La Fea Más Bella #207 2/9/07 Ten minutes in the life of Conceptos

Imagine the 10 most eventful minutes of your life.
Now sift together a few other peoples' most eventful ten minutes, plus 20 minutes of your favorite Super Bowl-quality commercials.
I bet that would make for a riveting hour of television.
Alas, this was not that hour.

Just the ladies

The cuartel and Lety are still talking in Lety's office (we don't often get a good look at this part of Presidencia). Lety hints that she has someone in mind for PM's old job and will tell them more later. Sara asks where Alicia will be sitting. Lety looks uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, Marcia gives Alicia the bad news about the new seating arrangements. She'll be sitting next to Martha. Alicia whines and says "you should have let them fire me." Alicia gets hysterical and complains about having to sit among the rabble - bitter Lola, the constipated giraffe, next to Martha's hiding place. She sobs heartily, with dry, invisible tears and blubbers that it's degrading.

Marcia explains that Alicia will be her secretary. This doesn't cheer Alicia up at all. It's like a demotion, going from "secretary of the president" to "secretary of the production executive." Marcia reminds her that she probably wouldn't last very long as Lety's secretary before getting fired anyway. But, she says, if Alicia really finds this so insulting, she can please hand in her resignation. Alicia backpedals a bit and asks if her title could be changed to assistant. She could get a raise and be allowed to boss the rabble. Marcia impatiently nixes this suggestion and tells Alicia she's her secretary, and that's the end of it.

Alicia inquires as to the cuartel's fate. She is outraged that they weren't fired (and in some cases given better jobs). Marcia mentions that they'll be losing a day's pay. Alicia thinks that's the least they deserve. Then Marcia says Alicia's pay is getting docked too. Alicia asks why is Marcia doing this to her, and doesn't Marcia know what this will mean? Marcia says yes, you'll have to catch the early bus so you aren't late again.

Yazmin has been watching all of this in the background while sucking on what looks like a red Blow-Pop or Tootsie-Pop. (When I was a kid, I was told by a friend to check my Tootsie-Pop wrappers for an Indian with a bow and arrow aiming at a star. I was supposed to pierce the star with my lollipop stick and if I could do that without breaking any area outside the star, I'd get a wish. I managed to do this once or twice, but apparently, the love of Shaun Cassidy was too much to wish for.) Yazmin looks like she lost a fight with the clearance rack: orange hot pants and top, with matching handbag; blue denim vest; and cheap-looking gold belt. After Marcia leaves, Yazmin asks Alicia if she can see Lety yet. Alicia slowly turns to Yazmin with a venomous look, perhaps realizing that Yazmin might be the only person she can still safely pick on. Alicia says she doesn't know, and tells Yazmin to go away.

Back in Lety's office, Irma thanks Lety for her fairness and protection. Lety says that's what friends do. They cheer that they're united. Lety asks Lola to stay behind for a talk. The whole cuartel (except Irma) sits down. Irma says no, just Lola. They grumble, but get up to go back to work.

Lola pre-emptively whines. "It never ends. What now?" (Wow, why so negative? She just narrowly avoided getting fired!) Lety says there's a problem with Luigi - a problem Lola knows well. Yazmin! Lola thinks she's worse than a problem - she's a plague, a curse. Lety explains that Luigi is being contrary, like always. He said he'd quit if she didn't hire Yazmin. Lety figures he is just doing this to try her patience and start a fight, but she wanted to talk it over with Lola first. Lola says she understands. Lety says if Lola really can't stand to have Yazmin around, she'll try to find another way to work things out with Luigi, but... Lola interrupts and says it's fine. She can't wait to see the look on that homewrecker's face when Sanchez (Lola's lawyer) wins Lola a big alimony settlement from El Cheque.

Lety says she's glad that Lola feels that way. She'll hire Yazmin, but she assures Lola it won't be exactly what Luigi had in mind. He's going to flip out. Lola and Lety laugh.

Comedy teams of the 20th century

Aldo tells Fern, Omar, and Luigi that his pal Guillermo has lots of contacts in the food business who are interested in advertising their products as part of the gourmet tourism campaign. Fernando is skeptical and pessimistic. Aldo says they're just planting a seed (Fern makes a face), and it'll take time for it to flower. Luigi agrees. Fern ridicules Luigi and says something about watering the seeds and little birds making their nests.

I know we already decided that Fern, Omar, and Tomas are the Three Stooges. However, Fern, Omar, and Luigi can be the Three Stooges too, if Luigi is Shemp. If you add Aldo, that's four people. So then they're the Marx Brothers. And next time we see Omar, Fern, Tomas, Luigi, Aldo, and Lopez all in one place, we'll have Monty Python.)

Guillermo calls. He's met with the restauranteurs, and they've agreed to invest $2 million (that's dollars, not pesos) in the project. Meanwhile, the Three Stooges (Shemp edition) talk. Well, Fern talks. He tells them that this Andreu (Guillermo) guy isn't going to solve anything. What they need for this project is money, and lots of it. Not just lunch money. Omar agrees with Fern. Fern tells them not to be fooled by Aldo's smile. He's just trying to throw them off balance.

Luigi looks like he wants to tell Fern off, but Aldo wraps up the call and the Three Stooges (Shemp edition) move forward to hear the outcome. Aldo reminds them about the seeds. (And the nesting birds, Fern flippantly reminds him.) Aldo says the seeds have flowered sooner than expected. $2 million worth of flowers for this project. Luigi wants to know where the money is coming from. Aldo says it's from the restauranteurs' association, of course!

Fern says he doesn't trust this Andreú ("accent on the U," he asides to Omar). Where is he getting this $2 million?

Aldo asks, do you distrust him because you don't know him? Or because he's my friend?

Fern defensively gives some explanation that I don't totally get (and suspect is nonsense) about how knowing someone is the same as being their friend, or somesuch. Like Omar, for example. Aldo says it's good for each of us to get to know every person we can meet in our lives. Since they're face-to-face, why not do that now? Fern says why bother, it's only temporary. Aldo says that doesn't matter. He thinks they should talk a bit about who they are and share their Deep Thoughts. Fern says he's already said what he thinks. Aldo says (directing this comment at Luigi and Omar, who are listening with interest) that it'd be better if they could speak private.

Fern asks why he wants to do it in private. Aldo says it's so they can speak calmly, get to know each other, and so Aldo can get Fern's support, since he has so very much experience...

Fern smiles, flattered. Luigi and Omar look a little worried by this seemingly successful appeal to Fern's vanity.

"...as an ex," Aldo finishes. The smile quickly disappears from Fern's face. "As ex-president of Conceptos," Aldo adds. (Luigi and Omar exchange puzzled looks.) Fern lets out a sigh of relief and agrees to the chat. He tells Omar and Luigi ("muchachos y muchachas") to leave them alone. Luigi says he can't leave Aldo alone with Fern - he doesn't know what a savage he is. Aldo says that's exactly why he needs to get to know him. Luigi tells him to scream for help if he ever feels that he's in danger. He and Omar leave Fern and Aldo alone in the office. Aldo stares Fern down with a confident smile as Fern fidgets uncomfortably.

Fern tells Aldo his life's story, or at least the part that would appear on a resume, about his schooling in communications, publicity, marketing, and cinematography in Barcelona, after which he came to this company and began his professional life. Aldo flatters him and says it's very impressive, but he isn't satisfied. Those aren't the Deep Thoughts he was looking for. Fern says caray, go ahead and ask him something - whatever he wants. Aldo wants to know why Fern distrusts him and his friend Guillermo. "Do you think we're liars? That we're traitors? That we use people for our personal convenience?" Fern's mouth hangs open, then he glibly denies this. He paces nervously and sits behind Aldo's desk (he's not used to sitting on the other side of a desk yet). He says he just thinks it's suspicious that they were able to come up with $2 million practically overnight. Caray, that's a lot of money!

Aldo says there's a great saying that when people are hungry, they think about bread. In other words, maybe Fern is suspicious because he's thinking about fraud himself. Fern chokes self-consciously and mutters "Carvajal." He says no, but he's not so naive as to be easily fooled or surprised.

Aldo then calmly changes the subject. He asks what is the most important thing to him? "What kind of question is that?," Fern asks. "One that hasn't been answered," Aldo responds. Fern says he has an answer, but wants to hear Aldo's answer first, since there are so many questions on his side. "Love," Aldo replies simply. "For me too," Fern says. "Love is the most important thing." "Really?" Aldo asks. He's still smiling, but he looks skeptical.

"Do you doubt me?" Fern asks. "Yes," Aldo replies. "Well, you're wrong," Fern says sincerely. It wasn't before, but it is now. Love is first, it's the most important thing, but the problem is, his love is not being returned.

Aldo says he believes Fern now and he knows he's in front of a decent human being. "Thanks, but, we still don't know each other so well yet," Fern says. Aldo says it's a great start and suggests they get back to work.

Back in the exec lobby

The cuartel and Yazmin wait for Lety to finish talking with Lola. PM worries that it's taking a long time. Martha says she's lost her appetite, because she's sure that desk next to hers is going to be the airhead's. Sara wonders who will become the new receptionist. Juana hopes it will be someone new.

Lopez comes by and asks about the big boxes on the floor. Martha says they're Omar's things, he wants to have them stored someplace but they can't (for some reason) keep them in the warehouse. Martha asks Lopez where he thinks they should go. He doesn't want to make a decision but tells Martha he doesn't want to see them there any more.

Yazmin greets Lopez. "At your service, baby," he answers. Yazmin asks for Lety. Lopez promises that Lety will see her immediately. Just then, Lola comes out of Lety's office and sends Yazmin in for Lety. Lola gently pushes Lopez aside. Yazmin greets her courteously and Lola tells her that Lety needs to talk to her. Yazmin excuses herself to Lopez and caresses his cheek. (Ew!) After she leaves, Lola laughingly tells the cuartel they don't know what's in store for that homewrecker.

Lopez tells Martha to call Saimon and have him pack up Fern's things, and to call the IT guy and have him move Fern's old computer and set up Lety's new computer. (I guess they have to talk about something.)

Tomas comes in clutching his stomach. He starts to explain himself to Lopez, but Lopez walks away while he's in the middle of a sentence. Tomas tells Lola he's feeling awful. Lola asks if she should call a doctor. He says no, call a restaurant. He needs a transfusion of tacos, quesadillas, etc. and a liter of juice. He tells Lola he's going to need that every day. He staggers back to his office. "It never ends, it never ends," Lola frets. Martha says he eats more than her, and wonders how he can still be so skinny.

In Lety's office, Yazmin congratulates Lety on her new job. Lety tells Yazmin she's hired, and she'll be paid what she's owed. Yazmin says she deserves it, and Luigi needs her. Lety says she won't be working for Luigi - she'll be working in reception. Yazmin is impactada. She blames Lola. Lety says nobody tells her what to do, she's the president and she makes the decisions. She says that just now, she was telling that to Lola. (Actually, what she said to Lola was "if you can't stand to have Yazmin around, I'll try to find another way to work things out with Luigi." Hmmm.)

Yazmin whines that it isn't fair. She's a model and dancer, but instead of helping her reach the stage, they cut her down. Lety says Yazmin doesn't have to take the job - surely there are many others who would want it. Yazmin wipes away the tears, smiles, and says okay, she'll take the job. Lety says she's glad and says "please don't cry at me." She asks if Yazmin is only taking the job to annoy Lola. Yazmin says no, she's never done anything to Lola. Lety warns her not to cause problems. Yazmin claims to be quite the pacifist, and says it's just that Lola won't forgive her because her Flaquito prefers her. Yazmin adds that it's very unfair.

"What's unfair is that you call him 'flaquito' (skinny)," Lety says. Yazmin says that Lety can't imagine all that she's suffered in her life. Lety decides to end this dumb conversation and advises Yazmin to leave Lola alone.

Saimon comes in speaking Greek, or perhaps pseudo-Greek, along with the IT guy. Saimon is glad to see Yazmin. The two of them flirt, and Saimon tells her that he's single. Yazmin says they're going to be seeing more of each other because she'll be working in reception. "Really?" Saimon says in English. Lety yells at Yazmin and glares at her.

Outside, the cuartel are processing the news that Lola has just given them. PM is upset that Yazmin is taking her old job. Yazmin comes out, and PM warns her to stay away from Saimon. Yazmin says Saimon told her he's single.

Now just the boys again

The Marx Brothers reunite. Aldo says they should go to the restauranteurs' association so they can meet Guillermo Andreú. Fern thinks they should meet at Conceptos instead. Omar reminds Fern that this project is Guillermo's idea and he's putting up the money. Fern scolds Omar. Doesn't he understand anything? Of course they'll be meeting with GA at the restauranteurs' association, Fern says.

Lopez interrupts to tell Fern that Lety wants him to get his stuff out of her office. Fern says he already knows that he has to move his stuff out and he's in a meeting. Lopez excuses himself and leaves.

Omar wants them to meet with Guillermo. Aldo says he will arrange it, but there's something else they need to consider. Fern disagrees. Aldo asks what Fern's disagreeing with. Omar tells Fern that Aldo hasn't said anything yet. Fern tells Omar he knows that, and would Omar please not interrupt. Aldo asks what's the point. (Apparently, it's a rhetorical question.) He says their objective is to promote gastronomical tourism for Mexico, so they need to explore the different ways to promote it overseas. Fern suggests going to the bank of international business. (I'm not sure exactly what that is, but I get the impression that it's like if you were talking about getting some footwear and then some genius said "I know - let's go to the shoe store!")

Abbot & Costello (Fern and Omar) talk in the hallway outside Aldo's office. "I don't like him," Fern complains. "As much as I want to like him, I can't. He rubs me the wrong way." Omar asks if that's why Fern was saying such goofy, contrary things in front of Aldo and being naughty. Fern says he was being impressive and eloquent. Omar misunderstands and asks, "who did he tell?" (Elocuente sounds like el lo cuente.)

Omar says it sounded like he was jealous. He wants to know what Fern and Aldo talked about when they were alone. Fern says the project, of course. Fern admits Aldo is smart and says they need to be careful around him. Omar says "so you mean he's a good rival for you." Ha! They leave, and Yazmin appears in the hallway outside Aldo's office, looking for Luigi.

In Lety's office

Lety is looking at a photo of Marcia and drawing a cartoonish picture of a very angry-looking woman. Saimon annoys Lety as he packs Fern's things. The IT guy is disassembling Fern's wicked cool Mac and asking Saimon about the breakup with PM. Saimon very wordily confirms that they've split up and tells the IT guy not to be so sad. Lety gets Saimon's attention and he and the IT guy explain why they are there. "Thanks, you can have it, it's all yours," Lety says.

Lety has added the label "Marcia" over her cartoon. (Great, that's just what we need, more ugliness on paper for people to find and get angry about.) Saimon packs the golden lion award from Cannes into the box. She gives him the photo to pack away as well. He complains about the room seeming too vacant and her walls being too plain. He's distracted and packs her purse (with the diary in it).

The IT guy asks Saimon for more details about the breakup with PM, but Saimon doesn't want to talk about it. He changes the subject and says the movie Titanic made him cry. The IT guy says it was very sad. Lety says she cried too. (She takes her purse back.) Saimon says he felt the same way when he found out that Fern and Marcia had split up. (Lety rolls her eyes slightly.) The IT guy says he was happy when they got back together.

This reminds Lety of something. She gives Saimon the bag of Fern's gifts, etc. She tells Saimon it's pure trash and Fern can do whatever he wants with it. Saimon keeps calling her "Licenciada" and she tells him she's still "Lety." He doesn't want to call her that, he's just a lowly messenger and he's grateful that she's let him keep his job.

Zoological oddities

Luigi and Aldo talk. I finally get a good look at Aldo's shirt - yes, it looks like it's been tie-dyed... poorly. Aldo talks about Fern's character. He seems like a decent guy. He may be treacherous at times, but he has something special. "Something special? Special how? Like me?" Luigi asks. Aldo ignores the question and continues with his Deep Thoughts. Even though Fern's wrong, he repents; he's a noble man, and very likeable. (I'm not sure how much of this I got right.)

Luigi says Aldo is like his grandmother; he sees everyone's good side, even the devil's. Aldo says Fern isn't the devil - he's human, with a bright side and a dark or hidden side. Luigi says whatever, he just hopes Fern leaves them alone to work in peace.

Just then, Yazmin bursts in, like a one-woman Lenny and Squiggy. She apologizes to Aldo, but Luigi yells "knock-knock" at her impatiently and doesn't introduce her. She tells Luigi they wouldn't hire her as his model. Luigi wants to know who "they" is. He guesses it's "the platypus," but is met with a reproachful look from Aldo. "Oh, all right," Luigi says. Outraged, he leaves to yell at Lety. Yazmin wiggles her fingers goodbye at Aldo.

Aldo tells himself it's a zoo. He goes to the lobby to look for Lety. Alicia is morosely packing up her things at her desk. Aldo asks her if she's feeling well. She says she's okay, but Sara explains the situation. Alibubi pretends to be friendly to the cuartel and denies that she's upset.

Abbot and Costello go to their office. Omar says that of everyone they've dealt with today, Lety was the one who impressed him the most. He thinks she's making a strong start.

The two of them are standing in front of the door. Omar looks at the desk and the nice comfy chair behind it. Fern awkwardly repeats what Omar just said, and they both try to hide goofy grins. (My guess: either Omar accidentally said Fern's line, or said it too early, or else they're both laughing in anticipation of what they're about to do.) They both dash toward the desk; Omar runs around it but Fern hurls himself over it! (I'm pretty sure that's not a Miró on the wall after all.) Fern seems to hurt himself, but he wins the big chair. He tells Omar he knows it's his office, but he's pulling rank, ex-rank, and thinks he should get to sit there. "And break your snout too, huh?" Omar says.

Fern says again that Lety is off to a strong start. It's a good idea and he will support it. Omar starts to say something about Marcia, when Marcia pops in and says "Hello." (So now we have TWO one-woman Lenny and Squiggy acts.) Fern and Omar stand up and Fern says they're about to go to the bank of international business. (This is a brilliant strategy on Fern's part. All he has to do is keep making excuses to get away from Marcia, and eventually she'll forget they ever had a relationship, right?) Omar begins to explain that Aldo suggested -

"It was my idea," Fern interrupts. He says it was his suggestion, basically his, to become acquainted with the different ways of promoting tourism to Mexico. (Hmm... doesn't Mexico already have a tourism commission?) Saimon comes in with Fern's stuff. Marcia sees the trash bag and demands to know what that's doing there. Saimon gives a long-winded explanation that boils down to, "Lety told me to move Fern's things and she said he'd know what to do with the bag." Marcia says she knows what's in the bag, but she doesn't know why he's still keeping it like it's a treasure. (A treasure? Do you keep your treasures in a trash bag?) Omar looks uncomfortable. Fern says what treasure? If she is referring to the bag she left in his office, then she's the one who left it there.

Pointing, she complains about his rumpled appearance. I don't see anything, but he brushes something off of his jacket and explains that he was marking his territory - it's a macho thing. He tells Saimon to throw the bag in the trash. Saimon asks for a trashcan. The IT guy, who's been pretty much doing nothing, helpfully finds the very small wastebasket under the desk. Saimon tries to stuff the bag into it and then Fern puts the wastebasket under his desk. He asks if she's satisfied. She says no, she's been thinking about it and she can't accept that Lety is getting to have the last word on this project. Marcia thinks they should all have to agree.

Meanwhile, Luigi and Yazmin complain to Lety. They argue over whether or not Lety kept her word. Lety said she agreed during the meeting that they need Yazmin at the company, and now here she is, at the company. "Are you making fun of me?" Luigi asks. Lety says no, she's kept her word, she's hired Yazmin back to Conceptos. She reminds Yazmin that she sat right there in front of her and said she'd take the job in reception. Yazmin confirms this reluctantly. "Wait - you agreed to come back under those conditions?" Luigi asks her. Yazmin says yes. He scolds her for wasting his valuable time and stomps out. Lety accuses Yazmin of trying to go over her head with Luigi. She says the only thing Yazmin accomplished was to show Lety what a cheat she is. Next time she does something like that, she'll be out of a job. Yazmin promises she'll behave herself, thanks Lety, and leaves. Lety tells herself she doesn't believe it.

The IT guy begins unpacking Fern's computer (actually, he's only opening the box) and listens to Fern and Marcia argue about the project. She thinks it's too ambitious. Fern tells her about the $2 million investment. This impresses the IT guy as well as Marcia. Fern says he thinks the project isn't really what's bothering her. She expresses annoyance that Lety has so many fans. Fern reminds her that they need this opportunity to pay their debts, and they all will have to work at it. Marcia sarcastically asks who is she to question these things.

Fern says they (he and Omar) are going to eat and then they're going to the bank of international business. He asks the IT guy if it's going to take him all morning to set up his computer. He and Omar leave for lunch. Marcia takes another look at the trash bag, slaps her photo at Saimon and leaves in disgust.

The IT guy says "don't tell me they're fighting again." Saimon comforts the IT guy like a little boy.

Fern and Omar see Alicia, Aldo, and Luigi talking in the lobby. Fern complains that Aldo is always, always looking for Lety. He and Omar leave for lunch. Luigi whines about the feas and invites Aldo to lunch. Alicia thinks this is a great idea and invites herself. Aldo begs off and Luigi stomps off in a huff. Alibubi starts flirting with Aldo, touching his shoulder and asking him to console her. The cuartel praises Aldo for his patience. Alicia sweetly thanks them for being such good friends and tells them she's having a conversation with Aldo. He says he's moved by the way Alicia suffers for her work. (She doesn't realize he's making fun of her.) They praise him some more as he goes to see Lety.

Alicia tells the cuartel she could see how much Aldo wanted her. They make fun of her some more and point out that he left her to see Lety. Martha says that he has good taste. (Alicia thinks Martha's referring to her, of course, not Lety.) Alicia says she likes everything about him, and she's sure he likes everything about her too. She also says something about the bus that I don't get.

Lety is glad to see Aldo and says she's working on the project. He asks if that's the only reason she's glad to see him - to talk about work? She says no, but she's nervous about "all of this." He gives her the good news about the $2 million.

Next week
Tomas dances, meets Yazmin, and gets slapped by Alicia, in some order.
Also, if I heard correctly, it's going to be a two-hour episode on Monday, starting at the usual time. Check your local listings to be sure. I don't know if this means there won't be a Mundo that night.

Thanks so much Julie! I always enjoy your sense of humor!
I agree with the Stooges title and etc.
Marcia more and more reminds me of Hera (with the glowing eyes) in the old Hercules TV show. She is always in such a fowl mood and ready to rip someones head off.
Fern acts too often like a scared little rabbit around her.
I enjoy all the play between Fern and Omar. They are a great comedy duo.
I'm really tired of Aldo's super analyzing everyone he meets. What's wrong with just a friendly conversation? He doesn't have to be everyone's psychiatrist.

Thanks to Jeanne for all the word clarifications! It sounds like a simple thing but it's so nice to know what the repeated expressions mean!

Julie,
As always, thanks for the recap - your commentaries are always good for a laugh! (better than the show, seriously) It's kinda like the novela version of MST3K:) good work. I've stopped officially watching (and recording) LFMB since Acapulco (and have been spoiling with the mexico version), but I'm sad I missed the leaping over the desk bit. I've only seen clips of it, but it's pretty awesomely hilarious. :) I do like when the actors break character and do something goofy. Hi-Five! y muchas grax...

Thanks for the terrific recap Julie. Your sense of humor is always appreciated. I loved the comedy team labels you assigned to the different character groupings.

Just one comment (I know a rare thing for me), but did I see Fernando pat the IT guy on the butt? I could have sworn that's what I saw, but wasn't taping the episode, so I couldn't rewind and rewatch. Did anyone else see this?

Julie excellent recap. Thank you for spending part of your weekend doing this for us. The mere thought of hving to wait till monday to read the parts I didn't understand, while watching the Program (minimal knowledge of spanish)would have been unbearable; however, it seems that the main highlight was fern and omar with their clowning around rotf. I can't stand Aldo's psychiatric attitude either. He seems to specialize in wondering what is behind everything a person says, instead of just enjoying them. I don't like him with Lety either. This relationship definitely takes away from from the romance of fern and lety, which was sooo pure. Even if she needs to know other man like her and even if fern needs the compeititon in order to appreciate her more in the end or to "pay the piper", before he can have her back (paybacks). Lety having a ronantic involvement with Aldo, takes away from what fern and lety had. Does anyone else agree. I think if Lety and Aldo were just good friends, it would have been ok, but I think it is going to be more than that for awhile and she gazes in his eyes like she did Fernando. That is not good.

Oh, Julie, you have outdone yourself! (¿Es posible hacerlo, verdad? ;-) ) I was roaring in our sitting/television room upstairs and could hear hubby mumbling to himself as I laughed out loud while I read the recap. That's his way of telling me he's annoyed that I am having so much fun with this. Earlier today he told me I am well and truly addicted to the recaps and the telenovela. In that order. You did a terrific job--THANKS!

I loved your intro. It really said it all.

Before I forget it....toward the end, when Marcia was annoyed with Fern's stuff in Omar's office, and she slapped her picture up into Saimon's gut, she turned and stalked out. This is such trivia, but...¿sabes qué? She had a high back slit in her skirt and the band on her knee-high nylons showed! I rolled on the floor because Marcia always looks like she thinks she's a fashion plate. Wearing knee-high nylons with a high back slit doesn't look like fashion plate material, it just looks tacky and tasteless.

;-)

I love the references to the 3 Stooges and Shemp, and the Marx Bros., Monty Python. Of course, many of us here on this blog remember them all well......Fern and Omar are definitely Abbott and Costello, and Laurel and Hardy sometimes.

When Fern leaped over the desk, it looked a little like he really did hurt himself (wrist) and didn't expect to, but kept on acting. Omar just looked a little stunned. Was that terrific acting or was that not as scripted as it could have been--improv? Then Omar looked like he wanted to laugh....what an amazing piece of slapstick.

I am loving how Aldo, in his gracious, charming and delightful way, confronts all and sundry at Conceptos. "What is it you don't like about $2 million? Is it because he is my friend? He is a master of gently forcing them, one by one, to back the heck down. (I still love Fern, though). I am glad Aldo is recognizing him as a good man, honorable. It won't make Aldo leave the playing field so Fern has Lety to himself, though, will it, mis amigos?

I love how Lety is managing people one by one, too. This is a new day for her. I, for one, welcome it! Girl power!

Well, I could write all night but Julie already took care of the hard lifting, and others have to have a turn as well.

;=)

Jeanne (not really a moustache, that--and please forgive my warped sense of humor)

The scene with Fernando launching himself over Omar's desk to take possession of it was one of the most amazing action moves I've seen in a "normal" TV show. It looked like he actually hurt himself, but he kept on going with the scene anyway, no doubt thinking he didn't want to have to do it over! You could tell that the adrenaline was really flowing in both Fern and Omar as they settled down to rehash. It was just an awesome bit.

I think Zorro is starting on Telemundo on Monday in the hour after La Fea. If La Fea does really go for 2 hours on Monday, I wonder if it's to draw attention away from Zorro? Dara B

See I am having a problem with the whole space/time continuem...this day stretches out like it is being sucked thru a black-hole...If my day at work lasted this long & trust me I am working no harder than the slackers at Concepts...they's find me dangling from the ceiling & my shoes would be on the floor with no laces....

Ah BECKY I was dragging my butt out of bed after a late-night gig (and now an early morning rehearsal) and blearily turned on my computer and this comment of yours just killed me. When I found you at telenovela-world - well - I feel like the pig that dug up the biggest damn truffle...

I have decided to cut back on my viewing of this show because it is moving too slowly and because of Aldo. I cannot stand the man. Can't stand how they have all the women at Conceptos worshipping him, can't stand him flashing his "chiclet teeth" smile
(I got that term from someone here, I forget who said it, but it’s too funny and true.), can’t stand Lety thinking she needs him or his advice.
I am also annoyed by his need to analyze and be deep with everybody. He has been a bag of hot air from day one.
Beckster-you got that right about this ridiculously long day at Conceptos. I was disappointed to see them all in the same clothes in the preview.
And this recap talks about going to lunch………does this mean we are only half-way thru the day, or do they have lunch at 3 in the afternoon in Mexico?
Either way, the day needs to end so we can see these people in some different clothes.
The only ones who are dressed nice are Fern, Omar and Tomas. As for the one I love to hate, he needs to take off the leather jacket while he is inside, it is not a suit or sport jacket. Plus, it is ugly and when I look at it I try to see which has more creases, his jacket or his face. Well, enough ranting about that useless character! I’ll just tape this show no more than 3 times a week and fast forward thru any Aldo scenes, unless Fern is in them.
And I will still read these excellent recaps! Love the added bits of humor!

i kinda see why Aldo would want to analyze this zoo of people. Lets not forget that lety had aready told him about her experience with the zoo people, so he kinda knows their characters aready. The fact that he thinks Fernando is a good guy shows he doesnt judge people and his willig to befriend anyone as long as no one is trying to hurt Lety.

To be fair, I too, an aldo naysayer to be sure, appreciated the fact that he recognized that Fern is a decent person, albeit a bit misguided in the past.

Let's see what he does with this new found info. What kind of power will he have once he knows Fern really loves Lety. Will he tell her, or keep it to himself for his own agenda? Then we'll see what kind of person HE is.

I too am cutting back watching the program, mostly because of Aldo. Can't stand him, don't like him playing therapist and no one smiles 24/7. And he would not tell lety of fernando's love, becaue he wants her. I am cutting back, by taping the program and then each time aldo and lety are togehter, I just fast forward.

Julie...loved your story about the Blo-pop and yearning for Shaun Cassidy...it's these little asides that add to my enjoyment of the translations. I go waaaaaay back to SkyKing rings (with secret compartment) and Lance LaRue and Randolph Scott...learning Spanish to ward off senility.
Thanks especially for the translation of "chusma"...couldn't find it in either my U of Chicago dictionary or the Slang one. Where did you find it?
Fern's dive over the desk was fabulous...hope his injury won't last as long as Lety's. Judy

Laughed through most of the recap and during the show. I actually think that Yazmin looks like a cut rate version of Wonder Woman in that get up. What a joke on Luigi that she sent his "model" to recetion. A very subtle and smart reminder to our half waman of exactly who is in charge. A nice "Take that one Luigi." Good for Lety she is starting to slip into the part of Presidenta.

Loved Dr Phil interviewing/cross examining Fern. I think he was actually surprised when Fern told him that for him now, love was the most important thing in the world. If Aldo weren't so all fired fixated on Lety he would be an ideal matchmaker and get them back together since he now knows how both of them feel. I wonder if he will ever tell Lety that he saw Fern in Acapulco in bad shape.

Was stunned by the fly over the desk routine. I also thought that it wasn't exactly scripted for Fern to fly over and really appear to hurt his wrist. I also thought Jamie and Agustin play off each other really well. It looked like they were having one heck of time keeping from falling on the floor laughing. I'm coming to like Omar a lot more lately as he seems to be learning to respect Lety even if he does still have that annoying habit of calling her or trying to call her a gargoyle.

I love the traveling garbage bag. Marcia is suspecious that Fern is keeping it as a souvenir and it bugs the heck out of her. I'm willing to bet as soon as he gets back he is going to take it out of the trash and hide it again. Shades of the infamous red bolsa.

Two hours on Monday! Hooray for us bad news for the recappers. I'm also curious as to why Mundo is being cut off again. They are near the end and I can only think that it in the process of being cut up to end it faster and bring on its replacement which I think is Zorro.

food for thought. Will lety see the picture of fern and her, that he has on his computer, since she is now in his office? Ando probably no to the question as to whether aldo would let lety know that fern was in alcapulco in bad shape. I figured she would find out and then she would reminnince back to that moment, when she was learning over him, but did not recongize him; however, she commented about feeling her soulmate or something like that.

I think they already took Fern's computer out of Lety's office.

Zorro's going to be on the other Spanish channel, Telemundo, by the way, and not on Univision, so it won't exactly be replacing Mundo de Fieras, just starting up at the same time period.

I don't think Aldo would necessarily know that Fernando was talking about Lety. He only knows Lety's side of the story, that Fernando betrayed and hurt her, so he might imagine that Fern was talking about loving someone else. I think he'd soon guess it's not Marcia, though!

These long telenovela days do seem like some nightmarish No Exit.

I was amazed the other day when someone posted Lety ran off with Don H. It seems the the final shooting script for LFMB has been stolen and all the wraps are off about the ending. Yes indeed, Lety does run off with Humb. Marcia and Helmet Head are revealed as having been involved in a life long lesbian affair and take control of Concepos in a move taken straight from the pages of Ugly Betty.

There is a stunning double wedding for Caro and Tomas along with Alicia and Luigi who revels that he was never gay just acting like it because it fit the creative image he was looking for. Robopop wins the lottery and he and Julieta take off for her long dreamed of trip to Venice. Unfotunately Erasmo succumbs to all the smoking in Italy and Julieta finds herself a young gondolier who looks just like Aldo.

A hearbroken Fern goes to study with PG and then makes a long pilgrimage to see the Dalai Lama to try and learn to live without "mi Lety". Aldo returns to Acapulco and opens a restaurant called A Taste of Seduction while on the side operating an institute teaching young girls about El Mar and the power of love. The Mexican government is investigating it after complaints from parents that it is nothing more than a cult.

Abandoned by his amigo Fern, Omar has a sex change operation so that he can see what it is really like to be a weepy clingy woman coping with lying men.

Obviously I have too much time on my hands and this is all in fun without a word of truth in it. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

First, I hope the lateness of this recap didn't ruin anyone's day. ;-) I was tired on Friday, had things to do on Sat. morning, and quite frankly found the episode painfully dull.

Sorry to say that it probably won't be the last time a recap isn't there when you wake up on Saturday morning. This sleep problem I have is taking a toll. I can usually work up a fun episode the same night, but a dull or difficult one (I sometimes find Aldo's pompous talking difficult) may have to wait till the next day.

Anyway. Onto other subjects:

Yes it looked like Fern really hurt his wrist but they kept on going. That could be why they didn't reshoot the shot just before that when they were giggling a little bit. Sometimes you read about actors working on a daily show and how sometimes, when it's getting REALLY late and they start getting punchy and there's no time to reshoot the scene.

I found chumsa in my Oxford "pocket" edition. It doesn't always have every word I want, expecially the Nahuatl stuff, but it has chusma. :{) (That's a mustache, by the way.)

Decie girl: From your lips to God's ears.

But who ends up with Celso? That's what keeps me awake at night.

I, too, am fast forwarding the aldo scenes. Maybe aldo's constant psycho babbling is causing Tomas' hair to rise like a helium balloon.

Julie, maybe Yázmin will repent of her wicked ways because of Lety sitting on her to behave, and she'll end up with Celso, which would serve El Checque right and make Lola happy all at the same time.

Jeanne

Julie you have the perfect venue for your feaisms as the recap to last over the weekend. The two days without the show are not at all troubling when we have such fun recaps and commenters. Man, decie girl, that scenario is hysterical...popping the happy pills are we? I was dying, dying, dying (everyone thought I was popping happy pills when I was only just reading our site :))
Thanks for the laughs recapper and commenters alike. I'm under such pressure to be funny, I may just have to wave the white flag. Maybe I can consult Aldo to guide me through the fog, but alas, we've already establish that his humor factor is way low on the spectrum. Oh well! Thanks again all!

Oops I forgot to add that after his sex change operation Omar changed his name to Omarosa Marie and applied to appear on The Apprentice.

I noticed that the recap comments get more and more. Now it is in the 60's. I found this out by accident. Do people continue to comment on shows gone by? I don't want to miss the conversations but this would be confusing for me ROTF. I thought the comments stop for one show, afte the recap is done for the next?? As far as celso. I never thought about him in any form; yet he is spoken about frequently now, as to what happens with him. I thought it was funny about Jazamin and him ROTF; The whole write-up that someone gave, about their idea of what happens to everyone on the telenovia. It was a riot. I had thought that Caro and Omar would get together, but that was before Aldo came into the pic. Maybe he will be with her. Lola and her hubby get back together, Jazamin with Luigi, the feas go to the wedding of lety and fernando, I "pray" and they are all beautiful and they have confidence in themselves. Alicia marries tomas. At first i thought it might be Ariel. In fact I bet it is because he hates her too much to really hate her. From a psychogical view, he probably actually loves her but is so repulsed by the idea, that he is trying to convience himself of his hate for her. Lety does such a good job at conceptos, she offered some high position. Fernando gets his back, Omar continues to be an A ....... rotf but a funny one and falls for caro. Which reminds me. Where is she????? Where is humph????????

How come we have so many people enjoying themselves talking about the fea telenovia; yet, the Mundo de fieres usually only have a few people? I can't watch it, cause I saw the part about the baby swaps. That was too anxiety provoking, cause there aren't many options for a happy ending, where the children will be mentally sound, as well as the adults. And what is this about another spanish channel. I am in Pennsylvania and 16 is Univision. What is the other channel where Zorro will be? Also, being american, I don't have access to mexican movies. How do you find out when Jaimi Camil/Angelica Vale, will be in a movie, soap opera or on a talk program?

Thank you Julie for the recap. I enjoyed the humor.
Thanks Decie girl for the "ending". I laighed so hard I was in tears at the "ending".
I am glad that we can add humor because the episodes are a little dry at times.
I feel like gagging with Aldo and his "philosphical" conversations. Que aburrido!

I am really hoping that Aldo will have a mellowing effect on some of the most obnoxious people at Conceptos. Maybe Marcia will actually become kind and friendly, Mama T. loving and supportive to her offspring, and Alicia best buddy to the feas?
Fat chance on all the above but surely Aldo's chanting will come to some good. He does seem to make Lety happy as a supportive friend.
I'm really enjoying Fern's jealousy and competition with Aldo!
I don't mind Omar as much as I use to and don't even think of John Davidson anymore when I see him.

I noted that someone hadn't found "chusma" in her dictionary. I found it in my favorite on-line dictionary: Wordreference.com. I hadn't seen Wordreference mentioned before, and I want to recommend it. It has the best percentage of success.

wordreference.com has been mentioned before, but not often. I'm offline when I write my recaps, so I still prefer to rely on my paper dictionary most of the time. I love wordreference, though, not so much for its dictionary and its verb conjugator, but because there's a forum where people discuss such thorny issues as estar vs. ser, tú vs. usted, etc.!

Someone asked about "another Spanish channel." It's Telemundo. It's not available in all markets. When I lived in FL I had my choice of Telemundo, Univision, and Gala. Up here in the northeast, Univision is my only choice... and I need cable to get it.

Thanks Julie for explaining the channel for me. I am in the northeast and I thought there were other spanish channels going on. Maybe with extended cable perhaps. I have basic and get channel 16 but it says that it is channel 65

"...in Pennsylvania ... 16 is Univision...." What part of Penna? Is it regular broadcasting or do you have to pay for it? I'll be moving from D.C. to Erie Penna by end May so I'll miss lmb's last 2-3 weeks in June for usa. Since Univision's affiliates list near Erie, Penna only shows Phila, Cleveland, and Elmira, NY I supposed I have to try to make youtube work at the free library there, which probably defaults to real player instead of windows media player and can't be adjusted. Is anybody in here near Erie Penna and watching univision on regular broadcast tv? What channel? Is it from canada? Since May 2006 I've been rushing home to see lmb at 8pm and now I'll have to miss the last 2 to 3 weeks. Drat. drat drat drat
(At the library here in DC I haven't had to watch lfmb on the free internet at the library because it is broadcast free on channel 14 on regular tv.)

hi i like letty now she looks great and smart she has a back bone then when she first started working there. she look a little girl but now she looks like a profressional working woman go letty and rock on.

Has anyone seen the skits on La Parodia, "la fea mas fea"? It's a show on Saturday afternoon on Univision, kind of like SNL. I guess they have been doing LFMB skits for a while, but this is the first I've seen. It was so funny and amazingly it was about the same day we are on. They even had Aldo in the dirty turtleneck and leather jacket. I tried finding it on You Tube, but there were only a couple clips.

Here's a skit about when Lety gets back from Acapulco:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8pLgLv5nbU

I think the two hours of LFMB tonight is Univsion's attempt to try and hold the Mundo audience and keep it from jumping to Zorro. Mundo is in its last weeks, is, in my mind, one of the truly dreadful novelas and Univsion doesn't want to lose the prospective audience for its replacement. Zorro is allededly based on the Isabel Allende novel, is a Colombian/USA production with an international cast. There is a lot of talk and expectation about it and who wouldn't want to check out a novela with a theme song sung by Alejandro Fernandez and Beyonce of all people. Telemundo is countering by reshowing Zorro, at least for this week, at 10:35. I might check it out myself if for no other reason that my favoirte actor is in it and I'm curious to see how a couple of actors in their early 40's will do playing the fathers of the leads who are 38 and 30.

D'oh again!! I just realized that the candy wrappers with the pictures on them were Tootsie pops. And the correct spelling of what I thought Jazmin was eating is Blow-Pop, not Blo-Pop. However, I'm going back and changing her candy to a Tootsie Pop. Because if I keep it as Blo(w) Pop, then my digression doesn't make sense, and that's just the sort of trivial thing that drives me nuts.

Decie girl, you are too much!!!

I just got DVR on my cable programming this past Saturday so thank you to whomever it was who said Zorro will be on tonight. I plan to record it. I'm lucky enough to get Univision, Telemundo, and Gala. Wish I were good enough to recap it; maybe someday.

to Cassie: there are postings at
http://foro.telenovela-world.com/n4/
[<=it's the USA chat version of la fea mas bella who are on their honor to put 'warning' or 'spoiler' or 'advance' &c on the title line (be sure to get the U.S.A. version from the index; the one that doesn't say USA is has postings in mostly English but is primarily on the Mexican broadcast timetable // it has good stuff in it but you have to be careful how you pick your way around to keep from finding out anything you don't want to know yet)]
they seem to think the lfmb's 2 hours for tonight are o-n-l-y in the USA and seem to agree with what you think.
One person says: "you can catch that first ep of Zorro anyway. Telemundo is showing it again at 11:35 pm. They are ALSO showing it at 10 am on Tuesday. So those of us who want to have our cake and eat it too can still catch both..."

anonimo asked about channel 16. I am outskirst of Philadelphia. 16 is regular for me with my cable. My cable is the middle. Not the minimum or the max. Hope that helps you. It is under univision and says 65 but on comcast in bristol area, the channel is 16 for univison.

Decie Girl AWESOME RECAP!
but i got another idea of what should happen.

Lety and Aldo get married but it is revealed on Oprah that she is pregnant with fernando's baby. Erasmo and JUlieta move to Acapulco and Erasmo dies due to a heart attack due to too much food and Julieta tries to drown in the sea but she is rescued by a handsome fisherman.......

Fernando follows lety and aldo who live in acapulco and he tries to kill aldo and vice versa after the Oprah show

Carolina and Omar get married at the same time as alicia and tomas then both couples divorce and alicia marries luigi who decided to turn By after aldo and lety get married tomas and carolina get married omar comes out of the closet and marries luigis xbf Rulli as for the cuartel juana decides to become a nun lola stays alone sara finds love with celso irma goes to the US martha is the same paula maria and simon get married and Jazmin and efren get married and then married and then divorced and then married and then divorced..................

Thats how i would think the story ends i have way too much free time!

Thanks for yr answer. I've got no idea what "Not the minimum or the max" means. Probably I'm ignorant bcs I don't pay ea month for tv or for internet. I go to the libr to use the internet for free. And, I have an OLD portable tv so whenever/wherever I move to next, I plug it in and put the rabbit ears on top and it gives me free tv (abc cbs nbc pbs fox univision.) [<= In DC, univision's affiliate is in Northern Virginia so I'm near its affiliate and get it free. There's no affiliate in Western Penna. If Pittsburgh had one the signal prob wouldn't reach to Erie anyway. If Buffalo had one it might but there isn't one there.] Don't mind me; life's getting too expensive here so I gotta move. It's happened before.

Marcia brags she has Fernando. He has not made love to her since he slept with Lety....or may be they had some when they got back together......oh how scandalous...Marcia u are holding on to man who cant love u that way.May be if Fernando EVER marries Marcia she will have a baby with Luigi he is the only man that likes no talks to her apart from her brother....

Thanks for the recap. cant wait to read the next comments that people shall come up with after 2hours of la fea

Is it just me, or is the show getting tiresome now? I'm not as into watching each episode anymore. The characters are mostly so annoying, including the ones we are supposed to like, such as Lety, Fernando, and Aldo. The repetitive music is so predictable, to the point where even my husband is humming the characters' theme music.
