La Fea Más Bella #228 3/9/07 Aldo shows his avenging side, Tomas makes new friends, and Fer continues acting like an imbecile

They are both so in love with Leticia Padilla Solis. Dum dum dum dum! The cuartel look around at each other wondering if each of the other believes her. Lety continues that she knows that Fer is engaged to Mar and supposedly in love with her and on the other hand Aldo isn’t in a relationship…PM stops her telling her sarcastically, fine, it’s ok if you don’t want to tell us the truth but don’t take us for complete fools. Sara chimes in that it’s really low of her to tell them lies.

Ugh, ok tonight the cuartel p***d me off a bit. They don’t believe her story. What kind of friends are they? Loyalty? Tisk. Lety somewhat shocked, tells them that now she’s telling the truth and they don’t believe her, she doesn’t tell them and they don’t believe her. They go back and forth a little with this and she says ok fine, well, actually one is in love with her and one is only faking it, but there you have it. PM is still in disbelief, and says that Lety has no confidence in them, so that is why she isn’t telling them the truth. She is very offended and says they must no longer be her friends. Juana too, says she better go and they can say goodbye to Lety, no, better, Presidenta Leticia Padilla, the one who is so discreet. Lola, Sara, & PM get up to leave too. Irma (the only independent mind in the bunch) tries to stem the mutiny but to no avail, and Marta won’t leave as long as a crumb remains on the table. Lety is muy impactada. Poor Lety. That scene made my stomach sick.

In NY at the meeting, Fer, still acting like an imbecile juvenile at what would seem to be an incredibly important meeting, is representing Conceptos in fine stead I must say. NOT…. Frankly, Tomas in his goofy outfits of earlier days might make a better impression on these people than Fer at this point. Ok, what about paying back those millions of dollars in 3 months is he forgetting? Surprisingly, the NY folks are indulging him. Well of course, he’s Don Fer the Sexy, and this is telenovela-land. Duh.

A cell phone rings and Fer thinks it’s his, but it’s not, so the other guy gets up to take it. Carla asks him to continue, despite his absence, so he explains the project and Carla is thrilled; she says it sounds very interesting. She thinks they might even be able to do one for the American market and dub it into English. Fer just thinks that’s swell, so he deals out CDs of the promo, says they can work on the methods and he’ll prepare the contract, and gets up to leave. Carla stops him saying she still has some doubts, and asks if he is in a hurry. Our juvenile imbecile realizes he was a bit too quick to the draw and says no, of course not, we came all the way from Mexico for this, so of course I’ll stay and you may ask whatever questions you wish.

All ears, he picks up his phone and fiddles with it. Carla stops her question and asks if he is awaiting an urgent call, or if he suffers from chronic cellulitis. Ha! I’ve seen those people. The ones walking down the street with the phone to one ear, as they seem to talk to themselves, or step in dog doo, or trip over a curb. The ones driving with a phone to their head while weaving all over their lane, or the vulcans wearing their blinking bluetooth headset into the lavatory because it’s become permanently affixed to their skull. Don’t think he has it, so he says yes, a call from his colleague, and it’s a matter of life and death. He chuckles and sort of looks away.

Back at the restaurant the floozies Omar hired try their luck on Aldo asking him what he prefers to cook meat or fish. He of course says fish. Omar says he not only cooks it, he catches it himself. He then thinks they should talk about a different subject. The ladies ask how he would like to conquer a woman, he says by cooking for her. Omar chimes in that he does his best work after the dinner. They seem confused. He asks if they really don’t know what comes after the dinner, and they say no, and he flatly says, well of course, dessert. Omar chuckles again and says he makes a great flaming pear dessert. He then decides he needs to make a call and walks out, he asks some bystanders what happened to his phone memory. Just then it rings and someone asks to speak with Aldo. Omar is impactado and it turns out he grabbed Aldo’s phone. Back at the table Aldo mumbles to himself that Omar will pay for this as he already figured out he was duped. Aldo apologizes to the girls for being trite and explains to them how he was tricked. Just then, “his” phone rings and it’s Fer who promptly proceeds to ask him how the plan is going with that idiot Aldo and your little friends and tells him that he wants Aldo very very far away from Lety. Aldo hangs up on him!!

Omar walks back in and gives Aldo his phone, just as Fer calls back to yell at him. Omar sort of blows him off because he is still in the mixed company and Fer is mad because he had to interrupt his meeting to find out what’s up.

We go to Ali and Tomas eating their lunch in Tomas’ office when Lui walks in. Lui wonders what Alice is doing there and tells them he’s mad about something she said. He notices the food and begins to chow down too. Ali tells him the chicken’s leg is hers, and Tomas claims the breast. Lui begins to chat with her about how Aldo doesn’t care for her. He asks how it is that she knows he’s going to marry her. He asks her if she received a love letter or a bear, etc. she says she went to dinner with him. After analyzing it they realize that Aldo doesn’t favor either of them. Tomas giggles heartily. They look at him and he returns to the frown.

Back at the restaurant, Irma tells Lety to ignore them, and she tells everyone that of course they are her friends and that they matter more than anything else at Conceptos to her. Irma empathizes and Marta remains dedicated to stuffing her face. Sara begs for Irma and Marta to go too. Of course Marta isn’t done eating so she’s not going anywhere. PM tells them then if they want to stay with Lety who doesn’t want to be their friend anymore, then so be it. They are outta there. Lety asks where they would get such an idea that she doesn’t want them as friends. They don’t respond and instead formally tell her to enjoy her meal and leave.

Back at the inhouse chow fest Lui wants to know why life dealt him this horrible blow. Tomas consoles them by telling them at least they know now before it gets too late. Lui tells him lament it all you want but he wonders who will cure this horrible pain. Ali says hers too. They whine in unison. Tomas volunteers of course to help Ali get over it. Lui comments sarcastically that he ignores the circus ringleader but instead wants to console the clown. Then Ali recalls that he said before that Aldo is in love with another. All of a sudden they realize they need to get the information out of him.

The cuartel walk into Conceptos, Lety still begging them to believe her. Lola tells her that friends share everything, good or bad. They think there is some gossip tidbit that Lety knows and isn’t telling them. Ha! Estupidas. She gave them the gossip of the century and they dismissed it!!!! They don’t care what she says and go off to their desks, formally telling her if she needs something she can reach them. Irma tells her again to ignore them that they are crazy. Lety tells herself she’s upset at the way they are acting but she really doesn’t want them to know the truth anyway.

Ali and Lui continue trying to interrogate Tomas, first with sugar then with salt. He gets nervous and walks out saying he has to go to his office. Ali decides to get firm and Lui admires her performance, then Tom returns remembering it’s his office. It seems Ali and Lui will hatch a plan to get the scoop from Tommy.

Lety is now with Aldo in her office talking about how many moles there are and gazing at each other somewhat dreamily when Omar the imbecile walks in announcing that Aldo needs to go on a trip today to secure a signature for one of the contracts. He says he would go himself but he has to stay and monitor the rest of the unsigned contracts. Aldo agrees he’ll do it since it’s in the name of the gastronomy project and Omar walks out satisfied. Lety mocks him and doesn’t like his attitude. Aldo tells her not too worry about Omar because he already has him figured out. She tells him her mom was happy to hear that she’ll be helping and he happy to hear that and asks if he can come by to see her before he leaves. She says of course. She wishes Aldo a lovely trip to which he replies it would be lovely if she went with. She says ok, well have a good trip then and she smiles a silly smile.

Back at Casa Padilla Julieta awaits a call from Aldo regarding her role in the project. Man they are getting everyone into this. I’m waiting to see what Moty’s role is going to be. Official taster of the dishes? Mascot? Sanson’s love interest? Anyway….
Erasmo bears his fangs complaining that he doesn’t have his coffee that he asked for yet. She tells him she couldn’t make it until she gets an important call. He then remembers it must be Aldo and says those people are very important and busy and will probably forget you are even waiting. She doesn’t think Aldo is that way. He says he still doesn’t like that she is kept waiting like this, oh and he wants his coffee. She agrees with him and decides she’ll wait no more. But, not to make the coffee, instead she’ll go to him directly at Conceptos. He doesn’t agree with this and implies that she shouldn’t help out on the project. He also tells her that he won’t allow it. In her own “women are smarter” way she smooths the whole thing over with Erasmo by telling him she’s not asking for his permission and well, she’s off.

Aldo the 1st and Aldo the 2nd are bonding again and Aldo II tells Aldo I to pick a card, any card and he’ll guess what it is. Ja Ja…they are all pictures of Alibubis. Aldo agrees here is a man really in love. Aldo I discusses with II that he feels very uncomfortable and that O and F (Hmm, Oscar and Felix, same initials, Odd Couple indeed!) are trying everything to keep him away from Lety. Tommy wants to know how he knows. The photos in Lety’s office, and he tells him about the “working” dinner with the beautiful women….none can hold a candle to Lety though. He also tells Tom about the phone, and now the trip. But he decides he’s not going to let them know he knows what they are up to. Aldo II agrees they are best kept at a distance.

Back in NY Felix is pressing Oscar as to how his plan is going and Oscar is trying to cover. He tells Felix that Aldo is very astute and figured him out but he already devised another way to keep him away. There is a discussion about whether the Hawaiian girl is with them. He tells him about the trip. Fe mocks him and asks how long the trip is 2 or 3 years, and Oscar says no he’ll be back tomorrow and Fer says, yeah, well done there, Oscar. Patient Carla comes out and asks Fer again if they can continue the meeting and he tells her just one more secondito and he gets in his final "you better get this right, moron" admonishment at Omar before hanging up and rejoining the people he is trying to get to bail him out of his mess. On the sashay back, Carla pauses, turns to the camera, and gives us a Santa Claus finger on the nose knowing look. She’s got an idea.

Back at Conceptos, Tom comes in to tell Lety he has a dilemma. If it’s about Oxi she doesn’t want to hear it. He says no. They are friends right? Lety says of course why. He continues well I’m friends with Aldo too. He pauses, and then after making an important discovery to himself confirms that his friendship with her weighs more than his with Aldo. She applauds this since after all he only just met Aldo and he’s known her all his life. She’s very glad to hear this. He tells her that O & F want to separate her from Aldo. He then rehashes all of their efforts. This makes Lety determined. She decides to give them a surprise.

Back in NY Felix finally rejoins the meeting. They continue discussing the project. Carla says that here there is no culture of indigenous cuisine, that it all comes from somewhere else and that the Americans really love Mexican food. Most of the cooks in NY are Mexican as a matter of fact. He notes that a lot are from Puebla and launches into a mariachi “jingle” about Puebla, and it’s food, and it’s women. He’s not sure though if he likes it better in a rock version or opera. Carla notes that he must be very tired from the trip and that chronic stress like his can cause his energy to run out, because the adrenaline is flowing constantly; that stress causes us not to think clearly. He tells her he’s fine, and not to worry about his stress. She laughs and says they’ll adjourn until tomorrow am at 9:00. OK, I guess she’s found a polite way to address his antics. They all say good-byes, but then she asks him to remain, and says that stress is connected to fear and wonders if he is afraid of his female boss as she rubs him affectionately. Ok, now I’m not too fond of her. He awkwardly balks and asks if she is a publicist or a psychologist. She says both. He leaves. She hands him his phone that he forgot.

Lety walks into Oscar’s office and he is finishing up a call with the guy who needs to sign the contract. He hands it to Lety with pencil and says everything is ready here for Aldo to take for signature. She says, with a pencil. He puts it away. She tells him that she decided she’s going with. He is impactado. He tells her she has a lot to do here and well, ok, then he’ll go instead. But she reminds him he already said he had to stay to mind the other contracts. He remembers unfortunately he said that. Besides Aldo doesn’t have the authority to negotiate anything on behalf of Conceptos and it would look bad sending a rep that had no power. She then emphatically says as she puts down his toy car that she will then go with Aldo. And she’ll take the contract so it can be signed. With a pen!

We go back to NY where Carla and Fer are exiting the building and she asks where he’s going. He says he needs to go back to the hotel to listen to messages and check e-mail etc. She says how boring, you are in NY and you are going to stay locked up in your hotel? She asks him to let her tend to him since they are working together. This from the woman who ended the meeting because he’s so tired. She asks if he would rather take a cab, walk, or the subway. He doesn’t feel safe with the subway so they decide to walk. Hmm….

The Padilla’s show up at Conceptos and Lety invites them in to her office. While Erasmo admires her nameplate, they discuss that Aldo unfortunately can’t talk to Juli right now because he’s getting ready for a trip. Oh and by the way, I’m going with him. Erasmo is impactado, and Juli smiles.

Irma tells the cuartel how awful they treated Lety, their friend. Just then Lui walks up and tells the cuartel to remove their masks because Halloween is over already. He wants to know where the dancers are that he needs them right away and he sends Irma off for them. Ali interrupts and he says he will tend her in a minute. He then walks over to her and they are discussing that she has to be the one to find out from Tommy who is Aldo’s love interest. She asks if he is insinuating the she get together again, er she means ever, with him to acquire the info. Lui seemed to miss her slip up.

Omar decides he has to stop Lety from going on the trip, he barges into Aldo’s office, where Aldo has just finished saying how much better the trip would go if Lety came. He rushes in and tells Aldo that he better hurry up and leave because he doesn’t have much time. Aldo says he’s on his way after he says goodbye to Lety. Oscar grabs every reason he can, traffic, etc. to keep Aldo from talking to Lety.

Back in Lety’s office she begins to try to comfort Erasmo about the trip when Omar bursts in and says he’d like to let her know that Aldo has just left. She gets a very angry face and cut to the pool water….

Thanks for giving us something to start our day. The cuartel was disgusting with their lack of loyalty. Not acting like true friends, but nothing is logical in teleland. I liked the chronic cellulitis term, it's apt for so many people. IMO, the bluetooth earpieces are just a step away from having a chip implanted under the skin.

Thanks Kris, you are off to a great start and anything & everything you do is appreciated.

UGH!! The cuartel (minus Irmita) disgusts me. And, I am convinced that they don't even have a complete brain between the five of them. Lety should stick to friends like Caro. At least she can think.

Cellulitis---might just make it into the medical dictionary someday soon. My sister had a girl in her class tell her the other day that she needed her cell phone to drive. Scares me what the next generation believes to be important.

Kris, thanks for the recap, Part 1! It’s great and Iook forward to Part 2! Weekends are dry until Monday, so this is something to look forward to…..

Anon 9:37 a.m. and Kris-- Speaking of cellulitis and how you hate seeing people with the Bluetooth body parts in their ears, did you know that for just $299 a licensed audiologist can make you an earpiece like the earmolds used for hearing aids, fitted perfectly into each individual person’s ear canal, complete with a helix extension? That’s really overkill, you think? It’s as close to a microchip as you can get.

I am now terminally disappointed in the cuartel, except Irma. They are immature, self-absorbed, selfish and totally inappropriate. They just went on the official list of people we’re going to send to La Sierra Escondida in Duelo de Pasiones and aim them off toward the Bermuda-triangle-whirlpool. Or the quicksand.

The really tragic thing is that Lety still cares what they think. Aldo is a WAY better friend to her than any of those ever hoped to be. Tomás is a close second, but he sometimes says things that are a tiny bit hurtful because he is honest and that’s how he sees things (she’s not beautiful, she’s fea—Aldo thinks she’s beautiful to him).

Jeanne

So far, Kris, I think this is your best recap ever! If ever an episode needed some editorializing, this is it. Times like this, I realize how much the ladies of the cuartel need to get a life.

Like Alicia, I also fight over the chicken leg (as long as it's on a an actual chicken, and not a man). As for Tomas... well, I think we already suspected he was a "breast man."

I guess I was premature the other night when I said that Omar and Fern's plan had ended. The only thing that ended that night was its chance of succeeding. But Fern and Omar didn't let that stop them!

I can't seem to find out what the actress' name is who plays the part of Cara (as of NYC episode, she's new in the cast). At first she looked to me like Chantel Andre who played Antonia in Amor Real the rival of Adelia Noriega who played Matilde for the attention of Manuel (Fernando Colunga), but I went over to Esmas to see her bio and LFMB isn't listed. (By the way, on Esmas they say that in Mexico lfmb is immediately beginning to rerun. I suppose that Esmas has spoilers, but I can't speak Spanish. I can't even figure out if they are re-running it only on Saturdays or what they are saying.)

/mab

/mab, you won't find her as "Cara" because her name is Carla, or Karla. She's listed on imdb.com as Mariana Seoane and her name is also listed in the opening credits.

I totally agree about the Cuaratel!! They made me want to puke! I'm telling you - Aldo is starting to look pretty good. He needs to get "our" Lety out of Conceptos! Is Irma the only decent person in the company?

Not to mention Fern's behavior at the meeting. That really was childish.

Thanks for the Recap Julie and for staying up late to post this morning.

Rhonda

OOPs Sorry Kris, thought Julie posted this one. My apologies and thank you for staying up late to post this morning :-)

Rhonda

I've never cared for the cuartel and their lack of loyalty and incessant prying for information they have no business knowing sickens me. Poor Lety thinking this group of perro's is the only good thing about working in Conceptos is pathetic. Regardless of how much their actions hurt her Lety p**sed me off with her usual hangdog response. Lety only has to stick it out at Conceptos (the company from hell) for three months. She needs to put on her big girl panties and deal with the fools around her instead of whinning and running to Dr. Phil at the drop of a hat.

Fern and the phone switch was too much as will be the consequences. I'll hold comment until Part 2 arrives.

The lunch at Tomas' desk was priceless with skinny Luigi, T and A chowing down like it was their last night on earth. I've come to the conclusion that Oxi is perfect for Tomas' but God help their grocery bills.

Fern seems to be avoiding the temptation of Karla very well if acting like the biggest doofus on earth at the meeting.

Cellulitis - very funny. I just got a new blackberry for my birthday and when the clerk mentioned it was blue tooth enabled I had to ask him what he was talking about. I hate the mere thought of walking down the street apparently talking to myself. Now all I have to do is figure how to download a picture of Fern to my new phone so like him I can drool as he does over his beloved fea. LOL

Does Aldo have herpes on his lips or are they just big pimples?

thanks Julie for rescuing me from my puzzlement -- I kept staring at chantel's face on the supposedly official colunga website and couldn't figure out if carla was her or not (so many stars have a face that looks different in every lighting and at every angle).

/mab

Anoy 3:46

Regarding the state of Aldo's lips...I believe he must have Herpes (cold sores) as it is very noticable in the final episodes...
Or perhaps he is allergic to the resin used in those billboard veneers? Just sayin don't slam me.

Anon 3:46 and Beckster, Aldo's lip was cut during the fight. It bled. I'm surprised they didn't make it look big, too.

Hey, decie girl! Don't hold back, tell us what you really think!

;-)

Jeanne

Cellulitis is already a disease. I almost died of it one summer. It's when you get a staph infection in/under your skin. My face blew up like a monster and I was in the hospital for four days. Who knew you could almost die of something you never heard of before.

I try not to look at Aldo's lips that closely, so I have not noticed anything, other than his mouth looks too small to hold all those chiclets. hee hee
Poor Lety could use one good female friend. The cuartel are just plain annoying and were not good candidates for friends even before this episode of immaturity.
Something I did not get a chance to comment on when it happened, but I really did not think Psychic Guy should have given Lety her reading (or whatever you call it) in front of the cuartel. Since when does he work in front of an audience? And those locas of all people.
(Just saw your comment, Melinama.
Sorry to hear you had to go thru that.)

Teresa

I usually can only understand about 40% of what people are saying or just what's going on in general while watching the show but for some crazy reason I understood EXACTLY what the cuartel were saying yesterday. What a bunch of pathetic busy-bodies. Although what's her name, the one that stuffs her face all the time, she looked nice yesterday. They chose good makeup and earings and her hair looked better too, think they're getting ready to give her a storyline now that Lola's is finished? Do I care?

I just about died laughing when Luigi and Alibubis were there with Tomas, eating like it was their very last. They do have one thing in common! Did anyone else hear Aldo call Omar "omarcito" last night? I think it was a thought bubble kind of thing but I thought it sounded cute. Such a lovable idiot. By the way, I've been pondering karla and seeing how she has immediatly taken to Fernando and started to take care of him I am wondering if the writers are meaning her to be Fernando's Aldo? Maybe she'll decide she's in love with him just as quickly as Aldo did with Lety and there will be months of "I should love her but... MI LETY!" etc. Who knows?!!

Lori

Thanks Kris for the recap. Talk about "un burro hablando de orejas" - Fern calling Omar an imbecile. Fern's actions at the conference are just out of control. Does he remember the goal of trying to get Conceptos out of the debt that his actions have caused? I had to go on YouTube and pull up the scenes of Lety and Fern on that wonderful weekend in Cuernavaca. I felt better after watching these scenes and remembering all the reasons for loving Fern.

Melinama, I always thought that condition was called cellucitis, but after reading your post I did a little search on Google. Taken from Mayoclinic.com :
"Cellulitis (sel-u-LI-tis) is a potentially serious bacterial infection of your skin. Cellulitis appears as a swollen, red area of skin that feels hot and tender, and it may spread rapidly.

Skin on the face or lower legs is most commonly affected by this infection, though cellulitis can occur on any part of your body. Cellulitis may be superficial — affecting only the surface of your skin — but cellulitis may also affect the tissues underlying your skin and can spread to your lymph nodes and bloodstream.

Left untreated, the spreading bacterial infection may rapidly turn into a life-threatening condition. That's why it's important to recognize the signs and symptoms of cellulitis and to seek immediate medical attention if they occur." See all of the educational things we learn here on Caray, Caray!

So it has nothing to do with a cell phone--that Carla should have come up with a name that isn't already taken for a real disease, like cellucitis. I've been sitting on the fence as to whether I like her or not, I think this just pushed me over to the "not" side (I really was leaning in that direction, so something this minor was just the push I needed).

Onto a totally unrelated, but in a roundabout way related subject. Does anyone listen to Juanes' music? I just got Laura Pausini's new album and on there she sings a duet with Juanes. Esta canción me encanta. Qué bonita.

Thanks for the Laura Pausini album tip.

I suspect the writers know it's a real condition and included it intentionally as a play on words. Puns work better when they refer to something real, no? Although, I suspect that for someone who nearly died from the condition, like Melinama, the joke just isn't quite as funny. I can only imagine how scary and painful it must be to go through.

But, since we are in a make-believe and humourous entertainment setting, I will say that I think it would be quite amusing in our fairy-telenovelaland if one of our choice despisees managed to contract the condition....say Ariel? :)

To 8:22 p.m and Juanas. I have a CD of him. His songs are nice. I like the La Paga. It is challenging for me, english speaking. I buy the albums, get the spanish words to them and sing along with the songs. It helps me learn the language. I can read the spanish, I have problems when someone talks in spanish. Listening to different singers with their different accents is a good way to learn.

Kris, thanks for the Part 2 of the recap, also delightful!

Melinama, that staph infection sounds dreadful. Thanks, Cathy, for the research on it. Is is rare, or what?

Jeanne (also a medical knowledge junkie)

I thought the funniest thing I heard was when fern wanted omar to send pics of lety and omar asked him if he had gargolita anti virus ROTF. That was soooo funny.

I am hopeful that Aldo is still there, has caught on to Omar's duplicity, and decides to say goodbye to Lety anyway. I hope she goes with him and scares the living daylights out of Omar. He deserves a bad night for going along with Fern's nonsense. I give you odds if she goes, she has her own room and stays there. But, Fern and Omar wouldn't know that. In fact, Omar would find a way to follow them.....and probably get busted.

I'm just saying.

Jeanne

cellucitis....is not rare. I have had it twice...wait probably 4 times. I am a Type 1 diabetic...genetics, not life style..twice I had it from glucose iv drips in my hands and twice I have had it at the site of my insulin-pump infusion. I just got oral anti-botics all four times. I have known other people that are not diabetic but have had it at IV sites.
I've had and didn't catch it when reading it...I was thing cottage cheese thighs..

Also now about LFMB...Aldo sees Tomas as a man in love. I see Tomas as a virgin +plus 1 stalker.

The recap was well worth the wait Kris. I do not like this Karla person at all & I think its funny how one blogger was referring to her as Cara! Fernando keeps saying that when he gets back he's going to show Lety how much he loves her... I hope he actually does what he says! To anonymous 6:45, I had to go to youtube too and watch Lety & Fer's weekend getaway episodes aswell. To those who have just started watching the show, if you missed all the cute Fer & Lety episodes, then I suggest you check out youtube because then you will understand why most of us are ok with how Fernando is acting.

Esther

Beckster--thanks for the additional info on cellulitis. That's not a funny disease, all right. We have the family genetics for diabetes, so I always keep the additional complications in mind (and I started out teaching blind children before I taught deaf children, so I saw children with juvenile diabetes and certainly adults with diabetes from time to time in my work). I didn't realize this was what this "rash" kind of thing was called. It's clearly way more than a rash. For all that I like to learn new medical trivia and keep up on it, this is a term I hadn't heard.

It is entirely possible that this illness has an entirely different name in Mexican Spanish, and the writers didn't realize how serious what they were writing in. It was cute when she said it, but I don't think it is cute now.

Jeanne

BACKGROUND information please.
Why is the group of office women called "cuartel"?
The reason I ask is that I was reading an old document (genealogical) - a civil birth record - where the residence of the witness was identified as "... in this cuartel" (loose translation). I then consulted my little flunky dictionary - it has this definition: ward [of a town]; military barracks or military quarters. I have been watch LFMB since January, so know the whole background of the characters. Thanks for your enlightenment.

in spanish, lots of diseases end with -itis, so attach -itis to anyword and you got a disease.

Like constant door closing or whatever may be called puertitis or if you want to go even further, puertitis aguditis, acute dooritis. Fixation on Demian=Demianitis.

Correction - Re: Cuartel background.
I meant to say I DON'T know much about the characters. Sorry.

I think they use the term cuartel in place of the word group. They are the cuartel of feas. I don't really know of any other reason.

When I was in high school my friends and I referred to ourselves as the "B" crowd (because we weren't in the "A" list/popular group). Perhaps it is a similar thing and everyone at Conceptos has just taken to using the name for them as well. It certainly is a lot easier than saying Paula Maria, Sara, Juanita, Irmita, Marta, Lola, and Lety everytime you want to refer to all of them.

Marycelis, THANKS for the info on -itis. So, did Carla say cellulitis or cellularitis? (I seem to remember the term "cellular" pronounced the Spanish way for cell phone.)

Jeanne

Cathy,

I like Juanes as well. I was just listening to his CD Mi Sangre. I particularly love the La Camisa Negra track. It has a great beat.

Jeanne,

I never hold back ;-)

So Lety now decided to go on the trip with Aldo. Like Erasmo is ever going to let that happen. Omar has gone too far but I think Lety is also acting a little childish in planning to make them sorry for what Aldo told her is going on.

Several months ago I read a spoiler that indicated Lety plays a nasty trick on them but that was weeks ago and I don't see any sign of her moving toward the stunt (which was elaborate and involved other people) and now wonder if the spoiler I read was nothing but a nasty trick. In any event it had nothing to do with her going on a trip with Aldo.

We now have 12 weeks to go and from a lot of the rumors we heard, there is a lot of stuff still to happen including the make over which seems so far in the distance as to be ridiculous and there are at least 4 characters yet to be introduced. Maybe with any luck the pace will start to pick up or a lot of things are going to be jammed into a limited amount of time.

In any event I'm now a year older than I was when this long day began at Conceptos.

your memory is correct. I believe that's what Carla was referring to and not the real disease.

I would not be happy for lety to go with aldo to sign the papers. all that is doing is bringing them closer togehter, which most of us do not want. It may teach omar a lesson but it will cause other problems in the long run.

Cellutis. My husband had it twice. Once on the arm and once on the leg. It looks exactly like its' word cellulitis. I was under the impression that it is an infection of the cells of the skin and it looks just like cellutis that people get on their legs and stomach. Just sqeeze your stomach and you can mimic what the cellutitis looks like. Howver, it is read, it is hot and it is horrible looking. My husband spent 5 days on intervenus meds in a hospital. the second time he had to give himself intervenus meds three times at day at home with a machine they gave him. He was told that he might have bumped himself which caused it and since he has diabetis, it did not heal.

decie girl, i have an inkling of what u are talking about (email me for more info) and we have a lot to go for that to happen.

oopes should read but we have a lot to go for that to happen.

Hey Decie Girl,

Big Girl Panties - Love it!

Great Recap,

Rhonda

Decie girl, I think your last post means we need to wish you a ¡Feliz Cumpleaños! (Right?) Hope it is/was a good one! (Or were you just expressing some sarcasm about the slow pace of the novela.....?)

Jeanne

Jeanne,

It was a bit of both LOL. Yesterday was the day and I just hope I won't have another birthday before LFMB is over something I am dying to see but don't want to have happen at the same time. Then again I'm a Pisces so i guess that makes sense.

Reminder everybody, NO SPOILERS. That includes mentioning rumors you've heard or future characters to be introduced. Many of our readers have BEGGED us not to give them ANY HINTS so please hold back. Obviously any one of us could "read ahead" any time we want to at any other location so let's keep this one pristine for people who like to experience their adventures in real time.

We all know Lety loves Fern, even Aldo knows this. So if she goes on this little overnite trip with Aldo, it is more about her sticking it to Fern than going to be with Aldo. What she should do is take the trip herself and tell Aldo to finish writing the darn book! This would be the best scenario for whoever is signing the contract, no long-winded Aldo speak about the flavor of life.
4 more characters to be introduced?
I don't know if I like the sound of that. I don't like this Carla chic. She seemed to be smelling Fern's hair when she was leaning over him when they were the only 2 left in the office. I also did not like her outfit, the winter hat she left on and her stringy hair. She is the dark-eyed, blinking version of Marcia.
Beckster and Anon 3:30--sorry to hear your cellulitis stories, glad it's in the past and hope it stays there.

Teresa

Decie girl--

"Pisces...it makes sense"

Lety & the cuartel...yeah that was way wrong & I must say the cuartel I work with would have the decency to wait & say it behind her back...
I think Lety has wrapped her feaness around her like a shield. It is bizarre cause while maybe she would not be a great beauty..(Lety not Angelica Vale), no one wears braces for 10 years, even on the most remote ranches married women take the braid down for special occasions. The unibrow come on. But too I have worked with people that dress so dowdy their age could be anywhere from 25-55, also those glasses. Stop shopping at Matronly Mode. Her mother doesn't look as dowdy as Lety so where does she get that from?
I think she uses her feaness as a means not to enter the world. Also remember the nite of her birthday, Fernando tried to back down, but she pulled the ole...sob sob, Don Fernando, you can't do me cause I'm ugly....Please...grow up

Decie i watch the youtube and it is tricky. I try to avoid that now. I was devistated when I saw something and when it actually happened here, here it was a suena de dia. DUH. They failed to mention that little tidbit on the tube. This could have saved me nights of anquish and no sleep. ROTF Now I can't even trust what I see anymore.

PS I have the sangre cd. It is fabulous. I've learned to sing the songs, by getting the lyrics offline. I look at the spanish lyrics and sing to the songs. w/o the lyrics at first, I would not recognize the words t the songs, because of the music playing at the same time. It's hard enough listening to americna songs and trying to figure out what they are saying.

Beckster

I think you are spot on with Lety using her feaness as a way to avoid the real world. She is also using this possible trip as a means to punish and stick it to Fern which really makes me question her so called love for him. In reality what did he do that was so unforgivably awful? He used her to try and keep his company, and yes he slept with her twice while maybe or maybe not loving her. But what the heck makes her think she is the only woman in the world THAT ever happened to. A lot of guys I've known in my life laugh about just having to say the three magic words and the woman is theirs for the taking.

She relentlessly uses the same defense all the time - she runs away. She never gave Fen a chance to explain anything to her. She is a monumental coward in my books. I think she deserves a one note bore like Aldo and Fern deserves someone who can really love him and his goofy ways and who can understand how insecure and wounded he is and Lety poor ugly me just isn't it. At least right now.

Diane

In the original series, the Carolina character came right out and told the Lety character that she was hiding behind her ugliness. This was when they were working at the beauty pageant. As a result, Betty ended up getting a makeover, so she was already the New Betty when she came back to take over as president of Eco Moda.

Yes, cellulitis - not rare at all. I have a few friends who have had to go to the hospital with it. For at least one of them, it started out as a seemingly minor scratch. I got a mild case of it from, of all things, an ingrown hair that I didn't know about. I didn't have to go to the hospital, but I did have a lot of antibiotics and needed outpatient surgery as well. Not the most fun ailment I've ever had, that's for sure.

Julie, wow. I had no idea. So much for me being a medical knowledge junkie. This one eluded me! Glad you had help for it.

Jeanne

I consider myself a medical junkie as well, but cellulitis is pretty mundane. It's not glamorous enough to make the cover of Time magazine, or an episode of House or a 20/20 Medical Mystery. When it happened to my friends, I remembered it as "some nasty skin infection." The name didn't actually stick with me until I got it myself.

But it does sometimes seem like a disease when I see people talking on their bluetooth earpieces at the supermarket and ignoring the cashier who's taking their money. I don't know what to call this disease, though. Blue-ear? But that's not what Fern has. Motorola-ear? Whatever.

itis...an inflammation or infection

most medical terms are derived from Greek....some from latin...
thats why kidney disease is that Nep....something I don't want to look it up.

Nephritis?

Hi there. She definitely said cellulitis and it means the same thing in spanish, just different spelling: celulitis.

Julie. You speak about the origional story of la fea. Is that the Betty la fea, or our La Fea Mas bella that just finished up in Mexico, cause I thought that one was the same exact one we are seeing now??

Having nothing to do but housework I got to thinking about Lety and her ugliness. Both Aldo and Fern see her inner beauty (something I'm having trouble with at the moment) but Aldo still sees her ugly exterior as noted in his conversations with Tomas when he reminds him her inner beauty is what counts. Fern on the other hand sees her as beautiful on the outside as well as noted in his conversation with the cabbie and various bartenders. That is also confirmed by Omar's remark that he knew love was blind but not THAT blind.

To Fern she is everything he wants and needs but I think to Aldo she is just a project. I also think that Aldo has issues with the fact that he ignored the wife he claims to have loved so much that she had an affair with his BFF to get his attention. Having a fea and one he can "protect" read control insures that won't happen to him again.

In any event I don't want Lety to end up as second best which is what she would be with Aldo.

Cassie

Cassie, I understand blind devotion to Fern but don't forget he is in a relationship with Marcia, has not admitted to Marcia or anybody but Omar that he still loves Lety, and is not free. Aldo is free, came to DF to be with Lety and tells people so. That doesn't sound like second best to me. Being second to Marcia sounds second best to me.

Didn't Fer tell Marcia he loved Lety...sometime around the time Lety left and didn't he tell his mother also...who was like "Say what?".

Isn't the whole Marcia/Fer thing that she is waiting for him to get over his Lety obsession?

And isn't this really like day four since she returned to DF...in real time...years in telenovela time.

Melinama,

I am by no means blind to Fern's faults anymore than I am to Lety's. I simply believe that Aldo is using her and since early on when he appeared he was muttering about having been betrayed by someone he loved more than life, that Lety is always going to be second best to him. That is not true of the sick Marcia/Fern alliance since Fern never loved her or for that matter anyone else. And yes Fern's returning to her to try and forget Lety is using Marcia but she is a willing participant.

I guess I just don't believe that just because Aldo is running all over the DF talking about his love for Lety as opposed to Fern, who is not as glib as Aldo, who told his best friend, his mother and the clinging vine Marcia that he loves the woman that Aldo's feelings are better than Fern's or that he is better for her. Whoo that was a mouthful.

Cassie

When I said "in the original story," I was referring to the original Betty La Fea, from Colombia. That's why I referred to "Betty" taking over "EcoModa" rather than "Conceptos."

Aldo - I think he is enjoying the feeling that he's nursing Lety back to mental health. That's nice as far as it goes, but it's not the same thing as being in love. If she were to recover and be independent, it would drastically alter the dynamic of their relationship. Then what would he do? Meanwhile, he knows full well that she's on the rebound; he's old enough to know better than to want to be the rebound bf.

Anyway, although I really don't think he's consciously using her, it looks to me like she's just becoming more dependent on him. Or maybe it only seems that way because he doesn't give her a CHANCE to make any decisions on her own.

I guess I would just like to see him giving Lety a little more space. I'm not sure if there was even 24 hours between when she said goodbye to him at the airport, and when she saw him at work the next day. I know it was definitely less than 48 hours!

Julie,

I agree with you thinking Aldo needs to give Lety more space to learn to be independent but i don't think he wants her to be. I think he likes being the guru and hooking up with her overprotect parents and Tomas to protect her from life and being hurt. Someone needs to tell these people that being hurt and learning to cope with it is what turns children into adults. That little cadre of Lety's is doing nothing but encouraging her dependance and keeping her forever locked in her self image as a poor fea. At least during her time with Fern she took some emotional risks and some baby steps to adulthood all of which is now being lost with the smotherlove of the people close to her.

<< She needs to put on her big girl panties . . .>

LOL. How about a pair of panties for Lety's shell? Cover that thing up already!
Marie from Mass

Marie from Mass:

I am at work at reception and had to catch myself before I LOL'ed.

Regarding Alicia talking to the phone buzz, I also recall her saying Carrying on this fake convo with her dad saying "si papi, si papi" and then to the others in the room "I DO have a father" that made me feel kind of sad when she said that.

Regarding the comments about Aldo's mouth. It certainly looks like he took a much bigger beating than Fern in their little slap off. Fern doesn't have a mark on him and yet he was the one who bled first. Aldo didn't take too many hits so it looks weird.

Those preview for tonight don't look good for Omar - seems like Lety's guardians are all going to have a piece of him and she shows some backbone yelling at him about not following orders. Too bad she doesn't have a spine when she is alone.

So when is Fernando going to learn that turning to Omar for help is only going to get him in more trouble? I hope Team Lety kicks Omar's butt tonight.

Hey Everybody! Thanks Kris for the great recap!
I'm geting on here late, but just wanted to point out that it was actually Tómas who really got Lety fired up last Friday. He "leaked" the whole Omar/Fernando plot of keeping Lety and Aldo apart to Lety. I don't know why Aldo didn't tell Lety about the lunch cell phone mix up and his knowledge that Fernando was trying to keep them apart while he is in NYC, but in typical Telenovela fashion he told Tomas instead! Figures.

Fernando really IS his won worst enemy, because I really think Lety would have kept Aldo more at a distance and not gone the signature trip, had she not been angry at O & F's interfernce. It is like she has had enough of all the conniving and now is out to make a point.

I always thought that cuartel meant a similar interest group --like the Arabs formed an oil cuartel.?

Where HAS Carolina been? Cathy you are right when you say Lety should stick to her as a close friend!

Actually, the cuartel secretaries are really pathetic parasites living vicariously through other people! I don't notice them spilling the personal details of THEIR lives--probably because they don't have a life!

I think Lety likes Caro but she is always going to be careful around her because the woman has been a long time friend to Marcia and Fern. I also think Caro is in a tough spot because Marcia was putting the screws to her about choosing between her and Lety.

Two people to go and get a signature on a contract? Oh puleeze and this from a company in financial difficulty. Lety should forget about Aldo going and send Omar. All that contract monitoring he is doing can wait one day. Obviously there is no overnight mail service and attorney/notary publics in the whole country. One more sign of what a badly managed company Conceptos is.

How clever of Aldo to tell Tomy the blabbermouth toad about what he heard Fern say. That keeps him looking innocent when the poop hits the fan and Lety is now getting third hand information. YAWN!

another reason why i think aldo is using everyone. As said before, the way he touches luigi, the flirting with alicia and lety's parents and getting mom invo9lved with the cooking. Befriending Tomas. He probably would not have given him a glance, if he met him elsewhere, but because he is lety's friend, he kisses his u know what. And now, again he is using tomas, by using tomas to tell lety what goes on, since he has no spine to do it himself.

Oh man Marie...my vivid imagination has me balling out of control at your comment!! It was hysterical the first time with decie and now maniacal with you too!!!

I will never be able to look at that painting again with out imagining 1920'ish lacy giant bloomers covering that gaping pink whatever it is. And I can just see Luigi waltzing in wondering if Lety will let him borrow them.

Gosh, I know if I see it on tonight's show, I am going to die all over again!! Thanks for the visual!!! :)

Hmm, the oil thing is a cartel not a cuartel. A cartel is essentially a group of businesses or suppliers that has agreed to work together to set prices or regulate production of a particular good that they all sell and such, i.e. oil, drugs.

Cuartel in Spanish can mean club or group. As far as I am aware, the two are not related terms, and one does not translate to the other, though I see how it could be argued that they sort of could be... but I think cartel originated as a french term that was taken from latin literally meaning leaf of paper or letter (hence signifying the agreement that bonds them rather than the fact that they are a group).

Anwyay, I can look it up to see what more might be said about it.

K, I am dying over here, i am about to pee in my pants.

Did you see Carla the "Ho" trying to seduce Fernando. I hate her. I thought Marcia was bad but this chick takes the cake. She just met him 2 hours ago and she's already conniving to get him. I just hope that Fernando can stay strong.

Lola, "hate" is a strong word! You must really be annoyed by this chiquita. Whew! I wonder if that's how Fern feels about Aldo when he sees him near Lety...

Jeanne
