Duelo--Monday July 9--Ay! Me Duele!!! It’s my last Duelo recap!!

[Yes, indeed, folks. I did the first recap and I should have been recapping the finale a week from today but long held plans to travel to a family reunion on the West Coast and Univision’s screwy scheduling got in the way. I’ll be watching the Duelo finale a few days after it happens while Sylvia does the honors. It’s been a blast. Thanks, blogmamamelinama and all the rest of you guys. I'm afraid to do a list because I don't want to forget anyone! Gracias a todos. After Duelo, I’m taking a break from recapping. I’ll probably be watching (and commenting on) Amar Sin Limites and will apply to recap in the fall, for Pasiones as aregular or substitute recapper. I know there’s already a line around the block for that one…

This novela has been a real stinkeroo at times—violent, hopeless, retrograde, with over the top machismo and unbelievably wooden and pathetic characters. Still there were some highlights—Tonkey of course but also Ana Martin, (Luba) who I am convinced, could save any show. Sergio Goytri has also chewed up the scenery and has done yeoman’s work as Don Loco. Intocable—well--it looks like at least he had fun. If we needed any confirmation of how awful this novela has been for the staff, we’ve gotten it in that they’ve killed off roughly 30 characters and made about half a dozen more just disappear from the scene. Oh, and they actually substituted a couple of important roles with different actors. Rats fleeing the sinking ship, indeed. In real life, I don’t think Pablo or Ludovika will remember this job fondly since they had a flaming affair that ended badly with Ludovika now claiming in the tabloids that not only has she gone back to her husband but she’s giving up acting for awhile for the sake of her family. Yes, folks, this may be the show that ENDED her acting career! There may be an actual witch’s curse on this thing. But no matter—on with the show!]

We open to the touching parting scene between Luba and Raquel where Luba says nice things about her and her babies and Raquel tells Luba that she’s a good person.

Meanwhile, over in Floodlandia, Rodrigo enters his tent and Frank is there and stands to attention. He tells Rodrigo everything’s fine—there’s just one little thing he wants to clear up. Rodrigo says, “Oh, yeah, you must be referring to what happened between Karla and Captain Valtierra. Frank looks uncomfortable. Just then we get a glimpse of Alina poking her nurse’s hat into the tent. Rod states loudly that to him it is abundantly clear that Karla and Captain Valtierra spent the night together in his tent. Alina, behind him stops dead in her tracks after hearing this. Rod is indignant. He sarcastically remarks that Captain Valtierra is pretty slick to get Frank to cover for him but “You can’t fool me Sergeant!” he bellows to Frank. Rod goes on to say that he’s sure that Frank was told to do by Emilio to cover for his Captain because Alina’s back. Frank tries to protest that nobody told him to say anything but Rod isn’t buying it. Alina silently bursts into tears behind the curtain and runs away.

At Rodrigo’s apartment in Puebla, Gaby is hyperventilating. Tina asks her what’s wrong and Gaby tells her she doesn’t want to go outside or anywhere. She’s terrified that “the woman” will kill her. Tina tries to comfort her. She takes the little girl’s hands and sees that the nails are bleeding. She’s been chewing on her fingernails to the quick. Tina is shocked and hugs the little girl, who curls up in a fetal position against her.

Alina runs crying into the nurses’ tent. Valentina sees her and asks her if Rodrigo was a jerk about her getting back with Emilio. Alina says no, she just overheard a conversation between Rodrigo and Frank. Emilio had an affair with Karla. She bursts into tears again. Boo Hoo!

Back to Puebla—Don Loco, in his striped cap, bum’s attire and big silver revolver is still lurking around Coral’s house. The doorbell rings and Adela comes running. Don Loco hides behind a sofa. The guest is the Prosecutor Vargas who says he’s just stopping by to ask if she has heard from Soledad and she tells him no. And once again, with the “no news is good news” thing. Vargas says that he talked to Elias the other day and told him about the other killings. He says that it’s great that Don Loco doesn’t know and will never guess where they are. Don Loco thought bubbles behind the couch about how much he wants to kill Elias for stealing his woman.

Back to the big boohoo with Alina. Valentina tries to comfort her, to suggest that maybe she heard wrong. Alina is sure she heard right. What’s more, now she has an explanation for why Karla was such a bitch to her when she showed up. She was Emilio’s new squeeze and Emilio probably told her to beat it when Alina showed up. Also, Rodrigo’s coy remarks about her making a mistake in choosing Emilio now made sense. When she had asked him to explain, he had simply told her to ask Emilio. Valentina, the level headed one, tells her she should go ask Emilio for an explanation. Alina agrees and leaves. Valentina says to no one in particular that Alina sure has it rough. Fate is set against her and Emilio getting together.

Zipping over to Puebla, we are in Coral’s boutique. Who should come flying in the door but Claudia’s mom. Claudia is impactada but not for long because her mom starts in on a big rant about how she is ashamed of her daughter. She can’t believe that she spent the night away from home. Claudia tries to defend herself , telling her that she sent Angel to tell her that she was spending the night with a friend. Mom doesn’t buy it. She’s sure that she spent the night with Angel. Claudia shakes her head with a look of sadness and fear.

Over to Sierra Escondida—Rancho Viejo. It looks like Luba’s threats have worked. The workers are back on the job and seem to be happy about it. Luba and Gaspar and heading out. Gaspar is excited to go see his cub. Luba says goodbye to Raquel and gives her her huge stone neckace. The one that she always wears. Uh oh. Foreshadowing? Tears and smiles. Orlando rides up and they part. Luba is concerned that there may be La Rinconada folk lurking around but Orlando says no.

Back to the big blowout between Claudia and her Mom. Mom once again accuses her of trying to seduce Rosendo and Claudia once again tries to explain to Mom that Rosendo is a creep who exploits them. Claudia says that as long is Rosendo is there, she’s not going home. Mom goes all twitchy bitchy and starts screaming that Rosendo is her man and that no one is going to steal him from her. “So you choose him over me?” says Claudia. “At least he respects me” says Mom. “And if you don’t return to live under my roof, like a decent girl, you can forget that I’m your mother.” Claudia is impactada.

Vargas is taking leave and tells Adela to call him if Coral hears from Soledad. All of the sudden, TONKEY bursts in. (Where have you been, big fella!!) He immediately gets a whiff of eau de bum and runs over to where Don Loco is hiding behind the couch. Although Adela is perplexed, it takes only a few seconds for Vargas to realize that there could be an intruder hiding there and apparently prosecutors in Mexico conceal-carry. He whips out a small pistol and carefully approaches the couch. We go to commercial. When we come back, we are disappointed to see that Vargas has DL’s scuzzy jacket in one hand. Adela and Vargas accuse Tonkey of having dragged it in from the street or the trash. Poor Tonkey! A misunderstood hero!!! Vargas reholsters his weapon and accompanies Adela out the door, followed by Tonkey who is jumping for the jacket. They must have put a steak in the sleeve. After they leave the room, DL peers out behind a curtain, gun in hand. A close shave for DL.

Back to the mother-daughter bust up between Claudia and her mom. Claudia is crying and tries to tell mom that she’s afraid to return home to the neighborhood, because that bastard Rosendo…every time you aren’t around…” Mom interrupts her. She won’t listen. “Rosendo is incapable of doing anything bad to you.” Then she lays on the guilt. “If you really loved me, you’d come home right now!” Just then Coral, looking stylish in a black ensemble comes into the boutique. “Claudia is not going anywhere!” she announces. Claudia’s mom tries to bully Coral by telling her to butt out. Coral has none of it. She insists that Claudia isn’t going back home where that husband of hers is. Claudia looks torn. Please no, she’s not going home is she????

Back to floodlandia. The nurses are treating patients in the hospital tent . Karla is there working in the background. Valentina comes in and tells the nurses to make ready the dirty sheets for collection. She asks for some nurses to come with her to check on some patients in another tent. As soon as they leave, Karla runs over and takes a sheet from the contaminated sheet bag and runs out of the tent with it.

Back to Mother and Daughter fight, now featuring Coral! Mom again tells her that their dispute is none of her business. Mom grabs Claudia by the arm and tries to drag her out of the store. Coral runs to the door and slams it. Mom tells Coral that she probably has only heard the lies that “this brat” has told her about Rosendo. Coral pleads with her to listen to her own daughter. Mom says that Claudia is not her daughter. She’s an ingrate who is looking to steal her husband. [Give it up, lady! Either she’s hot for Angel or for your husband. Which is it?] Claudia crumbles. She’s going to go home with her mom. Coral can’t believe it and neither can we. Oh, yes we can. This is Duelo de Pasiones, where people do the exact wrong thing all the time, just to torment us. She thanks Coral and tells her to tell Angel not to come after her. Mom grabs Claudia and leaves.

Next we’re back in Sierra Escondida. We get a quick update from La Rinconda. Ifigenio comes into the kitchen and is giving the news to Vera. Santos’ mom is still really sick so he won’t be making an appearance anytime soon. But Don Braulio (remember him? Rosita’s dad?) He’s been cleared of the charges of killing Castulo and will be released from jail soon in time for the Gran Final. I guess he gave up trying to find work on another novela. Don Braulio will be the new administrator! Ifigenio goes off to work. Thelma comes in her negligee and asks Vera where Orlando is. Vera nervously tells her that he left really early “to check on some things dealing with the new highway that they are about to finish.” Vera asks her if she wants breakfast but Thelma asks for Coffee and absently picks up a piece of fruit and craftily asks why the people of the mountain are so unfair to let Luba and her son escape justice after they killed Flor. Vera tells her that they tried but Luba and Gaspar escaped. “Don’t worry, Senora, says Vera. When we find them, we’ll lynch them” finishes Vera.

Over in Floodlandia, Karla is busy making sure that the contaminated sheet makes it on to Alina’s cot.

Back to SE—Raquel is cleaning up. She goes up to evil Hernan and tells him that she wants to speak to the parties interested in buying the Ranch. He tells her that the buyers didn’t want to meet with the owner, only with a go-between…him. Raquel tells him she’s on to him. HE’s the interested buyer. What’s more, she calls over Fidencio who is now a loyal worker and gets him to admit that Hernan paid them to go on strike. I guess that there was one worker who was paid way too much at Rancho Viejo if he had enough to bribe the entire crew. Now his ass is fired!!! She tells him to beat it. He threatens her and she threatens him right back. He leaves.

Back to Floodlandia again! Emilio is talking to someone on a walkie-talkie. He’s confirming plans to check on a bridge. Over and out. He gets up to leave and Alina drops in, with furrowed brow, hands in tiny nurse pockets. Emilio pinches her chin and says that he’s glad to see her, he’s headed out. Alina tells him she wants him to tell her about what happened before she arrived. “What do you want to know? asks Emilio. “Is it true that Karla spent the night with you in your tent?” Ooooh. Superslomo impacado into a commercial time for Emilio. Emilio himself of course merely looks constipated. Our transition to the commercial features Alina in her pink dress throwing a hissy fit over one of any number of a million slights of Emilio’s back when she was living in the cave with Luba. Luba tries to comfort her, maternally.

Emilio doesn’t take the right approach. He starts in with “Who told you that?” and then goes into complicated explanation mode. Alina doesn’t like this one bit and says “So it’s true?!” Emilio tries to explain but Alina goes on a rant about how she gave it up for him and let her think that he was in love with her. Emilio tries again to explain and Alina won’t let up. She’s not listening. “You deceived me!” Emilio stops her and says “I did not deceive you!” Finally he gets it out that Karla slept in his tent but he slept in a chair. “Then why did she treat me so badly?” asks Alina. “because she heard me speak your name and she was jealous” says Emilio finally. He grabs her face in an effort to shut her up. “You can’t doubt me, my love, not after what happened last night.” Alina relents somewhat and says that she’s confused. She doesn’t know what to think. She walks out and tells him she needs to be alone to think. Just then, Karla shows up and makes a catty comment about how now Alina knows “everything.” Emilio is ticked and asks her what she means. Karla says that “now that you two are going to be together, it’s better that you not have any secrets—that she know that you and I had an affair.” It’s Alina’s turn to be ticked. “How could you do this to me?” She wails.

Back in SE, Orlando arrives at his cabin with Luba. It turns out he can’t go to Puebla right away. He’s got to wait until the engineers finish up with the highway! Luba can’t believe that he was in such a rush to get them away from Rancho Viejo when they now have to stick around in SE which is dangerous for both her and her son. Orlando tells them unconvincingly that he will take care of them. He gives them a walkie-talkie. Luba looks skeptical. Yeah, I would be too.

Back to the latest bustup between Emilio and Alina. Karla pretends to be offended that Emilio would deny their roll in the hay. Alina stalks off. Karla says that Alina is a cry-baby if she can’t take a joke. Emilio is furious (I would guess) and tells her that the joke was in poor taste. Emilio tells her that she’d better go and tell Alina the truth and apologize. Karla pouts and smiles slyly.

Meanwhile, Angel has arrived on his daily visit to Claudia at Coral’s boutique. Coral greets him and when he asks about Coral, she gingerly tells him what happened, with the scene earlier between Claudia and her mom and that Mom took Claudia home. Angel is impactado.

Alina is sitting on her bed (with the blanket between her and the dirty sheet) and crying. Valentina comes in and she tells her what happened. “But you aren’t going to believe that sangrona (creep?).” Valentina tells her that if she loves Emilio, she’s got to believe him. Besides, why would Emilio be with a bitch like Karla if he was in love with her (Alina)? [Not exactly what she said but you get the drift…] Alina goes into her “woe is me, the world is trying to separate us” dirge and Valentina urges her to fight for her love.

Emilio and Karla are still having it out. Karla tells him that she’s not going to apologize to his dopey girlfriend. Emilio tells her she’d better or else…he grabs her hard by the arm and accuses her of stirring up this whole mess by telling Alina that they spent the night together. Karla says (truthfully) that she never told her. Yeah, well, half the camp saw her come out of Emilio’s tent wrapped only in a towel and she made sure of that. Karla tells her she’ll tell Alina the truth…when she damn well pleases. She stalks off. Emilio swears under his breath.

Commercial, a great new transition with Coral dancing. And we’re with Coral and Angel. Coral tells Angel about how Claudia’s mom basically blackmailed her into returning home. Coral sighs and says it’s obvious that Claudia caved under that kind of pressure and that she made the wrong decision. “Can you imagine what awaits her at home with that monster of a step-father?” At this, Angel gets up and says he’ll kill Rosendo if he does anything to Claudia. Coral warns him not to do anything stupid and Angel assures her that he won’t.

Don Loco shows up at Elias’ place. I always liked the furnishings at that place. Blanca had good taste in home décor even if she had questionable judgement in marrying Elias when he so obviously had the hots for someone else. Elias’ house is still perfectly kept but apparently nobody bothered to lock up or watch the place because DL is there, looking dirty and out of place, shouting and waving a gun around. All of the sudden, he sees Soledad. Soledad tells him to stop looking for her. She’s found her happiness with Elias. DL yells angrily that he won’t let her be with that traitor. Soledad tells him it’s too late, she and Elias have been doin’ the wild thing from the moment DL was locked up in jail. While it’s true that all of his accusations about her infidelity were false, now they have become true. She’s been enjoying the lovin’ she’s been getting from the studly Elias. OK, I threw in the studly part, she doesn’t go that far. Don Loco starts screaming at her to shut up. He’s kneeling on the ground and Soledad encircles him, taunting him about how she’s getting her revenge now, making him feel lower than the dirt, just like he did to her. He almost, but not, quite points the gun at his own head. Yes, my friends, this is another Don Loco (trademark) hallucination. He turns around and she’s gone.

Meanwhile, the real Soledad is taking a walk with Elias in San Mateo, followed by a policeman in a dress uniform. Elias is remarking about how someday they’ll be free and happy. Don Loco will be in jail and they’ll be able to enjoy themselves. Soledad agrees. Again, Elias announces that DL will NEVER look for them in San Mateo!!

Back to Floodlandia. Emilio shows up at the bridge where Rodrigo is directing a bunch of soldiers to place sandbags on an embankment. Rodrigo says snidely, “Finally you show up for work.” [I gotta say, old Rod has a point here. People are losing their homes, getting sick, drowning and dying in this God forsaken place. Meanwhile, Alina and Emilio are spending their time, alternately mooning over and fighting with eachother. Karla is spending all her time thinking of and executing plans to kill Alina. The practical Valentina is completely absorbed with Alina’s problems. Even Frank is worried about messing up his Captain’s love life. If I were the people in this village I would tell all these people to drop off the food, medicine and sandbags and then get the hell away from me.] Rod is snarky. Emilio gets all in his face accusing him of telling Alina he slept with Karla.

Back to Alina and Valentina in their tent. Alina isn’t feeling so hot. Valentina urges her to lie down. Looks like Karla’s plan is working.

Emilio and Rod shout insults at eachother. It soon turns to blows. Rod isn’t winning but a bunch of soldiers show up and pull them apart. Karla shows up and looks surprised.

In Puebla, Coral has just made another sale to a happy customer in the boutique. Tina arrives to ask her if she has looked into the possibility of Thelma being Gaby’s kidnapper. They discuss the possibilities. On the one hand, the calls have stopped now that Thelma is out of town. On the other, Coral talked to the SA who swears Thelma had nothing to do with it. Coral thinks the SA is basically a good person and wouldn’t lie to her. Tina isn’t sure about that, after all, she’s her Aunt. Tina tells Coral that Gaby is doing really badly and she begs Coral to get to the bottom of this.

DL is still at Elias’ house. His dirty bum costume is probably making a stain on that nice couch. He’s wondering aloud where Elias and Soledad can be. Suddenly, he says to himself he knows who can tell him where they are. He gets up and leaves.

Back to Tina and Coral. Tina is crying, overwhelmed by how bad things have gotten with Gaby. Coral advises her to take the child to a psychologist. Tina brightens, and says she knows a really great psychologist who lives right next door. Yes, it’s Doctora Loca to the rescue!

Back to the big fight next to the flooding river. As I said, Rodrigo looks like he would have been the loser in this fight. The soldiers are trying to keep the two men apart while they hurl insults at eachother. Frank defends Emilio and says that he has no right to accuse him of what he has no knowledge of. The two men break free briefly and start fighting again. Karla comes up and suddenly decides to come clean. “Emilio is telling the truth, she yells. Nothing happened between us.” Impactada looks all around.

Back in Alina’s tent, she’s not looking so good as Karla’s plan B is well underway. Alina is sweating and feverish. Valentina comes over and sees that she’s sick.
Rodrigo apologizes. Emilio accepts the apology with a handshake and thanks Karla for finally stepping up. Rodrigo tells her that she’d better tell Alina the truth too. Karla agrees this time. Emilio tells Rodrigo that he understands why he reacted the way he did, that “any man in love” would have acted the same way. Besides, he was looking out for Alina which is a good thing too. Karla touches Emilio’s face and asks him to let her fix him up. Emilio grabs her hand and pushes it away, saying “Alina will do it.” As things are cooling down, Valentina rushes up to tell all the assembled soldiers and Karla that Alina is very sick.

Back in Puebla, Coral is arranging things in the boutique. Coral has her back to the door when Don Loco comes in. At first she thinks he’s just an old bum and she offers him clothes. Then she recognizes him and he recognizes her as the dancer from Edelmira’s. Coral’s eyes get big.

Everyone rushes over to the hospital tent where alina lies stricken in a bed like any other patient. Valentina tells them that she has all the symptoms of the rotavirus. Rodrigo is incredulous. “How can this be? All the volunteers have been vaccinated and take precautions with masks and gloves.” Karla bitchily (without her mask on) says that no doubt Alina made mistakes because she was such an inexperienced volunteer and that she was right all along for trying to exclude her. Valentina takes umbrage at this but Emilio tells them that now is not the time for arguing. Emilio and Rodrigo are both squatting next to her cot, one on either side. Emilio starts to explain the whole story about the Karla gossip but Rodrigo suggests that now is not a great time since she’s so weak. Emilio agrees. He starts to move away when Alina grabs his hand and tells him to stay. She believes him and she feels better with him near. She knows he never deceived her. Rodrigo looks unhappy-impactado although it’s hard to tell with a mask covering half his face.

Next time: It sucks to be Claudia. Rosenda strangles her until she passes out and then lays her out on a bed like he intends to rape her while she’s unconscious. It also sucks to be Coral, who is going to have to try to escape the homicidal maniac Don Loco while not revealing Soledad’s location. For the finale--It also sucks to be Alina who may or may not be hallucinating about being buried alive again. As was noted earlier, Gaspar and Luba run into problems too.

Duelo July 6 - Luba can be real witch when she wants to be

As I mentioned in the comments to Thursday’s episode, Emiliooo is so romantic and full of love for Alina that he doesn’t even talk to her once they are alone, he goes straight for her zipper and her boobs. I’m sure women love that. “We’re alone set those babies free.” So romantic, right? Alina appears to be ready to finally give it up too. They end up in bed, after they are finally naked he finally says something, that they are more together than ever and no one can separate them.

Rodrigo admits to Karla that he and Alina had been engaged, now she understands the strange behavior between the two big dogs. The boss nurse Valentina comes in to inform them that Emiliooo left for supplies, and there was some local with ‘them.’ Karla wants to know who ‘them’ is, Valentina tells them that Alina was there too. Karla gets a grouchy look on her face. She just doesn’t get it, does she? She’s like the female Elias, just ignore reality and doggedly pursue whoever it is you set your sights on. In Elias’s case, for some reason, it worked. Conveniently his rival was a complete nutjob. I guess that could work out for Karla too, but she hasn’t seen the commercials that the Gran Final is approaching, or she would understand that she doesn’t have enough time to work the deal.

Coral refers to Thelma as a viper again. They (Coral, Angel, Claudia, Tina) try to figure out how/why Thelma would have kidnapped Gaby. Even with the knowledge of her demand that Rodrigo marry Alina and move away, this brain trust can’t figure out how Thelma fits in. DUHHHH. I don’t know how it could be any clearer. Whatever. Coral has a plan – they’ll go play a trick on Thelma. We don’t get the details.

Orlando wonders why Thelma is in SE when she hates it so much. She tells him not to play dumb, he knows why, Orlando deduces that it has to do with getting rid of Luba and Gaspar. He tells her that those two are on the run from the law, they are suspected of being involved with Alina’s death. Thelma thought bubbles that nobody knows that Alina is alive! Orlando gets Vera to support his story, that NOBODY knows where Luba and Gaspar are. I guess he wants to save them for himself, at least he doesn’t want Thelma to find them.

Elias rushes in and wakes up Soledad, there is a cop with them. Don Loco comes in and shoots the cop, then turns his gun on Elias, who is trying to protect Soledad by standing in front of her. DL has a big gun, I think it would go right through both of them.

Commercial – Asi es la Vida has given up all pretense of being more than a booty show, the commercial advertises ‘sexier than ever’ and is about 30 seconds of women’s butts shaking for the camera. There’s even a bikini car wash. I would bet that this show gets more male viewers than any of the novelas. I haven’t ever actually watched the show, but I’m guessing many men do.

Back to the show – DL shoots Elias twice, his body succeeds in stopping the bullets after all, Soledad is fine. Until DL shoots her too.

Yes, readers, it was a dream. Soledad wakes up screaming and turns on the light so we can see the anguish on her face, even though she is alone in the room. Do any of you automatically turn on the light every time you wake up at night? I, for one, would get a quick kick from the other side of the bed if I did that. Soledad is alone at the moment (I’m sure Elias wishes otherwise) so I guess nobody will complain about the light. I’ve noticed this on every TV show, I know we need light for the TV camera, but for some reason it still always gets my attention.

Vera tells Thelma that Luba stole Alina’s body from the tomb. Thelma says she wants to discuss all this with Orlando later. Thelma leaves, Orlando thought bubbles curses at her for showing up right now, at this inconvenient time.

Elias and the guard come into the room in response to Soledad’s scream. She whines and worries, Elias tells her everything will be fine.

Gaspar yells ‘Mama……MAMA” It reminds me of my own little boy, he still hasn’t figured out at age 7 that if nobody answers, go looking for them, don’t just sit on the couch and yell louder. Luba answers, Gaspar asks if she’s sleeping. She said she WAS, why did he wake her up? He says he can’t sleep. He’s excited to see his baby. She says Emiliooo won’t believe he’s the father, Gaspar says yes, Orlando will tell him it’s true. Luba starts rambling on about Raquel and everything going on there.

Vera brings Orlando coffee and tells him she is bothered that she had to lie to Thelma. She sure didn’t mind lying to Orlando earlier. He threatens her, and Mexican Larry too when he returns, with great harm if anyone tells anyone else where Luba and Gaspar really are. Ifignenio comes in after Orlando leaves, Vera tells him that something strange is going on, and boo hoo she’s there all alone without Mexican Larry and Santos.

At the Devil’s Cave, Adela wants to know why Coral brought her here. One of the girls working there is sooo excited to see Coral, like, ohmygod! Coral says they are there to relax, then she says she misses the dancing, the lights, the applause, hmmm I think she’s going to find an excuse to get up and dance, which of course they won’t show, like every other time. The friend announces to the crowd “Look who’s here – La Coral! Do you want her to dance?” Everyone applauds. Coral claims to not be prepared for that. Right. I’m sure she’ll just take off whatever she’s wearing and magically have something under it to dance in.

Rodrigo asks Valentina for news of Emiliooo, nobody has heard anything. They are all starting to worry. Rodrigo decides to get a couple guys and go look for them. Rodrigo has been such a peeping tom/eavesdropper lately, I expect to see him shortly watching Emliooo and Alina get busy through a window. Valentina calls out Karla on the fact that she’s all agitated by Emiliooo and Alina being together.

Rodrigo and his guys, who look like they should be at a Cub Scout campout, not in the army, find the jeep already. That took like 30 seconds. They determine that there was a mechanical problem, then immediately spot the cabin in the distance. They head over there.

Emiliooo and Alina are laying in bed naked, we see flashlights outside the window. HA – I was right – Rodrigo sees them through the window, in bed, and decides not to bother them and head back to camp. So he has gotten the double whammy now – Alina wouldn’t marry him, and she put out for this other guy like two days later. That’s an extra kick in the nads. I know he’s a big dummy but I feel bad for him. He just fell for the wrong woman, who didn’t help by stringing him along until the very last moment. Inside, Emiliooo is laying almost on top of Alina, I’m sure she’s real comfortable like that.

The Olarte/Panama Army General guy (I can’t remember his name here) runs into Luba, who is playing with her knife. He is scared of her, but she wants to talk to him. She tries to scare him into coming back to work. He says no, then she tells him to feel bad for a woman who lost her man and is now expecting twins. The guy says she should sell the ranch then, but Luba flicks his hat with the knife and says that isn’t going to happen. The ranch is all she has. She says she’s going to put a curse on him and his family if he doesn’t go back to work.

Valentina and Karla find Rodrigo and want to know what he found. He says he found them asleep, he figured they were tired, so he left them alone. Karla tries to get more out of him but he won’t answer, he leaves to go check out the camp, etc. Valentina is very pleased at Karla’s irritation over the Emiliooo/Alina nookie news. It wasn’t said out loud, but everyone knew what Rodrigo found.

Singing aunt runs into a room where Angel is reading. He wants to know where Thelma is. SA says she’s in Mexico buying things for the baby, Angel makes a comment something like she might consider the baby itself more than leaving it here and going shopping for it. SA thinks she’ll be back in a few days.

The guy begs Luba not to curse him. He finally agrees to return to work to prevent it. I think he’s supposed to get everyone back to work too. She really scares him, when he leaves she’s quite proud of herself.

Orlando leaves, Vera talks to herself about what he might be up to. She finally convinces herself that Orlando is going to avenge Alina’s death, since they were so in love before and everything. What a dummy.

Creepy Rosendo wants to know why Claudia didn’t come home last night. The mother says she was with a friend. Roseno is mad, but the mom says she thought it was ok, she doesn’t want any more trouble. She is clearly intimidated by Rosendo. To appease him, she swears that she’ll find Claudia and get her to return home.

Karla tends to the sick, Alina enters with the medicine. She is in a great mood, which does not escape the notice of Valentina. Alina kisses and tells, she immediately tells her all the details. She tells how wonderful Emiliooo is, blah blah blah. She left out the part where as soon as they were alone he lunged for her chest. Sorry to keep going back to that, it’s just such a tacky move. Valentina is soooo happy for Alina, she isn’t even upset that they had to wait an extra day for medicine just so Alina could get her groove on. Karla approaches and tries to give her a cup of water, which Alina declines, Karla then tries to tell her how she wants to be friends. I suspect the water was the same cup that one of the patients drank from, there was ominous music when she held up the cup. She’s vicious, trying to infect Alina! At least that’s more subtle than poison. Karla apologizes sort of for being bad with her before, Valentina says “yes, we can agree on that.” Alina the dummy accepts her offer of friendship and the water. More ominous music as she gulps down the drink.

Rodrigo talks to Emiliooo, who seems to become addicted to cigars. He’s washing his face and smoking at the same time. The cigars give him a Don Loco look, I’m not sure that’s what he’s going for. He tells Rodrigo that they spent the night at a cabin. Rodrigo tells him that he saw everything. Emiliooo is impactado.

Raquel is pleased that Luba convinced the workers to come back. Luba tries to warn her about Hernan, that he’s evil and a liar. Raquel says she’ll have a serious talk with him.

Emiliooo says so what? Rodrigo wants a favor. He wants Emiliooo to not play with Alina. Emiliooo says he won’t, he really loves her. Rodrigo says if he hurts her, he’s going to have a big problem.

Claudia runs out of the house to open the store. Outside the doorbell for the front gate rings and when she opens the door, it’s Don Loco wearing a goofy stocking cap, trying to look like a thug or something. It’s a very very strange look. I guess he’s trying to sneak into the house and find Soledad. He looks like he’s on drugs or something.

At Thelma’s house, Coral storms in and tells SA that she wants to speak with Thelma. SA says she isn’t there. Coral says she won’t leave without speaking to her. She says she wants to know why Thelma kidnapped the daughter of Captain Ochoa. SA is impactada.

I guess DL is going for ‘street bum.’ He asks if he can get something to eat, Claudia stupidly says she’ll get him something and goes back to the house, leaving the gate hanging open. She goes back into the house and tells Adela she wants some food for a bum.

SA says she knows nothing, Coral doesn’t believe her. SA tries to make excuses for Thelma and oh yeah she doesn’t know anything. She is acting very guilty and nervous, which Coral notices. Coral accuses Thelma of taking Gaby, SA asks if she has proof, Coral admits that she doesn’t. She begs SA to tell her if she knows something.

Claudia comes out with food, but DL is long gone. After she leaves, DL comes out of his hiding place, behind the house but inside the gate. He actually looks convincing as a bum. He managed to find some really filthy clothes and has the whole twitchy look down, he keeps scratching his arms and chest like he’s jonesing for some crack.

Alina and her boss finish treating the patients. Valentina tells Alina that Rodrigo found them last night and saw everything.

Coral is pumping SA for info, SA has a flashback of Thelma threatening to separate SA from the baby if she talks. She denies to Coral that she knows anything. She tells Coral that she understands Coral’s suspicions, but swears that Thelma has changed. Coral leaves. SA then worries that she’ll now be an accomplice to Thelma, but she can’t be separated from the baby.

Emiliooo and Frank look at a map. They agree that Rodrigo is a great help and a good man, too bad about all that Alina stuff. Frank says he’s going to clear things up with Rodrigo about Karla and what he said the night Rodrigo arrived. Emiliooo is glad to hear it. He thinks it will simplify everything. They make some other plans for their work and Frank leaves Emiliooo alone to moon over Alina.

Adela putters around the house, DL now has his gun out and is trying to sneak around unnoticed.

Alina worries that Rodrigo will think badly of her. Too late for that! They discuss this for a while, nothing interesting. Alina says she’ll talk to Rodrigo and explain everything. What’s to explain? She is in loooove with that loser Emiliooo and gave him some action. Rodrigo already knows all this. Why talk to him about it? To make him feel even worse?

DL opens a door and enters gun first. Nobody is there, it’s an empty bedroom. He realizes that Adela is the only one home. The door handle starts to move behind him, he hies under the bed. It’s Adela, putting some laundry away in the dresser. She leaves and DL comes back out from under the bed. He talks to himself, wanting to know where Soledad is. He vows to find her.

Raquel is thanking Gaspar and Luba, who appear to be leaving, for all their help. She has her workers back, they’ll bring in the harvest, etc. Luba lays a long list of compliments on Raquel. Raquel says she knows that Luba and Gaspar could never kill someone. They have a tearful goodbye.

Frank tells Rodrigo that he was mistaken about what he said that night. Rodrigo says there isn’t anything to explain, he knows that Emiliooo and Karla spent many nights together. Of course Alina is standing in the doorway to hear this part. She is super end of show impactada. Imagine that.

No lead in for Monday, now every commercial is just about the Gran Final in another week. I’ll tell you what happens Monday – Emiliooo and Alina fight some more and piss us all off.

Duelo de Pasiones, Thursday July 5 - The world's stupidest couple is reunited

Vera and her pack of pitchfork-wielding idiots menaced Luba and Gaspar. Suddenly Raquel produced a shotgun -- where the heck did that come from? -- and pointed it at the mob, telling them to get off her property.

Ifigenio and Vera warned Raquel that Luba and Gaspar were bad people. Luba told Raquel their accusations were false.

Raquel said no one would help her when she needed it except Luba and Gaspar. Vera shrieked that Luba was a "witch of the devil" who would put the evil eye on Raquel's baby. Geesh, what century is she living in?

Luba did her mean witch act to scare the idiots, who ran off.

Meanwhile: Angel asked Coral if Claudia could stay with her to get away from her evil stepfather Rosendo. Coral sympathetically agreed. Angel said he'd go see Claudia's mother and explain.

Later Claudia told Coral she hadn't known Angel for long but she loved him, "I've never known a boy like him."

At Rodrigo's house: Gaby answered the telephone and found herself speaking to Thelma, who said, "It's good that you finally answered, kid."

Gaby hysterically assured her that she had told Rodrigo to move far away with Alina, then yelled, "Leave me in peace!" and hung up. She told the confused Tina, "We have to leave!"

Tina questioned her, and Gaby said the caller was a very bad woman who wanted to kill her. She admitted that her father knew the woman but wouldn't tell Tina who it was. While trying to comfort Gaby, Tina said to herself, "Who, who could it be?"

No-Longer-Singing Aunt Rebeca scolded Thelma for scaring Gaby. Thelma said, "The difference is my son has a mother to defend him, and this kid has a mother who's in the ground." Rebeca said, "How cruel you are."

At the military camp: Alina sat in a jeep in the rain, waiting for a driver to take her back to town. Her nursing teacher showed up to talk Alina out of leaving.

Emilio told Frank it wouldn't be easy working with Rodrigo because he had been engaged to Alina. (At this point, who hasn't been engaged to Alina, aside from Frank himself?)

Frank asked about Karla. Emilio said Karla was attractive but he was only interested in Alina. Frank admitted that he'd told Rodrigo about seeing Karla leaving Emilio's tent.

Just then Alina and her teacher entered the tent. Emilio and Alina stared at each other. Emilio said, "Alina!" Alina said, "Emilio!" Always such great conversationalists, those two.

Alina's teacher said this must be the Emilio she'd heard so much about. Emilio asked if Alina had told her good things about him. The teacher said yes.

When they were alone, Emilio told Alina he was always thinking about her. "I can't go on living without you. I need you. Please come back to me." They kissed.

Alina said, "I love you with all my heart."

More kissing. The scowling Rodrigo watched them from outside the tent.

Alina said, "If you divorce Thelma, we can make plans." Emilo asked if Alina wanted to marry him. She said, "Yes, that's what I want the most."

Finally they spotted Rodrigo. He apologized for interrupting them and left. Alina told Emilio she would go after him alone and talk to him.

Back in the city: Angel went to Claudia's neighborhood and saw Rosendo passing by. He said to himself, "Rosendo, very soon you are going to pay for all you've done."

Then Angel encountered Claudia's mother carrying a heavy bucket. He offered to help her and she rudely refused. Angel told her Claudia couldn't live with Rosendo any more, saying, "He has tried to abuse her many times."

Claudia's mother shrieked that Rosendo had always been a father to Claudia etc. etc.

Angel said Claudia was his girlfriend. The mother said, "The girl is a flirt." Angel said, "That isn't true," that Claudia loved her mother but wouldn't return home while Rosendo was there. Mom stormed into her house.

At Old Ranch (Raquel's ranch): Luba told Gaspar they would eventually have to leave with the cofre, but she didn't know how.

Meanwhile, Raquel yelled at Hernan for not being there to help her deal with the lynch mob, or should I say the witch-burning mob. He tried to convince her not to trust Luba and Gaspar, but Raquel said, "I trust them and I want to trust them."

Orlando arrived, looking for Luba and Gaspar. Raquel said they were not only her employees, they were under her protection.

Hernan asked Orlando if it was true that Luba was a witch who had killed a girl. Orlando said no. He convinced Raquel to take him to Luba.

After they left the room, Hernan snickered that at last he would get rid of Luba and Raquel, and without them Raquel would have no choice but to sell the ranch! (Too bad Hernan doesn't have a mustache to twirl... Obviously I'm still missing Maximo.)

Luba was still ranting to Gaspar about Vera and her band of idiot villagers. I think she said she would use their fear to help Raquel.

Raquel entered their room with Orlando. Luba told Raquel that Orlando had tried to kill her son. Orlando said he'd only done it because Gaspar was obsessed with a woman (Thelma) and that he had come to take Gaspar to see his son.

Gaspar was delighted at the idea of seeing his little cub, but Luba said she didn't trust Orlando. Orlando pretended to leave and Gaspar got upset.

Luba pulled Raquel aside and told Raquel she had "a great heart," and said (I think?) that she trusted Raquel, then told Orlando she and Gaspar would leave with him tomorrow. I didn't understand all of this scene but Luba appeared to be planning something.

Elsewhere: Thelma told Rebeca she was thinking of returning to the mountain to deal with the infeliz (I'm not sure if she meant Orlando or Gaspar).

Rebeca warned her not to trust Orlando and offered to go with her. Thelma said she could take care of herself and besides, her aunt had to stay behind to take care of the baby. She added that she wished Luba and Gaspar were dead.

At the military camp: Alina found Rodrigo and told him she didn't want him to think badly of her, that she was grateful for his love.

Rodrigo said he would never love anyone else but, "I only want to see you happy, although not at my side." They leaned their heads together and for a moment it looked as if Alina was going to kiss him. (Duhlina, you idiot, make up your idiotic mind!)

Finally Alina pulled away and Rodrigo apologized. He said he would try to give her up, but warned that Emilio wasn't as honest as she presumed. I think he mentioned something about someone being in Emilio's tent, but he refused to say any more, telling her to ask Emilio about it.

Meanwhile, Alina's teacher was telling Emilio how Karla had treated Alina, saying Alina didn't deserve it.

In San Mateo: Agent Vargas called Elias and Soledad to tell them about the deaths of Hugo, Alfonsina, and Mauro. Soledad said, "My god. It was Alvaro. He killed them!"

Vargas warned Elias, "This man is looking for revenge against you. You are in grave danger."

After hanging up, Elias told Soledad he wasn't surprised by Hugo's death, but he didn't understand why had Alvaro killed Alfonsina. Bitterly Soledad said it was Alfonsina's fault that Alvaro had believed she'd had an affair with Jose.

Elias said Alvaro wouldn't rest until he found him, so for Soledad's safety they should separate. Soledad protested, "I can't stand the idea of losing you. You have given me a new vision of life, and I don't want to lose it."

Elias kissed her, thanked her, and said he would protect her forever. (Does that mean he's going to stay with her, after all? Not sure because I didn't catch everything he said.)

At the military camp: Alina and her teacher nursed the sick flood victims. Alina said all her dreams had come true (because she was reunited with Emilio).

Meanwhile, Emilio went to Karla's tent and said he wanted to talk about her problem with Alina. Karla observed, "This girl is very special for you." Emilio said he couldn't deny it, so Karla said, "Alina will find a friend in me."

After Emilio left, Karla said to herself yes, she and Alina were going to be friends, but only so she could find out everything about Alina.

Emilio told Alina he was worried about her spending so much time with contagious people. (Exactly what does Duhmilio think nurses do for a living??)

Duhlina said not to worry, just being with him made her feel stronger than ever. (I'm sure she thinks everyone in that tent will soon be healed by his mere presence.)

Alina's teacher announced that they were out of antibiotics and needed more. It was night and still raining, but Alina and Emilio set off in a jeep with some guy who warned them that the road was bad.

Big surprise: The jeep got stuck in the mud. I'll bet you didn't see that coming. The guy with them kept repeating that another storm was likely, then pointed out that the radiator had overheated. Emilio picked Alina up and carried her from the jeep, I suppose to protect her white uniform from the mud.

(Gee, I wonder if there's an empty cabin nearby where Alina and Emilio can spend the night...?)

At Coral's house: Tina arrived, looking for Alina. She told Angel, Coral, and Claudia about the woman who had called Gaby, saying Gaby had mentioned the name Thelma. "Do you know who this woman is?"

At La Rinconada: Orlando was arguing with Vera about what to do with Luba and Gaspar when Thelma entered the room, to Orlando's surprise. (She sure got there fast. Emilio and Elias must have built a magic highway.)

In the countryside somewhere: What a surprise! That guy took Emilio and Alina to a cabin, then said he would join his family at another cabin and conveniently left the lovebirds alone.

Emilio observed in his usual insightful way, "It seems we are going to have to share the cabin. Do you still have doubts about my love?"

Alina said no, so they started making out and taking off their clothes. Who could have expected, when that jeep got stuck in the mud, that it would lead to this?

Vocabulary word:
compartir = to share

Duelo Tuesday July 3, 2007:Tonkey Returns and Half of Sierra Escondida Disappears

[Wow, it’s been a long time since I recapped—June 11th--and I haven’t even gone on vacation yet like Chris. Thanks for the break, Univision. Also I got today’s Episode by tivo’ing Juan Querendon. It’s a crazy mixed up world here, just like in Duelo-land!]

We come into the picture in Veracruz with Hugo, Alfonsina and Tito, down in the basement where Alfi was formerly tied up and now we have Don Loco, knocked out cold and tied up in a chair. DL’s Sleazy Lawyer who Alfi just shanked is quietly bleeding out on the floor. Hugo and Alfi are trying to decide what to do with DL. Hugo, who has a nosebleed, thinks they should just let the cops come and find DL to take him to the madhouse, so that he can suffer there the rest of his days. Death is too good for him. Alfi, who wanted to kill him is down with that only she wants to scram outta there before the police come, since she’s wanted for murder as well. Hugo says fine but where’s the money. Tito, asks for his cut but Alfonsina says he didn’t really help that much and they both boot him out of there. Alfi grabs the money in a bag from a drawer and they vamoose.

At Coral’s mansion in Puebla, Alina wakes up to a creepy scraping sound. She’s alarmed but goes to the door to see who it is. WOOHOO! IT’S TONKEY!!! Tonkey has been missing Alina and he wants to play. Alina tells him he’s out of luck. She has to shower and get ready to go to class . She wants to be an excellent nurse so that she can help people and when she graduates, she’ll be able to go reunite with her mom.

Back over to DL who is alone with Tito, who is waving something under his nose to revive him. He wakes up . He fills DL in BEFORE untying him. Smart one, that Tito. Tito tells him that Hugo and Alfi have fled in a car.

Next we’re in Sierra Escondida. It’s the creepy administrator guy who won’t do a lick of work, Lauro (?) from Rancho Viejo who has arrived at La Rinconada. He meets Vera, who seems to be in charge of everything there now since Santos is AWOL. She tells him that Santos is in San Mateo and the owners are not in residence. Lauro tells Vera that Luba and Gaspar are at “his farm” Rancho Viejo. Vera beams with excitement.

Back over to Coral’s in Puebla Coral’s in her peignoir and Alina’s in her whites. Coral remarks that “boy it’s early.” After a brief exchange, mentioning Soledad’s absence, Alina takes off. Coral says out loud, “Who could have thought that I’d look on her like a sister.” Not sure if she’s referring to Alina or Soledad.

In Veracruz, Alfi and Hugo have stopped to dispose of the sleazy lawyer’s body. They drag it from the car and push it off a steep slope. Hugo remarks to Alfi that when they get to Puebla, they will split the money and go their separate ways. Alfonsina smirks and using the element of surprise, comes up behind him and pushes him off the slope. He rolls over the SL’s body and ends up nearby. Alfonsina runs back to the car to discover that Hugo has locked it and pocketed the keys. Alfi must make her way down the slope to Hugo’s body to get the keys. She rolls him over and roots around in his pockets and finds the keys. As she turns to go, he comes to and grabs her by the ankle. Ewwww! He looks like a horror movie zombie with his eyeball hanging loose from it’s socket. DISGUSTING!

Finally, we’ve made it over to wherever the flood is and Emilio is helping. Emilio wakes up in his tent and finds Karla fully dressed next to him, asleep on the bed. He’s annoyed. “Again? She won’t give up!” he complains.

Back to the dramatic scene on the cliff with Alfi and Zombie Hugo. Alfi grabs Hugo’s gun and screams at him to let her go. She shoots him and scrambles away. [Note to Hugo: Ya shoulda had a semi automatic, not a revolver. You could have pocketed the magazine with the keys and kept them separately. With a girlfriend like Alfonsina, best not keep a loaded gun within her reach. Oh well. Oops.]

Vera and Lauro, who has made himself at home at La Rinconada are still talking about Luba and Gaspar. Lauro tells Vera that the owner of Rancho Viejo has let them stay on the farm as workers. Vera chimes in that she must not know that they are responsible for the death of the young girl, Florecita. Lauro nods solemnly and say, sure, he’ll be happy to make sure that Vera and her merry band of villagers can get into the ranch so they can come and burn Luba and Gaspar alive. At just that moment, Orlando who apparently has been staying at La R. while searching for Luba and Gaspar, shows up and asks what’s going on. Vera is impactada.

Over at the nursing school, the Nursing teacher tells the class that there has been a change of plans. The nursing students are not going to the old folks home for their service. Instead, they are going to the flood zone where there is a rotavirus outbreak. It’s more dangerous and so she tells them they are free to back out. She smiles when she sees that all the students are re-volunteering, including Alina.
In the flood zone, Emilio and Karla are putting on their boots in Emilio’s tent. Emilio is like “Give it up already, Karla, I’m not into you.” Karla tries to wheedle him that she thought he didn’t look so great yesterday and she just wanted to check on him. She saw him there asleep on his cot and decided to just hop in bed with him. I wouldn’t buy that explanation and neither does Emilio who gives his sucked on a lemon face. He doesn’t want an argument; he just wants her out of his tent. As soon as she leaves, Rodrigo comes in, face contorted in fury. He chortles that Emilio hasn’t wasted any time with the ladies. What would Alina think if she knew that he’d just got outta bed with a new lady friend? Emilio looks unhappy. BUSTED!

Now we’re back with Alfonsina scrambling up the hill. She’s huffing that Hugo was a hypocrite for trying to kill her. Now she got him back. As she crests the hill, who does she meet up with? Don Loco. Don Loco thanks her for having saved him the trouble of killing Hugo. He grabs her and throttles her, telling her that he will have his revenge for her ruining his marriage. Alfonsina begs him to spare her and then proceeds to knee him in the groin. She breaks away and runs to the car. Ooops, dropped the car keys! DL tells her she’s trapped. She runs off and nabs the horse that apparently DL got there on. While she steals the horse, DL grabs the keys and gets into the car.

Back to Emilio and Rodrigo. Rodrigo is still riding Emilio about his womanizing ways. Emilio argues weakly that it wasn’t so. Karla’s just a friend. Rodrigo laughs that off and complains that Alina refused his offer of marriage but wait till she finds out how faithful Emilio has been to her. Emilio is probably supposed to be impactado but you wouldn’t know it.

Back to the climactic scene of Alfonsina escaping Don Loco, horse vs. car. DL sticks a nice engraved silver revolver out the window and starts shooting at Alfi. Eventually, she’s hit and falls to the ground.

Emilio and Rodrigo are still tussling over Alina and Emilio’s apparent lack of faithfulness to her. Rodrigo says although Alina has rejected him, he’s still going to “protect her” by finking on Emilio.

Alina, back in Puebla, calls Coral and tells her that she won’t be home for supper. She’s heading out with the nursing students to the flood zone. Coral tells her to be careful in the scary flood zone.

Over at La Rinconada, Orlando is confronting Vera and Lauro about what he heard about Luba and Gaspar. Vera lies (badly) and claims that Lauro is looking for Luba because he knows she’s a curandera and he’s sick. Lauro catches on quickly that Vera doesn’t want Orlando to know what’s up and agrees that that is why he came. Lauro and Vera leave. Orlando is left standing there like an idiot, musing about how odd it is that everybody is looking for Luba and Gaspar. He will continue his search in nearby areas for them

Rodrigo and Emilio are still pissing back and forth about Alina. Emilio is fed up and complains that he’s done talking. He has nothing to explain. He doesn’t want to go any further to save Karla’s reputation. [Yeah, I did a double take and replayed that when I heard it too.] Emilio stupidly says that when he left Puebla, Rodrigo and Alina were engaged. [That item doesn’t really make him sound innocent.] Rodrigo says that it didn’t take him long to jump in bed with the first woman who crossed his path. Just when things are heating up, Frank comes in and says they’ve got to go.

At la Rinconada, Vera sees Ifigenio coming downstairs carrying off a rug [what? Is he going to sell it on ebay?] and she explains to him and to us that Santos is off taking care of his sick mom and Jaime is out of town for two weeks [no reason given]. But guess what? She’s found out where Luba and Gaspar are! She’s talked to a guy from Rancho Viejo who knows that they are there. Ifigenio is all ready to run over there, torches ‘a burning but Vera tells him that Orlando overheard her conversation with the Rancho Viejo guy and undoubtedly, as a representative of the state, he will want to have Luba and Gaspar turned in to the authorities, not burned at the stake by the villagers. They’ll have to be stealthy. Vera will make sure that Orlando is occupied and then Ifigenio can go and round up a posse.

Out in the boonies, Don Loco is tracking the wounded Alfonsina. She gets up and tries to run away. It’s hard to see where’s she’s been hit, maybe the hip or the back. She doesn’t get very far when Don Loco drives up and hits her with the car. She falls on the ground again, panicked. DL jumps out of the car and mumbles “Here’s where you pay, you disgrace!” He whips out the revolver and shoots her in the forehead. Goodbye Alfonsina!

[Commercials: There’s Karyme Lozano in Amar Sin Limites. I’m not a fan of the stick thin model type but she’s looking a little broad in the beam these days. That red satin dress they put her in makes her look like a tomato. She is a good actress though, very appealing, so I will be giving ASL a try. Also, Fea-mania is still alive and well on Univision. They are doing a 4th of July special with all the actors. La Parodia is also doing a Fea special. The people playing the principals look hysterical.]

Back in Veracruz, Tito is now being interrogated by the cops who are trailing Don Loco. Tito tells them that he left pursuing Hugo and Alfonsina who had stolen a bunch of money. He doesn’t know where. When the cops leave, Tito says to himself that he hopes Don Loco caught up to them—“They didn’t give me my money.” Geez, what a cold-hearted little bastard!

Meanwhile, DL has gone back to where the other two bodies are lying, Hugo and his Sleazy Lawyer, Mauro’s. Apparently he just wanted to have a chat with Mauro’s corpse. He tells him that he’s sorry he has to leave him behind. He needs to get away before the police catch him. His plan is to make Soledad forgive him and to “take her far away.” [Oooh! Sounds like kidnapping to me!] He stops to taunt Hugo’s corpse before waking up hill.

Alina is travelling in an open truck with about 7 or 8 student nurses headed to the flood zone. [What? Army nurses in Mexico wear their hospital whites while on campaign in a rural disaster? I doubt it.] Anyway, It looks like a lonely soldier’s dream come true…eh, Chris? Alina is orange flashbacking the altercation at Edelmira’s between Soledad and her crazy Daddy, when Soledad is horrified to find out that he stashed her in a bordello. She looks sad and the teacher asks her what’s wrong. She thinks it’s boy trouble with Emilio. Alina tells her [over the din of the road] that it’s her mom she was thinking about, her dad is sick, mentally ill of jealousy…made all their lives hell, went to jail, escaped…blah blah blah.

Vera is seeing off Orlando, she’s brought him some food for his trip canvassing the area looking for Luba and Gaspar. She tells him that maybe Luba is being hidden by the priest, Padre Cristobal. Orlando looks intrigued, he thanks her and leaves. Without the food. Vera gets all twitchy-bitchy and chortles to herself that Orlando will spend the entire day getting to the church and meanwhile, they’ll be having roast Luba and Gaspar over at Rancho Viejo. Man, did Vera get a personality transplant or what? Whatever happened to dumb, happy face Vera?

At Rancho Viejo Gaspar and Luba are helping Raquel feed the cattle. All of the sudden, Raquel doubles over in pain. At first Luba tries to calm her and makes her breathe some herbs that she just happens to have with her. She tells her that some women are more delicate than others in pregnancy but that she has nothing to worry about, “You are a female of strong stock.” Then Luba bends down to listen to Raquel’s belly and jumps up impactada—“Caray!” she says.

Back in the military vehicle, Alina has finished telling her tale of woe to the Teacher Nurse, whose name apparently is Valentina. Valentina says she admires Alina even more, knowing her family history. She admires her generosity helping other people when she has other problems. Alina says there’s not too much she can do for her mom right now anyway. Valentina changes tack and tells Alina that if she’s going to be distracted, that will be a problem on this mission, since it’s so dangerous. Alina assures her she won’t be.

Karla, Rodrigo, Emilio head off in a jeep through the countryside to do some more flood management stuff. Rodrigo has come with reinforcements to relieve the volunteers from the community who are tired out and ill. Karla gets out to talk to some of the residents and makes some insinuating comments about seeing Emilio later. After she goes, Emilio tells Rodrigo that he knows what he’s thinking but there is nothing between him and Karla. He stops cold and tells him that they’ve got to work together on this project, put their differences aside because the work is difficult and dangerous and if they don’t pull together, their men and the victims will be at risk. He extends his hand and Rodrigo shakes it.

Finally, we have a glimpse at Claudia’s unhappy home. Recall that in the last episode, Angel brazenly confronted Rosendo over the theft of the dresses from Coral’s boutique and his attempts at assaulting his stepdaughter. Rosendo tells her to get rid of Angel she will be sorry and he grabs her face and tries to kiss her right there. Claudia screams at him and tries to get away.

Back at Rancho Viejo, Raquel is alarmed at Luba’s reaction, listening to her belly. Luba doesn’t want to tell her right away. Gaspar asks if the baby is going to be born soon. Luba says no. There is still aways to go. But…she’s going to have more than a child. She’s having twins! Luba and Raquel are all smiles.
From the sublime to the awful---Claudia breaks away and grabs a pan from the stove. She hurls the contents at Rosendo’s crotch and runs out the door. Hope it was hot, whatever it was.

Next we check in with Soledad and Elias at their hotel in San Mateo. Soledad is freaking out. She’s sure Alvaro will find them. Elias tries to comfort her and even suggests that they go take a walk. Soledad is uncertain that this is a good idea but Elias tells her that yes, this is THE LAST PLACE that her crazy husband would look for her.

Over in Puebla, Coral is talking to Angel at the boutique. Claudia still hasn’t arrived and she’s worried. Angel is concerned too, Rosendo is a piece of work. Coral can’t believe that Claudia’s mother won’t listen to her own daughter, “How can there be mothers like that?” she exclaims and pounds the table for emphasis. At last, Claudia rushes in crying. She says that she can’t go home again. She asks Angel for his help.

In San Mateo, Orlando has arrived at the Church. Padre Cristobal is out of town. [OK, we’ve lost Jaime, Santos, Rosita and now Padre Cristobal…instead of SESD now we have Sierra Escondida disappearing disease SEDD. ] Orlando tells the new priest to get in touch with him if he sees Luba or Gaspar. The priest asks why he wants them and Orlando gives some lame excuse. Just then, a woman rushes up to the priest and tells him that they found Luba and Gaspar and that they are at Rancho Viejo. Orlando gives his classic shifty eyed smile.

Soledad and Elias are out strolling in San Mateo. She doesn’t want to talk about Alvaro anymore. She’s done with him. He asks if she is going to divorce Alvaro. She says yes and he immediately kisses her. Although she looks uncomfortable, in the next second, she is telling him that yes, he should have hope, that she will see him as more than a friend. She wants a little more time to divorce DL and then put the whole nightmare behind her. Elias is ecstatic and tells her that he’s waited years for this, what’s a few more?

Over in the flood zone, the nurses have arrived. Karla shows up to give them instructions, like that they have to wear masks so as not to spread the contagion of rotavirus. Valentina goes over to look at some patients and calls out Alina’s name to come help her. Karla is impactada and orange flashback’s Emilio calling out for Alina in his sleep.

Karla goes over to Alina and asks her if she knows Emilio Valtierra. Alina says yes and asks Karla the same thing. Karla says …yes…”we’re goooood friends.” Alina looks puzzled behind her mask but says nothing. Karla looks dissatisfied at her lack of a jealous reaction. She interrupts again and asks Valentina what the experience level of the student nurses is. Valentina tells her that they all have varying degrees of experience but that Alina is a recently registered student. Karla tells Valentina huffily that Alina can’t be permitted to work. It would be too risky for the victims to have someone inexperienced working there. Alina now looks impactada behind her mask.

Next we are at Vargas’ the prosecutor’s office when Dra. Loca walks in. Varga tells her that DL hasn’t tried to kidnap his wife. Just then the phone rings and there’s news—DL has been spotted in Veracruz with a trail of bodies behind him, including his own lawyer. Dra. Loca says now, for sure DL will try to get at his wife and she runs a grave risk if she is with Elias.

At Coral’s boutique, Coral and Angel are comforting Claudia. They are trying to convince her to denounce him. Coral points out that that is why there are men like Rosendo, because nobody stops them. Angel urges Claudia to ‘fess up to the Coral about everything. Claudia finally grudgingly allows that Rosendo was responsible for the robbery of the boutique. Coral is impactado.

In the flood zone clinic, we are still at the standoff between Karla and Alina, with Valentina in the middle. Valentina argues that Alina is the best student in her class and that in addition, she’s an expert in natural medicine. Karla laughs this off and says that natural medicine is inferior to scientific medicine and that people will only be treated with scientific medicine here. Karla insists that Alina leave and be responsible decontaminating the linens and clothing (I think this means she’s got laundry duty). Valentina starts to protest but Alina tells her not to worry, she’ll be fine. She has done this kind of work before. She takes off her mask and leaves. Karla smirks behind her mask. I am sure she’s thinking, SCORE!

Over at Rancho Viejo, Vera has shown up with the villagers and their unlit sticks, rakes and pitchforks. It’s broad daylight anyway so the effect wouldn’t be that dramatic if they were lit. Lauro urges them to be quiet and sneak around so that Luba and Gaspar don’t escape.

Over at the flood zone clinic, it’s not over yet between Valentina and Karla. Valentina reproaches Karla for having mistreated Alina. Karla is now super insulting to Valentina. She says that if Alina didn’t want to do dirty work, she should have stayed home with Mommy and Daddy. Valentina takes umbrage at this, saying that Karla has no idea what Alina had to do to get there and she has no right to be so insulting. Valentina rips off her latex gloves and leaves in a huff to go talk to Alina. Karla looks ticked.

Frank, Rodrigo and Emilio are out in the woods. Emilio remarks that another storm is coming soon, that they’d better get a move on with evacuations. Rodrigo tells Emilio to go report on their progress to General Ochoa. Emilio pauses to thank Rodrigo for all his help. Rodrigo says that although they make a good team, and that he’s grateful for the work Emilio did in helping to find Gaby, they will never be friends, because of Alina. Emilio nods.

Meanwhile, back at the Ranch (Rancho Viejo) Raquel is starting to reconsider whether trying to hold on to the ranch is such a great idea after all. With two kids on the way, the task seems more daunting. Luba tries to encourage her by telling her that with two kids, she should want the ranch even more. The children will grow up strong and healthy in the country instead of the city.

[Sorry, tivo cut off here—Tune in tomorrow, I guess, when the villagers arrive and try to burn Luba at the stake!]

Duelo June 29 - Will somebody kill somebody already

I’m back in the saddle after a couple weeks off, I feel refreshed and today I have the energy to deal with what my wife refers to as ‘Duelo de Pendejos.’ My wife has already turned around and gone with my son to Mexico to visit her family for a month, so until I join them in a few weeks I’m on my own, I don’t have the Mrs. Ferro dictionary to consult. Confidence is high, I’ve been learning a lot. Lets get to it.

As Dra. Loca reads up on celotopia, I can’t help but notice she has cleavage up to her chin. I wonder if the amount of cleavage shown represents how much of a professional you are. Don Loco shows up and she is afraid, she thinks he’s going to attack her again. Turns out he wants to be forgiven for what he did, he claims not to remember any of it. He claims to know how the police think and work, so they won’t look for him here. Yes DL, you are SO smart. He asks Dra. Loca if it’s true, is he really crazy? Dra. Loca doesn’t answer him.

The outside shot of Coral’s house makes it look like kind of a dump. I thought this was supposed to be a grand mansion, but it looks like crap. It is in desperate need of some paint. The inside is nice though. Soledad, Alina, Coral, Adela, and Elias hear Vargas describe how DL escaped. DL is sure to come straight there. Elias says whatever, he will protect Soledad. Nobody believes him. He is completely unbelievable as a love interest for Soledad, he just hangs around and tries to win her over by just never leaving. The fact that the writers have Soledad considering him is a joke. There is zero chemistry between the two of them, in fact, I’d say there is even negative chemistry, if that’s possible.

Hottie Claudia tells Angel about her stepfather coming home with the dresses. Angel says the crime wasn’t about the clothes, it was to intimidate him. He tells her that he and Emiliooo are on Rosendo’s trail because he kidnapped Rodrigo’s daughter. Claudia just sits there and looks cute, I don’t think she quite understands it all.

Thelma is again visiting Emiliooo’s lawyer, AKA Dra. Loca’s estranged fiancée. She tells him that he should tell Emiliooo to get another lawyer, he says he needs to talk to Rodrigo first to see if she is telling the truth. Something about when Emiliooo gets a divorce he’ll go after Alina, who otherwise would be getting together with the lawyer’s friend Rodrigo. I would think she would be better off bribing this guy to botch the divorce and stay on as Emiliooo’s lawyer, if he gets some other lawyer, he’ll get the divorce anyway. If this lawyer can drag it on and make trouble, Rodrigo might have enough time to win over Alina. WE know now that it will never happen, but Thelma doesn’t know that. She’s making a mistake. And I can’t believe that I can even think in this type of logic. I must have gone past some novela- related tipping point where that part of my brain has opened up. God help me.

Back in SE Ifgenio is getting the people riled up again to try and look for Luba and Gaspar. They are at some vendor’s shack, someone who sells lots of crap, like the street vendors when you go to Mexico just over the border. Some dude walks up to buy something, it happens to be the guy who was the original accountant on La Fea (What was his name? Olarte? I’m remembering Olarte but that might be wrong) and was ALSO the general who was after Jose Gomez earlier in this very same show. With all the changing actors and now this guy playing two parts, I believe that this show got put on the super-low-budget treatment the farther it went along. Perhaps they paid too much money for Pablo Montero to be the star and then when it sucked and nobody watched they had to cut corners. Just a theory. Anyway, Iffy tells this dude that they are looking for a witch and her son to give them their punishment, does the guy know anything? He just looks impactado and doesn’t answer.

Gaspar, Luba, and Raquel rest after their first day of work and decide that it wasn’t bad for their first day. Raquel hopes some of the workers will come back. One guy walks up and Gaspar asks if he’s here to help, but the guy says he has arthritis and can’t work. Luba says she can cure it. He claims that a doctor is helping him. She questions his manhood but he doesn’t let her help him. He wants to talk business with Raquel. Luba warns her about this guy, I didn’t quite understand what about specifically, but she thinks he’s up to something. She tells Gaspar that the guy is creepy.

Claudia begs Angel to not do anything. Angel says he has to do something. She says there isn’t any proof and also she’s worried about angering her mother. Angel says he’ll find a way to do it that won’t involve Claudia.

Luba tells Gaspar that the guy made up his arthritis for some reason, he tells Raquel stories so he doesn’t have to work. I think the guy’s name is Hernan, Luba REALLY doesn’t like him.

Finally back to DL and crazy doctora. He wants an answer. I just figured out why this woman looks familiar, and why as good looking as she is I don’t find her that attractive, she looks just like Juliette Lewis, who always kind of creeped me out. She says he’s not crazy, he has an emotional disorder, he needs help. He says he won’t go back to any hospital or be locked up anywhere. The doorbell rings, he grabs her and pulls out his gun.

As I thought earlier, the ladies disregard Elias as a protector for Soledad. He whines and begs, but Vargas says Soledad should leave Puebla until they find Don Loco. Elias thinks he’s smart, so he says she should go to San Mateo, since DL wouldn’t ever imagine her to be there. Yeah I’m sure that’s a great idea. Soledad doesn’t think so either.

Angel finds Rosendo at a pool hall. He says, in front of Rosendo’s crew, that he knows it was them who robbed the boutique.

DL, with his gun out and holding Dra. Loca, moves towards the door as the doorbell continues to ring. He puts his hand over her mouth. Outside Mauricio announces himself, then says he’ll leave and come back another time. She begs DL again to get help, he says no, then they make out. Gross. DL says something about women stabbing him in the back, Dra. Loca says to him that he shouldn’t talk about Soledad that way, she never betrayed him. He looks mildly impactado. What? I thought he knew this now. He turns and leaves. Juliette Lewis cries some more.

Rosendo tells Angel that he doesn’t have any proof. Angel says Rosendo needs to leave Claudia alone, if he wants to send Angel a message do it directly. He warns him though that many people know he came here to see Rosendo, so if he doesn’t return soon they will find Rosendo and make him pay. I’m thinking that in reality Angel didn’t tell anybody at all he was coming, we’ll see if Rosendo calls his bluff. Rosendo is instead impressed with Angel’s ‘pantalones’, which I assume means he’s got balls, and lets Angel leave in peace.

Finally back to Emiliooo and Karla. I think Emiliooo is only able to resist her, because she’s hot, because she’s a bit wacky in being so forward. Before he had hot/dumb and hot/psycho as choices, now he has hot/aggressive. Honestly of all those I think the aggressive one is the way to go. It won’t happen, but at least she’s clear that she wants him and she isn’t wacko on the level of Thelma. They talk about containing the epidemic, Emiliooo says he doesn’t want to catch it himself. Karla says no, they need him now more than ever. She holds his hand as she says this, but it really didn’t seem like a come-on. He reacts very negatively though, as if it were. I guess they have to end every scene with some kind of over-acted facial expression from someone, so there you have it.

Alina has finally changed from her nurse’s uniform, she’s doing some reading and closes the book. I imagine she’s about to moon over Emiliooo. I learned this from the early days of La Fea. Any time there was Lety heaving a big sigh and closing whatever she was looking at, that damned music would start and she’d start daydreaming. Gah when I was watching the finale with my wife, after not wathing that show for six months, even then the first time that music started it made me itch. Bleah. I was wrong, Alina instead sits and thinks about her mom, who then enters the room saying that she’s leaving. Alina is worried for her, she starts her crying, then they both start. Soledad says at least DL doesn’t know that Alina is alive, she should be safe.

Hernan is trying to convince Raquel to sell her ranch for 10 Million pesos, which Raquel says is ridiculous. I agree, that’s somewhere in the neighborhood of a million dollars. For a huge ranch that’s low, I would think. She wants to know who the buyer is, Hernan says he wants to remain anonymous. She wants to know more, and anyway it’s not for sale. Hernan says quit asking questions, that’s what he is for, to protect her interests. Yeah right. She tells him that with Luba and Gaspar she has hope to work the ranch, she mentions them about five times, which of course means that Hernan will directly go off to his henchmen and tell them to run off those two, or kill them. One more thing – Hernan is wearing the ugliest shirt I have ever seen. It is yellow with an orange and blue plaid pattern on it. Hideous. I can’t even describe it to you properly. After Raquel leaves, Olarte/General comes up and Hernan calls him Fidencio. I guess you guys have seen him already, I haven’t been watching so I didn’t know his face. He tells Hernan that the people of SE are trying to find Luba and Gaspar. He says why don’t they tell the lynch mob where to find them? That will solve their problem.

Coral tells Soledad that its time to go, Elias is taking her to San Mateo. Soledad and Alina have a tearful goodbye.

Hernan asks Fidencio if he’s sure Gaspar and Luba are the same people he heard about. Uh duh, you think? How many witches with long-haired super muscular sons who act like five years olds do you think there are in this small area? Jeez. He should really not have any doubt after Luba said she was a curandera earlier in the show. What an idiot. Fidencio seems to wimp out about ratting on Luba and Gaspar, but Hernan convinces him. I get the impression that Fidencio wants to go back to work, I didn’t quite understand his entire little speech.

Gaby begs Rodrigo not to go anywhere. She has done nothing but cry since she was kidnapped. All she has to do is tell on Thelma and it will all be over. Another tearful goodbye.

Dra. Loca and her amazing cleavage are waiting for Vargas, who returns from Coral’s house. She tells him that DL was at her house. She tells him that DL is really after Elias and Hugo, the ones who have gone against him. Remember of course, Elias is currently taking Soledad to Puebla, where Dra. Loca lives. Perhaps the confrontation will even happen in tonight’s show.

Booooo – the crime continues, Alfonsina is still all covered up in her horrific disguise. I don’t think that helps her escape notice, it’s like a clown outfit. If she’s going to stand out in a crowd, it should be for the right reason, that being having her awesome body on display, like the good old days. Not for looking like Bozo. She is still tied up in the basement, or wherever Hugo left her, some kid comes in and discovers her and she begs for help. The kid says no way, Hugo will kill him. She promises not to tell that it was him and offers him money. The kid immediately takes the bait and cuts her loose. While the kid gets the ropes off, Alfonsina finds the knife he used on the floor and sticks it up the sleeve of her shirt. Just then Don Loco enters, how did he know where to look? Alfonsina insists that she was always loyal. He confronts her about the note and the true story behind it. He blames her for his insanity – “What did you do to me?”

Vargas tells Dra. Loca that Elias and Soledad are far away, hiding until DL is recaptured. Just in case we didn’t realize before that they were all bound to bump into each other in Puebla, they knock us over the head with it. Dra. Loca actually makes a good point, that DL won’t be after Emiliooo because they were always on opposite sides, DL is just looking for people who screwed him over, so it’s Hugo right now that is in the most danger. Well actually it’s Alfonsina, but they don’t know all that part of the story.

Alfonsina comes back with the fact that DL was a traitor to her too – they were in love and he tossed her aside for Soledad. Alfonsina looks young, so I’m guessing he was ALREADY with Soledad when his fling with Alfonsina started, so she really doesn’t have a leg to stand on here. She gives a tearful speech about being poor and the rich treating them poorly, meanwhile she is working free the knife she stuck up her sleeve. DL says what did you think, that we’d get married? Oh – his sleazy lawyer is there too, I didn’t see him before. He’s just standing there watching all this. DL says Alfonsina would never be the woman Soledad is. He turns around, for some reason, to take out his gun and check the bullets. Alfonsina rushes in with the knife raised. The lawyer pushes DL out of the way and ends up taking the knife in his own back, this time literally. He slowly collapses and dies in DL’s arms. Alfonsina just cries and cries.

The phone rings at Rodrigo’s house, it is Thelma on the other end, she says nothing and hangs up. Gaby wants to know who it was, nobody, go to sleep. Thelma, at her house, grumbles and gripes. Hey – don’t they have caller ID in Mexico? I know they do, my in-laws have it. Why would Thelma be dumb enough to call from her own house? Cripes.

Alina sits straight up from her deep sleep screaming “No Papa! Don’t hurt my Mom!” Coral rushes in to check on her, she was having a dream where DL killed Soledad. They agree that DL is obsessed with Soledad. Nice work Holmes and Watson.

Elias tells a cop or guard or whatever to watch the door to their place very carefully. I’m not sure where they are, perhaps a hotel. Knowing Elias, in the middle of all this tension, he’s going to start pressuring Soledad again about hooking up. They talk about DL and decide that they don’t have any idea where he’ll show up. Elias says he’ll be in the next room and she thanks him for his help. He lays it on too thick, “I’ll always be here at your side.” She says yeah yeah thank you good night. She locks all ten locks on the door but still looks nervous.

Is it my imagination, or do they have like one commercial in the first half of the show and then four or five commercial breaks in the second half? Commercial for Yo Amo a Juan – that hair is ridiculous. How can you watch that show and believe this guy gets women when he has that hair. Maybe if he just looked normal people wouldn’t be avoiding that show and making it switch time slots. I’m just saying, though maybe you women out there feel differently. I can’t get past the hair.

DL closes the lawyer’s eyes, he’s dead for sure now. DL has the nerve to tell her about all the bad things she’s done, like he’s so innocent. He hits her. She screams for help but of course nobody hears. He takes her away at gunpoint to lead him to Hugo.

Karla and Emiliooo continue to work with the sick people, he has at least put on a face mask and gloves, she still hasn’t covered up her face. Not that I mind, but it doesn’t make sense. He rubs his forehead and she asks if he feels sick, he says he’s just tired. He should have said “Because YOU came in and took my bed bitch, I slept in a CHAIR.” She tells him to go rest, but of course no, there is too much to be done, I am SuperEmiliooo, I won’t rest until everyone is safe, I will however stand around and smoke cigars while the rest of you work. She tells him to go rest, it’s under control, ha ha then she says that it’s her fault he’s tired. Ok she’s a bit creepy with her pursuit of Emiliooo but at least she doesn’t dance around the obvious. Her only fault so far is being interested in Emiliooo, who is a complete loser. Otherwise I like her.

Alina thanks Coral for calming her down. In a different kind of show, this is where the clothes would come off. Did I say that out loud? Sorry. Coral tells her to think of the positive things. Alina says she will do it. Yeah right, she has no concept of thinking positively. Just moping and crying. Which she immediately does when Coral leaves, “Ay Emiliooo….”

Hugo is laying into the kid for letting Alfonsina go. DL and Alfonsina bust into the room. DL says Hugo is going to watch him kill Alfonsina, then he’s going to kill Hugo. Less talking, more killing. Unless Alfonsina is going to start dressing slutty again, we don’t need her any more. Or one of you get the gun and shoot DL. Something. We are near the end, something drastic like that can happen now.

Frank (I think) is standing guard in the middle of the night talking on his radio. He sees someone, it’s obviously Karla since all you can see is a white shirt with obvious boobs, walking over to Emiliooo’s tent. He marvels at Emiliooo’s skill with women. Whatever. Inside the tent, Emiliooo is sleeping. Karla looks at him and thought bubbles “Oh Emiliooo I love you so much, I never met a man like you, so valiant, so..” ok I can’t continue, or I’m going to throw up. What a bunch of crap. Did she not see him on that first day, standing around smoking, when all the people who had already worked themselves to death kept working? So valiant indeed. When I was younger and had fewer good qualities than I do now, why weren’t hotties like this deciding I was so interesting and deep and whatever? I spent a lot of time with a blank look on my face too, just like this guy. What a load of crap. Anyway she goes to kiss him and he says Alina’s name. Didn’t this happen already? Oh yeah, Karla says again with that name, who is it? She wants to get that name out of his head.

Hugo tries to talk his way out of getting shot. DL says he has nothing to lose. Alfonsina begs on her knees, he tells her to shut up. Hugo manages to knock the gun out of DL’s hand, they get into a rousing fistfight. DL finally knocks Hugo to the floor. He stops to put his hat back on before picking up his gun. Alfonsina is worthless, she could have taken that opening to kick him or something. Or to have grabbed the gun while the men were fighting. Instead she just hid behind a wall and whimpered. The kid then, of all people, comes up behind DL and bashes a bottle on his head, knocking him out. The kid then tells Alfonsina to give him the money she promised so he can run away. “What money?” says Hugo. Alfonsina is trying to burn holes in the kid’s head with her eyes for spilling the beans. Oops!

Rodrigo and some more men have arrived at the camp, as predicted he decides to go see Emiliooo right away. Emiliooo, who currently has some hottie in his tent that is not named Alina. Somebody called this like two weeks ago, right? Who was it? You should get a special prize. Well, sort of – the soldier who greeted Rodrigo stops him from going to see Emiliooo and finally has to tell him that he’s in there with a woman. Rodrigo seethes. Shouldn’t he be happy? Now Alina can pretend to not like Emiliooo for a couple more days, give Rodrigo a little more sugar, before running back to Emiliooo later in the week. He gets something out of it.

Alfonsina wants to kill DL, Hugo says no, he should rot in jail or a loony bin or whatever for the rest of his life. She says fine, then, let’s get out of here. Hugo says first, the money. The kid says he wants his lana too. Alfonsina says the money was to help her escape and he didn’t do it, so nothing for him. Hugo says the money is for him and Alfonsina. Oh, they’re a team again now, huh? How convenient. They run the kid out of the house. Alfonsina opens the cabinet right next to the front door, which appears to be empty except for a large pink and white striped bag full of money. He couldn’t have found that when she was tied up? Unbelievable. They take the money and leave.

My recording ended here, I feel like I must have missed something important, somebody fill us in! I don’t have any lead in for Monday, nothing.
