La Fea Más Bella #277 5/17/07 Another Star is Born

Part 2 has been added!
Amidst smoke and flashy lights, Luigi presents the star of F.E.O., Inocencio Tenorio (that is, Fern in his nerd outfit), to everyone. Lety comments that Fern seems oddly familiar in that outfit. It’s hard for us to tell because they never show us his face.

Later, in an editing room, Luigi tells Marcia and Omar that Fern asked for some changes to the script and this one is even better than the original.

Now we are at the taping the show’s pilot. As the scene opens, a beautiful woman (the actress that gave the cuartel a hard time yesterday) walks into an office. She tells the guy there (an odd type with a trench coat and dark glasses) that she needs his help because they broke into her safe and stole her... He interrupts to tell her they don’t handle that sort of investigation. They deal with more sophisticated types of cases. Enter Inocencio Tenorio. He’s wearing a slick black tux. The camera moves from his feet upwards, but stops before we can see his face. The woman does see him, which causes such a shock that she faints. The sidekick in the trench coat, Jeronimo, catches the fainting woman. Apparently this is something he must do often. He moans that Inocencio scared ’em again! When he lifts his sunglasses we see that Jeronimo is cross-eyed, which Inocencio attributes to Jeronimo having looked at him (Inocencio) directly.

The cuartel is excited about Fern becoming a famous actor, but Lety explains Fern will only be in the pilot; if it gets picked up, they will get a real actor for the lead..

Lety tells Aldo that Luigi will work all nigh editing, and she if it’s no bother to Aldo, she will stay and supervise.

Fern, Lety, Aldo, Caro, and Marcia all watch as Luigi edits the videotape. They lean way over his head, invading his personal space and making him nervous. Fern tells Luigi he must put up with them or else. Caro remarks that Fern and Lety did a great job with the script. Fern and Lety share a small congratulatory hug, but Lety pulls away and turns to make sure Aldo didn’t get P.O.’ed over it. Fern leans over Luigi again to get a good look. He is practically breathes into Luigi’s ear. Instead of getting mad, Luigi says he might as well relax and enjoy it. This was a sure way to get Fern to jump back and give him space. Fern and Luigi bicker about how much of Fern’s lines to cut out. Luigi calls Fern Sergio Goyri (Don Loco on Duelo de Pasiones, who in addition to acting, is also a writer, director, and producer). Aldo makes an additional editing suggestion and Fern calls him Luis de Llano (T.V. producer, though the only thing I found for him on IMDb.com was Michael Jackson Live in Mexico: The Dangerous Tour ). The bickering continues until Lety reminds them that the important thing is that the pilot turn out well.

Sun rises over Conceptos. The gang is still hovering over Luigi. He finally finishes editing the pilot, which earns him a hug from Fern. Luigi then decides to review the tape of Aurora. Omar runs up and knocks over Fern to get a better view. Everyone, even Aldo, agrees she is a mega-hot babe. Fern adds that she is intolerable and caprichuda (fickle – he added a few syllables for effect).

The Retromode guys show up and they show them the pilot. Jacques hems and haws. He’s not sure how he feels about it. He asks to see a screen shot of the actress in pilot and one of Aurora next to each other. He reviews them and decides he wants Aurora and Fern together in the pilot. Lety, who is standing next to Fern, faints. Fern turns to where Lety was and asks where’s Lety? When he looks down and sees her on the floor, he calls “Lety!” with such concern that I want to say “aaaawh” but I can’t because I’m laughing too hard.

In Lety’s office, PM takes a phone message for Lety from Manuel. As she stands over Lety’s desk, she notices an that an e-mail has come in. For some reason the email opens itself up for PM to view. There’s a weird picture of a hand covering most of the view and someone’s feet in background.

Jacques repeats his request and Lety sways again. Caro explains that Lety is thinking about how difficult Aurora is to work with. Jacques says that Aurora is essential for the show to work. Fern thinks he’s kidding. Jacques says he is very serious -- Aurora and Fern together would be fantastic! Fern insists that he is not an actor. Aldo says that Fern and Aurora would be perfect together. Lety loses her balance again. Luigi wonders if she’s pregnant.

Lola delivers some paperwork to Marcia’s office and sees an email on Marcia’s computer screen. Incredibly, this email has opened itself up too and it has the same pic from Lety’s email.

In the vortex, Sarah and Martha gripe about not having anyone to pick on because Alicia is out. PM and Lola walk in. They have each printed the magical self-opening e-mails and brought them into the vortex for the cuartel’s review.

They read the email from Tomas to Lety first. In it, Tomas tells Lety about his night of passion with his new wife (Ewwh! I know they’re good friends, but come on, Lety does not need this much detail about his honeymoon!). He is excited that Alicia wants to have children right away.
Then they read Alicia’s email to Marcia. It tells of Alicia’s plan to evade her wifely obligations. She has told Tomas that her OB/GYN advised her that in order to ensure an expeditious pregnancy, they should not have relaciones except during her most fertile days. The cuartel think Alicia is a witch for stringing poor Tomas along this way. Um, yeah, she’s terrible – just about as terrible as someone who opens their boss’s personal email, prints it, and reads it aloud to all their co-workers!
Jacques tells the Conceptos team that the project could yield 4 million bucks!
The cuartel wants to tell Tomas about Alicia’s ploy. Irma scolds the for reading the email and tells them to mind their own business.
Fern walks into the vortex and the cuartel take a break from their gossiping. Fern stands amongst them and breathes deeply as he lifts his arms up and slowly turns 360 degrees around (there’s a name for this ballet pose, but I can’t think of it). They wonder if this is his way of expressing his anger. They hold their breaths. Fern stops, looks at them intently, then suddenly yells "We’re getting Conceptos back, and we’re going to be rich!" The cuartel yells too. He promises them all a raise. They all hug and celebrate with silly dancing and a chant of "Woof! Woof! Woof!"
In her office, Lety vents to Marcia about being forced to live a double life. She wishes she could just tell everyone she is Aurora. Caro says she will support Lety if she makes that decision. Fern, Marcy, and Aldo enter the office and announce that they need to write another 5 scripts. Fern cheerfully tells Lety, "ni modo [literally ‘no way’ but here it means ‘oh, well’] Lety, another long night of working together." Aldo steps in, puts his hands on Lety’s shoulders and advises that, actually, tonight Lety belongs to him (I'm sure he did not mean that in a psycho-boyfriend possive way).
In the "Three’s Company" apartment, Fern and Omar bicker about the scripts. Fern says Inocencio’s character has to be different type of hero; he must be enigmatico. Omar notes that woman love a mystery. This makes Fern light up. He says Omar has given him a great idea. Just then Caro and Marcy show up with a pizza.
Over dinner, Aldo expresses how happy that with the new project, since it means the Conceptos debt will be paid off and Lety will free. He has a surprise -- he is working on a new restaurant, which he will call Letizia with a "z" (he pronounces it with Spanish accent: "Letithia" which makes it sound very uppity]. Lety asks Aldo what if Aurora turns out to be a fraud; what if she is hiding her true identity. Aldo responds that in that case he wouldn’t respect her, because he doesn’t like dishonesty. Lety agrees with him, but her expression is shrieking "Yikes!" Aldo adds that he thinks Aruroa could be a good woman for Fern. Lety raises eyebrows reach for the sky!
The boys fall asleep on the couch and Caro pulls the notebook from Fern’s grip. She reads the script title "The Failed Seducers." Marcia covers them with a blanket. Caro asks Marcia if she still loves Fern. Marcia says she does, but now she loves him like a brother. She asks Caro about her crush on Omar. Caro admits that she feels the need to be near him, especially when she sees how he suffers for the diva, Aurora. Marcia warns her against pursuing a man who is preoccupied with someone else.
At home, Lety tells mom and pop says she has something important to talk to them about. She asks what they would think if she changed her appearance. They ask what kind of change she’s thinking about. She nonchalantly answers that she’d like less hairs. Then she adds that maybe she’d like to look like Aurora. Robopop goes ballistic! He asks if she’s forgotten what kind of family she comes from. He warns that if she wants to change, it better be to something very different from that woman Aurora because she (Lety) is a decent girl.
Fern wakes up very achy from sleeping on the couch. Omar starts to wake up but Fern makes shushing noises to lull him back to sleep.
Fern goes to the bedroom, which he now has all to himself. He thought bubbles how he’d love Lety to be here with him. He takes out his man-diary... uh... journal. He writes "My love for you is infinite. I can feel that you love me. Even though I must stay away, as I promised, I still have you in my heart….. I hope true love will win in the end. I abandoned my games of seduction to become a lonely enamorado (one who is in love). Instead of seducing women, here I am writing about love." A tear rolls down his cheek.
The next morning over breakfast, Caro tells Lety that she plans to forget about Omar. Caro then asks Lety if she told Aldo about her second personality. Lety says she tried to but she couldn’t do it. Caro thinks it might be too late to tell everyone the truth. Jacques might cancel the project. Lety pronounces dramatically that she is trapped in the body of Aurora.
In the vortex , the cuartel is busy yakking away when Tomas and Alicia enter. Alicia calls for their attention announces that she demands respect by virtue of being the wife of the vice prez of finance. Smoke comes out of Sarah ears and she snarls that maybe Alicia will get respect when she stops lying about not being able to… Yikes-- the women stop Sarah from saying any more, but she’s already said too much! Alicia and Tomas are impactados!

Looking forward to part II. I am really enjoying Aldo doing everything in his power to keep Lety and Fern from working late. He's never going to get anything but baby talk and sneaking "kisses" at her parents home. Great. Now I feel bad for him! All I really wanted to say is that I like the smiles Fern and Lety are sharing, it makes since to me, story wise, to get them to be friends before they become lover's again. (Atleast that is what I am really hoping for!!!!!) I have no idea why I am up this late....

Lori

Thanks for the recap Alma. I can't wait to see what my Fernie was saying as he cried about his Lety (sigh). I like your line of thinking Lori about Fern and Lety becoming friends first. They are restablishing the fun they had working together and she is becoming more doubtful about her (random and unexplained choice) of Aldo (after accepting Fern's proposal).

Does anyone know if the show is ending on June 15th or 22nd? Thanks in advance.

Karen

In the past few episodes I think I've picked up on the trend of Lety falling in love with Fernando all over again. First she fell for the smooth talking slickster that had her like putty in his hands, but now she's falling in love with him and finding out that he's talented, tender, accepting, and he loves her enough to give her space. And among other things, he's celibate, and only has eyes for her. Ahhh if only novela-land were a real place!!!

hi peoples, w again. I love reading the recaps (like a good novel)and don`t want to be an ingrate, but is there by any chance an episode missing?in the previous ferni was kissing his secret script, in this one they are filming it...love you prople

I love the interaction between Lety and Fernando. Wow, it must be really hard to work so closely with your current and your ex. I thought it was funny when Aldo said he thought Fernando and Aurora would be good together. It seems that he said that twice. He is so right. I know this is probably the second part, but it seems Lety was trying the waters about breaking her Aurora identity to Mama and Papa and Aldo. No one was giving her an inch of comfort in that area, so I assume she'll have to stay incognito. At least now I can better understand why all the secrecy. Aldo really seemed judgmental of Aurora, though maybe its my lack of Spanish. This didn't seem like Aldo's usual character to be so down on someone he really doesn't know. Papa, of course we knew what to expect there.

Too funny that Luigi thought Lety must be pregnant because she kept fainting. I didn't catch that with my limited Spanish. This is why you recappers are so necessary. By the way, thank you for this recap. Doing it in segments works great, too. Looking forward to part two.

That Alicia must have been bragging to Marcia about not sleeping with Tomas in her e-mail. Double insult. Sometimes you just want to choke her. It was funny that the cuartel were actually bored without Alicia to taunt. It's like having your annoying kid sister whom you hate gone and then being lonely.

Lety's outfit last night might not win awards, but I was so thankful that she was out of that horrible teal jacket five times too large. She looked like a linebacker in that thing. Her clothes weren't so bad when she first came back from Acapulco. What happened?

I am so going to be in trouble when this novella and these recaps/comments end. I may be more addicted to reading the recap and comments than the show itself. Reading the recap is the first thing I do when I get to work in the morning (I know, I know) and get my coffee. Maybe we can be gradually weaned off when it's over. I can't imagine going cold turkey of one day no more Fernando and no more recaps. Waaaahhhhh!!!

No, 9:53 there's no episode or recap missing... Fern was kissing his script and protecting it from prying eyes, and then next thing you know, they're shooting the pilot. I'm actually feeling a bit lost, myself!

w - (or anonymous 9:43) You'll find Wednesday's great recap (thankyou, Kris!)at: http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/
about a fourth of the way down the page. I think someone will probably move it over here later.

You'll end up with what's called a "live bookmark." When you click the bookmark, it will give you a list of recent recaps, and then you can quickly locate the one you want instead of scrolling through the big main Caray page.

So, who saw Ugly Betty last night? Angelica's debut (I sure hope she'll come back!) was short, but funny... for those of us in on the joke.

I don't know if the scene made any kind of impression with people who don't know Angelica Vale. That's what I'd really be curious about, but I don't know how to find out.

Gee, I wanted to see Lety on Betty but missed it! I went to ABC but they didn't have it up yet. Maybe I should try tomorrow?

I love a lot of the things they are doing now on La Fea but the choppiness is driving me crazy!!!
I REALLY wanted to see Fern Bond come out of the capsule!!!!!!
Jump, jump, chop, chop from scene to scene, and all is can say is, "wait a minute, what happened?".
Did I blink or get distracted and miss something?

I really hope when it comes out on video they include missing scenes. I feel like half the time I don't know what happened and what's going on.

I was disappointed by Lety on Betty. It was only a few seconds! then i had to wait for the whole of 'fea' to be over so I could watch it from beginning to end!

Pirouette?

I don't remember the exact context, but someone last night joked about Fernando playing an "Agent 86" type. Cracked me up to hear someone invoke my favorite spy from childhood so unexpectedly. :)

It may be choppy but at least it finally seems to be moving. I thought it was odd that Aldo suddenly asked everyone to his house where he would cook dinner since he doesn't really care that all much for them and they all had a million too busy excuses which then left him with the I'll be with Lety alone speech. We know that never came off with her working all night.

She dug herself a hole when she turned herself into Aurora and never let Aldo in on it. His being so judgmental about deception makes sense when you think of his wife and best friend having an affair but now Lety is back in her shell and will never tell him. She also missed the boat when she told her parents she wanted to change her appearance a bit and then cited Aurora as the way to go. That would be too extreme for Robopop and in reality for her in "real" life. It will remain interesting to see how it comes out and how Fern and Omar react since we already know about the other main people in her life.

Very touching scenes in the "Three's Company" apartment. First with Caro and Marcia covering up the sleeping boys and then Fern writing in his diary. IHe makes me cry every time he does it.

Another vote for Lety falling in love all over again with the new improved Fern not that she ever stopped loving the old one.

What a hoot that episode was. What is this new thing they are doing - a role call of galans in every episode. First Sergio Goyri and then Eduardo Santamarina. The actors must all have the same agent or under contract to the same agency. It is absolutely hilarious. I keep listening for whose name they are going to drop next.

So right about the unbelievable actions of the cuartel in reading private e-mails and printing them out for further discussion. Too bad when Fern came out to celebrate the fact that they will be getting Conceptos back and all be rich he didn't add that they would no longer need the group of low class, lazy cuartel members and would, with a new image, be looking for some employees with class. Class in this case not referring to their social standing but to their utter lack of of common decent behavior.

Diane

I still don't get what ALICIA said in the weird feet email. And it was bizarre, almost 'semi-porn'yuck! Can anyone tell me?

Alicia wrote to Marcia that her OBGYN told her she can only have sex when she's ovulating to increase her chances of getting preggers. Tomas was naive enough to buy her story. "More evil laughing"

I was glad to see Lety make some attempt at tell the truth. I still think Aldo will be last to know. It doesn't say much for a open, honest relationship that she didn't let him in on the big secret first. He'll be po'd and not understand why she couldn't trust in him.

She has a lot to learn and in this case just needs to rip off the band-aid fast.

Thanks, Julie. Yes, I think pirouette sounds right!

Cheli, Alicia didn't have any porn worthy stuff in her email, since she claims she didn't have to do anything at all with Tomas. The pic was just Alicia's legs in the background and Tomas's hand covering the rest of the shot.

Was it someone we know playing the role of the bearded sidekick Jeronimo? He sounded a little familiar but I'm not good with faces - especially disguised ones.
Ann

Thanks, Alma. This Jax guy really seems to have an Aurora fixation. Does he know whether or not she can even act? Nice to see some Fern and Lety cute moments in the last couple of episodes. They share this excitement about Conceptos being on the upswing that Aldo can’t relate to. Love the irony of him saying Fern & Aurora would be good together. Love that dress Aurora is wearing in the preview--great print.

Teresa

I wonder if this choppiness has anything to do with the director dying a while back. Things did seem smoother when we knew it was being directed by him. It seems that instead of getting another director they just take turns directing scenes.

I saw Lety on Betty and I was disapointed also with how brief her appearance was. I was hoping she would be a family member.
Donna

Busy weekend ahead... In case I'm not able to watch the whole Ugly Betty episode, can someone tell me where to look for Veronica's scene? Beginning, middle, or end?

I fell off my sofa (laughing) while Fern was warming up.
while the filming was going on that first actor with the mustache, was acting just like fern, who was that?

Jax may have an Aurora fixation but he is looking at the way she appeared and spoke on the commercial. Considering some of the hysterically bad overacting that flares up in novelas no matter how bad she is she can never be worse then some of the things I've seen on novelas. Hey sex sells here and Jax and Omar probably thing aurora can do no wrong in that area.

Ditto about liking Aurora's dress on the preview. Wish I could find one like that.

Roseanna

I just watched Ugly Betty on the computer and was also disappointed. Alma, she's in the dentist office scene. I'm wondering why they even bothered, the scene was so short.

Jaime Camil should wear tight pants all the time on the show! Yes, I know the comment's a day late, sorry, still had to put my 2 cents on on that. Yum!

Kim P.

I wonder if that was Angelica Vale's debut on an english-speaking US network.

I wonder if Jeronomo is the same guy that played the security guard Sara was all over during the filming of the 2 month commercial..mmm...thanks for the tip about alicia's feet email!

Isn't Jeronimo kind of short? (I'm asking - because I'm not good about noticing height.) Sara's security guy friend was tall - taller than Sara. That was part of the attraction. :)

Someone posted this to yesterday's recap - it's a youtube clip of just Angelica's scene from Ugly Betty. The picture's blurry, but the sound is clear. You can hear her struggling with some kind of speech impediment from the braces.

At first I thought they had dubbed her voice because it sounded so different. Then I realized that it's just because I'm not used to hearing her speak English. :)

I noticed too that she sounds so much like Salma Hayek when she speaks english. And not just because they're both Mexicanas!

Lol! just watched ugly betty on abc talk about SAD.Betty has to pull the family together with her father back in mexico.

Lol with Henry leaving when she definately needs him the most this episode was one bad luck followed by another.

*cindy*

I too was so excited about seeing Lety on Bety, but the scene was way too short, and I too thought she was going to be related to Betty in some way. I also thought she sounded just like Salma Hayek! At first I couldn't understand what she was saying because of the braces. Nevertheless, I was still excited to see our girl on american television, but they should have had Jaime Camil in the scene with her as well.

Esther

I saw Ugly Betty, the scenes with AV were too short and I couldn't understand her either with the braces but she does sound like Salma Hayek. I loved the scene with her and Henry in the copy room. Awww.

I think they should have Don Fern appear next showing around a pic of his Lety. That would be cool and funny.

This episode was okay. Don Fern writing in his journal was too said I wanted to cry.

That cuartel now has gotten to reading and printing out e-mails, first it was the reading, sharing and digesting of the "letter" and now its e-mails, is anything sacred?!

oops should read too sad.

I had the impresion that Jeronimo was Jaime Camil also, not because of the face, but because of the voice.... I don't know maybe I'm hearing things

ups!!! forgot to sign

Maricruz

Oh my, that's so ironic that you mention the dress! I saw the preview and had to get a closer look. Hey is she wearing my dress? I said. I actually have one that looks almost exactly the same! How funny!!!

I thought Jeronimo was Fernando in disguise too. Again, he might be too short. Maybe. I suppose all will be explained soon enough. :)

Alma, terrific recap! Great details.... Thanks! Things are very interesting with Fern showing how good he is at writing and Lety coming and going as Aurora. When it hits the fan, who knows what will happen?
