Pasion Feb. 19, 2008 - Ines and Vasco are in wedded bliss; Santo's whole world explodes

EPISODE 50:
* Cami swears to Rico that she doesn't love Santo. Rico looks at her and asks what about Santo? Rico says he isn't comfortable with her visiting one on one with him at all. Cami explains that it's a small town and ... Rico looks at her again (with puppy dog eyes) and makes Cami promise to avoid Santo. She agrees. He pulls her onto his lap and hugs her. He tells her that he needs to earn lots of money. She says use her inheritance. He says no. He plans on visiting Don Gaspar and asking about a position with the Spanish armada. Cami is upset and thinks he will get into a battle with the British and pirates now; she doesn't want that. She says there's more than enough money in the trust for them to live on. Rico reminds her of all the villagers in La Iguana that are dependent on him. He has to do this. She is worried and will die without him. He says no one is going to die of loneliness; nothing bad will happen; if this plan works out well, he will make more than enough money for them to live happily and have many, many kids together. They smile and coo.

* Jimena and Mario walk into the salon and talk about Mario going in search of Bernie and the medical letter. Mario explains the Captain needs the money for himself and other things. Jimena asks about his need for money. Mario says he has some savings. Jimena asks him about his wife or children. Mario says he has no wife, and children, well, he has no idea if he has or where they would be. They sit on the floor; he starts to flirt with her. She mentions pregnancy. He asks if she's pregnant. She says no, of course not. She goes into a brief description of her ideal mate - a husband? he asks. She says, yes in every legal sense. He laughs and says that's not him then. She scowls at him and tells him to go find a whore at the brothel then. She gets up and leaves. Mario thought bubbles as he snacks on Jimena's half-peeled mango.

* Ines makes it to the bedroom finally. Vasco is there laying and waiting in bed already. Ines says it took longer because Paco was too excited from the party today. Vasco says he's old enough to understand. Vasco notes Ines is nervous and reminds her they are married. She takes off her robe and sits on the bed. She is nervous about pleasing him. He scoots up to her and assures her. He takes off her bonnet and says how beautiful she looks. As he starts to kiss her, she says she loves him. He says he loves her. Really? asks Ines. Really, says Vasco. They make love.

* In the church rectory, Padre (Don Augustin) walks in and reads a passage from the register about Santo's christening. Jorge wonders about Ofelia and her late husband, also about what Ofelia confessed to Padre. Padre won't reveal anything from the confession. Jorge continues his questions and theories. Padre defends Santo as an honest, good Christian man. Padre says he won't help Jorge if it's just curiosity, but if Jorge's sincere, then he will help.

* In the salon, Jorge and Sofia have tea. Jorge relays what Don Augustin told him during their chat at the church. Sofia asks about the confession. Jorge looks at her and says he didn't reveal anything. Jorge contemplates Santo as his son; and if it's convenient to recognize him now; what Santo's reaction will be to the news; the inheritance that Santo should receive; then Jorge mentions how everyone thinks he slept with Cami. Sofia is stunned and wonders then it isn't true. They discuss Ursula's grounding. Sofia tells Jorge to take care of Santo first. He leaves. Sofia thought bubbles.

* Fran meets with Alberto at his house. She makes an excuse why Lis didn't come also. They sit down in the office. Fran tells Alberto about the medical letter, she knows who has it. Just then, Manuela interrupts to tell Alberto she needs to go to visit the mansion. Alberto gives her permission. She leaves. Fran tells Alberto that Vasco's friend, Bernie, has the letter.

* Mario lays in the back of the cart, spying on Alberto's house. He watches Manuela leave and walk down the street.

* Alberto and Fran continue to discuss the story behind how Bernie ended up with the letter, and how Cleo told her and Lis all about the story. Fran claims that Alberto is their only hope, especially with all the problems Rico is dealing with now. Alberto assures her of his personal assistance, on the condition that he can court and eventually marry Lis.

* Alberto walks Fran out to her coach. He makes her promise to keep this deal a deep dark secret from everyone, including Jorge. He assures her he will be in charge of everything. Fran assures him she will keep her promise, and thinks he will make a fine husband for Lis. She climbs into the coach and it leaves. Mario watches them on the street corner.

* Cami and Rico meet with Marcelino in his office. Rico signs the contract (with his fake last name). Marcelino says congratulations the transaction is now official. Marcelino hands Rico the packet, who hands it over to Cami. Rico and Cami leave.

* Out on the street, Rico and Cami talk about going to present the papers to Justo at the house. Rico mentions having to go to see Ascanio about the search addresses for Bernie. Cami sees Pablo and Jesus on the street; she mentions how uncomfortable they make her feel, like he doesn't trust her. Rico explains they are to protect her from Don Jorge. She assures him that Jorge can't do anything, they're married now. He agrees to drop the guards. Cami leaves alone. Rico tells Pablo and Jesus to return to the hacienda now. Mario meets up with Rico and tells him about Fran's visit to Alberto's house. She had to be meeting with Alberto; Manuela left the house earlier and alone. Mario asks about Lis; Rico doubts her involvement, she didn't tell him anything. Mario and Rico leave.

* Rico and Mario meet with Ascanio near the shop. Ascanio hands them the folded paper. Rico and Mario walk away as Santo passes them and approaches Ascanio. Santo asks him what they wanted. Ascanio says they were there to get the directions for Bernie's relatives.

* Don Augustin visits Ofelia, still distraught, in her sewing room. They discuss Jorge's questioning about Santo's birth and father at the church. She's scared and paranoid. Don Augustin says she can't withhold the information from Santo just because she doesn't like Jorge; there is but one G-d and she isn't it. She's fearful, due to what Jorge did to Cami. Padre tells her to tell Santo the truth now before Jorge does it for her. Ofelia cries, how Padre? Padre says to do it with lots of humility.

* On the street, near her house, Alberto talks with Lupe about when Bernie disappeared and that Vasco came by asking questions and helping search for him, but Bernie still hasn't come home. She's worried. Alberto asks where he could be now? Lupe says maybe he is with his favorite cousin, Eusebia. She goes inside to get the directions. Alberto stands outside puzzled.

* The twins laugh with Santo about the banquet at the reception. Santo sees Don Augustin walk out of the house. Santo walks quickly to him. At the gate bench, Don Augustin tells Santo he has just met with Ofelia, and she needs to tell him something right now. Santo is puzzled and concerned.

* Alberto meets with chief of guards about starting a missing person search for Bernie. His mom Lupe is worried. Alberto tells the chief of guards to only report to him with the information. Alberto leaves. Chief starts to talk with guard.

* Santo enters the sewing room. He is very concerned seeing his mom at the table crying. He mentions what Don Augustin told him outside. He asks her to tell him what's wrong? She says he won't like it. He asks her again. She walks over to him at the doorway and says it's about Jorge. Santo's defensive radar goes off and he presses her for details; he says they can deal with it together. She's scared he'll hate her and will have to deal with it all alone. He continues to press her. She blubbers about keeping the secret for many years - he continues to ask - she stammers and cries that Jorge is his real father as she walks back to brace herself with the table. Santo is muy impactado and can't believe it. He presses her to tell him that it's false, a really horrible, cruel joke. She doesn't say anything, only cries hysterically. He grows angry and upset at discovering the horrible jerk that slept with his fiance right before their wedding is his real father!

* Rita comes out to the kitchen. Ramona is there cooking, and tells her that Don Augustin was just there talking with Ofelia in the sewing room. Rita listens at the door and hears Santo's and Ofelia's voices inside.

* Santo holds Ofelia's shoulders and yells that Jorge raped her, too. Rita enters and interrupts. Santo, upset with tears in his eyes, yells at Rita to leave now; he and his mom are having a private conversation. Rita gets into an argument with him over yelling at his own mother. Santo is angry, upset and resentful. He storms out of the room. Ofelia yells and runs out after him. Rita is dazed and confused.

* Santo runs out past the shop. Ascanio steps out of the stables as Ofelia runs out. Ofelia begs Ascanio to go after him. Ascanio catches up to Santo at the mansion door. The guard tells Santo that Jorge isn't there now. Santo leaves a message and leaves. Ascanio tries to talk to Santo and calm him down. Santo is hostile towards Jorge - he just found out he is Jorge's bastard son; Jorge raped his mother and Cami, and who knows how many other women. Santo and Ascanio walk away.

* In the bedroom, Fran tells Lis about her meeting with Alberto. Alberto has agreed to help them. Alberto made the condition that he can court and marry Lis. Lis states she doesn't want to get married. Fran tells her they have to take advantage of this excellent opportunity; besides he seems really interested in Lis' well-being. Fran explains to Lis that she needs to get interested in him or they may just lose everything to Cami.

* Cami and Rico visit Justo, Paco, Ines and Vasco at the house. Justo is crying in joy while reviewing the purchase contracts and concession papers for the mill. Paco asks why he's crying; Justo attempts to explain. Justo again thanks Rico and Cami for doing this. Vasco seconds the thank you. Paco, Ines and Cami go to the kitchen - Paco gets a slice of watermelon and goes to the corner of the yard to eat it, while Ines and Cami talk about Ines and Vasco's wedding night, as well as Ines now having to get used to Cami being her in-law via Vasco instead of Santo. Ines says she likes Cami better than sour puss Rita. They fix some sangria to drink. Rico explains to Justo and Vasco about his idea to buy a ranch in the area, but he has two ships and a business that are waiting for him also. Vasco asks him about the ships; mentions about pirate captain and two ships. They laugh. They see the chief of police walk into the yard. Vasco walks over to talk with the chief - chief asks Vasco about Bernie, if he knows anything about where he went. Vasco says he doesn't know where Bernie is. Cami and Ines stand at the kitchen door - Ines says how much Vasco has changed. Chief leaves. Vasco returns to the benches as Cami, Ines and Paco rejoin the group. Vasco explains to Justo how truly repentant he is about the situation. Vasco then tells the group that Lupe is really worried; Bernie still hasn't returned home.

* Out in the hillside meadow, Santo stops walking and vents to Ascanio his hostility and disillusionment over the revelation that he is the bastard son of el Senor de San Fernando; that Jorge raped his own mother and Cami. Ascanio tries to calm Santo down by using reason about Ofelia and Santo's dad. Santo is still pretty miffed and starts walking again. Ascanio shakes his head, rubs his hand on his forehead and then follows.

* In Alberto's office, the chief reports to Alberto the preliminary search results - nothing found so far. Alberto thanks him; he leaves. Alberto thinks for a moment, then picks up his stuff from the hall table and leaves.

* In the courtyard, Jorge returns home. The guard tells him that Santo stopped by for a visit and will return later; also Alberto is waiting in his office. Jorge stops and tells the guard to let Santo come in when he returns.

* In the office, Jorge enters and starts talking with Alberto - Alberto has started his own private investigation plan for the stolen cows. Jorge is stunned that Alberto would go and do that without orders from Jorge, or regards to helping resolve the Gonzalo situation. Alberto explains he is doing this plan for his own interest. Jorge asks if his interest supercedes Jorge's now. Jorge mentions the caravans and planning an assault on the next one, as well as dealing with Gonzalo - if he becomes a loose cannon, they are both doomed. Alberto agrees to handle Gonzalo. Guard interrupts to announce that Don Augustin is there. Jorge ushers him inside. Alberto laughs about the Padre visiting Jorge. Jorge asks Alberto to stay for the meeting. Don Augustin enters and reports to Jorge that he met with Ofelia. Padre still wonders why Jorge is so interested - for curiosity or seriously? Jorge says depends on the information given. Padre nods. Jorge asks, so is he or isn't he? Padre says yes, he is your son. Alberto is puzzled and asks who is it? Jorge says, Santo. Alberto is impactado, and mentions how his suspicions all these months have been right. Jorge thanks Don Augustin at the door. Jorge closes the door.

* Don Augustin walks to the entry hall as Sofia and Tita enter. Sofia has Tita run along now. Sofia and Don Augustin talk about his meetings with Jorge and Ofelia about Santo. Sofia says she mentioned it to Jorge. Padre says yes. Sofia asks about Ofelia's reaction. He says that she's scared and really hysterical now. Padre is concerned that Jorge still hasn't said if he will actually recognized Santo has his son or not.

* In the office, Alberto and Jorge talk about the problems and implications that will arise from recognizing Santo has his heir; Alberto is also concerned about the business dealings. Sofia bursts in and interrupts. She wants to discuss Santo and her advice to Jorge about this is to do it the same way he handled Justo and his businesses. Jorge is curt with her. She wants to take Ursula to the capital and visit the archbishop. Jorge denies the petition outright. Sofia says fine and leaves. Jorge and Alberto discuss why Sofia wanted to take the trip - Jorge thinks it was to tell the archbishop of his bastard son and force him to recognize him.

* In the bedroom, Rita tries to press Ofelia to open up about what happened in the sewing room just now. Rita reminds her that she is a part of the family, don't shut her out. Ofelia stays silent. Rita attempts to guess who it is about, maybe Jorge - Rita is shocked in her imagination. Ofelia says no it isn't, shut up. Ramona interrupts and says Ascanio is outside to see her. Ofelia flies outside with Ramona. Rita follows.

* Ofelia visits with Ascanio out in the kitchen - they discuss Santo. Santo didn't see Jorge because he wasn't at the mansion. Rita overhears the conversation, especially the part about Santo being Jorge's son - she's impactado and very excited to be the son of the Senor de San Fernando. Ofelia cries and asks how Santo feels about her - Ascanio assures her that Santo is a reasonable guy who is sensitive and understanding. You think so? asks Ofelia. Ascanio says, yes, and that's why he's at Monte Carmelo monastery right now.

Rita is a piece of work that's for sure. You could see the wheels in her head spinning now that she knows Santi is Jorge's son. The pace has definitely picked up and today looks to be another doozy LOL. Sitting back and enjoying the ride.

Captain Jr.: Thank you. Poor Bernabe - he's toast any way you look at it. He's now got Ric and Mario and LaFont and Jorge on his tail. Oh, well.

And as for Rita, egad, does she really think she's going to be Lady of the Manor? That character really is crazy.

From lower Ala

Finally got Grita to crack a smile! The first thought in her mind is about how this is good news for her.

Gotta say, Cami is spoiled beyond belief. (At least she hasn't started throwing Ursula fits yet.) She doesn't want guards around because it makes her uncomfortable, and what might people think? Okay princess, whatever you say. Jorge is just the big jefe, but he (or anyone else) can't do anything to you. It's another thing for Ric to worry about...

Woo! Someone mentioned late in yesterday's comments that Lis had been holding her father's cane the other night. I'm sorry that totally went over my head in the recap. I think the idea was that she was trying to channel her father's evil craftiness into herself so as to plot a good revenge for Camila.

Based on the previews for tonight's (Wednesday's) episode, I think it worked.

Captain JR, thank you for another riveting recap. GRita is simply divine as the harpy one loves to hate. She's just getting nuttier and nuttier. I wonder if Santiago will comb his hair when he gets to be Lord of the Manor? I think it's hilarious that Ascanio's hair is always perfectly coiffed and Santiago's...never.

Cap'n Sylvia: You know, I was wondering about Santi's hair myself. You'd think that a blacksmith would tie it back or cut it off for crying out loud. He always looks like a mess.

Now he's an out-of-control, good-man churchgoing mess.

I noticed that Santiago is STILL giving ugly looks to Ricardo as if he's still saying 'who does he think he is'. Note to Santiago: Ricardo took nothing away from you. And if you can't support efforts of this man to love and protect Camilla, then maybe you don't love Camilla at all.

As for gRita, I remember she expressed envy of Camilla having money. But it surprises me that she so QUICKLY followed the money that her husband will inherit! AND THE POSITION!!! She is now not just a sick bore, she is a dangerous, sick, boring, vindictive person.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Grita smiles! Now I suppose she'll vant to be alone, to count her imaginery pesos. Poor Ofelia...her heart is breaking & you had to feel sorry for Saintly too. After all, Whorehey has to be the last person on earth he'd want as a father...& he gets Whoresula as a sister. Ew! Talk about the polar opposite of Ines. And yes, Saintly, please do something with that hair.

Costume comment #2: if the Boys of the Forge go bare-chested under their leather aprons, why hasn't Ascanio done the same?

Not enough Ric but plenty of action!
:-0

I don't really care if Santiago gets the money and position, but Rita must die beforehand. She is already corrupted. I can't imagine how much worse she would be with power and money.

Mad Maggie, I had assumed that the twins and Santo are shirtless because they work directly around the flaming volcanos, or what ever they're called. But Ascanio does not because he's a newbie. I think he was assigned to mold shaping and drafting tasks.

I didn't get a chance to comment on this yesterday, but I have never seen someone on one of these shows do such a horrible job of pretending to love someone just for sex as with Vasco and Ines at the beginning of this episode. He couldn't have been any more unconvincing. I guess it's to show us that it takes time to change, not overnight. "we're married, get over here and get naked. Yeah yeah I love you too whatever let's get to it."

Capt. Bonnie: well, let's get Ascanio working with fire so we can see some nekkidness!
(oh, I am SO trashy)

Ferro: Vasco never had to work too hard to get Whoresula in the mood...guess he's flummoxed when he's with a nice girl!

I'm not sure if Vasco was even supposed to appear to be attracted to Ines. The only time he ever made a move for her before, he was blind drunk. On their wedding night, it seemed like he was just doing his husbandly duty and trying to make the best of it. As for Ines, she looked like she was practically crying.

Well...now GRita is going to really be full of herself! Yes, she needs to die....and soon!!!

Saintly DOES need to do something with the scraggly hair.....like comb it!!!

Every night more and more interesting things happen....Can't wait. Unfortunately, Thursday they will be showing a Premio lo Nuestro so there goes THAT show!

Santi is still giving Ric the big stink eye, as you said cpt bonney morgan! Again, what does love have to do with it? Nothing. This is about Santi's ego and his inability to admit/accept he made a stupid mistake...
jb-Iron Jack Cash

Well, Camila is actually right about people misinterpreting her bodyguards. But she is still in her delusional world - "Jorge won't do anything, the letter won't be found, I really don't know why you are worrying dear".

Thanks so much for these recaps. I speak absolutely no spanish but began watching this telenovas during the writer's strike and making the script up in my head until I found your website. I understand however, from listening to NY radio talk shows that I'm not the only one!
As for Santiago, I've heard of drama queens but Santi is the epitome of a "drama king"! He is really beginning to annoy me...what happened to looking on the bright side? (so much for now understanding what's going on). He might even have enough cash now for a shampoo and haircut. He truly belongs with his wife.

Well the themes in today's comments seem to be Santiago's very messy hair, ala Pasofino's best description: an out-of-control, good-man churchgoing mess!! too funny and too true. Will he make a good rich man and enjoy the advantages of being Whorhey's best work??

Grita's face can make a smile without cracking into thousands of gritty pieces. She is going to be insufferable. Let's help write alternative death scenes now, OKAY?? Don't make me wait for her so well deserved demise.... Maybe she'll trip in her first ball gown and fall headfirst down those big stairs at the mansion. Maybe the roast pheasant under glass will have glass splinters in it that will stick in her craw...

Is it possible to die of smugness? Maybe Rita will find out.

Anon 2:48, I'm really glad you found us! Thank you for commenting.

Not only is Ascanio o o o a hot blacksmith, he seems to be one of a very small number of people in San Fernando with a functioning brain. I love this man.

With her nose high in the air as the new member of San Fernando's finest family, Grita takes a stroll in her new life of leisure and walks off the side of the river bank. No one bothers to save her.

What I heard in the conversation when Mario was telling Ric about Fran's visit to La Bouffant was this: Mario asked Ric if he thought Lis would tell him the purpose of Fran's visit and he said: Lo dudo. I doubt it. I think this point is important, unless I misunderstood the scene. To me this meant that Ric no longer thinks of his "prima" as a totally sweet blind girl. He's waking up to Fran and Lis being a PAIR of snakes and that she wouldn't tell him what happened.

Rita's broad smile after eavesdropping on Santiago and Ascanio made my blood boil. I'm sure what's really causing her to grin is thinking about how she can lord it over her sister when she's the wife of the heir.

Whoa~~~I haven't even read the recap yet...I always read the comments first, and today there were some very meaty comments. I took notes !!! First, Mad Maggie~~~Caray ! I think that we may ACTUALLY be related ! It's the ''trashiness'' factor. I, too, say , ''Let's get Ascanio o o nekkid ASAP'' almost constantly in my head [Last night, I might have said it outloud.] And Capn Morgan, one can never be TOO cautious about one's nice clothes, so even when drafting or mold shaping, one should always remove one's shirt. I think it might be a law. OR...let's get Ascanio o o moving toward the forge of flaming volcanoes muy pronto, por favor. I also agree that if Santiago REALLY loved Camila, he would be happy that she's happy and support Ric's ability to protect her. Now , about Santiago's mane....here's my theory : I think that he was a trendsetter...ahead of his time...He is actually channeling Steven Tyler [Areosmith]...Think about it..Do you have a visual of Steven in your head ???~~~En fin, I rest my case..Santiago was the first rocker wannabe in Mexico. Can't wait for tonight's episode.

Anonymous~~~I agree Ascanio o o seems to be the proud owner of a functioning brain, a bathtub, a nice white shirt, and a comb. He's got it all going on. ,,,now if he would just lose that shirt.

Mad Bess: LOL! Mi hermana en trashiness!
;-)

Uh-oh..we have 2 really rotten people teaming up..Tia and Alberto. Tia should be ashamed of herself for trying to push Lis into the arms of that sneaky snake with the bad do. On the other hand, Lis is getting nastier and meaner as she becomes more and more obsessed and delusional about RicRicRic , so I suppose she desrves snaky Aloberto. Also, Alberto is sneaking around behind Jorge's back now....hmmm, I wonder what's going to happen with that. Alberto treats Jorge like a buffoon. He seems to think he is the real power behind Jorge even though Jorge has the title. Finally, I am trying to think up an appropriate death for GRita....hmmm...maybe she gets a little too close to the forge one day and whoopsee... toasted Grita......or how about getting her apron caught on that big old waterwheel down by the old mill stream as she is picking up some mud to throw at Camila???...or perhaps a run-in with a feisty donkey one afternoon on the streets of San Fernando ????...I'm still working on it...Later Gators.

Isn't it more likely GRita will die in childbirth? I betcha Camila raises this kid, either with Saintly (Ric dies nobly) or with Ric (Saintly dies nobly).

I think that whomever has top billing among the males in the opening credits, gets the girl...and a bag of chips. In Amor Real, in the beginning, Manuel was the villain who married Matilde by virtually ''buying'' her from her mother and taking her away from her onetruelove. He slapped her after the boda when he found out that she planned to run off with her onetruelove and then forced himself on her on their noche de boda. Later, he threw her out when he thought that the baby she was expecting was her lover's child . Then , he fell into a period of drunken depression, after which he took a bath and had an affair with his nasty housekeeper. Then , he was responsible for her father's heart attack. BUT..Fernando had top billing, so he still ended up as the hero with the girl. I did not like his character in this one...ask my hub...I used to yell bad names at the screen when I watched it for the first time. I do not like''heroes'' who abuse women...even when they are portayed by my chief telenovio...Fernandoooooo. And so, I cast my vote for Ric being the one who wins the prize [?...Camila] at the end of this long and winding road.

Whoops...Grammar alert~~~~''WHOEVER has top billing''...Mea Culpa

I too agree that Ascanio needs to lose the shirt..at least one time.

Looks like Bernabe is fish bait.

Santi having his world turned upside town....wow! Wonder if he'll use this to his advantage to discredit Ric in Cami's eyes. You could literally see the dollar signs in Rita's after she overheard that Santi is Jorge's son. Wonder if she'll take smugness to a new extreme? I can't wait until Ursula tells her a thing or two (possible kitty cat fight???).

If Fernando doesn't get the girl on this show, he can always come to TX & look me up (lol).

You did it again JR, thanks for an excellant recap. I'm very happy for Santi despite the hatred most commenters continuously focus on. I like Ric and Ascanio also. But I'm not bird brain enough to focus only on a man's physical attributes. There's numerous porn sites for that. I'm in this for the story behind the action. There are characters that I don't like like Rita but I want her to have her baby and go to some far away island. Those of you who want her dead will probably get your wish because that's the same old, same old way novela's work. Princess Cami and Prince Rick will probably end up with Rita and Santi's baby. So many negative comments about his hair .. as if that would make anyone like him? Well buckle up all you Santi haters and enjoy the show. I think I think Sanit's in for a very bumpy ride in the upcoming episodes. Of course let's not discuss that. It's too much fun just focusing on the insignificant things that have minimal impact on the story line. I for one will watch the upcoming episodes for the drama of his plight.

Just want to add that I foresee a possible confrontation looming between Mario and Lafont, since both of them seem to be on the way to find Bernabe.

And btw, I like to call Vasco "Bosco" because that's how they pronounce it!

I'm not totally convinced they will kill off GRita even though she seems pretty unredeemable thus far. Cami is so soft-hearted, it would leave a dark cloud over her and maybe spoil a happy ending. Maybe some miracle will melt her cold, cold heart. She hasn't actually killed anyone (yet).

Santi can be very annoying but he's a victim in this. He's just been pushed to the edge by the unrelenting disasters he's faced since Cami's horrible night with Jorge. I can't imagine he'll want to inherit anything from the hated Jorge -- unless in some way it could help him rescue Cami. It was easier for Cami to move on from Santi because a good man came along, while he is stuck with the untameable shrew. Imagine if Cami had been married off to Gonzalo as Jorge wanted. She might yet be pining for Santi.

I look forward to any Carla Estrada production because of the socially-conscious themes that give you something to chew on. But if I were to meet her, I'd have to thank her also for providing some delicious eye candy to balance everything out. And for this one, I consider Ascanio to be the GQ model of the town. I already had the pleasure of seeing him stripped down in Amar Sim Limites, so I'm more than satisfied seeing him well coiffed and groomed while doing all his good deeds in his quiet, manly way.

Cap'n Sylvia Sharkbait: I didn't mean to mislead on the quote in yesterday's comments. That's from a song, not from Sofia. It just seemed perfect for that couple.
Captain JR, thanks for the recap.

I had the same thought as many others: the first time in months that we see gRita smile, it's evil glee at her first-lady-of-San Fernando future. She needs a dramatic and deadly exit. (AFTER the reveal of the stolen/hidden letter.)
I would like Mario to get rid of LaFont while they're both out on the road. Then things could fall apart for Whorehey.
This TN is moving along at a fast pace, very little idle time without plot movement.
La Paloma

Here's what I don't get about the whole thing about the possibility of Ricardo going back to pirating: Camila objects to this because of the danger to him (and consequent anxiety to her), but she doesn't seem to have any qualms about pirating being an immoral, illegal activity.

Ricardo points out to Camila that widows and orphans are depending on him because they're poor -- but pirates kill people (thus making *other* people widows and orphans) and steal their stuff (thus making *other* people poor).

So how can he justify pirating? And how come Camila doesn't have the slightest objection to his pirating on the basis that killing people and stealing their stuff isn't, you know, a good thing to be doing?

This seems to me like a big oversight in the logic of the plot.

Actually, I am not sure that the pirating that Ric wants to do now is illegal, although it is probably immoral and dangerous. He wanted to get a privateer's licence from the Spanish Crown, which means he'd be raiding English and French ships (They all did this against eachother).

Nevertheless, Ric would have his work cut out for him, the British Navy was approaching it's mastery of the seas at this point. English pirates (like Foreman) probably had an easier time than the Spanish, French or no flagged pirates.

Yeah, I agree Vasco was pretty unconvincing when Ines came to bed, but dang, she didn't help matters any. I know she was virginal and scared, but she acted like she was walking to the gallows or something. Lighten up, girl! At least it's not Old Tim or Whorehey in the bed. Vasco looked mighty tasty.

Yeah, okay, Santi's hair is a hot mess. But it's not his hair I'm interested in. ;) Poor thing. Not one good thing has happened to him the whole novela. I'd cry all the time if I got shafted like that too.

I vote for gRita dying in childbirth. Who do I bribe?

J. R., thanks for the great recap! As usual, I’m a couple of days behind. The thanks are always heartfelt, though!

“he will make more than enough money for them to live happily and have many, many kids together. They smile and coo.” Although I’m not fond of re-hash from the night before, I always love the rehashes of these scenes. Ferro may FF, but there’s no FF in this house.

If Fran thinks Alberto is such a catch, why doesn’t she court him? (Dumb question, but so is Alberto marrying Lis).

Rita needs to be discarded soon. She’s making us as crazy as she is. Imagine being delighted that your husband is some jerk’s bastard instead of belonging to the father he knew and loved.
