Caray, Caray!

We revisit Monica waiting in the hospital lobby as CL has a battery of tests following his two episodes of debilitating pain the day before. Paula makes a snide remark to Moni with a super fake smile, and Moni retorts with a perfectly matched smile and tone. Paula supposes her hubby has Moni well-informed (estar al tanto de todo-to be on the ball, but I’m loosely interpreting that CL has caught Moni up on his situation with Paula)—Moni only knows that they have their distance and Paula’s moved back to her Mami’s house. She ASSURES Paula that she can believe Moni isn’t there with an agenda to irritate Paula, and she doesn’t see any harm in her coming to the hospital with CL. Between barbs, she pages through magazines and occasionally makes eye contact, because she’s Clearly Bored With This Conversation. Poor guy, these things terrify him. Paula is annoyed to acknowledge she didn’t know that. They’re still just getting to know each other. Moni cheerily (or cheekily, depending on one’s perspective) tells Paula she’s giving her the 411 and Paula looks P.O.’d.

We revisit Delirio regaling Pastor with the merits of the sof-WHERE (in English) that he wants to install on all the company computers. Delirio wants to make a presentation to show how it works. Delirio rubs his hands in anticipation and doesn’t even register that Pastor rubs his hands in a mirror image while they talk [Ed. Note: But Roberto D’Amico/Alirio is having trouble not laughing]. Pastor comments dryly on his efficiency and Delirio says he wants to show that not Everyone In This Office Invents Obstacles and Throws up Hindrances. He shakes a finger gently at Pastor and smiles cattily. Pastor is better at smiling cattily anyway. He’ll tell Don CL’s secretary that Delirio wants an appointment. Pastor keeps working his hands…..he supposes that Delirio wants the boss there? Of course, he’s the owner, right? [Roberto D’Amico is struggling not to bust out laughing]. But of course, it interests Delirio most that Pastor is present, since he always has the Final Word. Pastor, miming Delirio’s handwaving gesture, wildly waves and tells Delirio he’s glad Delirio is finally with the program. He picks up the phone.

Paula thinks it’s strange that CL asked Moni to go with him and not Paula herself. Moni tells Paula she simply offered, he didn’t ask. That pain he had yesterday came again last night, Moni wasn’t there but someone had told her [Ed. Note: we all know who That was, folks]. So, she decided to call Dr. Vaquiero to ask for an immediate appointment. The doc recommended a general examination. Paula wonders if she should thank Moni for that. Moni tells her “look, Paula, CL minimizes every discomfort. But he’s not well.” She’s got to take better care of him. [Oooh, that’s pretty presumptuous of an ex.] Paula wonders why she continues worrying about him so much? Moni points out he’s her partner in business. Paula finally sits down next to her. “Only for that?” Moni closes the magazine, irritated. “You know perfectly well that’s not it. I was at his side for many years. You don’t erase that between night and morning.” Paula didn’t expect that response. Then, Paula nails her: is Moni still in love with him? [Ed. Note: Would that make life easier for you, Paula?] Moni thinks a second. “I don’t believe so.” Paula tries to nail her again; “you believe not, or could it be that the possibility exists?” Moni retorts that this story was totally unforeseen for her, she’s still in the stage of trying to assimilate all that has happened, and what’s important is not what Moni still feels for CL, but it’s most important that little by little she’s accepting that she’s no longer part of his life nor he of hers. Paula scoffs [Ed. Note: so gracious. Sheesh.] She imagines; it must be very difficult to work in the same office. Moni denies that; it’s actually been like therapy. Seeing him every day and knowing he’s “a stranger” is a good way to know it’s over. Paula eyes her in disbelief. CL is wheeled up with his minimal patient gown on; he’s impactado to see his wife with his ex. She’s righteously indignant, arms crossed and not willing to face him fully, looking down her nose at the pobrecito [Okay, he’s not really, but give the patient a break for a few minutes, witch]. He wonders what she’s doing there. Paula just gives him an indignant stare.

A little fiesta is being held in the once spider-infested building, which is now cheery and clean. The party guests are Herbierto, Erlinda, Anga, Susana, Juan and Molondrón. The girls are serving and the boys are eating. The world is spinning properly in Achichipico. There’s a pile of food on the table [on plates, of course]. Juan is oohing over the meal, and Molondrón changes the subject—who would have said they’d transform this into a tremendous office like this? They deserve congratulations! Juan jumps to his feet to offer applause. They all jump and applaud themselves…except Herbierto, who predictably keeps stuffing his face. Or his beer gut. Susana grabs Juan for a hug and kiss, and Erlinda is predictably irritated. Juan wants to know why Herbierto didn’t applaud with them and the Tweedle retorts—with his mouth totally full-- for Juan to leave him to eat in peace. Juan presents the idea to them that Anga’s going to host an inauguration party tonight. Apparently, this is news to Anga, who could choke as a result here. He stares at Juan, who continues to describe how they’ll all go home and clean up, and reassemble at 9:00 [Ed. Note: that’s my bedtime. They’re just beginning to party? ¡Ay!]. He gives Molondrón some directions for decorating and tells Anga to get to the bank and cover the bills for the big blowout. Anga looks impactado yet again, the guy who’s not supposed to experience any strong emotions or it could kill him. [Ed. Note: we hope the addendum he wanted to put onto his will is done]. Juan babbles on—he wants someone to pass him the toasted pig skin.

Paula has come over to CL’s wheelchair to address him head-on. She scolds him because he hadn’t told her he wasn’t feeling well. Doesn’t he think he should have? He didn’t want her to worry, CL tells Paula. Moni hovers in the background, taking this tender scene in. Paula scolds that of course she’s worried. She could have come with him. He seems a little bemused; it’s an examination that’s not too important. She points out she thought there were in a period of rebuilding their trust. CL tells her he’s not really sure what period they are in, what he should share with her and what he shouldn’t. Paula looks over her shoulder at Moni, who gives a little smirk. Paula turns back and asks because of that, is that why he wanted to share it with his ex? He points out that Moni offered, and got him the appointment. Paula scoffs sarcastically; what a good person Moni is. What an excellent ex wife he has, right? He tries to explain and Paula cuts him off; Moni told her. Enough already. CL tries to take her hand and finally traps it; it isn’t that he wanted to irritate her [Ed. Note: who would? She’s a world-class witch when she’s irritated.] She continues sarcastically; who wouldn’t feel delighted that CL could share this experience with his ex? CL kisses her hand, and if she wants, he’ll tell Moni this instant thanks for her company, and she can go home and Paula will stay. Paula ungraciously tells him to not even think about making her look like a foolish child. [Ed. Note: Why not? You’ve already done the heavy lifting on that, Paula]. He tells her that nothing has happened and what’s more, he’s glad she’s here. He pulls her down for a kiss. She smiles at him lovingly [Whew, that turnaround made my head spin] and CL tells her she’s jealous. She denies it. Moni continues to hover in the background, looking a little alarmed over the turn of events. CL shakes his finger fondly, yep, it’s true. The nurse comes to take him off for more tests. He wants another minute or two; the nurse tells him she’ll be right back for him. He tells Paula the most difficult tests are yet to come; the blood tests [Coward! But, it takes one to know one]. All those tests that these folks want him to take in a single day, they’re going to dissect him (disecar). Paula responds with more caring. She jokes and kneels at his level, still holding his hand. Moni looks uncomfortable as she fidgets behind them. There’s a dicho here “si se te quita lo payaso” and I can’t figure it out. Help, Maricruz or someone? CL looks at Paula lovingly (sincere? Puede ser.) He wants to know for sure she’s not mad with him. She says she’s not, finally smiling broadly. Moni looks dissssgusted. He wants to know if she’s going to stay, and she teases; she’ not sure. He shakes his finger and tells her he’s leaving if she doesn’t agree right now. She promises to stay and he demands a little kiss on his cheek, which she obligingly gives. CL wants another. And another. She laughs and the nurse comes to take him away. He tells her to wait over his shoulder as he’s wheeled out. Paula and Moni eye each other…..

The doc and a fully dressed CL meet in the office to look at preliminary results. The doc wonders if CL has been stressed and not eating well. CL acknowledges that might be the case. Is that why he had the pain? It’s a possibility. CL protests; he told the doc he’s a healthy man. Whatever, the doc says (however), I want you to see a urologist. CL is impactado. Huh? The doc delivers a Univision PSA. Has CL ever had a prostate exam? CL throws back his head and scoffs with laughter. Whatever for? The doc continues with the PSA. After 40, guys gotta have the exams, at the very least once a year. CL tells the doc it’s not bothering him. The doc says that’s no guarantee everything is okay. One of the blood tests showed something troublesome. He’s got CL’s attention now. What? Well, not to alarm CL, it could be something or it could be nothing. That’s why he wants CL to see the urologist. [Ed. Note: right about now my hubby would be saying “ewww.] He wants CL to see the urologist Right Now. Nope, CL tells him, not doing it. The doc insists; the urologist is on the next floor. Nope, not doing it. He’s already lost an entire day. Tomorrow. The doc seizes the day and the telephone; he calls and sets up the appointment much to CL’s irritation. CL is Not a Happy Camper.

Moni is returning to the waiting room with snacks and offers Paula a cookie (galleta). Paula declines but stops reading her magazine. It surprises her that the examination is taking a full day. Moni is sure it’s head to foot, because their family practitioner is a perfectionist. [Hm, how is Paula going to feel about CL going to his and Moni’s family doc still? There’s a subtle barb.] CL strolls in. What do the girls think? He’s in perfect shape! It’s as if he was still 20! He puts his arm around Paula. Well, Moni wants to know, why the pains? He explains it’s stress and bad eating habits. Did I tell you, or what? Moni asks. Yep, I accept that it’s my fault, he acknowledges, then looks back at Paula. He asks her if they can go now. Moni wants to know if she brought her car. She did; they tap dance around him going with Paula or Moni, who supposes they don’t need her now, and Paula offers to just go on home-- but he thanks Moni for all her help because he’s obviously going home with Paula. Moni is disappointed but loses somewhat gracefully – for now—it was a great pleasure. Moni does get in a last sarcastic dig about what a great pleasure it was to see Paula, who tells her “same to ya.” (Igualmente). Moni gives CL a little hug and peck on the cheek. He looks at her like a dope. Then he turns to Paula, knowing that her eyes are glued on Moni with a glare. He’s in the catbird seat, as my Southern Boy hubby says—Paula is jealous. Paula tells him really, he could go with Moni. He begs her to take him. They go off with him following her; hands on her shoulders and biting his lip in anticipation…

Consuelo is muy impactada to see Paula come back to the apartment with CL. She Very Effectively feigns pleased excitement to see the Seño home! She was leaving, but she’ll hang out and warm the dinner if Paula is staying. And by the by, listen assiduously to any casual conversation they might have….which they do and she does. CL seizes on this and convinces Paula to stay.

Moni, on the other hand is less than pleased with how it all came down. She’s yelling about that stupid woman. She stayed the whole blessed day waiting to see what the examinations showed. Paula arrived just in time to scold Moni, why hadn’t Paula been informed, and because Moni was the one there, it turns out the offended party is Paula! Moni is totally incensed with this turn of events. Laura wonders why she’s got her knickers in a knot; it’s logical that the wife might want to know what’s up. Moni yells that this left her UPSET. So, so, so bad! Laura points out that nothing’s going to change if she keeps doing what she did today. Moni shakes her finger at her cousin; this remains to be seen. Moni tells her to remember she has a vengeance to collect. Laura points out that every day it gives her more pain. But it’s her life. It looks like in the end no one is going to take that obsession away from Moni. Moni asserts that today she lost a battle but she’s still going to win the war. She resents the existence of this imbecile.

Paula has stayed with CL for dinner, but is trying to convince Ana over the phone that it’ll be okay and she should calm down. CL comes behind her and wonders if Ana wasn’t amused that Paula’s going to have dinner with him. Paula points out they’ve been doing so well and they wouldn’t want to lose that. He agrees, she’s right, and he’s brought her a little tequila to whet her appetite. They clink glasses and drink to their health.

A phone jars us and we see that Marely is getting a call. Surprise, it’s Fernando. He asks how she is and she tells him fine; but he says it doesn’t seem like it. She fills him in a little. Nidia thinks they’re all trying to drive her crazy. She wonders why he hasn’t left yet. He’s not been able to leave on the bus tonight for his trip, and is staying in a hotel near the bus station, so he thought he’d call to tell her good night. Marely smiles shyly and thanks him. He tells her to rest and not worry too much for Nidia; he know that Nidia adores Marely. Marely hopes so and thanks him again. She tells him that she loves it that he calls her. He tells her he needed to hear her, and bids her goodbye “”until my return.” Marely smiles happily and hopefully for the first time in centuries as she hang up.

Our Juan is dressed to the nines (or more) with snakeskin boots, we see as the camera starts at the bottom and pans upward. Molondrón is admiring Juan’s garb, wondering where Juan came by it. He’s not too shabby himself with the crisp whites and the white ten-gallon hat. Juan tells him to listen to the cough….and explains how he “came by” the clothes. If anyone caught all he’s saying about guarding Delfi’s part in it, please feel free to fill us in! Juanito rushes in; he wants to know how Papi thinks he looks. [Cute as a button, if you ask us.] Juan compliments Juanito effusively and says they better get moving because they want to be the first ones there. Molondrón wants to know if it isn’t that Juan wants to impress Susana. Molondrón is mournful about Erlinda, though. Juan gives him a pep talk about what Molondrón should be doing to comfort her. Juanito is listening closely; he has a lady to impress, too. Juan tells Molondrón to use his little rhymes and songs to enchant the lady. Molondrón points out this lady is very enamored of Juan; Juan doesn’t want to hear of it. He wants Molondrón to take advantage of her being a new, rowdy little thing of today (instead of a nun?). Write a little ditty, and declare it – play it for all it’s worth, play to win! But, Molondrón doubts, isn’t it a little fast? Nope, Juan assures him. Go for it. Don’t leave for tomorrow what you can do today. Juanito listens raptly to his Papi’s palavering. Juan tells Molondrón how to behave—what makes the gals sit up and take notice is a guy who’s bold, arrogant…has substance! Juan thought bubbles that the lecture he was giving Molondrón was being heard and carefully noted by his own son, he continues that Juan himself was to find out he was wrong about love and women, and giving him a blind person’s cane (misleading him, my loose interpretation of “dar palos de ciego,” giving canes to blind folks or giving him a cane for a blind person). Juan dances as he talks to himself. He continues that this is the first day of the rest of his life, and he’s going to take advantage of the opportunity with Susana and go directly to her heart. Molondrón and Juanito talk amongst themselves while Juan is lost in thought bubbling.

Consuelo offers a coffee, which Paula refuses, and checks her watch. Oh, it’s late! Time to go! CL begs her not to leave, instead to spend the night with him. Paula is mildly commercial impactada. [Well, what DID you expect? You know your hubby well enough by now].

CL hasn’t given up while we heard about Desperate Housewives and Guapos. [Uh, that’s two separate programs, though.] He’s stroking her arm and giving her all the reasons why it would be a Good Idea for her to Stay. Tomorrow she can go back to her Mami’s house. He kisses her fingers. Puh-leeeeze!???? It’s been a long time…..She begs him to lay off. He tells her this has been such a special night that he doesn’t want it to end. Ever. Consuelo is taking notes. CL tells Paula he suddenly feels like he did in those best moments of their relationship. [Ed. Question: Which two moments were those, anyway?] Does she remember? When they were a happy pair? [Ed. Note: okay, maybe it wasn’t even two moments.] She tries to get him to drop it. [Anyone in the audience want to make book on who’s winning?] Consuelo shakes her head nervously, silently willing Paula not to stay.

Casimiro is back doing what he does best; telling lies and playing pool. [Ed. Note: “Telling Lies” is a Southern Dicho—my hubby and his brother talk about doing that when they just sit down to talk and tell jokes to each other.] Herbierto finds him and complains that he’s still there. Then he tells Casimiro to get duded up because they’re going to the party (guateque—party or binge. In the case of Tweedledum and Tweedledee, it’s one and the same). T2 doesn’t Think So. He’s not up for a party, and much less one that celebrates Juan’s new enterprise. T1 tells him not to be a dunce. They’re not giving up their vengeance, quite the opposite; they’re going to put the final period on Juan. Casimiro wants to know what his bosom buddy has in mind. What else? Bring Juan down in front of Susana. What? She’s back?? Yep. Just today, and we can’t let Juan have the advantage. Tonight will be historic, Casimiro, listen up. T2 looks at him in disbelief. Herbierto gets up and gets the attention of everyone. He tells them to listen up, too—tonight ends the reign of Juan Dominguez in Achichipico! Now everyone is going to know who Herbierto Chávez is! He looks around, daring anyone to disagree.

Speaking of los Chávez, Erlinda cleans up quite well. She’s checking the mirror as she smoothes more make-up on. Aldemar strolls in exclaiming over his “lively girl.” (Pizpireta, not to be confused with a pirata.) She thanks him with a lovely smile, but wants to know if he doesn’t think her décolletage is a bit too low (escotado, low cut)? He denies that [Ed. Note: And he hasn’t even seen Ivonne or Paula at their best], because one has to know the right time to display the family jewels and to whom. [Joyas, jewels, and seems a little risqué for a Papi to say to a daughter, if you ask me!] She wants to know what if this guy she loves doesn’t want to see it? Aldemar just can’t wrap his brain around that—irresistible Juan can’t help but take notice. Erlinda is a little dubious—let’s hope so. He assures her that’s nonsense, he’s going to be paying attention right away. Erlinda looks encouraged, but still a little doubtful. Papi tells her that even Herbierto’s getting cleaned up pretty well. Erlinda’s curious and Aldemar drops that Tweedle Dumb has eyes on Susana. Tonight he’s going to let the dogs loose and Aldemar brags that he knows she’s a smart cookie, so she won’t pass up the opportunity to get married to the son of Aldemar Chávez. [Ed. Note: Huy, talk about needing a reality check!] Erlinda really is doubtful about this, perhaps the gal is looking on some other side? Aldemar acknowledges that T1 is lazy (holgazán), pretty rough around the edges (brutote), but he’s definitely not ugly. [Ed. Note: no, on second thought, there’s no Ed. Note that’s sufficient to express my shock and awe at Aldemar’s assessment of his hijo.] In the background we see Erlinda’s complete collection of nearly identical dolls with nearly identical but differently colored dresses, all of which look pretty Castiliana and though they aren’t what we in education call “age-appropriate,” they are definitely Erlinda-appropriate. Erlinda looks about as good as we’ve seen her, which ain’t sayin’ much, but she still has the 10-year old hairstyle. The blouse is definitely tight so if Juan’s gonna notice, it’s now or never. Aldemar babbles on. He admits that now that the kids look close to settling down (sentar la cabeza), he’s thinking about taking up with someone and looking for love in all the right places. Someone to warm his feet in the night (una mujer que me caliente las patas en la noche), for the years that remain. Erl kisses him; he deserves it and that would make her happy. He chuckles that some lucky gal deserves him, too. She asks if he’s got his eye on anyone? Aldemar’s spent years circling the town like a buzzard over the ravines, and he has someone in his sights—does she know whom? Doña Delfina! And this very night he’s going to give it his best shot (le echo bala – I fire a shot). Erl tells him that’s good….but we have our doubts…..

Ana is surprised that Paula has called to say she’s not coming home to sleep. Does Mami have some objection, Paula wonders? Nooooo. She’s not a child any more. She is staying with her HUSBAND, after all. Aside from the fact that it’s legal, it looks like that’s what Paula wants, huh? Paula affirms it is, but she has her arms crossed so her body language makes us wonder, too. She just didn’t want Mami to worry. Ana cautions Paula and reminds her that CL doesn’t fight fair (I think that’s what it was, but if not, someone fill in). Paula protests and Ana agrees she’s right, Ana shouldn’t be messing in her life. Consuelo is still taking notes. Paula tells Mami just not to worry if she arrives muuuuch later and bids her goodbye. She smiles and hangs up, oblivious to Consuelo scuttling off like a big cockroach when the light comes on.

The party will be grand indeed; outside and inside are both decorated and the local band is lively. Town folk stream in for the festivities. Juan’s voice is heard welcoming them as we note that the Tweedles probably will be happy with the spread. Juan looks it over and straightens trays of delicacies while Erl and the Tweedles talk behind him; Erl’s gaze is trained on Juan’s…..back. Juanito greets folks with a handshake, watching hopefully for his special guest—la Maestra with the lovely smile! Here she is! And she’s got a little peck on the cheek for Juanito, whose eyes glaze over as we hear a bell ring while his angel moves on. She is resplendent in pink; surely she is the prettiest schoolmarm in the world. Delfi flirts by fanning herself, and exclaims to Anga that Juan’s not the only one cutting a fine figure (all dressed up, echando tiros), look at Anga himself! Anga is indeed; his suit is very distinguished with a white shirt and tie, and his hat sets it off nicely. She’s lovely in a striking red dress and has hair decorated to complement the dress with a red and gold bow. Anga gives her an expansive compliment about certain ladies who are just impressing/overwhelming anyone there, which makes her smile coquettishly. She responds “thank you for the compliment, future husband,’ which makes Anga choke on his refreshments (a shot of tequila among other things). She asks about setting the date, and he bolts down the last of the tequila. If she tells him when and where, he’ll be there!

Molondrón and Juanito wind their way through the crowd to Juan; Molondrón tells Juan that the guests are pretty much all here, and the party crashers (gorrones-spongers), too. Molondrón indicates that this party’s going to be a real success (the plaza will be too small). Juan points out that the idea is to make some noise. They chitchat about the details and the party, and talk about who’s paying—Anga, just go ask him, Molondrón and he’ll pay. Molo is not thrilled. Why should he be the one? He urges Juan to do it. Juan gives in, and Susana comes in calling out to Juan. She, too, is pretty in pink. Erl and Herbierto take note, neither thrilled with her greeting to Juan. Juan, however, thought bubbles to the blessed God. What he’s seen in this life convinces him he won’t need to go to heaven. She chuckles and smiles, greeting him, and Juan is as glazed as his son was with the teacher. Juan can only thought bubble and salivate with his jaw hitting the floor. Susana looks around while Erl hovers, irritated and worried, in the background (and looking pretty darn nice herself). Susana is worried that there’s a problem, but having seen none, turns back to Juan who tells her there’s no problem—it’s just that tonight she looks positively spectacular and like a beauty queen. He leans close to tell her the last part quietly. She thanks him shyly and tells him how handsome he is as well. His eyes get big. (In addition to the snakeskin boots noted before, he has black jeans, and his black ten-gallon hat has a white snakeskin-looking band on it, his vest is black leather-looking fabric or satin, with a yoke design of black and white snakeskin print. His shirt is dark pink and white paisley design and reminds one of Aloha Friday on ‘Oahu, which should really clash noisily with the vest, but Juan tends to pull off most outfits with minimal visual distress to the viewer. My hubby says that’s just because we gals are so enamored of his looks, it doesn’t matter what he has on. Or off. Hubby says he’s about the only guy who can pull off wearing a pink shirt, too. That’s a quote.) Susana’s going off to greet folks and they’ll chat later. They lean in coquettishly to each other; Molo is observing with pleasure and Erl and T1 with intense irritation. Susana is a picture of high fashion, which Juan just has to note to Molo as she walks off and we get a view of her departing derriere, clad beautifully in a long black skirt (to go with that pink v-neck sleeveless top), and with a lovely pink and multi-colored floral design that doesn’t overwhelm the eye. Speaking of top, Susana has never ONCE worn anything that could be described as over-the-top. This is refreshing, though it probably doesn’t appeal as much to our male viewers. Juan thought bubbles; who would have thought it! The opening of his office! And with all the notable folks of the town. He fondly touches Juanito’s little face as we see Anga, Delfi and Susana chat with the police chief. Juan continues that there are all the civil authorities and religious leaders….we see Aldemar with the priest. The Tweedles and Erl keep close watch over Juan in the background; T2 is the man in black tonight, looking menacing and probably feeling menacing as well. Juan thinks that only one thing could have improved this lovely event, if Kike, Fernando, the Cachones, and of course, his little dove could be there. He mourns how his heart aches just to say her name, but pastes a smile on as he rests his hands on Juanito’s shoulders.

Moni is getting the scoop from Consuelo. Consuelo hasn’t called because nothing new has happened, but tonight there’s a new development. What happened? Paula came over for dinner and they’re having a slumber party! What? She accepted? Yep. Laura comes in to hear the conversation. Well, Consuelo continues, at first she was nervous, but she’s staying. She regrets to tell Moni that they seem a bit exited (animadones, high-spirited, encouraged) about it. Moni thanks her and asks for updates. Consuelo apologizes, she just thought Moni should know the truth. She tells Moni to have a good evening. As if.

Moni hangs up and turns sadly to Laura, giving in to her heartbreak again. Laura wonders about that expression; what’s up? Moni doesn’t want to talk about it. She runs to her room and collapses against the wall in tears, trying to keep herself from screaming with the pain, and tears running down her cheeks.

The Odd Couple and the sleazy software pirate have to discuss business while they eat in Gutis’ apartment. The SSP has a catalog to use in the demos they’ll do for Farell; what? It’s in ENGLISH! The boys scoff at Perafán, what, he doesn’t know the dominant language? Nope, he only knows Zapoteco (El idioma zapoteco (diidzaj), hablado por 785.000 personas en Oaxaca y otros lugares…The language of the Zapotec Indians, spoken by 785,000 people in Oaxaca and other places, etc.—from Wikipedia ....This sounds like a real politically incorrect cultural slur to us, doesn’t it?). Perafán is irritated. The boys continue to scoff and pick on Perafán. [Couldn’t happen to a better person. And, it probably wouldn’t happen to a better person.] He retorts and asks them to puh-leeze put their drinks on coasters. He thumps the SSP’s beer onto a coaster to demonstrate. It’ll mark up the table. Gutis doesn’t give a rip and it’s his table. Don’t get so steamed, you’re my GUEST. Delirio is steamed, though. He points out he knows this is a little joke for them to pass the time. For him, it’s his livelihood (his job) they’re discussing. With all due pomposity, he declares that at noon tomorrow the boys are going to present about the virtues and advantages of the software. In front of the big boss and the terrible little toupeed man. The boys choke and point to themselves and each other in total alarm. Us, no way!??!! Yes, YOU, sirs. The SSP confesses he really doesn’t know a whole lot about computers. [Sheesh. He’s not even a good software pirate.] Gutis insults his buddy [feel free to translate what he actually said, anyone, “era distribudador de maranilla adulterada” I hate to think what it might mean, I am a schoolmarm, after all]. Delirio yells about his fate; what’s he gotten mixed up in! Gods of Olympus! It’s a tragedy! He throws his towel down and throws himself onto the sofa.

Susan and Juan happily watch the festivities while Molo asks Erl if she wants something to drink. She turns from her careful scrutiny of Juan and Susana to politely decline. Molo is disappointed. He asks if she wants to play and she whips around—PARDON? Molo corrects himself, does she want to dance? With who? Molo sighs in frustration while Juan and Susana share a private laugh and Erl glares at them. Well, Molo retorts gently, with ME. Erl turns back to him and declines politely—maybe a little later. Molo’s disappointment is tangible. Susana’s and Juan’s happy moment is about to burst. Here comes Tweedle 1. He greets them and asks if he could have the honor (of a dance). Susana whips back to Juan and says that she’s spoken for, right? Right? Juan jumps in, oh, yeah, we’re dancing. They rush out to the floor and cut a rug to the local band’s rendition of cachi-cachi bombon. Juanito dances over to his beloved teacher, his little hands mimicking Papi’s. Erl sends fiery darts at Susana and Juan who are still whooping it up as Aldemar decides to strike while the iron is hot. He crosses the floor to invade Anga’s space. But, he decides better of it when he sees how closely Anga has Delfi while they dance. He culls Erl out of the herd and asks qué the heck is she doing dancing with “that one” when she’s really supposed to whispering sweet nothings (engatusar-sweet-talking) to Juan? She glares at Papi since there’s nothing else for her to do at the moment.

Molo crosses the floor, and Anga cuts away from Aldemar to ask what’s wrong, and why is Aldemar meddling between Molo and Erl? [That’s nice, Anga is taking up for Molo. Maybe he’s decided Molo’s not such a bad bet since he worked so hard on cleaning that office.] Molo laments that Don Alde doesn’t want her dancing with Molo, only with Juan. “And you know what? He’s right. I’m a good for nothing. (muerto de hambre).” Anga won’t let him put himself down [there’s a new twist!] and tells him to cut it out, he’s going to make Anga mad. He gives Molo a short pep talk. Meanwhile, Aldemar has seized his advantage; he culls Delfi out of the herd for a short face to face. In a quiet place. Delfi doesn’t understand what’s so urgent as he draws her outside. Why is he so quiet right now, too? He says he’s even amazed himself. It’s been several Aprils since he exercised those functions. It’s not as easy as it used to be. Delfina, like us, is mystified. Qué the heck? What functions? He tries to explain delicately—functions of the human body (organism, double entendre implied because it sounds like Humanitarian Organization). He shrugs, and maybe she’ll get it. She wonders if he means he’s working in the United Nations on human rights kinds of stuff. He tries to clarify again for our Delfi, who isn’t even a blonde. He tells her he’s talking about united souls! Delfi begins to get it. He continues that when folks reach a certain age, stage of widowhood or widowerhood, etc., well, their bodies aren’t in the bloom of youth, but they might still have a few lively vices (spirited “bad habits” - resabios jacarandosos). He leans over to breathe on her neck, almost whispering. Delfi is getting it. “Don Aldemar, are you declaring your love to me?” She’s so perceptive, he tells her, raising her hand for a kiss. He looks at her lovingly while she ponders this. [Not to put too fine a point on it, Delfi, but don’t you already have one proposal of marriage on the table—the one you made to Anga?]

Back inside, Anga is still giving Molo encouragement. Susana is enchanted; she’s never seen a party quite like it! [No doubt.] Juan assures her this is because of the commitment the People of Achichipico have to the project. She’s wondering why he isn’t making a little speech to them. Why should he do that, Juan wonders? She tells him is customary at an inauguration to say a few words to the guests, make a toast. Juan, every the big talker, thinks he’s not much of a public speaker. She scoffs fondly. Of course he can do this! He’s an artist with words! Could it be that he has a little stage fright? What, me? Juan launches into it with gusto. He stops the band, and makes his speech. Tweedle Dumb wants to know what this clown is going to do now? [Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!] Casimiro thinks he’s pulled it all off so far, and Susana’s on board (he’s brought her along like a hobbled horse—garrapata, a disabled horse, but hobbled means he’s taming her down with the right restraint system so I’m loosely interpreting). Herbierto protests. It’s because Juan’s the host (anfitrión) and has to have her at his side. Tweedle Dee scoffs at his reasoning. They get up to listen. Juan welcomes the dignitaries by position. He promotes the priest to cardinal, which makes the priest gasp in pleasure but he corrects Juan, though he appreciates the promotion. He welcomes them all on behalf of himself and his partners. He wants to express his gratitude that they have all come to share this historic event for their town. They all cheer and clap. Except the Tweedles. Juan thought bubbles; he’s taken up the challenge with the heavies of the community tonight. But he realizes his words aren’t sitting well with Herbierto, whose arms are crossed and facial expression grim. Juan continues to thought bubble while we see him utter profundities to the crowd, judging by their rapt expressions. [If anyone wants to translate his thought bubble, I could use the help. It only marginally made sense to me.] The crowd claps again.

Among those not clapping are Delfi and Aldemar, who are still messing around outside. [Okay, not literally messing around.] Aldemar is still declaring his intentions; he wants to heap attention on her, give her things, and in general be head over heels in love. She says how nice that is for her, because guys aren’t many of the old-fashioned gentlemen around. [Delfi, qué the heck? You’re engaged! But, we have to keep in mind she IS Nidia’s cousin. Blood will tell.] He tells her he’s from the last century [but we knew that, judging by how he is with his kids.] Conservative but with the strength of a mule. Aldemar continues with his words of love and she giggles at the idea. He reaches for her, and she has the grace to jump back, hold on a minute. This is all happening pretty fast. [Yep, especially given that you already have a fish in the pan.] He tries to coax her trust in him. She points out this was pretty disconcerting and unexpected. He tells her how lovely she is, and she postures but pushes him away. He tells her he doesn’t want just a torrid passion. [??!!! Uh-huh.] She’s worth the trouble of gambling his life on her. She looks shocked by the idea and tells him he’s not the only guy who has his hopes set on her. He’s confident he’ll win her favor, though. A Chávez always welcomes rivals. The only thing he asks is that she lets him formally present himself to her, and let him be the official candidate. Or, would he be wasting his time? She hedges…..and squirms….

The Tweedles may not be enjoying the total ambiance, but the tequila suits them. Tweedle Dumb is telling his fellow Tweedle how disgusted he is that the greatest liar in the history of Achichipico is getting by with all this. But, the big-talker falls quicker than a guy with a limp [more politically incorrect Herbiertoisms.] Casimiro points out it ain’t happenin’ yet, and Herbierto asserts that Juan’s gonna take a fall, wait and see. Casimiro looks disgusted with his blockhead bud.

Susana loved Juan’s speech. He kisses her hands as Anga, Juanito and Molo look on. Juan thinks critics feel he might have gone on a little long, huh? Juanito’s little head nods in agreement. Susana acknowledges it Might Have Been a Little Long, but his reasons were sincere. He wonders if his words might have caught her attention (calaron, which doesn’t mean exactly this but the context dictates it), and she agrees that his words profoundly caught her attention. He handles the language to perfection. Read that: Juan can hablablablabla. Juanito makes that little chin-rubbing gesture he sees his Papi making all the time. The Tweedles toss back a pair of shots and look more determined than ever.

Outside, Aldemar and Delfi continue their dialogue; she’s told him from the beginning that she’s open to a respectable deal, but she’s not giving a definite yes. [We hope not.] Aldemar utters some more sweet nothings; he’ll wait and it’ll give him a reason to live. She tells him they’d better get inside, because the town gossips will go to town with this. Off Delfi goes, mincing….gee, that looks familiar. He calls her back with another proposal. After the fiesta is done, how about they go off someplace private—her house-- and get more deeply acquainted? [Yes, he DID use the word deeply – a fondo, deep, bottom, which can also mean bed, like a river bed. DOM.] She reluctantly agrees. He reminds her above all he’s a gentleman. She smiles….

Susana plays with Juan’s hat while Juan saunters over to the food table where he finds Erl. She makes a snide comment and he tells her he’s offended. She makes another snide comment, this time about “that Susana.” Juan pours himself a shot. He says he’s not looking for Susana, he’s looking for Erl’s father. Has she seen him? Nope. He went out a while ago with Delfi. To talk or what? She explains that according to her Papi, he’s looking for a woman to warm his feet at night. He starts to complain and Erl points to the door, where Delfi is mincing in with a smug Aldemar trailing. Juan looks downright distressed.

Marely comes down the stairs, puzzled at Nidia dusting knick-knacks in the living room. Qué the heck? Nidia tells Marely she’s cleaning, what does it look like? It never occurs to that Maria to do it. Maria? Yes, I’ve been thinking of letting her go. I’ve been patient, but this is too much. Marely tries to explain that Maria’s been gone from this house for ten years or so. Nidia doesn’t believe her and tells her fine, let me do my thing and you go do yours. I’m waiting for your father to get home, so Marely tries another tack. She wants to show Nidia something (we notice a sculpture/painting of a nude hanging over the fireplace that really hasn’t gotten a lot of air time up until now; but Nidia turns around from dusting it as Marely speaks). Marely runs off.

Molo calls everyone to attention and sings about the woman of his dreams. Erl smiles fondly at him; is there hope? Juanito sighs with pleasure and his teacher claps while she smiles broadly. Juanito glazes with a stare at her. Molo sings about his lover and the priest looks scandalized and crosses himself. The crowd listens raptly as Molo sings….Juanito struts over to his teacher, who is standing Very Close to the police chief—Susana and Juan exchange a look-they’re getting a kick out of Juanito’s strut. Juanito puts his elbow out for his teacher to link her hand through it and she smiles fondly and complies. Juan thought bubbles about his boy—here he looks like Juan in his 20s. Juan’s beginning to understand why Juanito can’t wait to get to school every day. Juan waxes eloquent to himself about how that first love affects us all.

Marely has fetched the family album. She tells Nidia to take this as calmly as she can; Nidia remarks “what a mystery!” She’s seen the family album lots of times. Marely explains that Nidia thinks they’re trying to give her problems, but Nidia really needs to see this for herself. Whoops, it’s the latest one; Nidia opens with a picture of her wedding to Alirio. Nidia is in shock. This gal looks just like her! Marely sighs; it IS you. Nidia thinks it’s a costume party, but Marely retorts gently that it’s her wedding day. Nidia cannot believe it….her, married to this LICENCIADO? [It always sounds like a curse word when she says it about Delirio.] Nidia can’t believe she could have done such a thing. Where’s Samuel in all this? Marely gets teary and explains that he’s dead, a suicide. Nidia is impactidissima. If there is such a word.

CL waits in bed for Paula, shiny royal blue jammies and all. Paula, on the other hand, looks much better in his shirt than she does in any of her own clothes. It covers way more, too. He tells her to excuse him, but she’s absolutely divine. She thinks she’d look better in her jammies. CL doesn’t care; she looks best in his bedroom. She gets into bed with him, uncomfortable, and he turns to talk…about her not getting the wrong idea. He didn’t ask her to stay to…..um…..she understands. “Until tomorrow” they tell each other awkwardly. He turns back to her yet again; could he give her a little good night kiss? Sure, one. Would she let him give her another? Yeah. She laughs. He comes back and she smiles at his game—would you let me give me the final one? The last one and that’s it. Ya. She chuckles, doesn’t tell him yes, but doesn’t push away, either. He kisses her again and it’s apparently not really the last one. He goes at her neck and we are left to try and figure out what her facial expression says—discomfort? Lust? Thinking of Juan? They get on in earnest and Paula looks like she might go with the program, stroking his back with her long fingers and recently-done nails. We are reminded that any similarity to real life is purely coincidental.

Quickly we hear cachi-cachi bombon, and a voice over informs us that the Familia P. Luche is the funniest on television. Apparently, the announcer has never seen Nidia and Delirio.

Monday: Will Paula give in or will her willpower kick in? Will Moni kick something or someone? Will Juan and Susana survive the assaults of the Chávez?

Frijolito is busted trying to break out of the orphanage. When he tries to explain his mission to the Mother Superior, he is cut off before he can give the great reveal that would bring about the end to this saga. All he says is that he needs to help their patron. MS tells him all he’s done is make things worse for himself; they’ll probably punish him for years.

Chuco misses Gloria and gives her a call in Guadalajara. He tells her she needs to come back to DF or he’ll go there. Gloria gives Silvana a call to fill her in and Silvana is appropriately worried that Chuco’s arrival would ruin her plans. While on the phone with her daughter, Gloria refers to Azulcena as Azul, which Azulcena overhears. She demands to know what’s going on. Silvana overhears the commotion on the other end and she tells her mom that she’s coming there; she needs to deal with this in person.

Diego tells his mother about his proposal to Silvana. Clemi is happy to know that Diego is willing to make this kind of sacrifice for his child (twisted, warped thinking, IMO). Diego tells Clemi that Silvana didn’t say yes; instead, she says she’s got to think about it. Clemi finds this a bit strange, but then moves onto other gossip. She gives Diego the low down on what happened with Lidia and Tavo.

Speaking of Tavo, he’s getting an “I told you so” lecture from Efrain. Tavo knows that he was insecure and now he’s sure of Lidia’s love. She’s changed and he didn’t. Diego shows up to beat Tavo up for hurting his sister---what a mature way to handle the situation. Tavo does a good job convincing Diego that he truly loves his sister because the next time we see Diego, he’s talking to Lidia about forgiving Tavo and never giving up on your true love. Tavo’s next scene is him telling Efrain that he’s going to get Lidia back.

Silvana shows up in Guadalajara. Gloria tells her daughter that she can’t continue helping her. Silvana begs and cries. She tells Gloria that Diego proposed to her and if he finds out that Azul is alive, he’ll abandon her and her baby. Gloria doesn’t seem to fall for the crocodile tears, though she is moved by her daughter’s plight. Silvana switches to full out emotional blackmail. She tells her mother that she must prefer Azul over her and that if Gloria is not with her, then she’s against her (it is really a black and white world that Silvana lives in). Gloria tries to reason with her, but it is in vain. She tells Silvana that Azulcena now knows who she is. Silvana wants an Azulcena update before she talks to her. Gloria says that after she hung up the phone, Azulcena was in such a state they called the doctor. Silvana’s upset that something might have happened to the baby. Gloria assures her that everything’s fine, but Azulcena has to rest. Silvana goes to talk to her rival.

In her room, Azul confronts Silvana. She wants to know why this is the second time that someone’s called her Azul. She knows that Silvana knows who she really is and she demands to be told her identity. Silvana fesses up some truth---she’s Azul and she is the wife of Diego Moran. Azulcena is shocked; her husband is Silvana’s baby-daddy? Then the lies start to pour out of Silvana. She tells Azulcena that Diego and she have been lovers for quite some time; Diego never loved his wife, didn’t want her to have the baby, and was planning on divorcing her. That’s why when she came up missing he didn’t even bother to look for her. Azulcena says she was married to a some sort of monster. Silvana mentions Caty and this piques Azulcena’s interest. Silvana says that she’s Diego’s adopted daughter and the reason he adopted her was because she was the child of Silvana’s best friend. Azulcena says this all can’t be possible. She demands to know why Silvana didn’t tell her this before. Gloria, who’s been listening at the door, picks this time to come into the conversation, but Silvana shuts her mother down before she can disrupt her string of lies. Silvana shows Azulcena the paper announcing her engagement to Diego. She rubs in that Diego didn’t even wait two months after Azul’s “death” to propose. Azulcena wants to know what happened, how’d she lose her memory. Silvana says that she found out the truth about Silvana and Diego being lovers and took off upset and had an accident. Azulcena doesn’t understand why no one else looked for her. Silvana tells her that her mom’s dead and her father is a work-a-holic who’s got no time for her. Azulcena questions why Silvana’s been trying to help her. Silvana says she felt bad that Diego never loved her and she was just trying to help Azulcena build a new life. Azulcena calls her a manipulator. Silvana says she’s told Diego that Azul’s alive but he wanted nothing to do with her any more and he’s happy that she’s found a new man (LuisFe). This is too much for Azulcena to take and she faints.

Julio and Arnie are helping celebrate the end of Emilia’s first trimester with her and Alfredo. Alfie even brought her a gift for the baby. He presents her with a life insurance policy, just in case something were to happen to him he wants to make sure that he’s provided for his child. Mario makes a house call and gives Emilia the ‘all’s well’ clearance. He suggests she might want to have an amnio, but she tells him that she and Alfie have decided that no matter what, they are having this baby so there is no real reason to find out if anything is wrong, because it doesn’t matter.

Gloria shows concern for a passed out Azulcena, but Silvana doesn’t seem to be concerned. Gloria is ticked at her daughter’s attitude and she’s even angrier to find out that the baby Azul’s carrying is really Diego’s. Silvana lied to her. Once again, Gloria tries to talk some sense into her daughter. She tells her that she can’t build a marriage based on a lie, that there is time to change her ways. Silvana say nope, I’m going ahead with my plans.
The doctor comes again and says that Azulcena needs to rest. Azulcena informs Silvana that she’s going to leave and won’t ever be a bother to her or Diego. Silvana makes some comment about her having a future with LuisFe.

Manuel shows up to talk to Lidia. He tries to make excuses for missing their dinner plans. Lidia tells him that there will be no wedding. Manuel, ever the sensitive man, says that’s great because Tavo wasn’t a good catch. Lidia kicks him out, but she’s a lot nicer than I would have been in that situation.

Diego has a conversation with Azul’s picture. He wants her to understand why he proposed to Silvana.

Azulcena sneaks out in the night. The next morning Gloria tells Silvana that the bird has flown the coop. Silvana is worried that she’ll head straight to Diego. Gloria is worried that something might happen to Azul, seeing as she’s been ordered to rest. Gloria’s had enough and tells her daughter she won’t be helping her anymore. Silvana whines that Gloria promised to help and anyway, now she’s in too deep. Silvana calls Gloria her accomplice.

Diego and the MS are talking to Frijolito’s lawyer. The abogado tells them that the judge won’t give any lenience to Frijo’s case. He’s going to get the maximum—two years in juvie.

Azulcena has found her way back to the orphanage. She’s stumbling along outside and LuisFe drives up in his pick-up. He rushes out to her and hugs her.

Silvana also happens to be in the neighborhood. She’s on the opposite side of the street. She’s finishing up a call to Chonita, trying to find out if anyone’s called or come looking for Diego (‘cuz Chonita wouldn’t recognize Azul if she showed up on the doorstep? If that were the case, I think it would be the first thing Chonita would say to her). Silvana spots the embrace between Azulcena and LF. She shoots daggers in their direction---she’s got to know that she’s totally screwed. END OF EPISODE.

* Justo sits with Cami in her courtyard. He advises her to forget about Santo and move on with her life, even if it means she has to move away.
* Rico and Claudio return to Cami's house. Claudio wants to go with Rico on the trip; Rico says that wouldn't be wise, he may only complicate the plan. Rico tells Claudio to stay put, Claudio still has doubts. Rico tells Claudio to trust him. Justo bursts onto the street from the gate. He greets Rico and Claudio and then leaves. As Claudio goes to the gate, Rico leaves.

* Caridad lets Claudio inside. Cami and Jimena sit by the fountain. Claudio chats with them about why Rico didn't want to come in - did Cami and he have a fight. Cami shrugs the topic off. Jimena asks where Ascanio is. Claudio says he had a meeting with Don Alberto Lafont. Cami wonders what that is all about.

* Ascanio waits patiently in the reception room. Manuela comes to the doorway of the office, smiles shyly to Ascanio and says her dad will be out to see him soon. She turns, sees her dad standing there and shuffles off quickly. Alberto ushers Ascanio into the office. Ascanio mentions Vasco told him to come and see him. They sit and Ascanio tells Alberto about his position with Don Timoteo and his relationship and living arrangements with Cami at her house. He wants to open his own bakery. Alberto asks him about Lis; Ascanio explains his relationship was only as servant for her father. Alberto ponders the loan for the bakery and says he has no problem as long as Ascanio lives up to his condition - to be absolutely loyal and complete discretion with him. Ascanio is surprised; agrees. Alberto will think about the loan and then asks him about Ricardo Lopez de Carvajal. Ascanio knows very little about him. Alberto is impactado by the answer. Ascanio thanks him for his time and leaves. Alberto ponders.

* Mario and Rico at night on the San Fernando docks. They are wishing they were on the sea again. As they leave the dock, they discuss their plan against Don Alvaro.

* At the campsite en route to San Fernando Valley, pirates play as Lazaro cleans his boots with his knife and asks lots of questions to associate about Rico's plan in town, his hacienda, and Lisabetha's presence. Associate becomes quite annoyed by all of Lazaro's questions - becomes curt with his answers about Tim's inheritance, then joins the others.

* The debauchery of Jorge's man party starts to spill out into the adjoining hall. Fran passes through with her tea tray. She's horrified and stops a moment to gawk through the curtain at the men with the whores. She quickly flies upstairs with her tray.

* In the bedroom, Lis is in her bedclothes. Fran relays what she saw downstairs with Jorge and his men and the whores - she horrified by the sight, sounds and smells. Fran fixes both of them some tea, and wonders about moving to Santo's house - lower class but better morals and cordiality. Lis wonders about Rita and her sister. The conversation circles back to Tim vs. Rico then back to Jorge and his partymates.

* At the party, Alberto and Jorge take a break from the whores and wine to discuss business - Jorge orders Gonzalo to leave his two whores and wine to join them - Gonzalo drinks from a lady's shoe (how disgusting and unsanitary) as Jorge orders Gonzalo to travel to La Mariana.

* Ascanio is drunk and nodding to sleep in the back of a cart on the street. Mario walks past, and hears Ascanio muttering. Mario was at the brothel. Ascanio vents his disgust with his life - no home, no boss, all alone. Mario questions him about his family - Ascanio grumbles about his mother is dead and the rest is far away across the sea. Mario asks if he has a girlfriend. Ascanio says once but she disappeared long ago. Mario says so there can be another. Ascanio says he's tired of all the secrets. Mario prods Ascanio about what secrets he refers. Ascanio starts to blabber about Alberto and Vasco asking about Rico, and then shuts up. Mario prods and presses for more information; Ascanio blabbers about Rico didn't deserve that bad luck. Mario presses and shakes Ascanio to give up the secret information - Ascanio finally breaks down and says Bermejo was paid by Tim and Fran to frame Rico for murder. Mario is impactado. He splashes Ascanio with wine and grumbles. Ascanio complains about Rico's secret from Cami - Mario explains how much Cami has been told by Rico now. Ascanio vents about the secret that Rico is Lis' cousin - Mario reminds Ascanio to continue to keep that a deep dark secret. They continue their conversation. Ascanio reveals that Tim threaten to put him in prison with the murderers if he told anyone about the scheme. Mario says they're all marked Christians, then sits and plies Mario for his loyalty with more wine.

* A knock on the hotel room door. Rico appears in the dark, shirtless and in his short bloomers and leather sandals on. Rico quickly pulls on his shirt, brandishes his sword and answers the door. Mario quickly enters. Rico closes the door and Mario relays to Rico what the drunk Ascanio just told him about Tim and Bermejo - Rico is impactado, can't believe it. Mario says no actual proof other than Ascanio as witness to Tim paying off Bermejo to frame him for the murder, and Ascanio was drunk when he was telling him this. Rico lights a lamp and Mario continues his report about everything Ascanio told him. Ascanio saw Tim pay a money bag to Bermejo in the salon of the house; and Fran was present at the exchange. This hits Rico really hard - he wonders about her involvement. Mario suspects she was also after his father's estate. Rico chokes back the tears and heartache.

* Ascanio staggers back into Cami's courtyard. Jimena comes out to greet him, and notes he's drunk. She asks him what's wrong? He says he's a disgrace and goes inside. She ponders that thought.

* Seated in the hotel room, Mario continues to tell Rico what Ascanio said, about seeing Tim hand the money bag to Bermejo as Fran watched, and Tim seeing Ascanio in the doorway. Rico imagines the sight as it played out. Mario says that after Ascanio escorted Bermejo out of the house, Tim cornered him and threatened to send him to prison for murderers. Rico is upset especially discovering that Fran was part of the scheme. Rico asks Mario who Ascanio murdered? Mario says the guy who raped his sister. Rico pauses and decides he needs to return to La Mariana. Mario, eager to get back to sea life, wants to go with him. Rico says no, he will go alone; Mario tries to change Rico's mind, but Rico says it's an order to be obeyed. Besides the pirates and Lazaro are on their way, and Mario has to stay and handle things there. Rico will leave tomorrow. Mario says not tomorrow, Jorge's party is tomorrow night. Rico says 'the heck with the party'. Mario tells Rico that Vasco and Alberto are asking lots of questions about him so he has to attend the party. Rico asks who told him this? Mario says "Ascanio, Ascanio." They stare at each other.

* Ursula cleans her teeth with something that looks like dirty lard soap. Knock at the door. She swizzles water and spits before answering. Vasco enters and hugs and kisses Ursula. They flirt as they talk about Alberto and Manuela's investigation of Rico. Vasco and Ursula discuss why each wants the information on Rico. Ursula says that her dad is very interested in Cami again. Vasco won't permit him to take advantage of his sister again. Ursula tries to flirt and get Vasco on her side. He's upset by her comparison between their affair and Jorge's obsession with Cami. Ursula wonders about Cami's relationship with Rico. Vasco isn't sure about that. Ursula assumes that Rico and Jorge are rivals. Vasco ends the conversation and leaves for the door. Ursula warns him if he leaves to never return. Vasco takes a deep breath, looks at Ursula and leaves. Ursula is upset and grumbles, "Idiot!"

* At breakfast, Santo, Ofelia and Ines discuss Rico, Lis and Fran's visit to their house yesterday. They discuss the problem between Cami and Lis. Ines gives her favorable opinion about Rico as a gentleman. Santo feels nauseous.

* At Cami's picnic patio area, Claudio tells Cami and Jimena about his meeting with Lis and her aunt and Rico at Ofelia's house, and about Rico's new house. Ascanio wanders outside and joins them. Claudio and Cami asks him about his meeting with Don Alberto. Ascanio apologizes to Cami but he wants to obtain his business dream on his own; refuses to accept her offer for financial backing. She insists on helping him as a friend.

* At the blacksmith shop, Ofelia interrupts Santo as he pounds away at the large safe trunk for Justo. She asks him about his reaction to Ines' comments of Rico. He tries to shrug it off but mama is insistent. Santo vents his problem with Rico; thinks he is engaged to Ursula and wants to start something with Cami only for entertainment. Justo stops by and interrupts. Santo shows Justo the trunk. Justo compliments him on the work, and wonders about payment. Santo says no need; he's getting paid enough from Rico for the large job over at Rico's mansion. Justo insists on paying something for the work. Ofelia asks Justo for his opinion about Cami, Rico and Ursula. Justo says that Rico and Ursula aren't, nor have ever been engaged. Justo thinks Cami and Rico should be together and Rico should take Cami away from there.

* Alone on the patio, Cami and Ascanio continue to discuss her loan offer. he explains about secret shames. she tries to get him to open up. he refuses. she thinks he is speaking about the murder in his past. he says yes that's it. she repeats that if he accepts another offer over hers, she will feel really hurt and angry with him. Cleo answers the front door. Ofelia enters and walks over to greet Ascanio and Cami.

* In the mansion courtyard, Rico explains to Fran and Lis that he has to return to La Mariana, Don Gaspar sent him an urgent message and he has to meet with him. Rico has to assure Lis and Fran that he will return as soon as he can; also as soon as the house is ready, he will move Lis and Fran there. Ursula and Manuela come out and interrupt. They greet Rico, and practically ignore Fran and Lis sitting there. Ursula wants to speak in private with Rico, he says whenever she wishes; she then reminds him about the party tonight. He nods. Ursula and Manuela return inside the mansion. Lis asks Rico if he actually is interested in her. Rico laughs, says she's too proud and isn't worth his time. He asks Fran about his mother's relationship with Tim (why the animosity?) Fran explains about how when his parents married, Tim cut off all communication with her. Rico asks how much influence Tim had over his parents. Fran cuts off the subject, saying the three are dead, let them rest in peace. Rico wipes his lips and thought bubbles to himself.

* In the entry hall by the stairs, Manuela asks Ursula about her continued plan to conquer Rico; if it is worth it. Ursula says she won't let Cami or anyone else have him. Manuela continues to give her opinions, and then on the stair landing, Manuela mentions Ursula's affair with Vasco. Ursula turns and scolds Manuela for her opinions. Manuela whines in her own defense. Ursula isn't interested and storms upstairs. Manuela following, like an abused little puppy dog.

* In the salon, Ofelia tells Cami about Rico's visit to their house. And Santo's opinions about him. Ofelia sort of gives her approval for Cami and Rico's relationship then changes the subject to Ines, and her continuing dream of being with Vasco. Cami sighs. Ofelia says she and Santo were thinking that Ascanio may make a good husband for Ines. Cari brings out the tea set and leaves. Cami isn't sure about Ascanio, she doesn't know too much about him except that he's a good man who wants to have his own business. They discuss Ines' fantasy about Vasco and Ofelia mentions the rumor that Vasco and Ursula are lovers. Cami is impactado.

* Paco is in the tree eating an apple (or some kind of fruit). He calls out, "Papa! Papa! Are you through with your business now?" Vasco says no, not yet. Vasco plucks his young son out of the tree. Paco tells Vasco about his reading and that he found a paper and was trying to read it, to practice his reading, but can't understand it. In the yard, Paco gets the bright idea that Vasco can help him read it and they can discover the surprise together. Paco pulls the paper out of his shoe and hands it to Vasco. Vasco opens it and starts to read the signature "Don Bonifacio Gomez". Paco asks who that is? Vasco doesn't respond, he continues to read the burnt letter, and Paco continues to ask what it says. Vasco finally says, nothing, and don't tell anyone about this, kapish? Vasco and Paco pinky-swear to keep this secret.

* At the front gate, all dressed up, Cami is having second thought about attending the party. Jimena has to convince and practically drag Cami out the gate and to the carriage.

* Out on the street, Rico and Mario talk. Rico hopes this is quick. Mario assures him that the bags are packed and ready for his departure. They do another version of their shoulder thing, laugh and Rico walks to the mansion. Mario spots Santo and Ines on the street and joins them. Just then, Cami and Jimena pull up in their carriage. Santo has to hold Ines back from saying hello. In the carriage, Cami finishes telling Jimena about the rumor of Vasco and Ursula. Jimena is very interested, surprised by the news. As they get out of the carriage, Cami rewarns Jimena about Don Jorge the leech. They go to the door of the mansion.

* The stage announcer presents the talented opera singer, Dona Ofelia Gorra. Dona Ofelia walks out to applause and starts to sing (warms up her vocal cords).

* Sofia and Fortunata greet Cami and Jimena in the door tunnel and usher them inside the courtyard. Across the courtyard, Alberto points them out to Jorge; Rico spots the ladies also. As Fran and Lis sit at their table and enjoy the singer's warm up, Jorge walks over to Cami and Jimena to greet them and take them to their table. Jorge sits and tells Cami and Jimena that the servants are there to treat them like royalty. As everyone enjoys the opera singer's warm-up, Rico watches and grimaces as Jorge clinks glasses with Cami and starts to flirt with her. Fran also spies on Jorge and Cami from her table. Rico can't stand it and walks over to the table. Cami coughs as she swallows her wine. Rico asks to join their table. Jorge permits it. Rico sits down and compliments the ladies on how elegant they look tonight. Jimena returns the compliment to the gentlemen. Rico asks Cami how she's doing? Cami says fine, thank you. Jorge asks Rico about their relationship. Cami starts to explain that Rico isn't accustomed to the opera. Rico makes a joke (I think). Jorge asks another question about the relationship - country mouse vs. city mouse. Jimena comments with her explanation/cover-up. Jorge asks another question, and Rico explains his own position and then compliments Cami on her captivating beauty. She thanks him and tells him to not be so presumptuous again. He agrees. Everyone applauds the end of the opera singer's warm-up. Fran and Lis discuss Rico sitting with Jorge, Cami and Jimena. They whisper together why he's with them, what they are discussing, his plan. Lis is upset by Cami's description. The next song starts. Rico stands and asks Cami to dance with him. Jorge says he had the same idea, and since he's the host, he should have the first dance. Rico sits down as Jorge and Cami join the other line dancers on the pathways. As they watch, Jimena and Rico have a private conversation about Cami and her feelings towards him vs. Jorge the creep. Jimena whispers to Rico that Cami really likes him, she's only concerned about him returning to his life at sea, but dreams about him as husband and father to her children. Rico smiles and is very interested and surprised. Jimena advises him if he insists a little, he may just win Cami over. Rico asks why Jimena is interested? Jimena explains her motivation, and then says Antillano if I can't have you, then let my friend have you. He smiles and agrees.

* Vasco sits by himself on the office loft stairs. He reads what's left of the medical letter. He thought bubbles what he should do with it.

* More operatic performances by Dona Ofelia, Gonzalo and another guy. Alberto orders Manuela to stop sitting by herself and go over and make friends with Lis and Fran. Manuela scurries off like a tortured little puppy dog. At the table, Fran and Lis are discussing Rico's sudden interest in his parents and her father, and Fran's statement of the three being dead and not to discuss them again. Fran ends the topic quickly. Manuela then joins them at the table. Manuela compliments Lis on her dress. Lis asks if Manuela has other friends besides Ursula. Manuela explains how her father selects her friends for her.

Rico tells Jorge about his trip tomorrow. Jorge questions him about the trip and pirates. Rico explains how the ship will be loaded with his new furnishings and he has to go to help the ship's captain navigate the waters from here to La Mariana. Jorge ponders La Mariana; and asks how far is that, one or two days? Rico says yes. That's when Ursula appears in the distance doorway. Jorge excuses himself to walk over to her. Rico keeps an eye on Jorge and Ursula as he talks with Cami. He needs to talk with her. She asks why is he being so blunt with Jorge just now. He explains; and asks her if he can see her bright and early tomorrow morning. She asks what does he want to talk about? He says many important things. He smiles at her. She smiles back.

Hola Friends, unfortunately I had a bit of problem with the transmission tonight. First, the closed captioning wasn't working very well; second, sometimes the dialogue was out of sync with the action which was just weird; and third, occasionally the picture would freeze for a while and then "stutter" before it got back to normal, in fact I lost the last five minutes so if someone could fill in the end it would be great. Other than that everything was perfect!

You'll remember from last night that Thelma agrees to help Nidia.

Pau tells Ana that her shrink told her if she doesn't deal with the Juan situation she'll be hanging by a thread. Ana agrees, but doesn't Pau know what she really feels for Juan? It's called LOVE dummy, she says, call it by its true name. She says Paula knows deep down who she loves and who she doesn't. Pau sarcastically asks Ana how much does she owe for the consultation.

Ana concludes by advising Pau to stop looking for excuses to run to Juan's arms. She should get a divorce and stop playing cat and mouse with her feelings. Paula scowls.

Monica tells Laura that when CL was sick he seemed so defenseless...sigh. (Blech, get a grip woman!)

Cut to CL on his bed, writhing in pain and popping Pepcid ACs.

Ivonne calls Fer to invite him for a glass of wine and maybe... He tells her to bug off and don't bother calling again because he won't answer. Ooh, big smack down for Ivonne, but remember our Ivonne is very goal oriented.

All are asleep at Casa Cachon, all except Nidia who is in the act of sneaking out with her suitcase. (This reminds me of Duelo de Estupidos when Soledad would always try to escape with her stupid rolling suitcase that clattered over the stones.) Kike gets up and stumbles downstairs to get some milk for the baby. Nidia poses like a statue and Kike walks right by her. Oops, he sees her on his way back. Luckily he is practically sleepwalking, "hola Doña Nidia" he mumbles without pausing. He goes upstairs and she makes her escape.

Next morning Mari goes to Nidia's room and tells her Ma to wake up, time to go to the Doctor. She discovers the cuckoo flew the coop.

Achichipico - Juan grooms Juanito and thought-bubbles about how he misses the Cachons. Juanito snaps that he's going to be late! Juan thinks it's unnatural for a kid to want to go to school so badly. Why is his son chomping at the bit?

Over at Farell industries Ivonne is at work early so she can be the first to get the 411 on CL's situation. When Moni shows up Ivonne fills her in on what happened to CL the night before. Moni goes straight to his office to lie in wait.

When CL arrives Moni announces she made an appointment for him with his doctor. CL resists but Moni literally drags him out the door. Ivonne watches with great interest; she's safe from CL for the time being plus she's the only one who knows what happened.

Ana's phone rings. It's Mari warning her of Nidia's escape. Ana barricades the door and chews her fingernails in terror.

Pau shows up at Farrel Industries looking for CL. Ivonne gleefully tells her that he's not there, he left with his wife...er, with Sra. Monica. They both cancelled all their appointments and left. Probably for all day. Paula scowls.

After the commercial Paula is all "oh yeah that's right, his appointments are all out of the office today". Ivonne looks at her calendar, "Nope, none listed here." They go back and forth as Ivonne twists the arrow, making Pau think that CL often leaves the office with Monica. Pau finally stomps off leaving Ivonne smiling in satisfaction:

We begin with a rerun of Ursula combing Vasco's ratty hair, then a rerun of Cami and Jimena rehashing her meeting with Jorge where he offered to "protect" her in an icky way. Ric comes by; Cami wants to send him away because it's late, but Jimena reminds her that he might have news about Tim's doctor's letter. Ric comes in; Jimena chases the nosy maid away.

Cami gives Ric some attitude. He hints around about wanting a relationship and reminds her that he's not really a pirate, and he's not really engaged; he just said that to wiggle out of Jorge's attempt to marry him off to Ursula. He says he doesn't think Jorge's the one who stole the letter; so far that seems to have been a stroke of luck. He hopes whoever stole it did so to help her, and not to blackmail her.

They talk some more as described in yesterday's recap. She vehemently insists that she's done with Saintly. Ric's going to check up on Claudio's cousin; he'd prefer it if the boy stays behind. He laughs when Cami asks if he'll kill the guy if their suspicions are confirmed. He says he intends to get proof.

He asks her to think about what he's suggested, and she tells him he's the second guy to have offered her something and told her to think about it. She tells him the other man was Jorge. He gives her a chaste hand-kiss and says at least what he's offering is decent. He leaves, and she looks a little dizzy as she brushes the kissed hand across her face, Lis-style.

Saintly asks Ines how how Cami took the news about his impending fatherhood. She says Cami was happy for him and Rita, but Saintly wonders if he should have told her himself. Ofelia thinks not! She says Rita must be tired of hanging out with Mullet Boy (Vasco Jr.). Ines is surprised to hear that Vasco hasn't come home yet. She hurries out to leave a note for him. Ofelia doesn't like the way Ines obsesses over him. Saintly thinks they should fix her up with Ascanio. Ofelia agrees, but shrewdly advises him to let her talk to Camila about it. Saintly takes offense, but Ofelia tells him he should wait longer before going to see Cami again.

Jimena is laughing her head off at the irony... Ric is the one person who can protect Cami from Jorge, so she should go for it. Poor, poor Cami asks, why me? (After all that's happened to her, she asks this NOW?) Marriage is for life, it's family, children, love. Jimena says Ric's in love. Cami doubts this and says she can't marry a guy like him. Even if he's not really a pirate, he lives like one. She'll always be wondering if he's going to come home alive or not. Jimena jokes that if he doesn't come back, that's even better - more money for Cami!

Cami's still not laughing. They're talking about the man who would be the father of her children! Jimena gets an bitter look and says she's laughing out of envy. Then she giggles some more.

Ric finds Mario at the fun-time saloon and complains that he's been looking for him everywhere. Mario tells Ric that this is his element. Ric tells Mario that he just proposed marriage to Camila. (Camila seems to think so too, but I've watched that scene several times and didn't hear anything more than hints. Maybe in those days, marriage was so taken for granted that the slightest hint of courtship was tantamount to a formal proposal?) Mario teases Ric about Cami being his aunt - Ric shuts him down!

Ric also says he really can't get married or have kids, what with the murder rap and the treason. The name he's going by isn't even his own.

Mario makes some suggestions to Ric, which I just can't make out, but whatever they are, Ric dismisses them. Mario points out that they're at a bordello; he picks out a woman and asks Ric if he's going too. Ric looks about as excited at the prospect as Saintly did when he found out Rita was pregnant.

Vasco is getting dressed. He wonders aloud who stole the doctor's letter. Ursula figures it was probably Ricardo, to get in good with Cami. He defends Camila and says he doesn't want to get in the way. Ursula says she's not going to mess with her; she just wants to know. Vasco asks why, what's it to her? Forget about that guy already!

"Whose side are you on?" Ursula asks - in fact, she asks this frequently. He says she's on her side, but not at his family's expense. He makes her promise not to mess with Cami, but she still just wants to find out what's going on with Ric and Cami. He says he'll try to find out. She gives him back the keys, which makes him very happy.

The next morning, a little kid runs up to Saintly; at first I think it's Mullet Boy with a haircut, but it's some other kid named Chalito. Hans und Franz congratulate Saintly on the good news. Hans says to let them know when he wants them to start building a cradle.

Saintly, again showing his great enthusiasm for fatherhood, changes the subject to Ricardo. They tell Saintly that Ric will surely pay what they ask, because he's in a hurry. Saintly isn't sure he even wants to work for that guy. Franz points out that it'll be a lot of work, and Saintly could use the money now that he's got a bun in the oven. Saintly reluctantly agrees. He tries to weasel out of going there on the first day, but the twins tell him he really can't skip it; he needs to arrange things with Ric.

Mullet Boy wants to show Vasco something - something that's a secret. (Hmm, could it be a scorched piece of paper?) Vasco doesn't have time; he has to go see Don Alberto. Ines shows up and asks Vasco where he was last night. He says he was out late partying with some friends. She tells him about Saintly's little miracle. He promises to go see Rita later and takes off.

Mullet Boy wants to hang out in the plaza with Ines; she says no, he has to be a good boy and go to his classes. He complains that it's boring.

Sofia asks Ursula to check out the pictures of her suitors again. Ursula says she remembers what they looked like; they're all ugly. Sofia tells her to think about something else; looks don't last, and marriage is for life. Ursula says fine, then they can pick one out for her, they're all the same to her; just don't pick one that's old. She leaves in a huff.

Fortunata reminds Sofia that Ursula's stuck on Ric. Sofia says that's just because Ric's handsome; they don't know much else about him, though at least he was honest enough to tell them about his existing engagement. (Ha!) Fortunata isn't so sure the engagement is for real; she thinks Ric has a thing for Camila. She sings Cami's praises to Sofia, then says Ursula's even better, plus she has a dowry.

Sofia says Ricardo probably likes other qualities in a woman. Anyway, she thinks this guy named Alvaro Fernandez de la Cueva is Ursula's best bet. (The music swells ominously; he's Claudio's presumably murderous cousin!) She'll invite him over, and she hopes Ursula doesn't squander the opportunity. But if she rejects him, she'll let Manuela have a crack at him! Fortunata doesn't think Manuela is such an appealing thing, but Sofia says she's got a good dowry. She adds that marriage is a business deal. Fortunata agrees; she says that's why she's not married. Sofia says the working class have no dowries and can marry just for love. Fortunata looks sad as Sofia begins writing a letter to Ursula's would-be future husband.

Vasco goes to see Lafont. Manuela runs into him on her way out. He tries to make small talk with her, saying he heard that she was teaching the kids' catechism class. Manuela is very bashful with him and says her father made her do it. Vasco tells her that Mullet Boy really likes her. She very bashfully excuses herself and flees in terror.

Vasco tries to explain his to LaFont why he ran into him outside Jorge's last night - he has a silly story about how he was supposed to bring them an ivory comb from the store, then it fell down the back of a drawer, or something, and that's why he was at Jorge's so late - but in any case LaFont doesn't believe him and doesn't care. LaFont insinuates that Vasco's continuing to see his woman (obviously Ursula) even though she sorta dumped him.

"You like money, right?" Vasco can't deny it. Lafont says especially now that his father is having money problems too. The earthquake, rebuilding their store, etc. LaFont has a job for him, along with a threat: if he screws up, he'll tell Jorge that Vasco's been screwing around with Ursula.

LaFont wants Vasco to scoop some poop on Ric. (Same deal he gave to his daughter to get to know Lis, except she wasn't offered any money.) Vasco says he and Ric don't really get along, LaFont says too bad, fix that up and find out what you can. He asks about Camila, too. Vasco says she's living with some friends; LaFont gets Vasco to tell him what he knows about them, which isn't much, but I guess is more than LaFont already knew. Vasco says that Ascanio wants to start his own business, but doesn't have any money; maybe he could borrow some from LaFont. LaFont warms to this idea immediately and tells Vasco to send Ascanio over.

Vasco goes to Ascanio right away to tell him to meet with LaFont in the afternoon. He asks for Camila; she's gone to visit her sister. Then he asks Ascanio, what kind of guy is Ric? "Normal, like everyone." Vasco knows this much is not true. He says he's asking because Ric has been nosing around his sister. Ascanio says Camila is a widow and can have all the suitors she likes. Vasco thinks it's reasonable for him to want to know if the guy's intentions are honorable and get to know him.

Cami visits Rita. Rita isn't rude, but she doesn't seem glad to see Cami. Ofelia hovers for a moment to make sure they won't kill each other, then excuses herself. Cami asks if she's feeling better. Rita says she has to stay in bed. Cami says she'll be a great mother. Rita admits she's thrilled to be having a baby; but then she has a guilty flashback to the day she intercepted Cami's letter, tore it up and buried it. "If you knew what I've done..." she says, but Cami interrupts and says neither Rita nor Saintly has anything to be guilty about. It was destiny, or the will of God. She just wants them to be happy with their child, with all the love in the world. Rita weeps gratefully and says it means everything to her that Cami isn't holding a grudge.

Rita asks if Cami's thinking of getting married again. Cami says yes, but claims that she's not interested in anyone in particular. (Good, now they're both liars.) Rita says she it would be great if Cami got married. "You don't know the joy of finding out that you're going to give a child to the man that you love." OUCH! Rita claims that Saintly was very enthusiastic when he found out, and practically went nuts. (That is NOT how I remember it!)

On her way out, Cami tells Ofelia that she and Rita made their peace. Ofelia wishes Cami the good luck that she deserves and says she needs to talk to her some more (probably about fixing up Ines with Ascanio), but not right now.

Saintly and the twins go to check out the pirates' new digs. Mario tells Saintly that Ric wants special locks. Fran and Lis show up. Fran is telling Lis that the place isn't very attractive, but at least it's big. Lis wants to know if there are flowers and trees. (Fran puts up her parasol, leaving Lis to poke around with the cane on her own.) Ric introduces them to Saintly. Lis gives Saintly a pretty speech, something about forges and fire. (Ric and Mario exchange suspicious looks.) Mario takes the women on a tour of the property.

Ric takes Saintly and the twins aside to talk about security. He wants the place to be much more secure. Saintly assures him that people don't steal around there. Ric says that's nice, but he's going to be traveling a lot and he doesn't to leave the women at risk.

Inside, Fran complains to Mario about how the place needs to be cleaned up, furnished, and decorated. Lis, poor disinherited Lis, says they have plenty of money and they can hire more servants. Fran wonders who they'll hire, since they don't know anyone and don't want to attract thieves. Saintly shuffles in and says his mother knows lots of people. Fran snottily says they'll just ask Sofia to recommend people. Lis says she'd prefer to accept Santiago's help! Ric looks confused again.

Lis asks Ric how long they're staying in the area; she'd like to make some friends. All those years cooped up with Tim, they didn't get to see anyone. Fran impatiently interrupts and says they'll talk about this later. Lis says "No, auntie, I already know what you're going to say, but I want to do it." Fran rolls her eyes. Lis asks Saintly about his family, and he gives her the whole roll call, including his bun in the oven. She congratulates him. Ric narrows his eyes; Mario strokes his beard ever more suspiciously.

Lis and Fran wander around the house. Fran asks why Lis would take an interest in the blacksmith and his family. Lis says she likes Saintly's voice; besides, she knows Ric likes the "common" people, and she wants him to see that she'd never be unkind to his friends. Fran is skeptical that Lis would enjoy spending her evenings with Mario around. Lis says sure, why not? She wants Ric to know that Lis is the only one who understands him. Fran makes disapproving noises, but Lis says dreams can come true.

Okay... so Lis is nuts, but I'll say this for her: at least she's willing to try something new. And this scene gives us a very sad glimpse into how lonely her life has been with Fran and Tim. If she'd been raised by someone a little nicer, who knows what kind of person she'd be now.

Fran encounters a dead rat. Lis can't see it, but the very idea has her screaming. Mario picks it up and brandishes it at them, I guess to show them that it's harmless; Fran is not amused. Ric assures them it's only because the house has been empty for so long; he promises to get the place cleaned up.

Mario confides to Saintly that women are very fussy. Saintly gallantly says they were just scared.

Outside, Mario wonders what to make of the weird niceness between Lis and Saintly. Ric tells Mario that Lis doesn't like to speak to people of a lower social class, so there must be some motive for her to be talking to Saintly. Something about knowing that he was engaged to Camila and now he's expecting a child with someone else. He mentions that he found Saintly groping Camila the other day.

Mario wants to hear more about the groping, but Fran and Lis join them, and now that they've seen the whole place, they want even more servants than ever. Lis asks Saintly when she can meet his mother. He says whenever.

Mullet Boy and Ines greet Claudio in the plaza. Mullet Boy asks Claudio why he lives with Cami. Claudio says it's a long story. Ines tells him about the baby and invites him to visit, claiming that Rita would enjoy it. Claudio says no and looks sad. He says he misses his mother. With a starry-eyed, mushy face, Ines points out Vasco to Claudio.

Ursula grumps at Manuela for not being around when she needs her. That is, Manuela was off teaching kids their catechism when Ursula desperately needed her to go fetch Vasco for her! Poor Ursula actually had do go and do the errand herself! And then when he showed up that night, LaFont saw him. Manuela tells Ursula that Vasco came to her house that morning. This worries Ursula very much. She scolds Manuela for not finding out why he was there, and swats her a couple of times with a napkin.

Sofia and Fortunata stroll in the plaza. Sofia scolds Fortunata for gossiping, especially about Ursula, and says if she does it again, she'll get kicked out. Fortunata denies ever having gossiped and then says, well, she's sorry if she let some little thing slip, but she's never done it out of malice. They go into the store, and Sofia talks to Justo about someone who would make a good husband for Camila. "We don't know him," Justo says guardedly. (Fortunata pretends to look busy in the background, but is taking in every word like it's candy.) Sofia says he (whoever he is) isn't bad. And there aren't a lot of other choices around here. She says the guy has guts; he rejected Ursula when Jorge suggested they get married. (Aha, so she's talking about Ric!) The guy claimed to be engaged, but she thinks it's a lie, and he's definitely interested in Camila. He's the best husband she could have. At least he's not afraid of Jorge.

From the look on Justo's face, it's clear he's nervous about any guy who wouldn't be afraid of Jorge. Fortunata scurries outside and buys some sweets; Justo comes out of the store a moment later, mopping his face. He bows to her, and she watches him make his way across the plaza.

Lis and Fran ride into the plaza. Ric is a little reluctant to take them to Ofelia's; he says she's probably busy. Fran latches onto this idea: she'd like to send for Ofelia to visit them instead (I'm thinking so Fran doesn't have to be seen mingling with poor people in public). Lis is saying loudly in front of Ric that she'd like to meet new people; she doesn't like being cooped up with Ursula all day. Ric relents and takes them to Ofelia's place.

Vasco welcomes them kindly. Lis holds her nose for a moment, but manages to speak to him without gagging. She's surprised when Claudio runs out to greet Ric happily. Lis and Fran mutter indistinctly.

Sofia is already home (honestly, the scene changes sometimes make me dizzy); Shakespeare shows up for a visit. Oh - no, he's a guy named Marcelino. He seems to be terrified of her. She tells him this meeting will be in confidence, and she doesn't want anyone to know about it, especially Jorge.

She says he knows the area's families' histories well. Did he know Ofelia? And her dead husband? She was preggers when they got married, right? Marcelino says sure, but it was no big deal, you know how it is with novios. Sofia hints that maybe the baby wasn't the husband's. Marcelino stammers that he doesn't know.

Sofia explains that they both know her husband has kids all over the place, but so far they've all been girls; there's not been an heir. "No..." Marcelino says thoughtfully. "And I know he went after Ofelia," Sofia elaborates to this willfully dense man. Marcelino drops his book and scrambles on the floor to pick it up. He reluctantly confirms Sofia's statement. "So... Santiago could be my husband's child? Could he or not?" Marcelino stutters some more. "Sure... he could."
Sofia asks if Ofelia has any other living relative. (I'm not sure what she's getting at - there's Ines - maybe she means older relatives?) Marcelino tugs at his beard now, looking interested in spite of himself.

Sofia comes back to the plaza for Fortunata. Fortunata complains that Sofia disappeared on her earlier. Sofia is annoyed that Fortunata wants to know where she was.

Ofelia feeds Lis and Fran and tells them she knows lots of honest people who need work. Lis continues with her campaign of politeness. Santiago arrives and they make some small talk. Ines tells him it's too bad he didn't get there sooner - Claudio and Ric were there.

Rita comes out to see if there's a party that needs pissing on. They suggest that she go back to bed, but she says she feels okay. Santiago introduces everyone. Lis looks uncomfortable. Seeing this, Rita starts looking nervous, too.

Justo visits Cami to ask about Ric. She explains why Ric lied to Jorge about being engaged. He tells her what Sofia said about Ric being a good husband and not being afraid of Jorge. Would she like Justo to speak to Ric? He's not a bad prospect, Justo says. She says she's afraid. They don't know him, and he lives far away. Justo suggests that it would be better if she went away, to forget about Saintly and have her own life.

Ric is telling Claudio that his investigation will be easier if Claudio stays behind. They run into Justo as he leaves Cami's. He greets them, pauses awkwardly, then excuses himself. Ric tells Claudio he's gotta go too. He takes off after Justo.

Claudio tells Cami and Jimena that Ric didn't want to come in and asks Cami if she's mad at him. Cami says that if anyone's upset, it's Ric. Claudio doesn't think so. He tells them Ric didn't want him to come along on the trip; Jimena agrees that this is best, because he's still hopping-mad, and that kind of courage is never good. Claudio tells them that Ascanio went to see a guy named Alberto. "Alberto LaFont?" the women ask in surprise.

At LaFont's, Manuela bashfully (but giddily) tells Ascanio that her father is on his way. Ascanio has to explain to LaFont where he came from, and how he came to be a slave. He wants a loan for a bakery. LaFont wants to know why he didn't stay at Mariana. Ascanio explains that Lis wasn't nice to him and he agreed to travel with Camila and Jimena for their safety. LaFont says he thinks a bakery would probably be a good deal, as long as Ascanio is absolutely loyal and discreet. Also, he wants to know how well Ascanio knows Ric. "Just a little," Ascanio replies. LaFont says he'll think about the loan, and tells Ascanio to come back tomorrow.

"Momentos decisivos" my foot. That announcer guy is an even bigger liar than Silvana.

We begin with leftovers from last night: Ceci finally gets some…I mean, smooches Mario. And they get a cool song, Camila's "Abrazame." The world's most ridiculous newspaper headline gives the whole fake story about Silvana, Diego, and their alleged baby. Seriously, the guy missed the day in journalism school where they learned the difference between a headline and an opening paragraph. Silvana fakes stomach pains and gets Diego to feel sorry for her. Gloria makes Azul a morning sickness remedy and takes her out for a walk in Guadalajara. I bet Gloria knows a bunch of good hangover cures too.

Diego won't marry Silvana, despite her pressuring him. He says the kid won't have a mom and dad who live together. She tries to make a threat about finding another man to be with her.

LuisFe and Mario have a nice breakfast and talk about how to find Azulcena. Between what Diego and Ceci have said about Silvana, they suspect she knows where Azulcena is. Mario suggests getting Ceci's help and he tells LuisFe that he and Ceci are now an item. LuisFe says that's cool, since he could never love Ceci for wanting Azulcena.

Azulcena babbles to Gloria about not having seen her picture on the news or anything yet. She wants to buy a little TV for the house. Gloria tries to find out if what Silvana said was true; Azul says she both wants to find her family AND hopes she's single so she can be with LuisFe. Silvana calls Gloria and while they're talking on the phone (a bunch of lies, as usual), Azulcena finds the paper with the ridiculously long headline…or the article with the ridiculously large font, whichever. Azulcena feels bad about what's allegedly happening to Silvana with Diego and the alleged baby. Commercials. Gloria and Azulcena return to the house. Azulcena is highly offended at that Diego guy's behavior towards Silvana. She wants to call Silvana and offer her support, but Gloria asks her to wait until they both calm down. Gloria looks really upset.

Ceci and Caty are playing on a trampoline outside. Ceci announces to Caty that she and Mario are now together. Diego comes to collect Caty because Silvana wants to talk to her. After Caty leaves, Ceci says she found out about Silvana's hellspawn…I mean, the baby. She asks what Diego's going to do.

Silvana works on Caty by telling her she'll love her little brother or sister and can see he/she/it whenever she wants to. Caty says if Silvana moves back in, she promises to never get mad at her again. They hug, giving Silvana the opportunity to grin maliciously.

Azulcena and Gloria talk about LuisFe and how great he is. Gloria says you've got to grab onto the good ones and not let them go. Seeing as how there's a man shortage on this show, that's not bad advice…at least, a shortage of the non-stupid, non-tialoving-abuelokilling kind.

Emilia's restricted to sitting at the dining table except for trips to the bathroom. She's hired a maid to help out. Silvana shows up to mope and try to get sympathy. Again. GSD overhears and comes over to clarify that while he doesn't approve, he'd never forbid Emilia from hanging out with her, and he respects her personal life.

Diego and Caty go for a walk. Caty works on Diego, being sad about Silvana maybe going to live somewhere else, or marrying someone else.

Silvana tries to get more sympathy from Diego over the phone. She's playing the martyr. Manuel's in the hotel room. Silvana says she's getting everyone on her side with the pregnancy scam. Silvana thinks she'll get Diego when he realizes she and the baby won't necessarily be around. Manuel thinks that if he talks to Diego about what a bad dad he was, it'll get Diego to come around. And there's something about Silvana giving him more money, but that's par for the course.

Ceci greets Mario with smoochies. He greets her with a rose. Pink--my favorite color! He brought LuisFe with him and they ask to talk to her about Silvana. They explain that Azulcena disappeared and Silvana was the last person to see her and refuses to tell them where Azulcena is.

Gloria and Azulcena call Silvana. Azulcena offers her sympathies. The fact that Silvana fainted that time at the orphanage (as recalled by Azulcena) plays nicely into her whole pregnancy story. Azulcena mentions the story in the paper, but Silvana says it's a lie, they just had a little fight. The music gets a little freaked out as Azulcena says that's great, since the baby should grow up near its father.

Ceci goes over to Silvana's. She says she's not against Diegovana, now that there's a baby involved. She came over to ask about Azulcena as LuisFe and Mario think Silvana knows something. Silvana says it was Azulcena who wanted to leave. She tells her it's LuisFe's baby that Azulcena's having.

The lawyer comes to visit Diego at the boutique. He's got 3 weeks to gather info that Frijolito's not a bad kid. He tells Diego that the accuser is Hector Manuel Moran Aguilera, better known as Bad Daddy. Commercials. Diego recognizes not only the name, but the signature. He goes over to ask Manuel about what happened.

Ceci is shocked about the news of Azulcena's pregnancy. Silvana says it was a scandal because they were carrying on in the orphanage. Per Silvana, it got Azulcena kicked out and she wanted to get away from LuisFe for a while. Now Ceci feels sorry for Azulcena. Silvana feeds her the lie about dropping her off at the bus station. Ceci's a little confused now that Silvana would let her pregnant upset friend who's in such a complicated situation just get on a bus by herself without knowing where she was going. Silvana insists she's telling the truth and if they don't believe her they can find Azulcena themselves. And BTW, MS can back up the story about the sexin' in the nunnery, so there. *sigh* This is so annoying, that people keep thinking that if one thing Silvana says is true, the rest must be true too.

Manuel sticks to his story about being robbed. Diego thinks it must have been on the day Caty said that Frijolito came looking for him. The lawyer thinks this is good news, since Manuel can ask for leniency, seeing as how it's one of those poor orphan children. Ha! I bet Silvana didn't think about that when she planned the whole scam.

Ceci goes to have coffee with Mario and chew him out for not telling her the whole Azulcena story. Since she's upset and keeps cutting Mario off, he never gets to the part where he explains that it's not LuisFe's baby.

Silvana and Manuel are in the hotel room again. Silvana says she thinks she's convinced Ceci that she doesn't know where Azulcena is. Manuel fills Silvana in about Frijolito's case and tells her that Diego's asked him to pardon the kid so they can get him out. Silvana tells him to take his time doing it and not let them notice (as if!). She's not worried because she thinks she's got Frijolito in her pocket with her promise to hurt Azul if he tells.

In juvie, Frijolito asks a friend to ask his uncle to bring old copies of the paper when he visits. Frijolito wants to investigate on his own whether what Silvana said was true.

Lidia's doing well selling the insurance policies, though I can't tell out of where--it doesn't look like Anibal's office and when Mario and Ceci come to visit her, Mario's wearing his lab coat. Lidia says she thinks she's going to be able to get all the money Tavo needs within three weeks and she's not going to see him until then.

3 weeks pass

Tavo's still angry and bitter about Lidia. Lidia gets to the garage just in time to hide and overhear Efrain say that Tavo had it coming with his lies about being broke. Oh, the fur's gonna fly now!

Clemi comments that Diego's not looking so good lately. Diego's worried because Silvana's not around, she's doing her own thing and he hardly knows how she's doing, let alone how the baby's doing. He's concerned it's only going to get worse after the baby is born. Clemi points out that Silvana is young and hot (and completely nuts, she forgot that one) and has a right to have a life and maybe even to marry someone else. That's the part that really gets Diego because then "his" kid will consider someone else "Dad."

Righteous indignation theater! Lidia throws the money in Tavo's face and he still has the gall to ask such a stupid question as "Where'd that come from?" She tells him she earned it to prove her love by saving his garage and now she knows it's all a lie. He starts to pick up the money to give it back to her, but she says he can keep it--as proof that she was never interested in the money. She also throws his engagement ring back at him and leaves, even though most etiquette experts agree that an engagement ring is a gift, and therefore doesn't need to be returned in case of breakup. It's the gesture that counts. Efrain refrains from saying "I told you so."

Frijolito's friend's uncle brought some newspaper clippings, but he saves Frijolito the trouble of reading them and says that Mauricio seems to have been a rat bastard (ok, my words; translating "un infeliz" as "an unhappy person" or "an unfortunate person" just doesn't cut it). He also says it looks like Azul was a nice person and one of Mauricio's victims. Frijolito is happy now.

Ceci cooks (or, as I suspect, has Arnaldo cook and just serves) Mario a dinner to thank him for making her happy the past few weeks. She admits she's afraid to be happy because you never know when your boyfriend's going to turn out to be a tialoving abuelokiller. Mario says there's nothing to worry about, as he doesn't have a tía. Probably I made some of that stuff up. I love the big picture of the muffin in the kitchen. Was that always there?

Lidia cries in front of Clemi and Anibal, but before she can tell them what happened, Tavo comes in and does so. Clemi is now filled with righteous indignation: "Who are you to be testing my daughter that way?!" Tavo says he was insecure and tries to apologize, but Lidia won't take him back. Anibal grabs his arm and shoves him out of the office. That was pretty damn satisfying. The question now is, with so little time left to go before el Gran Final, will Lidia find someone else or take Tavo back? Or will they be progressive enough to just have Lidia sell insurance, get rich on her own, and enjoy the single life?

MS and the lawyer talk. According to the lawyer, Frijolito might just get out of juvie today.

Except that…Frijolito has decided to take matters into his own hands. His plan is to go to Diego, find Azul together, and save her from Silvana and the bad man. He gets his friend to pick a fight so while the guard is otherwise occupied he can sneak out and find Diego. This is obviously not a high-security place.

And in the end, Diego finally caves and asks Silvana to marry him. *gag*
