La Fea Más Bella #283 5/25/07 That is what I call a kiss!

That's #281 by Univision's count; 2! 8!! 3!!! hours of pain and delight.

"I promise that Leticia is going to end up with the man she deserves. I promise you that," Aldo assures the cuartel enigmatically. He excuses himself. They ask one another who that is - Aldo, or Fernando? Juana says she'll try to divine this; she closes her eyes and begins chanting.

Meanwhile, Aurora (in orange) and "Inocencio" flirt for the cameras with a tense, subtext-laden conversation about kissing (she even calls him "Mendiola" by mistake!). Luigi decides that talk is cheap and it's time for some action between these two - he wants them to kiss ON THE LIPS! This request catches the two "actors" off guard! They ask, ¡¿QUE?! and freeze! Marcia gestures impatiently, and Luigi snaps them out of it. He says that without a kiss, the show will be missing something. (You said it, Luigi!)

Fern pulls him aside and says absolutely not. Aurora takes Luigi by the elbow and says she agrees - she's not kissing Señor Mongolia. Luigi sympathizes with her for not wanting to kiss Fern, but suggests that she chew some gum or close her eyes and think about... but Fern is tapping him on the shoulder. "Forget it, Luigi," he advises.

Luigi gets emotional and says the project is very important for him. He's put up with all of their mood swings, and he just wants them to kiss. If they don't, he'll quit the show. So there, he can be moody too!

Fern and Aurora call for a time-out and march into their respective corners. Fern goes into his dressing room and tells the mirror that he can't kiss another woman because then he'd be betraying Lety. He takes out his wallet photo and pleads with Lety to understand that although his love for her (still "usted") is infinite, he's just acting. He has to do it for the show, to pay off "Domensolin," and keep things from going bad for his parents.

He reaches into his pocket and holds up his defaced Aurora picture next to his ugly Lety photo. "I can do it, I can do it," he encourages himself, warming up for his scene.

Meanwhile, Aurora is pacing in the hallway, rhetorically asking Aldo (who isn't there) what she should do. She doesn't want to betray him, but if she doesn't do the kiss, this whole Aurora scam will have been for naught. She prays to God for forgiveness.

Luigi is still sulking on the stage with his hands clasped in a prayer of his own when Aurora and Fern come back. Luigi asks Aurora what she's decided. Aurora wants to know who's watching in the booth - the executives? Luigi says yes, everyone - Marcia, Caro, Omar, Aldo... everyone. Nervously (borderline-Lety), Aurora says "If I have to do it, then I have to do it."

"Then I quit!" Luigi squeaks. Then he does a double-take. "You'll do it?" "Yes." Luigi flies off the stage and into the booth, hugging everyone happily. He calls Action.

Fernando asks Aurora to close her eyes and pucker up. He says it's an acting technique he read on the Internet. (And what else have you been reading on the Internet, Fern?) She complies, and when her eyes are closed, he holds up the modified Aurora picture next to her face. (At this point, you should be having flashbacks of Fern and Lety's first kisses, when Fern was using a photo of Paty Manterola for inspiration.)

He puts the picture away while Aurora is still puckered up, and the two sit on the sofa. The spectators in the booth quake with tension. Luigi tells the lighting guy to do his thing. The rest of the stage darkens, spotlighting Inocencio and Aurora. Started, Fern looks up. Aurora STILL has her eyes shut. Luigi cues another lighting effect - floating colored spotlights. Everyone reacts to the beauty of this effect. Even Aldo is hypnotized. Fern notices that some candles have suddenly ignited, and he seems a bit spooked. Aurora asks what's going on. He tells her it's nothing, but he had thought there was a fire.

Choking with emotion, Luigi calls for the moon. Lovely Luna obediently hovers into place over the fake-looking cityscape outside the window. Fern mutters to Aurora about how nasty Luigi's being.

Caro grins in anticipation.

"Forgive me, Lety..." Fern whispers as he haltingly reaches for Aurora. Aurora's eyes snap open in surprise as Fernando's face moves in.

"Kiss her! Kiss her!" Luigi weeps, enthralled yet again with his own brilliance.

It takes about a quarter of a second for the kiss to become seriously hot. Caro beams. Fern and Aurora come to their senses and spring apart with a sound effect. Luigi yells "CUT!" and the two stars run back to their corners.

"It can't be!" Fern tells himself in the mirror. He flashes back to several memorable Fern/Lety kisses. He can't decide whether Aurora kisses like Lety, or if she is Lety. He tentatively decides that she's Lety.

He runs into Omar in the Vortex of Stupidity and gives him a bear-hug. He says he always has Omar to tell his good things and his bad things; his stupid things and his nice things too. He thanks Omar and says "it was her!" Perplexed, Omar asks for an explanation; these guys should know better than to try to communicate difficult concepts in the Vortex. Fern explains that those lips (he pulls Omar's lip playfully) - that kiss - it was her.

Fern doesn't even give Omar a chance to ask. He says it'll be enough if just he and his mother understand. Then he tells Omar in a gleeful voice that it was Lety. "I kissed Lety, Carvajal!" At Omar's astonished reaction, Fern says he was sitting in front of Aurora, but then he clearly sensed that she was Lety. No, he's not hallucinating. He's not losing his marbles. He repeats that yes, it was Aurora, but he felt that it was Lety. It was the flesh of Lety, her aroma, her breath. It was her. (He demonstrates the eye-twitch, just in case Omar's forgotten who Lety is.)

Fern backpedals a bit, saying that it was Lety incarnate. It was a more sophisticated version of Lety. But... but... Fern is clearly confused. He stalks off without letting Omar get a word in edgewise.

Then he comes running back, nearly knocking Omar over with another hug. "Thanks for listening to me, buddy. I love talking with you, and what you say really helps." He slugs Omar on the arm and takes off again.

Back on the set, Marcia is telling Luigi and Aldo how amazing it is that Fern became an actor practically overnight. Aldo laughs and agrees that Fern is a stupendous actor. Omar arrives just in time to hear Luigi saying that the kiss was so real, so sublime... it seemed like Fern and Aurora were in love. Marcia says it was all thanks to Luigi's great directing, as always.

I have just one question. Have these people been slurping peyote martinis out of lead goblets? Garnished with mercury-stuffed olives? I can't tell whether they're hallucinating, brain-damaged, or just plain crazy.

Aldo says he thinks that Fernando wrote the kiss scene with an ulterior motive in mind. Marcia is intrigued by this idea, but Luigi nixes it - nope - he wrote that part all by himself, because he's so creative, to give it that romantic touch.

Meanwhile, Aurora looks in the mirror and touches her lips. "Don Fernando kissed me," she tells herself in her Lety voice. Caro finds her and teases her about the kiss. L'Aurorety tries to pass the whole thing off as acting, but quickly reverts to babbling. "Don Fernando kissed me, Carolina! Don Fernando kissed me!" She worries that Aldo saw her. "I feel awful!"

Carolina reminds her that Aldo doesn't know that his megasqueeze Lety is disguised as Aurora. "But I know it, Carolina! I know I felt bad because Aldo was there." Plus, he saw HOW Fernando kissed her.

Fern parks himself outside her dressing room and asks to come in. For some reason, the women agree that it would be better if Fern didn't see them together, so she haughtily answers, "I'll see you in your dressing room in a minute." Fern leaves, and Caro says she'll go get a coffee. Caro gives Lety a blessing and reminds Lety to call Aldo.

Those crazy kids

Carolina sneaks down the hallway and runs into Omar. He says he heard she was in Aurora's dressing room, which is why I don't understand why she was sneaking. Oh well! She says she was about to go for a coffee. He says okay, and she starts fiddling with her hair. (They are slightly awkward and bashful. And cute.) He mentions that they haven't talked about last night. Caro says right, last night, at her house, when they were together. :-)

Omar asks Caro how she's doing. "Uh, why do you ask?" she asks suspiciously. "Oh, just a question," he replies coolly. "Okay, I'm doing well, many thanks, very nice, I'll go now, excuse me!" And she marches past him coldly. Omar tries to detain her, but only manages to stammer helplessly. Caro answers even more coldly, "See you later, thanks. I've got a lot of things to do." And she starts down the hallway, but before she turns the corner, she hears Omar scolding himself for being an oaf. She pauses, but then keeps walking.

Alone at last, Omar says, "Why didn't you tell her that you like her, that she fascinates you, and her eyes, and her mouth, and you want to be with her again? That you want to be with her forever?"

Why indeed.

Caro has a similar conversation with herself in the next hallway... actually she's just scolding herself for thinking that Omar was going to declare his love.

In the Whirlpool of Insipidness

Alicia is loafing in Marcia's office and bemoaning the end of her little check-forging scam. She finds a magazine article: "Analyze His Handwriting and DOMINATE Him." This gives her an idea, and I'm sure it's ingenious, but we don't get to hear her explain it because Marcia comes in at that moment. Marcia is not pleased to find Alicia there. Alicia invites Marcia to sit... in the guest chair. Marcia protests, and they switch. Alicia says she just needed to be alone so she could think. I think Marcia suggests that Alicia go to the moon to think, but I'm not sure.

Alicia shows Marcia the magazine article and asks if she believes in such things. "Your man's signature can help you discover his potential sensuality and creativity," Marcia reads. She makes a surprised face... but I think it's the "what an idiot you are" kind of surprise.

This is not how the Scientific Method works

Aurora is doing her best to be snooty with Fern, but he reassures himself that it was Lety's flesh, aroma, breath. He grins goofily at the memory. Then he catches Aurora giving him the evil eye, and his smile disappears. He says he has a question for her; he has to ask, because it's driving him crazy. He says, "I kissed you, but I felt that you weren't you, it wasn't you, it was someone else. But it was you." He doesn't sound very sure.

"Who were you kissing?" Aurora asks, struggling to keep her composure. Fern stammers and says he needs to conduct an experiment. He'll have to touch her a little bit. It won't hurt. It's just a little experiment.

She doesn't protest, so he reaches out with his finger and tweaks the corner of her eye! (It's too bad he can't hear the sound effect, because that would give it away for sure.) She continues to stare at him coolly through her other eye!

Four minutes or eight commercials later, he's still doing it. She pushes his hand away and he stammers some more. Her phone rings - I can tell by the dismayed look on her face that it's Aldo, the man who has totally won her heart and makes her happier than any other man on earth. She excuses herself to take the call. While she's gone, he amuses himself by looking at the altered Aurora photo some more.

She takes the call in the hallway and tells Aldo in her sexiest baby-voice that she's been very busy doing things. He's curious as to what sorts of things can be so important that she's never at the office. He was starting to think she might be too busy to answer the phone, too. He says she has no idea how much he misses her.

She flashes back to the Aurora/Inocente kiss on the sofa. "Aldo, I love you. Never doubt it, okay?" He assures her that he loves her too. "Thanks, and forgive me," she says. This makes him curious, but for once he doesn't push it.

She goes back into the dressing room with a pensive look on her face. Fern hurriedly puts the picture away. "Are you okay?" he asks her. "No," she answers quietly. She explains that it's because of love. Fern says he's cried over love too. A love that he himself sullied and betrayed. "What a shame," Aurora says coldly, not meeting his eyes. She suggests that they not talk about it.

He asks if she's very much in love. She turns her back to him, but now she sees him in the mirror. "Does he love you like you deserve?" She has no answer for this either. Fern explains that he deceived the woman he loved, and lost her. He advises her never to deceive or lie to the one she loves, nor let him deceive her or lie to her.

Aurora keeps her own eyes on Lety's and doesn't say a word. Fern excuses himself and leaves. "I'm deceiving Aldo," she finally says out loud. "Every time I become Aurora, I deceive him." She can no longer look herself in the eye. She begins to write on a loose piece of paper.

The Newlyweds Game

Tomas is balancing the books in his orange office. He's wearing an orange and off-white striped shirt. Did I ever mention that orange was my favorite color? He asks himself, "When am I going to pay all these taxes?" He laughs and says maybe it'll be the same day his chica lets him into her bed.

Said chica comes in and tells him he's more handsome today than ever. She puts a folder in front of him and asks him to sign his name. She says that from his signature, she can discover how sensual and creative he is. He is skeptical. She assures him that all the psychoanalysts and architects (yes, she said "architects") in the world are into this stuff.

Tomas relents and agrees to sign. Then he hesitates. He reminds her that he can be sensual, when he's around her. He'd love to demonstrate for her, if she'd just let him. She pushes him away and says that first, he must sign. She hints that it will inspire her. Plus, it's not just about sensuality - it's also about creativity. "But they're the same thing," Tomas argues.

She calls him "little dog's ear," and that almost seals the deal. Almost. He asks her to leave the room so he can sign in private. She complains that he wants to keep secrets from her.

Later, Tomas agonizes alone in his office about the signature. He's afraid that if he signs his name, he'll reveal too much of himself. (Get real, Tomas. She's already seen you naked.) "She could manipulate me!" he realizes. He weighs this against the possibility that it could get him some action with his wife. Still, it seems strange to him.

He looks at the magazine she left. On the one page is an underwear ad with a pretty girl. He reminds himself that he already has a chica, and continues flipping pages. He finds the handwriting analysis article. He decides to beat Alicia at her own game. (See metagaming). For example, the article warns that if a man's letters are too small, just imagine what else might be small! Tomas nods knowingly - they're referring to the size of his intelligence, of course! So he's going to give her a big, big signature.

Alicia comes in just as he's about to finally commit some ink. He jumps up guiltily and says he'll let her know when he's done. She says okay, but she hopes that's before she has grey hair and is walking with a cane. She reminds him to hurry, and gives him his privacy.

Tomas turns back to the magazine article and vows to himself that when she sees his signature, she's going to go crazy with desire.

In the Monster Ladyparts Seashell of Doom Grotto

Fern has changed into a white or possibly pale lavender shirt with a purple tie. Luigi says he's ready to edit the show, and he thinks it's going to be deee-vine. He hints (okay, says) that Fern should give him a lot of money for this. Fern says he doesn't have any and asks why he should give it to Luigi anyway. Luigi reminds him that it was his idea for Fern to kiss Aurora.

"That wasn't Aurora," Fern mutters. He retreats to the batcave, leaving a confused Luigi to ask himself, "My God, who understands those machos?"

Fern finds a note taped to his lamp. It reads, "Forgive me, but I cannot agree to kiss you because I would be betraying the man that I love."

As if Aurora would ever write such a courteous, heartfelt note and then personally leave it in his office!

"Ah, I remember when Lety loved me that way," Fern sighs. "If she loved me like that right now, as much as Aurora loves her boyfriend, I'd be very happy."

(Oh Fern, you dumbass. I love you, but you're a dumbass.)

Clothes make the man

Lety is back. She's wearing sort of an orchid-colored gigantic blazer. She's ready to leave with Aldo, but he has to go to the publisher first and do some Flavor of Life stuff. Lety makes her most childish face (think Peewee Herman) and complains that he's going to see Carmina, aka Stalker Chick. "Of course - my favorite writer," Aldo teases. He kisses her forehead (strangely enough, I don't need a cold shower after seeing this) and he tweaks her chinny-chin and they exchange baby-talks and say goodbye.

Oh - I just realized they're in the Vortex. Well, that never helps.

She goes into the Grotto and finds Fern in her chair, praying to the seashell painting. (Today the pencils are all yellow.) He gets up nervously, but she invites him to keep his seat. She takes the guest chair. He confesses that today, while shooting the program, he kissed Aurora. He didn't want to, but Luigi made him do it. And when he kissed her, he felt like he was kissing Lety instead. Lety hems and haws and says that she doesn't look anything like Aurora, right? He agrees, but he still felt as though she and Aurora were the same person.

Lety decides that this would be a good time to switch seats. I guess it's a magical seat, because it gives her confidence. She goes into Boss mode and tells him to forget about it; it's absurd. He suggests that perhaps he wants Lety and Aurora to be the same person because he misses Lety so much. That's why the kiss clicked. And maybe that's why he's falling in love with Aurora.

Lety warns him that it would go very badly if he were to fall in love with Aurora. He gets up to go back to his batcave. He pauses at Lety's side and whispers in her ear, "Know what? Aurora's not too bad of an actress." (Lety smirks triumphantly.) He adds that it was hard to flirt with her when they were acting, she's not crazy about him. Lety says that's why he should forget about this absurd idea of being with Aurora. (I may have screwed this part up a little - someone correct me if I got it wrong.) Fern says, "They say that from hate, love is born." (That seems kinda backwards too.) He goes to the batcave.

"No, no, no, no!!" Lety says, banging her desk. Fern pops out of the batcave to check on her. She sends him back in and curses that damn kiss with Don Fernando. She repeats that Don Fernando doesn't mean anything to her. Nothing, nothing, nothing. (Who is she trying to convince?)

"Don Fernando. So divine!"

In the Delta of Ennui

In the boys' clubhouse (now sporting all yellow pens, no green ones), Omar plays with a toy on his desk, moping. Fern plays with some other trinket and finally flings it at Omar to get his attention. Fern invites Omar to open up and cry on his shoulder, if necessary.

(I would like a poster of this.)

Omar says he doesn't understand Carolina. They were together the other night, it was marvelous, and now not so much. Fern says maybe she doesn't feel the same way as Omar. Omar says he knows when he's with a woman, if he has satisfied her... Fern says "Me yes... you, I don't know." Omar says he knows, too. And he needs to know why Carolina is being so indifferent to him now.

Fern says Omar's wasting his time asking him... he should ask Caro instead. Omar is horrified by the prospect of having to make himself vulnerable to her. Fern says there isn't another way to find out what's in a woman's heart. Unless he wants to read seashells or something. (Well, Juana will be happy to do it for him, if he wants!) Omar says he's an expert at seducing models and dancers, but in this case he doesn't know what to do. He's never felt this way inside before. It hurts.

Fern laughs and says maybe Omar has gas! "I've never had gas! - uh, that is, I've never had to confess this to anyone." In fact, when he explained himself to Aurora, she took off. "I'm an amateur," he says.

Fern firmly says that if Omar doesn't say it, he's not going to find out.

The Return of the Cuartel

Lety tells PM that she's going to see Aldo - he wants to show her something. Away she goes. Martha tells the cuartel she feels like having a sandwich. Sara scolds her and says they only ate two hours ago. "That long?" Martha answers in horror. Her innards have been churning with hunger. PM and Lola worry that it's abnormal, and urge her to go to a doctor. She says she's not sick. Sara says if she keeps eating all the time, she'll become sick. Martha says there's nothing more healthy than eating. "Not to excess," PM says. "Fine - if you see me overdoing it, warn me," Martha says.

"You're overdoing it!" they chorus. Martha makes a face. Sara says it's a waste of their time to worry about her. She's a lost cause. PM agrees. They begin to disperse. Then Martha doubles over. They all rush back to her. She admits that she just had a stomach cramp (retortijón) - but it was just a little one. They offer to take her to a doctor, but she wants to finish her sandwich! They take it away from her, but she demands and takes it back.

Let's not forget the client

Marcia meets with Jacques at RetroMod. She updates him on the TV show and says Luigi's editing it now. She asks how he wants to promote it. (Jacques grabs a piece of paper and yellow pencil. Seriously, no pens in any office in Mexico city?) He wants to create a lot of buzz for the show's premiere. He wants to raise people's expectations as high as possible. She tells him to watch what they come up with.

At Carolina's

Carolina mopes and wonders why she feels so strongly for Omar. She thinks about how much she likes him, and picks up the phone. Then she changes her mind and throws it on the couch. She does a little impression of Omar saying "Carolina, you know that you and I are good friends."

"I'm an idiot. I can't fool myself about Omar," she tells herself.

More words of wisdom

Omar visits Fernando in the batcave. Well, no, actually he just walks into the batcave, looks at Fern, then walks out. Hey - someone should let Carolina know that this is how Omar is behaving around everyone these days.

Omar comes back in, takes a deep breath, and says "Okay, suppose that you're right and I tell Caro what I'm feeling; to show her my love I would have to bring her a gift. But what can I give Carolina to tell her how happy she's made me, how she's made me feel?"

Hmm. Interesting question, Omar. Let me remind you of some of the gifts you gave Fern to give Lety: Stuffed animals, some of them creepy-looking. Candy. Mushy cards. A pot of tulips.

Omar can't hear me. Or can he? Here are the ideas he shares with Fern: Flowers. Teddy bear. Chocolates. Maybe take her to the movies...

Fern sits there mutely. Omar thanks him profusely. He grabs Fern's hand and hauls him up for a big hug. He thanks Fern for his helpful words and leaves.

Fern asks himself if he could be falling in love with Aurora.

Filler scene

The cuartel (including a rejuvenated Martha) gather around Luigi and ooh and ahh as he edits the show. They get too noisy and he tells them to return to their caves, but Juana wants to see this particular scene one more time. He refuses and sends them away.

Oh, just sign it already

Saimon and Celso are now assisting Tomas with the complicated project of creating a signature that will knock Alicia off her feet. Saimon says that Tomas will have to make the letter P very round. (There's no "P" in Tomas Mora.) The X (also not in Tomas's name) should be large and square. Tomas points out that he needs to know how to make his T and his M. Celso takes the magazine away from Saimon and says he can't find those letters.

"Oh no, that can't be! I need them to write my name!" Tomas takes the magazine from Celso. Celso and Saimon laugh. (I'm guessing this is the same joke as "the word 'gullible' isn't in the dictionary. Ha-ha, made you look!") They tease him and make fun of his task. Tomas explains why it's important to him. Celso and Saimon are surprised to hear that Tomas and Alicia have not had any hanky-panky yet. Tomas backpedals and claims that they have done stuff, but... he gets flustered and kicks them out. "It's a true scandal," Saimon and Celso repeat to one another. They are in a highly confused state and you just know this is going to end up in a distorted mess by the time it gets to the cuartel.

Tomas sits down with the pen and, after a few more false starts, lets it sink slowly down towards the paper...

Goody goody gumdrop!

Aldo is preparing to give Lety a big surprise. Don't worry, it's nothing gross. It's just a photo... of a honkin' big yacht. He wants to have their wedding on this yacht.

Lety loves it. They then share their first serious kiss since Acapulco. (I just noticed Lety's little curlicues in front of her ears. They used to be slicked-down sideburns. When did she get rid of the sideburns? I never noticed until tonight.)

Unfortunately for Aldo, Lety is not any more focused on Aldo than I am on the kiss. While I'm thinking about her sideburns, she's thinking about Aurora and Inocente swappin' spit on the sofa in front of cameras and the executive staff of Conceptos. She realizes what's happening and pulls away from Aldo in shock.

"My love, what's wrong?" Aldo asks cluelessly.

Is it just me, or is this getting really weird?

Comments:
Julie, I first noticed the curly cues when she chose Aldo & kissed him in front of that fountain. This episode seemed long to me, but the kiss was worth it. I really hope Fernando doesn't fall in love with Aurora. He's been so good at being faithful to Lety. Also, did anyone else notice that Aurora took that piece of paper from what looked like Fernando's journal? I thought she was going to read it.

Esther

w again This is a weird request at this point of the game, but there is no recap of the episodes where luigi and ferni had the bet and f ended up in a pink feather dress, which happens to be the point where I got hooked...a guy who remains so hot in drag that the earth smokes where his feet touch it is worth looking at anytime. If the rest of the show is funny well, so much the better. Any ideas where I could find it, or which date so I can find it on utube? Thanks and have good fun

Esther,
I don't think the paper came from Fern's journal since his is black and I think the one she took it from was green.

Julie,
Could Fern have meant "her" mother (meaning Julieta should be the other one to know Lety is Aurora) instead of "his" mother (wondered why Helmut-hair would care)?

Thanks Julie! Your recaps (and funny comments!) really add another dimension to my understanding of these episodes. I understand some Italian so can somewhat follow along but unfortunately, I never took Spanish (although nearly a year of LFMB has helped).
LAURA

Great recap! I wasn't watching way back when so I truly appreciate your telling us Fern had to use a picture of a great beauty in order to be able to kiss Lety when he was first trying to seduce her. What a lovely touch, then, this scene was... I love the BOING sound when they separate. I would think anybody who'd thought Aldo would end up with Lety would realize by now it won't happen (this is NOT a spoiler, simply an observer's guess!) and what a nice guy Fern has become... Omar is funny, still a high-school kid ...

I have to MUTE when Alicia comes on she's made me tan furiosa.

That was the "kiss" heard around the world. Before Fernando kissed Aurora, he said," perdoname Lety". This scene has got to be one of the best of this novela so far.

Aldo,I wouldn't make a deposit on the honeymoon yacht quite yet..Could be going alone.

Are there people here commenting who are not aware that Lety is Aurora? The look on Lety's face when Fernando said he had feelings for Aurora is priceless..

Yes, in agreement on the Tomas and Alicia saga..They have all of a sudden become the main characters here..I just switch the channel when they are on. Enough of them already.

Yes Julie, what a kiss!!!!!!!!!!
I watched it very carefully (and enjoyed it very much), and decided that it is Fern and not Lety who is the great kisser.
Lety is a good receiver but it is Fern who has the skill and all the great moves.
Could we please replay that at least a thousand times and eliminate Alicia and Tomas altogether????????

Thanks so much,
Carrie L.

Isn't it interesting how Fern and Letty are still addressing each other as "Usted" while Fern and Auroura switched over to "tu" while talking in the dressingroom??
(And thanks so much for the recap, Julie!)
Ann

Brilliant recap, Julie, as always. Thanks... I have to admit that when the "extension" first started, I was so fed up with the emotional manipulation that I ran straight to YouTube & watched ahead as far as this episode (Jan 31, per YouTube). It became my sole reason for hanging in there to the end with this novela.

And you're right, Carrie, I figured out long ago that Jaime & Angie have such amazing kissing chemistry because each has a very specific role in the kiss; she's basically passive & he's definitely in the driver's seat. And frankly, there's no better "driver" out there. It all works like a beautifully choreographed dance, one that we can't get enough of! Kind of makes one misty thinking that if his screen kisses are so skillfull, what must the real deal be like?!?!?!

And how funny, the things we notice; Lety's "sideburns" actually started becoming softer on & off after she came back from Acapulco. Fern started using "tu" with Aurora shortly after they met, which I did find weird. Tomas & Alicia: enough already. I suspect Tomas will get to the brink of leaving her & she'll wise up & realize how much she cares for him.

What I am really enjoying is the parallelisms that they're putting Fern through; the writing in the diary, the use of the modified photo to inspire his kiss with Aurora, the suffering Fern has been through. Still, I can't believe how awful I feel whenever I see Fern cry. Colunga may reign as the King of the Novela & I'd watch him read the phone book, but in my eyes, Jaime Camil is an incredibly rare, multi-faceted talent that I hope to see explode on an international level (if that's what he wants, of course. :-) Congrats, Kris, for being in the Cristina audience. I think I'd have had to prepare myself with a buen tequila beforehand to keep calm during the taping! Thanks again, recappers, for all you do.

W from Greece: Sorry, nobody here was recapping during the bet between Fern and Luigi. However, you might be able to find a recap on another site (likely in Spanish). Also, if you ever saw the original Colombian series, that segment of the novela was almost exactly the same, along with Alicia's pregnancy/blackmail attempt, and the joke where Martha was wearing knockoffs of Alicia's designer dresses every day as a joke.

Laura: I think you're right about Fern referring to Lety's mom, and not his. I'll check again and fix it.

ExportRed: Why do you think that there are people commenting here who don't know that Aurora and Lety are the same person? It's shown pretty clearly in the episode and it's been made clear in the recaps... plus I haven't seen any comments that indicate confusion.

But, just in case there IS confusion: yes, Lety is Aurora.

Okay, I double-checked. Fern did say "mi mama" and not "su mama." He was definitely not referring to Lety's mom. Which is too bad, really, because I'm sure Julieta would love to hear about it!

Thanks, Amanda. And no, it’s not just you, this is definitely getting weird!
Fern and Aurora discussing love, Lety leaving that Aurora note for Fern, Fern talking about kissing Aurora with Lety, Fern seeming to have it figured out, then he asks himself if he could be falling in love with Aurora? HUH?? I don’t want Fern to be a dumbass.
Let’s hope he gets it straight in the next couple of episodes. Lety herself seems quite confused. But I did love the kiss. Nice to have a bit of the magic back. It was so sweet how Fern whispered “forgive me, Lety”, right before the kiss. My only complaint was they cut to Luigi right after that, then back to the kiss. The fake moon was so cheesey. Speaking of cheesey, I hate that thing Aldo does with Martha, pointing at his eyes, then at hers. It’s like something a guy at a single’s bar would do right before he comes up to you and asks you what your sign is. Can’t see Lety getting married on a yacht. Where do you park a yacht in Mexico City, or I guess they are supposed to get married in Acapulco? Wasn’t she in a sea-sick panic that time she went on Aldo’s boat? When Marcia was meeting with Jacques I thought, maybe these 2 could be a couple?

Teresa

Teresa - I, too, wondered about the possibility of Marcia with Jacques. He's pretty cute - albeit a bit old for her??
Ann

ok, i don't get it, does Ferni KNOW it's lety or does he think Aurora is a different person but really like lety inside?? it's like lucy ricardo with a fake mustache!

Thanks for the recap Julie. You had many priceless moments but for me your best line was "Her phone rings - I can tell by the dismayed look on her face that it's Aldo, the man who has totally won her heart and makes her happier than any other man on earth." Thank goodness I was not drinking anything when I read that b/c it just would have been ugly.

Teresa and Ann - I briefly thought about Marcia and Jacks but he's too close in age to Don Humberto. Maybe they'll have the guy she hated (Fern's friend), who is her real life husband, come back and sweep her off her feet.

The kiss was a nice touch but I'm concerned these next (and last) three weeks might get really painful before they get really good. Aurora's death... Until our couple is reunited, if the focus is on Fern (but happy or silly Fern not anguished Fern with tears), Omar/Caro, I can hang. Like the rest of you Alicia/Tomas, MAKE IT GO AWAY! (What am I going to do when I can't watch this using my DVR so I can fast forward through those scenes? Hello mute button).

Marie Celeste - I agree with you. I love Colunga as well. But in this role Camil has been fantastic. He can swing from serious to silly in seconds flat. He reminds me of Pierce Brosnan in "Remington Steele." I can't wait to see what Camil is in next.

I really enjoy how this blog allows us to see this show with all these great people. And share laughs, tears, ideas, random thoughts and screaming at stupid plot line together.

Karen

When Marta said to Aldo, "do you think Lety will wind up with Fernando?"!!! Hysterical!!! It reminded me of when my aunt gets drunk at family dinners and says something inappropriate!

Cheli - I think Fern's heart knows that Aurora is Lety, but his brain won't let him believe it!

Cheli, the way I figure it, Fern doesn't KNOW yet for sure that Aurora is Lety, but he FELT that he was with Lety when they kissed, and that's what thrills him. Talking to himself in the men's room after the kiss, he said, "I think Aurora kisses like you, Lety, or did I kiss YOU?" Then in talking to Omar after, he said he knows it was Aurora in front of him, but he "felt" Lety, in her breath, her aroma. He knows it was Aurora in the scene with him & now had to figure out why he could feel Lety when kissing her.

Karen, aside from the fact that he sings, dances & is a fantastic comedic actor, my estimation of Jaime really shot up after seeing his last film, "7 Dias". If you haven't seen it, he's fantastic. His role is so different from Don Fernando - very menacing, but with touches of humor - and he's absolutely spot on with it. The only downsides to the film are no subtitles, and quite a bit of profanity. However, I looked at as an opportunity to broaden that aspect of my vocabulary. ;-)
Besides, somehow even the obscenities sound beautiful in Spanish!

And I loved when Ferni twitched her eye! they're such goofballs together!

Not a spoiler..but for those who wonder if Fer knows Aurora is Lety..well remember I said he is not the brightest bulb on the marquee...Yeh he wasn't that bright to start out with...but they really dumbed him down since the beginning of the TeleNovela...maybe to explain why no matter what..Aldo gets there first.

Has that fool Tomas no pride or sense now two more men know about his intimate life. Ugh creeps me out whenever it starts. I too channel switch and now it is starting to cost me money on QVC but I'm getting some nice jewelry - so there Alicia!

Omar is priceless. Mr. Seducer who had all the ideas about how Fern should woo Lety and suddenly when it's him he goes clueless. I think he'd be making a big mistake if he shows up at Caro's with a sack full of stuff since she knows how he acted in the Lety seduction. Just show up with a rose and TELL her how you feel. Oops not close enough to the end so he will have to suffer and we can have more of those great scenes with him and Fern talking AT each other and thinking they are getting good advice.

Fern has it figured out vis-a-vis Lety/Aurora but doesn't really believe it but he is probing Lety to try and get her to admit the truth. In reality I do think he is falling a little bit in love with the Aurora side of Lety, the vampy flirt which should become part of her total personality once she realizes she can be both women.

I thought the paper she picked up was from Fern's journal and it surprised me that he didn't recognize her handwriting on the note or wonder how Aurora knew the batcave was his office. Then again no one on this show seems to recognize handwritings. Maybe they all just print.

Lety does have to kill Aurora because after seeing that kiss Aldo's jealousy would be insane. She couldn't lie her way out of it like she does everything else because even in the booth everyone must have caught the hotness and the real feeling.

I'm just so sad to see this end. It's my 1st novela and I really became obsessed (more than I care to admit). I know the story had become some what idiotic since Lety returned from Acapulco, but I don't care. At least every night we had some screen time with Fernando. I think the basic theme was his redemption. I almost don't care about Lety at this point, which is the writers fault and not Angelica's. Here's another trivial point, wouldn't Lety's parents what their one and only daughter to be married in the church? Is it not presumptuous of Aldo to be planning a wedding on a yacht, without consulting the bride? I will miss all my fellow obsesionadas, thank you so much everyone.
Miranda(with a tear in my eye, really)

decie girl - You mention recognizing Letty's handwriting. How about someone recognizing her HANDS? I would think that would be the first thing Fern or Aldo would spot. (I know, I know - it's a novela - we must suspend disbelief.)
Ann

Ann,

Hasn't Aurora always worn gloves? In any event even people who know her well don't expect to see fea Lety glammed up like Aurora so they miss the obvious things. Fern got close to the reality with her smell and feel but she is going to have to give it away by speaking in her own voice or pulling off the wig before anyone will get it.

Can anyone tell me the song and the singer
that we heard when Fernando remembered the kiss?
I love the song but have been unable to find
out what it is. Nobody but nobody can kiss like
Don Fernando.

I'm glad someone else mentioned they have never watched telenovelas before and are almost embarrassed at how hooked they've become.
That's my situation...I seldom watch t.v., have never watched soap operas, and here I am, begging off appointments etc. because I'm afraid my recorder won't work and I'll miss a precious episode.
Scary.
Part of it is Don Fernando and his incredible kisses...obviously my love life is missing these days. The other is this marvelous site and just wanting to share the experience with a raft of new, very funny, witty friends.
Doubt that there will be another experience like this one...but hasn't it been a wild, wonderful ride?!
Judy B.

Anonymous 3:35 - The song is "La Dueña de mi Vida", sung by Angels. Here's a link to their debut on LFMB. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMolXbSCw9g

Thanks, Marie Celeste. I watched that and it brought back lots of memories. Another short video that I love is from that same period of time in the story:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8X3Ki5RCfU

Ann

Thank you so much Marie Celeste. I haven't gone to
that site yet. LFMB is my first telenovela - have been
learning to read some spanish from it. Now I'm
watching Destilando Amor - Dame Chocolate and
Accorolado. I really love you guys on this site.
I enjoy the recappers immensely because I miss so
much and they are so entertaining, but I love
all the people that post. You're all so helpful and
caring. Thanks again. These telenovelas have taken
over my life but I love them. The mothers in them remind me of my grandmother with the little altars and candles and praying for their children and grandchildren. How I miss that. My grandmother was Italian and the Mexican mothers remind me so much of her. Thank all of you

Isn't Lety a nice Catholic girl? How come her parents didn't say anything when aldo mentioned getting married on the beach and not in a church? they're totally catholic! and the same to getting married on a 'yate'!!! for some reason, he's really buggin' me hard!!

wasn't it ann odd cut, when they went from the phone call tomy grabbed and Alicia was all afraid it was either the bank or her papi - but they never told us what it was!

Ooooh, Ann/Anon. 5:16... I checked out that link &...BOO HOO!!! I have that episode saved for posterity's sake, but I get so torn up watching Lety suffer as she reads that letter that I can't stand to watch it! That song is PERFECT under that scene, though.

I have a translation/vocab issue from Thursday night's show. Just before the very end, Fern, Luigi & Marcia were on the set waiting for Aurora to return. Fern was saying to Luigi that if he thinks Aurora will live up to their expectations, he's in for disappointment. Fern: "Hasta crees que va a actuar, la diva? Te vas a quedar (then something in English that I'd swear was "swimming ass")", which he appeared to translate to Spanish as "anonadado", which means crushed/disappointed. Did he really say "swimming ass"? If so, where do I send my application for a job with Televisa as consultant in English vernacular?

I say Jaime should open a kissing school.
Whoever the woman/girl was who taught him should pat herself on the back!
Omar is pretty good too, but Aldo just doesn't have it. At least in my humble opinion!

Only three more weeks???
I don't think I'm ready to give it up! I'm hoping they will start reruns in the USA.
Does anyone know if that is planned?

Carrie L.

Carrie,

Reruns in the states are very rare and when they happen it is usually in the middle of the night so I wouldn't be counting on seeing LFMB very soon. Also when it happens it is usually on Univision's cable or secondary outlet which is Galavision. Years ago I had been watching a novela that ran 11 months but left the country on vacation before it ended. The friend I had taping it screwed up the final episode but a year later someone mentioned it was on Galavision and taped the final episode for me. This was just when the forums were coming into vogue so I was stuck in a lather for months. I'm even planning to double tape the last week of LFMB in case one of my recorders goes ape and doesn't get it for me.

Add me to the group who found it odd that Erasmo and Julieta made no comment about a church wedding. I know that in some cases people will have the civil ceremony and then wait for months or years before the church ceremony but I can't see Julieta going for that. Maybe as we get closer to the actual wedding there may be protests. Even Lety hasn't said anything which just reinforces my conviction that she isn't totally sure of her decision especially when she thinks of Don Fern being tan divino.

I love the Aurora storyline, always have, (except for that damn hair color!!!!) and these last 2 episodes have been the best ones I've seen of the show. Of course, I didn't start watching until Fern jelously followed Tomas and Lety all those many months ago. At any rate I am thoroughly entertained and am so glad to have this forum to share with other crazed fans of this show. This is also my first novela but it will not be my last. I'm planning on visiting mexico after finishing my Massage Therapy program, this novella has influenced my love of Spanish so MUCH. The food references are my personal favorites! Where else could I have found out how to call someone a mustachioed corncake? Not that I will! Thanks for the always great recaps Julie

Lori

I love this show. This is also my first novela.I started watching in Nov, and have been hooked ever since. My spanish is limited, but it has been getting much better. I happened to trip upon this site in February, and I really want to thank the recappers for filling in the gaps. You are doing a great job, and I feel good knowing that my spanish understanding has gotten much better. I am going to miss this show when it is over. I hope that Fern & Lety get back together, and that they do not pair Marcia with the old goat. She deserves better. Tomas needs to get a spine, and put the gold digger in her place. Oh well, this is TV land. Good question, about Lety's handwriting. I hope that Fern wakes up real soon, and why didn't Lety read his journal????

Yes, Jaime and Fernando Colunga are neck in neck.
In fact, I am grateful for FEA because it permitted me to see that there really ARE other incredibly SEXY men besides Colunga. Since I started watching Destilando, I have also become enamored of Eduardo Yáñez--goodness que cuerpazo!
Though I have been watching telenovelas for the last 4 years, FEA is my first comedy and I am so sorry it is ending because it's really nice to watch an egrossing show with tons of laughs, lots of serious romance but no killing and no genuine villians.Terrific combination. I wonder if there are any other comedies coming up...

Is the new telenovela----Yo amo a Juan Querendon--replacing FEA? Anyone heard whether it's supposed to be good? AND....
Just heard the death knoll this week for DUELOS--"ULTIMAS SEMANAS" Does anyone know how many more weeks?

This is my first post, and am going to miss everyone when this is over.

I decided I was going to learn spanish this past summer. I do a lot of driving with my job so, since then I only listen to spanish learning tapes, spanish radio, or spanish music. Then I thought I could learn more by watching spanish TV. I recorded something else for a while, but never had a chance to watch. Flipping channels one day, my husband said if I was going to make him watch spanish TV that La Fea Mas Bella looked better, so I started recording it.

My husband had to leave for a week after Thanksgiving, so I binged and watched the 20 -30 episodes I had recorded, which brought me up to just before the "Letter".

I had never even knew what a telenovela was, and got (and still am ) soooo addicted to LFMB.

By Christmas I found Caray, Caray and am so grateful to all the recappers and posters. I read all the recaps from the beginning.

I am amazed at how well I can follow the gist of the story,(probably due to the great acting)and turned of the captions as they were distracting, but turn them on when I really want to catch the words.

I read this blog everyday. I have even mostly quit watching "Days", my soap for the last 35 yeaars or so. (Yes, that puts me in the over 50 club, that thinks Fernando is so hot!) I have even dreamt of him.
(Am I sick?)

I "YouTubed" to this "KISS" and decided I had "YouTubed" too far. I only watched this episode once and did not notice the alterations to Aurora's picture that Fern had made.

I am glad that we are getting back to Fern, and Lety's chemistry, and the story line is moving. The last couple months I have had a love hate relationship with LFMB.

Is it out of the realm of possibility that Marcia and Aldo could get together?

Again, Mucho Gracias to all!

Patty B. Utah

P.S. I really hope I can get into another telenovela after this is over. I did purchase LFMB, and yo soy Betty la Fea, which will take me quite awhile to get through.

I just saw this little advertisement for Juan Querendon (with Lety and Aldo and Fern - Juan is quite a bit taller than Fern!) and it's adorable:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOJvSATOP9Y

oy va boy.

Here's the opening sequence. More oy va boy in my opinion:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVD2KGrCnI0

Also music is great.

Yo Juan has lead actor Santamaria(not sure of spelling of his last name, long time boyfriend of Susanna Gonzales of many novelas and the dancing for the wedding of your dreams finalist,I believe..)

Colunga? Handsome, but way too short. Jaime(Fern) & Augustin,Omar (not sure of the correct spelling of his name either) are two of the tallest men on the novelas. We just grow big men & women here in USA,maybe it's unfair to look at stature..

pardon me but whtt is the difference between usted and tu???

Usted is more formal, more 'polite' I guess, and tu is like between buds, family,..and lovers of course! By the by, I LOVE Aurora's hair color, it's so fabulous retro!

I don't think Aurora is wearing a wig. It looks like Angelica died her hair.

If someone was addressed by tu instead of usted, would it be offensive?

depends where you are, in spain they rarely us Ud. and they 'tutear' practically everybody - i think mexico is a little more formal, and with a boss or someone you are meeting for the first time it's better to stick to Ud. Once, in my family, my mother refered to a "cousin-in-law" with Ud and her sister really got on her case. Said she was treating him like a stranger, not family!

The whole Usted Tu is a land mine for people trying to understand the language. My husband who studied in Mexico told me that basically you use usted for non family and non close friends. Tu is used for family and close friends but also for people in an inferior social position, while they have to refer to you as usted.

I watched one novela where the hero told the heroine who was the mother of his son but who he was on the outs with and had haired to work as a maid that she was always to refer to him as Usted while he went on calling her Tu. He went so far as to correct her when she slipped. In any event when in doubt I use Usted.

Funny how many of us stumbled on novelas by accident. I had read about them in the newspaper as a snotty reference to Spanish language soaps and how cheesy they were. Naturally I had to channel surf to see what they were talking about. I discovered Sirena with Carlos Montilla. Wow! Handsome and he had a great body and even sang the theme song. The story was screwy, I was midway in, couldn't speak the language but I was hooked. I followed it up with Maria Mercedes with the divinely talented Arturo Peniche. I've never looked back. I came to realize yes some novelas were stupid and cheesy but there were lots of staggeringly talented actors, beautifully filmed shows and interesting stories. Some are short, my shortest was 4 months and some can be horrifically long (usually an awful show like Dos Mujers Un Camino) which ran 2 years but all novels have an end and all show character growth, and have a moral, evil doers get punished and good people find happiness. People that make fun of them or us for watching them don't know what they are missing.

Diane

I stumbled across my first novela in the seventies (over 30 years ago) when I was studying Spanish. I didn't know anyone else who watched them and this was before there were vcr's so when I went on a trip I set a tape recorder up and had my father turn it on every night to record it that way. I thought the novelas were just like American soaps (never ending) so I was in shock one night when the heroine got into a bad car accident. The camera zoomed in on her face smashed against the windshield and a great big "FIN" came out of nowhere and filled the screen. I'll never forget that scene - although I've forgotten the name of the novela.
Ann

The first view I ever got of a telenovela (it was before Univision got added to the bottom-level cable around here) was at a local restaurant. I happened to look up as somebody was lying in a straitjacket in a padded cell and a nun was stabbing this person to death. My thought: "WHAT??????" - now I would not be fazed at all...

Julie, thanks for the terrific recap! As always, it’s a diverting way to spend time!

“Have these people been slurping peyote martinis out of lead goblets? Garnished with mercury-stuffed olives?” ROTFL! They were over the top tonight, weren’t they? Especially Fer.

“Omar asks Caro how she's doing. "Uh, why do you ask?" she asks suspiciously. "Oh, just a question," he replies coolly. "Okay, I'm doing well, many thanks, very nice, I'll go now, excuse me!"” Sigh. Will they do goofy stuff before they settle down? What a question. We know the answer. Of course they will!

Alicia and the handwriting analysis: sheesh. Will she ever give up trying to squeeze more pesos out of Tomy? What a question. We know the answer. Of course she won’t!

“She doesn't protest, so he reaches out with his finger and tweaks the corner of her eye! (It's too bad he can't hear the sound effect, because that would give it away for sure.)” LOL! I thought for sure Lety was busted as soon as he did that.

I won’t miss Lety’s baby voice when she talks to Mami or Aldo. That’s on my last nerve right now.

“Tomas is balancing the books in his orange office. He's wearing an orange and off-white striped shirt. Did I ever mention that orange was my favorite color?” Only every time that Fern wears his Nemo-striped tie.

“Aldo is preparing to give Lety a big surprise. Don't worry, it's nothing gross.” LOL! You had me there for a minute.

Exportred—“Aldo,I wouldn't make a deposit on the honeymoon yacht quite yet..Could be going alone.” LOL! That’s such a goood point. Too bad you couldn’t go to see the Cristina program. I wondered if you’d be able to go when we brought it up before. I wasn’t able to go, either. Last week of school and all.

Marie Celeste, I hope you’re right about Tomy and Alicia. If I were he, I would be gone by now.

Ann and Teresa—my husband is 15 years older than I am, and it’s great, so I think Marcia and Jacques would be a very nice match for each other.

Carrie, if Jaime Camil opens a kissing school I’m going for extra credit.

Patty B., you’ve been reading LFMB on Caray! Caray! since Christmas and just now are posting? Welcome! (I am wondering how you could contain yourself so long! What great self-control!)

Anon 2:53, it depends on the context of the use of the tu vs. Ud. One of our pastors just came from Mexico for a new ministry and I asked him. He told me that in some parts of Mexico, it is considered the height of rude even for children to call their parents anything except Ud. He said you can go wrong with tu, but you won’t usually offend with Ud. unless you say it with derision on purpose to a close friend or something. I was grateful because I forgot the verb declensions for tu and vosotros, so using Ud. and Uds. is much easier.

Jeanne

OK, I can deal with the change of clothing, wig, makeup, voice etc. etc., but what about the BRACES? How on earth does Lety get them on and off in order to play Aurora? Was this explained in an episode that I missed or are we expected to suspend an extraordinary amount of disbelief?

--Agnes

Food for thought. I don't know how anyone can think that La fea mas bella is a comedy. The whole thing is about lety and fern and it is by no means comical. It is intense. Constant tears intermingled with passion. At times it is traumatic??? this has been so intense for me that I tape it and then fly through the tense parts, such as lety kissing aldo ir being hugged by him or him up in her face real close, etc.

(a) It was a comedy when it started out; (b) nobody got murdered. That's unusual for a telenovela.

Thanks for the links Melinama. They were really cute.

Exportred - Is Colunga really that short? I read that he was 6 ft and he was standing next to American actors who were close to that height. And one of the things I love about Jamie and Agustin aside from their looks and comic timing is their height (for me the definition of a handsome man includes him being tall - at least 6 ft. Men who are height challenged are usually just cute to me).

Karen

I replayed part of Thurs and Fri this morning (to get a little Fern to tide me over until tomorrow nite) and you are correct, Marie Celeste, he did say “swimming ass.” Maybe one of the writers tried using babelfish. ?? Thanks also for your youtube link. I checked out the Juan Q you tube thing as well. Since I am shallow, the first thing I thought was, he should lose the mullet! Yikes! Aldo has the 70’s hair and this guy has the 80’s hair. If Lety makes up some story about Aurora being dead, she is going to make her co-workers feel bad. Don’t know how she is going to get herself out of this one.

Teresa

Melinama. Thanks so much for the links! Lety's dream with Eduardo, Jaime, and Juan--PRICELESS! Loved it. And... BOY do I love watching Eduardo move that body---Didn't know he was such a great dancer.
So..........is it replacing FEA? If so, are all you bloggers going to be watching it!??

Karen, Colunga may be about the same height as Tom Cruise..Could be an inch or so taller. Not even six feet.Someone mentioned on here that Eduardo Yanez was 6'3"..No way..Having been married to a 6'2" all american basketball player,I know tall men..Unless, these actors have lifts in their shows(Colunga & Yanez) would they even be close to the height they say they are..Actors have near the same vanity as athletes, always saying they are taller than they really are..Regards..

Jeanne,How have you been? I see your comments online here..Some of the best as always..

I wanted so to be at the taping(Cristina Show),but my aunt, who lives on Miami Beach died early part of last week,so I had to be in Miami for a totally different reason..Will write to you from my business email..Regards,Maureen

Thanks, Maureen....we'll do that!

Agnes, you must have missed the epi where the Lety chewed on something that forced her to go to the dentist. The dentist finally removed her braces (after a decade or so) and gave her retainers. One was worse than the braces, but they were removeable. She convinced the dentist to give her the pieces of the braces.

She set the big retainer down in a ladies "retiring room" and a custodian thought it was scrap when he came to clean; he disposed of it. She came back and found the really big, ugly retainer apparatus gone. She was so distraught about looking so different she glued the pieces of braces onto the smaller, clear retainer, which she wears all the time except when she is "Aurora." That's my recollection but my memory is going.

Jeanne

Jeanne,

I don't think you need to know vosotros in any part of Mexico. I don't know if it's used anywhere in Latin America at all. I know they use it in Spain, but that might be the only place.

Ditto on vosotros. My Spanish tutor, who is from Venezuela and Argentina, does not bother going over vosotros. Basically, it is used in Spain, she says. I recently rented the Spanish movie "Pan's Labyrinth" and found it odd to hear it being used there. Also, the accents are so different from the Latin American.

Ay, Carrie L.! A Jaime Camil kissing school.

Shall we sign you up for 6 semesters?

Marie from Mass

Jeanne,

Thank you thank you for the braces explanation! I do remember seeing the big wire at the end of one episode, but then a month of hideous overtime curtailed my viewing in that time slot. I still think it must take a lot of time to do the whole costume change. Especially removing all the pancake and mascara and that stiff, uber-tight braid.

Caray, who's going to be first to uncover the deception, Ferni or Alto? Or do they both really secretly know already and aren't letting on?

--Agnes

Thanks for the height ino exportred/Maureen. I know actors and athletes often tweak their height stats. And I'm not good at being able to see someone (not surrounded by others) and realize s/he is tall (my younger sister is great at that).

Also sorry for your loss.

Karen

I'm so sorry about your aunt, Maureen.

Julie and NinaK, thanks for the info on vosotros. Well, it's understandable that I still remember it to some extent, because I learned Spanish from a very proper Cuban ex-lawyer who became a teacher in my high school after he left Cuba. He spoke "high Spanish" and was almost totally Castilian in his pronunciation and usage. Keep in mind this was roughly 40 years ago! I am so glad that Ud. will do it for everything!

Agnes, you're welcome. Perhaps my brain vaporlock isn't really so bad....

Jeanne (grateful for the end of a school year)

Thank you, Karen & Julie..Regards,Maureen

Thanks for the funny recap. Orange is also my favorite color. It's such a happy color.

Re: Aldo pointing to his eyes, they do that in Argentina. It's kind of a joke, like, I'm watching you. They also use vos in Argentina.

I agree that Fernando has learned to love Aurora because that is just another part of Lety. Aldo cannot do this. He can only love the childish Lety, and so could never truly love her. If you remember, his opinion of Aurora was not very high.

THAT KISS between Fernando and Aurora. Wow! Sign me up for the six semesters of Fernando's kissing school pronto.

Beckster, loved your comment about Fernando not being the "brightest bulb in the marquee". I hate to admit it, but at times like these, who can deny?

I'm totally with Miranda and Judy that this has been a "wild, wonderful ride". This is my first telenovela, and I will also miss all you "fellow obsesionadas" and your very witty recaps and comments. My input is always boring and I 'm in admiration of all your wit.

Thanks for the info that they probably won't rerun LFMB. That gives me incentive to buy the DVD's.
