Duelo May 11 - Help Wanted

Due to circumstances beyond my control, and I think I'm the third one this week to pass the buck, something must be going around, I won't be able to post a recap this week. Any help in the comments section would be awesome, anything coherent I'll copy and paste into the main post here. Sorry folks, very very sorry. Happy Mother's Day to all!

EDIT - Sylvia has come through in the comments with a great recap, I'll copy it in here -

Ah Caray Caray, I wasn't going to watch this episode but I got through the first half...

Carmen begs Santos not to confront Don Max.

Alfonsina gets kissy face with Hugo but he accuses her of stealing the cofre. She weeps and finally convinces him she doesn't have it. It must be Luba who stole it.

Orlando tells Thelma it will be fun to watch Emilio die of rabid jealousy when he marries Duhlina. Thelma tells him when she held the baby over the river and felt the trembling of his little body she loved him, loved him more than anyone even though he's the son of that idiot.

Singing Aunt tells Max that she expects better behavior from hur future spouse. He tells her he'll never marry an old ugly. She says she'll tell Emilio that he killed a poor innocent who turned out to be his son. Max says he'll tell Emilio that Auntie's niece Thelma was boinking the help.

Gaspar prays to the Virgencita to watch over Luba. He sees a vision of the virgin holding his cachorrito, his little cub. He and Tonki chase after her. They follow the vision up into the mountains.

Luba gets captured by the Cacique and his henchman. They tie her to a tree and light a fire under her. She screams "The letter the letter. What are they doing to me? It wasn't my fault." The Cacique tells her she will pay the same price as he, he will kill her son. He decides not to kill her so she can watch Gaspar die. He beats her with a stick and she screams to the Virgencita.

Sergio tells Don Loco that he was assaulted on the way to San Mateo and masked men kidnapped Malena and Mariana. Don Loco figures it's to extort money from him. Just then the corrupt police chief shows up and says Elias escaped. Soledad can barely conceal her smirk.

Elias and Dr. Love reveal themselves, as in they take off their masks, to Malena and Mariana.

Alfonsina and Hugo ransack the cave looking for the cofre. They don't find it and after they leave it glows and blinks, kind of like a prop from the old PeeWee's Playhouse.

Dohlando tries to get lovey dovey with Duhlina in front of Duhmilio. She tells him to cut it out, he knows she intends to divorce him right after the wedding. Dohlando says no, he changed his mind. Duhmilio says he'll make Dohlando do it. Later, when Duhmilio and Angel are alone Duhmilio tells him a letter is on its way to General Ochoa asking for help from the military to arrest Don Loco.

I have to take a break and do some stuff but I'll try to watch the second half later on. Stay tuned...
OK I'm back with the second part...

The Cacique viciously beats Luba. He tries to get her to reveal where Gaspar is. It's a pretty graphic and horrible scene. Gaspar appears and screams "Mama!" She hears his voice and smiles.

Singing Auntie tells Thelma it is Thelma's whoring ways that stand between her (SA) and the man she loves (Max).

Don Loco tells Sergio that he intends for The Lietenant (Orlando) to die at the foot of his wedding altar and it will be Sergio who kills him. Sergio is impactado.

Hugo threatens Nora to tell him where the damn cofre is. Adela convinces him that Nora doesn't know so he leaves.

Thelma and Don Max reach an agreement. He won't tell Emilio about her whoring ways if she will convince auntie to leave with her for Puebla. They toast on it as SA eavesdrops and scowls.

Dr. Love plans to take Malena and Mariana back to Mexico City. He tries to get Elias to go with them but Elias says he prefers to remain in Escondidaville and get his stupid self killed, errr...remain and help save Soledad.

Alfonsina gives Soledad some lip and Soledad smacks her one. Al tries to hit back but Don Loco comes in and won't let her, he says she has to respect his wife, and anyway he's shipping her back to Veracruz tomorrow. Alfonsina mutters that he'll pay dearly.

Alfonsina writes a blackmail letter to Loco and signs Hugo's name. It demands that Don Loco sign over his property to Hugo or he will divulge the secret of the cofre. Don Loco almost catches her in the act but she manages to sneak the letter out.

Duhmilio tells Angel that he will deal with Don Loco one way or the other. He points a rifle at a wall to drive the point home.

Angel is impactado but Duhmilio says it's dad's old tranquilizer gun, he'll only tranquilize Don Loco, not kill him.

Gaspar leaps down the mountain and beats the crap out of the Cacique and his henchman. The angels start to sing. Gaspar runs to his mama and unties her. He sees her whipped back and cut up face. She's messed up but good. He kisses her and yells to the Virgencita. Is she dead? It's not a good sign when the angels sing.

Thanks Sylvia, for saving me from a case of real life intruding! So very inconsiderate of real life, I thought we had a better relationship than that. I hope real life gets eaten by the coyotes.

Hmm, maybe the Duelo team is going on strike! can't blame you...

I did not get to watch it. I went out of town to visit my mom. Sorry.

Regrets also...was in Austin for a wedding and my folks back home forgot to record for me. Pretty sure we'll be able to catch up on Monday though. Judy B.

Sylvia, this is a very concise and great summary recap so far. Thanks!

I caught up tonight, since I stayed home to nurse my congested head. (Bad news descending into ATL from 35K feet with a full head, I nearly screamed from the pain in my left ear yesterday).

The vision of the Virgincita led Gaspar to where Luba was being tortured. When the two guys tried to confront Gaspar, they were no match for him (por supuesto, we coulda told them that, why didn't they think to ask? ¡Tontos!) He took them out in about two moves, better than Bobby Fischer at the Chess Masters. Then he held Luba and didn't cut her down from where they strung her up. I hope he does that soon, 'cause it's makin' me real nervous.

I don't understand why Luba kept on yelling "it was only one day! It was only a day!" or something like that. To quote Ferro, "whatever."

Schoolmarm, I just read your comment. I didn't understand what Luba was saying about "it was only one day" except that maybe she only had one day to try to help the boy. She needed more time to get the proper herbs but he didn't live long enough. Gosh, I hope you feel better soon, it sounds like you went through your own torture yesterday!

I just watched it. Yeah, it doesn't look too good for Luba, with the choral music in minor key. Poor Gaspar! But then again, the virgincita led him to where she was, only to have him witness her death (and kick the crap out of the bad guys?) Doesn't seem worth it. I thought she was leading him out of the cave to safety.

I can't actually think of any novela where the virgincita actually shows up in person. That was strange.

For the umpteenth time, Carmen begs Santos and Rosita to leave SE. It seems like they are going to but then Rosita shows up later to comiserate with Alina.

Vera is really getting on my nerves. The scene when she declares that Alina should be happy because her honor will be restored by marrying Orlando was cringe-inducing.

Vera used to be sensible, but the writers have turned her into a superstitious fool.

I just noticed that somebody posted a good recap for this episode on the telenovelaworld forum:

http://foro.telenovela-world.com/n4/read-t.php?f=411&i=4488&t=4486#reply_4488

I sure wish I would have seen it sooner!!

Dios mio! Sounds like I really missed a whale of an episode...thanks for those witty recaps...poor Luba, she's my favorite character...I want her to survive to bond with Gaspar's baby. Guess I'll have to start praying to the Virgencita. Thanks guys. Judy B.

Thank you Sylvia and Schoolmarm for the quick recaps. I hope Gaspar can cure Luba! As for the three Duhs...same old stuff!

Jeanne, I hope your ear feels better soon! That happened to me once, too and it is tooo painful to remember! You might need to see your doctor. Becky T

Thanks, Sylvia for the terrific recaps and everyone for the comments and well-wishes. Sylvia, I missed Gaspar cutting Mama down, so thanks for setting me straight.

Becky T, you're right, and if this lasts one more day I am going to the doc. But, I have had it for more than a week and am hopeful that by staying home today it will stabilize my improvement, which was underway. Unfortunately, I had to sit through a board meeting and two back to back professional conferences in Baltimore area with the worst of it. Good thing I was with deaf folks and people who work with the deaf, because I had no voice for two of the days and couldn't hear too well. So, I watched the terps and signed pretty much everything. I had to give two resolutions at the business mtg a week ago and signed them in ASL since I had no voice. I let the terps voice for me. There's a silver lining.

When we lived in Hawaii and I was moving to the Midwest I came over for a week in March 2003 to begin transitioning into this job. I went home to HI with a terrible sinus infection and after numerous flight delays and forgetting to take my third dose of decongestant in Los Angeles, the descent onto Oahu nearly killed me. I felt like a small child, wanting to scream from the pain in my ears. I told hubby to take me directly to the Emergency Room. The ER room doc gasped when he looked in the first ear, and then when he looked in the second one, he called all the people (nurses, residents, interns) to come and look after he asked me if I minded. He told them to all look as they were likely never to "see this again unless you see a basal skull fracture or a scuba diving accident." Alarmed, I asked what it was. I had so much pressure from the fluid and infection that I had bled into both middle ears. He said I was lucky there weren't more serious complications from that much pressure. They gave me some powerful meds and told me it would take a very long time to clear out the gunk from my ears, which now included pooled blood in both of them. It had to dry up and flake out. It was not altogether clear to me how it was going to get out of my middle ear, but it eventually did. Something to do with the structure of my Eustachian tube, which is horizontal rather than diagonal and thus more easily stopped up, like a child's. So, Becky, I know whereof you speak! (Incidentally, two weeks after that and when I still had some congestion in the ears, I had to fly 8800 miles from Honolulu to Germany to pick up my niece and nephew to bring them to HI for two weeks. It was a five day turnaround for me and six planes. I took all precautions to ensure that I didn't have the problem again).

Jeanne (lousy patient and whiny, too)

Thanks Sylvia and everyone else for helping me out. I occasionally have the perfect storm of commitments that keep me from having 2-3 hours to get a recap together. This was one of those times. It's bad enough when the people you report to at work don't understand you have a life outside of work, but then to cut into recapping time? Unacceptable.

Pesky day job, Chris. Those interfere with lots of things.

Jeanne

Thanks for the recap. I did not get to see this episode so I was looking forward to this recap. I am sure that todays episode will just be a epeat though of most so It will be ok. I cannot believe Elias is not going to leave, well I guess I can I expected him to stay. I would love to see something more unexpected. Glad Max decided to use Thelmas cheating ways as his own blackmail, but I kinda thought they could be funny together. Oh well sorry SA doesn't look like you are getting to lucky yet As for Luba I am so glad she is saved and am sad I missed the Angels and all. I am just patiently awaiting for Gasper to fing out his baby has arrived. They have a lot of good promos out on this show that show some pretty godd stuff for this show. If you want to see those commecials I have seen them durng Christina a couple times. They usually show them late night. They actually have the gil that sings the song on and she does the whole song while they show things that have and will happen on the show, so real good. I would say what they ae but do not know if that would be considered a spoiler. If not I will post about the commercial. Anyway this show is moving along in some aspects.

Thanks for saving the day, Sylvia. Ferro, sorry about the real life stuff. I know just what you are talking about. Today was the first day of the summer session I classes. I have 2 classes, including an 8 am speaking class. [What was I thinking ? I hate 8 am classes and try to avoid them.] I was eating breakfast here at the computer , and I got so caught up in catching up on the several episodes of ''Duelo'' and ''Desti'' that I had missed that I lost track of time. Traffic was heavy , and so I raced up the 3 flights of stairs to my room. As I opened the door to the third floor, there were several of my bosses standing just outside my room . I was exactly on time --8 am, but I should have been there a little earlier. [I have lots of bosses who are a lot like AAron from ''Duelo''--they are ''the deciders.'' The good news is that I have 2 women from the Dominican Republic who watch ''Bailando'' and some of the telenovelas, and one of my students is a young accountant from Mexico. Jackpot ! Score !!

Welcome back from Toronto Susanlynn! I recorded Bailando but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

No worries Chris. Sometime's life's committments get pesky. Friday's episode was actually pretty good, but I found the beating of Luba to be very disturbing. On the other hand, I imagine it was a very juicy scene for Ana Martin.

Luba's beating was pretty shocking, but then, that's what they're supposed to be doing--suspending my belief as a viewer. Good scene. Especially Gaspar applying a good, hard lucha kick to each badguy's head and putting them down for the count. Hee-hee...

Thelma has REALLY crosed the line this time. Threating to drop a baby in a river??? She needs to be put down, fast, the way they do rabid dogs. Oy!!

Oops... crossed the line, threatening to drop... (keyboard sticky?) ;-)

I watched tonight and have a sense that the reason Luba was yelling about one day is that the potion she gave the boy was supposed to put him into a coma so he could heal. She is urging Alina to use the potion so she can appear to be in a coma. But it is dangerous. That might be the "one day" concept, that more time was needed for him to heal and come out of the coma-like state. Very creepy medicine, if you ask me....

Jeanne

Stephe, I agree about Thelma and threatening to drop the baby. Aside from being purely evil, she could also have PPD. I vote for evil, though.

Jeanne

I felt bad for Luba during the beating scene, but OMG, how will she ever be able to talk again after all that screaming?! That was disturbing.
Max had no voice last night, I guess Aunt Rebecca's constant harassing made him sick. Or did Angel cough near him?
