Weekend Discussion: Gay Characters and Storylines in Telenovelas; Still a Long Way to Go

In the nearly two decades I have been watching telenovelas I can count only on one hand how many gay characters I've seen in them whose names I can remember. There have been some (not necessarily Televisa's) with minor gay characters (as in appeared in a handful of episodes) who fit all the popular stereotypes: Swishy men in cliché jobs like hairdressers, interior decorators, or fashion designers come and go on novelas and we roll our eyes and ask when the producers will finally get it right and show us some gay characters we can believe in life situations that are realistic.

A few productions did.

Caray Caray!

in case you missed the latest episode of the Univision program, "La Rosa de Guadalupe", here's my photo capture of Marcelo Cordoba as the handsome hero, in modern suit and glasses. His character's name is Esteban, who is the colleague and best friend of Zaida, played by Eugenia Cauduro. -- Jody :)

Amar Friday 1/18/08 The gran final that wasn't so gran--but Silvana comes to a bad end

It seems a supreme irony that it falls to me to recap the gran final of this show, which I bailed on recapping months ago. I hope I can do it justice. (Please chime in, everyone else, including departed recapper Chris!) I found this episode quite tedious. There is little dialogue beyond insipid pleasantries as the characters meet to rehash at various gatherings.

This is only my third novela, but I thought it was a tradition that you have a wedding of the main characters in the last episode. I don't know if tradition has been broken before, but here, the main couple were already married and we had a tacked on amnesia fest for the last few weeks. Since the main couple are already married, we don't have their wedding in this episode. But nuptial fans will not be disappointed.

We start with the scene where our last living villains, Silvana and Manuel, are supposed to apologize to poor Frijolito. Of course, they do a bad job. He magnanimously says that even though they don't repent we should pray for them.

We now see a screen for "three months despues." Azul and Diego have adopted Frijo, and they're picking him up at the orphanage with Caty. He invites all his friends for a visit at his new house. The family goes home to the mansion, where Frijo sees his fantastic new room. Azul has a medium-size baby bump now. They talk about how it's three months till the new baby is coming. Hugs all around. Diego and Azul go alone to their bedroom where he gets more opportunities to kiss her tummy and call her "preciosa." I still see no chemistry between these two, and I still find him not much of a galan. Through the run of this show, I never got used to Diego. I am always taken aback when I hear his deep raspy voice emerge from his Keebler elf face.

Cut to a scene of Ceci preparing for her wedding. (She does look pretty. She is wearing a mermaid-style halter dress.) She is chatting with her bridesmaids Azul and Lidia. She is nervous, and the girls trade nervous bride stories. Clearly ignoring church teachings, Lidia says she and Tavo are waiting for their church wedding until they have hijos. And they're not doing that yet, since they are still enjoying their honeymoon. I still don't know what Tavo does for a living. Anyone?

Cecilia asks Azul if she is okay with her having asked Luis Felipe. She knows it's awkward, but at the last minute they decided to ask him to be padrino of the lazo (godfather of the lasso). This apparently is the person who assists in that part of the ceremony where they put on the twin rope.

Outside the church we see everyone meeting and greeting. Emilia is clutching her baby bump. She has been given special permission to get out of bed to attend. GCSSD seems to have stopped smoking for the last week or so, so we will call him GSD. He actually looks much better lately--not so disheveled/mad scientist.

LuisFe arrives and is introduced to his partner, the madrina of the lazo. Her name is Elena. He can now have a new girlfriend as consolation. They are going to help each other through the ordeal, apparently. He says this is the first time he had to play a part in a wedding.

The wedding takes place with essentially no dialogue to recap, lucky for me! GSD gives the bride away--he says she's like his own daughter.

I've taken a break to go shopping and get some soup on the stove. Now back to the show.

Here's what we have all been waiting for: What happened to Silvana and Manuel?
The scene setter tells us we're in Las Vegas, and the camera pans over what purports to be the wheels of a slot machine. Then we see a shot of Silvana trolling a casino for male prospects. She is leaning against a wall, sulkily smoking a cigarette. Her face looks kind of dirty, and she is clearly down on her luck. And wouldn't you know--her hair has grown at least 8 inches (or she is no longer wearing that fake short wig).

Manuel seems to be Silvana's pimp. He tells her that he has found a perfect client for her--perfect for her special charms. He's a producer, and maybe she can even wangle a role in one of his films. But smile, he adds--with that look you won't manage to get anything. He takes her over to a poker table where a fat man in a Hawaiian shirt is playing. He is introduced as Mr. Hughes (is she supposed to think he is the reincarnation of Howard Hughes?). You get the feeling that he is a porno producer. The man says "sit down" in accented English, and she obeys sullenly. This is pretty sad, even though we wanted to see her come to a bad end. Moreover, this scene was really low budget. They didn't even try very hard to make it look like Vegas. This cheap set would hardly pass muster at Casino Night at the VFW.

Back to the main action.

After the wedding, Ceci comes over to the castle (is this Mo's old house?) to visit. The honeymoon was really great, yada yada yada (a bit too much information for my taste, if you know what I mean). Th;is part made me remember poor old Andres. Well, at least he's alive and well over at Pasion.

Azul teases her about having a baby--she wants to be an aunt. Then, wouldn't you know it--something is wrong with Azul's pregancy. She is rushed to the hospital at only seven months.

The three gay caballeros--better known as Julio, Arnaldo and Efrain--are discussing the latest episode of Project Runway, or whatever they do in their busy fashion business. They get a phone call and rush to the hospital.

Luis Fe is needed to do the special treatment to save the baby. Once again, everyone is wondering if this will be awkward. Come on--are there no other doctors in all of the DF? Diego is in the delivery room with Azul. Good thing he is wearing a surgical mask for some of this--so it will keep us from seeing how he is laughing. Diego wants to make sure they do everything for Azul so she doesn't suffer. He says "I am here for you."

Meanwhile, Gloria talks to Chucho about Silvana. She wants her to change her attitude. Too late!

Back in the delivery room, LF is there to check the dilation. Please save my baby, Azul cries. LF tells her to bend her knees and relax. Ewww. Uh-oh. No dilation. He has to perform a C section. Azul faints in the OR. Finally, the baby is born, and we actually get to see a gross bloody plastic cord getting cut. I swear, I am not making this up.

The baby has no heartbeat, but--surprise, surprise, he's revived. It's all so exciting, that Emilia, in the waiting room, goes into labor too!.

Two weeks later, the family is having a welcome-home party for Azul's little boy, who is now released from the neonatal ward. The children have planned a party for the homecoming. Everyone talks about how wonderful everything is. Diego and Azul go off alone to the side and trade endearments. She says that sometimes she lost hope, but something kept her going. He will love her always--a love without limits--and they kiss.

And that's it, believe it or not!
I won't say it's been fun recapping this show, but it's always great to connect with all the people who participate in this web site. See you at Diablo.

Don't forget to watch Cristina on Monday

Looks like the perpetrators . . . er, I mean the cast of the show we love to hate will be appearing on Cristina this week. It's amazing that she gives the exposure to all the shows, no matter whether they are good or bad.

Amar Sin Limites: Thursday Jan. 17, 2008: Silvana and Manuel aren't willing to give up yet.

We get the usual repeat of last night’s ending. I won’t rewarm the leftovers, they really were best fresh. I’d do them no justice, so I suggest you read the hilarious recap from Wed. if you missed it.

LuisFe is at Emilia’s and so is Azul. Their song begins to play. Azul’s glad to have a chance to talk to him, he apologizes for leaving the church, but he had to get out of there because it was so painful for him. She apologizes to him because it was never her intention to hurt him and that what she felt for him was real---it was what she felt at that moment. LF says that seeing Diego changed all of that. He knew it could happen, that she’d get her memory back and he’d end up with the short end of the stick, but he was willing to risk it. LF is ever the gentleman and says that as long as he knows that Azul will be happy, then that’s enough. He can live with their memories. They both blather on about how neither one is to blame and that they are both sorry. Then Azul says something that bugged me and I had to watch it a couple of times to make sure I got it right….she tells LF that if she knew him before then he would have been the love of her life. This just seemed so odd to me, did it strike any one else as odd? Anyway they hug and Diego walks in at this moment and we cut to commercial.

Mario tells Emilia that she should rest. That nothing is more important than her baby. She tries to explain why she felt the need to get to the church---Silvana needed her. I say Silvana isn’t worth it, especially not at the expense of the health and well-being of your child, but you know that Emilia-- she’s ever the caretaker.

Diego wants to talk to LuisFe. He doesn’t punch him (as I actually expected him to do) he wants to thank him for being there for Azul, for helping her when she was lost and alone. (I daresay, there is some growth in the eleventh hour for our Diego) LF gives Diego the same line about seeing Azul happy is enough for him and as long as Diego will make her happy that’s all he needs, blah, blah. The best part of LF’s whole schpeil is that he tells Diego that the baby is his. Diego is obviously impactado. It is what he and Azul hoped for and he hugs his wife, overcome with emotion.

Silvana is sitting on a bridge overlooking a busy road. She contemplates jumping. I’m at home encouraging her to take the jump. She didn’t hear me. She has a little conversation with herself (she is crazy, after all). “Don’t be stupid, you can go and get back everything that is lost to you”. We don’t get to see her splattered on the highway in her wedding gown, darn.

Diego tells LuisFe that he would like to be friends, but realizes that under the given circumstances that would really be hard. LF agrees and says that all he wants is to get away from here. Thanks are offered again from both Diego and Azul. LF wishes all three (Diego-Azul-baby) happiness. Alfredo walks in, offers his thanks and tells LF that he’s a great doctor.

After commercial, Diego and Azul are now home. They both apologize and ask for forgiveness for messing around with Silvana and LuisFe respectively. They agree to forgive and forget---they intend to start anew. Azul says that Diego is the only love of her life (what about the earlier comment to LF?). Diego tells her that she is his life and will always be his. He slips her wedding band on her finger, which despite her being pregnant and most likely puffy, slides on easily and still fits. Oh the marvels of television.

The next morning Chonita fawns over Azul and express her true happiness at having Azul back home (IMHO she’s just happy to be rid of Silvana, who treated her so poorly). Diego and Azul decide they need to go pick up Caty and head to the chapel to pray. Our next scene is them praying in the chapel at the orphanage. Caty is in the middle and they all join hands. Azul asks about Frijolito, and they all go to see him.

Frijolito is so happy to see Azul. They hug and she says something about him figuring out who she was. He spills the beans (no pun intended) about what really happened---how evil Silvana was and how Manuel was involved. Diego says that Manuel is his father and Frijolito is surprised that such a nice guy as Diego would have such a cad as a father. Diego and Azul agree that they need to help Frijolito get out of juvie (which actually looks like he’s still at the orphanage, but I just figured they were trying to save on their set budget—why build a new set for the last few days of the show).

Silvana is eating breakfast in the hotel when Manuel finds her. He shows her a copy of one of the papers giving all the details of the wedding. She blames him. He blames her mother. She has some other choice words to say to Manuel and tells him that his cash cow is gone forever. She can’t spare him any change because she’s going to have to watch her money really carefully because her career is sure to be over. He says, not necessarily, there are plenty of celebrities who create scandals just to keep their name in the press (Britney Spears come to mind?). Silvana could use this whole thing to her advantage. The waiter comes over at this point, and gives Silvana some attitude and makes reference to the wedding that wasn’t. She plays the diva and gives him major attitude right back. The manager comes over and tells Silvana that she is no longer wanted as a guest at their hotel and she needs to vacate the premises immediately. Silvana continues the diva mode and says she’s sooooo out of there. Manuel, afraid that he’ll be stuck with the bill makes a hasty exit right behind her.

Diego tells Frijolito that they will make sure to teach Silvana and Manuel a lesson. Frijo it going to the police station to denounce Silvana and Manuel. The two will be charged with calumnia (slander).

Diego calls his mom and fills her in on what they found out from Frijo. Clemi makes a comment about how low Manuel has sunken, but she wouldn’t have thought he’d sink so low as to harm an orphan. Speaking of el rey de roma, the phone call is cut short when Clemi bumps into Manuel and Silvana. Come to find out, Clemi’s come to the hotel to find Silvana as a favor to Emilia. Clemi tells Silvana that Emilia is concerned and wants to make sure that Silvana gets help. Silvana says there is no need, she’s not crazy and doesn’t need any psychobabble from anyone. Clemi tells Silvana that the person in front of her is so drastically different from the nice woman she met how many ever months ago. She urges Silvana to change her ways and to get help. Then Clemi tells Manuel that he’s hopeless, he’s always been cinico and tramposo (cynical and deceitful/ a cheat). She then tells Silvana and Manuel that Frijolito intends to denounce them. Silvana says that his accusations are absurd. Just then Bruno shows up and overhears. He says that he’s also going to testify against the two of them.

LuisFe has flashbacks to his romp in the waterfall with Azulcena. His mother can tell he’s thinking of her and tries to comfort him. He’ll find another girl to love someday.

At the boutique, Gaspar is reading the recount of the wedding that wasn’t to Chucho, Gloria, Julio and Arnie. Gloria says she’s worried about her daughter and that she hopes she’ll be able to make peace with her. Julio says he hopes that Silvana sees the evil of her ways and repents.

Caty asks Azul and Diego if Frijo can come to live with them. Teasing Caty a little, Diego acts like the idea never even crossed his mind. Azul and Caty use their combined female charms to win him over, but they weren’t necessary because Diego was into the idea from the get go---and we, the viewing, audience has known for weeks that our little bean hero will get the happy ending and be adopted into the loving central family, so the pieces are falling into place. Diego and Azul tell Caty that it isn’t easy to adopt, there are many things that they will need to do and get approved. So they make her promise to keep it a secret, not say a word to Frijolito, as they get all the details worked out with the officials.

Frijolito gets his freedom and the judge has declared him to be innocent of the crimes he was accused. We find out his name is really Roberto Sanchez, but he’ll always be Frijolito to us. Anyway, he says that he really doesn’t want to accuse Silvana and Manuel of slander, he just wants them to apologize for what they’ve done.

Manuel and Silvana have been summoned to the orphanage. The diabolical duo meets with Frijolito’s lawyer. He tells them of Frijo’s wish for an apology. Silvana acts all indignant and says absolutely not. Manuel hops on her bandwagon and says apologizing would be humiliating. The lawyer says, well I guess you can leave….you know the way out and soon you’ll know the inside of jail.

Clemi and Anibal discuss the latest happenings. Clemi’s upset to think that she was ever married to a person like Manuel. Anibal reminds her that she wouldn’t have her children, her pride and joy, if not for Manuel. (My mother says that often to my sister about her ex-husband. My sister’s flip comeback is that yes, her children are awesome but she can only wonder how much greater they would have been if she would have selected higher up in the gene pool. It makes me laugh every time she says it, and I actually like my ex-bro-in-law). OK, back to the show, Clemi says, yep Diego and Lidia are the 2 best things Manuel ever did (and if you think about it, his part in the whole deal could be summed up in a matter of seconds---I could have said minutes but I’m going out on a limb here and say that Manuel isn’t probably the most giving lover---more like the wham-bam-thank you ma’am type).

MS meets with LF. He’s leaving his position as the orphanage doctor. They say their goodbyes. Mario, I guess, will be taking LF’s place. Is there really a need for an OB-GYN at an orphanage? As LuisFe is leaving the orphanage, he sees the Moran family arrive. Diego acknowledges LF and Azul gives a wave. The three of them look so cute together, it’s got to be a dagger in LF’s heart.

MS takes Manuel and Silvana to see Frijolito. Apparently they’ve agreed to offer up the apology. Silvana tries to use her smarm on the MS, telling her that Frijo is wrong, but finally MS’s bulls**t meter is working and she doesn’t fall for it. They enter the room where Frijolito is waiting, along with everyone else……END OF EPISODE

Amar Sin Limites #123, Wednesday 1-16: Azulcena is no more, long live Azul. Or something.

Well, this is my last Amar Sin Limites recap. It's been quite a ride, and now we're on that downhill run, so buckle up and grab your beverage of choice!

I'm skipping the leftovers and heading straight to the part where Gloria pulls Diego to one side of the altar to tell him that Silvana was never pregnant and that Manuel is in on the fake-baby scam. Diego is impactado and stares at Silvana, but says nothing. Chucho looks on, wondering what's going on up there.

Diego and Gloria go back to their places and the priest begins the ceremony. Gloria whispers to Anibal that the wedding is going to stop at some point for lack of a groom. Anibal is understandably confused. Clemencia also looks like she heard something. Silvana is so oblivious that she doesn't think anything of Diego's completely bewildered look.

Emilia watches the wedding on TV (oh, come on, they're not that famous!) and tells the maid she can go home, since she's just going to watch the wedding. Oh, no! On the TV, Bruno makes a comment about the sobrio (somber) dress that Clemencia is wearing.

Arnaldo, GSD, Ceci, Azul, and LuisFe are all crammed in a car trying to get to the orphanage and hitting every red light along the way.

The wedding continues. Lidia is lovey with Tavo (awwwww, that's cute). Lidia comes up with the rings and the priest blesses them. Caty looks upset and is being comforted by Clemencia. Gloria thought bubbles "WTF is Diego still doing up there?" or close enough, anyway. Clemencia and Anibal come up with the coins and the priest blesses them. (Since I had to explain the coins to my husband, I'll do it here as well: They get poured into the hands of the bride and groom to symbolize the couple's future prosperity. My parents still have theirs in a little silver box in the china cabinet.)

Then we get to the questions, and NO, Diego says he will not take Silvana as his wife with all the etc. etc. that goes with it. Silvana says "Uh, he asked if you wanted to marry me" and Diego replies "Yeah, I heard." Diego now takes the spotlight from Silvana and spills all the beans to the assembled crowd of reporters (and I swear, there are more of them than there are wedding guests). "How could I marry a woman who, even knowing how I suffered after my wife's death, when she found out my wife hadn't died, hid it from me? How can I share my life with a woman who took advantage of my suffering to enredar (entangle) me? A woman who, as a reason for me to marry her, used something as sacred as a child? A false child. Silvana, you're not expecting a child." As he has his moment of vengeance, the priest, rather than doing the sensible thing and asking them to have this conversation elsewhere, just turns to the altar and prays.

Outside, Bruno announces that Diego has rejected Silvana. He points out all the confused faces inside.

Silvana tries to insist that she's telling the truth about the baby. Diego's like "hey, we're in the house of God, here" and "have a little DIGNITY" (very dignified of him to scream, there). He tells Silvana that Gloria told him what she heard Silvana and Manuel saying. Clemi can't believe Silvana would tell such a big lie. Oh, come on, Clemi, have a little imagination. Diego wants everyone to know that the two of them were planning to tell him she'd lost the baby.

Watching on TV, Emilia says "Silvana, what have you done?" Well, Emilia, I think Diego's explaining it pretty well, there, so….

Silvana struggles to come up with a way to deny it, but can't put a sentence together.

In the back of the church, Ceci tells Azul to get up there and tell what Silvana done, but Azul thinks this is bad enough as is and grabs LuisFe for cover.

Silvana now tries to blame her mother, since Gloria's "always" tried to ruin her life. Then Manuel comes up and, instead of supporting Silvana like Silvana thought he would, he says it was all her. So, basically "the devil made me do it." Silvana asks forgiveness and Diego tells her to ask God for it because he can't forgive her. Oh, yeah, and in case he hasn't been clear enough, he also can't marry her. Dude, we already got that memo. As Silvana screams his name, Diego starts walking back up the aisle and Clemi comes over to hug him. And cry.

Azul peeks out from behind LuisFe as we go to commercials. When we return, Azul starts having flashes of her old life more quickly than I can type. Lots of orange flashes.

The priest, quite unnecessarily (see above re: memo) says that due to what's happened here, the wedding is off. He asks God to forgive the descarriados (those who have lost their way) and send them down the right road. He begs everybody to get out and remember that God's house should be respected. See, now, if God had gone all Old Testament on everyone, the priest wouldn't have needed to make that announcement. A little smiting would do some of these people good.

Caty now pops up, poor confused little moppet, and asks what happened. She also was not cc: -ed on the memo. Mr 5ft opines that someone must have covered her ears when it all started. That's a reasonable explanation given that Diego now has to tell her they're not getting married. She asks what about her little brother/sister and Diego doesn't answer.

Outside Bruno displays more schadenfreude (joy in the misfortune of others; see, you even get a little German tonight), "We're witnessing the downfall of Silvana Lombardo." Not that she didn't have it coming, but Bruno's not exactly a saint himself.

Emilia gets out of bed (see, that's what I was afraid of). She has a little pain when she sets both feet on the floor, but she continues getting up.

As the theme song plays, Azul and Diego (flanked by Clemi and Caty) walk towards each other. Azul has a pained expression on her face as she remembers: the first time they met; the incident with the draped red fabric; Diego macking on her after he fixed the strap on her red dress (remember that? Those were the good times). Azul's pained expression makes her nostrils flare to almost porcine proportions, and the camera angle isn't helping. She does this horrid slow-mo laugh/scream with her mouth wide open that's not terribly attractive either. Finally, she remembers the Love Shack and "Amar Sin Limites" plays as we go back to real time. They say each other's names, hug, and then suck face (Diego was trying to say something, but she shut him up).

We get a shot of Silvana crying ugly (see above re: porcine nostrils and unfortunate camera angles)--and seriously, are we supposed to care that she's sad?

More Diego and Azul sucking face. The wedding extras aren't sure what they're supposed to be doing. LuisFe is impactado. I feel only slightly sorrier for him than I do for Silvana. He also knew that a lot of what he was doing was wrong, but at least once he got hit over the head with the truth a few times he started trying to do the right thing. Azul cries and tells Diego she remembered everything all of a sudden (de golpe), he's her husband, Diego. GSD leads the standing ovation. He tells her this is proof that love has a memory. She says "Papa!" and hugs him. I will admit that this is where they got me. I could care less about her and Diego, but now she remembers everyone else. Then it's hugs for Ceci, who says she was happy to know Azul was alive, but nothing can compare to looking her in the eyes and knowing she's back. Clemi is up next (and boy, with all the hand-offs here, I bet Diego would love to have a minute alone with his not-dead wife). Caty now cries for her mami (scary, scary stuff there--either this is a brilliant young actress or, as Mr 5ft suggested, they gave her a really good scare right before the scene), poor moppet's going to wonder when Mami Liliana is scheduled to return from the dead. Lots of kisses for Caty. A hug for Anibal.

LuisFe finally turns and walks out of the chapel. Um, I guess her hugging Anibal was the last straw? I mean, I know Anibal's one of the best men on this show, but I would think that Azul sucking face with her husband would have been enough. A few reporters notice him leaving.

Diego and Azul suck face some more while squashing Caty between them. The V de G looks on.

LuisFe stands outside in the garden and thought bubbles "Goodbye, my Azucena, hasta siempre" (farewell). Commercials.

Somehow, the reporters are now outside the chapel and being held at bay by some poor nun. LuisFe comes out, but all he'll say is "I'm just the doctor for the kids in the orphanage." One of the reporters tells the nun that Silvana has to come show her face. Mario meets LuisFe outside and asks for an update. What he gets is "I lost the love of my life."

Now, out in the garden/walkway area, more hugs and crying. Manuel comes out and tries to put all the blame on Silvana and wash his hands of it. I won't repeat Manuel's pathetic attempt to get back in Diego's good graces. Clemi, in the understatement of the year calls Manuel a bad person. Lidia, Clemencia, and Diego all say they're done with him. I was hoping Diego would also tell him he's fired from the boutique (cause I'm mean like that, see above re: schadenfreude) but he doesn't. Diego and Azul kiss and hug some more, surrounded by family.

Back in the chapel, Silvana cries some more. The priest asks if she needs confession, but she says it's too much. The priest says he'll leave her with God, then and walks off. Gloria comes up and tells Silvana they're both alone now. She asks for forgiveness for following her heart no matter the price, and also because she'd do what she did (I'm guessing she means telling Diego the truth) all over again. Gloria says they've only got each other now. Silvana cries.

MS tells Azul that later she'll tell her more about the time she spent there (which I would think that Azul now remembers, but anyway). She says LuisFe bringing her there was a blessing. Azul suddenly remembers LuisFe and runs off to find him.

Manuel leaves the orphanage and runs into the reporters. He offers to show them a back way into the chapel to take pictures of Silvana…for a price, though. Parasite. Bruno asks how much for an exclusive.

Azul runs outside, shouting for LuisFe. Diego catches up and tells her the nuns said they just saw him leaving. He starts to say "I know that you and he…" and right then Emilia shows up. Uh, oh, she sure wasn't prepared for this. It's another teary reunion.

Bruno, that parasite, comes into the chapel with his camera guy, narrating that we're seeing the downfall of a woman, the full expression of loneliness. Silvana tells him to get out. She shoves Gloria out of her way and says she'd rather be dead and Gloria poisoned her life, she'll never forgive her, it's all her fault. Chucho says no, she had it coming, and even if Silvana doesn't want Gloria, he does! That Chucho's a stand-up guy. He's really impressed by what Gloria did today. Silvana curses her mother and Chucho escorts a crying Gloria out, after telling Silvana she's evil. Will they even show this on the fashion show, or just put it on YouTube? Commercials.

Emilia, Azul, and Diego go back into the orphanage. (Sit down, Emilia!) GSD comes up and starts to chew Emilia out for being there. She says she had to come console Silvana. GSD's like "you could hurt yourself!" and Emilia's like, "But Azul's alive!" GSD shuts up, since there's no counter to that. Gloria and Chucho come up and Azul forgives Gloria for "acting like a mother." She says it's all forgotten and clasps hands with Gloria.

In the back of the chapel, the reporters are still taking pictures. Silvana takes off her veil and goes over to give them a piece of her (deranged) mind. Bruno tries to spout some crap about the public having a right to know (which perhaps technically, we do, but is this really the kind of stuff we need to know?). Silvana now announces that Bruno helped her out by publishing stories about her in exchange for her sleeping with him. Now the other reporters turn on Bruno. Let's see how he likes it. He brings up the pictures of Silvana and Frijolito, which Silvana says he blackmailed her with.

Emilia comes in to console Silvana and Silvana pushes her. Cause she hasn't fulfilled her quota of evil deeds for the day, I guess. She rants about how Emilia was always on Azul's side, etc. Silvana runs off and GSD tries to calm Emilia down. Manuel stands outside, just watching everything, probably trying to think of a way to turn this to his advantage.

Out on the walkway, Gaspar shouts, "Jesus, verbo divino" (divine word), "It's the devil dressed as a bride!" Silvana now has to face Ceci, Gaspar, Efrain, Chucho, Diego, Azul, Gloria, Lidia, MS, Clemencia, none of whom are looking sympathetic except Gloria. She can't take it and runs off. Chucho stops Gloria from running after her and says they shouldn't try to help right now. Emilia and GSD come over and Emilia cries about Silvana, asking if they couldn't have stopped her. Emilia faints and GSD tells them to call a doctor. Commercials

In some restaurant, LuisFe asks Mario how he's supposed to get over Azul. Mario's semi-sympathetic. He says time will do the trick. His phone rings, with Ceci calling to tell him about Emilia, and he and LuisFe head over to GSD's.

MS and Diego confront the remaining reporters. Diego tells them they were in the house of God without permission. MS reminds them it's also private property. Diego warns them they'd better not do like Bruno and publish unsubstantiated information. He says (again) that the wedding is off, that Silvana's not having his baby, and that his real wife is alive and is his top priority.

Later, apparently, MS thanks Diego for helping her get everyone out of the orphanage. He apologizes for the circus. MS says there's no need and God works in mysterious ways. I'm not even going to touch that one. Diego asks Clemi and Anibal to take Caty home. She wants to stay with him and Azul, but he says he's going to pick her up at GSD's and they may take a while because they've got to take care of Emilia. Clemi starts to talk to Diego about being worried about Silvana. Anibal decides now would be a good time to get Caty out of earshot and he suggests they go get in the car and pretend Caty's driving. Aw. Cute. Chonita goes with them. Clemi gives Diego a hug. She says she feels really bad for Silvana, but Diego says he feels nothing for her. Clemi says that when Emilia's better, she and Emilia will figure something out, but Diego shouldn't worry about it, he should just go enjoy his wife. Is she talking about sex? Just wondering. Diego says everything seems perfect, but Azul did go running off after LuisFe. Diego says she's having LuisFe's baby, so they're going to have to figure some stuff out. Well, we know they're not, but he's still going to have to be told.

At GSD's, Mario and LuisFe arrive. Mario goes into the bedroom. LuisFe and Azul stare at each other and dramatic music plays. Ceci, metiche though she is, actually leaves the two of them alone and goes into the bedroom. Wow, that's some personal growth there.

Well, that's all from me on this show. Thanks for all the positive comments. I'll be taking up Al Diablo Con Los Guapos, so I hope to see you there. Tune in to Amar tomorrow and see what happens with Emilia's baby and the barely-there LuisFe-Azul-Diego triangle.

Amar sin Limites Tuesday January 15- Who's your daddy?

We rehash a few scenes from Monday - Ceci and Clemi trying to convince Diego to give Azul a chance while Silvana again attempts to become the one in charge, Gaspar and Julio debating what to do about Silvana and hoping to come to a decision before Gaspar becomes incapacitated with horror...

Diego leaves the room to be alone and Clemi tells Silvana to go. Silvana refuses saying that Diego is the one who says who stays and who goes. This lights a fire under Clemi and she lists a few of Silvana's faults - no morals, no values, no decency. Anibal has to calm Clemi down. But Anibal tries to argue that Azul may be happy where she is but Clemi's not buying it.

Chucho finds Gloria hiding in the boutique. He has figured out what Gloria was doing in Guadalajara, helping Silvana hide Azul. She claims she was only trying to help her daughter and the baby. Chucho is not happy with her and leaves while Gaspar lurks in the background.

Back at Diego's, the family is organizing the intervention. Julio and Arny have joined Ceci, Clemi and Anibal to argue the options of getting Azul back and getting rid of Silvana. Julio leaves to tell Diego all about Silvana's methods of career advancement.

Silvana is lamenting the fact to herself that Diego will never forgive her now. It looks like she's smiling but I think she was crying.

Julio tries to get Diego to come out and talk to him. Diego won't come out and Julio must kick in the door. All we hear is a bunch of noise and then Julio is in. Diego won't let Julio tell him anything and then requests that Julio show a little respect for his soon-to-be wife. Julio can't believe his ears. Diego has that vacant loco look in his eyes.

Arny tells the family that GSD and Emilia don't know the news yet, so as not to upset them. Julio comes back with the bad news that Diego won't listen and the wedding is still on.

Gloria, looking pretty pitiful, comes to talk to Silvana. Chucho despises them, she tells her daughter, and everyone else does too. Silvana still believes she deserves to be at Diego's side, life isn't fair, good Silvana tried to do it right but that didn't work, then bad Silvana tried and it's not working either. Gloria brings up honesty and dignity, a little late in my opinion.

Diego talks to Clemi in a robotic voice, saying he's going to marry Silvana for the sake of the children, their's and LuisFe and Azul's both. Clemi gives her best arguments but Diego plays the martyr role and will sacrifice himself.

Arny argues with Ceci to take him to see Azul. He understands that maybe she doesn't want to see her husband but he's her brother. Family. She should see him. Ceci will talk to Mario.

Out in the country, Mario and LuisFe discuss the situation. Mario cannot believe that Azul's father would have acted as Silvana said, abandoning Azul so easily. LuisFe reluctantly agrees that she should see her family but doesn't want to upset Azucena any more today. Maybe tomorrow. Mario mentions that her family deserves to know that the baby is not LuisFe's, which seems to be news to LF's mother. (I thought she knew?) I didn't catch what this conversation was about but the dramatic music played so if anyone can fill in the blanks, I'd appreciate it. I think they discussed the two babies, who fathered them and that maybe knowing who the fathers are would change the situations. Mario and LuisFe's mami convince LF that he can't make a family with Azucena until they figure all this out. Mario takes a call from Ceci. Ceci asks if Azul's brother can come see her but Mario says not today.

Diego goes to see Silvana and tells her the wedding is still on. Silvana is overwhelmed with gratitude while Diego is way underwhelmed.

LF visits Azulcena, who is looking pretty awful and resting in bed. He brings her some food but she has no appetite. LF mentions that her brother would like to visit. Azulcena is impactada because Silvana had told her that she had only her father. LF tells Azulcena about her family and that he knows her father personally. Azulcena is touched that her father really does love her and that she had people who cared. She agrees to see them, to decide for herself if it is true.

GSD is pacing and Julio and Arny are waiting. The doorbell rings and Azul has arrived to be reunited with her family. GSD is so happy to see her but Azul can't remember anything or anyone. GSD starts the introductions, but Azul still has her Azulcena look on. Azul is overwhelmed and upset that she can't remember. LF is there to comfort her. They are all uncomfortable so, like all good families, they bring out the food. It seems they have all her favorite things. She eats a grape and cries, then drinks a glass of papaya juice like she hasn't had anything to drink for weeks.

Silvana is extremely happy getting ready for her wedding. Like anyone else is going to feel like celebrating! The slimy Manuel slithers in to see Silvanita. He disgusts even her. He offers his congratulations on her imminent nuptials. Silvana thinks she has pulled off quite a feat, getting Diego to marry her even though he knows that Azul is alive. Silvana thinks that all the shadows over her happiness will be gone now but Manuel reminds her that there is one shadow left, the false pregnancy. Of course, Gloria is lurking in the doorway listening. Silvana figures she will just pretend to lose the baby in a couple months. Manuel asks what will keep Diego with her then? By then she thinks that Diego will love her and need to comfort her. Gloria hears it all.

Back at the reunion, GSD is filling Azul in on her past with Mauricio (was that this telenovela?) and how they came to think she was dead. They tell her how much Diego loved her and that he refused to believe that she was dead. They tell her that Silvana is a liar and then Julio tells them all that Silvana slept her way to the top, which is news to Ceci.

Silvana arrives at the chapel in full wedding regalia to hordes of reporters. Diego waits with Caty and Gloria, who is dressed in hot pink sequins and looking very guilty. Diego goes out to meet Silvana and sees all the press. He is mad at Silvana for telling them about the wedding. Silvana begs him not to ruin her day. Silvana says a few words for the press about her dress. If I were Diego, she would be wearing a potato sack.

The family is going through photo albums and telling Azul all about the pictures. GSD tells her about Emilia's pregnancy. Azul finds out that she is a psychologist. LuisFe is being very patient and understanding while all this is going on. He announces that the baby Azul is carrying is Diego's. LF makes the mistake of mentioning Diego's upcoming wedding. Ceci and Julio try to convince her to go stop the wedding but Azul says no. She wants to be with LuisFe.

At the chapel, Manuel arrives to give away the bride. Eeewww. The attendees start to file into the church. Gloria is looking worse and worse. She sees Chucho and goes to talk to him. She knows he'll never forgive her but she's sorry for all she's done and she will try to make it right. Chucho says, too little too late and walks away. Gloria calls Ceci and tells her that she has just found out that Silvana is not pregnant. Ceci begs Gloria to do something to stop the wedding. Ceci announces the news to the rest of the family. Everyone is impactados. Ceci begs Azul to go and stop the wedding before Diego's life is ruined by that harpy. Azul says but she doesn't love Diego.

At the chapel, the wedding music plays, the groom arrives at the altar and the bride begins her grand entrance with Manuel hanging onto his meal ticket's arm. Gloria finally steps up! She calls out to Diego while Silvana hisses at her. Gloria goes up to the front of the church to tell Diego that Silvana was never pregnant. Don't mind all those people watching. Diego glares at Silvana and she looks only slightly sick.....

Until next episode...

Amar Sin Limites January 14: In which Gaspar gets dizzy from all the dramatic revelations and we can sympathize

This is my last Amar recap folks! We are in the home stretch with the gran final on Friday. I will be moving to Thursday to start recapping Pasion next week. I must say that I enjoyed Amar very much right up until the tacked on extenda-ending after Mo went to jail. If they had ended it there, I think it would have been one of my favorites. It had a lot of good characters, even some that I didn’t like that grew on me, like GSD and Emilia. I like a little more intrigue in my novelas and although this one had the potential to be pretty violent, I don’t think the body count will be anywhere near Duelo de Pasiones. Lets face it, the main couple in most novelas are very annoying!

On with the show!

Ceci and Mario sitting in a tree K.I.S.S… well not exactly sitting in a tree. Sitting among some trees at a little table near a waterfall. Mario has the moves and he’s made an unforgettable destination-wedding proposal for our girl Ceci. Romantic Music plays over the scene. Maybe you latin pop music mavens can tell us what the song is.

Switch to a big family dinner at a restaurant with Diego and Silvana presiding over a dismal grouping of Gloria, Chucho, Caty, Anibal and Clemi… Silvana remarks cuttingly that Emilia, her ex-sister-in-law, her therapist and (who she thought was her friend) doesn’t seem to have been able to make it. Diego responds that she ought to know that Emilia can’t leave the house because she’s on bed rest due to her pregnancy, "but she told me that she wishes us the best.” Clemi adds that Lidia is on her honeymoon in Acapulco and that’s why she’s not there. Just then Manuel staggers in drunk and LOUD. He immediately picks up a glass full of wine from the table to make a toast. Diego gets up and apologizes to the entire restaurant and gets Manuel to sit down. Silvana launches into a discussion about how she and her Mom went shopping today for a wedding dress. Manuel butts in to say "HOW FUNNY! I read in the paper that you were at a maternity shop. I didn’t know that they sold wedding dresses in a maternity shop!” Clemi tries to get him to shut up, as if he were trying to point out the breach of decorum in Silvana being a pregnant bride. (Of course Silvana is not pregnant and Manuel knows it, so we can only hope that he will let that slip too…) Manuel complains that he didn’t mean anything by the comment but Silvana cuts in to say that maternity shops weren’t the only places they went. But anyway, they didn’t have anything she wanted. She turns silkily to Diego and demands that he design her wedding dress. Diego gets a sick look on his face. Perhaps he’s recalling his various wedding dress designs—the one he made for Azul for her wedding with Mo, that ended up getting torn up and recycled as a beach sundress after he kidnapped her. Then the one he made for her when they actually got married. Yep, the whole wedding dress design thing has Azul stamped all over it.

Back to Ceci and Mario. Mario tells her that Azucena and LF have gone horseback riding. Ceci says it sounds like fun and that they should do that too. Suddenly, Azucena and LF appear around a corner, laughing and kissing. Ceci is thundering drums impactada. She chokes out “Azucena!” She runs up to them both and starts shrieking hysterically. “You can’t be with her! You can’t be with her!” directed at LF. Azucena turns snippy. “Who are you to tell me want I can’t do? LF loves me, and I love him!” Ceci shakes her head in disbelief. “You can’t be with him, Azul!” LF repeats “AZUL?” Azul asks her if she knows her. Ceci who is now crying says “Of course I know you. I am Ceci, your best friend. Ceci goes to hug her and Azul steps back and tells her not to touch her. Azul tells her if she was ever her friend, to forget her. Ceci tells her she can’t. She’s got to come back. Azul says she doesn’t want to know anything about her past and she’s not going back. She runs away and LF runs after her. Mario is incredulous. He says that he thought Azul was dead. Ceci says that she doesn’t know how it happened but Azul, her best friend, her sister is ALIVE!

Back at the dinner, Silvana is prattling on about what kind of wedding dress she wants Diego to design. Something simple…that he would like. She doesn’t seem to have noticed that Diego is very unexcited by the prospect. Everybody is pretty morose looking at the table, even little Caty. Diego finally agrees to make the dress just to shut her up. She then says that they should arrange to get together TO TALK ABOUT THE DRESS SOME MORE and Diego cuts her off, saying that he prefers to work alone, and that she should trust in his good taste. Finally, Silvana gets the hint and quiets down. She switches topics to announce to the family that Madre Maria over at the Orphanage has gotten a priest for their wedding and, Diego adds, reserved the chapel there for the wedding. (Oooh, more bad taste on the part of Silvana, his wife’s funeral was there only 2 months ago, creepy). Clemi comments “How nice. It will be intimate and discreet.” Manuel decides to butt in again to announce how there is no way that the ceremony will be discreet, what with Diego being a famous designer and Silvana being a famous model and all. (He said some other stuff but his drunken slurring of words made it a little hard to understand and probably not all that worthwhile anyway). Diego raises his voice to insist that NOBODY FROM THE PRESS will be allowed in. He turns to Silvana to say “is that clear?!” Silvana tries to backpedal to try to get Bruno in but Diego is firm and refuses to budge on this point. Manuel who has been stealing wine from other people’s glasses barely gets out that he thinks it will be hard to keep the reporters away. Anibal says not if they don’t know the date. Gloria tries to help her daughter out by saying that the paparazzi follow her everywhere, how are they going to hide from them? Diego says that if everyone is discreet, they won’t have a problem. Silvana says lets do it soon then, in 15 days. Diego says no, the chapel will be ready the day after tomorrow. Clemi is surprised. Diego says that Madre Maria advised him to get married soon, due to the baby on board. Silvana says great, the sooner the better.

Back to tearful Ceci, still outside talking to Mario. She apologizes for losing it but …in any event, Azul is MARRIED TO DIEGO! Mario says LF has got to know that.

Meanwhile, Azul and LF are inside the house. They are both freaked out by this latest revelation but Azul is adamant that she will not talk to Ceci and she doesn’t want LF’s mom to know either. LF says OK, he’ll talk to Cecilia. LF’s mom comes out in her bathrobe, it looks like she just got out of the shower. She said she heard a commotion. Azul shakes her head. Mama is suspicious.

Mario tells LF that Ceci has something important to say to him. LF says he has something important to say too. LF starts out by asking why she called her “Azul.” Ceci shoots back that “that’s because that’s who she is. She’s the daughter of Dr. Alfredo Toscano.” LF cries that Dr. Toscano told him that his daughter DIED in an accident. DIED! Ceci says that’s what everybody thought. EXCEPT DIEGO. He thought she could still be alive because her body was never found. And it turned out HE WAS RIGHT. LF says he doesn’t believe it. Ceci shoots back that it’s the truth. Azul is her best friend, the mother of Caty and the WIFE of Diego. Ceci says she has to tell Azul everything. LF says no, she’s not going to tell AZUCENA anything. Mario looks grim. His plans for the evening are shot.

Mario tries to reason with LF. He says that he’s already explained to Ceci that Azucena has to learn the truth little by little. She can’t have it dumped on her—it could harm her and the baby. LF says that Azucena already knows about her past. She knows and she doesn’t want to go back. She wants to be with him, to start a family with THEIR baby. Ceci says WHAT? LF goes on a tirade saying that Diego lost his rights over Azul when he got jiggy with Silvana and put her in his house. Ceci tries to butt in that Diego is only marrying Silvana because she’s pregnant. LF says that it just shows how sad Diego was that he couldn’t even mourn his wife before he was making a baby with another woman. LF says that Azul is the injured party here. It’s pretty obvious that Diego didn’t care at all about her disappearance. Ceci says it’s a pack of lies and she asks if he knew this whole time who she was and hid it from everybody. Mario butts in to say that that’s not true. It was Azul who found out and didn’t tell him—she only said that she wanted to leave the past behind her. LF says that “It’s what she wants and I’m going to support her.” Ceci complains that he may be able to keep her away “But not her Family.” She leaves abruptly. Mario follows her in, promising LF, he’ll try to calm her down.

Back at Clemi and Anibal’s, Diego is with Clemi and Caty. Caty is babbling about how excited she is to be sleeping over at Grampa and Gramma’s in Aunt Lidia’s room. Diego is going to the workshop to work all night on a dress for Silvana. Clemi offers to go with him, to help. Diego says Chucho offered too but he doesn’t want any help. He wants to be alone. Clemi says she’s worried about him but Diego says that he’s thinking of his child. His child will give him a reason to live, to move forward.

Ceci is now pissed and she’s taking it out on Mario. She accuses him of taking his friend’s side. Mario says no, but he’s lived this whole history of LF and Azucena’s and all the trouble they’ve had. Ceci corrects him AZUL! Mario tries to calm her down some more, explaining that LF tried to find out who she was, took her to Doctors to try to help her recover her memory. Ceci interrupts to ask how, now that he knows, he can continue with this crazy state of affairs. Mario says that he loves her. He fought with his mom, with the MS, and even with him to keep her near him. Mario adds that they were together until…SILVANA…Ceci interrupts again. Now she sees what happened. Silvana knew. Mario says that Silvana met her at the orphanage and that she became friendly with Azucena and then later she disappeared with her. Ceci figures that Silvana took Azul away to keep her separated from Diego so she could have him. Mario starts to say…I don’t know…what happened …” "AZUL!” Ceci screams at him again. (Poor Mario. Monkey in the middle. I wonder how much money he spent on this romantic getaway. ) Mario quietly tells her that he doesn’t know what happened but when Azul and LF got back together, Azul only wanted to start her life with LF. Ceci is sure that Silvana spun a web of lies to Azul to make her think she wanted nothing to do with any of them. Mario remarks that “maybe all she told her was that she was marrying Diego. That might have been enough.” Ceci isn’t so sure. And anyway, “what she did is a crime.” Silvana saw that Diego was in pain for having lost Azul and “all along she knew that Azul was alive.” Mario counters that Diego can’t have been that upset since he took up with Silvana immediately. Ceci says that, “if anybody knows how much Diego loved Azul, it’s me.”

Over at the boutique workshop, Diego is working on designs for the wedding dress. Judging from the crumpled paper. It’s not going well. He looks at pictures. He crumples some more paper. He looks at a naked toro—I mean mannequin. He drapes some cloth on it. He remembers taking measurements of Azul and making the other dress. We get a reprise of “Vuelve.” He kisses a ghostly Azul wearing the wedding dress. He returns to the drawing table and punches the paper with his pen. I think Silvana is going to be wearing a bed sheet.

Back to Mario and Ceci. Mario has driven Ceci all the way back to the city. He drops her in front of a hotel. That was quick! He asks if she wants him to come with her. She says no. She wants to confront Silvana herself. Mario looks forlorn. We get a shot of Silvana in her hotel room trying on pillows in front of a mirror. There’s knock at the door. When Silvana goes to open it, Ceci rushes at her and slaps her hard in the face. “Stupid! [Imbecile] You knew that Azul was alive and you didn’t tell us.” Silvana replies that she did it to save Diego from pain. That she’s in love with someone else.” Ceci says, yes. she knows. Silvana is surprised to hear this. “YES SHOUTS CECI. I’ve seen my friend and SHE’S ALIVE.” She cries. Silvana is impactada. Ceci accuses her of telling Azul that she was helping her, when all she did was fill her head with lies. Silvana denies this and she says she did it so that Diego wouldn’t die of grief. Silvana further lies that Azul is pregnant with LF’s child and this would have hurt Diego. Ceci complains that all these lies were for Silvana’s benefit. Silvana agrees that that might be so, but she saw nothing wrong since Diego couldn’t have Azul back. Ceci exclaims that Silvana didn’t have the right to decide that. Silvana tries the LF argument again. “If you’ve seen them together, you’ve seen the love that exists between them.” Silvana feigns that she was on the point of telling Diego but she just couldn’t break his heart like that. She starts to make the case to Ceci to help her cover this up but Ceci will have none of it. She has not the smallest doubt she says that she should tell Diego. Silvana tries to guilt trip her that “she’ll leave 2 kids without a father.” Ceci is still having none of it. She says she already knows that Diego was going to help with her kid. Silvana decides to threaten Ceci instead. She says she won’t permit Ceci to separate her from Diego. Ceci calls her crazy and says that she’s not crazy like her. She’s going directly to tell Diego that his wife, the woman he really loves is alive. She turns around and runs out the door, slamming it. (And here I was wondering if we were going to get another murder.) Silvana turns around and looks all squirrelly. She starts talking to herself about how this is going to screw up her wedding with Diego. (Yah Think?)

Ceci is getting ferried all over town by the good sport Mario. She’s at Diego’s house and Chonita is at the door in her nightgown. No Sr. Diego isn’t here. Why doesn’t she try his cell phone? Ceci says she did but he’s turned it off. Chonita says that he’s probably not coming home tonight. He even left Caty with the grandparents. Ceci is beside herself. Where do I look she asks Mario who is more at sea than she is.

Diego is asleep on his desk. Someone comes in behind him in the boutique and rubs his back. It’s Silvana. He wakes up. She remarks that the dress is lovely…but she can’t marry him. Diego is surprised. Silvana says she needs to show him something.

Back in the village, LF takes Azucena back to her room, which is filled with candles, true romance style. He starts to leave but Azucena tells him that she still wants to sleep with him. He comes back into the room and they start to make out on the bed. All of the sudden, LF jumps up and says he can’t. Now that he knows. Azucena insists that it’s OK, that she is more decided than ever to leave the past behind her. And it’s even better now that he knows the truth because now there are no secrets between them either. When LF mentions the rest of her family, Azucena says bitterly that she’s going to pay them back for not looking for her by forgetting them. She knows that they are out there but she doesn’t want to see them. She starts crying. LF hugs her.

Now we see what Silvana has brought Diego. Azul’s diary. She gives it to him to read and stands behind him smiling and crying.

Ceci and Mario are still outside Diego’s house. Ceci is still wondering what to do. It’s almost dawn. She doesn’t know who to call because she wants to tell Diego first and she doesn’t want to wake anybody else with the surprising news. It could give someone a heart attack. Ceci says she’ll wait at Diego’s house.

At the Boutique, Diego has read enough. Silvana says “So now you know, Azul is alive and in love with someone else.” Diego can’t believe it at first. Then he goes through the elation of realizing that Azul is alive…that he was right. He demands to know where she is. Silvana says “with her lover.” She explains that this lover is none other than Dr. Luis Felipe Pena. Yes, that guy he knows from the orphanage. Diego staggers around the room. At first he says that Azul would be incapable of doing such a thing to him. Then he gets crazy and puts his hands around Silvana’s neck and screams at her to tell him where she is. Silvana throws the diary at him and tells him that it’s all in there. Diego throws the diary back at her.

It’s the next morning and Diego has arrived at the village where LF lives. He bursts into the house with Silvana in tow and asks LF’s mom where Azul is. She looks at him like he’s nuts. He explains that he knows her as Azucena and that she’s his wife. He says he needs to see her right away. LF’s mom says she’s not there, she went to the spring. She’ll get her. Diego won’t wait, he follows her out, leaving Silvana there, a little nervous. Diego sneaks up to where she is sitting. At first he is excited to see Azul alive but then LF enters the picture, putting his hands around her eyes in a gesture of tenderness and playfulness and Diego freaks. Just then, LF’s mom comes up and says let her go first and warn them. Meanwhile, more happychat between LF and Azulcena. I had a really hard time hearing this because they were standing right next to the waterfall. She expresses more resentment of her past and wants to forget it. LF assures her of a bright future with him. They kiss. Just then, mom runs up and tells LF to let her go. Her HUSBAND’s here. Azucena’s eyes get big and she says that she doesn’t want to see him. She runs off. Diego sees her and tries to run after her. LF gets in front of him to tell him that she doesn’t want to see him. Diego is crazed and starts to fight with LF, Mom and Silvana who has finally followed them up here, try to pry the two men apart.

It’s morning in the city too and Ceci and poor, longsuffering Mario have spent the night in his car in front of Diego’s house. They are still sleeping when Clemi and Anibal arrive with Caty. Ceci wakes up and sees him. She gets up and runs to them. Clemi says that she thought Diego would be home by now so that’s why she brought Caty. Ceci says no but she can’t spill the beans in front of Caty. Clemi tells Anibal to take Caty inside. As soon as he does, Ceci tells her that she needs to see Diego right away. She has to tell him that Azul is alive.

Back to the fight between Diego and LF, which is a full on knock down drag out brawl. The women are still trying to drag them apart. They get in eachothers’ faces, Diego screaming that LF stole a married woman from her husband. LF screams back that Diego didn’t deserve her if as soon as she disappeared he took up with another woman and got her pregnant. LF wants to know what Diego wants to do, have two pregnant wives at his house? (Good point, LF. This sure ain’t gonna be Big Love). More trash talk in front of the waterfall that’s hard to hear. Silvana clambers on the rocks in her high heels. Silvana yells at Diego that Azul is pregnant with LF’s baby. Diego is frozen in mid punch. Ceferino, the family friend or whatever runs up and tries to stop the fight too. He’s just come back from the house and says that Azucena is there and says she doesn’t want to see any Diego guy. LF has a look of triumph. “That’s the last word, from Azucena.” He marches off toward the house. Ceferino says something about leaving marriage forms in his car. Diego is completely stunned by all of this and sits down on the ground. Silvana nearby. He tells himself that Azul is expecting that guy’s baby and that she’s going to marry him! Back at the house Ceferino says he can see that things are a bit complicated and that they probably have a lot to talk about so he’d better go. LF starts to go into the house. Mama grabs him by the arm. She tells LF that he should have let Diego speak to her. He had a right to try to fix things with his wife. LF says that Azucena said she didn’t want to talk to him. She said so. He points out that there is no way that he came here to fix his relationship with Azucena, when he brought his lover who is pregnant with his child and with them about to get married tomorrow. Mama looks doubtful but has nothing to say to that.

Diego is back near the waterfall overturning furniture now, in a rage. He yells at Silvana for hiding the truth from him. Silvana says she did it for love and so that he wouldn’t be hurt. “WITH WHAT DAMN RIGHT?” he asks. Silvana says that she decided after she became pregnant and Azul was also pregnant, reverting to the “I did it for the children” argument. And she says she wanted to avoid THIS. After repeating the “by what right…” thing again, Diego responds that Azul will have to face him and tell him that she doesn’t love him anymore. Silvana repeats that LF just asked her to marry him and that she is carrying LF’s baby. (Remember that this is a lie, but I guess Silvana figures it’s the last one she’s got so she might as well use it).
We are suddenly swept back to the boutique where Gaspar is looking at Diego’s wedding dress designs. Julio comes in and asks Gaspar if he’s seen Diego. Ceci and the others are all looking for him desperately. Gaspar says no, and he remarks that Diego doesn’t seem to have gotten very far with the dress. After Julio leaves, Gaspar recalls the dress that Diego made for Azul and how beautiful it was. “What love creates!” he sighs. He does a turn around the room and spies the diary on the floor. He pages through it. He rushes out with it and shows it to Ceci, Clemi and Julio. Ceci figures out that Silvana must have stopped by and shown it to Diego. They have to find him!

Back at the waterfall, Silvana is begging Diego to leave this place with her and marry her tomorrow as planned. If he wants, they can divorce later. (I’m sorry, but isn’t that bigamy? He at least has to divorce Azul now that he knows that she’s alive. It would make divorcing Silvana unnecessary in any event since the marriage wouldn’t be legally or ecclesiastically valid.)

Inside the house, Azulcena is crying some more and LF is trying to comfort her some more. Mama proffers tea and tells her to calm down for her baby’s sake. LF tells her that he will do everything he can to keep Diego away from her. Azulcena repeats the lie that Silvana told her about Diego causing the accident that left her in this state and says what a jerk he is for bringing his lover with him to try to see her. LF says that Diego and Silvana deserve each other but her father is a good man, she should at least see him. Azulcena rejects this and brings up the newspaper article that showed that he travelled out of the country right after she went missing.

At the boutique, Julio and Gaspar are wondering what to do. Julio says he knows what HE’s going to do. Now that he’s seen the full horror of Silvana, he’s going to tell Diego the truth about her. In fact, he’s going to tell the whole world how she got to be the famous model she is. Gaspar wants to know, he’s dying to know the dark secret of Silvana. Julio says that she slept her way to the top. She slept with anybody who would help her, the head of the modeling agency, photographers, and reporters. Even Bruno! Gaspar shrieks that he can’t take so many revelations in one day and feigns a dizzy spell. Julio doesn’t buy it which makes Gaspar over-act even more.

Diego has arrive home, looking terrible from the fight and moving like Frankenstein's monster. Silvana tries to speak for him saying that he saw Azul and she’s happy where she is. Clemi tells her to shut up. Ceci tries to ask Diego what happened, if Azul recognized him. Diego tells her that Azul didn’t want to see him. Ceci says “she did the same thing to me.” Diego interrupts her and repeats what we’ve heard a million times now, that Azul is in love with LF, that she’s pregnant with his baby, blah blah. Clemi argues that Diego is her husband. “Officially,” says Diego, I am her widower. She was declared dead.” “Yes, says Clemi, but when you show that she’s alive…” Diego says that he will do no such thing. If Azul is happy as Azucena, he will not ask for his rights to claim her as his wife. Diego stares straight ahead. Silvana looks relieved. Everybody else is left open mouthed.

Amar Friday Jan 11, 2008 Finally, an aha! moment!

There are a couple of overlap scenes that I will skip.

Then, Azul and LF are talking about starting a new family. Silvana overhears from the hall. They are in the hospital, I guess, but I don't know why Silvana is there. She smirks triumphantly.

Gloria goes to see Chucho and asks him to save her from herself. Efrain and Julio joke about something, like he can't keep her away with a baseball bat.

Azul cries to LF how awful her life is--her family abandoned her. Her husband loves someone else. If you still love me, she says, I will be Azucena for you. With Silvana still listening, LF proposes marriage. Azul smiles goofily, Azucena style.

Diego suddenly shows up, and Silvana feigns illness and quickly takes him away so he won't hear anything of Azul. Chance number 1 for someone to catch on--chance lost.

Gloria tells Chucho she needs forgiveness for having done a bad thing. She seems to be going through her whole history of having been an actress and abandoning her daughter.

Silvana now discusses her relationship with Diego. She wants to take it slow. They will have separate bedrooms. She will not bother him. The baby needs family.

He says he's not in love with her, but she is a good woman (idiot!) and the mother of his child. Silvana now says she doesn't want to hurt Caty. She will back off and leave Diego in charge of the little moppet. Wow, that's great, Diego says. He also mentions Frijolito, and Silvana's radar goes off. Danger, Will Robinson, Danger Danger.
No, it's okay--the Little Bean will be in the slammer for two years. She breathes a figurative sigh of relief. Why is Silvana being so nice here? She must be up to something.

MS is now talking to LF. She spurts out "Jesus Mary and Joseph, why are you with that woman and her child?" Now, I'm not Catholic, but would a nun really say "Jesus Mary and Joseph"? Anyway, she does seem meanspirited, too. LF defends his actions, in that poor Azulcena has been abandoned, etc.

Silvana is now talking to Diego about returning to her career.

Lidia is in her office with Efrain. He tries to be the apologist for Tavo.

Mario and Ceci are out together, when Mario receives a call from LF about Azul's pregnancy problem. They'll rush over to help. Maybe now Ceci will see Azul.

Tavo is now at Clemi's house with the whole family assembled. The doorbell rings, and it's Efrain bringing Lidia over for a surprise proposal. A long boring speech occurs, which I fast forwarded through. Now they are back together and getting married. Who cares.

Oops, chance number 2 fails. Ceci decides not to meet Azucena--it wouldn't be right while she is ill. She'll wait. Mario fears it's because she doesn't want to see LF, but she assures him that's not the problem.

Silvana calls Bruno, the Perez Hilton of this show, to give him the scoop that she and Diego are getting married. But Diego doesn't want much publicity, and he won't be interviewed. Manuel worries that Azul will see the story on the news. Don't worry, Silvana tells him. She's been poisoned with the idea that Diego doesn't love her, and since Frijolito is in jail, the secret is safe.

LF, Azul and LF's mom have a coffee klatsch. Mom is still very negative to Azul. Azul says she is going to call herself by her new name, Azucena. LF wants to confront Diego, so they can straighten things out so the baby is legit. It's not clear if he wants Azul and Diego to get divorced so the baby will be LFs, or he wants it to be Diego's legitimately. Whatever, any talk of his contacting Diego sets of a bad reaction by Azul. He must not let the past intrude! He agrees not to contact Diego.
Chance number 3 gone!

Diego goes to tell GSD, Emilia and the others about his impending nuptials. They are underwhelmed.

Cut to Silvana in a restaurant. She is entertaining the waiter with her discussion of what she is going to eat since she's now eating for two.

Silvana has another discussion with Bruno.

LF and his mother keep arguing. He decides to call a lawyer.

Azul wanders around outside talking to a nice Holstein. Maybe it was better not knowing the past, she says. LF comes over and kisses her tummy. The cow moos.

Chucho now interrogates Silvana about Gloria. He says he knows something is not right with Gloria, and it's all Silvana's fault. Just as he leaves, Manuel comes in. Silvana scolds him for showing up at an inopportune time. He says too bad--he needs money. No way, she says.

Mario now calls LF to say he is getting married. LF tells Azul. She is very excited--can't wait to meet the girl.

Silvana calls Gloria to get her to go shopping for maternity clothes and a wedding dress.
Silvana then tries to get Manuel to go see Lidia and to leave her alone.

Azul sees the news of Silvana's wedding on TV. Oops. She decides she's going to sleep with LF.

Silvana is trying on clothes with her mother. Somebody videotapes her surreptitiously. Gloria is ecstatic about the baby, etc. Silvana coyly asks if she has decided to keep helping. Why, says Gloria. Silvana reveals that Chucho came to see her. If Gloria reveals anything, Silvana will go away and Gloria will never see her again? This part is not clear to me. Help, anyone.

Manuel shows up at home and complains to his ex about Lidia. How could they not invite him to the wedding? Well you're a creep--remember?
She reminds him that Lidia forbade her to contact him. She got married on the spur of the moment and it was only a civil ceremony. Now she is on her honeymoon.

Ceci and Mario go for a ride. He has blindfolded her. They stop on the side of what looks like a bucolic interstate highway with lots of traffic going by. He lets her out and removes the blindfold. How romantic!

(I'm from the hippie generation, and I really don't understand the new cult of over-the-top weddings and elaborate ambush marriage proposals. (we already had one earlier in the show with Lidia). I especially find blindfolding creepy. There's a lot of pressure on men to come up with these original ideas. They're so "original" that certain venues now have made it into a business. For example, at NYC's Rockefeller Center skating rink, according to an article I read the other day, they will now clear the rink every hour for someone who rents the rink for a surprise proposal. This is so popular it goes on all day, apparently. Well, that's my rant for today. I was married at City Hall.)

Anyway, Mario reblindfolds Ceci and takes her into a wooded glen for a real proposal. Ceci says yes.

Meanwhile, Diego and his family are assembled in a restaurant for dinner. Mario comes in drunk. There is an altercation. Silvana says that she couldn't find a nice wedding dress, and she wants Diego to make one. Everyone looks uncomfortably impactado.

Finally, Ceci and Mario go to see LF and Azucena. At the very end of the episode, Ceci spies Azul kissing LF. She is impactada. Aha!

Amar Sin Limites: Thursday 1/10/08: We inch closer to the end.....

Frijolito is busted trying to break out of the orphanage. When he tries to explain his mission to the Mother Superior, he is cut off before he can give the great reveal that would bring about the end to this saga. All he says is that he needs to help their patron. MS tells him all he’s done is make things worse for himself; they’ll probably punish him for years.

Chuco misses Gloria and gives her a call in Guadalajara. He tells her she needs to come back to DF or he’ll go there. Gloria gives Silvana a call to fill her in and Silvana is appropriately worried that Chuco’s arrival would ruin her plans. While on the phone with her daughter, Gloria refers to Azulcena as Azul, which Azulcena overhears. She demands to know what’s going on. Silvana overhears the commotion on the other end and she tells her mom that she’s coming there; she needs to deal with this in person.

Diego tells his mother about his proposal to Silvana. Clemi is happy to know that Diego is willing to make this kind of sacrifice for his child (twisted, warped thinking, IMO). Diego tells Clemi that Silvana didn’t say yes; instead, she says she’s got to think about it. Clemi finds this a bit strange, but then moves onto other gossip. She gives Diego the low down on what happened with Lidia and Tavo.

Speaking of Tavo, he’s getting an “I told you so” lecture from Efrain. Tavo knows that he was insecure and now he’s sure of Lidia’s love. She’s changed and he didn’t. Diego shows up to beat Tavo up for hurting his sister---what a mature way to handle the situation. Tavo does a good job convincing Diego that he truly loves his sister because the next time we see Diego, he’s talking to Lidia about forgiving Tavo and never giving up on your true love. Tavo’s next scene is him telling Efrain that he’s going to get Lidia back.

Silvana shows up in Guadalajara. Gloria tells her daughter that she can’t continue helping her. Silvana begs and cries. She tells Gloria that Diego proposed to her and if he finds out that Azul is alive, he’ll abandon her and her baby. Gloria doesn’t seem to fall for the crocodile tears, though she is moved by her daughter’s plight. Silvana switches to full out emotional blackmail. She tells her mother that she must prefer Azul over her and that if Gloria is not with her, then she’s against her (it is really a black and white world that Silvana lives in). Gloria tries to reason with her, but it is in vain. She tells Silvana that Azulcena now knows who she is. Silvana wants an Azulcena update before she talks to her. Gloria says that after she hung up the phone, Azulcena was in such a state they called the doctor. Silvana’s upset that something might have happened to the baby. Gloria assures her that everything’s fine, but Azulcena has to rest. Silvana goes to talk to her rival.

In her room, Azul confronts Silvana. She wants to know why this is the second time that someone’s called her Azul. She knows that Silvana knows who she really is and she demands to be told her identity. Silvana fesses up some truth---she’s Azul and she is the wife of Diego Moran. Azulcena is shocked; her husband is Silvana’s baby-daddy? Then the lies start to pour out of Silvana. She tells Azulcena that Diego and she have been lovers for quite some time; Diego never loved his wife, didn’t want her to have the baby, and was planning on divorcing her. That’s why when she came up missing he didn’t even bother to look for her. Azulcena says she was married to a some sort of monster. Silvana mentions Caty and this piques Azulcena’s interest. Silvana says that she’s Diego’s adopted daughter and the reason he adopted her was because she was the child of Silvana’s best friend. Azulcena says this all can’t be possible. She demands to know why Silvana didn’t tell her this before. Gloria, who’s been listening at the door, picks this time to come into the conversation, but Silvana shuts her mother down before she can disrupt her string of lies. Silvana shows Azulcena the paper announcing her engagement to Diego. She rubs in that Diego didn’t even wait two months after Azul’s “death” to propose. Azulcena wants to know what happened, how’d she lose her memory. Silvana says that she found out the truth about Silvana and Diego being lovers and took off upset and had an accident. Azulcena doesn’t understand why no one else looked for her. Silvana tells her that her mom’s dead and her father is a work-a-holic who’s got no time for her. Azulcena questions why Silvana’s been trying to help her. Silvana says she felt bad that Diego never loved her and she was just trying to help Azulcena build a new life. Azulcena calls her a manipulator. Silvana says she’s told Diego that Azul’s alive but he wanted nothing to do with her any more and he’s happy that she’s found a new man (LuisFe). This is too much for Azulcena to take and she faints.

Julio and Arnie are helping celebrate the end of Emilia’s first trimester with her and Alfredo. Alfie even brought her a gift for the baby. He presents her with a life insurance policy, just in case something were to happen to him he wants to make sure that he’s provided for his child. Mario makes a house call and gives Emilia the ‘all’s well’ clearance. He suggests she might want to have an amnio, but she tells him that she and Alfie have decided that no matter what, they are having this baby so there is no real reason to find out if anything is wrong, because it doesn’t matter.

Gloria shows concern for a passed out Azulcena, but Silvana doesn’t seem to be concerned. Gloria is ticked at her daughter’s attitude and she’s even angrier to find out that the baby Azul’s carrying is really Diego’s. Silvana lied to her. Once again, Gloria tries to talk some sense into her daughter. She tells her that she can’t build a marriage based on a lie, that there is time to change her ways. Silvana say nope, I’m going ahead with my plans.
The doctor comes again and says that Azulcena needs to rest. Azulcena informs Silvana that she’s going to leave and won’t ever be a bother to her or Diego. Silvana makes some comment about her having a future with LuisFe.

Manuel shows up to talk to Lidia. He tries to make excuses for missing their dinner plans. Lidia tells him that there will be no wedding. Manuel, ever the sensitive man, says that’s great because Tavo wasn’t a good catch. Lidia kicks him out, but she’s a lot nicer than I would have been in that situation.

Diego has a conversation with Azul’s picture. He wants her to understand why he proposed to Silvana.

Azulcena sneaks out in the night. The next morning Gloria tells Silvana that the bird has flown the coop. Silvana is worried that she’ll head straight to Diego. Gloria is worried that something might happen to Azul, seeing as she’s been ordered to rest. Gloria’s had enough and tells her daughter she won’t be helping her anymore. Silvana whines that Gloria promised to help and anyway, now she’s in too deep. Silvana calls Gloria her accomplice.

Diego and the MS are talking to Frijolito’s lawyer. The abogado tells them that the judge won’t give any lenience to Frijo’s case. He’s going to get the maximum—two years in juvie.

Azulcena has found her way back to the orphanage. She’s stumbling along outside and LuisFe drives up in his pick-up. He rushes out to her and hugs her.

Silvana also happens to be in the neighborhood. She’s on the opposite side of the street. She’s finishing up a call to Chonita, trying to find out if anyone’s called or come looking for Diego (‘cuz Chonita wouldn’t recognize Azul if she showed up on the doorstep? If that were the case, I think it would be the first thing Chonita would say to her). Silvana spots the embrace between Azulcena and LF. She shoots daggers in their direction---she’s got to know that she’s totally screwed. END OF EPISODE.

Amar Sin Limites #118, Wednesday 1-9: Only the last ten minutes were worth it

"Momentos decisivos" my foot. That announcer guy is an even bigger liar than Silvana.

We begin with leftovers from last night: Ceci finally gets some…I mean, smooches Mario. And they get a cool song, Camila's "Abrazame." The world's most ridiculous newspaper headline gives the whole fake story about Silvana, Diego, and their alleged baby. Seriously, the guy missed the day in journalism school where they learned the difference between a headline and an opening paragraph. Silvana fakes stomach pains and gets Diego to feel sorry for her. Gloria makes Azul a morning sickness remedy and takes her out for a walk in Guadalajara. I bet Gloria knows a bunch of good hangover cures too.

Diego won't marry Silvana, despite her pressuring him. He says the kid won't have a mom and dad who live together. She tries to make a threat about finding another man to be with her.

LuisFe and Mario have a nice breakfast and talk about how to find Azulcena. Between what Diego and Ceci have said about Silvana, they suspect she knows where Azulcena is. Mario suggests getting Ceci's help and he tells LuisFe that he and Ceci are now an item. LuisFe says that's cool, since he could never love Ceci for wanting Azulcena.

Azulcena babbles to Gloria about not having seen her picture on the news or anything yet. She wants to buy a little TV for the house. Gloria tries to find out if what Silvana said was true; Azul says she both wants to find her family AND hopes she's single so she can be with LuisFe. Silvana calls Gloria and while they're talking on the phone (a bunch of lies, as usual), Azulcena finds the paper with the ridiculously long headline…or the article with the ridiculously large font, whichever. Azulcena feels bad about what's allegedly happening to Silvana with Diego and the alleged baby. Commercials. Gloria and Azulcena return to the house. Azulcena is highly offended at that Diego guy's behavior towards Silvana. She wants to call Silvana and offer her support, but Gloria asks her to wait until they both calm down. Gloria looks really upset.

Ceci and Caty are playing on a trampoline outside. Ceci announces to Caty that she and Mario are now together. Diego comes to collect Caty because Silvana wants to talk to her. After Caty leaves, Ceci says she found out about Silvana's hellspawn…I mean, the baby. She asks what Diego's going to do.

Silvana works on Caty by telling her she'll love her little brother or sister and can see he/she/it whenever she wants to. Caty says if Silvana moves back in, she promises to never get mad at her again. They hug, giving Silvana the opportunity to grin maliciously.

Azulcena and Gloria talk about LuisFe and how great he is. Gloria says you've got to grab onto the good ones and not let them go. Seeing as how there's a man shortage on this show, that's not bad advice…at least, a shortage of the non-stupid, non-tialoving-abuelokilling kind.

Emilia's restricted to sitting at the dining table except for trips to the bathroom. She's hired a maid to help out. Silvana shows up to mope and try to get sympathy. Again. GSD overhears and comes over to clarify that while he doesn't approve, he'd never forbid Emilia from hanging out with her, and he respects her personal life.

Diego and Caty go for a walk. Caty works on Diego, being sad about Silvana maybe going to live somewhere else, or marrying someone else.

Silvana tries to get more sympathy from Diego over the phone. She's playing the martyr. Manuel's in the hotel room. Silvana says she's getting everyone on her side with the pregnancy scam. Silvana thinks she'll get Diego when he realizes she and the baby won't necessarily be around. Manuel thinks that if he talks to Diego about what a bad dad he was, it'll get Diego to come around. And there's something about Silvana giving him more money, but that's par for the course.

Ceci greets Mario with smoochies. He greets her with a rose. Pink--my favorite color! He brought LuisFe with him and they ask to talk to her about Silvana. They explain that Azulcena disappeared and Silvana was the last person to see her and refuses to tell them where Azulcena is.

Gloria and Azulcena call Silvana. Azulcena offers her sympathies. The fact that Silvana fainted that time at the orphanage (as recalled by Azulcena) plays nicely into her whole pregnancy story. Azulcena mentions the story in the paper, but Silvana says it's a lie, they just had a little fight. The music gets a little freaked out as Azulcena says that's great, since the baby should grow up near its father.

Ceci goes over to Silvana's. She says she's not against Diegovana, now that there's a baby involved. She came over to ask about Azulcena as LuisFe and Mario think Silvana knows something. Silvana says it was Azulcena who wanted to leave. She tells her it's LuisFe's baby that Azulcena's having.

The lawyer comes to visit Diego at the boutique. He's got 3 weeks to gather info that Frijolito's not a bad kid. He tells Diego that the accuser is Hector Manuel Moran Aguilera, better known as Bad Daddy. Commercials. Diego recognizes not only the name, but the signature. He goes over to ask Manuel about what happened.

Ceci is shocked about the news of Azulcena's pregnancy. Silvana says it was a scandal because they were carrying on in the orphanage. Per Silvana, it got Azulcena kicked out and she wanted to get away from LuisFe for a while. Now Ceci feels sorry for Azulcena. Silvana feeds her the lie about dropping her off at the bus station. Ceci's a little confused now that Silvana would let her pregnant upset friend who's in such a complicated situation just get on a bus by herself without knowing where she was going. Silvana insists she's telling the truth and if they don't believe her they can find Azulcena themselves. And BTW, MS can back up the story about the sexin' in the nunnery, so there. *sigh* This is so annoying, that people keep thinking that if one thing Silvana says is true, the rest must be true too.

Manuel sticks to his story about being robbed. Diego thinks it must have been on the day Caty said that Frijolito came looking for him. The lawyer thinks this is good news, since Manuel can ask for leniency, seeing as how it's one of those poor orphan children. Ha! I bet Silvana didn't think about that when she planned the whole scam.

Ceci goes to have coffee with Mario and chew him out for not telling her the whole Azulcena story. Since she's upset and keeps cutting Mario off, he never gets to the part where he explains that it's not LuisFe's baby.

Silvana and Manuel are in the hotel room again. Silvana says she thinks she's convinced Ceci that she doesn't know where Azulcena is. Manuel fills Silvana in about Frijolito's case and tells her that Diego's asked him to pardon the kid so they can get him out. Silvana tells him to take his time doing it and not let them notice (as if!). She's not worried because she thinks she's got Frijolito in her pocket with her promise to hurt Azul if he tells.

In juvie, Frijolito asks a friend to ask his uncle to bring old copies of the paper when he visits. Frijolito wants to investigate on his own whether what Silvana said was true.

Lidia's doing well selling the insurance policies, though I can't tell out of where--it doesn't look like Anibal's office and when Mario and Ceci come to visit her, Mario's wearing his lab coat. Lidia says she thinks she's going to be able to get all the money Tavo needs within three weeks and she's not going to see him until then.

3 weeks pass

Tavo's still angry and bitter about Lidia. Lidia gets to the garage just in time to hide and overhear Efrain say that Tavo had it coming with his lies about being broke. Oh, the fur's gonna fly now!

Clemi comments that Diego's not looking so good lately. Diego's worried because Silvana's not around, she's doing her own thing and he hardly knows how she's doing, let alone how the baby's doing. He's concerned it's only going to get worse after the baby is born. Clemi points out that Silvana is young and hot (and completely nuts, she forgot that one) and has a right to have a life and maybe even to marry someone else. That's the part that really gets Diego because then "his" kid will consider someone else "Dad."

Righteous indignation theater! Lidia throws the money in Tavo's face and he still has the gall to ask such a stupid question as "Where'd that come from?" She tells him she earned it to prove her love by saving his garage and now she knows it's all a lie. He starts to pick up the money to give it back to her, but she says he can keep it--as proof that she was never interested in the money. She also throws his engagement ring back at him and leaves, even though most etiquette experts agree that an engagement ring is a gift, and therefore doesn't need to be returned in case of breakup. It's the gesture that counts. Efrain refrains from saying "I told you so."

Frijolito's friend's uncle brought some newspaper clippings, but he saves Frijolito the trouble of reading them and says that Mauricio seems to have been a rat bastard (ok, my words; translating "un infeliz" as "an unhappy person" or "an unfortunate person" just doesn't cut it). He also says it looks like Azul was a nice person and one of Mauricio's victims. Frijolito is happy now.

Ceci cooks (or, as I suspect, has Arnaldo cook and just serves) Mario a dinner to thank him for making her happy the past few weeks. She admits she's afraid to be happy because you never know when your boyfriend's going to turn out to be a tialoving abuelokiller. Mario says there's nothing to worry about, as he doesn't have a tía. Probably I made some of that stuff up. I love the big picture of the muffin in the kitchen. Was that always there?

Lidia cries in front of Clemi and Anibal, but before she can tell them what happened, Tavo comes in and does so. Clemi is now filled with righteous indignation: "Who are you to be testing my daughter that way?!" Tavo says he was insecure and tries to apologize, but Lidia won't take him back. Anibal grabs his arm and shoves him out of the office. That was pretty damn satisfying. The question now is, with so little time left to go before el Gran Final, will Lidia find someone else or take Tavo back? Or will they be progressive enough to just have Lidia sell insurance, get rich on her own, and enjoy the single life?

MS and the lawyer talk. According to the lawyer, Frijolito might just get out of juvie today.

Except that…Frijolito has decided to take matters into his own hands. His plan is to go to Diego, find Azul together, and save her from Silvana and the bad man. He gets his friend to pick a fight so while the guard is otherwise occupied he can sneak out and find Diego. This is obviously not a high-security place.

And in the end, Diego finally caves and asks Silvana to marry him. *gag*

Amar sin Limites Tuesday Jan.8

My DVR was slightly misbehaving so I'm not sure how much I missed in the beginning. We revisit a couple scenes from Monday's episode first then here is the first thing I see:

Diego and MS are discussing Julio and Arni's visit to the nunnery. MS is explaining her decision on turning them away, using the argument that children need both a mother and a father figure. This gets Diego thinking about the child that Silvana is carrying.

Julio and Arni arrive at Emilia and GSD's to cook for them. Emilia is thrilled, GSD too in his own way. They bring a baby outfit with them that they present to Emilia.

Lidia and Mario are at lunch at a restaurant when Tavo comes in. Lidia asks why he is there and Tavo jealously says he came to see who his substitute is. (When did he turn into Silvana's twin?)Lidia is shocked. He insults Lidia until Mario jumps up to defend her honor and Lidia slaps Tavo across the face. Tavo angrily tells Mario that he can have her but watch his checkbook. Lidia looks devastated. (Who would have thought at the beginning that we would be feeling sorry for Lidia by the end of the telenovela?)

Diego and LuisFe are chatting with the MS about Little Bean and getting him out of juvie and how he's a good kid. The topic turns to how much Azulcena helped him. Diego puts his foot in his mouth when he asks "Wasn't she sick in the head?" (which is what Silvana had told him). LuisFe is a bit offended and sets him straight that she had amnesia. Diego apologizes.

Gloria arrives at Azulcena's and asks her if she knows who she is. Azulcena replies "Should I know you?" and Gloria shakes her head and introduces herself as Silvana's mother. They hug and Gloria cries a little behind Azulcena's back. Azulcena is happy to have company.

Lidia and Mario are back in the restaurant. Lidia dumps all her problems with Tavo onto Mario, who tries to comfort and encourage her. This of course involves taking her hands into his over the table. And, of course, who should walk in at that moment but Ceci (and her date?).

Meanwhile Tavo is at Ephrain's moping. Ephrain politely says I told you so. I couldn't tell if Ephrain was saying Tavo should have just married her instead of playing games or is glad that it looks like Tavo won't be marrying her after all. Whichever, Ephrain tells Tavo it's his own fault!

Back at the nunnery, MS, Diego and LuisFe are discussing the importance of family. MS is called away, leaving the two men standing there uncomfortably.

Silvana goes to see the reporter Bruno. She tells him she's gone to see an attorney after Bruno threatened her with the photos of Little Bean's abduction. She brings some papers for him to sign and he does. She looks them over and then she tells him another lie for him to publish. She is pregnant with Diego's child. She even produces the lab results to prove it to him. She sees a public announcement as a way to manipulate Diego into a relationship with her.

Azulcena is serving Gloria lunch. They talk about Azulcena's pregnancy. Gloria wants to know if Azulcena was happy with her boyfriend and her new life. Azulcena says yes, but she had to distance herself from him to see if someone else who loved her might be looking for her.

Diego and LuisFe are chatting in the garden. They talk of how to help the orphans. LuisFe says he can't take any children in because he is not married and he lives with his mother two hours away. Diego says he is not married either. He tells LuisFe that Silvana is pregnant but he doesn't think he can marry her. LuisFe tells Diego that a child needs a stable home (Obviously he doesn't know Silvana). LuisFe mentions that he loves Azulcena and that she is pregnant too. Diego realizes that he insulted the woman LuisFe loved. LuisFe tells Diego that they are in love but Azulcena left and he doesn't know where she went. He mentions that it was Silvana who gave him Azulcena's Dear John letter. Diego has no clue. As they compare notes, LuisFe realizes that Silvana has to know where Azulcena is.

It seems that Ceci has spent her time looking over her shoulder at Mario while her date has been neglected. Another man has joined Lidia and Mario for some business talk. He takes his leave. Ceci's date - I'm not sure where he came from - is very astute and asks Ceci if she'd like to go say hi to her friends. She says oh no, she didn't want to interrupt. He says he can tell she is dying to be at that table and asks if she has an eye on that muchacho. Ceci denies it and swings her hair, just happening to swing it all the way around so that she can again see Mario and Lidia's table. Her date sighs and looks exasperated. Ceci watches Mario and Lidia clasp hands in very friendly thanks for a great business deal.

Julio, Arni, GSD and Emilia are finishing their home cooked gourmet dinner. GSD produces a dessert. Emilia is grateful to all of them for doing so many things to cheer her up.

Lidia and Mario go to leave the restaurant. Lidia stands up to leave and sees Ceci at the table and wants to stop at their table and say hi so as not to be rude. Mario doesn't want to and looks rather guilty to be there. Lidia leads the way with Mario dragging behind. Ceci is trying to hide but to no avail. Lidia greets Ceci happily and Ceci pastes on a smile and returns a cheery greeting. Ceci introduices her date, Jan, a photographer who emphasizes that he does bikini photos. Ceci, only half playfully, tells Mario to be careful, Lidia is a promised woman. Lidia says she was, but Tavo had a jealous breakdown and they are over. Ceci looks uncomfortable.

Diego is chatting with Katy. Katy feels sorry for the orphans. She says they had a good teacher Azulcena, but she left. Katy wants a real family with a mom and a dad and a little sister.

LuisFe confronts Silvana about Azulcena's whereabouts. She still denies knowing but this time LuisFe knows better and calls her a liar. He mentions that he was talking to Diego and Silvana is impactada and scared that he came with LuisFe. Silvana starts spinning lies but LuisFe doesn't believe her. She is shocked that he could not believe her, a pregnant woman! He falls for it.

Gloria is showing Azulcena a picture of her husband Chucho. Gloria mentions that he is a tailor for Diego Moran. She drops his name like she hopes Azulcena recognizes it and looks crestfallen when she doesn't. Azulcena changes the subject to children. Azulcena wonders if she has a mother that loves her and Gloria says no, you don't. (I know Silvana is crazy but did she really think her mother could keep this secret? Is she THAT crazy?) Now Gloria starts spinning to cover that slip. Azulcena tells Gloria that she must be a good mother because of how Silvana turned out. Gloria looks a little sick but likes the idea of acting as a mother figure for Azulcena.

Clemi shows up at Diego's to see if he's decided anything about Silvana. They agree that they both want the best for the baby. Diego dreads the thought of marrying Silvana.

Lidia and Mario are now seated with Ceci and Jan. Lidia is the only one who looks happy about that. She announces that Anibal has arrived for her and leaves the table. Jan then leaves too, leaving Ceci and Mario alone together. Ceci shows a bit of jealousy and Mario eggs her on. She denies that she is jealous and leaves him there. That makes him happy.

GSD and Emilia are admiring the baby clothes that Arni and Julio brought. A doorbell rings and who shows up but Silvana. She sits down with them and goes to tell them the good news. GSD cuts her off and then tells her off. He calls her "fresh as lettuce" to come to them so happy about this when it is not a matter of happiness to them. Silvana tells them that she and Diego are breaking up. She puts on a sad face and hopes they can forgive her and forget everything that has happened. This sets GSD off again. Emilia and Arni calm him but then Silvana opens her mouth again and says more stupid things.

Lidia is home being comforted by her mami while Diego and Anibal are there to support her and say comforting things too. Lidia says she is going to go look for him and she is going to get the money for him to save his shop. Everyone offers to give her the money but she wants to do it all herself.

Mario shows up at Ceci's door, looking contrite. Ceci answers the door, looking angry. But Mario fixes that by grabbing her and planting a big kiss on her. She doesn't seem to resist much. She still won't admit that she was jealous but then relents and admits that she was. Mario reassures her that he was just being nice to Lidia and the only one who interests him is Ceci. They smooch again.

Diego and Katy are having breakfast when Diego gets the morning paper. There is the longest headline ever seen in a newspaper announcing that Silvana is expecting Diego's child. Diego is furious and just then the phone rings. It's Silvana calling to cry that she is so ashamed about the paper, no one will ever hire her again, her career is over. She starts to fake terrible pain and Diego gets worried.

Gloria is bringing breakfast in bed to Azulcena. Azulcena says she's a bit nauseous and Gloria snatches the tray of food away. Gloria has the perfect solution and suggests going for a walk. Azulcena says that Silvana told her not to go out. Gloria talks her into it.

Diego arrives at Silvana's hotel room while Silvana continues to fake an illness. (Okay nothing really indicates that she is faking but who here believes it could be real?) She lays down on her bed, saying she has no strength but her gynocologist says that's normal. Diego gets mad at her, thinking she should be taking better care of herself for the sake of their baby. Diego tells her he thinks she's blackmailing him. Silvana gets angry then turns on the crocodile tears, crying that nobody likes her. Diego thinks she should stay with her mother, who has to love her. Silvana cries and lies, saying her mami left her again. Diego didn't know, looks sorry for her. All this crying has turned the idiot Diego into a bigger idiot and he says she can come back to the house so the baby can be born there. Silvana proudly and defiantly refuses, saying she will only return to his house as his wife... Diego rolls his eyes and looks sick.

Until the next episode...
