enjoying this. Kazim is irritated. Hattuc asks him why he’s frowning. I didn’t expect Halis Aga to come, but someone should have come. Orhan, Fuat, Ferit… that’s all I’m saying. Ayip be!

Ferit bey wanted to pick you up, but he had to work, Ibo says. Oh, Kazim replies, he found a job? You could say that, Ibo answers, Halis Aga has him working with one of the workshop’s old masters. Master? Kazim asks, Ferit is an apprentice? Ibo says that’s all he knows. Kazim can’t believe that the grandson of Halis Korhan is an apprentice. Hattuc taps Kazim and tells him to be quiet. What…Kazim says, the driver already knows and told us.

The Sanlis enter their new home. Kazim is immediately impressed. Wow! Look at this! Hattuc looks horrified. This is terrible, she complains, I can’t stay here. Suna gasps when she sees the dining room. [If I counted right, it seats 18.] Kazim tells them to look at the kitchen…you won’t miss our house once you get used to this place.

Kazim tells Esme to look around. She and Suna head to the solarium. Esme looks down and is startled, she didn’t realize how high up this was. Kazim laughs at her, it’s not like you’ll be throwing stuff from here, brainless one. Look at this view! From now on, you will look down on everyone from here.

Ibo asks, Kazim Bey, is there anything else you need? Hattuc asks if there’s any food or drink. We are hungry from the trip. Ibo says yes, he stocked the kitchen this morning. She thanks him and says the girls will prepare something. Kazim stops Ibo and asks, where are you going? I’m going back to the yali, Ibo replies, but if you want to go somewhere, I’ll take you. He tells Ibo to wait downstairs. I’ll go with you to see Halis Aga and kiss his hand.

Hattuc is annoyed with Kazim. Do you think they’re sitting around waiting for you? It’s the great Halis Aga, Kazim answers. Wouldn’t this be correct? Should I wait for an invitation from him? I’ll go, kiss his hand. I want to see how he’s doing. Ibo goes downstairs. Hattuc hopes that Halis won’t be angry at Kazim.

Let him say what he wants, Kazim declares. I didn’t say anything to the driver. And did you hear what he said? Our damat Ferit is an apprentice! His grandfather couldn’t get him a real job. Let’s set aside that he’s sick, he’s just useless. Hattuc counters, they probably know what they are doing. You’re looking for trouble. Kazim answers, now that they’ve taken Seyran, they must do the right thing. If we leave them alone, you can forget about Seyran.

Hattuc begs him not to make a scene. I know what to say, Kazim snaps, I know! Just focus on your work. Keep a good eye on them (Esme and Suna). Things won’t be any different than they were in Antep… Bilesin! (so you know). Esme! Get my suit and iron my white shirt! Hurry, the man is waiting downstairs. Okay, ağam, she replies. Kazim explores the upper floor. He’s giddy.

Staff is sitting in the kitchen complaining when Dicle rushes in—he’s coming! It’s Latif. Oh, mashallah! It seems like you have nothing to do! Sefika answers, we’ve been working nonstop, Latif Bey, can’t we take a break? Look, dinner is ready. This is no time for a break, Latif replies, Ibo is bringing Seyran’s father. Make tea and prepare something. Hadi, çabuk! He orders Carlos and Dicle to come with him. Sefika and Sultan grumble and get started. Sefika mocks behind his back… oh, the great Latif Ağa! What a grouch, Sultan adds.

#10 part 2

Suna calls Seyran to let her know they’ve arrived. Seyran is excited. How’s the house? We can talk about that later, Suna replies, Dad is on his way there. Seyran’s smile fades. Hello? Seyran? Yes, I’m here, Seyro says, I heard, thanks. Suna has to go. They can talk later.

Everything is prepared for Kazim’s arrival. Ifakat and Seyran come to the living room. Halis and Latif enter. The SUV pulls into the yali grounds. Kazim gets out and he’s amazed. Mashallah… mashallah. He pulls on his ear and since there’s no wood, he knocks on his head [lol], to ward off the evil eye. Latif and Carlos are there to welcome him. Kazim follows Latif inside.

Seyran is very nervous. Ifakat takes note. Kazim enters the yali-- hayırlı olsun! Fate has brought us together again! I’ll kiss your hand, ağa. He shakes Ifakat’s hand. Seyran has her head down. She flashes back to her father locking her in the storeroom. She snaps out if it when her father calls—my daughter! Come give your father a hug. He puts his arms out wide. He hugs her and calls her “canım”. It’s like she’s in shock. She kisses his hand and meekly says, welcome, dad.

Kazim turns back to Halis. Who would have thought we were destined to be a family? If only Dad could have seen these days. Yes, Kazim, Halis replies, the last time I saw you, you were a child. Please sit. I hope you don’t mind me coming, Kazim says, I wanted to come right away to kiss your hand and get your blessing. And I wanted to see my daughter. I hope it’s not a bad time, I see no one is here.

Estağfirullah, ne demek, Halis says, you can come to our door anytime. Kazim thanks him, May Allah be pleased with you. Ifakat explains that Orhan, Fuat, and Ferit are working, and Gulgun went out. We didn’t know you were coming. Sorry.

Don’t mention it, Kazim says. And how is Ferit doing? Health wise, I mean. Is he okay? He’s fine, Ifakat replies, don’t worry. We were very scared when he fainted, Kazim recounts, nobody told me the kid was sick. I’m glad he’s doing better.

Halis is thrown a bit off balance. He answers, well… thank God he’s fine… young people, of course, recover quickly. Kazim continues, everyone was pale, you should have seen them. And my beautiful daughter was very worried. Halis is upset but says nothing.

Kazim notes that Halis looks a little tired. He offers to bring healing herbs from Antep. Halis thanks him and says he’s fine. This is just old age. Kazim answers, if you take care of yourself, you’ll outlive all of us. Ifakat cringes. Kazim gets up, I got to see you and kiss your hand and if you excuse me, I’ll leave. Of course, Halis replies, you must be tired from the trip.

Halis starts to get up but Kazim tells him he was going to bring Hattuc, too. But she’s also getting older. Another shock for Halis. Kazim says, we’ll come tomorrow if you’re available. Seyran’s mother misses her. Ifakat explains that Asuman is getting surgery tomorrow, we’re all worried. We’ll have you over when it’s more appropriate. Kazim gives get well wishes. Let me know if I can do anything to help. We are nearby for now.

Give our regards to your family, Halis says, thank you for coming. Halis gets up and Kazim kisses his hand. He shakes Ifakat’s hand and holds his hand out for Seyran to kiss. Seyran has been quiet the whole time. Kazim leaves.

Halis turns to Ifakat. Why am I just finding out about Ferit? I didn’t know either, she replies, I’m sure Orhan didn’t want to upset you. If it was serious, we would have known. Halis is angry—since when does Orhan decide what is serious and what is not? Halis leaves the room.

#10 part 3

Seyran is on the phone with Suna. Esme is by her side. Aunt Hattuc told dad he shouldn’t go but… Seyran says that Halis didn’t know about Ferit fainting. He got angry after Dad told him. Esme says, ask her if they said anything to her. No, they haven’t said anything, Seyran replies, he was angry with his son and his DIL. He didn’t even come down for dinner.

Seyran changes the subject, how do you like Istanbul? We are still exhausted from the trip, Suna replies, we haven’t left the house yet. Seyro tells her, you should go out, Suna, see the streets. I’ll show you around as soon as I can. Suna asks, you’ve walked around? No, Seyro says, I just went shopping with Ferit’s mom the other day. I miss you and mom very much. Esme says, we miss you too, dear. There’s a knock at the door and Seyran has to go.

It’s Ferit. Can I come in? Since when do you have manners, Seyran says, what is it? I’m being careful, Ferit answers, I know you’re still mad. With pointed fingers, he adds—but don’t get used to it. She mocks his gesture and replies, then keep your hands to yourself. Don’t touch me again. I’ll try, he says. BTW, you can sleep in tomorrow. Grandpa won’t be coming to breakfast.

Seyran asks, did something happen? Ferit says, Asuman needs to fast for her surgery. Fuat and mom will go with her. I’m also leaving early for work. Grandpa doesn’t like an empty table. I understand, Seyran replies, I know my father upset him a little as well. Ferit agrees saying, he might not have come if you had gone to pick them up. Seyran says that Ifakat didn’t allow it.

Allow it? Ferit asks, why did you ask permission? Because I couldn’t go on my own, Seyran answers. I went to Latif first. You thought of everyone except me and Abidin, Ferit says. She asks, would it have been different? He says he would have taken her. I’m serious, she replies, this isn’t a joke. Ferit sighs and says, then wait for me tomorrow. We could go together. I miss them, too.

Seyran throws a pillow at him, calls him an idiot and heads for the bed, He complains, how much longer will I sleep on the couch? I can barely sleep. Everything hurts. You’ll be fine, she replies, you’re not so delicate. He answers, I’ve been sleeping on the couch for days… in my own room! To whom and what am I trying to explain, Seyro sighs, iyi geceler (good night). She tucks herself into bed.

Ferit approaches and leans over the bed. It’s a big bed… I could sleep on the edge. He tries to settle in. She immediately wallops him with her pillow. Good night! He smiles and takes a pillow. She settles back and he gives her a dirty look.

Asuman is looking at her tablet in bed. Fuat gets in next to her. What are you looking at? I’m just reading, she says. Okay, it’s time to sleep, he tells her, the light is bothering me. Okay, wait a minute, she replies. He grabs the tablet. Adoption information. What is this, he asks. She says she was just looking. He asks, did someone say something to you? No, she answers, I just talked to Ifakat. Ha, Fuat knows yenge well. He says, you’re vulnerable and she’s getting inside your head.

No, Asuman says, she’s trying to be supportive. She’s childless too, and alone. Fuat notes that Ifakat chose to be alone after her husband died. And we’re doomed to be just like her, Asuman laments, and it’s my fault. She turns away from him. He feels bad. Asuman… Asuman? He cuddles up behind her. It’s normal to feel anxious, but I’m here for you. We’ll never be alone. He gives her a little kiss… I love you very much.

Abidin cheerfully greets Ferit in the morning, oha, günaydın, my dear Ferit bey. How are you? Ferit is stretching out the kinks from sleeping on the couch. He answers, everything hurts. Abi laughs, it’s normal. No, it’s not like that, Ferit answers, it’s still the same. Don’t worry, it will happen over time, Abi tells him. Let’s just go, Ferit says. What’s wrong, Abi asks, do you miss the armless master? You adapted quickly, well done.

No, Ferit says, I have other plans for today. Grandpa can’t know. Is it a problem with the master, Abi asks. No, I barely speak to the man, Ferit replies. Bring this… take this… clean this… That’s it. Abi says I told you so. Try harder. Make your grandpa proud. I’m trying, Ferit says, you have no idea. I need to get rid of this apprentice job or I’ll lose my mind. All I do is sweep the workshop and then he makes me sweep outside, too. Abidin is amused.

Asuman, Fuat and Gulgun get in their car. Halis and Latif watch from the window. Latif says, with God’s grace, she will recover quickly. Of course, Halis says, but it’s hard not to be able to have children. She never spoke to me about it. She didn’t consider my thoughts or feelings.

Halis looks at a photo of Asuman and Fuat on their wedding day. He continues, [From the Turkish] being the patriarch of the family, I could send her away because she cannot continue my line. What a shame. Latif says she might be too embarrassed to speak with him. Halis suggests going to the shore later, and then they can stop at the armless master to see how Ferit is doing.

Seyran is still sleeping when she gets a call from Ferit. Ohaa, you’re still asleep? She panics. You said breakfast was canceled. I didn’t set my alarm. No, it’s not that he says, come to the front door, don’t let anyone see you. I’ll be waiting. She asks why. He gets annoyed—can you just do as I say for once, sister? Seyro replies, sister? Can you speak nicely? Ferit sighs and gets cute, sevgili karıcığım, I wonder, could you please come to meet me at the front door? Was that better? I’ll be waiting.

Seyran exits the front gate. Ferit is there in his car and motions to her to get in. Where are we going, she asks. To your mother, he says. Is this a joke, she answers back, I’ll kill you. Why would I joke, he asks, I have the car and Abidin sent me the address. What did I tell you? You should have come to me, and not the others. She’s surprised. He gives her a simit and she takes it.

What about work, Seyran asks. Ferit says he called in sick. She thinks he shouldn’t have lied. He says the master would be okay with it if he knew the situation. But since we don’t talk about things… Seyro tells Ferit he can drop her off and then go to work. Tell him you’re feeling better. No, I want to go with you, he says. Right, she replies, you want information to use against me later. Ferit denies this. Your family is my family. Your mom is my mom. Your sister is my sister.

Seyran says she’s changed her mind—let’s go back. Don’t be ridiculous, Ferit replies, we need to smooth things over. It has to happen sooner or later. Besides, I won’t let people say I sent my wife by herself. I gave you my word and I intend to keep it. Don’t forget, I’m Ferit Korhan. You’ll have to take that into account. They both laugh. Okay, Ferit Korhan, she says, I’ll let my mother know.

Asuman waits for her surgery. Gulgun holds her hand. Fuat can’t deal with it any longer. He leaves the room and breaks down at the end of the hallway.

#10 part 5

Seyfer gets to the building. Seyran can’t picture her mother or aunt living here. Ferit says, your dad wanted this. She says, he only cared about himself as usual. He left early in the morning. She rings the bell. Mother and child reunion. They embrace. They missed each other so much. They head inside. Seyran looks all around, wide-eyed.

Hattuc is there. She welcomes Ferit. Seyran and Ferit kiss her hand. Hattuc asks Seyran, how are you? Does he treat you well? I’m okay, Seyro answers. Where’s my sister? Suna comes from the kitchen and the sisters hug. Suna welcomes Ferit. It’s a bit uncomfortable.

Seyran tells Ferit she wants to talk to her mom and sister for a bit and leaves him with Hattuc. Hattuc reminds them of their manners. First ask him (Ferit) if he wants something to eat or drink. Ferit says it’s not necessary. I’m good, thanks. He tells Seyran to go.

Ferit and Hattuc sit. He asks for Kazim. Hattuc says that Kazim loves the big city and went for a walk. And how are you, Ferit asks. Much better than you, she replies, we didn’t know you were sick. Geçmiş olsun.

Ferit is taken aback for a second. He thanks her and says, it’s my blood sugar levels… but someone of your age must know more than me about sickness. No, my son, she says, I’ve seen so few doctors in my lifetime. My body is healthy, as is my soul, thank God. Mashallah, mashallah, Ferit replies, I get the feeling you’ll bury us all. Feelings never fail, she says.

The Sanli ladies are overjoyed to be with each other again. Seyran wants to know why they came. Esme explains, people kept gossiping. They said the Korhans didn’t like Suna, so they took you instead. Seyro tries to downplay it. We knew this would happen. Suna sadly adds, but now they are questioning my purity. So, you see why we’re here? Dad was so ashamed, he couldn’t leave the house. Esme says let’s go back inside. I don’t want to be rude to Ferit.

Seyran holds her hand out to Suna, let’s go, sister. Esme says it would be better for Suna to stay behind. It wouldn’t be appropriate. Seyran questions this. Suna has nothing to be ashamed of. Please come with me. Suna reluctantly takes her hand.

Hattuc tells Ferit she would never trade Antep for Istanbul. I hope we go back soon. Esme feels a pain in her stomach. She didn’t take her medicine. Suna says she’ll go get it. Seyran wants her mom to see a doctor. Hattuc thinks the pain is just stress related. So much has happened, thank God we haven’t ended up in the hospital.

#10 part 6

Ferit comments, speaking of hospitals, should we go? We need to go. Hattuc is sorry they have someone sick. She sends her get well wishes. Seyran says they can go as soon as Suna returns. Ferit asks to use the bathroom. He sees Suna on the way.

Wait, Suna, he says. I was actually looking for you. She’s nervous—why? I owe you an apology, he says, I don’t want any issues between us. You don’t have to apologize, she replies, I was clumsy, I spilled the coffee. It was fate. Ferit tells her the coffee had nothing to do with it. The truth is, when I saw Seyran again… that’s why it happened. Suna is surprised.

You saw her again, Suna asks. Ferit explains, we met before at the baklavaci. We even had a minor argument. Didn’t she tell you? Suna tries to cover… uh… she told me. I thought you were talking about something else. Anyway, it’s okay, you don’t need to apologize. Ferit is relieved. See you later. Suna is very upset to learn this.

Halis and Latif arrive at the workshop area. A man approaches Latif. What are you doing here? We haven’t seen you in a while. I’ve been busy, Latif replies. The man says, I stopped at your store recently and sent my regards, did they tell you? Yes, yes, Latif quietly answers, we’ll talk later, selametle (go in peace). He hurries off to catch up with Halis.

Necip welcomes Halis. Halis stops him from kissing his hand this time. He welcomes Latif saying, mashallah, you haven’t changed at all. Estağfirullah, Latif replies, that’s just the beauty of your eyes, master. Do I still have my eyes, Necip asks. He hands a piece of jewelry to Latif, who hands it to Halis. Halis asks for a loupe and inspects the stone. He smiles.

Necip comes over. Ferit selected this stone. None of the designers or managers could see it. Not even Orhan or Fuat. Halis is pleased. Is that why you didn’t send him back? Are you softening up like me? Necip gives a rare smile. We’ll have to see whether it’s talent or an accident. Let him recover first. He sounded sick over the phone.

Halis silently fumes and answers, he’s a little sick, yes. Halis asks Latif to get tea. He turns back to Necip, and since we are here, let’s look at the rest of the collection. [And let’s see what awaits Ferit after this.]

And we are out.

Great summary, Dondi! I’ll do #11 tomorrow night or Tuesday morning.

The interaction among Halis, Necip, Latif, and Ferit is interesting.

The importance of who should visit whom and in which order is fascinating. The intricacies of being on top are complex. I wonder what might have happened if Abi and Ferit had taken her to meet her parents. Abi might have gotten in trouble.

It was funny when Kazim told Esme she can really look down on others from their tall apartment!

I guess Suna will feel betrayed by Seyran for not telling about meeting Ferit. But she didn’t know he was Ferit until the wedding. Was there time afterwards? Anyway, hopefully they can iron out any wrinkles between the sisters, always so close up til now.

Thanks again!

Babachita, thanks for your comments and for volunteering for #11. I'll take #12.

Ferit’s interaction with everyone is interesting. MRD plays him so well.

Kazim is a fascinating character to me. He’s an abuser, but he can be amusing because he’s such a fool. I love the music they play for him when he’s being a fool. It fits.
