Mentir Para Vivir #89 Tue 2/11/14 Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold by a Little Girl Wearing Pony Tails

Diner:  Mariano and Ricky are having high tea as they briefly discuss the Breton marriage dissolution problem.  Ricky is upset that Oriana hasn’t been paying attention to him.  Job’s counselor, aka Mariano suggests that Oriana may not be into Ricky anymore.  Maybe after being with you, she’s turned lesbian.  He also suggests that Oriana may not want to wait ten months or longer for Ricky’s divorce to be final.  They are interrupted by Bereniece.  Ricky asks Bereniece if she has spoken with Rhodalina about visiting her father.  Yes, she did.  She’s shares that Rhodalina has been drawing pictures of a her father, mother, Tito and herself lately.  BUT, if she draws a picture with Paloma in it, the father is not included.  Ricky asks what that mean.  Bereniece doesn’t know, but she is going to discuss it with the shrink.  After the nurse leaves, Mariano is left alone to talk Ricky down from the roof.  They are interrupted by the sight of Joaquina and her clown car hair falling on the sidewalk outside of the restaurant.  They rush out to assist her up and escort her to Mariano’s free clinic so that he can examine her ankle.

Aresti Mansion:  Oriana tells Rhodalina that her father misses her and is very sorry about punting her pooch across the room.  Oriana tells Rhodalina that she will begin seeing her father again because it’s not right for children to hate their parents.  Rhodalina asks why not?  Her parents are both very annoying.  Oriana reminds Rhodalina that Jose Luis taught her to swim at the beach.  He also used to tickle her every night when he came home from work.  Rhodalina says that she will give him a chance.  They agree that they will spend time with him.

Casa de Castro:  Antonio updates Jose Luis on the progress of their criminal enterprise.  Jose Luis is over it.  He is now out of the business.  Antonio wants advice on how to handle Matilde; she’s being a pain.  She has vetoed ten projects and refuses to hire Sebastian.  Apparently she’s pissed at Sebastian for impregnating her daughter and giving her a dose of HIV.  Antonio wants Sebastian by his side because he knows too much about their organization.  Jose Luis advises Antonio to threaten to replace Matilde with Berto’s sister.

While Ricky waits to find out the results of Mariano’s examination of Joaquina’s ankle, he calls and asks Oriana if he can see her tonight.  He also asks about Jose Luis’ visitation rights.  She says that it’s the right thing for her kid to see her father.  Oriana turns down his invitation.  When Oriana gets off of the phone, she tells Paloma that she’s almost certain that she’s knocked up.  Her period is late and she is always on time.  Besides, Ricky is married.  She can't see him anymore because she doesn’t date married men.  Huh?

When Joaquina comes out of the examination room, Mariano asks Ricky to buy her some crutches.  Mariano has also pumped her full of narcotics.  Ricky suggests that Joaquina stay at the Casa Bonita Brothel.  While Ricky drives her over to the brothel, Joaquina checks in with her mother.  Mom is not pleased that she dodged her bodyguard.  At the brothel, Ricky introduces Joaquina to Lucina and leaves.  Lucina asks for her ID and payment.  Felipe comes brings up Joaquina’s luggage and she tips him $50.

After she is settled in, Joaquina calls her mother again.  She tells her mother that she will run away forever if her mother doesn’t allow her investigate her father’s businesses.  She wants to be incognito.  You know, like a regular poor person who hands out $50 tips.  She doesn’t want a bodyguard and she refuses to stay at a high-end hotel.  She will buy a laptop in the morning.  She tells her mother not to tell Uncle Sammy the Bull where she is.

Ricky visits Oriana and Paloma.  Ricky wants to celebrate Paloma’s upcoming birthday.  Oriana tells them that Rhodalina is fine with visiting her father.  Rickilu pretends to be pleased that Rhodalina has quickly accepted her father.

Back at the brothel, Joaquina has made her way out to the patio where Lucina introduces her to Ruben, Manolo and Raquel.  Raquel is very suspicious of Joaquina and wants to know why she is hanging out in the brothel.  She’s carrying a $3,000 suitcase and she’s leaving $50 tips.  Joaquina tells them that she is an unemployed architect from Phoenix, Arizona USA who crossed the border into Mexico looking for a job.  (OK, just let that sink in for a while.  I did not make that up.)  Of course Raquel doesn’t believe it.  Ruben tells her that he is an engineer who works on buildings.  He will send her resume to HR.  Manolo burns rubber over to Homero’s home and informs him that Joaquin’s daughter is in town.

At a bar, Sybilu is hanging out with a hot specimen of manliness named Frederico.  Frederico says that Ricky is gay or crazy for not wanting to have hot steamy psycho bitch sex with Sybilu.  He wants to know why she put up with Ricky for so long.  Divorce him and gets some alimony.  She says that Ricky is a stud in bed and she remembers that he loved boinking her.  Federico says that Ricky may not have enjoyed sex with her as much as she thinks he did.  Federico wants a chance to prove himself in the sack.  She laughs.  Piero spots them.

Homero tries to pimp out his grandson by sending his fine self over to the brothel to meet Joaquina.  He wants Leonardo to invite Joaquina to his art show.  Unbutton your shirt and wear some tight jeans that display our family jewels, he says.  Women like that.  Homero wants him to get to know her and pump her…for information.

At Aresti-Breton, Piero tells Ricky that he saw Sybilu getting drunk at a bar with Frederico, the gigolo.  Piero knows the guy (Frederico) and thinks that they could get her on video tape getting busy.  Ricky says no, because he’s been cheating on Sybilu with Ines and that would make him a hypocrite.  Piero thinks he’s nuts.

Over at the brothel, Dr. Mariano has stopped by to check out Joaquina’s thighs, her legs and oh yeah,  examine caress her ankle.  She is surprised to find out that he was once a priest.  He tells her that he quit the priesthood because he wanted to have lots of sex (hint hint), a wife and some kids.  She says a sexy virgin like him should be able to find some to have lots sex with.  She might know someone who would be willing to help him out and that person might be standing right in front of him.  Joaquina escorts him to the lobby, where Lucina introduces her to Leonardo, the painter, but she’s not impressed.  She prefers to date doctors with earning potential, rather than starving artists.  Leonardo invites her to his art show.  She agrees and asks Mariano to go with her.  He agrees.  She gives Mariano a long kiss on the cheek and they part.

Meanwhile, Piero knocks on Frederico’s hotel room door.  Piero wants to Frederico to make a video tape of him and Sybilu knocking boots.  He will need three copies.  One for Piero’s own personal library, one for Cynderella's research and one for proof that Sybilu is being unfaithful to her unfaithful husband.  Unfortunately, Federico says that he’s not a porn star and doesn’t want his face on film. Fortunately, he will agree to put parts of his body on tape.  Goodness!  That man is beautiful.  Exactly which parts is he going to show?  PaquitaDelBarrio, I humbly volunteer to recap tomorrow’s episode!  You need the rest, honey.  Piero tells Federico to name his price.

Antonio and Matilde have a power struggle.  He tells her that he will hire Lila if she doesn’t approve the projects and hire Sebastian.  Matilde is shocked that Antonio would insult a lady, like her.

At Aresti Mansion, Fedelia tells Paloma that Ruben is trying to hook up with her.  Paloma advises Fedelia to give Sybilu the boot or have Ricky put her in her place.  Fedelia wants to date Ruben, but she’s afraid of Matilde.  Isn’t everyone, asks Paloma.  I don't care about this scene.

Oriana picks up Rhodalina and tells Rhodalina that they are having lunch with Jose Luis.  At first Rhodalina resists.  What if she gets scared?  He’s nuts!  Oriana talks her into it.  Rhodalina agrees, but says that she doesn't have to like it and there will be hell to pay later.  Oriana says that she has the right to express her feelings to her father.  If Rhodalina dislikes her father, say so.

Leonardo has stopped by to visit Fabs, invite her to the art show and ask for her hand in marriage.  She tells him that she is not interested in marrying him because he does not love her.  He feels pity for her.  He insists that he cares about her.  She wants a relationship like Ines and Ricky.  She sees how they look at each other and how Ricky goes into heat every time Oriana comes around.  Leonardo does not act like Ricky; she wants a lap horn dog who begs for sex.  She kisses him goodbye.

Back at the brothel (boy they are getting a lot of action today…pun intended), Felipe tells Raquel and Lucina that a suspicious hood brought a computer to Joaquina.  This makes Raquel even more suspicious of their guest.

At Homero’s, Leonardo tells his grandfather that he was shot down by Fabs.  Homero asks whether or not Leonardo put the moves on Joaquina.  Leonardo reports that she agreed to attend the art show, but she didn't fondle the family jewels.  Homero wants to know if Leonardo told her their surname.  Leonardo didn’t, but he doesn’t know if Lucina did after her left.

At the restaurant, Jose Luis shows up with a camera for his daughter and teaches her how to use it.  He tells her that she can take pictures of Tito with it.

Rickilu calls Paloma and tells her that he’s been stalking Oriana via phone, but she won’t answer it.  Paloma tells him that Oriana and Rhodalina are out on a family date with Jose Luis.  Rickilu admits that he is dying of jealousy.  He didn't expect Rhodalina to agree to see her father so quickly.  At the restaurant, Rhodalina asks her father why he kicked Tito.  He was angry, he says.  What if he becomes angry again?  He promises never to kick her dog again. Rhodalina takes several photos of her surroundings with her brand new camera.  She catches the exact moment when Jose Luis plants a big wet sloppy kiss on the Oriana’s lips.

When Oriana and Rhodalina return home, Rickilu is waiting in the courtyard with Paloma.  Rhodalina, angry that she was forced to endure her father’s presence, hurries over to Rickilu.  She shows him a picture of her mother appearing to suck face with her father.  Rickilu is not pleased and Oriana looks guilty.  Rhodalina’s smiles innocently, but we all know the truth.

Avances!!!!!!!!

Federico is shirtless and HOT!

Thanks for your recap Cynderella. Your willingness to recap tonight's demonstrates your magnanimous nature;)

Maricoocoo is crazy but Piero is proving to be slimy. Yeah he's helping his friend out but it is creepy.

Since the fun, creative writing is over, I fear that Fabi may end up w/Seb. I hope she stays single and finds someone late in life.

So the former Padre is falling for the gangster's daughter. At least that story has some potential. Why do the writers keep on having Ric and Oriana say the same lines/same scene over and over again?! I want them to tell me why Oriana looks like Palomita.

Cynderella, Novia de ???, you were HILARIOUS and boy did I need some humor after the sorry state of affairs with your man Jeeves (Alejandro) over at "Robo".

I don't know what happened to this TN, but Lucina and my Tito El Bambino will be the only ones I will be missing.

Fatima

Awesome job, Cynderella!
I don't know how you come up with half the stuff that you do, but I couldn't enjoy it more!

Another snarktastic recap. Thanks Cyn. I love that we have both your and Adriana's recaps of this episode.

It was nice to see Mariano finally getting some action. Not as great as my former priest/former prostitute pairing, but the daughter and heir of an international crime boss will do.

Cynderella,

Thank you. Great title. I did think that Alina came around pretty darn fast with the gift of a camera.

I really enjoyed Mariano with Jacqui. What an interesting couple, as Vivi said! She's a breath of fresh air, whatever her failings as an incognito guest at Lucina and Raquel's hotel.

The last two episodes, since the adoption/witness protection confusion has been left behind, were actually coherent. The Oriana/Ricardo silliness is still too much, as is dear Paloma so much of the time, but at least it's making a little more sense.
Hope springs eternal.

Maybe I'm heartless, but I don't see the rush for Leo and Fabi to be madly in love and ready to walk down the aisle. I think he proposed because he felt pressured by both Fabi and Homero to show that he's serious about Fabi. But to me, has has shown that he's serious about her- he's not dating anyone else, and he didn't run screaming from the room when he learned she was pregnant and then had HIV. They both should take their time getting to know each other-- doing things like making sure the other person isn't living under a false name and smuggling gold for the mob, for example. Waiting a couple of years before leaping into marriage is a good thing, and the lesson Fabi should have learned from observing her parents, and even Rick and Ori.

Vivi, ITA w/your assessment of Fabi and Leo.

I don't think you are heartless, Vivi in DC. I do think Fabi is learning, though. Agree with your points.

Traveling Lady, to think that all it took was a camera for Rhodalina Penmark to forgive her father for leaving Tito for dead. JL wanted that little dog dead, but that camera just worked its miraculous magic. Add me to the list of amazed people.

Brother.

Fatima

Organs has been selling JL as a good man to Alina. I can see her liking the peace pipe. He also said that she could take pictures of Tito.

Thanks Cynderella, your recaps are always a treat. Do you think that Jaqui is a real architect or did she lie about it? It would be funny if she made it up like George Castanza did calling himself Art Vandelay, and then having Ruben wanting to have his company hire her.

Fatima, not sure if you have children or not, but most kids are pretty easy to buy off. But as for how easy it is to buy off Raquel, a grownup, that's just slimy.

Oriana did not have any choice in JL's visitation, so she had to say things to get Alina over her fear of being around him. What good would it do if she validated her fears and then threw her in with the shark, so to speak. As long as Oriana can be present, she can control a certain amount of what happens between them and be there in case something negative does happen.

So Jaqui is the red head we saw Mariano kissing in the bumpers. And the coincidence of Marilooney hooking up with a guy who is ok with being video taped is a bit farfetched.

Well, we didn't see Alina actually hugging and kissing JL, so I'm not sure she's totally over it. But she liked the camera and didn't run screaming from the table like she has recently when she's seen JL. That's a good first step. It really wasn't good for her to be so terrified of her father. A healthy dose of skepticsm about him, however, is perfectly ok.

I wonder if they have some lonely intern writing the Oriana/Ricardo scenes because they make no sense. She leaves...she comes back...they declare their love... get into bed together...JL comes back into their lives for a second...Oriana remembers she has a husband and says no to Ricardo again until she comes back from another secret mission.

The Mariano/Jackie plot along with the international criminal business seems to be the most exciting thing right now.

I think Alina would still be traumatized, getting moved around so much from horrible family members to horrible psychologist and everyone telling her her dad is fine after telling her he was mean.

Karen said it all right, Piero is behaving like a perv, getting Marilu's "lover" to film them after saying Fabiola to should kiss the ground he walks on because he'll take her "as in."

Either everyone on this show was secretly crazy and their taking off their masks or there is some shift out of character happening right now.

I don't think that she's an architect. The way her mother acts she and her siblings are barely legal.

Thanks Cyn, as usual your humorous take on this craziness is awesome.
I usually can take or leave the child actors but for me, Alina has been the star of the show. I wouldn’t mind seeing her in something else.
After the scene with Marilu’s fall and ankle injury, it wasn't very original to use the same fall tactic with Joaquina.

Too bad Joaquina got busted so soon after arrival. That flaming red hair would’ve been great for incognito undercover work. NOT!

Jackie is 27. Homero said it when he read her file. But her siblings are minors.

Cynderella - Thanks. My favorites:

"Job’s counselor"

"...three copies. One for Piero’s own personal library, one for Cynderella's research and one for proof that Sybilu is being unfaithful to her unfaithful husband."

I too am okay with Alina warming up to her dad. Before the Tito punt, Alina had mostly only good times with her dad. I would hate to see JL turn malo in her presence again though, cause she'd surely have trust issues forever - punto.

I like that Matilda is not a "yes" woman as (fake) president. Contrast her with Raquel, who would've okay'ed anything they said. Maybe Matilda is on the road to redemption, though hopefully not back with Ruben.

Reality, are you still watching?

I agree with Foxy that the little actress who plays Alina is excellent. The psychological dimensions of her nomadic existence and relationship to JL are not consistently realistic, but she plays it all very well. I think that the adults generally play against her very well, too.

For me, the problem is the story losing track of itself and the immature dialogue and characterizations of Oriana and Ricardo. But I am in it for the long haul and look forward to a few sparks here and there as the stories resolve themselves over the next ten days.

Thanks for another hilarious, guns-ablazin' Cynderella recap.

My favorite (of many excellent) line:

"She wants to be incognito. You know, like a regular poor person who hands out $50 tips."

Heh heh.

The way both Raquel and Lucina eyed up Yaqui cracked me up.

My favorite development is Matilde taking her job seriously. Wouldn't it be great if she's the key to bringing JL down?

My least favorite development is Piero's video plan. Wasn't he already creepy enough?

So I guess that JL really isn't getting out of the business of bad, just striking out on his own.

Carlos

Thanks for you kind comments everyone. I can't wait for Frederico. Hopefully, Paquito will describe every part of him. He is a honey pie!
