Pasión, Monday 3/31: Papa Don't Preach

Key points are highlighted in maroon for quick reviewing convenience and bile avoidance.

Camila and Jimena jump up and down with the joy of realizing that Camila is pregnant. Camila prays that Ric will get to meet his child.

A man sings the Pasión theme with Fernando Lima at Santiago's party. I would love to tell you who this man is, but I don't know. His audience must not be able to hear him too well because I don't see anyone crying. (While everyone else is looking at the singer, Justo seems to look around for someone... not sure if that was intentional, or if it was an out-of-character moment.)

During the song, Ric's friends carefully carry him back onto the ship for a potentially fatal journey.

Back at the party, everyone is still watching the singers. I notice Jorge is holding the baby. Vasco and Ines almost look at one another. Uriel watches Ursula, who ignores him.

Lis remarks on the beautiful singing. Lafont just shrugs, "yeah, real nice." He thinks this would be a good time to discuss whether Rita is "adequate" to be wife of the future señor of SF. She seems ambitious and unclassy. Lis is like, well, she's Camila's sister, so she can't be much better. She shushes Lafont so she can hear the singer better. Lucky for her, it's considered bad manners to beat your fiancee at your best friend's son's grand debut party.

Eustaquio the judge, Marcelino the town clerk, and a twerpy guy go to an outdoor pub afterwards. "Turns out that Ric guy's a pirate just like Gonzalo said, oooooooooo," etc... The judge remembers that Lafont warned him the man was dangerous and untrustworthy. The twerp wonders why they didn't turn him in. He feels sorry for Camila. His real name was Salamanca, yeah, that's Lis's cousin, ohmigosh...

The message to us is that everybody knows all about it now. The cat is out of the bag. The beans have been spilt. The can of worms has been opened. The bell has passed the point at which it can be unrung. The general tone is sympathetic towards Camila.

Therefore, one would suppose, Justo could start getting over it.

But hold on...

Jimena and Camila are discussing when to tell people about the pirate-sprout. Cami would like to wait until she hears some news of Ric first. She wishes he could know about this, since he's always wanted to have a family.

They hush when Ines and Vasco come along. Ines raves about the party. (Does Vasco hints that Santi is getting conceited?) Ines says of course he was flattered, but he'll never change. As for Rita, Ines says, mimicking, she was acting like the wife of the viceroy of New Spain. Cami says Justo was tired and is resting in his room. Vasco tells Cami there was a lot of gossipy talk about Ricard. "And about me?" Cami asks. She says she doesn't care, but runs away crying. He asks what he can do so she'll forgive him. She says he's not to blame for people finding out about Ric.

Santi, Rita, and Ana are at home. Rita gushes about the party. Santi says, "I liked the music." Rita says just imagine having music like that whenever you want it. Mr. Grumpypants warns her not to be corrupted by earthly pleasures, but she says even Jesus enjoyed some wine at the wedding in Caanan. Santi's jaw drops, and he looks down hurriedly. She insists that he'll like it - why shouldn't they be glad to be freed from the bonds of their lives?

Ofelia interrupts the blasphemy (as Santi sees it), and looks in on the baby. She doesn't say anything while Rita boasts about the great party they threw for her husband, the good music, the fancy food, how nice everyone was, Sofia was so friendly, and even asked about Ofelia. Ofelia soberly informs Rita that the baby needs changing. Rita takes the baby and cheerfully says she'll tell Ofelia the rest later.

Ofelia gets Santi some water and tells him she didn't go to the party because "that's not my world." She tells him not to think it means that she disapproves of what he's doing. (Their conversation has a chilly tone.)

He asks about Camila. Ofelia says she seemed sad and uncomfortable in church; it was probably hard for her to attend. He says he appreciates it because he knows what she did for him.

She asks if he thinks Ric is alive. He says he doesn't know, but if he is, it'd be better if he didn't come back. Ofelia just watches this strange man drinking water in her kitchen.

Night time. Cami is praying to Virgencita that Ric isn't dead. "Save him! You were a mother, please understand."

Later that night, Vasco wakes Ines in bed (she now sleeps in Paco's room). He needs to speak with her - it's important! He takes her into his room, and her vexation turns into regular anger when she realizes that it's essentially a booty call. Imagine someone waking you in the middle of the night to say that he's really horny, except he's saying "sorry" instead of "horny" as if you can't tell the difference. That's what this is like. She tells him off. She tells him to prove he loves her and not be looking at Ursula. ("But she was looking at me!") (I double-checked, and they weren't looking at each other at the party, at least not in tonight's scenes.) He needs Ines to help him with the temptation! She turns him down cold. If he wants her back he'll have to clean up his act. He makes a crack about her maybe preferring Ascanio. She gives him a dirty look and flounces out.

WAKE UP, SLACKERS! It's daytime already, hope you had a nice sleep. Vasco is still in a bad mood when he goes to the mill, where Ascanio is doing paperwork. He accuses Ascanio of being up to something with Ines - he's always finding them chatting together late at night. "We live in the same house," Ascanio says. Vasco says he doesn't have to talk to her. Ascanio takes Vasco's accusations about as well as Ines took his romantic noises last night. I think he's showing great restraint, considering he's had no action for... well, we can't even guess at how long. He reminds Vasco that she turned him down in favor of Vasco. Vasco says she has since rejected him and started sleeping in Paco's room. Ascanio says it wasn't because of him, and he's always treated them with respect, as well as Vasco's father. But he'll move out today if Vasco wants. Perhaps he's been abusing their friendship anyway.

Santi limps to the palacio in his finery. He and Jorge talk about the party; Santi says he shouldn't have taken so much trouble. Jorge asks what he thought of the singer; Santi says "I liked the music." (At this moment you have to be grateful that this is a period novela, because if this had been Destilando Amor, Frankie the Grifter would come in and tell you where to buy the MP3.) He thinks Jorge for his support and for letting "that man" (Ric) go. Jorge says he did it because Santi is his son and because he's not spiteful. Anyway, Ric's probably dead by now.

Jorge asks about Cami. Santi says he doesn't know - he hasn't spoken to her. Jorge says he'll forget her eventually. (Or she will forget him. Or it will be forgotten. Not good with those pronouns.) He says he's getting their rooms set up - one for him, and one for his wife and child. He wants them to move in as soon as possible.

He also says Fukuda wants to start the treatments. Yosihei has already left, and Fukuda can't hang around much longer. Santi is skeptical that he'll be healed, since his mom and Doc Nicanor said he can't be cured. Jorge says, well, these Oriental people have strange ways, so who knows? They could be fakes, or they could know more than we do. It doesn't hurt to try.

Jorge tells Saintly that being a señor isn't just about parties and orgies (francachelas). (Santi indicates that he's never really been into parties and orgies.) Jorge says that's his loss, but he wants to teach him about matters of - for lack of a better English word - señority. You have to mediate disagreements, work out infrastructure matters, collect taxes... Santiago doesn't look happy about this last subject (I think it was the excuse given for taking away Justo's mill and mercantile concessions).

Uriel, Mateo and Lafont are having drinks and eating peanuts at Friday's. They talk about how happy Jorge is with Santiago and wonder what will happen if Santi finds out about their scheme. Lafont thinks Jorge will be keeping him busy doing good deeds in the pueblo instead.

Lafont asks Uriel how it's going with Ursula. Uriel indicates that Ursula has... I'm not sure how to say it exactly... something like she's given him liberties. Lafont tells him to take advantage and show her what a macho he is.

Lafont says he himself will be married in less than two weeks. Mateo congratulates him on his catch, saying "that blind woman is worth a fortune." (Hello, doesn't anyone know her name?) Lafont tells Mateo to show more respect for his future wife. Uriel tries to stifle a smirk as Lafont turns to glare at him too.

"The blind woman" is snuggling in bed with her doll, weeping. Fran comes in and disapproves of the crying. Lis says she just can't accept that Ricardo is dead. Fran opens the window and tries to talk her niece out of her funk. Back in La Mariana, sometimes months or years would pass without them seeing him. Lis says doubt is not the same thing as certainty. Doesn't Fran feel anything? Fran shrugs and says sure - the death of my nephew. "The nephew whose life you ruined," Lis accuses. Fran says that was Lis's father's idea, not hers, and she couldn't defy his orders.

Fran wants them to go to the dressmaker tomorrow. Lis doesn't see why. "Did you forget? For your wedding dress!" Since she didn't want to go to Ofelia, Lafont sent for one from another town.

But Lis doesn't wanna get married. Fran scolds Lis for thinking she could sneak away with Ric - what else can she do now? Lis tells Fran to drop dead because it's her fault. Fran reminds her she's the one who started yelling when she found out Camila was going. Lis says Fran shouldn't have gone to warn Alberto.

"I did it because I knew you were going to do something crazy."
"Who asked you?"
"Though you may not want to admit it, I have been your eyes, your ears - I've been a mother to you."
"A bad mother."

Fran looks sad.

Telenovela experts, weigh in please: does condemning your aunt's mothering skills qualify you for the death sentence?

Ursula and Fortunata approach the forge. Fortunata sounds disapproving; Ursula is saying she wants to help Manuela. Fortunata says she doesn't want to help, she's just bored and looking for something to do.

Ursula flirts with the twins and asks for Ascanio. They redirect her to the mill. After she leaves, one of the twins asks the other if Ursula's interested in him now. I think the other one says "I hope so, because I don't like that fancy Uriel."

Ascanio (NO-SHIRT ALERT! NO-SHIRT ALERT!!) is helping some other men push the wheel at the mill when he sees his lady visitors and immediately puts on his shirt. Ursula eye-rapes him, pulls him aside and sets up a meeting with him tomorrow afternoon in a little stand of trees nearby. She wants to talk to him about Manuela. He is hesitant; she laughs at his interest and tells him to button up so he doesn't catch cold. After they leave, Ursula tells Fortunata she kinda wishes she'd made that appointment for herself. Fortunata scolds her - she's engaged! Ursula says she's not yet, and she can do what she wants until she does marry Uriel. She's slept with him, though, and it wasn't too bad, but she's not convinced yet!

Ines and Camila chat. Ines is complaining about Vasco and how when she turned him down he got jealous of Ascanio. Then she stops herself and says Cami's problems are greater. Cami says no, we're family, so your problems are my problems... but Ines wins and they talk about whether Ric is alive or dead. Ines is optimistic. Then Camila confides that the little stick turned blue. Paco overhears and hopes his new cousin will be boy.

Justo comes along at that moment, and before anyone has a chance to control the situation, Paco tells Justo he's getting a new cousin. Justo is happy when he thinks Ines is pregnant, but he is disgusted when Paco sets him straight.

Justo and Cami go in the house and he gives her hell for dishonoring the family with a pirate. She has filled the family with shame. He and his father before him and his grandfather and his father before that have always guarded the family's honor, and she's managed to cover them all in muck.

Hee tells her to sit down and says "this cannot continue. The child of a pirate - another sample of our shame!" Cami says a baby is always a blessing.

Justo says she's always been his favorite daughter, but maybe he doted on her too much. He should have been tougher on her and he has two other children and two grandchildren to think about.

Camila says that's fair enough, but she's not giving up her baby. Justo is impactado. I guess it doesn't occur to him that since everyone already knows about her and Ric, a baby isn't going to make things any worse.

Outside, a letter arrives for Camila. Ines and Jimena stare at it with excitement.

Cami is begging her father to let her have her baby. (I am pretty sure she means "let me keep it after it's born instead of giving it to the nuns" as opposed to... you know... but I gotta say, the way they're talking, it's hard to be sure. He really seems to want it to stop existing.)

He wants her to hide her "shame." She says you can't hide a pregnancy. He says yes you can. (Does he have reason to think so? Does he know someone who's done this? Sofia, maybe? Or is he just being insane?)

She gets on her knees and begs. She'll leave town if he wishes, as long as she can have her baby. He coldly agrees and says he'll work out where she'll go. She thanks him and says she always knew he was a pious man.

He says yes he is pious, but he also has to think about the family's good name. "And why? When Jorge ordered us to say that he had deflowered me, you agreed! You didn't think of MY good name!" He says she's been living with that "ruffian" too long who doesn't respect the norms, laws, and morals of society. She says he's wrong about Ric; Justo says SHE'S wrong. The negative talk about her WOULD calm down, but not if she's going around with a swollen belly.

He asks who knows. It's just Jimena, Ines, and Paco. Justo says no one else must find out about this.

Dad sends the maid out and tells Jimena and Ines that no one must know. NOBODY. (Except for the people he's going to blab it to in a few minutes.) Not Vasco, etc. Cami is crying her eyes out. He tells Ines to tell Paco not to tell. He stalks off.

Cami tells Ines and Jimena she has to leave town. They show her the letter from el Chino, which says that Ric's no longer at the Iguana. A few days ago they departed for parts unknown. His men will protect him, so they couldn't say any more about that, but they did he say he was doing poorly.

Justo goes to the forge, looking for Santiago. The twins ask him if Santi's told him anything about the future of the forge. Justo says no, but he doubts Santi would give up the forge. The twins say Santi hasn't told them anything and they've been a little worried.

He sees Rita nearby, chatting with well-dressed people. She greets him like someone she hasn't seen in ten years. She brags about moving into the palacio and the Oriental healer who's treating Santi. She fans herself haughtily and looks around to see if anyone's watching her fan herself.

Jorge and Marcelino are talking business. Marcelino is a bit confused by some paperwork he's been asked to sign. Jorge says he needs his help to "legalize" some goods for sale at Uriel's store. Marcelino says it's supposed to be overseas merchandise, yet it was made in Veracruz. "I know," Jorge says. "Make it so it doesn't come from Veracruz." Shocked, Marcelino asks point-blank if it's for contraband material. "You could say that," Jorge says. Marcelino says it's dangerous and difficult. He mops his brow. Jorge says nobody's going to stick their nose in those papers. Marcelino is very nervous.

"I don't have the proper seals."
"Have them made."
"Fakes? Here?"
"In Salvatierra, or in Valle City... wherever."

He continues to wince about it until Jorge gives him a choice between a piece of the action, or losing his job. This clarifies the situation for Marcelino, and he agrees to do it.

Justo arrives at the palacio as Santi is saying goodbye to Fukuda. I guess it didn't work out today, but they're going to look for another chi path or something tomorrow. After Fukuda leaves, Santi tells Justo how he was all covered with needles. Justo wishes him luck in getting rid of the limp and says that Camila needs to leave town because she's pregnant with Ric's pirate-spawn. (One extra person knows now.)

Ines is telling Paco not to tell anyone. Paco doesn't understand. Ines says it's because Ric had to leave. He still doesn't get - he's excited and wants to tell. Ines says Cami's going through some tough times, and if word gets out she will suffer for it.

Justo is telling Santi how awful it is for him, personally, the family honor, etc. etc. first with Vasco and Ines, and now this. Pirates, fake marriage, lost inheritance, jail, slavery... if it hadn't been for Santiago it would have ended right there... and now this.

Wow. It sucks to be Justo, huh? Like that time he went to jail... oh wait... that was Santi, then Ric, then Cami. Or that time Justo lost all of his money... oh wait, that was Ric and then Cami. Or that time he was a slave... oh wait... that was Cami too.

And then there was the time when that selfish bitch bought Justo the mill concession that had been in his honorable family for generations. And then when she went to jail, what's-his-name, that greedy SOB pirate husband of hers, went out and risked his life to raise the money to pay off EVERYTHING so that Justo wouldn't owe a cent.

No wonder Justo's full of self-pity, and anger against Cami and Ric. What's wrong with this picture?

Santiago looks even queasier than Camila right now, believe it or not. I can't tell whether he's nauseated more by Camila's actions, or by Justo's words, which are certainly making me queasy. He starts to tell Justo not to get so upset - it's bad for his health. Then Jorge comes in and wants to know what's happening. He can tell it's something really heavy. Santi tells Jorge. (Now two extra people know.) Jorge calls them into his chambers for a private talk.

Justo says he's hoping to send her away, and then after the baby is born... well, we'll see. It's just that when she starts to show, the people are never going to stop talking. Santiago adds that if Ric comes back he'll try to find her. Jorge doesn't think he's still alive, but he'll have guards to keep watch.

Justo suggests hooking her up with a convent, but Jorge disagrees. (I'm thinking that's the first place Ric would look.) They ponder how to explain Camila's extended absence.

The women talk in the bedroom. Camila thinks that if Ric were well, he'd send her a note. Jimena says it wouldn't have arrived yet. Ines is being optimistic again. She cajoles Camila into a better mood. Cami says she's not barfing too much. Cami prays for a healthy baby and looks forward to how happy Ric will be when he finds out about the baby. (Ines is so much better at this than Tia Fran is.)

Justo and Santi wrap up their conversation at the forge. He reminds Santiago not to tell anyone, not even Rita. Well... maybe Santi's mom, because she's a saint. Justo is in a much better mood now, and grateful to Jorge for taking the trouble to help them. They'll be in touch later.

Now Jorge is telling Lafont and warning him not to tell anyone. (Three extra people know.) He doesn't want Ric to find her, if by some miracle of God or the devil he's still alive, so they need a good hiding place. (I'm sure Lafont is thinking of that closet in his house.) Lafont remembers a property called Garbancillo that Jorge got in exchange for a debt. Small, easy to watch.

Lafont asks Jorge to be his best man at the wedding. He wants something from the Salamanca Bridal Collection to give to Lis. (I always thought Lafont kept that one ugly necklace, but maybe Jorge convinced him to leave it.) Jorge asks if Lafont wants to reward her for trying to escape with her cousin. Lafont says he will address her boldness in some other manner.

"You've always been perverse (sick)," Jorge chuckles.
"And you're getting soft over your saintly son," Lafont replies.
"We'll see who convinces (turns) whom," Jorge laughs.

Later, Jorge tells Santi they're going to send Cami to Garbancillo. He says he's sorry he can't come along, but Lafont has offered to lead the way. He assures Santi that Lafont is his right hand, but Santi says he doesn't trust him. "Don't worry, he won't blab." He'll just help out and meet with the servants - they know him. Jorge promises that Santi will be giving all the orders. Santi is grateful. Jorge says no, don't thank me - don't you know I'm glad to make you happy?

On the boat, Mario enters the makeshift sickbay in a foul mood. A busty wench is leaning all over Ric (Paisana is taking a break). He is still feverish, but his temperature has gone down. She says they're running low on herbs. She tells Mario that Ric's been mumbling things she doesn't understand about that chick Camila. Mario starts fiddling with the things on the table, probably to prepare another poultice.

Back in San Fernando, the time has come. Ines sees Santi and Justo crossing the yard. She runs into the bedroom and warns Cami and Jimena that Santi's here. Cami comes down and gets a frosty reception from the men. Justo tells her to sit down and tells her he asked Santi for help. They ask how far along she is - she thinks she's just over two months. They're going to send her to a little town, but they won't tell her where. "I'm going to be a prisoner?" "That's for your security," Santiago says, because "the pirate" (he and Lis are in the same boat, so to speak, in terms of no one wanting to say their names) might not be dead and could try to take her away.

"I hope so!" Camila cries. Justo grabs her and says if only she would just show some remorse! She says she has nothing to repent. She has no remorse for loving him, being his wife, or expecting his child.

He yells and shoves her around, and they struggle. "Control yourself! I didn't raise you to become the whore of a pirate!"

Santi reaches for them hesitantly, as if he hopes that waving his hands in their general direction will make them stop fighting.

¡¡¡¡ El Gran Final !!!!

Kidding. (Hey, it's April First!)

Lafont tells Lis about the pregnancy and the plan, then tells her not to tell anyone. (This makes four extra people who know... each of whom has been told to tell no one...)

I hope I didn't overdo my wrath against Justo, but really, could he possibly be more full of crap??

I love Justo. April Fools! Yes, he is certainly trying my patience. He probably won't receive it but he needs to be on the payback list maybe nearer the bottom and with La Font at the top of course.

Thank you for the detailed and funny recap.

Hm... That's twice in as many episodes that Ascanio has offered to move out. Looking for any excuse? He's probably afraid he's going to catch the BSC if he sticks around much longer.

Vasco obviously doesn't know how to tell Ines how sorry he is himself, so as per the therapy his family so badly, badly seems to need, he's putting on a puppet show.

...a pants-puppet show.

does condemning your aunt's mothering skills qualify you for the death sentence? Not when your aunt is Tia Fran-kenstein!

Dear Ascanio: When I come to visit, please don't feel that you have to put your shirt on to make me comfortable. I'm quite fine without it. Quite, quite fine.

Dear Justo: This is not the time to grow a backbone. C'mon, girls, let's all cry at him at once!

Dear Julie: That Gran Final thing was mean - even when we know better! XD

Camila and Santi... All alone with LaFont... In the middle of who-knows-where. How many ways can this possibly go wrong? (Hey, this whole episode has been about counting! How many people know? How many problems can Bouffy get rid of at once? How many anvils are headed any which way? It's like watching Sesame Ship! Today's episode has been brought to you by the number 3 and the letters C-R-A-P.)

Terrific recap, Julie. And no--you didn't overdo your Justo wrath. You could have given him a few more head shots as far as I'm concerned.

That GRAN FINAL thing, though... I dang near wet myself. Naughty, naughty girl! :)

Telenovela experts, weigh in please: does condemning your aunt's mothering skills qualify you for the death sentence? NOT in this case. No ma'am.

URGH, I'm so mad I could spit. Stupid, stupid Justo. Why does everything happen to Justo indeed. Everyone already knows everything about Cami's situation! Whether they see her or not doesn't matter, the talk will continue! Stop thinking about your own sorry self when your daughter needs you, man! Cami should be more important than the dumb TOWN. Stupid, stupid Santi. You have the most precious little baby. How can you even entertain the thought of keeping another man's baby from that man?? #@&*! And how can you just stand there while Justo physically shoves Cami around like that? Last I checked, it was your leg that was impaired, not your arms. I'll THINK about letting you make this up to me. &#*@!

GRita is just sickening. What a douchebag. Someone needs to clue her in on the fact that the bodice of her new dress does not fit. I am so comforted that during the intro, as someone already pointed out, she's never happy like everyone else, but standing around forlorn and sad and ignored. Even at the wedding at the end. Alone. Maldita.

Chip and Dale had me cracking up at the concert. Did y'all see their faces? Yeah, we may be blacksmiths, but this stuff rocks. We listen to it regularly, piped in from the palace while we're hammering, doncha know.

Any guesses as to how much longer poor vASSco will be able to go without? I'm guessing not long... S-o-r-r-y. H-o-r-n-y. Except for the first and fourth letters... a guy who can't think straight because his crotch is on fire would mistake one for the other, yeah. LOL

It's going to be awesome when Cami presents Ric with their child. I. Can't. Wait. I wonder if he'll keep the beard. :)

Oh yeah, mad marley... I didn't think of that. Le Bouffy all by himself with Cami and Santi who-knows-where does not bode well. Oh dear. He despises them both.

Julie! What a fabulously well-written recap! About Lis: no, dissing your evil aunt is ok, but carressing dolls and dooming the hero and heroine condemns you to at the very least having to marry an evil old man and have sex with him.

Jorge is getting cuter and cuter. That little half-smile of his and the way he bounces a little with his excellent posture and his ringlets flap makes me giggle.

You're right about Justo, who used to be set up as the paragon of kindness. They just 180'd his character to make the plot work.

Good I'm not insane.. I too find Don Jorge a little sexy because of his little head tilts, ringlet flapping but mainly because of that deep smokey voice.

Thanks Julie, you really nailed that one. Justo and Santi are incredibly self-righteous and hypocritical. Justo's behavior explains a lot of the problems that his children have. The only time he shows any resemblance of a spine and it's to throw wrath on an emotionally abused pregnant woman...his own daughter.

I am disappointed that all Cami can do is have a negative attitude and cry. I guess that's why Jimena and Ines are there. But having Ascanio shirtless was well worth watching the novela...

Julie: Great recap. No wonder why Vasco is such an ass! He takes after his father, Justo. That man had me taken in. I never would have thought he could be so venal. He goes straight to Jorge, whom I thought was having a sane sensible moment until he tells LaFont and commissions that creep to escort Santi and Cami to the desert or wherever that place is.

Now that everyone in town knows about Ric and Cami let's send her off to hide her to save the Darien name. What BS.

Tia Fran just has no soul. She can move on a dime just like Jorge and LaFont.

I thought I heard in the preview that Lis said something about being given the baby as a gift??? Did I hear that?

I'll still volunteer to wipe Ric's brow. Somebody has to do it.

From lower Ala

OMG...I fell asleep mid-episode & missed shirtless Ascanio-o-o...Mondays are cruel.

InJusto is whacked. I mean, what the heck? "Don't tell anyone but excuse me while I do everything in my power to destroy my daughter's reputation. Oh, & by the by, Grita really is the GOOD daughter because she's a conniving, greedy, backstabbing wench but at least she's not causing me any embarassment." Grrrrrr...how can a man turn so quickly from a spineless wimp to a crazed drill sargeant? I think his head is turned by the association with power, through Grita & Santi. And when the heck did Santi become THE SAVIOR???? Spare me.

Cami: NOW would be a good time to hit the road. Grab Jimena & Ascanio, pack lightly, & beat feet out of there. La Paisana might be able to help.

Julie, what a fabulous recap. Cracked me up all the way through. No, don't apologize for railing on InJusto...if there was ever a doubt that he was an idiot, he certainly confirmed it last night.

Too many anvils to count...let's just hope they hit all the right people.

P.S. vASSco really is a number, isn't he? Good lord amighty, boy, find yourself a Playboy or work harder to release some of that energy. Get over it.

Okay InJusto needs to get bitchslapped. What a freaking -------!!!! He and sanctimonious Santi are so wrong right now. I know InJusto is looking at being deceived but funny that he didn't have a problem with Ric before the pirate secret came out when Ric was trying to save his wimpy butt when he couldn't even protect Camila from horny Jorge. I can't wait for Ric to recover because we all know he will come back for Camila and take her out of that God forsaken town. Seeing shirtless Ascanio made my night after all that madness LOL.

Befor I bust I got to say THAT was the stupidest episode ever! Everybody was playing mister or miss stupid!

Liz was just playing her ususal evil but EVVerybody else played Stupid, making incongrous decisions in spite of the current knowledge of who they are dealing with. Inexscusable.

Except for Justo who has consistently been mister stupid. The other characters can take care of dealing out retribution BUT Justo deserves to die for being stupid.

Julie: That recap was a tour de force. I loved it. Made me feel we were sharing a bottle of wine as we watched the episode and threw things at Justo. I cannot stand his sniveling obsequious manner with Jorge while he strong-arms his emotionally fragile daughter. He's been shown as weak all the way through but never mean like this. He thinks way too much about his dead ancestors and not enough about his live offspring. And, Justo, I do not approve of making a child keep secrets from his own father, even if it is dumb-dumb Vasco.

And poor Ascanio. First Santi and now Vasco breaking on him for nothing. I'd like to give him the patting down treatment that "busty wench" was giving Ric, and he doesn't even have to have a fever!

Most amusing recap, Julie and I don't even watch Pasión. I just fast forwarded through it. Of course, Ric is getting better when busty wenches give him massages!

I got home from work late due to a retirement party for one of my coworkers so I missed Ascanio shirtless by 10 minutes. Dammit!!!

At least I got a glimpse of Ric. I'll be more than happy to relieve the wench & Paisana when they need a break.

Gotta be a short comment cuz we have reps & people from our home office in our office today.

"Pants puppet show." Hee hee hee.

I wasn't sure what Lis meant about the baby in the preview for tonight, which is why I didn't mention it. I thought she probably just meant "give it away," since she can't possibly be reconciled to planning her future with Lafont yet... on the other hand she'll do literally anything out of spite, so who knows! We'll know more tonight!

I meant to add that we know Tia Fran will be the next additional person to find out about the"secret" pregnancy and then it will be all-the-news-all-the-time Clotilde.

God save me from rightous people...Justo is sees the errors in everyone else and yet is faultless himself. Yeah nice defense of your daughter.

I do have to say Justo gets around pretty good for a guy without a spine.

also I think Jorge is kinda hawt in a completely self serving way and while he may have some faults, BSC is not one of them. Alberto on the other hand....

What was so jarring throughout the episode was it was unclear as to specific plans for the baby. I can't believe they just intend to hide the pregnancy. What then guys?

In my imagination:
I think they didn't find it necessary to state the obvious conclusion. Camila was begging inJusto not to force her to abort. She's hoping to leave the child with the nuns until Ricardo returns for her.
inJusto, Santi and Joreje think hide the pregnancy from the town and then...? make the child dissapear as in still-born. Thats why they don't need this to happen at a convent.

From the previews I also thought Lis is planning to request from her novio, Ricardo's baby as a gift.

Great recap, Julie! The alternate titles were all good! Wasn't it great to see Ascanio shirtless again?? A pleasant surprise!

Justo is really being stupid. He conveniently forgets everything done for him and treats Camila badly. An anvil needs to fall on HIM!

As for evil Lisabutta, she is a total nutcase. Too glad she will have to marry La Font...they will make the perfect pair!

Can't wait for tonight's anvils to fall!

I thought Santiago was upset by news of the pregnancy because its a thorn in the side to have your future mistress with her "pirate sprout" ( I loved that Julie) as a reminder of her lost lover.

What I'm not clear on Julie is, is Santiago going to the pregnant prisoner camp; or is he just suppose to be giving orders and checking up on the trustworthy papa's drinking whoring buddy?

That's the sick feeling I got, Capt. Bonney, but didn't want to go there. The language barrier makes it harder to read between the lines, but yeah, clearly they all want this baby out of the picture entirely, for various reasons.

It would be the height of hypocrisy on Justo's part, but if you want hypocrisy then Justo's your man. It's ALL about appearances with him. He did suggest a convent, so I believe that he feels obligated to let Cami give birth, at least. OTOH I don't think he really cares what happens to the baby after that, as long as he doesn't have to deal with the consequences.

I don't think Santi would approve, but I think that part of the plan is going over his naive head anyway.

One thing that bugs me about telenovelas is that even though disowning your parents will get you killed, it seems to take a lot more to get a parent killed. I noticed that Isadora's dad from Destilando Amor is in Guapos; the minute I saw him, I thought "well maybe they'll kill him off in this show instead."

Sorry, Bonney, that was a response to your earlier post.

I believe Santi and Lafont are only accompanying Camila to... uh... Garbanzoland, or whatever it's called. After that she'll be left with guards or something.

I don't know if any of the men are planning to make a return trip until 7 months later... but we'll see if Santi can stay away. I hadn't considered that Santi thought this would wreck his plans with his future mistress - I thought he gave up on that dream. Maybe not.

I feel pretty sure Lafont won't be going back to bug Cami after he leaves her there, since he has his own women to abuse at home.

Thanks Julie for the speedy response.

Because Justo did not go to his dear friends Ophelia and Sophia, women, and told the other women he forbids them to tell, I think he and the guys are aquainted with the customary solution to the age-old problem.

I'd been hoping Justo would grow a spine, but this is the wrong way.

Ascanio looked good without his shirt - too bad it didn't last long.

And you know what? we haven't seen Mario shirtless yet - are they holding that treat in store for us later on?

Justo irritated me too, I wonder when Camila will finally give him the card from Ric that will melt his cold cold heart? That letter didn't get written for nothing, it must show up somewhere. As well as the letter under the tree. I have been waiting for months for that to resurface and slap Rita in the face. I can't wait.

Since the letter Rita shredded was the first anvil to be hoisted, I'm afraid it will be the last to fall.

I hope not, though. I know I say this every time, but I hate waiting for the last one or two episodes for all the anvils to fall. It's very artful and everything, but I would love for the Pie Cart of Reckoning to roll throw a little early this time.

I know we talked before of having Rita get smooshed by the Tree of Shredded Hopes, but I'm having second thoughts about that. I would like a more humane fate... for the tree.

I am not Cami's biggest fan by any means. That said certain character flaws she possesses make a whole lot more sense in light of inJusto's reaction last night to her pregnancy. I thought loving your children meant always wanting what is best for them even when it's hard for you, not making sure to look good in front of the townsfolk who already know most of the story and will soon find out the rest. (Clothilde all news all the time...I like that, Jestena) I grew up in a small town, news like Cami's travels fast, really fast. As for Grita and Lisabetta they couldn't die soon enough for me

Julie. Julie, Julie...You have a gift. I love to read your clever take on things. Well, now it's confirmed, Justo is not only a wimpy whiner more concerned about appearances than his own daughter...he is , say it with me, an Asshat. As always, the real danger is not from obviously evil types like Lafont, Lis,and Fran, but from those folks who present themselves as moral, upright dogooders who are ...really..only interested in keeping everyone else moral and upright...HELLO, Justo and Saintly. The men gathering to ''problem solve'' about Camiila's inconvenient condition reminded me of the solution for girls who found themselves in the family way in years past : a visit to a distant aunt for a few months followed by a babyless return to town. Disgusting...but never fear...we're talking about Camiila's baby daddy here who is....a pirate king. Ric will rally [with the help of Busty McBusterson and others] and you can bet that he will be back in town....taking names and kicking ass. I'm making a list of asses for him to kick. Shall we go by alphabetical order ? And so, it looks like in tonight's episode, Camila and her little bun will be wisked off to The Mancera Home for Wayward Girls. P.S. I especially enjoyed your reference to Lafont shopping for an appropriate gift for his intended at the Salamanca Bridal Collection. I don't think that Lis has registered anywhere because denial is not just a river in Egypt.

If I'd really wanted to commemorate the day properly, I would have directed you all to this hot love scene cut from last night's episode.

Julie, another great recap! I loved "Why does everything happen to Justo?" LOL!

I agree Jorge is becoming downright adorable. I was curious and Googled the actor Juan Ferrara, and here's a link to his picture if you're interested. He's very goodlooking in real life! I love it when actors put their vanity aside for the sake of a role.

So LaFont wants something from the "Salamanca Bridal Collection" for Lis? Maybe he'll give Lis that necklace from Rick's jewels. But maybe that necklace wasn't something Rick got as a pirate, but had been in the family - in which case Fran (or Lis, by touch) might recognize it!? Probably not, but that would be fun to see!

Thank you Madd at justo Bess and Julie. Your posts helped me regain my equilibrium, and laugh that bile right out of my system.

Yes, yes Julie! I really enjoyed SO MANY lines of your recap. Not only are you my compass, you're a Mark Twain of telenovelas!

It would be great to see Ri-car-do get up off his death bed and go rescue Camila. But it would be great too, to see Camila face off with these men. She is not the small town girl she use to be. And I don't believe she will settle for
an after-life of social acceptance and valium. (Valium was a plant you remember, long before it was in pill form.)

Julie thanks so much for your great recap. I'm so glad you vented your frustrations about InJusto (love that). I went to bed quite vexed over his actions (and the growing number of people he told). And Santi well I've been mad at him for a while as well so what can I expect.

Like Ferro, I need that letter to bite Rita in the behind. I hope Carla and crew don't wait until the last possible minute for that.

Thanks goodness for Ascanio (and his being shirtless and being an overall great guy) b/c the other men in this town have vexed me beyond all get out. Come back soon Ric and Mario and save us all

Julie, that recap was just superb and I enjoyed all the alternate titles.
When Ascanio appeared shirtless, I could feel the wave of appreciation rolling across the land, as hundreds of women let out heartfelt sighs.
Little Paco makes more trouble per pound than any other character in this tn. I'm about ready for him to cause a fatal stroke in Justo. I was so angry at Justo last night, I had to seriously remind myself this is ONLY A SHOW. THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT REAL. Justo was way, way off base last night. I agree that his character was inherited by Vasco and Rita: self-centered and weak. And then making up a committee to solve the "Camilla" problem is really asking for trouble. As if she hasn't been in enough peril already, just go ahead and let the slimiest snake in creation take charge of her imprisonment.

I can only hope Sofia and Ursula can give Rita enough pinpricks to keep her from being totally puffed up. Nice that Santi will have his own room at the palace.
La Paloma

Speaking of Ric's jewels...the town council [Santiago , Jorge, Lafont, and Justo] really wants to put them in a vice. I am so counting on karma to start kicking in. Come on , Ric...out of bed and on your white horse. And, Julie, you got me again with the ''hot love link''...si si, of course I went there......and nothing says hot love like Ric in a beige trench coat , no ???? Fool me once,,,shame on you,,,fool me twice, shame on me. !!!~~~Mad Bess, an April Fool

MadBess - that's called a "Rickroll." (No relation to Salamanca... yes, it's a DIFFERENT Ric! Really!)

The meaner version of the Rickroll takes control of your browser so that you have to watch the whole thing.

Never gonna run around and desert you...

What Liz said was "They are giving it away/up?" and later " I want that child".mhm

What perplexes me with the "let's run Cami out of town" plan is that usually, a woman left in a compromising situation was rushed into a quickie marriage of convenience. I thought InJusto (although Mad Bess is right...he's Ass Hat Extraordinaire), Saintly & Whorehey would come up with the great idea of marrying Cami off to one of Whorehey's classy pals.

Marrying her off wouldn't fool anyone, considering that Camila and Ric are still the hot topic of conversation and she's already two months out.

A quickie marriage only works if no one knows that she's been up to something. :)

Thank the lawd, they didn't think of that. justo would have been in favor of that plan as long as his betters suggested it and he and the town would smile and dance at the wedding. ..Just like the naming of Whorje's new son :-)

Thanks Julie for another of your delicious, detailed, and humorous recaps. I agree with you 100 percent about Justo. He used to be one of my fav's. Now, for the first time I see his attitude as self serving rather than one of love and concern that any dad would have for his favorite daughter. Another shocker for me was I never thought Rita would be around long enough to move into the palace. I have faith in Santi. I'm glad that he outranks LaFont and is wise enough to not trust him. I have the feeling he's going to use his powerful position yet again to help Cami. In any case, I'm willing to give him a chance. I'm really looking forward to the wedding of la ciega and Buffy. It can't happen soon enough.

UUUUUUuuuuuUUU! Justo, that cheese-eating bastard! I knew from the first show he was a punk-a$$ the way he whimpered and twirled his hands like Clohtilde. Yeah, it's all about him and his position as keeper of the honor. I was thinking, too, are they talking about abortion? Ric has acted honorably and respectfully toward him, saved his family's collective arse! I could so slap the crap outta him! Dang, Justo, if you gonna start working with Jorge (your daughter's would-be rapist) why don't you just have Cami shot? Bastard!

And re "Telenovela experts, weigh in please: does condemning your aunt's mothering skills qualify you for the death sentence?"

I'm no expert but I say NO. Fran hates her own newphew who has done nothing but treat her with respect, not to mention keeping her old dried up a$$ fed, clothed and sheltered. Nah, she betrayed him and continues trying to deliver him to LaFont (death) and now that she thinks he's actually dead, she doesn't give a damn. No, not even Lis deserves to die for dissing this miserable heffa even if she has been a mother substitute. UUUUuufff.

Ahhhhh. Me siento mejor.

I forgot to add that my favorite title is "Why does everything happen to Justo"? That is so fitting to this episode and the way you described it deserves honorable mention heh, heh. Anon 03:30

And I STILL think Santi will claim he fell vitim to his base human weaknesses and out of love and pity and desire to (ah-hem) comfort her, he lay down with Camila and will now...put her up in a little place outside of town.

he is still wearing the green stringy necktie.

Leave it to Estrada and crew to do a telenovela with a issue touching on abortion and forced adoption WITHOUT GETTING SPANKED!

Hey, folks...remember that Saintly now seems to be the chairman of the baby solution committee and no way does he want Camila married to anyone but him.

Julie, Thanks for such a well written recap and the April Fool's jokes sprinkled around. Never gonna give you up indeed. Justo so needs the pie cart. I keep seeing the scene they reviewed for us recently of him stammering in his stroke-smoked voice that Camila had to, yeah right now had to get married. HIs character has turned despicable. He needs to suffer much then die, preferably in a run away wagon with his precious Grita in it with him. No escape possible. They could mow down Lis who could be conveniently standing on the side of the road looking for her dolly in the wheel ruts.

Mad Marley Grey, you are so funny, why don't you recap. I would love to read more of your delightful sarcasm, pants-puppet show not the least of your humorous earthy view of reality.

I am a Jorge (Jose) fan too. I like how he reasons with Santi by giving him intelligent choices with an offhanded manner so as to help Santi choose wisely without getting his back up in resistance to a good decision like he did with the acupuncture treatments.

Julie, great recap! Love the alternate titles, especially "Booty call gets the answering machine!"

I kinda expected Cami to be a little more defiant with inJusto. Thought maybe some of all that good lovin' she'd been gettin woulda given her the spine to stand up to dad, gather the old slave ship crew together and head out, head held high away from San Fernando.

And Justo jumpin on Cami. Wow. That seemed really out of character. He really blew a gasket.

I'm hoping somehow this little hamlet is in the domain of Claudio and he chances upon her, helps her out until Ric comes back to hand out some fresh ass-whuppins!

Julie and cpt bonney morgan ROFL!!!
I guess it was the times, but hey, I don't remember Cani giving her life to Justo or Santi to figure out. I'm ready for the good guys to reappear and do some pirate kicking butt on the asshats...

HA Julie awesome with the Rickroll, but I almost missed it! I guess tagging it as a cut love scene was the bait for everyone else, but I zoomed right past it and then saw your explanation, then I backed up to check it out. The Rickroll phenomenon has truly reached every corner of the internet.

I saw a reference to 'Busty McBusterson' above - that has to mean La Paisana's sexy friend/assistant/whore in training or whatever she is. I haven't been caught up enough to read the recaps so I haven't seen if there was any mention of her, but I sure noticed as I watched the episodes. For every Ascanio shirtless, there has NOT been an offsetting piece of eye candy for the men. So she really um 'jumped out' at me. Where was she months ago? Oh well.

Julie, thanks for the great recap. It does help to see I'm not alone in outrage at Justo. I was hoping some of his problem with Ric was actually caring about Cami being deceived, but he really does just care about appearances.

Cami was going to leave town to look for Ric, but El Chino talked her out of it saying she would be followed and it would be dangerous for Ric. Maybe Cami knows she would be chased. I think she is just trying to do the right thing for the baby in that she will be taken care of at least by the committee, whereas she would be putting the baby in potential danger on the road.

I think Busty McChesterton (or whatever her name is) is the girl who traveled with Paisana and el Chino when they visited San Fernando. That girl didn't do much and was wearing a more modest-looking outfit, so she wasn't very memorable.

Mad maggie said: Grrrrrr...how can a man turn so quickly from a spineless wimp to a crazed drill sargeant?

Melinama hit that problem right on the head. BAD scriptwriters screwing up their own charcterizations to make the story work for them. I honestly cannot fathom InJusto having NO feelings at all for his own grandchild, no matter how embarrassed or upset he is. Ric is one thing--a baby with Justo's own blood is quite another. Boo to you Bad Writers who are getting paid for this. Isn't it enough that you've screwed up Saintly??

Cami has been so quick to throw clothes in a bag and go wherever she felt she had to go, even when told NOT to, up to this point. If she lets Justo and Company just ship her off somewhere instead of hitting the road on her own with Jime, I'm really going to be pissed at her. Cami--don't just stand around there while the stoopid men put plans in effect for you and your baby, girl! Flip them off and get to steppin'!

Hmmmm. In shedding his sticky, nasty machinations from the beginnings of Pasion, the new, improved, aerodynamic Jorge seems to have picked himself up a fan club, ey? :)

I'm for more shirtless Ascaniooooo.

And for Ric coming back to kick ass. (No way is another man going to get near Cami while Saintly is alive, so she should be somewhat safe until Ric hits the scene again.)

LOL @ Anon 3:33! Cheese-eating bastard. LMAO!

BSC = ?

Yeah, Baby! Ascaniooooo! and yeah, let the guys have Bambi McBoobson. On episodes like this one, they should compensate us with pletiful pec, chiseled ab and boob shots!

BSC = batshit crazy

I suppose the Spanish term would be "guanoloco"?

I can understand Santiago getting a little weird on us. After all, finding out that Jorge was his father must have turned his life upside-down. And now he's agreed to be recognized and move into the palacio. Santi's crazy behavior seems plausible in these weird circumstances.

I guess it's possible that the stroke messed with Justo's head, but other than that I find his change in character more difficult to swallow.

I swear, Cami can't win :-) She runs away when she is not supposed to, and she gets criticized. She doesn't run away, and she gets criticized. I'm sure if she did run away, she would be criticized for endangering the baby :-)

I still think her being pregnant is what has changed her thinking and making her be cautious.

Although Justo being this extreme is surprising, he has shown in the past that he cares more about appearances than his own children, so it is not totally surprising.

Julie, you provide unbelievably great recaps. Thanks so much!

I, too, thought the transition between Justo the grateful for the best daughter in God's kingdom (who spent a great deal of money helping her family) - and the shame-attracting, sit at the end of the pew wretch . . . was too swift, too completely undermining of my former good opinion of him.

Kudos Julie!Super recap.
Can anyone picture the twins in a Saturday Night Live episode...they're perfect!!

Lis crazy? um...I think the doll speaks for itself.

Even before I saw your name on the bottom of the post, I knew it was you recapping Julie!!! Fantastic job as always.

I agree with pretty much all that's been said. However, I wonder if we can explain Justo's injusto attitude as being the result of his stroke. Perhaps all of his mental faculties are not up to par. If that's not the case then he's truly a hypocritical a$$.

Can anyone explain why Santiago hasn't learned how to use a comb? He was all dressed up in finery, but still had that scraggly hair.

Cheryl - I would actually really, dearly love to recap - you'd get more sarcasm than you can shake a blind woman's stick at! - but alas, I don't watch my Pasión until three in the morning when everyone else's go up. For some reason, I took French in high school (stupid, stupid move, given that my best friend was Puerto Rican and I might actually have used the Espanol once in a while and thus retained some of it) and so the only things I can translate on my own around here are accusations of whorishness, shocked gasping, and the glorious sounds of puking.

Fortunately, we have the comments form for me to weigh in on! -g- (I kept hoping I'd pick some vocabulary this time the way I did with Alborada, but it's just been over my head all the way.)

Ha!...I like Bambi Mcbooberson even better than my Busty Mcbusterson ! Either way, she seems to have had a good effect on our Ricster....helped him regain consciousness....the power of cleavage, no ??? She could probably raise the dead with those gals ,so I'm expecting to see Tio Tim soon.

*laughing hysterically because of mad bess* Tio Tim!!!!!

Mcchesterton - cleavage- raising the dead --- my belly laughs are causing my fingers to jiggle on the keys ----

So much fun on this blogger. Thank you all and I'd love to run into you all in the supermarket isles!

"Salamanca Bridal collection"!!!!!!!!
