Wait till tomorrow for Pasión recap or start it yourself tonight.
I am severely under the weather, you shouldn't know from it, and rowsed myself from sleep to apologize for not being able to stay away till 10. Anybody want to take a whack at it, feel free, or I'll post tomorrow (and will be able to save all your comments.). Sorry!
Labels: Pasion
I have been womdering the past two episodes--what's with the LaToya Jackson look for Cami? The headbands, the outrageous curls. Not to mention the overdose of henna! I find it very distracting.
That said, I am enjoying the show very much so far. I love these period novelas. It seems this one has a much lower budget than Alborada. Aren't they reusing many of the locations?
It's great to be back amongst this happy group of telenovela fans. Get well, Melinama, and thanks to everyone here who post the recaps and the comments!
sorry to hear you're sick; hope you feel better soon.
here's a very brief rundown from tonight's episode. I know I left out a lot of details, but these are the main things I remember:
Frannie helps Cami escape from Uncle Tim's mansion. Cami is dressed like a male servant. Ascanio spies on Frannie helping Cami escape. Cami runs off to the port and finds out about tickets on the merchant ship to Mexico - she uses the money from Frannie to buy a ticket, then goes to pray at the church and sleep there overnight waiting for the departure time. As soon as she makes it onto ship and into the cabin with a priest and a Senor, Uncle Tim shows up and has the authorities haul her off the ship - Ascanio and another servant drag her kicking and fighting back to the mansion where Uncle Tim has her tossed in the mansion's shed until she apologizes and begs for mercy from Uncle Tim.
Rico and Mario are back on the Salamander, Rico is captain of both Salamander and Camila. They discuss the two ships and piracy; Mario makes a statement about traveling the world and Rico can find his wife and have children. Also, As Lazaro brings in cheese plate (I think it was cheese) and drinks. Rico talks with them about Claudio and what's his name (Angel/Alberto/the little brother). Rico hopes all is well with them and the plan. Mario and Lazaro have some drinks while Rico eats. Lazaro makes a statement; Rico slaps his hand on his desk; Mario tells Lazaro never to say it again.
Santo is out for a walk on his crutches with Bermie and Vasco - they meet up with Jorge and Alberto - Santo spits on the ground in front of Jorge as Jorge greets him. Alberto says how dare you? Jorge says let him be. Santo and buddies walk away. Santo, Vasco and Bermie go out to eat at the local saloon. Ines falls asleep at her sewing and Ofelia hears and spies on Santo returning home, banging doors (he's drunk I think). Santo goes to his room and prays to the cross on the wall for help in putting everything in the past so he can move on with his life.
Cami in the shed is asleep when Ascanio brings her some bread and water. She's dreaming of Santo when they were first dating.
Rico at night, stands beside one of the rowboats, and remembers when Cami spit out his handkerchief and he said, "you have a point, we are despicable pigs."
At first Uncle Tim tosses Frannie and Elisabeth out on the street because Frannie helped Cami escape, but Frannie debates with him and he agrees to let them stay at the mansion (under house arrest).

there was a steamy naked sex scene between Ursula and Vasco, then the next scene was Vasco driving the cart with Santo in back to help Santo search for Cami.

Tnaks for the recap. One thing I remembered -- at the end of the episode, while Cami is dreaming of Santiago, Ricardo can't concentrate on writing his pirate history and asks why he can't get that woman out of his mind, and says he feels guilty.
This is a message from Gloria Estefan to Cami and Santi:
"!NO LLORAS, NO LLORAS! (Por favor, ed.)
Yes, I wondered about the misplaced head/hair band and that bad hair. Maybe she'll burn it the way Esperanza did in Alborada. My Colunga research is progressing nicely. !Caray, caray!

Please take care of yourself and get well soon.
We need our mother recapper.
If you've tried everything else, a little hot toddie makes you feel better and helps to put you to sleep.
Best,Best wishes

Fortunately, last night's episode didn't move things too far along - it has probably been the most uneventful one to date. I don't think JR missed a single thing of importance in her mini-recap.
Hope you are feeling better soon, Melinama.

Melinama, my best wishes for a prompt recovery. Thanks to your having started all this (I came on board with Alborada) I can make out a bit of what's going on all by myself. I am awed by the competence, intelligence, wit and great good humor of this group. Muchas gracias! Agnes (or, I guess, Inès)
Barbara from snowy Boston
Did I miss it or did we add in the stage coach or caravan (headed for Veracruz) attack by Alberto, Jorge-nocando's henchman. It was really hard to tell who was on which side except that Alberto returns triumphantly to toast with Jorge and they plan to get the goods to John Foreman, the corsair. Jorge seemed mighty pleased to be adding piracy to his list of evil deeds.
So we know a bit more about the rivalry-hatred between Pedro (Ric's dad + Tim's brother) sounds Tim may be the key to the disappearance of Pedro's fortune and I wonder if Tim also implicated Ric in the killing that Ric is being hunted for.
Also I agree with you Inez/Agnes, as foreshadowed in Tues. night's previews and expanded last night, Doña Sofia is discussing with Ofelia that old Jorge has 15 or more bastardos but only Santiago is male. This would set him up nicely later to inherit Jorge's estates by Spanish progenitor laws and customs. I thought Ofelia at first denied but quickly began to consider the advantages to her son. Oh, goody another mysterious thread to weave through the plot.
Our Miss Sourpuss Rita isn't making the progress she had hoped for with Santi who seems determined to get well just so he can pursue the leads on Cami's disappearance. I guess shreading and burying that letter may not be enough to squash Santi's hopes.
JR- thanks for the recap.
To add more detail to Frannie and old Timmy's conversation: Frannie actually bribes old Tim to let them stay, by reminding him that long ago she supported him in his complot to get rid of Ricardo so that they could stay with the money of Ricky's dad. Based on that, Old Tim allows them to stay.
In regards to the budget for this novela, I actually read that Carla said this is the most expensive novela she has ever made because it's filmed in high definition. But i agree alborada looked more costly.
It's almost Christmas and I'm going home for the holidays! (do i need to say i'm excited? :)) I first visited this site (pratie place, actually) 2 years ago when I was desperate to find a website that could help me catch up with Alborada while away for the holidays; it was such a relief! Thank you Melinama for putting up this blog...my aching for Fernando heart thanks you!
Thanks for the recap JR, you summed it up well. I am finding the stories back in San Fernando to be boring, but am really pulled into the Camila/Ricardo plotlines.
Just to add (because I had to look this up) Lazaro ticked Ricardo off when he referred to Camila as a hembra--a female animal or a vulgar word to describe a woman.
Thanks Corsair Huitlacoche and others (Go Willa!) for keeping us up to date on the happenings.
Hey Tasha Excited Captain Morgan Rackham, I missed the part where Frannie blackmailed Timmie into letting her stay. That seems pretty key in her ability to maintain her current position.
but female has only hembra for either animals or women.
With esposa -vs- mujer, I am told that in Spain the use of "esposas" for handcuffs makes using esposa for wife insulting so they tend to use mujer. I know each Latin country has different customs of polite or rude usage. I'm just saying...
And if you want to make a Mexican woman really laugh, use "Que Madre" when you like something. The universal "Que Padre" to say something is great is the phrase in use. Also female terms almost always are insults. English isn't any better if you think about when insulting someone.
I too fall asleep watching this, and not because I’m sick. Despite all the mayhem, I find it hard to engage so far as the characters are 2-dimensional. I’m blaming the director. Everything moves so fast, there is no time for emotional buildup. For instance last night the scene where Santiago comes face to face with Jorge after hating him all this time, and the scene is over in a second. See. Spit. Cut.
A contrast would be Betty la Fea, or LFMB. In those, we spent weeks just establishing her as nerdy/geeky and watching her crush on her handsome, womanizing boss. So when the plot began to develop, we cared. And when her heart was broken, it was wrenching. Here multiple horrible things are happening to Camila and I can’t seem to work up any compassion.
As for Colunga, whom I’m seeing for the first time.. yeah, ladies, he’s a looker all right. But to convey his reluctant pirate persona we got him just saying a few times that he’s really not into it. He doesn’t act conflicted, in fact he looks pretty calm and masterful. Actually a man-tear here would be helpful.
But I’m hanging in there to see if it grows on me. Besides, you guys are so much fun.
I must have had some kind of traumatic event as a child, because I literally go into a rage when I see stuff like that. I just can't stand to see someone bullied like that. I certainly know what I'd like to do with that cane though. Just picturing the old man walking around like a popsicle made me feel much better!
On a more pleasant note, watching the Novela's has encouraged me to start listening to more Hispanic music and, most recently, I discovered Roscio Durcal! What a glorious voice!!
La Paloma
I also like Elvis Crespo, high energy, salsa style. And Juan Luis Guerra, Carribean style. Check it out!
Beware, though. If you hear a song you like, don't automatically buy the CD. With too many Latino artists, you get a CD with twelve songs that all sound the same. No variety.
We are now expecting snow. Great, Fema is coming and bringing cots. I have a bed, it is electricity we need.
I know Katrina was way worse, but at least you could stand outside and hold up anti-govt signs while CNN flew over. Not so much here.
Maggie, I agree with you about the lack of emotional build-up in this novela (heaven knows I had a lot invested in LFMB - every one of my heartstrings got pulled, tugged, frayed, worn out!), and Fernando/Ric.
I was praying that Tio Tim would choke on his own bile last night.Maybe soon!
Beckster - hang in there. Glad to see your situation hasn't dulled your humor!
JR and others - thanks for the recap info.
I'm guessing we're not supposed to be feeling the warm fuzzies for any of these characters, we're just being introduced to the harsh reality of their lives. Hopefully we'll start caring at some point down the line as the story line fills out.
Oldman, I'm with you. I had to change channels during that scene, it was way too much for me. But I LOVE your solution. A human popsicle on a cane would be a perfect ending for this slimeball! Gotta give snaps to the actor though, he really made me hate him.
