Pasion - Jan. 22, 2008 - declarations, allegations and investigations galore

EPISODE 32:
* Ascanio escorts Santo into the salon of Cami's house. Ascanio tells Cami, Vasco, Justo and Santo about all the guards at the mansion; he doesn't know anything about Alvaro. Santo asks if they know or are searching for where Claudio is. Vasco seconds the question. Cami covers with excuse that they aren't searching for him. Ascanio backs her up. Santo starts to scold them both for hiding something about Claudio's whereabouts. Justo has to stand up and defend his daughter. Cami says that one afternoon Ursula and Claudio met each other. Ascanio reminds Vasco of that meeting on the plaza near the market store. Santo apologizes to Cami.

* Everyone leaves the bedroom so Padre and his alter boy can perform the 'last rites' prayers over Alvaro's body.

* Jorge and Alberto join the chief of the guards and Marcelino in the front entry. Chief and Jorge discuss the notion that the boy is living at Cami's house. Ursula comes downstairs and tells the men that the boy's full name is Claudio Fernandez de la Cueva, he told her so himself and he is the protege of Cami - so she wants Cami to arrested also for this crime. Jorge says they'll see; the chief is a professional and we'll let the guards to their jobs. Chief leaves. Ursula is adamant about Cami being arrested also. Jorge tells her to stop with the stupidity and return to her fiance upstairs now. She leaves. Jorge and Alberto talk about Claudio being one of Alvaro's lost cousins. Jorge turns and orders Marcelino to organize a search party. Marcelino leaves. Jorge and Alberto continue to talk - Jorge mentions that Paulino said that Alvaro called him Claudio and the boy called him murderer. Alberto chuckles at the coincidence that Jorge's daughter is first engaged to a pirate and then a murderer. Jorge and Alberto go to office for drinks and to wait for the inevitable death.

* As Padre, altar boy and ladies encircle the bed where Alvaro lays; they continue to pray; Alvaro takes his last deep breaths and dies. Doctor proclaims him dead.

* Cami, Ascanio, Vasco, Santo and Justo are in the salon - anxious and nervous. They hear the horses stop at the front gate. They all have to hold Cami back and convince her to stay inside. Vasco stays with her.

* Ascanio, Santo and Justo let the chief and the guards in the courtyard. He's there to search for Claudio. The men say Claudio isn't there; they play buffer for Claudio and Cami. Ascanio offers up his knowledge of Claudio, since he knew the lad in La Mariana. The chief asks Ascanio to come with them to make a declaration tonight.

* In the salon, Cami has been listening to the conversation from the door. She decides to go outside and talk with the chief; despite Vasco's best efforts to keep her inside.

* Cami walks out and starts to talk with the chief about how she knows Claudio. Vasco comes out with his sister. As the chief orders Cami to come with them to the municipal building and make a declaration, he also informs her about the accusations coming from Ursula. Vasco calls Ursula an insolent liar, and defends his sister. Justo has to come to Vasco's defense.

* Rico tells Mario that he found Bermejo and he confessed to setting him up for murder, and Tim and Fran were part of the scheme. Rico says that he asked Don Gaspar to leave Fran's name out of the official report because of Lis. Mario objects - Fran deserves to be punished. Rico changes the subject to the ambush and stolen money chests - wonder how he will be able to confront Jorge without sufficient funds. Rico asks who else knows about the theft - the crew, Cami, Jimena? Mario says no one but Pablo, he and Rico. As Mario talks with Rico about their life aboard ship, Antillano still is in disbelief over the theft - he was going to use part of the money to help the residents at La Iguana. He mentions Claudio sent there. Mario warns Rico that love and piracy don't mix. Rico can't stop himself - his love for Cami is the one thing that has kept him going while he was away.

* Sofia talks with Jorge and Alberto in the office about the investigation and search for Claudio - no luck finding him yet.

* Rico tells Mario to make sure they have enough pesos/coins left to last for the next three months. Rico mumbles about what rotten luck he's having.

* Vasco and Santo stand outside the municipal building. Justo comes out and says he can't go inside to be with Cami during her declaration. Santo is angry that Justo, her father can't be there.

* Rico rides his horse, alone, at night.

* In Pablo's room, Mario informs Jimena about Claudio killing his cousin tonight. Jimena is shocked - she knew of his threats but never thought he'd go through with it. Just then Pablo wakes up. Mario and Jimena run to his bedside. Mario asks Pablo who ambushed the caravan? Pablo mutters the name, El Tuerto. Jimena wonders if that's the same man who kidnapped her and Cami. Mario works to keep Pablo awake and talking to him about the incident, who did it - pirates like us?

* Rico arrives at the municipal building. Justo tells him that Cami and Ascanio are inside making their declarations. Rico goes inside. Santo grumbles why does Rico get to go inside but not him or Justo? Justo and Vasco have to argue that Rico is Cami's fiance and plus he's rich and has more power.

* In the hallway outside the chief's office, Rico talks with the guard - he wants permission to sit in with Cami, he's her fiance. Guard goes into the office.

* As Cami is arguing and giving her declaration to the chief, the guard enters and whispers to the chief that Rico wants to enter. Chief goes out to the hallway - tries to turn Rico away; Rico makes several very good, substantial arguments to get himself inside the office. Chief tells him this declaration is for a special reason - the murder victim was the fiance of El Senor's daughter. In the end, Rico wins the argument. Chief and Rico enter the office. Rico hugs Cami and tells her everything will be fine. They sit down and she continues her declaration.

* Ascanio finishes his declaration and joins Santo, Vasco and Justo outside.

* Mario rides to Cami's house and knocks on the front gate - no answer.

* Rico and Cami join Papa Justo, Vasco, Santo and Ascanio outside on the street. Santo leaves. As papa and Vasco leave, Vasco shakes Rico's hand and calls him 'cunado'. Ascanio, Rico and Cami walk back to Cami's house.

* Outside the front gate, Rico sees Mario standing there. Cami and Ascanio go to the door. Mario whispers to Rico that Pablo remembers El Tuerto. Cami calls out to ask if Mario and Rico will be coming inside. Rico excuses himself from entering, he's tired. She understands. They whisper to each other, and give each other a good-night nuzzle. Ascanio has to clear his throat to break it up. Ascanio and Cami go inside and close the door. Mario and Rico talk about what Pablo remembered - they decide to go see La Paisana tonight. Mario reminds Rico about the lack of money and worries about confronting Jorge. Rico knocks on the door. Mario tells Rico to come up with whatever "fish" story he can about missing documents in order to leave town. Ascanio opens the door - Rico needs to see Cami - Ascanio escorts Rico inside. Mario stays outside with the horses.

* Rico waits in the salon. Cami appears. Rico tells her that he has to leave; they have a lead on his stolen important documents. Cami asks if its dangerous. Rico says yes. She asks if they know who stole them? he says delinquents. Cami wonders how much longer before they can be together. Rico assures her. She's scared, for him and for her safety - she likes how he cares and protects her. Rico asks her why she doesn't also think the same about her dad or Vasco? Cami is caught off-guard.

* Mario returns to Pablo's room. Mario checks on Pablo - sleeping soundly. Mario then watches Jimena sleep in her chair near the bed. He whispers a compliment to her.

* Outside the hacienda, Jesus and Guerrero saddle up the horses.

* In the hallway the next day, Mario informs Rico about all the belly-aching Fran and Lis had been doing about him, Pablo, the men and Jimena while Rico was away. Rico and Mario enter Pablo's room.

* In the room, Jimena is feeding Pablo some soup as Mario and Rico enter and watch. Jimena places the breakfast tray on the side dresser. Mario and Jimena leave. Rico sits by the bed. Pablo asks about the chests; Rico asks Pablo to tell him what he remembers about the ambush and who did it. Pablo distinctly remembers El Tuerto, and that the gang were pirates. Rico stands and thought bubbles to himself.

* Everyone in town watches as Alvaro's casket is loaded onto the funeral cart. Jorge talks with the chief of the guards about Cami and Ascanio's declarations last night - Chief says that Rico was present during Cami's declaration. Due to lack of evidence, chief had to release Cami and Ascanio. Chief leaves. Jorge and Alberto talk about Alberto starting a secret, private investigation of his own. Jorge will leave to escort the casket back to Salvatierra (the trip will be for one day).

* Fran and Lis stop Rico in the hallway. Rico apologizes for yesterday. Lis asks him what's wrong? Did he get some bad news on his trip? Fran and Lis want to talk. Rico stomps into the salon, and the ladies follow him.

* In the salon, Rico blasts Fran about Bermejo's confession to the frame-up scheme. Fran and Lis are stunned. Lis asks what are you talking about? Rico says our aunt Fran knows very well what I'm talking about. Fran stutters and tries to deny the allegations against her; says Tim hated Pedro, from the day Pedro stole his girlfriend from him. Rico is still fuming mad. He yells at them to never interfer with his men and the ladies who come to care for Pablo - it is HIS house after all! Rico storms out. Lis is stunned and demands that Fran tell her the truth about Bermejo and her dad. Fran tells her about Bermejo being the kingpin of the illegal drug and slave trade in La Mariana. They argue. Fran pleads with Lis for compasion and to believe her. Lis doesn't believe her and leaves. Fran sits and cries.

* Cami talks with Justo at the house - Rico had to leave on a one-day trip but when he returns, Rico promises to make the engagement official. Justo mentions getting Don Castulo to handle the arrangements. Justo leaves. Cami sees Ines - they sit on the garden bench and talk about Vasco completing his duty with Ines. Ines is upset and doesn't think he will. Ines asks Cami about talking with Ofelia and Justo - she doesn't want to force a marriage on Vasco but if she's pregnant... Cami assures Ines how beautiful and caring a person she is, also Paco adores her. Ines questions why she had to fall in love with someone like Vasco.

* Ursula meets with the chief of the guards. The guards haven't found Claudio anywhere yet. Ursula is convinced that Cami knows and isn't saying anything. Ursula then makes her one special accusation that Cami was an accessory to the murder of her fiance. The chief is aghast and wonders if Jorge knows. Ursula tells the chief that she is Jorge's only child and he always defends her. Ursula leaves.

* Alberto visits Lis and Fran at the hacienda. Fran and Alberto inform Lis that Ursula's fiance was murdered last night in the square by the protege of Cami. Lis is shocked. Alberto asks about Rico - they briefly mention his latest trip he is on right now and then change the subject fast. Lis asks Alberto about the medical letter. Alberto says the original hasn't turned up, and unfortunately, they weren't able to get another one because Don Bonifacio died before their man arrived in town. Alberto assures Lis and Fran of his loyal friendship to them.

* Cami finds Justo at work outside the market. She needs to speak with him and Ofelia about Vasco and Ines - it's important. shall they meet at his house or Ofelia's? Justo suggests they meet at her place.

* Ursula climbs the stairs outside the mill.

* As Ofelia and Justo walk passed the shop, they mention to Santo that they are going to talk with Cami - something about Vasco and Ines. Santo half-explodes about his adamant opposition of Ines having anything to do with Vasco - he is a slacker and womanizer and won't ever change. Justo agrees with Santo; Ofelia says they are still going to go and talk with Cami. They leave. Santo stews in his spite.

* Ursula arrives at the mill office door - make I enter for a little consolation from a friend? Vasco welcomes her in with a loving embrace. He asks where her father is? she says away. He asks if there will be any engagements soon? she's not sure. They start to kiss right their on the desk. Jeremias walks in the office, sees them on the desk and backs out closing the door behind him.

* Ofelia, Justo and Cami talk in the courtyard. Ofelia and Justo sit down. Cami starts off by saying she loves her brother, but on this occasion she can't continue to support him. Cami reveals that Vasco and Ines had slept together. Ofelia and Justo are impactado. Cami isn't sure when it happened; just that it was not rape. Justo wants to kill Vasco. Cami attempts to calm her dad down. He leaves to talk with Vasco. Cami and Ofelia cry with worry - over Justo, Vasco and especially Santo when he finds out about this. Then Ofelia tells Cami about Rita, her pregnancy and her continuing jealous rage against Cami and Santo. Cami and Ofelia cry and walk together.

* Fran and Alberto walk outside. Alberto surprises Fran with the news about Rico and Cami's engagement. Fran hopes the news will finally make Lis stop fantasizing about Rico. Alberto then asks if nephew Rico and Rico Lopez are the same person. Fran covers by saying that it's just a coincidence the two have similar first names, plus it's been many many years since she's even received word from her nephew. Alberto mentions the possibility of Lis going into town sometime. Alberto leaves.

* Fran returns to the salon and gossips to Lis about Alberto's questions concerning Rico. Fran is concerned about Alberto and Jorge investigating and suspects their man they sent to La Mariana must've uncovered something about their family. Lis is worried that they will try to get her inheritance. Fran then shocks Lis with the news that Rico and Cami are engaged.

Love and piracy don't mix! Nice recap.

Much obliged, Cap'n. Ye stood yer watch right handsomely (quickly).

I'll wager dubbloons to donuts what that scurvy wench Ursula cries rape against that blaggard Vasco, as a means to punish Cami, or pressure her. Any takers?

Thanks! Boy I hate the way Saintly is barking and bossing people around, he has learned bad tricks from Grita.

Ahhh, Mario. Be still my heart! Who knew he could grow on you like that?

Thanks for the breakfast recap! More problems for Cami and Ric's on the road again. Mario has developed just fabulously...
jb-Iron Jack Cash

Thanks, j.r.,for giving me this recap to read with my Cheerios. Why did Alberto ask Tia about taking Lis ''out of town sometime.''?? What's that about ?? And, Justo ran off to find Vasco [who has some 'splaining to do] so is he going to walk in and find Vasco conducting some business with Ursula on the desk ??? And you've got to hand it to Ric. Even though he just found out that his treasure has been stolen and Claudio has killed his cousin and put himself and Camila in jeopardy and his Tia is a viper, he can still find the time and strength to put the moves on. Whataguy. When Ric and Camila were kanoodling goodnight, I thought that either Ascanio o o or Mario might feel compelled to groan, ''Hey, you two, get a room.'' So, Ric and Mario are off to talk to the Pirate Queen.

As always, thanks for the recap! I can't keep up with the dialogue.

The action has really picked up, hasn't it? Ric is MUY fabuloso...I never get tired of watching him. And yes, Mario is turning out to be quite the guy and Ascanio is as well. They do a nice job of counterbalancing the annoying Saintly & man-whore Vasco.

Anyone notice the funeral wagon was decked out in pink & purple? I guess Whore-sula was in charge of that! (what, no feathers????)

The plot thickens!

M from CT :-)

Thanks, J.R.! That was quick!
=========
Green-eyed monster mashing alert! Cami's going to catch it from all sides soon. First she's got Ursula threatening the captain of the guard to find something to connect Cami to Claudio's crime in order to get even with her for "stealing" Ric; secondly she's got Ric all of a sudden questioning her sincerity of feeling for him compared to those of her father and brother or her BIL, ex-fiance, who Ric pointedly complains to her, "cannot keep his eye off you for an instant"; then she has Ophelia worried about GRita's not-so-insane jealous obsession over Santi's now, insanely jealous obsession with Ric and Cami; finally, Santiago's jealousy toward Cami's wealthy, good-looking new fiance and his internal struggle to contain it; and then, Fran stirring the wasp-nest of cuzzin' Lis's are going to make for one hell of a literal pot-boiler. I'm betting Saintly loses his halo first.

When Mario looked at Jimena and said, "You're a good muchacha" and gently stroked her sleeping cheek, I thought he's a goner. It was a sweet moment.

Also when Cami says that she "loves" or likes Ric because he cares for her and protects her, and he asks her like her father, etc., I thought there was a kind of flirting in that remark...as if he was saying "Is that really why?"
I think their chemistry is improving --especially on his part.Lucky girl!!!!

Wonderful recap in the morning. You brought new meaning and life to missed details.

When Ursula was making her demand of the police chief - or whatever he's called - I thought she also threatened him with a demand that he'd better do what she's asking because "...my father can't live forever..." and I'm his only heir.

Did I hear that?

From lower Ala

I have decided that Mario is 'my-main-man'. I adore his humor, even when he is not trying to be funny. For instance on Monday when Ricardo was dealing with the crisis of the joven Mario was moving right along with the captain but of course he knew there was so much more. So he told Ricardo lets go in and have a drink. But he pours the captain two drinks before he tells him that his fortune is gone missing.

And last night when the Captain was going to tell Cami all the truth, Mario was reminding him that the story is we're going fishing, or even tell her we are going to recover the lost documents. Then when Ricardo says okay you go back to the house, Mario says no I'm going to wait for you right out here!

I love this best buddy with a sense of ballance and humor.

LaFont did suggest that Lis spend more time in town. Maybe because it would greatly improve his odds of seeing her more often. Right now the only way he gets to see her is if he can think of a legitimate reason to go to Ric's house.

Ursula accuse Vasco of rape? I hadn't thought of that... but I've been wondering how she hasn't gotten pregnant yet.

If she does turn up pregnant, she'd almost have to accuse Vasco of rape.

To further complicate matters...

On Thursday or Friday, when Ines was having another "stomach" ache she said she was having her period ("I'm in my days"). I gave a big sign of relief. But I guess that was just a coverup for being mopey, because yesterday she worried with Camila about how things would go if she was pregnant.

So... how about if Vasco knocks up two women at the same time... oh now that would be a fine twist.

J.R. - thanks, the recap was really great.

I enjoyed the scene where Ric confronted Fran. I thought that he would never do that.

I am thinking:
Vasco + GRita = Brother & Sister
+ +
Ines + Santi = >> >>
= =
??? Married

This is going to be confusing for their children and besides, this is supposed to be incest in some countries. I know that back then, there was no such problem but I couldn 't resist bringing it up ; )
I am not even going to comment on Liz being in love with her first cousin!

Jardinera - thanks for the answer yesterday!

The next time Santi says 'who does he think he is' in reference to Ricardo I want Camilla to be there. Then she can turn the question around and say to Santiago, who do you think YOU are!
When Cami sent word she urgently needed to speak with Santi he arrived and went strait into a conversation about himself without asking why she wanted to see him. And even now he is more focused on himself having access to Cami than Cami's actual safety!

And isn't this the second time father Justo stood outside a building while his daughter was inside in danger? He needs a head to go with that heart.

I love the way the hairdos change. It was great to see Camila's forehead last night when Ricky came back to talk. No headband and those silly corkscrew bangs were swept off her face. It was refreshing. And notice how Ursula's do is starting to morph from a Marge Simpson conehead-beehive into more like Tia Fran's look with those sausage-like rolls. At least no one is wearing Princess Leia cinnamon buns over the ears.

jr, thank you for the recap. I was up early, and like an addict, went immediately to caraycaray for my fix. And there you were.--Agnes

NJsue It didn't occur to me that Ricardo was flirting with Cami when he was saying protect you like your father, and like your brother, and like your blacksmith. But I did see that look of confusion on Cami's face.
I'm was wondering if Ricardo was feeling just a little bit testi. Afterall, he has so much on his plate.

Great recap.

I feel so dumb now, for some reason I didn't realize that Justo was off looking for Vasco at the same time he was getting busy with Ursula! Of COURSE he will find Vasco there with her, just to make it that much worse for poor Leif Garrett. Man his whole world is about to collapse. We do see him in the preview for Wednesday talking to Bernabe about his blackmail, so at least Justo didn't kill him.

JB Iron jack cash, my advice for Cami is have that adventurer take you with him as far as GrandMa Pirate's place and do an internship. Yep, I like the idea. Can you see it?! Cami-Camelion, in full regalia head scarf tied to the side in Whorje's face...with a knife.

Sophia, re: double cousins, i.e. two hermanos marry two hermanos. I think it was pretty common. My friend, baby boomer generation, child of Mexican immigrants, knows of plenty of families where two brothers married two sisters. Maybe for convenience (e.g. they live in the same neighborhood), maybe the brothers have similar taste ("Hey, does she have a sister?"), maybe because an older sibbling was there to chaparone when the courting pair was together. Not sure why, but it was pretty common.

Often the "double cousins" are more like sibblings than cousins, especially because the parents spend a lot of time together. My co-worker has a double cousin, and they as close as twins-they almost think for each other.

All I know is that one of my brothers totally has the hots for my wife's sister.

Can I ask a big favor? Can someone possibly script out a small part of a scene? I'm kicking myself that I didn't tape it last night, and the YouTube clip is too hard for me to decipher with my "challenged" Spanish.

Ric & Cami are in the solon. Ric just told her he has to go recover the documents. Starting where Camila says, "Esta mi, pero... Ricardo, dime.." The remainder of the scene is about 40 seconds. I would be equally happy with Spanish or English. I get the jist, but I miss much of the detail.

It's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyHgsgCLmIQ&feature= starting at time-hack 5:50, if that helps.

Le agradezco mucho muchisimo!

To all you wonderful people who do the translations and comments on Pasion, I am a Intermediate spanish student, 68 year old gringo grandmother, undergoing chemo therapy for breast cancer and cannot tell you how much I love this site. I try to watch the program first and get as much as I can Then get the recaps to fill me in on the details. Until I am able to go back to classes, this keeps me in touch with Spanish. You are all so funny! Just for the record, I love Ric and Mario but think Cami (while beautiful) is a terrible actress. I wish Adele Noriega had the part. They had such chemistry is Amar Real. Bkoizumi

Here is the scene Mad Polly:
Cami: Ricardo, tell me, how much longer will you have to live this life?
Ric: Don't know
Cami: Why are there all these anxieties (literally sinkings, as in a ship)?
Ric: I want to leave this way of living but I swear it's not easy. In any case, I assure you that you won't suffer.
Cami: Of, course, I'll suffer. The anguish of knowing that you are in danger somewhere far away.
Ric: Does this mean that you are starting to love me?
Cami: How could I not love you when you support me, help me, comfort me...
Ric: Your father also comforts and helps you and Ascanio and that blacksmith who doesn't appear to leave you alone for a second...

I think Ric doesn't think that Cami really loves him yet.

I thought Ric was feeling a bit of the green eyed monster when he was talking to Camila in the salon. I also loved seeing her hair down too and Mario with Jimena. Too cute. I also loved Ric tearing into Fran and boy are the daggers out for Camila or what LOL. Ric better hurry back.

Thank you for the detailed recap! I got a phone call and was unable to watch almost all of the episode and this is a great help - I'd hate to lose the thread of what's going on at this point.

Camila looked so different with her hair down for a little while I thought they'd brought in another actress!

Toddson

I agree with Babs, Cami just ain't cuttin' it. Her acting really interferes with the flow of the plot.

Paula H. - thanks for your interest point of view. It 's not common here. Actually, it 's forbidden in Greek Orthodox church. I am not even sure if it ' s legal.

Ferro - If your wife 's sister is so beautiful as your wife herself, I can understand your brother : )

NJ, thank you so much! Exactly what I needed. As I suspected, the scene revealed much about how the romance is progressing, but the dialog is so subtle, I would never have caught the nuance without your script. Thank you!!!

Babs, I too enjoyed the Fernando-Adela matchup in Amor Real, my favorite novela. I'm still waiting for the Ric-Cami sparks. My idea of chemistry is what Jimena and Mario have. Delicious!

Hope you'll soon be back to your classes. I'm sure your classmates will be amazed by your new novela vocabulary : )

I thank you too NJ. I was not catching the subtle meanings behind the facial expressions but I knew there was something there.
But didn't Cami tell Jimena and Ines that she is in love with Ricardo? Has she not yet said te amo to Ricardo!?

LOL cpt bonney morgan, you were writing everything I was thinking today! Great idea for Cami to apprentice a little self defense and replace the wierd hair with a scarf. I'd happily apprentice with Mario, if you'll share your main man. By the way, I was very disappointed to read the other day that there are not any 'real' men like Ric or Mario. No puede ser...
jb-Iron Jack Cash

JB Iron jack, ;-)
Ooooh-kaaay, I'll share 'my-main-man'. We are undoubtedly a smaller crowd than the one surrounding Ricardo.

Cami gave a lame answer to Ric's question about her love. Come on, if she can't have chemistry with the guy, at least say something that makes him feel special. After all that he's done to show he loves her, now would be a good time to reciprocate with more than generic kind words that could be said to her parents.

cpt. bonney morgan, that's great--more Mario for us...

Babs~~~Welcome !!! Isn't this a fun site. I've been stopping by here ever since I discovered ''Alborada'' [my first telenovela] and had no idea what the actors were saying but liked the looks of the show...and Fernando. I agree that Adela and Fernando had great chemistry in Amor Real [my second fav telenovela.] I also think that Lucero and Fernando were a good match in ''Alborada'' [my fav telenovela]. Sophia : I teach a lot of Syrian students, and they sometimes marry their cousins. In the past , it also happened sometimes here in the U.S. [In Gone with the Wind, Ashley Wilkes married his cousin Melanie, and we were told that the Wilkes family often married their cousins.] We once had a looong discussion here at caraycaray about cousinloving. I appreciated the translation of the conversation between Ric and Camila. I guess Ric was saying ''Do you LOVE me, or do you love me the way you love your family???'' Do you like me or do you ''like me'' like me ???? Can't wait to see what develops tonight. Will Vasco be caught with Ursula on the desk ??? Will Ric get some answers from the Pirate Queen??? Will Lis give someone a whack with her cane ???

Mad bess - I think that this also has to do with their religion. Or am I wrong? I mean they don 't have incest problems as far as married cousins is concerned, do they?

I'm not following this "incest" problem. Ines and Vasco aren't related; Santi and Rita aren't related. If these two couples had kids, then yes, those kids would be double-cousins... but it's a bit early to worry about these not-yet-born people getting together romantically!

Or are we talking about something else?

J. R., thanks for the wonderful recap! Love that title! Amiguita, I really appreciate how you keep all the characters straight for us and the research you did to get the names of the lesser-known and newer ones! (But, you knew that, since I’ve already told you). ☺

“I hate the way Saintly is barking and bossing people around, he has learned bad tricks from Grita.” Melinama, ROTFL! Yep!

“Santo starts to scold them both for hiding something about Claudio's whereabouts.” Santiago is a pain in the okole, if you ask me. He meddles in everything, whether it’s really his biz or not, where Camila is concerned. It’s getting on my last nerve.

“I'm betting Saintly loses his halo first.” Trust me, Jardinera/Cousin Cash – he already has! Now that I’ve made three complaints about Saintly, I’ll quit for tonight—sometime I’ll tell you all what I REALLY think about him. ;-)

“Vasco calls Ursula an insolent liar” Hmph. Sure, he can say that now but it won’t keep him from taking the opportunity to mess with Ursula the next time she beckons with that index finger and that smile with a dimple. He’s not fooling us.

“Santo grumbles why does Rico get to go inside but not him or Justo? Justo and Vasco have to argue that Rico is Cami's fiance and plus he's rich and has more power.” Plus, he doesn’t have an eye tic when he’s terrified. Because he’s never terrified. And he’s no wimp, either.

“Vasco shakes Rico's hand and calls him 'cunado'” Maybe Ric can make Vasco do the right thing by Ines. OTOH, most likely Ines will be better off with anyone else other than Vasco.

“Alberto mentions the possibility of Lis going into town sometime.” I wonder if he has a plan to compromise her so she’ll have to marry him. Wouldn’t be a big surprise.

Mad Polly/PaulaH, your speculation is a real possibility about Ursula. Boy, wouldn’t that be interesting.

Sofia, my husband is a double cousin—his parents were siblings to his aunt and uncle (( have a sister, you have a sister, let’s double date). Not so uncommon in some rural parts of the US. The key is they were from different family trees. First cousins, however, are not allowed to marry in most of the United States. I am not sure if there are any states left where that is permitted, but Arkansas allowed it at least until about 60 years ago. Don’t ask me how I know, I just do. ;-)

Jeanne

Great recap! I especially enjoy the bullets for easy reading.

I do think Ursula was more explicit in her conversation with the interrogator (cop, whatever). She was basically saying: I don't care if there's no evidence against Camila, you should manufacture some because my dad won't live forever and I'm his only child and heir and will be ruling the roost for a very long time.

Also, the Vasco thing is ridiculous. I know he's supposed to be a weak cad, but he calls Ursula a zorra in front of the officer who's come to question her, seems furious at the affront to his dear sister, then jumps Ursula's bones without even a word about what the evil witch is trying to do to his own sister.

A person I'd like to murder is Fran. I get the feeling she's going to skate with Lis on her culpability in Ric's "desgracia". Five minutes after Ric tears her a new one and she's weeping with remorse with Lis, she's out on the lawn "dissing" Ric with Roosterhead. And then, the only thing she cares about is Ric not being about to support the two witches. And you know when I write witch another word more readily comes to mind.

I'm a little confused , too. Sophia```Are you saying that cousins are not legally allowed to marry in Greece ?? As Julie has pointed out, there would be no incest if Ines married Vasco because they are not related. Also Rita and Santago are not related. Ines and Santiago are siblings and Vasco and Rita are siblings. Now,....is it illegal in Greece for a man to marry his brother's wife's sister or a woman to marry her sister's husband's brother??? Did I get that straight??? I am getting more and more confused. I need a cup of coffee, and then I'm going to email my cousin Drew whom I've always had a crush on....

"I am getting more and more confused. I need a cup of coffee, and then I'm going to email my cousin Drew whom I've always had a crush on...."

ROTFLLLL!!! I nearly choked on my tea when this hit my eyes!

I loved the scene with Ric and Cami's "good-night nuzzle!" The shot of Mario and Ascanio trying not to look uncomfortable on either side of the two... priceless!

I was *so* not expecting Ric to call his aunt on her involvement in framing him so soon! And now that the ladies know that Ric and Cami are engaged, and the ED card is due to show up again soon, it should be interesting to see the family drama that ensues... at least Ric's family drama will start to rival that of Cami's family.

Marrying cousins? Eeeewwwww! If brothers Ned & Ted marry sisters Mary & Terri, that's fine, because nobody is marrying a blood relative.

Also, I know in some settings, marrying a blood relative's ex- or widow is verboten. e.g. when Henry VIII married Catherine, promised to his brother (Arthur?), but brother died before marriage. That was part of Henry's argument for annulment.

OTOH, in the Bible, OT, it's expected that you'd marry your brother's widow if your brother died w/o sons. I forget if that was Law or custom.

One more thing: when Ric asked Cami if she was beginning to feel for him, suggested response: "I don't accept kisses from casual acquaitances" (and flutter the eyelids). To which Ric would've responded ...

I didn 't mean to create this chaos, sorry, LOL!!

We are not allowed to marry our first, second and third cousins. I am not sure if it is illegal according to the governmental law but it is definitely illegal according to the law of our church. This means that if I want to marry my second cousin (eww) I will never marry him in the church.

Now, as far as the brother and sister marrying the sister and brother, you are right, it 's not exactly incest, but I used the word to describe that it is illegal in our church.

I hope I didn 't confuse you more. Not being a native speaker doesn 't help!!

Mad Polly/Paula H - Arthur and Catherine of Aragon were actually married by proxy when they were quite little and then for real in late 1501, and he died about five months later. When she married Henry, she had stillborn children until she finally had the single living daughter, Mary. That gave Henry lots of ammunition to divorce her, saying the reason for their bad luck was that he had married his brother's widow and that's why she had stillborn children and only a single child, a girl.

Wow, Sophia, how interesting that non-related people could be technically committing incest in your church/country, just because their siblings also married each other. I was reading that 19 states in the US still allow even first cousins to marry. I haven't seen any data on second cousins or farther apart. There are, however, many prohibitions on intermarriage still--for example, I don't think that an uncle can marry a niece, because that is too close a blood relation. But I'm no legal expert on it. All I know is that I'm not married to any of my cousins. They're nice enough, but......it is a rather spooky concept.

Jeanne - "it is rather spooky concept" ROTFL!

First cousins? Really? Don 't get me wrong, I respect everybody 's customs and laws I just didn 't know it!

I hope you don 't think that we are irrational or something.

Well, we can only hope you don't think WE are irrational or anything, Sophia!

Jeanne

Of cource you are not : )

Well, goodnight from Greece! I hate this huge difference in the time zone.

First cousins are allowed to marry in about half of the states, including Massachusetts, New York, Florida, and California.

Some states allow it only under special circumstances.

More info here.

Evidently, Texas recently outlawed cousin-marryin'.

I found slightly conflicting information on other websites, but most of the confusion involves either Texas, or the states that sort-of allow it under certain circumstances.

It looks like it's legal to marry your second cousin in any state, but some states don't allow marrying a cousin-first-removed.

Wow, Julie, everything you ever wanted to know about cousins marrying in the US.

Sophia, I know the feeling about the time difference. My brother has lived in Germany or Italy for more about 25 years, and I lived in Hawaii for 7 of those years. It was always a hassle to call the mainland US. It was actually easier to call Germany from Hawaii, because 8 in the morning in Hawaii was 8 p.m. in Germany much of the year. But from the middle of the US, it's tough to call Germany again.

Not much to really add to the conversation except that this is what I love about this website ...we come together to discuss a common theme and then we digress into such subjects as cousin'lovin'. I learn so much from all of you.

Thanks for the recap JR. I'm sorry I can't read it earlier in the day because the CarayCaray site is now blocked from my work internet :-( It's considered entertainment (which I can understand), and therefore not allowed. Bummer. So now I rush home from work and try to read it all before tv time starts.

"When Mario looked at Jimena and said, "You're a good muchacha" and gently stroked her sleeping cheek, I thought he's a goner. It was a sweet moment."
That was a sweet moment. Even sweeter because Jimena's mouth was hanging open just a little, for that authentic sleeping look. He's going to be singing "Why must I be a tough pirate in love" soon, to the tune of "Teenager in love."

I think the purple "hearse" was due to purple being used along with black as an indication of mourning back in the day. However, it was a very eye-stabbing shade of purple. (Once widows were out of deep mourning, they could add tones of purple or grey to their black wardrobe.)

I vote to send Cami to pirate school, as well as Jimena. I predict Jimena would get straight A's.
Thanks for the super recap and all the fun comments. La Paloma

"Mario returns to Pablo's room. Mario checks on Pablo - sleeping soundly. Mario then watches Jimena sleep in her chair near the bed. He whispers a compliment to her."

This was probably one of the best scenes I've seen in any of the novelas I've watched lately. With all the posturing and baloney you see on Juan or on the late, not-so-great Amar Sin Limites, it was refreshing to see a man looking at a woman through the eyes of love.

I like both the characters of Jimena and Mario and the actors who play them so well.

So far, they (Mario and Jime) are stealing the show, I'd say.

I am completely bummed that the odious cousin/uncle Alvaro got offed. He had the makings of a right proper villain. Darn it all!

If I'm not mistaken, Mario played the horrendous villain in "Entre Amor y el Odio" who got leprosy at the end (and took up wearing a mask), stole a child and almost dropped him over the edge of that angel statue in DF, and then got shot and hurled over the edge himself and landed broken on the sidewalk with enough energy to give a long long defiant speech (rejecting forgiveness from a priest) before dying.

Really? I remember you referencing that villain in one of your Pratie Place posts, something like the best of the worst villain's demises. Cool!!

Look in the second picture in this post:

http://pratie.blogspot.com/2005/02/telenovela-cliff-notes.html

isn't that him? at the end of that post it describes his end (but it was his evil girlfriend that had leprosy, I forgot - he himself was hideously burned)
